I have moments I don’t feel equipped, and I think a lot about Moses.
I have moments I don’t feel I could be forgiven, and I think about Paul.
I have moments I worry about being hated, and I think about Jesus.
He will do it.

¹⁷ “You can throw us into the blazing furnace. The God we serve is able to save us from the furnace and your power. If He does this, it is good. ¹⁸ But even if God does not save us, we want you, our king, to know this: We will not serve your gods. We will not worship the gold statue you have set up.”

So I know this is a widely debated topic in the church, but I'm looking at the arguments, and I can't help but think most people are missing the point. So... is it a sin to not attend church?
Firstly, it doesn't command to attend church in the Bible. The two commands that are given is to 1) remember the Sabbath and keep it holy, and 2) to not abandon meeting together with other believers. So let's break down what those mean.
1) Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. The Sabbath is a day of rest, which we follow to remember that on the seventh day of creation, God rested. God did this not because *he* needed rest, but to set an example for us. We *absolutely* need a rest, or we shut down, both mentally and physically. So we keep this command by remembering to have a day of rest. We keep it holy by using that day to redirect our focus on God.
2) Do not abandon meeting together. This is the real root of it, isn't it? We meet together at church, right? That's fine in principle, but we need to understand that "going to church" today looks very different from what "meeting together" looked like back then. Meeting together was having meals together. It was small groups sharing testimony. It was living life together in a community of believers. It was sharing your doubts and struggles, and praying for each other. It was iron sharpening iron. It was *not* just going to a designated building and listening to someone talk to a large group of people before going your separate ways with little more than a "hey, how are you doing?".
So no. I don't think not "going to church" is a sin. I think there are many ways to fulfill those commands without ever setting foot in a church building, and frankly I think a lot of people just "go to church" without actually fulfilling those commands.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not against churches. There are a lot of great churches out there that are very focused on forming relationships. I think that even average churches are a great way to meet other believers, and start relationships. But if you are just going to church to check off a religious box and you aren't taking those relationships any deeper, you aren't truly fulfilling the command to meet together. And if you are running around frantic on Sundays and you aren't taking a day of rest, and refocusing on God, you aren't truly fulfilling the command to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. (Fun side note: the actual Sabbath is on Saturday, but we meet and worship on Sunday because Jesus was raised from the dead on Sunday... point being, your Sabbath rest doesn't *have* to be Sunday, as long as you are taking a day of rest to recharge and focus on God.)

One of my pet SMRPG headcanons:
The first time Peach uses Come Back to revive Geno, he is absolutely floored. How is she tapping into star magic? Especially when the Star Road is broken? And how is she doing it this expertly? He can't even use it this way.
Plus, to him specifically, it feels so much better than a Pick-Me-Up. When the doll's senses are knocked into next week, the star inside is still perfectly conscious, just kind of stuck in a void. This means he's also fully aware at the moment of revival, which - via a Pick-Me-Up - feels every bit as disorienting as when he first possessed the doll, plus he's not in control of the timing. Every single time. He deals with it.
But this? This is transcendent. Even in the blank darkness he's stuck in, he can see the star come down. It gently tells him it's time to come back, and politely leads the way there. There's never time for a conversation, but often, he knows its name.
During their adventure to restore the Star Road, Geno probably doesn't tell the rest of party this. After all, the result is functionally the same, and he doesn't want them to use resources non-ideally just so he can be a little more comfortable. But every time a star deposits him back onto the battlefield in Peach's arms, he thanks every celestial authority he can name for the opportunity to know a person like this - and marvels a little more at just how much of her potential she has yet to discover.
(PS: I've been wanting to delve into lineless art, and found a workflow in Clip Studio I love for it! Maybe this will help me get a little faster...)
