I just recently got back into My Hero again after, like, idk, 2 to 3 years after my hyperfixation ended?? (I still kept up to date but wasn't as into it) I binge read volumes 34 to 36 in less than 24 hours and . . . WTF!?

I was already spoiled about Aoyama being the UA traitor so it didn't hurt as bad but I still felt so upset for my precious flamboyant baby. 😭

THEN

When I got to volume 36, I was like "huh, since Midoriya was warped to the wrong place wouldn't it be funny if Bakugo just straight up died before he could get there? Haha . . ."

WHY HORIKOSHI!?!!??! WHY DID THE VOLUME HAVE TO END LIKE THAT!?!? THAT CLIFFHANGER WAS AN ATTACK ON MY HEART!!

It was one thing to see THAT panel of Bakugou on my phone, it's an entirely different thing to actually read it happening and see the looks on everyone else's face once they realize what just happened.

So apparently Hawks' villain report lists Dabi's quirk as "Blue Flame" (and the anime website has also updated for this to be the name) and before anyone gets too excited that Dabi's quirk has been given an "official" name, let me explain why I have my suspicions on this.

I feel like this has to be taken with a grain of salt because it is HAWKS writing the report, and Hawks is not omniscient. Hawks cannot write something he doesn't know, so everything he puts in the report is something he should realistically be able to know within the MHA universe. Which means Hawks probably looked at Dabi and thought "hmm, yes, his blue fire is made out of blue fire."

Remember, WE are the ones who don't know Dabi's quirk; this is not a mystery for anyone in the MHA world. In universe, everyone probably just calls it "Blue Flame" (and Touya's quirk was probably registered as Hellflame as a kid). Hawks likely concluded "well, his quirk is clearly different from Endeavor's, so I'll just call it "blue flame."

I find it similar to the recap episodes from seasons 3 and 4 calling Deku's quirk "super strength" because that is what UA probably has him registered under. Of course Aizawa and this random reporter would say the wrong quirk: they're making a guess based on what they physically see. There's no way for them to know his quirk is actually called "One For All." This is probably what happened with Hawks's report.

I guess we'll see. If his quirk actually does end up as just "blue flame" I wouldn't be surprised tbh. It's as good a name as any, I'm just a little wary that it wasn't revealed in the main series or any of the volume extras. I'm also suspicious that it was a secret in the first place if it really is just called "blue flame" (that doesn't make sense to keep as a secret because we could have guessed that ourselves).

The messaging surrounding Shinsou's plight is annoyingly inconsistent. His flashback implies discrimination against villainous quirks, but the heroes are all for Shinsou becoming a hero without hesitation. There clearly is a structural bias against non-physical quirks at least at UA considering their entrance exam, but the extent of that beyond UA is never really addressed. It's frustrating because Shinsou's character has an excellent concept and good introduction but the execution falls flat

(Also, what do they mean by "such a large gap in their battle experiences". The first years have only been in the hero course about a month and Izuku isn't from a hero family so they wouldn't expect prior training)
