I like how he you know, how he deals with these situations. He's he's gradually becoming more aggressive and showing up, yet he's still remaining cool. He's not overreacting when he's asked to leave, like, can you get out of here? Because that's insulting, that doesn't feel good. Dean's coming over. You have to get out of here, and he's like, really, uh,..and then he toys with her a little...Because he didn't want to expose his feelings, he wanted to be the cool guy....if he came over and said, listen, you know if he can't, because that's what Dean would do...So Dean represents I think he represents you know, he's a big city kid coming into stars Hollow, but he's completely transformed into Stars Hollow. He doesn't represent anything mysterious anymore, or anything that Rory, you know, has her her sights set on but Jess does. He's interesting, he's mysterious, he's well read, all of these things. This is how the LFC squad would react to you explaining what osmosis is (you can also think of whatever your specific area/beloved topic is)

Trent: He would nod along for the whole time, focused and very serious, then make the most generic, NPC statement like. "I have always been a big admirer of osmosis." When you would go ??? he would then actually give up, have a laugh at himself, then ask for an easier explanation, because he's also generally interested in whatever you have to say.

Virg: He would hear you out, pat you on the shoulder and say, "that's great! 👍🏼 😃". Then leave.

Cody: Very thoughtful listener. Would actually get a pen and paper and start making notes, meanwhile complementing your intelligence.

Darwin: "???😁"

Macca: Laughs awkwardly. Gets red in the face when he would mispronounce osmosis and you correct him.

Mo: He would definitely know what osmosis and would be happy to engage about it.

Domi: "Osmo-what?"Starts laughing, because "it's a funny sounding word."

Ali: He knows what osmosis is and will let you know that. Tries to correct you on one thing, looks it up on google, then apologies for doubting you.

Jota: Knows what osmosis is, just doesn't really give a fuck.

Harvey: Doesn't know what osmosis is, and also doesn't really care.

Curtis: Also starts laughing at the 'osmosis', but then quickly apologizes to not hurt your feelings. Willing to listen to you talking about it, despite having absolutely no clue what is even going on, because he feels bad for laughing.

Joe: Has a oOH! moment when you mention osmosis and he can vaguely recall it from his studies.

Endo: Asks polite questions about osmosis.

Klopp: Invented osmosis.

In lieu of Stuff Your Kindle day, can we talk about the issue of how the m/m genre of books, romance or not, is almost entirely dominated by women? Can we talk about how the most recognisable gay couples in media are written by women? Can we talk about how queer men can't even write about ourselves, how we are only allowed to exist when it's from the point of view of a straight woman sexualising us?

Can we talk about that? Or am I going to get called misogynistic for pointing out the disparity between who gets the writing deals, & who gets their books turned into movies, & whose shit gets popular versus whose doesn't? Can we talk about how m/m fiction is only allowed when it appeals to a cishet gaze, or is that too much for tumblr to take?

Can we also talk about how trans queer men are even more hated by publishing? Can we talk about how we get shit from both sides? Can we talk about how books about the experiences of being a queer man, written by queer men, never get the same recognition as books written by women on this subject (barring academia which has its own problems)?

Can we talk about that? Can we?

If you're not reading Boyfriend Material by Alexis Hall, you should be. I'm a 100 pages in and in absolute splits. Top-tier British queer comedy. 💀💀

(I'm also convinced the character the protag is trying to hook up with is autistic as hell.)

“No. God no. My mother’s French.”

“Ah. Lucien, then.” He said it perfectly, too, with the half-swallowed softness of the final syllable, smiling at me—the first full smile I’d seen from him, and shocking in its sweetness. “Vraiment? Vous parlez français?”

There’s really no excuse for what happened next. I think maybe I just wanted him to keep smiling at me. Because for some reason I said, “Oui oui. Un peu.”

And then, to my horror, he rattled off God knew what.

Leaving me to scrape the bottom of the barrel of my GCSE French, for which I’d received a D. “Um…um… Je voudrais aller au cinema avec mes amis? Ou est la salle de bain?”

Utterly perplexed, he pointed. So I was obliged to go the bathroom.

When I slunk back, he immediately confronted me with “You don’t speak French at all, do you?”

“No.” I hung my head. “I mean, my mother used both when I was growing up, but I still turned out stubbornly monolingual.”

“Then why didn’t you just say that?”

“I…don’t know. I guess I assumed you didn’t speak French either?”

“Why on earth would I imply I could speak French, when I couldn’t?”

I stuffed a teetering forkful of pie into my mouth. “You’re right. That would be a deranged thing to do.”
