dick: the First one. you can dress it up as whatever as him being a minority him being a marysue wunderkind him having eldest daughter syndrome whatever whatever idc his value is inherent in being the first one. he’s my favorite but he’s the first and that’s what he brings to the table. literally every part of his character is just the idea of the The First One amplified. they could write him out of the dc story they could ! but it’s not his flexibility as a person/character that keeps him relevant it’s because he sets the tone always. everyone else gets to be different because he set the standard first and it’s BECAUSE he came first that he’s written like this.

jason: the Dead one. stephanie’s dead too, you say. god i wish DC would acknowledge that, i reply. death arcs are sexy and cool and put everyone else in the wrong because dying and coming back makes you the ultimate object of pity. unfortunately dc found jason so boring that somehow even with a death arc as his only personality trait his run was so boring without other characters they had to shut him down at 50 issues

tim: the Boring one. this post was actually motivated by seeing a post that tried to make tim interesting and i would just like to say: stop. there is nothing fundamentally unique or likable about him. name one thing tim has going for him i’m begging you…smarts? dick is smarter*. skills? damian’s been training since birth**. strength? jason is 6 2”. humor? stephanie literally slapped batman. initiative? duke started a robin collective WITHOUT walking up to a dude and saying “hey remember when ur parents died ! sucked for me tbh” PLEASE. “oh but he’s the relatable one :(((!” i hate to break it to you but if you relate to tim you’re probably just as boring and no one’s told you yet. consider this your wakeup call. now try to imagine a world without him. you can’t because DC won’t stop putting him in things. it’s killing me

stephanie: the Girl one. white and blonde and the target of every horrific Women As A Cautionary Tale storyline in the batman universe ever. because she already has MAJOR diversity points for being female in the robin costume, the writers and the fandom decided to ransack her character for things to beef up tim’s disgustingly sparse resume with. this has left behind a Girl Best Friend Doll in purple with a drawstring in her back to let her say unfunny one-liners and the words “We Can Do It!” © Rosie the Riveter

Duke: the New one. technically not even robin to begin with, thank GOD because while it would be sweet to see a younger duke maybe have been a robin it would have come at the expense of his family, AND ON THAT NOTE in fanon it constantly does??? the guy is Batfamily but he has his own cast (and that’s how you create a HeroProtagonist in the dcverse) and he was established as an outside individual a la Kate or Dick (90s). try and respect that

spike and buffy are the LEAST CASUAL PEOPLE ALIVE. it does not matter what they do or say, these fuckers constantly have to be as emotionally charged as possible. their first (actual) kiss is literally set up as the most cinematically theatrical romance. the curtains close on a kiss. buffy has such severe guilt/internal debate over her relationship with him because she knows it's not just sex, it's not just physical. we all know they're shadows of each other, destined and doomed, yadda yadda yadda, but more importantly they know it!! as soon as spike admits he's in love with her he does nothing to dissuade the idea. also the doublemeat palace episode. him fully saying he would support her and it hitting her so hard she tears up. she knows. she knows he would and she knows what it would mean to accept. i don't even remember the point of this post i'm just feeling crazy about them. spike who she trusts with dawn (an externalised manifestation of the purest part of her) and spike who trusts her with his soul. what about anything these two do is casual. buffy grins after sex in s6e13 (that whole post sex scene is so important to me they're so insane). and anyway the most important trait about buffy is that she's a liar and she will lie about how she feels at all times to satisfy the moral compass she presumes everyone around her wants her to adhere to. also tara and buffy's friendship is really important to me. i swear that's relevant. okay bye

kanej in the books is intoxicating to begin with but kanej in the show no matter how rushed it was on inej’s end (which i am actually very upset about, but i think i would’ve been next level horrified if they showed even the public menagerie scenes on the show) is so delicious on another level because. because because they had to rush it which means kaz is more empathetic from the jump (second season) which is makes it all the more sympathetic. with soc you spend most of it being like augh this kaz dude! what a jerk! even though he’s traumatized the audience still very justifiably doesn’t HAVE to love him. but freddy carters kaz is just a lot softer to begin with and like constant care that he has for her even before she realizes he has feelings for her is next level insane. just like…in a world where you always have to look out for number one…he still looks out for her all the damn time. it’s like insane. it makes him a much more sympathetic figure than book kaz which is in its own way delightful because we get to see inej make her own choices and kaz try in his own to way to make sure she gets to make those choices…just delicious

can we please talk about how important Rowan’s trauma is to not only the book series in general, but also his character and his relationship with Aelin? Like he is actually a very sentimental man. He is so traumatized by what happened to his family that we have this person who wants to remember all the good moments with her, with his friends. Yes, his trauma hardened him, and he cut himself off from those people because of his pain, but once he and Aelin realized through each other that they could enjoy life beyond the pain they once experienced, we see how much he values the people in his life. Like he is wise, and caring, and has so much infinite love that he never got to share with the people he lost. Yes, he would literally do anything for Aelin, but he also loves his friends, he cares about the world, and Aelin heightens that for him. Aelin brought him back to life just as much as he did for her. Because he got to see himself as a friend again, a person who can make a difference in the world. He has so much compassion, and I literally cannot stop thinking about how much he gained after Aelin made him see how the world could be. He saw himself as a good man again. I am so emotional about Rowan Whitethorn I can’t. Ok rant over I just love him.

i love dawn and willows relationship like- so much. So honestly one of the things i spend most time thinking about is like times theyve bonded in the fake memories.

you want examples? well, i will provide:

the first time they met. willow is over at buffys house for the first time. she has no clue buffy has a sister cause buffys embarrassed. dawn has heard all about willow cause buffy thinks willow is fucking awsome. dawn pretty instanly very much agrees. Willow eats dinner at the summers, the whole family is bickering and apologises for it but willow being used to quiet and cold or just lonley dinners adores it.

Halloween in s2. Joyce is out of town (like in canon) and buffy sure as hell doesnt want to take dawn. and joyce doesnt want her with a stranger so willow offers to take her with the rest of her kids. Dawn who hasnt hit her growth spurt can wear the same costume as last year(a witch) and stays herself the whole night. When willow leaves the group to talk to giles she puts dawn in charge to make sure no one gets themselves or anyone else killed, her included. cause with slayer princess, shooty xander and cordelia, shes the most reliable and she knows dawn can be responsible if it calls for it, sometimes. Dawn loves willow more than ever and when its all over she quietly admits she was terrified and willow says she did wonderfully.

the end of s2. dawn is staying over at the hospital while willow is in her coma (and that way misses buffy and joyces fight). Shes as terrified as the rest. shes there when willow does her first spell, she thinks its so much cooler than being a slayer.

between season 2 and 3. joyce is depressed and spending alomst all her time looking for buffy. willow is guilty cause she thinks she failed the soul spell, and therefore caused buffy running away. she comes over with cookies and realises dawn is kinda being neglected, so she offers to babysit. Joyce appreciates it a lot. willow thinks its nice too, takes her mind of her guilt and this way she can get out of her empty house and almost pretend she has a family.(she does, the scoobies, dawn and joyce included, but like yk what i mean, normal family)

gingerbread. MOO never tried to kill dawn but they stopped her from interfering and kept her close saying stuff like "were doing this for you, the children". She doesnt talk to her mom to at least a week and when she bumps into Sheila in the street she spits on her.
