I'm not sure if this is something I think happened in a fic, or it really exists, but on the off-chance someone know what I'm talking about - the Sunshot Campaign ends differently with Wen Qing/Wen Ning in charge of the Qishan Wen, and as part of reparations(? Maybe?) the family vaults are revealed. Wen Qing warns people not to touch anything but JGS is too greedy and grabs something and dissolves in dust? A) the premise of this story was time travel where modern WWX travels back in time when other WWX is living with the wens in the burial mounds when LWJ comes to the borders with his modern counterpart and when modern wangxian meet they have a sweet reunion in which they share a kiss after that they are joined by the hip much to the mortification of OG wangxian. WY's parents are dead (car accident) but madam Lan's alive and he calls her mother or mom and modern them is engaged they also have their phones by which they click a photo and after coming to modern world WY sees that as proof that it actually happened. read it on ao3 muti chaptered (completed) with either 4 or 6 chapters 6 being maximum

B) in this one the main Lan fam is captured body swap between WRH and LWJ occurs and after LWJ realizes what has happen he commands that his body's head be severed which is currently housing WRH's soul and LXC and LQR are present to see that happening and grieve over LWJ not knowing WRH was the one who died and LWJ doesn't inform them about the body swap but tells the guards to take LXC and LQR to their rooms he keeps his own body's severed head in his room also. LWJ asks guards to bring him WWX which they do but injured and WWX sees LWJ's severed head and gets angry he also practices to be more like WRH so nobody suspects this is the most clear i remember there were also i think one appearance of WQ and some from WX and WC was on ao3 ongoing atleast when i was reading think over 5 chapter but under 10 the last i had checked (i was so curios to know what happens next but i lost the fic)

A ) an Addams family style modern au. I cannot remember the title, but Lan Wangji enjoyed the taste of Hemlock tea, Wei Wuxian always dressed in gothic clothes, A-Yuan keeps getting possessed, Wen Ning would die temporarily every now and then then, and the reason Lan Wangji went to Yiling in the first place was to find his mother (madam lan is alive in this one).

B ) Young Prince Lan Wangji fled the palace to avoid an arranged marriage, and met an older Wei Wuxian and traveled with him, keeping his identity a secret. Lan Zichen catches up with them after Wangxian have spent the night together (bottom LWJ), and Lan Zhan is taken back to the palace. Wei Wuxian returns to claim his hand, revealing himself as Baoshan Sanren’s heir. Fix ends with them watching their kids play in Lan Zhan’s mother’s garden.

Summary: It won't be until several days later that Wangji will know to be grateful for Jiang Wanyin’s insistence to split up in their search. (Or, JC and LWJ spend those months searching separately and LWJ ends up finding Wei Ying a little earlier. Wei Ying who doesn’t remember anything beyond his own name. So, LWJ takes his chance and takes Wei Ying home. To Gusu.) Kay's comments: AO3 user apathyinreverie has done it again and left me absolutely devaststed. When I originally bookmarked this, it wasn't a series yet and more of a WIP (?) but now, a second work has been posted and it's probably going to be finished soon. I love this start to a canon divergence, where Lan Wangji is the one who finds Wei Wuxian after his time in the Burial Mounds, without Jiang Cheng being there and with Wei Wuxian suffering from memory loss. As devastating as it is, Lan Wangji gets to see the full extent of the hurt Wei Wuxian suffered in the Burial Mounds and also gets to be beside him before he managed to build his walls up again. Really loved this, so heart-breaking, so soft. Excerpt: Wei Ying. Wei Ying is here. Alive. Wei Ying who looks terrified of him. Wei Ying who drips resentment as though oversaturated. Wei Ying who looks barely present but still, somehow, desperately unbroken. “Wei Ying,” Wangji breathes, aching at the terror swimming in his zhiji’s eyes. There is the slightest falter in Wei Ying’s posture at the sound of his name, a sudden uncertainty in his eyes, dragging to focus quickly on Wangji’s hand that had so briefly lingered against his shoulder, as though uncertain whether what he felt might have been real. “Wei Ying,” Wangji repeats, desperate and joyous and devastated at the state he is in. He watches Wei Ying’s grip on the blackened flute loosening, the dark swirls of energy around his feet calming slightly. Honestly I will always think that the whole sequence of events (temporarily saving Wei Wuxian in a cave after Nightless City massacre - fight with Lan elders who wants wwx dead - returning a delirious wwx back in burial mounds with the unarmed Wens remnants there - returning back alone to Gusu to accept punishment - and then the shock for wwx's death) from LWJ's pov doesn't make sense. It only makes sense for plot convenience (lwj has to be alive in wwx's second life) but rationally? I only see gaps.

I already discussed this topic. And read many brilliant meta, but such meta required a lot of mental gymnastics because they were interpretations "over the lines". If I only look at the canon text I have still this mindset, I can't help to see nonsense in such sequence of events and yeah maybe being described poorly from an outsider doesn't help. Sorry I love this novel but this sequence of events was... meh.

I do find it interesting that JC antis have the nerve to call us "fake JC fans" and accuse us of mischaractersing him when it is them who fail to understand him as a character.

A true fan, as they claim to be, would look at things from JC's pov and come to understand why he made those decisions and understand his feelings on things that he had little information to go from in the first place.

To say we disregard his "bad" qualities is completely untrue, too. Every JC fan I know acknowledges that he is flawed, just like WWX and LWJ are really. But they are all qualities that we love about him because being morally grey is what makes him human and interesting.

His moral greyness has never been disregarded by us. It has merely been explained and understood because it is important to look at things from all perspectives, rather than just the MC's in order to understand and properly appreciate the story.

Jiang Cheng is flawed. But as a human we can relate to his emotions, his reactions to things and how he became the person he is because a true fan would put themselves in his shoes in order to understand that.

To claim JC is bad through and through with no redeeming qualities in him is factually incorrect because it excludes all his good qualities that have been both explicitly and inexplicitly put there by the author for you to pick up on.

In ignoring them, you are doing MXTX's work a disservice.

If you want to talk about irredeemable characters, there are plenty others in the novel whose actions can never be justified.

Jin Guangshan, for example, was a character I immediately simped for thanks to his gorgeous Donghua design ✨️. But I understood completely that he was a vile, irredeemable person with not an ounce of goodness in him.

I also loved Wen Chao and Wen Ruohan and found their arc to be thoroughly amusing throughout. But again, I understood that there was no justifying their actions, as I'm sure many other JC fans would agree.

As much as I love these characters and consider myself a fan of them, I appreciate that there is no good bone in their body. They had no reason other than pure, evil intent to do what they did. There were no other nuances to it compared to the likes of JC and JGY, whose actions can be both sympathised and understood.

These characters were the TRUE villains, and it is perhaps them you should be focusing on in your metas if you want to discuss purely evil and irredeemable characters in your work.

To claim that all JC fans have no reading comprehension or any understanding of morals is a silly thing to accuse us of when you know full well that we don't give the likes of WRH and JGS the same treatment as we do JC.

Anyone who says JC is evil and irredeemable yet still claims to love and "stan" him is not a true fan in my eyes and completely misunderstood the character altogether. Sorry.

Okay, I've got a handful of miscellaneous recs, and then ten recs for Victoria Goddard's Nine Worlds series, which I'm putting under a cut because at least two of you I know are still reading and the recs are full of spoilers for At the Feet of the Sun. Enjoy!

The Long Way Home by itsnatalie (DCU, gen)

With Jason tentatively back in the Batfamily, things are going pretty well for him--except for the whole thing with Tim. But who gives a shit about Tim Drake? But when Jason and Tim are pulled into a frightening race for their lives inside a labyrinth that's out to kill them, they may have to look past their differences just to stay alive. Maybe along the way, they'll discover they aren't as different as they thought, and family comes in many different forms.

Spectacular in every aspect: the horror, the action, the hurt/comfort, the brotherly devotion underlying their swarm of issues, and the ending. I really can't rec this one highly enough.

Late Night, North Station by raitala (Untamed, Wangxian)

Lan Zhan finds A-Yuan lost in the railway station. He maybe finds more than he bargained for. Some mornings you leave for the office and come back with a son (and possibly a husband too).

Sooooo sweet, with a lovely autistic LWJ POV. The sequel is still a WIP but is great so far.

Beginning at the End by WerewolvesAreReal (Temeraire, Granby/Little)

In many ways it seems that John's life revolves around William Laurence.

Lovely character study trilogy with Granby sorting out his unrequited thing for Laurence and his ongoing thing with Little.

The City of Cities is still expanding from the backwater village it was before the Fall; the work of reconstruction continues but it is no longer a simple crisis. In the Palace the big political beasts are circling for position under the newly awakened Emperor. Despondent and determined to bury himself in work, Cliopher finds his former patron disapproving and the new Master of Offices openly hostile. But he is still a fifth degree secretary, and some problems are easier to solve when you feel that you have little left to lose… and don't care which enemies you make along the way.

Amazing!!! Basically a novel-length series digging into the difficult period between Kip returning and Kip becoming the Hands of the Emperor, with tons of bureaucracy and corruption and competence porn and of course, his devotion to His Radiancy and building a better government. Also features wonderful OCs, worldbuilding, a really horrifying bit of magic, some unexpected allies, humor, and Kip being just a really lovely (and determined, and traumatized) person.

Pikabe has fucked over his army career (and maybe his whole life) by refusing illegal orders to commit a war crime and kinda sorta leading a mutiny (he was cleared of wrongdoing, but still, mutiny). He’s been shuffled out of the way to some random base where everyone gives him the side-eye (because mutiny) and he’s never going to see anyone from his old unit ever again. (Which doesn’t matter, his former lieutenant’s also-fucked-over life is none of his business, whatever, it’s fine it’s fine.) Okay, I've been seeing some ice skating AU's around lately and it inspired me to write something. Fair warning: it's not madam Yu friendly and mostly exposition and little dialogue. LWJ POV.

"Why don't you skate anymore?" Lan Wangji finally asked, three months after Wei Ying had finally returned to his life. Honestly, the words have been begging to be released as soon as Lan Wangji set eyes on Wei Ying again.

The other had disappeared four years ago, just before the final of the Junior Olympics for ice skating. It was a shock to everyone involved, the brilliant and charming skater that was a shoe in for getting gold, his performances always bringing emotional reactions out of his audience.

Lan Wangji can still remember when he performed a song called "In the mountains" a song about longing and remembrance of a love in the POV of a grieving man. It was supposedly composed by an ancestor of Lan Wangji's actually, which is how Wei Ying heard it the first time.

The movements and expressions Wei Ying was able to bring out on the ice would forever be stuck in Lan Wangji's mind. It's one of Wei Ying's best performances, according to both Lan Wangji and the internet.

But two days before the final of the juniors, Wei Ying pulled out. Nobody knew until the next day, when everyone got a message informing them of the change.

Lan Wangji remembers rushing to Wei Ying's hotel room, confusion and worry warring in his heart. It didn't matter how long he knocked on that door, Wei Ying never answered. He only learned later, after running down to the lobby to the reception, that Wei Ying had already left early the night before.

For four years, Lan Wangji had been searching for him, trying to figure out just why Wei Ying left. But all he had to go on was an angry Jiang Cheng and an unfamiliar stone faced Jiang Yanli. Neither would spill the answer.

Even his number had changed, and no matter how often Lan Wangji emailed him, he never replied.

Wei Ying completely disappeared from the world, taking Lan Wangji's heart right with him. So seeing him again, on that sunny Wednesday afternoon, looking healthy and happy, was both a relief and a hit to his heart.

Mostly though, Lan Wangji was just happy to have him back in his life. Yet the thought always remained, just what happened?

Wei Ying hummed, looking over the horizon, watching birds sail in and out of view.

They were currently at the top viewpoint of a mountain after hiking for nearly three hours. It was pretty empty, only a few people around, quiet and peaceful.

It was something they used to do together, in the off season. Neither of their families loved the idea of them risking a twisted ankle just to watch the sunrise. But they both enjoyed it too much to actually stop, even when Wei Ying left, Lan Wangji would find himself going on hikes.

Watching Wei Ying right now, Lan Wangji realized he didn't need to know, if Wei Ying wanted him to, he would tell him.

But just as he was about to apologize and retract his question, Wei Ying answered.

He spoke of his time with the Jiāngs, he told of how fierce and strict Madam Yu was during training, he let Lan Wangji in on the fact that Madam Yu rarely let him rest, made him train for hours and hours, pushing his body to the limit every time.

Until one night, Wei Ying's body finally had enough. Apparently, Wei Ying had been attempting a quad when his ankles gave out on the landing and he tripped, slamming his head into the ice.

He ended up going to the hospital, getting ten stitches and told in no uncertain terms, that he couldn't skate for at least a month. And even that was pushing it, according to his doctor.

Madam Yu was pissed. But Wei Ying later found out, she had been training Jiang Cheng to take over Wei Ying's choreography without telling either of them. As soon as she was able, she threw out his contract and told him he had to leave since he couldn't perform as his contract states he had to do in order to keep his place there, so he left.

It was a loophole Wei Ying had been unaware of, and one she utilized to its fullest. Jiang Yanli had not been pleased, according to Wei Ying, she had made a big fuss, arguing day and night with her mother, even Jiang Cheng tried to talk her out of it.

Lan Wangji couldn't believe the woman.

Taking advantage of a serious injury to throw out a teenager she didn't like. And the fact that the rest of the Jiāngs couldn't do anything about it because she was the major shareholder in the company –

It was despicable.

"She took my phone and canceled my room at the hotel. I didn't even need to pack since she hired people to do it, then took it out of my paycheck. She told me I wasn't allowed back at Lotus Pier or to see her children. She threatened to draw up a restraining order if I didn't listen. So I took what I could and left. I stayed with the Wen's for a few months, before getting a job as a tutor for music, then science too. Actually, I started volunteering as a substitute at a local elementary school."

Lan Wangji could just imagine how those lessons went. Wei Ying always had a way with kids that made Lan Wangji's heart race. He remembers catching Wei Ying helping out the younger skaters who would do homework in the waiting rooms, and the laughter and cries of gratitude that sounded afterwards.

Wei Ying shrugged "Honestly, I think I'm grateful it happened, not the way it did, and I definitely regret how I left everyone, you, with no explanation, but it gave me a chance to get myself together. To find out what I really want in life."

"And what's that?" Lan Wangji asked.

Wei Ying turned to look at him, the setting sun causing his face to glow, eyes bright and smile wide, he said, "This."

And then he kissed him.

POV switches in chapter 108

This is generally me trying to figure out which parts of the novel are from wei wuxian's limited perspective and which ones are omniscient, as they switch pretty frequently and without warning. And also specifcally because @darkfalcon-z asked in a reply to a post I made earlier today!

Obvious disclaimer that this meta looks pretty closely into specific wording, and that my source remains a translation. I haven't read the original text and so can't attest to my accuracy there.

So MDZS gets real messy with its narration. It obviously starts in omniscient with celebrating Wei Wuxian's death, but spends a lot of its time in limited, most exemplary shown by the enduring obliviousness wei wuxians has towards lan wangji's feelings never being explicitly undercut by the narration.

The novel... does NOT telepgraph when it switches povs. Moreover, wei wuxian does sometimes make confident statement about how other characters feel. Prime example being him talking about how jiang cheng would react to finding out about his core

This being, notably... NOT what Jiang Cheng's actual reaction is when he does find out. That's because wwx is working with incomplete information here, he didn't know Jiang Cheng was willing to lose his core for him to begin with.

Also, he afformentioned obliviousness to Lan Wangji leading to him, multiple times, attributing the wrong motivations to lan wangji's actions.

The novel doesn't outright say "wei wuxian assumed/ thought that jiang cheng would react like that" in the screenshot above, but it DOES clearly show, by leading with him thinking about why he thought he coudn't tell jiang cheng about the golden core transfer, that we're in his head at the moment. And so the following statements are also his thoughts, not omniscient narrations. The difference is very subtle. But it's there

So we're in chapter 108. right before Lan Xichen stabs Jin Guangyao, an we're clearly in omniscient.

Lan Xichen's feelings are stated plainly and there's not very much focus on Wei wuxian at all. It switches over briefly to him and lwj checking up on Wen Ning but his feelings are not overriding everything else.

Then the stab happens

We're still in omniscient here. "Lan xichen felt his heart go cold" a detail Wei Wuxian couldn't know, stated plainly as a matter of fact.

However.

I think this part

Is where we retreat from omniscient back into wei wuxian's pov. We're not told anything about either of these character's inner worlds, but do get some extra litte commentary that jgy was so slow that even Jin Ling could catch him with his eyes closed! That's not something either Lan Xichen or jgy would be thinking of right now. It is, however, a comment Wei Wuxian's inner monologue might think to make.

In the context of my earlier post, which this was inspired by. It also makes some assumptions. Namely, that Xichen is just going after jgy to catch him. It doesn't explicitly say so, because we're not in omniscient anymore but it's clear Wei Wuxian thinks so as he'll feel the need to warn him in a few seconds. This is interesting, as it directly contradicts a popular fan interpretation of this scene, that's become explicitly canonized in multipe adaptations, which is that Lan Xichen is intentionally going along with and is willing to die with him. I'm not saying this theory is correct based on its popularity alone, obviously. I was actually surprised to find out it was so vague when I read the novel considering its popularity!

By the next chapter we'll be unambiguously back into wei uxian's head, and after "Lan Xichen could no longer persuade himself to silence him again" which is in the paragraph before the one in the image above, we are no longer told any other character's feelings or inner thoughts except for Wei Wuxian's. Specifically, this:

So this describes wei wuxian realizing a "something" what something? well, this something.

Again, the difference is subtle. The statement of "He was fighting with his last breath to lead Lan Xichen towards Nie Mingjue, so they could die together!" might seem like another one of those "other charcters' feelings" statements. But we're not IN Jin Guangyao's head right now. This is describing actions, not thoughts. He's not trying to get away (a visible action wwx would be privy to) which must be because...see statement above.

And all of this is framed under the banner of Wei Wuxian saying he realized something, and that being that Jin Guangyao isn't trying to get away and Lan Xichen needs to get away from him because... see statement above. This line basically starts as a repitition of what Wei Wuxian said, repeating his assumption, and then clarifying what Wei Wuxian DOES think is happening. The whole paragraph between is just buildup for the payoff of what that "something" of the realization is. MXTX could have writtern "wei wuxian, however, realized something. Jin Guangyao wasn't trying to get away! Instead he was trying to lead Lan Xichen towards Nie Mingjue so they could die together" and them describe the scenario, it'd be functionally the same in the manner of what information was conveyed, but the little gap in setup and payoff increases suspense and makes the reveal more engaging. It's a good little writing trick!

That wording above does make it way more obvious that that statement? Is one of wei wuxian's. That's what HE thinks.

In the line where jgy pushes lan xichen away, we're still not privy to their feelings or thoughts at all.

But we do get this curious litle "yet,"

That means this is a subversion, something that goes against what was previously established. Namely, that jin guangyao would want lan xichen to get caught by nie mingjue. The actual reality of the situaton conrasts hat we were told earlier. it's a surprise. to who? Well, to all the other characters watching this go down. wwx among them. We get other little commentaries, like how the sight of jgy being choked by nmj is frightening, placing us even further away from his inner world and into the shoes of someone watching him in the temple.

The style being used here is similar to the one in the next chapter, when nie huasang's plan is unveiled. First you get bit of dialogue with clear implications from Wei Wuxian, and then we go into wei wxuxian's head. In a few lines it's explicitly established that he's questioning things, and we are following his line of thought. And then a whle account of nie huasang's plan is given. With no further affirmation that we're still in wei wuxian's head. That's based on context clues given prior. Is this recount of the plan correct? Most likely, yeah! But we're never expicitly told. We are still in wei wuxian's head.

This bit on Jin Guangyao is similar. From the removal of stating other character's feelings (a possible exception might be the statement that "Nie Mingjue is not afraid of spiritual weapons" but that is something observable to wwx who's been seeing nmj not give a shit for a good few minutes now. We get nothing he's not privy to) and a clear indication that we're inside his head now. What we get next is his reocunt of the events, and they're fairly factul as he simply tells us what he sees, but when he gets into the reasons for why things ar ehappening? Well, if we wanted to, we could doubt that.

Oooh your latest wei wuxian and boundaries meta is so delicious, like wwx loves his loved ones/people he cares about fully, and jiang cheng was once someone who wwx cared about, and yet jc hurt him so badly, killed the people he was protecting, killed him, and even then wwx only sets his boundary of not wanting to talk/interact with jc, (like when ppl talked of siege that jc lead wwx 'felt poison needle pricking him' which of course 'gets replaced by sweetness' when lwj comes to him, paraphrasing what i remember)

Like if wwx cares about someone its going to take hella lot for him to distance himself, and jc crossed all of it and wwx was definitely hurt by it, so glad he could move on to find happiness in his new home with lwj and the rest.

Yes! One thing about Wei Wuxian is that he thinks? in multiple layers. Since the novel isn't from his POV, we often get "incomplete" thoughts or only substance level thoughts. For example, we get the narrative saying that Mianmian had a pretty figure and that Wei Wuxian was looking at her, but he only goes over when she mentions medicine, but we don't get that "thought." Thus, one needs to dissect his motivations behind his actions with much detail and objectivity. Yet one thing that is common is that in his first life there's no ultimate "thought" about Jiang Cheng other than Wei Wuxian mentally stating he knew they were going to have a fight over their ideological differences and in his second life, he has plenty of thoughts that show his expectations, disappointment, hurt and distance from Jiang Cheng.

For a character like Wei Wuxian, it's very hard for him to set himself apart, or distance himself. He is very much a sociable person who likes to cheer people up, make everyone happy. Yet, even Jiang Cheng's tears don't move him to appease Jiang Cheng of his guilt. Instead he only says sorry for breaking the promise of "always being his subordinate."

And I think it's hard to understand how one feels about the other; like Wei Wuxian had immense love for Lan wangji even in his first life yet it was buried under layers and layers of debts and responsibilities and angst and comphet. Similarly, relationships become so complex, it's hard to know if you care about someone or are just reminiscing who they once were, or what they stood for, or who they were the children of. It's just complicated for Wei Wuxian because he forgets people he loathes. If they do unforgivable shit to him, he kills them.

But Jiang Cheng is different. He can't kill him, and he isn't someone who holds grudges so he can only distance himself and I think for his character that's like so OOC (like not in the way it's actually OOC but it's something so new ? to him; like JC literally burnt wifi out. it's like Wei wuxian is a christmas store of second chances and Jiang Cheng still bought everything he had to offer and demanded more)

I think one of my pet peeves is when people trying to justify certain characters actions because “they were young!” “They didn’t know better!!” “They were in grief!” “They are misunderstood!” “They grow up in a harsh environment!”

While condemning Wei wuxian actions, like he wasn’t traumatized teenager and young adult himself when everything happened to him. When his first life was one tragedy after another; they try to condemn him because of things that aren’t supported by canon and in modern society standards; “he uses demonic cultivation!” “He a mass murder!” “He tortured Wen Chao harshly!” “He a war criminal!” “He didn’t know his place!” “He shouldn’t saved the wens!” “It his fault that LP fall!” “He the narrator of the story of course his POV is biased!”

And those are the takes I seen TODAY, and my lack of sleep isn’t helping me being less annoyed by them. Because those takes? Don’t make any sense if you look at the canon novel; especially the last one, every time I see the take that WWX is the narrator therefore he unreliable is making me want to scream.

WWX is the protagonist of the narrative but he isn’t the narrator, did we forget the existence of “omniscient 3rd person POV” or that we need everything to be narrated from the main character point of view?

I don’t get it, I really don’t get it.

I’ve said it once and twice and I’ll say it again: nobody’s life in that story is more valuable than Wei Wuxian’s, the Wen siblings, or any of the individual Wen remnants. Not a single person is more deserving of life over that group of people. Mianmian was a servant in a cultivation clan who had her life endangered while her peers save for three were too afraid to act, but she still stood up to the cultivation world in defense of Wei Wuxian. Wen Ning and Wen Qing were the children of Wen Ruohan’s favorite cousin, but both still committed treason against their could-not-be-more-evil-if-they-gave-him-a-villain-twirling-mustache uncle. Hell, I’m one of the people who believes that Jiang Yanli compromised her relationship with Wei Wuxian for the Jin, but she still spoke up for Wei Wuxian in multiple instances against people who looked down on them both. All of them did this because it was the right thing to do, just like Wei Wuxian protecting the Wen remnants was the right thing to do. And every person in this list did what they did under direct threat and lack of power compared to those who could easily retaliate.

So no, I do not actually give a fuck about people’s justifications for why their favs being genocidal assholes is acceptable and justifiable while ignoring the very real, overtly powerless characters who do so much more than any of the clan leaders or heirs (minus lwj) ever dared to do despite having been raised under and surviving the same circumstances. Plus, you’d think stans would actually want Wei Wuxian to be the narrator of the story, because he is so much nicer by miles about the fact that all of his peers and elders (outside of a number he can count on one hand without using all 5 fingers) gathered together to kill him. Stans should be damn grateful that wwx isn’t actually his rumored self.

He looked so different from Lan Zhan’s memories; apple cheeked, clean, and relaxed. Lan Zhan clamped both hands over his own mouth to stop the pained noise that threatened to escape him. Hot tears spilled down his face as he watched the young, safe, and whole boy sleep. His stomach cramped with the effort of holding the sound in, but he’d sooner die than wake Wei Ying up.

Mojo's comments: I was interrupted so many times while reading this that it took 3 days and I cannot do it justice. I did tags, though! Anyway, it's a delightful time travel fix it, wherein lwj dies and opens his eyes to his student days. Slowly, he determines that a handful of other people came back, too, all of whom died before him. He and wwx team up, try to tweak events, get together (lwj died during the 13 years, so there was no established relationship). Meanwhile, there's a mastermind somewhere, pulling strings, putting everyone in their places (meng yao shows up as a student and gets a new arc, focused on lxc of course). Great thoughts on musical cultivation, yin iron and resentful energy. (Also, Madam Yu and Meng Yao get to do a bitch-off, which is very satisfying.)

I don't understand why so many of mdzs fans hate jiang cheng .They are looking at wwx & lwj pov side and why can't they look at jc story from his side as well.

Madam yu was a bad mother but a great leader. She was blinded by hatred. And fengmian can't be called a good person too. He mistreated his own son because he looked like his mother . Jc was a child , all jc wanted loving parents . But madam yu doesn't know how to show love or affection & fengmian knew how to do it, but he didn't even care about it. The only good thing fengmian did was adopt wy & the only good thing madam yu did was care about jc somehow .I will never forget this, which is that fengmian picked jc less than 5 times (according to him) but each time was enough to keep him happy for months .He didn't like jc because he was like madam yu and he never saw how hard jc worked to please him and get his attention. Madam yu used this as a weapon . They were passing jc between the two of them like he was just a toy, and they didn't know how much damage it had done to the boy since he was a child. Can you imagine how depressed he was since childhood? Jyl was the only one who gave him a little relief, but don't forget that after wy came to lotus peir , he got the full attention of not only his father but also his sister. He was so alone but still loved & cared wy. How is it when not only parents but others compare him with wy and always say that you can't do this and that?  He was a little boy then , Because of his family & others his insecurity about himself and the feeling that no one likes him increased.

He was not 16-17 years old when the collapsed clan was handed over to him.  The entire clan has been destroyed, there are about 50-100 people.  Even his parents were killed and he could not find his brother. Also, he lost his golden core when he went to protect wy. Don't forget that time wen chao captured him and tortured him, beating him with discipline whips after removing his golden core. And he had to see his people killed in front of his eyes and had to see his whole clan burn to ashes . And that time how many people tried to take his place because he was young and had no one to help him?   No one can imagine his mental state at that time. But, he endured all of them and rebuilt the clan from scratch.

After wy came back, others blamed jc for all of wy's mistakes. Jc is angry because wy didn't choose him. At a time when his clan is still being built, jc can't choose both his brother and the members of the wen clan. That's why he told his brother to come to him, because he will protect his brother no matter what anyone says. Yiling belonged to yunmenng and who protected them during those three years? And he wasn't there  at JZ's death, so he believed the rumours. And think about it, he is a brother as well as a clan leader.  If he makes a small mistake, it will go outside his clan. And if he doesn't go with wy's seige, what will happen to his rebuilding clan? His sister died in front of his eyes and went to protect wy. Not only that ,in front of his eyes wy divested  his qi.(I am talking about the mdzs plot because the plot of cql/tu has been completely changed)  He loved his brother & sister  more than his parents. Because Yanali and Xian were like his parents since childhood.    

    Who can bear that pain within three years he lost his entire family. In the end, he was left with only that one-month-old child without parents. He didn't kill his brother, but everyone said he did. How does he feel the pain when others  says that?  God, he is  a human too.If he hates wy so much, why did he keep  chengquing a secret from everyone for 16 years? And when wy came back he knew it was his brother. If he hates wy so much, he could have told everyone that he is back? And others don't know if it's true or false about jc torturing dark cultivatiors , it's all rumours. Also, even after wy came back, jc was angry because he chose lz instead of jc.  

He is sad and angry not because of anything, Because no matter how much he trusts wy, wy doesn't trust him. That's why he says that if wy hid the fact that he gave the golden core to jc as a secret, he will also keep the loss of his golden core as a secret. He knows that even if his brother comes back, he doesn't want him and that's why he let him go.  Jc's sacrifices for everyone, his pains, his everything are hidden from everyone by his outer character. 

If we take the story from the beginning to the end, is he not the one who has been alone all the time without anything and bearing all the pain alone? All he wanted was a loving family.

It's so sad that everyone misunderstands him without seeing his story from his side 💔.

Jiang cheng is a person who hide his soft and weak heart by acting strict .

Okay, people blame all the miscommunication on LWJ but have they ever considered how the situation may look from his pov? WWXs enormous crush is obvious to the readers but not to LWJ. His behaviour might seem confusing from the outside pov.

I think WWX's behaviour caused LWJ a lot of confusion and frustration.

I mean, WWX flirts with him pretty much in all their interactions across both his lives*. LWJ is very aware of this because he tells him, 'If you do not have those intentions, do not flirt with others. You are doing as you please yet others will be in turmoil.' (ch.54). He's not 'in turmoil' because he's jealous that WWX had been flirting with Mianmian (or at least, that's a minor part in it). WWX flirts with girls all the time, LWJ is aware of this, he's aware of the fact that WWX doesn't feel anything towards her (or any of the others), this is precisely the thing that frustrates him, because WWX behaves this way with him too (or at least appears to, LWJ has no way of knowing that WWX actually has real feelings for him. WWX doesn't even know this).

*Notable examples of flirty behaviour in his first life since there are somehow people who miss his planet-sized crush — Constantly trying to get LWJ's attention and calling him er-gege (not inherently flirty but is when taken in the context of everything else), drawing a portrait of LWJ & winking at him, seeking him out and saying 'did you miss me~' and giving him gifts, finding LWJ in the cold spring and draping himself over the rocks and murmuring 'lan zhan' in his ear then stripping, then purposefully trying to move closer to/touch LWJ while they're both nakey, throwing flowers for him at Phoenix Mountain & in Yunmeng (while knowing he is imitating how girls behave with their crushes), pretending to faint to 'trick' LWJ into catching and holding him when he visited Yiling.

When WWX is flirting with the jiejies in Caiyi town, JC comments that he is 'flirting around again,' (which carries a double meaning because WWX had just been flirting with LWJ too), so it is evident to LWJ that WWX casually flirts with whoever. WWX seems barely aware of what he's doing, which only frustrates LWJ further,

'Lan WangJi looked at him quietly, “Do you behave in such a frivolous way towards everyone?”

Wei WuXian thought for a second, “I think so?”

Lan WangJi looked at the ground. He only replied a moment later, “How impudent!”

The word was spat through gritted teeth and tinged with an inexplicable bitterness'.

As well as that, WWX several times suggests, or outright says, that he is straight.

When he gives LWJ straight porn — '“What kind of person are you?!” “What kind of person could I be? I’m a guy!” Wei Wuxian said. Lan Wangji’s tone was cutting. “You have no shame!” “I have to be ashamed? Don’t tell me you’ve never looked at these things. I don’t believe it.” Evidently, in WWX's view, looking at straight porn is just the standard expected thing for him to do, as a guy. He evens expects LWJ to have done so too. Obviously this is comphet talking, but to LWJ is simply comes across as if the boy he's crushing on is straight, and cannot even fathom being anything else. LWJ never appears to struggle with any expectation that he should be interested in women, nor does his family find his queerness unusual, so it's probable that WWX's struggles with his sexuality are hard for LWJ realise and understand at this point, esp because he's so young and preoccupied with his own feelings.

In the cold spring scene, WWX's flirting reaches unhinged levels, he also starts complimenting LWJ, and says, '“Lan Zhan, did you figure out what I was trying to do earlier?” “No,” Lan Wangji replied. “Really, you didn’t know? I was kissing up to you so you’d be my friend.” Lan Wangji side-eyed him. “What are you trying to accomplish?”' LWJ asks WWX what exactly his intentions are, clearly he thinks just trying to be friends is not a good explanation for the things WWX does. But WWX insists he really just wants LWJ to be his friend, he says if he's his friend he'll share his porn books (btw the word used is 春宫图 which refers exclusively to het erotica), then WWX goes on to insist that girls won't like how LWJ is behaving, then tries to convince him to come to Yunmeng with the promise that there are pretty girls there. So WWX really does just repeatedly flirt with LWJ, in this situation he does not only reiterate that he is attracted to women, but also just operates under the assumption that LWJ is too. LWJ again can only reasonably take from this interaction that WWX firmly identifies as straight and isn't generally open to anything else.

(Yes bisexuality exists but I do not think characters within the text (or perhaps the text itself) have much awareness of that. Eg, it is decided based on MXY's cutsleeve behaviour that he cannot possibly be WWX, because it was widely 'known' that WWX was attracted to women. Aside from that, imo MXTX repeatedly wrote all these examples of WWX's supposed attraction to women with the purpose of it coming across to LWJ as if WWX could not possibly return his feelings because LWJ's unconditional love of him with no expectation of anything in return is a key part of his character. From a storytelling perspective there isn't really any other reason for these scenes to exist.)

And then there is that infamous scene in Xuanwu Cave when WWX strips and pulls LWJ's clothes off too, pretending that he has certain intentions, though his real purpose was obvs to help LWJ. (Also I think 'Wei WuXian took off all of his clothes and tore them to shreds, “What do I want to do? Right now, we two are the only ones here. I’m already making it so obvious— what do you think I want to do?”' (ch.54) echoes the cold spring scene — 'Wei Wuxian kicked off his boots, removed his clothes, and threw them everywhere. “I took off all my clothes and you’re still asking me what I’m doing here."' (ch.18), implying that WWX was on some level aware of how his actions came across back then, though couldn't consciously address it). The exchange ends with LWJ asking WWX not to do things like this, 'Although he knew that it was out of good will, Lan WangJi still seemed a bit annoyed, “… Can you not make this kind of joke again?!”' He's still annoyed in large part because this is not the first time WWX has pulled this exact trick, 'good will' is not all there is to it. WWX misunderstands and decides to placate him by assuring him that he is straight, '"Don’t worry—I don’t like men, I won’t take advantage of the opportunity and do anything to you.”' Unsurprisingly, this only seems to annoy LWJ further. Probably because WWX has constantly been making these types of 'jokes' and the fact that WWX seemingly has no real feelings behind them is precisely why LWJ reacts badly to it.

LWJ isn't someone who lacks empathy and understanding, when it comes to WWX he is always watching him. So, it probably does occur to him that WWX's insistence that he is straight can perhaps not be taken at face value (especially when they spend a lot of time together in WWX's second life). Actually, after the Phoenix Mountain flower throwing, LWJ is quite insistent that WWX admit to being to one who did it, 'Holding the flower, Lan WangJi seemed to be quite cold. His tone seemed cold as well, “Was it you?”' Then in Yunmeng, LWJ asks WWX why he did it 'Lan WangJi, “Why?” Wei WuXian, “Why not? I just wanted to see how you’d react to such a thing.” Lan WangJi, “Ridiculous.”' (LWJ responds here with his signature '无聊', which carries a connotation of doing something pointless, because you're so bored you have nothing else to do, which I think is reflective of how he takes WWX's flirting overall.)

So, LWJ probably considers the possibility that there is actually something more to WWX's flirting, and wants to get him to admit he does it and asks him why he does it. But I think LWJ is also hesitant to dwell on this possibility too much as he is very fearful of violating WWX's boundaries, I think he's very concerned about wishful thinking or making assumptions or inadvertently projecting his feelings onto WWX. All this is also reflected in how LWJ warns WWX several times in his second life to be aware of his actions/words ('Mark your words', 'are you sure you want to do this', 'do not fool around', 'you reap what you sow'), he sincerely wants WWX to think about what he does, he doesn't want to allow or reciprocate WWX's advances if there's a possibility he's just messing around and doesn't mean it. Basically, he really wants to avoid a situation where they do anything together for any reason other than that's what WWX truly wants.
