“Passed Alger Brook Road, I'm over the bridge.”

Remus never thought he’d be sitting on this train once more. In this moment, he’s 14 again. The hills roll by and if he closes his eyes, imagines just hard enough, he can still hear the clamouring and giggling that used to belong here. The train is empty, save for Remus, a special trip just for him. In the worst way, this is all too familiar. Like the trunk remembers the axe, Remus can’t help but feel he is gently travelling towards a terrible thing.

“A minute from home but I feel so far from it.”

Remus had lived in London for so long that the Welsh had been bleached out of his accent. Hope and Lyall were long gone, finally resting. And Remus was alone. Home had always been where his heart had lived. Never Wales though, never a place, always a person. Cariad. Cariad. Cariad. With every beat of his heart, Remus knows where home is. He thinks of James and Lily and Harry. He thinks of a home that once belonged to them.

“The death of my dog, the stretch of my skin.”

He thinks of a home that belongs to him, of a basement with a torn up mattress and a master bedroom with a leather jacket hanging on the back of the chair. Remus could never understand how people could one day lock a door and never open it again. Until he did. Slowly, the cottage grew to be too much, bore a weight so goddamn heavy that Remus shouldered it all. That house held the three people he loved, “love” his mind corrects him. He wonders whether in 11 years of solitude, that house too, would be reluctant to see him again.

“It's all washin' over me, I'm angry again.”

In a way, only Remus could understand why James and Lily had to die. Unfortunately, there is always a greater good. There is always someone, ‘something’ his mind hisses, greater than him. The rage is dormant now. The war is over. Remus knows loss incredibly well, walks hand in hand with her most days. Instinctively, he tightens his grip on his thigh. It serves as a reminder. You survived the war. You lost everyone you love. You are real. You are neither punished nor the punisher. Not anymore.

“The things that I lost here, the people I knew.”

Remus takes a walk along the length of the train. Nostalgia’s sake and all that. The open compartment doors rattle gently and the seats are vacant. For some reason, Remus half expected to run into a brick wall at King’s Cross. He doesn’t know how to exist in this space again, how to walk the halls of the castle without feeling like a ghost instead. Mostly, Remus doesn’t know how he could look into James’ faces and Lily’s eyes again, and see them on someone else.

“They got me surrounded for a mile or two.”

Logically, he knows “No.” is as good an answer as any. He made sure that there were no more favours, no more secrets. Remus knows that from 11, the castle cared for him. He also knows that care and respect go hand in hand. He has no debt to the castle but he does have duty to fulfil. For every man who obeys his duty, there is another who cannot. A prison cell briefly flashes in his mind, then a cupboard under stairs, then a set of silver handcuffs.

“The car's in reverse, I'm grippin' the wheel.”

The train shudders and stops. The sky is dark. Remus’ eyes are closed. He inhales deeply and lets muscle memory take over. His steps now echo down the empty train carriages. He is just as tall as the last time he stood here. This time, he leaves behind four giggling boys. He leaves behind the weight of a head in his lap. The image is superimposed into his eyelids. Remus hopes that everything that ever existed still exists in moments, even though we don’t get them back. The doors slide open and he steps onto the platform.

“I'm back between villages and everything's still.”

For the second time in his life, Remus John Lupin has the sudden and crashing realisation that he is totally and utterly alone.

hamlet but i haven't seen it (yet)

there's this guy named hamlet who's the prince of denmark

somethings foul in the state of denmark or something

hamlet's dad, the king, got killed before the play and hamlet suspects his uncle claudius (is that his name?)

claudius marries hamlet's mother and is now king (bit weird but okay)

hamlet doesnt like that

the ghost of hamlet's father appears to hamlet and tells him to kill his uncle in revenge

hamlet is a college student so actually quite young (i think boy started to go to college at age 14 and hamlets probably around 16 but nobody's sure)

a phrase stuck in my brain is "hamlet the frat boy" but im pretty sure he's more of a theater kid

instead of killing his uncle hamlet stages a play similar to what he thinks transpired to watch how his uncle reacts to it

the lady doth protest too much, methinks

shakepeare does love to make his protagonists spiral into insanity

i heard hamlet is a story about grief and i also heard that it's like a mirror, what you see about hamlet says more about you that hamlet himself (but dont ask me to elaborate i am realising my brain retains information i have no clue how i got)

in the end almost everyone dies because of hamlet

hamlet stabs someone through the curtain i think its the father of ophelia (polonius or smth i dunno) cause he thinks is his uncle

im not sure why his uncle should be behind a curtain tho

hamlet randomly gets kidnapped by pirates but we never see it because shakespeare already new how expensive special effects are

i bet the pirates let hamlet go because he's a little bitch

i think in one scene he just tries to fluster ophelia (his not-quite-girlfriend) by turning everything she says into sexual innuendo (may i lay my head in your lap so on so on)

there's one scene with a grave digger whom hamlet asks for whom the grave is the man is digging and the man responds it is his own to which hamlet answers something along the lines of

Death Eaters killed her and her husband over her blood status. He has fond memories of the times with his parents though he doesn’t remember them as well as his brother. Grandparents: Riley & Piper Orrell Relationship to them: Brooke was raised by his muggle grandparents who lived on a small farm in plaah. Brooke was always close to both of them and could count on them for advice on many things. Neither of them understood his abilities and thought he was making them up and for the longest time Brooke thought he just had a big imagination. His grandfather died when he was 13 and the rest of The Five Club attended his funeral to support Brooke. Brooke wears Riley's old coat.

Relationship with him:

Hale is Brooke’s older brother. The two have a troubled relationship. While they attended Hogwarts Hale was very popular and the captain of the Slytherin quidditch team.

After their grandfather passed Hale felt responsible to take care of his little brother and grandmother and he took a more fatherly role which annoyed Brooke. Hale always had strong opinions on how Brooke should behave and who he should spend time with disapproving his relationship to Vanya Kavinsky and thinking that he's troubled. Brooke was more sensitive to the Killingbeck abilities while Hale tried to ignore his own connection to the dark. He lied to Brooke about his own experiences making Brooke think he was the only one who had them. Eventually the two came by Demetrius Killingbeck's old writings and found out the truth of their abilities. During Brooke’s sixth year at Hogwarts Hale got a job as the assistant of Sasha Kavinsky to Brooke’s great displeasure. He eventually became involved in the five clubs adventures to the other world. During Brooke’s seventh year he saved The Five Club by staying behind in The Dark Realm. Brooke believed him to be dead for a long time and felt guilty over his fate. When Brooke was 28, The Five Club returned to The Other World and Hale was found not having aged a day while being stuck in there. The Killingbeck brothers were the sons of Julian and Danica Killingbeck. They experimented with alchemy as young men and caused the death of their sister in the process. Demetrius got connected to the darkness and death while Yardley was connected to the light. Demetrius later sacrificed his own life to save his brother but accidentally offended death enough to cause a sort of curse on his family line. His family members always had at least two sons and the other son was destined to die, may it be as a baby or later in life. Many of his family members were also haunted by death and had special abilities.

Vanya Kavinsky @gaygryffindorgal Face claim: Felix Sandman

Relationship with him: Brooke and Vanya were both sorted into Ravenclaw and there was a great chance on them becoming friends during the first months. However when Brooke started getting close to the other Five Club members Vanya grew jealous and the two became rivals. Later on, when Brooke was having trouble with his friends the two grew closer again and started to hook up occasionally. Brooke didn’t want to admit to his feelings and Vanya was always unpredictable. Later on Vanya betrayed him because of his fathers plots and schemes and hurt Brooke in the process causing him the scar on his right cheek.

Judy Bones @gaygryffindorgal Face claim: Violet Brinson

Relationship with her: Brooke got to know Judy as Jesper’s girlfriend. During the sixth year the two became friends on their own which led the other members of The Five Club to think that the two were involved with each other in secret. This caused a rift between the friends. Later on during their seventh year after Judy and Jesper had broken up the two started to grow closer again and developed feelings for each other. 5 years from graduation (and Vanya’s betrayal) the two started to officially date.

Relationship with him: Out of his friends, Brooke is the closest to Darby. Brooke always felt the most comfortable around him and he's the one who Brooke speaks most out of everyone in his life. Darby is also the first one to learn about his secret. When Darby gets affected by The Entity during their seventh year, Brooke feels strongly about finding the fix for it and saving him.

Harker Hartford Faceclaim: William Franklyn Miller

Relationship to them:

Brooke and Harker get along well though they don’t spend that much time just the two of them. They’re both creative and have feelings they’d like to hide from everyone else. Harker's close relationship to Jesper sometimes comes between the two as Brooke feels like Harker would always choose Jesper's side, even when he’s wrong. The two get to spend more time just the two of them during their seventh year when Harker is keeping his distance from Jesper.

Jude Castellan Faceclaim: Andre Dae Kim

Relationship to them: Jude is the joker of the group and manages to get Brooke laugh if he wants to. Jude has a tendency to jump into conclusions and not thinking before saying things while Brooke is the opposite. They manage to get into a lot of misunderstanding but over all are close. They both have a close relationship with a Kavinsky family member.

Jesper Greenaway @gaygryffindorgal Faceclaim: Sebastian Croft

Relationship to them:

Jesper and his family are the whole reason why The Five Club gets involved with The Other World. Brooke and Jesper are both interested about the place and finding out more about it. In the friend group they have the most difficult relationship. They have their issues with the Judy situation and also come from very different backgrounds. Their personalities don’t really match either which causes them to often argue and disagree on things.

I was captured and made a believer from the first paragraph of this book. From the first page, you are thrown into a murder scene unlike anything you've ever read about. BLACK SHEEP is a gripping novel that follows the tumultuous life of Sombria Brooks.

SUMMARY

Bria Brooks has one agenda and that is destroying anything and everything that connects to her past. Born and raised in a religious cult, Bria has a first hand knowledge of how far humans can sink when drunk on power.

An angelic look, coupled with a brilliant mind, Bria is anything but an angel. In fact, she views herself as the devil. Bria is not just a black sheep, but a big bad wolf in disguise set on finding a phantom. Caron Berger. But the big bad wolf is not the only one out to hunt.

Meet perfect professor Kaplan.

Dr Elijah Kaplan is also on the hunt for Caron Berger, the leader of the Agni cult. Although he is a phantom, Eli is set on catching the ghost. Eli has more to him than meets the eye. A beast in his own right and fierce hunter. The hunt brings the two hunters in close proximity and at first, Bria sees Eli as a stumbling block in her pursuit, but she soon realizes that they are playing the same field and that their demons may not be so different after all.

Eli, a rule follower, and Bria who is more than happy to break his composure and dance with the beast on the inside. They make an unlikely pair but Eli is not scared of Bria's darkness. Together they hunt their prey and in the midst of that, feelings arouse. Secrets are rearing up, strong enough to break them apart. In the midst of this dance, their biggest prey awaits but will they be able to capture their own hearts as well?

MY REVIEW.....

BLACK SHEEP started off my dark romance journey. If there was a way I could give this book more than five stars, I would have. This book gave off everything a dark romance novel should. Murders? Check. Hot MMC that is totally obsessed with the FMC? Check. Traumatic past? Check. Plot twists? Check. Hot steamy scenes? Check, check and Check.

Although, I would have loved more background story on some of the characters, it didn't affect the story line. The tension build up in this book had me sitting on the edge of my chair. I couldn't drop it. This is one novel that had me from it's very first paragraph, I tell you. Amazing plot development. The writing style made the book very easy to comprehend and follow the story line. Every scene was well written and perfectly put together. And the steamy scenes were really steamy. The end of the novel though? Totally unexpected and I was all for it.

The character relationships contributed perfectly to the plot.

The relationship between Bria and Samuel Miyagi was very important to the development of plot. Samuel was the one who saved Bria after she was abandoned and left for dead by the cult at age 14. He taught her everything she knows. How to channel her rage into becoming a lethal weapon and taking revenge on her enemies. He is not just her mentor, but he is the father figure she needs.

The relationship between Eli and Kathryn Fletcher is one of my favourites. Fletcher who is also a professor, is Eli's best friend. Her sense of humor brought the comic relief in the otherwise dark plot. I especially love how she plays the sense of reasoning with Eli and their almost sibling banter.

"I can't love anyone. But if I could, I would love you. I would have loved you forever"

"He kisses me on the nose as though my murderous glare is adorable "

"If Bria Brooks is the devil, I'll gladly burn in hell"

"Haven't you figured it out yet, Kaplan? You may think you have a demon in you, but I'm the devil he worships in the night"

What I didn't like about this book?

Absolutely nothing. Nothing at all.

I have to say, Brynne Weaver and Alexa Harlowe outdid themselves with this book. This is one book I totally recommend to readers that are thinking to explore the dark romance genre (although the book comes with a trigger warning but if you don't mind it, I suggest you dive right in), and to those who are already exploring the dark romance world, this is a must have in your collection if you haven't read it.
