So I finally looked into the Verbalese Hazbin Hotel thing and bro I am severely uncomfortable💀💀💀
The existence of this isn’t really what makes me uncomfortable but the fact Charlie straight up harasses him, like that shit did not look consenting.

qsmp has accidentally stumbled into a psychology experiment that would make the stanford prison experiment sob in fear. they’ve gotten a bunch of cc’s, and tens of thousands of viewers, to be deeply emotionally connected to pixel eggs. in doing so they’ve presented a problem:
how the fuck do you get outta this
the eggs were obviously never intended to be permanent (logging on every day to do tasks isn’t feasible to upkeep forever) and they were even given a vague limit of When Mama Dragon Comes Back (and then, of course, the “6 days til they die” thing). now you’ve made it so quackity (and his team) have a big ol dilemma, where two things are true: 1) they can’t keep the eggs forever since it’s not sustainable 2) you can’t take away the eggs without, oopsies, emotionally damaging your friends that you invited to have fun on your server.
turns out, when you give a group of humans all their own fully-realized individual who presents as a (weak, vulnerable) child that is in need of care from them, whatever instinct has kept us alive for generations goes “!!!!!” which is both really cool and compassionate, but also kinda concerning!
because, well: not sustainable! and if the eggs aren’t sustainable, what’s the alternative? killing them?? no! just look at jaiden’s reaction to bobby “losing” a life, even when it wasn’t his last one. or bad’s genuinely heart wrenching reaction to dapper losing a life. or how quiet and angry phil got after chayanne and tallulah had a “nightmare,” before it was resolved. that’s not acting. that’s real. what the hell will they do if the eggs actually die? from what i see, the cc’s are taking the “6 days til death” thing as something that’s avoidable. a threat that can be overcome. and for their sake, i hope it is.
ever played a dnd game where you actually feel insulted bc of smth someone’s pc did? yeah. that x20 because there’s SO much overlap between “streamer persona” and “literally just who they are”. and this level of roleplay character bleeding is cool, but i hope the eggs are handled carefully, or all those involved might end up actually hurt.
there’s also the whole added element of fans, many of whom only tune into the streams for egg content. the plot is very egg-centric. the roleplaying and characterization that the cc’s are doing is all centered around the eggs in one way or another. it’s been going on for a month, but it does not feel at all resolved, and plot-wise it would completely mess up so many plot threads happening if the eggs were all to go (charlie’s unresolved deal with lil j, quackity’s goal to bond with tallulah, the trial, etc etc) so if you take away the eggs, you risk messing up the whole vibe they’ve got going on, and facing backlash from fans who are also emotionally compromised by pixel eggs
we inherently want to protect the cute and vulnerable, and by god are these eggs cute and so very fragile. (then, there’s another layer of people’s own issues that they project onto the eggs. be it desire for paternity, some kind of maternal instinct, or, even in the matter of chayanne, using chayanne as a sort of way to cope with loss by making connections between chayanne and technoblade. which is beautiful and very sweet but would give chayanne dying some additional emotionally charged elements which i think should be avoided at all costs). there’s a reason that movies and other media generally do not kill named children characters—audiences really hate it. it’s taboo for good reason.
which leads us to
schrodinger’s egg: until sunday, they r both alive and dead. and this is both good and bad. god help us all

Percy Jackson Fancast
Since the AMAZING Walker Scobell got casted as Percy in the new series, here's who I've fancasted as the rest of the characters. Some of them will have two choices because I'm indecisive. And no, I'm not completely going off of character descriptions, this is just who I can picture playing the characters well.
Annabeth
Mia Talerico or Liamani Segura
Tumblr media
We all know and love Mia from Good Luck Charlie. She's done smaller projects since then. Description wise she matches Annabeth perfectly, she's the right age, and I'd LOVE to see her back on screen acting in something that will really put her in the spotlight. Liamani hasn't really acted, though she will be on the upcoming season of High School Musical the Musical the Series, but she has gone viral a few times for her singing. She has so much sass and confidence that matches Annabeth so much that I think she could play the role really well as well.
Grover
Noah Jupe or Asante Blackk
Tumblr media
Both have such kind faces and know how to play scared/worried extremely well. I think they'd both be able to play a skittish/anxious Grover really well. And before I hear anything about them being older, in the first book Percy says that he believes Grover got held back a couple of times because he looks older and was already growing facial hair. Both look young enough that they could pass for early teens
Luke
Matt Cornett
Tumblr media
Matt is extremely good at playing friendly and charming friend, but also mischievous jerk. His role in High School Musical the Musical the Series shows that. I think he's the perfect embodiment of Luke.
Sally Jackson
Melissa Ponzio
Tumblr media
There's literally no other option for me. She's played a mom on so many projects, and this needs to be another one.
Chiron
Idris Elba
Tumblr media
I know it's a long shot, but imagine Idris with dreads as Chiron? And his deep accent? He'd literally be so PERFECT!
Ares
Cheyenne Jackson
Tumblr media
He plays smug/mischievous/evil so God damn well. Don't believe me? Go watch Julie and the Phantoms or Descendants 3. He'd be a PERFECT Ares
Hades
Johnny Depp
Tumblr media
Long haired Johnny SCREAMS Hades to me, and you know he'd act tf outta that role. Also JUSTICE FOR JOHNNY DEPP
Poseidon
Logan Lerman or Andrew Garfield
Tumblr media
I would love to see Logan come back as Poseidon, talk about right person wrong time. He'd definitely bring justice to the character. But he is a bit younger than I imagine Poseidon to look. Bearded Andrew Garfield on the other hand.....just give him some blue eyes and he screams Poseidon for me.
Zeus
Bradley Cooper
Tumblr media
I mean c'mon, this picture alone just screams Zeus to me. And he's an amazing actor, he'd play the character so damn well

Just wanna tell y’all... Julie and the Phantoms is freaking dope (SPOILERS AND LONG POST)
And here’s my thoughts and a few things I’m hoping for S2 (since they gotta, amirite?)
The whole Julie can touch the phantoms thing in the last episode better be legit and not change, which means I can more confidently and more peacefully ship Julie with Luke, since the fact that he’s a ghost and therefore doesn’t exist on the mortal plain really puts a wrench in my plans to squee over them...
this also opens up the potential that they’re gonna bend the rules of the universe even more and have the lads basically come back to life? Idk if that’s what they’re gonna do but if they have the goddamn nerve to make a series where you are basically COMPELLED to ship a “lifer” and a ghost boy, then DONT send them to the afterlife straight away, AND THEN ALLOW THE LIFER TO BE ABLE TO PHYSICALLY TOUCH THE GHOST BOI, then they better hit that reverse Uno and make these boyos alive again!!
I was goddamn waiting for their hands to magically connect at some point bc of their intense chemistry and connection AND THEN THEY WENT THE EXTRA MILE AND FRIGGEN HAD THEM HUG WITH ESSENTIALLY NO REACTION FROM ANYONE?!?! I just about died bc hoo boi when they were singing they were literally:
Tumblr media
The goddamn INTIMACY (he really just couldnt help himself at the end there and swooped in before he disappeared to sing in perfect harmony while gazing romantically into each other’s eyes)
Like ok Julie “gotta stop making eye contact with him during performances bc I can’t be falling for a ghost boi but also I’m just naturally drawn to him” Molina and Luke “yeah ok I have chemistry with everyone I sing with but it also makes me sad when Julie isn’t singing with me and sharing the mic and looking directly into my eyes” Phantom!!!
“It sure is interesting, this little relationship we have” or whatever tf the line was idk it was fuckign CUTE
That said I would also not be opposed to my lil bi boi Reggie and Luke! (he’s not totally straight, i was reading this correct bc we got that scene where Luke serenaded the crap outta him!) and Julie and Flynn (bc Julie also serenaded the crap outta her)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Uh obvi for Willie and Alex to kiss. They hugged, and I am goddamn delighted we have a canon gay ship to sail but uh... maybe some handholding and a build up to a cute ass kiss... Boo Boo I wasn’t expecting you to be here but I am GLAD
Tumblr media
Reggie’s one sided friendship with Ray (Julie’s dad) is my everything and I hope they one day get to meet bc I want my boi to be happy
Tumblr media
The deal with Trevor/Bobby?? Whatever he does will definitely impact Carrie’s relationship with Julie... though I do like that Carrie isn’t completely one dimensional... we see hints of something more about her here and there... the convo about how she earned her spot in the music program as opposed to a general “I’m better than Julie” situation... and she did seem to recognise how much Julie had changed in taking that stage alone and had overcome at least her some of her confidence issues... idk if I’m down with the “Dirty Candy” or whatever her name is...
I see the actor who plays Nick is gonna have more to his character than kinda cute crush that missed his chance bc Julie fell for a ghost boi... so that’s nice
Cheyenne Jackson did not hold back as always and I appreciate him for it... his performances were spectacular... though I do wish we’d seen the moment where the bois broke free but the more important climactic moment was them showing up for Julie
I didn’t pay attention in the first couple eps bc I had uni work to do and my sis was the one who started watching so idk what the brother and the tia’s deals are but I do hope to see more fun stuff from them!
That scene. Unsaid Emily. Tears. Heartbreak. I was not ready. Charlie Gillespie’s acting was goddamn on point and there is no shortage of feels in this show that deals with the loss of loved ones, dreams and regrets so friggen WELL
I lost my train of thought but yeah! GO WATCH JULIE AND THE PHANTOMS. ITS FREAKING FUN THE MUSIC IS GREAT, GOT A WOC LEAD AND WOC BEST FRIEND, A (at least half?) HISPANIC/LATINO MAIN FAMILY, ONE OF THE MALE LEADS IS CANONICALLY GAY AND HAS A MALE LOVE INTEREST AND ITS NOT HIS PRIMARY DEFINING FEATURE BC THE DUDE HAS EPIC SKATER BOI HAIR (which helps bc he’s into a skater boi)... A POTENTIALLY BI OTHER MALE LEAD (purely my own speculation based on one scene in particular - y’all know the one) AND THE OTHER ONE IS YOUR TYPICAL SOFT BOI HOTTIE WITH EYES FULL OF HEARTBREAK! But like they all look friggen good... the dad too. Idk where he’s from but I feel like I know him from somewhere he is a fine looking pops...
Anyway that’s enough now. Go watch it and get us a season 2!!!

Top 10 favorite things about TFS?
Bold of you to assume I can narrow it down to just 10 things, but I’ll try my best.
Here’s a list of things I LOVE about The Final Season of TWDG, starting from #10 and working my way down to #1.
10. Rosie is best girl and doesn’t die
Listen, okay? If you give me a game with a doggo companion that I bond with only to have said doggo die for dramatic effect... you automatically lose 2 outta 5 stars on your rating. Case in point: Season 2.
However, tfs knew not to kill Rosie off for dramatic effect, knew it’d be cheap. Plus, Rosie is a sweetheart and I love that she helps Clementine come to terms with her past trauma with dogs and genuinely bonds with her. Rosie is best girl.
9. Over the shoulder camera/controls
They’re the best of the series, having come a LONG way since S1. Like, look... Don’t get me wrong. S1 isn’t unplayable or anything, far from it, but they’re not the greatest either. They’re pretty wonky at times, the fixed camera can get annoying when you’re moving around, and sometimes button presses don’t register. It’s definitely something I have to get used to whenever I go back and replay the entire series, and like I said, it’s not the worst controls in the world... but oh man, compared to TFS?
Have you ever played S1 and then jumped straight into TFS just to get a direct comparison of the two? Because I have and it’s jarring how much smoother, accurate, and overall better everything is in TFS.
Just... props, guys. Thank you for the over-the-shoulder, movable camera, thank you for the polished button prompts, and thank you for a run button that has Clementine go into a nice jog rather than a comical run or, eh... does nothing [lookin’ at you ANF... Javi slow].
It’s just so effortless to play. The most trouble I ever have is with doors but that’s a given- Doors make no goddamn sense in this series and I’ve given up trying to learn their secrets. Oh, and speaking of more improvements!
The shooting mechanic in this game is leaps better than in S1. Y’all remember the Motor-Inn shootout? The one that was such a frustrating pain in the ass?? So much death and anger...
I still die sometimes when shooting the walkers with the bow, especially the ones that are on fire, but it’s nothing compared to the shooting mechanic in S1, so the biggest THANK YOU for that one. It’s actually enjoyable to shoot stuff this time around.
8. Collectibles
You as Clementine get to pick up various collectibles to decorate her and AJ’s dorm with and it’s great. One of my favorite bits about this game is seeing Clementine wake up in this empty, lifeless room, and see it get brighter and brighter with every collectible you place throughout the game until you reach the final scene with AJ where the room is just FULL of life and personality. Like... it’s officially theirs. It’s such a good feeling!
And the devs totally didn’t have to add the collectible system in, but I’m so thankful they did. I’m one of those people who gets every single collectible every single time I play.
7. Ericson’s Boarding School for Troubled Youth
Y’know, I honestly can’t think of a better place for Clementine and AJ to end up than Ericson’s Boarding School for Troubled Youth. It’s awesome, I love it, what a great idea. I also love the sense of wonder when we step outside for the first time and see the inside of Ericson, as well as the others, walking around. Like even Clementine is taken back by it.
Because of course it makes sense for Clementine to end up in a school surrounded by people closer to her age rather than with a group of dumbass adults like in the past three games.
Here it feels like they’re all about on the same level. There’s no older person here belittling Clementine because “she’s just a child and doesn’t get it,” they’re just people, y’know? Hell, if anything, Clementine’s now the most experienced one!
The school’s great! I wouldn’t change a thing about TFS taking place here. The environments are beautiful and I love exploring the world.
6. Marlon as an antagonistic character/final confrontation
I have an entire Marlon character discussion/study so I won’t put too much time into this one, but I will say that I love Marlon’s part in tfs. I love him as a surprise antagonistic character, I love how chill he is in the beginning, I love the final confrontation at the end of ep1... I just really like Marlon, y’know?
Ray Chase gives a damn near perfect performance as Marlon, so much so that I wish he survived past ep1 just so that I could hear more of his acting. Marlon himself in an interesting look at a leader character hiding his shame and guilt while trying to maintain control over everyone [including himself] around him, only to be broken down when he’s found out.
5. James
I know people tend to be pretty split on James, but I personally really like his role in tfs. I love that they included a character who was apart of the Whisperers, and hell, if anything I’d like to know MORE about James’ past with them.
I just find him and his whole “walkers are sort of people? kinda?” beliefs. Again, I know some people get annoyed with him because of his beliefs but I think he adds an interesting spin on the whole thing, y’know? Though I do love what a bitch he is if you don’t agree with him hahaha
James is a bitch and I love him, okay? I love his dumb walker mask, I love his dumb boyband hair, I love his whispery voice, and I love his backstory with the Whisperers and Charlie. I love this he’s trying so hard to be this pacifist that he ends up doing the literal thing he said he doesn’t want to do-- hurt people. Y’know... like attempting to kidnap AJ and threatening to break Clementine’s leg in the caves if he’s alive.
Which, by the way, that whole cave scene is a thing. It’s wild and I love it but not for the reasons the devs probably wanted. Like... it’s a little hilarious? I know it’s not supposed to be! But I can’t take James seriously when he’s walkin’ around his hands on his hips all huffy and puffy, okay? It’s just wild.
Anyway, I love James and wouldn’t get rid of him. Hell, I’m still waiting for my James with the Whisperers mini-series, Skybound.
4. Ericson Crew
There isn’t a single character from Ericson that I don’t like, or that I’d get rid of, which is rare with these games. Thinking back to the previous games, there’s always at least one person I could do without or that I didn’t like. I adore all of them!
The Ericson crew just feels closer than previous groups. For starters, they’re way more likable than most in our previous groups. Even when there’s tension [and boy is there tension at points] you still get the sense that they don’t hate each other, unlike in our previous groups. They do in fact love each other as a family and will do what they can to protect one another.
Plus, they’re all interesting. They’re troubled youth and I love all of them!
Aasim keeps a daily journal where he chronicles everything in hopes of learning from past mistakes to prevent future ones, he’s damn good with a bow, and he’s got a neat little soul patch on his chin.
Ruby is the tiny yet fiery medic of the group who adamantly believes in manners yet used to chase teachers around with pitchforks.
Brody is caught up in the twin mess with Marlon but she’s also shown to want an escape, a road trip where she and her friends can go see the beach, but she also suffers with anxiety and panic attacks and isn’t afraid to knock Marlon on his ass or swear at Clementine.
Mitch is a grumpy, tall boy who looks after Willy like a brother, knows how to make bombs out of manure and propane, and used to fight his neighbors because they didn’t like his face.
Omar is a sassy chef who has to have every ingredient just right otherwise he’s salty for a week and he can take a bullet to the leg like a champ.
Willy’s a goober who can climb trees like you wouldn’t believe and he made a bomb of his own in Mitch’s honor that completely wrecked the delta’s ship.
Tenn is a soft, naïve boy who draws and reads but isn’t afraid to stab a walker bitch if he has to.
Violet was sent to the school after witnessing her grandmother’s dead, she used to date Minerva who is now “dead,” has abandonment issues,  tries to give off the appearance of a grumpy grump but like once she’s comfortable with you she’ll tell you her life story and do romantic shit like dancing and painting you a pin.
Louis was sent to Ericson because he was a rich brat who broke up his parents marriage because they wouldn’t let him take singing lessons and has felt like garbage ever since, using humor to cope and push people away, and keeps the façade on until someone’s willing to see past it in which he’ll finally bare his soul to you, name a song he wrote after you, and do everything in his power to keep you and everyone else safe over himself.
I just... Love ‘em all.
3. Clementine and AJ’s dynamic
To think that they almost killed AJ off, or kept him a minor character. That would’ve been a shame and an absolute waste because Clementine and AJ’s dynamic is super fucking good in tfs.
It’s actually a little baffling that AJ’s as good as he is, from his writing to his voice acting, he’s just great. And his relationship with Clementine is definitely one of my favorites to come from this game. It’s not perfect, but I don’t want perfect.
I love that AJ looks to Clem for guidance and I love the way our choices affect him, even when it’s a case of the bridge scene. Hate the bridge scene knowing that I gotta sacrifice a character I care about for another I love, but I can’t deny that I love how that choice is made. After everything, do you trust AJ or not?
Plus, their conversations are so well done, their chemistry is through the roof, and I wouldn’t change it.
Oh, and the barn scene? Gets me every time, even though I already know everything’s fine and gonna work out. Still gets me.
2. Clementine is Bisexual
I’ve talked about this in the past, but lemme just say that I love the fact that Clementine is canonically bisexual.
Doesn’t matter if you’re dating Louis, Violet, or no one, Clementine is still bisexual. The game confirms it through it’s text/subtext and Clementine’s actions that we don’t have control over, and the devs confirmed it. She ain’t straight, she ain’t a lesbian, she is bisexual.
I can’t express how happy that makes me. Just... 💗💜💙
And with her being bisexual comes her two great love interests: Louis and Violet. They’re amazing, and such an improvement over the previous game’s attempt at love interests... ahem, y’know... Kate.
1. Louis as a character/his relationship with Clementine
I mean... c’mon. Y’all knew what #1 was gonna be. Do I even need to explain? This entire blog is just me gushing about Louis/clouis.
Look, Louis is my favorite non-playable character across the entire series. Hell, even when you factor in playable characters, he’s STILL my absolute favorite. Like, even outside of his relationship with Clementine, I find him to be such a compelling character by himself.
Like I mentioned above, he came from a stupid rich family who gave him everything he ever wanted, but when his father wouldn’t let him take singing lessons, he literally worked for over a year to break up his parents marriage because “you get to be happy or you get to be rich, can’t be both.”
He gets sent to Ericson where the apocalypse happens, he never gets to make up with his parents, and he ends up using jokes and piano as a coping mechanism to deal with everything, falls into a cycle of being unreliable and the butt of the joke, and lives one day at a time without much thought for the future.
He puts on the happy jokester persona to push people away from knowing the real him and rarely shares much about himself. Hell, when Clementine does hunting and decides to take care of the walker with him, he actually does let down the wall for a minute to share his view on “this moment” before looking away like “Oof, shared too much-- HEY, GO CHECK ON AASIM :D I’LL BE OVER HERE :D FIXING THE TRAP :D and adjusting the wall ahem--”
It’s so interesting because you’d think that he’d be more open about his past with Marlon or the twins or whatever [like Violet is] but no, he doesn’t tell you shit about his past until EPISODE 3 and you have to work to get that story.
I just... I just love him. Could talk about and analyze his character for hours. And I love his relationship with Clementine. It’s just so good. The piano scene where they finally admit their feelings for one another?? That shit has my entire heart. Their entire relationship is my favorite. What else is there to say?

Destiel: Season 7 - A catalog of Supernatural episodes
A catalog of each episode in Supernatural that features scenes related to Destiel. This includes scenes between Dean and Castiel, scenes with other characters that address their relationship with each other, and scenes that allude to Dean’s bisexuality.
Season 7 Summary Analysis
Despite having felt betrayed by his actions in season 6, Dean is devastated by Castiel’s death, spiraling into depression and becoming self-destructive. When Cas returns, Dean is happy he’s alive, but also still upset about Castiel’s previous manipulation and betrayal. Cas takes on Sam’s burden of mental instability to atone for his mistakes, and he avoids conflict out of fear of messing up again. Cas is only able to come out of his funk when Dean tells him he forgives him and still believes in him.
My interpretation: Castiel’s betrayal hits Dean harder than anyone else because Dean trusted him more than he’s trusted anyone else in his life. He feels lost when Cas dies, not knowing who to trust. Dean is able to fully forgive Cas after he saves Sam, and still values his help even though he’s gone a bit wonky. Cas feels utterly appalled at himself for the cataclysmic mistakes he’s made. He reverts to a childlike state in order to cope with the knowledge that he has caused intense suffering. He feels connected to Meg because she is one of the few people with a level of darkness in her comparable to the one he feels within himself. Dean is the only person who can talk Cas into getting back into the fight because he trusts Dean’s judgement above his own—if Dean believes in him, then he can allow himself to believe in himself.
7.01 Meet the New Boss
The Purgatory souls have completely scrambled Castiel’s brain. He turns away from free will ideals and becomes a tyrant, killing many angels and doing lots of damage on Earth. Dean has given up on Cas: “Cas is never coming back. He’s lied to us, he used us, he cracked your gourd like it was nothing. No more talk. We have spent enough on him.”
After his vessel starts falling apart, Cas asks for help returning the souls and feels ashamed: “I feel regret about you and what I did to Sam. If there was time, if I was strong enough, I’d fix him now. I just wanted to make amends before I die.” “Okay.” “Is it working?” “Does it make you feel better?” “No. You?” “Not a bit.”
When Cas falls unconscious after Purgatory has opened, Dean is still concerned for his welfare and upset that he’s (apparently) dead: “Cas, you child. Why didn’t you listen to me?”
Cas desperately wants to redeem himself: “I’ll find some way to redeem myself to you.” “Alright, well, one thing at a time. Come on, let’s get you outta her.” “I mean it, Dean.” “Okay. Alright, but let’s go find Sam, okay?”
7.02 Hello, Cruel World
Dean is devastated when Cas (apparently) dies, and he keeps his trench coat that has washed up on the shore: “Dumb son of a bitch.”
Bobby recognizes the extent of Dean’s loss: “Just lost one of the best friends you ever had, your brother’s in the bell jar, and Purgatory’s most wanted are surfin’ the sewer lines, but yeah, I get it. Right. You’re fine.”
7.07 The Mentalists
Sam calls Dean out for pretending he’s fine when he’s not: “You can’t just look me in the face and tell me you’re fine. I mean, you’re not sleeping, you drink for the record... Just be honest with me, how are those the actions of someone who knows they did the right thing? [in reference to killing Amy]” “I went with my gut, and that felt right. I didn’t trust her, Sam. Of course, ever since Cas, I’m having a hard time trusting anybody. And as far as how I’ve been acting, I don’t know. Maybe it’s ‘cause I don’t like lying to you. You know, it doesn’t feel right. So yeah, you got me there. I been climbing the walls.”
7.09 How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters
Sam talks about Dean‘s struggle with Bobby: “So you don’t worry about him? ...Ever since my head broke, and we lost Cas. I mean, you feel like he’s going through the same motions but he’s not the same Dean, you know?”
Bobby calls Dean out for his despondent behavior: “I’ve seen a lot of hunters live and die. You’re starting to talk like one of the dead ones, Dean.” “No, I’m talking the way a person talks when they’ve had it, when they can’t figure out why they used to think all this mattered.”
7.12 Time After Time
Sam makes a joke about Dean’s sexuality: “Are you gonna look at more anime, or are you strictly into Dick now?”
7.13 The Slice Girls
Sam observes Dean’s distracted behavior again: “You know what? Bobby was right. Your head’s not in it, man. When Cas died, you were wobbly, but now... Look, Dean, the thing is, tonight it almost got you killed. Now I don’t care how you deal. I really, really don’t. But just don’t get killed.”
7.17 The Born-Again Identity
Dean is dumb-founded when he sees that Cas is alive. Even though Cas has no memory of what happened, Dean talks about it with him: “You know, I used to be able to just shake this stuff off. You know, whatever it was, it might take me some time, but I always could. What Cas did, I just can’t. I don’t know why.”
Dean looks uncomfortable when Meg flirts with the amnesiac Cas.
Dean encourages Cas to use his powers: “It’s in there. I’m sure it’s just like riding a bike.”
When Castiel’s memory returns, he feels ashamed for what he did. He tries to run off, but Dean stops him: “If you remember, then you know you did the best you could at the time.” “Don’t defend me. Do you have any idea the death toll in heaven? On Earth? We didn’t part friends, Dean.” “So, what?” “I deserved to die. Now I can’t possibly fix it, so why did I even walk out of that river?” “Maybe TO fix it.”
Dean is able to convince Cas to stay and help after he pulls his trench coat out of the trunk of his car.
To atone for what he did to Sam, Cas shifts Sam’s broken mental state into himself.
7.20 The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo
Dean walks Charlie through flirting with a man, and he tells Sam not to tell anyone about it: “It shows. You look amazing.” “You do anything else with your free time, like take a girl out for a drink?”
7.21 Reading is Fundamental
When Cas wakes up, Dean is happy to see him, but not sure how to handle his wackiness.
Cas exhibits fondness for Meg: “Will you look at her? My caretaker. All of that thorny pain. So beautiful.”
When Dean tries to talk to Cas about what he did, Cas makes him play a game of Sorry!: “We live in a ‘Sorry!’ universe. It’s engineered to create conflict. I mean, why should I prosper from your misfortune? But these are the rules. I didn’t make ‘em.” “You made some of ‘em. When you tried to become God, when you cut that hole into that wall.”
Dean is still furious with Cas: “Forget the game, Cas.” “I’m sorry, Dean.” “No. You’re playing sorry.”
When Dean yells at Cas, he gets upset. He explains that he doesn’t want to get involved: “No, I don’t fight anymore. I watch the bees.”
Dean expresses his frustration with Cas to Kevin: “The angels, they don’t care. I think maybe they just don’t have the equipment to care. It seems like when they try, it just breaks them apart.”
When Hester shows back up again, she mentions Castiel’s deep connection with Dean: “The very touch if you corrupts. When Castiel first laid a hand on you in hell, he was lost!”
Cas gives his blood for a spell: “Well, you know me. I’m always happy to bleed for the Winchesters.”
7.23 Survival of the Fittest
We learn that Cas apparently showed up naked on Dean’s car: “We can call Castiel again.” “Dude, on my car, he showed up naked, covered in bees.” “Yeah, I’m not really sorry I missed that.”
Meg complains about Cas to Dean: “Go ask him. He was your boyfriend first.”
Dean gets frustrated trying to communicate with Cas, who is still acting wonky, but he tries hard to be patient with him.
Cas makes sandwiches for the Winchesters made with uncontaminated food from out of the country: “Please, accept this sandwich as a gesture of solidarity.”
Cas still feels ashamed for what he did and is afraid of messing up again: “I can’t help. You understand? I can’t. I destroyed everything, and I will destroy everything again. Can we please just leave it at that?”
Dean loses his patience with Cas: “No, we can’t leave it. You let these freakin’ things in, so you don’t get to make a sandwich, you don’t get a damn cat, nobody cares that you’re broken, Cas! Clean up your mess!”
Dean convinces Cas to help by explaining that he still believes in him: “Bottom of the ninth, and you’re the only guy left on the bench... sorry, but I’d rather have you, cursed or not.” ... “Well, I don’t want to make you uncomfortable, but I detect a note of forgiveness.” “Yeah, well, we’re probably gonna die tomorrow, so...” “Well, I’ll go with you. And I’ll do my best.”

Event: Bon Bon Voyage
The party was going great, in Beppi’s opinion. Sure, there were lots of people he didn’t really know, and he reluctantly had turned down any booze that was offered, for Bonnie’s sake, but he was rather enjoying himself. Being with his friends made him feel like he wasn’t being forced to stay in a character.
Of course, the balloon always stayed somewhat close to Bonnie, wanting to make sure she didn’t feel unwelcomed or out of place, but he also did his best to make sure she didn’t feel like he was constantly breathing down her neck.
Yet as time went by, Beppi couldn’t help but notice Bonnie began to enjoy herself less and less. She looked uncomfortable. Like the novelty of the bash was starting to wear off. Bon Bon was feeling as if she’d been spending too much time away from her royal duties. Holiday or not, she was still Baroness, and she had important matters to take care of. The break was certainly nice, but she hadn’t expected this to last so long. Things weren’t getting done with her here, and she was growing anxious about it. Not to mention how her feet were hurting her now...But Beppi seemed so excited to have her here.
Beppi caught her gaze and waltzed up to her with a smile.  “You worn out?” Bonnie cracked a small smile of her own, shaking her head slightly as she chuckled. “Is it that obvious?” Beppi placed a firm hand on her shoulder. “C’mon. I’ll walk ya home.” “Oh, no, it’s fine, I can just call a carriage.” She assured. “Nonsense!” Beppi waved. “It ain’t that far, just a short walking dead!”  “Ughh. Really?” The groan earned a giggle out of Beppi. Although, Bonnie could tell by the look on Beppi’s face that the offer was genuine. Beppi knew that he and Bonnie never got the chance to talk just between the two of them, so he figured now would be as good a time as any to do so. Besides, everyone was here anyway, so what’s the worse that could happen?
Bonnie nodded and accepted his offer. “Alright. If you’re certain.” “Great! I’ll let Djimmi know.” Bepp turned around, only to find the ex-genie dressed as a mummy, singing karaoke to Mysterious Mose on the stage. Beppi really didn’t want to wait for the end of the song just to tell Djimmi where he was going, and that he’d be back. He made a few hand gestures, but Beppi had the feeling Djimmi didn’t see him. Rats.
A light bulb appeared above Beppi’s head as he got an idea.  “Oh!” He snapped his fingers, and a balloon appeared between his middle and pointer fingers. He inflated the balloon, and said something into the end before he tied it shut, pulled out an ink pen from behind his back, and wrote Djimmi’s name on it. Then he tossed it up into the air, and spiked the balloon towards Djimmi. He’d surely get that later when he was done.
Beppi stepped out the door with Bon Bon, his face relaxing just a bit, but a genuine smile still present.  “You ready?” “You do know the way back, yes?” “‘Course I do! We ain’t to far from Isle Two. It’s this way,” Beppi motioned, “C’mon!” Bon Bon wobbled on her heels slightly as she followed Beppi off the porch steps, and into the streets. “Slow down, you simpleton! I can’t keep up in these shoes!” “Oh right, heels.” Beppi remembered, stopping to wait for his friend. Surprisingly, Beppi knew Bonnie had never worn heels before, so he was going to go slow out of respect. He’d never worn heels, and considering how painful he’s heard they are, he had no plans of wearing them either. “Did you have fun though?” “Yes! It was quite enjoyable, but I’ve many things to take care of tomorrow...” “That’s understandable.” Beppi shrugged. “I’m just lucky that I have the day off tomorrow.” Beppi glanced over to Bonnie as she walked next to him.
The two continued to converse as they made their way back to the second isle. For once, Beppi seemed rather relaxed to Bonnie. He wasn’t making a stupid pun or a silly joke every other sentence, that was for certain.  “This is nice, Beppi. I’m glad you suggested this.”
Beppi however, wrapped an arm around the Baroness and gently pulled her closer to him. “Look slightly down, and be quiet.” Bonnie could hear a serious tone in his voice that sounded completely foreign  for him. If something was going to make Beppi, of all people, get serious, then she wasn’t going to question it, so she did as instructed.
Beppi tried to avoid eye contact with the trio of wolves that were walking past them. He didn’t recognize them, no, but with suits like that, they were either flatfoots or gang members. And as far as Beppi knew, any gumshoe would be wearing a trench coat in this weather. Either way, the last thing he wanted to do was draw attention to him and Bonnie. Just act natural. He told himself.
Unfortunately, Beppi didn’t know them, and because of his curse, he had to fight to keep himself from smiling. The more anxious Beppi got, the more he could feel the corners of his mouth twitch and try to force their way to a smile, but the more his mouth tried to smile, the more anxious he got. He was starting to get scared, too, which only caused giggles to begin to bubble up inside him. Dang it, the stupid contract was burned over a year ago, why can’t the effects go away too?!
Luckily, the two passed the three wolves on the street. The feelings washed away, and Beppi heaved a silent sigh of relief.
“Boss, did ya see dat lady with dat ugly joker?” “Yee. She sure looks miiiighty rich.” The middle wolf mused, a smirk holding the cigar between his teeth. “We gonna do somethin’ Boss?!” Another wolf beside him asked. “Of course.” The boss’s smirk grew even wider. “We wouldn’t be The Wolf Gang if we didn’t try and get some dough outta the valuables.” The trio turned around to face the duo behind them that was walking away.  “Eddie? Teddy? Give ‘em th’ Bums Rush. Just make sure the little lady gets finds her pretty little self in my possession.” “You got it, Boss!” The two other wolves lowered themselves, and suddenly rushed towards the two unsuspecting carnies.
Beppi was suddenly knocked forward when a wolf tackled him from behind. “Beppi!!” Bon Bon screamed, just before she felt a pair of furry, clawed hands forcefully grab her by the waste. “Ah!” “Good goin’ Eddie!” “Get off!! Unhand me you foul brute!!” She spat, trying to pry herself out of his grip. “Not so fast, toots.” Eddie growled, licking his lips. “Boss thinks you’re worth a pretty penny!” The wolf cackled. Bonnie looked around, trying to find a way out before her eyes locked onto her heels, then onto the wolf’s exposed paws.  “I said let! Go!” The Baroness stomped the heel of her foot onto the other’s paw, breaking the chocolate heel instantly. Eddie howled in pain as he let go of Bonnie, and held his foot in pain as he hopped on the ground. “And you!!” Bonnie quickly pulled out her trusty peppermint double-barreled shotgun from behind her back, and twirled it around in her hands. “Get off him!!” She screamed in a low voice as she whacked Teddy off of Beppi with the butt of her weapon. “Beppi, get up!! Are you hurt?!” She asked, pulling her friend off the ground by the hand.
Bonnie was rather off put by Beppi. He was holding his side as if he were hurt, but he was smiling.  “Beppi?!” Had he hit his head?! It didn’t seem like he had when Bonnie watched him fall.  “Let’s make like a banana, and split!” Beppi suddenly grabbed Bon Bon’s wrist, and began to run, but thanks to the broken shoe, Bonnie tripped, and would have fallen onto the wet ground if Beppi hadn’t have caught her. “Augh! My ankle!!” Beppi placed a hand on Bonnie’s back as he tried to help her stand, his whole body shaking as he started giggling. “Well, I guess it’s pain to see we can’t run!! Ahahahahaha!!”  “Why are you making jokes at a time like this?!”
“Wadda we do now, Boss?!” Teddy asked. “Let’s give ‘em the ol’ Bada Bing Bada Boom!” The wolves each pulled out a bomb with a lit fuse, which could just barely be heard burning over Beppi’s laughter. Bon Bon knew there was no way to flee now. Not after twisting her ankle like she just did, so she raised her shotgun and took aim.
One by one, The Wolf Gang threw their bombs at the duo, and Bon Bon managed to shoot swirling cotton candy puffs out that hit the first and second incoming explosives, but as the third one came in too close, Bonnie had to swing her shotgun around like a baseball bat to knock it away.  “Beppi, stop laughing and do something!!”  “A-aw, come on, Bonnie!! No need to be all gloom and boom all of a sudden!!” “Beppi, now is not the time!!”  "Nice heater there, sweet cheeks!” The boss grinned. “Let’s see how ya like mine.” The boss pulled a machine gun out from his back, and began firing rapidly, but the gun was too big for him, so the wolf ended up shooting in every direction. “Shoot!!” Bon Bon backed away, glancing around to try and find some sort of source of cover. “Bang reload!! Ahahahahaha!!” Beppi might have been laughing uncontrollably, but he still did his best to try and pull Bonnie back and out of danger. If only he didn’t have the strength of a party balloon. He’d be able to at least try and carry her to safety.
What the duo hadn’t seen was Eddie sneaking around behind the pair while they were distracted, up until something struck Beppi in the side of the head, launching the balloon away from the Baroness. “Beppi!!”
Beppi groaned as he struggled to get back up, before he started laughing even harder. He had to think of something!! Charlie was back in the carnival, so was Jerry, literally, anything he could use to fight was at the carnival! All he could do was signal his Balloon Dog Brigade, but he was laughing too hard to whistle!
The boss stopped firing his gun and smirked, pulling out his pistol while the lady was distracted. Bonnie was about to fire at Eddie at point blank, but she saw the other pull out the gun in the corner of her eye, and quickly tried to shift her aim, but she was too late. The boss shot his pistol just as she fired, the letters B-A-N-G-! flew out of the pistol’s barrel, and into her shotgun, clogging it up and causing the peppermint to curl up around the sides with an explosion, completely destroying the weapon. “My shotgun!!” The Baroness exclaimed as she dropped her gun.
“Take care a dat clown, Eddie!” The boss ordered.  “Makes sure he’s stays a witness!” “Right!” Eddie nodded, pulling out a nice, heavy anvil, and dropped it onto Beppi’s back, trapping him onto the ground.
Beppi laughed even harder now. He struggled and squirmed, and fruitlessly tried to push himself up, but to no avail.  “Now then!” The boss marched right up next to the Baroness, and yanked her by the arms. “Yer comin’ with us!!” Bonnie screamed as she squirmed and pushed and tried to get away.  “Let go! Let go of me!!”
Beppi raised his head at that. His sides hurt like the dickens, but he just couldn’t stop laughing. Tears began falling from his eyes as he was forced to watch one of his best friends be dragged away by these bums.  “H-hehahahelp!! Ahahahahahahahahwahwhahelp!! Heeheeheehehehelp!! Somebody, hahahahahahahaha!! Helpaahahahahahaha!!”
“Eddie! Shut him up!” “Yes, Boss!” Eddie lifted a baseball bat up high in the air, before swinging it down onto Beppi’s head. Beppi felt the bat smack the back of his head, causing his face to slam into the pavement, then bounce back up into the bat again.
Beppi was just barely conscious after that. A few weak, airy chuckles escaped him as he watched the three wolves drag Bonnie away in a hazy vision.  “Hahahaha...Bonnie....” As Beppi watched the group get further and further away, laughs slowly turned into sobs, until his smile at last fell. “...Bon...nnh...” Beppi blacked out after that.

Bella spills her soul to Edward
Part two begins well enough, Bella says that things are getting better, she’s finally feeling more settled, sitting with friends at lunch. Fairly  typical things. I laughed a bit  when she talked about how terrible Volleyball was and how she didn’t know an answer in Trig because , Same Bella, same.  But then she talks about how it’s worse because Edward isn’t there.  Now, at first her reasons seem rational enough, that she is waiting for this guy who treated her like a leaper  to pop up out of nowhere. BUT, then she seems almost upset .....not to see him. Which, I mean, I have no idea why, because of some guy treated me like this, the only thing I would want to do would be never see him again, and Good riddance, but...maybe I’m the odd one? Anyway, Mike continues to follow her around and Bella begins to compare him to a puppy. Which, seems her opinion changed pretty quick from last chapter when she thought he was cute and they had things in common. Nothing he’s done seems creepy or overboard but suddenly she considering him “overly friendly” and later a bit of nuisance. Is it because she’s seen Edward and can’t think of anyone else? Is it because Teenagers are ever changing? Or because Stephanie Meyer didn’t feel like writing more nuanced humans and wanted to focus entirely on Edward and Bella’s relationship? I tend to think it’s the latter, which, to be fair, isn’t something unique to her. Most romance novels (particularly those geared towards teens) tend to give the main love interest  the majority of the personality traits while secondary characters suffer. Just an observation. The rest of the school day is glossed over fairly quickly. and the Bella goes and gets groceries, starts to cook dinner because Charlie is incompetent. She thinks about about the Cullen’s and their fancy clothing and cars. And here we see her  making th observation that even the Cullen’s clothing and expensive taste serves not only to set them apart, but to fully alienate them, that they want the isolation. Which, is fitting except...you know...if they wanted to keep a low profile, maybe don’t do that? Of course,we could argue that they do it for the human’s protection. We know that Jasper, especially, doesn’t really need to seem approachable, because one papercut and it all goes to hell (Which, sidenote, I’ve been in HS, papercuts, fights, etc are so common, like how has Jasper not massacred the whole school?) Bella got home and emails her mom which, you know, it might have just been smart for her to ...call her mom when she got in yesterday? or for her mom to call the house in forks to check in? Like....they have phones, probably more likely to hear that then check an email but...whatever. They are reading Wuthering Heights for class, and Bella decides to read it again. Now, personally, not my fav book and I wouldn’t be reading it for funsies (more into the other Bronte sister’s writing) but , I appreciate us getting to see that Bella does actually seem to be smart and interested in school. She makes dinner, they eat, Charlie ask about school and Bella brings up the Cullens in Which Charlie’s GIANT Man-crush on Carlise is revealed. Ok, might be an exaggeration, but Charlie is really pissy at the thought of town’s people talking shit about the family, and when Bella points out how attractive the kids are, he does say “You should see the Doctor.” Is Charlie just complimenting him, or does he have a crush? In cannon, def a compliment because  there is pretty much a NOHOMO ban in these books, but hey, girl can dream. All that aside, Charlie really does defend the family against the small town suspicions around newcomers, and it’s...pretty nice actually, I forgot that book Charlie isn’t automatically suspicious of the family and really adores all of them, except Edward which, you know.... The next week at school is glossed over, with small bits about how the local library sucks (I know the feel)  and how her school quizzes are super easy. The she commits the cardinal sin of hating snow, and my snowbunny self weeps. And then, of course, Edward comes  back to school and Bella is a bit of a mess , blushing just looking at him, which, understandable considering how the guy made her feel. Nothing much happens till Biology( other than Edward doing a creepy stare at lunch) but in class, things get...interesting. For one, Edward finally speaks and it’s...very normal. For two, we again get to see Bella’s smarts, even going so far as to have the teacher comment her and Edwards are well suited as partners, and we gain the knowledge that Bella was an advanced placement student in her old school.  The two of them then have an odd conversation where Bella spills the real reason she moved to Forks which is... yea, “Mom was unhappy so now I live here and I’m going to sigh about it forever.” On the one hand, it’s a super nice gesture, on the other, she completely miserable and it SHOWS to the point that, even without being able to read her mind, Edward notices it.  And I’m not saying that this isn’t a good glimpse in to her self sacrificing personality -we see that over and over again throughout the series which is consistent- but it does leave me wanting something more to be the cause of her angst. Which, you know, is probably me asking for too much , but that’s that. There’s a few little bits about him being good at reading people (haha) Edward still acting weird, leaning away from her, hands clenched. Class ends and Edwards takes off while Mike immediately finds Bella and seems a bit jealous. they go to gym where Mike is nice and her team has learned to get the hell outta the way when Bella is up to serve. The only other bit of anything interesting is Bella almost hits another car in the parking lot and looks back to see Edward laughing at her. not a bad chapter, but I remember now that the books are almost unbearably slow and detailed at times. Some people are fans of that, I never have been. Which is ...odd considering that I love long Movies like Gone with the Wind, and old books and poetry to the point of being a lit major. But..... i guess when I’m reading YA I tend to expect things  to happen and these intro chapters have a lot of detail I don’t find necessary. Like, time-skipping is fine, I don’t need short paragraphs about EVERYTHING that happens in Bella’s day. But, I  remember that this is a first time writer’s book and that...tends to be a pitfall in early works.  The pro’s of this chapter though, man, Edward’s “I find you hard to read” “I’m usually a good reader” God they are funny as hell in hindsight. Like, Edwards had his moments in the films, but MAN, he is a lot more of a lil shit in the books and I LOVE it. Also, sorry this took so long, after my stuff this week, I needed a break, and I have some more medical test Monday, so you, know. Life does things. But I’m keeping up with this , don’t worry.

The 10 Totally Best Chicago Movies
THE 10 TOTALLY BEST CHICAGO MOVIES. Yup, most of them are from the 1980’s.
Robert Redford on location in Lake Forest, Illinois, directing Timothy Hutton in Ordinary People, 1980
Like Rob Gordon, from the comedy High Fidelity (2000,) we love making lists – mostly about Chicago. Rob and his cohorts’ used their “top five lists” to bring some order to a chaotic world, and we get it. We’ve defined a “Chicago” movie, as one that was actually shot in part here, and one that captured the essence of Chicago in some magical way in the process.
But, first – just a little bit of Chicago movie history.
Chicago was the original hub for movie making at the turn of the 20th century, not New York or Los Angeles. Yes, before Hollywood went on to become, well Hollywood, it was Chicago that paved the way – of course. The city was brimming with production companies and filmmakers at the time. It was the start of the silent movie era, and Essanay Studios in particular was one of the earliest and most powerful, producing fifteen short films with Charlie Chaplin, and giving Gloria Swanson her start. But soon – with the birth of the “western,”the industry headed west. Essanay Studios was eventually absorbed by Warner Brothers, and it would be nearly seventy years before a new creative swell in filmmaking would return.
The gigantic success of two movies are largely credited with jump starting that shift; Cooley High (1975,) written by Eric Monte about his experiences coming-of-age in Chicago, (Monte wrote the hit TV shows; Good Times, The Jeffersons and What’s Happening,) and The Blues Brothers (1980.) The latter in particular was considered to have been the catalyst for ushering in a golden age of filmmaking in Chicago during the 1980s. This eventually lead to the rebirth of the “teen movie” and a trove of iconic John Hughes films; from Sixteen Candles (1985,) The Breakfast Club (1986,) Uncle Buck (1988) and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (1984.)
So here goes part one of our list – It’s all completely speculative – and in no particular order.
The list (part one)
10 – HIGH FIDELITY
Released 2000; Directed by Stephen Frears ; Screenplay by John Cusack, D.V. DeVincentis and Steve Pink Starring John Cusack, Jack Black, Iben Hjejle, Todd Louis, Lisa Bonet, Tim Robbins
There are probably not many lists about favorite Chicago movies that do not include High Fidelity, and with good reason. Not only does it perfectly capture a Chicagoan man-child having a thirty-something’s identity crisis at the turn of the century, but the movie’s lead, co-screenwriter and producer is hometown golden boy, John Cusack. You see his passion for the city at every turn. The script is based on the Nick Hornby novel about a record store owner with relationship issues. Originally set in London, Cusack moved the story to Chicago and set-up protagonist Rob Gordon’s shop up in a storefront on Milwaukee Avenue. With such insider touches as references to local record labels like Wax Trax! and Touch and Go Records, it’s easy to believe that Rob and his friends were an authentic part of Chicago’s outta sight music scene in the 1990s.
John Cusack in High Fidelity, 2000
9- ABOUT LAST NIGHT
Released 1986; Directed by Edward Zwick; Screenplay by Tim Kazurinsky and Denise DeClue Starring Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Elizabeth Perkins, Jim Belushi
The film, About Last Night, is remembered for aptly reflecting an authentic Chicago-y singles scene; with its’ main characters playing softball on the weekends in Grant Park and hanging out with their pals at Lincoln Park and Division street bars, where you might find their modern-day counterparts today. Demi Moore even put on twenty pounds so she looked more like a “realistic” Chicago gal. Yeah, I know. Anyway, the script was loosely adapted from the 1974 play Sexual Perversity in Chicago, by Chicago scribe, David Mamet, and was first performed at the Organic Theatre Company. Mamet turned down the chance to adapt his drama about a twenty something couple, who fall in and out of love, with the help of their romantically cynical friends, for the screen. Still, the movie version is a moving love story, that went on to show a generation of gen-xers that love could be found in the Chicago bar scene, and even after a one night stand. Trust us, it’s Demi Moore at her very best – plus anything with Elizabeth Perkins is a go!
Demi Moore and Elizabeth Perkins in About Last Night, 1986
8 -THE BLUES BROTHERS
Released 1980; Directed by John Landis; Screenplay by Dan Aykroyd (story) and John Landis Starring John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd
Chicago is first and foremost, the star of the iconic film, The Blues Brothers, based on John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd’s band by the same name. From the films spot on depiction of the bustling late 1970s Maxwell flea market, to the climatic chase sequence that winds through Lower Wacker Drive, there is no doubt that the musical comedy was an homage to the city. It took director, and hometown boy, John Landis, just two weeks to write the script, and the movie soundtrack sounds like Chicago, with music by Aykroyd and Belushi, and tracks by Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and James Brown, who also appear in cameos. Jake and Elwood’s journey takes them many places, but most iconic is probably the duo’s epic performance of Jailhouse Rock for the prisoners at Joliet prison.
Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi, Blues Brothers
7 – ORDINARY PEOPLE
Released 1980; Directed by Robert Redford; Screenplay by Alvin Sargent Starring, Mary Tyler Moore, Timothy Hutton, Donald Sutherland
This was Robert Redford’s directorial debut, one so good, that no one ever thought of him as “just an actor” again. Based on the 1976 novel, Ordinary People, by then first time author, Judith Guest, try and watch this film to completion without dissolving into a pool of tears – this film invented the term “tear jerker.” Filmed largely on Chicago’s North Shore during the fall of 1979, the scenery of suburban Lake Forest is instantly recognizable for anyone who grew up in the area. The story follows a Chicago family, shattered the accidental death of its older son. The direction by Redford, and acting across-the-board, is simply sublime. Timothy Hutton plays tormented teen, Conrad, who blames himself for his brother’s death and breaks our collective hearts in the process; Mary Tyler Moore got a nomination as his ice-cold mother, who blames him too, and Donald Sutherland, the peacemaker and arguably the true protagonist of the story, is finally forced to see things as they are. Judd Hirsch played the therapist who helps him, and a very young Elizabeth McGovern plays his love interest. The film went on to sweep the 1981 Academy Awards, winning best picture, best director, best screenplay and best actor for Timothy Hutton.
Mary Tyler Moore, Timothy Hutton, Donald Sutherland, Ordinary People, 1980
6- HOOP DREAMS
Released 1994; Directed by Steve James Starring William Gates and Arthur Agee
Filmmakers Steve James, Frederick Marx and Peter Gilbert set out to film a documentary in 1986 for PBS about playground basketball, hoping to shed light on Chicago’s street culture. They ended up shooting for four years, resulting in the 1994 emotional powerhouse, Hoop Dreams. One may not think that a documentary about basketball would have that kind of impact, but we promise you it does. Director Steve James narrowed in on the lives of two young black teenagers, basketball prodigies, Arthur Agee and William Gates, who grew up in Chicago’s housing projects. After they both win scholarships to a suburban high school, their fortunes diverge. One follows the footsteps of St Joe’s favourite son, all-star Isiah Thomas and the other doesn’t make the cut. Considered one of the best films of the 1990s, it was notoriously snubbed by the Oscars, winning best editing and losing out best picture to of all things – Forrest Gump.

Last Friday, Syfy gave us a new image and premiere date for Krypton, the Superman prequel series set on his native planet about 200 years before his birth. It’ll arrive March 21.
Over the weekend, John Williams revealed in an interview that he’d be composing a theme for Solo: A Star Wars Story. The rest of the score is still being handled by John Powell. The standalone Han Solo film releases May 25.
The 32 Most Anticipated Movies of 2018
On Tuesday, Netflix released a brief teaser for A Series of Unfortunate Events season 2, starring Neil Patrick Harris as Count Olaf. The show returns March 30, and adapts books five to nine.
Later that day, Paramount announced that the next Cloverfield movie – which may or may not be called God Particle – has been moved back to April 20 from February. The film stars Daniel Brühl, Elizabeth Debicki, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw among others.
On Wednesday, Netflix said that a Bright sequel is in the works, with stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton along with director David Ayer all attached. This confirms the Bloomberg report from two weeks ago.
That’s all the entertainment news for this week. Welcome back to The Weekend Chill, your one-stop destination for what to watch, play, or listen to this weekend. Here are the best picks:
TV: The X-Files Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny reprise their roles as FBI special agents for an eleventh year in the second year of the show’s revival era, whose rating success (despite negative critical reception) convinced Fox to greenlit a 10-episode new season. The premiere and finale will focus on the long-arc storyline, with the other episodes being standalone.
Recurring and guest stars include Annabeth Gish, Robbie Amell, Lauren Ambrose, Karin Konoval, Barbara Hershey, and Haley Joel Osment. Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) attempt to locate their son at the beginning of the series, while battling a mysterious organisation led by Erika Price (Hershey).
The X-Files season 1 has gotten average to good reviews from critics, with Vox’s Todd VanDerWerff surprised “how rejuvenated it feels”, and terming it “a damn sight better than the 2016 one”. Uproxx’s Alan Sepinwall concurred with VanDerWerff that it’s not anywhere near its season-three peak, but “it’s much better than it has any business being, particularly given what we got two years ago”.

Grown-ish In the penultimate episode of the third season of ABC’s popular African-American family sitcom Black-ish, the eldest daughter Zoey Johnson (Yar Shahidi) went off to college. Usually, audiences would just see less of her from the next season – as has become the case with the ongoing season 4 – but here, she’s gotten her own spin-off.
Stylised like the original, Grown-ish follows Zoey as she begins her freshman year at Southern California University. Joining her is Charlie Telphy (Deon Cole) – now part of Black-ish’s main cast – f and Aaron (Trevor Jackson), who has a recurring role on Black-ish. New cast members include Francia Raisa, Chris Parnell, Emily Arlook, and Jordan Buhat.
Reviews for the show’s first season – critics have seen a few episode – are mostly positive, with EW’s Dana Schwartz praising Shahidi’s chemistry with her Latina Republican roommate Ana (Raisa) and the snappy dialogue, while Variety’s Maureen Ryan called it “a smart, breezy expansion of the Black-ish family”.

Rotten Do you like true crime shows and are concerned about food production? This Netflix original documentary series is tailored especially for you then. Rotten focuses on the growing global food industry, exposing the corruption, waste and dangers of your everyday eating habits. “The food industry is under full-scale assault,” the trailer narrates. “The crisis is global.”
Episodes will look at the honey industry – a scam known as Honeygate that involved smuggling in inferior honey from China via Australia to the US – alongside the rise of severe food allergies, chicken farms, organic and unpasteurized milk, and regulation of the fishing industry. The show comes from the same production company that regularly collaborates with Anthony Bourdain.
“In a world where huge global supply-chains are increasingly intertwined and consolidated, this series starts on your dinner plate… and follows the money to the shocking consequences – intended or not – of regulation, innovation and greed,” Netflix’s official description for Rotten reads.

Movies: Fight Club We’re going to talk about Fight Club (sorry). The film that gave the world’s youth endlessly-quotable lines, that gave the generation some good values and some screwed-up ones, and that inspired foolish individuals to start their own fight clubs, completely missing the point the film – directed by David Fincher, and based on Chuck Palahniuk’s novel – was trying to make.
For the unaware, Fight Club stars Edward Norton as the unnamed protagonist and narrator, who’s disgruntled with his white-collar job. He visits support groups for terminal disease patients just to have someone to talk to. He meets Brad Pitt’s soap salesman on a flight one day, and starts a “fight club” with him, where they organise bare-knuckle boxing matches for people like them.
Fight Club was one of the most controversial films of the year in 1999, and though it received polarising reception from critics, it has gone on to become one of the greatest films of its time. Pitt’s acting, Fincher’s work, and the anti-consumerism message make it a must-watch.

L.A. Confidential Two decades on, it’s still a surprise that L.A. Confidential – a brilliantly written, powerfully acted, and gritty depiction of 1953 Los Angeles mixing police corruption and Hollywood – lost most Oscar categories it was nominated in to Titanic. (If you love Titanic, please go away.) But it did pick up two very well-deserved awards, Best Screenplay and Kim Basinger for Best Supporting Actress.
Basinger plays a call girl who looks a lot like a popular film star, and she becomes central to an investigation into a multiple murder at a coffee shop after two detectives – Bud White (Russell Crowe) and Ed Exley (Guy Pearce) – discover ties to the call girl service operator. The film also stars Kevin Spacey as a “Hollywood” detective, so whether that influences your decision to watch it given the recent revelations, is up to you.
L.A. Confidential is one of the best films of its era, with a 99 percent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 90 score on Metacritic. It’s dark, cynical, pessimistic and twisted, and it manages to craft compelling characters and wade into their psychology, while still being a taut crime thriller.

Fantastic Mr. Fox Wes Anderson has a new stop-motion animated feature on the way, and his previous venture – a comedy based on Roald Dahl’s children’s book about a fox who steals food from three mean and wealthy farmers – is a fantastic (pardon us) family adventure all-around. It’s also got a terrific voice cast: George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, and Owen Wilson among others.
Clooney and Streep voice Mr. and Mrs. Fox, who’ve built a peaceful life for themselves after time as thieves. But after 12 years, Mr. Fox’s animal instincts pull him back into his old life as a chicken thief, which puts not just his family but the whole animal community at risk. The farmers are determined to catch him at any cost, which forces the Foxes underground.
Fantastic Mr. Fox is a whole-hearted funny romp for people of all ages, full of personality, charm, wit and emotional undercurrents, and brought to life beautifully by set designers and animation directors, alongside a wonderful score by Alexandre Desplat.

Other mentions: For those who’ve seen every movie listed above, and want something more recent, there are a few choices on Blu-ray: the Tom Cruise-starrer American Made, based on the true story of a pilot who became a drug smuggler for the Medellín Cartel in the 80s; Emma Stone and Steve Carrell in Battle of the Sexes, which is loosely based on the 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs; and Ben Stiller in Brad’s Status, where he re-examines his life while on a college tour with his son.
If you’re on the lookout for more new TV, Showtime has a coming-of-age drama from Lena Waithe – Emmy-winner with Aziz Ansari for Master of None season 2’s “Thanksgiving” episode – called The Chi, with rapper Common as an executive producer. It’s set in the South Side of Chicago with Jason Mitchell (Straight Outta Compton) in the lead, who dreams of opening a restaurant. It starts Sunday in the US, and might be available on Hotstar in India, given the latter’s deal with CBS.
There’s also BBC One mini-series McMafia, inspired by journalist Misha Glenny’s book of the same name, which focuses on the British-raised son of a Russian mafia boss who’s trying to get away from the family business. You can watch it via BBC iPlayer.
Star Trek: Discovery, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, One Day at a Time, and More on Netflix in January
Beyond that, given it’s the start of the month (and year), all streaming services have added tons of new content. On Netflix, you can find the third season of Jane the Virgin; the first and only season of One Punch Man, the anime about a superhero who can kill anyone with one blow and how that depresses him, and both versions of Fullmetal Alchemist, the 2003 one that was made before the manga was complete, and the 2009 edition Brotherhood that’s more faithful to the source material.
Meanwhile, Hotstar now has every single episode of The X-Files, starting from the first episode in 1993 to the latest one that came out this week (as mentioned earlier). It has also brought back The Wire – one of the greatest series of all-time – in addition to all nine seasons of 24, and all 12 seasons of Bones.

Issues In Trust
Characters: November, Mike, Lima, Oscar, Romeo and Quebec
Word Count: 1,930
Trigger Warning: Slight Swearing
A/N: I really didn’t like where I was going with And Hope To Die so I came up with a new adventure for November and the team. Just like the other one this one takes place before Charlie joins them.
Summary: November and her boys are tasked with protecting a Navy SEAL. But in the world of espionage you never know who you can trust. Especially when the person you’re supposed to save won’t trust you. Click that read more if you want to.
XXXXX
“I seriously hate this guy,” Romeo said as he plopped down on the bed.
“Never hate your enemies. It affects your judgment.”
Even though Romeo stared at the ceiling and couldn’t see Quebec’s face he could sense the smirk in his best friend’s words. But the man had a point, even if he was just quoting a movie, and it was a good one. Emotions always made their job messier than it had to be. It was always better to leave emotions out of everything. Which was something the Raven was quite good at.
But that didn’t change Romeo’s feelings about their target.
In fact none of the wisdom Quebec could impart through movie quotes would change anyone’s feelings; not even his own. And neither could the calming mantras Oscar guided them through. From day one their current mission smelled fishier than the ocean. A Navy SEAL was being hunted by a terrorist cell and needed their help? His SEAL status checked out and the terrorist cell was proven to be real. As well as the cell’s connection to the petty officer and the team he worked with. Everything checked out just fine.
Except for Petty Officer Douglas Minkowski himself.
The man was on the taller side, six-foot-three, tanned and muscled. His hair and thin beard were both a dark brown, almost black, in color. Just looking at his dark brown eyes, as they darted around, anyone could tell that Minkowski was constantly on edge. He carried himself with such obvious suspicion of the world around him. But none could blame him.
They knew firsthand what that life does to people.
His suspicion wasn’t the problem they had with him though. It was how he took control of the mission. From the moment the team made contact Minkowski took charge of the situation. The original plan took a backseat to his orders. Instead of doing things by the rules they usually followed the team saw Minkowski on his terms. Spoke to Minkowski through his burner phones. They went to his safe houses.
One of the small run-down, total crap shoot of an apartments was, were Romeo and Quebec currently were waiting.
And now the spare burner, which sat peacefully inside the interior pocket of Romeo’s suit jacket, was vibrating like never before. Which only meant one thing. Making an assumption he sent Quebec away with a nod of his head.
“Here’s looking at you kid.”
Quebec winked and climbed through the open window and down the fire escape. The Millennium Falcon, a black M27 IAR sniper rifle and Q’s most prized possession, was slung across his back. The butt of the rifle was the last thing Romeo saw as his best friend climbed out of view. Romeo shook his head; heavily embarrassed by Quebec despite there being no one else in the room with them. Being best friends with Q was very trying at times and despite enduring years of the man’s oddities times like this were the most trying. Movie quotes in lieu of real conversations wasn’t as difficult as watching Quebec leave him to fend for himself.
I wish Q would just act normal for once and see that I need him.
Wait… what the hell am I saying?
That bloody idiot demands to go by the name of damn Bond character! Nothing’s normal about him for Christ’s sake!
“Leave it alone and focus,” he scolded aloud to himself with a heavy sigh.
Completely forgetting about the burner in his pocket Romeo tapped his comm. to life. His original plan was to talk to Quebec. Not even to really talk. Just find out if Q was where he needed to be. If he was ready. But, and most importantly, if Quebec would have his back when the time came.
Then the phone vibrated again.
He sat up on the bed and pulled the out the phone. But instead of looking at it he got up and walked to the small kitchen. He rummaged through the cupboards for a few minutes and then found a glass tumbler. Opening the fridge Romeo reached inside and grabbed a bottle of bourbon. Then he opened the freezer, grabbed a couple ice cubes and popped them into the glass. Pouring a good amount of the bourbon over the ice he twisted the cap back onto the bottle when he finished. Taking a sip he sighed and returned the bottle to the fridge. He thought about calling Quebec again. His finger hovered above his ear comm.
Thinking better of it he connected to November instead.
November here.
“It’s me. It’s Ro.”
Yeah, I know. Something wrong?
“No. Everything’s fine.”
Are you sure?
“Yes.”
Oh really? Then why isn’t Q answering me?
Romeo didn’t say anything; he had no idea what was going on in Quebec’s head. Shrugging slightly he took another sip. He let another minute pass by as he checked the messages that came through the burner. Even though they were speaking in code the urgency was quite clear.
What are they thinking? Hats are up and coming.
People may think I lie, but, I am not even worried.
Can you save a sample for me?
This is not good. Romeo thought to himself.
November ended the silence with a harsh clearing of her throat. The sudden sound pulled Romeo out of the scenarios he was running through his head. Minkowski couldn’t be trusted but there was the slight possibility that he was telling the truth about everything. After all his messages were very off-putting.
“Yeah?” he asked taking another sip.
What did you do?
“Me?!” Romeo asked shocked and almost choking on the bourbon. November’s accusatory tone was the last thing he expected. His mind, and all of its attention, was already split up. A part was worrying about Minowski. Another was worrying about himself. Another was thinking about how Lima was reacting to all of this. And another was thinking about Quebec. Not a single part was focused on the conversation with his leader.
“What makes you think I did anything to piss him off?”
‘Cause y’all bicker like an old married couple, Mike cut in.
“So do you and Li! And besides, who in the hell asked you in the first place, Mike?”
Nobody. But seeing as I’m the one who’s gonna get all y’all’s asses outta here if things go to shit I’da thought my opinion would count for somethin’
“Jesus fucking Christ I didn’t…”
Before Romeo could finish his sentence another set of texts came through the burner. But this time Minkowshi opted for plain English instead of the skip code.
They’re coming.
I know it.
Not safe.
On my way.
“Fucking damn it!” Romeo muttered to himself when he read the last text.
XXXXX
November, Oscar, and Lima were the ones away from the action. The three of them were currently holed up in another safe house near Minkowski’s apartment. It had the look of makeshift living quarters, but, they lived in worse places before so they didn’t complain. But they were far away enough to be very left out of the loop. Oscar and Lima were used to being on this end of things; they worked as they normally would have. November was not on the other hand. That was Minkowski’s doing and they did not like it.
Usually November was in there with the others; headfirst into the firefight.
“Shit.”
“What? What is it?” Lima asked; worry flowing through his voice.
“Minowski.”
November’s one word explanation was just enough to get Lima’s anxiety going. Shooting up from the cot where he sat he began spouting off questions. His face paled quickly and his mouth was going a mile a minute. But the others knew that his brain, and its worry, was going even faster.
“Minowski? What about him? Is he dead? Did the terrorists get him? What about Romeo? And Quebec? Are Ro and Q safe? What’s going on?!”
“Li, let November explain please,” Oscar calmly interjected.
“Oscar. Check the tracker Romeo put on Minkowski. Find him.”
“You got it.”
He opened up the laptop that sat on the small folding table in front of him. Opening the tracking program Oscar saw a small green dot blinking on the screen. He zoomed in on the image a few times. Romeo wouldn’t dare to call them with Minkowski near him so they couldn’t rely on his help. All they needed was a street name and a direction. They could figure out the rest from there.
“They’re heading south on Winnipeg Boulevard. It looks like…”
Oscar zoomed back out again and followed the trajectory. There was only one place they could be heading to.
“What?! Where are they going!?” Lima shouted.
“They’re headed to a nightclub.”
A few minutes later Oscar was watching everything from the security cameras inside the nightclub. Once they knew where Minkowski absconded with Romeo it didn’t take long to get a handle on things from their end. November had the wherewithal to send Mike to the target’s location. He was already there, parked in an alley across the street, watching things from the outside. Quebec was already with the two of them since he watched Minkowski arrive and depart with Romeo.
The team had not one inside man but three; things were looking up for them. Not to mention hacking into the poor excuse for a security system took less than five minutes. And now Oscar watched as Romeo and Quebec tussled with a couple of security guards. They were trying to get to Minkowski before things went from bad to worse.
“We’re gonna kill a guy today, isn’t that going to be fucking fun?!”
Lima chimed in with his usual anxiety; “Only if they survive to do anything. Which they probably won’t.”
“Have a little faith, will you?”
A worried sound escaped Lima’s mouth and he left the makeshift living room for the kitchen.
“Oscar, please. We aren’t going to kill him,” November said. She stood directly behind the Cobbler and also watched the security footage. They still didn’t know why Minkowski refused to let them help in their usual way. And besides their mission was to protect him at all costs. Killing him was completely out of the question.
Even if he headed into a nightclub and started beating up everyone.
The security camera feed was beyond poor quality. Choppy and full of static it was hard to tell how things were going. Flashing strobe lights had already made surveillance hard on their end. And if that wasn’t bad enough the nightclub was far beyond crowded. It was next to impossible to make out Romeo and Quebec in the mass of people.
“Somebody tell me what’s happening!”
November sighed and left Oscar to watch the feed. Someone had to calm Lima down. And since Mike was nowhere near them it was up to her. Having everyone keep their wits about them was a technical part of her job description. She was the team’s leader after all.
“Li?”
The Musician didn’t answer.
She entered the kitchen and saw him standing with his arms on the counter. He looked like he could barely keep his body propped up. His arms were shaking and his chest rose and fell rapidly. November could tell that he was on the verge of a panic attack. But she didn’t have time to do anything before things took a turn for the worse.
“Well, well, well…”
“What? What happened now!?” November shouted.
“The cameras just went black. I can’t do anything. I lost the footage. I lost them.”
