Who do you think is Ajaks favorite child?
So, Ajak would say that she loves all her children equally. She would never have favourites!
But yes she does and it's Sersi--hear me out!
It's not just the picking her to take over as Prime, because that's obvious. But I'm talking about how I think Sersi is the most human of all the Eternals.
Ajak loves all her kids. They function all together, as a family, even the cantankerous Druig and stubborn Ikaris and prickly Thena. Ajak wouldn't change anything about them.
But Sersi is different. From the moment they first awaken Ajak knows Sersi has insatiable curiosity, and passion, and love for all she does. Ajak sees how much Sersi loves life in all its forms and admires it, maybe even envies how much more freely Sersi can love without the burden of the truth weighing on her.
Ikaris is her secondhand, and he knows all that she does (mostly). He becomes a confidante to her in a way none of her other children are. And yet this ultimately dooms them both to never actually being able to depend on each other in an emotionally healthy way. Both are a pillar of the irrevocable truth and fear how it will crush their family if they move from that.
But that's why I think Thena's role in this is so fascinating (my bias is showing, I'm well aware). Because Thena also knows the truth, on some level, even from the beginning. It can be argued even before then--maybe she always gets Mahd Wy'ry, maybe she always remembers the horrors that they facilitate in their missions.
Ajak knows this. That's why she suggests erasing Thena, because she really does love her, and she knows firsthand the burden of knowledge. Thena already had wisdom, it's the knowledge that really endangered her.
I also think that's why Druig's relationship to Thena is so much deeper than what we got in the movie. He speaks up for her--he speaks up for her against Ajak, and Ikaris, and Arishem himself. He believes that Thena has a right not to want to forget their lives, and he obviously doesn't trust the answers he gets from Ikaris or their Prime.
Ajak is a very complicated character. She's not entirely right, she's not wrong either, and I do believe that she does the best with what she has. And that she loves her children. That, above all else, is what drives this person: love for her children and for people.
And that's Sersi's favourite thing: people. Sersi loves life and the people in it, and everything in between. Sersi is who Ajak could be if she didn't have the burden of their mission on her. And yes, she does impress that onto Sersi and burden her with that. It's hard to reconcile, and confusing, and it creates hardship for Sersi. But Ajak did so knowing Sersi was the right one to take this on.
Because this mother has high hopes for her daughter, and she knows what she can handle because she forged this child's soul from her own.
#Eternals#Ajak#a biopsy if you will just some thoughts of mine#also yes I saw the Barbie movie why do you ask?#mother-daughter relationships are endlessly complex#and I don't want to trivialize anything for anyone by waxing poetic about it from my own perspective#but this is what I think about Ajak and Sersi's relationship#also sorry you probably thought this would be a really fun ask and I've done...this#okay so for those who read the tags#Ikaris is her very good mama's boy who does everything right but then she finds out is wanted in six states for federal crimes#and she goes where did I go wrong???#Thena: where could he have gone right is really the question#Thena is like Ikaris' twin they're so alike#Ajak asks how Thena is and Thena just nods and walks off#she's more of an icy teenager than Sprite is to her#but at least Gilgamesh makes Thena a little sweeter#he's also best boi so...write that down#Gil helps carry in the groceries#Sprite acts like she's too cool for it all but really she still likes cuddles and I will die on that hill#Druig is constantly bitching about 'mother dear'#while Ajak and Makkari have a great relationship!#They're obviously close Makkari is holding her in the wedding scene#Makkari is very close and sweet with Ajak but Makkari is also a wild child#she steals and is rambunctious and likes breaking the rules#Miss Goody Two Shoes is Sersi herself#Phastos too up until...a certain point#And Kingo...Kingo thinks he's her favourite#like truly and genuinely

You were getting more and more comfortable at camp. You were getting along very well with your siblings. Especially Lee and Cornelia, who explained everything – sometimes twice – to you. They also explained to you that if you wanted to leave camp during the summer, you needed to get an authorisation from Mr. D. And Clarisse knew, so she told you to get it since it was your idea to go see that movie. Your siblings told you he rarely gave them away.
“Mmh. I accept this challenge.”
“It really wasn’t,” Lee said. “It was a piece of information at best.”
You walked, determined, to Mr. D’s office. You didn’t have many arguments, but Cornelia did tell you Mr. D was always looking for campers to give him alcohol even though his father, Zeus, forbade him to drink any. Mr. D was playing cards with Chiron. Maybe it wasn’t the right time, you hesitated before Chiron looked up.
“Yes?” he said, putting his cards down.
“Mmh,” you froze before staring at your camp director, “I needed to talk to Mr. D, please.”
Chiron turned his face to look at Mr D, and he took off his sunglasses before looking at you.
“What?”
“I need authorisation to leave camp for one day,” you explained firmly. “Please.”
“And why would I give you that?”
“Because I need it. For next week, the 21st,” you begged.
Mr D stared at you, bored. He was ready to take back his cards, when you shouted, desperately.
“I–I’ll give you alcohol in exchange!”
“No you will not!” Chiron gave you a hard stare. “Zeus–.”
“I’m desperate, so yes I will.”
Mr D was still silent.
“What is this about y/n?” Chiron asked. “Why do you need to leave camp?”
“I– I asked Clarisse on a date. Well,” you faltered. “It’s not exactly a date I don’t think, it’s more like I won a bet, and what I asked for was for us to go see a movie together. So maybe it is? And it would suck for me if I can’t go, when I won the bet you know.”
Chiron and you were both looking at Mr. D, and you had your best puppy eyes for him.
“Still a no for me,” Mr. D took his cards.
“Please, please, please, please, please!”
Mr. D shook his head. You sighed, thinking about what to say to try and convince him to let you go.
“That’s–,” you hesitated before blurting out “such a homophobic thing to do in 2024 to refuse to let us go on a date! Which is what that is… a date, with us girls.”
“What?” Mr. D muttered confused.
“And during pride month? You have no shame. It’s–.”
“Fine, if I give you this authorisation, will you shut up and leave?”
You nodded vigorously. And Mr. D sent you a  flying paper with the snap of a finger, and after reading the paper to make sure it was legit – which did take a few minutes – you ran away in case he changed his mind. The first person you ran into Luke and asked him if he had seen Clarisse. He pointed at the Ares cabin, and told you he saw her go in.
You walked to her cabin, and knocked, shouting Clarisse’s name over and over again. The door flew open, revealing an annoyed Clarisse.
“Hi,” you smiled.
Her face softened slightly at your sight, but she still looked at you annoyed, with her arms crossed.
“What?”
“Guess what?” your hands were in your back, hiding away the piece of paper you got earlier.
“Your boyfriend called your mom to ask her why you ditched him?”
“What?” you hesitated. “No. First, I don't have a boyfriend, they were all losers in my school. And no girlfriends either for the same reason.”
“Good,” she nodded. “So what was the news then?”
The paper was still held behind your back, you held her gaze a few more seconds before showing her proudly the paper. She looked at the paper, frowning, and then took your paper. You stood there patiently, swinging on your feet, waiting for her to finish reading it at her own pace.
“How did you get Mr. D to agree to this?” she puts the paper down.
“It’s a secret. But I’ll tell you if you want to know.”
“Of course I do, no one here in years got one of these,” she shook the paper in front of you.
You held up your index, and made a ‘come closer’ motion with it. She came closer, and you put your face even closer, her nose almost touching yours. Clarisse was taller than you – taller than most campers actually – and your face was facing up. And having her this close to you, it was as if time had stopped. You smiled.
“I promised him alcohol,” you whispered.
“What!” she stepped back. “Do you know Zeus–.”
“I know, I know, Cornelia told me. I don’t remember what I said after that,’ you lied, “I guess he just likes me.”
“Okay,” Clarisse smiled, “liar.”
Clarisse and you stood there, at the threshold of the Ares cabin for a few more moments, just enjoying each other's company before her siblings ran in, pushing you toward Clarisse. Your  body slammed against hers, her arms wrapped around your shoulders to steady you. You would have been upset if it weren’t for the outcome. But Clarisse quickly let go before grabbing the shirt of her brother – Mark – and made him stop in his tracks. You didn’t hear what she said, but you saw Mark nodding vigorously before walking away.
“Let’s get out of here,” Clarisse grabbed your arm and led you outside.
“So,” you started when she stopped under a tree and sat there. “Do you know what you’re going to wear?”
“No. Do you?”
“Uh obviously! I have the perfect outfit for Barbie. I actually planned this before coming here, minus the ‘going to camp half-blood’ cause I didn’t think I’d end up here. It’s all pink, and cute and oh, should I also do my nails? Should we do our nails all pink?” you beamed at the idea.
“No.”
“True, yours do look very good in black,” you nodded. “Oh, we could cosplay Barbie and Raquelle. But it’s not going to be accurate, Raquelle hates Barbie.”
“I think it’s pretty accurate,” she shrugs.
You slapped her arms playfully before laying your head on her lap. The weather was nice, the sun was out and the leaves were shading you from it, the perfect combination for you to take a nap. And then Clarisse started to run her fingers on your arm which made it for you. You were asleep in no time.
“Wake up sunshine,” Clarisse pinched you lightly on the hip. You jerked awake.
“What?” you mumbled, standing up.
“I have to meet up with my brothers and sisters for the next Capture the Flag strategy.”
“Can I come too?” you yawned.
“We’re not on the same team, remember.”
“I won’t tell them anything.”
“Nope,” she walked away, “don’t follow me,” she turned around, walking backwards.
I’d follow you everywhere you go Clarisse La Rue.
“I won’t,” you said instead.
Tumblr media
The night before the date, you laid out your outfit neatly before washing up to go to bed. Cornelia was your bunkmate, with the bed above yours. But before going to sleep, you loved updating each other’s day.
“So tomorrow huh,” Cornelia sat on your bed. “I never thought I’d live to see Clarisse being friendly with anyone other than her siblings.”
“I think she’s funny.”
“Sure, if funny was a synonym of mean. Wait– do you even have money to spend on tomorrow’s activities?”
“Actually I do. Mr. D did tell me he wouldn’t give me any, and thank gods I found a load of cash in my backpack. My mom gave it to me. I mean she did write it was for any expense that I would have to make on my way home, but I have other priorities.”
“Clearly,” she rolled her eyes, laughing. “You’re gonna regret this in August.”
“Don’t worry about it.”
Like before any exciting day, it took some time to fall asleep. Anxiety and excitement mixing together, making up the worst and best scenarios. What if Clarisse is just messing with you and forgot? That can’t happen, you just saw her a few hours ago talking about it. What if you annoyed her so much with it, she’d stood you up? What if she doesn’t like everything you planned? Not a single positive and happy ‘what if’ comes to your mind.
“Wake up!” someone shakes you awake. “It’s 8 already, you're going to be late!” Cornelia said.
“Fuck!” you ran to the washroom.
You rushed through your routine, before rushing back to your bed and grabbed your outfit, and put it on. And all of that only took 28 minutes. You looked at yourself in the mirror for a final check up, before opening the door. Clarisse was already there. Her curls free, just like the first time you saw her. It felt weird not seeing her in her usual orange tee, but she still looked pretty. She wore a simple short brown tank top with blue faded jeans, with her beaded necklace still hanging from her neck.
“You look really pretty today,” Clarisse smiled shyly, holding her arms around her.
“Thanks,” you approached her, putting your hands on her arms and leaned in, “you look pretty every day.”
“Don’t come home too late,” Lee interrupted, appearing just next to you.
“Don’t worry, but also don’t wait up!”
You grabbed Clarisse’s hand and dragged her away from your cabin. A taxi was waiting for you outside of the camp, and in no time you were at the local theatre in the middle of nowhere. And lucky for you, the people of this town weren’t going to see the 9:30am slot for Barbie. Except for that one couple sitting in the back. You dragged Clarisse in the middle, and sat with the popcorn and sodas. You ate in silence, watching the trailers.
Well that was not fun. The worst ‘what ifs’ from last night came back immediately making you anxious. It was not supposed to be like this. What if she wasn’t enjoying herself. What if she was mad because she ate a salty popcorn when you asked for the sweet ones. What if she was disappointed—
“Ouch,” you looked at her, frowning, rubbing your arm. “Why did you do that?”
“You were ignoring me.”
“What? Oh I– I didn’t hear sorry.”
“I asked you, what’s the deal with Barbie anyway? Why are you so excited about a blonde, white, plastic doll?”
“W– Barbie is not– ok. She is a plastic doll, and she may not look like us but it’s the idea of Barbie, the idea that us women can be anything we want. And how in Barbie Land, it’s all about girls and women being able to be whoever they want, and have whatever jobs they want. Barbie is literally a doctor, a pilot, a model, a chef, a fashion designer, a business woman, a teacher – she has every job in the world. And there is no one telling her that she can’t do that because she’s not a man. And also, the Barbie franchise is my childhood. The movies, they deserve an Oscar honestly–,” you stopped. “Sorry, I talk too much.”
“I asked,” her attention went back to the screen. “So did you have any barbies?”
“Of course! I had Barbie's dreamhouse, and so many barbies and outfits. I’m surprised I didn’t end up being a writer with all my imagination. Did you?”
“No.”
“No?”
“My mom wasn’t the kind to buy me anything. And certainly not dolls.”
“Oh.”
“Don’t feel sad for me, I’m fine,” she gave you a quick glance.
“I’m not!” you frowned. “So you never watched Barbie and A Christmas Carol? The best Barbie movie ever?”
“Nope.”
“Oh, we have to change that. Mmh. But phones and laptops aren’t allowed though… Maybe if I bring my mom’s DVD player next summer.”
“Already planning on your next move to woo me?” she teased, approaching you.
Your eyes widened, your cheeks were hot.
“I– No! I– I– I don’t.”
“Relax sunshine, I’m kidding,” she laughed.
And just then, the lights went out and the movie was about to start, thank the gods. Because you did not know what to say. The movie was incredible, you shed a few tears at the end, and sang Dance The Night with Clarisse laughing and cheering you on. It was a great experience, and it was even better to have watched it with Clarisse.
“Did you like it?” you asked her when the credits started rolling.
“Yes. It was great.”
“And you’ll love the other Barbie movies because they are way less depressing.”
“So, what’s next?” she stood up.
“It’s almost time to eat, what do you want?”
“Whatever you want.”
“No you choose, I insist,” you smiled.
Really you were just very indecisive. Clarisse settled for a burger place not too far away from the cinema. There weren't many people inside, so you were able to choose where to sit – a table next to the window. It was a booth seat, so you had your own booth each, facing each other, menu in hand.
“So, what are you choosing?” you asked her.
“I’ll take the Highwayman. You?”
“The Roadhouse looks good.”
Clarisse raised her hand and weaved at the waitress, when you grabbed her hand.
“Wait!”
“What?”
“Can you order for me please?”
She furrowed her brow, but nodded. You smiled. You only waited ten-or-so minutes before the waitress came back with your food. Like always, you checked the inside of your burger before eating it, you picked out the onions and the tomato.
“What are you doing?”
“I don’t like these.”
“Couldn’t you have asked the waitress to take them out.”
“No…”
“Give me your tomato then,” she opened her burger bun.
You were the one entertaining lunch. Clarisse asked questions about your life and you told her – you told her stories about your childhood, your school, your mom and she listened, nodding along. Once you were done, you took a cab and decided to go to the mall.
“We don’t have any money,” Clarisse stopped you when you were going to step into the mall.
“I do. Remember I paid for the tickets, and the food.”
“Yeah, but I thought you only had enough for these.”
“Nope. Well, remember how I said my mom is an opera singer. It was you fifty percent talent and fifty percent nepotism and generational wealth. Meaning I’m rich, I mean my mom but her love language is sending me money for not raising me,” you joked.
She stared at you, concerned.
“I’m kidding,” you grabbed her hand, “let’s shop.”
Clarisse refused to accept anything you’d set eyes on for her.
“Well, at least try on some of them, just to see.”
She agreed to it, which was a mistake because now that you knew her size, you could buy her everything she laid eyes on. She was trying on this dark green simple long sleeve tee shirt, and after she put it back, you took it with you.
“What are you doing?” she tried to grab the tee shirt back.
“I might want it for myself!” you hid it behind your back.
‘Doesn’t look like something you’d wear.”
“My style changes, it depends on my mood. Maybe I want us to have matching clothes.”
“Then why is there only one in your hand?”
You quickly grabbed another one. And then it was settled. You’d buy her things and then another copy for you – everything went, from boots to tee shirts to pants, and jackets. Then you went to a jewellery shop. You needed new rings because yours flew away from your hands during the last Capture the Flag – they were obviously a tad too big.
“Did you find anything you like?” you asked her.
“No, they aren't the most useful things to have.”
You pouted, and threw a bunch on the table.
“What are you doing?”
“Putting these back on the shelves, cause I chose half of these for you,” you sighed dramatically.
“Oh,” she took a look at the jewellery.
Various rings and bracelets.
“They’re great, I love them.”
“No you don’t.”
“You picked them out so yes, I do.”
“You don’t have to, it’s fine,” you sighed.
“Maybe you don’t have to buy all of it, just one of each.”
You nodded, and picked one ring for her, and two bracelets for each of you. You gave them to the seller to wrap them and left to look at other items. Clarisse soon joined you and soon enough the seller gave a little bag, you paid and left. Your hands were full of shopping bags, and before leaving you needed a little bit of rest so you two sat on the chairs in the resting area. Thankfully the mall wasn’t too crowded as it was still early in the afternoon on a random Tuesday.
“Huh!” you gasped pointing at something behind Clarisse.
“What?” she turned around swiftly, not seeing any threat.
“A photobooth!” you smiled.
You stood up, grabbed all of your bags and walked to the booth, hoping Clarisse was following you. You turned around, and Clarisse was still sitting still, legs crossed, leaned into the chair, staring at you. You held your hands together, and motionned her to come. She didn’t move for a good minute, but seeing how you weren’t going to move, she caved in and stood up.
“Sunshine,” she put her hands on your shoulders, “you can look at me for free, I won’t charge you, don’t worry.”
You rolled your eyes, smiling.
“You’ll thank me in a few years because of this. Pictures are the best kind of souvenirs.”
Clarisse got in first, the space was a tight fit, and you were glued to Clarisse, but you two fit in the frame so it was good. You put the coins inside, and waited for it to take the picture. But that was not good enough for Clarisse – she put her arm around your waist and scooped you onto her lap.
“Better?”
You nodded, staring at her.
“Better,” you confirmed.
You went to take a pose but too late, the four pictures were already taken.
“It’s fine, we’ll take another one.”
Another turned into another few more and you ended with a ton of pictures. By the time you left the mall it was already pretty late. Almost time to go home. But neither of you wanted that, so you went to the beach instead – main beach in the east. It was empty – people at this hour were all eating. You two sat on the sand, far from the shore.
“Did you have a great time?” you asked.
“Yes,” she looked at you, “did you?”
You nodded enthusiastically.
“Aren’t you glad you lost that bet against me?”
“Mmh,” she shrugged, “my option would’ve been just as good for me.”
“Well, I am glad I won. I prefer this option much better.”
Clarisse started to lay down but you grabbed her arm.
“Sand will get in your hair.”
“I’ll wash it tonight, it’s fine.”
You shook your head, and took off your blouse and laid it on the sand, behind Clarisse. She tried to protest, but you were quicker.
“I don’t want this day to end,” you admitted, staring at the waves. “I don’t think Mr. D will give us another authorisation anytime soon,” you laughed.
Clarisse stared at you, not saying anything. You arrived at camp only a week ago, and yet you two were already closer than she was with any of her siblings. You were nice to her, always rooting for her, and you were a great friend. Not many people were these things to the Ares kids.
“There this field trip around October,” Clarisse sat up again, “I suppose you’re not staying around the whole year. But it’d be great if you could come.”
“A field trip? To where?”
“It’s something we do once a year at camp,” she explained. “A trip to Olympus.”
You thought about it.
“Are you asking me to meet your father? I didn’t think we were already at this stage so early on."

Summary: Bucky takes his best girl to watch a Barbie movie and then spoils her with gifts.
Word count: 1.3k
Warnings: tooth-rotting fluff, Bucky being the best boyfriend, he's healing your inner child.
Author's note: it was inspired by Barbie movie when it just came out. I think that Bucky is that type of boyfriend who would do everything possible to make you happy<3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You had been excited about the Barbie movie since the day you found out that it was in the making, and you may or may not have annoyed Bucky with it like a million times.
You begged him to go see it on the day of the premiere, and even if at first he really wanted to say “no”, he couldn’t.
Yes, he was your grumpy old supersoldier, but he would do anything to make you smile.
When the tickets started to sell, it was almost impossible to find one because people went crazy about this movie.
When you finally had time to look for the tickets, they were sold out. Obviously. Even if you didn’t say anything, Bucky saw sadness written on your face when you didn’t get the tickets for the opening night, and it hurt him to see you that way.
So, as the best boyfriend in the world, he got them for you.
Yes, there was definitely one good thing about being a famous Avenger: you could get almost everything.
You and Sam also taught him how to use TikTok a few months ago, and besides a million videos of cats, he started to see Barbie-related content. He wasn’t really interested until he saw a video where a guy bought his girlfriend a doll and a lot of pink and cute things as a surprise.
Would you like it if he bought this for you? Did you even like dolls?
Bucky didn’t think about it too much; he just went to the store.
He probably stood in front of the shelf with Barbie dolls for way too long because, while he was looking for the one he thought you would like, a shop assistant came to offer him some help. Bucky explained his situation, and the young girl—Stassie, as he found out—was almost jumping with excitement to help him and said that his girlfriend was really lucky.
She showed Bucky two dolls that came out recently: one in the western look and one in a light pink dress. It was hard to pick one because both were really cute.
So he bought both.
Stassie gave Bucky a few tips on what else he could buy for you; that's why, after another hour in the mall, he went home with a big box full of random pink and cute stuff.
You weren’t at home, so he hid the box in a safe place and decided to give it to you after the movie.
Tumblr media
The day before the premiere, when you two were already getting ready to sleep, laying under the blanket and ready to cuddle while watching a movie, he silently gave you a white envelope.
“What is this?” You asked, looking at your weirdly smiley boyfriend.
“Open.”
You studied his face for a few seconds, but then sat up and carefully opened it to not rip whatever was inside.
“Bucky…” You whispered as two tickets with “Barbie” written on them fell into your hand. “You didn’t—how did you get it?” Your eyes were watery as you looked at him.
“That’s a secret. But I wanted to make you happy.” The soft look in his eyes made you want to cry, but instead you just jumped into his arms, leaving kisses all over his face.
“I fucking love you, James.”
“I love you more, doll.”
It was safe to say that he got his reward for being a thoughtful boyfriend, and you both fell asleep only a few hours later.
Tumblr media
You two walked out of the movie theater holding hands while you were still sobbing a little bit. It was an amazing experience, and you were overwhelmed with feelings. Bucky led you to the side so you wouldn’t bother other people, wrapped his hands around you, and held you close to him.
“Are you okay, baby?” He mumbled into your hair and kissed your temple.
“Yes. I’m so happy that we watched it. And that you came with me.” You wrapped your hands around Bucky’s neck and melted into him.
“I liked it too, actually.” You heard a deep chuckle.
“You know, I told you that you look great in pink, and you didn’t believe me.”
You obviously decided to stick to a non-official dress code, but it was hard to convince your boyfriend that he needed to wear something pink too. So the only thing that he liked in the store was a pink jean jacket, and you were okay with that.
An old lady that sat in the movie theater behind you with her grandkids said to Bucky that he was a really good young gentleman and that you two were perfect for each other.
Bucky didn’t really like any interactions with strangers, but you still noticed a light pink color on his cheeks and a sweet smile that he gave to the woman.
“If you think so, I’ll accept it, baby.” He was silent for a few seconds, but then smiled again and cupped your face with his metal hand so you would look at him. “I have something for you at home. Do you want to go there now and then order some food?”
“Something for me?” You frowned at him but still leaned into his touch. “And you should know better than to ask me whether I want to order food or not. I always do.”
Tumblr media
You were sitting in your living room on the couch, where Bucky told you to stay and wait for him. He went to your bedroom and came back in a few seconds, holding a big pink box.
“This is for you.” He put the box near you on the couch and sat on the free spot at the other end.
“For me? Why? I forgot about our anniversary or something?” You tried to laugh.
You opened the lid, and your mouth opened as you saw what was in there. Your shaking hands gently pulled out two boxes with dolls, and you took a few seconds to look at them properly, trying to blink away the tears in your eyes. Then you got the rest of the stuff: a pajama set, a journal, a candle, masks and bath bombs, and a lot of your favorite candies. Of course, everything was pink.
“I hope you like it. The girl at the store said–” You didn’t let him finish before you stood from your place and sat onto Bucky’s lap, hugging him as hard as you could, sobbing into his neck.
“Sh-h, baby, that’s okay.” He wrapped his arms around your body, gently swaying you from side to side.
“T-thank you so much, Bucky, really. You didn’t have to do it.” You moved back a little bit, and Bucky’s right hand immediately flew to your face to wipe away tears. You took one of the boxes with a doll on your lap and carefully took her out of the box. “She’s so pretty... I’ve never had a real Barbie before. They are expensive.”
“It is worth every dollar if it makes you happy. I saw this idea on that video app, and I wanted to give you something special.”
He looked at you with a soft smile while you were unpacking the second doll and then gently touching her hair and clothes. He thought that he gave this present more to the younger you, and it made him feel so happy.
“You’re amazing, you know that?” You put the doll down and took Bucky’s face in your hands. “I am so lucky to have such a person in my life. Thank you for everything. Not only for dolls, it’s all amazing. I love you, James.” You closed your eyes when he moved closer and put his forehead on yours.
“I’m the one who is lucky to have you. I’ll give you anything if it makes you smile this way. I love you.”

Would the ORV characters go to watch the Barbie movie with you?
Tumblr media
Characters : Yoo Joonghyuk, Yoo Sangah, Han Sooyoung, Uriel, Kim Dokja (derogatory)
Warning : contains spoilers for Barbie movie
Yoo Joonghyuk
YES. He'll take along Yoo Mia and Lee Jihye too. The funniest part is he'll also wear a pale pink shirt due to his sister's and lee jihye's insistence. He'll draw gazes EVERYWHERE.
But overall he would like the movie and it's underlying themes. He would also be impressed by how much effort it went into props. Definitely the kind of dude who would listen to you ramble about the movie and would put his own thoughts into your analysis in between.
Would really like the "I'm just Ken" song but will soon grow tired of it because Han Sooyoung kept singing it at every minor problem.
"Why don't you like Ken, Joonghyuk? I thought he would be relatable to you. "
"He brought misogyny to Barbieland. I would never do that."
Yoo Sangah
She would absolutely go with you. I just know she'll rock the barbie-coded outfit
Han Sooyoung
She might also tear up at the Barbie scene at the end, where she sees all the human memories (girl same). Her favorite character would be Barbie. You two will then go to a food court after the movie where you'll spend an hour or so discussing the movie and the layers at which it mirrors the real world.
"Do you think that Barbie was bound to become attracted to the concept of being human the moment she got named after her creator's daughter? I think that —"
She'll say smth like, "Im an Oppenheimer person " to annoy you at first but would go along with you in the end
The type of person who ends up talking too loudly during a movie accidentally, so you'll recieve some disapproving glances.
She'll. Get. Obsessed with the Ken song. She would hum or sometimes outright break into a song after the movie after some minor inconvenience happens.
Hsy : Where's my lemon candy stash??
Yjh : I threw it out. Your brain will rot even more along with that cheap sugar
Hsy : .. Doesn't seem to matter what I do, I'm always number 2, noone knows how hard I tried.. Oh—
Yjh : (tired)
Uriel
She would be the one to ask you out to the movie. Her excitement would rub off on you and y'all will be positively vibrating with anticipation when the movie starts.
Would also get asked out for photos with some people because she looked absolutely "angelic" with her long golden hair and pink outfit.
You know how some people started to ship Allan with Ken after the movie? Uriel accidentally saw a fan art and immediately jumped on board with the ship.
"All of Ken's clothes fit him!— is such a boyfriend statement tbh, don't you agree (y/n)? "
"... Actually, you're not wrong about that"
Kim Dokja
He wouldn't at first get the hype. He'll just assume it's one of those pop movies that are being popular with their mass marketing and aesthetic.
He was pleasantly surprised.
Would LOVE the underlying satirical themes and the songs. He'll watch the end credits too with you.
Is the type to sometimes look at their partner during the movie and observe their reactions to a particular scene.
Would click instantly with Alan for some reason. (You're not even surprised)
"I like Alan. He's just...there yknow. I hope he leaves Barbieland someday"

Jack yawned as he entered his rental loft in Boston where he'd been filming the instigators for the last few weeks. Miriam had joined him this week. She'd been LA finalizing some production details for her movie as well as working on a song for the upcoming Spider-Man movie. She did a song for Barbie co-written by Luke, Gia's boyfriend, and produced by her brother a week after his birthday. To keep herself in Boston she was doing some costume designs for her characters and recording some songs. Apparently back in 2018 when she was hooking up with Shawn, he and Teddy wrote a few demos for her and she wanted to use them. Shawn signed them off to her, only wanting writing credit and letting her and Teddy work on them by themselves. Miriam also hired Victoria Monet, PINKPANTHERESS, Metro Boomin, Antonio Pinto, and Clay to be part of the soundtrack and score.
“Oh,” he heard Miriam from the kitchen.
He checked his phone and it was eight in the morning, west coast time five. Jack walked closer to listen more clearly, out of curiosity.
“Do you know who it went to? I knew it was…she auditioned?” She laughed. “Yeah no wonder I didn't get it. If it was between me and the literal voice of Moana, I'd pick Auli'i too… okay I'll call y'all later so we can start making the filming schedule…yeah I got back from the studio like half an hour ago…bye mami.”
Miriam set down her phone and grabbed her mug from under the keurig. “I know you're in the hall nosy boots.” She said, pouring oatmilk in the mug.
“I didn't mean to eavesdrop.” He said, earning an arched eyebrow from her. “I swear, I just got here and heard you on the phone. Was that your mom?”
“Yeah, she's in New York with my brother for work. She got an email from Mean Girls and called me to let me know I didn't get it.” She said disappointed.
“I'm sorry,” he wrapped his arms around her. “Also why are they remaking Mean Girls?”
“Technically they're making the Broadway musical of Mean Girls into the movie, not remaking the 2004 movie.” Miriam explained.
“Is that the one we saw when we were in New York when we first started talking?” He asked.
“Yes,” she said, pushing herself up on the counter. “I auditioned for Janis. They were gonna make her gay y todo. But it's fine, if I had to lose a role to anyone it'd be Auli'i. Anyways, how was set tonight?”
“Tiring as hell. I don't know how the fuck you do night shoots back to back.” He yawned once again.
“I don't know how you can spend hours at the studio.” Miriam said, rubbing her temples. “My brain feels numb. I swear me, Victoria, and Teddy recorded like a hundred demos.”
“Are you going again tonight?”
“No, Victoria's husband and daughter are in town so we're not meeting up for a few days until Clay flies over.” Miriam sipped her drink.
“It's my day off. Wanna go to a Celtics game?” He asked.
“Why? So you can check out Jayson's ass?” She rolled her eyes.
“It's not my fault it's out there like that. You know I appreciate a nice ass. Why do you think I put a ring on it?” He nodded at her left hand.
“You're annoying.” Miriam hopped off the counter. “I'm going to shower then go to bed for a few hours.”
“Can I join you?” Jack said, soften his voice like Puss in Boots im Shrek.
Miriam didn't respond. She put her coffee in the fridge and upstairs, to their room. She took off her clothes and tossed them in the clothing hamper. She twisted her curls up, clipping them with her hair claw. She washed her hair the day before. She set the shower how wanted and slipped in.
Jack came into their room a few minutes later. Miriam left the bathroom door open while she showered, unknowingly giving him a show. It took him back to the night they finally had sex and how he was fighting all his urges because he wanted to be respectful.
That night was probably the most intimate he'd been with anyone. Not sexually, but emotionally. It was like he was giving Miriam a part of himself for her to keep forever. It took everything in him not to tell her that he was in love with her. He was willing to give her the world and more if she asked for it. Even to this day he was willing to.
“Hello?” Miriam waved her hand in front of Jack's face.
“Sorry I zoned out, thinking.” He said, laying back on the bed.
“About?” she asked, rubbing lotion on her legs.
“How you seduced me into your bed that one time in Atlanta.” He joked.
“I had to. My poor pussy needed to feel your pp.” She said solemnly.
“Does she want to feel it now?” He smirked.
Jack placed his hand on her thigh and slowly went up to her core. The baggy t-shirt she wore covered her thighs, so when he pushed up her stomach, he was pleasantly surprised to see she wasn't wearing any panties. Miriam grabbed his hand and brought it to her mouth, sucking his ring and middle fingers then she put his hand back where it was. Jack cupped her core rubbing his hand with her arousal.
Miriam whimpered, dropping her head back. She gripped the comforter as Jack slid his fingers in her. He leaned onto her and kissed her neck. Miriam could feel him grin against her as his fingers moved inside her, trying to set a good rhythm for him to take her. She moaned as his fingers fucked into her at a deliciously slow pace. She rolled her hips as if she were riding his fingers. Jack smirked and pumped his fingers faster. He pressed his thumb to her clit.
“I'm close.” Miriam moaned out. “I want to come with you in me.”
“Whatever you want.” Jack nodded in agreement.
Miriam laid him down on the bed and straddled him. She pulled off her shirt. When she got it over head, she felt one of her hoop earrings come off. They were flimsy and when she did anything extraneous, like sex, they would fall off. They were the ones that inspired Jack's ‘Imma fuck the earrings off'a you’ lyric. She climbed off the bed to look for them. She didn't want Daisy to accidentally step on it and hurt herself. Her hoop landed on the other end of the room. She took off its pair and connected them together, placing them on her jewelry tray at the top of the dresser.
It suddenly hit her at how quiet the room was. Usually by now Jack would've complimented her ass or failed to get flirty with her. She looked over to Jack and he was fast asleep. Miriam carefully rolled him so he was more comfortable and pulled a blanket on top of him. She grabbed another blanket and laid by him. In his sleep Jack patted around and pulled her to his chest. Within minutes Miriam also fell into a deep slumber.

Jack looked down at his phone to see if Miriam texted back. They had originally planned on going to the Celtics game together but she got a message from none other than Susan Sarandon. She had read Miriam’s script and liked it. Susan happened to be in Boston and invited Miriam out to dinner to talk about the movie. Jack had to convince Miriam to say yes because she didn't want to back down from their original plans but he knew that Susan Sarandon was one of Miriam's idols when it came to musicals. She couldn't miss out on meeting with her.
Throughout the evening Miriam sent him updates. While it was mostly her texting him keyboard smashes, Jack knew she was enjoying her evening. She also sent him a voice note of her dry heaving when she was letting him know she was going to see the Rocky Horror Show with Susan and that after she was going straight home to cry.
It was for the best. Miriam had been filming herself making cocktails with PHOCUS, juice, and any alcohol there was in the house. So she needed to sleep it off. She was very tipsy when Susan Sarandon invited her to dinner. Miriam was fairly sober by the time Beto drove her to the restaurant. Before that she had forgotten she put on clip-on bangs and freaked out when they fell off from her jumping and dancing.
The game ended not too long ago and Jack went with Jayson to an after party at some private venue. He wasn't planning on staying long; just make it known that he was there. He got a notification that Miriam tagged him in a post so he went to see what it was. It was a video of him and Jayson after the game. He pulled his phone to his ear to hear what was playing. It was the beginning of Chloé Bailey's song ‘Body Do’ before she started singing. He commented under it and liked a few encouraging the bromance between him and Jayson. To egg on the joke he posted some pictures of Miriam calling her his ‘bro’.
He was about to lock his phone when he got a message from Miriam. He half expected to see her complain that he posted a cringe picture of her but she sent him: wya, hoe. He replied back that he was at the party. She sent back an eye roll emoji then: but where in the venue? I can't see you. Unless you're fucking Jayson, then tell me so I can watch 🤭. He responded with: you wish you can watch, but she didn't respond back. Jack looked up from his phone and scanned the place for her. He didn't remember what she wore specifically, just that it was red. He finally found her across the bar talking to Kaleob Young, her ex.
Jack saw him at the game, where he sat for  85% of the game. They acknowledged each other when the game ended but they didn't talk to each other. After the stunt Kaleob pulled where he implied that he and Miriam got back together when they didn't, Jack didn't fuck with him. But in the beginning of the party he did approach Jack because his girlfriend was a fan and wanted to say hi.
He sipped his Phocus drink watching Miriam. Her whole demeanor changed. She gave her ex the nastiest glare and jabbed his chest with her index and middle fingers, making a two finger gun shape. She turned away and Kaleob went after her. Jack immediately followed them to the parking lot. He stood back, giving them space.
“You’re so full of shit, Kaleob! You fucking begged me to take you back all  ago. ‘I’ll be better. I don’t deserve you. But I love you. Please, when I go to the NBA, move with me. Marry me. Have my babies.’ How the fuck do you say that shit when you were messaging someone the entire time?” Miriam yelled.
“It wasn't the entire time, and we never hooked up.” Kaleob tried to defend himself.
“It doesn't fucking matter!” She argued.
“How about when you and Jack hooked up before we got together? You don't see me bringing that shit up.”
Jack frowned wondering how the fuck did he get roped into their argument.
“Are you serious? At the time he was just some guy I hooked up with him. We never exchanged contact information– why am I even trying to defend myself?” Miriam shook her head.
“Miriam, why do you even care in the first place?” He crossed his arms and took a step. “I thought you and Jack were doing good. Why are you stuck in the past? I moved on and I think you should too. It's not healthy.”
“You always do this! I call you out on your shit and somehow you turn it on me and make me think I'm overreacting, so I apologize for your shit.” Miriam said, her voice cracked.
“Whatever, Miriam.” Kaleob sighed and walked back to the party.
Miriam cursed and kicked a parking sign post in frustration. She yelped in pain. Jack took it as his sign to approach her.
“How much did you hear?” She asked when he was within earshot.
“Enough.” he shrugged.
“So the whole thing?”
“Yeah.” Jack nodded.
“He's right,” she sniffled, wiping her mocos. “I shouldn't give a fuck about him. But I can't help–”
She broke into sobs. Jack wrapped his arms around her. He rubbed her back, letting her release everything she had in there.
“I'm sorry.” Miriam took a step back. “I'm with you now and we're engaged and…”
“Miriam, it doesn't matter. You found out some fucked up shit and you're allowed to feel some type of way about it.” Jack said softly.
She let out a shaky breath. “I hate this feeling. I hate that he took me back to when we were together and he would gaslight me over shit.”
“I could tell Jayson to accidentally break his leg or something during practice.” Jack suggested to pacify things.
“Kinda ironic I posted Body Do to you and Jayson when Kaleob was the one texting and messaging other girls.” Miriam laughed to herself.
“I mean– actually nevermind it's too soon.”
“You're annoying.” Miriam rolled her eyes, standing on her tippy toes.
“You say that but I'm gonna nut in you when you want me to.” He chuckled. He cradled her face and kissed her. “Let's go home so you can tell me about Susan Sarandon.”
“You're not telling your little boyfriend bye?” she asked.
Jack shook his head. “Nah, Jayson knows to back off when you're in town

Jack woke up in the middle of the night thirsty. He reached across the bed for Miriam's hydroflask when he noticed she wasn't in bed. He checked the bathroom in their room then the bathroom in the bedroom across their room. Miriam had a habit of using the bathrooms outside their rooms when she would go number too. But right now that isn't the case. He went down the hall to the stairs and from there he saw her in the living room writing in a dark green leather-bound journal. Jack had seen her with it here and there, but he didn't know the contents inside. He may be nosy, but not too nosy that he didn't respect boundaries.
“Hey,” he said, walking up to her.
“Hi,” she said, placing her pen in her journal.
“Couldn't sleep?” He asked, climbing on top of her so she could play with his hair.
“No. I tried watching a movie but I couldn't concentrate. Same thing when I tried reading The Cruel Prince because a lot of fans and even the author think I could make a good Jude. So I came down and started writing my little poems.” She said, twisting Jack's curls.
Jack sat up and looked at her incredulously. “You write poetry and I'm just finding out?”
“I don't do it often. I haven't written in forever but working with Teddy and Victoria kinda got me back in a groove.” she reached for her journal.
“You don't have to show me. Journals are personal and I don't want to overstep.” He said.
“I know. If I didn’t want to share this with you I wouldn't have.” She said, handing him her journal. “It's kinda based on the movie ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’.”
Jack nodded and proceeded to read:
I don't care what people say. We both know I couldn't change you. I guess you could say the same. Can't rearrange truth, I've never seen someone lie like you do. So much, even you start to think it's true. Get me out of this loop.
So now we play our separate scenes. Now, now she's in my bed, mm-mm, layin' on your chest. Now I'm in my head, wonderin' how it ends
I'll be the first to say, "I'm sorry". Now you got me feelin' sorry. I showed you all my demons, all my lies. Yet you played me like Atari. Now it's like I'm lookin' in the mirror. Hope you feel alright when you're in her. I found a good boy and he's on my side. You're just my eternal sunshine.
So I try to wipe my mind. Just so I feel less insane. Rather feel painless. I'd rather forget than know, know for sure. What we could've fought through behind this door. So I close it and move
So now we play our separate scenes. Now, now he's in your bed, and layin' on my chest. Now I'm in my head, and wonderin' how it ends.
“Objectively, this is good. If you rearrange it you can make this a song.” He said when he finished reading.
“Really?” She furrowed her eyebrows.
“Yeah,” he nodded. He reached for the sticky notes and began scribbling. “You can repeat the ‘I'll be the first…’ line and make that the chorus and then add a bridge that can be used as the outro for it. You can add a subtle trap beat or some r&b with pop…and I'm rambling. I'm sorry you were showing me your poems and I took over and tried to make it a song. You probably don't want your shit aired out like that–”
Miriam leaned over and kissed him. “It's okay.” She cut him off. “I like how your mind works and I love listening to you talk about music.”
“Honestly I didn't hear anything you just said. You kissed me and my brain shut off.” he joked.
“And yet you're still corny.”
“More like horny.” He gestured to his crotch.
“Seriously?” she playfully rolled her eyes at him.
“How can I not be? You're in panties and a crop top.”
He gently pushed her on the couch and kissed her before she could make a funny remark. He pulled away and made his way down her throat. Jack nipped and sucked her neck while he pushed down the thin straps of her top. Miriam helped him get her out of it. They giggled into each other's mouths as they struggled because they didn't want to break the kiss.
Jack knelt in front of her and pushed down his boxer-briefs, just enough to pull out his cock. He slowly stroked himself, taking all of Miriam. They haven't been together since his birthday. The few days Miriam had been in Boston her studio schedule didn't line up with Jack's filming schedule. The most was when he fingered her that morning.
Then earlier in the day when they woke up from their five hour nap, they did other things around the house then went their separate ways. Jack to the game and Miriam to dinner with Susan Sarandon. After they got back from the party Jack helped her post about meeting Susan Sarandon because she was shaking from all of the overwhelming emotions she was feeling. Then they fell asleep watching Bullet Train.
“Don't judge if I come in three seconds.” Jack mumbled against her lips as he tugged down her panties.
“I'm literally the least judgemental person ever.” She said solemnly.
Jack gave her a look before zoning in on her bare chest. He ran his thumb on her sensitive nipples. Miriam leaned back, giving him better access, and quietly moaned out as he gently nipped under her breasts. Both of his hands were on her nipples, twisting and rubbing them. His tongue traced the pert peaks.
He found her mouth again, kissing her slowly as he reached for her hips. Jack lined him up and slowly pushed his cock into her. Miriam moaned out in pleasure. She pressed her forehead against his and closed her eyes contently.
“Good?” He asked, pushing back her hair.
“Yeah, missed feeling you in me.” She sighed.
“Me too.” He slowly pulled out then thrusted in her.
He tilted her head up so he could kiss her. His lips and tongue went at the pace he thrusted in and out of her. He wrapped one of her legs around him, bringing them closer as he took her. Her breath hitched at how good it felt. Jack must have noticed, and continued thrusting in that spot. The familiar feeling came over her once more. Miriam was about to come, and Jack knew it. His thrusts got more precise, hitting where she needed him.
“Jack,” she whimpered.
“Wanna hear you louder.” He grunted in her ear. “Tell me who's fucking you this good.”
“You?” she panted.
“You who?” Jack asked.
“The chocolate milk.” Miriam giggled.
Jack didn't react to what she said. He was in the zone, trying to get her to climax. The determination of him still going after she tried to make a joke pushed her over the edge. She repeated Jack’s name over and over until her high faded. Jack continued thrusting in and out of her. His thrusts grew sloppy.
After a few minutes passed, he stilled, shuddering he quietly moaned out, "shit," as he came inside her. He relaxed his body plopping on top of her. Their heavy breathing filled the room as they tried to calm themselves.
While using his boxer-briefs to clean them, Jack asked. “Did you say chocolate milk earlier?”

Barbie
Summary: Bucky takes his best girl to watch a Barbie movie and then spoils her with gifts.
Words count: 1.4k
Warnings: fluff, NO SPOILERS
Author's note: So basically, I wrote it for myself because I had no one to watch this amazing movie with, and it gave me some comfort. I believe that Buck would’ve actually enjoyed it too because he’s so sweet and cute.
masterlist my ao3 ko-fi
The day before the premiere, when you two were already getting ready to sleep, laying under the blanket and ready to cuddle while watching a movie, he silently gave you a white envelope.
“What is this?” You asked, looking at your weirdly smiley boyfriend.
“Open.”
You studied his face for a few minutes, but then sat up and carefully opened it to not rip whatever was inside.
Not only for the dolls, it’s all amazing. I love you, James.” You closed your eyes when he moved closer and put his forehead on yours.
“I’m the one who is lucky to have you. I’ll give you anything if it makes you smile this way. I love you.”

Hello! Can I ask for a scenario where Spider-Noir meets the reader who is a Barbie? I LOVED THE NEW BARBIE MOVIE and wanted to know how Spider-Noir would get along with a Barbie reader. I think they would make a nice couple, they are the total Barbenheimer.
You can have them meet in the events of the first movie by making reader Barbie as spider-woman or by having them meet in the spider-noir dimension. As you like, but I would like to emphasize the great color contrast between the dark palette of Noir with the colorful pinks of the Barbie reader.
Crystal ✨💞

pretty in pink, great in gray
"oh, and before anything else, there's someone who's running fashionably late. sorry fellas, she had to fix up her makeup and hair, it's a very important priority of hers, as you can see." noir told the others as they looked at him in confusion. soon, their spider senses all turned on as they sensed yet another one of their kind in the room. "oh, well hello, cuties!" exclaimed a cheery voice from above as they heard the faint clacking of stilettos on the ceiling, pretty pink and glittery ones, in fact. they looked up and saw, hanging from the ceiling, a spider woman dressed in hot and light pink. she waved to them, with the others awkwardly waving back at her confused.
the spider woman from above shot out a pretty pink web from her pink webshooter and swung down after doing a somersault in the air and landing on her feet, with one in front of the other as they pointed outwardly in the opposite directions, a bright smile on her face still as she looked at everyone; all of which were thoroughly impressed by her acrobatic capabilities. "can you please adopt me?" gwen whispered underneath her breath as she looked at the woman in front of them intently. the spider woman giggled and walked forward to extend her hand to them all.
"spider barbie, at your service! it's so lovely to meet you all, and you, dear... of course, i will adopt you! would you like to live in my dream house or would you like me to arrange for the construction women back in barbieland to design a house of your choosing?" she asked gwen as gwen held on to miles from both sheer excitement and thoroughly getting weirded out. "did she just say she was barbie, or..." "pretty sure she said she was barbie." miles replied in a manner that showed he was just as stunned as gwen was.
noir moved to the front of their little group and shook barbie's hand first. "nice to meet you, barbie. i'm parker, peter benjamin parker, not to be confused with this guy." noir said as he pointed his thumb at peter b, who folded his arms and shrugged. barbie smiled widely at the monochromatic man as she held his hand tightly and shook it back. "and nice to meet you, peter!" she responded as she noted how dark peter's whole get up was. "i must say, i love the shades you've got going on here. i was considering making a darker outfit for myself, but pink feels more natural for me. i love how you look by the way, it's so... mysterious." she said as peter chuckled and scratched a little at the side of his head. dare he say miss barbara here was flustering him a little with her charisma and cheeriness.
"why, thank you, barbie. i love the abundance of... pink in your costume. very striking, and very powerful, i must say." he said with a slight smile underneath his mask as barbie's smile widened. she thanked peter, and the two went on and on about each other's costumes and quirks that came with them. they were hitting it off so fast, surprisingly. the group was actually questioning if what they were seeing was reality; because even though all of them are quite weird already as mutant spider people (and animal) a real, live, talking and walking barbie was also a mutant spider woman and was getting along well with the dark, brooding, and mysterious version of peter parker?
"so... care to maybe visit my dream house sometime, peter?" barbie offered noir, to which he felt a little flushed in the face at the prospect of visiting the beautiful woman's plastic home. "i... i'd be delighted to, my dear." he responded, to which barbie clasped her hands together in delight. soon, she wrapped her arms around noir, who tensed up a little at the abruptness of the situation, but loved every second of it. "this has got to be the craziest sight i've ever seen in my life." peter b said in tired disbelief as gwen and miles held themselves back from begging barbie to show them more of her pastel pink moves, and with peni and ham teasing them from behind about this new little couple they have in the group. well, not quite couple yet; barbie can be barbie without her ken, or peter--but she can be her own spider barbie with a spider man. it's not spider barbie with her spider man, it's spider barbie and spider man.

I saw your reblog of the Sound of Music gifset and may I be so bold as to suggest: IceMav Sound of Music AU plus ABO verse?
Alpha!Ice as the slowly thawing captain, omega!Mav as the governess? TG'22 class as the kids?
AHHHHH HELLO FRIEND WELCOME TO MY INBOX THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING IN (and for that delicious gif of christopher plummer as 6 year old me’s dilfsexual awakening… 👀) AND FOR LEAVING SUCH A YUMMY TREAT FOR ME!!!!
i was SO delighted when i saw this ask because if there are two things i love it’s 1) the sound of music and 2) icemav so naturally i would love to combine the sound of music and icemav right? FORTUNATELY i already have discussed this before with both @nicejobkid and @beterparker so i have Thoughts about this.
(i also have so many thoughts about the sound of music being mav’s favorite movie in canon but i can’t find the post i made on that right now so i’m just going to sit quietly and seethe)
but YES icemav sound of music au … the a/b/o verse was NOT included in our original draft but hey, what the hell! i can most certainly get behind it. i don’t have that many ideas for the a/b/o aspect of it right now but i love love LOVE the sound of music aspect of it…
just, ooooh i love the idea of mav being the one to teach ice to open his heart again, and just being so achingly mav that ice is helpless to stop himself from falling so hard and so fast after he starts to dethaw again… i love the idea of the daggers being their kids too bc those kids would ABSOLUTELY try to play matchmaker after things start to heat up between ice and mav… maybe we could have a little fun and spruce the au up with some original scenes too because i just know that hangman would be pushing ice and mav together like barbies, little shit that he is… phoenix too bc anything hangman does she has to do better LOL
and on mav’s side ugh the idea of him developing a very ill-advised crush on his hot boss who wants nothing to do with him is unfortunately so on-brand 😔 especially one he thinks is majorly out of his league (because in this au ice certainly would be)…
it’s interesting to think about how mav’s circumstances might affect his personality a little bit, the same with ice… but the most interesting and wholesome change to explore might be his faith (if one were to stick close to canon and make the abbey his home like maria) vs his sexuality and like… father viper (FATHER VIPER WOULD BE SO FUNNY) giving mav some very supportive lgbt ally parent advice about god loving all his children etc etc <3
maybe that would even be why mav leaves at first bc he’s not just in love with his boss who happens to be engaged to somebody else, he’s in love with a MAN … but love wins in the end and they all live happily ever after <3
anyway since you mentioned a/b/o thoughts like i said, i still don’t have many but uh . there might be something there with captain von trapp’s whistle 😏

summary: a cute date involving your boyfriend, the barbie movie, and one strawberry shortcake milkshake. fluff!! boyfriend!parkjimin
I apologize if there are any minor holes or grammatical errors. feedback is welcome, but please be respectful. :)
main masterlist
*any similarities to other fics are accidental*
*warnings: f reader, boyfriend jimin, kissing, fluff!!*
word count ~2.2k
fluffy jimin drabble in honor of valentine’s day!! (to those who celebrate) sorry i slightly rushed through this, but i wanted to post! ❤️🫶🏼🌹
also no spoilers for the barbie movie! 🩷
“Babe please,” you whine, tugging at your boyfriend’s arm, “Just put the outfit on!”
You’re currently in you and your boyfriend’s bedroom, clothes scattered everywhere with the controversial outfit laid out on the bed.
“No!” Retorts Jimin, crossing his arms sassily.
Why were you arguing? Because today was July 21st, and the Barbie Movie was out. All you wanted was a cute little movie date with your boyfriend, and of course you had to dress on theme. But someone was being stubborn.
“Babe, it’s just a pink outfit! I wanted us to look cute together for the movie,” you pout, giving up and sitting on the bed.
Truthfully, the outfit wasn’t that bad. A pink and aqua striped button up with pink shorts. But one might’ve thought you were asking Jimin to wear an inflatable costume with the way he was acting.
“I know sweets, but can’t I just wear my usual clothing? What’s so special about this movie anyways?” Jimin asks, coming to sit next to you.
You trace the flowers on the bedspread, unsure of what to say. Why did you want him to wear this? Maybe because you were looking forward to this movie, maybe because you wanted to be a cute matching couple.
Jimin sighs, wrapping his arms around you and you feel the soft fabric of his sweatshirt.
“Okay. I’m sorry love, if you really want me to wear this I will if it makes you happy. I want you to be happy, my love,” Jimin says softly, giving you a soft peck on your nose, making you giggle.
“There’s my sweets’ smile!” Jimin then proceeds to give you a smattering of kisses all over your face. Both your cheeks, your lips, your forehead, the small freckle on your chin.
You laugh, saying “Jimin, stop! Babe, please!”
Jimin does stop, giving you one last smooch on your lips.
“Okay, I’ll go change. You need to as well!” He says, pushing you to the closet, “I know you’ve been planning this outfit for a while!”
Yes, you had been. Ever since you found out the release date for the movie you had rushed to find the perfect outfit.
~
As soon as you saw the trailer and Barbie’s pink gingham dress, you were inspired. Dragging Jimin with you (much to his dismay), you shopped until you found pink and white gingham shorts overalls.
“Babe look! It’s perfect!” You cheered to Jimin, grabbing it off the rack.
Jimin smiled at you, happy that you were happy.
“Yes it is. Now, what shoes are you wearing with it?”
You hadn’t even thought of shoes!
“Ummm…I’m not sure. What do you think?” You ask, going up to the counter to pay.
After exiting the story, you two had stopped for a smoothie. Sitting in the booth, you contemplate your shoe options.
“I think you should find some cute sneakers to go with it,” said Jimin, putting his arm around your shoulder.
You nod, excited at the prospect of new shoes (what can you say? you’re a shopaholic).
“Okay! Let’s go!”
You barely give Jimin time to finish his smoothie before you’re leading him to a shoe store.
After much scouring, you find the perfect sneakers that are white with a pink bow on the side.
Jimin paid for them, ignoring your protests.
“Let me spoil you, sweets. It’s my job as your boyfriend,” he said, pulling out his fancy credit card.
Now, you pull on the overalls with a plain white tee beneath it and spritz yourself with perfume that Jimin got for your two year anniversary.
“Almost ready babe!” You call to Jimin, grabbing your pink quilted heart purse. A quick check in the mirror shows that your pink bows in your hair were still intact.
Opening the closet door, you stop in your tracks when you see Jimin. His shirt has the top button open, showing off his collarbones and he really is your Ken. Your other half.
You swear that you fall even more in love.
“Wow, Jimin. You look perfect. I love you so much,” you breathe out, walking over to kiss him.
“You look perfect too, mi amor, and I love you as well,” says Jimin, returning the sweet kiss.
After you pull away Jimin buries his head in your neck, happy that you’re wearing the sweet perfume he got you.
“Mmm…love, you smell like strawberries…” Jimin mumbles, not realizing he was making me blush.
“Let’s go!” You say, quickly bounding to get your shoes on and trying to ignore your heated face.
Jimin laughs but follows you and you both put your shoes on and head out.
~
At the theatre Jimin buys popcorn and a drinks, telling you “Let me treat you. It’s my duty as a good boyfriend!”
Munching on popcorn you two find a seat in the middle of the almost-empty theatre.
“We almost have the whole place to ourselves!” You whisper to Jimin, glancing around. There’s only another couple in the back and a family in the front.
The trailers start, and you and Jimin always have play a game to guess what the movie is before the trailer is over.
“Wonka! Starring Timothy Chalamet!” You cheer quietly, smiling at Jimin’s eye roll.
“Whatever. You just think he’s hot,” Jimin grumbles.
You shrug. “Maybe so. But I still guessed it!”
Eventually, the movie starts. The opening scene was surprising, but you quickly were invested.
From Barbie’s fabulous outfits to Gloria’s speech, you loved it.
At the end, when ‘What Was I Made For?’ was playing, you felt a tear roll down your cheek. The song touched your soul and this movie truly resonated with you.
“My love, please don’t cry,” murmers Jimin, reaching over to gently wipe the tear away.
This sweet gesture just makes you tear up more.
“Amor, what’s wrong?” Jimin asks, concerned when you don’t stop crying. He hates to see you sad, and would do anything to make you happy.
“I-it’s just that-“ sniffle “-the message in the movie is so m-meaningful to me and I-“ sniffle “-just love you so much and appreciate you and the way you’ve never made me feel stupid and-“
“My love, you are not stupid. You are so smart and you mean the world to me,” Jimin says, reaching in to hug you tightly. “I am so glad that this movie touched your soul so much, and you will always be my one and only.”
Hugging Jimin back feels like the warm feeling you get when you eat hot soup. It starts with the heat in your stomach and then becomes warmth that spreads to the rest of your body. You feel true happiness.
“Thank you baby,” you whisper into Jimin’s shoulder, hugging him (if possible) more snugly.
Jimin kisses your head softly.
After the movie you two head out, Jimin’s jacket slung over your shoulders. Drunk on love you two giggle like lovesick teenagers as you leave and go into the chilly evening air.
“Babe I don’t want to go hoooome,” you whine to Jimin, climbing into the passenger seat of his car.
“Okay, we don’t have to yet. Where do you want to go?” Jimin asks, pulling out of the movie theatre parking lot.
“I don’t know…let’s just drive around,” you suggest.
Jimin drives around and there’s nothing much open. Then you get a glimpse of a lit up neon sign down the road.
“Baby! Let’s go there, it looks open!” You point to the sign and Jimin obliges.
Jimin parks and you see that it’s a small diner.
“Looks like it’s still open. Let’s go in!” Jimin exclaims, opening the door for you. He’s ever the gentlemen.
The bell jingles as we step inside the vintage looking diner, with worn black and white tile and pink leather booths. Matching stools line the counter and milkshake machines with glasses are behind it.
“Wow. I’ve never been in here before. Maybe it’s new?” You ask, partly to yourself.
“Maybe so. C’mon, let’s order something!” Jimin practically drags you to the counter and you two sit next to each other on the spinny barstools.
There’s no one eating, but you do hear a couple sounds from in the kitchen, a sign that someone’s here.
“Be with you in a moment!” Calls a cheery voice.
You and Jimin look around at the diner, admiring the jukebox in the corner while you wait.
A minute later a brown haired girl comes out of the kitchen holding a notepad.
“Hello! Sorry about the wait. Welcome to the Magic Shop Diner. My name’s Amelia and I’ll take your order today! What can I get for you two?”
You and Jimin look at the menu on the wall, unsure of what to order because of the variety of choices.
“What would you recommend?” Jimin finally asks, after several moments of hesitation.
“Well, for couples there’s a strawberry shortcake milkshake special! A large milkshake with two straws for a lower price!” Peppy Amelia says.
“What about it love? Do you want the strawberry shortcake special?” Jimin asks you.
You think about it. Come to think of it, a milkshake would really hit the spot. And a pink one? Perfect for the movie you just saw.
“Sure, but only if you want it,” you say, grasping Jimin’s hand.
“If that’s what you want, let’s get it. We’ll take one strawberry shortcake milkshake with the couple special please,” orders Jimin.
“Great! I’ll get that for you as soon as possible.” Amelia goes to the milkshakes machine and starts to make it.
“I’m excited babe. It’s perfect for the Barbie movie! I have to take a picture of it before we eat it,” you say, thinking about how aesthetically pleasing the milkshake will look in the diner.
“Sure, sweets. I’ll take some of you with the milkshake too,” Jimin says fondly, grinning at the beam in your eyes.
You lay your head on Jimin’s shoulder, his hand warming yours. Closing your eyes for a moment, you think about how happy you feel. The perfect boyfriend with the perfect movie for a perfect date.
“Your order is ready!” Amelia says, breaking your train of thought.
You open your eyes and lift your head up. There on the counter is a pink milkshake piled with whipped cream, a slice of strawberry shortcake, and a cherry on top. It looks like a sugary paradise.
“It’s perfect! Thank you, Amelia,” you gush, whipping out your phone. After snapping some photos of the milkshake, Jimin takes your phone and tells you to pose. You slide the drink closer to you and grin. Then you mime taking a sip, but something doesn’t feel right.
“Babe! I need you in a picture with me. Let’s take a selfie!” You hold out your phone as you and Jimin take a sip of the milkshake together. Afterwards, Jimin presses a kiss to your lips, and you barely stop yourself from dropping your phone. His lips taste like strawberry and you swear it’s like tasting heaven.
“Mmm, babe!” You say, your voice slightly muffled.
Jimin takes the hint and pulls away, smirking at your flustered face. “What’s wrong, my love?”
You glare at him. “I want to eat the milkshake now! And you’re distracting me!”
Jimin’s smirk melts into a cheesy grin. “Okay, fine. Let’s devour this thing!”
After much slurping and many ‘mmms’ you and Jimin finally finish the milkshake.
“That was so good,” you moan, once again resting your head on Jimin’s shoulder. Tummy full, all you want to do is curl up and sleep off the sugar.
“I agree. Hey, Amelia, how much do we owe?” Jimin asks, catching the attention of the brunette.
“Well…it’s on the house because you two are too cute!” Amelia cheers. You swear you see heart eyes as Amelia looks at you and Jimin.
“No, really, how much did we owe you?” Jimin presses, refusing to accept the free drink.
“Really, nothing,” Amelia assures, pushing away Jimin’s cash.
“But it was so good! Surely we need to pay,” you protest, seeing Amelia shake her head.
“Fine. Then we’ll just leave a huge tip,” says Jimin, leaving the cash in the tip jar by the cash register.
“Oh, well you really don’t have to!” Amelia says, but you can tell she’s happy about it.
“Yes, we do. And we’ll recommend this place to our friends too!” You say, already imagining the future double dates you and your friends can do here.
“Well, we appreciate it. You folks are so cute! I hope you have a great evening,” Amelia says cheerily.
“You too!”
You and Jimin leave with your arms around each other.
Once you get inside the car, you sigh. “I’m so happy right now, babe. I hope we can always be this happy.”
Jimin turns to look at you for a brief moment, smiling. “Me too. I love you so much, my love.”
“And I love you.” You yawn wide, the night’s activities catching up to you.
“Take a nap, amor. I’ll wake you when we get home,” Jimin says, giving me a blanket from the backseat.
“Okay, thanks baby.”
You close your eyes and fall asleep, wondering, “How did I get so lucky?”
I am trying to write more small fics/drabbles! hope you enjoyed reading. 🩷🫶🏼

here's my favorite HCs for Jason Todd
6'2" = 1.8796 m (apparently). in other words, he IS just the teeniest bit TALLER than Bruce Wayne, his dad. & it's even better when they're both in costume, because his boots add a teeny bit MORE (ofc it's offset by Bruce's Batman boots, but stfu). he's a big boy who Alfred insists is "still growing" & therefore he deserves lots of food. specifically, bread, which he's always had a fondness for. that, hot dogs & spicy noodles (pad thai, Nona's* spaghetti, Alfred's secret recipe chicken noodle soup)!!
he's half Latino & half Italian. yes, I know that "Todd" & "Haywood" are names of English origin. I am aware. & I don't care. he speaks Spanish as a second language & Italian as a speaking-only third (since some of the families in the neighborhood know some Italian). yeah, he was born with auburn (reddish-brown) hair, but he dyes it black. no one knows why & no one asks. and ofc there's the white streak, which almost magically pops back up every time he tries to dye it.
his eyes were more blue, maybe a glassy hazel when he was Robin. after the Pit, dark green leaked into his irises, even more so when he gets incredibly angry/upset.
his butt is toned, duh, but his thighs and pecs are the stuff of legend. he just naturally has a broader chest and thicc thighs (that can crush watermelons--and they will, if you're close with him and you ask nicely, promising a gift of cookies or cuddles in return). he's actually kind of self-conscious about his thighs, because they're so big.
he's always had a soft spot for innocent creatures, to the point where he's unfazed that they're attracted to his presence. strays try to follow him home when he patrols, to the point where he keeps a bag of cat food in each of his hideouts. one, out of the many reasons why he has a motorcycle is to outrun the strays. when he visits Selina, he plans to stay for at least two hours because they're all gonna lie on him, and who is he to move?? also, babies calm down as soon as he makes noise (speaking normally, singing a lullaby, goo-go-gah lingo, etc.).
he's pansexual, but demisexual and demiromantic. I mean, the guy had a rough childhood home, he was ratted out by his biological mom, and he still has issues with most of his family. ironically, he tends to put his heart into everything he sees as worth doing, even when that comes to people he doesn't know. that's why he takes being a vigilante so seriously. he wants other Gothamites to have a better city than he had growing up, even if it'll never be free of crime.
you bet your ass he likes the classics, namely The Prince, Hamlet, some Jane Austen, and The Catcher in the Rye. do not ask him if he has read Moby Dick or Ulysses. he has (at least, partially) and he hates them both.
he respects women, and with the exception of Alfred, he tends to prefer them to men when it comes to working and doing platonic activities. is being a BIG Wonder Woman fan related to this? no. but he is one.
he saw Barbie. he read about Oppenheimer before the movie came out, and he wasn't amused.
Jason can't do horror movies, especially ones like Saw, or anything that has to do with psychological scares or torturing characters. considering how he died, plus the times he's been hit with fear gas...yeah, he'd much rather watch some action-suspense, a good book adaptation (he gets so fucking unhinged when they don't follow the books), or a witty historical romance.
he actually respects all of his siblings for the most part, and he'll help them with whatever if it's serious. he just feels uncomfortable regularly associating with them because they still have some kind of allegiance to Bruce, who he refuses to treat as a superior/leader of his. he and Bruce do talk one-on-one when Alfred guilts him into coming home for a meal, or when the world's almost ended (for the 59,211,948th time) and they want to say "I'm glad you're not dead" without really saying it. he loves Bruce but he doesn't fully trust him with his heart, if that makes sense.
he mentally separates the Gotham Rogues into those he'll let off with a warning, and those who are scum. the first kind only gets confronted and fought if they're actually hurting people (physically or socioemotionally).
yes, he still uses guns and knives.

“Oh, Moana.” Rin nodded upon pulling up a movie, turning to his boyfriend. “Wanna watch it?”
It was the weekend, soft little taps of rain bouncing off the roof of their apartment as the boys curled up  beneath a large blanket. Rin had suggested a movie despite Haru’s drooping eyes, reassuring him that he’d wake him up when it was over.
“Hm…” Haru blinked at the screen, reading the title. It was some sort of animation; a daring girl holding an oar stood with an enormous man holding some sort of bone sword. Behind and around them were waves upon waves of water. It looked, admittedly, quite lovely.
All the more reason not to watch it. “Let’s watch something else.”
“Why? I think Rei mentioned this one- he said it’s good.” Rin pressed, waving a hand at the screen. “You know how picky he is about movies. High praise from him is usually a good sign.”
“Animations are usually sad though.” Haru pointed out. “You’ll probably start crying halfway in.”
“First of all, not all animations are tear jerkers, and second of all- the hell you mean I’ll start crying?” Rin fumed. “I don’t cry.”
“Yes you do. You cry all the time during movies.”
“Name one-”
“Up.”
“T-That was a cheap shot-”
“Spirited away, Howl’s Moving Castle, that one Barbie movie-”
“Don’t bring up the Barbie movie!” Rin threw a pillow at him, cheeks red. “That was ONE time! Gou made me watch it with her!” Haru’s only response was a soft snort. “Gah, whatever! I’m not gonna cry. This time, I’ll be dry eyed and unmoved.” With that, Rin turned back to the movie, hitting play.
Haru shimmied back into his nest of blanket, the opening visuals inviting and warm. As the first character introduced began to speak, Haru reflected back on his friends.
Rei had said this movie in particular was amazing.
His eyes were also red though.
~~~
Unsurprisingly- Rei’s taste in movies was spot on.
As the ending credits rolled across the screen, Haru was surprised to find himself still awake. He had planned on napping through the film. When he blinked, his eyes were alarmingly misty, a noticeable lump settled in his throat.
“Oh…” Rin sniffed, balled up tissues littered around him as he dabbed his red eyes. “That was so good! God, I love movies.”
“So much for not crying.” Haru joked, nodding to the mess. Rin rolled his eyes, looking away as he wiped his face clean.
“Shut up. Fine, fine, I cry during movies. Still- I saw you tearing up too!” Rin pointed out- literally. He reached out and poked Haru’s arm in emphasis. “You were just as weepy as me during that one number.”
“I wasn’t…” Okay; maybe Haru did tear up a little during the Ancestor song. “At least I wasn’t blubbering like a whale the entire time.”
“Ha, funny.” Rin snorted, poking Haru again, this time in the ribs. “Deny it all you want- you loved it!”
“I never said I didn’t.” Haru grunted when Rin poked him again. “Stop it-”
“Why? You’re looking a little sad over there Haru. Let’s fix you up!” The redhead grinned, all shark teeth as he poked again and again, making the brunette squirm.
Oh, so this is how he wanted to play huh? Very well.
“Rin-” Another poke to the waist made him shiver. “I swear to god-” A poke to the belly this time, making him giggle. “Stop it!” He scooted away, just out of Rin’s reach. “There.”
Rin- being Rin, shot his foot out and poked Haru with it. “There!”
This motherfu-
“Can’t get away now, can you Haru?” Rin snickered as he continued to poke and prod at the other. Little did he know this was all Haru’s secret plan. “Let’s see that smi-AH!”
“Sorry, what was that?” Haru asked, a hand clutching Rin’s ankle while the other scribbled into his socked foot, making the redhead flail about. “I couldn’t hear you over the sound of my victory.”
“Hahahhahhahharuuhuhuhu yoohohohohou ahahahhahahhass!” Rin yelped through his chrotles, squirming this way and back as he struggled to pull his foot free. “Stahhahahahahp ihiihihiht!”
“Why?”
“Behehehehehhecahaahhahhause!”
“Because why?” Haru moved to his knees, making Rin squawk with laughter.
“It TIIHIIHIIHIHIHICKLES!”
“Oh does it now?” The brunette squeezed Rin’s thigh, a soft smile on his lips as he watched Rin explode with mirth. “I couldn’t tell- you were laughing so much earlier; I just assumed you were thinking about the movie.”
“HAHAHHAHAHRUUHUHUUHU!” Rin shrieked, cheeks as red as his hair and eyes squeezed shut with mirth. Feeling somewhat merciful, Haru temporarily stopped tickling him, watching Rin gasp for breath. “Ahehehe…hehehe..hehe..yohoohu suhuhuhck.”
“Rude. And just when I was about to go easy on you.” Haru mock tsked, his hands gliding up to Rin’s ribs, hovering. “Hey- I bet I can make you sound like the chicken in the movie.”
“Heihei-HEHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!” Rin did in fact squawk like the chicken, the snorts and wheezes from earlier booming out of his lips like crashes of waves. He gripped Haru’s wrists loosely, half heartedly shoving at his boyfriend as he cackled. “STAHAHHHAHHAAP PLEHAHHAHAHAHSE!”
“Heh, okay okay.” Haru tittered softly, finally pulling his hands back for good. Just as he was starting to retreat, Rin pulled him into his chest, wrapping his arms tightly around him. “Ha! Goohohohtcha!”
“Rin, let me go.” It was more an automatic response than anything. Haru let himself ease into his boyfriend’s chest, smiling as he listened to the other’s slowly regulating heartbeat.
“Never. I’ll never let you go.” Rin squeezed him gently, getting comfortable as he stroked Rin’s hair. “Your heart is mine, as mine is yours.”
“You're so cheesy.” Haru breathed out, his earlier drowsiness returning suddenly.
“Heh, you love me.”
He really did.
I hope this was good!
Tonight I saw Barbie.
I think people are going to be watching this movie, talking about it, finding inspiration in it, arguing about it, loving it, hating it, thinking about it, studying it, and in some way engaged by it, for decades to come. It is possibly the most existentialist-themed film to come out of Hollywood in a long while.
Yes, it’s a feminist film too. That much is obvious going in. The “It is literally impossible to be a woman” speech needed to be there, even if it’s not an especially new message— some variation of it has crossed my social media stream almost every day for many years.
I get that that message needs to continue to be said until the people who need to get it finally get it.
But I think the existentialist theme is the more interesting one. At the beginning of the film, Barbie is an object. She’s so perfect, that she isn’t even interesting. She lives in herself, but not *for* herself. And Ken is an object, too: in fact he wants to be an object, for as the narrator tells us he feels entirely unfulfilled unless Barbie is looking at him. He lives neither in himself nor for himself. So far, Barbie-land is fine, if a little weird. And then, Barbie drops the existential question: “Any of you guys ever think about dying?”
At that point, I felt able to settle into my seat in the cinema and enjoy myself, able to ignore that I was the only guy in the cinema who had gone to see it alone. Don’t believe me? I’ll photograph my ticket for you. But then, wouldn’t that be a Ken-ish thing to do? That is, to need to be seen as something, and to feel that need so deeply as to feel empty and angsty without it?
(Whoa, I think I just had an out-of-movie experience.)
I love that Barbie’s quest is a quest for realisation, a quest for the real. I love that Barbieland is Plato’s Cave. That the real world is messy, complicated, and a little dangerous. That Ken craves Barbie’s gaze so deeply, he organizes a patriarchal takeover of Barbieland in order to get it— and then he doesn’t get it, because he finds himself neck deep in a Hegelian master-servant dialectic. I love that Weird Barbie is a shaman. That Allan sees both early-film Barbieland, and the Ken kingdom, for the dead ends that they are. I love that Barbie accidentally finds herself on a quest for God— that is, Ruth Handler, her creator. And most of all, I love that Barbie decides what she wants is “to be part of the people that make meaning, not the thing that is made.”
That’s what I want too, Barbie. That’s why studied philosophy.
In fact I love something else about this film more than that. I love that all over this planet, millions and millions of girls are going to watch this film, thinking that they’re in for a semi-escapist, feminist-themed, family comedy film, about nothing more consequential than a toy. And on one level they’re going to get that film. But they’re *also* going to get an introduction to several of the most important and influential ideas in existentialism and phenomenology. They’re going to learn about the patriarchy. And Plato’s Cave. And Sartre and de Beauvoir’s Le Regard, and Le Regard Masculaine. And Hegel’s Dialectic. And the social construction of identity. And Hume’s Bundle Theory. And Heidegger’s being-towards-death. And Brechtian meta-theatricality. They’ll even get a touch of Marxism— but not too much, as Barbie is still a corporate IP, and the film is full of product placements. They’ll see an homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey. And Pinnochio. And the goddess Innana. And they’ll get a demonstration from Barbie, Ken, and Gloria, of what speaking from the heart, and from a place of pain, can look like, and how it can be healing.
And on most of these themes, the film doesn’t just “ask the question”. It takes a stand. It picks a side. It builds the argument. And it’s too busy dancing to care if you disagree.
I hope that a generation of boys will watch this film, and see how absolutely ridiculous Ken looks when he’s running his Ken kingdom. (Aside: in that phase of his story, he looked, moved, and spoke like all the bullies who made my life miserable in primary school and high school.) I hope that in watching this film, they’ll see there are ways to be a man that don’t involve perpetuating the patriarchy. And it’s up to us to find them. Although I worry that some of those boys watching this film will grasp that self-aware Barbie, living both in herself and for herself, doesn’t need Ken. And then they, too, might throw a patriarchal temper tantrum, as Ken did for a while. Perhaps they’ll tape a Bible to a baseball bat, and trash a Barbie dollhouse with it?
Oh, I see. That happened. Oh dear.
Incidently, I was not the only Ken in the cinema tonight. But all the others who I could see, were there with their kids, and they looked like they were fulfilling a family duty and very uncomfortable doing it. One of them was in a hurry to leave, when the credits rolled. But credit to them, for showing up anyway, for their kid’s sake if not for their own.
As for me, I’m glad I saw this film. And I’m glad I saw it in a cinema. I think that I have work to do, now. People with whom to relate to better. And meaning to create. Also, questions to ask, concerning what it means to create meaning.
All right, those are my off-the-cuff thoughts for tonight. Let me know what you think, too. And if any of you know someone in the cast and crew, thank them for me, please.
Okay, here are my takes from Barbenheimer, and the messages the movies seem to be pushing:
Spoilers under the cut.
Oppenheimer:
If you're autistic, have anxiety, or are generally sensitive to loud scary noises, be warned that this might set you off. This was very much a horror movie, disguised as a historical thing. Also, Christopher Nolan music is Christopher Nolany. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
The great horror wasn't that the people involved were monsters, it was that they were just people. ANYONE handed enough fear and desperation risks becoming this. Yes, even you.
If the monster feels really, really bad about it after, is he still a monster? (Answer: YES, but you still paid to see this movie so now you're culpable too.)
A discussion of how responsible scientists are for what the powerful and cruel do with their inventions.
Ian Malcolm in the first Jurassic Park movie was right. "You were so preoccupied with whether or not you could, you didn't stop and think if you should!"
Hey, it's that actor I had such a crush on when I was 14 and wow, he got old, and OH SHIT I'M OLD TOO... It doesn't matter which actor I'm talking about, MOST of them were that actor to someone or other.
Florence Pugh has nice tits, and Robert Downey Jr. should play more villains. Also, David Krumholz is slowly turning into Alfred Molina.
Spoiler alert: BOOM.
Men suck.
Barbie: This one's gonna get me SO MUCH HATE, because y'all love Barbie, but I'm gonna do it anyway.
They told me it was an empowering movie for women and girls to watch. I went through the whole thing, and was rather insulted by this claim. Yeah, the idea of "women can be whatever we want" was repeated over and over, but the actual movie showed very little of that. Only the DOLLS got to be what they wanted, not the "Real Women."
Barbie not having a vagina is played for laughs, and the first thing that happens when she becomes a Real Woman (Yes, this is a plot point.) is... going to the gynecologist, with her new vagina and uterus. The Mattel board meeting actually had a man ask "I'm a man with no power, does that make me a woman?" How Tumblr hasn't caught the transphobia there is beyond me.
Ha ha, pregnant Midge! Loved that!
Feminism is important, because the patriarchy hurts... Ken. And the other Kens. Look, I get that this plot point was aimed SOLELY at the men who were watching this movie, trying to force them to imagine the role reversal and see how awful it is, but it doesn't change the fact that the main plot point of a supposedly feminist movie was clearly targeted at men. Like... come on.
Why is Will Ferrel here? You could have replaced him with a broken lamp in the corner and the movie would have been just fine.
I can't think of a single time that Barbie invited Ken's company. He pursued her, and she tolerated him because that was just sort of her role and she felt she had to. He respected none of her boundaries, just constantly tried to push past them. Then when he went full incel to the point of violence (Yes, I count brainwashing and enslavement as violence and you should too.) and she defeated him, he threw a screaming, public, self-hatred tantrum until SHE was apologising to HIM and consoling HIM, just a few minutes of screen time after a rant about how unfair it is that women are held responsible for men's bad behavior.
Ruth - "I can't let you become a real woman without you understanding what that means." Ruth - shows a montage of babies and motherhood, with some random crap tacked on the end in hopes that we won't notice that.
Being vocally angry about the patriarchy, racism, and enforced femininity is for dumb, angry teenagers with daddy issues who don't know anything about anything, and growing up into REAL feminism involves pink dresses.
The Velveteen Rabbit walked so that Weird Barbie could somersault while doing the splits.
I did cry when Barbie saw the old woman for the first time and called her beautiful. That was nice.
The boy bands of the early 2000s are finally explained.
The only way out of the patriarchy is by women talking to each other and working together, then... men saying they're sorry and totally promising never to do that again. Because that always works.
I mean, the movie wasn't terrible. It just wasn't made for feminists. It was made to get men angry enough to go see the movie so they'd have something to make angry podcasts about, in hopes that a few of them would start to think about what garbage they're spewing. Also, to sell toys, Hummers and Birkenstocks.
Also, I'm not sure this was Greta Gerwig's fault. This whole thing reeks of studio meddling.
OH, and men suck.
Monday's temperature check (7-24)
I believe it was Albert Einstein who came up with the equation, “Comedy equals tragedy plus time”.  For example, jokes about the Titanic are funny.  To prove my point, why did Leonardo DiCaprio stop seeing the movie Titanic?  Because it turned twenty-five.  However, jokes about using a homemade submarine to take yourself and three friends to the resting spot of the Titanic is still a little raw.  I’m feeling it’s time to start writing temp checks again.  Over the weekend I saw Oppenheimer.  It still might be a little early to joke about the movie.  I won’t spoil the ending, but my favorite scene was when Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, Erwin Schrödinger and Werner Heisenberg were in a car racing toward Los Alamos in the New Mexico desert.  A highway patrolman pulled them over for speeding.
The officer asked Heisenberg, “Do you know how fast you were going?” “No,” replied Heisenberg, “But we know exactly where we are.” The officer looked confused and says, “You were going 120 miles per hour!” Heisenberg throws his arms up and cries, “Great! Now we’re lost!”
“Well,” the officer says to Schrödinger.  “Do you have anything in the trunk?”
“Yes, we have a cat.”
The officer opens the trunk and yells, “This cat is dead!”
Schrödinger angrily replies, “Well it is now!”
Bohr chimed in, “On the bright side, a moment ago we didn’t have a position, speed or a cat.  Now we have all three!”
The group never made it to Los Alamos.
By the way, I also saw Barbie The Movie.  I would describe my favorite scene from that movie, but I think I’ve written “Kenough”.
So, while I double check my quantum mechanics equations, I’ll be online and teleworking.
Stay safe!
Tom
Tag game to better know you
tagged by @ettelwenailinon <3333
what book are you currently reading?
I'm finally getting around to reading through all the riordanverse books (after dropping them when I was like, 10 & read on wikipedia that percy and annabeth kissed and I (unknowing baby lesbian) was like ew. romance. not reading that. which is hysterically funny to me now) & rn I am a couple chapters into the lost hero
also I'm technically still in the middle of an iliad reread (if you're seeing a greek myth theme then no you're not <3). and also teeechnically in the middle of war and peace but it's been ages since I read any.
what’s your favorite movie you saw in theaters this year?
haven't seen anything in cinemas this year but I am going to see barbie on sunday. I hope it's bonkers.
what do you usually wear?
see I'm living out of a suitcase rn and also mostly dressing in a work uniform (I am consistently wearing trousers for the first time in about 8 years. very cursed.) so outside of work clothes I'm kinda back to wearing dresses? which is ok. it's not giving me the bad gender vibes I was getting a couple months back. hopefully soon I'll be back to my fav combo of kilt + button-up shirt + waistcoat tho
how tall are you
uhh 5'3"ish I think? taller than @ettelwenailinon and that's the important thing >:)
what’s your star sign? do you share a birthday with a celebrity or a historical event?
pisces, & there's a bit of stuff that's happened on my birthday but I'm gonna go with the australian labor party defeating the liberals in 1983. love to see the liberals losing
do you go by your name or a nickname?
just my name! there are very very few people who I'll let shorten my name tbh. idk why I but don't tend to like it
did you grow up to become what you wanted to be when you were a child?
absolutely not! wanted to be a vet, ended up working in museums. all because of the blorbo brainrot.
are you in a relationship? if not, who is your crush if you have one?
I sure am in a relationship <333 @ettelwenailinon
what’s something you’re good at vs something you’re bad at?
oughfdk idk. pretty good at writing, pretty bad at drawing (would like to get better tho!!)
dogs or cats?
horses <3
but. cats. dogs are cute but I don't have the patience for them.
if  you draw/write, or create in any way, what’s your favorite  picture/favorite line/favorite etc. from something you created this  year?
oh man ig I'm going to do the unprecedented thing of linking to my ao3 from my main ghjkfd. non-dr who mutuals I am SO sorry <3
if you are not one of my dr who mutuals then you may not know (or you may have guessed from my vagueposting fdksjhgfd) that the stuff I love to write most is like,,, fic that's more about my historical interests than actual dr who HGKFDJ. & sure enough when I looked at what I'd done this year, all the stuff I liked best was historical fic. tossed up between a couple of them but I've got to give it to should i have bent, been reshaped
“Were ye ever proud of me?” he asked softly. “In the war? I used tae wonder that, after I’d lost ye.” Moisture was beading at the tip of his nose, and he drew the back of his hand across it, snuffling away the tears that still refused to fall. “Sometimes it felt like the only thought I ever had, when I was pipin’ in your place. If ye were watchin’, and if ye were proud of me. I thought maybe you’d come back an’ tell me so.” A bitter smile curled itself over his mouth. “But ye never did, did ye?” One hand stretched out, tracing over the lettering on the gravestone. His head was still bowed too low to see them, but he knew the words by heart. Dòmhnall Uilleam MacCruimein. “Ye never came back. An’ ye never, ever told me ye were proud.”
this was sooo much fun to write oh my god. it was mostly based around the title, bc as soon as I heard that song I was like. that's a jamie song. no I don't care it's from a video game and about a totally different character, it's about jamie's relationship with his father.
and I'm just so nuts about jamie's relationship with his family and his father in particular, the way it bounces off his queerness and relationship with his gender, etc etc etc. it's a very hyperspecific and niche fic but that's what gives me the most joy so <3
what is something that you’d like to create content for?
hmm idk!! nothing new, really. I'm very much wedded to two-era dr who in terms of writing. I'd like to make more holding achilles gifsets I think
what’s something you’re currently obsessed with?
life is really kicking my brain cell rn so not a whole lot but @ettelwenailinon talking about stuff to do with jacobitism/the '45 is driving me down the rabbithole again too & that is DEFINITELY coming out in the fic ideas I'm bouncing around ghfjkds
what’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?
the first thing that jumped into my mind was the sun and the star. not gonna explain that one I'm just gonna say that I could fix her but also it makes me want to kill
what’s a hidden talent of yours?
walk fast :^) powered by spite and homosexuality
are you religious?
nope! never have been. I guess I have a sort of spirituality in my world view but it's very. mild I suppose.
what’s something you wish to have at this moment?
an apartment......... finding somewhere to rent is hard :/
tagging @galacticlamps @vimbry @kiraistired @carrionthird @p0stscripter and whoever else I've forgotten/who wants to do it!! no pressure tho <3
Hi! I know it's been a few days since I replied! I hope we get to see the pink cover or vinyl later today or tomorrow! Hopefully it's bubblegum cotton candy or Barbie pink lol. Oh yes I totally missed the vault unscramble last time but I think it's cuz it got leaked so hopefully there will be one for 1989 sometime soon! I can't believe it's been a year since Midnights was announced..a lot has happened since and also she sang Cornelia Street at a show this weekend!
Ooh I would love a Newsies or Next to Normal revival..even if these shows somehow feel recent to me still lol. I wonder how they could make it different. But ya I definitely liked the Spring Awakening revival! It's always cool when they do something different with the show. I actually still haven't seen the movie or musical of Oklahoma yet but heard mixed reviews of the tour. I just watched the Barbra Streisand movie On a Clear Day you Can See Forever recently but apparently they did a gender swapped version when they revived it and I thought that was interesting. The Outsiders is one of my favorite movies and books so obviously I hope the musical is good. I'm still unsure about your question what I would want adapted, cuz my favorite movies are kinda simple and already iconic..like the Breakfast Club, for example. There is also a Back to the Future musical which I think is okay. Almost Famous felt cash grabby and nothing like the movie I think. It makes more sense to adapt something more mysterious or with a lot of costumes or something and I can't think of anything! What was your answer? I'm really curious what you would pick.
Omg..you already finished the book! How was it? If you read it so fast, does that mean it was good or that you were trying to get through it? Based on your rating, I can't tell. Also..I really appreciate how you answered the question about rating but I'll try not to worry about it when I'm reading and just enjoy the books.I will make time for more reading today and I'll see how much I can get through. It did seem like an easy and quick read. Aww okay..but it seemed like I'll Give You The Sun will be a good read, but I'll focus on Mistakes were Made for now. I hate when I can't remember stuff that happens in books I read a long time ago..or if the book just doesn't leave an impression..cuz that's when I forget about it. But thats different than you reading it a long time ago..so hopefully you would still like it now if you reread it. Oh..the Night Circus has been on my shelf for almost a year and now maybe I'll finally read it! I've heard such good things about it too! So maybe I will..when I need a change of genre since it seemed spooky..maybe in October? I'm really trying to do more reading and actually finishing at least one or two books a month for the rest of the year, instead of being in the middle of so many. I also got the Hunger Games spinoff to read before the movie comes out so hopefully that motivates me. How often do you read a few books at a time or do you usually just try to finish ones once you've already started? You seem to read really fast..or does it just depend on the book? I know we might've talked about this before, but do you read everyday for a certain time? I'm trying to stick to that and make it part of my routine so hopefully I will finish this book quickly! I will send you another ask later with some of my thoughts once I read more.
hello hello!! i'm so so excited for the pink vinyl but also if she wants to wait a bit longer to drop it (until after payday) i would very much appreciate it 😂 and yeah, someone unfortunately leaked the speak now track list so there was no vault unscramble! i cannot believe it's already been a year; time flies! i saw cornelia street and i am so so happy for everyone there!!! i think my favorite surprise song from this weekend was either tell me why, or afterglow, but the cornelia street/you're on your own kid pairing was so good. my friends and i were joking around a while ago, and i was like "i feel like you could give me any two taylor songs and i could find some sort of lyric parallel between them" and so now it's a bit of a game in our friend group to do that with surprise songs! i just think it's really interesting to see how taylor's use of words / phrases / themes / motifs / etc. have changed (or stayed consistent) over the years.
it's been nine years since newsies closed, which feels very very unreal to me! i didn't follow the oklahoma tour, and have actually never seen the movie/any non-revival production of it, but i saw the revival (went in completely blind) and loved it. i'd recommend giving this a read if you have some time! ooh a breakfast club musical could be interesting, i'm surprised they haven't done one yet. i would love a the night circus adaptation, but i think that one would make more sense if it was more of an immersive (think like, sleep no more, great comet-y, etc) experience — and there's a lot to pack in two hours. there were some demos for a possible night circus musical from back in the day though, by webborn & finn, who did clockmaker's daughter (i really like the music for clockmaker too). i'm not sure what else i'd want adapted into a musical — maybe funny face? it's a musical movie, so i feel like that wouldn't be toooooo difficult.
i usually read books pretty quickly! reading a book in one sitting is my preferred way to read a ya contemporary! unless i'm annotating, it's a very long book or actively juggling multiple books at once, i try to read books in one sitting. i just find that more enjoyable for me personally — which is also why i haven't been reading as much this year, i think. i do need to get better about reading books in chunks again. there's also the CAWPILE method for rating books, that i've been meaning to look into more and apply to my own rating systems, but always forget until someone asks me about ratings! i will leave my thoughts on the book until you're done, so we can have a proper discussion and i don't influence you!! and yesssss — the night circus is a perfect october read (and i think the starless sea is a perfect january read). i might join you and do a reread of the night circus (i need to finish my starless sea reread/annotations first though, and i keep pushing that off so we'll see if that happens). i have not read TBOSAS yet, and i'm unsure if i want to do so first, or watch the movie first (i've also never seen the hunger movies after the first one, but my friends want me to watch it so ... eventually!)
and i don't always! i used to be more diligent about reading before bed, even if it's for 30 minutes — just to wind down! at the beginning of the year, i was very good about annotating for 30 minutes a day too, but that doesn't always happen. really just depends on my plans and what i'm up to! i should get back in the swing of listening to audiobooks, at least on my walks — i walk my dog four times a day but i haven't really been audiobooking lately!
did you see the eras tour movie announcement? i just got tickets for friday and sunday!!! hope you're doing well! 🤍
