7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate
I'd say all mediums of art, and i mean ALL, performance, movies, theatre, paintings, sculptures, writing, music, etc., I'm just a person who's passionate for all kinds of arts and I appreciate the sole existence of art in itself. :)
BUT if i had to pick one as my fav I'd say theatre, I just love ppl playing roles and being able to see it live
14. Any favorite motifs
Textures. I love adding textures to my art, actually I dont even use flat brushes (except to place base colors) they're all textured. and likewise I can appreciate some nice textures on other people's arts
16. Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing
playing guitar. I was really good while I did it but honestly I didn't feel much connection to it and just quit it (also for other personal reasons i wont talk abt that made it not fun anymore)
I've tried picking it back up but its just not fun so whatever

hi i don’t really have anything specific to say but i wanted to let you know i really truly appreciate you and your music, as an artist myself (visual mainly- like drawings, painting and sculpture though i dabble in a plethora of art forms including music, and writing) and a young woman coming into my being as a soon to be young adult and as someone whom feels so deeply, your music has effected me incredibly, it has brought me genuine joy from somewhere far within my inner child and core self. I dance to your music, sing to it, and also listen to it intently, searching for meaning though it is not hard to find in the many beautiful word so carefully chosen by you so expertly. I have cried to your music, it is something still so unfathomably beautiful to me and i may have only found you recently, but even the ways in which you choose to share ur music and yourself on the internet is so special and very honest to the world and people who love you and your music. it has gotten me through some of the hardest times i’ve ever experienced in my young life as of late, and it brings a wondrous warmth and admiration for you and your work.
i wanted to close this with a thought and prospective i thought you might enjoy, i think you music looks like those large beautiful collections of small birds flying in smooth motions & waves bending with itch wind almost as a visual representation of the wind itself, i think it is one of the most unique and almost holy experiences to see this natural movement that is backed by the strength of the birds community, and mutual respect and understanding of each other’s love for life, i think this is what your music has instilled in me.
signed, with care & hope for love, luck, sweetness, and the best of life and happiness for you and all of your future.
Waverly Claire
p.s. ~ this is all coming from a 15 almost 16 year old (my birthday is on february 26, coming soon), & i just wanted to share my care for another artist, from one in the making. & even if you are not interested i would love to share my art with you so you can find me if the interest suits your fancy @quaking_aspen_art on instagram it is a public account so only if you would like but it would make me overjoyed if you would consider it! once again sending thanks for your inspiration to my art and others in the world including some friends i have shared you with (who love you btw). ok that is all for know! 💋🌷💞🪆
dear waverly claire,
happy early birthday :)) thank you so much for your kind words. it’s messages like these that really give me the courage to keep going. especially online. it’s been really hard finding a balance with the social media / artist aspect of things. it’s hard to tell if it’s worth all the work but you’ve made me feel very seen with this letter. it’s almost as if you’ve reached into my psyche through the art and thus all the work has become worth it.
it’s funny you say that about birds, air, water etc. those are all motifs on my album. i do call you guys my love doves. that happened on accident bc someone called me a “sweet dove” once and it filled my heart with so much warmth that i wanted to send it back to the world tenfold.
i think i love birds and flying and air bc i was always really attentive to blue birds as a child. i grew up right next to an airport too so airplanes flying are practically the soundtrack to my childhood. not to mention, my fave ghibli film is castle in the sky- which is about flying.
i think maybe i’m just making music so we can all pretend to fly.
community is so important to me. i wish i had more words to relay how lovely your message is and how much i appreciate it. all the best of love and creative spark to you and your endeavors!!!
love,
rozie

artist ask meme answers
i deleted the reblog to keep my space uncluttered but for reference the meme is here
Tumblr media
3. What ideas come from when you were little?
The main characters in the Mez/medieval mech setting - the two knights and two smiths - are all characters from my first writing project. Which didn't resemble Mez at all, it was an alt Earth in which people had powers, and each of the characters I mentioned lived in different parallel dimensions. The story was about "first contact" between parallel dimensions. I started writing that in 2008 (age 14) and finished in 2015. The setting had a lot of technical problems (unsurprisingly) but I couldn't abandon those characters and felt they deserved better than what I had given them
4. Fav character/subject that’s a bitch to draw
Human faces in general. There's a reason I keep blanking out people's features and it's not because I want to be mysterious. I'm highly face blind and have immense trouble even looking at photos of human faces lmao
7. A medium of art you don’t work in but appreciate
I was gonna say physical block printing but actually I do that now (did my first prints yesterday lol). Second place is definitely sculpture, I adore sculptures but it was always my least favourite medium to try myself
12. Easiest part of body to draw
Torso for animals, legs for humans
21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways
One of my favourite artists on tumblr is @mech-monster .. I've admired their work for years and as a lover of biomechanical art and aeroplanes it's right up my alley. I think their style is pretty emblematic of "art styles nothing like my own" lol but it's so wonderfully precise and technical. Love it
Tumblr media
4. Fav character/subject that’s a bitch to draw
I mentioned faces in general but for a character I find challenging, I really struggle with drawing Pantera!
Tumblr media
how could i possibly have known what I was setting myself up for when I made this design. A lot has changed true but its visor helmet thing is a key part of what Pantera is to me, so I can't get rid of it. But drawing that thing head-on is nightmarish
14. Any favorite motifs
I draw a lot of fleur de lises in the Mez setting because I like the design and think it's a nice visual shorthand for the time period. But each knight has their own motif - Victory's flames, Heaven's rounded more floral designs, etc. These reflect Pantera and Leun's primary weapons respectively.
One motif I'm sure everyone has spotted is the barley pattern that accompanies Pascal (modern inver setting), and one or more of his eyes are usually visible in the bg of any art of him (behind his body)
Tumblr media
3. What ideas come from when you were little?
Another idea - honestly, the holy beasts (the mechs) in general. I was a massive zoids fan as a kid and I used to collect and build them. I was always fascinated by the setting, particularly the contrast between "ancient" advanced mech technology and the humans' relatively low-tech society (in the original anime/toy line). I wanted to make something like that. I still really enjoy contrasts like these. I mean the holy beasts WERE sort of just.. dug up out of the ground, exactly the same as zoids were
7. A medium of art you don’t work in but appreciate
Hrm honestly traditional painting. It's been years since I did it and I don't have the space or time to pick it up (i chose block printing instead) but I love it
11. Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what
If I REALLY want to listen to a certain podcast, I'll often start drawing just so that I'll be able to focus on the podcast and have something to do with my hands at the same time. A lot of my art comes from me just wanting to get through an episode of whatever. In early 2021 that was the magnus archives, these days I'm getting through Candlelit Tales Irish Mythology podcast which i SUPER recommend if you're interested in that kinda thing. It's on spotify
But generally I listen to music. I have a playlist for each setting, and each character in those settings. So if I'm drawing Pascal I'm listening to his playlist which is largely disco these days. Gets me in the mood
anomalydetection asked sanctus-ingenium: 30, 19, 25
30.What piece of yours do you think is underrated
Finbarr & the Moon tarot card!
Tumblr media
This is from before I aged up Finbarr from early 20s to mid 40s lol but you could say this is just him as a kid I suppose. But I really like it and all the details I managed to sneak in, and it was what got me started wanting to draw watery scenes more
19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)
Armour!!!! Who doesn't like armour. I also really enjoy drawing clothing from historical eras. Modern clothing and most futuristic/sci-fi ish takes on clothing are solidly boring to me though.
25. Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by
ohhh god where do I start. I got an ask comparing it to dangan ronpa recently lmao. Bluecifer. Disco Elysium. The Last Unicorn. Nope (2022 movie). I have nothing against any of them and I enjoyed those last three a lot but my art was not inspired by them and has nothing to do with them.
Also western/cowboy stuff in general. A LOT of people tag my horse art with #cowboy or related tags. I don't mind it but it is something that is not on my cultural radar, and not ever at the forefront of my mind when I draw horse things
Tumblr media
3. What ideas come from when you were little
Round 3! Most of the Inver setting is very new (relatively, I mean it has no legacy characters from earlier stuff and I made it all within the past few years) but the decision to use the Púca as the main supernatural entity to base the story on did come from my childhood. My mother used to use Púca interchangeably with Taibhse so there was a lot of talk about him around hallowe'en in general when I was very young. I didn't realise that Púca and Taibhse meant different things until I was older lol but I still associate the Púca with hallowe'en and going out as a kid dressed in a black binbag (I was a scary witch). Because it had this nostalgic connection with my childhood and an era where I believed in scary ghosts and faeries around every corner, it was a very easy decision to make for my Inver setting, where there are in fact scary faeries around every corner

Blog 4: Nature Interpretation through Art and Planning for “All” Scenarios
“Who are you to interpret nature through art? How do you interpret “the gift of beauty”? (Your readings – specifically Chapter 5 of the textbook – will be helpful for this!)”
Honestly, I find this to be a very open question, which makes sense because art is very subjective and has many forms/purposes/interpretations itself. I’m not quite sure the direction in which to approach it, so I will begin by talking about my personal relationship to art. Who am I to interpret nature through art? I would start by saying, from a very young age I have had an eye and appreciation for beauty, specifically within visual arts. My all-time favourite paintings that have likely gotten me into art/inspired me are definitely “The Birth of Venus” by Botticelli and the “Water Lilies” series by Monet!  I always loved drawing and painting, and dedicated a lot of time and effort into perfecting my work. I also had a phase where I wrote a lot of descriptive writing and poetry - fun fact, I actually had a tumblr account dedicated to it. Anyways, a lot of my inspiration for drawing, writing and painting (to this day, when I seldom do watercolour paint) is unsurprisingly, you guessed it - nature. To me, nature is art! The most important part of art for me was always making sure I capture the essence of the scene and depicting its beauty accurately, as well as matching the feelings evoked in my reference. Obviously this isn’t an easy process; it’s almost like translating a sentence between two different languages (or mediums, if you will) - it’s the same idea, but ultimately different in structure. There are so many different forms of art: painting, sculptures, architecture, music, movies, etc.,! However for a piece to really speak to me, it has to evoke some kind of emotion. I have to be able to immerse myself and empathize with the content. I think if art can do that, then it has the potential to speak volumes. Additionally, when combined with a storyline or physical information/facts/events, it can be a really powerful tool for education. In this era, I think art could be a very influential method of educating the public about environmental issues such as colonization, climate change, pollution and non-renewable resource management. So how I would interpret the “gift of beauty”, is the ability of something physical/tangible to evoke emotions in humans and cause appreciation/inspiration of the subject matter. By this definition, art is truly anything and anyone can find meaning in.
Thanks for reading and hopefully you have a great thanksgiving/reading weekend (in an anti-colonialist way), make sure to stay educated on Canadian Indigenous history!

For shockwave!
15. Does this tf character ever make anything creative (e.g. writing, drawing, sculpturing)? If so, do they show other people what they’ve made?
16. What do you think this tf character’s opinions regarding humankind is?
THANK U FOR ASKING!! your ask game is super cool!!
im gonna go with tfp shockwave cause he's my fave. my version of him isnt that scary and evil he's just kind of a guy who likes to play around with science and engineering, doesnt know basic safety, and is bad at socializing. he's still kind of a cartoon type villain tho
15. ohh he's creative for sure. it's not always that obvious, but i do like to think that shockwave likes to create things for fun sometimes. about 98% of the stuff he works on are projects that will help the decepticon cause, but he does occassionally get a spark of creativity and decides to make something for himself. it's not art in a traditional sense, like poetry, music, etc, but it's enough to count as art (in my opinion)
the 'art' he creates may include stuff like: 1) creating little gadgets that have no practical use, they just look cool
2) playing with chemicals just to get some interesting reaction. like putting some liquids together just cause it makes them change colors in a pretty way or something
3) adding decorative designs to his creations, again, simply for the esthetics
ok ok i know these sound silly, but when you think about the fact that shockwave is a serious, 'logical' character and not someone artsy, these little actions DO count as creative! think about it!!
he NEVER shows others, tho. it's not that he's insecure about his craft, it's simply not something that he wants to share. i wouldnt say that the creative things he does are personal (he probably doesnt see any artistic value in his little projects, it's just for fun after all) but his art comes from feelings and thoughts deep within him that even he doesn't like to admit (like idk... the fact that he can be happy and enjoy something? no one should know that! 😡). basically, he's not comfortable showing his creativity to others, unless it's someone he knows for a long time and absolutely trusts, which isnt a lot of people...sigh hes so weird
16. oh he couldn't care less. like, fr. i mean if the decepticons want to transform Earth and eradicate all life including humans then he'll just... go along with it yknow? his main focus is helping megatron, it's all he really cares about....BUT! i do think that there's a chance he COULD develop some sort of care for humanity? i can't say it confidently, but i do think he would be able to connect with humans through his favorite things - science and technology!
human technology is WAY behind cybertronian one, but shockwave might find himself curious about it! well, to be specific, he would find interest in HOW humans came to their discoveries and research. humans are such a small, young species after all! how come they've done and discovered so much in so little time? (this is all relatively speaking lol)
of course, over time he would be interested in more than just human technology. he would also look into human history, art, language...probably anything regarding humans. if he's focused on something, he is focused A LOT. shockwave human hyperfixation real
eventually his slight interest for human science would turn into fascination and later... appreciation? maybe? it would take him a pretty long time and he would definitely need someone or something (preferably a human friend) to convince him to even look into human stuff, since he doesnt view humanity as anything important from the start... but yea! i like to think that this big purple mf would go from "humans small and weak and stupid and unimportant" to "humans small and weak...and kinda cool"
ahhh i can't believe i wrote so much omg.... embarrassing! 😞😞anyway yea shockwave is my fucking fictional fidget toy, whenever i'm bored i poke him and squish him in my brain

palm tree + sage !!
hi dolly!
palm tree ⇢ do you have a fictional villain you shouldn’t like but love regardless?
let's see *checks my database of media real quick* eh the only character I can think of is xue yang, just because he's so unhinged. whx is a real treat to watch, and his scenes were just fantastic. he manages to be fun and amusing despite the truly horrific things he did. and if his performances wasn't enough, the sheer power of wearing cheetah-print robes in a wuxia setting sealed the deal. 10/10 presentation but I AM glad he's dead
sage ⇢ what ‘medium’ of art (poetry, music, fiction, paintings, statues etc.) is the most touching to you? why do you think that is?
oh, I love this question! when I was an edgy high schooler I used to joke that I hated art 😭 this was foolish and short-sighted obviously, I just meant that I don't really care for the types of paintings I would see in museums. obviously I appreciate visual arts like illustration and painting now for its aesthetic and the talent that goes into it, but I can't say it really touches me emotionally. same for most songs, poetry, music....I like sculptures more than most things, but still only in a way where I think it's cool and exciting and not in a way hat I feel like, the deeper meaning of what the artist is trying to say.
my most beloved, most meaningful, and most emotional connections to art has always primarily been through storytelling, whether through animation, comics, movies, tv shows...especially longform works where I can follow a character's trajectory and watch their development. I've seen some very condescending posts about people who treat fictional characters like real people who we like personally and who we believe deserve things, and maybe that means that I'm engaging with stories on a more juvenile level than the other people Consuming Art on here, but that's what fun about it, for me. so I don't really mind? yeah it's cool to step back and see something deeper and keep that distance and objectivity but a lot of the times I like rooting for my little guys and sharing their losses and their joys.
the creation of fictional lives and people gives me that emotional connection to really feel a piece of art. I've certainly never cried at any painting or piece of classical music no matter how beautiful it may be...I just find stories about people to be the richest, most rewarding, most endlessly fascinating type of art to be invested in. from the moment my librarian introduced me to fiction to get me to read something besides animal care booklets, to my current fascination with all the worst fanfic the internet has to offer, I just have the most to say about storytelling, and my engagement in it feels the most rewarding.
as for why....idk. I'm well aware this is the majority of how people interact with fiction on here, so my reasons are probably similar to lots of other people's. I've always struggled to communicate with others, so through fiction I feel like I'm getting that sense of connection, whether I'm discovering how other people perceive the world, or seeing myself in someone else's writing. there's also the escapist appeal, but I don't think I've watched this stuff for escapism in a long time. I just like to feel connected to other people, I guess, and I find that writing and tv and other forms of linear storytelling can deliver the types of character development and engaging plot that I find very rewarding. and sometimes I just want to watch or read something that makes me stand up and walk around like
Tumblr media
and storytelling (manga in particular - I love you yu yu hakusho) has been the only form of art to give me that
what a fun question. thank you!

Mahonia, sage and jasmine for the ask game? 😊 I hope you're having a nice day!!
Get to know me!
Mahonia - what place, thing, activity inspires you most and how do you express yourself when it does?
Hmmm...this is a little difficult to answer because I'm inspired by a LOT of different things, but I think the one overarching theme that inspires a lot of what I do is like...fantasy? It's hard to explain, but a lot of fantastical themes, shows, and ideas inspire me in a lot of my creativity - whether it be creating a magic system for my world, imaging what an urban, modern world with magic would be like, or something as simple as creating one of aus for characters I like!
Sage - what ‘medium’ of art (poetry, music, fiction, paintings, statues etc.) is the most touching to you? why do you think that is?
I don't think there is a specific medium I like most because each type is different and specifically unique in its own way! There are some sculptures and paintings I know wouldn't do well as a written piece and visa versa. The same with music.
Though I will say, poetry has never really been my favorite medium to use for my own self expression. I've never been a huge fan of poetry and even my own poetry that I'm proud of can't really compare to other pieces that I feel much better about. Something about poetry meaning one thing and being translated poorly or incorrectly by a lot of people...bothers me. Especially when it's something personal to myself.
Jasmine - do you have a movie or book you loved but will never watch/read again?
Oh jeez, when I was younger I really liked the Mortal Instruments series of books. Like, I remember reading the entire collection (including the Infernal Devices series but never the Bane Chronicles because I could never find them) and really, really enjoying them. I remember being super excited to see the movie in theaters with my sister - the one who got me into the series.
And it was just...bad. Adaptations don't have to adhere so tightly to the original text but holy shit, it was like they read the synopsis and then made a completely different franchise. The mystique and wonder I felt from the book was gone, the interest I had in it all but fizzled out.
I think I tried to reread the whole series before/while I was in college and it just...wasn't interesting to me. I couldn't understand exactly why I had even been interested in the series in the first place (I know why now but even then...good lord). The amount of just, blatant failure of a white woman trying to write poc characters, lgbt characters, and an actual interesting story that didn't rest so hard on if one character was hooking up with another character was...grating. It felt like character trope after character trope and it's not something I'd ever want to traverse again.

Orchid and sage for the ask meme :)
Hiii! Thanks for the ask!!!!! I just looked at the ask thing a second ago but my memory is ridiculous so if I get it wrong oh well 😐.
Orchid = what song do you consider perfect? Or something along those lines idk idk
Hmmmmmm that’s very difficult I tend to have phases where I get fixated on a certain song and play it over and over again and then kind of forget about it. Idk there’s lots of songs I like but I don’t think I’d say any of them are perfect 🤔 I really like Achilles Come down by whoever did that song I can’t remember and I really really like Fake Your Death by My Chemical Romance. If we’re talking classical music my favourite composer is Shostakovich and I really love his fifth symphony (I think lmao I can’t remember which ones which). Anyway I didn’t really answer the question but who cares we’re just here to have a good time
Sage! I’m pretty sure that one’s ‘what medium touches you the most‘ as in like art, poetry etc things like that
I think I’d definitely say writing for that, I think some things just work best when put into words. I think with writing it’s easier to just have a kind of ‘stream of consciousness‘ if that makes sense, like you can use whatever weird little metaphors and flowery language you like and you can wrangle meaning out of any little thing. I suppose it’s a bit difficult because I also do really love art and even with writing imagery is a bit part of it for me, lots of my favourite books stick with me because of the visceral imagery and lots of times I want to read a book just because I’ve seen a quote and the imagery and writing style stuck with me for example this one quote from Demian by Hermann Hesse something along the lines of ‘all the world is an egg. He who would be born must first destroy a world‘ don’t thing that’s right but something like that and I saw drawings and stuff based on that quote and I was like oh that’s sick and then I read the book (which is very good! The ending’s weird though). So I guess art is a close second because a lot of the time when I’m reading stuff I’m imagining paintings and drawings and stuff in my head to go with it. Also SCULPTURES are amazing we should bring back sculptures I don’t know what it is about them I love them I love them I love them ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery‘ or something like aah idk just taking to time to carve something out of stone idk something about it gets to me
anyway yeah! Probably should have added a bit more punctuation so that this is coherent but yolo whatever
Thanks for the ask! And have a good day :)

14012023 thoughts from bed
i am without my journal. feeling bleh. i had many things i wanted to do that i have not done.
before winter break, i had some thoughts. like. oh, i’ll try to draw over break. and journal, and develop my perception of the world. i have not drawn, i have not journaled. i think i have had some interesting thoughts and observed some things that i will think about. i think i will redownload tumblr so i can collect all my things in one place. maybe i will post this there also.
i hate that i’m so affected by instagram. i think that it plays a consequential role in my feelings of bleh. not that my post didn’t do well, but it still doesn’t really make me happy to think about. i like that it’s there on my profile, but i wish i would stop having thoughts about it beyond that.
my laptop has increasingly become a place where i click the same three buttons and feel nothing inside. my phone use i’m not bothered by. i redid my homescreen so there’s not much there. it’s not like i want to use it, but that sometimes i can’t handle just sitting with myself.
with this much time on my hands, i’m reminded of fall junior year, when i made my first active effort to get off my phone. it was so difficult. but now i don’t have those same instagram rabbit holes i used to. progress isn’t linear, i suppose.
with this much time, i just don’t know what to do. suppose i get off my phone and laptop. well, i guess there’s things to do. i’ve been reading a lot. staring out windows, at ceilings. i really want to play the piano. or draw, or write, or go for a nice walk. but these things require more of me.
i wonder if things would be different if i were alone. i wonder if the bleh comes from the fact that i’m really just here to spend time with my family, and everything else is extra, and sometimes these things are hard to do for reasons i do not wish to control.
i do miss playing the piano. i was never amazing, but i could work hard and be good. and i miss the feeling of having something to work towards, the feeling of craft. i always loved being able to perform a piece, even just for myself. i miss it. and it’s difficult to start again. it’s always difficult to start things just by myself. i still think about that last chopin etude i played.
it’s difficult to start things by myself. that’s why it’s good to have friends, and school. but i feel like i should be a self starter. the only thing i can do by myself is write these personal things that are not meant to be performed anyways. though i do appreciate that. to write without performance is wonderful. it feels almost pure, like breathing. i like this about myself, my ability to write what’s on my mind. even if words don’t capture it all, i’ve tried my best.
and i think i do try my best. did i ever outline goals for 2023? i forget. i only pulled out my journal one time.
i want to draw. i don’t know why. maybe i just want another piano type thing in my life, that’s maybe a bit easier to do on the go. maybe i want to say i draw. maybe i want my doodles to look a little better, or to be able to put my visions down as i see them. the last option makes the most sense. maybe in the future, i will understand these things enough to want to make art, but i doubt it. i feel like i’ve seen an okay amount of art—paintings, sculptures, etc. these things don’t make me feel so deeply though. i mean, just in general. some stuff does make me feel. but for the most part it’s books, movies, music. the natural world. water. more than anything, light. i want to capture light. light and water.
nothing is as striking to me as these two things, although a lot of things about nature are also striking to me. a truly deep breath of fresh air is also very profound.
maybe i start my artistic journey in search of capturing light and water. how they make me feel. i think that makes a lot of sense. like what it feels to stand at the edge of the ocean. to walk into a cold lake. to listen to the sounds and smell the salt. to walk into a room and be struck by the lighting, to look at the trees and see the lush green, to wake up early on a winter morning and be accompanied by nothing but the sun…
it’s really more about what these things bring out in me, isn’t it? is that the point i’m getting at? can’t be sure. trying my best to understand.
i think i should also try to think more about photography. i’ve liked trying to capture things for a while just on my phone, but maybe i should try something more serious. or even just look back at what i have to see what i’ve been doing. i’m gonna buy a hard drive so i can take stuff off my phone and laptop, too. i’m running out of storage.
i should look at the world and think about what i want to capture. in whatever it is i do. the next step is figuring out how. or maybe just learning basic skills first.
i kind of hate how much more i can write when i write on my phone. i think it’s even better than when i type on my laptop, too. it feels more honest. i love the feeling of pen on paper, but it does tire me out. maybe that’s why i was into voice recordings for a while.
i feel better already after typing all this. it feels like i’m with myself again. it’s so difficult to be truly alone. even now, i’m not really alone. i checked my email once while writing this. but i’m less alone lately. it’s nice, very nice, but it makes me feel a bit like i have nothing for myself. i guess reading helps with that, too.
for now, my main purpose is to enjoy time spent with family. i really shouldn’t worry about all this. it stays in the background. time with these people is precious. and so is rest. i forgot to mention, i’m in a period of rest.

“this place feels like home”
A/N: someone mentioned it, so here i am
WHAT THE HOGWARTS COMMON ROOMS LOOK LIKE, IN MY CLEARLY SUPERIOR OPINION...
gryffindor common room
i’m no interior decorator, and i’m betting godric gryffindor wasn’t either, so it looks like a glorified man cave
lots of designated areas for just hanging out, a huge, central fireplace, lots of open places perfect for pulling your wand on someone to duel, but very cluttered in other areas where you are meant to be close for house bonding!
secondly, there are a total of like, 4 desks you can use to work on, and they’re pushed to the walls, the chairs constantly stolen for something or another.
the main focus of the gryffindor common room is the couches and chairs
there’s a recliner that some muggle-born student brought in, and when they first kicked it out the purebloods went absolutely feral
they don’t know how it works, but they love it
there are so many radios... gryffindor has the best sound system for any kind of party. the other houses have to use charms to get the sound evenly distributed, but gryffindors just use their like, 10 different radios
there are a lot of spare pillows and blankets, but they don’t exactly have a place to go - they’re usually just thrown on the back of the couches or cast to the floor.
sometimes the 1st years will play “the ground is lava” and it’s vvv sweet
the ceiling has constellations mapped onto it, and they’re actually accurate. using your wand, you can “shift” the sky and it’s a really effective way to get your astronomy homework done
harry didn’t notice it because he’s as observant as a doorknob
the most chaotic thing about the gryffindor common room is the fact that there are real swords and battle axes on the wall, all of which belonged to godric gryffindor himself
students will 100% try to use them as jokes, but they can never manage to actually grab them? their hands just go right through them like they aren’t real
but if you approach them with nothing but wonder and reverence, when you reach out, you can most definitely feel them, and they are real
i really just want someone to have picked up a battle axe during the battle at hogwarts, now
there are a couple of portraits that give life advice, but most of them are #tired and leave their portraits to go visit others because the common room can get so crazy
the amount of animals this common room has,,,, i sure do hope you’re not allergic
there are lizards, rats, toads, cats, tarantulas...
if you’re afraid of any of them, tell your classmates when you’re still a first or second year and the whole of gryffindor tower will rally behind you to make the other person put their animal in their dormitory
there always seems to be leftover food from a party, so you’re well fed.
and if you’re from another house, this is the easiest house to steal food from.
oh, and the carpet (because YEAH, someone put in carpet with some kind of magic) does not match the furnishings at all.
minimalists cry at the sight of this common room
slytherin common room
first of all!!!! this common room has a glass ceiling because someone else came up with this idea and it is legendary
they mentioned the merfolk help with classes! they know sign language! i am very here for it.
then,,, there is an entire section of the common room that is dedicated to games - checkers, chess, poker, solitaire, even some muggle board games
it’s how they foster community. friendly competition is everything to slytherins and slytherins can actually do friendly competition, unlike ravenclaws
at lot of purebloods are still trying to win risk. it confuses them so much.
there’s probably a cat or two in this common room
they actually get along fairly well with the owls, but every so often snape has to come in and stop then from attacking each other and it would be hilarious if he weren’t so intimidating
there’s a lot more space in this common room, or maybe it’s just set up as to give the illusion of more space. either way, the slytherins are more spread out.
they don’t like breathing on each other
the gothic aesthetic does exist, but it’s not all gloomy because some intelligent slytherin’s know that’s bad for mental health.
they probably have a fourth of the room (maybe in a corner) that’s a little more lighted and cozy, with the most supportive portraits in that area
the slytherin common room has bean bags
this was a later addition, ofc, seeing as there is no way in hell salazar slytherin would ever allow that to happen
but everyone loves them a whole lot. 1st years always beeline for them
and slytherin was a good interior decorator, so we have the perfect ratio of portraits to wall space and the amount of lamps is actually palatable.
and there might be a dramatic hamlet skull on a table or two, but they’re not real - just decor. sometimes slytherin’s use them for pranks.
there’s actually a fair bit of communal property, too? like, there’s a lot of blankets, a bookshelf, and a table that always has food on it because the dungeons are hella far away from the kitchens and many slytherins like a good midnight snack
the slytherins actually talk more to ghosts than the other houses - ghosts like to hang out in the dungeons, and the amount of ghost jokes that the slytherins know is incredible
a group of hufflepuffs swear they once heard professor binns laugh at a ghost joke one of the slytherin’s retold
the snake iconography of this room is so high - it would honestly be a little unnerving if everyone wasn’t just used to it.
there’s probably a game going around where someone will conjure up an extra snake decoration and every week the first and second years are trying to find out which one it is
sometimes a very tired 5th year will give you a hint
there’s not a space that’s specifically designated for studying, but you can often find space in a few different places.
the desks are always being used for games, like i mentioned above, but someone had introduced the idea of lap desks and slytherins love that so much.
ravenclaw common room
this is the most minimalist of the common rooms in decor and style, but there’s so much happening at all times that it never looks bare
and a fair few ravenclaws are BIG about organization, so this is one of the more compartmentalized common rooms
it’s also formatted this way because the studious ravenclaw has threatened the musically inclined ravenclaw, saying that they will not hesitate to sabotage the other’s saxophone if they ever hear careless whisper while trying to study for n.e.w.t.s again.
also, i just want to say that ravenclaw house is probably one of the most diverse houses because creativity is so broad, and that combined with their individualistic streak means that community is a little less strong in this house, but there’s a place for everyone
i have no doubt that someone has enchanted the common room to expand on the inside, so it has much more room than say gryffindor common room or hufflepuff common room.
they’re also big about making boundaries - there’s probably actual walls and doors between different areas.
like, one for studying, one for art (like drawing and painting), one for music, etc.
also, you would think this is a quiet common room but you would be wrong.
the quiet ones are slytherin and hufflepuff. gryffindor and ravenclaw are both p chaotic.
except for the quiet room, which is as silent as they come. if you need quiet inspiration, you go there. it’s also the study room, though, so when you’re struck with inspiration, you have to keep quiet.
now, ravenclaws like to keep what is theirs, but they do have some communal property, mostly in the form of books and materials like typewriters and art supplies (although some people are very territorial about their brushes. it’s a toss up.)
there’s a floor to ceiling window that can actually be opened up - kind of like doors. the ravenclaws have it instead of the gryffindors because they have self control and won’t jump out the window without a sure plan of survival.
there’s also statues and busts! rowena ravenclaw was decent at interior design, and she loved sculpture - maybe she had a sculptor lover at one point? who knows? there’s just a lot of busts in ravenclaw tower
no doubt they’re enchanted to give advice or tbh just to gossip. i imagine there’s a lot of gossip in ravenclaw tower
the walls are painted in some places. it’s a rule that you don’t paint over other people’s art, but the paint is also enchanted so that if you look closely, you can see the name of who has painted what, and ravenclaws are too proud to do idiotic things like drawing crude doodles on the walls.
the only person to ever paint on the ceiling is luna lovegood, and she was commissioned to do so after her time at hogwarts.
there’s also a chalkboard wall for when you’re studying and need to write things down to think. beware, though, because your work can and will be erased.
you can also write on the large window i talked about! muggle students have brought dry erase markers and they are much needed.
oh, and ravenclaws have a lot of owl access - they owls like to stop at ravenclaw tower for treats and whatnot, and ravenclaws definitely use this to their advantage. they have priority for mail service and it’s a win tbh.
hufflepuff common room
now helga hufflepuff was no interior decorator either, but she was a homemaker, so we all know that this common room is the most home-like of the bunch
first of all, there are potted plants everywhere. hufflepuffs are known to be good at herbology, and that tradition means there are a whole lot of life in this common room
there’s also a curious amount of sunlight, too, despite being in the basement. i’m not exactly sure how it’s done, but the common room has actual sunlight - it’s important for the plants.
i also imagine there’s one wall that is a long mirror. you can use it for whatever you like, introspection, self affirmations, or reflecting light or whatever, but helga thought it was important to always be aware of yourself.
muggle students have brought sticky notes and now the mirror if full of them - little reminders, little motivations, fun quotes, jokes, etc.
there’s also a lot of couches and desks. the desks are usually very cluttered, but you can always find space for your stuff, somehow. and the couches are the softest at hogwarts, gryffindors have been trying to steal them for years.
also, the marauders were incredibly presumptuous, thinking they had found all of the secret passageways in the castle - there are at least 3 secret passages that only hufflepuffs know about and it’s one of the best kept secrets at hogwarts. they all connect to the common room.
and as initiation, on their first night as hufflepuffs, first years traverse secret passageways in the dark trying to figure out where they lead, all of them having to work together to figure out the lumos spell for some light.
and one of those passageways leads to the kitchens. it’s how they get the best food for parties. hufflepuffs often put in requests for what they want at breakfast or dinner.
this is also the warmest common room. i’m not exactly sure how it’s done, but the common room is never cold - maybe a little chilly, but not cold enough that you need a sweater.
the flooring is carpet, but parts of it are hard wood - it’s clear it used to be carpet, but was stained beyond repair from a broken pot or two.
there is toad supremacy in the hufflepuff common room. there’s probably one or two toads that don’t have real owners but are treated as the house pets.
there’s also a few paintings - all of them are smaller because there’s so much going on in this common room already, the walls have to be mellow to account for everything else, but there’s a couple and all of them like to tell jokes and give really good advice.
two of the newer (and favorite) additions include cedric diggory and tonks. they both get along quite well, although tonks is more mischievous and cedric is more down to earth.
cedric will often tell you how to charm a professor, if you ask, and he might give answers to homework questions to favorite students.
similar to gryffindor common room, there’s a lot of cozy areas that encourage students to chat with each other and spend time together.
but similar to slytherin, there is a lot of games about - they involve less strategy and more fun (like hide and go seek or charades) - but games is a bonding strategy that hufflepuffs utilize.
AND FLUFF ENSUES.

Interview with my friend A.L. Crego
I have not met A.L. Crego.  I have not spoken with him on the phone, in fact I do not even know what he looks like.  But I can confidently call him my friend.  Three years ago when I started this blog he immediately disagreed with me in the comments about things I was writing and I loved it.  As a person putting ideas out there, you treasure things like that....because you know someone cares.  We have had many back and forth discussions over the years....if we had lived in Paris in 1911 we would be having arguments at La Rotonde (not to compare either of us to Picasso).
A.L. Crego is a motion artist who does a wide variety of things.  He has now become a very visible and active figure in the NFT Movement.  He recently completed a large and very successful project in which he animated the work of a number of well know street artists on the building themselves, something he has done for years.  His Tumblr page is a good place to start to see his work, which is largely surrealist in nature -- another Spanish artist following in the footsteps of other great Spanish surrealist artists.

How long have you been creating gif art?
In a conscious and intentional way since 2014. Previously I haven't pay too much attention on one hand for its common use that was mostly ads and funny little videos, and on the other hand because it was a 'standard' format we accepted as something part of the web so I never stopped to analyze its potential. The key point for me was about 2010-2011 when the concept of 'Cinemagraph' was brought to life just giving it a name. It's format is .gif but its characteristics are different so I saw there the midpoint between photography and video, which gave born another format of art.
Art mutates when a new format appears. I was using and studying this format since then but it wasn't until 2014 that I decided to publish some of them.
What is your background?
In general terms, bachelor, 2 years of stone sculpting and two attempts of photography and audiovisual mediums. I say attempts because I gave up both of them as I was feeling that I was looking for something else more than studying all the previous history, style and isms, which is nice to understand where everything comes from and to be aware what are the key points on the history to use as reference, as a map. But in some way I felt limited as I was using digital tools since I had my first computer with 14 years, and I was being taught things I learnt by then. Even more in this times we are living where we are 21 century people, been taught by teachers from the 20 with 19 century methods.
A constant line that feeds my background is literature and music overall and later Street Art, next to more temporal interests as everything related with mythology, alchemy, history, psychology, neurology, biology, human condition in general... I don't have studies buy I'm a studying guy!
I always like to highlight that all these years that internet got strong and social networks appeared, I decided voluntary to be out of them. First reason was to keep my privacy safe in a growing world where it seemed that some "curtain" felt and everybody accepted that intimacy was now 'ex-timacy' and correct to show their private life, (this shocked me). Another reason was about the psychological effect that social networks were having on people I had around and everywhere in general. I started to notice patterns and "waves" about series, aesthetics, styles, and I was seeing clearly that if I go there, I will become permeable to all this "Amniotic Culture" I was trying to avoid.
This fact of being far (but study them closely) helped me a lot about researching and developing my own ideas and style, for the mere fact that I was using all this time and attention Social Networks require, on drinking from another sources. The B-side of this is that I was 'out of the radar' of mass people as this social networks are designed to live inside them. My idea of internet and spreading ideas is not in this way.
Where do you live and work?
In the north west of Spain, Galicia. Now due to Covid I travel less but before it, I was working and traveling many places as I only need a camera and a computer. This allows me move to work anywhere.
Do you think that animated gifs are a new art form?
I think so, despite the fact that the format existed since 1987. But as every new format of art it takes its time to be considered as art. The first photographs were not considered art until many years later. Same happened with film, same with CGI. Is nice to have in mind that gif format is the last strictly digital format of the three main ones on the web: picture, video and gif. Photography has about 200 years of history, video about 130, CGI about 60. Finally gif has 33, and used as art itself no more than 10-15. In the same way anybody takes a picture of anything does not convert it into art, is the same with gifs. One thing is the format, another is the 'art'. Everybody can take a picture, record a video or do a gif. The difference is on the how, the why, and from my point of view overall, the what.
Do you think that there is a difference between pure .gif files and the .mp4 files that people post on Instagram?
The first, big and obvious difference is the format. Is not the same a painting as a picture of a painting. Here happens the same. For example, if you treat a gif with Cinemagraph technique, you are converting in picture some parts of the image, so they still remain and with the texture and totally stillness of a picture. If you convert this gif into a mp4 this still parts, despite not having motion, will convert into a video texture (noise, subtle motion in pixels, etc) so the main characteristic, among the perfect loop, is lost. Another point is that you must play a video, a gif is always running. Waterfalls are always running and this characteristic is something that is inside our human nature, we react nice to "bucle" motions as waterfalls, fire, etc. We find pleasure on this. Of course if it's a video the perfect loop is lost and the visual mantra disappear. And another key point here is the soundtrack. In a video you can use sound to enhance or give another meaning to the piece that you can't with gifs. For me this is another characteristic that give meaning to gif. For me gif is silence, the sound is generated by the motion, the melody are the details and the beat the perfect loop. You can "hear" almost every gif.
The difference between a gif and a video is the same that between a waterfall and a hose (if this works).
What do you think are the characteristics of good gif art?
For me first and overall the perfect loop. Not using it is not using the only format that has this characteristics. Of course there can be gif art that is not perfect loop, but from my point of view and in my work is a must. It's a new way not only of creating but also of thinking. Imagine an still scene is easy, imagine an A-B point action is easy. For me the challenge is about thinking an idea that is perfect looped where all the elements interact and eventually come back to its initial point. Succeed doing this is where the perfect loop appears and you are not able to find where is the start point of the action. Like a visual mantra, that it's repetition leads you inside the piece. Gif art is nice to use the power of the hypnotic movements. Another point to have in mind for me is the flow of it, the frame rate I mean. Depending on the idea and the kind of animation this should vary; is not the same fps to achieve something with flow than if you want to achieve a more 'retro' old style. Another thing is about dithering and color palette. This second one is essential to understand as it affects the final file. When we work with photo and video we are using millions of colors but when rendered as gifs all the gradients, lights and even colors will change if there is a previous understood of this point.
As summary: If motion doesn't add, change of enhance the meaning of the piece, is expendable.
I'd would like to add that I'm not really supporter of this kind of gifs generated automatically that just move a still image itself. I understand that this 'technique' is used as a tool for certain motion (I use it) but not to move a whole image. I feel the same as if somebody hold a painting in front of me and moves it randomly. If the work was born still, it must remain still. A good example of 'inner motion', this means that the motion is implicit on the image despite not being in motion, are the photographs of Cartier Bresson for example. Giving motion to this pictures for example, will kill it because it will break the concept of 'perfect instant' .
'Instant' differs etymologically from 'moment' in the motion. So, still image (painting, photo, sculpture, etc) is an instant, videos are stories with a-b point, and gifs are moments, the mid point.
How would you describe your gif art?
I usually condense it as "Visual Mantras", as the technique and the aesthetic vary depending on the idea , but in all of them the perfect loop and the intention of hypnotizing is always present.
In another terms about aesthetics and themes I think ‘Industrial Nature’ can fit nice. I use a lot of industrial elements but I like to mix their mechanics with the biological natural ones.
How long have you been creating and selling NFTs?
I am selling NFTs since mid 2019, but it wasn't until October 2020 that I focused more on it and dug into the ecosystem to find new paths to focus my work.
Do you think that NFTs are a positive for gif artists?
For me, and the main reason I jumped into cryptoart and NFT, is that now I can certify my digital work as original. Even more to gif works as they were always understood as something banal and minor for the context of its born. Gif art was born prostituted, used mostly for ads and to claim our attention on the internet, next to the highest glamour of painting and traditional art, and 3d, photography and video these last decades. Even worst if we realize that gif format was the only visual format born by and for the internet.
NFTs are totally positive for gif artists because despite being a digital/online native format it never had its own ecosystem to live in. I feel that I was creating creatures for an ecosystem I was waiting to drop them there. Now with the blockchain, NFTs and cryptoart, I found the place where they can live, being watched by everybody and have the certify that is my work. Until some months ago my work was "free" on the web and I had no control over it at all. This was a huge problem I was suffering since my first month into gif art as people use it indiscriminately with no credit at all. It's ok, and I always defend that my work is to be seen, to be shared, but I was looking for the way to be able to have this link with my work without losing the option of being available for everybody. NFT totally changes this.
What do you think will happen in the future as NFTs get even more popular?
In general terms I think it will happen the same as when print got more popular. People will use it more, a lot of crazy and useless things will appear, tons more of different uses and useful purposes, (not only on art). This opens a new door a lot of people was waiting so the future is unpredictable but we can feel where things are going. NFT arrived to stay and the concept of decentralization is something that was always present on the internet since first days but born inside a centralized system. NFTs are being a way for people to understand the 'peer to peer' philosophy and this makes people think in different codes, so we can expect a lot of new horizons, in art, music, design...
What do you think of the environmental impact of NFTs?
This question can goes really deep but in general terms I think that is something that is being oversized due to the hype and the boiling point we are, and it's understandable because is not false that it has an environmental impact, as everything does. But on the other hand I have two main areas in mind. The first and the obvious from my point of view is that when something is new and developing is less efficient, in the way that it requires more effort to achieve the result. But at the same time, the more this technology is used the more is developed and all this issues are part of it. The first car was not electric.
The second point that usually reverberates in my mind and that it seems that 'hard critics' omit is that they are not having in mind that this NFTs we mint, give us a profit that can be used offline to do another things that can be useful to solve this problem, for example, investing part of this money on living on our own in a minimal and clean way (not working for huge multinational that their environmental impact is tons times more than NFTs and then being part of an ONG to feel clean) and on using part of this money on looking and researching new ways to mint and to keep this digital ecosystem more efficient and clean. Every development needs time.

I just read the Erwin date scenarios and it’s so hood AGH could you please do one for armin? Plz 😚
You read my mind👀 ngl I think about Armin each time I write something for Erwin, despite them being alike i like to compare the differences and think they have different tastes and love languages.
Erwin strikes me a more act of services and gift giving guy while Armin would definitely go for words of affirmation and quality time.
Type of dates with Armin PT.1 {pt.2 in masterlist}
{ Armin x reader | tw: none | fluff, romance | modern }
Tumblr media
{ "in bloom" by Abbott Fuller Graves 1859–1936 }
Ideal dates : these are dates he plans up ahead, makes sure they go smoothly and you're both are having fun. He really looks forward to these dates, they're like an event for him. He saves them up for important occasions like your anniversary, valentine's day, birthday, etc.
1. Spending a full day on the beach: when i say a full day I mean it, he's driving you there really early in the morning while you're struggling to stay awake in the passenger seat. He doesn't even need coffee he's running on 100% pure determination and will.
You'd arrive before anyone there, to get the best spot of course. It's close enough to the sea that you can feel the humidity of the water in the air, yet far enough from the rest of the beach that other people won't bother you.
He'd understand if you were too sleepy to help him set things up, he'd just kiss your forehead before letting you go back to sleep, promising he'll get you something to drink when the stores open.
You wake up to the smell of your favourite hot drink, just around 8am. The sun is up and the air is refreshing, you can hear the quiet chatter of people far away just arriving here. You sip your drink as Armin guides you to the small comfortable space he made, proudly showing off his work.
Please praise him and give him a kiss on the cheek, he will melt.
The rest of the day is spent with you two swimming lazily in the water, feeling the warm sunlight on your skin. Collecting whatever pretty seashell you see, using some to decorate the sandcastle Armin built with you. He takes a pictures of you at seemingly random moments, he promises to show you when he devolps them later.
You help him dry his hair afterwards, he take you to get ice cream. Despite getting you one too, he still ends up sharing his own with you, and if you're up for seconds he'd happily oblige.
When night falls and the people began leaving, the waves of the ocean get a little higher, wind turning colder. Don't worry, Armin thought about that, that's why he brought blankets.
He'd wrap you both in the same one, even holding you close to him, it's for warmth he says and yet he seems like he was looking forward for this. You help him in making a small bonfire, he brought marshmallows.
The rest of the night is spent with you laying against him while huddled in a blanket, looking at the heavens above and the constellation of the stars.
He takes your hand in his, guiding your finger to where polaris is. "It never changes" he says "no matter what" and from that star, he guides you through the formation of the little dipper.
Just right under it, directly under the polaris, begins the big dipper, a close replica to its little sister.
You spend hours like this, looking at the stars as new formations come and go with the time. You were early enough to catch Aries as it was leaving, pleiades, the seven sisters shining brightly next to it.
And just after midnight it was Sirius turn to say goodbye. That's when both of you decided to call it a night, he hugged you close to him, you could feel his heartbeat slowing down, he was oh so warm and tasted just like chocolate and marshmallows when you kissed goodnight.
2. Going on an adventure and trying new things: Armin has the need to try new things and gain new experiences, despite being someone who prefers small groups of friends and getting lost in a book than socialising. It's something that's been a part of him since he was a child, he wants to experience what the world has to offer and won't say no despite how utterly terrifying it can be to him.
And he wants to have those experiences with you, to share his love for the unknown with you, to see your reactions and share his own thoughts. The only thing that's better than going on adventures to him is going on adventures with you.
An adventure could be anything really, it could be going diving underwater or going to that creepy looking supermarket that never closes, you never know. An adventure is an adventure after all. The possibilities are endless.
So don't be surprised when he asks for you to go with him sky diving for his birthday despite knowing how terrfied he is of heights and how even a carnaval ride can make him sick.
Good or bad he doesn't care, he just wants to try and learn everything. He's full of curiosity and surprises that you'd never get bored, although a good thing about him is that he never is unprepared.
Yes he will take you on seemingly dangerous adventures but know that he really deeply thought about this before hand and is prepared for all the different scenarios that could happen, he likes the unknown but he's smart and cautious on how to approche it.
Not to mention that a single adventure can leave him satisfied for a long time before craving a new rush, probably once or twice a year. Just frequent enough to be something to look forward to but not too frequent that it becomes boring or too repetitive, he manages to keep that balance and walk on that thin line.
3. Hot air ballon ride: just imagine, it's early autumn, the weather is just right to wear those cozy yet good looking clothes, the earth seems like it's turning slower than usual as the trees change colours.
Around sunrise or sunset, both of you are high up in the air, the sun clearly in view with the golden clouds surrounding it. The world managing to look so small yet so vast at the same time.
Armin is wearing his favourite sweater and scarf combo, he's holding your hand in his pocket to keep it warm. It's just you and him isolated from the rest of the world like other people dont exist anymore, and strangely he's okay with that, at peace even.
He brings a camera and captures how the sun reflects in your eyes, how the chilly air makes you rub your hands together for warmth and how utterly breathtaking you look.
Beautiful, gorgeous even, these are the only thoughts in his mind at that moment.
And so Armin made a promise to himself that in the far future, when he wants to be even closer to you, to vow his life to yours, he'd propose on a hot air balloon.
But as much as he likes staying up in the air with you being his angel, the process of booking a ride is much more complicated and time consuming than he originally thought. Meaning he doesn't get to enjoy these rare heavenly moments as he wants to.
He needs to make reservations in advance, not to mention how important it is to choose a trustworthy company. Lastly how rides depend on the weather conditions, needing to reschedule if the weather takes a turn to the worse.
4. Visiting the aquarium or planetarium: he's just a boy with oceans for eyes and stars in his smile, can you really blame him for gravitating towards these places? Or for diving too deep in knowledge about the sky above and sea below?
Whenever the weather is too harsh for a beach trip or the sky is too cloudy for a stargazing night, these two places are his to go backups.
He's memorised the place like the back of his hand, no need for a map. Want to see the shark tanks and how they're doing? He'll take you there and introduce to them and the silly nicknames he gave them. Or how about saying hello to the dolphins who'll show off some moves just for your attention, or maybe you miss seeing the adorable penguins wobble around?
He knows endless facts about each fish kind, he makes it seem so fascinating and the way he phrases the information and coats them in milk and honey makes it impossible for you not to engage.
You both could have a slow with few words spoken walk and it still be as interesting, he'd even make special playlists to listen to while walking around and sharing his earphones.
Meanwhile at the planetarium, sometimes in the early mornings you'd run into kids just arriving for their school trip. Racing each other to the solar system panel and looking in amazement when the stars show begins. You and Armin have a nostalgic feeling when watching them, yet when you look at each other you remember how good it feels like to be grown and have someone special.
You never could get bored of seeing the stars, especially not with Armin.
5. Trying a new kind of art: one time you asked him what does he think the meaning of art is, what even is art?
"Art is communication" he said.
Armin has a deep love and appreciation for all kind of art, from classic oil canvas paintings to old greek sculptures. He doesn't pick a side, he likes both the modren and classic.
Music is art, writing is art and even making pottery is a form of art too. He wants to experience it, not for a need to acolmplish something or to rival Shakespeare, but for a need to communicate his emotions in a more subtle and personal way.
Like a secret language only he can decipher the meaning of, after all he was the one to create it.
Whenever he tries a new form of art, his usual fear of failure and absurdly high expectations actually go out the window. There isn't good and bad art, there's just different levels of communication and different styles.
So to him, the act of bringing you both some watercolours and cotton papers to paint on for a date is incredibly intimate, that's his true feelings and emotions he's showing you. But don't worry, he isn't here to take the whole thing seriously, he's actually playful and mellow most of the time.
Or maybe he'd like to make pottery with you, an excuse to put his hands around yours while sitting intimately close, maybe even give your shoulder a couple kisses while you shape the vase you agreed on making.
The next day, you find the finished vase near the window with a sunflower arrangements inside.
It also could be you two sitting next to each other, working together on a page of an adult colouring book or maybe to each one his own book. He'd hog the color blue most of the time so watch out, and don't lend him yours because he will hog it too.
Or maybe as a fun past time, you'd both attempt to make poetry, expect you're getting more and more drunk on the fruit flavoured beer he brought with him. You had fun laughing while reading what you came up with the next morning.
6. Going fruit picking in summer: it's his favourite way to celebrate the arrival of his favourite season, wear something light, pack some lemonade and go enjoy what mother nature has to offer.
You two would walk around in the fields, he's wearing a straw hat to block the sun, he thinks it looks better on you. Both of you looking at the fruits waiting to be picked, choosing the really unique shaped ones, the colourful ones and the especially delicious looking ones.
You might meet some small friends along the way, like a couple ladybugs that were crawling up Armin's arm. Two butterflies dancing in the air and even a frog that's taking a walk from its lake home nearby.
Going home that day with baskets full of different fruits waiting for your use, Armin and you discuss all the different ways you could use them for, like making delicious smoothies, or maybe saving them for baking a pie or cake. Maybe cutting them in small bites and covering them with different kinds of chocolate, maybe just making a fruits salad to enjoy while Armin reads you a book
Or maybe, maybe just washing them and eating them raw. Yeah that option sounds the most appealing after a day of walking through fields in the sun.
He'd feed you some, push them against your lips and smile when your eyes subtly light up at the sweet taste....maybe a kiss after so he could taste it too?

So I’ve been kinda dancing around my original story idea for a little while, and I got this idea in my head of ‘what if I release chapter 1 and then get feedback without telling anyone what the story is about first so it’s more of a surprise?’ But honestly? I’m realizing since I already released a preview-of-a-preview for chapter 1, and it might be a little while until I finish chapter 1, plus I honestly kinda feel like I’d rather work on sketches of my character designs than write at the moment, I might as well go ahead and tell you guys. X’3
So! I watched a couple anime recently both centered around the premise of... monster girls! These being Monster Musume and Monster Girl Doctor, but then I noticed there’s also Interviews with Monster Girls, A Centaur’s Life, and the infamous Interspecies Reviewers, and I asked myself... Monster girls are pretty popular right now, yeah? But where’s all the monster boys?! And that’s how I got the idea! I re-watched some of my favorite anime based on Otome Games, Kamigami no Asobi and Uta no Prince Sama for inspiration as well, and a few ones I hadn’t seen before like Dance with Devils and Magic-kyun Renaissance for inspiration as well.
So now I’ve got my premise that I shared earlier: This is the story of Millie, a young woman down on her luck who happens to live in a world where monsters aren’t just real, but commonplace. She started working as a maid in a mansion-turned-art-school whose students are a group of very attractive monster boys. The twist is that these aren’t just any monster boys; they belong to various rare and exotic species with deadly reputations...
Note that character and place names are technically place-holders for now and may change if I come up with better ones. Now, I don’t wanna spoil anything story-wise, but I think I can introduce my setting and some of the characters that you’re gonna meet. The story is set in a modern setting, though it’s vague if it’s actually Earth or just some generic world similar to it, as I try to avoid referencing real-world places or events. This is a world where humans and monsters live together after a Great Interspecies War happened in the past, but tensions have mostly relaxed by the time the story takes place. The war could be thought of as the equivalent of our own World War One, one in which there was a truce decided after many years of stalemate fighting.
The city everything takes place in is tentatively named Dullahan, and was built directly after the war to commemorate peace between human and monster kind. It’s considered an artistic cultural center, and it’s got a lot of interesting entertainment places to go to, arcades, theaters, aquariums, etc, that the characters can have a lot of different shenanigans in. The other main setting is the Beaufort Academy of the Arts, which was actually a mansion that was converted into a small private school. This is where all the characters live, and our main character Millie works as a maid there.
Before I go into the characters, I should start with the various monster species. There are 12 species, divided into 2 groups: common monsters and exotic monsters. The common monsters are centaurs, harpies, lamias (snake people), kobolds (dog people), ogres, and merrows (mermaids). These species are all pretty standard, and will be mostly background characters and npcs. The main characters, and love interests for Millie, will be of the exotic variety: arachnes (spider people), sirens (deep-sea mermaids), mandrakes (plant people), dragons, manticores (with a liontaur body-type), and scyllas (octopus people).
So what differentiates a common monster from an exotic one? Well, while the Interspecies War was between humans and monsters in general, some monsters were already at least partially integrated into human society, and the rest followed soon after the war ended. These monsters were almost as common as humans, and either herbivorous or omnivorous, with the exception of the carnivorous lamias who prefer to eat eggs over anything else. On the other hand, the so-called ‘exotic’ species were not only much more rare, but they had a very different food preference... one which earned them the now derogatory nickname... man-eaters.
Naturally, most ‘man-eaters’ weren’t exactly welcomed into human --nor common monster-- society with open arms, not that most of them wanted to. For the most part, species as powerful and dangerous as them didn’t want to play nice with those they had once --and in some cases still do-- regard as prey, and so hid away into the furthest reaches of the world. Which of course makes them perfect material for all our leading men and Millie’s various love-interests!! Oh yes, while all of these monster boys are perfectly civilized --well, for the most part-- they still belong to species that many both human and monster alike continue to fear to this day. While they aren’t exactly fish out of water (well, except for the siren) there’s still plenty of awkward misunderstandings and interesting scenarios that can be played out.
So! Let’s have a quick run-down of the characters, keep in mind that none of these names are final and could change later on. First there’s Millie, a hardworking young woman who’s had a recent streak of bad luck. Through a misunderstanding she gets hired as a maid in a mansion-turned-art-school. She’s very sweet and tries her best to help others, but she’s not as innocent as she appears; she’ll understand your innuendos just fine, even if she doesn’t really say any herself! Next is Richard and Lara Beaufort, a husband and wife who run the school. Richard is rather laid-back, yet he’s also a master of all kinds of art, painting, sculpture, photography, dancing, singing, you name it! Lara is his arachne wife, a rather boisterous woman who owns a high-class fashion company. The secret to her clothing’s success?? Arachne silk, of course! The school was her idea, a way to help better integrate exotic species into society. Will her mission succeed? Only time can tell.
Richard and Lara have a son named Simon, our first love interest and a human-arachne hybrid who takes almost entirely after his mother in the looks-department (hybrids tend to look like one species or the other, rather than a mix of both). He’s a bit withdrawn due to dealing with bullying as a kid; most people --human and monster alike-- are afraid of his spider-like appearance, so he doesn’t get out much-- to the point his parents worry about him being a shut-in for life! He’s also a gamer boy, and has a secret soft side for gothic poetry, although he doesn’t want to join his parents’ art classes. He actually disapproves of his mother’s exotic species integration plan, as from what he’s experienced he feels it’s a waste of time.
Simon’s best friend and Millie’s second love interest is Louis, a mandrake who lives in the woods behind the manor. Louis is extremely shy and more than a bit lonely, even more so than Simon, and he doesn’t speak very often out of fear that the sound of his voice will hurt others around him. Mandrake screams can induce insanity or even kill those that hear them, hence his fear. Being part plant, Louis has mild shape-shifting abilities and is able to transform between child and young adult forms at will, although he’s actually the oldest of the group. He also isn’t a student at the art school, although he has an interest in floristry.
Now for our actual students! Forrest is a manticore, which in this world means he has a body similar to that of a centaur, but with the lower half of a lion instead of a horse, and a scorpion-like tail tipped with a deadly venomous stinger. Despite his species’s name literally meaning ‘man-eater’, Forrest is extremely friendly and cheerful, and is very sporty too. His passion is photography, and he also loves eating food-- any sort of meat dish is fine by him! He’s also a fan of fantasy tabletop roleplaying games, and will often make references comparing them to everyday life; he always plays the knight who saves the princess!
Anthony is a childhood ‘friend’ of Forrest’s, though he’s loathe to admit it. Highly intelligent and highly snobbish, Anthony fancies himself an intellectual-- and he’s not exactly wrong. Being a dragon, he likes to hoard things-- in his case, knowledge. Anthony loves to read, and is most often found in the library. His skill is in drawing and painting, and all his paintings’ invariably morose subject matter worry Millie. Still, this haughty dragon could definitely learn to loosen up a little, and be a little more kind; perhaps his stay at the academy --and his interactions with Millie-- will open his mind to appreciating the feelings of others. He does, at the very least, greatly respect Master Beaufort as a master of the arts.
The other two students are denizens of the sea, and have been friends for a very long time. Emil is a scylla, and like all scyllas he’s a little eccentric, and just can’t seem to keep his tentacles to himself! While Forrest is obsessed with eating, Emil’s true calling is cooking, and he loves making all kinds of dishes, especially anything seafood and/or foreign. Emil also is highly appreciative of women’s fashion, and absolutely adores everything to come from Madam Beaufort’s clothing brand-- so much so that he actually wears them himself! His pretty-boy looks and penchant for wearing women’s clothing actually has Millie mistake him for a girl at first, though he’s very much unafraid to show her his romantic side, or at least what he interprets as romantic...
Keeping Emil’s pervy antics in check is our sixth and final monster boy, Oswald! As a siren, Oswald spent most of his life in the sea, and still has a lot to learn about humanity. He’s a pretty cool guy but gets a bit embarrassed about his species’s troublesome past as the cause of many shipwrecks at sea, and would prefer to not discuss it. His passion is rock music, and his main instrument is the guitar. He also loves to sing, but refrains from doing so due to the hypnotic effect it has on other species. His lack of legs, tentacles, or a snake-like tail means that like other merrows and sirens he requires a wheelchair to move around on land, and often feels frustrated that he can’t show off how adept he is at traversing water. He’s also easy to embarrass and obsessed with not allowing anything to ‘ruin’ his manly image, including allowing Millie (a girl!) to help carry him around.
So there you have it, all my monster boys! I left out a few things, as those would be major spoilers, but those are my ideas for the characters for now! I’ll try to draw and post some sketches of their designs later. Hopefully I haven’t forgotten anything, but this won’t be the last time I talk about monster boys. Any questions or comments would be very much appreciated! Nsfw questions are allowed (all the boys wear pants for a reason, after all), though I’m currently not sure if this series will be 16+ or 18+, if you catch my meaning. Lemme know how interested you are in this story, or if you’re not interested please let me know that too!

I got a very long ask and wrote even longer reply, and now Tumblr for some reason doesn't want to publish it through asks. So I'm making a separate post, because what else can I do? 😀 I hope Anon wouldn't mind
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi!
Thank you for such a long ask! I really enjoy replying those, although it may take some time to actually write whatever I have on my mind 🙂 However, I feel like for every question that you posed, it's possible to write its own big reply or even an essay, so this piece of mine probably won’t give them justice (but I’ll try my best.)
As usual, one big IMO.
1) Ethics, “gueer coding” and discussions
I believe I’ve already partly touched this subject here. Shortly, I think that everything the boys did (and still do) had its own purpose. They decided to put these "undertones" (or whatever one may call them) in their art. They made some statements with a very small room for interpretation. And it didn't happen once or twice. More like, it's been a consistent behaviour throughout years.
I don't buy this excuse some fans write - "oh, he just didn't know about this/didn't understand how it looked like/didn't..." So apparently, JK wasn't able to figure out shit about Troye, didn't give a damn about his GCF, didn't think how his tattoo looked like; JM didn't realize to what conclusions could lead his quite bold words about 4am or waking up and seeing JK; both of them didn't have second thoughts about the Black Swan dance; Bang PD is just a CEO who pays zero attention to BTS in general and KM actions in particular (which sometimes actually backlash, e.g. that stop gay fanservice thing after the Seoul concerts), because he clearly just doesn't care AT ALL; whatever PR service they have in BH is just asleep all the time... Etc etc etc, you got the idea
Well, if one wants to perceive JM, JK and BigHit as a group of complete morons with no brains, this "oh, they just didn't know" explanation may work. But if all of them were idiots, how would BTS become the biggest group on a planet? They are smart enough, deal with this.
And YET. KM still do what they do. It's their choice, so apparently they have their motives. You wrote it yourself too - "Jikook and BH put out all that stuff for a reason."
Keeping this in mind, I truly think it's fair to discuss queer undertones or KM's bond. It's meant to be discussed and speculated. They made it public, and they continue to make it public (and quite obvious, to be honest). Why? Well, I guess they want us to speculate.
From here comes the second point
2) Art and its interpretations
In general, I believe that any good art should allow various interpretations. That's what a good piece of art is supposed to do - provoke a thought. As well as it's quite customary to analyze and (sometimes) overanalyze art. Thousands of universities worldwide have programs which are focused on fine art, literature, theater, music, film, etc.
And why is it okay to write about Avengers or Madonna or whatever weird art you're able to find in the closest Contemporary museum (like a banana taped to a wall), but not okay to interpret BTS' songs and/or performances? Again, I strongly believe that art is meant to be discussed. Especially as cool as theirs 🙂
Actually, some popular fandom theories turned out to be true here. Since Spring Day release on Feb 2017, fans speculated about its connection to the Sewol ferry tragedy based on the song's lyrics, MV and choreo. We got this confirmation like when, December 2020? But before it was also just an interpretation.
Coming back to KM. Combining these with the idea that JM/JK/BH clearly know what they're doing and how it may look like, I don't see a problem in having various interpretation of their art. Including queer ones.
3) Escapism
Isn't all art targeted to escaping in a sense? We want to take a break from reality and/or mundane life or just gain some new experience. In this sense what's the radical difference between staring at pictures or sculptures in a museum, watching a movie, reading a book or scrolling through Tumblr reading BTS/KM centric posts? All of these are means to escape and entertain ourselves.
As for this "if they are a queer couple, is it okay to derive pleasure and 'what a beautiful love story' feelings from two members of systematically oppressed minority?" - and you would prefer doing what - ignoring them? pretending that they don't exist? 🙃 In case if they are a queer couple, I guess showing support and benevolence is even more important. Exactly because, as you mentioned, they are a part of the oppressed minority. And the hatred is/would be definitely in place.
4) Fanfiction
Oh my, what a controversial theme these days.
Firstly, some forget it was not invented in the 21st century. Even slash fanfiction (cough Star cough Trek). As for incorporating real people, it's been a part of literature for like what.. always? There are millions of different writings about emperors, nobles, military figures, lives of saints, etc. And it's not like personal opinion of people in question bothered those, who write or wrote about them. I clearly remember a scene in Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace, where Alexander I [Russian emperor 1801-25] after losing a battle against Napoleon, hits a birch tree with his sword while crying hard and just being kinda hysterical. Would real Alexander be satisfied with such image if he read the book? Idk 😄
About having "the right to comment on such [different from your own] experience". I suppose, if authors wrote only about what they had experienced, our literature would be 95% poorer than it is. How can one write books in historic settings if they didn't live there? How do books about future and space travel exist, if we live in 2021? Is it needed to be a part of mafia to write about mafia? What about other cultures? Should an American author write only about American people and American lifestyle or it's fine to have characters from other countries?
Writing is not about experiencing something and then making a fanfic or a book, it's more about research and compassion. If you have reliable info on your theme and are able to look at the world using different lenses, why not?
I don't perceive fanfiction as a worldwide evil. Sure, there are creepy examples as well as authors, who write fetishizing weird shit. But it doesn't mean that all fanfiction=bad and all slash fanfiction=objectification of male homosexuality. Fanfiction is just one form of fiction, it can be good or bad based on how it's written. But the label itself doesn't define anything, as well as reading it should not be a reason to accusations.
5) Jikook, shipping and politics
I'm among those, who perceive pretty much everything as a part of politics. We all exist within some political conventions and have certain political laws over our heads. And yes, it includes art. Even if an artist says something like "oh, I decided to stay away from politics, my work is beyond it". The decision to stay away from politics is also political, because apparently there was something within the political structure what made this artist say that and forced them to make this distinction between them and some institutional conventions.
And that makes me believe that shipping/supporting KM is also political. But I don't think it's necessarily bad? Basically, you decided to support potentially queer people from a country, which doesn't really approve LGBTQ+. It puts you in the opposition towards a particular government. You made a choice. You could google some SK stuff, read all that you mentioned in the beginning of your ask, and say something like "oh, that's not okay there? well, fair enough, I guess their government knows better"🤠 and forget that this KM thing even exists. But apparently you didn't
Imo, is it politics? Yes
Is it bad that it's politics? Well, no? 🙃
|
P.S. I hope I was clear enough with my ideas. Thank you again for the thought provoking ask, and I hope I'll hear from you again 🙂
And honestly, I don't think that you're problematic in any way :)

💘Self Help Tips for Yanderes💘
Yandere blogs are used to vent and cope with yandere related feelings such as jealousy, obsessiveness, possessiveness and any kind of insecurity and pain in our relationships (whether that be romantic or platonic). If you’re unsure of what specifically to do with your blog or you just need something extra to help, please read through this post.
1. Drink plenty of water. This won’t help the bigger problem but it is important to remember. Dehydration can cause headaches, dizziness, forgetfulness and a lack of energy. All of these symptoms can add up and lead to you getting easily overwhelmed and stressed. If you’re going to face your problems and work through things, you first need to have some energy and focus. You can't work through anything if you’re getting irritated by everything because you’re too tired and you keep forgetting important things throughout the day. It can be tricky for a lot of people with mental health issues to remember to drink water. The easiest way to get this into your routine is to carry around a full water bottle and keep taking sips of it very now and then. This way, you have the water on hand, ready to drink at all times instead of you trying really hard to remember to take a break to go get the water in the first place.
Tumblr media
2. Learn to deal with your feelings IRL. The reason we’re here is to deal with our feelings that we know are unhealthy. While a blog can help, we won’t always have it on hand to use and it’s unhealthy to focus too much time on social media. You can't build a better life and better relationships if you blog all the time. Finding ways to deal with your feelings in everyday life whilst not online will stop you solely relying on your blog. Here are some articles about dealing with jealousy: x x and here’s some for obsessing: x x .
Tumblr media
3. Figure out your feelings. The most obvious way to figure out what you’re feeling and why you’re feeling that is to attend talking therapy. If you’re able to do this, please do. If you’re unable, some other ways are listening to music, especially music with yandere themes. Sometimes, you’ll listen to a song and the lyrics make a lot of sense to you and you really relate to them, which allows you to hear your feelings put into words. This can also be the case with fictional characters. Yandere as a trope is commonly seen in anime and sometimes video games, occasionally in mainstream TV shows and movies. If you’re able to find a yandere character you relate to, that can help you understand yourself better because the character is usually able to word their feelings and express them openly. If you relate to their quotes and find yourself wishing you could do what they do then that helps to create a visual image and words to describe how you feel. Music and characters can express what you’re going through to your loved ones when you can't. If a friend notices you’re not doing well but you can't put into words what’s wrong or you’re not sure how to word it softly enough, explain that you feel like the character you relate to or send them a song with lyrics that explain things. For yandere songs, you can check this playlist. For yandere characters, some anime with them are: Future Diary, Date A Live, When They Cry, Shiki, Inu x Boku SS, No.6, Happy Sugar Life, Baka and Test, Shuffle!, And You Thought There Is Never a Girl Online?, A Boring World Where The Concept Of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist, Canaan. Some video games: Ib, Yanderella, Doki Doki Literature Club, Shihori Escape, Mix Ore, Super Danganronpa 2, Corpse Party, Mikoto Nikki. Some TV Shows: You (Netflix), Killing Eve (BBC iPlayer), The End of the F**king World Season 2 (Netflix and More4). If you’re worried about possible triggers or upsetting content, please look up the IMDB page for the anime and TV shows and go to the parents guide. It will have all the details of the more mature content it contains like what kind of violence it may have, if there’s any drugs or alcohol, if there’s bad language etc. For video games, some will have warnings when you download them to check first. If not, try looking at the wiki page for the game, the pages usually warn you if there’s spoilers ahead.
Tumblr media
4. Find creative ways to vent. This is where your blog can come in. Expressing your emotions through creative means allows you a safe and healthy way to express yourself. You can do this by writing stories (this can be fan fiction), writing poetry or lyrics, making artwork (drawings, paintings, sculptures, scrapbooking) and making moodboards. A lot of yandere blogs post their creations as part of their coping and to share with the rest of the community. Writing stories can allow you to type out all the scenarios that you have daydreamed about, anything you wish you could do with your crush or any kind of negative things you’ve felt towards people. You can write about a yandere character breaking up a couple because the character is in love with one of them, you can write about a yandere kidnapping their crush, you can write about a yandere saying everything to their partner that you can't say to yours. Poetry and lyrics writing can also involve you writing things that you wish you could say or do out and can allow you to put your feelings into words if you’re struggling to. There are many Tumblr blogs that post drawing of yandere characters (from shows, games and their own OCs). I recommend these blogs: @reina-mari, @aosora444, @nobutatan, @ruhianna, @ibblescribbles. Making a scrapbook and filling it with pictures of all the things you love can be a nice reminder of all the good things to keep you going. Including the people you love is good (provided you use pictures that they consented to) but also be sure to include things you love about yourself, hobbies you have, happy memories, your goals etc. Making sure you feel complete on your own is important for good mental health and can minimise your insecurities in relationships. Moodboards can be a good way to express feelings and scenarios that you have daydreamed about and shows it in a visual way. You can either put 9 square images together, going 3 by 3 on a Tumblr post or make a collage of images to post, using an editor app. For mobile, I recommend picsart for photo editing. You can make collages with BeFunky and use it to edit photos on your computer. There’s also pizap.com and photomosh.com. You can find aesthetic images on Pinterest and weheartit but try to avoid artwork because it’s likely to be stolen. If you find artwork you want to use, search up the artist first. You can do this by checking the image for a watermark of the artist name and then searching it up to find their social media accounts. If there isn't one, take the picture to google image search and if that fails, try the same thing on tineye.com. Once you've found the accounts, message the artists for permission and if they let you use it, add credit on the post by linking the original post with the artwork or write “art credit to (insert artist name on account)”.
💘If you have any other tips you’d like to add or recommendations for blogs, shows, games etc. then please feel free to add on.💘
