i don’t think the opinion that rei and shigaraki’s mom played a role and have some responsibility in their children’s abuse and trauma is wrong. i think its hard to understand if you haven’t been the child/been in a similar position to dabi, shoto ect
#its so strange seeing the todoroki family dynamics; bc i get it SO much#like u dont blame your mom. u do for a second; when ur angry; when ur still living it. u ask why she didnt protect u.#but those thoughts are completely overwhelmed by your love for her; your misplaced guilt that you couldn’t save her;#and your anger at the actual abuser#when i see fictional parents fail their children; even if they were vicitms; i still get terribly angry for the children#bc i get it… that thought shigaraki had… why didnt you do anything.. i know you we’re struggling but i was your child#but also bc i know those feelings so well i also know that ill always reach my mom w endless empathy#almost too much; to the point where im carrying the blame and forgetting shes an adult#but anywho i think i get frusterated w fictional parents; even rei; because kids can do nothing. when ur a kid u have absolutely no power#and if the adults dont help you; no one will#and when they dont; it fucks you up for the rest of your life; and you spend a long time trying to heal from it#and you were a child; you couldnt do anything. the adults could. but they didn’t#so i do think some blame for dabi and shotos trauma goes to rei#i do think some blame goes to my mom#but like shoto… i forget all of that; and i just want to protect and love my mom more than anything in the world#it doesnt matter; you just love your mom and your heart breaks for her and u want her to be safe and happy#and rei is a victim ofc#i think its the part of me that lived similarly to dabi/shoto that always feels v protective of children who were victims of abuse#and finds it important to recognize the areas where these parents failed their kids#and where rei failed dabi and shoto especially; and the ways the blame is hers as well#also i am NOT an enji fan i do not like or care ab him at all#this is not an enji defense/support or rei was as a bad as enji post or whatver

Danny became the head assistant to one Timothy Drake-Wayne after nearly 20 years of being retired from the hero gig. In Danny's opinion,no 16 year old should be managing a multi - million dollar company as a pass time instead the fricking grown adult who owned said company... *cough, cough .....Bruce Wayne.
But then again, what did he know, alot.....he knew alot about Tim and his family of furries...the undead souls of Gotham tended to tell you things if you gave them the chance, he was just some guy in his thirties who had just moved to Gotham just a year ago. He couldn't just walk up to them and offer a free therapy session with his sister to fix the general mess that was the Wayne family unless he wanted the 'batclan' to start paying attention to him and later creeping him out with their stalking. So he chose a more subtle approach ; slowly integrate into their lives and fix their disaster of a family one appointment at a time.
He started off great. Tim began to open up to him in the office as the days went by. They talked in-between work schedules and meetings. He learnt about Tim's likes and dreams, lent an ear when he needed to vent about stuff involving home or school. In a way , Danny had realised somewhere in between that he was slowly mentally adopting Tim as his kid . He ended doing the same thing with the other Wayne children when he met them. Apparently,Tim spoke about him to the others when he was home and they had all gotten curious. Heck he had even met Alfred and they got on like a house on fire . Now he sometimes joins the old man to shop for groceries every other weekend. He had met Bruce as well and let's just say their first meeting involved Danny scolding the hell out of the man for allowing a literal child to manage his company when said child should have been doing child things as well as all the other things and the others had told him Bruce had done. Alfred had patted him on the back after he had finished his speech while the kids had been laughing at their father's expense.
Bruce had surprisingly taken it like a man considering the fact that he was being told off on how to 'parent' by a twink who was his son's assistant and therefore his employee. Danny had expected to be jobless after that fiasco but instead he was invited to dinner that very same week by Bruce himself. Albeit Bruce refused to make eye contact and seemed to have been having a fever as his face and ears were bright red but Danny didn't mind, free food was free food.... Even if he still wonderd why he had spotted Dick and Stephanie spying on them from the hallway with knowing looks on their faces......
Danny didn't even know how but suddenly he was fully involved in their lives; night time hobbies included after they dramatically told him to which Danny had simply responded with an "ya don't say?"and proceeded to go back to drinking his tea with Alfred . Things in the bat-brood were healing nicely;they were talking, bonding and generally starting to look like a true family. A true family with Danny in it. And Danny himself didn't realize this until one fluke .....no.... Two flukes occurred on the night of the biggest gala Danny had ever attended in his halfa life {galas he attended at Sam's mansion included} .
The first fluke ,he had been both happy and embarrassed about.....
Not one or two or three BUT four of the Wayne children had addressed him as 'Dad' . That too in front of a large group of guests and reporters with cameras and recorders . Damien had gone as far as to specify that ,yes they were referring to him and not Bruce..
And the second fluke....
Well, Danny wasn't sure how to feel about that one............
... Bruce Wayne, the bachelor billionaire, the man Danny had come to have a huge slight man crush on,...........
.
.
.
Kissed Danny. Right on the lips. On the balcony.
And Danny being a complete idiot had hiccuped then used his invisibility to hide and later run all while forgetting one tiny thing..
He hadn't told the batclan about his secret yet..and honestly??
Danny blames Clockwork.

Astrology observations part-3 🦋
Tumblr media
🦋Libra Sun have the best complexion and usually clear skin. The sun radiates from within. They act silly to confuse people but they are wise. I have never seen an unattractive Libra sun. There is something about them that makes them so pretty. Everyone’s crush.
🦋Venus in 11H has to do with glamour. They have classy rich social circles. Tend to have more friends from the opposite sex. The friends have a big impact on them. A desire for rich successful high profile life. Also, tend to be a hoarder. They are loved by all.
🦋I love how opinionated Aries women are. They tend to be feminists or environmentalists. They scare the hell out of men. It's their way or high way. Why do so many aries women have water sign children, it's cute.
🦋People with Saturn with 0-degree placement were independent from a young age. Since the time they were born, they were already done with everyone’s shit. Might not have the easiest childhood. Also, tend to be emotionally closed off as adults. But my god their sense of humour is dark, with the right crowd, they truly shine.
🦋Lilith in 1H or Lilith conjunct ascendant, so what is it like being accused all the time? Women accuse you of stealing their boyfriends and men accuse of you flirting even when you are not.
🦋Lilith in 12H, I already mention this placement in previous observations. Let's look at the positive side. Your sensual energy might not be too upfront. But people can’t forget about you. You haunt their subconscious mind. So there is a tendency for others to get obsessed with you. Your ex-lovers or friends can never get over you. It's impossible.
🦋The wit of Gemini mercury is so hot. Their memory is too good. An intellectual.
🦋Virgo mars are so logical and strategic with their actions. I would go to them for any kind of advice. They are the master planners. Ready for anything.
🦋Scorpio midheaven, they are people’s guilty pleasure. People hate them because they can not be them. At the same time they are appealing to others, everyone has eyes on them.
🦋Neptune in 1H have trail of copycats. It is what it is.
🦋I feel Sagittarius's placement have too many love interest. Best bodies. Amazing butt. Especially Sagittarius rising are some of the prettiest people I have ever seen.
🦋Venus in 2H tends to marry rich. They can become famous too.
🦋Sun in 1H or Sun conjunct ascendant are warm, charismatic, and regal. They appear radiant and have glowing complexions. Prominent foreheads. I don’t think this placement has any cons. Definitely makes life easy. Can be self-centred. Divine wisdom. Powerful leaders.
🦋Aquaruis rising look exotic or unique. They often appear eccentric and would constantly say they are weird. Gives off maniac pixie girl or guy vibes.
🦋Cancer Mercury / Taurus Mercury are great listeners. They are the true best friends. Empathetic. Provide words of comfort to others. I think it takes great emotional intelligence to be understanding and empathetic. Cancer mercury is unbeatable in that aspect.
🦋Capricorn suns are frank and straight to the point. They are the least problematic people of all. If you have beef with them, it's mostly one-sided because they are focused on building their empire. They take no shit from others and might appear cold. They are real sweethearts. Capricorn sun/moon / rising are often the eldest children in the family.
Disclaimer: Take what resonates with you. Personal observations are biased.

Hello dearie!!
How are you? I hope you're doing well!
I saw that your asks were open, and your content is really cool and silly,So I decided to leave you a nice ask to enjoy!
Could I have a headcanon platonic! Alastor,Vox and Husk finding a random child next to their dead mother, except that they don't really understand that she's dead and think she's sleeping,so they pity the child and take them in?
The child is really polite and nice, pretty calm, too. Sure, they do child stuff, like running around, being excited, etc, but they still are more calm than others.
They always talk about their mother, how she's the only one left, and how they love her.
Would the characters say the truth? Would they lie?
I just love hurt/comfort and platonic relationships so :3
Anyways,I hope that's not too much, and that you enjoy writing this!
Have a really nice day, don't forget to drink and take breaks!
Stay proud!
-Nina <33
A/N: Thank you for the reminders, heh. Btw, I’m going to have to change the reasons as to why they took you in because I just don’t see characters like Alastor and Vox taking you in because of pity. Sorry about that. The rest is untouched. You’ll still get a bit of that hurt/comfort (mostly from Husk, lol. Both Alastor and Vox are non-existent, but Alastor is somehow better than Vox).
Warnings: Mentions of death
———
Alastor, Husk, and Vox adopting a deceased mom’s child
Tumblr media
Alastor
• Alastor paid no mind to the dead corpse
• it didn’t really look that appetizing anyway
• “How unfortunate.” You heard a weird voice from behind you as a hand was placed on your shoulder. “A child mourning in the demise of its mother. Tragic, really. You have my condolences.”
• “What are you talking about, mister?” You stared up at the mysterious man, watching his eyes flick from your left to right eye while his grin only grew as the seconds went by
• “I think you’ve just found yourself the perfect dwelling,” he abruptly said, letting go of your shoulder to fix his bowtie as he sprung back to life. “Why don’t you come with me?”
• “But what about my mother?”
• “She is in good hands, I can assure you.” He offered his hand to you. “Come along, now. Children shouldn’t dwell long in places like these.”
• and so he took you in to be a patron at his hotel
• I mean, what’s more easier to redeem than a child? (assuming you’re a sinner. I don’t know if it’s canon anymore that only hellborns can reproduce. Look at Cannibal Town’s people)
• he intended to leave you in the rest of the residents’ care while they could only guess what his actual motivation was for taking you in
• but it seemed you ended up favoring him more than the rest
• you’d follow him around like a duckling—a lost puppy—you’re attached to him like a leech
• and you’re so well-behaved, too
• up until he leaves your sight
• he actually leaves the hotel a lot more often now because of that
• he finds you wrecking chaos in the hotel entertaining as hell
• and the fact that the others beg him to come back to calm you down
• I don’t think you would ever know what happened to your mother
• even when you talk about her a lot
• those rambles never really prompt him to say anything
• well, it’s not as if he knew what happened to her
• but, hey, at least he listens!
• maybe it’s because he feels a little nostalgic hearing the way you talk about her…
———
Husk
• Husk was fucking spooked when he found you lying beside your dead mother
• not because of the corpse, but because of the way you were staring at him
• with eyes dull and wide open, just like your mother
• while Husk wouldn’t have given two shits if it was a grown-ass adult, you were a child
• so he took you in
• “But what about my mother?”
• “Shi—I, uh—your momma will tag along soon. Now c’mon. She wouldn’t want you out here alone.”
• since Husk is constantly around the hotel, there were never really instances where you wreaked havoc
• you just silently watch him tend the bar and sometimes talk about your mother
• your talks about how much you love her make him feel pretty guilty for some reason
• but he’d probably tell you when you’re older enough
• only if you were asking him about her though
• he wouldn’t want to have to sit you down and tell you something that sensitive of a topic when you didn’t even ask
• “Why don’t I have a mother?” you would suddenly ask when you turned 18
• today was your birthday. Charlie insisted on having a little party for you just like every year. But you didn’t want one; you wanted to be with Husk for the day
• the man in question sighed
• he knew you were building up the courage to ask all day
• “I’m gonna give it to you straight, kid, I don’t know what exactly happened to her. All I know is that she’s in a better place.”
• “Oh…”
• “Do you…wanna talk about it?” He continued, voice a little unsure, “Not as a bartender…but as a dad.”
• you smiled, grateful. “I think I’ve already said plenty when I was younger. But thanks, Dad.”
• he smiled back
• you two would then sit in silence together, basking in each other’s presence
———
Vox
• so, uh, I’m going to have to completely skip the taking you in part with Vox because I genuinely cannot see him adopting a random child (unless he could gain something, but, like, you’re just a kid)
• so you’ll just get the aftermath of it (hope that’s okay)
• based on the way he handled Val’s tantrum, I think it’s safe to assume that he’s somewhat good with children
• but he’s a pretty busy guy
• he doesn’t have the time to take care of a random child, so he’d make sure to keep an eye on you on his cameras
• but despite that, your existence in the tower warrants his
• as you’re too chaotic whenever he isn’t around
• but only around the other expendable employees
• you’re relatively well-behaved when Velvette and Valentino are with you
• but he doesn’t exactly trust them to take care of you
• they aren’t exactly good with children
• so he tried doing video calls
• you will definitely grow up as an iPad kid
• he’d hear you talk about your mom during those calls
• he’d let you go on and on, but it’s not guaranteed that he’ll listen
• I don’t think he would ever tell you what happened to her (he doesn’t know, anyway)
• he won’t lie, he’d just work around your question
• skillfully
• like, extremely so
• even if you ask him directly, he still manages to dodge the question somehow
• I don’t know what else to say, he’s gonna be a pretty distant father—

something that stuck with me once, way back in middle school when i was still learning how to write - my teacher said "writing shock and tragedy is easy, it's humor that's the hardest."
i have been up and down the halls of academia. i have the fancy degree and the experience in publishing. i think i paved most of my own road with the little bricks of sorrow i had stored inside of me. i know i did it mostly with works that are blisteringly lonely. i know why we write like that. it's lifesaving.
but yeah, i mean. i also know how much people think that "sad" media is the same thing as "good" media. our human desire to connect is so hard-pressed that we immediately latch onto any broken themes. the bullied kids and the tales of inspiration. people keep saying things like "glass onion" and "everything everywhere" weren't actually good. because, you know, they're. happy. or happy-ish. happy enough. and we only value art if it's grimdark-adjacent.
do you know - people still consistently whine at me that my writing would be so good if i just capitalized things. i used to flinch. i get kind of a weird, vindictive little rush these days - i get to say thank you for the comment! i have chronic pain and this is how i conserve my hands so i can write more during the day :) grammar isn't real anyway! and now they're trapped in the room with me, you know? i get to pull out my map and show them how grammar is not the same thing as good writing.
writers have this thing. we scratch at our insides, constantly, prying our lives apart into splinters. prying the splinters apart into atoms. when we combust something into poetry, we control it. it cannot hurt us if it exists outside of us rather than burning a hole through the bottom of our lungs. it's not a wonder to me that so much of what i make comes out like a death gasp. i spent a long time at the bottom. i keep going back, too. when you're down there for so long, the only thing you can exhale is fumes.
but humor is hard. humor needs timing; which i can't promise in a paragraph. i can kind-of force it through careful spacing, but i have no idea how fast you're reading these things. humor needs a somewhat awareness of your audience, when really - anybody could be looking. humor needs us to understand what the joke is, why it's a joke, and to think - ha! that is funny. in tragedy, everyone understands the metaphor of a kicked puppy. in humor, you need to introduce them to the concept of a dog.
and forget about positivity. forget about anything not made for adults explicitly. every time i see a well-made children's media piece, i feel fucking horrible for the creators. most of the time, people see children's media as being sort of "not worth" applause, even though i'm pretty sure they have to work twice as hard. i have no idea how hard it must be to not be able to have your character just say. "well, fuck." something about a message of peace or friendship or caring - for some reason, that makes the media not for adults. like, okay. i'm pretty sure my father actually, out of all of us, could use a good book on how to control his temper and talk about his feelings.
but whatever. i write a short story about my ocd, and how it's fucking killing me. it gets an award. it gets published. i write a short story about my ocd, and how i'm overcoming it, and how my days are getting lighter and starting to flourish. i keep getting ghosted. no response. it just is lacking... something.
is this it, forever? you can be an artist, okay. but the trade off is that the things you make - if they're happy? if they're joyful? people will say it's stupid and pandering. you bite your nails off. you file your teeth. you hear something inside of you breaking.
the other day in a writing group, someone i'd thought of as a friend said: "you write so much better these days! i love what you make when you'd rather be dead."

A Pinch of Salt - snippet 2
Okay, so I have been reminded by @clockwayswrites that I could post some things instead of just hoarding them like the dragon in my icon. So here ya go. Maybe I'll even get around to updating Catnip in the coming days who knows. Previous
Fuck, Danny cursed internally as he struggled to keep up with the long-legged stride of Trenchcoat. Whatever had happened to that ghost to make it into something like that was not good, he needed to do something! But as long as Trenchcoat was here he couldn’t exactly do as he usually would: transform and punch it. The man had seemed very ready to do something to Danny and the unspeakable soul situation going on had Danny extremely leery of finding out what that something was.
At least getting eaten seemed unlikely from the man’s earlier horrified response.
So running.
They went down a hallway, up a staircase, down another hallway and into a would have been shop. They stopped for a moment in the square space catching their breath. Trenchcoat let go of him to go peek back around the corner. Finally Trenchcoat’s shoulders relaxed.
“We lost it for now.” Actually it was more like the ghost lost interest in them; as they’d gotten further and further away from the central plaza of the mall the ghost had stopped following them. Not that Danny was going to tell Trenchcoat that. He had no idea how he’d explain it in a way that didn’t make him extremely suspicious. His hair was dripping salty water making it hard to forget he’d already been assaulted twice - he did not wanna know what else the man stored up his sleeves.
Preferably, somehow he’d get Trenchcoat to leave.
The moment of inattention cost him as he was grabbed once again by Trenchcoat and towed through the would-maybe-someday be a store to a door in the back. This led to a store room and a door to the outside. It was unlocked it turned out and Danny realized this was probably how the man had gotten in.
“Alright, kiddo, time to leave.”
Trenchcoat opened the door and pushed at Danny’s back.
“No way!” Danny exclaimed digging his heels in.
“Yes way,” Trenchcoat mocked, “go home kid, I’m a professional.”

There was no way Danny was leaving, not at this point. Ghosts were his area of expertise - or well, Danny couldn’t really claim to be an expert, but they were his responsibility at least! He had a unique skillset and no matter what Trenchcoat claimed, he did not look any sort of professional. He made his opinion of his claim known by giving the man his most dubious look.
 -
John hated teenagers and this teenager in particular.
He didn’t know what it was about teenagers, but they were just merciless in their judgment in a way adults were probably usually too polite to be. In any case that little up and down there, with the slightly raised eyebrow made him feel like he’d worn a clown costume to an accounting job.
“Bloody Hell, will you just leave before I decide to feed you to the specter!”
The boy crossed his arms, standing his ground. “You can try.”
John dragged a hand down his face, taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly.
“What are you even doing here?” “I’m here for the ghost.” Plain, even, said with not a smidge of hesitation. “You’re here for the-“ John cut himself off, hands opening and closing, inwardly cursing children and their stupid dares. “And what pray tell where ya gonna do when you found the ghost?”“I figured I’d try talking to them.”“You what?!” John spluttered. He’d expected him to say he hadn’t expected to find a ghost, there went his theory of this being a dare.
“There is no talking to that!” He pointed vaguely in the direction they’d lost the spectral storm. “Of all the sodden-“
“Them.”
John’s thoughts screeched to a halt. “What?” “Them. They are a them, not an it or a that.”
John opened and closed his mouth. Was he really getting a lecture on pronouns?
“It is a spectral storm. Whatever poor spirit it used to be, is not there anymore. There’s no mind there, it’s pure emotion out of control. There’s no way back from that.”
The boy scowled at him, clearly disagreeing. It didn’t matter.
John pointed at the door.
“Leave.” “No.” They stared at each other neither giving an inch.
Urgh, this had to be why Batman was so grumpy all the time. John could not do this. He threw up his hands and turned around. He worked around things, not through them and here he was engaging in the folly of arguing with a bloody teenager.
“Suit yourself.”
Gods, he needed a smoke. He’d hardly finished the thought before he was pulling the package of smokes out of its pocket with practiced ease. He was lighting the smoke by the time he noticed the unimpressed look he was getting. Satisfied, he took a deep drag and slowly breathed out the smoke. The kid grimaced and John smirked.
“Those are gonna kill you.” “As opposed to the rest of my lifestyle?” He returned with a nod in the direction of the Storm that probably couldn’t kill him, but the kid didn’t know that. Satisfied at the way the kid’s nose scrunched, he walked back the way they came from.
“And what are you supposed to be?” Kid asked falling in step with him, and John just knew he was being annoying on purpose with that tone of voice. He was not gonna bite. He was an adult. He kept his gaze straight ahead as the kid started guessing.
“Excorcist? Ghostbusters wannabe?”

There was a pause, then a flash of a sly smirk John only caught because he’d stopped to look down the hallway.
“Ectologist?” The suggestion hit John like a metaphysical sledgehammer and he recoiled in disgust.
“Fuck. No.” He shuddered an extra time as if that would remove the oily feeling. “I’m an occult detective. You happy now? Shit kid, you don’t pull your punches do you?”
-
“So what’s the plan, Trenchcoat?”
“Trenchcoat,” John mouthed to himself before shaking his head. “The plan is you keep out of the way and I deal with the raging ghostie.”
“Yeah, no, you’re gonna do better than that. This is not my first time dealing with a ghost. But I don’t know what occult detectives do.”
John pondered the statement about this not being the first time he’d dealt with a ghost, and maybe there was something to the death magics he gave off after all. He groaned internally, why was he doing this?
“Standard practice, kid. Contain and banish.” He held up first one finger then two.
Danny rolled his eyes. It didn’t sound too different from his approach to ghosts, he caught them and sent them back to the ghost zone, but Mr Occult Detective didn’t exactly carry around a Fenton thermos.
“And how do you contain? No,” he offset the clearly sarcastic response. “I mean what are your requirements?”
Trenchcoat rolled his eyes, but humored him.
“I need a large enough open space and a small moment of preparation, then just gotta lure it in and do a binding spell.”
Danny narrowed his eyes and looked towards where he felt the raging storm of ghost energy. “Like the plaza.”
“Ideally yes.”
“So you need a distraction.” Danny started walking. A hand fell on his shoulder.
“Where do you think you’re going? If you’re so insistent to stay, you’re not leaving my sight.”
Danny shrugged off the hand and turned around.
“The plaza is the center of the their power. You need someone to lure them away.” Danny watched the emotions flash across the man’s face with a small bit of amusement. He really didn’t want Danny involved if he could help it. Finally the man’s face settled on exasperation.
“I will figure something out.”
Danny smiled, taking a step backwards.
“No, you will give me a ten minutes headstart to lure our ghost friend far enough away they won’t immediately notice your stench so close to the heart of their haunt.”
As if sensing his intentions Trenchcoat made another grab for him which he dodged. And then he ran. He was sure it was only the threat of the ghost that prevented the man from yelling after him.
He just hoped he’d listened, because Danny was about to go piss off an already raging spirit. Trenchcoat better be ready.
Fun times.

Susan Pevensie comes back from Narnia and tries to forget, not because she doesn't believe in Narnia anymore, but because it hurts too much thinking about what she lost.
In Narnia, she was revered, respected. People wrote songs about her, asked for her hand in marriage. She was with her siblings, and she was free, and she could finally stop worrying about her brothers dying in an air raid. She had a people she protected, a land she ruled, and family to look after. She was respected in courts and battefields alike.
Narnia brought other problems, of course. Not all her suitors were kind about her rejection, and Peter and Edmund were expected to lead armies, which meant they were always in the line of fire. More than once had they come home with grave injuries that took months to recover from, even with Lucy's secret potion.
It is this Narnia Susan vividly remembers just aftee she comes back, a wild and savage land where magic roams free, but evil roams free too. It is the Narnia of eternal winter, of giants and ogres, of Aslan dying on the Stone Table. The Narnia of Telmarines, of dead friends, of failed sieges.
England forces her back into obedience, into a mold. Tells her to behave in a way expected of a young lady. Lucy can stay wild a little longer, but Susan has an education to focus on, men to impress. England tells her she is below her brothers again, should get married and have kids.
So Susan tries to forget, convincing herself that the stiff upper lip, tight collars, kneelong skirts, ridicule from adults when she speaks her mind and forced silence is better than the freedom she had in Narnia.
For that freedom had to be paid for in blood. At least in England her family and friends don't risk dying, not after the war.
She alienates from her brothers and sister further. She tells them Narnia was a game, a fantasy. But the difference in faith is also due tk the way she has to hide how it changed her. Peter, Lucy and Edmund do not have to. The boys write long essays about justice and religion, join the fencing team. Lucy dances everywhere she goes and is known to never wear shoes if she can help it.
But the archery club at school will not accept Susan. Neither will the debate team. Her teachers are annoyed with the fact she never slips up, disgruntled at the fact a woman runs rings around them intelectually. Susan is a young woman after a time of war, and all of society would rather she shut up and do what she is told.
Soon, Susan has new friends, new things that matter. All these adult thoughts she can only discuss with her brothers and sister drive her crazy, and there is no one around that takes them seriously. And so she tries to grow up as fast as possible, get to an age where people listen to her again. She forgets so that she doesn't have to deal with the feeling she was meant for much more, to ease the mourning of all that she lost when she kissed Caspian goodbye.
All the Pevensies start forgetting Narnia slowly, the memories fading. Soon none of them remember the names of their generals at Beruna. They forget the smell of battle, the weight of an iron sword in their hands. But they all still walk as if their crowns are on their heads, and ride horses in a way none of their instructors understand. It takes a while before they are back to their Narnian levels, but it is clear to them someone has instructed them before. None of them can figure out what commands they use, however. Is it western style, perhaps? Or maybe rodeo? They cannot have been taught in England, not with the amount of control they can exert with and without saddles, the sense of balance. Some of their teachers are astonished by their academic growth, but others attribute it to the lax education standards after the war. Susan is sold short most often, but all the Pevensie children suffer from arguments with teachers and attitude problems. Teachers generally don't like it if you behave like you are older or more important than them. It's worse because they are almost never wrong, even though all of them feel the effects that having a teenage brain has on their speed of thought and the coherence of their arguments.
The Pevensies deal with these remnants of Narnia in different ways. Susan becomes an actress. She picks West End over Oxford because the stage is a place she is allowed to be free. And since Narnia, dry textbooks don't thrill her like they used to, while the fantasy concepts of spirits and courts and magic and other things thespians work with entince her all the more. Inside her is a longing to become someone else. She knows where it comes from, but she doesn't want to acknowledge it.
Susan plays a queen often, or a diplomat, or a model. Something about her performances have audiences hooked, convinced she was royalty in a different life.
Remembering Narnia hurts. She scolds someone for being reckless with the stage props while teaching them the correct way for a full minute before realizing the person in question is older than her, and doesn't listen to a young woman. He has the same name as her younger brother.
So Susan forgets. But as she carves her way into the elite of old Hollywood, years later, she begins to remember as well. What it's like to have a voice. How it feels like to have people listen.
When Lucy, Edmund and Peter die in the train accident, Susan weeps for days. She knows what she has lost in them. She is now the only person fluent in their interpersonal language, the only one that still remembers the mating call of the centaurs, what jokes a forest spirit makes. She is now truly alone in the world.
Narnia comes rushing back to her during this grieving period. Eventually, she remembers that she used to have a voice, a crown, lovers of whatever gender she wanted. And also how Narnia would have you pay for freedom in blood. They gave up on that freedom to protect her siblings. only to lose them anyways. Suddenly, Susan remembers how Narnia was fair, how a bargain struck was a bargain kept. She remembers the nymphs, the trees in spring. She remembers the beauty of it all.
Later, when Susan is a grown woman and an arrived actor in Hollywood, Aslan begins returning to her dreams. He never speaks to her, but the sight of him gives her strenght. She was once Susan the Gentle, who accompanied Aslan to his death. It is time she returns to being that person.
After the Stonewall riots and during the AIDS epidemic, Susan is the only actress willing to make a public stand. It costs her 2 box office hits and a 3 month ban from the tabloids. But she remembers justice, and the price of freedom. Others start looking to her for wisdom, just like they did all those years ago. Susan feels her quiet strenght returning, her faith slowly coming back.
She stops wishing she could forget Narnia. The magic that was responsible for the memory faded with time. Maybe it was just to protect her from mourning a world where she was so much more.
When Susan looks at the boys coming back from wars in Korea and Vietnam, she recognizes the look in their eyes. Reflected in their behaviour is a maturity that shouldn't be present in teenagers. The loss of innocence, the unrepairable damage to their childhood illusions. It is a look she spent her twenties avoiding mirrors for, because she knew what it meant. No matter what she told herself then, she believed in Narnia. She still does now.
She knows her siblings are in a different place now, and that she revoked her faith in that place, but slowly, as the years grey her hair and wrinkle her face, she begins to believe she may one day join them there. She remembers Aslan as a kind lion, even if he wasn't a tame one.
She grew old in Narnia once, after all. She hopes to die there.
Once a queen of Narnia, always a queen of Narnia

“Okay, you know the rules,” Eddie says to Ryan and Luke as he pulls into the Chuck E. Cheese parking lot. “Stay together, don’t talk to strangers, and try not to spend all of your tokens on one game.” He throws the car in park and turns around to face them. “Got it?”
“Got it!” The boys echo in unison, practically buzzing with excitement. Luke’s been kicking his feet into the back of Eddie’s seat on the entire ride over, much to the man’s chagrin. Eventually, he just reached around and grabbed Luke’s little ankles, jokingly threatening to cut off his feet if he didn’t stop.
You get out of the car, silently reminding yourself that you’re the babysitter today. The kids still don’t know about you and Eddie, and you’re determined to break the news in a way that doesn’t traumatize them. Or make them hate you, for that matter.
Eddie holds out his hand for Luke to take while you all walk across the lot, but the little boy shakes his head.
“C’mon, bud,” Eddie says, a warning tone in his voice. “You know you gotta hold my hand in the parking lot.”
Luke’s gaze drifts towards you. “Can I hold her hand?” He asks softly, and Eddie’s heart just about melts at the way his boys adore you.
“Gotta ask her first,” Eddie reminds him, watching as his younger son carefully walks to the other side of the car, where you’re standing.
“What’s up, Luke?” You say, smiling at him. “Y’ready to go have some fun?”
“Yeah!” Luke exclaims, jumping up and down. He nearly forgets the reason why he came over, until he goes to start towards the building. “Oh! Um, can I hold your hand?”
You beam at him, taking his tiny right hand in your left. “Of course!” At that, he smiles back at you. There’s a hint of mischief in his eyes, but you chalk it up to the anticipation of going to Chuck E. Cheese.
Eddie’s a few paces ahead, but he stops in his tracks when Ryan calls out, “Daddy, wait!” The older boy looks at Luke—and did he just wink?—as their dad turns to them.
Luke reaches out to Eddie with his left hand. “Now you hold this one!” he urges.
“What do you think we are, your personal bodyguards?” Eddie teases, but he clasps Luke’s hand in his own ringed one.
You expect Luke to let go and fly into the building as soon as you reach the sidewalk; instead, you feel his chubby fingers maneuvering against yours. You look down just in time to see him placing your hand in Eddie’s.
You can see that Eddie’s eyes are also drawn to your joined hands, and the both of you lift your heads at the same time and meet one another’s gaze. The heat you feel lets you know you have to be blushing just as much as Eddie is. He gives you a sheepish smile and you can tell it’s a mixture of this is absolutely the cutest thing they have ever done, and should I be letting go? Deciding to take an excuse without making it look too intentional, you step away from Eddie and open the front door for the three of them. Luke’s face has a smug smile on it as he passes you, and the proud glint in Ryan’s eyes lets you know he was the mastermind behind the plan.
“Clever little matchmakers, aren’t they?” Eddie mumbles as he comes up beside you. He takes the door and gives you a characteristically over-dramatic bow. “After you, m’lady.”
“Why, thank you,” you say, following in behind the boys. It seems now that the games and prizes are in their view, and the loud shouts of other children and the chiming of games ringing in their ears, the brothers have forgotten about the two adults behind them.
Luke is about to take Ryan’s hand and make off for some of the machines, when he realizes they don’t have any tokens yet. Suddenly, he remembers his father is there and turns around to give him pleading eyes. Eddie’s already pulling out his wallet by the time the five-year-old turns around, and you take care of watching the kids while Eddie goes to get the bronze coins with a giant mouse head on them.
“Do you like these games?” Ryan asks.
“Some of them,” you say. “I’m really good at skee ball and whack-a-mole.”
“Oh, I’m so good at whack-a-mole!” Luke says, not surprising you in the least. “If you and I play together we can win all the tickets!”
“I’ll do my best,” you promise him.
Eddie returns with a cup full of tokens. He raises an eyebrow as he looks down at his sons. Pursing his lips together, he goes to hand the cup to Luke before pulling it back to his chest. Luke whines and Eddie goes to hand it to Ryan before snatching it back.
“Daaaaddy!” Luke whines.
“Luuuuke,” Eddie mimics. “What are you going to play first?”
“I dunno,” Luke says with a shrug.
“Well, both of you tell me what you want to play first, then I’ll decide which is my favorite.”
Luke groans, but Ryan is still eyeing the cup eagerly. He also knows his dad’s tricks and knows what his favorite game is.
“Air hockey,” Ryan says.
“And he wins right there!” Eddie says, handing the cup to his oldest. “You’re going to share those, though. I hear one little squabble over the coins and I’m taking them away and the grownups will play.”
You choke over a laugh at his choice of words, that being the same term Eddie chose to describe what the two of you did before you got out of bed this morning. Obviously, Eddie did it on purpose as a smirk dances across his lips.
“Yes, Daddy,” Ryan says at the same time that Luke says, “Fine.”
You watch as they scamper off to the air hockey table. Ryan has an advantage over Luke to begin with, but it certainly doesn’t help that the youngest Munson can barely see over the top.
“Think Ryan’ll go easy on him?” Eddie murmurs in your ear, and you shiver at his closeness.
“Not a chance,” you reply. You want to wrap your arms around his waist and kiss him, but you know you can’t.
It’s like he can read your mind, because he says, “I know, babe. I hate having to hide us, too.” There’s some guilt behind his eyes, and you let your arm graze his to tell him that it’s okay.
“Even if we were ready to tell the boys—and they clearly wouldn’t have a problem with it,” you tease, alluding to their earlier hand-holding scheme, “I’m definitely not ready for their mom to know. And asking them to keep a secret from her wouldn’t be right.”
Eddie nods in agreement, scratching at the light stubble on his cheeks. “Have you thought about how we’ll tell them?”
Thought about it? God, you worried about it constantly. What if they blamed you for the divorce? What if they didn’t like you living with their dad? Were you even ready to be a stepmom?
“Uh, a little,” you lie, hoping he’s too focused on making sure the boys follow the rules to notice. “You?”
A blush creeps into his cheeks. “Oh, yeah,” he chuckles nervously. “Which reminds me—I still owe you that official first date.”
You’re about to ask him how the two relate when a familiar voice bellows, “Munson! Fancy meeting you here!” Steve Harrington strides across the thin carpet; baby Amelia is strapped to his chest and his son, Theo, is holding his hand. Nancy and their older daughter, Natalie, follow right behind him.
Eddie grins, jogging over to his friend and his family. “How’s it going, Harringtons?” He presses a kiss to Nancy’s cheek and ruffles Theo’s hair before Amelia begins to coo, taking complete control over Eddie’s attention. Your boyfriend turns to the baby, staring up at him with big blue eyes that look just like her mother’s. She babbles in her baby language and Eddie nods along, as if she’s telling him about what a rough day she’s had strapped to her father.
“Well, hello, Miss Mia,” Eddie says. Her round little fist darts out and Eddie happily offers her his finger, which she takes in her vice grip. The baby giggles, making Eddie’s whole face light up.
You stand watching them from a few feet away. It’s not the first time you’ve seen Eddie interact with a baby, but it hits you just as hard. It’s so obvious how much he wants a daughter, and seeing him play with his best friend’s baby, a genuine smile on his face has you ready to vow right then and there that you’ll give him one. Shaking yourself, you tell yourself to be realistic. You were just worrying about telling Ryan and Luke you were dating. Never mind dropping the news of, “oh yeah, I think I’ll have another kid with your dad, what do you think?”
Eddie’s voice breaks you from your thoughts. You look over to see him waving you over, calling your name. Glancing at Steve, it’s obvious he knows the nature of the relationship between you and Eddie. As you walk over to the family, you look to Nancy, trying to gauge if she knows anything by the look on her face. But there’s nothing there except for a kind smile before her daughter tugs her down to whisper something in her ear.
“You remember Steve, the one who burned the burgers at Ryan’s birthday party,” Eddie says, making Steve scoff.
“They were five seconds away from burning when you shoved the spatula in my hand and said, ‘Steve, take over for me.’” Steve rolls his eyes at Eddie before turning to face you. “Hi, it’s great to see you again.”
“You too,” you say, suddenly remembering the joke Eddie made about you fucking Steve. Something must flash across your face because Eddie’s moving on to introduce you to Amelia—or Mia, as apparently “only her favorite uncle can call her that”—and small Theo with the tousled curls. Next is Natalie, the very polite eight-year-old who is the spitting image of her mother. Then there’s Nancy, who intimidates you the most out of the Harrington clan.
“Where’s Dan the Man?” Eddie asks when he only counts three Harrington offspring.
“Playdate,” Steve says of his three-year-old son. “But he sends his warmest regards to his favorite Uncle Eddie.”
There’s a beat of awkward silence before Nancy makes the first move to break it.
“Hi, it’s nice to see you,” she says, extending her hand. “The babysitter, right?”
It shouldn’t feel like a blow to the chest. That’s what you are. What you’ve been. But it feels like with all that’s gone on the past few weeks with you, Eddie, Brittany, the boys…you deserve some other title; you just don’t know what.
“Yep, that’s me,” you say, and out of the corner of your eye you can see Eddie’s body get tense. “It’s great to see you again, too.” There’s an awkward silence before you crouch down to Natalie and Theo’s height. “Ryan and Luke are playing air hockey, if you two want to join them!” You try to pepper some excitement into your voice, and the two small Harringtons scamper off towards their friends.
Eddie clears his throat. “Come sit with us,” he says before lifting Mia from the carrier and placing her on his lap. “I think Mia wants to hang out with her Uncle Eddie, yes she does!” He lets the baby wrap her tiny hand around his forefinger, and she tries to put it in her mouth. “Um, little miss!” Eddie exclaims with feigned offense, “You can’t eat me!”
“Seriously,” Steve wrinkles his nose. “God only knows where those hands have been.” His face blanches when he realizes what he’s just implied. “I-I mean—”
“So, Steve,” you interrupt him, for your sake more than his, “Eddie told me that you’re heading back to work soon.”
“Yup,” he nods. “Figured I’d go back part-time, y’know, three days a week. Now that Amelia’s old enough to go to daycare, and we’re not having anymore kids, unless…” He glances over at his wife hopefully.
“You pushed your luck with four,” Nancy jokes, rolling her eyes. “We are closed for business.”
“If you, um, need a babysitter or something—it’ll be cheaper than daycare, and that way she’s not around all those germs while she’s so little—um, I could do it.” God, why are you such a blabbering idiot? Why can’t you just have a conversation like a normal human being?
Nancy gives you a confused look. “Don’t you watch Eddie’s kids?” The expression on her face tells you everything you need to know—she doesn’t have a clue about you and Eddie.
You press your lips together, unsure of what to say next. Why didn’t Eddie tell his friends? Is he embarrassed? Ashamed? Is he lying about this being long-term? You understood him not wanting to say anything to Luke and Ryan, but why wouldn’t he want to tell his closest friends?
“I-I do watch them, yes. But, uh, Natalie and Theo go to the same school as Ryan and Luke, right? So, I have no trouble picking all of them up from school. A-And, it kind of would work out well because I only have classes on two days this semester. So, I’d be free for Amelia and Danny on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.”
“Huh,” Steve muses, rubbing his hand along his stubbled jaw. “That is perfect, actually. Those are the three days I’ll be going into work. Would you be able to watch them at our house?”
“Of course,” you say. “As long as it’s okay that Ryan and Luke are there too.”
“They’re always welcome at our house,” Nancy says, and you can’t gauge how she feels about this particular situation. It’s not helping the little voice in the back of your head that’s been telling you that Nancy isn’t going to like you.
“Honestly,” Eddie chimes in from where he’s letting Amelia chomp on his knuckle. “It’d probably be better for Luke and Ryan this way, too. Easier to know they’ll be spending the afternoon at Uncle Steve and Aunt Nancy’s rather than wonder if they’re going to their mother or father’s place.”
“Yeah, and after Nancy comes home—or Steve, whoever would be first, I can bring Luke and Ryan wherever they’re staying. The house or the apartment.”
“You got the apartment?” Steve asks, grinning at his friend.
“I did!” he says, bouncing a fussy Amelia in his lap. “Right there on Crane Street. Three bedroom, nice sized living area and kitchen. Moving in a little under three weeks.”
“Wait,” Nancy says, brow pinching in confusion. “So, where are you staying now?”
An awkward silence settles around the table, everyone but Nancy and Amelia knowing the answer to that question. The tension keeps climbing until Eddie finally decides to speak.
“Well,” he says, taking the hand that Amelia is not currently trying to nibble on, and sliding it over the table towards you. His hand slides over yours and you don’t hesitate to link your fingers with his. “With my girlfriend.”
“Your—oh.” Nancy’s eyes widen as they land on your hands. She looks genuinely surprised, but you don’t see any anger there, which is a relief. “I didn’t know you guys were…involved.”
Eddie nods. “This probably makes me sound like a sap, but she’s…she’s been my rock throughout all of this. And she’s been there for my kids, too. They love her almost as much as I do.” He blushes, making you giggle softly.
“Do the boys know about…this?” Nancy asks, and Eddie shakes his head.
“We’re still waiting for the right time. Don’t wanna rush them or make them feel uncomfortable,” he explains. “Although from today’s antics, I don’t think they’d have much of a problem with it.” He launches into their plot to get you two to hold hands, making everyone at the table laugh. Even Amelia lets out an amused coo, though she has no idea what’s going on.
Nancy looks like she’s about to ask another question when you feel a tug on your sleeve. You look over to see Ryan, with Natalie standing next to him.
“What’s up, bud?” You smile, shifting your hand from Eddie’s as discreetly as possible.
Ryan’s suddenly shy, and you suspect it has something to do with the pretty girl he’s with. “Natalie and I were wondering if you would play whack-a-mole with us.”
“Of course!” You jump up, eager to avoid any further interrogation. “Be right back,” you say to the rest of the adults, although you’d gladly spend the rest of the afternoon hammering away at plastic rodents if it meant escaping judgment.
Eddie watches as you walk away, the gentle sway of your hips as you follow the kids to their game. He’s only drawn from his trance at the sound of Nancy’s voice.
“Eddie, what are you doing?”
“Um, checking out my girlfriend’s ass?” He shrugs, giving a sheepish grin.
Nancy shakes her head. “No, I mean, why are you dating someone so much younger than you? And while you’re getting divorced?” She looks at her husband for backup.
“I think what Nance means is, we’re happy that you’re happy, but…we just wanna make sure you’re thinking this through.”
A glare settles on Eddie’s face. “Sounds like you wanna make sure I’m not shacking up with someone younger than me because of a post-divorce crisis or some bullshit.” He hands Mia back to Steve and stands up. “You guys didn’t see what Brittany and I went through. You weren’t the one watching her traipse through the door, acting like she was going out to dinner with friends when she was actually sleeping around. All the family dinners she ditched, just to be with her boyfriends. One time, she got so caught up in one of her little ‘meetings’ that she completely missed the boys’ school holiday concert. I almost ended up going alone, but you know who went with me?”
Nancy and Steve are silent; there’s no need for them to answer.
“And this was before anything happened between us. Before she even knew that Brittany was cheating on me. She did it because she loves my boys. So fuckin’ sue me for wanting to be with someone who makes me feel…” He searches for the right word, “…who makes me feel complete.” He walks off, pulling a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket as he pushes the door open.
Amelia starts to fuss in Steve’s lap, partly because she can sense the tension around her, and partly because her favorite uncle just walked away. Steve tries to bounce her gently, pressing a kiss into her dark red hair.
“It’s okay, angel. Uncle Eddie will be right back,” he says.
“Should…should you go after him?” Nancy asks, craning her neck to try and glimpse Eddie out the front doors. All she’s able to see from her vantage point is his elbow, looking like his hand is planted on his hip.
“Nah,” Steve says with a sigh. “Known the guy long enough to know he just needs some time to cool off.”
Nancy doesn’t have time to acknowledge her husband’s statement before they hear two familiar voices shouting.
“I won it!”
“Yeah, with MY token!”
“So? You kept losing! If you played, you would’ve lost again!”
“Oh, boy,” Steve mutters under his breath, ready to hand Amelia to Nancy and intervene in the brewing conflict between Theo and Luke, but he stops when he sees you crouching down to their level.
He and Nancy watch as you hold out your hand expectantly, and Luke drops a king-size candy bar into your palm. You’re saying something that Steve can’t quite make out, but you’re not speaking from anger; in fact, both boys seem to untense as you talk to them. There’s a pause as you look at the two of them before breaking out into a grin and heading over to the table.
“Everything okay?” Nancy asks, holding her breath for an onslaught of he-did-this and he-said-that.
“Yes, Mommy!” Theo says with a smile. “Me an’ Luke were fighting because he won the candy but I gave him the token. And we didn’t know who should get it. So she,” he points to you, “said to think about a way that we could both have the candy!”
“And then I said that we can split it down the middle,” Luke proudly announces, “so now I get half an’ Theo gets half!”
“And we don’t have to fight!” Theo adds, watching as you take a plastic knife and cut into the chocolate bar. Gooey caramel oozes out of each side, and you hand each boy their piece.
As they inhale their candy and head back to the arcade, Nancy looks at you gratefully. “I can’t remember the last time that an argument between Luke and Theo didn’t end in a WWE smackdown,” she muses, giving a small laugh. “Are you some kind of miracle worker?”
Your heart sings at her approval as you return the smile. “Nah, just years of babysitting experience.”
“Well, you’re hired,” Steve blurts out. “I mean, Nancy and I will have to discuss it, like a team or whatever.”
“No, but seriously, you’re hired,” Nancy says. She looks like she has more to add, but her gaze snaps up, focusing on something right behind you.
“Welcome back,” you say, pulling him in for a quick kiss. His lips brush against yours, soft and tobacco-stained as usual, but he’s stone-faced when you gently break the embrace. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” he grumbles, scratching the back of his head as he sits back down in the hard plastic chair. “Everything good here?”
“Just your girlfriend winning Babysitter of the Year,” Steve says, handing Amelia back to Eddie before she starts to whine for him. “Luke and Theo got into it over some candy, and she resolved it before anyone had time to draw blood.”
Eddie’s toughened exterior melts a bit at his friend’s praising words, and he puts his arm around the back of your seat. “Told ya she’s the best.”
“You also think that metal is the best music genre, so excuse us for having some doubts,” Steve jokes, and Eddie flips him off.
“Do you also listen to metal, or do you actually have decent taste in music?” Nancy asks you, giggling as Eddie adds a second middle finger to his response.
“I listen to a lot of different things,” you say, “but my favorite artist has to be Billy Joel.”
Nancy’s eyes widen. “I saw him in concert!” she exclaims. “Junior year of high school, my best friend Barb and I went to Indianapolis for his Innocent Man tour.” She wrinkles her nose. “What year was that? Like, 1984? Way before your time,” she adds with a laugh. It’s a joke; she’s poking fun at her own age and not yours, but it still stings.
“An Innocent Man is his best album,” you say, trying to let the nagging insecurities roll off your back.
“You think it’s better than The Stranger?” Nancy asks. There’s no judgment in her tone, it’s purely curious. But it still makes you feel like you’re being inspected under a microscope.
“The Stranger has some of his best songs on it, for sure. But Uptown Girl is my ultimate favorite, so I’m partial to the Innocent Man album,” you explain.
“Huh, Uptown Girl is your favorite?” Steve asks.
“It is,” you tell him with a smile.
Steve smirks and slides his gaze over towards Eddie, who just raises his eyebrows at him in return.
“What?” Eddie finally asks, Mia playing with a few of his rings.
“Uptown Girl,” Steve repeats, looking at Eddie with eyes that say you really have no idea what I’m getting at? “That’s the one with the music video with the mechanics, right?” Steve says, eyes sliding back over to you. “Where the mechanic falls for the girl who is so clearly out of his league?”
Now Eddie gets it and rolls his eyes. You, on the other hand, start to giggle. A flush of heat warms your face as you realize Steve’s right, that is what happens in the music video. But Steve’s also joking around by saying you’re out of Eddie’s league—which you find preposterous.
“That’s the one,” you affirm. “But I’m no Christie Brinkley.”
“Eddie’s no Billy Joel,” Steve says with a shrug.
“No, Eddie is much better at the guitar. And singing,” you say, glancing behind you to make no kids are around before you lean in towards him. As you do, Amelia picks her head up and eyes you curiously. You give her a wave and a smile before a smile breaks out on her face in reply.
Amelia starts to wiggle in Eddie’s lap, which has him frowning. She’s always so good for him, rarely causing a fuss. But now, her small chubby arms reach out towards you. As her eyes look at you imploringly, you feel your heart melt against your ribs.
“May I?” you ask, looking over at Steve and Nancy. Their youngest clearly wants to be in your lap.
“Of course,” Nancy says. Turning back to Amelia, you take her from a pouting Eddie.
“Traitor,” Eddie huffs under his breath.
“What can I say?” you ask as you settle the baby in your lap. She happily leans against your body, her head resting against your breasts as she picks up one of your hands to inspect it all over. “I’m just so loveable.”
“Amen to that,” Eddie says with a wink.
“So, where was your first date?” Nancy asks with a bright smile. She rests her elbow on the table and her arm props up her chin. There’s a sparkle in her eye, like she’s waiting for a romantic tale.
“Uhhh,” Eddie says, not meeting her eyes, instead watching Mia in your lap. “We haven’t exactly had that yet.”
“What?” Nancy’s dreamy look is quickly replaced by a confused pout. “A few minutes ago you called her your girlfriend but you haven’t even been out on a date yet?”
You’re unable to keep the smile off your face at the fact that Eddie referred to you as his girlfriend in front of his best friends.
“Life’s been getting in the way,” you say, stepping in to defend the lack of an official date. “School, work, kids, and uh, other people.” The look you give Nancy lets her know you’re referring to Brittany without having to mention that bitch’s name. Part of you hopes that you and Nancy become good friends just so you can hear how Eddie’s friends have really felt about the narcissistic woman all along.
The conversation flows smoothly for the next thirty minutes, until Mia starts to wail, signaling that it is way past her naptime. “Looks like that’s our cue to go,” Steve says apologetically, waving his kids over from the prize area. Theo is proudly holding a Mr. Potato Head, and Natalie has enough tickets to trade in for a fuzzy purple journal and a matching pen.
“Yeah, my boys are probably ready to crash, too,” Eddie agrees. As if on cue, Luke comes bounding over with a shiny red Hot Wheels car. “Daddy, look!” He exclaims. “I can’t wait to show all my friends at school, an’ my teacher, an’ the lunch lady, an’ the—”
“I bet they’ll love that,” Eddie replies with a chuckle. “Where’s your brother?”
Luke pinches his eyebrows together at the question, as though he was unaware that he had a brother. “Oh, I think he’s still pickin’ out a prize. But nothing is cooler than my HOT WHEELS!” He yells the last part as loudly as his little lungs allow and sticks the car out in front of him.
“Jesus H, how much sugar did you have?” Eddie mumbles, rubbing his eyes. He glances over towards the prize area again and calls for his older son.
“Be right there!” Ryan calls back, and as he makes his way back to you, you see a matching journal and pen set in his hand, nearly identical to Natalie’s, except this one is yellow.
“I didn’t know you liked to write!” You motion towards the prize.
Ryan flashes a sweet smile. “Actually, this is for you,” he says shyly. “I figured you could use it to take notes at school.”
Your heart melts at the gesture. “Ry, I love it! But you didn’t have to spend your tickets on me!”
“You showed me and Natalie how to win at whack-a-mole, so I wanted to get you a prize.”
“I can’t wait to bring this to class,” you tell him. “And I love the color, too. Very sunny and warm.”
“My Hot Wheels is red!” Luke yells, shoving the car in your face. “See? It goes vroooom!”
Eddie picks up his younger son and flings him over his shoulder. “Munsons, let’s ship out!” His eye catches yours as he says it, but he doesn’t correct himself. “Onwards!”
Once you’ve all bid your goodbyes to the Harrington’s, the four of you pile back into the truck. Luke drives his Hot Wheels over his legs, across the seat, and over as far on Ryan’s legs as he can reach. The little motor noises he makes with his mouth have Eddie raising his volume a little just to get their attention.
“Hey, guys?”
“Yeah, Daddy?” Ryan asks, swatting Luke’s car away from him.
“I’ve got some news for you,” Eddie says. Though he’s driving and focusing on the road, you can see both boys in the mirror of your sun visor. At Eddie’s declaration, they lean in towards one another and Luke points from you to their dad, and Ryan murmurs something too low for you to hear. They both catch you looking at them in the mirror and snap back to how they were originally sitting, Luke giving you an over-the-top cheesy grin, and Ryan’s face turns pink from having been caught conspiring with his little brother.
“What is it?” Luke asks.
“I got an apartment. Which means that you guys can come stay with me half of the time!”
Both boys cheer, forgetting in their glee how they both thought the announcement would have something to do with you.
“Where is it?” Ryan asks.
“Do I get my own room?” Luke questions.
“It’s by the mall. And yes, both of you get your own rooms. I move in soon and then we can decorate your rooms however you want,” Eddie says.
“I want a Hot Wheels room!” Luke says, making his new car do trick flips in the air.
“When do you move in?” Ryan asks.
“A little over two weeks. Maybe before then though, you guys can help me shop. I’m gonna need a lot of stuff.”
“Like what?” Luke asks, his eyes still focusing on his new toy.
“Well, plates and towels and all kinds of stuff,” Eddie says as he turns down the street his old house is on—Brittany’s house now.
“And a dog?” Luke presses his luck.
“Keep dreaming, buddy,” Eddie says.
Luke huffs out a groan, but Ryan speaks up.
“When are we gonna see you next, Daddy?”
The question breaks Eddie’s heart. What’s worse, is that he doesn’t know the answer. Next weekend seems like such a long time away. But if he tells them he’ll see them before then and Brittany doesn’t let him? Then he looks like a liar.
“Not sure, pal,” Eddie says as he parks the truck in front of the house. “Hopefully during the week, but if not, next weekend for sure.”
The lawn is overgrown now that Eddie isn’t there to mow it every other week. The weeds are popping up in the once pristine garden, and Eddie swells with pride at knowing he was the one that kept this place looking as good as it did.
“Should I stay here?” you ask Eddie softly. You briefly have to encounter Brittany every day since she comes home just to tell you to leave—but not in the presence of Eddie. If the kids are in the room when you’re leaving, Brittany’s pretty decent about it. If they’re out of earshot, it’s not uncommon for her to gripe, “You’re free to go. Back to your apartment where you’re fucking my husband while I’m here taking care of our kids.” Before, it might have bothered you. Now it’s all you can do not to laugh in her face before you’re out the door. She never pays you, either, and you know it’s intentional. Brittany must figure that if Eddie has to pay you, you’ll feel like a prostitute or something. Nothing could be farther from the truth though, when the first and last thing Eddie does every day is tell you how much he loves you. That, plus the fact that you know you take care of her children way more—and way better—than she does, has her attempted insults rolling right off your back.
“You can come in if you want to,” Eddie says as he unbuckles his seatbelt. “Don’t let…her keep you out.” Eddie was going to use a far less friendly term, but he remembered the boys are in the backseat.
You get out of the truck along with everyone else, and Ryan takes your hand as you make your way up to the front door. Did you trust Eddie being alone in the house with his soon-to-be ex-wife? Absolutely. Did you trust Brittany to be alone with him? Not on her life.
Eddie doesn’t bother knocking, and why should he? It’s still legally his house as well, after all. The four of you step inside and Luke is instantly running to his collection of Hot Wheels in his room, eager to add his new one to the mix.
“My kids are home—oh. You’re here.” Brittany’s words do nothing but have you resisting the urge to roll your eyes. “You know you’re not getting paid for this, right? Unless you’ve struck a bargain about how much you charge for sucking—”
“Okay,” Eddie says, clapping his hands loudly a few times. He looks down at Ryan and ruffles his hair. “Why don’t you get your backpack organized for school tomorrow?”
“Sure.” Ryan gives his dad a tight hug before moving onto you. “Glad you came with us,” he tells you. “Thanks for helping with the game.”
“And thank you for my new favorite journal,” you say, squeezing him in your arms. “I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?”
“Okay!” He heads down the hallway towards his room, and once he’s out of sight, Eddie is rounding on Brittany.
“Seriously?” he demands in a low tone. “You were about to say that in front of our seven-year-old? Jesus, Britt. That’s great for me in the custody case, you know, so thanks.”
Brittany rolls her eyes and crosses her arms over her chest. “I don’t need parenting advice from the orphan.”
You don’t realize your fists are clenched and you’ve taken a step in Brittany’s direction until Eddie’s hand is on your shoulder, pulling you back. An amused smile curls on Brittany’s lips as she looks you up and down.
“Look,” Brittany says, turning her gaze back to Eddie. “I’m going out of town so you’re taking the boys. But not to the harlot’s place. So work something else out.”
“And what days will you be gone?” Eddie asks, avoiding the bait she laid before him. “You know, so I can let the neighbors know that if they see any strange men entering the house, it’s not one of your tools this time, and that you’re probably being robbed.”
“I’m leaving Thursday morning,” Brittany tells him with a glare. “Come back Sunday night. Late.”
“Feel free not to come back,” Eddie says, turning around and heading for the door.
“So, you’re watching ‘em, right?” Brittany sneers.
“Of course,” Eddie says, turning back around to face her. “I’m not just going to let my kids sit here all alone. Who am I? You?” With that, Eddie swings his arm over your shoulders and heads out the front door, leaving a steaming Brittany behind you.
Once the door clicks closed behind you, you turn your head to look at Eddie as you walk back to the truck. “Do you want me to pick the boys up from school on Thursday and take them somewhere else?”
“Fuck, no,” Eddie says with a laugh. “I’m staying here with them. You’re more than welcome to join as well.”
“Hmm,” you muse as Eddie opens the passenger’s side door for you. “Fucking in the bed and knowing Brittany will be sleeping on it does sound pretty amazing.”
Eddie presses a kiss to your forehead once you’re in your seat. “I love the way your mind works, beautiful girl.”
Back at your apartment, Eddie flops down onto the couch and heaves his legs over the arms with an exaggerated groan. “Remind me why I continue to chase the boys around Chuck E. Cheese?” He laments dramatically. “I think my arthritis is flaring.”
“First of all, you don’t even have arthritis, you drama queen,” you tease him, gently sitting on his outstretched legs. “And second, you do it because you love them.”
He smirks before pulling you down on top of him, making you yelp out in surprise. “I do love those little menaces,” he agrees, pressing a kiss to your temple. “Hate saying goodbye to them.”
“I know, babe,” you say, nuzzling into his chest. The sound of his heartbeat relaxes your muscles and helps you steady your breath. “Hopefully you won’t have to do that much longer.”
“Yeah, okay,” Eddie laughs bitterly. “I don’t know what judge is gonna agree to give a parentless orphan full custody. How the hell do I even know what to—”
You silence him with a kiss, slow and passionate, while caressing his cheek with your thumb. His echo of Brittany’s orphan comment isn’t lost on you. When you finally break the kiss, you can see his misty brown eyes. “Eddie Munson, do not let her in your head. Ryan and Luke adore you. If you had a fan club, they’d be co-presidents.”
“But—”
“No ‘buts,’” you shake your head.
Eddie pouts. “Not even your butt?” You giggle, and the corners of his mouth tug up in the beginning of a smile. “I just worry that if I do get custody, I’m not gonna be enough for them, y’know? What if I’m not a good enough dad without their mom?”
You brush a lock of hair from his face and tuck it behind his ear. “You are the best dad, and that has nothing to do with her,” you insist. “Everything you’ve done for your kids has been because of the love you have for them. That won’t ever change.”
“That’s true,” he muses, lacing his fingers with yours.
“And,” you add, wriggling in closer to him, “when Brittany’s away, you’ll get to spend every waking moment that they’re not in school with them. And probably some non-waking moments, too, since they love to wake you up in the middle of the night.”
“Also true,” Eddie laughs. “Well, mostly. I’ll have to leave them with Wayne while we go on our date. Unless you found today’s outing to be the pinnacle of romance.”
“Tempting,” you giggle along with him. “Really, though; you’ve already asked me to be your girlfriend, you’re staying with me, and we’ve said ‘I love you,’ like, a million times. You don’t have to take me on a—”
Eddie holds you even tighter, effectively silencing you. “LET ME WOO MY LADY!” he all but shouts, wrapping his legs around yours.
“Okay, okay, I’ve been wooed,” you relent, wiping tears from your eyes after laughing so hard. “So, where are you taking me, my knight in shining armor?”
“That is a surprise,” Eddie says mischievously, wiggling his eyebrows.
“But I have to know what to wear,” you say with a pout, hoping it will work on him as well as his pouts work on you. But no dice.
“I can pick out your outfit, baby.” The gleam in his eye has you immediately shaking your head, though.
“I’ll end up wearing one of the pieces of lingerie you bought for me last week,” you say.
“Would that really be so bad?” Eddie teases, running his fingers up and down your spine.
“You’d want other people to see me in that? You’d take me out in public wearing that?” You raise an eyebrow at him, already knowing what the answer is.
“Fuck no, I’m the only one who gets to see you like that,” Eddie says as he buries his head in your neck. He places soft kisses against the skin there as you giggle.
“Okay, then I need to know what kind of date I’m getting ready for,” you say.
Eddie pulls back and looks at you. He’s clearly deliberating, and you can almost hear the gears in his mind clanking. Eventually, he shakes his head. “I’ll tell Jess where I’m taking you. She can help you pick out your evening attire.”
“Can I at least know when?” you ask.
“Friday night,” Eddie tells you. “I’ll even take off work early and pick the gremlins up from school. That way you can get ready at home, and I can pick you up like a proper date.”
Grinning, you lean in and press your lips against his. “S’gonna be the best date ever.”
Tumblr media
A few days later, Eddie’s finishing up his lunch break from work and heading back out to finish installing some new brake pads when he hears the familiar voice.
“Munson!” Steve calls out from the reception area, jogging over to his friend. “How’s it going?”
“Can’t complain,” Eddie replies with a grin. “Got my boys again this weekend, since Brittany’s gonna be out of town.” He leans on the hood of the car. “What can I do ya for?”
“One oil change and one playdate,” Steve laughs. “Nancy really loved getting to meet your girl, and the kids love her, too. Natalie keeps asking if she can take them to Chuck E. Cheese.”
A blush creeps into Eddie’s cheeks when he hears his friend praising you. “Yeah, she’s kinda the best. You want synthetic?”
“Huh?”
“The oil,” Eddie clarifies. “You want synthetic, right?”
Steve shrugs. “Whatever you usually do. You’re the car guy.”
Eddie gives a small salute as Steve tosses him his keys. “I’m gonna take her out on Friday, so maybe we can do Saturday?”
“What?” Even after years of friendship, Steve still has trouble adjusting to the way Eddie’s thoughts bounce all over the place. “Oh, the playdate? Yeah, Saturday works for us.”
“Sounds good,” Eddie says. He goes to head towards the car before stopping and turning back to his friend. “Do me a favor before Saturday?”
“What’s that?” Steve asks.
“Hide all the Billy Joel music in your house.”

Halsin x fem Tav — Fluff, Angst
Summary: Tav returns back to Halsin pregnant, tension rises as she remembers Halsin abandoning her, clueless of the child she was unknowingly baring. She needs a safe place to give birth, and she asks him for aid.
T/W: abandonment, angst
Note: this short fic is inspired by this fanart, but a little more angsty.
The once noble adventurer who saved Baldur’s Gate was back to exploring. Halsin had broken it to her that he would not be staying with her in the city. So, what reason did she have to be in the city? It served her no purpose anymore. Traveling with her group made her realize that she loved the outdoors, the unknown, and helping out friends along the way. This was her calling in life.
However…There was a tiny-tiny problem. She was heavily pregnant. By the time Tav was on a new adventure, she realized she was baring a child—Halsin’s child. The idea of Halsin dismissing Tav’s pregnancy is what scared her most. Halsin still didn’t even know she was pregnant. She hadn’t seen him from the day he spoke of a plan that did not include her. That’s what really set her off on another adventure, heartbreak. In her head, trying to forget about Halsin was the best option for her. But that thought became a thing of the past.
Her belly grew and grew over the months of travel, but Tav had to come to a rest stop. She was unable to walk far distances, and her ankles became sore and swollen. Tav needed aid, her baby was due anytime now. In her heart, she knew she needed to show her face back to Halsin. She was dreading it, the thought of being a single mother was more soothing than seeing him again. It hurt her so much when Halsin left. It was like she was just someone to lay in bed with. She was heading back to the grove after so many months. They were good people, but the tension of seeing Halsin was weighing heavy on her heart.
It was just as Tav remembered, tall greenery with trees at every glance. It was beautiful, especially in the spring when all the leaves grew back. Tav held a staff, it helped her keep balance with her big belly weighing her down. She limped into the grove and she could hear the banter of children. It was a sweet melody of laughter, teasing, and singing.
Tav knew the grove was the safest place to give birth. Anxiety gnawed at her as she wondered if she would receive the help she so desperately sought. Her swollen belly served as a constant reminder of the life growing within her, adding an extra layer of vulnerability to her already fragile state. Tav saw the children who were playing, stop and gaze at her. One child in particular ran away as the rest continued to play.
~
The child ran to the nearest adult, they tugged on his shirt with urgency. It was the arch-Druid himself, Halsin. It was all too odd for a child to seem so concerned around these parts. It set alarms off when Halsin peered down at the worried child.
“There’s a woman! I never seen her before— s-she’s over there! Her belly is this big!” The child stretched out their arms around their stomach, insinuating her pregnancy.
“A woman?” His eyebrows furrowed, and he was confused. There was a small memory in his head that sparked. The memory of Him and Tav, when he promised to wait for her arrival. A little hope clung to this thought. However, it was questionable about what the child was talking about with her stomach.
Halsin patted the child’s head, “I’ll take care of it, little one.” He smiled before walking towards the commotion.
The sound of children’s voices filled the air. And well— there she was. Tav, sitting on the ground with small hands touching her belly. Tav was surrounded by children, she smiled warmly as they gather around her growing belly. With wide eyes and curious minds, the little ones reach out to touch the round, soft skin, gently feeling the small kicks.
“It is you! And you’re—“ he stopped in thought. His tongue stopped his sentence as he finally had a perfect view of her stomach. Tav was heavily pregnant and it was a sight for sore eyes. Halsin always daydreamed about the day he would finally reunite with her, but not like this…his mind started to race in an instant. Whose child was she baring? Astarion’s face popped up in his head, and he despised it.
Tav’s heart sank in her chest. He was just as handsome as she remembered. His broad shoulders, aging like fine wine, and that scar that was so prominent over his eye. She noticed he appeared healthy, there were no more dark circles under his eyes and he was visibly happy. How could he be so happy without her?
"Pregnant. I know, surprise...I was hoping you could help me and my baby have a safe resting spot. They'll be here soon, you know." The children drifted away from her belly as Halsin held out his hand to pull her up from the ground. To her surprise, he brought her body close to his into a hug. One that engulfed her small body into his arms and chest.
"I'm happy to see you, Tav" He gave her a squeeze before letting her go, cautious of her big belly.
Tav felt conflicted. How could he say he missed her, yet she felt so lonely for months without him. A mixture of anger, sadness, and happiness filled her heart but it was all too many emotions at once.
Halsin caught a glimpse of Tav's shaky hands and legs. She was definitely nervous and her body language gave it away immediately. Halsin felt sad and confused, "Shall we uh, find a private place to talk? I'd love to catch up with you."
To her dismay, Halsin scooped her up into his arms, "If you don't mind. You look terribly tired— let me help you."
Tav's face flushed red, but her eyes burned with anger. There was a slight gloss over her eyes as he carried her to a secluded plane, coated with moss, flowers, and soft green blades. Halsin carefully kneeled down, placing Tav gently on the grass. He got himself comfortable next to her, noticing her angry stare, "I know it's been some time since then. I feel like our reactions are different from one another, did I anger you, little love?"
The sun was shining through the trees, illuminating the area with a soft golden light. They were surrounded by tall trees, lush green ferns, and wildflowers in full bloom. The birds were chirping and the wind was gently blowing through the trees. Tav would have enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere, taking in the beauty of the nature around them.
However, she was mad, and he knew it, "Love? If it were my love, I would've never abandoned them. I would've never made them feel half of what you have made me feel. Do you even have a clue of how destroyed I was?" Her eyes glossed even more as she tried to hold back frustrated tears.
"Tav, I had waited for your arrival ever since, I never wanted to hurt you but we knew where my presence was needed. All those children needed me and I can not go against my natural duty to protect them." His voice felt angered and sorrowful all at the same time. Halsin felt horrible to stare at someone he truly cared about, crumbling because of him.
"Halsin, I needed you! More than ever now." Tav clutched her arms around her swollen baby, a tear rolling down her cheek as she angrily wiped it away, "All I am asking of you is to give me and my baby a safe place, only for a little...I will leave with my baby, and we can forget anything that happened between us. I've been heartbroken for long enough." She hated to show him just how much he destroyed her.
"Forget anything happened? I could never do such a task. You don't understand what it is that I've done for my people." Halsin shook his head in disagreement, his face saddened. "And now that you're here, I want to give you that as well. My love for you could never be tarnished no matter how much time passed between us. I wish you knew how heavy my heart is for you. So much so that I haven't yearned for a single soul unless it was yours."
Halsin sighed and placed his hand over her belly, the warmth of his hand comforted her, "Whose child are you carrying, my heart. I won't be mad at you, but I must know...For my own selfish reasons." His heart clenched and he held his breath.
Tav placed her hand over his. He didn't even know he was going to be a dad, and any day now too. She was silent for a moment before her lips could part, "I didn't know until you were far gone...Halsin I don't know how to be a mother. I was so lost and when you left me, I felt my whole world crashing down after I just got done saving it. But it only hurts me more that you're the reason I'm baring a child...I've spent most of my pregnancy alone, Halsin."
Halsin felt his chest clench up, his palms went sweaty and his eyes widened. The timeline made sense, and Tav would never deceive him with such an event. He believed her, but he couldn't believe he was going to be a dad so soon. "I— Tav, why did you not come to me quicker? Send me a letter or pigeon to pass on a message." Halsin moved closer to Tav and hugged her tightly. God's he felt guilty. He never wanted Tav to be alone with his child. He needed to fix this, fast. "You must stay here under my care. I can not fix all that's already happened, but I offer you my love and devotion. I want us, this, our child together."
Tav sunk her head, her eyes burned with the tears rolling down her cheeks continuously. She was terribly insecure about her relationship with Halsin. He left one day and now wants it all with her. It was an extreme jump for Halsin considering how independent he was. However, she needed to trust his word, she had no other choice. She needed his guidance to help her raise this baby they created together.
"Please, no more sad tears...We can start fresh together here, and build our bond. Such wonders of nature have blessed us with a child. This is something we must celebrate, together." He kissed her wet cheek, the softness of his lips pressed against her skin. Then, his lips pressed eagerly against hers. "I've waiting so long to kiss you again. I would want no other woman to give me a child but you. You are an evergreen that lives in my heart. It has grown vines and flowers, it feeds the very depths of my heart, and I loved you for many days, weeks, and months. And here you are. Coming to me with the most welcoming surprise." He placed another gentle kiss on her stomach.
Her sobbing halted to steady sniffles. Her heart raced but Halsin seemingly knew what he was going to do. Thank the gods he was welcoming because she planned for the worst reaction. maybe he truly did love her. Even when he weirdly showed it by leaving. This was a painful memory she needed to push aside for now. All Tav cared about was giving her baby a safe home, and now Halsin as well.
"I'm nervous...I don't know how this baby stuff works. I'm happy you want to be there for me through all this. Please just— don't leave me again."
"How could I? You've given me a love that stretches far more than feelings. A child, nature's ultimate form of love. I will cherish you and our child forever. " He chuckled softly, "I also picked up a few skills with all these kids around now. Even at my vintage, I'm confident we can do this together, my love." He grabbed her body, placing her on his lap as his arms wrapped around her body. Halsin's chin rested on the nape of her neck. Her scent was the same lavender sweetness.
Tav held Halsin closely back, "Halsin, I never questioned your ability to be a father. I was just unsure of our relationship."
"Our fates intertwined together far deeper than we could've ever foretold. The universe gave you to me when I was depressed about the shadow curse. A gift like this must be shared. I would love the grove to welcome the arch-druid's first child."

You know what breaks my fucking heart? How much of a neglectful husband Viserys is.
Not because he keeps impregnating Aema even if she has expressed how she can’t keep doing this anymore. Not because he murders Aema in cold blood instead of letting her die peacefully in her sleep-induced state, just for a chance to obtain a male heir. Not because he is dismissive of Alicent’s wants and needs. Not because he doesn’t support Alicent’s and their children’s rights. Not because he forgets Alicent’s name and their children’s existence entirely.
No. I hate him for what he doesn’t tell Alicent the first time she visits him.
We know from Daemon that Otto’s wife died recently, so Viserys is aware of it, too. He says it in front of him after all. She is not even cold yet, her death is not something that happened a long time ago. Her family hasn’t recovered from it yet. Her loss is a fresh wound.
Alicent is just a child but her trauma helps her understand certain difficult situations. Losing an important family member is an experience she shares with Viserys so she knows how he feels. If a child can understand your pain, then you as an adult are obviously in a position to understand her pain as well.
This girl, Alicent, tells him how much it pains her that no one seemed to have the courage to address her directly, to tell her that they are aware of what happened to her, to comfort her and show sympathy, to tell her how sorry they are she lost her mother.
Viserys knows Alicent lost her mother a while ago. Viserys knows how losing a close family member feels like. Viserys knows that Alicent desperately wants someone to tell her how sorry they are for what she went through.
Alicent, a hurt child, steps forward and comforts a middle aged adult. She tells him how sorry she is for his loss.
Viserys doesn’t tell her he’s sorry for her loss, too.

“(name)-sensei! Why’d you look so n-nerv—“ His little eyebrows furrow, tiny hand coming up to scratch his head in focused thought. “Nerv-y?”
(He promised Nanamin he would use a new word today.)
You giggle as you ruffle his hair. “That was a wonderful try, Yuuji-kun.” Two of your hands settle on his squishy cheeks as he stares up at you. “But I suppose I am a little nervous.”
Hmm… So that’s how it was pronounced! He’s gonna tell Nanamin he tried anyway. But… What’s causing you to be this way, though? That faraway look in your eyes is troubling him too… Oh!
“Didya forget to eat today, (name)-sensei?!” A pat to your knee as he stares up at you, all sparkly gaze and blushy cheeks with a smile that was overflowing with glowing excitement.
So cute. He reminds you of a blooming flower.
“Ahah, Yuuji-kun that’s not—“
Blonde, brunettes and raven-haired heads perk up at the little boy’s voice, their attention lost on the toys as they quickly start to trickle out of your sight and making a run for their cubbies. Are they-
“I got riceballs today!”
“Nanamin said he made me karaage!”
“Papa said our chara-bens are cute today too!”
“Daddy bought us kikufuku mochi for dessert!”
“Ahh, wait— Children-!” You realized a little too late.
It isn’t long before a clatter of bento boxes and a small assortment of various treats settle themselves in front of you, scattered into a small pile as the twins start pushing their treats forward a little more to make you notice it first.
“Mmm! (nwame)-swensei mwakes goodsh food!” Kugisaki Nobara finds herself being fed an adult’s lunch as she chews, her eyes closed in satisfaction and her feet kicking about as she continues to savour the taste of the food you were sharing with her.
(Sharing is an understatement. You’re surprised by how much she could eat, and how she was vacuuming up almost the entirety of your own packed lunch.)
“I’ll mwake sure to-“ She stops when she sees your stern gaze, not minding at all but taking the moment to swallow. “Forget my bento more off-then!” You only giggle as you shake your head in response, wiping off the grain of rice at the corner of her lips.
“Your grandma will be sad if you don’t eat her food often, Nobara-chan. You have to remember to bring it all the time, okay?”
“Mmm…” She’s still thinking as she watches your amused face, a hand on her cheek. “If (name)-sensei thinks so…” Her face breaks into a grin as she shows you a thumbs-up. “Okay!”
You hear several growls next to you. A turn of your head reveals the wanting gaze of the rest of your kids, all hungry ministrations of eating their own packed lunches stopped.
“Eh…?” The chopsticks in your hand have paused midair in bewilderment, wrist just in distance of Megumi as he makes a small grab for it, leading your utensil into his mouth as he noms down on the tamagoyaki you held.
“…it’s good…!” His eyes sparkle as he turns his head to face the growing pouts of his classmates, the rising jealousy not at all apparent to him as he feels you gently pry the chopsticks out of his mouth, a small tap to his nose in slight scolding that makes him nearly want to sneeze.
“Nanako wants some too!”
“M-mimiko as well!”
“I’m still hungry, (name)-sensei!”
“E-eh???? (name)-sensei was feeding me first!”
In the end, you had an empty lunch box and a very, very satisfied class of kids who had very full bellies that day.
(Are they trying to pay you back for that day? You’re really starting to think you have the sweetest kids to ever exist.)
“You all…” Megumi shifts closer to you, nestling himself on your lap as your hand goes up to support him, beginning to peek up at your face. You had started to tremble from where you sat on the floor of the foam-tiled play area, growing silent as the rest of the kids slowly crowded around you.
(Were they in trouble? Are you upset with them…? Please, please don’t be! They’re good kids!)
Megumi catches a glimmer forming at the corner of your eye, his small hands starting to grip onto your shirt and his green eyes starting to widen as he realizes that you’re cryi—
“Are so cute!” You’re already scooping them all into your arms, your face hot with gratuitous joy as you embrace the squealing kids close to you, enjoying their cuddly warmth and pats of your face.
(“Oh, but-” You begin to tut, staring down at the five kids squished together on your lap. “I have my own lunch today, kids.”
There’s a glower on their faces, disappointment and disheartened expressions clear and evident. It squeezes at your heart in guilt as the colorful plastic wrapping of one of the sweets is captured from the corner of your eye.
“B-but! It seems that I would need help clearing all these treats up!”)
——
You tiptoe out the room, gently shutting the door of the nap room behind you.
“Good work today.” Ieiri Shoko is sipping her second cup of coffee of the day as she appears behind you, clearly amused at your frazzled form after putting the children to sleep.
“There’s nothing good about today…” You’re sulking as you slump against the door, your knees bent as you let out a loud sigh.
A smirk appears on her face. “Why? Scared of being alone with a couple guys and their kids?” She heard the whole conversation. Perks of being one of the first few to arrive just to get some time to be alone with you.
Your feet shift nervously as you hands begin to fiddle with each other, a sigh escaping your lips as you lean back against the door. “You know I’m no good at being social, Shoko…”
You’re pouting at her as your cheeks start to warm from embarrassment. “What if they find me weird and unsettling and—“ You nearly want to scream. “What if they pull Megumi and the twins out of school because they think I’m unsuitable—“ You stop yourself. “But at the same time if they’ve moved into the neighborhood I’ll be running into them 24/7! If they find out I’m just some loser who stays at home all day and reads—“
You cough to cut yourself off at your spiel. Relax… You take in a deep breath as you finally start to calm. “And what if…” Your eyes flicker towards the ground. “They just… Don’t like me?”
A beat passes, and another.
Her eyes trail off to the side, letting the silence beat amongst the both of you. “They’ll like you like I love you, (name).” Her dark eyes meet yours, her steps stopping right before you as you catch the sight of her heels. “And if you’re so worried, you could always catch dinner with me instead as an excuse.”
(She would even call him up using the school register to tell him you can’t make it because your plant died or some other stupid excuse if that was what you wanted.)
“You’re so kind Shoko…!” You tackle her into a hug. “Your kindness precedes a being like me!” You pull back, glancing up at her blank, unimpressed gaze as you let a smile grace your face. “Jokes aside,” You scratch your cheek.
“I think it’s too late to even fully reject him now…”
You gulp nervously as the domineering man stood before you, all smiles and teeth and turned up eyes behind dark sunglasses that gleam with expectant want.
“I-I think that I have—“ Distance is closed in an instance, a towering frame leaning over you and breaking all boundaries of personal space.
“Y’know, the kids are gonna be super super excited once they find out we’re moving in next to ya!” Large porcelain hands reach up to grasp both of your own in his. “Won’tcha please come make them happy? Megumi and the twins talk about you lots, ya know? They even forget to eat sometimes when they get to tell us all about you.” There’s a cute pout on his face that makes your stomach swirl, your bewildered eyes starting to twirl as the scent of his cologne invades your nose…
(He’s so handsome… And so thoughtful of his kids… Ahh, you can feel your heart stutter…)
“I-I suppose I do have some free time today…!” He’s so close! If he leans down anymore, your lips would be—!
“Oho, that’s nice to hear, sensei!” A grin and a pat to your head. “We should have fully settled in by this afternoon, so I’ll come pick ya up after school, kay?” He pulls himself away (begrudgingly) as he pats his pockets for his car keys.
“O-oh, that’s not—“
“See ya later, sweetheart!” He’s practically already skipping out the door, sending you a salute and a wink as you stand there in stunned silence.
It looks like you have plans tonight with your neighbour… You turn towards the corridor before you pause in your steps abruptly, a small chill going up your spine.
Did you ever tell him your unit number…?
(Oh, you must’ve forgotten to close a window somewhere. No time to dawdle on your bad memory now when the kids’ health is at stake!)

Notes:
You did actually go pretty hungry that day considering your lunch was fully consumed by 5 overeager toddlers. Shoko shared her convenience store sandwich with you.
Suguru heard the story of your shared lunch from Mimiko and used that as an excuse to talk recipes with you. Character-bentos are a popular topic between the both of you.
nvy’s aftertalk:
to all the anons who guessed that i was watching gakuen babysitters i am ashamed to admit that you are right i am a sucker for babies and cannot stop rewatching this dumb anime

Bad Idea Right - Part 7
Eris x Reader/Azriel’s Daughter
Soft Eris! Brooding Azriel! Meddling Nyx! Nosey Azalea! Reader has feelings! Enjoy.
Part 6 Part 7.5 (Prequel Headcanon)
Tumblr media
Warnings: Language
How convenient that the moment I show up in a compromising position at my door step with my half-naked lover? Fuck buddy? For all intents and purposes we’ll say boyfriend to spare my father from a heart attack at such a salacious relationship status. Surprise, Eris! You may be an oh-so-noble High Lord but now you’re my boyfriend too. Time to meet the parents! Again. But I digress, my father’s busy schedule conveniently cleared right up as Eris and I showed up at the door.
And Eris, the bastard, accepted his complete and utterly insincere offer to come in for lunch.
He winnowed back to his place beforehand to change into something more befitting of the situation at hand.
It was my intention to dart to my room, put on more clothing than my skimpy underwear and hide there until Eris returned but…. Azalea had other things in mind. No sooner than I dressed, she barreled in through the door.
“Sissy! I missed you. Why didn’t you have clothes on?”
Following her into the room came my mother. “Azalea, why don’t you go help dad set the table.”
Her jaw dropped “But-“
“Please, Azalea. We don’t want Eris to return while we are unprepared. That would make us poor hosts.”
She mulled over it for a moment before letting out a breath. “Fiiiiiine.”
As she ran off down the hall, my mother approached me, seating herself on the edge of the bed.
Here comes the lecture.
Her soft face, frozen in eternal youth remained neutral. “Y/N, your father was mortified to walk out and find you two like that.”
I waited for her to continue but to my absolute shock, she raised her hand to her mouth and LAUGHED. A true, genuine laugh.
“I’m- I’m so sorry. I know it must have been so uncomfortable for you.” Her laughter was contagious, I couldn’t hold back the very slight grin that tilted the corners of my lips upwards. “I just- he’s so hard to surprise. I can count on both hands the amount of times I’ve ever seen him shocked, and Y/N, half of them have been because of you.”
Her laughter softened as she placed a hand softly upon my cheek. I leaned into it. “I love you, Y/N. Your antics and the surprise you bring to our lives makes immortality far less dull.”
I didn’t realize how much I needed this moment with my mother. It was easy to forget that she was more than just “mother”. She was a strong female with a sense of humor and more purpose than just tending to a home and garden and doting over her children.
I am an adult now. She is still very young in fae terms. My mother could be my friend if I’d only let her.
As her laughter died, a memory struck me.
The burning flame drives away the wild shadow.
“The vision from Starfall. What about that? You seemed so upset.”
Mother took my hand. “Y/N, my visions are only a piece of a puzzle, not the entire picture. It could mean anything. The situation itself took me by surprise and the vision felt ominous in the moment but it may not mean anything. And despite the situation that just unfolded at our door, I trust you to use your best judgement. If you feel safe and happy, that’s all I can ask for.”
Elain Archeron, seer and pragmatist. Who knew?
——————
Forks scraped on plates and glasses clanked on wood as the five of us tensely ate our lunch. My appetite non-existent at this point in time. Eris decided to show up in his most noble High Lord attire because why not make this lunch more stiff and uncomfortable than it needs to be? And while he may have been dressed for the part of serious High Lord, his posturing oozed irreverence. with a saccharine grin plastered onto his face. A silent battle of wills raged between he and my father, who would cut the tension by breaking through the silence first?
My father, cauldron bless him, only sat stiffly in his chair, trying his damndest (and failing) not to clench his jaw, while his fists wrapped tightly around his utensils - as if he were afraid he’d set them down and his fists would immediately go flying toward Eris’ face.
My mother sat directly across from me, passing the occasional eyebrow raise in my direction - a silent sentiment of “Males. Am I right?”
Meanwhile, Azalea bounced eagerly in her chair, eyes darting back and forth between my father and Eris. Sparing the two males of a shot to their male egos, she broke the silence. “Well??? Is anyone going to say something?”
“Azalea” my mother warned. To which Azalea let out a dismissive huff before opening her mouth again. “Hey fire-uh, Eris! Do you love my sister? Are you going to get married?”
I choked on my water, father somehow managed to grip his utensils tighter, and Eris only chuckled. “I’d have to get her to go on a proper date with me first.”
While his intentions were genuine with the statement, my father visibly paled as if remembering what two adults who aren’t on dates tended to get up to.
“Ohh! A date! Sissy, why don’t you go on one?”
“Eris is a High Lord, Azzy. It’s hard to schedule time for one.”
“What about Aunt Feyre’s art exhibit? You could dress up fancy and go to Sevenda’s and Eris, you could get her flowers!”
A small part of me lit up at that. I had never considered a date as an option. A larger part of me wanted to fall through the floor immediately only to resurface once everyone had left the table.
Eris glanced toward me, likely noticing my slightly reddened cheeks. With a grin he said, “I’d like that. When’s this exhibit, Azalea?”
The comment sent Azalea into a frenzy as she gave him all the details of the day, the time, the gallery, her favorite works, and into her own interest in art and painting, and how Aunt Feyre keeps a picture that she’d painted of a Unicorn - which is very different from a Pegasus, thank you very much - framed in her gallery.
Azalea may be the biggest busybody of us all but gods was I thankful for her chatty ways and tendency to overshare in the moment.
As Azalea rambled on a loud knock banged on the door, far too loud for my lingering headache from the night before. My shadows practically hissed in irritation at the disruption. And then, as I saw my fathers tense features shift from his own state of irritation into relief, rage flickered inside me.
I glowered. “Are you fucking kidding me, dad?”
Ignoring my question completely, he strode to the door only to be greeted by Cassian’s hulking figure and Rhys.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how cheeky he was feeling, Nyx strode in behind them.
If Eris was phased, he didn’t show it. Powerful High Lord or not, I had to give it to him. My- the male had balls.
Cassian clapped Eris on the shoulder as he strutted in. “To what do we owe this pleasure, High Lord?” Cassian’s ability to bait with only his tone of voice was rather impressive. Almost as impressive as Eris’ ability to remain unbothered by his efforts.
Nyx gave a subtle smirk and simultaneous eye roll. A show of “Oh I’m enjoying this very much but I empathize with you as well, cousin.” Rhys only gave Cassian a cautioning glare and likely a stern mental warning of “he’s still a High Lord and you will treat him as such.”
I forgot I still had a bone to pick with him over whatever secrets he and Eris had been keeping.
In fact….. since they were all here why not make this more uncomfortable for everyone - not JUST me.
Cassian, Rhys, and Nyx poured themselves glasses of whiskey before finding chairs at the table. Because why not mix in alcohol to this shit show? It’s not uncomfortable enough as it is.
“So,” I mused. “Uncle Rhys, when did you approve Eris for a temporary visa to rent an apartment in Velaris?”
Eris, ever the master of chaos, paled for the briefest of moments before a look crossed his features that he usually reserved for calling me “good girl” in his bed.
At that comment my father turned his icy gaze toward Rhys and even Cassian gaped.
And Rhys, the smooth prick, only replied “High Lord business, we have much to discuss regarding commerce in the coming months. Given his status it made more sense for him to have a private, warded apartment than to stay in a hotel with so many prying eyes.”
Though I thought the same, it was my father who muttered “Bullshit.” Shadows whirring in rage at Rhys openly allowing Eris to stay in the city as he pleases.
A part of me wanted to jump in and defend Eris but another part of me was still pissed to not have a direct answer.
Sensing the argument about to unfold between the brothers, my mother ushered Azalea, Eris, and I to the garden for tea. Nyx politely declined the offer in lieu of watching the drama between his father and Uncles play out.
—————
Seated in the garden, Azalea was jittery, practically begging to go inside and listen to the conversation with father and Rhys. Truthfully, I couldn’t blame her, and would have sent my shadows in but someone had thrown up a ward.
The tension between Eris and I, well, the tension from me to Eris was thick. I was still so angry with him for his secretive ways but… also so drawn to him. I craved him.
Fuck - this man and his stupid, beautiful face.
“Aw, are you thinking about me again? Glad you recognize which of us is the best looking Archeron.”
“Get out of my head, Nyx. You’re as nosey as Azalea.”
“Fine. I won’t give you updates on what’s happening in here.”
“Fuck off. Anyone have a broken bone or a black eye yet?”
“Nothing too exciting going on. Sadly. Mostly your father brooding in that rageful way of his over my father ‘encouraging’ your relationship.”
“He’s really struggling with accepting whatever it is between us.”
“Yeah, and Amren is a hoarder. Since we’re apparently stating the obvious here.”
“And you’re a pompous asshole.”
“You wound me, cousin.”
“Update me if anything interesting comes up.”
“Only if you say it.”
“I’m not saying it.”
“Fine. No gossip for you.”
“Are you really going to make me say it?”
Silence. Pure silence filled our mental connection for several moments.
“Fine.”
“Nyx is the most handsome Archeron.”
“I’m flattered. Talk to you later.”
I flipped him off mentally which earned a chuckle as his voice faded away.
He really was his father’s son. Insufferable in the most endearing of ways.
Seemingly having zoned out for too long, Azalea waived her little hands in my face “Earth to sissy!! Are you talking to Nyx? What’s happening?”
“LADIES.” Mother reprimanded. “Leave them be.”
A warmth heated my shoulder that I hadn’t previously noticed. When had Eris put his arm around me? So casually, so comfortably.
So…. Right.
And because she couldn’t leave him in peace, Azalea interrupted the quiet contentment, “Eris! I have a Sprite garden. Want to see it?”
Eris gave a gentle nod to Azalea. “I would love to.”
Mother only gave me an affectionate smile as I stood to follow them.
“This is Night Blooming Jasmine! The flowers are only out at night and this is a bench in case a Sprite comes to visit but I also put a bed back here” She motioned deep within the planted jasmine “in case one comes and needs a nap!”
Eris didn’t miss a beat as he crouched down to look at the little oasis she’s created in her garden.
“Do they ever come visit?” he asked inquisitively.
Softly, sadly, Azalea shook her head as she looked to the ground. “No.. but maybe someday. Maybe they’re nervous because we’re so big and they’re so tiny. I never see footprints but I will keep making it cozy for them so maybe they’ll feel safe. I would be their friend. We could be best friends.”
Eris listened attentively, never drifting his focus from her and her garden. And then my armored heart melted ever so softly as he warmly replied, “They’d be lucky to have you as a friend, Azalea.”
Her eyes lit up. “You really think so?”
“I know so.”
“You can be my friend too if you want.” She said, looking to him eagerly.
Eris was taken back for a moment. And the look in his face gutted me. As if- as if he couldn’t fathom that someone so gentle, so unbroken by the world could look at him and see anything other than the cold, calculated product of Beron Vanserra.
Azalea stared at him expectantly, her face beginning to falter until he smiled. A broad, genuine smile that I’d seen so few times. “I’d like that very much.”
And with that she grabbed his hand and led him through the rest of the garden.
——————
Eventually my mother retrieved a reluctant-to leave-Eris’-side Azalea, as father had sent Cassian, Rhys, and Nyx home. He was likely fuming that his little plan to make things more uncomfortable than necessary backfired and she didn’t feel like dealing with explaining to him why Azalea was gleefully dragging Eris by the hand through the garden.
I made a mental note to myself to take my little sister out for pastries soon as a “thank you” for serving as a buffer throughout the afternoon. I didn’t realize just how much discomfort she’d spared me from until she had gone inside and I was left alone in the garden with Eris.
Perhaps softened by his kindness with my vivacious sister and the painful look on his face at her kindness in return, I brushed my hand against the back of his.
His face remained stoic but I could have sworn a small lump formed in his throat.
We wandered a few more steps through the garden. He said nothing but, to my surprise, brought the back of his hand back to mine and hooked his pinky with mine.
And gods damn if that didn’t give me butterflies.
“So,” he started, almost coyly. I couldn’t be hearing this correctly. “About that exhibit at Feyre’s gallery?”
“Yes?” I asked.
“Could I-“ he took both of my hands in his, avoiding eye contact at first but finally meeting my gaze. “Would you- like for me to escort you? We could get dinner beforehand.”
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. A nervous Eris Vanserra. Of all people, he was nervous in front of the female he’d been fucking for two years.
And yet, something sparked within me at the thought.
Feigning shock, I asked: “High Lord, are you asking me on a date?”
The corners of his lips lifted slightly. “Don’t be an ass.”
“Think you can manage not to strike anymore mysterious, shady bargains between now and then?”
“I believe I can manage.” He quipped. That casual irreverence in his tone returning.
“Then yes, Eris, I will. Now you should probably get home before my father comes out and decides to make his brooding everybody’s problem.”
With that he wrapped an arm around my waist as a hand gripped the back of my head, pulling in me tightly. His lips crashed into mine, kissing me passionately. I gasped into it as heat pooled within me, reverent need burning through my veins, urging him to deepen the kiss further.
And as suddenly as he initiated the kiss, he pulled back with a smirk. “See you soon, little Shadowsinger.” and winnowed away.

uninhibited (and drunk) voicemails from seventeen
forever sending gratitude and love to j @un-love for helping assign these
seungcheol: “i watched you tonight with another man. he held your hand and kissed your forehead. he drank your tea first to check the temperature. he made you laugh. for real. i know because you covered your mouth, still feeling insecure about how far it opens when the reaction can’t be avoided—when the something said was so funny it surprised you. you’re wearing red. your arms were exposed for a while, and i felt my eyes prick with tears at the sight of more tattoos on your skin. ones i didn’t know about. maybe ones you mentioned when they were still just possibilities in your head. not once did i think i wouldn’t see them actualized. not once did i imagine another man’s fingers brushing the ink through the motion of draping his jacket around your shoulders.”
jeonghan: “i’m at home and alone, and it’s wrong to call you. it’s so unfair to call you. i didn’t know how to tell you that the wanting is scary. that the way we love each other is impossible—not for a second do i believe it’s possible to have again, and i’m fucking afraid, probably because i know how much you’ve grown. the thought of letting you down leaves a sour taste, and i’m trying not to be so fucking afraid.”
joshua: “i’m sobering up now, sitting on my mom’s back porch. earlier, i was trying to describe the color of your hair. the best i could come up with was blue frosting like the cupcakes she made for my 10th birthday party. isn’t that outrageous? embarrassing? in my head was a poem, but the alcohol released the silliest set of words i could’ve possibly used to describe a part of you.”
jun: “everything is weird. everyone is strange to me today except for you. i’m drunk. i lost my shoes at some point in the night i think. i can’t recognize anyone around me. their voices don’t sound familiar. i wish you were here. i wish you’d tell me this is miserable for you too; it’s not worth it anymore. would you tell me the truth if i asked? sorry. what a stupid question. i don’t know anyone more honest.”
soonyoung: “i should’ve watched you all day more often. i dream about that. i wanted to, but something always had my attention or interrupted its focus on you. i’m laying here with my eyes closed, imagining all the moments i did watch and wondering if every single one pieced together could consume an entire day.”
wonwoo: “is it ok that i still have your spare key? i’d like to believe it’s something you’d ask to get back, but i wonder if that call isn’t worth making. if the idea of seeing me makes you anxious. but you trust me. out of everyone to still have access to your home, it’s ok that it’s me. i feel sad thinking about it.”
jihoon: “you baked cookies. i froze half of them. there’s one left, and i’m debating whether or not to eat it today. it’s freezing outside, and any view through my window is ruined by the snow. it feels like the perfect night for a cookie with what’s left of my second americano like i can risk losing sleep, but what will be left from you if i give in? everything else feels lifeless—it’s been so long since you’ve touch the clothes and read the books.”
seokmin: “i’m going to a wedding tomorrow. your old neighbor is getting married, and i thought about so many things when he sent me the invitation. i thought he was in love with you for the longest time. remember that? it took me months to admit. then he told me he’s just protective, and i realized there are so many people who see us and care without us ever knowing. so i wondered about a what if between us… what if our paths crossing was shallow and they never intertwined? what if you were just a woman in the grocery store who i’d see once in a while if the timing was right? how long would i think about you before forgetting your face, before forgetting i ever saw you? unless i never would and end up talking about you in my old age to adult children who only know i loved their mother.”
mingyu: “is it ok to call you in the middle of the night? you told me i could. years have passed since that conversation. *laughs* is it strange to think about us back then? how we started on a park bench, basically dated for two years on a park bench. i still think about how your approach to reach me gave away your feelings. you started poised, avoiding eye contact. then it became goofy looks and confident strides before calling my name and skipping to singing the song stuck in your head while you ran to me. i can’t help but wonder what would it look like now?”
minghao: “if you listen to this voicemail, can you tell me what you want? whatever comes to mind after hearing the question. from something small to something weird and the the thing you believe is better left unsaid as if i’d judge the answer, but i won’t. i have no reason to judge you. all i have is curiosity and love and hope for your every day, every want, every touch, every song you sing, every picture you hang, and every night spent barefoot on the balcony- i want to marry you.”
seungkwan: “there’s something on my mind. i’ve wanted to tell you all day. i thought about it at breakfast and started texting you before my manager called and interrupted. so here it is: i used to not understand how tired you’d be with me around. i thought i was boring you for the longest time until i visited my sisters. they exchanged a knowing smile before telling me you’re completely comfortable, that you feel safe enough to slip into the kind of vulnerability that only sleepiness and sleep allow, with your guard lowered, and your heart open. i appreciate how much of you i’ve seen, how deeply i know you—knew you… know you? hmm…”
hansol: “are you traveling? i hope you’re traveling. i know it’s something you promised to do at the start of your 26th year. where did you go? … are you taking lots of pictures? … how does the moon look? that’s your souvenir: the moon in the sky a thousand miles away from home. when you told me the moon thing, i realized i knew nothing about you, and i wanted to know everything.”
chan: “you were in the audience tonight? i didn’t… i wasn’t… thank you for coming. i mailed a ticket, but it was returned to sender. *clears throat* you’re the only person i couldn’t shake wanting to be there. do you know what i mean? people from our pasts we wish could still be present, especially for things they witnessed in early stages. i could shake off all the other absences… old friends, a mentor, but you… *sigh* no way.”

What about the kids (CBBH) seeing the ‘mudblood’ scar on Vix arm for the first time, and then the kids, specially Draco, trying to comfort her.
James and Sirius feeling guilty again because (James) “abandoned” her (no he didn’t) and (Sirius) cause he couldn’t protect her
Thank you so much, feel free to ignore it if you want to, but thank you anyway
Take care and don’t forget to drink water❤️
Ps: I love everything you write, thank you so much for providing us those precious chapters
*Takes a big ol' sip of water* *Cracks knuckles* *types furiously*
I LOVE these kinds of requests...I love diving deeper into the relationships and the histories further than what CBBH covered, so thank you for giving me the opportunity to write this! 🫶
CBBH Sirius Black x Vix!reader CW: hurt/comfort, discussions of war, PTSD, trauma, guilt, reference to death of a loved one, children, spoiler alerts if you haven't finished CBBH
The Mind Forgets but the Heart Doesn't
It had been a really trying week.
Percy and the Twins had gotten into it during class one day this week at Potter Manor, and though James and Molly did what they could to placate the situation when it happened, it seemed to bleed out into the other kids as well.
Harry and Draco didn’t seem to be able to agree on anything at all anymore, Jasmine felt the need to play mediator to their squabbles which just aggravated everyone further, and Aurora was far too sensitive for her own good and took everything anyone said personally.
The adults didn’t seem to be fairing much better either.
You and Lily were expecting at the same time. It was very funny when Lily & James went to announce that they were expecting only to have Y/N & Sirius laugh and say ‘same’. Remus never stopped joking that the family would finally have a ‘set of twins’.
Lily stopped taking the jokes so well as her pregnancy progressed, however.
“This is absolutely, without a doubt, the last one Potter!” She screeched as she excused herself from the dinner table for the sixth time to pee.
You were such a trooper, but Sirius knew that this pregnancy was taking far more out of you both emotionally and physically than your last one had.
The part that hurt (everyone) the most, was that your brain still associated pain and discomfort with your trauma from the war, and the wounds felt far more fresh lately than they had in a long time.
This left both James and Sirius feeling horribly guilty – James for having left you on the battlefield, and Sirius both for being the cause of your current discomfort and for the months during the war that he spent wallowing when he should have been fighting for you.
Sirius would wake up in the middle of the night and reach for you to find the bed empty. He’d go to check both Aurora and Draco’s room’s first before moving on to the rest of the house.
One particularly upsetting night he found you hiding in the shower after you had a distressing and disturbingly realistic nightmare.
But usually, he found you in the kitchens.
“What are you doing up, my love?” He spoke quietly into the room.
You must have heard him coming because you never even turned your head from where you were sitting; you just offered him a quiet hum in response as he wrapped his arms around your shoulders and nuzzled his face into your neck.
His hands would migrate lower to what was usually the reason for your midnight wanders.
“Little one hungry?”
You were quiet for a moment, clearly far away from Potter Manor, before you responded.
“There were times I was only ever able to eat at night... when someone could sneak something to me or I could sneak to the kitchens. But sometimes, now, I wake up a little hungry – and my heart tells me that this is going to be my only chance, and I have to make it count. I tell myself it’s not true but... the anxiety doesn’t go away until I do something about it.”
Sure enough, in front of you on the table was a half-eaten granola bar; evidence of your late-night forage for food.
“What was it that Lily said about those muggle dementia patients?” Sirius asked you as he rubbed up and down your arms.
“The mind forgets but the heart doesn’t.” You responded quietly.
Sirius hummed into your hair as he pressed his lips to the top of your head.
“You’ve done so much work, love. But I don’t think you’ll ever be able to convince your heart to let it go – not fully.”
You sighed miserably, suddenly sounding very close to tears.
“Please be patient with yourself.” He pleaded.
“I’m trying.” You whispered wetly.
“I know, baby. I know.”
Tumblr media
This was why the following morning at the breakfast table when Harry – seemingly out of nowhere – asked what a “mudblood” was, the room fell painfully silent.
The adults all seemed to share horrified glances before Regulus spoke up.
“Where did you hear that word, Harry?”
Harry, slightly ashamed now that he seemed to have sucked the air out of the room, looked at you and motioned towards your arm.
Sure enough, as you had reached across the table to pass Remus the plate of bacon, your sleeve had ridden up and your scar was on full display.
Why’d we teach these ankle biters to read? Sirius wondered to himself.
To Sirius’ absolute horror, you seemed to completely shut down. You hastily pulled your sleeve down and moved your arms into your lap, and your eyes turned foggy.
“Please don’t occlude baby, stay with us.” Sirius begged quietly as he began to rub your arm.
“Haz, when you and Draco were very little, there was a war – do you remember me and daddy telling you about it?” Lily started cautiously.
“Uh huh, when the bad guy hated people who were different and stole Auntie Vix?”
James grimaced before confirming. “Yes, and how Uncle Reggie and Draco’s mummy Narcissa helped her escape and then defeat the bad guy.”
“Well, the bad guy and his friends did hate people who were different than them. Mostly, they hated non-magical people,” Lily continued.
“Called muggles.” Harry interjected proudly.
“Right, he hated muggles. And he hated muggle-born witches and wizards as well.” James finished.
“But...mummy and Aunt Lily are muggle-born...” Draco added quietly from his place.
James nodded. “That’s right. And because they hated them, they made up a bad word to call muggle-born’s.”
“That’s what mudblood is, Harry. It’s a bad word to call a muggle-born witch or wizard.” Regulus spoke softly.
Jasmine gasped. “Mum! Did Harry say a bad word!?”
“I was only asking a question!” Harry screeched in his own defence.
“But... why is the bad word on your arm?” Draco asked quietly, looking at you.
Your son addressing you directly seemed to pull you out of yourself a little as you offered him a sad smile. “Well, when the bad guy stole me, I wouldn’t tell him what they wanted to know.”
“What did the bad guy want to know?” Jasmine asked curiously.
Harry elbowed his sister for interrupting, which earned him a whack on the head in return, which caused Remus to switch seats with his niece in an effort to keep the peace.
“They wanted to know where your mummy and daddy and Harry were. They also wanted to know where Pads and Moony and everyone else in the Order were.”
“Like the Weasley’s!?” Harry asked in horror, as news of your best friend potentially being on some maniac’s hitlist would do to an almost nine-year-old, even though said maniac was already after him and his entire family.
“But you wouldn’t tell them.” Jasmine stated solemnly.
You nodded at your niece. “That’s right.”
“But why was my mum and Uncle Reggie there?” Draco asked.
You and Sirius both grimaced as you looked to Regulus, whose jaw seemed more tense than usual.
“Our family comes from a long line of very bad people, Draco. The Black’s...mine and your dad’s family, as well as your mums, were not kind to people who were different from them. They supported the bad guy during the war, I-”
“But dad didn’t support the bad guy...and he’s a Black.” Draco interrupted as he turned to look at his father pleadingly.
Sirius smiled softly at the boy. “Yes, but you see, Draco, I had friends like Uncle Prongs and Uncle Moony, and your mum here, who taught me that it was okay to be different. And Uncle Prongs’ family also gave me a place to go when I no longer agreed or felt safe with my family. Uncle Reggie didn’t have the same kind of friends.”
“Your friends were bad guys?” Harry asked plainly.
“Yes.” Regulus answered just as plainly.
“So...my family was...bad?” Draco asked quietly, looking between you, Sirius, and Regulus.
“Not all of them baby, not Uncle Reggie, and not your mum.” You tried to placate, but Draco didn’t bite.
“But they were there! Supporting the bad guy! That makes them bad!” He insisted.
“No, it made us cowards.” Regulus corrected the boy. “I was too afraid to ask your dad or his friends for help, even though I knew that Sirius would take me in if I asked him to. And your mum did what was expected of her, Draco. Your mum believed marrying your dad and having you was the right thing to do.”
“Draco,” you said quietly as the boy tried to fight back tears. “If your mum and Uncle Reggie hadn’t been there, I would not be alive today. And quite frankly, I think that could be the same for a lot of us in this room. They saved us, baby. Your mummy saved you. There’s nothing bad about that.”
Draco still seemed perturbed by this but looked back down to your now hidden scar.
“But someone...hurt you? With that word? Was it my family?”
You shared a look with Sirius who offered you a small nod before you answered. “It was. It was your aunt...your mum’s sister.”
Draco seemed distraught at the news; his mouth turned down miserably and his eyes filled with tears. “My family was bad.”
“Dad, was my family bad!?” Harry asked severely.
“Haz, hang on, okay bubs?” James asked quietly.
“That’s right Draco, your family was bad.” You said.
Every head – child and adult alike – whipped to face you.
“They were bad people...but they’re not anymore. Your family is the people in this room, and your mum who died protecting you. You have Uncle Reggie, who was so brave to save me and to turn against the bad guy he was supposed to be loyal to. You have Uncle Moony, who despite doing very hard things every month, doesn’t ask anything of anyone and gives so much of himself to the people he loves. And you have Uncle Prongs and Aunt Lily, who helped us raise you when daddy and I had no idea what we were doing. And you have Haz, and Jazzy, and Rory and two new siblings coming soon. That’s your family, Draco, and they’re not bad at all.”
Draco scanned the room of all the people he loved the most as a few tears fell, and Sirius was quick to catch them with his finger from his place beside him.
“I’m sorry the bad guys hurt you, mummy. I wish they hadn’t.” He offered finally.
“Oh! I know!” Aurora piped up out of nowhere (Sirius actually sort of forgot his own daughter was present at the breakfast table) and quickly stood from her seat to hurry away.
Before the adults had time to ponder where the child had gone, she reappeared beside her mum with the first aid kit from one of the loos and her toy Mediwitch Kit.
“Okay, mummy. Show Healer Ro where it hurts.” She demanded you in her most authoritative tone, which still sounded far too much like Alvin the Chipmunk to be taken at all seriously.
Sirius grinned down at his girl and pulled her up into his lap (for better access, of course) as you pulled your sleeve up on your arm to expose your scar.
Aurora tapped a fake wand to the injury and held a stethoscope to her ear. “It sounds good mummy; means you’ll be fine.”
“Oh, good.” You sighed in faux relief, failing to bite back the proud smile adorning your face.
“Yup, now just needs plasters. I have some golden snitches, unicorns, or bowtruckles, mummy. Which would you like?”
“I think she ought to have some of each, Ro.” Harry interjected from across the room.
“Quite right, Haz. Healer Ro, could you use some assistance with the plasters?” Sirius asked like a spokesman on a game show.
“Yes sir!” She answered, and each kid took turns applying plasters to your scar and kissing it better.
“Looks better already!” Jasmine cheered after their work was complete.
“Hmmmm...I don’t know...” Sirius said skeptically. “Could use a few more kisses I think.” Before he attacked you with kisses, and the kids followed in suit shortly after.

NOT ANOTHER RAINBOW LEGACY CHALLENGE
Welcome to this ten generation legacy challenge based on vibrant colors! Inspired by all the other color themed legacies out there, because who doesn’t like basing their sims whole personality on a color (I know I’m a sucker for it lol). I won’t put a long list of rules here, because at the end of the day I want this to be your gameplay and story that you create. I will suggest that you follow each generation, but if something isn’t to your liking, by all means, change it for yourself. With that being said, don’t claim this challenge as your own, even if you tweak it. Remember, though, legacy challenges are all about having fun!
If you play don't forget to tag me here or on instagram @clumsy.romantic or use the hashtag #notanotherlegacy. I would really love to see some gameplay/stories!

That doesn’t matter, though, because as soon as you can, you move out of your parents home so that you can start your own life and family. Love isn’t easy, as you don’t truly know what it’s supposed to look like, but with how kind and caring you are, it almost comes easy to you.

Growing up on a beautiful beach with your single parent doing everything for you made you into a spoiled brat. The only thing you actually want to do, besides sleep and chill, is fashion photography. You have a real eye for fashion. Although, you don’t really have a knack for picking up work. You’re more likely to be suntanning than actually doing your job.
