So one of the most interesting (and well known) things about behind the scenes on King of The Hill is the do's and don'ts manual put together for the animators. Outside of providing a good basis for the designs of the characters, you can also see a lot of the personalities that would develop as the series went on (especially in Hank's don'ts). These are really interesting and there are a lot more in both the article linked and around the internet, so be sure to check them out if you haven't. I'm still trying to learn more about these so if anyone has any extra info lmk! (Also I am a massive fan of dog-Hank in the bottom right corner)

Something that's always good to remember is that any art advice you see that tells you to never do this (the old "yes/no" format template) is usually good advice BUT not universal advice. Artists are giving you a solid toolbox for achieiving the art style and genre they are working in. That advice isn't always tranferrable to what you're doing! Examples: "Avoid tangents, they flatten your image". Often comes from people who work with very rendered, volumetric stuff. Maybe you want your art to look flat? "Always maintain a clear silhouette" is common advice for animation. But a clear, readable silhouette is more important for moving images that you only have a few seconds to read. Maybe you are doing a delicate painting of something people have ages to look at and read. "Use a lot of diagonals and angles to make your composition super dynamic" Maybe you want that, maybe you want to create stuff that feels balanced and calm (I love my flat, calm compositions) Anyway, all of this to say: When you encounter art advice out there and it presents itself as universal, try to remember who is giving it and whether or not they're doing what you want to do.

I do take requests!!! However I can't say I will reply immediately cuz I forget things easily and I might want to write other stuff at that moment in time, but I will try to get around it.

I don't post regularly (sry).
