𝙧𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬 ┊ instead of sleeping, satoru and your daughter argue over what to name her stuffed dragon.

𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩 ┊1.9k words. established relationship (#married). the toddler dialogue is purposefully not structured correctly since it’s words from a toddler. fem!reader. intended lowercase. warning: you will wish you had a kid with gojo after reading this.

𝙖𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙤𝙧𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙚.┊this was gonna be a basic thought post, but i got more and more interested in the concept and was like “y’know what? fuck it, ima just make this into a full fic.” so here we are with a more full look at dad!gojo <3.

satoru mumbles, "but i think he likes being called spike,” and it's obvious that he's sulking. you don't even have to look up from your book to confirm it.

“well, you don't know him like i do!” your daughter replies, tucking herself into your side.

you flip through the picture book's pages fast, just getting brief glances of its colorful illustrations. unicorns, dragons, knights, and princesses decorated the pages. after turning the last page, you sigh and put the book down on the nightstand. despite the fact that the book was designed for toddlers, it actually looked interesting. you just know you would love to read it to your toddler. you can imagine yourself reading it to her, seeing the excitement on her face as she explores the world of fantasy—her absolute favorite genre.

but unfortunately, that image in your head will have to wait for another day, because her attention? is completely taken by the debate between her and her father.

how the argument started is beyond you. just ten minutes ago, you and satoru were snuggled up on your daughter’s bed, trying to read her to sleep. and now? satoru and her are in a heated debate over what to name her stuffed dragon. it's tough not to be amazed at how something so easy can become so complicated with him.

"i bought him, drove him around in my car, and wrapped him up in a cute little box for you. i think we know each other pretty well.” satoru smiles and reaches across the bed for the dragon.

“nuh-uh! he not even like you!” your toddler, with her tiny hands and puffed cheeks, clutches her stuffed dragon tightly against her chest. the plushie, its vibrant green scales and friendly eyes, seemed to come alive in her hold.

he retreats back to his seat on the edge of your daughter's bed, his lips curled into a frown as he asks, "how come?"

her mouth opens, then closes again. you look away for a moment to give satoru a look of disapproval, and by the time you return your attention to her, her brows are already starting to furrow. she mumbles under her breath, "because," running her small fingers around the plush dragon’s ear. she looks to be at a loss for words, as if she hasn't come up with an answer to satoru's question.

but that's okay, since you—happily, do.

"because you’re taking his time away from storytime. and satoru, in case you didn't know? when it's time to go to bed, we have storytime.”

your daughter looks up, her face beaming as she screams, "yup! and mommy picks the super-duper bestest stories ever!"

satoru gasps, his eyes never leaving yours as he rises from his bed and holds his chest. "baby, who's side are you on?"

you roll your eyes, "i'm just sa—"

"oh, sweetheart," he mumbles as he rushes around the corner of the bed, his movements quick to reach your side. without wasting a second, he rests a palm on your forehead, checking your temperature with a clear look of false concern. concerned people don’t have to hold back the urge to smile. actually, they don't have a smile at all—but for some reason, satoru does, and he's terrible at hiding it. "are you sick? having some hallucinations? is that why you've decided to side with enemy?”

your daughter giggles, and it only feeds satoru's act.

he turns his head towards the source of the giggles. a playful pout forms on his lips as he teasingly asks, "or did this little munchkin of ours use her princess magic to change your mind? she has a way of doing that to me sometimes, y’know."

his free hand reaches towards your toddler, fingers wiggling in anticipation. as his fingers make contact with your little one's soft, ticklish skin, even more giggles slip past her lips.

she tries to squirm away from his touch, but that's when he adds another hand to the tickle fest, and all chance of escape is gone. at that point, she visibly gives up, curling into herself to try to halt her dad’s tickling.

“i-i don’t have powers, daddy!” you daughter manages to stifle out through her laughs. you smile at the sound—it’s one you'll never get tired of hearing.

"you can't be a princess without powers! every princess has powers!"

“i-i'm n-not a princess though!“

satoru's fingers pause in their spot, his eyes widening in disbelief. "not a princess? how on earth can that even be?"

you’re sure if she needed him to, he could easily write an entire book about how she’s a princess.

he scoops her up from her place next to you, careful not to let her dangling legs hit you in the process. she lands on his hip, her eyes fixated on him as he lovingly whispers, "you're daddy's little princess!" he pauses, then adds, "and mommy is the queen, so that makes me—"

“the king?”

“you’re just so smart, huh? see, a perfect quality of a princess.”

“but princesses have dragons! big ones with so many pretty colors and names! they go—“ she cuts herself off and raises her tiny arms high. with a wide smile on her face, she takes a deep breath and lets out a loud roar.

satoru nods and smiles warmly at her, "oh, i see...well, y’know what? not all princesses have dragons.”

she tilts her head, and you awe at the sight. “they don’t?”

"nope," he says, taking her tiny hand in his, wrapping it securely around his finger. he lightly massages the back of her hand, and it’s soothing—scratch that, reassuring. you can tell from the way your daughter leans her head on his shoulder, tucking herself in the crook of his neck. "you don't need a dragon to be a princess. you're my princess ‘cause you're kind, smart, and full of love. i'd say that's all you need to be one."

"really?" she asks, waiting for his nod before continuing. "okay…but i still want a dragon."

"i get it, munchkin," he hums as he takes the dragon plushie from the bed. "we still haven't figured out a name for this guy, hm?"

“nuh-uh!”

“he looks like his power is being super cuddly. he's so cuddly that he puts you right to sleep…how ‘bout…fluffy?"

“ew.”

“fluffy sounds cute, no?”

"but dragons aren't cute. daddy, they breathe fire."

"wel—" satoru begins, but your daughter interrupts.

“his name should be fireball!”

“satoru, she does have a point,” you assert.

she really did. it was a dragon, not something adorable, but something that’s usually thought of as a villain—or a protector. athough deep down, a part of you just wanted this little debate to finally wrap up so you could finally catch some much-needed sleep.

“i thought i took away all of her princess magic?” satoru frowns, "stop siding with the enemy!"

you can't help but snort at his comment. mostly because, for whatever reason, he’s taking this dispute very seriously. so seriously that he doesn't seem to notice you're trying to do anything to finally get to bedtime. "baby i was just sa—"

"who says this dragon had to breathe fire anyways?" he interrupts.

when your toddler goes to respond, it hits you. "what about fluffy fireball?" you mention. it's a perfect combination of the two. well, okay, maybe not a “perfect” combination, but it's good enough to finish this debate.

if you weren't so tired, you’d stop and ogle the way they ask "huh?" in sync.

you shrug, "well, why not? he is pretty fluffy and spits out fire. there can’t be a better name than that."

your daughter holds out the dragon, looks at it for a while, then brings it up to her ear.

she gives the impression that he’s nodding his head before hushedly saying, "got it." she then turns back to face you and yells confidently, "fluffy fireball agrees!”

"well, i don't agree," satoru huffs. "the name is way too long an—"

“satoru.”

“but—“

"satoru," you say more firmly, and his shoulders sink as he mumbles "okay" beneath his breath.

your daughter lets out a yawn, and your eyes are immediately drawn to her. you signal for satoru to come over to the bed, and he does, bending down to your level.

“is my girl sleepy?”

"um," she pauses and looks at her dragon. "just a little bit."

"i can tell," you say, gently rubbing her back. you sneak a quick glance at your husband, and he looks the other way because he knows it's way past her bedtime. you sit up next to her ear and murmur, "i think fluffy fireball is ready to go to sleepy-time."

she gives the dinosaur a look before asking him, "y’wanna sleep with me?” then, she shakes the dinosaur's head up and down before exclaiming, "okay!"

you watch as she leaps out of satoru’s arms, and plops down on the bed. the room fills with giggles and the creaking of the bed as she scampers towards the middle. once she's next to you, she settles in and gets comfortable.

you can't help but smile as you see her tiny hands reaching out, playfully fluffing the pillows around her. then finally, with a satisfied sigh, she snuggles under the covers, cocooning herself in warmth.

she sets her dragon on her left side, making sure her loyal companion is there to do his job and look after her (the princess). it’s cute really. however, if that dragon becomes even a little bit too comfortable with the job, you know satoru will undoubtedly compete for the position. he'd say, "it can't just show up one day and take my job," or something along those lines. knowing him, he might even contemplate throwing it away—who knows.

you’re jolted out of your trance when your daughter asserts to her dinosaur, "you can sleep on daddies side, he snores."

satoru gasps, “i do not—“

“yes you do!”

“when have i eve—“

"guys," you sigh, feeling the weight of exhaustion in your voice. you cast a glance at both of them, making sure you have their undivided attention before pressing on. "c'mon, let's all take a breather and save the debate about your dad's snoring for tomorrow, okay?"

"but mommy, tell him he snores!" she whines. "he goes—" she cuts herself off to mimic satoru's snoring, and his face is priceless.

"now that’s just rude. how can you speak to me so coldly?” satoru scurries underneath the covers on the side of the dragon. and just like that, your daughter and her dragon are nestled between the two of you.

“this’ll be settled in a family meeting tomorrow. you two have already had one debate today. so right now? lets all go to bed.” you declare, then nestle deeper beneath the covers, closing your eyes.

as the voices of saddened "okays" and "alrights" blend together, a collective sigh fills the room. the sound of a click follows, and even with your eyes closed, the absence of light is unmistakable. it makes you feel even more exhausted than before.

you feel satoru’s arm slide around your shoulder, pulling you closer to him. meanwhile, your daughter stirs slightly, searching for a more comfortable position in the cozy space between the two of you. you can feel her movements, her small body nestled snugly against yours.

you snuggle impossibly closer to your pillow, and take a deep breath.

silence, that’s what follows—and it’s nothing but peaceful. that is, until satoru bursts out laughing. "i don't snore," he blurts out into the darkness, his voice filled with mischief. "i just provide a little background music for the night."

it's at this point that you decide to be extremely biased at the family meeting tomorrow. he’s not winning a damn thing.

And it finally clicked as a small gasp wisped past his lips. He wasn't wrong.

In which, Plagg falls ill, and with Fu gone and Ladybug being the guardian now, has to go find her civilian self-even with the knowledge that she might not like that-is shocked to realize that even with having the kwami that was supposed to embodied the very being of bad luck, Adrien could conclude the very opposite of what he had thought for so long.

He was so very lucky.

so when I frist played fire emblem and saw rhea I was like “wow!! A great morally gray character this is literally what everyone say they want out of a narrative I love her” and I was fully shocked to see how many people hated her and hated her on (low key) because of things that weren’t real in cannon why do you think that is?

well there’s a lot of reasons and it’s hard to pin down since it’s not a one size fits all option but here’s some i can think of at the top of my head

lack of supports obscures character

lore being hidden in the game with the unreliable narrators being in main cutscenes

general distrust of religion

church = catholic apparently since no other religions exist especially in japan 😒

dragon = bad guy (despite that not being a fe staple there plenty of good ones)

headcanon being treated as canon to the point people forget it’s fandom origins (rhea is homophobic)

self insertion. well rhea yelled at me and that makes me mad so therefor she’s in the wrong and my actions have nothing to do w it

complicated relationship with the player who forgets that byleth is not sothis

bad eng voice directing in important scenes

well she’s cRaZY and everything CraZY people do is crAzY and bad

forgets all context of actions so it’s easy to spin her as the bad guy

people just making shit up (literally got into an argument the other day where i had to tell someone that no rhea didn’t make an army of dead bodies and stuff all the crests into them to revive her family she only did that with sothis. and even then she made the body and didn’t desecrate a corpse)

well edelgard said she was bad and edelgard would never lie to me and is 100% right about everything

if rhea is good then that means edelgard isn’t and that’s impossible

downplaying the objectively positive influence she has over other characters and spins it to a negative (rhea and cyril aren’t loyal to her bc she saved them it’s bc they’re brainwashed and rhea doesn’t actually care about them she just wants pawns)

straight up taken from half the game and when she’s finally allowed a break from npc jail she has like two lines then dies

is this everything? no but it’s 3am and my brain is broken and my app glitched and turned off and made me lose my original answer.

it’s a damn shame though since rhea’s story is so interesting. seeing how she did her best to navigate a world that was out for her race all while keeping her family and humans safe with what she was given is really neat. is she perfect? nah. she was dealt a really shitty hand in life but she made it work for the most part even if there was some fuck ups along the way (byleth situation which she thankfully acknowledges and apologizes for). girl straight up owes humanity nothing but goes out of her way to help guide and protect them

• this mf has the worst fashion taste in the world but he’s cannonically beautiful as fuck so he gets away with it

• his mom is pretty famous so she’s busy a lot which is why he’s a year rounder but she always takes him on trips for holidays or visists when she’s in the area bc she really wants to be there for him

• unfortunately tho that means Will rarely gets to go Home home like he hasn’t been to his hometown in a long time and he really misses it :(

• he still loves his mom to death tho!! he know’s she’s trying and thats what matters most to him

• he loves old movies SO MUCH star wars and other sci fi stuff is his favorite but he’s also a huge fan of horror movies

• during the battle of manhattan he healed demigods that fought for kronos too even though they were enemies bc he couldn’t just leave them wounded and that was a big reason so many of them decided to join camp after the war

• Will had a crush on nico the second he crashed the Battle of Manhattan and was lowkey planning on asking him out pretty soon after blood of olympus but then realized nico needed a friend before anything else so he scratched that plan

• but it worked out over time so !!! win for will boyfriend achievement unlocked

• OH OH OH yk those glow in the dark space stickers? yeah he put those on the bottom part of the top bunk of nico’s bed in cabin 13 so if he wakes up at night its not completely dark and its spacey so he thinks of Will

Bröthers, Lew is the elder and more chaotic and disappointment to the parents while Borys is the more respectable one

Lew when he was five and Borys was born, upon seeing his newborn brother, he just said, “ew”

Borys will forever be salty about Lew getting promoted to captain when he had worked much harder and generally be more reliable. But he’d also die for Lew if he had to. 

Lew likes to tease Borys and calls him a baby all the time. He’s not as miffed about Borys as he is about Lew and would not hesitate to die for him either.

 4. What will their relationship be like in the future?

Borys finally gets his rank of knight captain while lew is... promoted... to spy master. But they both agree this is more Lew’s alley anyway so Borys is not as salty as he used to be. Lew is also and uncle now so that’s neat. They keep close contact and are now little more close than they used to be (not that they weren’t close before, just more now)

 5. What traits does each person find endearing in the other?

Lew can respect Borys being dutiful and kind and smart, he feels like he fucked up his teen/early adult years so bad but at least their parents can be proud of one (1) son.

Borys find Lew’s antics increasingly amusing and he’s always fun to be around.How he’s always up for shenanigans and how fiercely protective he is

While Lew’s shenanigans are amusing, most of the results are.. not. Lew is very short sighted and bit of a loose cannon when it comes to life choices. Also, not that great taste in partners

Lew would like Borys to lighten up a little, stop being so high and mighty goody-two-shoes, dont you just want to go apeshit

 7. How often do they see each other? How often do they talk to each other?

In Lew’s early 20′s they didnt see each other at all with Lew being in some gang. When Borys joined the military in his 20′s Lew finally showed up with one fith of his fingers missing and hanged around in Glasford. They later relocated to the eastern outpost where they shared their duties and got up to some sibling shenanigans. 

 8. Could they live together easily? Why/why not?

They pretty much lived in the same barracks all the way up to Lew’s career change when he returned to Glasford. It went pretty well, and all their fellow soldiers knew about the brothers, just keep their sleeping quarters separate bc Lew would keep Borys awake all night

 9. How much physical contact would these characters have with each other? 

Hugs, fist bumps, chest bumps, flying nut high fives, you know, bro stuff

10. What would they get for each other as birthday gifts?

Borys gives Lew two stick and says he found his fingers. Otherwise they just get each other some beer, no need to be fancy or creative

Serena’s main god is Leeo, the god of wisdom and magic, for obvious reasons, but Konow leans more to Devia, but they’re n the same pantheon so it really doesn’t matter, Leeo is bit of a niche god anyway and in Thani the main gods are Devia and Frara

 14. Who is the better cook? Who is better at general household tasks?

Konow because he makes his own food more often than not, Serena, is a rich kid with servants in the manor, she’s not helpless but just not used to doing household stuff

 15. Which of them is more adventurous? Is the other adventurous enough to go along with them? 

Serena for sure, it was her idea to run away go study to Asaya. Know would’ve been fine with staying in Thani but Serena asked so nicely

16. Would they go on holiday together, and where would they go? 

Their entire two years in Asaya was one big holiday, they also ventured more south to Esweck

17. When one is feeling down, how does the other respond? 

Konow offers a listening ear and a holding hand. Serena if she notices Konow is feeling down she’ll make an excuse to leave the manor ground with him to be just to two of them or order everyone out of her room to have only Konow there so he can openly tell what’s going on

18. If one was in a difficult life situation, what would the other do for them?

Their entire dynamic is one difficult life situation. First they stayed hidden, Serena taking blame if they would be caught so nothing would happen to Konow, then they ran away, Konow keeping Serena safe in strange lands. They both look out for each other

 19. Has one ever had to stop the other from making a very foolish decision? And did the other listen to them?

It’s usually Serena who is about to do something that Konow has to stop. She listen to his reasons. But the most foolish of the decisions they made Together, at the same time, without consulting each other

Serena, convincing Konow to leave with her. He of course went through with it and it easily was the best decision in his life (the crashing of a wedding is only the second best bc boy howdy was he embarrassed)

They both would be rooting for the other, Reno seeing the kind of messy divorce of Zoe and Zoe comforting Reno when he widowed. They wish the best for the other, and think the other deserves all the happiness

The entire bounty hunter office of citadel is their family at this point, Reno might be familiar with Zoe’s son and Zoe is rather close with Reno’s kids and grandkid too

Zoe gets along, she might a little intimidating at first but she gives no reason for any friends or family to be afraid of her. Zoe’s ex Knows of Reno and would greet him if they ever run into each other but they’re not close. Zoe’s son is little afraid of Reno (like he is of her mother too)

24. Do either of them get jealous over relationships the other one has with friends/family/romantic partners/other people?

Nah, they’re pretty chill, though Zoe is a little jealous how Reno is not divorced and she sometimes thinks why her marriage didn’t work (and then she goes to therapy)

They earn the same so no need to be jealous of money

26. If the pair of them had to look after a young child or pet, what would happen?

Reno would be the more competent one and Zoe... she tries, oh my god does she try but she’s pretty stubborn and if something small goes wrong she’ll have a Moment

They’ve both in the past jumped to danger to haul the other to safety, plenty of scars to prove those times. This day Zoe takes on all the complaints and responsibility from the police and the public so Reno can focus on their people and not worry about those things

Zoe would die for her son. Reno would do the same for his family too probably, both acknowledge the fact. (but i can’t think of a situation rn where they would have to make that choice)

Deep grief, they’ve been comrades since rookies, they’ve shared pretty much everything and no other friend would ever replace them

If Zoe is in big fights with police Reno would back her up, if she’s upset with something the justice system i feel like he would trust her reasoning. Same with Zoe to Reno, if he goes against the grain she’d be 100% on board. But no crimes, they’re bounty hunter after all (unless the law is unjust then yea)

If I were to die in the next 5-10mins what would I do?

I'm not talking about suicide. Pls no. Truthfully I could never take my own life. I'm talking about like getting shot and bleeding out or getting hit by a car. Something that is beyond my control basically.

In those last moments though, what would I do? Haha well you see I'd like to think I'd text my friends and tell them I love them and that I'm sorry for being a shitty person? Sounds like a plan amirite?

I however hate, and I mean haaaate being a burden/looking for attention. So after careful consideration and much much muuuuuuch thought. I've come to the conclusion that my best course of action would be to just die alone.

You see, I wouldn't want to call someone and for them to feel upset? I guess??? I wouldn't want to call someone and have them frantically running around trying to figure out what to do. Of course I would love to have someone by my side, to help settle my nerves, but if not. I'd want my last moments to be calm and as unburdened as possible. As much as I am scared of dying by myself, I think it's the right thing to do?

I think those are like 5 people I could potentially call. However I know my dad's probably the only one who wouldn't break down over the phone, so the other 4 don't count. (I'm giving myself too much credit)

By calling them though, I'm running the risk of them being like scarred forever bc of me. I wouldn't want that to be someones last memory of me. That would literally hurt someone. Again maybe I'm giving myself too much credit here, but whatever, it's my story not yours.

Could you imagine that? Getting a call at an odd hour. Maybe it's 2:28am and your phone rings, you roll over in bed to look at your phone and it's a number you don't recognize/someone you haven't talked to in a while. So you pick up and go "Hello???" Then you hear them. A slight whisper, just barely able to speak but trying to tell you how much you meant to them yada yada yada. Boooring.

Okay, now that's sad, but imagine they don't pick up. Imagine them looking at their phone and going "whatever" so they go back to bed. You're just lying there, unable to speak, the agony of dying alone is crushing your soul into pieces. Then you die, knowing that your last few moments on Earth were shared by no one.

Now it's the next day, whoever you called is just getting up, it's practically 2 o'clock in the afternoon now and they go to check their phone. They look at the number/person that called them and try to call back, but they get no answer. So they go onto social media before starting their day, and then they see it. A couple people posted on your Facebook page.

Posts like this keep coming in. They're confused to what's going on. It's takes them a while, but eventually they piece it together. They put their phone down and just sit there. They don't cry, they just sit there on the edge of their bed. Motionless for a couple minutes. Before they ultimately pick up their phone again and continue the cycle.

What upsets me about FB is that sure, I have a lot of friends on there, but how many of them do I actually hang out with/see? But all if not most of them are posting on my page. Trying to remember the good times and stuff like that.

I call bullshit.

I know, for a fact that there are maybe, 4 people? (aside from my relatives) That would actually have an arguable reason to be sad. Anyone else is just lying to themselves. Not one of them was gonna message me and ask me to coffee or for lunch if I was still there.

I'd like to imagine that in heaven (if I end up there lmao) the first thing you do is have a huuuuge feast at your favorite restaurant. (Dying is hard work) With anyone you want, regardless of whether or not they're dead. I mean it's heaven right? So you all catch up and talk about your new life and about all the good and all the dumb things you did in life. It's a fun time.

I guess the part that really ticks me off, is that at the end of the day, when you're up in heaven. The amount of people that you actually mean something too, could potentially all be sat down at a table in your favorite restaurant.

To me that's the craziest and scariest thought I could ever have.

You see when I was a kid I would run home from kindergarten and tell me dad all about my 69282627 friends and how we were all going to live in a giant tree house, with water balloon cannons, and a pizza room! There would be a basketball court a movie theater and we'd play video games all day. Machine gun turrets EVERYWHERE! (Don't make fun of me I was like 6 or whatever)

After listening to me drone on and on maybe a million-bazillion-kajillian times my dad sat me down and tried to explain the importance of friends. I was like "duuuuuh I have 7282628 best friends and we'd all DIE for each other." (Bc you know, when you're 6 you need all your friends to be RIDE OR DIE ones) he got up and gathered a hand full of change from his area and brought it over to me. (I think you see where I'm going with this) he gave me 5 pennies and I thought to myself "Wow, that's a lot of money" (I didn't think this bc I was 6, I thought that bc I was dumb. Just to be clear) We continued and he gave me another 5 cents so now I had ten. I could barely fit all the pennies in my tiny hands and my dad started to talk. He said something about me having a lot of pennies and I said "well duh dad, you gave them to me" he went on to explain the importance of good friends. Yada yada yada, you know the saying "I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies" and being six I was like "Naaaaah 100 is way more than 4!"

So I ran off and probably went off to eat some glue or something. As I got older I'm not gonna lie, I forgot pretty much everything my dad told me. Eventually I came to the conclusion though, ALL BY MYSELF, that it's about quality over quantity. (Unless we're talking about booze though. Than it's just whatever gets me drunko the fastest)

So yes, I guess I succeeded! Quality over quantity! Woot woot! I'm still pissed though

What I guess I'm actually pissed off about is that I never got the chance, rather I never tried to become closer with people that I wanted to. Mostly out of fear. Out of being rejected? I guess I'm not necessarily pissed that people would comment sad shit on my wall (again, maybe too much credit) but what I'm upset about is that I was never close enough to them. I just don't feel like I deserve it. I wish I had the courage to tell people how I feel and how hard I want them to think I'm cool and that I desperately want to be their friend, buuuut I don't.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, live your life. I know it sounds cliche, but at the end of the day. When you're dying. You're going by yourself. So live! Please for the love of God, just live. Tell that guy who brings you bread that he's kinda weird, but other than that, he's p cool. Tell that girl who beats you up that her left hook could use a little work. Just be you and try to surround yourself with so many people that when you go to heaven God has to get someone to bring in more tables! I don't care, just do what makes you happy.

You never know how much time you have left.

Yes, the West Coast road is quite a special road in a remote part of New Zealand’s South Island – they even have signs up telling you to fill up with gas as there is quite a distance between gas stations. Quite rare for a small country like ours! The land and geography actually reminds me of the Pacific Northwest road through Oregon and California which I assume you’re familiar with Rodney – the rugged coastline, harsh (but beautiful) sea conditions, and the occasional spotting of a seal or whale if you’re lucky!

 

I had a look at the weather forecast in Plymouth out of interest – MINUS 2 is your high today?!?! Goodness me, that is cold. (That translates to minus 19 Celsius in the way we measure temperature) – I cannot quite believe that after a day at the beach on New Zealand’s Kapiti Coast, just north of Wellington, where our high today was a very enjoyable 75 Fahrenheit.

 

I trust you’re keeping warm, and great to hear from you over the other side of the Pacific. If you keep listening, at about 0250 NZDT in about 10 minutes I’ll pass on my best regards to you both on air and share your note with our listeners.

A very beautiful city!  I'm glad you had the chance to experience what we call "The Pacific Northwest". It really is a wonderful area. My reading about your trip makes me think you might have seen more of the country than I have! For Instance, I have never managed to make it down to New Orleans. I'm afraid we just moved to this area myself and between work and kids were just starting to explore Minnesota when the Pandemic hit. We have been meaning to make it up north to Duluth and what they call the "North Shore", we've heard a lot of good things about it, so you might try there. Also, if you enjoyed Yosemite (I have gone backpacking there a couple of times during my time living in San Francisco California from 2000 to 2015), You might also Try Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming (and also the Grand Tetons, if you find the time) and Glacier National Park in Montana. Both of these Parks are along the Rocky Mountain range featuring the continental divide (one side all rivers flow to the Pacific, the other side the Atlantic!).

I hope all is well in Minnesota – I have a real love of the United States, which culminated from a six-week road trip a friend and I did in a hired 25-foot long RV in the summer of 2016 – starting off in California, and going up and down the country across many states, and finishing up in Chicago (which would be the closest I’ve been to Minnesota) – before flying to Washington DC then catching the train up to finish in New York. It was a magical trip and everywhere was just brilliant. My highlights were the pristine Yosemite National Park in California and the vibrant live music scene of New Orleans. I managed to see a lot of Washington State and Oregon too when I lived in Vancouver Canada for two years between 2018 and 2019.  Once this nasty pandemic dies down, exploring more of the US is top of my list again – I’ll happily take any recommendations of “must-see” places around the Midwest or Great Lakes area!!

S3 E11: Folie À Deux.

Episode description: Dr. Rhodes and Dr. Bekker try to save a misdiagnosed patient while Dr. Choi is on a mission to figure out what happened during a stabbing at his apartment complex.

I remember this episode being a really good one for the psych team (subsequently Sarah, we don’t care about charles). And based off the description, i’m pretty sure this is the one with ethan and april running around in minimal clothes having a nerf gun fight. fun idea. oh, also, ava mention in the description, so it should be good.

Let’s get into it.

- i remember this one, the two neighbors are having a shared delusion or something

- i did not realize this was the episode they introduce sarah’s dad

- COME ON MAN

- i screamed out loud.

- I’ve actually completely forgotten the storyline

- the fact that ava and connor seemingly work on sarah’s father (and sarah and ava interact once? CRIMINAL)

- let’s keep going

- the fact that the guy is charming and already joshing around with the boys. good writing

- ava needs to protect sarah

- this guy. already trying to gain sympathy from charles. please sir no.

- what was the point of having sarah go through two really big story arcs in one season

- sarah’s shirt in this episode is the one with hexagon patterns all over it. i loved that shirt

- charles feeling guilty later in the season for subtly pushing sarah towards getting closer with her father. good broad strokes writing

- noah sending up his patient to the cath lab - cut to: ava and connor in the OR, ava saying: “meet mr. murphy. some genius in the E.D. sent him to the cath lab with a STEMI” (his heart is blue so big yikes)

- and I am so here for ava calling noah out on his shit. a main part of my rewritten cannon

- what is hands down my favorite thing about med? the one thing they do 100% correct? The way they transition from story to story. at least that aspect of their storyline is clean

- is this the one with the floppy baby

- VERY INTERESTING - how in the episode with ava calling noah out, is also when noah is back at it again, chatting with reese

- also, sarah already knowing what noah is gonna say about the patient - SHE’S SO SMART

-sarah literally not giving noah anythingggg. cutting him off and not letting him finish his little story. leaving the room when she just feels like it. we love

- *noah walks into the viewing gallery*

ava: “Your patient, Doctor?”

noah: “uh, yeah.”

ava: “Brilliant.”

- why does this line up so well tho, with that one thing i wrote for S3 E2, ava saving sarah from noah’s chatter and shutting him up

- the surgery faces a complication and ava makes a tough call that will sacrifice some of the other organs, making connor get mad at her, accusing her of inviting him just so they’ll both fail (ava being mad at noah bc this was his fault? or, alternatively noah being fucking terrified of ava after this, but then ava is just... chill. --- this is a good Idea, I’ll sit on it more,)

- when connor tells noah that the patient is doing fine and says “no thanks to you.” (yeah, she’s cutting, but the patient nearly dies)

- noah walking around ava to get to connor (and ava rolling her eyes at him)

- ava eyeing connor reassuring noah it’s bc he’s flirting with sarah because connor is coddling him

- ava smiling when connor says that he’s still learning to get past his assumptions

- yes okay, yes, i see it. she’s smiling bc she thinks he’s talking about her. what does this mean? not anything explicitly romantic. look at me and tell me that ava isn’t someone who is finally happy that someone is willing to see past her cold blunt exterior. how much more satisfying is that, vs. ‘oh wow! the popular boy likes me!’. it is surely much more endearing (that being said the fact that she does smile [in the canon of the show] like the shy little school girl annoys me so fucking much)

- and ava rolling her eyes at noah walking around her? just another person who sees her as just cold and heartless. it’s annoying that it happens so often.

- jay remarking that charles ‘sure knows how to bring the best out of people’ when he gets a women to threaten him, and charles says ‘it’s a gift’ - thinking about how he sure brings out the ‘best’ of reese and her father...

- charles using this episode to diagnose a psychopath. in the same episode reese’s father shows up. the med writers really used all their brain cells on this one

- med really is like ‘don’t worry guys. natalie manning on our show gave a speech on how anti vaxxers suck. we’ve done our job. society is cured’

- we don’t talk enough about how soft monique is

- the way ava sits on the bed in the doctors lounge is GAY. THAT IS A HOMOSEXUAL. MA’AM. WHO ARE YOU FOOLING. the fact that connor is just there, sitting at the table, sipping tea, using a moleskin notebook as a coaster is fucking hilarious. the energy in the room (distinctly homosexual).

- they really would have been unstoppable if the show had just kept them bros

- and then the moment connor opens his mouth he turns the convo distinctly straight again. how fucking disappointing

- literally the energy in the room before vs. after they start talking is polarizing. and they have to go and make it the straightest scene. jesus just fuck off

- let’s continue

- look he’s finally able to play into her jokes

- also ew jimmy fallon - reason #100 connor rhodes sucks

- this is also the first mention of the conjoined twins case (makes sense since this seems to be about the half season mark and we’re seeing a bunch of B season plots introduced, what with sarah’s dad and all)

- start of heightened competition which the show uses for exhausting sexual tension god help me

- CONNOR YOU ARE STANDING TOO CLOSE, GET AWAY FROM THIS WOMAN

- there’s like a three second span where they’re standing inches apart and just staring at each other and mentally im going ‘nononononnonnono’

- GOD DAMMIT

- so yeah they kiss. (right after connor says he needs to pace himself but whatever)

- why is it so aggressive

So. What am I supposed to do here? I’m rewriting this right? What am i supposed to do with the rest of the season. I suppose that’s what I’m supposed to find with this rewatch. my job just got a whole lot harder.

If I were to make Ava a psychopath, I would do it here, so that she was just playing with him. I’m not going to do that though, because she deserves a tad better.

What I’m thinking now, Ava is having some sort of existential crisis, due to being in this new place and having only one (1) semi-strong connection after living here for six months. so she latches onto connor, thinks that she needs him, panics that she isn’t anybody without him (can you see the themes I’m going with?)

or, this is just some meaningless fling, which is also a novel idea, but from the evidence we’ve gathered, ava is much too caring a person to do that (at least I believe).

regardless, we did a lot of good work today, pointing out ava harassing noah (like i thought would happen lmao). definitely not my fav episode, or the best episode. but in terms of the rewrite, there’s a lot we can work with here

what makes me happy about them: That we got to see a friendship come about in canon.

how I feel about this character: A character heavily misunderstood and ruined by fanon imo. Layered and complex and honestly in real need of a hug. Lemme at ‘im.

all the people I ship romantically with this character: Rin, Gou, sometimes Sousuke and Haru, very few instances I’ll ship him with the others.

my non-romantic OTP for this character: MakoHaru. Damaged, wonderful friends.

my unpopular opinion about this character: Pls stop treating him like he is all-wise and a mother hen and Perfect™ he is literally a human teenage boy who is allowed to make mistakes and not be right, so let him do those things. He is flawed and still wonderful. 

one thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish they’d expanded on his realization that he was jealous of Rin. To this day I don’t know for sure what he meant by that (though I have my suspicions) and I would have loved to see some growth behind that. We got to see him expose a part of himself he clearly doesn’t like all that much, and that could have been great for him and his own journey.

the last jedi review - SPOILERS

so i went to the midnight premiere of The Last Jedi last night, and i need to get out all of my emotions and thoughts about the movie so i don’t spoil it for my family. This is going to be a spoiler heavy review, so if you haven’t seen the movie yet, don’t click ‘read more’. Alternatively, if you have seen the movie, or you like to know spoilers before seeing a movie, read right ahead...

So I’ll try to get out all of my gushing at the beginning: this was an AMAZING movie! I enjoyed it so much that it’s been less than 24 hours since I watched it and I’m already ready to watch it again! Before going in, I read a couple of non-spoiler reviews, all which mentioned that TLJ is completely different to any Star Wars movie we’ve had so far. Sure, there are call-backs to the original trilogy (R2 playing Leia’s ‘help me Obi Wan Kenobi) was particularly tear-jerking, but overall, this movie was very dark.

It picks up where TFA left off, with Rey arriving on Luke’s island, but what surprised me most of all wasn’t Luke’s reluctance to return to help the Resistance or train Rey, but that Rey is immediately called to the Dark Side. Her Force connection with Kylo was particularly uncomfortable, but both Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver’s performances were incredible. There was so much tension and discomfort between them, as Rey is unknowingly being pulled towards the dark side, and Kylo’s struggle with the Light inside him only gets worse after the murder of Han Solo in the previous movie. 

I found the choices made in developing Rey’s character in this movie interesting, but I can’t say I 100% enjoyed them. While it’s interesting because we never expected such a strong-willed and kind character to be ambiguous in the world in which we’ve been taught for the last 40 years that the dark side of the Force is evil and the light side good. Luke mentions that she’s doesn’t ‘even try to fight it’ when the Darkness on the island calls to her, and I couldn’t agree more. That’s not to say she’s not an incredible Force user, she manages to resist the terrifying Supreme Leader Snoke in a way that we haven’t seen anyone else manage, and her skill with a lightsaber is undeniable. On that note, the fight in which Rey and Kylo team up to fight Snoke’s Imperial Guard is incredible, the cinematography, the music, the choreography. Of the entire 2 and a half hour long movie, that scene is the one I can’t stop thinking about. I’d definitely call it the best lightsaber fight in the whole Saga so far! For me, Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver carried the film, and John Boyega made the Resistance portions of the film bearable.

Supreme Leader Snoke is terrifying, and I was genuinely concerned that Disney were gong to kill off their main hero when she was being tortured, but I can’t help but feel that the reputation that has been built up between this movie and TFA is kind of let down by the pretty pathetic way he gets taken down by Kylo. Snoke’s death wasn’t the only let down of the movie, the amount of ‘fake outs’ was unbelievable. So Leia can just fly through space now? What part of the Force was that?? And Finn came so close to sacrificing himself to take out the battering ram cannon that I almost walked out of the cinema. Rose saved him at the last minute, giving him a kiss that honestly left me more disappointed than happy, and then seemed to survive after she already appeared to die? I felt that part was very ambiguous. And after the build-up of Rey being with Luke and Finn carrying the beacon, I expected more from their final reunion. 

The casino scenes with Finn and Rose felt more like a Fantastic Beasts movie than a Star Wars one, and personally could’ve had that whole portion happen off screen and be fine with it. Phasma appears suddenly, after miraculously escaping the destruction of Star Killer base, to have one final, INCREDIBLE show down with Finn before dying immediately.  BB-8 was an absolute delight in every scene, although that’s hardly a surprise. 

And as for the Porgs, aka Disney’s new toy for Christmas, the movie would’ve been better off without them. They added nothing, and fell a lot closer to Jar Jar Binks that I think Rian Johnson intended. 

There is far far more that I could talk about, but I think I’ll wait until I’ve seen the movie once more before I add anything.

For all my complaining, I did genuinely enjoy TLJ very very much, and I can’t wait to watch it again (hopefully in the next couple of days)
