ahead of the s2 release, here are a few incoherent thoughts based on absolutely nothing while i have some time to jot them down during my snow day: (gv book spoilers ahead, so skip for now if you’re a show only fan!)
above all else, i’m just excited to have these characters back in new (and yet still familiar) ways
i do not need this to be a perfect season. it won’t be. no one should be expecting that. speaking entirely right now about the crows and their duology, we have two perfect books to go back to. nothing that happens in this show could “ruin” anything from SoC or CK because they are two different entities
i am scared of the kaz and jordie flashbacks in a way that i have never been scared of anything in my entire life. there is sheer terror coursing through my veins right now.
i know. i just know. that genya’s arc will end my entire life this season. if i hear the words “i am not ruined. I am ruination” delivered by daisy within the next 48 hours i will be ascending to another plane of existence
whatever kanej content we get this season WILL cause a medical emergency for me and i know this
wylan. that’s it, that’s the tweet. wylan.
trying to prepare for my helnik brain cells to be beaten to shit this season
remembering that we also get jesper flashbacks just made me doordash tissues to my apartment
just know this. any zoyalai interactions will have consequences that range so far. that are so intense. the shockwaves will be felt far and wide.
i want unhinged kaz this season and i had better get it. just absolutely wild. cane beatdowns left and right. merciless. irrational. ruthless. give it to us.
i am wholly unprepared to see nikolai living the persona he enjoys most. knowing what’s ahead for him and how much he yearns for these moments in the future. not ready for THAT! wait. if this season covers books 2 and 3 are we going to see demon!nikolai. oh FUCK. oh fuck oh fuck. why did i not consider this before literally right now.
in summary, we are fucked. good luck out there everyone. NMNF.

After Wylan and Jesper`s reconciliation in Ep 6, they spent a significant part of their screentime practically glued to each other. And here`s a nice example of that:
Tumblr media
When Wylan yells 'Shield your eyes!' Jesper is the only one who doesn`t move a single freakin` inch. The only thing he does to protect himself is basically just what Wylan tells them to do, namely covering his eyes with his forearm.
Well, Jesper is standing behind Wylan so he doesn`t need to literally get out of harm`s way the way Tolya, Tamar and Nikolai do. But neither do Nadia and Kaz , yet they turn away and practically get down covering their heads. This also might be recklessness overriding the self-preservation instinct. Yet I think said instict is indeed being overridden here but by something different: the need to be close to Wylan and the trust Jesper puts in him.
As mentioned above, Jesper and Wylan have not gone far from each other`s side since they made up. They believe that is where they belong, and Jesper`s instincts apparently tell him that staying close to Wylan is more important than getting an additional protection from potential harm. Besides, Wylan has told them to shield their eyes, so that`s enough! Wylan knows what he`s doing and what the rest should be doing where his chemicals and explosions are concerned.
I am right by your side. I trust you. This is a far cry from 'To be clear, I trust you 'cause Kaz trusts you'. And this is absolutely beautiful.

Kaz: I'm texting Inej, i'm gonna ask her to dinner. How should i say it "Let's get dinner" or do you wanna get dinner" ? Nina: Go with "Let's get dinner" so you sound like assertive and confident Kaz : For sure Wylan: Actually no cause now you sound a little aggressive Jesper: Cause you don't wanna be the kinda guy who's like " LETS GET DINNER" like some sort of caveman Matthias: You're supposed to ask her to dinner, not tell her to dinner Mal: Just say " do you wanna get dinner?" Kaz: Perfect Alina: Actually wait, now you sound kinda like a pussy Kaz: This is tough Genya: The last thing you wanna be is like that overly masculine guy who's like " lets get dinner,on the breadwinner bitch" Darkling: Women also love assertiveness Tolya: Say "Dinner would be something i would enjoy taking you to, if you are also interested in attending the meal David: The more words the better Nikolai: Wait, say " I would like nothing more, than to take you to the finest restaurant in town, for a lovely meal that we call dinner Kaz: Should i send that in a voice memo? Zoya: FUCK THAT. Say " Dinner tonight, take it or leave it BITCH" Cause she's playing games Tamar: Sign it, seal it, deliver it Kuwei: I dont know why girls are so difficult all of the time Kaz: I'm not gonna say that Inej: Definitely don't say that

Best and worst appareances of every character
For the sake of fairness I am sticking for characters seen on the show (also not everyone has bad appareances, I’ll refrain to say which ones but some of their “worst” it’s only due to screen/page to end, and runner ups are only for very close calls or different reasoning) Again, this is a matter of opinion

Grishaverse characters rated on my opinion of their ability to pull off an earring/earrings
Kaz - 5/10 I feel like he’d look good with one earring, he loses points because I don’t think he could pull off gold only silver, and also just because he could pull it off doesn’t mean I think he’d get one
Inej - 8/10 yeah I can see her with two small studs, probably has some big, gorgeous traditional Suli earrings somewhere that she doesn’t wear in Ketterdam but looks amazing in, can’t decide if she’d look better in silver or gold
Nina - 9/10 she defo has her ears pierced, this is a woman that can freely switch between silver and gold and they both work with anything she wears, feel like she’d be into big earrings because she doesn’t have to be in too close proximity to fight so they wouldn’t be in her way
Matthias - 3/10 he could maybe pull it off but I just can’t see it, I love him but no
Wylan - 4/10 same as Kaz in that I think he could maybe do it but he would choose not to, he would only wear gold, I think he’d have one in each ear, but yeah I just can’t quite see it
Jesper - 11/10 man has multiple in each ear, he can switch between silver and gold but I reckon mostly gold, and honestly I thought for a while that him having a piercing was canon but apparently I was wrong so there you go
Zoya - 9/10 she can totally pull off multiple piercings, silver more than gold but that’s fine cause it goes with her Kefta, starts gradually wearing more traditional Suli earrings over time, but also probably has one of those cool chains from the cuff to the lobe (I love those)
Genya - 10/10 defo has piercings, I think gold, let’s face it she just suits everything
Alina - 7/10 I can see her wearing one lil gold stud in each ear, probably in a cute shape, only loses points because she’d only ever wear the same pair and that just seems like a rejection of potential
Nikolai - 10/10 I just KNOW he has at least one piercing, I get the vibes of him having two or three in one ear but none in the other, and they’re defo gold
David - 4/10 I can’t see it, but if he did it’d be one silver stud, I don’t think he would though it just doesn’t match his vibe for me
Tamar - 8/10 massive gold hoops, gorgeous, she pulls them off perfectly, like she does literally anything
Kuwei - 5/10 it’s a maybe, but if he did they’d be gold
Tolya - 6/10 I can see him with one piercing, probably a small gold hoop, I’m open to it but I’m not 100% convinced

Grishaverse Tribute
I'm pissed. I'm vengeful. I'm going to march on Netflix.
The cancellation is uncalled for, now all we will see in return for the snubbing of one of the best series on Netflix, with one of the best fandoms, cast and creators another stupid documentary glorifying a serial killer, another shitty teen show with no plot but plenty of sex (because sexualizing children will be something they always get away with), and another over-marketed pointless action film with some former boxer or wrestler leading it who can't really act more than one type of nice-buff guy.
In my mournful and restless vengeful spirit, I have come up with another playlist dedicated to the Grishaverse, the fans, the cast and Leigh Bardugo. This breaks their hearts so much because we know how excited and passionate they were about telling this story, and to think now so many won't be able to go on and live their beloved characters through to the end. I can't stand it.
"None of this had been fated; none of it foretold. There had been no prophecies of a demon king or a dragon queen, a one-eyed Tailor, Heartrender twins. They were just the people who had shown up and managed to survive. But maybe that was the trick of it: to survive, to dare to stay alive, to forge your own hope when all hope had run out. For the survivors then, Zoya whispered to herself as the people before her knelt and chanted her name. And for the lost." - Leigh Bardugo, Rule of Wolves
I got to dream through them, Shadow and Bone saved my Covid years, when I was alone in a dorm learning online, unable to be with anyone else, with no friends and no family. I had little to no confidence and was stuck in a place that scared me. But then I had Shadow and Bone, I had these amazing characters and when I dove into the books, I found so much more. (A found family is my favourite literary trope for a reason.)
“Kaz leaned back. "What's the easiest way to steal a man's wallet?" "Knife to the throat?" asked Inej. "Gun to the back?" said Jesper. "Poison in his cup?" suggested Nina. "You're all horrible," said Matthias." - Leigh Barugo, Six of Crows
This is a playlist for all of us who are mourning and for all of us willing to fight on. I've seen petitions already posted on change.org, lets sign them all, share them all and try our best to change this while we can. Warrior Nun got their season 3. Who says we can't? Who says we shouldn't? Brick by Brick we will build our season 3, or we'll go down trying.
“Have any of you wondered what I did with all the cash Pekka Rollins gave us?" "Guns?" asked Jesper. "Ships?" queried Inej. "Bombs?" suggested Wylan. "Political bribes?" offered Nina. They all looked at Matthias. "This is where you tell us how awful we are," she whispered.” - Leigh Bardugo, Crooked Kingdom
Pardon the ecclectic taste of this long playlist, but there are so many types of song that I feel fit the plot, the charcaters and themes as well as their relationships to each other. This has sparked inspiration in me to create more playlists catering to the Grishaverse and I'll do that alongside my usual playlist posts.
I would also like to say that this playlist isn't just mine, it's for everyone and I would love for any fans of the show or books to let me know if they have any songs that they love to be added to the playlist and I will do so.
There are over 60 songs on this playlist, so I'm not going to write them all here for obvious reasons, I hope none of you mind that.
For our founding mother Leigh Bardugo. For the Six of Crows; Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, Jesper Fahey, Wylan Van Eck, Nina Zenik, Matthias Helvar. For our S+B crew; Alina Starkov, Malyen Oretsev, The Darkling, Baghra Morotzova, Nikolai Lantsov, Zoya Nazyalensky, Genya Safin, David Kostyk, Tolya Yul-Bataar, Tamar Kir- Bataar, Nadia and Adrik Zhabin.
Let the revival of Season 3 be our final grand mission.
Lets stream the show, post more art, more fanfics, more posts, more petitions. Let's fight for what we can.
No Mourners, No Funerals.

Things I’m Most Excited To See in Season 2 of Shadow and Bone
Happy trailer day guys
Kaz further becoming the true badass we know and love from the books
Wylan and the crow’s group dynamic (more Kanej?)
Matthias in Hellgate! Hopefully because of this they’ll spend more time in Ketterdam, which is super exciting because the sets there were amazing and underused in Season 1!
The Nichevo’ya! Tbh not all of the visuals in the trailer looked so great (mostly green screen stuff) but the shadow monsters looked so awesome! I can’t wait to see more of them on screen
More fantastic acting from Ben Barnes, he makes such an amazing villain! And with his scars and the Nichevo’ya he’ll be even more menacing
NIKOLAI OBVIOUSLY
Seeing how they combine the Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising storylines! As I mentioned in an earlier post, I found the pacing in the Siege and Storm book to be kinda uneven, so I’m hoping this will fix things!
More Genya, her storyline is so powerful!
Tamar and Tolya of course, they’re awesome book characters and I can’t wait to see them on screen.
More depth for the crows, Kaz’s backstory (yes it will absolutely destroy me but I want to see it anyway)
Kaz and Nikolai meeting??? You guys I’m so excited
ALSO it seems like they’re retiring Kaz’s fedora which was hilarious to me. I can’t get enough of his haircut so I’m very happy 🫣

Ok my thoughts on s2 of Shadow and Bone
What I liked:
The first four eps were the strongest imo
I loved how they incorporated the crows into this
The costumes!!! (hello Jesper)
Most of the fight choreos since they were perfectly fitted to the character (actually didn't like the choreo in ep6 though)
Tolya and Tamar (thank you queer gods)
Genya
Genya and David
Ben Barnes was outstanding and so fun to watch
I liked the pace up until the last 3 eps
Mal as Stormhond? I dig it
They kinda speed ran Kanej but it was still well made and we got the "I'll have you without your armor" quote
WESPER (seriously they were the cutest ever and had such great chemistry)
Wylan (I KNEW Jack would be perfect but actually watching him being the perfect Wylan was amazing)
Jesper
What I didn't like
I'm mighty pissed about David. Given how important he was for Nikolai in the books and that we didn't even get the relationship between him and Genya properly. There was no need to kill him off so early. I'm really pissed about that (I feel like it's Eskel all over again although we at least got a few scenes with him)
Though I loved Tolya and Tamar I think they didn't quite manage to explain their role in all of this and why they're doing what they do so they seemed a bit randomly placed at times
I didn't like that they sidelined Zoya and that she wasn't with Genya and Nikolai. Obviously they've changed Nikolai's and Alina's story now but man we didn't really get to see any of what makes her Zoya. I mean they hinted that they'll still give her the storyline with that bee but yeah
Like 5 minutes in total of Matthias... Like what was that?
Pekka Rollins now ruling Hellgate - and probably more- kind of negates what Kaz did to him. If it all ends up with Kaz destroying him after all, I'll be happy but that way they really took away from the importance of what Kaz did. It was all he worked for why he is who he is... So I'm like... Yeah they either need to fix this (which I think they'll do or at least they'll revisit this story) or they absolutely built and destroyed that storyline in one go
I'm really not the person who's like "but in the books" or "the books were better" cause these are different mediums, different ways of storytelling and different ppl working on it.
I'm not sure what I think of Alina's storyline now. And which way this will go. I guess they did that to keep her on the show and I sure as hell hope Ben will make a return as well. But I was very... Ok.... When that happened cause it's actually an integral part of who she is that she's NOT drunk on the power in the end and doesn't turn into a person like the Darkling.
I'm gonna be mighty pissed if next season we finally get more Matthias but then he's killed off.
Yeah. I mean finally s3 will be the Crows season.
Also I think even though they upped their gane with Kaz, I think he still could've been more brutal... More Kaz
I hope next season there is more brilliant scheming. Cause imo we haven't really seen Kaz' brilliance yet.
Ok I'm done

What i think The Crows/Shadow and Bone characters birthdays would be based on their vibes
Alina: 16th July (middle of summer but also she is the light of my life)
Mal: 14th October (he’s 10/10 an october baby and 14 suits him for some reason, 14 matches his outfits)
Genya: 17th April (feels undeniably right)
David: 8th December (he feels wintery to me)
Nikolai: 8th May (he’s blonde and for some reason may feels blonde)
Zoya: 15th November (she gives november vibes and 15 is a solid number)
The Darkling: 31st January (January is the worst month of the year and it having 31 days takes the piss. this is darkling slander he is a terrible person and i hate him.)
Tolya: 9th April (the best month for poetry and the number 9 feels right with tolya for some reason)
Tamar: 9th April (forgot these two were twins and was fully preparing to come up with a different date….)
Nadia: 6th June (she reminds me of late spring and early summer)
Adrik: 21st December (10/10 a winter baby but hates the cold)
~
Kaz: 31st October (no reason needed)
Inej: 19th October (to me she is the whole year, every month, every day, i couldn’t decide but October feels kinda purple to me and Inej is purple)
Jesper: 16th May (i have no idea but it felt right for him)
Wylan: 6th september (he gives me major autumn vibes with his sketch books and sweaters)
Nina: 7th August (those two dates feel red to me)
Matthias: 1st December (he is winter, if winter solstice was a specific date he would be that 10/10)
Kuwei: 29th February (he gets screwed over a lot in life and it started with his birthday.)
Anika: 12th September (something about those pin stripe trousers just gave me the feeling)
Pim: 14th June (purely based off vibes)
Keeg: 16th October (again purely vibes)

Shadow and Bone Season 2 premieres March 16, 2023 on Netflix
First look images, followed by quotes from Eric Heisserer, Daegan Fryklind, and Leigh Bardugo, as well as a synopsis and more info on Season 2, which I cannot frickin' wait for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eric Heisserer and Daegan Fryklind (Co-Showrunners / Executive Producers / Writers) & Leigh Bardugo (Author / Executive Producer) on what fans can expect this season:
HEISSERER: The most wonderful thing about Season Two is that we get to advance the story of these characters that we'd left in precarious positions at the end of Season One. There's a lot of potential for them this season. They have to face the consequences for their actions, and then they get to meet new people along the way. The Grishaverse also expands in this season, both in mythology and in characters. In doing so, we expand the world, we go to new locations, we visit Novyi Zem and Shu Han, and those are all integral to the narrative.
FRYKLIND: We've also really dug into more of the mythology this season in terms of the amplifiers, but also the creator of the amplifiers, Morozova, who he was, what his backstory is, and how he ties into this world. We go out and we go deeper.
BARDUGO: I think the readers now trust our writers the way that I do. This season I was able to step back and put the show more firmly in their hands. I think when we approached Season One, a lot of people were like, "It's impossible. It can't be done. Why would you bring SHADOW AND BONE and SIX OF CROWS together?" And I think now, we have that trust. And I think it's going to be very, very exciting for them to see the way that trust pays off in Season Two. Every part of the Grishaverse is coming into play. We are going to get to see some incredible new characters. We're going to see characters interacting with each other, questing with each other, fighting and laughing with each other, who we never got to see together in the books. And I think that's a unique thing about this show. Readers are not only going to be surprised by the way that these storylines crash into each other, they're never going to know where the next move is coming from—and that actually was a pleasure for me because I got to be surprised by my own stories.

To stand a fighting chance against him, Alina and Mal rally their own powerful new allies and begin a continent-spanning journey to find two mythical creatures that will amplify her powers. Back in Ketterdam, the Crows must forge new alliances as they contend with old rivals and even older grudges that threaten not only their place in the Barrel, but their very lives. Shadow & Bone Season 2 Wishlist:
More very subtle blink-and-you'll-miss-it Do Not Touch Kaz moments. Avoiding contact. Edging away from people. With no explanation about any of it, he just does it.
So I wasn't a big fan of the Jesper sex scene. It felt very much like a 'hey look this character is not straight!' moment. And there could have been a better way. I want to see more of that but creatively. I want awkward flirting with Wylan. And I want to see Nina flirting with a girl!
I hope Tamar and Tolya's religious devotion is taken seriously. Especially in regards to how they become protective of Alina.
I want to see Vasily being a dickhead.
I want to see Mal being less of a dickhead. And we've already established that Show Mal is very different from Book Mal and I'm forever grateful.
Nikolai being snarky and quippy and super smart and inventive. He was the only character that made the trilogy (almost) bearable to read so I hope the actor sells me on him.
...I would also love to see almost the same characteristics applied to Kaz, just in a darker font. The show has already established him as mostly just dark and broody, which is a shame. I'd like more layers.
I'm excited to see SOME part of Kaz's backstory but I hope we don't get ALL of it. There's an actor cast as Jordie so we're obviously getting some kind of flashback, and we're getting that scene of Kaz falling back into water which might either be used as a ~metaphor~ or as some kind of narrative arc conclusion. (I like it better as a metaphor or dream and not something that's actually happening tbh. Why's he facing the camera directly on? If someone's pushing him or he's falling, why would he be T-posing backwards???) Anyway, I hope there's more of his backstory left for future seasons.
Last note on Kaz, we all want him more brutal and murdery. Of course.
LASTLY, I want to see some goddamn canals in Ketterdam. Please, I am begging. Ketterdam is one of the best characters in Six of Crows and I feel like we haven't actually met her yet. Maybe it's another issue of saving more for later seasons.
That's it for now. Feel free to add on to this list in tags or whatever. Most of these are SoC related instead of S&B, simply because I am biased.

Nikolai trowing a halloween party where the theme is "Disney villains" and the price for best costume involves kruge
Nikolai went as captain hook. As the judge he wanted to vote for himself but also will make sure he deserves it
Genya and David were the evil queen and the magic mirror. Genya will say "magic mirror on the wall" and David would say "you are" before she could finish the question everytime"
Nina, instead of having a pair costume with Matthias, Hanne or both, teamed up with Inej and went and Ursula and Vanessa. Inej is not sligthly bothered that she was to be with Nina the whole time in order for her costume to work
Hanne was Prince Hans, Nikolai was glad he ruled out that idea for himself
Jesper and Wylan made the day of Gaston x Lefou shippers. Also when Nikolai said Jesper was "too skinny for Gaston" Wylan argued he had the perfect baritone voice and both sang the Gaston theme just to prove their point
Kaz was completely focussed on getting the price for the kruge. So, for his Hades costume, instead of just dying his hair blue or getting a wig like a normal human being, he light on real blue flames on his head (over a liquid that would stop it from burning his skin) because he is THAT extra and dramatic.
Nadia and Tamar went as Yzma and Kronk. They wanted to go bigger so they convinced Leoni and Adrik (who did it very reclutantly) to be Kronk´s shoulder angel and devil (hey, it was better than the original idea when Nadia and he were Cinderella´s stepsisters)
Alina and Mal were almost disqualified for coming as Peter Pan and Tinkerbell instead of "villains" but they put the case that Tinkerbell tried to get a child killed out of jelaousy and Peter Pan kidnapped children himself and if those are not villains then what ist is?, so not only they got back into the competition, they also made a lot of people question their childhood.
Zoya was sure her Maleficent costume was going to make her the winner, isn't she the dragon queen after all?
Most people tought Tolya came as a raven in order to be Zoya´s companion, but he actually didn't got the theme memo and just wanted to be "The raven" from Edgar Allan Poe
Kuwei was actually close to winning, who would be as cruel and hated as Cruella de Vil?
Matthias actually won by coming as the hunter who killed Bambi´s mom, his price was worth all of the children that cried when they saw him. ("Is not a real deer head!" "it´s from a plushie and i will sew it later") Kaz was not happy at all because how the heck didn't ocurred to him?
