US!Papyrus isn’t like. All edgy and secretly suffering. He’s actually doing very well, he’s just very sleepy and tends to take things as they go. He loves his big brother very much and supports him in his endeavors and looks up to him a whole lot!! He’s still goofy too! US!Sans is a little chaotic, he has few cares like in canon but he has more energy and motivation, however, he does know about the resets and he does have lots on his shoulders, but he hides it behind a big smile so nobody will be scared. That’s what it means to be a royal guard after all.

Also for the sake of fun, I wanna swap the locations too... I’m thinking about sunnedout and coldsea for the names hehe,, also, asgore makes you nutmeg caramel tea instead of cinnamon butterscotch pie!

Underswap Headcanon

During a Genocide Route, Sans and Alphys concoct a plan together after Snowdin/SunnedOut's residents are escorted towards Waterfall/Lavarise; Sans will stay behind to fight the human and slow them down, while Alphys continues evacuating monsters. Sans, not able to remember RESETs, exactly, but knowing he's in a timeloop, tries to convince the human to stop, that they can turn their path around and end this with a bright future on the horizon. The human kills him and moves on. Napstaton NEO stands in the human's way at the border of Hotland/Coldsea, but their unfinished body is unable to handle the LV-boosted attacks from the humans, and they destroy him. They find Undyne waiting for them in the Lab, the meek scientist from previous (less Genocidal) runs nowhere to be seen; filled with DT that makes her features droop, she fights until she succumbs to the stronger source of Determination, but at least Alphys and the evacuees are safely locked behind the True Lab doors, and the human finishes out the Genocide Route (after multiple RESETs) with Papyrus' beheading, the Queen's instantaneous demise, and the cathartic shredding of fabric as they rip Temmie apart. Too bad they didn't account for their reflection in New Home coming to life and taking their SOUL when they refused to ERASE the timeline.

Content Info/Advisories:  Drowning imagery (but used metaphorically), temporary character death, buried in an avalanche, rebirth

Notes:  Mostly an attempt to write out an idea that was in my head expressed as half-blurred images more felt as impression and sensation than something that can be described in words.  Turned into a style experiment.  Expanding on this blurb from 2019 which is itself from an idea from like at least 2012 if not older.  It’s a bit more flowery than my wont, but I like it.

Summary:  As spring inevitably follows winter with new life, so to do all endings give birth to new beginnings.

Tingling, burning, giving way to numbness--a sensation like heat but there is no heat here, beneath the suffocating white blanket.  Is this…  What “cold” feels like?  An unfamiliar sensation, burrowing deeper and deeper beneath skin, even as bones groan and ache under untold pressure--as lungs burn for air that does not exist in this dark, smothering tomb.  Exhaustion tugging on body and soul: pulling the two apart, here at the end of Power, at the end of Strength.

At the end of Life.

A burning surge from within, as lungs fight for breath that can no longer come.  Power exhausted, all given to save others, the frozen world no longer his to command--and yet, in spite of this, he can feel more sleeping deep within his soul as water below the frozen surface.  He tries to crack that barrier, to plunge himself into the icy depths and in so doing learn to breathe the freezing waters.

He feels the cracks in his soul, resounding as the breaking surface of a frozen lake echoes in the stillness before plunging the unwary to their fate.

And he feels his heart stop, no longer able to push blood through frozen veins without the energy taken from air.

The barrier shatters, and he drowns within himself.

Silence reigns beneath the mountainside, uncountable tons of snow and ice creating an impassable barrier no sound can cross--and there is no sound within, no beating heart no ragged drawing of breath.  There is silence and stillness, frozen as the world above in the heart of winter.

And like the deepest part of winter, life still lies beneath snow and ice, beneath frost and chill.  It sleeps deeply, unstirring, awaiting the proper time to awaken once more.

Time holds no meaning in the frosty tomb, power trickling in slowly--welling up from the soul in fitful spatters and spurts.  Not enough to restore life to ice-locked limbs, to melt frozen blood so it might flow once more, to give the chest strength to rise against the weight of a mountainside crushing down upon it.

But enough to bind soul to cooled flesh, and to begin to meld body and ice into one.

It sheaths flesh in crystalline scales, lengthens nails to glittering needles, transforms the spine into a forest of jagged frozen spears.  It reshapes the encasing smothering womb around it, presses it outward and forces space where none was.

Above the snow shifts, stirred from below as power and form alike swell, forcing the immovable weight to yield by sheer will alone.

Silence but for the hissing and crunching of snow sliding against snow, compacting as it’s forced aside until a muzzle pushes into the air, drawing hungry breaths like a coldsea dweller surfacing from the hunt.

And the meat of this hunt is plain for all to witness, in the draconic form shaking frosty residue from scales the glittering blue of ice, and eyes the glistening teal of thick frozen glaciers turn to the full moon bathing the world in chill light.

As snow may be compacted under its weight into glacial ice, so now has mortal form been crushed and transformed: a god thawed from frozen flesh to claim his place as the Will of Ice, manifest.

Do the areas swap or are they the same like Underswap?

Well I don't know. In Underswap areas don't swap at all so they would likely be the same in Flipflopped but alot of things would be different due to the swaps, like new Puzzles in Snowdin, The Ruins being more Fabulous with pretty light and lanterns everywhere with the Ruins being darker I think, etc.

But some interations of Underswap use the old TS! Underswap areas.

Like Ruined Home, Sunnedout, Crystal Springs, and Coldsea (Which is so damn catchy by the way).

But I think for Flipflopped I might reuse the areas from my failure Underswap take, Pigster's Underswap, where it goes for the same theme but new seasons. For those who aren't aware of Pigster's Underswap and the areas. They go like this.

Ruins (Fall) -> The Catacombs or Hapstablook's Amusement Park of Wows and Wonders (Summer) (Yes Hapstablook turned the Ruins into an amusement park, I am not kidding.)

Snowdin (Winter) -> Fallout Woods and Fallout Town(Fall. Duh.)

Waterfall (Spring) -> Dry Ice Express (Winter) which was basically Ice Cap from Sonic 3 and TS! Underswap's old Coldsea but it's in an Ice Cave but it also had a high speed moving train section where Chara would fight Alphys on top of the Train.

Hotland (Summer) -> Pollen Plain + Spooky Sprint (Spring) which was like the Mushroom Areas from Kirby's Epic Yarn and Mushroom Hill Zone from Sonic & Knuckles. And Spooky Sprint was basically this tag team race thing that was Pacifist Route only where Chara would team up with Papyrus and go through a spooky mansion that turned Undertale in a Horror game.

So basically those were the areas in Pigster's Underswap but that was a failed Underswap take so I guys I could probably reuse them for Flipflopped but that's only if Underswap used the old TS! Underswap Areas. They would be pretty interesting if they were used here, but of course I would have to change some things to fit Flipflopped like Spooky Sprint not existing since "Napstabolt" isn't a thing here and Fallout Woods and Pollen Plains would be changed to be less generic looking.

I'd be down to bring them back if people wanted them to, but for now, I think altered versions of Undertale's areas is what we should go for, atleast for right now. :)
