my absolute favourite favourite favourite trope in fanfic is when thorin is outwardly a grouchy, ill tempered scowling dwarf whom bilbo just silently watches from afar lamenting the fact that someone like That would never give someone like Him the time of day-
and then the perspective shifts to thorin and we get to just listen to this smitten fool plan out their wedding in extreme detail all while waxing poetry about the sunlight shining through bilbo’s curls in his mind i just,,
Went from 'what if I drew Eclipse" to "what if I worked on my Lord Elipse!AU design" to "you have been in the magma for 10 hours go to bed". There's things I'd like to change, I want something a bit different for his design than my 'default' DCA, and I'm still not certain about the drips from his crown. But it was a lot of fun!
(If you're wondering 'shit how did you do that in _Magma_: soft eraser at about half opacity and density, soft pen also at half opacity and density, hard pen at full opacity and density. go back and forth between them to get smoother edges. use the lineart as part of the highlights. for the metal i looked up a tutorial)
You know, I used to be neutral on the Mairon debate, however overexposure has turned me into a firm hater. Quenya wasn’t even extant when Sauron left his kin! His “real name” isn’t Mairon, it’s Precious (abstract concept directly telepathically communicated). And he shows no objection to being called Sauron—this is the guy who embraced the villain aesthetic so hard his evil tower is next to a volcano and all his horses are black. He’s a cackling tormentor who leaned hard into being Gorthaur, the Lord of the Werewolves, the Necromancer of Dol-Guldur. Tar-Mairon is a personal in-joke from the one of the comparatively minuscule periods when he wasn’t playing up the dread sorcerer look, it’s not representative of what he’s regularly called (no, not even by his followers).
Go check out Beary The Hatchet!!! GREAT game overall, these characters have been in festering in my mind for the past few days. You can also rate the game for the Spooktober Visual Novel Jam, so go do that too if you want!
(The first pic would be an offshoot of the "Hidden" ending, where Pearl manages to save Grizz from the bear trap. At a cost.)
