meet cute with kageyama when he comes to the little cafe you work at just outside of rome. you’d moved to italy to study and quickly landed a job at the quaint place– it was within walking distance to your accommodation and paid enough to get you by, so you couldn’t ask for more.
he walks in a few minutes after you’ve opened and in an instant you’re nervous because holy shit he’s beautiful. and you greet him with a ‘ciao!’ because your boss insists that being assertively friendly is how he’s managed to keep his regulars around for years.
‘ciao,’ he replies rather timidly, nearing the counter you’d just been wiping. he orders a cappuccino and a croissant (in italian– he even calls it a ‘cornetto’). the cafe isn’t in a tourist spot and it’s mostly visited by locals, and it makes you wonder if he’s in the same boat as you. so you ask him, both out of curiosity and the fact that you’re drawn to his pretty features.
he tells you that plays volleyball for a living, that he recently moved here from japan to play for an italian team, and for some reason, you’re astonished. you want to know everything about him. you’re sure you have hearts in your eyes as he speaks.
you ask what he thinks of the cappuccino you’ve made him and he tells you it’s the best coffee he’s had in italy so far, maybe in his life. after that he finds himself coming back every morning— and it’s not just for the coffee.

Japanese Prefectures: Kantō - Ibaraki
都道府県 (とどうふけん) - Prefectures of Japan
Learning the kanji and a little bit about each of Japan’s 47 prefectures!
Kanji・漢字

城 しろ、き、ジョウ castle
県 ケン prefecture
関東 かんとう Kanto, region consisting of Tokyo and surrounding prefectures

Amidst sprawling fields of beautiful flowers, Ibaraki also hosts Tsukuba Science City, Japan's premier research center and the home of Japan's space agency and numerous museums. Ibaraki is known historically for being the home of the Mito branch of the Tokugawa clan during the Edo Period and has long been associated with notable events in Japanese history. The first Nuclear Energy Research Institute was founded here in 1956. You can see space exhibits, actual space craft, and simulations at Tsukuba Space Center.
Outside of the major cities there are many natural areas to explore in the Suigo-Tsukuba Quasi-national Park. Hitachi Seaside Park is famous in the spring for its carpets of blooming blue nemophila. Kairaku-en is one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan. Mt. Tsukuba is a famous night view spot with a view of the Kanto Plain, including Tokyo Tower and the Tokyo Sky Tree, with a ropeway for convenient access. Ibaraki is also a major producer of natto.

Fukuroda Falls (Fukuroda no Taki) - 袋田の滝

One of the three most beautiful waterfalls in Japan, Fukuroda Falls is a 120-meter tall cascading waterfall in northwestern Ibaraki Prefecture in the remote hills of the town of Daigo. It is also on the registered list of the Top 100 Waterfalls of Japan (determined by the Ministry of Environment). These falls are also called the Yodo Falls (Yodo no Taki) because the water stream falls on four large rock faces. It is also said that the renowned monk Saigyo Hoshi greatly praised the falls by saying that you should view the different beauty of the falls in all four (yo) seasons.
They are particularly attractive in early November with the peak autumn foliage as well as peak water flow. There are several different views of the waterfall, and you cannot view it in its entirety all at the same time. Within the Fukuroda Waterfall complex there are neon tunnels and elevators to take you to different levels and viewing platforms. It is said that you will be successful in love if you find a heart in the waterfall. There are also numerous hot springs nearby.

Monkfish Hot Pot - あんこう鍋

The monkfish (also referred to as angler fish, goosefish, depending on the source I found) is a prized delicacy of Ibaraki and is best eaten fresh. Because these fish are too soft and slimy to cut up on a chopping board, they are prepared using the traditional tsurushi-giri technique, which involves cutting up the fish while suspended from a hook. In Japan, almost all parts of the monkfish are eaten, including fins, skin, gills, liver, stomach, ovaries and flesh—referred to as the “seven tools of the monkfish” in Japanese. The steamed liver is called ankimo and is considered a delicacy that may be eaten alone, or added to the hotpot soup for extra flavor. Anko nabe (monkfish hot pot) is a seasonal favorite consisting of monkfish, vegetables, and flavored broth.

Chasing Early Bloom: Kawazu-Zakura Festival 2024
Location: Kawazu River, Kawazu, Shizuoka, Japan Timestamps: 08:18, 08:20, and 08:40 on February 14, 2024
Pentax K-1 II + DFA 28-105mm F3.5-5.6 + CP ① 68 mm ISO 100 for 1/100 sec. at ƒ/10 ② 28 mm ISO 100 for 1/160 sec. at ƒ/9.0 ③ 31 mm ISO 100 for 1/200 sec. at ƒ/7.1
My first visit to the Kawazu-Zakura Cherry Blossom Festival was on March 2, 2022, two days after the festival had officially ended. This year, I timed my visit to the festival to coincide with a photo shoot at Imaihama Beach, which is just a 10-minute from the Kawazu River where the cherry trees are situated.
While the annual cherry blossom festival officially extends until February 29th, locals I spoke with anticipated tourists continuing to visit as late as the first week of March.
Here are three of my favorite shots along the Kawazu River:
① The first shot was taken on the eastern end of Kinomiya Bridge (来宮橋), crossing Kawazu River, about an 18-minute walk from Kawazu Station. Looking north, a glimpse of the vermilion-colored Hosen Bridge (豊泉橋) adds to the scenic view.
② The second shot was taken a few meters north of Kinomiya Bridge on the eastern riverbank. This spot provided ample foliage and shadows to almost hide the buildings and man-made structures behind the cherry trees, creating a nice contrast with the dark Kawazu-zakura pinks against the evergreen hills in the background.
③ The third shot was captured from the middle of the riverbed, right across from the tourist information booth on the northern riverbank, a 26-minute walk from Kawazu Station.
For those planning to visit the festival by train, I have included a link to Donny Kimball’s “Come to Kawazu | Enjoy Japan’s Cherry Blossoms in February” blog post, where he recommends the best way to reach the festival by train.
If, like me, you travel with a border collie, driving is the only option. From central Tokyo, it's a 2-hour 30-minute to 3-hour drive (depending on traffic). Kawazu Town is only 185 km southwest of central Tokyo, so even if you avoid the expressways, you can still reach this destination in less than 4 hours if you leave early enough in the morning.
For photographers attending this festival, try to schedule your visit on a weekday early in the morning. With very few crowds, it becomes easy to set up a tripod to bracket your shots, take long exposures of the river, or capture some panoramas.
If you have time, I'd recommend taking a leisurely drive home via Route 135, running the entire length of the eastern coastline of the Izu Peninsula. Roll down the windows, let the sea breeze enter the cabin, and be sure to stop at any of the numerous roadside rest stops that often offer spectacular views of the coastline.
I've gone into greater details on how to access the festival by car and have gathered with great info, downloadable PDF maps, and have Google Maps links to 3 of the larger parking lots. The write-up is less than a 3-minute read (https://www.pix4japan.com/blog/20240214-kawazu-zakura).

金 (kin) "Gold" or "Money"
Tumblr media
It's Golden Week in Japan!
So I wrote "Gold".
"Golden Week" (Sometimes abbreviated to "GW") is a week beginning 29th April, containing multiple public holidays in a row.
This year, the dates of the holidays are:
Saturday 29th April: Showa Day
Wednesday 3rd May: Constitution Memorial Day
Thursday 4th May: Greenery Day
Friday 5th May: Children’s Day
Many people take the Monday and Tuesday off too, to make a 7-day consecutive holiday. Sometimes it can be even longer (a few years back it was 10 days, to celebrate the new Emperor’s Coronation).
Golden Week is one of the most popular times for Japanese people to travel, both domestically and internationally.
Most tourist spots get packed, so it’s best to avoid travelling to Japan during this time.
Students of the Japanese language will notice that 金 appears in 金曜日 (きんようび)the Japanese word for "Friday". So Friday is literally "Gold Day" or "Money Day". My Japanese teacher told me that this is because Friday is often payday :)

Dp x dc writing prompt
no. [Banana|cherries|pineapple]
("dammit baldrick you forgot to write the numbers on again!")
I would 'love' to write this but I'm probably never going to have the time, if someone wants to please go ahead and use it, just tag me so I get to read it!
Snow-woman and the damphir?
Vlad and Danny are fighting again, the battle has crossed multiple land masses, they end up in a populated section of Japan where vlad gets the upper hand and pulls out a new invention: the 'maximus convertus' (classy right?) Danny stumbles into a few people trying to dodge but it hits... him and a young woman named cassandra cain!
The weapon is designed to powerswap the person firing and the target but its still a prototype and was meant for just the two people...
Danny's ice core powers get transferred to cassandra, vlads vampire(energy?) Core powers get transferred into danny, vlads obsession towards having Danny gets transferred into cassandra... vlad falls into a coma due to the loss of his core and the shock of being mortal again, danny collapses in the shock as his body shifts from strictly his hero form into something like vlads form (i just googled it, why is most damphir character art a combo of monk robes and a trenchcoat!-or 'bedroom wear'🤣) cassandra basically gets knocked out from the halfa core fusing into her soul and gets colder as her body decides how to develope...
Cassandra is in shock, she was in Japan doing some investigating for the Japan branch W.E. and was almost finished. today was her day off she had gone to a few tourist spots and learnt a little about Japanese culture and folk tales, one which caught her eye was the many stories about yuki-onna, the 'snow-women' after that she was travelling back to her hotel when she got caught up in a fight between supers, the boy with white hair was doing his best to stop harm coming to the civilians even at the expense to himself when the one with the red eyes and Cape pulled out a device that was wired up to him. She saw the boy try to get away from everyone but bounced off two civilians trying to get out of the way he bumped into her as the device fired.
*pain...cold...lonely...pain*
it felt like her body was freezing and unfreezing as she lay on the sidewalk unable to control her actions, the boy with the white hair now altering itself to be longer. She grunted in pain as her body froze and thawed and the boys eyes snapped open looking at her in concern. Another jolt of pain and he was scrabbling over to her to hold her hand "you're going to be all right, I will protect you" he murmured, his eyes seemed to have a hypnotic quality to them but his body language was genuine. The pain spiked again and her conciousness faded to the sound of ambulance sirens approaching. 'Why was her last conscious thoughts turning to the yuki-onna?...'
(Mizore is best snow-girl, will not be taking any Sass about it!)
Tumblr media
Also don't @ me about cassandra's heritage, Google's broke, vlads not exactly transalvanian and cass's mother's mixed.

You may have answered this already, but: How much familiarity with the local language would you suggest aiming for before committing to traveling somewhere? Obviously more would be better to have, but I've been holding off on committing on a longer trip to Japan myself because I wanted to pick up an actual working knowledge of Japanese first, and between graduate school and work I just haven't had much time.
Specifically about Japan, if you’re going to big touristic areas like Tokyo, Kyoto, or Osaka, you can get by with very limited vocabulary, but of course, knowing more is better. Clerks and shopkeepers are very helpful and will do their best to accommodate. If your grasp of the language is clearly lacking, people take it pretty easy on you, speak slower and more clearly, etc. If you want to go to the countryside, though… Yeah, you gotta know.
Of equal importance to the language are your manners, tbh. In my experience, Japanese people let you get away with a lot in terms of communication and small faux passes if you show understanding of social rules and a good faith to adhering to them and learning them: Don’t be loud or take phone calls in the train, use a neutral scent deodorant, let some people pass before you go through a congested area (so eventually everyone can move), don’t litter, and many more. Be polite, be kind, be considerate, and you get a pass for pretty much anything you didn’t mean to do. My Shibuya friend said that I have a “platinum gaijin pass” because even though my language is lacking, my cultural game is spot on, hence why everyone took it so easy on me, lmao.

| ROUNDTRIP
《 kuroo tetsuro × gn! reader
《 trip to tokyo and running into kuroo on day 1
-----------------------------------------------------
The low rumbling of the bus and the murmur from the rest of the passengers woke you up from your slumber. You rubbed your eyes while looking outside the window, completely in awe of the scenery.
'Is that the Skytree?! It's huge!'
'Wow!'
'Look over there!'
The people next to you were full of curiosity as they leaned against the windows as much as they could. You conversed with your classmates around you until the tour guide's voice was heard from the speakers, announcing that you'll be arriving at the hotel in five minutes.
You were visiting Tokyo with your class for the weekend. It wasn't a scheduled school trip, it was a trip initiated by your teacher who wanted to do something nice for the class. She figured it would be best to go during the prolonged weekend, and everyone was ecstatic to spend the three days in the capital of Japan.
The agency you were traveling with accommodated you and your class with a four star hotel, close to the city center and right next to the sports arena. The plan for today was to get settled in your rooms and then go out later the same evening. Almost everyone spent the day in their rooms, napping or unpacking their things before heading down to the reception to meet the rest of the group.
The lights shined above all of you as you headed towards the center and admired the beautiful city while doing so. Everyone was taking pictures and talking, a few were trying to navigate the google map to find a place to go.
In the end it worked out, the lot of you heading back to the hotel after a meal. You were admiring the city and it's architecture, the people, the streets, everything. You disregarded your friends' voices in the background, traveling to your own world until you were pulled out of it.
'Who's up for some ramen? My treat ~'
A group of guys not too far from you cheered in unison, deciding on what type of ramen they should get. Subconsciously, you turned your head towards the noise, spotting the familiar flashes of red.
You told your teacher you're just going to say hi to some of your friends, and that they don't have to wait up for you. Quickening your pace with a fond smile, you approached the group from the back.
'Boo!'
The boys shrieked and turned around to face you, making you laugh loudly.
'That was rude!'
'Yeah I got so scared!'
'Well well well ~ Who do we have here'
Kuroo stepped in front of you, with a smirk that mirrored your smile.
'Hello Mr. scheming captain ~'
He pulled you in for a hug, making your heart rate pick up when he pressed you against his chest.
'What brings you to the city chibi-chan?'
'I would say you but that's corny so I'll just go with school trip'
You grinned, satisfied with the fact that you managed a sentence in front of him after that stunt he pulled.
'Could've just said that'
Not sure why he grumbled under his breath, you brushed it off and addressed the rest of the team.
'What are you guys doing out here so late?'
'We just finished the qualifiers for Nationals'
Yaku stated proudly and pointed to the arena behind him.
'Really?! Did you win?!'
'Tch. Of course we won. I am the captain after all ~'
You flicked Kuroo's forehead as a reminder not to be smug, especially when he was buying dinner.
'Ow!'
Now it was your turn to be grin at him when he pouted, but that same pout was surely testing you.
He didn't waste a second after, regaining his composure and inviting you to dinner with them. Unfortunately, you had to decline, telling the story of how you and your friends just ate after barely managing to find a decent restaurant.
Kuroo couldn't contain his laughter, making you deadpan at him and causing Kai to scold him as well.
'Tourists'
He barely dodged your hit, now laughing even more. You huffed at his antics, pretending to walk away and saying goodbye to the rest of the team. However, Kuroo's hand on your wrist stopped you immediately, your eyes darting to his in confusion.
'How long are you staying?'
'We leave on Sunday afternoon'
His thumb gently rubbed circles over your skin making your breath hitch after your response. You were starting to get dizzy from him alone. He always had this effect on you and you never knew how to deal with it. Yet, there was a small part of you hoping he felt the same way.
'Is there a chance I could maybe...get to see you? Just the two of us?'
Your heart was beating dangerously fast at this point. Kuroo wanted to see you? Alone? Like a date? Did he really say that? In front of his whole team?
'I- uh- um- well we- we have some free time during the day so maybe then? If my teacher's okay with it. Wait but what about your practice? I don't want to intrude on your plans or anything or-'
'Hey hey. We have the weekend off since we just qualified. And no you're not intruding. I'll text you okay?'
He smiled, that blinding smile of his, before pressing his lips to your knuckle and leaving you in a bashful state in the middle of Tokyo.

Ahhh I'm so happy!! I'm the anon who asked about Rikiya content! Thank you so much! 😊
I'd like to request a fluffy Rikiya with an s/o who takes him on dates showing him around Tokyo/other places he hasn't seen. I loved the part in Y3 where we take Rikiya to see Kamurocho! It was so cute seeing him come out of Don Quixote with so many gifts for the kids!! 🥺 He's a national treasure.
RIKIYA'S FIRST POST lessssgooooo. Happy to show some love for our sweet Y3 baby boy. Headcanons below da cut, have a good weekend sweet anon!
It goes without saying Rikiya is a bit of a puppy dog in personality. He loves exploring new places and is always chomping at the bit to take in as much as he can. Traveling dates are the best for him, especially since the train system in Japan makes it relatively easy to make a weekend into a date/vacation.
Rikiya actually does do some research before going somewhere, but it's not just tourist places. It's things he specifically heard a lot about or is particularly interested in. With a romantic partner, he will likely curate the list of activities to include your shared interests. He also has a wishlist of places he wants to travel to with you in the future.
Rikiya has a personal interest in seeing places like temples or visiting ryokans. He really enjoys taking in the prisitine beauty and architecture of temples and relaxing in hot springs, although it is in direct contrast with his bubbling and chaotic behavior in cities. He can honestly go anywhere and adjust to the vibes.
He really wants to go to some famous festivals around Japan with you. Rikiya wants to dress up, eat all the foods, participate in every custom, the whole shebang.
Despite his interest in seeing and trying new things on his own, it's honestly amazing how impressed he is every single time you show him something new. It doesn't matter if it's a restaurant in Tokyo that he's never heard of or some new fangled fashion in a store window, he's surprised Pikachu face all the way every time.
Rikiya is a very eager person and will likely be the one dragging YOU around to places but secretly he loves when you do that to him. When Rikiya is in a relationship, he falls hard and fast so he's more than happy to just be guided around Tokyo blindly by you, just lost in the dazzling lights and your prescence.
When you take him to restaurants in Tokyo, he reads every item on the menu before even trying to decide what he wants. Always asks what you'd recommend. He's the same way in bars too although he doesn't drink much since he's more of a lightweight.
If you want to see that adorable face of his just totally in awe, take him to a spot only locals know about that shows great views of the city. It's adorable how much he loves seeing the scenery.
Keep him out of souvenir shops. It's for his own good. He will buy one of everything. He might pout though so maybe just get like some matching bracelets or something small.
Last but not least, dessert! He goes full puppy dog mode with sweets so if you take him to any kind of sweet shop or cafe, he'll get all giddy and say something like "Really?! Ah, thank you, I love this." and give you a big hug.

56 and any Yamo pairing! 🫶
i just wheezed so hard when i saw what the song was i almost snorted coffee out of my nose i am so sorry for this one
#56 - kyoto phoebe bridgers + yamo
the story of how this song ended up on my wrapped is too long so it’s going in the tags but. let me set the scene for you.
2026 NHL GLOBAL SERIES™️ JAPAN - Presented by YPPI
November 13 & 14, 2026: Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens, Seattle Kraken, Vancouver Canucks
Saitama Super Arena, Saitama, Japan
It’s a pitiful excuse of a consolation prize for not being able to go to the Olympics, but Kailers not going to look a vacation horse in the mouth. The arena’s cool. It’s huge. The people are cool. There’s so many more of them than he thought there’d be with jerseys that have his name on the back, and a lot more that have the familiar orange and blue. He takes a picture of the fifth Oilers Yamamoto jersey he signs—this one’s the good Reverse Retro—and texts it to Connor, says,
no one here has even heard of mcjesus
and gets a moon face emoji in response. Leon’s influence. Kailer’s still never really deciphered what that one means, and he doesn’t think Connor knows either.
They don’t have a lot of time off between games, but Kailer’s trying to be a good tourist. His dad had been so happy when Kailer had told him about the series that Kailer’d had to stop him from trying to book a flight a year in advance, and his mom’s been just as bad, sending him every article she sees about Best New Spot in Tokyo! Cool Restaurant! Have You Seen This Japanese Cat Café? that she scrolls across on Facebook since June. Suzy’s in the same boat, so they’ve been crossing off their compiled travel-guide list together, looping in as many guys as they can. Everyone’s been pretty game. All the teams are crammed into close quarters at the same hotel, which means everyone wants to spend as much time as possible outside of it, and it helps that Kailer’s gotten pretty close with all the other guys that the NHL picked up as Global Series figureheads. Robo’s memes? Absolutely fire. The groupchat loves them.
For every item he crosses off the list, Kailer takes a picture and keeps it tucked in his phone notes. It’s like speed-running a scavenger hunt—they’re only here for four days—but he’s doing a pretty good job. His favorite so far has been all the gardens. They’re stunning, trees shining bright red and yellow, and every vendor has been selling maple candies, maple cakes, and even fried maple, though the official maple festival doesn’t start until next week. The second garden he visits, he does it on his own after practice, buying two cakes from a cart near the gate and walking until he loses the bustle outside. It’s easy to get lost in the winding pathways, heading deeper into the quiet, and there’s dozens of benches underneath the burnished leaves where young couples are tucked away on dates, or old friends are laughing and catching up. In some of the little clearings, there’s small shrines where people leave offerings, a prayer for good luck or good fortune.
Kailer stops at one without any people and sets the second maple cake on top of it, then sits and scrolls through all the texts that he’s missed. His mom gets replied to with a picture of him outside the garden gate, grinning and surrounded by other travelers. He sends his brother a picture of a trashy graphic I Love Japan t-shirt with the threat that he’ll buy one for him, and Kailer’s dad gets a picture of the meticulously arranged and cut bonsai that are across from the bench where he’s sitting. The Seattle groupchat gets a recycled meme from Robo, and he gets two thumbs up and an “LMAO” before he can even exit the thread. Finally, Kailer takes a picture of the half-eaten maple cake in his hand, holding it next to a fallen maple leaf on the bench, and gets halfway through typing another message before he thinks better of it.
(On the plane over, Drieds was reading them a story about how when they first introduced the high-speed railway, people were afraid to use it because they thought it would be too fast for their souls to keep up.
“Bro, if that were true, you just left your soul in the middle of the Pacific,” Ebs had laughed. “Planes are faster than trains.”
“Are they?” Matty asked. “Isn’t the train in Japan the fastest in the world?”
Drieds couldn’t make it through the rest of the story over the sound of everyone ripping Matty to shreds, so Kailer didn’t get to ask whether or not they found out anything about planes. Kailer’s not worried about his soul, but the logic makes a strange kind of sense; after all, he traveled 429 miles in five and a half hours once, and that was a little too fast for his heart to keep up.)
Fuck it. Kailer’s been trying to write a response for the past ten days, and he’s sick of swiping in and out of the message, staring at the keyboard so long he starts to see swirls in his vision.
Kailer drafts the text again and sends it, no context, no caption. A text travels faster than a high-speed train or a jet. Maybe it’ll pick his heart back up on the way.
#I don’t know how this song ended up on my Spotify wrapped because phoebe bridgers is too emotionally damaging for me to listen to like.#at all unless i am In It HOWEVER. there is this one silly video that brings me so much joy and made me feel semi-reasonable about listening#to kyoto & it’s the one video of the two painter guys painting the room & the lil guy is being a menace & the other guy just looks at him s#fondly & so lovingly & is that not the thesis of kailer yamamoto. be small be a menace be beloved by everyone. Second ask if it's not too much to ask :') Can you give us headcanons about Musashi, Hiruma, Jumonji, Rui and Homer in a love relationship with a foreigner female s/o ? (European/American for the first ones and European/Asian for Homer I guess ?) Thanks !
We’re going to pretend that there is no real language barrier for most of them.  This is in part because I forgot about it lol
Takekura “Musashi” Gen
Doesn’t actually think too much about the fact that you’re foreign.  You’re you, and that’s all he cares about.
He’s a good listener, so he’ll gladly hear you talk about your home.  He’s only been to America once, and it was pure chaos, so it’s nice to hear about the normal things
The best boyfriend to have if you make mistakes with regards to social/cultural norms in Japan without knowing it.  Never makes a big deal about it, and never calls you out in public.  He’ll tell you later, and he has this blasé way of doing it that somehow doesn’t embarrass you?
He’s not good at explanations for things that just are in Japan, but he does his best.
He’s the type that if someone draws attention to your foreigner status he shrugs them off.  If they are being rude about it, well, then the intimidation comes out.  He’s not a small guy.
You usually have to take the lead with him, at least as far as things you want to do.  He’s tired after working all day, so if it was up to him, it would just be cuddle/naptime most of the time
Never adverse to going where you want, even the worst of the tourist spots.  He doesn’t even grumble about it, which has earned a side eye from Hiruma a time or two when he’d been dragged along (somehow, no one is actually sure why or how he got there, Mamori or Kurita are usually the suspected culprits).
Completely fine with PDA, he doesn’t consider your affection, or his, embarrassing, but there is always a hint of pink in his cheeks anyway.
Hiruma Yoichi
Given how much he travelled as a kid, the fact that you are not native to Japan means little to him.
Underwhelming, I know, but he speaks English fairly well, so there are no communication problems, and he really doesn’t see your foreigner status.
It’s mildly inconvenient if you are something like an exchange student, but while Hiruma is a tyrant and can seem inflexible, it’s not true at all.  He adapts well and can change plans on a drop of a hat.  If you think an ocean between you and him is an obstacle, you’d better think again.
Nothing gets in his way if he wants something.
There might be some clashes as far as romantic behavior, since Japanese youth tend to be fairly reserved when it comes to touchy PDAs and the like.  This goes double for him, since he doesn’t really like being touched in general (he melts some for you), and his automatic response negative.
You’ll have to be further into your relationship before he’ll do anything more than walk beside you.  Once you get past the two kilometer (one mile) high wall he puts up around himself, you will be given the privilege of being allowed to hold his hand out and about when he doesn’t need it, and he’ll let you snuggle against him if you’re sitting somewhere together.
If there comes a day when he puts you in his lap to work around you, you’ll know that he trusts you the most and has given you (metaphorically) his heart.
Not that he would ever say so out loud.
Jumonji Kazuki
Somehow, he’s even shyer with you than he is with other girls in school.
He’s somewhat used to being confessed to, it happens all the time, but when it comes to you, he just can’t be as cool as he is with them.
Language barriers stress him out – he’s afraid of saying something offensive by accident, no matter how many times you tell him that won’t happen.  If you speak Japanese, even at a basic level, it’s easier.  As long as the pair of you can get your general points across at the beginnings, it’s okay, and both of you get better as the time goes on.
He lets you lead dates, since let’s face it, you probably have more experience than he does and he doesn’t want to take you somewhere you don’t like.  However, if you ask him to plan something, he always comes through.
Really, he worries for nothing.  He’s perfectly capable of coming up with a date you’ll like.
100% asks Mamori for help though, even though he’s too embarrassed even to look at her.  Lord help him if Suzuha is within earshot.  The whole team will know about it in about five minutes (even if they are scattered.  Suzuha is scary).
Surprisingly, he initiates things like hand holding, and even kisses you first.  He can’t help it, since you’re so cute, and he’s a little impatient.
His idiot friend’s teasing might play a part.
Habashira Rui
You’re going to have to do all the work to bridge the gap with this one.  He’d never approach you in a million years, even if he liked you.  The fact that your foreign is just another barrier for him.  His self-confidence when it comes to girls is in the negatives.
The type to watch you from afar and pine.  Even though your being foreign is a barrier, he still finds it interesting, which is why he pays attention to you in the first place.
He’s a little jealous by nature, so over time the attention you get starts bothering him, but he’s smart enough to know that it’s really none of his business.  It’s just one more thing to suffer in silence for.
If you start talking to him, he’ll come off as grumpy and short at first – keep at it!  He’s not really, at least not to girls. He may look like a gangster, but he’s actually pretty nice underneath.  He’s just really awkward.
He relaxes the more attempts you make.  He’s hesitant about your attention.  While he’s confident about his skills in most things, talking, especially to girls, he is not.  It’s in the back of his mind that it could be a joke, it wouldn’t be the first time.
Continued attention is highly recommended.  As he becomes more comfortable, he opens up.  He’s very busy with his personal training
Once you start dating he’s pretty sweet.  Listens really well, and learns all your likes and dislikes.  Gives you small presents that always match your taste.  He likes to pick out things you can’t really get in your home country.
Homer Fitzgerald
He’s really keen on meeting you right from the beginning.  He’s extroverted and generally happy and kind.  He’s probably on the front line to greet you.
He finds the fact that you’re from so far fun and he wants to know all about where you come from.  Asks a thousand questions and it’s easy to carried away by the wave of him.
This is a boy that respects boundaries.  No matter what step you’re at, he always asks until you’re comfortable enough for things to just be normal.
Literally the best boyfriend.  He’s enthusiastic about you and he falls hard quickly.  Wants to show you everything exciting in state.
He’s an active guy, so there might be a lot of outdoor excursions and hikes and the like.  If these aren’t your thing, he can compromise, but he’s going to wheedle you into one or two trips.  He’s proud of his home state of Texas and he wants to share that with you.
He’s fine to laze around too.  Cuddling is his favorite and he could snuggle with you forever.  Willing to watch whatever you want, even or especially movies from your home country.  He sees it as further insight into you
Because he’s used to defending Panther from racism, he’s very sensitive to it.  It’s probably the only time you will see him truly angry.  Racism/xenophobia is a very big NO in his books.  Would fight the world for his babe.

15, 69, 90 and 95!
15. favorite book you read as a school assignment? I actually never had a book assignment! I don't know how it is possible but yep. I think we MIGHT have had a one time in junior high when we had to read ANY book we wanted and write a small report of it and I read a comic book - and it was fine. So, no book assignments here :3 Not typical to Finnish schools, mind you, my schools were just weird....
69. a fun fact that you don’t know how you learned? It is considered rude in Japan to smell or have a strong odor. Whether a nice smell or a bad smell.
90. luckiest mistake? When I was visiting Fushimi Inari mountain in Japan, I didn't walk all the way up to the top. I hiked for 2 hours and then decided with a friend who was with me that we should start to ascent the mountain. Too bad, we got off from the main track without knowing it.
Fushimi Inari is always full of people for it being a famous tourist attraction spot. But, on our way down, we saw maybe 5 other people only. We found two small shops, one selling souvenirs and other offerings for the Inari god. I bought the offering statue set of three foxes but kept them myself. From the souvenir shop, I found a small fox trinket made from kimono fabrics, and the shop clerk blessed it for me in a traditional Japanese way (which I have seen only that one time in real life, despite that I visit Japan regularly).
Tumblr media
We arrived to a normal looking neighborhood street leading to the main road off side from the main entrance where we should have arrived back to. Those statues above are still one of my treasure findings.
95. favorite app on your phone? I hate apps and try to avoid using them as much as I can. I'm a computer person down to core. Having said that, one of my fave apps is a game called Royal Match. it's free and the best thing? It doesn't have any adds. Not a single one! Even the games own occasional deals are advertised with a minimum inconvenience. How amazing in the era of adds pushing onto your face everywhere unless you intentionally block them.

群馬県
Japanese Prefectures: Kantō - Gunma
都道府県 (とどうふけん) - Prefectures of Japan
Learning the kanji and a little bit about each of Japan’s 47 prefectures!
Kanji・漢字
群 む(れる)、むら、グン flock, group, crowd, herd, swarm, cluster
馬 うま、ま、バ horse
県 ケン prefecture
関東 かんとう Kanto, region consisting of Tokyo and surrounding prefectures
Prefectural Capital (県庁所在地) : Maebashi (前橋市)
Tumblr media
The ancient province of Gunma was a center of horse breeding and trading activities, and thus the character for horse is one of the kanji in the prefecture's name. The horse came to Japan along with the arrival of a large migration of people from the mainland of Asia, and from then on the horse became a vital part of the Japanese military and displaced the older Yayoi tradition of fighting on foot.
One of only eight land-locked prefectures in Japan, Gunma is also very mountainous. Snowy mountains that are prime for winter sports give way to excellent hiking trails in the summer. Gunma has some of the nation's best hot springs and is famous for its daruma dolls, which are good luck charms. Other sports to do in Gunma include canyoning, waterfall sliding, rafting, and bungee jumping.
Recommended Tourist Spot・おすすめ観光スポット Sainokawara Park - 西の河原公園
Tumblr media
Sainokawara Park at night
Sainokawara Park is in a valley just outside of the hot spring and ski resort town center of Kusatsu, where several hot spring sources and a large outdoor bath are located. There are walking trails around the upper part of the park that lead through the magnificent natural landscapes. This is the most active hot spring area in Japan, with an output of hot spring water of 1,070 litres per minute. Hot spring water can be seen bubbling to the surface in certain places, where they collect into hot water pools and run down the valley in warm streams before joining the central mountain stream. There is also a hot water waterfall with a free foot bath at the base. The park area is accessible free of charge.
Due to the high temperature of the hot spring waters that flow here, very little can grow in the areas where it collects. It was believed that the spirits of children who died before their parents would be sent to these barren pools. You may come across small stone statues called jizo, that are made in the image of the guardian deity of children and travelers, Jizo Bosatsu. These statues often are wearing red hats and bibs, and are meant to protect the spirits of the children from demons.
The natural pools in the park are not for bathing, but the park also houses the Sainokawara Rotenburo, a large open-air public bath with two gender-separated outdoor hot springs, with a capacity of 100 bathers each. The outdoor bath also offers an evening of mixed bathing every Friday, when the bath is open to everyone, including couples and families.
Tumblr media
Yubatake, or Hot Water Field, in Kusatsu
A 10-minute walk from Sainokawara Park is the Yubatake (or "Hot Water Field"). Here in the center of Kusatsu is a field of pumps that removes 32,300 litres of hot water every minute, cools it a few degrees, then sends it off to various local hot springs. The healing waters of the Kusatsu Onsen (hot springs) vary from milky to clear, and sulfurous to acidic, and are said to soothe most of your troubles, except a broken heart.
Regional Cuisine - 郷土料理 Yakimanju - 焼きまんじゅう
Tumblr media
Yakimanju (source)
Yakimanju is a popular snack in Gunma Prefecture, but is not well known outside of the prefecture. Yakimanju is a grilled sweet bun. Manju are sweet buns made of rice or wheat flour and commonly are steamed. Yakimanju is grilled after being steamed, giving the outside a crunchy texture rather than the usual fluffy texture. The outside is coated with a sweet mixture of brown sugar, syrup, and miso paste. Unlike manju, which usually has a filling of red bean or other sweet paste, yakimanju typically has no filling.
Yakimanju was invented at the end of the Edo period, about 150 years ago. Wheat was commonly grown in agricultural Gunma, and thus wheat flour was originally used to make the predecessor of yakimanju, called sakamanju. Sakamanju hardened quickly after being made, and so to make it easier to eat, people would grill it and season it with miso paste. And thus yakimanju was developed.
