K-pop fans rejoice! Tomorrow X Together is set to ring in 2023 with Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest. The news was announced on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022 and people couldn’t be more excited.

In a tweet, the Gen-Z band revealed they will be playing their hits “Good Boy Gone Bad” and “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)” from Disneyland for the celebration. Other New Year’s Rockin’ Eve performers will include Ciara, Fitz and the Tantrums, Maddie & Tae, Billy Porter, Shaggy, Ben Platt, Aly & AJ, Halle Bailey, Wiz Khalifa, Finneas, and more, according to Billboard.

Fans of the group may be well acquainted with the South Korean crooners, but many others are wondering who exactly they are. The band is made up of Yeonjun, 23, Soobin, 22, Beomgyu, 21, Taehyun, 20, and HueningKai, 20, and they’ve been singing together since 2019. In that time, they’ve become giant stars, with huge crossover vibes.

They debuted in 2019

Plans for TxT were teased in 2017 by their record company, Big Hit Music, but the band didn’t debut their first EP, The Dream Chapter: Star, until Mar. 2019. According to their website, their name refers to five individuals who “come together under one dream in hopes of building a better tomorrow.”

Since their start, they’ve only gotten closer. Talking to NME in 2021, HueningKai said, “Our teamwork is certainly one aspect that continues to further improve with each month and year that we spend together. We can see eye-to-eye and support one another on our journey of growth both as a team and as individuals, and I think it’s really a great thing! We’re brothers.”

TxT made Billboard history

The band’s lead single “Crown” was a big hit and it even made Billboard chart history for a time. The track entered the US Billboard 200 at number 140, making it the highest-charting debut album by a male K-pop group to that date. The song also debuted at number one on the Billboard Emerging Artists chart.

They perform in multiple languages

TxT’s first two studio albums, The Dream Chapter: Magic (2019) and The Chaos Chapter: Freeze (2021), were written and sung in Korean. They expanded their reach with 2021’s Still Dreaming, which is sung in Japanese. It consists of six Japanese versions of previous Korean hits, two new instrumental tracks, an original Japanese titled “Force”, and the band’s previous Japanese release “Everlasting Shine.”

They’re on the same label as BTS

TxT is on Big Hit Music, the same label behind BTS’s success. They were the first boy band that the label debuted since BTS’s blockbuster run began back in 2013. The project was a long time coming. Big Hit founder Bang Si-hyuk hinted at plans for the group all the way back in 2017.

The group made it clear they’re not a “little brother” band to BTS in a 2021 interview with NME. “We’ve always told our own story from our debut till today and it’s a story that many have been able to relate to precisely because it’s a very real story of people living within this generation,” they said. “We’ve worked with many genres to enhance our musical capabilities and hone our sound, and through this sound, we tell stories of our generation, a generation at the crux of growth.”

The band announced plans to release the album The Name Chapter in Nov 2022. It follows their earlier EPs The Dream Chapter and The Chaos Chapter.

They teased the album with a dreamy concept trailer in early Dec. 2022, seen on Billboard. In the teaser, TxT floats around freely before being pulled up by a demon via marionette strings. Left stranded, they’re forced to take a leap of faith.

World Aquatic Animal Day

Did you know the ocean contains about a million different species? Learn about marine life, visit an aquarium, or raise awareness about the threats to the ocean.

Because (most) humans do not actually live underwater, it is easy to forget the vast array and variety of aquatic animals that populate the oceans, seas, lakes, and other bodies of water on our planet!

Aquatic animals may be vertebrates or invertebrates. They may breathe air or extract oxygen through gills or the skin. And they may live in either freshwater or saltwater. But no matter what their differences are, one thing is for sure–aquatic animals deserve to be noticed and appreciated!

World Aquatic Animal Day is centered around humans taking the time to learn about and acknowledge the importance of all of these creatures who make their homes in the water.

History of World Aquatic Animal Day

Created in 2020, World Aquatic Animal Day was created by folks over at Animal Law Clinic at the Lewis & Clark Law School (Portland, Oregon, USA) who wanted to bring attention to the importance of aquatic animals to our societies and ecosystems. Widely used around the world, aquatic animals are often at risk due to the interactions humans have directly with the animals, or indirectly through the corruption of their habitats.

In addition to ‘fish’, the category of aquatic animals includes a variety of other creatures, such as mollusks, crustaceans, aquatic birds, starfish, corals, aquatic insects, amphibians, marine mammals, reptiles, and more.

The idea for World Aquatic Animal Day is to raise global awareness so that humans all over the world would band together to create policies, laws, education, and outreach that will help to protect these valuable animals. The hope is to elevate the status of these creatures so that people are more likely to take an active role in learning about and acting on behalf of them. Different ideas for protecting these animals continue to be featured, from plastic pollution to climate change issues.

Many organizations throughout the world participated in the first World Aquatic Animal Day in 2020, including Canada, Chile, Australia, South Africa, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Croatia, Norway, Russia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and more.

The hope is that many more will join in for future days in the coming years. The more people who get involved, the better!

How to Celebrate World Aquatic Animal Day

Celebrating the animals under the sea is the idea of World Aquatic Animal Day, and there are tons of ways to do it!

Watch a Documentary about Sea Life

Getting educated about aquatic animals doesn’t have to be boring. Learning from film crews that have been deep-sea diving can be a thrilling way to see, enjoy and appreciate the myriad of animals that live in the water.

Try out these documentaries:

The Blue Planet (2001). First airing on the BBC, this riveting series of shows gives a glimpse into life in the ocean. It was filmed in more than 200 different locations over a five year time period. And Sir David Attenborough’s voice over simply makes the ocean seem that much more compelling.

Turtle: The Incredible Journey (2009). This film uniquely follows the life of one sea turtle beating the odds, from when she was hatched to facing the natural and unnatural threats that occur in the life of such a creature.

Mission Blue (2014). Featuring the life and work of Dr. Sylvia Earl, a marine biologist and oceanographer, this documentary shows her life as it is dedicated to the study of the ocean, having spent thousands of hours of time in its depths.

Life in the Blue (2016). Showcasing the extraordinary variety and range of life that exists in the expanses of the ocean, this documentary specifically targets what takes place just under the surface in a small band of 10 meter deep water. Whether looking for shelter or hunting and foraging for food, aquatic animals participate in a host of activities in this rather small space.

Host an Under the Sea Party

Get family and friends involved in raising awareness of the needs of aquatic animals by inviting them over for a party that dives deep into the theme. Make the place festive with sea-worthy decorations and play tunes from a water-themed playlist (see below).

Serve snacks and desserts that stick with the theme of honoring aquatic animals, including cupcakes adorned with gummy fish, goldfish cheese or graham crackers, cookies baked starfish shapes or a veggie tray organized in the shape of a rainbow fish.

Fruit treats are fabulous for sea-themed parties! Oranges can be easily fashioned to create the look of an octopus by partially peeling eight strips and then leaving them sticking out from the bottom. (Draw on eyes with a non-toxic marker.) Apples can be creatively sliced to appear as crabs, while banana halves can be adorned with an eye and the stem cut to look like dolphins. And a watermelon can be creatively carved to channel the look of a sea turtle!

Raise Awareness for Aquatic Animal Day

Get others involved in the issues facing these creatures by holding events at work, school, clubs or other places where the community gathers. Make posters, host lecturers, or create a family-friendly charity event where the money is raised to donated to underwater wildlife funds. Don’t forget to use your voice to let government representatives know about the need to protect these creatures by writing letters to ask them for better rules, regulations, and laws.

Put Together an Aquatic Animals Playlist

Getting into the groove of music is a great way to bring sea creatures to the forefront of the mind–whether alone or at a party! Gather some eclectic songs together in a playlist on Spotify or another music hosting venue and jam in honor of the aquatic animals.

Campaigners on Tuesday applauded leaders in the Global South for continuing to lead the way in the fight for far-reaching climate action as the island nation of Tuvalu brought a proposal for a fossil fuel nonproliferation treaty to the United Nations' annual climate change conference.

"We all know that the leading cause of climate crisis is fossil fuels," Kausea Natano, prime minister of Tuvalu, told global leaders at COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. "It's getting too hot and there is very [little] time to slow and reverse the increasing temperature. Therefore, it is essential to prioritize fast-acting strategies."

By formally endorsing the creation of a treaty, said the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative, Tuvalu is "proactively seeking solutions to phase out fossil fuels and offer hope to its population and the world."

Tuvalu became the second nation to endorse a treaty which would approach the extraction of fossil fuels as a danger as grave as nuclear weapons, which are the focus of a nonproliferation treaty signed by nearly 100 countries.

Vanuatu proposed a fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty at the U.N. General Assembly in September, and advocates celebrated last month when the European Union overwhelmingly passed a resolution formally endorsing the treaty—one year after lawmakers had voted it down.

Following Natano's statement at COP27, environmental scientist Amy Clarke tweeted that "there is an inexorable move towards" a fossil fuel nonproliferation treaty.

The treaty would ban the proliferation of coal, oil, and gas by ending all new production and extraction projects; phase out existing production; and ensure a just transition toward renewable energy that would "enable economic diversification" and "support every worker, community, and country."

Despite the support of the E.U. along with dozens of international cities, the World Health Organization and nearly 200 other global health groups, and more than 100 Nobel laureates in addition to Vanuatu and Tuvalu, The Washington Post reported that Natano's call "didn't get much engagement" from the assembled leaders at COP27.

"Pacific leaders continue to show what true climate leadership looks like," said climate activist Brianna Fruean. "From their key role in the Paris agreement, to the fight to limit warming to 1.5 degrees, to the historic endorsement of the fossil fuel treaty today."

"You may have heard the phrase '1.5 to stay alive' from young Pacific people at COP27 this year," Fruean added. "This is not an exaggeration or a catchy slogan, our very survival depends on whether or not leaders display the bravery and the political will to do everything in their power to limit us to 1.5 degrees of warming."

Caroline Lucas, a member of British Parliament representing the Green Party, denounced her own Tory-led government for offering new oil and gas leases to companies in the North Sea and handing out billions of dollars in fossil fuel subsidies since the Paris climate agreement was forged in 2015.

Jon Bernthal (“The Punisher,” “The Walking Dead”), Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, “Avengers: Infinity War”), the “Charmed” duo of Holly Marie Combs and Rose McGowan, Peter Cullen (Transformers) and Jason Lee (Vanilla Sky, Almost Famous) have been added to the celebrity lineup at FAN EXPO New Orleans, set for January 5-7, 2024, at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

They join a standout roster of stars at FAN EXPO New Orleans that includes Danny Trejo (Machete, The Book of Boba Fett), the "Daredevil" tandem of Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio, Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars’ “The Mandalorian”) and voice acting stars of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” Barry Gordon (“Donatello”), Cam Clarke (“Leonardo”), Townsend Coleman (“Michelango”) and Rob Paulsen (“Raphael”).

Bernthal played the lead “Frank Castle” in the Netflix Marvel series “Daredevil” after a popular run as “Shane Walsh” in the AMC hit drama “The Walking Dead.” The classically trained Bernthal most recently starred in last year’s “American Gigolo” on Showtime and has appeared in such large-scale productions as World Trade Center, The Pacific and Rampart, and has had guest roles on top TV series like "CSI: Miami," "Boston Legal," "Without a Trace" and "How I Met Your Mother."

Gunn played "Kraglin" in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and its sequels in 2017 and this year, as well as providing the physical performance via motion capture for "Rocket Raccoon" in the films plus Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder. He also portrayed "Kirk Gleason" throughout the seven-year run of "Gilmore Girls" among his 60+ acting credits.

Combs starred in "Charmed," which ran for eight seasons and has adopted a huge, loyal following since, as "Piper Halliwell," one of three witch sisters fighting evil in modern day San Francisco. That followed her breakout role in 88 episodes of the hit series "Picket Fences" and later led to appearances in more than 30 series and movies and a long run as "Ella Montgomery" on "Pretty Little Liars."

Her “Charmed” co-star McGowan played long-lost sister "Paige Matthews" for the final five seasons of the series. The Italian-born actress first caught major attention for her role as "Tatum Riley" in the horror blockbuster Scream (1996) opposite Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette. She has appeared in more than 60 films and shows as an actress and is also an accomplished producer and director.

Cullen is a voice actor in 200+ films and TV shows, notably portraying "Optimus Prime" in numerous iterations of the "Transformers" franchise. Some of his other well-known works include roles in "Winnie The Pooh," "Chip 'n' Dale," "The Flintstone Kids" and dozens of others.

A native of Southern California, Lee is a photographer, producer, director, and actor. Having established a successful career as a professional skateboarder during skateboarding's pivotal late 80s and early 90s period, Lee would go on to pursue acting, which would lead to working in film, television, and voiceover, and with such directors as Kevin Smith, Lawrence Kasdan, Cameron Crowe and Rebecca Miller.

Few things are more quintessentially, uniquely American than Minor League Baseball. Played out in small and not-so-small cities from Portland, Me. to San Bernardino by teams both affiliated and unaffiliated with Major League Baseball, the summer game on the minor league level proves an affordable, entertaining night out. As a bonus, it’s a coalescing force uniting folks of all ages and backgrounds in support of their teams.

And what fun lover could resist a pastime spawning such memorable team names as the Rocket City Trash Pandas, Toledo Mud Hens or Amarillo Sod Poodles?

In recent years, MiLB stadiums have done more than serve as backdrop for date nights and family outings. In many cities, the decision to place new ballparks downtown has lured folks back to central cities, helping catalyze downtown revivals and revitalization of entire swaths of downtown real estate.

That renewal in turn has triggered a virtuous cycle. It has sparked development of new homes and opening of new eateries, shops and businesses in central cities. And it’s brought vital community gathering spots to urban hubs. You might say the MiLB downtown stadium is the gift that keeps on giving.

As the boys of summer celebrate their annual rite of autumn with the Major League Baseball postseason, let’s examine a trio of those cities, teams and ballparks.

Intentional anchor

In Fayetteville, N.C. a struggling downtown was accorded new life when the city council earmarked more than $100 million for an urban revitalization built around development of a $40.2 million downtown ballpark.

Unveiled in April, 2019, Segra Stadium, home of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers of the Low-A Carolina League, has meant new beginnings for the city where Babe Ruth stroked his first professional home run.

New enterprises have arrived in waves, starting with small businesses and leading to a new Hyatt Place Hotel, parking garage and office space. Since its launch, the ballpark has attracted more than 30 new surrounding businesses. What some have called the “intentional anchor” of the stadium has been a particular boon to women- and Black-owned businesses. A Lending Tree study conducted this year noted Fayetteville has the highest percentage of businesses owned by people of color in the U.S.

Mirroring what’s happened in other cities, Segra Stadium has brought residents back to the Cool Spring Downtown District of Fayetteville. Some 54,000 square feet of new residential development has arrived since the park’s opening. Under construction are another 20,000 square feet, with 150,000 square feet planned. “These numbers illustrate so well what a tangible asset the stadium has been to the Cool Spring Downtown District,” says Bianca Shoneman, the district’s president and CEO.

Philanthropic pillar

Central city minor league baseball stadiums tend not to go unused when the home team is on the road, or when the MiLB season concludes for another year.

Nowhere is that truer than in Sugar Land, Texas. There, the city’s movers and shakers intended Constellation Field to be not just the home of the city’s Triple-A Space Cowboys MiLB team, but the entire community’s “home base.” In 2017, it served as a temporary shelter for those displaced by Hurricane Harvey. Reflecting the Space Cowboys’ spirit of community involvement, it’s also hosted volunteer fairs and blood drives, carving out a niche as a true pillar of community philanthropy.

Downtown growth

More than $200 million in new Clark County development has followed relocation of a California MiLB franchise to Summerlin, Nev. and The Howard Hughes Corp.’s 2019 unveiling of the $150 million, 10,000-seat downtown Las Vegas Ballpark. The stadium is home of the Triple-A Las Vegas Aviators, an Oakland A’s affiliate.

The park’s arrival has been the catalyst for the development of 1700 Pavilion, a 10-story, 267,000-square-foot downtown Summerlin office building. Last year, in the wake of the relocation of the team and the opening of the stadium, the city sold 1,456 new homes, representing a 10% surge over sales tallied two years earlier.

The term “If you build it they will come,” is famously associated with a classic film. But increasingly, U.S. minor league cities are finding what was conveyed on a reel is a truism for real.

Poe hates paperwork, but it’s a pretty unavoidable part of the job. Especially since he’s half-in charge now, and Finn can’t figure out the filing system to save his life. Poe misses flying as much as he used to, but it’s a bit better this way. It’s good to have him on the ground more since he and you decided that you wanted to start trying for kids, and it’s easier to stay in the loop on matters when he isn’t halfway across the galaxy.

You, on the other hand, have been in the air more often than you’ve been on the ground. There’s been an influx of new recruits since the end of the war—which seems a little backwards, but Poe isn’t complaining—and he had insisted that you train them. You’re the Resistance’s best pilot after your husband, after all, and if he couldn’t do the training, he wanted you to do it.

When Poe heard the gentle rapping on his office door, he had to fight back the overwhelming urge to groan. Instead, he called out an annoyed “come in” and leaned back in his chair to face his guest.

He was on you before you even managed to shut the door behind you. His lips pressed to yours like he was starving for your touch, and you happily obliged him. It’s been a while since you’ve had free time that isn’t late at night, so naturally you want to see your husband—and maybe have some quality time together.

You cast a glance over his shoulder as he pulls back for air, and suddenly you’re hit with a fantasy you’ve never explored before. “Do you want to… hi.”

He furrows his eyebrows at you as your hands trail up to tangle into his dense curls. “Do I want to hi?”

You laugh softly at that, a fleeting noise that goes straight below his belt. He hadn’t realized just how much he missed you until you were in his arms.

“Sorry. I was going to ask if you wanted to do me on your desk, but I thought I should say ‘hi’ first.”

“Hi.” Poe scoops you up in an instant, haphazardly clearing his papers off the wooden surface of his desk before he sets you down and presses his lips back to yours, hips stuttering forward as your hands fumble with his belt buckle. “Fuck yes.”

Popular DC Characters and Their Canon Religions

(Thought about doing this bc I thought it would be cool and interesting to do plus I’m still obsessed with gradient text)

(Also these are based off the Prime Earth or New Earth Versions of the characters)

(And there are a lot of characters who aren’t on this list bc they have no confirmed religion)

Edit: I re-did this with evidence directly from comics as to the character’s religion.

Batwoman (Katherine Kane) Jewish

The Kane’s are implied to be part of the Reform Judaism branch of Judaism. more evidence to her being Jewish is in DC Infinite Holiday Special (2006) we see her celebrating Hanukkah with her girlfriend, Renee. In Detective Comics #854, #858 and in Batwoman #7 you can find more evidence of her being Jewish.

Batman (Bruce Wayne) Atheist

He grew up Christian with his father, Thomas Wayne, being a big influence, but his mother, Martha Wayne was Jewish. Batman in issue Batman #30-#33 (written by Tom King) has it confirmed that he doesn’t believe in a God. Also in Justice League (2016) in #23 its also confirmed he’s an Atheist.

Black Canary (Dinah Lance) Christian

In Wonder Woman #34 Wonder Woman asks Black Canary directly if she’s Christian and she says “Yeah, I mean it's complicated, but sure.”

Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) Christian

It’s assumed he’s Christian as in Blue Beetle (Volume 7) #9 there is an imagine of Jesus in his house and in Blue Beetle (Volume 7) #21 Alberto mentions going to church with him.

Booster Gold (Michael Carter) Atheist

My favorite boi has openly admitted to being atheist in Justice League International Annual #2.

Doctor Fate (Khalid Nassour) Muslim

He’s an Egyptian-American and both of his parents are Muslim and it has been confirmed by DC that he also follows Islam.

Doctor Fate (Eric Strauss) Jewish

He was mostly raised by his Jewish step-mother Linda Strauss and therefore it’s assumed that he also follows and believes Judaism.

Dove (Wiley Wolverman) Atheist

In Hawke and Dove (Volume 4) #4 it’s stated he doesn’t believe in God.

Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) (Christian on New Earth) (Jewish/Christian on Prime Earth)

So it’s been stated that Hal is Christian, but when Prime Earth came along he had adjustments to his background and we got a glimpse of his father, Martin Jordan, who was Catholic, and his mother, Jessica Jordan, who was Jewish and them celebrating Hanukkah. In current comics it’s shown that Hal believes in God, but whether that is the Jewish or Christian God is up to interpretation.

Green Lantern (Jessica Cruz) Atheist

In Green Lantern #42 we see Jessica and Simon’s religion clash and its confirmed that she is Atheist.

Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner) Christian

In the Omega Men series we see Kyle Rayner reference back to his Catholic mother and in turn he speaks of following that faith and he even prays on several occasions.

Green Lantern (Simon Baz) Muslim

In Green Lantern #42 we see Jessica and Simon’s religion clash and its confirmed that he is Muslim.

Harley Quinn (Harleen Quinzel) Jewish

There have been references to her being Jewish since her first comic with celebrating Hanukkah, but she was finally confirmed to be Jewish in Gotham City Sirens #7.

Huntress (Helena Bertenelli) Christian

Her backstory states she comes form an Italian Catholic family as well as the fact she has a cross on her costume.

Joker Atheist

Guy hates God and Gods and any higher power as well as doesn’t believe in them even though he’s met a few. Plus with all the sad backstories he has I wouldn’t be surprised if he lost his faith before becoming the Joker.

Lex Luthor (Alexander Luthor) Atheist

He was written during the Cold War and many villains were actually written to be atheists to basically see them as even more evil. Plus the guys ego is too big to believe in anything more powerful than himself.

Mister Freeze (Victor Fries) Atheist

In Outsiders (Volume 4) #21 its confirmed he’s an atheist as he says he doesn't believe in an afterlife.

Mister Terrific (Michael Holt) Atheist

In Infinite Crisis #5 it’s confirmed that he’s an atheist and doesn’t believe in anyone, but himself and his team.

Red Robin (Timothy Drake) Atheist

Confirmed in a Red Robin #22 he says he doesn’t believe in a higher power(s).

Supergirl (Kara Zor-El) Raoist

Easily explainable as she grew up on Krypton and follows it’s religion.

Superman (Clark Kent) Christian

He was created by two Jewish guys, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. He was raised by two Midwestern Methodists, Martha Kent and Jonathan Kent, and therefore follows their religion

Also Raoism (Rao-Orthodox) is the Kryptonian religion based on the god Rao. The religion has like 14 major deities, 200+ demigods and 1000+ titans. And one of their major deities name is Nightwing...guess where Dick’s name came from?

World Aquatic Animal Day

Because (most) humans do not actually live underwater, it is easy to forget the vast array and variety of aquatic animals that populate the oceans, seas, lakes, and other bodies of water on our planet!

Aquatic animals may be vertebrates or invertebrates. They may breathe air or extract oxygen through gills or the skin. And they may live in either freshwater or saltwater. But no matter what their differences are, one thing is for sure–aquatic animals deserve to be noticed and appreciated!

World Aquatic Animal Day is centered around humans taking the time to learn about and acknowledge the importance of all of these creatures who make their homes in the water.

History of World Aquatic Animal Day

Created in 2020, World Aquatic Animal Day was created by folks over at Animal Law Clinic at the Lewis & Clark Law School (Portland, Oregon, USA) who wanted to bring attention to the importance of aquatic animals to our societies and ecosystems. Widely used around the world, aquatic animals are often at risk due to the interactions humans have directly with the animals, or indirectly through the corruption of their habitats.

In addition to ‘fish’, the category of aquatic animals includes a variety of other creatures, such as mollusks, crustaceans, aquatic birds, starfish, corals, aquatic insects, amphibians, marine mammals, reptiles, and more.

The idea for World Aquatic Animal Day is to raise global awareness so that humans all over the world would band together to create policies, laws, education, and outreach that will help to protect these valuable animals. The hope is to elevate the status of these creatures so that people are more likely to take an active role in learning about and acting on behalf of them. Different ideas for protecting these animals continue to be featured, from plastic pollution to climate change issues.

Many organizations throughout the world participated in the first World Aquatic Animal Day in 2020, including Canada, Chile, Australia, South Africa, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Croatia, Norway, Russia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and more.

The hope is that many more will join in for future days in the coming years. The more people who get involved, the better!

How to Celebrate World Aquatic Animal Day

Celebrating the animals under the sea is the idea of World Aquatic Animal Day, and there are tons of ways to do it!

Watch a Documentary about Sea Life

Getting educated about aquatic animals doesn’t have to be boring. Learning from film crews that have been deep-sea diving can be a thrilling way to see, enjoy and appreciate the myriad of animals that live in the water.

Try out these documentaries:

The Blue Planet (2001). First airing on the BBC, this riveting series of shows gives a glimpse into life in the ocean. It was filmed in more than 200 different locations over a five year time period. And Sir David Attenborough’s voice over simply makes the ocean seem that much more compelling.

Turtle: The Incredible Journey (2009). This film uniquely follows the life of one sea turtle beating the odds, from when she was hatched to facing the natural and unnatural threats that occur in the life of such a creature.

Mission Blue (2014). Featuring the life and work of Dr. Sylvia Earl, a marine biologist and oceanographer, this documentary shows her life as it is dedicated to the study of the ocean, having spent thousands of hours of time in its depths.

Life in the Blue (2016). Showcasing the extraordinary variety and range of life that exists in the expanses of the ocean, this documentary specifically targets what takes place just under the surface in a small band of 10 meter deep water. Whether looking for shelter or hunting and foraging for food, aquatic animals participate in a host of activities in this rather small space.

Host an Under the Sea Party

Get family and friends involved in raising awareness of the needs of aquatic animals by inviting them over for a party that dives deep into the theme. Make the place festive with sea-worthy decorations and play tunes from a water-themed playlist (see below).

Serve snacks and desserts that stick with the theme of honoring aquatic animals, including cupcakes adorned with gummy fish, goldfish cheese or graham crackers, cookies baked starfish shapes or a veggie tray organized in the shape of a rainbow fish.

Fruit treats are fabulous for sea-themed parties! Oranges can be easily fashioned to create the look of an octopus by partially peeling eight strips and then leaving them sticking out from the bottom. (Draw on eyes with a non-toxic marker.) Apples can be creatively sliced to appear as crabs, while banana halves can be adorned with an eye and the stem cut to look like dolphins. And a watermelon can be creatively carved to channel the look of a sea turtle!

Raise Awareness for Aquatic Animal Day

Get others involved in the issues facing these creatures by holding events at work, school, clubs or other places where the community gathers. Make posters, host lecturers, or create a family-friendly charity event where the money is raised to donated to underwater wildlife funds. Don’t forget to use your voice to let government representatives know about the need to protect these creatures by writing letters to ask them for better rules, regulations, and laws.

Put Together an Aquatic Animals Playlist

Getting into the groove of music is a great way to bring sea creatures to the forefront of the mind–whether alone or at a party! Gather some eclectic songs together in a playlist on Spotify or another music hosting venue and jam in honor of the aquatic animals.

Poe’s trying really hard to focus. Really, he is. But with your warm body pressed against his chest, it’s really difficult. You know what you’re doing to him; at least, you think you do. You don’t realize that you’re doing a lot more than just riling him up, though.

When you slid under his arms, it was under the premise of getting a peek at his sabacc hand. Then, you casually sat up in the little circle created by his arms as he held his cards so you could “help” him with his game. Finn, who sat across from Poe, had been smirking the entire time like he could hear the way that Poe’s heart had started pounding when you casually leaned back against his chest.

Finn knows something you don’t, after all. Finn knows that Poe is catching feelings for you.

It wasn’t like he’d planned to fall for you. You and him had a casual agreement that when one of you was frustrated, you could release the tension together. Naked. No, he hadn’t planned to catch feelings. But he did, and now every time you try to initiate something it makes him light-headed.

You’re oblivious to this, of course. You just think that his heart is pounding because he got the message that you’re frustrated. And he did get the message, when you gently wiggled your ass up against his crotch as you were getting settled, but his heart is pounding because the woman he loves is in his arms and you have no idea that he’s in love with you.

“I’m gonna go grab a drink,” you smile as Poe tosses his cards to Finn, their game finally over. “You want to come with?”

Finn gives a permissive nod and mumbles a “goodnight” before Poe follows you to your quarters.

“Hey,” you laugh softly as he peppers kisses across your shoulders.

“Hey,” he echoes, pulling back as you lift your shirt over your head.

“You’ve been acting… different tonight,” you point out as gently as you can. You eagerly lean into his touch as his hands trace up your torso to cup your breasts. “Is something wrong?”

For a moment, Poe subconsciously panics. Oh fuck, he thinks, you noticed. You noticed how his heart flutters every time he’s around you. You noticed how he can’t keep his eyes off of you. You noticed how his jaw sets every time another guy talks to you.

You gently take his hands in yours, holding them flush against your breasts as you look into his eyes. It’s a little hard to tell in the dim lighting of your quarters, but you’re pretty sure his cheeks are flushed. He’s hoping that you won’t notice since most of the lights are off.

“Oh, sweet, darling Poe,” you laugh gently, squeezing his hands. “You’re falling for me, aren’t you?”

He blanches, jaw hanging open slightly as your laughter fleets over him. It’s only a moment before he regains his composure, but that single moment tells you everything you need to know.

“No. Of course not.” But his answer is too little, too late.

You smile to yourself as you start pressing kisses to his exposed neck. He tilts his head to the side instinctively to give you better access, a little surprised that you haven’t run off yet. His lie wasn’t exactly smooth.

“That’s a relief,” you sigh, and your warm breath against his flushed skin sends a shiver down his spine. “Because if we both had feelings, we’d have to talk about what that meant for this.” Your hands ghost over his shoulders and down his back to give his ass a playful squeeze as you emphasize your last word, and he lets out a surprised moan at the pleasant sensation.

And then he processes your words. “Wait, what-”

“C’mon, Poe,” you laugh gently, lightly pushing your fingers under the hem of his shirt. “You didn’t seriously think this was ever going to stay platonic, did you?”

In all honesty, he had. You’d never let on before that you had any interest in him as more than a casual release. Although he had been desperately hoping for it to turn into something more, he had tried not to fool himself into believing it would.

“If this is some kind of sick joke-”

You shake your head solemnly. “Poe, you know I’m not that kind of person. I have feelings for you, and I’m kind of hoping that you reciprocate them. But we can talk about this later. Right now, I really want to touch you.”

You sink to your knees, and Poe’s more than happy to finish this conversation later.
