After a surprisingly enjoyable breakfast, the tension between Jack and Zerelda seemed to had softened. Hellen told Zerelda the story of how Hellen escaped McGriffin during the Blizzard of ‘88, meeting Jack, and wanting to lay low to trow the templars off their tracks.
Now Zerelda was aware of the templars, but only in the assumption of them being a rival gang that had taunted the Patterson family for years. This being the case of when Jeremiah rescued Clara from a group of rouge confederates invading her property during the border wars. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss. Zerelda eyed the man with such intensity. She had seen her fair share of suffering among this family, even found herself wishing that Jeremiah could be alive today to see the kind of man his daughter is obviously been making love to for quite sometime. Regardless, Zerelda could see that Hellen was incredibly happy in the small gestures she made upon Jack’s hand as she rubbed his finger with her thumb and rubbing a leg upon his. Jack would respond in kind by gently squeezing her hand.
“So Hellen, I assumed that you’re planning to settle in this old shell now?” Zerelda asked, sipping her coffee.
Hellen blinked in surprise. “Well...we never really thought of...settling down. We originally thought of this as a way to lay low.” Hellen couldn’t remember what she said the following, for her mind was swimming with the possibility of living here in Missouri. But would Jack want to live in the hard life of a rural state? Hellen saw that Jack was used to live in a simple life, if not a hard life.
