Are we going to talk about how often scenting arousal comes up in dark romance? Boy howdy it is pretty interesting that often the female lead will be actively rejecting the male interest or giving off a lot of “I’m not interested, no” signals but authors will use this trope to override/plot device their way out of what would otherwise be a non-con situation.

At best, it’s typically a “baby it’s cold outside” interpretation. The author doesn’t want the character to outright say, “please fuck me/I’m attracted to you”, because it likely goes against the characterization of them so far. A way for the romantic interest to just know he’s desired and he can pursue without the lead having to ~say~ it. (Edit: not a dark romance, but Diana and Matthew from A Discovery of Witches comes to mind as an example of this. She spends the first few chapters feeling distrust, wariness, and revulsion towards him. After he earns her trust, there is a scene where he can smell that she’s attracted to him. It’s not a very sexual scene since it’s a closed door romance, but I think it still fits. A “go ahead” without Diana really having to say it.)

At worst, it’s the nessian bonus chapter. I don’t think I have to elaborate here, but if a person has thus far behaved in a way that is communicating they aren’t interested in you so you use your size to intimidate them, getting as close as possible and cornering them against a fire, and question them on their sexual history, you are displaying predator behavior.

Everyone who has a pussy knows that randomly getting wet is as common as random boners.
