Scorpio energy here - either one of you may have Scorpio in 6th, a stellium the 6th or perhaps you’re Pluto dominant. It’s a significant planet here. Your love for one another on a day-to-day basis will shine through in the way you handle the adversities thrown your way, how you wake up each day with excitement and gratitude for what’s to come. It may have been difficult for the two of you to finally come together, but I see two people waking up with extreme gratitude for getting to be with one another. Your daily life will have a lot of happy, positive elements. A lot of Leo and Libra here. You’ll make one another laugh a lot, cheer each other up. This person may be or may have been your best friend. I see an element of “inner child” here, a lot of dancing, giggling and nurturing one another. In your daily life, your person may help you stand your ground and you’ll be each other’s biggest cheerleader. Compliments and cheeky ways of flirting are ways where you’ll keep the flame alive, fighting together for a better future as well - you’ll stand up for one another a lot. If someone treats you poorly, like say, you’re walking by and you get catcalled or someone disrespects you at a grocery shop line, your person will say something. You’ll also naturally take on this role as well, because you’ll want to spoil one another a lot and fight to keep your love “young”. Perhaps family members or loved ones will be opposed to this relationship and the both of you will feel the need to prove everyone wrong, to show that you’re each other’s person and it’s the final say.

You may travel a lot with one another before having kids or prioritize your relationship’s success and joy above everything else. Your daily life will be busy in the pursuit of better opportunities. I think this person will encourage you to be your most authentic self with them. They’ll make you feel confident and in your power. This pile is giving me “power couple” vibes, like two people who own a business together and work tirelessly to make their dreams come true. It may be hard for you two to distinguish between one person’s dreams vs. the other, since you’ll both have very similar goals that will be aligned in the way you make choices. Your daily life together seems to be one full of really important decisions; you’re both perfectionists - and sometimes you’ll need each other’s push to simply do something instead of striving for perfection. Most of your day-to-day lives will be spent maintaining and looking after your stability, pile four. Regardless of how many times I shuffled, messages about money kept coming out. I think it’s possible you’ll either marry into wealth or become fairly wealthy after marriage and I feel like most of your routine will revolve around making healthy financial decisions with your FS. I think the two of you will be very, very protective over your family. Another message I got was about children, I think you’ll have plenty of them. It’s coming on very strongly that you’re possibly having big family - like three to five children, if that resonates for you, of course. I see it as a bit of a chaotic, but pleasant daily life regardless. Even if you’re busy looking after all that you have, I think you’ll aim to leave a good legacy behind and that will show early on in your marriage. You’ll be concerned about making good choices not only for the now, but for the future as well. You’re both very smart, witty people. I feel like you may also have a joint bank account, or some other way of holding each other accountable and looking after your material gains. I don’t see any “controlling” behavior here, but more so two people who are enthusiastic about how far they’ve come and how far they can go.

You’re both super hard workers as well. Honestly, it’s possible you may not spend as much time with them as you want to, but I think even when you’re away for a few hours, running errands or working, you’ll miss them. It’s got a feeling of two people who have never fallen out of love. I think you’ll be smitten with them for a very, very long time. I think you’ll also become an example of a healthy couple for your children as well. I’m sorry children are coming up so strongly (lol), but the energy of being busy, loving parents here is very obvious to me. You might become overwhelmed or overburdened by responsibilities at times, because I see here two people who sort of thrive in chaotic or busy environments and at times, you may have to delegate tasks or ask other family members for help. I think either one of you has always dreamt of building a big family and now that you have it, you want to do everything in your power to protect it, to cherish it. One or both of you is a natural provider and wants to give your loved ones all the best things in the world.

📚 Small Intro To Polytheism📚

One of the most frequent asks I receive is how and where to get started when it comes to polytheism. This is a fairly broad subject and I’ll try to be as general as I can for advice but I will include specific references for Norse polytheists as that’s my shit. This information can be used to help you find a pantheon or to help you pick deities to work with it. If you’d like to use it to pick a patron deity that’s super, if you want to worship 20 gods and not have a patron deity that’s cool too. You do you dude. Please keep in mind this is all reflective of my research and personal practice. 🌻

Picking A Pantheon/Deity

This really boils down to personal preference. You’ll read a lot of posts and books that tell you many different ways and it’s entirely up to you because it is your practice. That being said, there’s a couple of different ways to go about it.

Research! This is one of my favorite ways to delve in. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with reading the stories of multiple pantheons and picking on that calls to you. You can also talk to other devotees and see what they have to say about deities and their religions. It is important to keep in mind that some religions are closed so please do proper research!

For example, I wasn’t originally a Norse pagan. I read some stories and thought the Hellenic pantheon would best suit me. I reached out to Eros for a while but after feeling no real connection to the pantheon I continued my research! After reading up on the Norse pantheon I decided to reach out to them out. Obviously, I fucking loved it because here I am. Point being, you can pick a pantheon based on research and not some divine message or whatever. You are also more than welcome to try out a religion, decide it doesn’t suit you, and move on.

Divination! You can use runes, a pendulum, tarot, etc.This can go a few different ways. You can write pantheon/deity names on separate pieces of paper, mix them up, and place them face down then ask the pendulum to pick. You can assign a deity/pantheon to each suit of cards or major arcana card or even do the same thing with runes.

For example, this is how I found a devotion to Frigg and Hel. I asked if there were any deities who were interested in working with me and pulled the runes Hagalaz and Berkana which read as Hel and Frigg to me. I followed up with tarot cards and pulled Death(Hel) plus the Queen of Pentacles(Frigg).

Asking/waiting for a sign. This isn’t something I’ve personally done so I don’t have much to say on the subject. You can go about meditating, praying, doing a ritual, or whatever and essentially wait for a sign after. It can come via a dream, something you experience, symbols you see in your daily life, it’s pretty much up to your intuition to decipher it. If anyone has information they’d like me to add in here please let me know!

If there’s a god you’re curious about and don’t want to do any of the above it’s totally cool to just reach out and ask if they want to work with you.

Idk How To Research

Same, tbh my keyword search game is weak. Anyways, good portion of us are looking up dead religions with little reliable resources. To give those curious about the Norse an easy head start here’s a compiled list of books by yours truly(click me!!) . It’s important to take everything with a grain a salt of salt when doing research. In my experience a lot of the retold Norse sagas have been Christianized or written under heavy Wiccan influences. It’s a good idea to do research on the author before reading one of their books.

Other blogs! There are tons of great witches and pagans on tumblr that have information waiting for you. 💗 You can search their blog/tags for good references for books, websites, podcasts, etc. Plus lots of blogs are open to answer asks. If you don’t know where to start for searching it’s best to try things based around your interest like: “norse polytheist”, “hellenic witch”, “gaelic polytheism”, etc.

Media! How lucky are we that we live in the age of technology? Knowledge is right at our fingertips! There are countless documentaries, podcasts, and audiobooks on youtube full of information for different cultures and religions. I’d personally recommend almost anything by BBC, Myths & Legends, and World Mythology!

Books! I love starting on goodreads to find good books and trust worthy authors. They’ve had almost every book I looked up with bunches of different reviews so you can get varying perspectives. Check out your local library as well! A lot of city libraries have online databases now of all of their books so you can “check it out” online and read the PDF(personal fave).

Feeling Lost Still?

That’s completely reasonable and your feelings are more than valid. It can be overwhelming and lot of information to soak up. Just do your best and take it at your own pace, there’s no rush to find a deity or pantheon. 💞 Below are a few other general concerns I hear a lot that I was hoping to address.

“I’m leaving a monotheistic(Christian, Catholic, Jewish, etc) religion and it’s giving me anxiety.” This is entirely common and almost expected in my opinion. I was raised Roman Catholic and my first year to two looking into polytheism riddled me with anxiety. I was constantly concerned that god would smite me down or I’d face an eternity in hell for worshiping false gods. While I can’t speak for everyone that fear was entirely erased for me when I found my gods. I’ve never felt so safe and strong and hopefully with time you can find the same in your gods!

It’s okay to want to learn more or to seek something more. I can’t tell you how to handle your anxiety but please know you’re not alone in that fear. There’s whole communities out there willing to support you and help you find your safe space(including me)!

“What’s UPG?” You’ll see a lot of posts, mine included, that mention UPG - UPG is Unverified Personal Gnosis. This is essentially someone’s personal thoughts and beliefs about a deity. For example, I associate Sif with hazelnuts. There’s nothing in the lore or any book that says that she likes hazelnuts; that’s just a personal opinion(aka a UPG).

“How do I reach out to the gods?” I have a lot of information on my blog about this topic although a lot of it is Norse specific. You can check out my beginner polytheist tag here and my beginner norse post/ask here.

Altar! This is my go to typically. Altars aren’t limited to the cookie cutter image that comes to mind(no hate though I have a few); one thing you can make a side blog dedicated to your pantheon/deity, make a small one in a tin can, or even make one in a video game like Minecraft or some shit. You can be as creative or as to the book as you want. It’s up to you.

Prayer! You can totally just sit down and be like, “Hey man wanna work on some shit together?”. While I’m not 100% that all gods would be down with you being that casual it’s still something you can try.😂 You can reach out to them by sitting down in a quiet space and meditating into prayer, praying in the car or in the shower, or just pray at the altar you set up if you did. Again, I can not reiterate this enough, it’s your practice, reach out to them as you please.

Do something personal! This is more like devotional work in my opinion. Let’s say you knit and you want to reach out to a creative or domestic deity, you can knit something as a devotional act to them and as a way to reach out. For example I pick up litter in honor of the Vanir and Jörð, or I play Skyrim for Thor and Týr.

Most importantly just be honest and up front with the god that you’re reaching out too. Considering that statement be honest with yourself as well. There’s no point going into a relationship with a god if you can’t be upfront, it’ll end up in nothing but grief.

“Can deities reach out through gods/signs?” They totally can. However, it is up to you and your intuition if a deity has and it’s not likely another witch will decipher that for you. Sounds, experiences, images, all have different meanings to each of us - they may show you something that’s very personal to you but would be mundane to someone else. Trust your instincts. However, please remember that not everything is magical, sometimes a raven is just a raven and not Odin.

Astrology

Cafe Astrology - does your birth chart and it’s presented in a really cute way imo. It also gives you info about each placement and you can check compatibility and stuff too

Co—Star - I downloaded is the other day, it gives you quick daily horoscopes, do’s and dont’s for the day, and a longer breakdown of the horoscope

Dream work

Little Book of Dreams - I got this at a local store but you can get it for £4. It’s really cute and small, with just little summaries for what common dreams mean. It’s very simple but good for beginners in dream work

Deity worship (These are specific to Hellenism. You don’t have to worship Greek deities to be a witch but it’s what I have resources on because it’s what I follow)

Wikipedia - no seriously. It has info on so many different deities and their mythology so it’s actually quite useful.

r/Hellenism - a good place to ask questions if you’re new to deity worship and get some SPG on less common deities. Be sure to fact check

Amino - there’s a couple of Greek mythology and Hellenist communities on here. Like with Reddit, fact check!

Theoi.com - so much basic info on various deities, and it’s got epithets and things too that Wikipedia doesn’t have.

Tarot

Nata Soul Taro - probably the best pick a pile tarot readers I’ve found on YouTube. she also has a website and does personal readings. The videos are very calming and often really accurate

Zodianz - gives you three tarot cards and their meanings. Includes whether they’re yes or no, zodiac signs, planets and elements that correspond with each card, keywords for the card and then a short paragraph about the meaning. It also gives the meaning of the numbers in the card (like in 8 cups it tells you about 8)

If anyone knows any websites where you can learn tarot meanings let me know and I’ll add them to this list

Spell work

The Works - if you’re British, The Works has a lot of trinket boxes that you can keep spell ingredients in, and some potion bottles which are meant for crafts but they’re perfect for spell jars

Witchipedia - has some basic info about spells and some simple ones that you can do without needing many tools. Perfect for broom closeted witches, beginners or witches who can’t afford fancy stuff.

@strangesigils has some posts on common sigil methods, or, you can use some of their existing sigils!

Shadow work

Pinterest - I’m not kidding Pinterest has some great shadow work prompts if you just type in shadow work. Some are meh and some are really good

Co—Star - as well as astrology this also has a section where you can write a message to yourself and it’ll pop up the next time the stars are in the same position as they were when you wrote it

Crystal work

Holly’s Hope Beads - handmade crystal jewellery! My mum knows the girl who owns it and I’ve gotten a few pieces here. Really pretty and good quality

Regency Career Pack Part I: Uni Careers

Finally, I’m ready to release my first career pack. This has been an ongoing project for many months and is part of a collab by the Historical Sims discord. I’ve done a fair bit of the actual writing and have permission to upload the careers so here goes.

You may have seen some of these careers before. I’ll leave those versions up but they have some typos/errors that have been fixed here, and this is a career pack so the pay scale and some of the “lore” I included is consistent across all of them. I tried to make the pay realistic and challenging as appropriate for the era. Mostly the lower levels start out between $15-95 simoleans, the middle levels are $150-400 simoleans, and the higher levels cap out at about $750-900 simoleans. There are some outliers like the Pauper career (to be released) the Politics career (also to be released, and the idea is that only wealthy landowning males run for office so the pay reflects that) and the Courtier career which is based off of the royal titles in the Victorian Challenge by @victoriansimmer and uses the pay outlined in the challenge rules. Generally the writing style is a bit “goofy” and maxis match. I don’t know how to change the icons or LTW text so I’m sorry, that won’t match the defaults. They’re meant for the regency era but I tried to make the careers flexible enough to fit in the Victorian era as well if needed.

This pack includes the uni careers. I’ll be releasing my careers by ep in a zip file. Everything will be clearly labeled in case you only want certain careers replaced.

Credits to @victoriansimmer of course for her victorian challenge, lovely personality, and the Historical Sims discord where this collab took place, @simbury for resources, knowledge, helpful ideas for the Natural Science and Paranormal defaults which were really hard for me to come up with, and just generally being the high queen of everything and anything regency related. Credit also to @kidinthenight who I’m pretty sure started the whole idea of this career pack and made some of the original files as well as a document that I used, @morgaine2005 who made a lot of the original medieval career replacements and inspired many of my ideas, aysarth who allowed us to use a lot of their ideas and custom regency careers (I don’t know if they have a tumblr. Let me know if they do and I’ll tag them.)

TLDR these replace the four uni careers, they have a consistent style and payscale and a bunch of amazing people helped to create them.

So, some more info about the replacements:

Paranormal: The replacement is very similar to the original career, with tweaked pay and some levels moved around. Your sim starts off as a “Weirdo,” then works their way up to reading tarot, hypnotizing sims, performing phantasmagoria shows, and eventually leading a cult. Custom chance cards to fit the era.

Show Business: Replaced with a courtier career. Your sim starts off as a “Hanger On” who is a guest of an established courtier, then they advance to “Court Diamond” and work their way up the titles listed in the Victorian Sims challenge, with the daily pay indicated in the document as well. Skill and friend requirements are the same as the maxis ones, so pretty steep. I think making friends and working on charm, beauty, and accomplishments is a realistic way to move up the court ladder, and the challenge document doesn’t specify how sims are supposed to move up to the higher titles so I just let my sims progress in the career normally (wants based.) The hours are pretty short, your sims just go to court for a couple hours to socialize and attend garden parties. Custom chance cards to fit the era and theme, with your sim having to interact with other courtiers and behave themselves at parties.

Artist: Just a more era appropriate artist career, similar to my previously released one with fixed typos and pay scale.

Natural Science: Replaced with a Botany career, where your sim starts out working on a farm shoveling dung and caring for plants, moves on to freelance botany work before getting work at a university and potentially eventually becoming the royal landscaper. Custom chance cards included featuring your sim working in a cowplant lab, sculpting splendiferous hedges for nobles, and conducting experiments.

My Witchcraft Journey

When I was first learning about witchcraft at the age of 10 I thought that Wicca and having a coven was everything!

I unfortunately had no real guidance or mentors so I had dropped studying until I was 18. Even then I was on and off studying it and wasn’t taught a lot of basic practices because I didn’t know where to start. It wasn’t until I was in my early 20’s did it finally click and I tried to learn about spirituality more as I realised that Wicca wasn’t the right path for me.

I still believed that I needed a mentor to guide me and then life kept getting in my way so once again, I dropped my study. At 24 I managed to finally get more serious about my studies. I started learning shadow work and doing prompts, I was reading more, and I managed to heal my inner child through this! 💕

When I was almost 25 I had both of my hips and knees collapse on me. This was what the universe had been warning me would happen when I kept pulling The Tower, The Hanged Man, and pretty much every other card card which means “stop and rest!”. 🌙

A couple of months later my partner got me a new tarot deck for our 5th anniversary. I had been wanting a new deck because I could never connect with the deck I had completely. Through this I was able to fully immerse myself into my studies and into healing. 🌸

I had stopped caring about finding a mentor, about having a group to work with, and just focused on myself and my path. I was healing because I wanted to become my authentic self. It was then I realised that the solitary path was right for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I love doing group meditation nights and working with others! I just don’t need that all of the time and I appreciate the times I do get to be in a group setting. I have made some amazing friends who are also spiritually inclined, and I managed to inspire my partner to finally start his own path into Occultism! 🥰

I find that the solitary path isn’t that lonely for me. I love having my own practice that’s special to me, and I love sharing my stories and experiences with those who understand witchcraft!

Fast forward to 2024 and my hips and knees are starting to get better through physiotherapy, I’ve become a lot more confident in my practice, and I’ve started to become a person that I love being. 🥰

A year and a half later and here I am! Things have gotten a little easier but of course, I still slip up sometimes. I’ve been studying my path consistently, I can see the improvement with my skills and confidence, and I was able to start this blog!

I still struggle sometimes but I keep trying and keep restarting when I realise I slipped up. ✨

I collect tarot decks because I love the artwork, and I’ve been using a couple different decks for different readings with friends. The Hierophant has come up a LOT for two different people. I’m wondering if there’s a way to interpret that card beyond structure and conformity?

I've often interpreted the hierophant as such:

"You cant expect to get better at something by not doing it."

This is a reference to structure, routine, ritual. If there's an area that the querent wants to improve, they have to practice or they will never make progress.

Making things into a habit or a routine might be difficult to start, but making (x thing) into part of daily life can make the hurdle of 'improving your skills' seem smaller. And then when you're ready you can push yourself further.

pulling tarot cards for a month: what i learned 🔮

hello friends, tonight’s post is about a little project i started last month. i have used tarot for a couple of years, on-and-off, and i still feel like a total beginner, so i decided to pull a card each day for a month. i was hoping to both make tarot a habit and part of my daily practices, and kickstart a learning curve for myself. i wanted to share my thoughts and some insights i found particularly poignant or interesting, so read on if you’d like 💜

mostly, i just did a simple one-card pull at the start or end of the day, examined the card to figure out the meaning and then did some research to see how close i was, and what i missed. although this approach is helpful for starting to read intuitively, based off of the imagery of the cards themselves, it often felt quite rudderless and unstructured, and i found myself struggling to really put the cards into context within my day and life. looking back on the month, i can however see some themes that pop up repeatedly.

i got a lot of cups and pentacles, which really make sense for me as my focuses in life right now are very earth and water; i’m starting university and making plans to relocate and work on my career, while also reflecting a lot in counselling sessions and trying to heal my wounds and looking deeply into my religious and spiritual beliefs. i got mostly twos, fours and nines, which again, make sense to me; two indicating connection and duality, four representing stability and security; nine, reflection and culmination. i got the hanged man a few times, showing that i feel at a crossroads right now. i got the lovers and the devil a few times, honing in on the internal struggle of patience, and of doing the right thing. it's too personal to share here but once, i got a really specific and poignant card on a really difficult day, and then another, much lighter, card showed up later on that evening.

i noticed that when i had a specific question or issue in mind, i got a much clearer answer. it’s hard to say whether that’s bias on my part, because right now i’m still at the age of learning tarot where i don’t speak the language yet, so to speak. i don’t have that intuitive understanding yet, so i think i need something specific to anchor myself to when reading the cards. for example, when i asked the question, “is X worth the wait?”, i got the lovers - pretty clear in my opinion. a while later, an opportunity came up that would mean moving away from what i’m waiting for, and i asked again, “should i wait?”. i got the hanged man, 2 of swords, and the devil. again, i feel i got a very clear answer, and this time with more context (natural when i pull more cards, i suppose) and it seemed like a harsher response too, like it was sick of hearing the same question lol.

on the 30th, i did a spread for the full moon. i used this spread by @hermitsmirror as it really appealed to me, as a native pisces moon with big dreams and little direction in life right now. i was pretty surprised with my results, as i got almost all cups, as well as the hermit, and a couple of clarification cards for one of the questions. i am a little confused about one of the questions on the spread, or rather, the answers i got, but everything else i can see and make sense of. i found it a really insightful spread that got me reflecting and making some connections. i’m planning on consulting with my best friend and very talented tarot reader, @neptuneandwine to help me understand the parts that confused me though :-)

all in all, i found this experience really insightful and reading through my notes from the month has definitely inspired me to take this further, and make tarot a bigger part of my life and daily practice. it’s been interesting to look at divination from a different angle, and to start putting together the meanings of the cards to analyse my daily pulls. i’m looking forward to seeing where tarot takes me and how i can integrate it with my astrology practice too! i'm hoping that, with more practice, i can feel confident using more spreads and asking more questions.

how i approach a reading / the cards

do you feel overwhelmed when pulling cards?

are you a beginner and need a guide to get started?

read this to see how i personally do this and you might find something useful out of it!

thank you if you support! this took a lot of work so it means so much :)

for the most part this is just an educational guide but it’s also made for you to follow along with your cards to see a visual as you read. if you want to skip the info and just try an analysis with me , skip to - “SO YOU PULL ONE CARD - NOW WHAT???”

also : pinterest is a great way to find cheat sheets!

INCLUDES:

- using imagery + facial expressions and body language

- using colors

- using the suits/court + numbers (sometimes)

- using placement (in the spread)

- major and minor arcana differences + how to approach them separately

- using reversals

FIRST THINGS FIRST

get a deck with good imagery - rider waite preferably. pls do not get a deck made with a “pretty” look to it. these are nice for when you become accustomed to the cards and more intuitively aware.

for example, heres a deck I have that i would NOT use as a beginner. (not my pic)

2ND THING - SUPER IMPORTANT

Divination and spirituality are individual practices. No 2 people will do them the same or practice them the same. This is why its so important that you find what works for you and how your intuition works. For example, if someone is clairaudient (hears messages), that doesn't mean you will be. You could be clairvoyant (sees visions/pictures).

SPREADS - YES OR NO?

You may hear about celtic crosses and other big spreads, but for now I say keep it to 3 cards or less. Once you become more accustomed to the meanings, 5 should be okay. This is because you hardly know what they mean, why try to send your brain into overload? Lets honestly keep it to 1 or 2 when your first trying to wrap around how tarot works !

REVERSALS - YAY OR NAY?

As a beginner, I say no to reversals. I don't have a vendetta against reversals lol, you simply are already trying to learn 78 cards, doing 156 is really hard. plus, reversals usually aren't as easy as people think. later, if you find that they work for you and you like them pls use them!

MAJOR VS MINOR ARCANA

arcana = secrets —— major secrets and minor secrets

major are big things / occurrences , they overpower the minor arcana in the reading

minor are smaller, daily life things.

important things to realize/look into:

major:

- 0-21

- study the fools journey

- major will be harder to go off of imagery so i suggest reading my post before trying to analyze any major cards.

minor:

- contains 4 suits (wands, pentacles, cups, swords)

- each suit contains 4 court cards (page, knight, queen, king)

- easier to read off of imagery so i suggest going through each one with my suggestions below

THE 4 SUITS

it’s important to realize that each suit represents a different thing(s). once you learn each one, reading will become a lot easier. (especially court cards)

THE COURT CARDS

now that yk the suits, let’s tie them into the court cards.

the court cards can be confusing bc of a couple things: they can be seen as people in a reading, they can be yourself, they can be timing, they can be a quality of someone, etc… SO MANY THINGS. So study this cheat sheet below and see how they relate to each other!

NUMBERS MAY SOMETIMES BE OF IMPORTANCE

now i don't usually use the numbers in my analysis. yes, they are INSANELY important, but i have an understanding of the cards. I would suggest using a cheat sheet and memorizing it because a few of the numbers i actually find important. Aces, 5, tens. Aces are usually gifts/offers. I've found that about all the 5s are usually negative. Tens are big endings/beginnings in different forms. 10 of coins and cups are positive, while 10 of swords and wands are a bit more negative. Again, depends on how you take them in a reading.

ZODIAC SIGNS IN TAROT

there are 12 zodiac signs. in tarot, each zodiac sign has 1 major arcana card assigned to it. You can use these as recognizing people in a spread OR timing by using the dates in the zodiac. Keep in mind that just because the moon = pisces does not mean that that is the only meaning to the moon - just a helpful addition.

TIMING

tarot can also give insight on timing. Of course major arcana with a zodiac assigned might be easiest, but minor arcana can do just as well. Find a method that works for you, do you see wands as the fastest (days) and pentacles as the slowest (months/years)? or is it opposite? now that you have that in mind, use the number. for example - 5 of wands. 5 days. --- 6 of cups. 6 months. Really it depends on your meanings of timing so assign them and stick to it!

IMAGERY

so now that yk the basics let’s look at how the imagery reflects meaning of the card.

FIRST THING- this is why i preach having multiple decks if possible. this is bc the cards look different so, you use your intuition to grab the deck with the imagery you need for that card - the other decks imagery might not reflect the message they want to get across!

lets use these main questions / prompts when beginning to analyze a reading :

how many people are in this card?

what are they doing?

what are they looking at?

how are they standing/sitting? on what? or where?

what is the background?

what are they holding?

where are they looking? (different from what, i promise)

WHAT IS THEIR FACIAL EXPRESSION?

so it’s a lot yes, but it’s so important and you will do it without realizing as you go.

let’s use this card for my example: (9 of swords)

let’s take notice of the main things we see : we see one man, he is in a bed with 9 swords above him.

by this- we can assume - he was sleeping and woke up from a nightmare or a night terror. we see that he is holding his face in agony or despair.

now this doesn’t literally mean a nightmare, he could be having anxiety or stress about something - the 9 swords could be pressuring him or are “heavy” on his mind. overall, the coloring in the card is dark and gloomy.

THE REASON I SAY WHERE INSTEAD OF WHAT ARE THEY LOOKING AT

this is only used by me when i have multiple cards in a spread. + when they fall out in their own formation/spread.

i will show an example below.

(this deck is not good for facial expressions, but their body language is useful for this example.) pay attention to the king of wands. he is pointing to another card in the spread - the queen of cups. So, for this example, i will say that the king of wands is a king who strives after what he wants. what does he want? the queen of cups.

That was just a small example out of many. one that i find happens more is an example below.

See how the woman in strength is looking towards the 4 of wands. This could mean like you finding the strength you need to work on making your family/relationship healthier and happier. Many meanings but its all how you interpret it with your intuition.

WHAT WAS THE QUESTION?

one of the biggest things you have to keep in mind when breaking down a card or a spread - is keeping what they are talking about in your head. The same spread will have a different message depending on whether its referring to love or finances. AS WELL as different people. The same cards pulled for me will NOT have the same message as the same cards pulled for my friend. Understand? So always keep the question in mind when breaking the cards down. Cards have so many meanings, don't want to get them mixed up lol.

SO YOU PULL ONE CARD - NOW WHAT???

Take into account everything said above.

whats the name of the card? sometimes the names say a lot more than we realize. For example- justice.

immediately recognize the suit and number. Use your knowledge of what these mean.

Now look at the people in the cards. How many people are there?

^^now go into what they are doing, their body language, their facial expression, where is their attention, what are they holding. What energy is this card giving off?

the colors and the background/underlying imagery in the card. Is the card overall dark and gloomy or colorful?

if you have multiple cards in a spread do this for all of them, and slowly find connections between the cards to unlock the meaning.

I will do an analysis on this card to give you one final big example

3 of swords*

we first notice this is swords and we know swords represent truth, clarity, communication, thoughts, etc...

there are no people in this card, but one heart. this heart is bright red, really the only color in this card. behind it are gloomy clouds pouring rain. 3 swords stabbing into the heart.

now lets use our knowledge on the connection between hearts and cups. and cups represent love, emotions, feelings, etc...

this card just reeks heartbreak. its like someone said something (swords - communication) and it was like swords stabbing into your heart and youre just heartbroken. the clouds are rolling in and youre sad and feel like it can't get any worse than this.

I am a witch. I have always been a witch. I've put in effort to have a book of knowledge at my disposal for when a spell or added oomph is needed. But my practice has fallen to the side because I cannot keep a routine to save my life.

My tarot cards call me out when I look to them for guidance. My pendulums take a while to warm back up to me or refuse to give me any response regardless of what I do or how I frame the question. My crystals could use a cleansing - hell, I'm sure my plants would love to keep some safe while also getting an added oomph.

My beliefs have changed - yet still remain in the Pagan umbrella - as life around me has changed. Things that weren't as important to me before had to take more precedence. While things feel somewhat stagnant, life is moving quickly.

Some things have never changed:

I have always viewed myself as a witch. I wholeheartedly believe that I am a witch. I have spent years practicing and forging my way. I've read so many books and I keep a collection of notes, as if I am back in high school, so that I may pass the books onto someone else who needs them. Everything I need is at my fingertips.

I continue to do the little things. Added kick to my morning coffee to keep my energies going; steeping my favorite tea with the intentions of helping me feel a certain way; and I'm probably going to carry some stones on me today to promote physical health because my right knee has been really bothering me for the past couple of days...; using intentions and correspondences when choosing ingredients for certain recipes to enhance both flavor of the dish and our daily lives. I could go on.

I have felt the affects of burnout in most aspects of life: work, emotions, mental, body. My craft is a "craft". I have my "manuals" for when I need to look back on them. But sometimes my main focus will be on survival of this wicked and wonderful world we live in.

Always coming back to it is the key.

I am a witch. I have always been a witch. I will always be a witch.

I attempted to order a couple of shirts and tarot card packs from Welcome to Night Vale because yes, I’ve gotten back on that bullshit again - I’m back up to 2016 and listening to it on my walks to work, which functions about as well as a cup of coffee to wake me up, let me tell you.

In hindsight, I should have known that box would be cursed. It’s Night Vale.

If you enjoy long tumbles down several flights of stairs, read on.

It started innocently enough. I ordered and remembered during checkout that oh yeah. I’m going to Spokane at the end of the month. And I’m in Canada. There’s a good chance it’ll be a little slow to get here and the arrival time might be while I’m away. Okee doke. Work address it is. DHL eCommerce usually turns into Canada Post and Canada Post does a daily delivery to our front door, where my whole department is located. If it looks like it’ll happen during my vacation, I’ll just tell my co-workers to watch for it. Easy pease.

Time passes. My box clambers across the US to the border.

Hurdle Number One: You owe duty fees! announces my tracking app. Check your email to pay. :D This is in the morning on my way to work, less than a week out from my trip.

I do. No email. I check junk, I refresh, I squint at time stamps. I scour their page for links. I think “Don’t they usually either send a letter after delivery or just demand cash at the door?” But this has all the indications that I have to pay now or it’ll be sent back. Exception. Held for payment. I am stupid and obsess over this while walking to work, listening to Night Vale with half an ear and having to rewind Cecil because my brain is occupied. I nearly get run over by a bicycle and it’s coincidentally ridden by a co-worker. He comments that I look especially unhinged today. He’s right. I keep plugging away trying to solve the labyrinthine maze that is DHL’s customer service department.

My tracking number doesn’t work in any of the Help Me boxes. The chat bot doesn’t know what a duty fee is. It finally barfs out a phone number. That’ll work. I pray it’s not a robot on the other end and continue to work.

While waiting for the kettle to heat up on my break I take a quick spin outside with my phone to call customer service.

To my briefly pleasant surprise, the wait on hold is less than five minutes and it is, in fact, a pleasant human voice on the other end. The conversation is quick “Didn’t get the email.” “Junk mail?” “Nope, nothing.” “You can wait until it’s delivered by Canada Post and pay then.” “This really looks like it’s being held, though…” “It should still go through but otherwise I have an email for you.” “You can’t like… transfer me?” “No. Just email and they’ll resend the instructions.”

Labyrinthine!

An ambulance blares by. I wince. I also have no pen. Uh. Speaker phone, apologies for the traffic noises, and frantic tapping into my Notes app while cursing autocorrect. The email is cryptic and long but I get it written down. Thanks, g’bye.

For the record, once I sent the email, things went smoothly. It worked. They resent the email, I paid the whopping $12, and then my tracking updated to say it would continue on to me. Whew. Good. I await the Canada Post tracking number.

Hurdle Number Two: This is where the package started mutating, I’m sure. A Canada Post tracking number appears!

…. and then an Intelcom tracking number appears.

And then my DHL original tracking number duplicates itself saying it’s being sent back to the states? But the original one is still on its way to me… How did my box become at least three boxes?

I blink a few times and just… track them all to see what’s going to happen.

At this point I’ve got to leave for Spokane so I just ask my co-workers to keep an eye out and I leave it up to the fates.

Canada Post never budged. Nothing happened. The duplicate DHL package did move, and eventually returned all the way back to the sender. I don’t know what that was to this day. The Intelcom package identified itself as coming my way with a little email and a link to add delivery instructions and so I thought “You. You are the real one. Found you.” I know Intelcom delivers on weekends and I don’t want to inconvenience anyone and this has started to get to where I don’t want to leave any details up to chance, and so in every instruction box I can find, I note that it’s a business address, give the hours, and the times we’re open. Please deliver to reception. On weekdays. Please.

I once again give it up to the fates and enjoy my weekend.

Hurdle Number Four: Intelcom is Jared, age 19, who never learned how to read. On Sunday morning, the final day of Mysterium, on what is a long weekend in Canada because of Canada Day on the 1st, I get a happy little email.

Package delivered!

….

How.

I open the email. I scroll down. There’s a photo. Of my box.

On the lawn.

Outside an obvious office, smack dab in the middle of a three day weekend, beside a street that harbours half the city’s traffic.

A safe location, they say.

A safe location.

The same way that a toddler on the train tracks is in a safe location. Certainly!

And I am in another country.

I make a noise that startled all thee cats in our friend’s house.

My co-workers are heroes. I thankfully have my supervisor’s cell number and she actually checks her phone, unlike me. She knew about the box. I send her the photo and just “Those absolute MAD LADS. Heeeeeeelp!”

By sheer luck another co-worker was not out of town on that glorious warm weekend and was able to swing by and rescue my box.

I enjoy the last day of the convention with a slight eye twitch.

Finally … I get home. I go back to work. I retrieve my hard earned box. Finally! I don’t open it at work. I carry it home. Whatever. It’s in my hands now and I’m going to enjoy opening it. I go the long way to meet my boyfriend at his work and then we go back to our abode.

We talk about the box adventure. We laugh about it. We both decide that Friday would be a good day to wear our new shirts. It’s going to be great.

At home we plunk it down. Tim gets a knife. He opens it.

He blinks.

What?

Um, he says.

Oh no.

And I look over his shoulder…. and I don’t see shirts. Or cards. I see…

Sleep masks. Sleep masks in fancy plastic boxes all neatly tucked together. They’ve got a sea creature on ‘em.

My box has mutated into someone’s fuckin’ Manta Sleep order. My box has escaped. My box has fled and framed an innocent bystander for its crimes. We got the wrong man, boys!

And I swear I can just about hear Cecil narrating this whole thing if I listen really, really hard.

It’s a three part tragedy. One of the shirts I wanted is out of print now. I contacted support and they offered me my pick of any others in its place, which was nice. Thank you Lucid John, that is quite a name. I paid customs fees and probably will again on box two, but such is the way.

And I think I lost a part of my soul there. Maybe that’s what was in the mystery third tracking number.

Basically if anyone in the world finds where the fuck my Night Vale shit went, could you send it home? I’ll trade you some sleep masks.

They’ve got a sea creature on ‘em.

And be careful when ordering from Night Vale.
