Personality disorders

So, what is a personality disorder?

— A personality disorder is an enduring pattern of inner experience and behaviour that causes an individual distress and an inability to function. They usually develop in teenage years or early adulthood

There are 10 personality disorders listed in the DSM-V and they're organised into three clusters

Cluster A personality disorders

– characterized by odd, eccentric thinking or behavior

PPD – Paranoid personality disorder

SzPD – Schizoid personality disorder

STPD - Schizotypal personality disorder

Cluster B personality disorders

– characterized by dramatic, overly emotional or unpredictable thinking or behavior

ASPD - Antisocial personality disorder

BPD - Borderline personality disorder, also known as EUPD (Emotionally unstable personality disorder)

HPD - Histrionic personality disorder

NPD - Narcissistic personality disorder

Cluster C personality disorders

– characterized by anxious, fearful thinking or behavior

AvPD - Avoidant personality disorder

DPD - Dependant personality disorder

OCPD - Obsessive compulsive personality disorder – (NOTE: OCPD and OCD AREN'T the same thing)

Causes of personality disorders:

– genetics

– brain changes

– childhood trauma

– verbal abuse

Each personality disorder has it's own set of symptoms, however all of them share two main ones which are:

– a lack of a clear or stable image of self

– struggling forming and keeping close relationships

Please note that recovery is possible with therapy, although everyone's experience will be different

This blog will focus on cluster B personality disorders, my own experiences and possibly other people's experience, although people from other clusters are welcomed to stay~

I just realized that cats are the literal embodiment of all personality disorders (which is probably why they're so amazing!):

PPD: suspicious of change

SZPD: loners & content to just chill in the same room as you for "socializing"

STPD: odd behavior

ASPD: easily annoyed

BPD: mood swings

HPD: needs attention 24/7

NPD: obviously superior

AVPD: skittish & anxious

DPD: "don't ever go away overnight ever again!"

OCPD: rigidity & stubbornness

Paranoic Lying/Paranoicover

Where one's paranoia, or PPD, causes them to lie. Rather, it be out of fear, anxiety, other related feelings, or perhaps another reason. One may lie about their identity/likes or dislikes/hobbies, etc, or bigger lies that may cause them trouble later on. It can be about anything.

Invisparanoic

Where ones paranoia, or PPD, causes an individual to never disclose, or keep private, information about themselves. Rather, it be due to fear, other related feelings, or perhaps another reason.

NPC Paranoic

Where one's paranoia, or PPD, drives them into being an NPC or act like an NPC. This could be due to wanting to blend in without being seen, from fear or other related feelings, or perhaps another reason.

Paranoic Verbalism

Where ones paranoia, or PPD, may affect their verbalism in any way. Rather, it be shutdowns, semi-verbal, speech loss, non-verbal, or however one wishes to describe it.

Come on down and join our server! We are an 18+ server for people with personality disorders to come and chill out with other people like them and make friends!

No matter what, we strive to be a more positive environment than most servers revolving around these disorders. Be aware we are strictly pro-recovery and any anti-recovery behavior will stopped.

Features Of The Server

(P-)DID, OSDD, and UDD safe! We have PluralKit and Tupperbox ready to go if your system uses that (we do not accept non-traumagenic systems)

Venting and ranting channels to get your feelings out! There are rules to make sure that everything goes smoothly and no matter what people feel safe.

Individual channels for each and every personality disorder including ones for Cluster Other so everyone feels included.

We have a thorough and planned out blacklist as well as a whitelist to ensure the safety of all members.

Slurs and derogatory terms are not allowed, but swearing (even to an extreme) is permitted!

Roles for all the Clusters including traits!

Note: We are currently looking for a Cluster A and Other helper(s) because as of now we only have B & C for staff.

SZPD flag (color meanings and full size flag under the cut)

Light Yellow: Masking

I used yellow for it because yellow stands for friendliness, and is also one of the brightest colors, and then I dulled it. Which signifies that people that mask use a personality that usually includes being more interactive and more interested in others. (please note that not everyone masks/can mask but there is no flag that has it included yet)

Darker Yellow: Generally not interested in platonic or romantic relationships.

Yellow again for friendship, but dulled because friendship seems dull.

Light Grey-Blue: Detachment

For feeling like you're just going through the motions of life, dissociation, etc.

Dark Blue: Elaborate and excessive internal fantasy world, daydreaming, and introspection.

Blue is a color associated with imagination and depth.

Black: Apathy

Please note that this flag may not resonate with everyone with szpd! It is mainly based on my experience with it.

to anyone with a demonised personality disorder who has vented about their experiences/thoughts/etc. and in turn had an ableist say something along the lines of "i came here to get the perspective of someone with this personality disorder and you just proved my point"

you are not the issue. they were never looking to educate themselves. they would scroll for hours just to find a single post that proves them right, ignoring everything else you talk about in between.

please do not feel bad about "adding to the stigma" by venting. you're not doing anything wrong. ableists love to enter spaces for people with demonised disorders to vent and then get upset when they find people talking about anything other than quirky/cute symptoms. it's happened to @narcissisticpdcultureis more times than i can count.

Anyone have any book recommendations for stories about mental illness?

I’d like to read about less talked about things like psychosis, hallucinations, personality disorders, etc.

I’ve found it’s easier to find books on ptsd/cptsd, depression, and anxiety disorders but it’s harder to find other things. But if anyone has recommendations on those topics too I’d still really appreciate it :)

Basically any book recommendations are welcome, and I also have some recommendations too if anyone is interested <3

Cluster - Cluster

A gender related to PPD in the Cluster A of personality disorders. Rather, PPD affects one gender, PPD is ones gender, or how one wishes to define it.

Complex Versus Simplified Versions of the Flag

Halfway fliped to symbolize how PPD in the Cluster A category is defined as being, "odd".

Stripe Meanings

Yellow to symbolize PPD

Saturated Peach to symbolize ones relationship with their PPD

Light saturated brown to represent Inclusionism, alongside acceptance of anyone/anykind

Dark green to symbolize the traits of PPD affecting, being, relating, etc. to ones gender

Greenish black for acceptance, self-love when having PPD and/or identifying as paranoicluster
