- ... Hello?
Hallo Herr Forehead.
- Stop calling me that.
We're not in court. Unless you are? No you can't be, you wouldn't answer the phone if you were.
- Still, it'd be nice if you didn't call me that.
Ach, warum, magst du das nicht, don't you like it?
- Not in the slightest.
But it's a, uhhh, nickname.
- I know it is but I don't like it at all. Everybody makes fun of my hair and face already, at least try to find a more... Original... One, what's that noise?
Was?
- There's a weird sound, what are you doing?
Ah, yes, yes, that's - I'm cutting my hair, that's why I called you.
- You're calling from the hairdresser?
My bathroom.
- ... 'scuse me.
I'm calling from my bathroom.
- ... Are you just chopping off your-
Yes, that's why I called you.
- WHY are you calling me at... Four in the morning for you about giving yourself a haircut, I can't really just drive there to help?
Ich weiß, aber I need your opinion.
- Klavier I cannot fucking see you.
I know.
- ... ... ... Fine. Fine, whatever, I've got five cases of the same minor felony to work through anyways. So what are you doing.
Cutting.
- Cutting how?
Short.
- You look fine with long hair though.
Ja, well, my brother did also and I looked exactly like him and I'm not feeling that alright right now, so you know.
- I... Yeah that's. That's a good point. But do you have medication you need to take?
Yes but I missed that and if I take it now it will fuck up all the other times I need to take it, that's why I'm cutting my hair.
- God, ok, uh... How... How do I help, what's my role in this.
Tell me how to cut it.
- ... I can't fucking see you.
That way if it looks like shit I can say it's your fault and not mine.
- Wow. Real foolproof plan.
Danke.
- Alright, uh... What have you done so far?
Cut off my braid.
- Like at the root?
Nein, just uh, shoulder length. More or less. Gott I look like a fucking. I'm just missing the uh, the... Big sideburns.
- Mutton chops?
I think so. Put a pair on me and I'll look like some tryhard psychedelic rocker from 1978 to 1982.
- I am honestly trying very hard to visualize that and I can confidently say I have no idea how that would look like.
Maybe you have aphantasia.
- What?
Nevermind. I just mean that I look disgusting.
- Even with your face?
This is really not the best moment to remind me of my face I think.
- Sorry.
Keine Sorgen. So! What do I do now?
- Oh, uh... Don't touch the uh, bangs. Fringe? Bangs?
Not to worry, my forehead is gonna remain nice and covered. I'd hate to steal your gimmick.
- Fuck off.
Fine, I'll find a different nickname. Maybe something about your arm necklace, like how does Herr Bling sound?
- First, that's maybe worse. Second, my arm what?
Arm necklace. The uh... Arm. Band. Bracelet.
- Arm necklace.
Shush. So bangs are gonna stay. What goes.
- Eh, hm... Do you have like... An electric razor or something?
You propose an undercut?
- Yeah. On the sides maybe. Or the back if that's, if you have mirrors to help.
Oooh, thinking dangerously, I like that. I'm gonna do it on the back blind.
- You're gonna fuck it up.
In that case that'll be your fault, I already told you.
- Ok, whatever, do it your way.
I am.
- Good.
... ... I could call you Herr Papagei.
- Herr what?
Papagei. Herr Wright’s daughter, she calls you Polly no? That’s a parrot name, no? Herr Papagei.
- No.
Herr Papageno?
- That’s the same as the parrot one, you can’t fool me.
No no no, that’s a reference to the, uhm... Die Zauberflöte von Mozart, the Singspiel. Opera. Papageno is a character in it, and in opera you have to sing very loudly and you’re loud. Makes sense.
- Sounds too much like the parrot.
Well yes, he’s meant to be a sort of, of bird man.
-Yeah, I don’t wanna be that.
Ach, you’re difficult. Want me to call you Herr Sonnengott?
- ... I don’t think calling me by my first name in court is very formal.
Oooh, were did you learn German? Is it Fraulein Cykes?
- It’s not that hard to tell “Sonnengott” means “Sun god”. It’s basically the same words, just misspelled.
Hey, English is a misspelling of German.
- I guess...
Anyways! Herr Gerichtigkeit, dann?
- Oof, that’s a mouthful.
Herr Chords of Steel.
- I think that counts as advertisement.
Hmm, you’re right. Herr Vocalist.
- No.
Hm, what’s it about you... Herr Observant.
- Sounds weird.
You find one then.
- Herr Justice.
Ah, but that’s boring!
- It is my name.
That’s why it’s boring!
- Bleh.
... ... ...
- Wait, is your hair wet or dry?
Was? Uh, dry?
- Have you got like, a towel on your shoulders?
No?
- ... So you’re just. You’re just buzzing your hair like that, getting it all over yourself? Like on your back and shirt and all?
Yes? Should I be naked to cut my hair?
- Don’t make me think about that...
Hey, I’m pretty handsome.
- Yeah, and you’ve probably got ten thousand bits of hair stabbed inside your back like the spines of a porcupine. Take a shower once you’re done or you’ll be itchy for twelve days straight.
Will you join me?
- Get your mind out of the gutter, I’m technically still at work.
Gasp, and you’re telling me to get in the shower with you? How debauched...
- Klavier.
Ja, ich bin er.
- Stop that.
Fine, fine, but seriously, a shower at four in the morning?
- You’re the one who didn’t bother getting prepared! Now you’re getting a shower at four in the morning!
Ugh, as you say.
- ... How’s it going anyways? Your hair.
Give me a moment and I’ll answer.
- Ok.
... ... ... ...
- ... ... ... ...
... You know what. I think I like this.
- Really?
Really.
- I’m glad.
... Thank you, by the way. For answering the phone. And talking, and just... Indulging me and all. It’s... It’s nice, you know?
- It’s nothing, honestly. It’s nice talking to you.
Really?
- Really. ... Even if half of it is you trying to convince me into letting you call me horrendous name after horrendous name.
Ha ha, I suppose so. I’ve go a last one.
- Klavier.
It’s good, I promise.
- Fine. Hit me with it.
Herr Kollege.
- ... Herr Kollege.
Yes.
- Mister Colleague.
Or friend. It also means friend. Since we’re colleagues, and also friends. If you don’t take back what you said when you visited. But it sounds professional, no? Good enough for court?
- ... You know what, that’s clever. I’ll allow it.
Can I still call you Herr Forehead outside of court?
- Do you have to?
It’s a proper nickname. Not a business one.
- So you will still use it no matter what I say.
I’m just saying it would be hard to grow out of saying it.
- Fine. No choice anyways.
So I can keep it?
- Yes. Now get in the shower and wash that hair away before you get all itchy.
Sir yes sir. You go back to work.
- Will do.
‘Tis goodbye then?
- Goodnight. And don’t- don’t worry about, uh, calling me. If you want. I’m usually here to answer.
I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you for talking, Apollo.
- Don’t mention it. Goodnight.
Goodbye.
(Klavier looked again in the mirror. He would have probably regretted this once he was a little more well rested and could properly see all the errors he had made, but with a hand running across the back of his buzzed hair to feel it scratch and sting his digits, to feel how much shorter the blond strands he had cut were compared to how they’d been, and replaying Apollo’s voice in his mind, he thought he really liked the way he looked.)

Headcanons of what's like to date (Ace Attorney) Phoenix Wright, Klavier Gavin, Asogi Kazuma, and Herlock Sholmes please?
What It's Like To Date Them
Fandom: Ace Attorney
Character(s): Phoenix Wright, Klavier Gavin, Asogi Kazuma, and Herlock Sholmes
Type of Request: Headcanons
Note(s): The amount of patience S/O will need when it comes to these men istg
Tumblr media
Asogi
He almost always has a knowing smile on his face. Like he knows something you don't. It really doesn't help if you have anxiety or if you actually are hiding something from him because he just looks like he knows. And if you ask him about it, you just get a cheeky smile and a, "Whatever do you mean?"
Will drop everything to help you with whatever you need. Even if he thinks it's a bit silly, he won't say anything, just offers his help. Of course, if you say you can do it then he won't push.
He keeps to himself mostly, not really sharing his thoughts on things. But he does check up on you quite often, wanting to make sure you're alright. It's like he's noticing things that he doesn't want to say and instead giving you the opportunity to speak up.
Herlock
Be prepared to constantly be interrupted with whatever you're doing because he needs attention. He really is like an overexcited puppy because look at what he just made! Look at this new case he got and how quickly he solved it!
Lots of sleeping alone at nights. Not because he doesn't want to lay next to you and cuddle, but because the man does NOT sleep. He's always pushing himself and working on something. Don't worry, he has strict "Okay if I take 10 minute to rest now then it gives me an extra 20 minutes for his thing--" That is if he even follows through with the resting.
There are times when you come home and he's in his depressed state. He's moping about something failing and you coming home does make him a bit better, but he really needs someone to listen to him and talk to. Even if you don't quite give him a solution, you can definitely give him ideas that help pull him out of it and suddenly he's back to being a happy puppy.
Klavier
Music is constantly playing. Usually the same genre, but now and then he switches it up for inspiration or because you ask nicely. The volume of the music also changes if he's trying to work or if you think it's too loud/soft. But music is always playing.
Likewise, get used to hearing him practicing guitar. Sometimes he's just strumming a tune that got stuck in his head, sometimes he sees you and gives a teasing smile before going into some improv for a super cheesy love song, and sometimes he is tearing his hair out because he cannot figure out how to write a certain song and it's just angry grumbling.
Despite the fact that Klavier tries to seem rather easy-going, there are moments that only you get to see where he needs you to hold him and just be there for him. Between his brother, his band, and the fact that his mentor was killed, well he needs a shoulder to lean on when the thoughts get to be too much.
Phoenix
You can expect quite a few twisted jokes from him. He'll be reading the morning paper and give a hum about someone falling to their death before he retorts, "I would've survived that fall."
Speaking of that, you become a regular at the hospital. They learn your name, give you cheery smiles, and then point you in the direction of Phoenix's room because he is so bad at avoiding being hurt. He promises you that isn't trying to be a mummy with all his bandages, but it's just his luck.
Phoenix really wishes he can have his phone on silent, but with his job that's not possible. So when you two are out on a nice date or relaxing at home, there are many times when it's interrupted by someone needing an attorney. But most of the time the interruptions are from Maya or Athena or one of the people that has pretty much become family. He does his best to be nice with telling them he's busy, but more often than not you get pulled along to whatever shenanigans they've gotten themselves into.

okay you know what. this has delayed me by an entire two days in writing the apolluke fic (should really come up with an acronym or something) so I have to outsource the question
riddle me this! I don’t know what detective to have on the case.
my first thought was ema! but, the fic’s in 2028 and I know that we’re retconning SoJ’s 2028 events but she’s 100% gotten her promotion to a forensic scientist by this point and I refuse to believe she hasnt. she DESERVES.
and I adore ema as a character but honest to god despite finishing my Apollo Justice playthrough recently could NOT get a grasp on her personality?? she’s just kinda very moody and as funny as it is, that isn’t very present on SoJ from what I’ve seen (don’t own a copy and still watching the game) but she is more likely, I just have no will to write her yet nor the confidence.
the thing is?? I don’t really have other options. because we’re post DD so no Fulbright and as much as I am the biggest Gumshoe fan to walk the earth iii think he isn’t gonna work here. I could always do an OC and that is my second option if I can’t figure out how the hell I’m gonna write Ema but I do have the OCs for this case worked out and there’s no space for the detective to be really case relative. a new detective would be so fun to write though and honest to god I already have plenty ocs that can do that legwork
sorry to yell here about this!! this was. um. super long and also ema Skye appreciation I adore her but I dont know if I can’t write her she’s delayed me by days already and I hope to have this up by Monday (my time) . On the other hand if I do plan to make more casefics/side fics for the Apolluke Penpal Cinematic Universe, a dedicated detective could be fun but would require introducing to the audience
Ooohh yeah I hear ya there. Figuring out a solid Detective for a case is a bit tricky, especially when it comes to Ema. She seems like a normal, easy character on the outset (how hard can it really be to write a jaded once bright-eyed lover of all things forensic sciences?? She's a nerd to boot, should be easy!), but lots of difficulties once you get into the weeds. (She's jaded, but in a similar way to Hobohodou. She hates Klavier Gavin with a passion. She's excited for her job but she's stuck with all these damn fussy boys!) (SoJ is pretty excellent for her character, love to see her though my poor dear goes through some of it ;w; ;;; ) I, too, love her, though, so no worries, I love hearing the take on her!! =w=
A new detective would be cool to see, tbh!! I'm all for Ace Attorney OCs (I have my own and all lol) (Prosecutor, his Mortician siblings, and their twin Detective buds) (duality is a theme I lean into a lot hahaha), so if it works better like that, then go for it! Could also like, make Kay the Detective if you prefer a familiar face, I know popular fanon is that she's Detective by the AJ era.
A wild chaotic third option, force Luke to fill the Detective role lmao-- (/I am removed for being too chaotic)

✩.* TRIGGER WARNINGS ─ SUGGESTIVE THEMES [MADE BY A MINOR!], Unhealthy Coping Mechanism, Abusement of Power, and Unhealthy Thinking
Tumblr media
[♡]ー ꒱・!demon prosecutor himself with a strong sense of justice - MILES EDGWORTH.
Miles kisses are forward yet slow. Miles wants to be the one leading about almost everything, like in court or in investigations yet when it comes to leading for your love he’s an absolutely flustered man. Yet he can’t resist you the many years devoid of love from Miles made him yearn something but that story if for another time. His kisses are deep but quick so nobody would notice but in his private chambers such indulges will be much more longer, lingering touch on your face as his lips complete yours his hands hold you tightly not wanting to let you go. Such a beautiful love story but only if anyone can see the cold chains he has on you.
[♡]ー ꒱・!the prosecutor prodigy herself with her signature whip - FRANZISKA VON KARMA.
For a prodigy lady herself Franziska too like her brother doesn’t know how to initiate such contact and the turmoil she has with herself will reflect when it comes to you. Franziska’s kisses are quick and rough like her whip. Her feelings towards you cause some sort of concoction inside of herself, she’s angry at herself for falling in-love when she want to reach her highest, angry at herself because she knows that this isn’t what love is. So please don’t be alarmed when you suddenly got grabbed by your collar by Franziska for a kiss, shes not angry at you, she angry at herself after she wrongly prosecuted someone who did you wrong yet. . .she felt proud when doing so. . .
[♡]ー ꒱・!the well disciplined head chief prosecutor and a mature lady - LANA SKYE.
Lana Skye what a woman indeed but for a lover is what you need. Her clacking heels will be put on a stop to reach your height for a quick but meaningful kiss, a kiss that will leave a pink lip mark on your cheek. Lana never tells her relationship out loud she knows her position but whenever another prosecutor tries to hit on you whenever you visit her, Lana has to stop herself from deeply clawing her fist up hands. What can we say about Lana, she’s the mature one in the relationship so why can’t you just trust her with everything in your life?
[♡]ー ꒱・!the mysterious coffee-loving prosecutor with a deep grudge - “GODOT.”
The aroma from his green vest, and the aftertaste of the strong coffee on his lips yet your lips are the most addicting then the most strongest coffee. Godot’s kisses are slow, sensual and teasing yet like the coffee he makes there’s always something deeper and complex than what it seems. Godot’s kisses are teasing but there’s a possessive grip on your waist when he does, his touches are always like he doesn’t want to let go of you, each exploration of your lips for him makes him more addicted more then ever. Instead of a caffeine overdose he’ll be overdosing on your lips, with his hands wandering around you, that he won’t mind getting all bloodied up for you.
[♡]ー ꒱・!the flamboyant rockstar prosecutor who sticks to his morals - KLAVIER GAVIN.
The flashing lights in his concert that goes on par with the neon colours, yet not even with all of lights and music blasting through his ears and eyes could distract him—Klavier has eyes only for you. Teasing and quick are Klavier’s kiss for you, as a pop star and a prosecutor he doesn’t really have much free time, but to make up for it he would always invite you at his concert at the backstage, once he’s done preforming he would kiss you with a bit in your lip as must of his sweat fills your senses, as his arms wraps around your skin wanting to preserve the moment, may it be the adrenaline in his veins but he’d pull you into the second phase of the concert and proudly proclaim your statues of being his significant other, as he deepen the kiss again. Such action would make sure that you won’t leave him especially when you have the prying eyes of the public.
[♡]ー ꒱・!the intimidating black and white twisted samurai - SIMON BLACKQUILL.
His rough and calloused hands gently holds your bottom lips for permission, as his lips moves towards your, his muscular build leans towards yours like you’re his only pillar in life. Simon knows that his hands aren’t made for loving, there were made only for protecting and yet a different kind of story when you’re both in silence, his lips chapped yet his kisses are slow and rough, like a man ravaging his last meal but in fact he’s just motionless experience at this you’re his first when it comes to this. His kisses are meant to show love but his hands are meant to have crimson seeping blood on it but only just for you.
[♡]ー ꒱・!holy and enchanting yet sharp in his own ways - NAHYUTA SAHDMADHI.
Elegant and grace but like a midnight wave one mistake shall send someone to the grave. A motto is what embodies Prince Nahyuta his pious nature makes every head turn towards him yet when it comes to you-it’s you who are his deity. The softness of the silk robe that Nahyuta is nothing compared to his lips, oh how plum and luscious it is words towards you are sweet like cake but like cake it has layers, the layers you may ask? Layers of manipulation spewing out of his plum lips. That’s why his kisses are soft and velvety that hides a sinister intend. The golden ring is what he wants to cling on for you.
[♡]ー ꒱・!the wussy and crying but growing young prosecutor - SEBASTIAN DEBESTE.
The soft sob that resonates with the room as his salty tears run down his cheeks. Sebastian is an absolute mess to everything in his life but an absolute disaster when he sees you looking at him. Soft kisses are a need for Sebastian after the lack of love and validation he desperately wanted from other people, that’s why slowly caress his coffee-coloured hair as he gently weeps on your lap. The salty tears staining your clothes, please forgive him! He didn’t mean to yell at your best friend just because they needed you for a while!
[♡]ー ꒱・!the boot-rising, lip service deadly prosecutor - BAROK VAN ZIEKS.
London’s harsh winter and the warmest season has none in common but for Barok it’s the same when he pulls you for a deep and deprived kiss. His gloves are always on proper place when it comes to you, he desperately needs your touch, a deprived man till his core, his cold hands even near a fireplace wanders your collars and many more. His lips is as cold for how he kiss death, he knows that but when he kisses you your lips is as warm and divine as the sun it self, it warms the aching desire he has but only temporary. After you pull back he is wanting more from you. . .
[♡]ー ꒱・!the head of labyrinthia's order of knights - ZACHARIAS BARNHAM.
His firey hair is as matching as his passionate and deep kisses. Zacharias Barnham himself is a man of words and action, when he says he’d love you till the whole city is in blaze he means it. He is passionate about everything he cares about but you bring a different kind of passion inside him. His kisses is passionate and tender, as it is meant to be with you. His arms are warm and strong around an intention of never letting you go. He will give you everything that he is because he feels like his heart was carved out for you from the very beginning and nothing is going to ever take that away from him ever.
[♡]ー ꒱・!high inquisitor of labyrinthia with a firey ambition - “DARKLAW”
Her cold, gold, clawed hand holds your cheeks as Darklaw softly slammed her lips upon yours. Her role as the inquisitor means she only have few moments with you “few” because whenever she’s with you it feels like time is nothing for her, that’s why her kisses are quick but un intentionally rough. Those witch trails do take a huge toll on her, so forgive her for accidentally bruising your lips after she just sent one of your friends into the infamous fire of Labyrinthia. That doesn’t matter now though, when her body still tenses from kissing and her heart thumps wildly within her chest, the way she leans into your warmth while her other hand slides up your arm and then cups your jaw in her palms, it doesn’t matter at all. You were always meant to be hers. She loves you so much, even if she was never supposed to fall for you. . .

Lunchbreak Overthinking || Drabble
Fandom: Ace Attorney Wordcount: 1,226 Warnings: None
AN: a rather self indulgent small piece because my personal workday was absolute garbage. My writing skills are quite rusted from disuse, be nice.
Ah, fanfic, where you can fulfill your desire of /not/ being the first on the elevator and thus having someone hold it open for you rather than vise versa.
shout out to this youtube video for being my ambient writing music ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hold the door, please!" The voice calling interrupted Klavier’s thoughts, instinctively reaching his arm out to block the elevator door so Mary could slip in.
It wasn't particularly crowded, just him, prosecutor Blackquill and his falcon, and now Mary and her little robin. The elevator was suited for at least three more people to fit comfortably, but nobody else seemed to want to get on
"Thank you," Mary said as Klavier allowed the doors to shut.
"Kein Problem," he replied, looking at her as she balanced several file maps in her arms and hands.
"What floor do you need?" "Five. Thanks."
He just gave her a smile, quietly acknowledging her thanks in that way. Seemed like they all had a little while to go in the elevator, so Klavier didn't mind some small talk- At least Mary replied, unlike Blackquill who was very often not in the mood to chitchat.
"Anything new on the administrative personnel's grapevine?"
"Payne might get himself killed or worse if he touches the copy machine again. Not even by the copy machine, but by us. Like, if you don't know how it works, don't push every button you can find five times in a row."
Klavier chuckled a little at that, knowing fully well both the frustration of the administrative workers and Payne’s less than stellar relationship with said copy machine
“Ach, has he still not figured out that she’s a delicate machine and needs to be treated as such?” “Nope- ah, this is my stop. Can we catch up later?” “Lunch in my office? It’ll keep you away from Payne.” “Deal!”
And with that, Mary rushed off to deliver the file maps she needed to their designated place, her fiery red to blonde hair and her little bird companion trailing close behind her as she cleared the corner.
It was at that moment that Simon lowkey rolled his eyes. He was far from easy to impress on the best of days, but this whole display left him even less so.
“Having lunch with your ex, of all people? At your office? Sounds like a sure fire way to get the rumour mill started.”
Klavier merely raised an eyebrow at the other’s statement.
“Oh? Forgive me if I’m wrong, Herr Blackquill, but you don’t seem the type to engage in gossip. Unless you want to join us, as well, to supervise that two adults in their professional space will behave as such?”
Simon only gave Klavier a side glance in reply.
“Mary und I are still friends. Last time I checked there was no rule forbidding friends from visiting someone’s office.”
“Mhhm, ‘just friends.’ Is that what the kids call it nowadays?”
The elevator gave another ding as both ended on their respective stop, with Blackquill not even giving the conversation a second thought as he left for his office.
“You’re barely two years older than me,” Klavier muttered under his breath, knowing that yelling it after the Twisted Samurai would yield in absolutely zero results. Besides, it was none of the other prosecutor’s business, and Klavier knew for a fact that Blackquill wasn’t exactly the most social person in the building.
Not enough to start weird rumours about people, anyway.
- Soon the hands of the clock proudly proclaimed that lunchtime was to start, and Mary quickly made her way up the stairs to the prosecutor’s floor. Most of the people coming down from their office would go with the elevator anyway, so the stairs were much quicker.
Her little bird trailed close behind her yet again and landed comfortably on her shoulder when they reached the top of the stairs, chirping a merry little tune as she made her way to Klavier’s office.
“I can hear you coming from a mile away,” he said with a smile before she even entered the room, as the robin fluttered off and landed of Klavier’s shoulder instead with a happy cheep.
“Hi, Grayson. You’re quite the fluffy little chime, aren’t you?” he laughed, very gently petting the bird with a single finger as Mary took one of the seats and made herself comfortable.
It wasn’t long after that they were both sharing silly stories of weird visitors, clients and some minor gossip about less than preferred co-workers. They were simply laughing and having a good time in each other’s company, moving on to the subject of Klavier’s gig on saturday.
“So, do you have anything planned this weekend?” “Nah. One of the guys downstairs did ask me out on a date, this morning, but I kind of.. blew him off.”
“And then went to have lunch with me?” “I’d much rather have lunch with you than play mind games and twenty questions with someone who’s barely even said hello to me thrice.”
It was that line that seemed to stay on loop in Klavier’s mind, long after the mutual lunchbreak was over and he was in his office signing documents and sorting away.
That was a completely reasonable thing, right? To rather want to spend your time with a trusted friend then a near stranger? Especially for Mary.
As the heart shaped flag pendant on her necklace boldly stated, she did identify as demisexual. Arguably it was even more likely for her to pass on the idea of a date with someone who hadn’t shown that much interest yet aside from just general common curtesy.
His fingers drummed a small rhythmic tune on his desk as he stared at the computer screen, his thoughts definitely somewhere else. Because the thing was... wasn’t that exactly why they ended up mutually breaking up? Because with her career, his career and his side career, there had barely been anytime to just sit and talk and be in each other’s presence and yet... here they were now, making and taking time out of their schedule to catch up a little over their lunchbreaks.
Is that why prosecutor Blackquill felt the need to comment on it? But he didn’t even know their backstory. For all he knew there could be a whole slew of reasons why something romantic didn’t work out between Klavier and Mary.
Klavier propped the elbow of his free arm on his desk, resting his jaw on his knuckles as his right hand was still rhythmically tapping on the desk. His eyes slowly averted away to the left as he sunk deeper in his thoughts, the task on the computer momentarily being placed on the back burner
... Had the fix to their tight schedule problem really been that easy? Surely not. Not being together romantically took the pressure off things, and it seemed to be far more reasonable to find small ways during the workday to spend at least some time with a friend. Not that it was the business of anyone else, but it wasn’t like they had lunch in Klavier’s office daily. This had been the first time in at least several weeks. that should perfectly fine, right?
Right.
He shook the thought away, turning back to his tasks. He still had a few hours left to get it all done, but better make sure it got done. He wasn’t exactly in the mood for overtime, today.
There is no way it would’ve been that easy. They would’ve thought of it way before breaking up if it was.
 …. Right?

and then all of the filler characters would be various other smp members (suggestions?)
so then the plot would go as follows (we're bullet pointing this bitch you better run)
°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•
• so tommy arrives in the courtroom with dream, and he's nervous as hell, because not only is it his first trial
• his client is wilbur fucking soot
• world renouned defense attorney, now disbarred for forging evidence
• but tommy is 110% sure wilbur is innocent
• because wilbur is his HERO
• and then dream introduces them and damn he looks like shit
• i'm talking full pogtopia era get-up, plus a ratty beanie that has wilby painted on it and a crown pin
• so wil spouts the standard cryptic bullshit you'd expect from phoenix
• and tommy does an early smpe earth 'i am so cool and not at all starstruck' type act
• and they head in
• you meet the judge, who i didn't replace bc it's the judge
• tommy does his chords of steel, but with significantly more swearing then apollo would use
• and dream seems to be just a bit off
• and he goes on this big tirade about blue cards
• the case goes smoothly, until
• tommy feels something akin to a burning from the compass he's kept as a necklace for as long as he can remember
• and he just knows that the witness is lying
• it's like he can see the tiniest of tells that tip him off
• dream doesn't quite understand it, but wilbur looks like he knows exactly what's going on
• before he calls this out, though, a recess is called
• wilbur and dream have a chat, so tommy's left to his own devices
• and this boy about his age in a green magician's outfit runs up to him
• and he looks like an older version of the picture of wilbur's kid that he showed off in court beforehand
• and he hands tommy a (bloody??) playing card and poofs away
• then the trial resumes as normal, with tommy grilling the witness and eventually accusing her
• but it just doesn't seem right
• he knows she's not lying about being innocent, her tells would have tipped him off if she was
• but dream pushes and pushes him to formally accuse her
• until wilbur fucking soot interjects with an OBJECTION!
• while tommy geeks the hell out, wilbur asserts that there must have been someone else in the room
• and accuses dream.
• tommy's confused, and the both of them argue back and forth for a bit, until wilbur starts explaining his theory with evidence from tommy along the way
• but it's seeming like they don't have any non circumstancial evidence
• until wilbur has tommy pull out the playing card
• (i haven't been explaining the case but it makes sense i promise)
• they win the case, with dream never faltering or showing emotion, even after being taken away
• tommy's shaken up, but happy, all things considered
• but before he can ponder on what's just happened, wilbur takes him aside to talk
• and admits the card was forged
• tommy's shocked, and he's sad, and he's angry, because how could wilbur fucking soot forge evidence??
• and he punches him in the face
• wil smiles and gives him an offer to work at his office, since tommy's boss is kind of in jail
• tommy leaves
• but he comes back a few months later, only out of desperation
• he's greeted by the boy from the trial (wil's kid?)
• who demands to know his name and his 'talent'
• tommy says he's a lawyer and introduces himself
• the kid says his name is tubbo and that the building hasn't been a law office in a long time
• tommy asks to see wilbur
• so they go to see him
• in the fucking hospital
• he managed to get hit by a car, which sent him flying 40ft back into a telephone pole
• and he sprained his ankle
• he's very lucky apparently
• so from there, cases 2 and 3 play out (i'm gonna skim though these bc if i write them out ill end up rewriting plot points and i don't have the energy)
• along the way, they meet a few interesting people
• ranboo, a prosecutor who's dream's younger brother and the guitarist for a popular band, that tubbo immediately gets along with and tommy despises
• dispite seeming cocky, he's impressively awkward outside of court
• technoblade, a detective who's fairly standoffish towards tommy and tubbo alike, but has a soft spot for wilbur (do they have a history)
• kristin, a singer with a past she can't remember (unbeknownst to tommy, his compass tends to point towards her and tubbo. odd)
also before we move on to the final case, a quick summary of the dynamics and other small shit bc seritonin
• though wil adopted tubbo, they have much more of a sibling dynamic, and cause general mayhem
• wilbur does actually warm up to tommy fairly quickly (beanix and apollo dynamic, my abbhorrent) and while tommy still doesn't 100% trust wil, they do end up getting pretty close as time goes on
• tubbo and ranboo IMMEDIATELY hit it off, much to the dismay of tommy, and the two of them act like the dummy named micheal that tubbo uses for magic tricks is their son
• tommy acts like he hates ranboo's guts, but that won't stop him from trying to sweet talk his way into getting evidence from him (it always works, ranboo has no spine.) he also, like in canon, vents to ranboo whenever he needs to, and ranboo ends up knowing more ab him then even wil and tubbo
• jack is eldoon. they all go to his noodle shop constantly and tommy always complains about them being too salty. jack hates him with a passion but adores tubbo and wil
• instead of snakooos, techno deadass just has entire bags full of raw potatoes that he eats like chips, this is terrifying to everyone except wilbur, who acts like it's completely normal
• instead of pretending to be taken hostage in case 2, tubbo deadass pretends to have a nuke and threatens to set it off unless a recess is called. after things calm down they go back in and he just,, doesn't get arrested. the law is fucked
• after case 1, dream wears a smiley mask in order to not show his face, paranoid that tommy or someone else like him will know his secrets though his tells
okay now final case here we go
• wilbur tells tommy and tubbo that he's been working on a special trial with the jury system, and that he needs them to defend
• they agree, and go to meet the client
• things generally go like any other investigation, but there's just something about it that feels game changing
• and as they power though the first part of the trial, they start to uncover that there might be someone pulling the strings from behind the scenes
• tommy clocks her tell (chewing her nails) and they start to make progress
• but before they can uncover answers from her, she passes out
• a recess is called, and so are paramedics
• it turns out she's ingested the same kind of poison as the victim, coming from her nail polish
• tommy and tubbo are shaken up, and they go to wil for help
• he decides they need to know the full truth, but he knows that some of the evidence is lost at this point
(and holy shit stay with me here i promise that as out of left field this is the original game made significantly less sense)
• he phones a friend that he knows is the only one that can help them
• karl
• he explains the situation, and karl agrees to help them
• and they fucking time travel
(again, the game makes even less sense i promise)
• they chat with the victim and defendant from seven years beforehand, right after wil was disbarred
• they watch the trial wil got disbarred over, where he defended tubbo's bio father, phil
• and they see a much smaller tubbo hand wil the forged evidence, saying that a kind man told him to give it to the man with the bright blue hamilton suit
• and they watch wil present it, only to be shot down by a much younger ranboo, who proves it's fake
• and they find out tubbo and tommy are bio siblings, which they're shocked about but decide to talk about later (fuck canon tommy and tubbo get to know)
• and they go visit dream in prison
• at this point wil is CONVINCED dream is behind everything, they just need the right evidence
• so they head to the cell, only for it to be empty
• naturally, they start snooping
• wil finds a letter, and opens it to reveal exactly what they need to win the case
• but before they can leave, dream, equipped with a smiley mask, stops them
• they exchange a few words before they leave, letterless
• luckily, wil has a trick up his sleeve, and reveals that his crown pin has a built in camera
• they examine the contents of the letter, and wil hastily makes a replica, and they head off to the trial
• since they're experimenting with the jurist system for the first time, they can't afford to wait for the defendant to heal, so they proceed
• they call dream to the stand
• they grill him for quite a while, with the help of ranboo who refuses to protect his brother, getting him to show his true colors, and then pull out the letter
• and he says that it's a fake, which the judge unfortunately agrees with
• so they don't have their evidence
• and even though they've shown pretty much everything and dream had practically admitted to bring a murderous bastard and the one who gave tubbo the fake to give to wil
• they don't have enough to convince a judge
• tommy and tubbo are crushed
• but wil is happy
• because they don't have to convince a judge
• they have to convince a jury
• and they win
• dream shatters along with his mask, going completely off the deep end
• their client is safe, and so is wil
• kristin also reveals to wil that she's tommy and tubbo's bio mom, saying that she'll tell them when she's really
• so things come to a close
• for now, anyway
so yeah, thats AJ but dsmp, to anyone who didn't play the game, i'm so sorry this makes no sense, and to anyone who did, you're cool as hell can we be moots 👉👈

"Accidentally" commit collusion like it doesn't happen multiple times throughout aa4
Listen, listen.
Tumblr media
Klavier being a love-struck school girl, too blinded by the hearts in his eyes to see that giving Apollo evidence and leading him to the right answers in court might come across as a little bit unprofessional is NOT collusion
...but only because Apollo would have had to be aware of it happening first.

OKAY SO I COULDNT CHOOSE BETWEEN THESE TWO SO KLAPOLLO FOR (KISSES PROMPTS) 15 OR (I LOVE YOU PROMPTS) 29 MAYBE???? 👀👀👀
Falling in love is easy, it is saying something about it that seems to be the problem.
It’s something Klavier and Apollo apparently excel at; they talk in circles around the feeling without ever voicing the words, their sentences falling away abruptly as they veer too close to the sentiment.
Apollo should say it.
He means to. Every time Klavier laughs he can feel the words bubbling to his lips, threatening to spill over into the air around them.
He wants to say it, too. So badly that there are times when it is the only thought in his mind, playing over and over like a skipping record.
Every time Klavier smirks at him in court or reaches for his hand in public or answers his front door wearing his hair pulled back or refers to Apollo by one of the countless nicknames he’s bestowed.
But he doesn’t.
In the beginning he’d held his tongue for the simple reason that Klavier was Klavier; what if Apollo was fooling himself, thinking someone like that would want something more from someone like him? But as time passed and the looks between them began to linger too long and their eyes seemed to say the words that their mouths apparently couldn’t, the reason changed. If Klavier felt the way Apollo thought he did about him, why hadn’t he said it? He’d stared right back into Klavier’s perfect face and silently urged him to be the one to break the stalemate.
But he didn’t.
They were reaching a point where it was becoming completely unbearable. Apollo was sure that Klavier was writing songs about it, he could hear Klavier humming an evolving melody under his breath whenever his attention was otherwise occupied. The urge to ask about it was so strong that it made it difficult for Apollo to focus on anything except the soft notes floating in the air between them.
If someone didn’t say something soon, Apollo might actually go insane.
So, Apollo should say it. He imagines the conversations they might have leading up to it, the words that he will say other than just blurting the obvious at the first sight of Klavier’s smiling face. This is what he will say if Klavier seems surprised, if Klavier isn’t ready to say it back, if Klavier doesn’t actually feel the same way.
But, though there are hundreds of possible scenarios Apollo has run through in his head, the way it actually goes is not one of them.
It happens like this:
[removed for length!]

question for all you ace attorney writers out there:
when updating the setting for the localization, which of the following do you do?
Make it LA and try to keep it as realistic to the cityscape and atmosphere as possible?
Make it LA but do whatever the heck I feel like because why not? Who’s fact checking anyway?
Name it Japanifornia and call it a day.
Don’t update it, keep it Japan.
No thoughts, head empty, just gay lawyers.

Dear Chocolatier,
thank you so much for being here!! my sincere apologies for the lateness and messiness of this letter! sorry about my incredibly inconsistent capitalisation! it has been updated on the 8th of january, and may receive more updates this week.
I’m a simple bitch with simple tastes; here is a general summary of my preferences, and fandom-specific notes and prompts can be found further down!
I very much enjoy:
Fics that are short, but imply a longer, deeper verse; since this exchange is for short fics, but some of my prompts seem expansive, I just want to give you carte blanche permission to dip into an AU, splash around in it, and simply not provide additional details.
Comedic tones, slice-of-life, lighthearted fun, any amount of improbable romcom tropes
Am also on board with misunderstandings and drama as long as there is a happy ending!
I’m deeply okay with AUs, and most likely would be down for any modern, romcom, fantasy/fairytale, gender swap, or remix/crossover AUs you feel inspired to explore! My favourite settings include mundane/urban fantasy (witches! werewolves!), anachronism-stew-with-magic western fantasy jumbles, and disney’s Tangled.
Writing tropes I love:
Proposal fic
Wedding fic where the couple getting married is not the main couple
Outsider/third character POV of the main couple
Exes who are still in love/getting back together
Friends-with-benefits-with-feelings/did a bad job keeping it casual
Shipfic where two or more couples are contrasted
Oblique declarations of love/saying i love you without saying i love you
Provision and caretaking (acts of service!)
Aggressive matchmaking/wingmanning by an enthused friend
Hanahaki, or any other improbably dramatic instances of Cannot Spit It Out
Arranged marriage/fake marriage/fake dating
Epistolary fic
Regrettably I also love a/b/o, especially the kind that emphasises on scent safety and contains little to no actual sex
Art tropes I love, if you offered art:
Art where the characters simply look fond.
Fashion remixes – street fashion, cultural/traditional clothes, festival clothes, renfaire-esque clothes, beach photoshoot, get wild with it
Putting animal characteristics on one or both of them
Botanical motifs + celestial motifs
When plants grow directly out of people
The thing where character A is focused on something they’re doing or seeing, and the character B is focused only, wholly, desperately on A. please… the Gaze
Depictions of intimacy where faces are partially or fully hidden, but the body language is gentle
Characters SLEEPING next to each other, or comfortably doing separate activities in each other’s presence
If you wish to get frisky with your fills:
Yes!
Go for it!
I don’t have strong top/bottom preferences (and usually enjoy it when they switch or are otherwise generally equitable) so whatever you’re in the mood for is fine!
Kink tropes I very much enjoy include oral, restraints, praise kink, when proud characters cry during sex because they love their partners so much, and xeno tropes.
I love non-horny sex scenes; comedic, silly, charged, fraught, or simply affectionate exchanges that happen to include sex are my favourite. Feelings are the real kissing disease.
But like, if you wanna get horny about it.
Chase your bliss.
They simply must be in love.
I’m not as into:
Kidfic
First person narration
Soulmate AUs specifically
Kink wise, my only major squicks are incest, teacher/student, and public sex/getting caught, but i’m also not super keen on daddy kink, toilet stuff, or anything with blades or needles.
In general, please avoid:
Character death or serious/permanent injury
Animal abuse or death
Infidelity
Hopeless or downer endings
Fandom specific info:
Haikyuu!!
changed my life, cured my depression, what can be said about it? truly one of the most important series to me of all time. all musings on craft and creativity aside, let’s focus on the TRUE LOVE!!
i’m all caught up with the manga and supplementary materials!
suggested prompts: - sakuatsu, being mean to each other on purpose vs. being soft to each other by accident - kagehina or iwaoi dealing with LDR - kyouhaba are forced to cooperate on an innocuous, preferably wholesome task, such as gardening, or finding the owner of a lost dog, and it goes approximately As One Would Expect - bokukuroo + overheard phone conversation: and you've slept together how many times now? hmm. yeah, that's not technically a bromance (not in a no-homo way, just in a we-are-both-so-stupid-and-like-each-other-so-much-way) - actually that overheard phone conversation would work for any of these ships.
suggested prompts, art-specific: - festival clothes!! - put some wings on some of them. now it's bird romance, which is for birds - (i lied, this isn't art-specific at all, wingfic is always welcome in any of its forms) - just pick up your whole boyfriend and carry him like that. maybe even kiss him.
Or please do remix it with any of my general tropes listed above!
Oofuri
suggested prompts: - Hanai and Tajima really. struggle to get together. for like a bunch of years probably? Tajima copes with it by patiently processing his emotions in a healthy way and enjoying some casual dating. Hanai copes with it, as he does all things, by not coping - The ways Abe and Mihashi learn to take care of each other… Mihashi cooking 4 Abe… T_T
Promare
i simply think the twink and the himbo are in love.
Ace Attorney
favourite klapollo dynamic goes like this:
klavier: *genuinely and sincerely in love with apollo, in a very soft way* apollo: *furious* he's mocking me. why are you like this? klavier: I enjoy your company apollo: FINE, KEEP YOUR SECRETS
also consider: - what if klavier was a big ol golden retriever and apollo was just an angry liddol bunny. like, think about it
Or please do remix it with any of my general tropes listed above!
Wotakoi
I love that this series has three couples in different stages of a relationship: one who’ve been together for years and love each other like well-worn grooves; one who have history but have only just recently begun a relationship and are discovering each other anew; and one who probably will not bring themselves to share a kiss for another 27 calendar years.
Narumi/Hirotaka: Honestly, the main couple of a series usually goes over my head a bit, but the more i thought about these two the more wretchedly fond of them I became. The thing I think of the most is how Narumi taught him how to smile as a child; how she did things that meant nothing to her, so easily does kindness come, but that meant so much to him; and how now that they are grown, he does things for her that take no effort, but shake her foundations. I think theirs is a love that grows quietly; something that cannot change the world, but can change them.
Koyanagi/Kabakura: My thoughts on these two are not complex, but they are deeply positive. I love how huge their personalities are, and how they fit around and against each other; I love the implication that despite their endless bickering, they are not an on-again-off-again kind of relationship, and have instead chosen each other over and over again for ten straight years. I love that despite everything, they are kind to each other, first and foremost; they find ways to apologise and to take care of each other, and treat each other gently in private.
Kou/Naoya: I love every ship in this manga equally but perhaps I love Kou/Naoya more equally than the other two? They are just so kind and so silly, and so sweet to each other in exactly the way both of them didn’t realise they were missing. I think about Naoya being told that Kou is “okay with being alone”, and realising that “okay with it” and “have accepted it” are different, and taking his little baby steps to fix it. I think about Kou giving Naoya every last drop of patience he’s trained himself not to accept, and doing so because it simply makes her happy. My only concern is that they are both bottoms. I don’t have a solution for this.
suggested prompts, fic:
- accidentally dating ft. Kou and Naoya, or, “and you’ve made out how many times now? Hmm. Yeah, that’s not technically a bromance.” - 5 times Hirotaka and Narumi almost, almost kissed, and 1 time they did; the unresolved romantic tension may kill me and it would be worth it - what Hirotaka and Narumi taught each other (apart from the more mundane gaming and life skills, i believe that she taught him how to smile and be loved by others, and he taught her how to be loved by herself!) - smutty domesticity ft. Koyanagi and Kabakura — a lazy Sunday, laundry in the sun, fucking on the couch, everything easy with familiarity - (addendum to above: pegging)
suggested prompts, art: - festival clothes - someone’s getting married - naoya: *hands kou a tangerine* *hands kou a tangerine* *hands kou a tangerine* *hands kou a tangerine* *hands kou a t - red string of fate motifs
Or please do remix it with any of my general tropes listed above!
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun
seowaka: they are idiots, and they like each other very much, but they do not know. i love a tall crying boy and his short but much more powerful girlfriend.
chiyo/nozaki + chiyo/nozaki/mikorin: im rooting for her in the face of such overwhelming stupidity. one himbo is difficult enough to seduce but two. chiyo is a hero and a woman of rare courage. i like the pair and the trio equally; again, if you go with trio, it’s important that they all love each other please!
suggested prompts: - 5 times any of these ships went on a date without realising, and the time they realised - urban fantasy AU where Waka is a hapless monster hunter and Seo is an annoying but deeply harmless werewolf who’s been terrorizing his town?? - fairytale AU where Seo believes she must rescue the prince from the tower and deliver him back to the kingdom capital, and the prince, who had not realised he’d been kidnapped, thinks Seo is a usurper from a rival kingdom who must be supervised all the way back to the kingdom capital to be served her justice
suggested prompts, art-specific: - festival clothes… - nozaki carrying chiyo, who’s carrying mikorin - (seo carrying waka) - waka sleeping peacefully in seo’s presence… :’(
Or please do remix it with any of my general tropes listed above!
we made it through all the fandoms.
Thank you for making it to the end of this whole disaster; I hope at least one of the prompts sparked joy! The most important thing to me is that whatever you end up doing, you are able to enjoy the process at least somewhat, and deliver a creation that you like! I can also be found on twitter at @hawberries_ (for art) and @popplioikawa (for general ramblings). If you need some more inspo, I recommend going through my art tags for the selected ships because I put a lot of Opinions into my fanart.

Note
For the domesticity meme: Kalvier and Apollo?
who cooks normally?:
—I feel like Klavier’s a lot more used to just eating out a lot on a whim, while Apollo’s usually cooked for himself, so he has a lot more experience and does it most of the time. Apollo’s sort of made Klavier start to grow a taste for home-cooked food though, so the latter’s also been trying to do it more and improve at it.
how often do they fight?:
—Not very? I referenced this in that one prompt ficlet I wrote, but I think a good chunk of Apollo’s seeming disdain toward Klavier is for reasons that aren’t really Klavier’s fault. Once he accepts those and gets over them, I don’t really see them fighting more than the typical healthy disagreements.
what do they do when they’re away from each other?:
—They miss each other, but they mostly handle it pretty well. They definitely call/text each other a lot, especially during longer periods of separation. Klavier occasionally writes songs for Apollo on trips — nothing mindblowing, but gentle and heartfelt. Apollo sometimes watches videos of Klavier’s previous trials, and on especially especially lonely days when Klavier can’t answer the phone, he listens to the Gavinners’ old music. He even sings along, but only if he’s positive no one’s around.
nicknames for each other?:
—Apollo often just abbreviates to “Klav”, and he sometimes still uses “Prosecutor Gavin” to be snarky. Likewise, when in a mood for a little teasing, Klavier still occasionally calls him “Herr Forehead”, buy with a slightly more flirty tone (which Apollo kind of likes, though you’d have to break more than a few Psyche-Locks to get him to admit it).
who is more likely to pay for dinner?:
—It’s about 50/50. Even though Klavier has offered to just pay every time due to his ridiculous salary, Apollo said he doesn’t want to mooch off him. Really, though, he just doesn’t want it to look like he can’t support himself (it’s really more for the sake of his own perception than anyone else’s).
who steals the covers at night?:
—Klavier did at first, and he unsuccessfully tried to stop doing it, but Apollo eventually learned he had to just fight back and yank them back to himself. That, or keep extra covers on hand. Maybe more than one, just to be sure.
what would they get each other for gifts?:
—Well, among more general stuff and occasional outliers and such… Apollo would probably get Klavier something music-related, for one. CDs of bands he might like, fancy guitar picks, and so on. I think Klavier would definitely use at least some of his rockstar connections for finding gifts — maybe not super-expensive/extravagant ones, but like ones that are obscure or hard to get, especially in the US, and they often come with autographs of famous people Apollo likes. Also, just to be a little shit, he’d also get Apollo some Gavinners merch — T-shirts, alarm clocks, you name it (Apollo would “reluctantly” use them, but never in public).
who remembers things?:
—I think they’re both pretty good at that? Their jobs do require paying a lot of attention to detail, after all.
who cusses more?:
—Apollo, by a long shot. He is so done with Ace Attorney Protag Syndrome, and he’s got a lot of words to say about it. A lot of swear words, to be precise. (Some say you could hear one particular F-bomb throughout the entire courtroom.) Klavier still curses occasionally (mostly in German, because he can) but not nearly as often.
what would they do if the other one was hurt?:
—Klavier would be more on the panicked, worried kind, fretting a lot and spending a lot of time at the hospital if Apollo had to stay there. Apollo would be worried too, of course, but I think he’d also be likely to get angry at whoever hurt Klavier, down to straight-up trying to fistfight them if they were still around.
who kissed who first?:
—Apollo was a lot more awkward about expressing physical affection, especially initiating it, so Klavier definitely kissed him first — either on the mouth or maybe the forehead, just to be cheeky. Apollo then tried to (unsuccessfully) hide his blush, which Klavier thought was adorable.
who made the first move?:
—Well, this one’s a given. Klavier’s been flirting with Apollo pretty much the whole time they’ve known each other.
who started the relationship?:
—I think after Apollo did some soul-searching and sorted out his feelings, he was the one to seek out Klavier and ask him out. They did have a pretty long talk about things first, but Klavier was more than happy to accept.

GS4 vs AJ:AA - Episode 3, Part 2
Good, I’m not having problems with tumblr this time.
This one’s a bit on the shorter end, which I notice goes for many day 1 trials in cases with more than one trial day, but I can still find plenty of things to share, comment, and explain as always! Like with the previous episode, most of the bulk of work was from the introductions and initial setting.
While the previous one, I could squeal over Yakuza references and all that jazz, this one’s more for Klavier’s fans and classic rock junkies out there. I enjoy the occasional taste of rock too, but sorry, I’m forever a Eurobeat gal.
Oh, if only there were a future AA case about street racing... You just know that Edgeworth would be on that case. He’s probably the only prosecutor (besides maybe Klavier) who can make a sick drift and would know a thing or two about cars. Too bad for the car-less defense attorneys at the Wright Anything Agency, though.

Just wanna share lyrics. The original line, taken literally, is "Slow-acting love [is like] Atroquinine", but it's so vague that it can be reworded many ways, since it’s a song lyric.

<Klavier> 部屋から脱出できる出口は、 あの通気口だけだった! That air vent was the only way out of the room!
そして、そこには、 被告人の指紋が残っていた! The defendant's fingerprints were found on the grill!
‥‥さあ、おデコくん! ...Well, Herr Forehead?
ここから、キミは どんな“物語”を想像するかい? What fairy tale does this suggest to you?
<Apollo> ぐ‥‥ッ! Urk...!
<Klavier> ‥‥ちなみに。その通気口‥‥ Only one could pass through that vent, that "doorway to heaven"...
“天国のトビラ”をくぐることが できたのは‥‥その妖精だけ、さ。 ...and that one is our pixie.
Another song reference, but instead of a "Stairway to Heaven", it's a vent-way.
I've been watching way too much Among Us lately... but this episode from back in 2007 seems suspiciously related to a 2018 game, somehow.
> Finish pressing, present any evidence
<Apollo> 検察側の主張をくつがえす‥‥ これが、その証拠品です! This evidence does more than contradict, it flips the whole case on its head!
<Judge> ‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥ ......
<Klavier> どうやら、ぼくの言った通り。 ハッキリとした“反証”のようだね。 Thank you for presenting evidence that is both clear and plain, as requested.
<Judge> たしかに‥‥ ハッキリ“ちがう”と分かります! Yes... Clearly and plainly wrong!
その証拠品で、検察側の主張を くつがえすことはできません! I'm afraid the only thing flipped on its head here was you as a child, Mr. Justice.
<Apollo> (うう‥‥ちがったのか‥‥) (Ugh... I guess that wasn't it.)
Savage, Your Honor! The original line seems a bit disappointing in comparison: "This evidence doesn't overturn the prosecution's case at all!" That said, it does give me an idea for where the "flip on its head" phrasing came from.
> Select "no proof"
<Apollo> 反証のジュンビは‥‥ あ、ありません。 I... don't have contradicting proof, actually.
<Judge> そうですか。 それでは、さっさと判決を‥‥ Too bad. Very well, this court finds the defendant...
<Hold it!>
<Trucy> ま、待ってください! W-Waaait!
<Judge> な、なんですか。 Wh-What for?
<Trucy> 弁護側には‥‥えーと。 は、“はんしょー”でしたっけ? We have, uh, what was it called? Contradictual proof?
と、とにかく! ジュンビがありますッ! Anyway, whatever it is, we've got it!
Meanwhile, I think this line from Trucy seems a bit out of place when "contradicting proof" isn't a very difficult phrase to say. Maybe they could have thrown in something sillier like "contradicting poof- I mean, proof!" and it'd work pretty well. In JP, she's still learning her words and especially kanji, so she usually pronounces words correctly, but doesn't write them out in the text.
I like to think that whenever Odoroki speaks and uses phrases that she isn't as familiar with, she actually breaks the fourth wall and takes notes on his textboxes. Hey, learning from your peers is a great way to study! Learning Japanese with your fave Ace Attorney characters is even better.
> Ask for new witness
<Apollo> 牙琉検事‥‥ まちがいありませんか? Prosecutor Gavin, you claim that there were no witnesses to this crime.
『この事件に、 目撃者はいなかった』‥‥ Are you absolutely sure?
<Klavier> マチガイないね。‥‥誓ってもいい。 この検事生命と‥‥ Absolutely. I'd swear it on my career as a prosecutor...
100万枚を売り上げたヒット曲、 《恋のアトロキニーネ》にかけて。 And on my million-seller hit song "Atroquinine, My Love".
<Trucy> ‥‥さりげなく ジマンされちゃいましたね。 ...There he goes again.
<Apollo> ザンネンながら‥‥ この事件には、目撃者がいたのです。 That's too bad, because there was a witness.
Minor tweaking to song titles again. It was "Atroquinine of Love" before.
> 2nd Witness Testimony, present at 3rd statement, Perceive at 6th statement but point wrongly
<Apollo> あなたのココロの動き‥‥ オレには分かるんですよ。 You may have seen the world, but I've seen your heart.
あなたは、今の証言をするとき、 動揺していましたね! You were flustered during your testimony just now!
<Lamiroir> ‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥ ......
<Lamiroir> あなたの言っていることが、 よく分からないのですが‥‥ I do not understand what it is you are saying.
それは、日本語のジョーク か何かですか? さっぱりです。 Perhaps this is a joke, in your culture?
Making a note here about culture: It's characteristic of Japanese that since they have so many homophones and alike-sounding words or phrases, it's fairly simple to come up with puns out of the blue. You hear it all the time with Japanese comedians and writers who just can't help themselves and have to throw in a pun here or there. And because they can show up so suddenly, it can catch the audience off-guard, so they're more likely to appreciate the humor.
Relatively speaking, of course; as with any language, there are also those kinds of puns that are super obvious and cringy when delivered. As a language buff myself, I'm still fascinated with what goes into creating puns in the first place, whether or not they're cringy or clever.
> Present evidence to Lamiroir's contradiction to her own testimony
<Apollo> そして、こうも証言しました。 事件については“何も見ていない” Furthermore, you testified that you had "seen nothing".
<Lamiroir> ‥‥! ...!
<Apollo> お分かりですね‥‥ レタス氏が“撃たれた”ことを‥‥ Yet you knew that Mr. LeTouse had been shot!
あなたが、 知っているはずがないのです! How could you have known!?
<Lamiroir> ! ‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥ ...!
<Lamiroir> きゃあああああああああああッッ! Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooowrk!
<Judge> ラミロアさん! Lamiroir!
‥‥あなた、まさか。 何かをかくしているのでは‥‥ You aren't hiding something from this court, I hope!
<Lamiroir> ‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥‥ ......
<Apollo> (ラミロアさんはウソをついた‥‥ ゼッタイに何かを隠している!) (That sweet song of hers was sounding a little too sweet!)
So, I'm not sure why Lamiroir's cries were localized to this. It sounds like something so out of place from someone whose voice is so beautiful and melodic usually. Maybe that was the point? Like, it's a subtle nod to sudden record-scratches or sudden cuts in a piece of music?
Fyi, Odoroki's last line here was simply: "(Lamiroir-san was lying... She has to be hiding something!)"

<Judge> “歌詞”に合わせて殺人など‥‥ I've heard of jumping rope to songs, and counting to songs...

<Judge> それでは! Very well!
この、ナゾの歌を踏まえた上で、 尋問をおねがいします! We've heard one song and dance, let's get on to the next: the cross-examination!
<Apollo> (ベツに、歌にはナゾはないと 思うけど‥‥) (I'm not so sure I'm going to be doing much singing...)
By the way, "手まり歌" (temari uta) is roughly like playing handball to a song. A temari is a ball of usually extra kimono cloth wrapped together with fabric. Over Japanese history, it went from a handmade toy to embroidery art. Link to Wikipedia.
Also, "Wild World" is a 1971 hit song by Cat Stevens too. With all the talk of songs, I figured the loc team might have been able to slip in a subtle nod.
Last couple lines there: "Let's build on this mystery song and begin the cross-examination!" "(I don't think the song itself is the mystery here, though...)"
10/21/20 edit: Ash has enlightened me to one of Takumi’s inspirations. Like Agatha Christie’s And There Was None and Van Dine’s The Bishop Murder Case, where a murder seems to follow a nursery rhyme, a classic Japanese mystery novel by Seishi Yokomizo, Akuma no Temari Uta, is a murder mystery that follows the rhymes of a song.
And now looking into his works, I just realized this man is also the legend who wrote the iconic private eye Kosuke Kindaichi. Yeah, the same guy who’s said to be the grandfather to the MC of the Kindaichi Case Files manga, by Yozaburo Kanari. What a small world we live in, after all.

For this entry, it's entirely a matter of how LeTouse's last words had to be translated. The original Japanese script didn't leave a lot for him, and there were places where it was quite ambiguous. As it turns out, he wasn't saying "megami", as in "Goddess", but "me ga mienai", as in "unable to see".
"It was... 'The witness... Megami', if I recall. We've heard them many times, with a little play-acting by our defense." "His final words, just before Death clasped on his throat and he was consumed by darkness. ...Those words had something 'following' them." "('Following'... 'Megami'...?) Ah!" "...That's right. This is what LeTouse-san was telling you: 'Ask the witness about the incident. However... that witness...' 'cannot see.' "Megami... enai... You mean, 'me ga mienai'...!?" "Though, it wasn't just Lamiroir-san who 'didn't see'."

Just making a point here since I forgot to last post: Lamiroir and later Machi are the only ones who still call people using "Mr." in English, in the JP script. However, for the briefest moment here, she refers to Mr. LeTouse with the general -san suffix instead, and I don't think this was something that was simply overlooked, since the line immediately after, where she accuses Daryan/Daian, she goes back to using "Mr." Perhaps Lamiroir is getting more and more in-tune with her other language outside of Borginese?

After going the Ace Attorney games again, here are my rankings of the six main series prosecutors:
(Side note: Still haven’t played any of the Investigations games or the Great Ace Attorney series)
6) Nahyuta Sahdmadhi
Poor Nahyuta. I hate to place him in the last place slot but after going through Spirit of Justice again, he still hasn’t grown on me. Let me just say, I don’t really like Spirit of Justice. There are a lot of aspects of that game I was not fond of, such as the final case being a repeat of Farewell, My Turnabout and the underwhelming Khura’in Civil War storyline. However, in Nahyuta’s defense, I don’t hate the character.
Nahyuta has a decent storyline and he has a unique gimmick. It’s just when compared to the other 5 prosecutors, he doesn’t really do anything for me. His storyline with Apollo feels like a rehash of the previous games (oh, the prosecutor was close friends with the defense attorney? Hmm, where have I heard that before *coughPhoenixandMilescough* *coughAthenaandSimoncough*). Also, he’s not as fun or as interesting as his counterparts.
Basically, I don’t think Nahyuta’s a bad character, he’s just my least favorite of the prosecutors.
5) Franziska von Karma
This one hurt me, mainly because I love Franziska. She seems like a fun character outside of the main Ace Attorney games based on her appearances in the Investigations series. However, if we’re going purely with her role as prosecutor in the main series, then I have to place her in the 5th place slot. But it’s not because I think she’s a bad character. She’s great! She’s a fun character to interact with and she has an interesting backstory. The problem is Justice for All.
In my opinion, Justice for All is the worst Ace Attorney game in the main series. It’s to the point that it affected my placement of Franziska on this list. First off, it’s already bad that one of the main cases she’s the prosecutor in is Turnabout Big Top aka the worst case in the entire franchise. But then there’s Farewell, My Turnabout, which absolutely screws over her character by making Miles Edgeworth the focus of the finale.
Now let me back up. Before you Miles Edgeworth fans jump down my throat, I am aware that Miles is not the prosecutor for the final case in the first game. I am NOT saying that Franziska needed to be the prosecutor in Farewell, My Turnabout. I am NOT saying Miles ruined the story. The point I’m making is that even though Miles wasn’t the prosecutor in Turnabout Goodbyes, he was still the main focus. Everything in that episode revolved around Miles’ past and his relationship with Manfred von Karma. He still got a complete character arc even though he wasn’t the rival.
In Farewell, My Turnabout, Capcom just went and said, “Go fuck yourself Franziska” and made everything about Miles again. Franziska was barely a presence in that final episode and by the time the game ended, her arc felt incomplete. Yes, the writers attempted to make her relevant to the story by having her be the one to deliver the evidence but just think about that for a second. She’s the main prosecutor of the 2nd game and the most significant thing she did in the finale was deliver items. I honestly feel her appearance in Trials and Tribulations was damage control for how shit she was treated in Justice for All.
Thankfully, it looks like the Investigations games treated Franziska better. But as for the main series, she deserved a whole lot better. I’d love to place her higher but with the storyline she got, I have to mark her down.
4) Klavier Gavin
I don’t have much to say about Klavier. I think he’s a cool character and he has a kickass gimmick. However, he’s just a mid-tier kind of character for me. Like with Franziska, it’s mainly to do with Apollo Justice / Ace Attorney 4.
People have already pointed this out but the storyline in Apollo Justice feels more like set-up for something bigger. When I first went through Apollo Justice, it felt like there was going to be more to Kristoph Gavin, more to Klavier Gavin. Phoenix Wright was at the start of a different kind of character arc and the Gramaryes/Trucy Wright would be the main focus of the Apollo Justice trilogy, just like how Maya and the Feys were the focus of Phoenix’s trilogy.
In fact, just going off on a little tangent, I already made a post about this but I was thinking that the abandoned Apollo Justice trilogy would lead to Phoenix becoming a Godot-type character. He had the seeds of that character arc planted, with his darker behavior, willingness to bend the legal system to get what he wants (using forged evidence and trapping Kristoph with the jurist system) and a similar reason to become an anti-villain (Godot was poisoned by Dahlia, Phoenix was disbarred thanks to Kristoph). He would then show up in the final game as the main rival, leading to a Phoenix and Apollo showdown.
Sorry, this was supposed to be about Klavier. The point I’m trying to make is, Klavier is a cool character but he feels wasted. Since the 5th and 6th games didn’t follow-up on the 4th game’s story, it feels like Klavier was left behind as a result. That’s why he’s low on the list.
3) Simon Blackquill
Ah yes, the twisted samurai. For the record, Dual Destinies is my favorite Apollo Justice-era game, so it’s not a huge surprise that Simon is my favorite Apollo Justice-era prosecutor. For me, what makes Simon stand out is that he’s the most “complete” of the three AJ-era prosecutors.
My issue with Klav was that his storyline feels incomplete while my issue with Yuty was that he wasn’t that interesting of a character. Simon doesn’t have those problems. For one, he has the best gimmick between the three of them. It’s an interesting concept to have a prosecutor be an actual death row inmate. What’s cool about that is that the death row inmate gimmick worked for Simon’s character arc.
Dual Destinies set Simon up as the embodiment of the dark age of the law. He was a death row inmate who constantly talked about killing his foes. That’s why the reveal that he’s actually an honorable man who never killed anyone works so well, it’s a strong contrast to how he’s set up. Also, it’s a twist that works with Simon’s character as he’s supposed to be a psychology expert. He plays up his image of a crazy killer to intimidate his enemies.
Other than that, I also feel like Simon had the best storyline of the AJ-era prosecutors. Also, even though his appearance in Spirit of Justice was a bit silly, it was still fun to see this character in a more lighter tone.
2) Miles Edgeworth
Yeah, of course Edgey is this high up on the list. Like I wrote, I can’t count the Investigations games as I haven’t played them but even then, Miles had a pretty good run in the main series. He had a strong character arc in the first game, a decent return in the 2nd game, and a strong return in the 3rd game. It was great that you actually got to play as Miles in T&T and that he was the acting defense attorney. For me, Trials and Tribulations felt like the end of Miles’ character arc as he finally became a defense attorney, just like his dad.
And honestly, Capcom should’ve left him at that. I’m not saying this is why he’s only 2nd on the list but I just want to say, I don’t think he needed to be in Dual Destinies and Spirit of Justice. Yes, I am aware that Miles’ appearances in those games were just fun guest appearances for people who want that AA original trilogy nostalgia. However, I felt that his appearances in 5 and 6 slightly ruined his character arc.
Why? Because he was back to being a prosecutor. Last time I checked, wasn’t his entire character arc about him becoming a defense attorney? He wanted to be a DA like his dad, he developed a misguided hatred of defense attorneys due to the DL-6 Incident, he was misled into believing that the number one goal of an attorney is to win court cases by Manfred von Karma, he was rescued by his friend Phoenix which led to him reassessing his life goals, he goes on a trip around the world to find himself, and then in the final game, he becomes Iris’ defense attorney, overcoming his initial hatred of DAs and fulfilling his childhood goal.
Maybe it’s just me but having Miles come back as a prosecutor in the AJ-era games feels like a step back in character development. But once again, that’s not the reason why he’s 2nd on the list. I like Miles, but I like the next guy even more. It should be obvious who it is by now.
1) Godot
Yes, I know, this is potentially a controversial choice. I just wanna say, I don’t care if you love, like, dislike, or hate Godot. Let me write the reasons why Godot is my number one prosecutor.
When I was writing this list out, I was measuring the prosecutors based on several factors. Story, character arc, design, strength as a rival, humor and so on. Just to be clear, I don’t think Godot is the best of all those categories. For example, when it comes to strength as a rival, I’d say Miles and Franziska were stronger opponents. Godot is definitely a mid-tier rival, which makes sense as he’s supposed to be a rookie / defense attorney out of his league.
So, why Godot then if he’s not the best in every category? Honestly...I’d say it’s the character overall. Regardless of your feelings towards the character, I feel that we can all agree that Godot’s story is the most tragic.
Let’s recap; Godot’s story is of a good man who was destroyed by a wicked monster. He was then abandoned by the people around him and lost the love of his life. With no one to help him, he let his grief consume him to the point that he became a bitter shell of his former self, obsessed with shaming the people he feels are responsible for the death of his lover. It’s only at the end when he realizes that all of his hatred and anger was just him projecting his own self-hatred onto someone else. That even though it wasn’t his fault, he still holds himself responsible for his lover’s death. However, it’s too late to make amends as he’s damned himself. In a moment of blind rage, he doomed himself by committing murder.
That is some HEAVY material for a game series that features the main character cross examining a parrot and conveniently developing amnesia just to set up a tutorial sequence.
Going on another tangent, you know who Godot’s storyline reminded me of? Jax Teller from Sons of Anarchy. Both characters started out as honorable men who were deeply in love. Then, tragedy struck. They lost the love of their lives and, in their final character arc, they took their rage out on everyone. Sons of Anarchy season 7 is still some of the most devastating TV I’ve ever watched and part of the reason was because of how sad it was to watch Jax fall. He fell so deep into his rage and anger that by the time he got his revenge, he burned so many bridges that the only place his character could go was death.
Same with Godot. He’s a damn Shakespearean tragic protagonist in that he was ultimately undone by his own rage and anger. You can sympathize with him based on how he came to be but at the same time, he destroyed himself. It’s a devastating character arc and, as someone who loves Shakespeare and all things theater, I absolutely loved it. It’s the one character arc that has stuck with me after going through all six games over again, even more so than Miles and Simon’s arcs.
In addition to all of this, the fact that Godot’s character arc tied the entire trilogy together is definitely worth noting. From his storyline, the game tied together Mia Fey’s death, highlighted Mia’s importance to the main storyline, and even set up Trials and Tribulations’ main villain, Dahlia Hawthorne. I love it when stories do that, when the character arcs actually work hand-in-hand with the story that the writer is trying to tell.
On some smaller notes, Godot definitely has the best character design in my opinion. Also, the best character theme (I still have the Fragrance of Dark Coffee playing in my head). Lastly, he has the best case in the original trilogy (Bridge to the Turnabout), as well as the best moment (the original pursuit theme plays when you expose the knife wound underneath his mask).
So yeah. In my opinion, Godot is the best Ace Attorney prosecutor. Those are my reasons, feel free to disagree if you want.

Sample Game Script for Ace Attorney Investigations: Klavier Gavin
I’ve been thinking about my post wherein I share some of what I’d like to see in a game titled Ace Attorney Investigations: Klavier Gavin, and I decided to put together some game script based on it.
I put a lot of thought into this, so I hope you enjoy!
(Context: Near the opening of the first case, in which Simon Blackquill assists and serves as the player’s tutorial. Klavier is called into Edgeworth’s office).
KLAVIER GAVIN: You wanted to see me, Herr Edgeworth?
MILES EDGEWORTH: Gavin. Come in. Yes, I have new case for you. A woman was found bound and dead in People Park. Her boyfriend has already been arrested, but I have my doubts. I want you to go to scene to check it out.
KLAVIER GAVIN: Check out the scene?
MILES EDGEWORTH: I know the truth matters to you as much as it does to me. I generally trust our partners at the LAPD, but this one hasn’t sat well with me.
KLAVIER GAVIN: Why’s that? (Ah... he knows me too well. If there’s even a trace of doubt... Can you really trust me, though, Herr Edgeworth? I was once negligent in my investigative duties, and an innocent man paid dearly for it for seven years.)
MILES EDGEWORTH: Rather than explain it, I think you should get a look for yourself. ... Ah, Blackquill. You’re here just in time.
SIMON BLACKQUILL: You called, Edgeworth-dono?
MILES EDGEWORTH: Yes. I would like you to accompany Mr. Gavin to People Park and assist him with investigating a crime scene there.
KLAVIER GAVIN: (Oh. So he doesn’t trust me. He thinks I need another person to keep me accountable. ... Well, perhaps he isn’t wrong).
SIMON BLACKQUILL: ... I suppose I have nothing better to do.
---
(Context: During the second case, Trucy reports to the LAPD that one of her magic props — something lovingly handmade by a WAA member who is implied to be Apollo — has gone missing. She suspects it was stolen, and she relays such to Klavier when she catches him outside the police station. Turns out, the prop was stolen — and it was used to bludgeon another man to death. Trucy is understandably upset and wants to find the murderer as well as retain her prop).
KLAVIER GAVIN: Ach, rest assured Fraulein Magician, I will help restore your precious prop to you once this is all cleared up. You don’t need to come to the crime scene. It could be rather... grisly, ja?
TRUCY WRIGHT: Oh, don’t worry about that! I used to go to crime scenes all the time.
KLAVIER GAVIN: (Ah, right. She often would assist him during investigations when he was still a rookie defense attorney).
TRUCY WRIGHT: Besides... if I help, maybe you’ll treat me to a new song? A Klavier Gavin solo, not something from the Gavinners!
KLAVIER GAVIN: Well... (I don’t know how to tell her that I haven’t been able to write any music since the Gavinners broke up—but I can’t say no to that smile). All right—you can tag along.
---
(Context: When the player examines a ladder at a crime scene during the third case).
SIMON BLACKQUILL: That’s just a ladder.
TRUCY WRIGHT: Stepladder, Prosecutor Blackquill.
SIMON BLACKQUILL: ... What?
TRUCY WRIGHT: That’s not a ladder, it’s a stepladder! My daddy tells me they’re two different things.
KLAVIER GAVIN: (... That’s a rather odd distinction for Herr Wright to make to his daughter.)
SIMON BLACKQUILL: Gavin-dono!
KLAVIER GAVIN: ... !
SIMON BLACKQUILL: Your input?
KLAVIER GAVIN: Ach. Well, of course I must side with the young fräulein!
SIMON BLACKQUILL: ... Detective Skye is right about you: You are a fop.
KLAVIER GAVIN: You wound me, Herr Blackquill!
---
(Context: During the final case, in which a man has died of atroquinine poisoning).
KLAVIER GAVIN: I... I don’t think I can keep up with this.
SIMON BLACKQUILL: ... !
TRUCY WRIGHT: What do you mean?
KLAVIER GAVIN: An envelope contaminated by atroquinine, one of the rarest poisons in the world... Either we have an extraordinary coincidence on our hands, or...
SIMON BLACKQUILL: ... There is a distinct possibility for that.
KLAVIER GAVIN: ... I can’t do this. I’ll tell Herr Edgeworth to take me off the case.
SIMON BLACKQUILL: No.
KLAVIER GAVIN: No?
SIMON BLACKQUILL: You can’t run away from this. You need to face it head on, Gavin-dono.
KLAVIER GAVIN: ...
TRUCY WRIGHT: That’s right! You can do it, Prosecutor Gavin. And Prosecutor Blackquill and I will support you all the way!
KLAVIER GAVIN: Trucy... Simon... (Deep breaths. They’re right. You can’t keep running away from him.) ... All right. It’s time to pay my brother a visit.
---
(Context: Simon and Trucy accompany Klavier to speak with Kristoph while in solitary confinement).
KRISTOPH GAVIN: Ah, it’s you, Klavier. I was wondering when you would decide to come see me again. Tell me, what’s the reason for this visit?
KLAVIER GAVIN: ...
SIMON BLACKQUILL: ... Gavin-dono?
TRUCY WRIGHT: We have some questions for you!
KRISTOPH GAVIN: I recognize you. You’re Wright’s daughter. My, you’ve grown quite a bit since I last saw you.
KLAVIER GAVIN: Don’t talk to her.
KRISTOPH GAVIN: You’re the one who brought her here.
SIMON BLACKQUILL: Never mind that. We’re here because of a murder. A man’s been poisoned by atroquinine.
KRISTOPH GAVIN: Ah? And you suspect me, Klavier? There’s no loud defense attorney for you hide behind this time.
KLAVIER GAVIN: ...
KRISTOPH GAVIN: Tsk, tsk. Why so quiet? ... Well, I have nothing to hide. Investigate away, if you must.
---
(Context: After investigating Kristoph’s cell and unsuccessfully pressing him for details that could connect him to the murder).
KLAVIER GAVIN: (Is there really nothing?! Or am I missing something important? What could I be missing?! My hands are starting to get clammy!)
KRISTOPH GAVIN: Are you finished now? Are you satisfied?
KLAVIER GAVIN: ...
TRUCY WRIGHT: Prosecutor Gavin! Don’t lose heart. Just remember what’s important to you!
KLAVIER GAVIN: ... ! (Those words... Those were the same words that defense attorney said to me when we faced off at the lowest point of my life. With those words, he pulled the darkness of self-doubt out of me and gave me the strength to pursue the truth then. I’ll forever be grateful to him for that... Right. I have not forgotten what’s important to me!) Kristoph.
KRISTOPH GAVIN: ... ?
KLAVIER GAVIN: Tell me true: Did you kill this man?
KRISTOPH GAVIN: Does it matter? It seems you’ve already made up your mind, dear brother. I’m an easy target. Just pin the blame on me, and reap the rewards for yourself. That’s what you want, isn’t it?
KLAVIER GAVIN: It does matter. I don’t seek victories. I seek the truth. If I falsely pin the blame on an innocent man, he will suffer the consequences while the real criminal gets away, free to bring harm to others. You have your own sins to pay for, Kristoph. But I will not add to them if they are not the truth.
KRISTOPH GAVIN: ... I did not kill him.
KLAVIER GAVIN: ... (I have no reason to believe him. And yet, I do. Okay. If it’s not him, then it’s someone else. We have to keep moving forward.) ... Then we are done here, for now.
KRISTOPH GAVIN: “For now”? Ah, of course. You can always fall back on me if your little investigation fails.
KLAVIER GAVIN: ... Goodbye, Kristoph.
---
(Context: After the final case resolves, and it is discovered Kristoph is in fact not the murderer).
PHOENIX WRIGHT: Prosecutor Gavin.
KLAVIER GAVIN: ... ! Herr Wright? ... To what do I owe the pleasure?
PHOENIX WRIGHT: Edgeworth told me about the case—and about Kristoph being a suspect.
KLAVIER GAVIN: Ah—that’s— (What am I supposed to say? Why is he even speaking with me?) —Well, he wasn’t the one responsible.
PHOENIX WRIGHT: No, he wasn’t. Not this time, anyway. Still...
KLAVIER GAVIN: ... ?
PHOENIX WRIGHT: Edgeworth was right. It took a lot of guts for you to do what you did. You’re a great prosecutor—and a good man.
KLAVIER GAVIN: ... ! W-Well, I don’t think I would have gotten anywhere without your daughter or Herr Blackquill’s help.
PHOENIX WRIGHT: Ha, you sell yourself short. ... Hey. I wanted to tell you something: What happened to me nine years ago, I don’t hold it against you.
KLAVIER GAVIN: You—You don’t?
PHOENIX WRIGHT: No. You were young; you were manipulated by someone you trusted. I know what that’s like. ... I forgave you for it a long time ago. I hope you can forgive yourself, too.
KLAVIER GAVIN: ...
PHOENIX WRIGHT: Prosecutor Gavin?
KLAVIER GAVIN: N-Nothing. Thank you, Herr Wright.
---
(Context: Right before the credits play, the screen is black, and the player sees this introspective monologue from Klavier).
KLAVIER GAVIN: (I went home with a song in my heart. I don’t know what possessed Herr Wright to say all that to me—maybe Herr Edgeworth put him up to it—but I’m grateful. I’m also grateful to Trucy and Simon... and to that other defense attorney for that matter. I wouldn’t have made it through this without them. ... I’m feeling inspired. Maybe I should pick up my guitar and write this down).
(The credits begin. The music is new, something that hasn’t previously played in the game. Presumably, it’s Klavier’s new song).

helsa week 2020 day - modern
Objection! Hold it! Wait, what?
Or
I was going to write a nice story about Elsa bumping into her sister’s asshole ex at Disney World but he’s carting around a bunch of kids (his nieces and nephews) and is clearly exhausted and terrible at this so she ends up tagging along just to make sure one of the kids doesn’t end up falling over a railing or something when he’s not paying attention and they end up bonding…how the heck did I end up writing an ACE ATTORNEY AU?!?!
(still might write the theme park au at some point, but not today apparently)
(warning: this will probably make zero sense if you aren’t familiar with the plot of the first Ace Attorney game.)
 ---
Lobby 2, before the trial of Olaf Oaken
Prosecutor: Elsa Arendelle. Defending Attorney: Anna Arendelle.
“Quite melodramatic, isn’t it? Avoiding your little sister for years, only to end up facing off with her in court?”
“Are you doubting my abilities, Prosecutor Westergard? Sister or not, I can assure you it will not make a difference to me. I shall get the criminal declared guilty, as always.”
“Just checking. Wouldn’t want my big brother’s favorite protégé getting distracted and making a mistake.”
The blonde woman turned to glare at the smirking red-head next to her.
“Ah, yes. There’s the famous ice queen-glare that makes witnesses shake in their boots!”
“Would that it worked on fellow irritating prosecutors as well.”
The door to the lobby slammed open as a large mousey-blond man fell through followed by a large brown dog barking excitedly, interrupting the two. “Oof – I have the reports you wanted, ma’am!” He motioned excitedly as he looked up, then stopped as he saw the other man. “Ugh, what’s he doing here?”
“Detective Kristoff, you’re late.” She said. Then “Hello, Sven” as she turned to greet the dog warmly. “Hans was just leaving.”
Hans sighed. “Fine, I guess I am. Good luck out there, Elsa.”
“That’s Prosceutor Arendelle to you-“
“Yeah, yeah.” he waved, already out the door.
---
Lobby 1, after the trial
“Anna…I hadn’t expected to see you again after all these years…in retrospect, it would have been better that we not have met.”
---
Police Department, a few cases later, the day before Elsa Arendelle’s trial…
“You’re really taking Elsa’s case?”
“Of course I am! I know she didn’t kill that guy! And why are you prosecuting her, aren’t you guys supposed to be buddies or something?”
“Buddies? Hah! Just because Mister Westergard’s big brother is her mentor doesn’t mean they’re buddies! Guy doesn’t even have buddies, he’s just a big jerk-“
“That’s Prosecutor Westergard to you, Detective Kristoff. And although we are…acquaintances, I have been assigned to prosecute Miss. Arendelle’s case, and that is what I intend to do. If you truly believe her to still be innocent after hearing all the facts tomorrow in court, then I expect you to prove it.”
“…You think I’m foolish for believing in her, don’t you?”
“I think you’re so desperate to believe that the sister you remember still exists somewhere inside her that you would defend her from anything, even if she stabbed you through the heart herself.”
“Well, you’re wrong, mister! Anna’s gonna kick your butt in court tomorrow, and then you’ll be sorry, you big meanie…meanie!”
“It’s okay, Olaf. Prosecutor Westergard…I am going to finish my investigation. I will see you tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow then, Miss Anna.”
---
Detention Center, Visitor’s Room, Two days later…
“…What are you doing here, Westergard?”
“Prosecutor…no, Elsa. Did you do it?”
“…Does it matter to you what my answer is? You’re still going to try to get me declared guilty tomorrow; I’m sure your brother is already upset that Anna’s been able to drag out the trial for this long.”
“Elsa…”
“…Don’t look at me like that. Like you’re having second thoughts.”
“What if I am?”
“You’re not. I know you too well. You love lulling people into a false sense of security and then betraying their trust and turning everything against them.”
“…Well, I wouldn’t say I love it…”
“…”
“…Alright, maybe I do enjoy it a teeny bit too much. But only when I’m actually sure they’re guilty.”
“You’re always sure everyone you prosecute is guilty. You have no reason to believe any differently of me.”
“…Just…just please. Answer me, and I’ll leave you alone.”
“…No.”
“No?”
“I didn’t kill him.”
“…Okay…Goodnight, Elsa.”
---
Next day, in court, just before the verdict is declared…
“That time in the elevator, seven years ago…I still have nightmares…your honor, that man did not kill my parents! …I did.”
“Elsa, no!”
---
Lobby 2, a few minutes later…
“Ha! Finally, a chance to redeem yourself, little brother! Let us see that foolish girl try to defend her sister from this!”
“…”
“…Why so glum, Hans? This is your chance. Haven’t you been waiting for an opportunity to finally defeat Elsa Arendelle and take her title as King of Prosecutors?”
“Yes, but…not like this. And isn’t she your protégé as well? Why are you so eager to have her declared guilty?”
“Are you…questioning me, little brother?”
“I…no. Of course not. I’ll…go start preparing my case.”
---
An hour later, Lobby 1
“Wooo! Did you see that! You verbally kicked his butt, Anna!”
“Yeah, pal! That was great!”
“Thanks Olaf, Detective Kristoff!  At this rate we - …Elsa? What’s wrong?”
“It’s Hans. Why…would he be trying to make himself look this bad?”
“…You think he’s doing it on purpose?”
“Anna, I’ve known him for years. Even when he first started taking cases, Hans was never this clumsy and unprepared.”
“Maybe…is it possible he’s…trying to help you, somehow? I mean, I know it sounds ridiculous, it’s Hans after all, but…Kristoff?”
“…The bailiff just told me…apparently Prosecutor Westergard isn’t feeling well. Chief Prosecutor Westergard will be taking over for him.”
“His big brother? The guy who was Elsa’s mentor? But why…Elsa, do you know?”
“…Hans…he got himself kicked out on purpose. He acted so incompetent that the Chief Prosecutor had no choice but to step in. Anna…he was there that day, wasn’t he? Maybe…maybe Hans thinks he know something we don’t, and this was the only way to get him into court.”
“…Right. Well, we’ve gotten this far. Let’s do this.”
“Be careful, Anna. If Hans is ten times more ruthless than I am, his brother is ten time more ruthless than that…”
“It’s okay, Elsa. I’ve got you. I won’t let you down!”
---
The next day
Headlines: CHIEF PROSECUTOR WESTERGARD FOUND GUILTY OF MURDER
The Chief Prosecutor, known for being undefeated, has been found guilty of the murders of the late defense attorney Iduna Arendelle and Detective Agnarr Arendelle. It was said to be a crime of passion, revenge against them for tarnishing his almost-perfect record in court. It seems he tried to frame their eldest daughter Elsa, who was trapped in the elevator with them at the time, for the crime; but their younger daughter and Elsa’s sister was able to reveal the truth about his heinous schemes…
 -----
So yeah. Basically Anna = Phoenix, Elsa = Edgeworth, Kristoff = Gumshoe, Hans = like a weird mix of Franziska and Klavier, Olaf = Maya (and Larry?(I mean as in person Anna and Elsa both knew when they were kids)), Sven = Missile the police dog
I was going to do Elsa as the defense attorney and Hans as the rival prosecutor at first, because if you’ve ever played an Ace Attorney game you know of the…”tension” between these characters, but “believing in a person so much even though you haven’t seen them in years that you defend them on blind faith against all odds” is just so Anna that I had to do it this way.
Maybe after Elsa gets her name cleared she ends up becoming a defense attorney and redeems Hans in the same way? Who knows. Also, I seem to have a running theme of “Hans’ asshole big brother is the real big bad” going here.
...Maybe the quarantine has got me a bit loopy, and that’s why I keep coming up with all these ridiculous au’s this year lol.

that was a surprise! so uhhhh, how about ace attorney? or maybe donts starve?
I’m going to do an AA one because really the only huge Don’t Starve AU I have is @ponies-of-constant right now qvq
Now as for AA, I have quite a few aus! Of course a lot of them focus on good ol’ Phoenix (my personal favorite in relation to Phoenix is the ‘Bird Watcher - Artist Phoenix’ au) but I’m going to talk about this one I have,,,yet to give a name.
See it started as an au about Phoenix being the prosecutor (surprise surprise) but then slowly formed itself into an au that was like ‘Lets drop Phoenix and Edgeworth for awhile and talk about Apollo and Klavier in this situation’ so Klavier is the defense attorney who works for Phoenix and Apollo is the prosecutor working under Edgeworth.
This au doesn’t talk about them being in any cases whatsoever, rather, it turned into something for me to use to cheer up a friend instead after some tough situations. Apollo was taken in by Edgeworth at ten, and raised as his son. Edgeworth doesn’t force Apollo to call him dad or anything but he cares about this kid a lot and his influence slowly makes Apollo want to be a prosecutor just like ol’ Miles. Edgeworth absolutely tells Phoenix about how hes fostering a child and the conversation goes just about as well as you’d expect. (something like this short snippet here)
Tumblr media
Edgeworth is aware of what happened to Apollo’s actual dad, he has no idea who Apollo’s mother is, and Apollo’s previous dad does try to do what he can in order to keep in contact with Edgeworth about the kid.
Apollo gets to see Edgeworth and Phoenix actually in court around eleven and thats when he actually meets Phoenix. During a break Apollo managed to slip away from Edgeworth and find Phoenix only to tell Phoenix that he was going to take him down one day and ‘Make mister Edgeworth proud’ and Phoenix has never adored a child more than Apollo (unless you count Trucy later on.) so he just humors him and says ‘You believe what you want kid.’
Course Apollo gets his job around seventeen, around the same time Klavier acquires his own job. He meets Phoenix in court, hes ready to go up against this man, but then Phoenix introduces Klavier like ‘Surprise I’m not actually the defense of this case!’ and Apollo really wasn’t prepared at all.
Klavier is his age, Klavier looks like hes not prepared to be in court as well, but Klavier proves this fool wrong pretty damn quickly. He enjoys the challenge though and Apollo learns to treat him as a friendly rival if not just a general friend.
Apollo is the one to basically get Phoenix fired as well via a conversation with Kristoph but I won’t go to far into that other than Apollo didn’t mean it to end so badly and he felt awful after and picked up on something being suspicious some time after as well.Clay also exists in this AU I just haven’t gotten the chance to write much about him in it sdfhldsf
All that fun aside, theres a bunch of stuff from Discord under the cut thats mostly just little tidbits and shitposts from the au itself if you wanna look at em ;0c
The entire au is a lot of fun to talk about and pretty nice on the clam side of things. Its always fun to dive deep into something without forcibly creating angst to go along with it just to make it ‘seem’ good. There needs to be more aus that are really just ‘what ifs’ and ‘hows’ but not so…..dramatic??? Depressing? Ya get me? This coming from someone who makes mostly angst aus.
Tumblr media
{I just really love the image of Klavier treating Trucy like a little sister but also encouraging her to do whatever weird shit she wants with magic. Live her life. Have fun and go wild. Its really cute and the idea that he cares for her while Phoenix is out now and then is just as nice.
I also really like the idea that hes very off-put by Valant and hesitant around him because ‘Well you don’t seem to want to help Trucy ever so why are you even around now?’ Just the general idea that he doesn’t want Trucy to grow up with any bad role models in case she gets any bad ideas. He wants to make sure shes happy and living her best life. This entire AU was originally just so I could explore the dynamic between Klavier and Trucy if they’d been a ‘brother - sister’ like pair even without being related. If Phoenix needs help raising a kid he just adopted, then Klavier is more than willing to help his currently not doin’ so hot boss.
This rest of this is about Apollo, Klavier and Trucy breaking into Kristoph’s home. Explanation? There is none. It was just something funny to talk about.}

okay so au where instead of pretending to be fulbright, the phantom pretends to be athena
the UR-1 incident still happens the same, and then athena ends up in europe living with whoever and getting her attorney’s badge at a young age. phoenix meets the real athena cykes in europe on one of his trips with edgeworth, and invites her to come join the WAA. but the athena who gets off the plane is the phantom in disguise (the game just says the phantom can’t remember anything about who he used to be, so i can’t see why the phantom couldn’t be female instead)
instead of killing athena, the phantom just kidnaps her and holds her hostage somewhere. phantom!athena joins the ranks of the agency under the guise of helping acquit blackquill but really she just wants to get close enough to get the psych profile back (and then she can just ‘reveal’ that it was athena who killed metis like blackquill worries, and leave the real athena to take the fall and serve jail time)
the climax of the game (the reveal of the phantom’s identity) would’ve had much more of an impact on me personally if i’d spent the game getting to know this new protagonist character only to turn out that it was really the big bad the whole time. the way the ace attorney series has been written so far makes us set up to trust the members of the WAA. they get accused of murder (maya, phoenix, trucy) and the player knows that they didn’t do it, that they must be innocent. having 5-4 end with athena getting accused of murder and then having it actually turn out to be her as the culprit (or the phantom pretending to be her anyway) would’ve messed with the game formula in the same way that 2-4 messed with the player always assuming the client must be innocent and 4-1 subverted the tutorial case status quo of revealing the killer at the start and by having the first witness not be the killer
and then real athena cykes is brought in at the climax to testify and the truth comes out about the UR-1 incident and the rest of the game. after it’s all over phoenix invites her to join the WAA if she still wants to. aa6 still happens basically the same, except her seeming like a beginner again in 6-4 actually makes sense. athena can take the spotlight in aa7 and come into her own as a lawyer. we’d get a game of her dealing w what happened when she was younger w her mother, and what happened when the phantom kidnapped her. she’d gain confidence in her own abilities and become a kickass lawyer in her own right instead of the comic relief side lawyer they wrote her as in aa6
(aa5 is my least favourite game in the series, and it makes me sad that i dislike it bc it had so much potential. it could’ve been amazing? but instead we got a game of weird writing choices and too many new characters we weren’t really given a reason to care about)
i’ve only played dd all the way through once so excuse me vagueing my way through the exact story details
so 5-1 and 5-2 play out the same way. i don’t really have an explanation for why the phantom would be faking being athena in her inner monologue but w/e, we’ll just chalk it up to story and gameplay segregation or something
apollo has never met athena before so he has no reason to suspect anything is wrong w her in 5-2 when they first meet
5-3 is where the player starts to wonder if there’s something athena is hiding
juniper was her best friend, even if they haven’t seen each other in years, so maybe phantom!athena makes a comment about a childhood memory but gets a detail wrong and juniper is like ‘oh that’s not how i remember it’ but brushes it off
widget doesn’t always match what emotion athena’s feeling in dd, so what if this is b/c widget can sense something is wrong bc this isn’t the real athena
it would be interesting to replay this after the ~reveal~ and spot the points where something is obviously wrong
the phantom gets juniper declared innocent bc she’s playing the long game and what better way to convince everyone she’s really athena
apollo spends the whole game increasingly feeling like there’s something...off about athena
his abilities keep trying to tell him she’s lying but he can’t tell what about b/c i mean why would he suspect she’s a fake
it comes to a head in 5-4 after clay’s murder, so he puts the eye patch on etc
when phoenix runs into juniper at the space station, she mentions about how something seems weird about athena and her being...different from how juniper remembers her but she can’t quite put her finger on what’s wrong
phantom!athena swearing she hasn’t met clay before, b/c she’s not the real athena so she has no idea if they ever met or not
the trial still has the wham moment of realising who the phantom is (in the game it’s aura’s line about the detective telling her to lower the ladder but it would be slightly different here) except it’s an even bigger wham bc it’s this character you’ve spent the whole game getting to know
phoenix’s inner monologue guilt over not realising that the real athena was in danger or that anything was wrong
when blackquill is cleared and gets to be the case prosecutor, edgeworth leaves to go gather evidence on the phantom or w/e
fulbright is the red herring in the game, blackquill suspects him as the phantom so he’s blindsided by the athena reveal
phantom!athena is on the stand while edgeworth’s team ends up coming across the real athena where she’s being held
this leads to the classic ace attorney moment of someone (edgeworth) dramatically bursting into the courtroom
with him he has the real athena
she testifies and helps out the defense, phoenix and apollo are determined to help her and clear her name even if technically they don’t know her bc they’ve spent the last few months thinking they were getting to know athena cykes
also i have this mental image of athena’s sprite but she’s huddled in edgeworth’s big coat
it comes down to the thing w/ the moon rock earring, except the phantom thinks she’s won bc she knows her earring is a fake. the real athena has the actual earring though and she gives it to phoenix to present as evidence
the obligatory scene in the court lobby after the trial has them talking w the real athena
phoenix apologising for not realising she was in danger
athena thanking him and apollo for fighting her corner anyway
apollo is awkward w her b/c someone w her face killed clay but the real athena is innocent of any of that and also just helped save their asses in court and get justice for clay
phoenix offers her a place at the WAA if she still wants it
trucy helps persuade her to stay (‘i need a good assistant for my magic show’ and telling her they need more girls around the office)
the post credits scene is a few months later on a typical day in the WAA after athena has found her feet and she fits right in
the dlc for dd is the same except it’s set after the game and it involves phoenix as the defense and then athena is the assistant and it’s phoenix bonding w the real athena and being a total dad to her
aa6 happens pretty much the same
maybe we get a bit of insight into how athena is coping w everything that happened
when she and apollo investigate together in 6-2 it’s nice b/c they’re slowly bonding and become close friends after everything that the phantom!athena did in aa5
when they go down to the part of the theatre under the stage, maybe athena freaks out bc it reminds her of where the phantom held her and she tries to put on a brave face but apollo sees through it and helps comfort her and calm her
she then does the same for him when they go up high and he’s terrified of heights
the entire case is a nice bonding moment for them while they work together to save trucy
she really admires apollo as a lawyer and he’s really come to value her as a friend
apollo’s inner monologue when he looks over at athena is just him thinking about how strong she is and what a great lawyer she’s gonna be
her helping save the office really helps her feel like part of the family
athena regressing as a lawyer and seeming like a beginner again in 6-4 actually makes sense
it’s one of her first cases as lead
and her first case w out either phoenix or apollo
apollo tells her he believes in her as trucy drags him off to be her assistant
athena has a shaky beginning but ends up getting the correct verdict and helping her client
blackquill is pretty shitty to her in that case w how rough he is w her, but maybe in his mind he feels super guilty about not realising phantom!athena wasn’t the real athena, and while the real athena now tries to bond w him he tries to distance himself from her so she won’t be in danger again bc of him
this is something that can be brought up to deal w in aa7 aka athena cykes: ace attoney, they can find a balance where he still gets to be her protective big brother figure but she also makes it clear to him that she’s a perfectly capable adult and doesn’t need to be coddled
phoenix insisting athena isn’t allowed to be in the courtroom in khura’in in 6-5 is b/c he doesn’t want to put her in danger again
she’s kind of put out but she understands this is apollo’s fight
apollo still leaves at the end of the game, meaning athena gets to step into the spotlight
we lead into athena cykes: ace attorney
she’s getting more responsibility at the agency which is good but she still feels kind of lost bc yeah she got justice for her mother and she helped blackquill (which was her reason for becoming a lawyer) but she did it from the sidelines mostly
she gets to bond w other characters by having a different assistant each case (trucy, ema, phoenix, blackquill, etc.) (maybe even klavier who just keeps moping about missing apollo)
phoenix is busy w something else for a lot of the game (jurist system stuff?? fixing the law system again?? who knows) and so athena is the agency’s main lawyer for day to day stuff
let athena meet gumshoe please
athena and edgeworth bonding
a new female prosecutor who athena has a great dynamic with
bring back franziska too and phoenix is kind of put out that franziska immediately takes a liking to athena
we get to see athena grow through her own pov
the final case of the game is apollo coming home and literally getting accused of murder the second he gets off the plane
optional sibling reveal tie in during this case where athena has to figure out how to break it to apollo
athena doesn’t think she can handle defending her friend yet and so hands the case to phoenix at the start
she’s the co-counsel for the first trial day but then things happen and she has to take over as the main lawyer
she figures out the culprit and unmasks the big bad of the game on her own, helping apollo and getting him declared innocent
she’s in a much more confident place than she was at the start of the game
apollo tells her he wasn’t worried bc he knew he was safe in her hands
basically phoenix is still important to the new trilogy (aa5/aa6/aa7) but the overarching story isn’t his, it’s athena’s
this signifies that phoenix has moved onto a mentor role, and the baton has been passed to the second generation of the WAA
capcom please hire me i have a lot of thoughts

The thoughts of a long time Ace Attorney fan
Alright, so this is going to be more or less of me rambling about ny experiences and opinions on the Ace Attorney series. It's going to be pretty long. Also this is going to include spoiler for Duel Destinies and Apollo Justice. I used to be a MASSIVE fan of the Ace Attorney series. These games are still among my favorite games of all time. I played the first game less than four years ago, yet it's one of the most nostalgic games I can remember. Even though I've played games that are without a doubt superior (such as Witcher 3), I didn't feel the same love for it that I felt for the Ace Attorney games. Although, as time went on, I became less and less interested in the franchise. I'm not sure whether it was the quality of the games changing or just my personal tastes changing. Earlier today, however, I discovered that there was an anime adaptation of the first two games. Feeling bored, I watched the first episode. And holy shit, the memories all came flooding back. Looking back at the memories now, I can sort of understand why I felt the way I did about the series and why I eventually began to lose interest. I absolutely adored the first three games. Years later, as a Sophmore, I still feel the same way. The first game was the first adventure game I ever played and it really showed me what games could be. The most story heavy game I had played before then was Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness (I still don't know how the game ended. I could never beat the final boss). I remember downloading the game on the ipod touch not really knowing what to expect. As a 12 year old, the game blew my mind. I loved having to use your wits to solve cases. I loved the characters. I loved the story. I loved getting to collect evidence. Looking back at the game as a (somewhat) more mature teenager, I can see that it has its flaws (The Investigation segments got tedious sometimes), but I still love it regardless. A couple months later, I discovered that Capcom put the entire trilogy on the app store. I got both games. I felt guilty for not asking my parents' permission before buying something, but at the same time I didn't want my dad finding out his son was playing an anime game about lawyers. Anyways, I loved Justice for All and Trials and Tribulations. I thought T&T was even better than the first game. Even though I thought JFA was great, I didn't enjoy it as much as the first game. A couple months later, I found out about Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney. I convinced my parents to let me order it on Amazon. I feel a lot more mixed about this entry. On one hand, I loved a lot of the characters. I found Apollo, Trucy, and Klavier to be very endearing characters. The cases felt pretty solid (Except for the 3rd one). I liked how they brought Ema Skye back. On the other hand I really didn't enjoy the overarching story. I definitely liked parts of it (such as doing the investigation with the MASON system), but I thought that overall, it was confusing. The ending felt incredibly unsatisfying. I thought that the ending of the fourth case only served to make sense of a confusing story. And while I liked the concept of seeing Phoenix as a completely different person seven years later, but I thought that they could have handled it better. What also really bugged me was the absense of characters from the original games. Where was Maya, Edgeworth, and Pearl when Phoenix was going through this difficult time in his life? All in all, I'd say that I overall enjoyed Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, but it lacks a lot of what made the original games so great. Now we come to Duel Destinies. I'm just gonna go ahead and say it: I think that this is the worst game in the series. I realize that this is an unpopular opinion (pretty much everyone I talked to adores it), but just hear me out. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Duel Destinies, I just find it mediocre. I'll start with what I liked about the game. I found the overall story to be very strong. I thought that a lot of the individual cases were very great (Strangely enough, I thought that the 3rd case was the best this time around). It was great seeing Edgeworth back. I thought Blackquill was a good rival. I really liked how Capcom gave Apollo character development. Now let's talk about the things I dislike about the game. I thought that game was too cartoonish. I understand that all the games in the series are over the top, but I feel like DD takes it too far. I also thought that the 3D models looked off (for lack of a better word). I had a lot of problems with Athena. She was likeable for the most part, but she didn't feel nearly as endearing as Phoenix, Apollo, Edgeworth, Trucy, and Maya. I also found Fulbright to be annoying. I get that they were trying to make him humorous, but half the time I just wanted him to shut up. I couldn't take the game's antagonist seriously whatsoever. I feel that he's probably the best example of the game being too cartoonish for it's own good. Regardless, I still LIKE Duel Destinies, but I think that it's what killed the series for me. So all in all, the series has (in my eyes) gone downhill since Trials and Tribulations. And while I still like the recent games, but they can't seem to recapture the same charm that the original trilogy had. I haven't played either Spirit of Justice (although I've heard good things) or the Investigations games (I know that Gumshoe's a major character in the series, so it's nice to know that Capcom didn't entirely forget about the characters from the original trilogy. However, regardless of whichever direction Capcom takes the series, it will still hold a special place in my mind. Holy shit, I need a glass of water after writing all that.
