Watching people seriously ship romantically Sauron/Galadriel in the Rings of power knowing full well that he is the ORIGINAL Mansplain, Manipulate, Manslaughter and that he is manipulating the whole audience too into believing he has actual feelings and not just a thirst for power and corruption of pure souls:

"Paul isn't the hero so he must be the villain-" I need you to stop right there and accept the fact that not every story requires or intends to have A Singular Hero and A Singular Villain and if a protagonist isn't one then they *must* be the other, and that the majority of complex stories actually do not have many characters who perfectly fit the role of "the hero" or "the villain"

The homoeroticism and overfamiliarity in The Glory is so deliberately rancid.

In the past, it was used by the bullies (and especially Park Yeon-jin) towards Dong-eun. Inviting themselves to her home (a place where she should be safe), saying her legs are pretty (before shoving an iron to them). Superficial compliments used as they steadily destroy her life.

For Dong-eun, love and hatred intermingle. They always have. Park Yeon-jin taught her that. Her own mother taught her that as she signed her away.

As Dong-eun plots her revenge, she speaks of longing for Park Yeon-jin. A burning desire to see her consumed in flames. And when she's face to face with the bullies, it's all "Yeon-jin ah" and "I'm glad you never changed". She turns it back on them. Smiles in their faces as they once did to her. Words of love soaked in an undeniable coat of hatred.

#doing a rewatch so my drafts are just filling up with spam like this ig #ig I'm used to homoeroticism being a thing where even between villainous and heroic characters it's still kinda balanced? there's respect?#but in this case because the power dynamics are so tilted from the start. bullies and victim. it's just another weapon in the arsenal.#and dong-eun twisting it back later on is almost reclaiming it as her own knife. presenting herself as having the upper hand.#closest thing it reminds me to is satorika torture scene in gousotsu because satoko has all the knowledge and rika at her mercy #but even that's not the same because satorika have genuine care and history behind them that isn't antagonistic.#with the glory it's just rancid. there is no care. no love lost. it's just power dynamics being used as weapons.#the glory #(tbh I suspect this stuff is probably connected to why queercoded villains used to be such a thing but my knowledge on older media #is limited so I don't have active comparison points here.)

The worst part abt being in a really small fandom is that if you dislike or disagree with the widespread interpretation of a character, it’s impossible to make a post about it because

1) nobody knows what you are talking about except for the people in the fandom, of which there are few

2) “widespread” means 5 very dedicated fic writers and a lot of discussion of headcanons in a discord server

3) everyone in the fandom knows one another. There’s no way that people you know won’t see the post because there are so few posts, everyone will know it is you, and it is difficult to phrase it in a way that doesn’t sound targeted or accusatory because there are so few people

Some initial design choices for the Forrad brothers cuz I've been focussing more on the Myriad Tribe and the assassin squad as I'm planning to try and write Niv's story (finally. After 4 years)

Some information about them under the cut!

Bendik Forrad is the older of the two brothers and is Niv's adoptive father. He found the boy in a burning ship as a newborn, with his parents no-where to be found. He had assumed they had perished in the fire and sunken to the bottom of the ocean, so he had decided to take the infant under his own wing to raise to become a successful member of the Myriad Tribe.

Bendik is a very strict parent (if you can even call him a parent) and due to a fear of bonding with others, not very emotionally available. He lost an older sibling bc of the assassin training program as a child and still has a lot of issues left over from it, resulting in the way he is as an adult. Still, he's regarded as a highly successful individual, being a part of the council and often being told he should challenge the current chief to become chief himself. It is quite unknown if he's actually gonna do this

He, his little brother Ludvig, and Niv all live together in the same hut and due to this forced proximity, he and Ludvig are closer than expected. Bendik still feels some sort of responsibility to his brother, certainly after Ludvig's difficulty entering adulthood

Ludvig Forrad, in return, is quite the bitter person. He failed his first assassin job as a teen and the guilt and shame that has brought him, hasn't faded yet. His whole life, he had been praised and had been told he'd become the greatest of his generation, but after his failure, all society would talk about, was his one mistake.

He's not exactly a loving uncle to Niv, being rather suspicious of this rascal of a boy and very distrusting of his capabilities. Ludvig believes Niv doesn't fit into the Myriad Tribe, but Bendik would kill him if he ever told him that. Still, Niv reminds him of the past that keeps haunting him over and over again - something in those eyes and in that way of speaking triggers him time and time again, causing in Ludvig often taking his anger out on the boy and leaving Niv terrified of what the man is capable of

Ludvig is, in fact, one of the most skilled assassins of the Myriad Tribe, but is never taken seriously bc of his past failures (he's very angy about that)

#the thing with these two brothers is #theyre not even villains #theyre antagonists #standing between niv and his goals #which is what's so interesting about them #it's only after niv gets free that they actively become villains (well. ludvig was one in his teens but that isn't exactly relevant here)#bendik in particular doesn't know if he loves his adoptive son or not #seeing as he's not exactly allowing himself to love or get attached bc they can die from the myriad tribe's extreme way of living #man's emotionally repressed af and meanwhile ludvig only feels rage towards a past he cannot change #and with niv being in the picture... it's a miracle he hasn't succumbed yet if these are his only parental figures #poor baby boi #i really enjoy thinking about this dynamic and the way the forrad brothers have been shaped by their society #it gives them such a deep sense of character #theyre victims in their own rights but make niv a victim too bc of the same reasons #anyways #im excited to finally be developing this in full #httyd #how to train your dragon #oc #artinandwritin's art #bendik forrad #ludvig forrad

Circling the chair, a tense standoff unfolded between two contrasting figures. One, with an aura of mischief, stood boldly, while the other, marked by recent turmoil, faced them with a mix of defiance and curiosity.

"Come on, join the fun," the mischievous one urged with a playful grin. "Let's stir things up a bit."

The other shook their head adamantly, refusing to be swayed. "I won't be a part of your reckless schemes."

But the mischievous one persisted, undeterred by the rejection. "You can't deny there's a spark between us. Why not embrace it?"

As they bantered back and forth, the tension crackled, reaching a crescendo with the sudden intrusion of a radio broadcast. Its announcement labeled one of them as a fugitive, casting a shadow of suspicion over their interaction.

Curses escaped the accused's lips as their secret was laid bare. The mischievous one couldn't help but feel a surge of intrigue, wondering what secrets lay hidden beneath the surface.

"I got too close to something I shouldn't have," the accused confessed, their voice laced with desperation. "I've been on the run for months."

Moved by their vulnerability, the mischievous one approached cautiously, sensing an opportunity amidst the chaos. As they drew nearer, a forbidden attraction simmered beneath the surface, threatening to ignite.

"What if we took them down together?" the accused proposed, a glimmer of hope in their eyes. "And then you can decide if you want to be the hero."

The mischievous one chuckled, seeing through the facade with ease. "You got yourself caught on purpose, didn't you?"

Caught off guard, the accused hesitated before admitting the truth. "Maybe," they conceded, a hint of mischief dancing in their gaze.

villain definition: a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot.

anti-villain definition: a character who has heroic personality traits or goals but is ultimately the bad guy.

#aria rants #i love seeing it and now i see another loved character. im talking bout sparkle from hsr this time #her trailer is just so good with everything that it really is a trailer just for her. everything bout it has themes and details #that points to sparkle. it tells a story. shows her beliefs. and presents symbolisms all pertaining to sparkle herself #tbf i alrdy love how sparkle is written (been a long while since hoyo wrote a morally ambiguous character outside of hi3)#shes antagonistic in her own way. so far most of her actions came off as smth villainous during 2.0's story #but thats also what makes her intriguing and interesting as a character cuz she isnt just a purely evil villain #and the trailer showcased that in a way thats fitting for her. shes a Fool. yet not completely ''foolish.'' she has no face #since all she ever has are masks to present to others. she follows Elation with a dual-coloured mask that represents good #and evil yet not in a synergy. it is balanced but a clear line is driven between it. she can be good. she can be evil.#whichever is more entertaining is what she'll choose. its an option for her and not an obligation. i love her character a lot

#jjk spoilers #jjk #jjk manga #jujutsu kaisen #I chose Maya for Yuji just because they both get on some possession shenanigans #Maya gets possessed sometimes by one of the antagonists named Dahlia to commit murder/other heinous acts #And is always destroyed inside bc she wasn't strong enough to supress the spirit and etc #just like Yuji. So it's only fitting #Now for Sukuna. I wanted so badly to make him be Dahlia it would be perfect #but then. She always acts like a soft girl (to hide her trueself) that it would be weird to draw this 1000 yr old villain just like that...#So I made his left hand and expression match hers #and then added some Von Karma to spice it up #the old man that persisted twisting everything just because he is powerfull #it fits sukuna #and at last for Higuruma as Miles...#I was between Pheonix and Miles #But thought it would be best to be miles just because miles was the guy who wanted to be lawyer but #bc of the injustice of the world he was forced upon being a prosecutor #just like Higuruma in the culling game #but then after a change of heart by his colleague he pursued the justice once again #+ they both since young can't stand injustice. Miles was the one who defended the MC of Ace Attorney when they were just kids #...and Higuruma's personality fits Miles better than phoenix even though they arent so similar #Also i thought of using maybe the other games aside from the main 3 but I don't think much people know about them #(Not everyone can watch full gameplays of 9 different games that are above 10 hours y'know....)#Anyways i know this wont get much attention so i'm just gonna screenshot this when i finish the art!

oh yeah i finally watched season 2 of sonic prime today

#it was good! im gonna be real i was only ever interested when either shadow or nine was on screen tho ToT #but it was worth it just for that. every interaction sonic and shadow had made me smile so wide i could watch a whole #series of them just arguing with each other. they are so silly #and then NINEEEEE ARHGHRRHGRHGHRGH I LOVE HIM. entire season was worth it just for that final conversation between him and sonic #when sonic was talking about his original friends and said ''the real tails'' and nine went ''I AM REAL!'' I’m taking notes as I read (sections of) the penelopiad for class and one just says “EURYCLEIA SLANDER”

#bolo liveblogs #I'm just reading the assigned sections so take this w/a grain of salt but the way eurycleia is characterized here leaves a #bad taste in my mouth #she's so uniformly antagonistic and I think it causes some important things about her character (like the sheer power difference between her #and odysseus AND penelope. who also suffers misogyny but is a high-class woman and part of the estate that keeps eurycleia as a slave)#to get minimized #like yes eurycleia is absolutely complicit in the slaughter of the maidservants but are you sure it was just because she #hated them and penelope? do you have no other possible explanations?#and even if you are going to make her an antagonist (which is a fair reading if you want to hone in on the killing of the maidservants)#I think there are more interesting ways of doing it than making her a mustache-twirling villain
