traffic jams of the heart // billie dean howard x reader
a/n: posting my older works
warnings: none
Tumblr media
"If I could turn back time!" Cher blasted through the car as Billie Dean gazed out the window. She and Y/n had just switched seats and she was more than happy to enjoy the opportunity to relax.
She gazed over at her lover watching as she casually drummed her fingers against the steering wheel to the song. She couldn't help but smile as she watched the younger girl push her glasses up her nose in concentration. The pair were returning from a spontaneous weekend getaway initiated by Billie. She'd been working nonstop the last couple weeks and was in serious need of some time away.
Y/n was fairly busy herself considering her students were preparing for college application season, and being so loved she had several students she was helping. Friday afternoon, when the school day came to an end, Y/n sat quietly in her classroom compiling lists of schools and information for a couple of students when she heard a knock at her door. She looked up and met Billie's warm brown eyes and couldn't fight the smile that spread across her face.
The medium had never come to her place of work. She stood from her place behind her desk and moved to greet the older woman. They were no where near official. They were actually closer to friends with benefits, and Y/n was very confused. They rarely went out due to Billie's status, so to see Billie Dean Howard, medium to the stars, standing in her classroom when anyone of her coworkers could see them made the situation a bit awkward.
Billie, on the other hand, was quick to close the space between the two with a hug and a chaste kiss to Y/n's lips. When she pulled away she was quick to push Y/n back toward her desk ordering her to pack all of her things so they could leave. Y/n obviously grew more confused, considering they didn't have plans to her knowledge. But once Billie reassured her that she hadn't forgotten about anything and that this was solely her doing, they were heading out of the school.
Leaving her car in the parking lot of the school, Billie whisked her away to a relaxing weekend with just the two of them. It was an amazing way to unwind a bit and she always loved spending time with Billie. They'd spent the weekend wrapped in their own world and it definitely reignited a few feelings y/n wasn't aware she still had for the medium. The domesticity of the entire weekend had her longing for some stability in her love life.
Y/n had stumbled into this friends with benefits things after a one night stand that neither of them could get off their minds. Once they reconnected, the pair let the anxiety surrounding rejection keep them from exploring anything more than sex. Of course they grew to know each other during each meeting and now here they were, in this state of confusion concerning their feelings for each other.
Y/n sighed heavily as the traffic thickened and the cars in front of them stopped moving. A traffic jam. Just what the pair needed.
"There must be an accident or something." Y/n felt herself mumbled out as the current song faded out.
"You're probably right. It's fine though, I could do with a little more time with you before we get back to reality." Billie said softly, almost timidly.
Y/n felt herself smile and finally took a hand off the steering wheel offering it to Billie, who gladly took it and tucked it securely in her own. It was moments like this when Y/n wanted to just confess her feelings for the medium. But she can't help but to think that if Billie Dean really wanted more with her, she'd have said something by now.
So as they sat in a traffic jam, holding hands, listening to Cher. They were stuck in more than one traffic jam.
Billie drew circles softly over the exposed skin of Y/n's arm and smiled as she felt the goosebumps appear under her touch. She loved the effect she had over the younger woman. Y/n was so confident in her classroom, but as soon as Billie was around it was a completely different story. Billie loved knowing she was the only person to make Y/n feel that way and the thought of her having that interaction with anyone else almost had Billie spilling her guts to the teacher. But of course she was terrified their ages would get in the way of anything they'd potentially have. Y/n was young and still had her life ahead of her. Why would she want to be tied to an older woman.
So as you can see. An emotional traffic jam. With absolutely no movement forward or backward.
As the cars slowly rolled forward Y/n's phone rang from the cup holder in the center of Billie's car. She turned to grab it and examined the number curiously and quickly answered it.
"Hello?" She asked slowly. Billie looked on skeptically. The pair had insisted on no phones for the weekend, but Y/n seemed very concerned about this call.
"Yes I'm listening Abigail." Y/n spoke into phone sending an apologetic look toward Billie who still had her hand. "No I'm not home, why?" Billie perked up a bit hearing the older female voice through the phone.
"I thought we could spend the weekend together, but when I came by you weren't home."
"Oh I went on a last minute trip." Y/n said removing her hand from Billie's to scratch the nape of her neck anxiously. Billie caught the act and felt the jealousy flaring within her. Who was making her girl anxious? Who was worried about her girl's whereabouts?
The traffic started to clear and Y/n's free hand went back to the wheel as she started steering them toward the school. A sign they were parting ways soon and Billie Dean felt her heart drop in sadness.
"Abigail, you can not just show up to my building without tell me." Y/n said down the phone cause Billie's brows to furrow.
"I know what I said Abi. And the offer will always stand-" y/n started but was cut off by the person on the phone.
"Exactly, so What's the big deal, it's not like you're dating anyone right now. It shouldn't be a problem." Abigail said.
Y/n turned to meet Billie's eyes for the first time since answering the call. "Abi that's none of your business. I'd just like some notice before you just come to my apartment. Even if I'm not in a relationship. Listen, I'm about to pick up my car. We'll talk about this when I get home." Y/n said down the phone before hanging up and turning into the parking lot of the school. She parked the medium's car right next to her own and put the car in park.
She went to remove her seatbelt and exit the car when Billie reached over and turned the car off. She exited the car first popping the trunk to retrieve Y/n's bag. They met at the trunk of Y/n's car and stood quietly for a moment.
"Thank you for this weekend. I really enjoyed spending it with you." Y/n smiled up at the medium. Billie sent her a smile but decided it was time for their cars to move in the right direction.
"Who is Abigail?" Billie Dean asked moving her hair out of her face.
"Oh Abigail is my ex." Y/n spoke honestly as her eyes shifted to her feet.
"Oh...why is she at your house?" Billie asked sitting the suitcase down.
"Well she's had a kind of hard life and I've always tried to provide her with some kind of support since she has no family around. So I told her she could come by whenever she needed." Y/n tried to explain as vaguely as possible.
"Should I be worried?" Billie finally asked, raising her eyebrow in question.
"I-" Y/n started but stopped once the words registered in her brain. "Why would you be worried Billie Dean?"
"Well I don't just spend romantic weekends away with just anyone." Billie said suddenly growing shy.
"Well I don't just sleep with just anyone. Despite what you may think considering how we met." Y/n said cheekily as she reached to take the older woman's hand in her own.
"Good to know." Billie said meeting Y/n's eyes.
"Okay. Maybe we can do this again sometime." Y/n suggested.
"Oh most definitely. Maybe we can be more than friends by the time we go." Billie suggested softly
"Well, we could be more than friends right now." Y/n thought.
As the thought crossed her mind she watched as the medium's facial expression altered. "Do you mean that?" Billie asked with wide eyes.
Y/n could feel her face heat instantly as she realized she spoke aloud. "...If you want that." Y/n said suddenly losing the confidence she briefly had.
"Well is that what you want?" Billie asked stepping closer to Y/n.
"If I say yes are you going to run?" Y/n said.
"Only if you ask me too." Billie Dean answered bringing her hands to Y/n's waist.
The pair couldn't fight the magnetic pull that pulled them together at this point. The emotional clarity was opening their eyes and their hearts to this new experience and they were loving it. Billie leaned down connecting their lips in a sweet kiss. A kiss that was familiar but screamed new in both of their hearts.
They broke apart breathlessly and found their eyes gazing lazily at the road ahead. All figurative and literal roads were clear and ready to be traveled. Together.

Too Focused to Notice
Billie Dean Howard
(Edited)
Warnings: none, just hard fluff I guess? And maybe a tiny bit of suggestive talk ;)
Word count: 2.3k
A/N: I made a lot of changes to this so please come back and give it another read!! I promise it’s way better than the first version:)
Tumblr media
You had been one of Billie's makeup artists for a few months now. She had heard of you and your work several times from a few of her colleagues and decided that she wanted to meet you. When she had got in contact with you and you agreed to meet her, she could point out the evident excitement in your voice as you replied that you’d love to. The day that she scheduled it, she opened the door and has been star-struck ever since then; You were beautiful.
She asked to see examples of looks you have done on other celebrities and immediately decided to hire you as her makeup artist for her show, interviews, and photoshoots.
Of course, you knew who the famous medium was, but you didn't expect her to be so breath-taking in person; Her dark eyes and the slightly southern tang to her accent had pulled you in immediately. The first few times you did her makeup, you almost couldn’t control the shakiness of your hands as you came in such proximity to her face. You thought it was quite pathetic, but she just chuckled, saying ‘Honey, I don’t bite, I promise’ in a soft, reassuring voice.
She always looked perfect to you, even before the day starts and you have yet to—as Billie says— ‘doll her up’.
However, Billie wasn't the easiest person to read. If she reciprocated your feelings, you wouldn’t know it; She always had a flirtatious personality since the day you met her, so you took her teasing and compliments with a grain of salt, as she did that with basically everyone. And after all, you didn't know if she was even attracted to women.
Oh, how you’d find out, though.
You were currently at the front door of Billie's house, coming to prepare her for an online interview she had with Vogue. You stopped by her favorite café to pick up her go-to breakfast order and coffee.
You reached over to ring her doorbell, the sound chiming softly from the inside as you waited a few seconds before the door opened to reveal Billie in a cream-colored silk robe, hanging just above her ankles. You observed her flawless curls as they flowed loosely around her shoulders. Your eyes made their way to her own where you found a soft smile adorning her bare, freckled face. You were used to seeing her like this; You always thought that she always looked so pretty without makeup—so simple and elegant. You were afraid to trail your eyes further down to the opening of her robe, afraid that she would notice your lingering eyes, so you opted to reciprocate her smile as you returned your gaze to hers.
"Good morning, darling," she said, moving to clear the doorway to invite you in, "I didn't know if you've eaten yet...so I decided to pick up some breakfast and coffee for you," You said, reaching out to hand her the bag of chocolate-covered croissants and a cappuccino as you stepped into the entryway of her glamorous home; She informed you that she had a bit of a sweet tooth one day as you did her makeup for the Emmys, so you made it your mission to bring her sweet things for breakfast when you knew she probably hadn’t eaten yet.
She muttered a small ‘thank you’ as she took the items. You waited for her in the entryway as she closed the door. She turned around, giving you a smile and wink as she moved closer. So charming, you thought as you smiled back, a light pink already tinting your cheekbones. She walked past you into the living room, taking a sip of her coffee as she reached her hand out and curled her finger in a come hither motion, her back still to you as she walked farther into the house. You followed close behind her, makeup supplies in hand, as you found yourself in her bedroom. You were used to this, though. Depending on her mood, she sometimes liked her makeup done in the living room, and sometimes she liked it done in her bedroom. Although, you wish you were in her bedroom for an entirely different reason...
Her bedroom showcased who she was; It showed off her elegance, but it was a bit different from her exterior; The first time, you’d imagined her house to be all marble and silk material, but her house was quite the opposite. The room was painted a light cream, with dark brown wooden furniture and red velvet curtains and bedspread complimenting the color. The medium made it over to the drapes, pulling them open to let the natural sunlight pour in.
She strutted her way over to sit at her vanity, positioning her cream velvet stool to where you could have the best access to her features. Her hairstylist had done her hair before you arrived, so it was just you and her. You shuffled your way over to her, placing your makeup bag on the edge of the vanity.
She watched you intently as you retrieved items from your bag, sitting the eyeshadows, blushes, lipsticks, and glosses out in front of her to give her choices like you always did.
"How about you surprise me this time, doll? I want to see what you think would look good on me," the blonde said, looking up to you with her honey brown eyes. She had never asked you to do this before, but you’d always do anything she asked; God, at this point, she could ask you to lick her Louboutins clean and you’d say yes.
Billie had taken notice of your shyness over the time she has spent with you, but she loved it. You were always very polite and careful with her when you applied products to her face, but you also felt comfortable and made conversation with her while you worked. She adored it. She loved hearing you ramble on about a topic or watching your face as you do your magic on her, your tongue slightly peeking out at times when you were deeply concentrated.
She knew that you had feelings for her, and couldn't help but realize that she felt the same. The medium always presented herself a certain way and she always liked to choose what makeup looks she wanted you to create on her, but when she started to develop serious feelings for you, she couldn't help but be curious about what you would like to see on her, so she decided that she wanted you to take the reins today. You were the professional, after all.
You shot her a questioning glance, "Are you sure?" a slight tone of disbelief threading through your question.
The medium gave you a wicked smile, "Of course I'm sure, sweet pea. I've never really asked you to do something on me that wasn't my choice, so I'm curious to see what you come up with." You nodded as you turned to observe the products laid out on the vanity, mind racing at all of the possible combinations you could do.
A wicked smile formed on your face, "You know..." you started as you began to pick up different products, "I could decide to do something absolutely crazy like...neon green lipstick or bright pink eyeshadow. You do realize what you're requesting, right?" You teased, turning to find a wide smirk on the medium’s face. "Yeah and let Vogue and the rest of the internet see me like that? You wouldn't live to see the end of the day, my darling," She played back, but you didn't doubt that she'd be seriously upset with you if you actually did that. "But maybe some other day..." she added, turning to look at her reflection for a second. "You know I would never do that to you, though. I'm gonna make sure you look gorgeous as you always do," you smiled, and dear you, you thought you may have seen a small blush appear across her cheeks at your words.
After her base and eyebrows were done, you decided to move on to eyeshadow. You had planned a simple eyeshadow look that you hoped that she would approve of. You chose a dusty rose pink eyeshadow—subtle enough to where it wouldn't be too different from what she was accustomed to; She usually picked out neutral tones like brown and beige for her eye looks, so you chose something a bit different today.
Since you knew it would be difficult to do her eye makeup from your position, you pulled over the second stool that was on the other side so you would be eye-level with her. You dipped your brush in the rose color and softly uttered for her to close her eyes. You began to blend the color on her eyes, but your next move was very unexpected—your free hand came to rest gently against her throat. You did it unconsciously, as you often found yourself always wondering what to do with your non-dominant hand while the other hand made soft brush strokes against her alabaster skin.
Billie didn't react to the motion, but internally, she could feel the slight turn in her lower abdomen and the butterflies fluttering in her stomach. A small smirk appeared on her face as she realized that you more than likely haven’t noticed where your hand was resting. You were so focused on blending that you failed to realize where your other hand had gone to rest, but when you felt the warmth radiating off of the medium's neck from under your hand, your eyes almost blew out of your skull. One word flowed through your mind as you came to your senses:
S H I T
You gasped, quickly drawing your left hand from her neck, not entirely knowing where to put it so you opted to plant it softly on her shoulder. God, why didn’t you put it there in the first place, you idiot?
"I-I’m so sorry, Billie. I'm sorry if that made you uncomfortable..." you mumbled through nervous chuckles, trying hard not to scream or cry from embarrassment as you looked down to the hand that was on her shoulder.
One thing was for sure, you never knew what to expect with Billie.
Billie simply smiled as she opened her eyes, knowing exactly what she was going to say next. "No need to apologize, sweetheart. I quite liked your hand around my throat."
Your body froze and your cheeks went crimson. You did not expect her reply to be so blunt. You could feel your lower stomach start to twist and turn as her words replayed over and over in your mind.
She noticed the flush on your cheeks and neck, a cheeky smile making its way onto her face at your flustered state.
“My, my, such a shy little thing,” she whispered teasingly. Her words made you laugh incredulously, and then you moved to place your head in your hands to hide the ever-growing redness of your skin and the smile on your lips.
I can’t wait any longer, the medium thought, do it now, god, tell her now
The medium reached over and grasped your hands, pulling them away from your face and intertwining them in her lap, "I'm sorry if that was a little bit too forward, darling,” a pause, “but I just couldn’t miss the opportunity,” she hummed, smirking. You stayed silent; It seemed like she had more to say, so you stayed silent. She gazed into your eyes, finding the small glint that appeared as she made eye contact with you.
“I’m going to say this, and I hope I’m not making a mistake,” you clutched her hands a bit tighter, was she about to fire you? Oh god, oh no, what have you done?
“I can't deny the fact that I have feelings for you any longer...I hope I've been reading this right and that you feel the same, darling,"
You let out a big huff of air as you looked down at your lap, feeling like the world had been lifted from your shoulders. You lifted your head to look at Billie's expectant gaze, giving her a nod before speaking, "I do feel the same, Billie...I have since...” you shook your head, smiling, “since the moment I met you,"
While you confessed, Billie pulled you closer to her while the most lovely smile adorned her face. Your words made the medium feel giddy inside; She hadn’t felt this way towards someone in a long time; Her relations had been exclusively for sex—for the most part—in recent years, but this felt undeniably different. She wanted you to be hers, entirely.
She looked over to the mirror to her reflection and you followed her gaze, she noticed the soft pink color on her eyelids. "Wow, y/n...I love it. You know just how to make a gal feel pretty" she paused, looking over to you, "but I think you're forgetting something..." she said, making your eyebrows draw together in confusion. She pointed to her lips, indicating that you forgot to put on her lipstick. "Oh I'm sorry, I got a bit distracted" you laughed, turning around to pick out from your collection of lipsticks, but before you could, Billie put her hand on your arm to get your attention.
"Nuh-uh, sweet thing, I meant come here and give me some sugar first," she said in a sultry tone, a small smirk on her face as she pulled you back to her, her hands landed on your waist and you both leaned in and crashed your lips together, planting a series of soft and tender kisses on each other's lips.
A/N: I know this probably isn’t the best so pls give me constructive criticism on my writing if u want to:) Also, if anyone has any requests of something/someone you want me to write for, just send me an ask:))

“Baby, come on,” your girlfriend whined, wrapping her arms around your waist and placing her lips against your neck. You giggled at her antics, shushing her quietly; “I’m almost done, love.” you replied, finishing up your college essay. You’d been working on it for a few hours and you could understand why the woman was sick of the wait. But you really were almost done, you were sure.
But Billie Dean Howard was having none of it. So she simply leaned on the back of your chair, brushing your long/short hair away from your neck and placing soft, barely there kisses on your skin. You shivered involuntarily, not wanting to give in to the medium again because you really needed to finish this work, but the feeling of her lips was just really hard to resist. Alas, you managed, somehow, to stay mostly focused.
A few minutes went by, Billie Dean continuing her actions, insistent that you finish and give her attention. For a grown woman she could be quite needy sometimes. But that was something you loved about the woman, how affectionate she was, no matter what. With one last huff, you typed your name out on the first page of your paper and saved the document before closing it and almost slamming your laptop screen shut. You heard Billie Dean sigh when you pushed your chair backwards, forcing her off of your neck, only to guide her around and into your lap.
It wasn’t often that she was the one on you, so this was a rare moment. But you smiled, snaking your arms around her waist to hold her close to you as she nuzzled her face into your neck. She was a top in all ways of the word, but she was just as cuddly as the next person. Another thing you adored about the medium. Eventually she pulled back so she could look into your eyes, her own shining. You smiled a bit wider and with a tiny noise she pushed her lips to yours, the kiss soft and gentle, not rushed at all. It was passionate, but languid and easy.
These were your favorite times; when you could just relax and lose yourself in Billie Dean’s existence, her presence, just...her. The woman’s arms came up to rest at your shoulders, running her fingers through the hair at the base of your neck casually. When the two of you finally separated, Billie Dean pressed her forehead to yours and sighed contently, you doing the same. Neither of you said a word, each happy enough to just be with the other. When words finally were spoken, it was you to say them; “I love you,” you mumbled, opening your eyes slightly to look into Billie’s. She smiled fondly and replied “I love you too, darling. So much. More than you know.”
At her affectionate words you sniffed, pulling her even closer and kissing her quickly again, pulling away just as fast with a giggle as the woman pouted. “Now come on, get off of me. I want cuddles, and this chair isn’t comfortable.” Billie’s pout turned into a smile and she quickly got off of your lap, pulling you up with her and practically dragging you, both of you giggling all the way, into your bedroom. Yes, this was the way you wanted to spend your life, you were sure of it.

Billie Dean Howard strutted into The Hotel Cortez with her usual level of flair and confidence, both of which she feigned tentatively. In one hand, she gripped a small overnight bag tightly in hopes that no one or nothing taking residence in this god-forsaken place would notice the slight tremble. Of course, she would never admit it out loud, but the blonde was apprehensive about visiting the famed residence. The rumors and warnings that surrounded the place had gotten to her head.
This was not the first Hellmouth that Billie Dean had been to, having visited another close by many times. Despite this, the minute that she walked in, she could feel the difference. The very air in this building was different. Somehow it was much more suffocating than the haunted Los Angeles home she regularly frequented. The whispers in the walls became louder with each step that she took, evidence of the many who had met their unfortunate end here.
The hotel manager had requested the famed medium’s talents on behalf of her dear friend. Iris had been working with Liz Taylor since the death of her son in ninety-four. As the years went by and guests came and went (and died), the two of them stayed working together. Then Liz, by some miracle, met the love of her life in this hellhole. But, sadly, their bliss was short-lived. The hotel’s fate tragically struck, and before they had a chance to be together, he was killed.
Iris was standing behind the front desk when Billie Dean walked up, her heels clicking across the uncarpeted strip of the lobby floor. That sound caused the shorter woman to look up from behind the thick frames of her glasses. The moment she recognized who the new guest was, Iris perked up, quickly moving to greet the well-manicured blonde.
“Miss. Howard,” The appreciative manager greeted her as the two women shook hands. “I am truly grateful that you came out. Liz is a close personal friend of mine, and you may be the only person who can be of any help.”
“Of course. I can’t promise anything, but we’ll see what I can do.” This was a typical confident response for Billie, yet this time she was unsure if she would be able to do anything to help. The darkness felt as if it was leaking from the cracks in the walls. As if death itself had been built into the bones of the building. It would be difficult hearing any single spirit in a place filled with so much grief.
There was a large part of her that desperately wanted to turn and run, a part rooted in logic and reasoning. Yet something else drew her in, demanded that she stay. It wasn’t curiosity that kept the medium from turning on her heels, nor was it greed. Instead, it was a feeling in her chest, almost as if she was meant to be there.
“I believe Liz is off any moment now; if it’s okay with you, I could bring her by your room after you get settled.” The hotel manager turned to grab a key, making sure it belonged to a room on one of the hotel’s ‘safer’ floors. This woman was doing them a favor; the least Iris could do was keep some of the less friendly residents like Sally and March off her back.
Billie agreed to this, eager to take a moment to try to relax. She took the room key from Iris before making her way over towards the elevator. The ride up was quick, and the blonde remained stiff until she made her way down the hallway. Once she was in the safety of her recently remodeled room, Billie Dean leaned back against the door. She ran her hands gently through her curls as she let out a shaky breath, taking a moment to compose herself before looking around the room.
The hotel had recently undergone a massive remodel earlier this year since the ownership of the Cortez had been transferred over to Iris and Liz Taylor. The two women had spent the last few years renovating the haunted old rooms, but a fresh coat of paint and some new linens were not enough to cover the feeling of death that seeped from the walls. The only way to rid this property of the evil rooted in it would be to tear it down, but the residents would never allow that.
Billie Dean Howard pushed herself off the door before slinking her black purse over the back of the desk chair. As she settled down in the white armchair in the corner of the room, the celebrity pulled out her phone. She checked the missed messages from her management team before sifting through some emails from various potential clients. People reached out to the medium from all over the states, requesting that she help them get in touch with their lost ones. Both Billie and her assistant’s emails were filled with requests, with more piling in every day.
It couldn’t have been more than an hour later that a conversation could be heard down the hall. She was pulled from her thoughts, which were stuck on a message she received from a young woman in Orlando. The woman lost her daughter in a fire, one her ex-husband intentionally had started. It was not often that the sad stories got to her, but this one did, striking a chord in the blonde. She felt inclined to help and forwarded the email to her assistant to reach out and schedule a meeting.
Iris swung the door to her hotel room open, letting a taller woman in a red dress walk in first. The blonde got up from the armchair before gracefully moving to greet the two colleagues, with a charismatic smile dancing on her lips. “Billie Dean Howard, this is Liz.”
Tumblr media
The medium was feeling despondent after the attempt to contact Tristan Duffy. Yes, she was fortunate that she got to give a message to Iris from her son, but she did nothing to ease the pain evident in Liz Taylor’s heart. Was that not the reason she drove down here? It felt like a defeat in this hellacious place.
The decision to make her way to the Blue Parrot Lounge for a drink came quickly at this point in the night. Nothing could soothe Billie Dean’s soul like a cigarette and a whisky on ice could. She grabbed her purse, singing it over her shoulder before leaving the hotel room. As she made her way down to the bar on the second floor, Billie went over her schedule mentally. She was eager to leave this literal Hellmouth, simply being inside this building took a toll on the spiritualist.
The Blue Parrot Lounge was almost empty, except for the familiar bartender perched behind the counter and You. The moment she saw you, she found it impossible to pull her eyes away. You were sitting on one of the barstools towards the end, hunched over a glass. The medium instantly could sense that you were one of the dead that resided in The Cortez. Yet somehow, you were different from any of the other spirits here. You had a lighter and more mesmerizing energy, one that drew Billie’s immediate attention.
The blonde boldly made her way to sit by you, stopping one stool down so that she was still leaving a respectable distance. The medium did not know your story and figured it was better not to push her luck by coming on too strong. Liz pushed off from the back of the counter where she was drying glasses to walk over and get Billie Dean’s order, watching as the celebrity studied you.
You noticed her the moment she walked in. It would have been impossible for you not to. The older woman was captivating, with gorgeous blonde hair and full pink lips. The dusty pink blouse she wore was framed perfectly by her pearl necklace. She ordered a whisky on the rocks, her voice somehow soft yet smokey. You kept your eyes trained on your drink, taking occasional sips as you pretended not to examine the woman next to you. She was unlike anyone you had seen before.
Billie’s heart raced as she waited for her drink, trying to think of what she could say to you. Striking up conversations with spirits could be difficult sometimes, and the last thing that she wanted to do was scare you off. To ease the tremor in her hand, the woman pulled out her lucky fabric cigarette case, slipping one between soft pink lips before fishing in her purse for her lighter. Before she got the chance to find what she was searching for, you gently slid your zippo across the bar top.
“Thank you,” The older woman replied, her pink acrylic nails wrapping around the cold steel. The sight of her sitting there, a cigarette elegantly placed between two perfect painted lips, was enough to make anyone fall in love. It was silent for a moment as she exhaled, the smoke dissipating from the air as she took a sip out of her glass.
“I’m Billie Dean Howard Darling,” The brown-eyed woman introduced herself, a charming smile dancing playfully on her face as she reached out her perfectly manicured hand. “Medium-To-The-Stars.”
You shook her hand hesitantly at first, soon enjoying the way the warmth of her living body felt on your skin. Everything was always cold now; it had been since the night that you were killed. So you never expected that someone could feel so warm, so full of life. It made you never want to let go of Billie’s hand, yet you did before she could notice you lingering. You were unaware that the famous blonde was in the same position, finding herself irrevocably entranced by you.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you (Y/N),” There was something about the way that Billie Dean said your name that sent chills down your spine. It was as if it was the most beautiful thing she had ever heard. It very well might have been the most beautiful thing you ever heard.
The two of you sat together for hours, sharing drinks as the medium told you stories of her adventurous career. You loved listening to her, loved the way the excitement glistened in her eyes as she talked about the spirits she had met. Watching her light up was the closest you felt to living in a long time, and it was bitter-sweet.
It was somehow as if she sensed the shift in your mood the moment it happened. As if she could tell the moment that you started thinking about your own death. It was something that generally you tried not to dwell on since there was nothing anyone could do. Yet, despite this, when you thought far enough back in time to that unlucky night, you never failed to feel a pain in your chest.
“What happened to you,” It slipped out before Billie could control herself, her curiosity getting the better of her. She tried to buffer her statement, giving you an easy out if you were uncomfortable sharing with her. “If it’s not too personal a story for you to share. I understand that it might be traumatic.”
You couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped. Mortals and their morality, their delicacy especially dealing with ‘sensitive’ topics. It was something you did not understand even when you were alive. Your history may still cause a slight ache in your chest, but you always had been an open book.
“I was one of the first guests to become trapped here after the owner, James March’s curse took hold of this property. It was the seventies, and everything was very different back then.” You reminisced, thinking back on the life you had lived many years ago.
“You were born in the seventies,” Billie said with a hint of disbelief in her voice. Theoretically speaking, you could not have been born more than a few more years before her, yet here you sat, looking so much younger. The thought made you chuckle, pausing for a minute.
“Technically, I was born in nineteen sixty. Though it was seventy-eight when I came to Los Angeles.” You began to tell the story of your passing. It was one quite similar to many of the others who died at The Cortez. “I knew some friends in the city, and so I came to visit. I figured that I would get a cheap hotel room instead of staying the night in one of their dorms, which quickly became the worst decision that I had ever made. I found myself trapped in a hallway while March axed me to death for sport.”
“I am sorry that happened to you,” The blonde’s hand instinctually went to yours as she comforted you, and the second that she realized it, anxiety started to spread through her. Before she could pull away, you ran your thumb gently against her, soothing any doubts that the older woman might have had. You hummed softly in acknowledgment, letting her shift the conversation in a different direction.
“I was thinking about doing an episode of my new Lifetime Special here, in this hotel.” This statement quickly drew your attention out of your head and back to the beautiful woman sitting next to you. Fear rushed through your body, instantly turning you to ice.
“Don’t.” Your voice was stern and clear, yet Billie could detect the slightest waver in it. She quickly went to protest, but the look in your eye itself was a clear enough warning. This hotel, and the horrors that it held, did not want to be exposed. It would fight back if she tried, and her white spirit light would not be enough to help protect her against it. You were trying to look out for her.
“Okay,” Billie Dean nodded softly in agreement, taking a sip of her glass of whisky as she contemplated the implications of what you said. Yes, there was no money to be made here, which in a sense meant there was no reason to stay. Except, of course, to get to know you. The mysterious and charming spirit that she met not much earlier in the night yet found herself enamored with.
There was something about you that was different from the others who died, and as a result, became trapped inside The Cortez. Something different from any of the ghosts that she had encountered in her past. The very air around you felt sweeter, more comforting than anything she had felt before.
“(Y/N), I need your help. You’re the only one besides March who Ms.Evers will listen to.” Before Billie had the chance to change the topic to something lighter, she was interrupted by Liz Taylor. The tall woman was rounding the bar counter with an exasperated look plastered on her face.
“What’s happening this time,” You shook your head with a chuckle. It was an old hotel, and things tended to break almost every week. On top of that, Liz was right that besides the man she had loyally served for years, you were the only one who Hazel Evers listened to. So many of the permanent residents here did not get along, but somehow you always managed to mediate the situations.
“Those two Swedish meatballs broke the washer, and now they are all screaming at each other in the laundry room. Just do what you do and fix it.” The bartender waved you away, not giving you any room to argue. If you had it your way, you would have never gotten up from the seat next to Billie, yet there was work to be done.
“Hopefully I will see you around,” Billie jested flirtatiously as you got up from your stool. Of course, the last thing she wanted was for you to leave, but it was clear that neither of you had a choice in the matter.
“I’ll be here,” You retorted with a dazzling smile before turning to walk off. It was like she could feel a shift in the atmosphere the moment you left the room. Like the darkness was starting to creep in again. Yet, somehow when you were next to her, you kept it at bay. It made her wish for you to return even more, but all she could do was take a sip of her whisky and hope you would return soon.
“They’re different, aren’t they?” Finally, Liz Taylor spoke after nearly twenty minutes, breaking the silence between the two women. The brown-eyed woman knew immediately that the hotel owner was talking about you. “I could tell that they were different when I first came to The Cortez. That they were not like any of the other souls that had died and became trapped inside this building.”
The bartender started fixing Billie Dean another whisky as she continued to speak. “This place can get intense sometimes; the people can get volatile. (Y/N) can always talk sense into them. Into all of them. It can be fascinating to watch.” The thought made the medium’s heart warm, and as the hotel owner proceeded to talk, she found herself becoming more entranced by you.
Tumblr media
As you sat in your room later that night, you went over every interaction you had with the famous medium earlier, from the way that she called you darling to the feeling of her soft hand on yours. She made your heart race, even hours later. When you first finished settling the debate between Ms. Evers and Vendela, you went back for her, but the blonde was no longer at the bar. You were pulled from your thoughts by a scream in the hallway. It didn’t take more than a second for you to jolt up and out the door.
You made your way towards the source of the commotion, ready to yell at whoever it was to be quieter. That’s when you noticed Sally McKenna leaning against the hallway wall while her addiction demon backed Billie Dean Howard into a corner. Even in this state, disheveled and terrified, the brown-eyed woman was still breathtaking. So much so that it took a second for you to process what was long on and speak up.
When the addiction demon noticed you, it disappeared, leaving you standing in the hallway with a scared Billie and a bored-looking Sally. The shorter-haired woman rolled her eyes at the intrusion first before assuming the place that her ‘pet’ had been standing. She gripped the medium you had grown fond of tightly, eager to take her target somewhere to kill her. The sight made you growl, anger tearing through your chest.
“Let her go.” It was the second time that night that the older woman had heard that rougher tone in your voice. The one that left no room to argue, even for the dark spirits who were tormenting her. As Liz had said earlier, you were a voice of reason in this hotel.
“We can’t let her expose our home. Did you hear she wants to film a show inside The Cortez,” You could see the pout starting to form on Sally’s face as she realized that you would not budge. Her attempts to change your mind were in vain. The junkie hated when anyone interrupted her during one of her kills, but she knew her place as well. Crossing you would not be an smart decision.
“She won’t. I already talked to her; she will not be filming anything about this place.” You retorted, leaving no room for debate with your subsequent instructions. The other residents in the hotel got a kick out of tormenting mortals, and typically if they kept it quiet enough, you would let it slide, but that wouldn’t stand in regards to Miss. Howard. She was different, and if anyone touched her, you would make their hell so much worse. “Now go find somebody else to haunt.”
Sally huffed, rolling her eyes one last time before taking her hands off of Billie. Then the junkie muttered something that sounded like ‘you owe me’ under her breath before disappearing as well. You quickly made your way over to Billie, grateful that she was not hurt in any way.
“Thank you for saving me-,” Billie started, but you turned to waved her off before she could continue. If you were still alive, you would have let out a sigh of relief, just grateful that you got here on time. That you made it before she had the choice taken from her as well, before she got trapped in this hellhole forever.
“Don’t mention it” You had a gentle smile on your face and a soft look in your eyes as you stared back at her. Billie Dean took a few steps forward, not stopping till she stood only a foot or two in front of you.
“I mean it, Sweetheart. I really do appreciate you,” The woman practically purred. Her normally caramel-colored eyes darkened, dipping into shades of black as she glanced down at your lips. The air between you two crackled with electricity, the tension growing with each passing second.
Before you knew it, she had you pressed against her door, her lips only inches from your face. Billie studied you carefully, watching for any sign of discomfort. Your eyes darted down to her delicate lips as you moved in to close the gap. The blonde brought her hand up to caress your cheek gently.
Billie Dean knew the minute that she kissed you that she never would be able to walk away again. A belief that was reinforced the moment that her lips feverously moved to claim yours. It was clear to her now that she would never truly be able to move on from this place. Not because of the dark gravity that the hotel held, but because she was fated to meet you.
The feeling of her skin against yours was hypnotic beyond reason, and when the alluring blonde let out a moan, it sent a rush straight to your core. It was almost enough to make your knees give in, grateful that she was helping support you against the door. The taller woman reached behind you and opened the door before carefully pushing you back into her room. Billie Dean Howard reached back to lock the door before stalking towards you, with a lustful glisten in her eyes. The sight itself was enough to drive you wild.
“Let me show you exactly how much.”

Here’s another archived post from the olden days.
-
Nora Elizabeth Collins, soon to be Montgomery, is a princess and in a few short days, Nora is going to marry Charles Montgomery, a shallow no good piece of scum. At least that's how Nora puts it. Nora hates the fact that she has no say in her marriage. Her parents love Charles. To them, whatever he lacks in personality and compassion he makes up in wealth.
Nora sighs and closes her book she's reading, not even bothering to mark her place. She sets her book down as she hears someone knock on her door.
"Nora?" Someone calls with a familiar lisp that Nora loves and finds adorable.
"Come in Billie," Nora says and gets up.
Once the servant enters, Nora immediately runs into the woman’s arms. She cries into Billie's shoulder and Billie rubs her back soothingly.
"What's wrong, love?"
"I don't want to marry Charles!" Nora sobs into Billie's shoulder.
"You won't have to. We'll figure something out,” Billie says calmly reassuring the woman in her arms, “We always do."
"How can you be so sure?" The princess asks slightly looking up at Billie.
"Because I love you that's how," Billie says and kisses Nora's cheek.
They stand there in silence just holding each other. After a few minutes, Billie breaks the silence.
"I should probably get back. Constance will probably be getting impatient." Billie says and sighs.
"No, please stay!" Nora exclaims holding onto Billie tighter.
"She's my boss, Nora."
"And I'm her boss. If she has a problem with you she can't talk to me about it." Nora says and Billie smiles slightly.
"Ok, but we should probably head to bed, it's getting late.”
Nora nods.
Billie leads Nora to her dresser and starts her usual process of undressing her, beginning with untying the lacing of her dress. After the lengthy process of undressing the princess is finished, Billie kisses up and down Nora's fully exposed neck and shoulders.
"Which nightgown would you like, my lady?" Billie asks in between softly placed kisses that cause Nora to shiver.
"How about none," Nora responds with a smirk, turning around to face Billie.
Billie bites her bottom lip at the idea of what Nora is implying before asking, "Are you sure?"
"Mhm," the princess hums nodding.
Billie smiles and kisses Nora. They stumble back to Nora's bed and the night is filled with love and passion.
The next morning, Billie and Nora lay in bed asleep in each other's arms when there's a knock on the door.
"Nora!" The princess's mother screeches in her annoying voice as she pounds on the door again..
"Nora, wake up and let me in!"
After a few more minutes of knocking she finally just walks on into her daughter's room.
"Nora Elizabeth Collins!" Her mother screams at the site of her daughter in bed with one of the servant girls.
Nora and Billie’s eyes shoot open. Billie immediately grabs the blanket in an attempt to cover themselves from the terrifying gaze of Nora's mother.
"Mother, what are you doing here?" Nora exclaims moving impossibly closer to Billie.
"That doesn't matter! What are you doing with a lowly servant girl?" Her mother exclaims with her eyes shooting daggers at Billie Dean.
"I love her mother and you can't stop me from being with her," Nora says holding on to Billie tightly as Billie bites her bottom lip nervously.
"I don't care! I want her out of here by the time I come back here to take you to breakfast with Charles!" Her mother exclaims before storming out of the room.
"Nora, dear, I'm so sorry!" Billie exclaims as she tries to get up from the bed, but Nora grabs her arm.
"Billie, run away with me," Nora says looking into Billie's eyes.
"Are you sure?"
"I've never been more sure of anything in my life. I love you." Nora says and kisses Billie.
"Let's do it." Billie says once they break apart with her forehead resting against Nora’s.

Billie Dean x Reader.
Tumblr media
I hope this does you all justice. I’m very sorry if it’s not up to a high standard I had to keep stopping to answer buzzers at work. Thank you for even giving me a chance, please leave any feedback whether it be good or bad.
Prompt: “I don’t know why I’m crying.”
You walked into the bar ready for your first shift of the weekend, the smell of whiskey and cigarettes hitting your nostrils the minute you walked through the door. The sound of customers laughing and joking ringing through your ears whilst the faint sound of the jukebox played in the background and they sang and danced happily together. “Shit,” you cursed to yourself, you were praying for an easy night but it didn’t look as if you were going to get one. You quickly made your way to the cloakroom avoiding everyone’s gaze, too scared to make eye contact in case the tears threatened to leave your eyes. Taking a few deep breaths to compose yourself, you but on your best “how can I help you today?” smile and mentally prepared to walk out to the bar, until the ding of your phone distracted you.
“Y/N please talk to me, I don’t want it to end like this.”
You couldn’t do this now, you needed this job and you wouldn’t let your ex get in the way of your night. Quickly wiping your eyes with the back of your hand, you composed yourself and walked out, face posed as if you hadn’t just had your heart broken into a million pieces by the love of your life.
The night went slow, each man who came to order a drink and told you to smile more made it feel harder and harder for you to stay put. You were just about to grab your things and leave until you heard a soft, husky voice grab your attention.
“Excuse me Miss? I’ll have a whiskey if it’s not too much trouble?”
Your breath hitched in your throat as you turned and laid eyes on the most gorgeous woman you had ever seen. Her soft, blonde curls hanging perfectly around her face, her warm brown eyes drawing you in. Her perfect pink lips curved in a smirk as she watched you stutter and stumble over your words as you remembered where you were.
“Yep, coming right up.”
You could feel her eyes on you as you made her drink, you tried your hardest not to shake as you poured the contents into the glass and slide it over to her.
“Thanks. You’re a doll.” She smiled at you, her perfect white teeth peaking through for only a second before she took a sip. You stood there, feeling jealous of the glass she had pursed between her lips.
“I’m Billie. Billie Dean Howard, and you are?”
Shit. You knew you recognised her from somewhere. She’s THE Billie Dean Howard, the medium from the show you watched late at night with.. fuck. You couldn’t think about her now, but you couldn’t help it and before you knew it the tears were spilling from your eyes and you watched as she reached across the bar to stroke your forearm.
“Hey now,” she cooed. “I didn’t mean to upset you.” She frowned and bit her lip slightly. “Are you okay?”
You tried to speak but no words would form, your mouth felt like someone had poured cement into it, all you could do was shake your head and attempt to hide away in your hands.
“Y/N?” You heard your manager call. “I think it’s time for you to take your break.” You offered her a weak smile and thanked her silently before turning your attention back to Billie, who offered you a soft smile and patted the empty seat next to her.
Before you knew it you were opening up to her like you’d known her your whole life. You told her how you’d been working your ass off to pay for a home for you and your girlfriend that you could barely afford, how you had to take up an extra job at the bar just to get by, and how tonight you had walked in from your shift at the hospital to find her face buried between another woman’s legs.
Billie sat with you and listened intently, every now and again offering you a soft rub on the back or resting her hand on your knee, you tried so hard to ignore the sparks of electricity coursing through your body every time she touched you or met your eyes, but you couldn’t. There’s was something about her that was pulling you in deeper and deeper. You’d only known her five minutes and here you were, telling her your life story like you could trust her with your life, but deep down you knew that you could.
“I don’t even know why I’m crying.” You sighed, “I knew this was coming. I expected it, I always had a feeling there was something going on. I just tried so hard to ignore it because I was so desperate to be with her. I’m so stupid!” You dropped your head into your hands and sobbed again.
“Hey,” she began to pull your hands away from your face and held them in her own. She looked you dead in the eye as she continued, “you are not stupid. You were in love, and you’ve had your heartbroken in the most terrible way possible. You’re not stupid for giving your all to the person you believed loved you back. Trust me, I know.” She moved closer to you and you could smell her perfume. “You will find someone who showers you with the same love and affection you give to them. You’re not stupid, doll. Please don’t ever put yourself down like that again.”
You sniffed in response, offering her a smile which she gratefully returned. You didn’t know what came over you as you leant forward and kissed her on the lips. You began to panic as you had realised what you’d done and began to pull back until you felt Billie rest her hands on the side of your face, holding you there. You both pulled away, breathless from the intensity of the kiss.
“I-I’m so sorry Miss Howard,” you began. “I don’t know what came over me I-“ she cut you off again with another kiss and you felt the electricity run through your body once again.
“Don’t apologise Y/N. I’m glad to be of help.” She laughed, “now how about finishing up your shift and we go back to my place for a drink. Only if you feel comfortable?” She offered.
“I’d like that very much.” You replied, hopping off the bar stool and walking back behind the bar, ignoring the word whistles of your colleagues as you returned to serving the next customer.

Irresistible // A Billie Dean Howard imagine
Valentine's Request 11/?
REQUEST: Billie Dean Howard x f!Reader where Billie catches reader staring at her ass please? - @taciales
“You just can't even help yourself can you?” Billie Dean asked, breaking you from your thoughts.Your eyes snapped up to meet hers, your cup of coffee and plate of breakfast had been long forgotten as she went about getting ready for her day.
“How can I?” You asked, a teasing tone in your voice as you watched her wander around the kitchen of your shared home. “You know this dress is my favorite.” You always thought blue and white looked heavenly on her, but there was just something about how this dress framed her that made her completely irresistible.
“Then why does it feel like you're imagining it's in the floor by the bed?” She asked rhetorically, tapping her chin in a mocking manner.
“Because that's exactly where I like it best.”
“Oh yeah? What if I were to say I wanted to leave it somewhere else?” You laughed, asked what in the world she was talking about. She held eye contact as she reached to the side and pulled the zipper so the dress fell loose, making a show of pushing it down her hips. “Like maybe… The kitchen floor?” She let the fabric fall to her feet, stepping out of the circle of it. Your mouth was suddenly dry, full attention on her and the lacy black underwear set she had on. She tilted her head to the side, bringing her hand up the to string of pearls around her neck, staring at you with that look in her eyes that made you weak.
“I think I like this idea.” You answered as she stepped closer, her pink acrylic nails dragging across the marble countertop.
“You're going to be late.” Faux concern laced her voice as she ran her hands up your thighs towards your core, your thighs felt electric under her touch. She stepped back as you leaned in. She took a seat in one of the island's chairs and spread her legs. “But if you don't mind, baby girl, then I don't either.”

Tumblr media
The time was finally here. Billie Dean was returning from yet another stint filming across the country. She’d been gone for a month and a half and was finally getting a break to come back to her quiet home on the coast of california. As much as she loved her show and career, it was always hard being away from her own space while filming. She loved her bed. She loved her sheets. She loved her coffee maker and many more appliances. They were hers and it was always a struggle to leave to film for such a long time knowing she’d be tied up in a hotel or rental for the time, without her own things. This trip was probably the hardest to make though. She’d been on a bit of a hiatus and had spent her time resting, recharging, and even doing some smaller consults with people who contacted her. But in the midst of her break she met a woman. It was through one of her first consultations during the break. The woman’s best friend had written to Billie detailing this extremely sad story about how she'd been left to care for her daughter alone after her partner died years ago. The woman had explained to her friend that her daughter had been ‘talking to’ her mom recently and she was concerned there was something going on. The friend’s letter went into countless occurrences that the woman had found her daughter looking off behind her or laughing alone in her room. Billie wasn’t sure what it was about the letter, but she followed up with the friend and set up an appointment to meet with all three of them.
Billie pulled into the apartment complex and looked herself over briefly before heading toward the building. She wasn’t sure what to expect. She hardly worked with children and never in an instance like this. She’s normally the only one who can see the spirits, but she’s often heard that spirits appear to children much easier than an adult. Kids haven’t been dulled by reality and their minds were open to those experiences. Obviously with imaginary friends and stuff, it’s not uncommon for kids to talk to themselves but from what she’s heard this was different.
She arrived at the apartment and knocked lightly and waited patiently. She heard some shuffling on the otherside of the door and looked toward the peephole with a smile. The door creaked open slowly and her eyes fell on a beautiful woman with a toddler on her hip. “Hi Ms. Howard.” The woman spoke softly, stepping aside to let her inside.
“Hello dear, you must be Y/n?” Billie asked as she took a step inside the apartment and turned toward the woman while she closed the door. Y/n nodded softly and adjusted the little girl on her hip protectively before leading her into the living room area.
“Yes, I am Y/n and this is my daughter Florence.” Y/n said, looking down toward the little girl who gazed at Billie shyly. Billie smiled warmly and waved at the little girl before turning her attention back to her mother. “I’m not sure what Mallory told you, but I really appreciate you taking the time to come help us.”
Billie smiled again, “I hope I can be of some service. I must admit I’ve never been in this situation before, but I’m more than willing to help where I can. Mallory told me a bit in her letter, but why don’t you tell me what’s been going on and we can start from there?”
The woman nodded before going into a retelling of the events that have been taking place over the last few months. “Flo had always been a good baby, she never really cried at night. Or if she started crying, by the time I got to her she was already gurgling and smiling up at me from her crib. I never really thought much of spirits or anything until recently. She’s turning 5 in two months and she’ll be starting school soon. I don’t know if I should be worrying and warning her teachers about this or something but when I told Mallory she contacted you. Like I said, I didn’t really think much of any of her behavior because kids have imaginary friends and all of that. But I asked Flo what her imaginary friend’s name was a few months ago after I found her in her room talking and laughing alone. And that’s where it all got a bit much.” Billie nodded along attentively as the woman rambled a bit before pausing to take a deep breath. She’d let her daughter play on the floor quietly, completely oblivious to the conversation happening overhead.
“She said her friend’s name is Dawn. And that Dawn has been her friend since she was a baby in my tummy. And if you havent guess by now, Dawn is the name of my late wife. She died while I was pregnant with her so she never met her. Which only worried me more. I don’t know if this is relevant but Dawn didn’t die here. After she passed, I moved as far as possible and that brought me here to California. I don’t really know a lot about spirits so I’m kinda at a loss right now.” She finished finally meeting Billie Dean’s gaze.
“Well from that and what Mallory wrote to me, I think I have an idea of what might be going on. But I do want to try something first just to make sure.” Billie says, causing the woman to nod. Billie stood and moved around the room slowly. She watched as the toddler continued to play in the room when her head suddenly turned in Billie’s direction. The girl grinned and started walking over to the medium. Her eyes seemed to be focused behind Billie and so she turned around and finally caught the eyes of the woman only she and Florence could see.
“You can see me?” The blonde asked as her eyes met Billie’s. Billie nodded before turning her attention to Y/n briefly. “Can she see me?” Dawn asked gazing longingly at Y/n.
“No she can’t. But I’m here to help you both, if you’re willing to talk to me. Anything you have to say to her, I will tell her.” Bllie explained calmly before moving to sit back on the couch as she watched Dawn lead Florence into the floor to play.
“What’s going on?” Y/n asked, watching Billie gaze over Florence’s head.
“Dawn is here right now.” Billie calmly states. She turns her head briefly to make eye contact with Y/n and to confirm that she is okay with the situation. She sees the fear and sadness swell in Y/n’s eyes, but she never sees the doubt she normally sees in people’s eyes.
“What is she saying?” Y/n asked, looking between Billie and the empty air around her daughter.
“She says she’s sorry for leaving you alone. Even if it was out of her control, she’s still sorry it happened so suddenly.” Billie speaks, causing Y/n’s shoulders to sag. “She says, her love for you has never faded. And that she’s so proud of the woman you are today. She also says she knows you won’t openly state your skepticism with all of this so she says to ask me something only she would know.” Billie finally says gazing back over to Y/n.
The woman thought for a second before looking back at the medium, “What was my favorite movie to watch early on in my pregnancy?”
Billie turned back to Dawn looking at her expectantly and the spirit smiled softly before saying, “Lady and the Tramp.” Billie looked at Y/n and repeated the movie and it all seemed to hit Y/n like a tidal wave of emotion. The tears sprang to her eyes and she felt herself breathing a bit deeper than normal.
Billie wasn’t sure what to do or say at this moment and just slid closer to the young woman placing her hand over hers in comfort. Dawn watched carefully as her wife unravelled after years of burying her emotions. It was what Y/n needed and although she wasn’t there to comfort her she knew it had to happen. Y/n attempts to compose herself before turning her attention back to Billie with a grateful smile.
Billie looks to Dawn and listens as she continues to talk, “I’ve kinda just been here since I died. Not in this apartment specifically but with them since I died. Like I said it was really sudden, I had gone into cardiac arrest at work and since I was a nurse all the resources and help was there. It just didn’t work out that way. I know how hard it was for Y/n to go on without me but I’ve been with her every step of the way, even if she couldn’t see me. She’s done an amazing job raising Flo.” Billie smiles before relaying the message to Y/n softly. By now Florence had sensed the shift in the room and came over to sit in her mother’s lap in an effort to comfort the woman.
“What next? I thought when people died they went to heaven or moved on. Why is she still roaming? Is this some sort of purgatory?” Y/n asked Billie and she thought a bit before turning to Dawn to get an answer.
“I think I’ve just been waiting to make contact with you.” She says looking at Y/n now. “I want you to know it is okay to move on and be happy. That’s all I want for you. I’ll always be watching over both of you, but I need to know you’re both going to be happy even without me. I was waiting until Florence could tell her, but I’m glad you can help us.” Dawn finished finally looking at Billie gratefully.
“Of course, it’s what I do.” She replied before telling Y/n everything Dawn said.
“Dawn, I love you. And you’ll always be my first love. I don’t know if I’m supposed to say goodbye or something, but please know I forgive you and I will always make sure Flo remembers her mom.” Y/n spoke softly causing Dawn to cry softly. She blew them both a kiss and slowly faded into a golden white light.
Billie sighs, wiping her own tears before turning back toward Y/n, “She’s gone now.”
From there the two were inseparable. It was something about how helpful Billie had been in that situation. She’d come to help her out of the kindness of her heart and had made the whole situation as comfortable as possible for her. Billie had given Y/n her personal number before leaving, offering to talk or just be there if she ever needed someone. She wanted to be a friend to the woman and those were her only intentions going into the friendship. But that was around 7 months ago and she couldn’t deny that she’d fallen for the single mother. So that was just another reason she found it difficult to leave to go film. She knew she had to and this was the first time since becoming friends with Y/n that she had to experience saying goodbye to someone. Two somebodys actually. She didn’t think it’d be as hard as it was considering they’d only been in each others lives for like 6 months, but when Florence hit her with the deepest pout she’d seen on the five year old’s face, the medium almost cancelled the trip all together. So yeah, leaving was way harder but she was far too excited to come back. She’d been texting Y/n since she got off the plane and they’d planned to meet tomorrow to catch up and she felt like a giddy little school girl.
As she pulled into her driveway Billie was surprised to see Y/n and Florence sitting on the steps of her house wearing matching grins. She hurried to put her car in park and turn the car off. She stood outside of her car, shock written all over her face.
“Surprise!” Florence grinned, running into the medium’s legs eagerly. Billie smiled bending to scoop the child into her arms.
“Oh yes this is quite the surprise.” Billie smiled, kissing the girl’s cheek before walking to her mother with a grin. “Hi.” Billie whispered, unlocking her door and letting Y/n inside as Flo rested on her hip.
“Hey, I hope we didn’t ruin your evening. Someone just couldn’t wait to see you.” Y/n said, eyeing the girl in Billie’s arms.
“Not at all. I’m glad you’re here.” Billie smiled as they walked further into her home.
“We brought spaghetti!” Florence exclaimed, smiling over at her mother, muddling the word abit.
“Oh really?” Billie smiled, eyes moving to finally take Y/n in fully. That's when she noticed the tupperware in her hands.
“Well I figured since we were interrupting your night, I should at least feed you.” Y/n said shyly.
“Well let’s dig in, I’m starved.” Billie smiled leading the way to her kitchen with Florence cheering happily at the prospect of food.
And that’s how they found themselves all piled throughout Billie’s living room, Billie with a plate of spaghetti in hand, and the Lady and the Tramp playing on the tv. Florence had finished her spaghetti long ago and was now just sprawled out on the loveseat half awake. They’d watched a couple of movies before finally putting this one on. It’d been a while since Y/n had seen the movie but she was happy she was able to watch in Billie’s company. The medium had become a significant part of her life and she was so grateful for her. It was all in the name of having a friend but she’d fallen for her charm and there really was no turning back now. She didn’t even realize how deep her feelings for the medium ran until they departed for a month and a half and their only form of communication was a facetime call or text message during their free time. She found herself missing her company and her presence and it was a wake up call for her. So yes Flo wanted to see Billie, but Y/n was just as eager as the toddler. So when the movie came to her favorite part she couldn’t help gazing at the medium out of the corner of her eye. The dogs were sharing their spaghetti during the iconic scene and she found herself think about doing that with Billie briefly before shaking her head at the absurdity of the idea. They were grown women, they couldn’t share spaghetti like children or dogs in this case. But before she could spiral any further she felt a nudge in her side. She turned to look at Billie and immediately felt the heat rush to her cheeks as she saw the medium looking at her holding a spaghetti noodle between her lips with a grin.
The medium watched as Y/n nervously put the other end of the spaghetti between her lips and they both inched closer and closer to each other. The noodle continued to dwindle between them but their eyes were focused. Their attention unwavering as they gazed at each other’s lips. As they continued to eat the noodle the tension between them seemed to be too strong because the noodle snapped in half. They both finished off their pieces of noodle but remained close. There was no more noodle. Billie paused moving her eyes to Y/n’s just in case she wasn’t comfortable with this anymore. She was about to pull away nervously, when she heard a small whisper from the the mother’s lips.
“Please kiss me.”
And that was all Billie needed to hear to join their lips in a warm kiss.
