Most underrated byler moment goes to this. Them hugging, only to stand by each other this close, with Will looking at Mike emotionally waiting for him to look back, but all Mike can do is stand there frozen… Both suffering and not feeling like they can comfort each other any more than they already have 😭😭😭

Discreet Not Detached
Pairing: Harvey Specter x Fem!Reader
Word count: 1,397
Warnings: None, really.
Summary: Mike goes to Harvey's apartment to deliver some files only to be proved wrong about his boss being a lonely workaholic.
Disclaimer: I don’t own the show Suits, or its characters, also not associated with it in any way, or know anyone involved with it.
A/N: My first Harvey fic in a while, I had the idea based on an episode (I don't remember exactly which) and tried to elucidate to it here. Anyways, I hope it doesn’t suck and feedback is appreciated as usual!
(y/n) = (your name) (y/l/n) = (your last name) (y/n/n) = (your nickname)

Another day in the office, another drama for Harvey Specter: this time it was his associate, Mike Ross, wanting to tell his girlfriend the whole truth about the terms of his employment and Harvey couldn’t let him do it, for obvious reasons. But, as you’d expect, namecallings happened and it all ended with Mike throwing in Harvey’s face his being an alleged workaholic in lack of a personal 一 and, in this case, love 一 life. Emphasis on alleged, cause what Mike didn’t know was that his boss actually did have someone to go home to…
It had been a long day but at least you got to go home to your excentric puddle of comfort of a boyfriend: New York City’s best closer, Harvey Specter. Once you got to your place, where the two of you lived together, you were welcomed with the smell and the view of a freshly cooked dinner that Harvey probably had someone making for the two of you.
As you started taking off your coat and shoes by the door, Harvey came out of your shared bedroom wearing nothing but sweatpants and looking like he’d just taken a shower. “Oh, hey, honey!” He greeted you with a smile on his face. “Sorry I didn’t wait for you to shower but I mingled too much with people of dubious hygiene today, so I kinda really needed to get clean.”
“Ah, that’s okay,” you said while pouting cutely at the same time. “At least dinner is ready, 'cause I am starving!”
“Ha! You say it like it’s cutting-edge news!” He tells you, as he puts on a shirt 一 much to your disappointment.
“What is that supposed to mean?!” You ask feigning offense while putting away your bag, shoes, and coat.
“It means that you’re always starving, sweetheart,” Harvey answers nonchalantly like it’s nothing.
“That is not true! Or at least it’s not entirely true: I’m always starving if it’s past mealtime and I haven’t eaten!”
“Sure, whatever you say, baby!” He says it already knowing that your hunger and all the pet names will only soften you.
“You know what? After today I don’t even have the energy to bicker with you…”
“That bad, huh?”
“The ED was a complete chaos today, apparently all hospitals were swamped, which is why they called more surgeons downstairs to help out. I’ve been on my feet the entire day! I’m basically dead.”
“Dramatic… But I’m sorry you had a shitty day, baby.” He said coming to hug you from behind in your bathroom. Looking at your reflex in the mirror 一 both of you, together like that 一 filled your heart with love and your mind with peace. Harvey was definitely your happy place.
Some time later, after you’d had your dinner, gotten ready for bed, and watched a sappy rom-com you chose, you and Harvey were already cuddling, almost asleep when you heard insistent knocking on the door.
“Stay here, honey, I’ll go see what that’s all about.” You sorta heard Harvey say to you as you lost your personal space heater.
Out in the living, Harvey opened the door only to find his associate Mike Ross standing there looking all tired and disheveled. Before his boss could even say anything, he went ahead entering the apartment mumbling about the case they were currently addressing in the office.
“Harvey, you’re not gonna believe what I found about our not-so-innocent school teacher!” He said to the older man with such energy that sounded like he had had a few too many energetics.
“What the hell, Mike?! Why are you showing up on my doorstep this late at night?”
“Because I knew you’d wanna see this as soon as possible, besides, it’s not like you’d have anything important going here, would you?” Mike asked sorta mocking Harvey.
Ignoring his employee’s last comment, he took the papers Mike was offering and said: “This better be good, Ross, otherwise you’re gonna meet a whole different side of me.
As Harvey started reading all the documents, Mike started having a look around, cause when would he have another chance at taking a peek at his boss’s house like that again? And he couldn’t believe what his eyes were seeing, he would definitely be making a few thousand jokes about it in the near future: there was a romance novel lying on the table, one of those with drawings on the cover that were becoming so popular then.
“Oh my God, Harvey, when were you gonna tell me about your love for reading?” He asked while pointing at the book with his head.
As Harvey’s eyes emerged from the papers in his hands with a confused look to them, Mike continued: “You know you could have told me, in fact after seeing the kinda genre you like I might actually ask for some recommendations, you know, to get my grandmother a few as presents.” The younger man said already starting to laugh loudly.
“That’s not mine…” Harvey began to answer with his mind still on the documents at hand.
“Oh no? You know there’s no need to lie to me, I promise I’ll try not to judge!”
“Funny. But that’s actually-”
“Mine!” You said as you came out of the bedroom wearing nothing but one of Harvey’s expensive dress shirts. “I don’t think we’ve met yet!” You exclaimed, already extending your hand to shake Mike’s. “I’m (y/n), Harvey’s girlfriend.”
“Girl- g- girlfriend?” Mike looked so shocked he almost choked on his laughter.
“Yes, but it’s doctor (y/l/n) for you.” He answered instinctively moving to your side. “What are you doing out of bed, sweetheart?”
“Sweetheart?” Mike murmured to himself in disbelief of the version of Harvey he was seeing, especially after their argument in the office and the things he’d said to Harvey.
“Well, I assumed it was something work-related when I noticed how long it was taking you to come back and came to drag you back to bed!” You announced to your boyfriend entangling your bodies with certain disregard for the other man standing there in shock.
Only then did Mike notice a framed picture on the sideboard behind him and it displayed both you and Harvey looking at each other with love in your eyes as he carried you bridal style into the water on a beach. Which was another surprise to the young attorney since he didn’t even know that Harvey was a fan of beaches.
“So you’re the famous Mike Ross, then?” You asked, catching his attention again. “You know, it’s very rare for someone to impress Mr. Specter here like you did!”
“Oh, honey, don’t do that, or he’ll spend an entire month finding new ways to subtly bring up in every conversation-”
“Oh, there won’t be anything subtle about it, Mr. Specter,” Mike said mockingly, finally coming out of the shock he had been on. “But I’m curious now, how long have you two been together?”
“About three years, isn’t it, babe?” You answered quickly not paying any mind to the mockery on Mike’s voice.
“Yeah, that’s right.”
“Wow, I never would’ve guessed it. Harvey never talks about you. Like ever.” Mike impolitely announced. “I mean, I didn’t even know he had a girlfriend and it’s been months since we started working together.”
“Well, that sounds about right since we don’t like to display our personal lives at work.” You said nonchalantly.
“But do Jessica and Donna know?”
“Of course they do. Must I remind you that you’re not a Donna or a Jessica, Mike?”
“Ouch. But do Lewis and Rachel know?”
“No, and no. And as interesting as your findings were, it’s time for you to leave. We’ll talk more about it tomorrow at the office.”
“But-”
“Mike. Now!”
“Oh, Harvey, don’t be like that.”
“He needs to go now and we need to go back to bed, so bye, Mike!” Harvey said while shoving Mike out the door.
And after he was gone, just like in the picture, Harvey picked you up from the floor and started carrying you back to the bedroom.
“Harvey!” You squealed out. But he didn’t mind it as he tossed you on the bed, got on top of you, and started kissing you. Apparently, Mike’s visit had put him in a good mood. And, apparently, it was going to be a long night.

Eddie notices it first at Dairy Queen.
It's the first time since leaving the hospital that he's been somewhere with the whole party that isn't Steve's house or the Hoppers-Byers cabin. The younger children crowd the counter, talking over each other as they count their money and decide what to get, while the older teens and adults hang at the back, looking at the menu. Then Erica steps over to Steve and says something Eddie can't quite make out. He nods, winds his way through the gremlins, and places his order. When his name is called, he picks up two cups of ice cream and hands one to Erica, who takes it with a smirk and a comment Eddie can't make out, although it has Steve laughing and shoving playfully at her shoulder.
Eddie turns then to look at the other kids but none of them even seem to notice that Steve has seemingly paid for Erica and not them. It's confusing because Eddie is sure Henderson, at least, would be kicking up a fuss about it. Not even Robin says anything.
But, then again, maybe Steve owes Erica money. Or he lost a bet. Eddie is aware how fierce the younger Sinclair is in collecting on her debts, having made the mistake once and once only of asking her to buy him a soda. So, if no one else is bothered, neither is he. He shrugs and enjoys his sundae.
But then it happens again the next week at Baskin Robbins.
And again two weeks later.
When the last ice cream truck left in Hawkins comes through Steve's neighborhood and the only one to get anything is Erica - at Steve's expense, of course - and the other kids don't even grumble beyond wishing they hadn't blown all their allowance at the arcade, Eddie decides he's had enough.
"Okay, what is it with this ice cream thing???" he bursts out as they all settle back down next to the pool.
The burble of conversation stops as everyone turns to look at him, then glance around at each other.
"What ice cream thing?" Mike finally asks, genuinely confused.
"What ice cream... the ice cream thing!" Eddie splutters. "The thing where Steve always buys Erica ice cream and none of the rest of you munchkins seem to care!"
There's a collective ohhhh of understanding, but Eddie is still completely in the dark. He gestures for someone to explain.
"It's because of Operation Child Endangerment," Dustin answers, casual, like it's a normal, non-question-inducing answer.
Eddie scrunches his brows together and lets out a confused bubble of sound at the same time that Steve buries his face in his hands and groans, "I thought we agreed not to call it that."
Erica laughs and wags her finger at him. "Uh, no. Just because you demanded we change it doesn't mean we agreed to."
"...little lost here. What's Operation Child Endangerment?" Eddie asks, glancing sideways at Steve. He can see, between his fingers, that the other boy's face has gone bright red.
Steve groans again and sinks forward to let his head hang by his knees.
And so Eddie finds out everything about the summer of '85 and Starcourt mall. He already knew the basics, but he's still fascinated. Horrified. Impressed.
He watches Steve through the whole retelling, jumbled as it is by the kids all interrupting each other to add something they thought was being forgotten, and feels his heart ache inside his chest for the beautiful boy across from him. Watches him hunch his shoulders when Erica explains the deal they made, the one that's got her free ice cream for life. Watches him puff up a little with pride when Dustin describes him knocking the Russian comms operator out cold. Watches him squeeze Robin's hand when she mentions the Russian torture and drugs. Watches him tug El into a hug when Jonathan talks about having to cut into her leg.
Eddie watches Steve - brave, loyal, loving Steve, who won't break a promise or a deal even after he most certainly could - laughing with their friends, taking their ribbing and teasing them in return, ruffling Dustin's hair and splashing Erica, almost starting a party-wide splash fight.
Eddie waits until everyone is distracted by Max chasing Lucas across the pool after his cannonball knocked her from her floaty, various advice being shouted to both, then moves to sit next to Steve on his pool chair.
"That was, uh, a lot," he says quietly.
Steve bites his lip, turns a little away from the chaos in and around the pool, although his eyes still track the chase, Max having almost cornered Lucas. "Yeah, yeah it was," he replies, just as quietly.
"Pretty impressive," Eddie tells him, knocking their shoulders together.
Steve shrugs. He snorts as Max finally catches Lucas and dunks him a couple times before they both dissolve into laughter.
Eddie bumps his shoulder again. "Seriously, dude, you gotta know how cool you are."
"I guess," Steve says, still not looking at Eddie, fidgeting with his hands instead.
Eddie thinks he knows what thoughts might be running around inside Steve's head, so he puts a hand over Steve's. The jittery motions still under his touch. "Hey, you got them out of there. You didn't know what you were walking into and you all got out alive. I call that pretty badass."
Steve finally turns to him. The look in his eyes makes Eddie want to pull Steve close, hold him until that look disappears. But he doesn't, just squeezes Steve's fingers.
The corner of Steve's mouth ticks up, just a little. "Thanks, Eddie." He looks like he might say more, but suddenly Dustin lets out a whoop and they both turn to the pool. Jonathan, Nancy, Robin, and Argyle have started a game of chicken, Nancy on Jonathan's shoulders and Robin on Argyle's.
They watch, laughing, as the girls wrestle until they both go tumbling into the water together and come up spluttering. Steve's head is thrown back, his shoulders are shaking with giggles and Eddie feels a grin stretch across his face.
He leans forward to rest his chin on Steve's shoulder, his hand still over Steve's, a teasing tone in his voice when he says, "So, hey, I was wondering. What would it take for me to get free ice cream for life from Steve Harrington?"
Steve turns his head and Eddie pulls back so they can look at each other. And that's all they do for a long moment, Eddie's breathing speeding up when Steve's gaze drops to his lips.
But all Steve does is turn his hand in Eddie's grip, so he can tangle their fingers together. He squeezes Eddie's hand, then stands, grinning, tugging Eddie up with him.
"C'mon," Steve says, pulling Eddie over to the pool before jumping in with a splash. Eddie ducks away from the water, grinning like a fool. When he catches Erica's knowing smirk, he just shrugs helplessly and follows Steve in.
Maybe he owes Erica some free ice cream, too.

Definitely a show-off, even before you started dating. He wouldn't boast too loudly though, he prefers to smoothly tell you how he got blackeye or some new asset on his bike. He always melts when you're impressed by his feats, even if they were from failure.
Mike's a collector. While cycling or suffering from boredom in his dull jobs, he'd swipe a few things that grab his attention and share it with you. He enjoys making chains for you and Abby. It hasn't been the first time Abby has been dragged out of school for wearing a pin with some questionable language Mike didn't notice.
Absolutely adores helping you dress up to resemble his biker wear. Loves helping you find bracelets, decorative eyeliner and rebellious-printed clothes. It makes me squeal eternally.
Gets intense anxiety in populated areas, mostly due to his trauma with Garrett. He doesn't want to think about anyone taking you or Abby away. He's stupid protective in public spaces. With his already intimidating demeanour, it's safe to say nobody bothers talking to you too much.
He enjoys using pet names, but he jokingly calls you "sir", "bro" or "boytoy" a lot. Speaking of which, Mike adores when you make up titles for him. It's something he treasures a lot. A special name for him? And him only? Makes his heart melt.
Takes you on bike rides at any opportunity. He also loves taking Abby in rides too and doing basic tricks with you watching from the sidelines. He's always careful, he could never forgive himself if either of you got hurt.
One of his favorite things to do is let you touch his hair. Nothing makes him happier than intimate moments like that. He likes it more than cuddling and neck kisses. It's just the simple things in life that appeal to him the most.
Wears the silliest shirts while he isn't at work or roaming the streets. Either quotes involving boyfriends or cartoon merchandise. It amuses all of you, but it genuinely makes him happy to indulge in a separate style. Definitely has a: "Men love me, Fish Fear Me" hat somewhere.
You're always at his aid when he comes back bruised. Like the first bullet, he'd calmly hum you an out of tune, over exaggerating story to make himself look good. Truly, Mike doesn't think he deserves you. So, he refuses to embarrass himself.
Loves kissing. That's all.
"Come on, Mike. I gotta go," you giggled as he pressed featherweighted kisses against your skin. You could feel him smiling before he pulled back with a heated sigh. "Just a minute, please? You know how much I miss you." With a playfully eye roll, you wrap your hands around his sides and hug him as he continued peppering you again while grinning sweetly.
Always referencing something. Either it's from a show or song he likes. He's always dumbfounded when you don't understand and ends up spending thirsty minutes rambling about music history.
Pulls pranks occasionally, mostly with Abby's help. A few prank wars have gone down in your household.
Has at least two tattoos based on you (and Abby), he takes his relationships very seriously.
Cried when Abby called you her "dad" once. This loser is so head over heels for you he'd sob if you were complimented him. It makes his heart throb to see you and his sister connect despite everything.
Very defensive. If anything goes wrong, he's either going to use grade school insults or result to violence. There were a couple of times he couldn't come home due to arrest. He'd come back as if nothing happened.
If you ever got into an argument, Mike would try to give you the most formal apology ever. Either by notes or heavily descriptive speeches about how special you are to him. Most of the time it was pretty cheesy, but you couldn't help but be smitten by his adorable attempts.
Much deeper voice + Slightly Childish. He's still pretty shy when he isn't in his element, so Mike is much more confident with you around. Mostly due to his need to impress you.
So much fist bumping.
Mike's bike is DEFINITELY named after you. Anyone who asks about it is immediately shot with dumps of his adoration if you. Bro will never shut up about his boyfriend. Ever.
Mike has definitely gone through those: "This is for you," and failed immediately. As much as it embarrassed him, he finds it cute how fond you were of it. His face flares up a lot around you.
"God, I'm so sorry I missed it." He frowned, face drenched with numb scarlet. "I didn't mean to make a fool out of you." Mike relaxed once you gripped his leather glove with a smile, "So? I still love you. I think it was sweet how you tried to impress me. I'm proud of you." Mike swore he was starstruck right there.
Loves holding your hand, even in public. It's one of the only forms of affection he's comfortable with displaying.

Maybe Mike with a reader who works at the daycare Abby goes to and he has a crush on her, when Abby, shows him who her favorite teacher (?) / daycare worker she likes fem reader pls
Heat Above
Mike Schmidt x fem!reader Request: Word Count: 1.2k Warnings:all fluffy basically. there is literally nothing to say here Summary:You never thought about becoming a daycare attendant, but here you were. Drawing together with a small girl, who told you all day long about her brother. Until you finally got to meet him… Masterlist
Tumblr media
You never thought, you’d end up where you were right now. It hadn’t been your dream, nor had it been the thing you thought about when you were younger. It was just never on your page.
But here you were. A daycare attendant in a small dozy city, no one had ever heard of. It had never been your desire, but over the years, you had learned to adore the children who came in while their family couldn’t watch them. You had learned to appreciate the small things. For example when a child told you that they enjoyed playing with you, or that you were their favorite attendant. It always put a smile on your face, to see so many kids being delighted by the simplest things.
And those things often included drawing and sketching with the children. But one kid in particular always asked you to draw with her. The young girl you had come to known as Abby Schmidt always came running into your arms, the second she stepped foot into the daycare. And you always knew you were going to spend the rest of your day drawing with her and other children. Abby often told you about her friends and you loved to ask her questions about them, letting her come up with the most imaginative stories you had ever heard from a child.
“You know, you should meet my brother sometime.”, Abby mentioned one afternoon, while you sat with her on a small table by the window. She had been doodling for a while, but not wanting to show you what it was.
“Yeah?”, You asked with a small smile,”What’s he like?”
Abby looked up from her drawing for a second, figuring out what to say:”He sleeps most of the time. But he’s a good guy. He always protects me and is there for me.”
“You’re right.”, you agreed with her,”He does sound like a good guy. An awesome brother on top.”
“Sometimes he’s annoying.”, Abby said nonchalantly, without looking up from her drawing,”But I think he would like you.”
“You think so?”, you asked with furrowed brows, trying to remember what her brother looked like. You were pretty sure, you had seen him bring her in once or twice.
“Yeah.”, Abby nodded,”I like you, so he’ll like you too.”
You could only chuckle at her answer and lovingly ran a hand through her hair, ruffling it all out of place. Abby gave you a short look of annoyance, before her face broke and a fit of giggles escaped her.
“Now, You finally wanna show me what you drew there?”, You asked, a smile still present on your face.
She nodded strongly and pushed her pens away from the drawing before handing it to you. Your heart bloomed with joy as you realized that it was a drawing of her and you on the small table you were currently sitting at. Both of you were drawing on the picture, a big smile on your faces.
“This is beautiful, Abby.”, You smiled. Abby beamed up at you, before getting up from her chair and walking over to give you a hug. You quickly embraced the small girl, but nearly got a heart attack when she screamed into your ear.
“Mike!! You’re here already!”, Abby shouted happily. She quickly entangled herself from you and you watched how she ran over to a young man, probably your age. When You saw his face, You knew that you had seen him before.
So this was the ominous brother.
You just looked at the two of them for a second, while Abby hugged her big brother, telling him of her day. You watched her rambling on with a smile on your face. But then you realized that Mike wasn’t looking at his sister. He was looking at you. His low gaze lingered on your face for a second longer, before he realized that he had been caught.
You swiftly looked away too, an unknown heat rising to your cheeks. What had just happened?
Your thoughts were interrupted, when you heard Abby, calling you over to her and Mike.
You quickly got up and walked over to them. Your gaze was on Abby first as she gave you a wide grin, before you finally looked up at Mike, only to realize that his big chocolate brown eyes were already looking at you.
“Hy.”, You said shily, holding your hand out to him. Mike looked at you a bit perplexed for a second, before he seemed to break out of his trance, grabbing your hand and giving it a firm shake.
“Hey.”, he smiled,”I’m Mike, Abby’s brother.”
“Yeah, I've heard quite a bit about you already”, You chuckled bashfully.
Mike gave you a timid look:“Only good things I hope”
“Well, basically just that you sleep a lot.”, You mumbled, looking to the ground.
“You two are insufferable.”
Both You and Mike looked at each other for a second, before turning your heads to look at Abby with furrowed brows. The small girl looked back and forth between the two of you, before an annoyed groan left her lips:”And? Will you go out with each other?!
You immediately felt the heat rising back to your cheeks and you looked away from the two of them for a second. You could see that Mike wasn’t doing any better. His cheeks were clearly reddened and he nervously brushed a hand through his hair.
“I’m sorry. S-She doesn’t know what she's talking about…Miss…?”, Mike tried to explain his little sister.
“L/N. But Y/N is fine.”, You explained with a small smile. You didn’t know what came to you, but in a boost of confidence, you turned around to Abby:”Why don’t you go grab your jacket, Abby? While the grown-ups talk a bit.”
Abby gave you a knowing grin before she nodded and took off to get her stuff.
“Once again, I’m sorry about her. She really doesn’t know when to shut up.”, Mike mumbled.
“It’s alright”, You smiled,”And besides, she isn’t wrong.”
Mike looked at you perplexed, but you only grabbed his sleeve, pulling him to one of the tables. He didn’t protest and you took that as a good sign. You grabbed a small piece of paper and swiftly scribbled down your phone number, before handing it to Mike:”You know, in case you need a babysitter…or someone to meet up with.”
Mike gave you a soft smile, while he put the paper into his pocket:”Do you have time this weekend?”
“I’m off at five.”, You answered, as the two of you walked towards the exit, where Abby was already waiting.
“I’ll call you.”, Mike uttered. You could only nod at him, as you reached Abby. The small girl grabbed Mike’s hand and with a few small goodbyes, the two of them were out of the door.
You looked after them for a second and while Abby was already rambling on again, Mike turned around once more, giving you a gentle smile and a wave. You quickly waved back at him, before they reached his car.
With a rapidly beating heart, you finally close the door of the daycare. You couldn’t believe it. You had a date on Friday.

Not long after the Vecna fight, and after Eddie is discharged from the hospital, him and his band mates leave Hawkins. Their reputations in Hawkins are basically in the fucking gutter, and they had a gig out of town, so they hauled ass.
Steve, who may or may not have some memory issues due to head trauma, completely forgets Eddie. He, honestly, forgets a lot of things, and when he’s about 25, him and Robin move away from the shithole that is called Hawkins and get a flat together in the city, insisting that they could do it.
And they did.
They pay their bills and rent on time, they budget their money, and they’re comfortable. So what if Robin brings home the occasional woman and it always ends with mumbled farewells that wake Steve up every time. He doesn’t mind. Just like Robin doesn’t mind when Steve starts bringing home girls, and the occasional guy (after the first one, Robin’s all like “YOU LIKE DUDES? WHY DIDNT YOU TELL ME??”).
Every once in awhile, Steve and Robin make sure to call the kids, catching up and seeing how they’re doing. Dustin always asks how Steve is doing, and Steve always says good, even if he isn’t.
Steve was pretty surprised when the kids, each one of them, showed up at his and Robin’s door randomly. Steve blinked, about to ask why they were there, but Robin swooped in and let the kids in, excitedly greeting them.
“Did I forget something again?” Steve asked Robin as she was getting the kids drinks. Robin ruffled Steve’s hair.
“Nah, doofus, I planned this. Don’t worry.” Steve flashed a smile and joined everyone in the ‘living room’, which really was the doorway/kitchen/living room.
“What exactly did you plan, Rob?” Steve asked as he sat on the coffee table, glancing over the kids and observing how much they’ve aged in just a couple years.
“We’re gonna go see Eddie’s band in concert,”Dustin said with a wide grin, but Steve didn’t catch on. Dustin understood fast that Steve had lost all memory of the brunet, smiling still. “Corroded Coffin. I don’t know if it’s your style but Eddie said we could hang out with him and the guys as like a Hellfire reunion,” Dustin informed, doing some odd, back-of-the-hand fist bump with Mike. Steve smiled and nodded. He was fine with that.
The concert rolled around, and everyone but Steve was surprised by the huge turn out. Eddie had bought the gang’s tickets for them, and so they had no idea how expensive, or scarce they would’ve been. But judging off the fact the venue was jam packed, they assumed they dodged a bullet by being old friends with the band mates.
Steve felt an odd feeling in his stomach when the band walked on, the guitarist speaking excitedly into the mic. In fact, the guitarist was the only person Steve could focus on. His hair was long, and was tugged into a loose, high bun. Tattoos coated his arms, and he wore a slightly cropped, ripped to shit black shirt that read Corroded Coffin in lightning-esque lettering.
Eddie was quick to pick out his old friends from the crowd, letting Gareth speak as he watched them. Dustin and Robin had told him that Steve didn’t remember much of his last years in Hawkins, and the years before that were a little spotty as well, so he was forgotten. Eddie didn’t mind this much, especially not now that he saw Steve, wearing cute tight jeans and a deep maroon sweater, staring up at Eddie with pure amazement.
Eddie made sure to hold eye contact with Steve as much as possible, and the best part? Steve didn’t look away. His crush on Steve was horrible in Highschool, but he had gotten over it after leaving Hawkins. He got with a couple guys, he got over it. But now? God he was reverting right back into his high school days, heart racing just at the way Steve’s eyes would flick over his body or how he’d fix his hair. Did Steve even like men? God, Eddie sure fucking hoped so.
After the concert, the crew was escorted backstage and into the band’s dressing room. After excited greetings and hugs and stuff of that matter, Eddie’s eyes fell onto Steve again. Robin was talking to him, a comforting hand on his arm as Steve’s brows furrowed in thought. Eddie approached.
“Hey there,” Eddie greeted, and Robin turned, smiling.
“Hey Eds.” Robin knelt up to Eddie’s ear. “He’s trying to remember you. He probably won’t.” Eddie simply nodded, flashing a grin at Steve.
“Hey. Names Eddie, yours?”
“Steve. Steve Harrington.” Steve held his hand out to be shook, but Eddie took it, bowed, and kissed the back of his hand. Steve flushed all shades of red as Eddie rose again.
“Pleasure meeting you, my liege.”
“Y-yeah. You- you too.” Eddie let his eyes flick over Steve’s form. He flashed another grin.
“I hope this isn’t the last I see of you?” Eddie proposed, and Steve flushed red.
“You want my number?”
“Of course I do.”
“I- yeah- give me a moment- Rob what’s our flats phone number?”

“Okay, okay next one! Hurry up already!” My sister Nancy giggled as we sat on her bed. I was helping (definitely not forcing) her study for her upcoming test. Pop music lightly played from the radio while I shuffled through her flashcards. “Alright, alright!” I smiled. I repositioned myself sitting cross legged on her bed. “Which polymers occur naturally?” I asked, looking up from the card. Nancy was looking up towards the ceiling, chewing on her bottom lip which was a habit we’d both had since we were little.
“Starch and cellulose.” She answered somewhat confidently. “Mhm.” I hummed, picking another card. “In a molecule of CH4, the hydrogen atoms are spatially oriented towards the centers of--” Nancy sat up straighter, interrupting me. “Tetrahedrons.” I smiled again. “Way to go, Nance. I think you’ll ace that test.” I concluded, handing her back her flashcards. She grinned happily. Nancy and I got along quite well as sisters, surprisingly. We didn’t argue that much and when we did, it was over something silly. I’m the eldest child in the family, so I mostly take care of my siblings considering my dad is always asleep or watching the television and my mother is only really interested in Holly. Don’t get me wrong, they love us a lot. We just feel like strangers sometimes.
I was going to ask Nance about her luck with Steve Harrington, but her door suddenly slammed open, revealing Holly with syrup all over her face. “Mommy says breakfast is ready.” She announced and quickly took off back downstairs. I wasn’t even dressed yet, so I quickly exited Nancy’s room into my own where I changed into a cute but basic outfit. I added jewelry and my signature perfume and ran downstairs. Everyone was sitting at the table eating Eggos. I sat down, fixing my skirt. I grabbed a plate and started cutting my waffles. Mike was already about to finish, on the other hand. We all looked at him grossly. “Slow down, Mike. That’s disgusting.” Nancy mumbled, looking away. Mike rolled his eyes at her and continued to eat.
I grabbed my backpack once we had all finished eating. I walked over to grab mom’s car keys which I borrowed while Nancy and Mike said goodbye to mom and Holly. I hugged mom and kissed her cheek softly. “Have a good day, guys!” She waved as we walked out the door. I drive all three of us to school every day since I was allowed to legally drive last year. Once we were all sat, Nancy pulled out her flashcards from her backpack and began studying quickly. I pulled into the parking lot in my usual spot, and we all got out, grabbing our stuff. Mike walked the other way to the middle school, greeting his friends while me and Nance walked to the high school. “Everleigh, what if I fail?” Nancy whined, gripping her books as we walked in. I rolled my eyes.
“You’ll do fine, Nance.” I waved goodbye and walked over to my locker, putting stuff away. “Hey, Ev!” I didn’t even need to turn around to know who it was. I turned my head, looking at one of my best friends. “Hi, T!” I smiled, giving her a small hug. Tina was the life of every party, her outgoing personality and beaming smile made people adore her. Many boys threw themselves at her, but who wouldn’t? She’s drop dead gorgeous. I loved gossiping with her, it’s always fun. But don’t get it twisted, we have a very deep and understanding relationship. I shut my locker and slung my bag back over my shoulder. “There’s a new boy coming tomorrow. I hope he’s cute.” We walked to our first period which we shared together. First period was always loud and fun to be in, which I loved. It’s all fun and games until Mr. Mundy calls the deans. “You want a piece of gum?” I offered, changing the subject. Tina grinned and nodded. I gave her a large strip of bubblegum and I opened mine. We blew bubbles and gossiped, the both of us strutting through the halls. It’s not that I didn’t like boys. Of course, there weren’t any boys that peaked my interest. I’ve had two boyfriends before and they both used me for popularity and my looks. I don’t mean to sound full of myself, but that’s just what happened. “Are you coming to practice today?” I questioned. Me and Tina were cheerleaders, which I forced her to do. I was a cheer captain along with the ginger Chrissy Cunningham. “Not today, sorry babes. My mom needs an extra pair of hands for the bake sale. She said if I help her, I can get a few bucks.” She boasted. I nodded in understanding, also smiling at a girl who waved. Everleigh Wheeler was one of the most well known names in Hawkins High School, much unlike Nancy who’s quiet and to herself. Within a month of joining the cheerleading squad, I was at the top of the pyramid and by the end of freshman year, I’d been promoted to captain. “Oh my god, did you hear about Brian cheating on Samantha?!” My face changed into a disgusted one. “Yes!! And with Tiff? She’s such a skank. I heard she’s slept with half of the soccer team.” Tina spat. We pushed open the classroom, smiling at others. We walked to our seats, getting settled in. Tina and I sat next to each other, thankfully. I sat next to the window so I wouldn’t really have to interact with anyone but her. Math was nowhere near the top of my list of subjects I enjoyed, but I tolerated it enough for an easy pass. The class’ attention was pulled by Mr. Mundy’s booming voice who took attendance while me and Tina continued talking, not really caring, only ever stopping to say “Here”. Mr. Mundy cleared his throat. “Valentina and Everleigh. Please quiet down.” We looked up and muttered “sorry”. And we did stop talking- for about five minutes. As soon as attendance finished, we continued talking again. We turned our bodies to face each other and chuckled loudly. Mr. Mundy’s attention turned back to us. “That’s it. Tina, your new seat is there.” He pointed to the seat on the right of the one she was seated in. “Wait no, we’ll stop talking! For real this time.” She pleaded. We stared at him with sad eyes. “I’ve had enough. Move NOW.” He scowled. Tina pouted and grabbed her stuff. She stood up, heads turned to face her and walked to the seat next to her. She sat down and folded her arms, angrily. I frowned. Now I’m alone. I changed my mind, math is my absolute LEAST favorite class.
C H A P T E R  T W O
The bell finally rang after what felt like years. Everleigh grabbed her stuff and walked out the door, happy to leave. Annoyed that she no longer had anyone to talk to in first period, she stomped through the halls; her happy demeanor slipping. Her soft glossy lips fell into a pout, and she pushed a strand of gorgeous silky hair out of her face with a manicured finger. Life was just so hard.
As soon as the bell rang for the end of the last class, Everleigh strutted to her locker to put stuff away. Sure, she had some homework, but most of it wasn’t due until Friday so she’d just put that on hold for now. One of her other best friends, Melanie, was leaning against the locker next to Everleigh’s, holding two books in her arms. “Carl’s picking me up tonight for a date. I’m so excited! I need you to help me pick out an outfit.” She squealed. Everleigh didn’t like her boyfriend, Carl. He was always weird whenever she was around. He also didn’t treat her right, which made Everleigh furious. But there wasn’t much she could do because Melanie was absolutely head over heels for him.
But Everleigh could never not be excited to help her friends get ready. “Okay, what time do you want me to be over?” She grinned, shutting her locker. The girls began to walk out into the school’s parking lot. “Maybe five thirty-ish?” Melanie suggested. Melanie was decently popular. She enjoyed roller skating, cheerleading, and fashion. She had beautiful lush blonde waves which complimented her oceanic eyes. “Sure! I’ll ask my mom when I get home.” Everleigh beamed. The girls separated into their cars.
Everleigh walked to her car where Nancy and Mike waited impatiently. “Finally, why were you late this time?” Mike grumbled, getting into the car after it was unlocked. Nancy clicked her seatbelt in while Everleigh started the car. “Calm down, I was only like ten minutes late.” She hated having to defend herself to her idiotic brother. Normally, he’d continue to scold her about how he and Nancy could’ve been kidnapped or died, but this time, he let it go. While she was driving, she felt a tap on her arm which rested on the armrest in between her and Nancy. Everleigh looked over to the passenger seat where Nancy mouthed some words to her. She raised an eyebrow to say “Wait, say it again?” The brunette nodded. Then, Everleigh took in what she was trying to say. “We’re dating.” Nancy leaned back into the chair, waiting for a reaction.
“We” was Nancy and Steve Harrington. It seemed like the entire school knew who he was. Everleigh had wanted the two of them to date since Nancy mentioned he began talking to her, except it was different. He was kind around her. He listened to her and didn’t judge her for what she believes in. Everleigh grinned, satisfied. This was definitely coming up in girl chat when Mike wasn’t around.
As the siblings arrived at home, Everleigh pulled into her family’s driveway, being careful not to hit the mailbox. They all got out, grabbing their stuff. Everleigh unlocked the door where Holly was visible in the living room, playing with her toys. “Mom, we’re home!” Nancy yelled. Mike dashed upstairs into his room, slamming the door and locking it. “Micheal, stop slamming my doors!” Karen yelled from the kitchen. The sisters walked in, kissing their mom on the cheek. “Hey girls, how was school?” Everleigh walked behind her mom, with her arms folded, waiting for Nancy to respond first. “It was good. Same as always.” Nancy replied, shifting her body weight slightly. Everleigh wiggled her eyebrows from an angle so only Nancy could see, making the girl giggle slightly. Karen nodded, turning around. “What about you, Ev?”
She relaxed her face in time for her mom to face her. “It was alright. Mr. Mundy changed Tina’s seat because we were talking too much.” She rolled her eyes, hanging her coat up by the front door. Nancy had walked away to her room, probably to dream about Stevie poo. “I told you there were going to be consequences to you two chatting all the time.” Karen joked, smiling. Everleigh pouted, but then remembered about Melanie. “Can I go over Mel’s after dinner?” She asked, with begging eyes. Karen changed her position with her hand by tapping her chin above her arm. “What did you get on Mrs. Click’s assessment from yesterday?” Dang it. Of course she was going to ask this. Her lowest grade was in Mrs. Click’s class. History just wasn’t her thing. It was so boring and why did we need to know about The Great Depression anyways? “I got a B..” Everleigh muttered. Karen perked up at this.
“Well that’s much better than your last grade! A C- to a B? Good job, honey. Sure, you can go.” Everleigh stood up, proudly. “Thanks, mommy! Love you!” She ran upstairs into her room, shutting the door. She placed her backpack down next to her bed on the white carpet. She walked over to her pink telephone on her nightstand. She dialed Melanie’s number and waited. “Hello?” She heard. “Hey, Mel! Mom said I can come over after dinner.” Everleigh sat down on her bed. “Okay! Carl said he’s coming to pick me up at 7:00.” There was a loud knock at the door, interrupting the call. Everleigh covered the receiver with her free hand and took her ear off. “Yes?” She called. “Where’s my walkie?!” She heard Mike yell outside her door. “I don’t know, go away, Mike!” Everleigh snapped, rolling her eyes. “How am I supposed to know what you did with it..” She muttered. She took her hand off the receiver and put her ear back. “-and my parents don’t know about it so we have to keep it as chill as possible.” Melanie continued talking.
Once the call was over, Everleigh put the phone back. She opened one of her drawers and pulled out a silky white hair tie, shutting the drawer. She held the tie with her teeth while she gathered her hair up with her hands and tied it into a bun. She walked out of her room into the bathroom to shower. When she finished, she dried off and changed into a simple white long sleeve shirt with a pink plaid dress over top. She put on lace socks and tiny black booties. By the time she was finished, it was time for dinner.
She walked downstairs to sit at the table. Surprisingly, Mike didn’t come down for a few minutes. Karen looked at the stairs while everyone else ate. She sighed, picking up her fork. “Can one of you go get your brother, please?” She asked, waving her fork at Everleigh and Nancy. Everleigh nodded at Nancy and went upstairs. She knocked on the door. Once. Twice. No answer. “Mike! Come on, it’s dinner time!” Everleigh’s face scrunched up. She opened the door to reveal no one was there. He wasn’t in the bathroom either. Meaning he was in the basement.
She ran downstairs past her family, opening the door to the basement. “Where’s Mike?” Karen called. “Hold on!” Everleigh replied. She walked in, seeing Mike under a blanket with his walkie talkie. He sat, frozen. He pushed the antenna down and cleared his throat. He looked… sad. “What are you doing? It’s dinner time. Don’t you hear us calling you?” Everleigh snapped, folding her arms. “Uhh.. well I was trying to talk to Dustin.” He lied. “Okay well tell him you guys will talk later, I’m starving.” She stomped back upstairs.
When dinner was finished, Everleigh cleaned her plate, rushing to grab the car keys. “I’m going now, bye mom! I’ll be back soon!” She waved, closing the door. She got inside the car, driving to Melanie’s house. When she arrived, she got out of the car and walked up to the porch. She rang the doorbell and stood politely waiting. Melanie’s father, who she’s seen a handful of times, opened the door. “Well, hello, Everleigh. How are you? Come inside. Melanie’s upstairs.” He moved over so she could enter the very homely household. “Thank you, Mr. Harris. I’m good, how are you?” She grinned with that candy sweet smile that almost everyone loved to see as she stepped inside. He nodded, smiling back and shutting the door.
Everleigh walked upstairs to Melanie’s room and knocked softly. The door opened revealing Mel in her pink nightgown with curlers in her hair. “Oh, come in!” The girls squealed, excitedly. Everleigh walked over to the girl’s divine wardrobe and began looking through. “Wait, where is he taking you?” She questioned, turning around. Melanie plopped down onto her queen sized bed, smiling dreamily. “He’s driving me to Enzo’s. How romantic, right?” Everleigh was happy for her friend. Happy that Carl wasn’t being such a punk and only taking her to his grandmother’s house. I mean, of course! Grandma’s cookies always scream “romance” to me, don’t you think so?
She turned back around, taking dresses out and handing them to Melanie. “Try all of those on! See which one you think fits.” The girls put on a mini fashion show, laughing and posing. Once they finally found a dress, Everleigh did Mel’s makeup. She sat down at a small vanity so Everleigh could stand over her. “One day, you have to teach me how to do more than just mascara, lipgloss, and blush.” Melanie half joked. Everleigh nodded, grinning. She spinned her chair around to face the mirror. “Like it?” She asked, hopefully. Melanie looked beautiful. “I feel stupid!” She laughed, staring at herself. “Well everyone feels stupid! Who cares?” Everleigh turned her chair back around, adding some finishing touches.
“Do you feel stupid?” Melanie asked, half smiling. Everleigh giggled. “Yeah I did, but then I chose not to feel stupid.” The girls smiled. They always had a strong bond together, feeling they could talk about anything and everything and never feel awkward. They took out Melanie’s curlers and waited for the phone to ring or a knock on her window, sitting on the bed. And they waited. And waited. And waited…
Everleigh started getting annoyed when it was already 8 and there was nothing. She scoffed. “That prick stood you up.” Everleigh’s face was disgusted. She stood up and kissed the top of Melanie’s head. Her mascara was ruined from her crying. Now she was just silent. Everleigh could tell the girl was thinking over her relationship and she didn’t want to interrupt it. She always knew Carl was a jerk, but this ends it. She was ready for her friend to find someone better. She knew she could stay and comfort her, but something was telling her it was time for her to be alone for a while with her thoughts. “I’m sorry it didn’t work out, babes.” Everleigh sympathized.
“I’m gonna go home. My mom’s gonna kill me if I’m out past 8:30 on a school night. I’ll see you tomorrow, Mel.” Melanie nodded. She walked towards the door blowing a kiss. She walked out and into her car. She took off home. “I’m going to kill him.”

eddie who is so open with his affection and appreciation to everyone about what they do for him.
dustin offers his house for a d&d session and eddie's like "i love you, hendersen. do you know that?"
robin pays for a dvd rent one time and eddie goes "if we weren't you know, i'd marry you. thanks, buckley."
nancy gifts him some metal trinkets from some store near her college and eddie kisses her head, saying "you are a dream girl, nancy wheeler! i'd fight buckley for your hand," with a teasing nudge to robin
lucas and max randomly gives him some patches for his new vest and he hugs the teens tightly saying, "you two are the most adorable couple in all of hawkins!"
el finally caved in and made eddie float at least five inch above the ground with her mind and he praises eleven so hard saying "that is the most metal thing ever! ozzy could never!" while smiling wide and patting el's head
mike and will gifts him dice (the one eddie has been talking about every end of a campaign) and eddie dramatically wipes an imaginary tear, before kissing the head of the teens so affectionately (will smiles so wide while mike pushes him away but eddie knows mike is just shy)
steve sees that and wants to be hugged and kissed and praised like that (he's already done with realization and panicking with the help of robin and nancy). so he does everything that could elicit that kind of reaction from eddie.
he tried so hard to curate music that, aside from what eddie usually listens to, eddie would like. that took him probably three weeks with the help of, surprisingly, argyle, and, not surprisingly, jonathan.
all that got him was a "this is very thoughtful, steve. i'll ket you know what i think after i listen to it" with a sincere smile.
(steve didnt know how big eddie's smile is as he went home that night. wayne had noticed and was so curious about what (or who) put that big smile on his nephew but eddie only said a friend made him a mixtape. steve doesnt know how eddie had to bite his tongue to stop hinself from kissing steve harrington in the middle of the school's parking lot.)
steve didnt give up and buys some patches too. he wants to be hugged that tight too.
this time steve was graced with a tight hold in the arm bc apparently steve bought him a metallica patch. "you said you basically listened to them only for a week," steve said.
(eddie rewarded himself that night for only grasping steve's arm instead of hugging and twirling the other man in front of the hellfire club members by buying a pizza for him and wayne)
steve tries to go for the kiss on the temple with a sincere praise by learning how to play the first verse of master of puppets. he was blindsided when eddie literally tears up because "no one had ever exerted that much effort for me."
it's steve who pulls eddie to his side in a hug, careful of eddie's guitar, and pressed a closed lip kiss on eddie's temple, saying "i'll learn the whole song for you, eddie."
(eddie couldnt help himself as he tells what steve did to wayne that night. wayne went "this harrington kid played guitar for you?" "that's what i've been telling you wayne!" and wayne knows how important playing the guitar is for eddie so he nods and said, "let me meet him sometime,")
steve doesnt know what happened because it seemed like they went two steps backward. steve gave eddie a leather jacket. at first, he thought eddie didn't like the idea of someone buying him something expensive. so steve reassured him by saying "that's mine, munson. mom gave it to last year but its not my style so i only wore it once to show her it fits."
(but inside eddie's panicking so much because for him, this is the equivalent of some jock giving their girl their letterman jacket. but for eddie, he loves leather jackets more. and the love of hi life is giving one to him)
eddie lets himself hug steve, one arm on the waist and the other on the shoulder. "thanks, stevie. i'll take care of this," he said before ruffling steve's hair. he waits for the usual teasing irritation about not to ruin his hair but none of that happens. instead, steve is giving him a look that eddie's been the subject of this past few months. a look that eddie's been giving to steve too when the other is not looking at him.
(steve replays the sensation of eddie's warm hugs at night and decides that he wants to be hugged like that for a long, long time.)
at some point of him just giving eddie gifts or doing something for eddie, steve realizes that more than loud and obvious show of affection that eddie do to others, steve prefers the soft "thanks, stevie", the cheery "you are the best, harrington", the teasing "i'll take you up on that offer, big boy"
so whenever eddie profess his eternal love for dustin, or his everlasting gratefulness for robin and nancy, or his untamed affection to lucas and max, or his loveable teasing to mike and will, or his brotherly affection to el, steve smiles because eddie has his own way to show and tell all of those that is reserved for steve only
(the way this went in my mind:
someone: does something nice for eddie
eddie: please marry me
steve: does something nice for eddie
eddie: thanks, steve
steve, irritated: why arent you asking me to marry you!?)

Mike and El walked towards each other, saying each other’s name before embracing in a hug.
Grabbing Steve’s hand and moving impossibly closer, I looked up at him, not knowing what I would do with myself if I were ever in Mike’s shoes.
“Is that…” Max asked. I looked around Steve, looking at Max while nodding my head, whispering, “Yes.”
Once he pulled out of the hug, Mike said, “I never gave up on you. I called you every night. Every night for–”
“353 days,” El said, shaking her head before looking in his eyes, saying, “I heard.”
“Why did you tell me you were there? That you were okay?”
“Because I wouldn’t let her,” Hopper said.
Mike turned to face him, Hopper walking towards El as he said, “The hell is this? Where’ve you been?”
“Where have you been?” she asked, the two of them embracing in a hug. I saw the crown of her head go back like she was looking at Hop before her voice said, “Is she here?” He moved out of the way, El’s eyes meeting with mine.
I let go of Steve’s hand to walk towards El, giving her a hug that I only reserved for the most important people in my life.
“You’ve been hiding her,” Mike said, realization hitting him like a bus.
El turned to look at Hop and Mike, keeping her arm around me, my own still around her shoulders as we watched Mike and Hop’s small altercation.
“You’ve been hiding her this whole time!” Mike added, hitting Hop at the end.
Turning around to face Mike, Hop responded, “Hey. Hey!” He grabbed Mike’s shirt, saying, “Let’s. Talk. Alone.”
Before a door shut, I heard Mike say, “Protecting her! Protecting her?!”
A couple of moments later, I rubbed her back, saying, “Well, uh…” Looking at El, I said, “I’m digging the new look.”
A throat clearing had me looking at the owner; my little brother, Dustin.
El walked over to Dustin and Lucas, giving them both a hug, Dustin saying that they missed her and that they talked about her pretty much everyday. She noticed Dustin’s teeth, touching them. “Teeth.”
“What?” Dustin asked.
“You have teeth,” she said, a subtle duh tone to her voice.
“Oh,” he smiled. “You like these pearls?” He then proceeded to make a sound that resembled Chewbacca.
“Oh, my god,” I whispered, resting my forehead against Steve’s arm. I had moved back to stand next to him, lacing our fingers together before I had, basically, hugged his arm.
“Eleven?” Max asked, causing my head to shoot up as she walked over to El and the boys. “Hey, uhm, I’m Max.” She put her hand out for El to shake, adding, “I’ve heard a lot about you.”
El wanted nothing to do with Max, so she pushed her way through the three younger teens to move to Joyce, the two of them embracing.
“Don’t worry,” I whispered, Max’s head moving to look at me. “She’ll come around.”
“Can I see him?” El asked.
Joyce took her to Will’s room, leaving Steve and I with Dustin, Max, and Lucas for a moment before they both came back out, Joyce whispering my name.
I went into the kitchen with her and El, looking at the words Nancy had written earlier. “Wait a second,” I whispered. Pointing to the notepad, I asked, “You’ve opened this gate before, right?”
“Yes,” El replied.
Putting a hand on her back, I asked, “If we got you back there, do you think that you could close it? Put all this behind us?”
She looked at me for a moment, determination in her eyes. When Hop and Mike came out of one of the bedrooms, I told him what El and I had thought as everyone else gathered into the kitchen; getting El back to the lab to close the gate.
“It’s not like it was before,” Hopper said. “It’s grown. A lot. And, I mean, that’s considering we can still get in there. The place is crawling with those dogs.”
“Demodogs,” Dustin said, turning to face Hop.
Placing my forehead once again on Steve’s arm, I muttered, “Oh my god.”
“I’m sorry, what?” Hop asked.
“I said, uhh, demodogs,” Dustin said. “Like Demogorgon and dogs. You put them together, it sounds pretty badass–”
“How is this important right now?” Hop and I asked.
“It’s not. I’m sorry.”
“I can do it,” El said.
“You’re not hearing me,” Hop retorted.
“I’m hearing you. I can do it.”
I looked at her, impressed at her biting back at Hop.
“Even if El can, there’s still another problem,” Mike said. “If the brain dies, the body dies.”
“I thought that was the whole point,” Max wondered.
“It is,” I said, all eyes turning to me. “But if we’re really right about this, and El closes the gate and kills the Mind Flayers army, Will’s a part of that army, and closing the gate means… Will dies.” I watched as Joyce got up after my explanation.
She walked by all of us, going into Will’s room, where we all followed her. “He likes it cold.”
“What?” Hopper asked.
“That’s what Will kept saying to me. He likes it cold.” She went over to his window and closed it before turning around to us and saying, “We keep giving it what it wants.”
“If this is a virus and Will’s the host, then…” Nancy said.
“Then you need to make the host uninhabitable,” Jonathan and I said.
“So if he likes it cold–”
“We need to burn it out of him,” Joyce said, looking at her youngest son.
“We have to do it somewhere he doesn’t know this time,” Mike suggested.
“Yeah, somewhere far away,” Dustin added.
I looked at Hopper, as he thought about where.
He told them about his cabin in the woods where he was keeping El hidden. They gathered Will and bundled him up, moving through the house as Hop was giving directions to Jonathan as they did.
Steve and Nancy went out back to look for something to help with burning the Mind Flayer out of Will. He came back inside a couple minutes later, looking at me like I held the stars as I looked back at him.
“Is there something on my face?” I asked, brushing my face.
“Liv!” Dustin called.
I looked at him and walked towards him, hearing the papers on the floor rustling under everyone else’s shoes before the young teens and I walked outside to stand on the porch, watching the scene before us.
“Just be careful, okay?” Mike said to El. “I can’t lose you again.”
“You won’t lose me,” El replied.
I felt fingers going in between mine, knowing they were Steve’s.
“Do you promise?” Miked asked.
“Promise,” El said.
They stood there for a moment before Hop said, “El, come on, let’s go. It’s time.”
She got into Hop’s truck, Joyce, Jonathan and Nancy getting into Jonathan’s to do their part of this mission.
The kids, Steve and I stood and watched them all drive off, my thoughts starting to… well, start up.
Going back inside, I looked at the Demodog laying in the corner, asking Dustin what was the plan for dealing with that dead thing.
He asked Steve to pick it up and bring it into the kitchen, where I was sitting on the counter. Dustin opened the refrigerator, emptying out a space.
“I-it should fit now,” Dustin said, pointing to the empty fridge.
“Is this really necessary?” Steve asked.
“Yes, it is,” Dustin said, matter-of-factly. “Okay, this is a ground-breaking scientific discovery. We can’t just bury it like some common mammal. Okay, it’s not a dog!”
“Alright, alright, alright.” Steve moved to the fridge as Dustin moved out of the way, saying, “But you’re explaining this to Mrs. Byers, alright?” He moved his arm to put the Demodog’s head into the cold space, hitting the head against the side of the fridge.
“Christ,” Steve whispered. He looked back at Dustin, saying, “Help me out.”
“What am I supposed to do?” Dustin asked.
“Get the door, man. Get the door.”
“Aright, I got the door.”
I couldn’t help but snort before laughing while watching the two of them as I sat up on the counter. Once they got the creature in and closed the door, Steve patted Dustin on the top of his head, moving his hat some.
Steve started coming over to me, but I put my leg out and said, “You wash that alien slime off of you before you touch me, Harrington.”
He chuckled, moving to the sink to wash his hands. Once he was through, he came over to me, putting his wet hands on my cheeks, causing me to laugh. When he placed his hands on my outer thighs and placed a smiling kiss on my lips, I welcomed it.
I pulled away when Dustin said, “Demodogs!”
“Give it up already, Dustin!” I said, before giving Steve a chaste kiss and jumping down off the counter, giving him a dish towel to use to finish drying his hands.
“The chief will take care of her,” Lucas said as I walked to stand next to Dustin.
“Like she needs protection,” Max muttered.
“Listen, dude, if a coach calls a play in a game, bottom line, you execute it, alright?” Steve said.
I looked at him, confused, before saying, “First off, babe, this isn’t a basketball game, and second–”
“We’re not even in the game, we’re on the bench,” Mike interrupted.
“Right,” Steve stammered. “So my point is…” He was silent for a moment before I said, “Care to share that point?”
“Right, yeah, we’re on the bench, so, there’s, uh, there’s nothing we can do,” he said, putting the towel over his left shoulder.
“That’s not entirely true,” Dustin said. “I mean, these Demodogs, they have a hive mind.” He looked at me and Steve, eyes bouncing between us. “When they ran away from the bus, they were called away.”
“So, if we get their attention,” Lucas said.
“Maybe we can draw them away from the lab,” Max added.
“And clear a path to the gate,” Mike finished on their train of thought.
“And then we all die,” Steve and I exclaimed.
“Well, that’s one point of view,” Dustin said.
“No, that’s not a point of view, man,” Steve said. “That’s a fact.”
“Excuse me, Liv,” Mike said, causing me to move out of his way. “I got it.” He moved around to the kitchen, finding the spot he needed on the map, squatting to say, “This is where the Chief dug his hole. This is our way into the tunnel.” He got up and moved into the hallway, standing and then kneeling by a spot on the map that was bigger than the rest. “So, here - right here. This is like a hub. You got all the tunnels feeding in here. Maybe if we set this on fire–”
“Oh, yeah, that’s a no,” Steve said, pointing down towards the kids while looking down at them.
“The Mind Flayer would call away his army,” Dustin said, jumping on Mike’s theory.
“They’d all come to stop us,” Lucas added.
“Hey,” Steve and I said, trying to get their attention.
“Then we circle back to the exit,” Mike said.
“Guys.”
“By the time they realize we’re gone–”
“El would be at the gate,” Max said.
“Hey,” we tried again, Steve clapping while saying, “Hey, hey, hey!” Gesturing to the ground, he said, “This is not happening.”
“But–” Mike tried.
“No, no, no, no, no! No buts!” I said.
“I promised I’d keep you shitheads safe, and that’s exactly what I plan on doing. We’re staying here on the bench and we’re waiting for the starting team to do their job. Does everybody understand that?”
“This isn’t a stupid sports game!” Mike said.
Taking the towel off his shoulder, Steve repeated, “I said, does everybody understand that?” He looked at the kids then at me before looking back at the kids. “I need a yes.”
We all turned to look at the front of the house upon hearing an engine revving. I instantly recognized it after hearing it on his first day of school.
“Oh, sweet shit,” I muttered.
Max and Lucas moved the couch, looking out the window. “It’s my brother,” she said. “He can’t know I’m here. He’ll kill me.” She looked at Lucas as she added, “He’ll kill us.”
I looked at Steve, seeing that look on his face that I knew all too well. “No.”
“Stay in here with the kids,” he said. “I’m gonna go talk to him.”
“Steve–”
“Just stay here,” he said. He looked me in the eyes, waiting for me to answer, so I just nodded before feeling his lips on my forehead. He went outside and stood at the door on the front porch. I only knew this because I moved to the couch with the kids, looking out the window.
Billy turned his car off, the lights shutting off as he did. I was thankful because I was getting blinded by them. He got out and put his hand on the top of the car, taking a drag from his cigarette. “Am I dreaming, or is that you, Harrington?”
“Yeah, it’s me, don’t cream your pants,” Steve replied.
The walls were thin enough for me to hear their conversation.
Billy took off his jacket, putting it in his car before shutting the door as Steve walked towards his car, Billy doing the same towards Steve. “What are you doing here, amigo?”
“I could ask you the same thing, amigo,” Steve said.
“Looking for my stepsister,” Billy said, looking towards the window. “A little birdie told me she was here.”
“Shit,” I whispered.
“Huh, that’s weird,” Steve said. “I don’t know her.”
“Small? Red-head? Bit of a bitch.”
“Doesn’t ring a bell. Sorry, buddy.”
Billy took another drag from his cigarette, before saying with some weird hand motion, “Ya’know, I don’t know, this… this whole situation, Harrington, I don’t know. It’s giving me the heebie-jeebies.”
“Oh, yeah, why’s that?”
Another drag before Billy says, “My 13-year-old sister goes missing all day,” before looking me dead in the eyes for a second before adding, “And then I find her with you and Henderson in a stranger’s house,” another look, “and you lie to me about it.”
“Shit, shit, shit,” I whispered with every look.
Chuckling, Steve turned his head towards the window before turning back to Billy, saying, “Man, were you dropped too much as a child, or what? I don’t know what you don’t understand about what I just said. She’s not here.”
As Billy pointed to the window with his cigarette, I put my hands on two of the kids' heads as he said, “Then who is that?”
Steve turned to face us as I pushed their heads down, exclaiming, “Shit!”
“Did he see us?” Dustin asked.
“Oh, shit,” Steve said. He turned back to Billy as I moved away from the window, moving the kids off of the couch towards the hallway.
A couple seconds later, Billy walked in the house, saying, “Well, well, well,” slamming the door behind him. “Lucas Sinclair, what a surprise.” He took a few steps to us, stopping when I crossed my arms.
“Touch these kids and you’re dead,” I spit.
“Max disobeyed me,” he said.
I scoffed. “Like she has to obey you.”
“She knows what happens when she disobeys me.”
“What?” I chuckled. “You go to your room and cry like a little baby?”
“I break things,” he said, shoving me out of the way.
I landed on the floor on my back, hearing the door open.
“Liv,” Steve said, helping me to my feet.
“Billy’s gonna hurt Lucas,” I breathed, both of us walking towards the kitchen.
“You’re so dead, Sinclair,” Billy exclaimed. “You’re dead.”
Steve moved him away from Lucas, saying, “No. You are!” before punching him square in the jaw.
Dustin chuckled, while Max said Steve’s name. Lucas ran over to me, so I had my arms wrapped around him, trying to protect him. I think Mike was just too stunned.
Billy laughed as Steve shook his hand out and fixed his hair before he looked in my direction for a moment before looking back at Billy as the asshole said, “Looks like you got some fire in you after all, huh? I’ve been waiting to meet this King Steve everybody’s been telling me so much about.”
Steve put his fingertips on Billy’s shoulder, pushing him back a little as he growled, “Get out.”
Billy stood there for a second after Steve put his hand down. He swung his fist, but Steve ducked, hitting him back and sending him towards the kitchen sink.
“Yes!” Dustin and I said.
“Kick his ass, Steve!” Dustin said.
“Get him!” Mike said.
Billy just stood up and laughed, but Steve hit him again, myself and the kids cheering him on.
Steve landed another punch, as Dustin and I exclaimed, “Murder the son of a bitch!”
I watched Billy grab for a plate as he laughed, the kids still cheering Steve on.
“Steve, watch out!” I said, but was too late, as Billy had shattered a plate on Steve’s head. I let go of Lucas to put my arms around Steve. He looked at me for a second before I bolted away from him, giving Billy my own punch to his face.
“Olivia, baby,” Steve said. “Move.”
I was pulled back by one of the kids, as Billy walked toward me, Dustin’s voice in my ear yelling, “Shit!” before both of our bodies went down, Steve’s groans sounding at the same time.
I watched Billy follow Steve into the living room, where he grabbed Steve’s jacket, saying, “No one tells me what to do,” before headbutting him.
“Steve!” I exclaimed, seeing my boyfriend’s body slide against the floor.
Billy hooped and hollered, telling Steve to get up.
I was fighting against Mike, Lucas and Max, the three of them helping Dustin keep me back from putting myself in the middle of the two teenage boys.
“Billy, you’re gonna kill him, stop!” we all said at different times.
“Steve, baby, you have to get up!” I said.
Billy got a few hits in, the boys and I telling Billy to stop and for Steve to fight back. I felt hands let go of me before I saw Max move towards Billy, sticking something in his neck.
The boys and I stopped our protests to Billy, said boy standing up and facing us, taking what I now know to be the needle for Will sticking out of his neck.
Looking between the needle and Max, Billy said, “The hell is this? You little shit, what did you do?” He went down to the ground, hard, laughing once he landed on his back.
Feeling hands lightly push me, I made my way quickly over to Steve, elevating him by placing the back of his head on my knees as Max got Steve’s bat, holding it up.
“From here on out, you leave me and my friends alone, do you understand?” Max said.
“Screw you,” Billy slurred.
She brought the bat down, mere inches away from Billy’s junk before picking the bat back up, the nails having dug into the floor a little. “Say you understand. Say it. Say it!”
“I understand,” Billy mumbled.
“What?”
“I understand,” he said, a little more loudly before passing out.
Max moved to his left side, taking his keys from his pockets. She held them up, saying, “Let’s get out of here.”
“Wait,” I said. “We can’t just leave Steve here. We need to patch him and take him with us.”
“What do you need?” Dustin asked.
“A warm washcloth, some Neosporin and band-aids, please.”
The kids got into gear, Dustin bringing me a warm, wet washcloth. He knelt next to Steve as I gently started cleaning as much blood as I could without hurting him, even though he couldn’t feel it in his passed out state.
When he was all cleaned and patched up, Dustin helped me carry Steve to Billy’s car where Mike opened the driver side door, leaning the seat forward and letting Dustin climb in first.
“Dustin, how the hell am I gonna get him in the damn car when I have his arms?” I groaned.
“Uhhh,” Dustin said.
“Hurry your big brain up, he’s heavy.”
“Switch on three,” he said. “One… two… three.”
I moved out of the way so that Dustin could wrap his arms under Steve’s, dragging him in the car as Max, Mike and Lucas brought all of the gear they gathered while I had patched up Steve.
“Careful,” I said. Once Steve was in, Mike got in. “Where–?”
“Liv, over here,” Lucas said, opening the passenger side, pushing the seat forward. It was awkward getting in the back with Dustin, Mike and Steve, but we somehow made it work. Lucas got in the front seat with Max in the driver.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to drive?” I asked, leaning forward, turning my body a little so as to not scrunch Steve’s neck too much.
“I got it,” Max said. “You need to be with Steve.” I leaned back, looking at Steve’s beat up face. As Max started driving, I ran the backs of my fingers over the parts of his face that weren't bloodied and bruised. I heard him wake up a few moments later, watching as he turned his eyes to Mike, saying, “Nancy?”
Mike and I looked at each other like, what?
Steve groaned, going to touch his face. I moved his hand out of the way as Dustin said, “No, don’t touch it.” He tilted his head a little to look up at Dustin.
“Hey, buddy,” my brother said, shushing Steve. I rolled my eyes at his antics. “It’s okay. You put up a good fight. He kicked your ass, but you still put up a good fight.”
“Dustin,” I groaned.
“Well, he did.”
A pained look on Steve’s face had me petting his forehead into his hair. He might kill me later for touching his hair, but I didn’t care.
“Okay, you’re gonna keep straight for a half a mile, and then make a left on Mount Sinai,” Lucas said.
I watch Steve turn his head towards Max, seeing her driving.
“What’s going on?” he asked, before the kids’ plan came back to him. “Oh, my god!”
“Babe, relax,” I said.
“She’s driven before,” Dustin said.
“Yeah, in a parking lot,” Mike added.
“That counts!” Lucas and I retorted.
Steve started freaking out more as Dustin said, “They were gonna leave you behind.”
They really did. When I patched him up with the supplies they all found, Lucas, Max and Mike wanted to just leave and go with their plan, but Dustin and I didn’t wanna leave him with Billy when they both woke up.
“Liv and I promised that you’d be cool,” Dustin said.
“I didn’t say jack shit!” I exclaimed.
Max sped up more, Steve repeating whoa a few times before asking, “What’s going on?” I even felt the force of the car speeding as Steve said, “Whoa! Stop the car. Slow down.”
“Don’t puke on me.”
“I told you he’d freak out,” Mike said.
“Stop the car!” Steve exclaimed.
“Everybody shut up!” Max yelled. “I’m trying to focus!”
“Oh, wait, that’s Mount Sinai,” Lucas said. “Make a left!”
“What?”
“Make - turn left!”
Max effectively ran into a couple mailboxes before sharply turning left, everyone in the car screaming and holding on to something or someone; Steve grabbed my leg, Dustin grabbed the front of my shoulders, I grabbed the seat in front of me as well as Mike’s shoulder, Lucas… well, I have no idea about him. She stopped once we got to our destination, Steve yelling out, “Whoa! Hello!”
“Incredible,” Mike said.
“I told you,” Max said. “Zoomer.”
The kids piled out of the car, followed by myself and Steve, who leaned against the opening of the passenger door. The kids went to the trunk to get their gear on and to grab their backpacks, while I stood at the back near the back window.
“Oh, no,” Steve groaned. “Hey, guys.”
Mike, in full gear, walked past me and Steve to the front of the vehicle, the older teen asking, “Hey. Hey, where do you think you’re going?”
Dustin handed me my gear; a bandana to keep my nose and mouth protected as well as some goggles to keep my eyes protected as well.
“What are you, deaf?” Steve said. “Hello?”
I think everyone was ignoring him at this point, myself included. I didn’t want the kids to go through with the plan, but I wouldn’t have been able to stop them anyway.
“We are not going down there right now,” Steve continued. “Liv and I made ourselves clear.”
Turning to face him, I said, “You made yourself clear. I knew I wasn’t going to be able to stop them.”
“Whatever,” he said. “There’s no chance we’re going to that hole, alright?”
Dustin had a bag ready on the side of the trunk to grab it when he needed it, but Steve grabbed it and slammed it back in the trunk yelling, “This ends right now!”
“Babe!” I said at the same time Dustin said, “Steve!” while turning him around.
“You’re upset, I get it,” Dustin said while I shouldered my bag. “But the bottom line is, a party member requires assistance, and it is our duty to provide that assistance.”
“Now, we know you promised Nance that you’d help me protect these kids,” I said, grabbing his bag from the trunk, holding it out to him. “So, help me keep them safe.”
We looked at each other for a moment before he lightly nodded his head and grabbed the bag from my hand, putting on the bandana and goggles.
Mike, Lucas and Max had already walked to the hole, gas cans, rope and map in hand, so when Steve put on his gear, he, Dustin and myself walked to the hole, the kids going down the rope first before Steve went down.
He looked up at me, holding his arms out to catch me as I slid in, my hands landing on his shoulders.
I looked around, seeing what looked like flecks of snow floating around. “Holy shit.”
“Uhh,” Mike said. “Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s this way.”
Steve helped me put on my bag as I had dropped it first before I turned around and helped him as Dustin asked, “You’re pretty sure, or you’re certain?”
“I’m 100% sure,” Mike said, turning to face the party. “Just follow me and you’ll know.”
He turned back around right before Steve and I said in unison, “Whoa, whoa, whoa, hey, hey, hey, hey, I don’t think so.”
“What?” Mike asked.
I walked towards him, saying, “Any of you little shits die down here, Steve and I are getting the blame. Moreso me. You got that, dipshit?”
Hearing the paper map Mike had in his hand rustling, I looked at it in Steve’s hand as he turned and said, “From here on out, I’m leading the way.”
With an eyebrow raised, I watched as he put the paper in between two of his fingers that were holding his flashlight before he grabbed my hand and led me down the tunnels, as I said, “Let’s go! Hustle!”
I’m not sure how many tunnels we went through; it could’ve been one, it could’ve been 100, I wasn’t sure. Only thing I was sure of was that the part of the tunnel we were in looked like a giant nest of some sort. Very hard to describe.
“God,” Lucas said.
“What is this place?” Max asked.
“Can we keep moving, please?” I asked. “This place is freaking me out, and making me want to scrub my skin off in the shower.”
“Come on, guys, let’s keep moving,” Steve said, leading the way out of this… nest?
I heard screaming a few seconds later, followed by a “SHIT!” Stopping my steps, I said, “Dustin?!” Running back to him, I knelt down next to him, asking him, “What the fuck happened? Are you hurt? Dustin, talk to me!”
“It’s in my mouth! Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!” Dustin said before he started coughing.
I was breathing heavily, anxiety and worry filling me up fast.
He spit before looking at me. “I’m okay.”
Small bit of rage filled me as I hit his arm, yelling, “Don’t fucking do that again, Dustin Wade!” Standing, I let out a frustrated growl, pushing my way past Steve and the kids.
“Are you serious?” Max asked.
“Very funny, man,” Steve said. “You almost gave your sister a heart attack.”
I could see the flashlight trail beside me as I heard Steve tell me to wait up. When he caught up with me, I was walking down what seemed like steps within this tunnel.
“What the hell?” I whispered, looking around the… I guess, room we were in.
“Alright, Wheeler,” Steve said. “I think we found your hub.”
Looking around, I grossly underestimated how big this hub would be. I breathed in a deep breath, releasing it as confidence took over.
“Let’s drench it,” Mike said.
The four younger teens started drenching the hub in gasoline while Steve and I watched. I felt him rub his hand up and down my back. “I’m so ready for this shit to be over with. I want my boring life back. I wanna be able to sleep and not have nightmares.”
“Once we burn this place, it’ll go back to normal,” Steve said. “I promise.”
The kids came back to Steve and I when their cans were emptied, all of us squatting down.
“Alright, you guys ready?” Steve asked, the kids echoing, “Ready.”
I grabbed the lighter from my pocket, holding it up to Steve, saying, “Light her up.” He grabbed it from my hand, his eyes looking into mine before he said, “We’re in such deep shit.”
Steve flicked the lighter, the flame appearing immediately before he tossed it into the gasoline. Flames instantly started burning the hub, the vines almost dancing around as Steve said, “Go, go, go!”
He didn’t have to tell me twice as I got up and started following him and the kids back through the tunnels. Map in hand again, he was at the front of the line, Dustin behind us repeating oh my god like it was a mantra or something.
We made it to the little room where Dustin had his freak out just a few minutes before, Mike’s muffled, “Help! Help! Help!” making me grab Steve’s jacket and telling him Mike needs help.
All of us went back to help save Mike, a vine wrapping around his ankle when we got back to him. “Pull him out, pull him out!” I yelled.
The kids and I grabbed on to him, playing tug of war with Mike and this vine.
“Back, back, everybody back!” Steve yelled before he started whacking at the vine before it split, releasing Mike.
I looked at Steve with heart eyes, I’m sure, saying to him, “If we weren’t basically in the Upside Down, I’d kiss you stupid.”
“You can do that later,” he said. “Now, come on.”
A growling behind us made everyone turn to face it, the growling coming from Dart. I grabbed onto Dustin, not wanting him anywhere near Dart.
“Dart,” Dustin said, taking a couple of careful steps towards the creature.
“Dustin, no,” I said, trying to pull him back.
He gently pulled himself from my hold, turning to face me. “Liv, trust me. Please.” Turning back to face Dart, Dustin walked forward at the same time Dart did. “Hey. It’s me, it’s me. It’s just your friend. It’s Dustin.” He knelt on one knee in front of the creature, asking, “You remember me? Will you let us pass?”
When Dart opened his face at Dustin, I jumped, ready to save my little brother as Steve wrapped his arm around my waist to keep me in place.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry,” Dustin said. “Liv and I are sorry about the storm cellar. That was a pretty douchey thing to do. You hungry? Yeah?” He took a strap off his shoulder, reaching into his bag.
“He’s insane,” Lucas said, all of us shushing him after.
“I’ve got our favorite, see?”
“Nougat,” I whispered as Dustin said aloud to Dart.
I could tell he was opening it just by the way his arms were moving. “Look at that. Yummy. Here, alright? Eat up, buddy.” He moved his hand for us to move past him and Dart, the creature now distracted. “Come on, come on.”
After Max moved first, I felt Steve lightly push me to move forward, him and the other two boys following.
“There’s plenty more,” Dustin said. “I’ve got more.”
I stopped a few feet away to turn and watch my baby brother say goodbye to his interdimensional pet. “Goodbye, buddy.”
“Let’s go, let’s go,” Steve whispered.
We made it through the tunnels, probably about three quarters of the way back to the rope before the ground beneath us started rumbling, almost like an earthquake for a couple seconds.
I stood from having fallen over at the rumble, hearing the unmistakable Demodog roar.
“What was that?” Max asked.
We turned from the direction we just came from, hearing them roar again as Mike said, “They’re coming. Run! Run!”
He did not have to tell me twice. I just ran, not caring if I was going the right way or not, but thankful I turned down the right tunnel when I saw the rope. “There! Come on!”
I stopped at the rope, waiting for Steve to help me get the kids up to safety.
We got Max up first, then Lucas, followed by Mike and Dustin. Steve went to bend to hoist me up before I started to protest.
“No, no,” I said, watching him stand. “I’m not leaving you to die alone.” He tried to protest, but I just put my hands on his chest, saying, “No! I just got you, I can’t lose you already.”
I heard the monsters before I saw their shadow, Steve standing in front of me a little with his bat out to protect me, the kids shouting above us, “Liv, Steve, come on!”
I screamed a little as one came charging at us, closing my eyes, ready to see nothing but black, but… nothing came. As I opened them, I watched as they all passed us, Steve grabbing onto me as I leaned back a little to dodge the Dogs.
I was breathing so hard, my goggles started to fog up before I breathed, “Eleven.”
Steve and I made it up the rope after the Dogs ran past us, the headlights on Billy’s Camaro getting brighter and brighter before they dimmed back to their normal brightness.
Grabbing Dustin, I gave him the biggest hug ever, thankful that I still had my little brother with me. “I love you, Dusty,” I whispered. When I pulled back, I looked him in the eyes and said, “If you tell anyone I said that, I’ll deny it.”
He smiled. “Same.”
Turning to Steve, I smiled at him before wrapping my arms around his middle, just holding him for a moment, feeling him do the same with his arms around my shoulders. I looked at him after a few moments, saying, “I really thought I was going to lose you.”
He shook head. “You’ll ever lose me. I promise.”
I smiled at him, ready to kiss him stupid like I said earlier, but didn’t, not wanting to hurt his already swollen lips from getting the shit knocked out of him by Billy. Lightly touching them, I said softly, “When these aren’t swollen, I’ll kiss you stupid.”
He smiled a little before wincing at the pain.
A throat being cleared made me turn around, seeing Max with Billy’s keyring on her finger.
“I’ll drive,” I said.
~~~
After I had dropped Steve off at his car, I took the Camaro back to the Byers, Steve following me. Billy was still passed out on the floor, so I just dropped his keys on his abdomen before getting into the driver seat of Steve’s BMW, driving the kids back home.
I gave Dustin the option of staying at home alone or staying with Mike. He opted to stay with Mike. Steve also gave me options; go home or go with him. I chose the latter. I didn’t wanna stay home alone.
When Steve and I made it back to his house, we took our showers before I cleaned him up some more and patched him back up. We cuddled in his bed that night, talking about anything and everything; fears for the next few weeks, goals, what we wanted out of… us.
I sighed. “I don’t want a comparison relationship. I don’t want us to be compared to you and Nancy.”
Running his fingers lightly on my arm, he said, “We won’t. And if anyone tries to say it in front of us, I’ll kick their ass.”
I chuckled, looking up at his jawline, cupping the right side of his face. “Need I remind you why that would be a bad idea?”
He chuckled a little, resting his hands on my arms before he sighed. All I could hear was his heartbeat under my ear as I closed my eyes, silence following.
I wasn’t sure what this thing between Steve and I would hold… if it even held anything.
All I wanted was Steve… and I got him.
~~~
One Month Later
It was sad officially saying goodbye to Barbra Holland, but her parents and Nancy needed closure. I had told Steve that it felt right and respectful to be at the services for Barb, and he agreed.
Steve took me home after the funeral services, promising he’d be back to take me on a small diner date later. As I was getting ready, I heard Dustin stomp around the house, saying, “Son of a bitch! Son of a bitch!”
I walk out of my room as my mom and I asked, “Where did you see it last?” She was sitting in her chair holding our new kitten, Tews.
Pointing at a spot on the counter, Dustin said, “Right here, where I put it.”
“What’s so important anyway?” I asked, crossing my arms.
He picked up a brown paper bag, turning to us and smiling. “Got it.” After running past Mom and I, the doorbell rang.
“That’s your ride, Dusty!” Mom said.
Eyes wide, I realized I wasn’t fully ready. Turning to bolt back to my room, I said, “Son of a bitch!”
~~~
“Why am I always in the backseat?” I groaned as Steve pulled up to the Middle School gym.
“Because I’m more special, that’s why,” Dustin replied.
Leaning in between the front seats, I glared at my brother. “I’m his girlfriend, I think that makes me more special.”
When Steve stopped the car, he said, “Stop bickering, please. We’re here. So, remember, once you get in there…”
Dustin turned his head to face Steve, confirming, “Pretend like I don’t care.”
I facepalmed as Steve said, “You don’t care.”
“I don’t care.”
“There you go. You’re learning, my friend. You’re learning.”
Dustin checked himself in the rearview mirror, making sure his hairstyle was still in place.
“Dusty,” I said.
“What?”
“Come on, dude. You look great. I mean, you used half that can. I could smell it down the hall.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
“Okay,” Steve said. “Now, you’re gonna go in there–”
“Yeah,” Dustin said.
“Look like a million bucks.”
“Yeah!”
“And you’re gonna slay ‘em dead.”
“Like a lion,” Dustin said, before proceeding to growl.
“Uuuuuuhhhhh, don’t do that, okay?”
“Okay.”
Steve stuck his hand out, Dustin wrapping his own around Steve’s as the older teen said, “Good luck.”
Dustin and I got out before I gave him a hug, whispering, “Care,” before I lightly shoved him away from the door, telling him to have fun as I got in and shut the door.
I looked at Steve, and him at me before we leaned towards each other, smiles on our faces. Our lips connected in a sweet kiss before we pulled apart, Steve driving off with his hand on its normal spot; my thigh.
I was so happy with Steve. Nothing could destroy it.
★When you first got hired, the other animatronics were either really wary or really excited.
★Chica was probably the first to approach you and your little friend.
★Then followed by Bonnie; he wanted to see what Chica was so excited about.
★The last to actually engage with you was Foxy: only approaching you once Freddy decided to.
★Helpy helps you almost everyday: doing things like bringing you a plate of food to helping you with the animatronics maintence.
★He engages with the others pretty well, he's really close with Freddy. (small child and big child duo)
★When Mike got hired, you were actually nervous to meet him.
★People were usually weirded out when you showed them Helpy, but he took it pretty good?
★When he brought Abby in, she had alot of fun with Helpy, hugging him like a (literal) teddy bear
★Helpy can't really talk, but he somehow understands what the animatronics say
★Will help you with the fort if you can't lift heavy things.
★If Helpy breaks somehow and he can't help you, Vanessa or Mike will offer to help you. (either at home or at the pizzeria.)
★If you give Helpy the ability to percieve senses (smell, to feel textures and stuff) he'll be overjoyed!
★Until he can feel the cold of winter.
★Would probably sneak inside your shirt/hoodie (he's cold :( )
dream theory
A drabble based on the prompt by @lab-trash that Ness is the reason why Mike has the dream theory book.
Also cross-posted on AO3!
◞♡࿐
It’s not often Ness gets to hear Mike talk a lot, much less ramble. The shorter man mostly conveys what he wants to say through his actions, not his words. But sometimes, late at night when the moon is shining through their bedroom window, Mike will talk about what’s bothering him.
He talks about Abby a lot and his worry about providing for her and parenting her. Ness will comfort him and remind him that he isn’t alone anymore and they will go overcome every hurdle together. Other times, it’ll be about his parents and specifically his dad, who Ness can easily guess was distant. But very rarely, it’ll be about Garrett.
Mike hates talking about Garrett and what happened to him. He only gets a few words out before he clams up and Ness doesn’t push him any further. Well, until one night.
They’re lying in bed and the lamp next to Mike is off but neither one of them are sleeping. Mike is draped across Ness’ chest with Ness’ hand and arm over his body. Maybe it’s the drink or two they had before bed (when Abby was asleep) but Mike starts talking and just… doesn’t stop.
“When I was 12, we were camping in Nebraska and my mom had stepped away for a second when it happened. She told me to watch my brother and I got distracted and he got taken.” Mike swallows the lump in his throat as well as his tears. “The police never found him or his… body or the man who did it or anything. I saw the car and sometimes, I feel like I saw the man who did it too but I can’t remember.” Ness hums in response to show he’s listening, carding his fingers through his boyfriend’s hair.
Suddenly, Ness remembers something. “You know, I was at the library once,” a usual sentence starter as Ness loves reading random books in his free time, “and I picked up this book. It was called Dream Theory. Basically, it talks about how the human brain doesn’t forget things. Everything you see is stored inside of you, even the smallest things. So, if you think you saw him, it’s probably in there.” Ness explains, tapping Mike’s head as he murmurs the last sentence.
They sit in silence for a minute, Mike thinking over what Ness has just said and Ness waiting for a response. “You think… if I could relive that day somehow, I could find out who took him?” Mike asks in disbelief. “I read it a while ago, I don’t remember too much of it.” Ness chuckles at the irony. “Maybe I could get you the book.”
Mike lifts his head, meeting Ness’ eyes and leans forward, kissing his boyfriend. “Thank you.” He mumbles quietly, sleepiness setting in. “Of course, sugar. Just… don’t push yourself, okay? I know how hard it is for you to talk about him.” Ness smiles softly but Mike is already asleep against his chest. Ness lays in bed for a few minutes in silence, wondering if he’s done the right thing.
◞♡࿐
Ness buys the book the day after, skimming through it in the bookstore to make sure it’s what he remembered it was. He bites his lip as he reads, wondering if he should really give this to Mike. He doesn’t want his boyfriend basically reliving one of the most traumatic things that happened to him every night. But maybe, just maybe, he can find something out about his brother that will start the healing process. With that thought in mind, he buys it.
He gives it to Mike that night when they’re about to go to bed. “What’s this?” Mike hums, holding the book in his hands. “You were tipsy, I think, but we talked about the night Garrett was taken and you said you might have seen the man who did it. I think this can help you figure it all out.” Mike is silent and Ness wonders if he’s done or said something wrong.
“Thank you, Nessie.” Ness’ heart races at the nickname and the hug he receives after. It’s just like hearing the words “I love you” and it’s plenty nerve-wracking because they haven’t said those words before. But, Ness says it back anyway. “I love you too, Mike.” On his tiptoes, Mike buries his head into the crook of Ness’ neck, book clutched tightly in his hands.
Top 5 reasons why I firmly believe Byler is endgame.
This is just my opinion, I’m not saying these are THE most compelling reasons as a whole.
01. Will’s painting + the way it was set up and used.
As is, we know that Will’s feelings in the van 100% represent what he feels about Mike, with some of it applying to Eleven. But the painting was Will’s, those were his feelings, that was his effort, his gift. If the writers wanted it to feel like these were El’s feelings, with some of them applying to Will, then THE PAINTING WOULD’VE BEEN FROM HER.
We ASSUME those are somewhat El’s feelings as well because that’s what Will implied to both Mike AND the audience, aka his POV of their relationship. This narrative REMOVES El’s perspective on the matter. We don’t truly know what her stance in her own romance is at this point anymore, and we got no interactions between her and Mike in the end to confirm that what Will said still applies to her or if it ever truly did to begin with. Why permit WILL to help solve their relationship issues, at the cost of his own feelings and heart, instead of giving Mike and Eleven a say in their own romance, to make the decision themselves and solidify them as a powerful romance? It was left open-ended for a reason. Because Mileven is the safe/obvious option. A red herring.
The painting having been from Eleven would’ve confirmed to the audience that Eleven still needed and wanted Mike romantically after all. That their relationship could still be saved and that it was up to Mike now.
This whole set up, as painful as it is right now, was necessary to move the three character arcs forward in a way that felt natural. Elmike (platonic) + Byler (romantic) is the only conclusion that leads all three parties to find balance and harmony with each other.
02. The Unreliable Narrator theory.
The unreliable narrator technique was applied in s4 to conceal a big reveal.
Victor Creel was an unreliable narrator.
When we first learn about Henry and his family, we do so through the lens of his father Victor. He had some answers, but not all of them, and since he did not know his son was a murderer, we as the audience were led to not suspect him. The general audience relies on Victor’s narration fully and doesn’t question anything. However, a more observant audience would have noted that something about Henry felt off, particularly when his mother was killed. He was just sitting there showing no emotion in a context where he should have.
Not only was Victor Creel an unreliable narrator, the story was incomplete without Henry’s perspective and his re-telling of the SAME story.
Flip Victor with Will, and Henry with Mike. We saw s4 from Will’s POV as a way to make us sympathize with him, meaning the story is incomplete without Mike’s POV. An example of this technique being present in their dynamic is in Rink-O-Mania. Will felt ignored and we did not once see Mike look at him, but during their fight we learnt that Mike WAS paying attention to him and noticing the little details about his behavior. Will leads us to believe this isn’t a big deal, and so the audience learns what he learns, and believes what he believes. At face value, we’re supposed to take Will’s POV and just assume Mike’s in his own head/worrying about his own problems. But an observant audience would pick up on Mike’s strange behavior around Will. Mike’s POV will reveal the TRUTH once we finally get it in S5, and Will’s expectations, along with the audience’s, will be subverted: Mike was acting strange around Will because his feelings are requited. Because a rejection is already expected.
03. The airport scene.
This is basically self explanatory. If Mike doesn’t know Will is in love with him, as CONFIRMED by the Duffers and Finn, WHY does he act so awkward around him? It cannot be that he’s grown shy of physical contact with his friends, because we literally saw him hug Dustin in episode 1. It cannot be that it’s been THAT long he feels awkward around Will now, because it’s only been 6 months and they hugged fine when they last saw each other.
But most importantly, if Mike wanted to act cool and like everything was normal, HE WOULD’VE HUGGED WILL. He’d have hugged his bestie without a problem to keep on the facade that he’s NORMAL and this cool guy, but instead he went the route of pretending he didn’t care … because he was jealous. And then spent the whole season seeming nervous around Will.
Will was there when Mike said he loved Eleven that one time. And has no idea now that their entire problem was him being unable to say it again. Once again, this entire thing seems confusing because it is MEANT to be until they unravel the truth in S5.
04. Try before you deny. The pineapple on pizza analogy.
Call me delusional all you want, but it is NOT the first time they use this type of foreshadowing to hint at a character’s sexuality IN THE SHOW.
‘Blasphemous. Putting FRUIT on pizza?’
The pineapple on pizza thing is a debate irl but in the context of the show IT IS QUEER CODING. The writers know that. And when Mike goes ‘No, you’re right. It’s good!’ the camera is on Will. This isn’t ‘proof that Mike is gay’ this is a HINT, an ANALOGY. The pineapple represents ‘boys’, specifically, Will. The question now is if this analogy does end up meaning something in the end. And in my opinion, it will.
And to any audience (that isn’t homophobic), it will be quite ironic and humorous upon rewatch seeing Mike being told to ‘try before you deny’ something knowing he ended up with Will. It’s very on brand with the show, it’s not delusion.
05. The type of show Stranger Things is.
Having one of the main couples get together at the end while they had been developed SINCE S1 RIGHT UNDER PEOPLE’S NOSES feels extremely on brand, especially having it be one of the final surprises of the entire series. It would also increase rewatch times, as if you did not notice it the first time, you’d HAVE to watch it again with the thought of Mike being queer in mind. It all falls into place then and it is sincerely GENIUS. Duffers have said they know the most ‘popular’ option isn’t always the best one, and as it stands, Mileven being the endgame would be the most predictable and expected outcome.
There are MANY more, but these are basically the ones that just bring it home to me.
pairing ; eddie munson x fem!reader ♡
summary ; you’ve been neglecting the person who’s been longing for you most..
genre/warning ; just a short angsty, fluffy piece
fairy note ; i hope someone can enjoy this bc this is a super rushed lil piece aha ha,,
Tumblr media
you were a dreamer, the glass half full kinda person, always high-spirited, and vibrant and you carried a bounce in every step.
so when you sat down with a glimmer in your eye and a beaming grin on your face to announce some big news— you were high-hoped, expecting reciprocated excitement but most of all, approval from your best friend, eddie munson.
“what’s got you so cheery?” mike spoke up, sipping on the orange juice box he had stuffed in his bag before school.
“maybe eddie finally told her.” dustin nudged mike and you leaned in, eyes narrowing in confusion, temporarily diverting from your original plan, upon hearing eddie had something to tell you, which he had not yet done.
“told me what?” you interrogated the boy and he grimaced, eyes darting back and forth between you, and the scraggly long-haired boy he bought up in conversation, cursing under his breath before continuing.
“he wanted to keep it a surprise so don’t tell him we said anything or he’ll kick our ass!” henderson whispers harshly and you nod, once again peering back at eddie briefly.
mike rolled his eyes at his friend's evident secrecy, not very stealthy, “he’s planning that dnd campaign you’ve been writing about, y’know that whole book you had with the art? the town it’s set in, the spells, races, and monsters— yeah well, he’s basically been studying it for the next campaign on friday.”
your eyes lit up in pure delight, “really?!” you gasped, clutching your hands near your heart and kicking your feet under the table.
it was always a plus to your friends that you were so approachable and open-minded, you let yourself be influenced by their interests so you could find the fun and joy in it, with them, but when eddie met you that's one he loved most out of so many of your qualities. you didn't criticize him, make snide jokes at his expense and to him, that was so new, so refreshing. everything that would excite him, would excite you just as much, you loved participating, adapting, listening, and being enthusiastic about what eddie loved, it bought you much more joy rather than any interest you had yourself.
so when you had finished your first campaign with eddie and his friends you had been jumping up and down eager for the next one and then the next one, one after the other every single time, even if it took a while for eddie to set them up.
you had gotten hit with a wave of inspiration that translated into pouring into your little notebook, a whole new dnd world. pages upon pages of written up homebrew lore and doodles to go along with everything, it wasn’t so serious to you at first, just a thing you did in your spare time but when eddie caught sight of it he asked you a million questions, insisting that it wasn’t stupid— like you had thought and he even told you he’d be able to incorporate some, if not all, of your written up ideas into a campaign or two one day and you were beyond overjoyed, you didn’t even know he could do that! it honestly only made you fall a little harder for the brown haired boy but you always pushed those feelings aside.
you glanced back at eddie upon hearing the news, wanting to stride over to him at the top of the table and crush him in a suffocating hug, but you couldn’t, this was a surprise he was planning for you.
the whole town treated eddie as if he was less than dirt under their shoes, they knew nothing about him, wouldn't even greet him with a kind glance, let alone begin to understand him. they all held so much judgment and animosity with no valid reasoning and it would break your heart— eddie, in a sad but better-then-dwelling way, just brushed it off, mumbling to you it's fine every time someone would utter freak under their breath or gesture mockingly to him. it wasn't fine, it never was, it was cruel and unfair and if it wouldn't make it worse on eddie's behalf, you would've said something, confronted them all one by one but maybe you were a bit of a coward.. an appeaser.
“what’s so funny over there henderson?” eddie called out, watching the kid's eyes go wide before he shook his head, going quiet, not wanting to get caught upon revealing the sweet plans eddie had with you in mind.
you cleared your throat, an opportune time to intervene, “i have something to share with everyone.” your voice wavered a little, everyone’s eyes now on you.
“well.. you all know chris? i'm thinking about maybe making it serious with him.” you announced with a taut laugh, rubbing your palms on your thighs, the silence making them clammy.
“like basketball chris? friends-with-mega-asshole-jason kinda chris?” gareth asked, wide-eyed and the sandwich he was eating, forgotten about on the table.
“yeah! but he’s not like jason! h-he’s really nice!” you told them, hands coming up like you were already trying to defend yourself, glancing eddie’s way but he was hard to read, just staring down at the bag of nuts he was snacking on.
“wait y/n, we didn’t think you were actually serious about that guy, like yeah maybe he’s a prom date or whatever but date, date?” dustin spoke up, leaning back in his chair and looking at you in disbelief, eyes boring into you like it would help convince you.
“huh? he’s not an asshole.” your shoulders slumped, a pang in your heart at everyone's instant gloomy response.
"yeah, i'm sure he's not like that, that you can totally fix him." mike cooed sarcastically and you scowled at the boy.
"wow, i wish i never said anything, sorry, was just an idea.." your arms crossed over your chest, breathing picking up in frustration.
you heard a chair screech across the floor on the other side of the table, wincing at the sound as you watched eddie walking out of the cafeteria, metal lunchbox under his arm, and snacks forgotten about on the table.
you sighed, leaning your head back, feeling dejected and foolish for bringing chris up when clearly everyone but you knew that he was a touchy subject.
it was wednesday now, two days since you had sat down at the table, found out about that surprise, told everyone about you and chris and two days since eddie hadn't spoken to you.
it was apparent that he was ignoring you, eddie would never avoid you like he had been, he always made time for you and would drop everything for you.
you didn't even go directly home that day, you went straight to eddie's trailer and despite not seeing eddie's van you still knocked on the front door, being greeted by his uncle and of course, being told eddie hadn't come home yet.
wayne even let you inside and you waited around for eddie for an hour or so, wayne even noticed you looked a little distressed and offered to tell eddie you had stopped by and to reach out, so eventually, you went on your way.
and even now you were still feeling troubled, chris in the driver's seat beside you as he took you home after your third date together. this was supposed to be a good night and it was, the date was sweet but you couldn't help but feel bummed out all night but on the brighter side chris hadn't picked up on it and maybe you were just convincing yourself that chris didn't need to hear any of your worries or perhaps you were a little cautious bringing up your friends in front of him.
it was true, you had never picked up on chris being anything as bad or radical as jason, the bigoted, arrogant dipstick that terrorized anyone abnormal.
sure.. he was friends with the guy but, you've had questionable friends before, okay maybe not, you did cut those friends off once you found out how awful they are. but you were trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, jason didn't have to ruin everything for everyone else.
"thanks, chris." you gave him a brief smile once you saw him pull up outside your place, leaning in to place a peck on his cheek, squeezing his hand, and promising to see him again tomorrow.
"who's that?" you felt chris leaning away, ducking his head and squinting to try to make out the figure leaning beside your door.
you followed his line of sight, instantly recognizing eddie and laughing in disbelief and a little bit of panic, "o-oh, that's my friend, i don't know what he's doing—"
"listen i know you can choose whoever you wanna be friends with, but don't you hang out with way too many guys? and he's just waiting around outside your place? isn't that one guy some drug dealer too ?" chris looked ahead at you and you blinked at him, void of any expression, "i'm just looking out for you y/n."
"don't.. don't say that." you scoffed, mouth hanging open before you pushed open the passenger door and walked towards eddie, hearing chris's footsteps behind you.
"eddie munson." chris spoke up first, before letting you even say anything.
you saw eddie's head snap in the direction of you both and you felt your heart twinge, his big puppy eyes looking between you both knowingly as he already turned on his feet to leave.
"see, told you these guys are up to no good, he's already running off like he got caught." chris scoffed, a stupid smug smile on his face.
you felt like you couldn't move in the moment, stiff and horrified.
you blinked and eddie was already pulling out the driveway, breathing in and out slowly, you turned around, "i never want to see you ever again." you muttered under your breath, trembling.
“y/n wha—“
“leave! right now!” you screeched, shoving him back with a firm shove, “you don’t get to talk about my friends like that, i don’t want anything to do with you.” you grimaced, looking him up and down before walking away in the direction of the side walk, fists balled up in frustration.
“you deserve whatever you get coming your way, you’re just like them, freak!” chris yelled bitterly, window rolled down as he zoomed past you.
you didn’t care how many i-told-you-so’s you’d have to endure upon the result of this, all you cared about was getting to eddie.
you were breathless and cold by the time you had gotten to his trailer on foot but regardless, you were there and eddie was too, you noticed his van parked on the grass.
“eddie!” you whispered out harshly, knocking on his window since you didn’t want to disturb wayne this time.
“eddie please, open the window, i gotta talk to you.” you got on your tip toes, peering through, jumping in shock when you saw it whip open and eddie standing there.
“i don’t feel like talking anymore, i’ll take you home but you can’t be here right now.” he shook his head, going to walk away but you called out for him again.
“hey, i’m sorry, p-please just let me in, it’s freezing fucking cold eddie.” you whined.
“yeah it is cold, i know.” he scoffed, watching you push yourself inside, he still helped you get safely on your feet, despite how upset he was.
“hey, i didn’t know you were back there waiting for me.. i’m sorry and about chris i’m—“ eddie cut you off, letting out a groan.
“don’t bother.” eddie forced out a laugh, sitting at the edge of his bed and twiddling rolling papers between his fingers, “i’m just some good for nothing drug dealer.” he nodded condescendingly, you went to speak up but eddie continued, “so really y/n you don’t have to bother anymore, i’m kinda done with all this.” he shrugged nonchalantly.
you were speechless, staring at the back of his head and squeezing onto your arm to comfort yourself, “you don’t mean that.” you shook your head, “a-and i don’t agree with him! i never would, i swear eddie, if i agreed i wouldn’t be here!” you breathed out, desperate.
“oh please, you just pity me— i mean c’mon..” he glanced back at you, throwing his hands up in defeat, “don’t pretend you’re not happy seeing me like this.”
you frowned in displeasure, shaking your head rapidly, “you know i’m not like that. the last thing i want to do is u-upset you eddie.” you felt your bottom lip quivering, tears threatening to spill.
“maybe that’s true but i find it hard to believe.” he sighed, breathing out the smoke he just inhaled and you noticed his hands trembling.
“no, eddie, listen to me.” you insisted, kneeling down in front of him and taking a hold of his free hand in yours, looking up at him with big eyes.
“i would never purposefully do that and i’m so sorry i let you down i-i let someone i vouched for talk to you like that..” you bite down on your bottom lip, trying not to get worked up. “i should’ve listened, to the others about what they said but i was stubborn.. i-i was hopeful, liked his affection, it didn’t have to be him but it happened to be and i took it like an idiot.” you shook your head.
“i’m sorry, that’s not the point but, eddie.. believe me, i’ll never let that happen again.” you squeezed his hand, holding his gaze.
“you really like him?” eddie tilted his head up a little, eyes darting away from you.
“i did.. i was starting to,” you admitted, “but it’s true, he’s like the others.” you mumbled, looking down and squeezing your eyes together, wanting the ground to swallow you hole.
how could you be so stupid, letting this happen, expecting everything to be dandy. it was ridiculous.
“i’m just.. i’m not as upset at you for falling for him, i’m not.” he shook his head, “i think i’m upset at myself more than anything.” he spoke quietly, you could barely hear him.
you frowned, not understanding but you didn’t force anything out at him, just comfortingly giving his hand a squeeze.
“because.. i like— i mean, ugh!” eddie groaned, rubbing his fingers to his temples and tapping his feet anxiously against the floorboards of the trailer, “i’ve like fallen really hard for you.” he admitted, eyes squeezed shut and hand covering his face.
your mouth gaped open and it was silent for a what felt like forever but was probably just a few seconds before eddie spoke up again, peeking out from the gaps in his fingers, “i don’t wanna take it out on you, like it’s your fault because it’s not, and really y/n, i don’t want your pity, whether guys you’re into insult me or not. just kinda hurts,” he breathed out, hands moving into his lap as he fiddled with the rings on his fingers, “so, if you let me be selfish we can forget this happened, go back to normal or i can forget about what chris said, you can go back to him, stop wasting time here.” he shrugged.
you couldn’t believe what he was even suggesting of you right now, “eddie, stop, stop doing that.” you frowned, “i don’t wanna go anywhere. i’m staying right here.” you insisted, taking a deep breath.
“i’ve thought about us too..” you admitted, laughing nervously and staring down at the floor, “before i ever even met chris or anything.” you shrugged, “i just.. you always talk about leaving hawkins behind and, i thought that meant you’d leave me behind too so i tried to just suppress that kinda feeling you know?” you winced at your words, feeling like your heart was beating out of your chest.
“sorry, it sounds stupid.” you shook your head, breathing out shakily and glancing up at him.
“no, it’s not stupid, what i said was stupid, making you think i’d leave you behind, i’d never be able to do that unless you forced me to.” he laughed out before pursing his lips together, eyes shyly hovering over your face, “you really used to like me though or you’re just saying that?”
“used to?” you widened your eyes before scratching behind your head shyly, “i mean.. i never really stopped thinking about the what ifs so i don’t think it’s ever been a used to..” you were nervous, being so open with him but it was a relief in a way, “so i think.. i still feel that kinda way.” you bit on the inside of your lip.
eddie’s was in disbelief, but he believed you, he didn’t have zero doubts or worries, but he could feel you were being genuine, and eddie always went with his heart, he was just a big softie at the end of the day, “so i like you, and you.. like me as well?” he asked quietly, pursing his lips together to stop the big dumb smile that was threatening to overtake his features.
“it seems like that.” you laughed, looking up at him and reaching out to take his hand, “d’you wanna hug a little?” you asked quietly, blinking up at him with the cutest expression he had ever seen.
“yes, i’d like that.” he whispered, almost inaudible but it didn’t matter, feeling him tug you up into his hold, arms snug around your waist as you laid on top of him, giggling and arms wrapping around his shoulders.
“does this mean i can take you on a date?” he asked, mumbling with his face against your shoulder and you nodded,
“mhm, you can take me on so many dates eddie munson, all the dates in the world.” you grinned from ear to ear, basking in his comfortingly warmth.
you fluttered your eyes open once you felt eddie tilting your chin up, seeing his face leaning up underneath you and you squeezed onto him reassuringly, leaning in to press your lips to his.
the way both your mouths meshed together, even if it was a little clumsy at first, sharing giggles— it felt so long overdue and natural to you both, letting yourselves run out of breath, feeling the way eddie kept his head leaned up and kissed over your every feature.
“you’re so pretty, i wanna make you my girl.” he spoke out, cheeks tinted pink and you could’ve leaned in to kiss him more for hours on end.
“then i guess i’m eddie munson’s girl, sounds pretty nice to me.” you winked, pressing a kiss to his forehead.
“oh! does this mean i’m re-invited to the campaign on friday? since you’re not being grumpy and ignoring me anymore?” you teased at which eddie playfully rolled his eyes.
“you were never uninvited, it’s for you anyway.” he shrugged, fingers dragging up and down soothingly on your arm.
“i know..” you smirked, mischievous giggle at the tip of your turn as you watched eddie’s bottom lip jut out.
“what ho— oh those little shits! they told you didn’t they?!” eddie sat up a little with you, mouth agape.
“hey! it’s fine, doesn’t ruin it for me, i love it, thank you.” you cupped his face, watching him shyly glance away, big twinkly eyes crinkling into a smile.
“well, i’m still mad at them.” he huffed, rolling his eyes and pretending to be tough, but it only made him look a hundred times cuter.
“mhm, my big scary softie!” you cooed,
"you're nghm—" you squished his cheeks together, hearing him grumble in protest before tugging your hands away from his face, "i said you're gonna be the death of me." he chuckled, kissing each of your fingers, "but i think i'm okay with that." he sighed out contently.
you've never felt everything so in place, right where you've always meant to be.
I Do - Billy Hargrove X Female (Henderson) Reader
Tumblr media
Title: I Do
Billy Hargrove X Female (Henderson) Reader
Additional Character: Basically every main character of Stranger Things (Mentioned)
| Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | FINAL CHAPTER
WC: 1,618
Warnings: Slight sibling angst
You too thought back to five years ago. Most times you thought back to your wedding. It was small, but perfect in your eyes. When they were planning, they didn’t want to do it in a church or chapel. They both wanted to be wed outside, somewhere nice like a forest or the beach. But, sadly, the beach was unattainable. So they decided to do it in the Henderson backyard. You and Billy sent out handmade invitations, mostly made by you, out to Steve, Robin, the children, and most of the adults.
 When they told everyone, many of them had different reactions, but in the end, they were very happy for the two and were excited about the wedding. First, they told your mom, who once literally took both your and Billy into your arms, squealing and crying tears of joy. Grabbing Your hand, you ogled over the ring and praised Billy on his choice, which he puffed out his chest in pride. Then Susan and Max; Susan congratulated the two, giving you a hug. While Max, her jaw dropped and your eyes grew wide, she froze until she, like your mom, did a small squeal, Max did too, jumping into You’s arm.
“I’m gonna have a sister!” You chuckled, wrapping your arms around the girl.
“I always wanted a sister…” Max mumbled into your shirt, which made you tear up.
Next was your brother, Dustin. He was gone at the arcade the day they told your mom, but when he was home, you both told him the big news. Sitting down in the living room, both you and Billy sat waiting for Dustin to get back from Mike’s house for the day. Soon enough, the door bursts open, and Dustin runs through, skidding to a halt when he sees his sister and Billy in the living room.
“Dustin, can we talk for a bit?” Dustin nods slowly, confused, as he looks from his sister to Billy and back.
Sitting down on the opposite couch, you cleared your throat as Billy looked at the floor.
“Dusty, don’t freak out at what I am about to tell you.” You spoke, voice calm and even.
Dustin’s eyebrows wrinkled as he nodded his head. “Okay…”
You looked to Billy, taking his hand in yours for comfort, you knew this was hard for him, looking back to your brother, you continued.
“Billy and I are getting married.”
Dustin stared at the both of them for a long time before he said anything.
“Really? To him?” He asked, and you could tell that he wasn’t pleased to hear the news.
“Yes, to Billy.” You spoke carefully, you really wanted Dustin’s blessing more than anyone else.
“But… but, he’s Billy! He’s a jerk, and he basically terrorized my friends! He beat Steve up! He tried to beat up Lucas! He’s… he’s-”
You immediately got up, a frown on your face, and tears in your eyes. You quickly left the room and up the stairs, slamming the door. Dustin sighed, frustrated, and held his head in his hands. He didn’t mean to make you cry. Billy sat there for a moment, before getting the courage to speak.
“Dustin, I know I haven’t been at all a nice person to you and your friends, and I am not trying to force you to like me, but I love your sister. Very much. And I know what I have done in the past doesn’t give me the right to even try and ask for forgiveness, and you probably don’t want me as a brother… But your sister was really hoping you would give us your blessing… For the wedding.” Billy spoke up awkwardly, nervously rubbing the back of his neck.
Dustin watched and listened, seeing how seemingly genuine Billy was acting and speaking. He’d never seen Billy nervous or anxious. Only cocky and with a stupid smirk on his face. Dustin thought and nodded, looked at the stairs, before getting up and going upstairs. Hesitantly, he knocked on your door, which slowly opened a moment later.
Dustin walked in seeing you on your bed, cuddling a teddy bear Billy won for you at a fair months ago, tears were still in your eyes and on your cheeks, as you looked at Dustin. Dustin shuffled into the room further, sitting down next to your. They sat in silence for a moment until he spoke up.
“Even though I don’t like Billy, I know he makes you happy. And, that makes me happy. So, if you want my blessing, I’ll give you it.” He spoke, each word making your tears become tears of joy.
Latching onto Dustin, you pulled him into a hug, sobbing lightly. “Thank you, Dusty…” You spoke, as Dustin gently rubbed your back.
“Yeah, yeah…” He spoke awkwardly, before pulling back.
“But, if he ever hurts you or anything to make you cry, I am stealing Steve’s bat.” Dustin threatened, but you just laughed and brought your brother back into the hug.
Later in the week, the others were told. Robin had found out at work, seeing you with a ring on your finger, automatically calling you out teasingly.
“You getting hitched?” She asked, a smirk on your face.
She knew with whom, having seen Billy come into the shop to see his girlfriend and get a scoop of mint chocolate chip almost everyday. You blushed and nodded, sneaking a glance at your ring before heading into the back to grab more flavors for the front. Steve was sitting at the break table, mouth open and eyes wide, much like how your brother looked. That slightly worried you.
“You’re getting married to Hargrove?” He asked, and you nodded carefully.
Steve was silent for a good while until he spoke again, looking back from the wall, lips pursed.
“If he does anything stupid, I’ll get my bat.” He threatened, similar to Dustin’s, which made your smile.
“Thank Steve, but I don’t think you’ll need it.” Then all that was left was to tell Mike, El, and Lucas.
That was easier said than done. You did it when they came over for a movie night at their house. You just outright said it. Which caused a lot of emotions everywhere. Mike was shocked, yelled all his concerns but in the end, he accepted it. Lucas just stared at you like you were crazy or an alien, but he took longer to convince than Mike. And, El, sweet El, accepted it immensely, having a similar reaction to Max but less squealing and crying. Now, Will, he found out because your mom told Will’s mom. Will came to you with a drawing as a congrats.
Later that month, you went with Susan and your mom to find a dress. It took a bit, but you had found the one. It was pearl white, with short bell sleeves, and a sweetheart neckline. The skirt was flowy and went down to your ankles, and was made of many soft layers of tulle. Lastly, you wore a small tiara in your hair and pearl white short heels. Both you, your mom, and Susan cried when seeing the full thing.
Soon enough, the day arrived. Your maid of honor, Max wore a nice pale pink dress, similar in style to your dress, and El, your bridesmaid, wore the same pale pink in a similar dress as well. On Billy’s side, Dustin was the best man, in matching tux with Billy. Then Steve, Lucas, Will, and Mike were the groomsmen, in the same matching tux, though they had different colored ties.
As they stood at the flower altar, both sides of the family were sitting, waiting. El and Max were already at the front, along with the boys. Billy stood, hands clasped before him. Breathing in and out, trying to calm his racing heart. Soon the music began, not a normal wedding march, but an instrumental from one of Billy’s favorite songs, something you had let him choose, which he was very grateful for.
Then, you came down the red carpet, towards the altar, your mother walking you down. Billy sucked in a sharp breath, his eyes never leaving you. You looked up from the ground, making sure you wouldn’t trip. Sheer veil over your eyes, you could see Billy in front of you. You could make out the tears lining his eyes and the smile on his face. Once in your place before him, Billy quickly took your hands in his.
“You look so beautiful.” He whispered, which made you smile more than you already were.
“Thank you…”
Before you could reminisce about the rest of your wedding, Billy caught your attention. He stared at your, smirk on his face, eyes filled with mischief. He knew he caught your daydreaming, as you did so much with him. Blushing fiercely, you looked down, hands fidgeting to get your in your lap.
“What were you thinking about, Mrs. Hargrove?” He asked, gently nudging your cheek with his nose, causing you to smile.
You blushed, you would never get used to being called that.
“Our wedding…” You spoke softly, and Billy gave a soft chuckle.
“What about our wedding?” He asked, teasing you at this point, you decided to fight back.
Giving him a smirk of your own, you looked up and wrapped your arms around Billy’s neck, looking deep into his ocean blue eyes.
“About how handsome you were.” You spoke and Billy smiled.
“And are?” He asked shyly, yet with the same mischief as always.
All You could do was nod, with a smile of your own. “And are.” You confirmed.
“Well, thank you, Beautiful.” He spoke, before pulling you in for a passionate kiss.
Title: “ No work, only cuddles ” Characters: Caregiver!Mike, Regressor!You, Big/Caregiver!Scott(mention) Genre: Fluff Warning(s): [N/A] Extra Notes: Hi Friends! I’m back and with the requests finally getting done and worked on. There’s lots more in the queue and requests will be becoming my top priority soon enough since school’s calming down and I have more time to write.
Also! I used the nickname ‘Bubba’ for Mike, since I felt it fit him perfectly, and he uses the nicknames ‘Bean’, ‘Kid/Kiddo’, and ‘Little One’ for you.
   Mike laid on the couch, a very small you laying on his chest with a pacifier bobbing up and down contently in your mouth. A cartoon you seemed so invested in played on the small T.V. Mike had set up in his living room only a few weeks earlier. He'd zoned out from whatever cartoon was on, humming softly with a hand patting your head and running his fingers through your hair gently which was very much appreciated by you.
   His eyes drifted over to the clock that sat on the wall. '11:17' He had to get to work soon, which meant he needed to get you a babysitter. No way you could stay home alone in such a small, fragile mindset. He reached for the phone on the table beside the couch, hearing a soft whine come from you as he moved. "Hey, hey, it's alright. I'm not leaving yet, Kid." He grabbed the phone and settled back down again, you getting back into your comfortable position and continuing to focus on the cartoon.
   He carefully dialed up Scott, putting the phone up to his ear and letting it ring. Eventually, the other picked up and a rather passive conversation ensued. Basic 'hi', 'hello', 'how are you?' small talk went on for a little while, the conversation going nowhere until Mike finally asked. "Hey, you think you can watch this little one? I gotta go to work soon and they can't be home alone for so long -- Yeah, yeah, them. They regressed earlier and have been cuddling with me for awhile, I think they're awfully small right now -- No, I got supplies, don't worry. I gotta go soon so, please hurry."
   You'd been focused on the cartoon, dismissing the conversation your caregiver was having. That was until you heard him say he had to leave soon. That didn't go unnoticed, that worried you. Why'd he have to leave? He couldn't leave, you were cuddling! It was just rude to leave during cuddles. You whined loudly, nuzzling into him causing him to focus all his attention onto you and dismiss himself from the idle conversation with Scott. "Hey bean, what's wrong? Hm? What's with the fuss?" he kept his tone as light as he could, hoping it'd soothe you in some way.
   You only whined louder as if it would somehow tell him what was wrong. He hummed as if he understood, frowning worriedly. "Yeah, Scott? I'll talk to you in a bit -- Mhm, bye." He carefully reached over to put the phone away, but you took that as he was gonna leave and hugged his torso, attempting to hold him in place. He stayed where he was, stretching himself so he could put the phone back without moving that much before settling back down again.
   "Kid, I can't help you if I don't know the problem. You think you can try to help me figure it out?" You shook your head, too upset to do much of anything besides cuddle. He sighed softly, "Alright Kiddo, but I can't help if I don't know. Are you hungry?" You shook your head. "Thirsty?" Another shake. "Want a toy?" You shook your head again. "Sleepy?" You shook your head violently causing him to hum softly. "Then what's wrong?" "No go.." You nuzzled your head into Mike's chest as he raised an eyebrow.
   "No go? You don't want me to leave?" You nodded, cuddling deeper into his chest. He sighed fondly, smiling down at you and patting your head. "Alright little one, alright. I'll see what I can do." He moved to grab the phone again, dialing Scott once again and continuously patting your head to hopefully keep the displeased whine and sounds at bay. It rang for a bit before Scott picked up. "Hey Scott, yeah -- I know, don't worry about watching after them though. I just -- Yeah, please? That or find someone else to. -- Yeah, I know I owe you and I'll -- Yup, I'll watch him. Sound good? -- Thanks Scott, see you Monday."
  You hopefully looked up at him once you felt him reach to put the phone back down. "Bubba no go?" "Bubba's not going anywhere, bean. Bubba's gonna stay right here with you." You smiled widely, nuzzling into him affectionately which made him chuckle softly. "I think it's getting late though Kiddo, it's almost midnight. Much, much too late for a little one like you to be up, hm?" You whined softly, enjoying the cuddles and not wanting to move. "No bed.." "Yes bed. Not right now though, you still have a few minutes Kid. Okay?" "Okay Bubba.."
   The two of you relaxed for a little bit, cuddling on the couch until Mike deemed it too late and began getting you ready for bed - much to your displeasure. Bath, pajama's, bottle, pacifeir, and of course, your favorite plush. "Night kiddo, sleep tight, okay?" He patted your hair down gently after he made sure you were tucked in and comfortable. "Mhm, night-night bubba." He smiled, walking over and turning off the room light while keeping the smaller night-light on for you, and closed the door almost completely before going and beginning to clean up the rest of the house before heading to bed himself.
I recently saw a twitter post on Pinterest that said:
“how much do we bet that Mike said he’s gonna get milkshakes at rink-o-mania and only got two?”
….. which is such a bad take 😭😭 like, that’s SO out of character, even while Mike puts on his fake act!
@xxcreamixx also pointed out that while Will doesn’t have a milkshake he actually got cotton candy so he probably just didn’t want one.
My guess on what happened there is that El is actually the one that wanted to get milkshakes because that’s the most logical scenario. Mike has never been in Lenora before and he simply did whatever El wanted to do, so I doubt that he’d be the one to suggest anything. El is also the one who actively excluded Will from the day (“I want today to be about you [Mike] and me.”) and basically threw Will under the bus by implying that she’s so cool she gets invited to parties at rink-o-mania while Will isn’t. And I’m not trying to drag El through the mud with this but if anything I kinda feel like she would’ve been the one to say she gets milkshakes only to return with two (girly was going through a lot, ok!). Though I don’t think anything like that happened anyway.
I think El told Mike that she needs a break and dragged him off the rink where they waited for Will which tbh, was probably Mike’s idea. Not to pretend like Mike was an angel that day because he was ridiculously far from it but it was pretty obvious that El intended to shut Will out while Mike did not. El had no issue at all with Will not engaging that much but Mike was very rather pathetically trying to get Will’s attention. In my opinion the awkward hug at the airport was more about himself than it was about Will and while Mike definitely did try to put some distance between them it’s pretty clear that he never intended to exclude Will in the way he ended up doing (again, since Mike is really doing some gymnastics in that scene to get Will’s attention, and justify why Will should’ve given it to him). Will was of course rightfully miserable and drained of all his energy that day and he acted appropriately for the way he felt. He wasn’t making any effort at all to include himself because from his perspective it was clear that Mike and El didn’t want him there. He was acting distant and annoyed and overall a little mopey (yes, Mike was right about that) so I’m pretty sure he didn’t show any enthusiasm about getting snacks either, which is very reasonable given the whole situation. Nonetheless, he still contributed to being left out with this self sabotaging behavior and ended up excluding himself. So I can definitely see how Will was self sabotaging/excluding himself again when it came to getting snacks, thus ordering the pre-packaged cotton candy so he could go ahead and find a seat while Mike and El still waited for their milkshakes. And when they’re all sitting in their booth no one is making an effort to include Will.
So in conclusion, I just think it’s curious how it’s once again rather clear that every single one of them had a hand in how rink-o-mania went down but people can’t stop putting all the blame on Mike. Especially here where it’s obvious that El was more actively involved in excluding Will. She obviously had a reason for it and we all know that while she intended to exclude Will she never actually wanted to hurt him, but she still clearly contributed a whole lot to Will getting excluded that day and it’s very tiring to see everyone brush over that and create out of character takes to somehow make Mike the overall bad guy. And that’s not to diminish that Mike was a jerk that day, he absolutely was, but he wasn’t the only one excluding Will and more than that it’s super obvious that Mike actually did not intend to not talk to Will at all (once again referring to the instances in which Mike is shown to make truly ridiculous attempts to get Will to communicate with him).
I once again just want to point out that I do not object to pointing out and admitting that Mike was acting like an ass that day. I don’t want to erase, nor hide that, because it’s true and important for the scene itself, but the situation is a little more nuanced and Mike’s motivations are a little more complicated and complex, and I just feel like takes like the two-milkshakes one from pinterest are only made by people who strongly dislike Mike and don’t acknowledge the complexity and nuance, simply because by reading the take it gets obvious that the person who made it has the surface level perception/understanding of “Mike is a jerk” and now assigns attributes and actions to him that emulate that, instead of trying to understand and dissect the character and situation and create takes in which Mike might still be acting like a jerk, but within the realm of what actually makes sense and fits his character. And in cases like that it’s not pointing out Mike’s actual mistakes anymore but making up mistakes and blowing things out of proportion for the sake of making Mike into something he’s not. And that has nothing to do with drawing attention to something that is canon, it’s just people wanting Mike to be mean and unlikable so bad that they push that onto the character regardless of wether it makes sense in canon.
