Is it just me or is Anh a kind of bad friend ? "The Love hypothesis"
I've just finished my second reading of "The Love Hypothesis" by Ali Hazelwood and I can't tell if Anh is a bad friend or if I'm getting too into the book. I like their friendship backstory and how close they are but when it comes to guys/relationships Anh gets weird.
First with Jeremy. Htting it off with him at her birthday where he was Olive's date. Talking to Malcolm about him behind Olive's back, complimenting him often of Olive and telling him about Olive and Adam.
Then with Adam. Anh oversteps and tells Olive to do things to him. Like kissing him and putting sunscreen on him. When Olive says no she compares it to putting sunscreen on her boyfriend's face (Jeremy) to putting it on shirtless sweaty Adam.

I am 50% into my first read of Disappearing Acts by Terry McMillan and immediately from the first page I had to annotate. So far, this book has me talking back more than I usually do in response and reactions to the characters. As individuals they are complex and together they are even more complicated. Further into my reading, my mind continues to wonder in frustration. - Why are they still dealing with each other? - How does someone work through their emotions in relation to their partners decisions and behavior when those actions consistently impact them both negatively? - After more valleys than peaks, and so many red flags, when does someone finally say they must put themselves first and remove themselves from a relationship? These characters continuously say they love each other and although there are actions to back it up, their inner thoughts expose that it’s more performative than them trying to actually make those actions of ‘love’ a habit. I say all that to say, this weekend read is putting me through it (lol). Frankie and Zora. Father God, Jesus of Nazareth, help them Lord, because this ain’t it #IYKYK My question to you all is, would you give someone a chance to enter your life solely based on the principle of the potential of what the person can be? I’m aware that most of us do end up in relationships (romantic and platonic) and we more often than not start with seeing the potential in someone adding to our lives. When does potential in relationships turn into a liability for you? SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT!! Just returned yesterday from Cancun (a much needed vacation) and had a good week of reading. As I catch up on my reviews they will all be here in THE SPOTLIGHT! But today the light is on Someday, Maybe. In keeping with my core principle of honesty, I must say, this was a tough read for me. Emotionally. Mentally. Spiritually. Was difficult to find any joy, well the writing contained some beautiful sentences and paragraphs but the content, whoa. I wrote ✍🏾 Overwhelming. To say this is a grief filled novel is the ultimate understatement. The ability of this author to immerse the reader in grief over 350 pages is astonishing. I mean, whew. It just never stopped. It was unrelenting, to the point that you feel like you are experiencing grief along with the character. As a trigger warning, anyone who has dealt with the suicide of a loved one may want to steer clear. The four stars are for the beautiful paragraphs that offer temporary respite from the trauma that inherits page after page after page. At some point, I was begging for the end, the only relief coming when I knew I was near the finish line. A tough read. #ownvoicesreviews #bookstagram #pushingbooksainteasy #bookpusher #somedaymaybe #blackbooksmatter #blackbookstagram #bookreview #blackbibliophile #onyinwabineli #readmorebooks #readingismylife #booksaremylife #bookblogger #goodblackreads #makereadinglitagain #sundayspotlight #readreadread (at Houston, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CjfktaFrf6V/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Last Tuesday 9/6 was such an amazing pub day! I am so excited about so many of the late 2022 books that have been coming out because the stories sound incredible. The Attic Child by Lola Jaye is out now this story is sure to keep you captivated until the very end. Can we talk about how gorgeous this cover is? Thank you @williammorrowbooks and @bibliolifestyle for the gifted copy. QOTD: Do you enjoy stories about family secrets? Which one do you recommend? 💥SYNOPSIS💥 A hauntingly powerful and emotionally charged novel about family secrets, love and loss, identity and belonging. Two children trapped in the same attic, almost a century apart, bound by a shared secret. Early 1900s London: Taken from his homeland, twelve-year-old Celestine spends most of the time locked away in the attic of a large house by the sea. The only time Celestine isn’t bound by confines of the small space is when he is acting as an unpaid servant to English explorer Sir Richard Babbington, As the years pass, he desperately clings on to memories of his family in Africa, even as he struggles to remember his mother’s face, and sometimes his real name . . . 1974: Lowra, a young orphan girl born into wealth and privilege whose fortunes have now changed, finds herself trapped in the same attic. Searching for a ray of light in the darkness of the attic, Lowra finds under the floorboards an old-fashioned pen, a porcelain doll, a beaded necklace, and a message carved on the wall, written in an unidentifiable language. Providing comfort for her when all hope is lost, these clues will lead her to uncover the secrets of the attic.  #TheAtticChild #LolaJaye #books #bookstagram #bookstagrammers #20booksbyblackwomen #bookish #bookcommunity #reading #TBR #bookphotograph #Nigerianauthor #Africanliterature #fiction #secrets #historicalfiction #literature #libros #BlackBookstagram #BlackAuthor #readersofinstagram #bookworm (at The Bushwick Collective) https://www.instagram.com/p/CiY6AyKr2md/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Loved this review of A Comb of Wishes by Lisa Stringfellow! Scroll to see the author's reflections on #juneteenth. You can purchase from our @instagram, @facebook, @shopify, @tiktok, @librofm (audiobook) or @pinterest stores. Link in bio: @sistahscifi. Better yet, check it out from your local #library!!! Reposted from @bookinitwithahtiya ✨ Thank you so much @shelfstuff for sending me a finished copy of A COMB OF WISHES by Lisa Stringfellow! 🌊🧜🏾‍♀️ ✨ I listened to this recently released middle grade fantasy on audio and had an incredible experience. The method of storytelling really incorporates the use of call and response in Black Diasporic traditions. The tradition of oral storytelling in the Black community, specifically in the Caribbean, is expertly woven into the story. The dual perspectives between little girl Kela and mermaid Ophidia adds a sense of anticipation and foreboding. This novel has lots of heart and deals with grief, specifically death of a parent. I’m excited for my students to discover this one! 🧜🏾‍♀️🌊 ✨ Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 . . . #OwnVoices #BookCommunity #BookPhotography #BookNerd #BookRecommendations #BlackBookstagram #BlackBooksMatter #DiverseSpines #BookinItWithAhtiya #ACombOfWishes #SistahScifi #Juneteenth #Juneteenth2022 #CaribbeanAmericanHeritageMonth #SistahScifi #LisaStringfellow Reposted from @theshelfstuff https://www.instagram.com/p/CfDB0t4JcFO/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Peace to the #rebelreaders... for #READINGistheREVOLUTION. Peace to @onyxedition and the #blackbookstagrammers that support #blackownedbookstores. This is for the #blackbookstagram and those that plan #blackbookstoretours. We're just here to chant #MorePOWERTOTHEREADER! ✊🏾 and affirm: #BLACKPUBLISHINGPOWER is the solution. As #fREADom is first birthed in the mind... We appear here and there to help #shakeupyourshelves, Flood your timeline with #blackexcellence, And challenge the quo to put #blackauthors on the shelf. #youknowthevibes at #scribesandvibes, This is where you #findyourtribe And discover #KNOWledgeofSELF. You can catch us on a #popupbookshop promo or #shopscribesandvibes online. If nothing else, we ask: Why them Willie Lynch isms got you walking around freely with your mind imprisoned? Why they poison us with radio and television? Why the need to effeminate the Black male in tell-lie-vision depictions? Why'd that white magazine advertise Future: The Best Rapper Alive on the cover of it's May edition? Why they wanna indoctrinate the #YOUNGGIFTEDANDBLACK with bleak futures filled with addiction and prison? Why must ye be forced to #readBannedBooks while mass media is publicizing drug addiction and womanizing to our children? It's time to change the frequency! Why they wanna force feed us negative images of self so frequently? Why do they censor #BlackWriters then author laws to put our babies in prison? What do they gain from keeping your mind imprisoned? What does it mean when they say they vow to keep woke politics out of public school systems? #staywOke! and keep one eye open whenever the guys behind the eye in the sky coin phrases to signal dog whistles for Blacks. Learn to listen to what's not being said in catchphrases like "Take Our Country Back." Why do you think Critical Race Theory is under attack yet no mentions of disparities within the juvenile justice system? #FREEYOURMIND! They're pushing this BIPOC agenda to efface #blackpublishing professionals right before our face, Yet we're not having it this time. By the way, Happy #IndieBookstoreDay! This time, we'll #FREEtheMIND! -Stevie #READINGisaREVOLUTIONaryact https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc-ioBfLzwX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The only way I know how to get through a non-fiction book, is by simultaneously reading another book I actually want to read 😂😩😩 🎵First Things First🎵 (what song comes to mind after you hear that phrase?!)
