Bruce Wayne is evasive on a good day and downright invisible on a bad one.
So when you see him down the hallway from his office, attempting to escape without being caught, you nearly trip on your feet trying to catch him.
"Mr. Wayne!"
His shoulders rise with tension. You pity the guy, you really do. Being a gazillionaire is tough.
"Mr. Wayne! Mr. Wayne, Sharon has been hounding me about the charity dinner. Please, if you could just go to this one dinner... you haven't been to an event all month."
And you're getting the brunt of it from all of WE's clients.
Bruce turns, his smile looking more like a grimace. "Hn. Hello. A dinner? I was sure I had a shareholder meeting that day—"
"All month? B, what happened to the two event minimum? That's your rule."
The new voice comes from behind you. Dick Grayson walks down the hallway, wearing jeans that probably cost as much as your monthly rent.
"Mr. Grayson," you say, nodding primly. "How are you?"
You shift the files in your hands as they start to slip. Dick is quick to catch them, balancing the stack.
"We've been through this," he says with a smile. "You know you can call me Dick."
Yes, you've been through this. Every time Dick shows up to Wayne Enterprises, he tells you to call him by his first name. And every time after that, you call him Mr. Grayson.
"Right..." you say, taking back the files. You turn to Bruce. "Mr. Wayne, if you would just consider the dinner..."
Dick gives Bruce a severe look. "B, this is ridiculous. You're such a stickler for rules and yet—"
"Oh, look at the time." Bruce scoots past you and Dick. "I've got that meeting with Lucius. Where does the day go? Please tell Sharon I'll get back to her."
You can't understand how a guy whose biggest exertion is made by playing tennis at the country club can slip through your fingers so fast. He's around the corner before you can blink. You sigh.
"Don't worry," Dick says. "I'll get him to go. And I'll get one of my siblings to tag along to make sure he doesn't duck out early."
You smile briefly. "I'd appreciate that, Mr. Grayson."
"Dick. So!" He trails behind you as you make your way back to your office. "Do you have any plans for tonight?"
"Working."
"O-kay..." Dick jogs ahead to hold the door open for you. You push through, trying not to frown. "What about tomorrow night?"
You toss your scarf on the hook. It ends up on the floor. You ignore it.
"Still working."
"How 'bout I ask B to give you the day off then?"
Now it's your turn to give a severe look. "If you're implying that I'd be obligated to go out with you in return for a day off, you've completely misjudged my character, Mr. Grayson."
"Whoa, okay." He holds up his hands. "You're right, that didn't come out right. How about I get him to give you a day off, no strings attached?"
You dump your files and sit at your desk. "That's at your discretion."
"Hey." Dick leans on your desk, puppy eyes at full power. "Maybe we've gotten off on the wrong foot. Did I do something that put you off? I'd like you to tell me if I have. I hope the fact that I'm Bruce's son isn't stopping you from being honest."
You put down your pen and look at him. "Look. You seem like a nice guy, and you're handsome with a rich dad to boot. But I'm just not available, okay? You're looking for someone to go to Tahiti with. I respect that. But I'm not that person. I'm just not interested in that."
"You think I'm handsome?"
You sigh and open your laptop.
"Right! Sorry. Not the point." Dick sinks into a crouch next to you. He pulls the oddest poses sometimes, like he's made of rubber bands. "Okay. You're not looking for a trip to Tahiti. Got it. I don't take many vacations anyway. So how about having a friend?"
"And why would you want to be my friend? I'm just some assistant."
"Well, I..." Dick scratches his neck. "I like you. Is that so hard to believe?"
Very. But okay. You can throw him a bone.
"I guess not," you say.
Dick frowns. "You don't believe me."
How does he do that?
"Can I please get back to work?" you ask, only a little worried about being rude. "I'm sorry, I'm just very busy."
His face falls briefly before he stands and nods.
"Of course. No problem. I'll see you around? And I'll get B to go to that dinner."
"Thank you."
You don't notice his lingering looks, or the fact that he picks up your scarf and places it on the hook on his way out.
****
3...17...64.
The safe clicks. You smirk. Easy peasy. The hotshots always use their own birthdays for combinations. Predictable. You bet Bruce Wayne does the same.
It's a blessing that you were able to duck out early today. Bruce gave you the rest of the afternoon off. You suspect that was due to some outside meddling.
You take out the files from D.A. Colson's safe. You always say that if crooked district attorneys don't want their documents stolen, they shouldn't put them where anybody can find them.
...Maybe you were too harsh with Dick. He's sweet, no doubt. It was nice of him to get you off early. But you kind of feel like he'd take issue with the fact that you spend your weeknights breaking and entering.
"You know, cracking safes is already Catwoman's shtick," a voice says behind you. "You might wanna find a new gimmick."
A thrill shoots through you. You toss your head as you turn, leaning against the open safe.
"Catwoman steals diamonds." You hold up the documents. "I just steal files."
"Files from the district attorney," Nightwing says, crossing his arms.
"The dirty district attorney," you correct.
"I'm supposed to let you off on a technicality?" He sounds amused.
Your shrug one shoulder, a little coy. "You could. I hear you're the nice one."
He laughs. Nightwing has a pretty smile. It's the first thing you'd noticed about him.
"Oh, yeah? Anything else you've heard?"
"Plenty. But I'm in a bit of a hurry tonight, Wing. As much as I enjoy our little chats..."
You dart to the window. Nightwing easily blocks your exit.
You're not quite sure what overtakes you when you run into Nightwing. Ignoring the fact that he manages to be the one to chase you almost every time (and what a chase it is), there's a tension between you. Or maybe it's just one-sided on your part. It certainly doesn't help that he's got a nice smile and bouncy hair.
"You know I can't let you go," he says, hands on his hips. "Put it down."
And he's extremely good at what he does.
"Make me," you say.
He never uses his escrima sticks, which you know is a courtesy to you. But that doesn't mean you can't hold your own.
"Alright," Nightwing says, smirking slightly.
He takes three steps, blocks your immediate kick, and takes the documents.
Something swoops in your belly. You kind of get why Catwoman exclusively fights Batman. Once you go bat, you never go back.
"Got them," he says cheerily. "Now what?"
You throw a glass bird tchotchke at him from Colson's desk. He catches it with his free hand, but it's enough of a distraction for you to slide into his legs. Nightwing stumbles less than you would like, but you push him down against the desk.
He grunts as he hits the wood, then rolls you over in the next breath, hands catching your wrists.
"Stealing... makes you no better... than Colson," he says, hair falling over his mask. All of him is pretty, really. It's too bad he's so firmly on the blind side of justice.
"If these documents are released, Colson will win his case and bury his own crimes in the process. Is that what you want? Another crook in court?" you ask.
Nightwing frowns. "You know that's not fair. We can't toss a case for the sake of putting Colson behind bars. And if we pick and choose whose lives to play with, what gives us the right to carry out justice?"
"I dunno, Wing," you say, a little breathless. Nightwing's hips are politely shifted off of yours, chest to yours. "Seeing you go rogue would be kind of exciting."
You can tell he's glaring at you. "Not in your dreams."
"Been in my dreams, have you?"
You gain enough leverage to push Nightwing off of you. He's back on you immediately, trapping you against the wall.
"How is doing something like this not crooked?" he asks.
You scoff. "It's for charity. I'm donating residents to the county jail."
You twist in Nightwing's hold and land a kick. In the three seconds he's distracted, you grab the documents. No sooner do you do that does Nightwing tackle you. The documents slip out of your hand.
"I can do this all night," he says, knee wedged between your legs. "Might as well yield."
"Yield? You're not even playing at your full strength, hotshot."
He smiles. "No, I'm playing nice."
You roll your eyes. "Well, play fair."
And then you jump out of the window.
Your tuck and roll isn't the worst but it's not the best. Especially when Nightwing neatly lands a few feet away without a wince.
"Showoff," you say.
"Give me the documents," he says. "I want to put Colson away, too. But this isn't how to do it. He's still a civilian, and his client's life matters."
You get up and wobble on a loose brick on the edge. Stupid historical buildings.
You're desperate. If he keeps this up, you're bound to land yourself a night in the police station and lose the documents.
So you dust yourself off. And you stop. Right at the edge of the roof.
"Okay," you say.
Nightwing takes a careful step forward. "Okay?"
You toss the documents to him. He catches them in surprise.
"You're surrendering?" he asks.
You shrug. "Like you said: you can do this all night. And I guess there are better ways to catch Colson. More permanent ways."
He tilts his head. "You're not gonna kill him, are you?"
"No! Jesus, man. Ye of little faith."
"I'm just trying to understand why you surrendered."
You sigh. "Because you always win anyway. You're a better fighter than me. And I'm cornered. I just feel like cutting my losses early. You're a lot more convincing than Batman."
"Is that so?"
"Oh, yeah. I much prefer you chasing me."
"Uh-huh." He nods towards the building. "Come on, then."
"Okay, sure."
You take a step. And you fall.
The brick is loose under your foot. It doesn't take much for you to keep going.
Panic surges through you, but that only solidifies your acting.
"Wing!" you cry, toppling over the edge.
"Shit!"
Nightwing lunges and grabs you by your waist, then uses momentum to haul you both to safety. His cheek against yours for a moment, body pressed to yours. It really is a damn shame he's such a Boy Scout.
You knock him in the stomach and snatch the documents, then separate from his grip. You watch his face contort in realization as you land and bolt.
"That wasn't playing nice or fair!" he yells, landing on the opposite side.
You're already gone, laughter echoing.

Are You The One? - Two
A/N: Little installment for this, all mistakes are mine--thanks! Edit: excuse my poor attempt at tagging people. It might be a tumblr thing or very, very much a me thing.
Pairings: Wanda Maximoff x Reader
Warnings: Alcohol, cursing, Jerk!Vision lol
----------------
Your side of the bed is empty when Wanda wakes up.
Wanda sits up with a groan, rubbing at her burning eyes. She can hear the sounds of silverware clanking against dishes and conversations about "how drunk was I last night?" coming from the common areas. Wanda throws her hair into a messy bun before padding out to find you sitting next to an empty chair. You smile at her like she's the sun peeking out after a long stretch of gloom.
"Good morning," you greet her softly, pouring her a glass of water, "everyone just woke up, figured you wanted to rest a little longer."
"You were...you were going to wake me?," she asks, gingerly taking the glass.
"In about...20 minutes, yes," you turn off the timer you set on your watch while Wanda tries to process why you would even bother to do something like that for her. She gives you a tight-lipped smile before leaving to pour herself a cup of coffee.
The view from behind the carafe keeps Wanda entertained while her coffee brews. Eyes bouncing around the table, cautious touches, smiles finally reaching eyes, and scattered lips to ears -- there's a different air about the house after last night. The clock is almost through ticking and aside from the prize fund, people are determined to find their match.
"How was last night?" Steve snaps a finger in your direction with a mischievous grin. You roll your eyes.
"We talked a lot, I think we're on the same page about trying this out for the ceremony."
"For what it's worth," Sharon cuts in, leaning over Steve who just puts a meaty arm around her shoulders, "I think you two would be a cute couple. Plus, you can't argue with a genius like Shuri."
You hum in agreement, "thank you," you lean back and take a sip from your glass. You glance at Carol, she greets you with a wink that can wake the moon up at this point. You feel your cheeks radiate enough heat to fry eggs.
"I don't see it," Steve interrupts with a mouthful of food.
"You don't?"
"No, I mean-the chemistry is there for sure, but Carol can have chemistry with a toaster if she really wanted to," Steve rips into his other piece of toast, "personally, I have trouble seeing it between you and Wanda, but love is complicated, plus, I'm not going to argue with Shuri's logic."
Steve continues eating, ignoring the way your head tilts and your face does the perfect impression of a question mark. Wanda misses it too as she sits back down. Her eyes don't travel far around the room after almost catching Vision's pitiful look he's been wearing since last night.
"Game day!" Tony pops the top off a bottle of beer and cracks it over the mouth of Scott's beer, making an impromptu volcano. Tony only chugs half the beer before slamming it down to head outside, where the camera crew is waiting.
That's right, it's another game day. Wanda twists the fork in her hand idly above her food while everyone else begins to file out of the house.
"Hey," you watch Wanda's eyes soften a bit when they meet yours, "you ready for this?"
----------------
Wanda was in fact, not ready for this.
Her hands ball into stiff fists, sitting at her sides as she watches you pick Carol's pickup line over hers. Wanda doesn't miss the twitch in your jaw the moment Carol stepped forward, maybe you were hoping for a date with Wanda too?
Wanda's eyes are locked onto the flight path of Carol's hands on your body when she feels someone nudge her side, "Val picked you," Maria whispers.
Shit.
Wanda makes sure she's smiling big enough for the cameras to see as she walks over to Valkyrie. She doesn't spare a glance at you as Val throws an arm over her shoulder to pull her in.
----------------
Despite everything that's happened in the past 24 hours, the boat ride is a little fun, if only a little.
"So," Val drawls, "talk to me about y/n."
"We don't have to, I'm on this date with you," Wanda drums her fingers against the side of her champagne glass that's been full since she first boarded. Val gives Wanda a gentle smile and leans forward.
"For what it's worth, I think you and y/n make a cute pair. Something is there, I'm sorry you weren't able to chip away at it on a date today."
Wanda's head tilts as she chews on her lip for a moment, "thank you," she says, "we have a little bit of time, we talked for a while last night."
"Trying to feel for a connection within a week is probably not ideal, given you spent so much time with Vision up until now."
Wanda's shoulders begin to droop, she puts a little more space between her and Val, "I feel awful for only listening to my heart," she says to the floor of the boat.
"I mean, Vision didn't really give you a moment to breathe, let alone think. This might be the most we've spoken since we got here," Val flashes a crooked smile before taking a sip from her glass. Wanda lifts her head, eyebrows furrowed.
"Is that what everyone in the house thinks too?"
"Some more than others, we just got worried about the both of you never finding your match--and costing us the prize fund, but still," Wanda shakes her head with a giggle while Val refills her glass.
"You think Shuri is right?"
"I think Shuri is more tuned in to everything going on in the house than the lot of us," Val leans back against the seat, her limbs sailing across the leather of the seat into a more comfortable position.
"I spent too much time trying to play the field instead of fostering any type of connection," Val takes another sip, throwing her head back with a groan. Wanda cracks a small smile when she remembers the foursome facilitated by Val and Carol within the first week of being here. She remembers watching everyone eavesdropping by the door while she tried to listen to Vision's monologue about the many lives he's lived before now.
"Who did Shuri say your match was?"
"Carol," Val barks out a laugh.
"I can see that."
"What?" Val picks her head up, "we're both recovering playboys, that seems like a recipe for disaster."
"I think it will lead to change more than anything. Neither of you wants to keep doing the same things forever. You might even share a deep understanding of your ways because you're so similar," Wanda shrugs, finally taking a sip of her champagne.
Val hums with a cheeky smile on her face. She keeps Wanda under a watchful eye while she sips from her glass, "you know you're pretty wise when you look around for longer than a few seconds."
That gets a playful scoff from Wanda, there's no point in defending her behavior, "I wish it would have happened sooner, maybe we wouldn't be racing against the clock."
Val only nods once, "it's a hard game to play," they both share a look at the horizon for a few moments before realizing their date is about to end.
"Tell you what," Val sets her glass down and takes Wanda's too, "tonight, I'll find Carol and bare my soul to her and you try to deepen your connection with y/n, deal?"
The boat is being docked by the time Val finishes her sentence. She's holding her hand out to Wanda. Has she just made a friend? Is this what everyone else has been doing while she was too busy with Vision to care?
Wanda docks her worries and reservations by putting her hand in Val's. They both walk to the house with a new sense of determination, this game isn't over yet.

Work for it (S.R)
pairing: steve rogers x reader, billy russo x reader
warning: angst, steve is still an ass but he's working on it! they also have a civil conversation for once
summary: the aftermath of the party, some closure and decison making.
word count: 1.5k
a/n: omg hey guys, been a while huh? *nervous chuckle* DONT HATE ME I'M SORRY I LOST MOTIVATION BUT I'M BACK NOW!
part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5
tag list: @blackhawkfanatic, @buckys-wintersoldier, @witchychanel, @nicoline1998enilocin, @vicmc624
Seeing Steve with Sharon playing happy families had been a slap in the face to put it kindly. Although you knew that Steve had brought her to invoke jealousy, it had also highlighted just how right you were to be suspicious of how much of a priority he made her.
You knew Tony and Bucky felt bad for letting them stay, and even though you had forgiven then, a part of you also felt guilty for feeling like some part of that night was partially their fault. Peter had been attached to your hip after the party, a little brother in every sense of the word, warding off any advances from men and just talking your ear off about his chem final he had last week.
You had indulged him for the most part, he was the only person you knew realistically that you’d be able to handle for such an extended amount of time. Most of the other avengers would play nice for the most part but most, if not nearly all felt a sense of protectiveness over you after your decision to end your relationship with Steve and there was only so much coddling one person could handle.
You were tuning the party out as you excused yourself from Peter, letting him know you were just going to get a refill and would be right back. The happy nod you received in return was enough to let a little bit of a drunk giggle leave your lips. As you reach the bar, you order another cocktail and as you gaze over the party, you see a lot of people you’ve never met but you know are influential, it comes to you that as much as this party was for you, it was also just a typical Tony Stark party.
You loved Tony but he often overdid most celebrations he was left in charge of, you would’ve been happy with a small cake and a movie night, but nonetheless, nobody would ever complain about a party this extravagant being thrown for them. As you receive your drink from the bartender you feel someone sit in the seat next to you, and before you turn your head you already recognise the figure. Bucky.
“Hey Buck” you greet softly as you turn in your seat to face him, he turns to you with an apologetic smile, “Hey Y/N/N.” he opens his  mouth to start off his apology but before he can speak, your hand is out and halting it. “Don’t Buck, honestly you’re not responsible for what Steve does and I’d really appreciate if you could stop taking it out on yourself whenever he does something idiotic, he’s a grown man Barnes” you state and you watch as his brows furrow before he nods, “Barnes?” he questions with a chuckle. “You’ve been demoted” you pout fakely as you smack a kiss on his cheek before trying to find Peter among the crowd of people.
You find him talking to a prestigious Harvard professor you had met once at a charity gala, you leave him be and attempt to find someone else you recognise but the sheer amount of people in the complex starts to overwhelm you and before you realise it, you’re making your way to the elevator to the roof so you can get some air.
The elevator ride is silent which gives you some time to reorganise your thoughts, as the steel doors open you make out a male figure looking at the skyline of the city. You pause and hesitate if you want to disturb them, in your inebriated state you can’t make out exactly who the person in but before you can call out and ask them if it’s okay to join them, they turn around you are met with the face of one guilty looking Steve Rogers.
You sigh and turn to leave but Steve’s voice breaks the cold night air, “Wait- Y/N please don’t go!” he yells, and you stop but don’t turn around. You hear his hurried footsteps to where you’re standing and in fear he’ll try to touch you, you turn around and hold your hand out to stop him. He looks sad but stays put, “I’ll talk to you if you don’t come any closer to me Steve and believe me if I see you even twitch your hand closer to mine, I’ll be gone, and you’ll never see me again” you threaten before making your way to the wall he stood looking out beforehand.
He sighs and nervously stands about a meter from where you’re standing, you two stand in silence for a couple seconds before you break it “Why did you bring her.” “I’m sorry”. You both look at one another in shock before you snort drunkenly and motion for him to continue. “I’m sorry, I was just jealous you were leaving me- us, for Anvil and when I found out you were going to be working for Billy Russo, I couldn’t think straight, all I could think about was you moving on and leaving me behind and that’s not how this is supposed to end Y/N, we’re not supposed to end.” He rushes out and you listen intently before snorting again.
“You know Steve, it’s so funny when you hear the one person you used to beg to hear you, verbalise the same insecurities you had when the two of you were together.” You say with a small giggle and you watch as Steve’s expressions morphs into confusion and then pain. The alcohol in your system has effectively rendered your filter useless so you start again. “You can be as jealous as you want Steve, but  what we’re not going to do is tell me how I should move on with my life, you’re the one that fucked all of this up, not me.” You tell him and he nods emphatically before sighing again.
“I know honey, I know. I fucked up real bad but I’m here asking if there’s even a single shred of hope that we can fix this, I’m going to do it. I will spend the rest of my life fixing this, I will run myself into the ground trying to mend every wound and insecurity I have ever caused you, I need to know if you see a future with us, because if you do, honey I’ll never hurt you like that ever again” he says as his eyes plead with you believe him.
“Those all sounds like empty promises right now Steve, do you know how many times you’ve promised to me that you’d prioritise me when we were together? How many times you told me you’d stop running after Sharon? How’d you Put. Me. First.” You emphasise and watch as guilt overcomes his features. He’s about to start talking again before the sound of the heavy metal door opening to the roof scrapes against the floor to open.
It's almost comical how your heart drops and then flutters at the sight of Billy Russo. You see Steve’s body stiffen at the sight of the playboy worthy smile on Billy’s lips. You smile back at him and as you move to walk over to him, Steve stops you. “Hey, I thought we were still busy talking?” he asks with jealousy and anxiety in his tone. He can’t watch you walk away with Billy; you need to stay here. You’re safe here with him, who knows what Billy will do with you. You can’t leave him again; he has to make you stay.
Before you can even make out an answer, Billy’s close enough to speak. “Hey! Tony let me know he was throwing you a party and you know I had to come a celebrate my  new assistant. He let me know he saw you coming up here, I can leave if you want some privacy” he says with a smile as he nods at Steve before focusing his attention on you. You smile at him with one of the biggest and brightest smiles he’s seen you wear since before your breakup. He wants to roll his eyes at Bily’s obvious  flirting, but his jealousy takes a backseat at the anxiety he feels because his charm seems to be working on you.
“Yeah, actually we’re a bit busy!” he calls out to the both of you but all you do is turn to glare at him as you turn to Billy and shake your head before placing your hand on his suit jacket. Steve clenches his jaw at the sight whilst glaring at your hand like it’s committing a criminal offense. You turn to Steve, and he quickly fixes a small smile on his face. “I think I’m going to head back to the party with Billy. I’ll see you around Steve.” You say and although Steve feels his heart drop in his chest, he nods with a small smile as he watches the two of you walk away, already conversing animatedly.
“Hey!” he calls out at the last minute and winces as you turn around with a look of annoyance, “What, Rogers?” you ask and winces at the use of his last name, thin ice. “You never gave me an answer! Do you still have hope?” he calls out with a hopeful look and watches as your jaw twitches but the slight movement from your lips indicate your amusement. “You’ve got work to do, Rogers” is all you call out as Billy holds the door open for you to let you go back. Like the prick he is, Billy just smiles and nods at Steve as he leaves.

Wԋαƚ Iϝ Iƚ’ʂ Uʂ?
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x GN!Reader
Summary: After an incident involving the Quantum Realm brings forth the Zombie Apocalypse, you are forced to comprise a team of survivors to reach Wakanda, the only human sanctuary left. But is the apocalypse really a great time to develop feelings for a Super Soldier?
Warnings: Themes of death, hurt/comfort, angst. Side/main character death?? (Not Bucky or Reader) Fire, violence. Let me know if I need to tag anything else!
Note: This very loosely follows the relative idea of the What If..? episode. Thank you to @buckylattes for sending me this idea!
---------------------------------------------
“This is day forty-nine since the apocalypse started. And Bucky and I may be the last survivors in the United States.”
-------------
The sound of the leaves crunching under your feet filled the warm and crisp air as you trudged through the forest. Occasionally, a gentle breeze would blow through the air, which felt quite nice in comparison to the autumn warmth.
"So..Steve and Tony got in some kind of fight?" Bruce stuttered out, breaking the silence.
"Yep." You confirmed.
"And..the Avengers broke up? Like One Direction?"
"Yep."
“And then got back together?”
“Uh-huh.”
"And there are zombies now?"
"Seems like it." You sighed.
“And the Avengers are zombies, too?”
“Dr. Banner.” Okoye chided.
“Sorry, sorry. It’s just—y’know, it’s—“
“Weird?” Peter Parker guessed, smiling softly. “Yeah. We know.”
You frowned at the kid’s statement. You, Bucky, and Peter were the only Avengers on Earth to not be affected. Or at least, to your knowledge.
“Go find the kid. We’re..we’re gonna need all the help we can get.” Tony had mumbled to you. Steve nodded, pursing his lips.
“I’ll call Kate and Yelena,” Clint said, looking at Natasha. Wanda grasped Vision’s hand, looking up at him anxiously.
“Anyone know how to get in touch with Thor?” Steve looked up from his feet, arms crossed.
“That’s a negative, Captain Rogers.” Vision’s voice was smooth and neutral. “Mr. Odinson does not have a communication device to contact us.”
You gave Bucky’s right shoulder a friendly and comforting squeeze before you walked out of the room. You knew Peter’s address, you’d visited his apartment before with Tony.
Before you knew it, Earth was basically gone. That was over a month ago. You’d quickly found fellow survivors and made somewhat of a team with them. Peter, Bucky, Okoye, some guy named Kurt, Sharon Carter, you, and John Walker. And now, Bruce Banner.
“We need to find a base,” Bucky said, just loud enough to be heard.
“Sergeant Barnes is correct.” Okoye agreed. “Nightfall is approaching.”
“Pete, where’s that camera thingy you recorded your video on?” You asked, looking back at him. He’d made a little movie on how to survive the apocalypse soon after you’d saved him from the hoard of zombies outside of his apartment. It was a cute video, though the circumstances weren’t exactly great, or even good. It would’ve made a good school project, though.
Part of it was about hygiene, and Bucky starred in that section, albeit unwillingly. Bucky hadn’t said anything, but you could see the discomfort on his face when Peter showed you all the finished product. Bucky had been in the shower, rotated in a way where you luckily couldn’t see anything. He’d been ambushed by Peter and Kurt, the latter being lifted off the ground by his own neck, which had Bucky’s metal fingers wrapped around it. In private, Bucky had hinted that he was uncomfortable with the clip, and you’d gone to talk to Peter about it without saying anything.
You’d explained to him that ambushing anybody, but especially a Super Soldier—particularly a traumatized one who also happened to be a veteran—in the shower was not cool. Peter had apologized profusely, going back and removing the clip. You’d asked him not to say anything to Bucky, knowing that Bucky wouldn’t have wanted attention to be brought to it.
You could tell by the way Bucky’s eyes flicked to you when Peter showed the clip to Bruce that he’d noticed.
“Oh—uh—here.” He said, pulling the small camera from a pocket before tossing it to you. You caught it with ease. The apocalypse was no place for a lack of hand-eye coordination. You tucked it in the front pocket of your backpack.
“Won’t that thing run out of battery?” Bruce questioned, and you chuckled. “No. Peter and Stark made it a while back. It runs on an extremely tiny arc reactor. I’ve been keeping logs of every day—sometimes twice a day—since two days after the apocalypse started. So..yeah.” Sometimes others would make them, but none were as detailed or formal as yours.
“Jesus Christ," Bruce mumbled out. "Oh. I just realized--I haven't properly met most of you. I'm Bruce." He stuttered, picking at his fingernails.
"John Walker, Captain America." The annoying blonde spoke up. You were surprised he hadn't already shoved that fact down Bruce's throat yet. Normally, he wouldn't shut his mouth.
"I'm sorry--what?" Bruce looked at you, brows furrowed, wanting to see if you were agreeing or not.
"Turns out the government really doesn't like their favorite child going against 117 countries. So they gave the title--and a non-vibranium dupe of the shield--to this asshole." You explained, rolling your eyes.
"Right.." Bruce processed. John looked like he was going to say something, before Bucky shot him a glare, silencing him.
"I'm Sharon Carter. Former SHIELD agent." Sharon introduced herself, and Bruce smiled at her. Peter, Okoye, Kurt, and even Bucky introduced themselves, but you mainly focused on choosing where to go.
For some reason, you ended up being the 'leader' of the group. Maybe it was because you found everybody, maybe it was because you were the one who'd been an official Avenger the longest.
"Where are we going?" Bruce questioned. He'd followed you and the rest of the group into the woods.
"Well, the end goal is Wakanda. Right now, we're somewhere in New York. Phones don't work, and we come across maps every so often. Unfortunately, it's not like people posted map-selling stands in the middle of forests. Public spaces aren't the best places to be anymore." You spun around to look at everyone, walking backward.
"Wakanda may be the last human sanctuary on Earth." Okoye filled him in. "Our force fields would prevent the..undead from ever reaching our people."
"You sure did pick an odd time to visit the States," Bruce noted.
"I swore an oath. My king disappeared along with the Avengers." She replied.
"Right." Bruce exhaled.
"There should be an old Avengers safehouse up ahead. We stayed there after that one mission in February last year." You nudged Bucky with your shoulder as he caught up to you. He nodded slightly, chewing on his bottom lip.
"You okay?" You lowered your voice, trying to at least make the conversation slightly private. He glanced at you, before giving you the smallest of shrugs.
"Come on, it should only be a little farther." You called over your shoulder, beginning to pick up the pace. The sun was going to set soon, and night was not a time to potentially fight zombies.
You breathed out a sigh of relief when you could finally see the safehouse in the distance. It was a cabin in the middle of the woods, which made it a great place to stay in an apocalypse, at least for a little while.
"There's two bedrooms, two bathrooms." You announced. You put the code into the tiny pad by the door, before stepping inside.
You let out a sigh as you set your backpack on the floor against the couch. Everyone else followed suit, John and Peter sitting on opposite ends of the old couch.
Deciding to raid the pantry and see what you had, you rubbed your hands on your face. You'd risked it and went to a grocery store a few days ago, all of you filling your bags with as many non-perishable food items as you could.
"Okay, there's peanut butter, canned corn, some dried fruit, rice, bottled water, some trail mix packs, and canned..pineapple." You listed off. "And then whatever we're carrying."
"You wanna go through it all?" Sharon asked, and you shrugged. "Not really. I'm fucking exhausted." You held your forehead in your hand, closing your eyes.
"I can do it if you want." She offered, and you nodded. "Okay. Thanks, Sharon. I'm going to shower." You told her, opening your eyes and lifting your head up.
"You should take one of the beds. No offense, but you look like you need it." She smiles slightly, and you groan. "Wow, thanks. And I'll be fine. One of you should take it."
"Y/n, take the damn bed. Share if you want. But you're sleeping in a bed tonight." She decides, and you're too tired to argue with her. You accept your defeat and sigh. "Fine."
"Wonderful. You and Bucky can share that room. Okoye and I will take the other one, and Peter can take the couch. Kurt, Bruce, and Walker will be fine on the carpet." She assured.
“How’s your leg?” She’d injured herself yesterday, falling from the roof of a one-story building.
“Hurts like a bitch, but I’ll be fine. And don’t try and distract me. Go shower.” She smiled at the end. It reminded you of Natasha, in a way. You missed Natasha dearly.
"Okay." You agreed finally, taking out any food you had in your bag before taking it to the bathroom with you. You had a few outfits, just enough for maybe three or four days, and then a pair of shorts and a tank top to sleep in. You could stretch that to a week and a half if you felt clean enough to not wash your clothes.
You showered quickly before getting dressed in your shorts and tank top, walking into a bedroom.
Bucky sat on the bed, messing with his dog tags. His hair was wet.
“How was your shower?” You attempted to strike up a conversation. He shrugged in response, clearly tired.
“Did Sharon finish seeing what food we have?”
“Yeah.” He bit his lip, looking down at his hands. “Do you think he’s alive?”
You nearly asked who ‘he’ was, but after a second you figured it out. “I..don’t know, Bucky. But Steve’s strong. You and I both know that.”
He nodded, but it was clear that he wasn’t convinced. You pulled back the covers of the bed, before laying down.
“C’mere.” You said, the only light in the room was the tiny lamp that barely worked. You made room for him in your arms. Though you and Bucky weren’t anything more than friends, you’d gotten used to sleeping like this. It helped a little, in more ways than one. It helped him with his nightmares, and it helped with your anxiety.
He rested his head against your chest, draping his right arm over you.
The two of you fell asleep like that, comfortable in each other’s embrace.
Until Bucky started mumbling something, waking you up. “What the hell..” You grumbled before you realized what was happening. Right before he started screaming himself awake, you shook him.
His eyes flew open and he gasped, gripping your shoulders tightly. You waited for him to realize that he was safe and that the ‘danger’ was gone. His eyes began to water, though he tried to blink away the tears.
“Hey, hey. It’s okay. You’re safe. Promise.” You reassured him. He let himself calm down, exhaling slowly.
“Good job. Do you..want to talk about it?”
He looked at you, unsure. “Not much to talk about.”
“I’ll always listen. You know that.”
“I wasn’t there for him.” He confessed, eyes watering again. “Steve. I didn’t..I couldn’t..” He reached for his face, wiping at his eyes.
“Bucky, none of that was your fault. None of this is your fault at all. You didn’t start the fucking apocalypse.” You began to rub soothing circles into his back.
“All I had to do was shoot.” He made eye contact with you. Your heart burned at the sight of his pink nose and teary eyes.
You didn’t really know what to say. In theory, you could say the perfect thing that comforts him immediately. But the truth is that whenever you’re actually in a situation like that, all of that stuff goes right out the window.
“Close your eyes. Okay? I know this stuff hurts, but you really do need rest.” Your mind went back to Natasha.
He nodded finally, closing his eyes. You did the same.
It was the smell of burning wood that woke you up.
You blinked yourself awake, eyes stinging from the smoke. You gasped, choking on air as you took in your surroundings. The room was on fire. You shook Bucky awake, and he took a second to register what was happening.
“Shit!” He exclaimed, kicking the blankets off the two of you.
Without thinking, he busted down the bedroom door, revealing the slightly less burning living room. Peter’s face was the first one you saw, and you raced to him. “We have to get out of here!” You screamed over the sound of rooms collapsing.
“There’s hordes of them out there!” He shouted back, clutching your arms.
“The Spider-Child is right!” Okoye called to you as she threw Sharon’s arm over her shoulder, supporting the blonde’s weight.
“Well, would you rather try and get out of here or would you like to burn to death?” John cut in. “I would rather not burn!” Kurt pointed out, and Bruce nodded beside him.
“Okay. Okay. Come on, we’re gonna bust through the side door. Are they surrounding the house?” You began to plan, though you were panicking on the inside.
“I don’t know. I only saw them from the front door.” Sharon wheezed.
“I hate those odds and I don’t think our chances are even decent, but there’s no other option. When I say go, race through that door!” You directed. Checking to make sure everybody was accounted for, you gave yourself a final nod of encouragement. John was able to get Sharon onto his back.
“Go!” You shrieked, making sure that you were the last one to bolt out.
“I see them!” Peter screamed.
“Doesn’t matter! Keep going!” Bucky commanded, but they were only getting closer.
The sound of something crashing against the forest floor made you gasp.
“They can knock trees over?!” Peter kept glancing over his shoulder.
“They are getting a bit close!” Kurt yelled out. You looked over your shoulder, seeing John struggling to run with Sharon on his back. You stopped, and when Bucky began to slow down to see why, you put your hand on his back, guiding him forward. “Go.” You told him, as you went to help John.
“You can’t carry me and I can’t run,” Sharon said darkly. “John, put me down.”
The crowds of zombies chasing you were only catching up.
“Sharon, we’re not leaving you.” Your voice raised in pitch, anxiety settling in.
“Sharon.” John panted. “Come on, we gotta keep going.” He tried to stabilize her, to keep her still against his back, but she managed to break his hold on her.
“Sharon—stop! Stop, Sharon, please!” You begged, your eyes watering up.
“I can’t lose another friend. Come on, don’t be like this.” John grabbed her wrist, but she pulled away.
“Take them all to Wakanda for me, okay?” She asked, giving you a soft smile.
“Sharon!” You cried out as John gripped your wrist, keeping you from chasing after her as she staggered into the horde of undead.
“We could’ve..that—she didn’t have to—“ You gasped, beginning to hyperventilate. “Yeah, I know, but we have to keep going.” John’s hand remained wrapped around your wrist. It felt too tight. It hurt.
“Let go of me.” You said as you sprinted with him.
“There’s only more of them!” Bruce stressed, and you wondered how he didn’t get whiplash from looking around between you all so fast.
“Go right!” Bucky took charge, and everyone obeyed. You kept pace with Bucky, knowing that he was running slower on purpose. The serum enhances his speed, so there was no reason he couldn’t have just bolted and gotten to safety. You admired his loyalty.
Everyone—minus you and Bucky—made it away from the main group of zombies before a large tree fell. It was burning. The only thing that you’d noticed was burning was the house.
“Zombie enhanced. Not good!” Bruce shouted.
“What do we do?” Peter tried to find a solution. You took a deep breath.
“Run!”
“What?” John, Okoye, Bruce, and Kurt all looked back at you and Bucky.
“We’ll find another way! We’ll find you!” Bucky agreed.
Peter shook his head, mouth opened slightly like he was about to protest. You hoped that this didn’t fuck him up too bad. He already had enough trauma.
“Come on!” Okoye filled in the role of ‘leader’. She was a general, after all. She was born for this.
You turned to Bucky, grabbing his arm and trying to find a way around the zombies. “Move! Move! Move!” Your voice went higher in pitch every time you said it. You wove through clusters of them, though you were still in your pajamas.
You ran through the woods, but it was still dark out. The moon was the only thing keeping you from not being able to see anything at all, and you were thankful.
“How fast can they go?” You shrieked as they began to pick up the pace.
“Y/n, go! I’ll hold them off!” Bucky began to slow down.
“What? No!”
“Just go!” He stopped suddenly, and you tumbled to the ground, trying to do the same.
“No! Not without you!” You howled, and he accepted his defeat, racing back towards you and grabbing you as you stood up.
Not without you. I love you.
Bucky and you ran through the dark woods, breathing heavily, palms sweating. You managed to trip over a tree root, pulling Bucky down with you. Just your luck, you managed to trip at the top of a hill, and you rolled down it with Bucky. Dirt and dead leaves crunched under you and scratched at your legs and arms, pine needles getting stuck in your hair and in Bucky’s.
“Fucking hell..” You groaned as you stopped rolling.
“This is not as pleasant as those fall candles said it would be.” Bucky breathed, and you laughed. You’d shown him some fall candles in a store you were raiding, one being Rolling in Leaves.
“Yeah. I agree.” You choked out.
“Come on, we gotta find..” He trailed off.
“They’re long gone, Buck. We’ll..just have to meet them in Wakanda.” You stood, helping him up.
“Don’t ever pull that shit again.” You said after a moment of walking. “What?” Bucky looked at you, not knowing what you were talking about. “That sacrifice bullshit.” You clarified. “Never fucking again.”
“Okay.” He said blankly.
“Promise me.”
“I promise.” He made direct eye contact with you as he said it.
“Good. We should find somewhere to stay for the night. I’m exhausted.”
The two of you walked for maybe an hour more or so before Bucky pointed something out in the distance. “There. Those are caves.”
You looked where he was pointing, and sure enough, they were caves.
Another hour later and you’d been able to sort through the bags and see what you had. Bucky had been smart and saved the bags from the fire.
“Why do you care? About..my life?” He broke the silence.
“Why would I not?” He shrugged in response. “Because you’re one of the only people I have left. And..I care about you, Bucky. A hell of a lot.”
“I care about you too.” He breathed, and it was clear he meant it. His gaze drifted down, towards your lips. He cleared his throat awkwardly, eyes shifting elsewhere.
“Bucky—“
“Kiss me.”
“I—what?”
“I want you..to kiss me.” The former Winter Soldier, one of the few Super Soldiers on the planet, wanted to kiss you. And who were you to say no? You felt the same way.
You leaned it at the same time, your lips against his, both of your hearts beating faster than they ever have before.
The kiss ended when you pressed your forehead to his. Bucky’s fingers tangled with yours, your knees pressed against his.
“If I have to be with anyone in this situation, I’m glad it’s you.” You whispered.
“Me too.”
“Wait a second. Can you check the front pocket of my bag and see if the little camera thing is in there?” You asked him, and he nodded, reaching over to open the front pocket of your backpack. He handed you the small device. Maybe it was weird to end a moment like that with asking for a camera, but you needed to be sure.
“Think it survived the fall?” He questioned.
“Let’s find out. If it does, maybe we can use the parts to make some kind of communication device. Maybe we can contact someone in Wakanda with it.” You pressed record. A small little light came on off the side of the camera, and you grinned. “It works.”
Now that you were recording, you realized that you might as well film your log.
“The safe house burned down. We got split up from the group. Sharon..Sharon’s gone.” You said grimly. “We have no contact with the rest of the group, and no way of knowing if they’re alive or not.” You spoke to the camera, eyes never really staying focused on one thing for more than a minute.
“This is day..forty-nine?” You glanced at Bucky, who was nodding. “Forty-nine. Day forty-nine since the apocalypse started. And Bucky and I may be the last survivors in the United States.”

Search & Find
a/n: Day 2! this is low-key hurt & comfort. but heyy what can I say. This does have a slight A/O/B AU not too much just hints
Tag gang: @mal-urameshi @s0lam33y @shuririweek
Summary: Shuri has been searching high and low for her love.
After the battle, Shuri couldn’t help but be cold to the Riri. She became swamp with her work and leading not leading her nation. Two months of radio silence became a year. As cold as it might seem Shuri could almost forget about Riri.
That was until Shuri was Chigaco. She was in the windy city to help build outreach buildings. That’s when Shuri ever met Sharon. She looked like Riri around her eyes and nose.
“You were the last person that saw my sister,” Her eyes glisten with tears, “You have to help.”
And so the newly-minted queen began her search for her love again. Based on the reports Shuri had received it seems like Riri quickly dropped out of MIT as soon as her foot touched solid land.
Where are you, my love? Shuri thought as she looked back at the map. Red pins were placed are the possibility of where Riri was living. Shuri suited up to try one of the addresses or worse case she would be back to square one. In a cramped apartment, Shuri quietly stalked for the outside watching to see if Riri was in there. To the Queen's shock, she was. Shuri’s chest tightens with hope.
That’s when Shuri heard it, a small but powerful cry. Shuri’s eyes widened as she continued to watch Riri comfort the baby. She could see the tired smile on Riri’s face as she nursed the infant.
“Who’s there?” Riri said. She could feel the weight of another person watching her. Shuri knew her cover was blown. Riri’s eyes widened as she saw Shuri creeping out her window.
“Shuri,” Riri said. Her arms were still cradling the small baby. Shuri looked at the infant.
“Who do they belong to?” Shuri asked. She knew the question. She could smell the mixture of Riri and her scents.
“She’s mine,” Riri commented. Riri still not looking at Shuri. Shuri wanted to yell at her that she wasn’t stupid and she knew that Riri knew the baby was a part of her.
“Be serious,” Shuri uttered. Riri just tightened her hold on the baby. Riri was frightened by the mere thought of her love rejecting their child.
Shuri sighed trying to control her anxious scent causing her omega to second-guess Shuri’s true intonation.
“You were really mad that n-night,” Riri started, “A- and you were dealing so much and I thought… well I thought I wasn’t until I got back and... I was scared and didn’t know to contact you,” Riri took a deep breath. “I would never keep her away from you, please believe that.”
As if that would stop the tears coming down on her face. Shuri felt the sharp pain in her chest, “I would never reject her or you.”
Shuri knew she had to do some red tape for her daughter to be like royalty and have Riri be seen as her spouse. Shuri hummed as she laid her head on top of Riri’s. Shuri’s eyes continued to gaze at her daughter’s features.

would love to hear your thoughts on the team bullying/forgiving jamie in s2, in particular what you disliked about it. imo i think sam’s treatment was harsh but not at all undeserved, while others like colin and isaac were a bit twisted considering they fully participated in the prick-ish behaviour in s1. and the whole led tasso bit was entertaining to watch, but it really reveals how problematic ted’s hands-off approach to conflict can be. to the point where ted refuses to refer jamie (and later on isaac) to speak with sharon, and never fully acknowledge’s each player’s feelings.
There was a really good meta I saw on this topic the other day that i cannot for the life of me find in my tags to link here. But yeah, there are definitely things I disliked about it! For me it's less about the players than about the leadership & Ted. I actually think the players reactions/responses mostly make sense. It's a bit weird, like you said, that EVERYONE suddenly hates him when half the team was literally participating in and/or endorsing him in season 1 (remember that episode where the team is split into two factions and one of them is Jamie's? lol. Like it wasn't even just Isaac and Colin participating in the behavior, it was half the team). However I can see that their opinion of Jamie might have changed given distance and their own growth.
Also, we don't really see any instances of Jamie publicly bashing his old team apart from singling out Ted and Roy, but apparently at one point he was off calling Colin a jaundiced warm to his hometown newspaper, so yeah I can see why that might've left a lingering bad taste in his mouth. Also the boys have gotten used to Richmond without him at that point, and it HAS been a much better environment, so I think it'd be easy to overlook that they were actually sort of starting to like him at the bonfire the night before he went back to Manchester (which was ultimately only just one night), in favor of focusing on all the times he was made the locker room worse. Also, there's probably a bit of misplacing their hatred for their past selves onto Jamie because it's easier to shift that blame around a bit than accept their own culpability in the bullying. Just like it's easier to blame relegation on Jamie, because he's there to blame, then on their own shortcomings in the game. Is it a bit unfair to Jamie? Sure. But it's realistic and I don't mind it.
Actually the only one I'm a bit ??? about is Dani, because he was absolutely getting along with Jamie in Two Aces even despite Jamie's prickish exterior. Dani hadn't even been around long enough to be negatively impacted by Jamie's effect on the locker room culture so? what gives? I also don't see him bandwagoning on just because everyone else hates him (which does make sense when jan does it hahah). So it's very weird to me that he holds as much of a grudge as everyone else, lol.
The biggest issue for me is (once again. woop.) Ted. Because he didn't want to get rid of Jamie in the first place. He was in fact IRATE when Jamie was sent away, and got into his first real argument with Rebecca over it, that's how upset he was. So why is he soo hesitant, suddenly, to let Jamie come back? His whole speech to Jamie at the Crown & Anchor makes me uncomfortable, because the whole "You burned a lot of bridges" thing doesn't even add up to the real reason Jamie was sent away and totally dismisses the progress he had already started to make before leaving. It seems to reiterate that Jamie was sent away because he'd been Bad and Done Something Wrong. Sent away after he'd in fact had a significant breakthrough with the team. No wonder Jamie is confused. Ted is crossing all kinds of wires and it's ??? Not to mention that he tells Sam Jamie isn't coming back, then brings Jamie back seemingly without even pulling Sam aside and explaining to him circumstances have changed, Jamie is coming back, and why. It's one thing to have told Sam and then change your mind. It's another thing for Sam to tell you he's upset at you for withholding information, explain that's not the case, then go and do the thing you JUST assured Sam you wouldn't: not consult the team re: Jamie. Idk, the whole thing rubs me the wrong way.
Ted having a conversation with the team beforehand, explaining why Jamie is coming back, would've already gone a long way to help Jamie, instead of just springing him on them and throwing him to the wolves. Led Tasso was typical hands-off Ted problem solving, and it's a funny comedy show bit but not exactly an appropriate workplace solution, is it? I might not mind it so much if it wasn't the start of a pattern of behavior where Jamie needs help, asks for help, and then is like...ignored or gone around or "acknowledged" and not helped. it happens with his return to the team, it happens with Roy refusing to coach him, it happens with fucking Zava. And it's extremely annoying that the team leadership fails him specifically again and again. ugh.
Re: Sharon/therapy and referring the boys, that one is soooo mixed up in ted's own mental health stuff I'm willing to give it a pass. of course Ted's not to going to refer players to see her when he doesn't see what she does as helpful and doesn't respect therapy as a possible tool/solution.

Companion piece to One Night - You're the first woman after Sharon.
Tumblr media
Vince can’t pretend he doesn’t know what you look like underneath that sheriff’s uniform. That he hasn’t seen the scar on your right shoulder that looks like a bullet wound or traced his lips over the tattoo on your thigh. Whenever you're in any sort of proximity he can’t help but remember the night the two of you spent together. His calloused palms roving all over your body, the taste of your honey on his tongue, that sweet little noise you made for him when you climaxed.
You’ve lit a fire in him that will just not be sated and he thinks you feel it too.
The first time he invites you over, he fucks you on the couch. There’s a wordless agreement between you that the bedroom is off limits. That was his wife’s domain and there’s no space for her in the shit the two of you get up to together. When you fall asleep, he holds you close, his face buried in your hair as his fingertips stroke through it. It’s been a long time since he’s had a goodnight’s sleep but when he wakes up the next morning with a crick in his back, he feels more well rested than he has in years.
Vince doesn’t intend for it to become a regular thing but it does. Sunday nights he cooks at his place, Wednesdays you order take out at yours. There’s usually some fooling around in between depending whose on call and when.
It’s only when he’s shopping for condoms two towns over that realises the madness of it all. You’ve have been seeing each other for over six months at this point, there’s commitment there, love. Why the hell is he still hiding it?
He thinks of Sharon on the drive back, the conversation they had before she’d collapsed at the Fire Camp Cookout.
“Promise me you won’t become that grumpy old fire chief that lives on the hill.” She’d requested, her hands clasping his so tightly he thought her fingers might break. “That you’ll live your life, try to move on, be happy.”
“There is no happy without you.” He’d told her, his thumb chasing over the wedding band on her finger.
“Vince, I know you won’t deny a dying woman her final wish.” She had said, giving him that look. “You need to make me this promise.”
So he had because his wife was dying and he would have given her anything in that moment. Twelve hours later she was gone and he had become that man on the hill. He had been that man for over three years before he met you.
“I want people to know.” He tells you later that night. The two of you are curled up on the couch together, a blanket draped over your legs because it gets a little cold up here during the winter. His arm is wrapped around your shoulders, holding you close as his lips brush over your temple. “I don’t want this to be a secret anymore.”
“That is a bell you can’t unring.” You remind him, your palm coming to rest on the space where his heart resides.
“I know.” He tells you. “But we’re getting serious and I’m sick of going out of town to buy prophylactics.”
You laugh and that sound, Jesus he didn’t realise just how much he loved it until this moment.
“I’m crazy about you.” He finds himself telling you, his lips brushing over yours. “Absolutely crazy."

Pile On - Just Us Chapter 30
Warnings: Pure fluff
Word Count: 2621
Series List | Chapter 29 | Chapter 31
================================
"Hey don't go out there without me." I point to the doors that out to the decking, making Yelena stop in her tracks and turn to look at me in the kitchen.
"And why not?" She comes and joins me in the kitchen, so I open another bottle of beer and pass it off to her.
"Because you will be dealing with an angry Russian and an angry Sokovian, emphasis on angry, and there isn't anything Switzerland can do about it." Yelena's eyebrows raise at my point.
"I'm assuming the ole so peaceful Switzerland is Sharon?"
"You assume correctly."
"So how am I meant to go out there without being chucked across the garden by the two of them?" I giggle as I look out the kitchen window to see Wanda look towards the house, not seeing me in the window, a worried expression on her face.
"We just go out there all buddy buddy."
"What does that entail?"
"Oh I don't know." I inch closer to her as she takes another swig of her drink, looking at me over the rim of the bottle.
"What are you doing?"
"Nothing." I drag the word out as I walk right past her towards the doors, but touch my arm to her shoulder as I pass. "TAG YOUR IT!"
I bolt out of the kitchen scurrying to get the doors open, just in time before Yelena could get me back.
"Oh you little shit. It's on!" I run outside onto the decking, Natasha and Wanda immediately stand from their seats as they see me rush past.
I stand on the opposite side of the table to the house, placing my drink down, so I don't have to run with it. My palms are flat to the table as I see Yelena finally join us outside. As she moves to the left of the table I shuffle the opposite way, as she moves back the other way I move opposite to her once again. Wanda and Natasha seem to relax as they see the large smiles on our faces and us dancing left to right as Yelena tries to get to me while I try to get away.
What I don't expect is for her to vault over the table, but I react just in time turning around and I vault over the decking railing rolling as I hit the ground to break my fall. Wanda's bottom lip is between her teeth, but I can only look for a millisecond before I make another mad dash away from Yelena as she jumps down the stairs of the decking still coming after me. I run towards the boys, who are playing in their own little world and when they see me running towards them their eyes widen.
"RUN YELENA IS TAGGED!" I shout, all three boys immediately scrabble to their feet sitting up but Yelena relents and continues to chase me.
After a few more minutes of Yelena chasing me, she almost gives up until I trip. I trip over nothing but air landing hard on the grass earning an ow from the three women who are spectating this ridiculous game of tag. So Yelena places herself on top of my back to keep me on the ground.
"Boys I got her!" Yelena fist pumps the air in celebration as the boys come and see as Yelena does a little celebratory dance on top of me.
"PILE ON!" Nathaniel is the first to run up and jump on me, and I let out a sharp breath at the impact.
"Oh careful Nathaniel, you could have hurt her then." Yelena's voice sounds suddenly caring but not for long as she shouts the other two boys over.
"Sorry sissy, did I hurt you?" Nathaniel leans down to my ear as the twins scramble to join the pile on.
"Not too bad, you just made all the air get pushed out of my lungs." I feel Tommy pull Nathaniel off of me so he can lay down on me, with Nathaniel on him so he doesn't squish him. "Thank you Tommy."
"No problem Y/n just wanted to make sure he didn't get hurt." I feel Billy sit on my legs now too.
"Everyone comfortable?" I ask sarcastically.
"Very." I hear them all speak at the same time.
I move my hands next to my face ready to push myself upwards to get them off me so we can continue our game of tag, but I am stopped by Nathaniel when he requests for me to do something.
"Sissy, can you show everyone that pile on trick?"
"Which one?
"Pile off."
"Okay, so Billy I need you to come up and sit on my back, Nathaniel and Tommy make room for him please. Yelena you can stay where you are."
"I wasn't planning on moving." I roll my eyes, not that she can see the movement but I feel her smack the back of my head. "Ow."
"Well don't roll your eyes at me."
"I didn't."
"Yes you did. Don't lie."
"Fine whatever, I rolled my eyes." I get another smack on the back of the head and move my hand to rub the sore spot. "Ow. What now?"
"That's for lying to me."
"Okay, moving on. Everyone on my back?" I hear a chorus of yes'. "Good, tighten up your legs so you don't fall off and try not to move about too much. How many should I try Nathaniel?"
"Hmmm. MISS WANDA!" Nathaniel grabs Wanda's attention from where the other three are standing on the decking. "Can you please shout a random number out?!"
"10!" I hear her angelic voice shout back, I can hear the smirk in her voice.
"10!! Jeez what are you trying to do kill me?! I've got 3 elephants and a Russian on my back right now. OW!" I feel another smack to my head, okay I probably deserved that one. "Fine, you owe me a drink after this though."
"Sure thing ba...Y/n." I hear her stop her words before she says them, I hope the boys didn't pick up on it.
I grumble as I put my hands in position, my toes on the floor ready to do 10 push-ups with people on my back. The first one is the hardest to do as I have to actually push myself off of the floor and get the momentum going. As I dip back down, my nose touches the floor before I bring us all back up.
"1!" Nathaniel shouts as I lock my arms out before starting to descend again. My nose touches the ground and I push back up, locking my arms. "2!"
"3!" I hear Tommy and Billy join in the counting, and Nathaniel cheering in my ear that I can do it.
"4!"
"5!"
"You're halfway there sissy!" I can now feel the strain of lifting my body weight plus that of four others up and down repeatedly but it's not painful at this point. I go back down again, nose touching the grass. I let out a breath as I push upwards.
"6!" I hear Yelena join in the counting.
"This is impressive 4 more Y/n." I feel her shift slightly on my butt as I go down and up again, so I hold my movements so she can lock herself in place again. "Right I'm situated, go again."
"7!"
"8!"
"9!"
Now the three adults on the decking are counting on too, I can hear Wanda give words of encouragement alongside the boys and Yelena. I pretend to struggle as I lower my body, breathing in and out at a fast pace to try and get as much oxygen as I can around my body as I can feel the acid build up in my muscles. I take in a breath holding it for a second. As I push upwards I release the breath at the same pace as I move up. As soon as my arms lock in place, everyone cheers and Nathaniel leans his body downwards wrapping his arm around my neck as he places his left cheek against my right cheek.
"You did it sissy! That was amazing!"
I feel Yelena climb off of me first, helping Tommy and Billy off of my body. I know Nathaniel is holding onto me securely so I move my arms along the ground towards my waist so I can push myself up to a crouching position before standing up straight. Nathaniel's legs wrap around my torso and he holds his arm like he is carrying a sword.
"Onward horse!"
I laugh, but oblige, and start galloping towards the decking making sure to bounce Nathaniel up and down on my back. I can feel his little butt lift off into the air before bouncing back down against my back, his giggles filling the backyard and I can feel his chest heave with laughter against my back. I carefully climb the stairs of the decking, not willing to vault over it with a child on my back, making my way to the table and chairs. I turn around, Nathaniel still on my back, and move to sit down in one of the chairs. I make sure Nathaniel is in the chair as I continue to sit down, not putting any of my weight on him but also knowing he is trapped between the chair and me.
"Someone help! I'm trapped!" I feel Nathaniel's feet and hands push against my butt and back as he tries to move me out of the way, which doesn't work. "Tommy! Billy!"
I see the boys run up the decking, each of them grabbing my arms and pulling on them as Nathaniel pushes against me. I use all my strength to stop them from moving me, but end up sliding a little against the decking. Billy and Tommy use that to their advantage and give one big tug which leaves enough room for Nathaniel to scramble off the chair. I check behind me to make sure he is off of it before I pull the other two boys back, collapsing in the chair with them ending up on my lap, one arm wrapped around each of them. I stop my movements for one second before my hands make it to their stomachs and I start a tickle attack. Their laughter and giggles are carried through the garden and when I look at Wanda she has a fuzzy smile on her face as she watches us; and a look in her eyes I can't quite decipher.
(Wanda PoV)
I watch in awe as the boys laugh travel across the backyard, their smiles so big their eyes are almost closed their cheeks red from laughing. I haven't seen them relax this much, or laugh this much in a really long time. When they beg her to stop, and I see Nathaniel curled up on the floor as he laughs at them, she immediately stops and her head whips around to look at Nathaniel who knows he is in for it now.
The twins bolt off of Y/n's lap, Tommy grabs Nathaniel off of the floor running ahead of his brother. He is just like Pietro, fast on his feet and so quick. Billy is running closely behind them, as Y/n once again vaults over the railing landing in front of the boys who slide to a halt. Her vaulting over that shows her arm muscles flexing and putting strain on her shirt which is a little tight around her biceps, not that I'm complaining. Oh and when she grabs the railing her veins, oh god the veins in her arms bulge and I have to clench my thighs together when I feel my body warm as I think about her.
I didn't even realise I was staring into space, until inside of laughter I hear Y/n say shit apologise to the boys for her foul language and then a cry. My motherly instincts kick in, standing from my chair dashing to the stairs of the decking looking towards where the crying is coming from. I see Y/n cradling Nathaniel in her arms, bouncing up and down on the ball of her feet, as she tries to calm him down. She is so good with him, and the twins, and it makes my heart happy but also ache because I asked her to be introduced as a friend first.
Out of my peripheral vision I see Natasha come and stand next to me. She wraps her arm around my body bringing me closer to her so I rest my head on top of hers. She gives my side a squeeze so I lift my head to look at her.
"She is good with them." Natasha doesn't need to tell me who she is on about.
"She really is."
"Why did you not want to introduce her as your girlfriend?" Ouch, there it is I feel my heart stops at the question and I feel like a deer caught in headlights.
"When I told her it made sense, she also agreed and made the situation make sense even more like she does with her words and just knowing what to say."
"And now?" I look from Natasha to Y/n who is giving Nathaniel's knee a small kiss, placing him on the floor and he bolts away from her as soon as his feet hit the ground. Tommy and Billy now reassured that Nathaniel is okay join back in, chasing after Nathaniel or the other way around. My eyes watch as Y/n acts casual trying to trick the children into moving closer to her.
"Don't be afraid I don't bite." She says in a creepy voice that let's the boys know she is definitely lying. "Well I mean I did bite a kid once." As soon as she said it she bolted towards them gnashing her teeth playfully to imitate some sort of monster as the children squeal and run away.
As I'm watching her run around with my children a new feeling, a scary feeling creeps up on me. I feel it in my heart causing it to speed up as I watch them all. My palms become sweaty, I feel the butterflies trying to escape, my mouth dry. My heart skips a beat when I hear her laugh from across the yard, and that smile. I want to see that smile everyday, I want to be with her every waking moment. I know I have her but I want her, no one else. It's all her. She is all I have ever needed all wanted, I feel an invisible string tugging at my heart, causing this pull between me and her. I crave every bit of her. From the scar on her rib and back, to the dipoles that show when she smiles so widely at me, her eyes always seem to be a different shade from what they were the last time I saw them. Her charismatic charm, humbling personality and that oh so ever smart brain of hers.
There is also this look that makes my heart fly out of my chest, it makes me lose my breath every time, the zoo in my stomach going wild when I see it. It's when I have her complete and undivided attention, like she is looking at the most precious thing in the universe, in the multitude of universes. She looks at me like I'm the most important thing there is. I know for a fact I look at her the same way.
I need her.
I want her.
I crave her.
I love her.

I’m so psyched for headcannons!!! What about one that’s a little angsty like you and Ted on a break?
i’m glad you’re excited! thanks for sending this in! we all love a little angst. (tagging @carmylasso because I know she’s all about some angst)
got a lil long winded with this one and just ran with it, don’t say i didn’t warn you!
also, spoilers for season 3 if you haven’t watched yet.
ted would absolutely overthink everything
i feel like he’d intiate it while dealing with the whole dr. jacob mess
he thinks about how easily michelle cheated, how it was right under his nose
how he had NO idea it was even happening
his anxiety gets the best of him and combined with the stress of the team he has a “you know what? let’s push everyone away” moment
you guys had only gone on a couple dates, but have been close friends since he moved to richmond
he felt he’d gotten over Michelle enough to where he could finally express his feelings for you without that getting in the way
def would do it after the phone call, and a couple glasses of whiskey
he does it over the phone, his words are slurred and his voice is thick and you can tell somethings just wrong, but he hangs up before you can question him any further
you text him
“Ted, please talk to me about this. Things have been going good, I thought”
“They were. It’s not you, I’m sorry.”
and that’s it for a couple days
EESH maybe he doesn’t show up to work for the rest of the week, calls in “sick”
and when he tries pulling that excuse the next week, beard & roy go over to his apartment and straighten him the fuck out
they make him shower, help him clean, make him eat
“What does y/n have to say about all of this?”
“She uh- she don’t know.”
and they think about how you acted at work and put the pieces together
they lovingly rip into him about how he’s known you for over a year now, how they know he’s hurt by michelle’s cheating but not everyone is like that
what gets him is when they talk about how you’ve been at work. not happy or bubbly as usual, eating alone in your office, always having a sniffle and puffy eyes in the halls.
“Shit, y’all.. I-I did that to her.. I was just tryin’ to avoid getting hurt again I never meant to-“
Beard shakes is head and is like “No, tell her that”
would have a therapy session the next day and explains everything to dr sharon, she also tells him that he handled that wrong and should’ve just let you in, or asked for some reassurance from you
after that, he goes to your apartment with flowers and shaky hands
you answer in a robe, wine bottle behind you, eyes red and swollen, he can tell you’ve been crying.
your usually tidy living room is super cluttered
“Can I come in? I’ve got some explainin’ to do.”
breaks his heart when you sit on the opposite end of the couch instead of right beside him
he explains what happened with michelle, his thought process of not wanting to get hurt again, all of it
“I wasn’t the one that did that, Ted. I shouldn’t be punished for her mistake.”
“I know.. That was unfair, and I’m sorry.”
definitely not the type of guy to ignore the fact he made a mistake
“This won’t work without trust, Ted. I cant be in a relationship with you if you don’t trust me.”
“There was never an issue with trust, it was just- I was scared. So scared, y/n.”
“Then tell me that next time. Tell me what you’re scared of, or if i’ve done something to make you feel scared, or if you just need reassurance. I can work with that, Ted, but not if you just shut me out.”
“Do you think we could maybe uh, make some sorta system for when I’m feelin’ that way? Because I can’t promise I won’t be kinda scared for a while but I don’t want it messin’ with what we’ve got goin’ on. Don’t want her messin’ up anymore of the good things in my life.”
sooo that’s what you do. maybe similar to the “oklahoma” situation, you come up with a word for when he’s feeling scared or anxious, particularly when it’s related to the relationship
tears up a bit, it’s just pretty emotional overall
maybe you sit in on a session with dr sharon
i do think he’d make some strong improvement after that, like how we’ve seen with his panic attacks
would set boundaries about things that make him especially anxious, and asks you to do the same
very open and honest as a lover, regardless of the whole michelle shitshow
so apologetic for a while because he know what he did was wrong
oh god just imagine him holding while he calms down that night
he’d need you so close
just needs to feel you around him
needs to feel you breathe, smell your shampoo, needs to know you’re there for him
i’m so fucking soft for this man
thanks anon!! this was fun!!

Part 8
"Extended Suppressant Use in the Omega Patient: a literature review" (Mueller et al. 2019)
Tumblr media
The bathroom incident does not give Steve high hopes of an easy first week with Barnes. Many new students wind up requiring extra attention in their early days at the school, so Steve is honestly surprised when he isn’t paged that Tuesday with a similar fiasco. He’s outright impressed when Wednesday and then most of Thursday passes by with no incidents, either. Whatever Sharon’s doing, it must be working well.
Steve can’t say he doesn’t think about the boy regardless. He can’t help but remember their encounter in the bathroom; holding him down and dominating him into submission, pressing on his belly until he finally lost control. The sounds of the boy’s sweet whimpers are burned into Steve’s memory, the earthy and lightly floral hints of his scent still so easy to draw up in his mind. It’s a good thing that this is a busy week for Steve, otherwise he’d hate to think of how much more preoccupied he’d be by thoughts of his new omega charge.
As it is, his schedule is chock full, his time eaten up with all of his normal headmaster duties (which are considerable), seeing through the end stages of the Academy’s formal division between the girls’ and boys’ sides, and a renovation that they’ve got going on in the south wing corridor. All of that, coupled with the small squabbles that Peggy manages to come up with on an almost daily basis, helps to keep Steve’s mind occupied. And on top of everything, there’s still a lot to be done for the upcoming parents’ weekend.
He spends most of that Thursday morning dealing with matters directly related to the event that is, in essence, their biggest fundraiser of the year. All day, he's coordinating with his faculty; making sure that everything’s been ordered, scheduled, and arranged just how it needs to be to give the right impression to their guests, provide the right experience.
It’s crucial that all of the right people be well taken care of over the three day weekend, in order to ensure that their endowments to the school keep flowing in. Steve liaises with his staff over the details of the family picnic, the various assemblies and presentations that will be made, the planned activities for each afternoon and dinners that’ll be hosted each evening, and—perhaps most important of all—the formal presentation ball that caps off the weekend of festivities. This year they’re having a few ice sculptures flown in from Edinburgh. Silly in Steve's view, but a classic touch of extravagance that the guests will appreciate.
European nobility, old-money aristocrats, and even some high profile celebrities have been known to show up to the school’s annual matchmaking ball, always seeking amenable, traditional omega mates for themselves. And when your guest lists regularly include names like Vanderbilt, Kennedy, and Stark, good first impressions become very expensive and very necessary. Last term, a Greek shipping heir worth billions had scooped up one of the graduating class’ students, and once news of that had gotten around, enrollment for the next semester skyrocketed.
Steve takes great pride in the academic education provided by his school, but he’s also a realist: He knows that parents place high value on the promise of even a chance for their offspring to be so suitably matched. That, along with the behavioral outcomes the school is known for achieving, is a big reason why many families elect to send their sons to Carter Academy over other, similar schools on the continent.
With so much to get done, Steve doesn’t get around to eating his lunch that day until well into the afternoon. He eats alone at his desk—a decision that has very little to do with the fact that he can monitor the school’s video surveillance system from his desktop computer. It’s not because he wants to check up on Bucky and hasn’t been able to stop thinking about the kid since Monday. Nope, not at all. Steve always uses the camera system to check in on the happenings around campus, it’s nothing new. And it’s good practice, anyway. A headmaster needs to be involved in his school for it to run smoothly.
If Bucky’s seventh period class is gym, and the gymnasium is the first area Steve decides to check, well that’s just happenstance.
Tumblr media
He logs into the system and scrolls through the long list of camera views. He has the most heavily trafficked areas bookmarked, but there are hundreds to choose from, every inch of the Academy’s buildings and grounds monitored by the StarkTec cameras.
Carter Academy has its own dedicated security team to keep an eye on things, of course. Rumlow and his men do a very good job of making sure the close to three hundred hormonal teenage boys that the school houses stay in line. Every year there are inevitably fights, students caught in each other’s bedrooms at the wrong hours for the wrong reasons, or a few runaways who gravely underestimate the distance and terrain between Carter Academy and the nearest town. Nothing that isn’t always quickly remedied, but parents appreciate the close eye that Steve and the rest of his administration are able to keep on their children at all hours of the day.
He navigates to the camera views of the gymnasium and sports complex. The majority of students get scheduled for some sort of physical activity at the end of each school day. Exercise is important for omega bodies, and the gym period is thus positioned after all academic lessons have concluded, to allow for the running off of excess energy. It’s a time when their Handlers can take their well-deserved breaks. With only Mr. Odinson and the other Phys-ed staff looking after so many boys, gym period can get quite chaotic, and it predictably takes Steve a few moments to locate Bucky in the throng.
Eventually he sees him: loitering off to one side of the indoor soccer field, half heartedly kicking a ball back and forth with the Parker boy. He’s changed into his gym uniform, though he hardly seems to be exerting himself. Rather, he’s in deep conversation with Parker, which Steve is happy to see. Every first year student coming into Carter Academy usually struggles at first, but it’s always a good sign when they make friends quickly. Parker, who can normally be found bouncing off the complex’s obstacle courses, seems to have dialed it down a notch to hang out with Bucky, the two of them talking animatedly between themselves. Steve even catches Bucky smiling a time or two, which lifts his hopes that the kid will assimilate well into his new routine. Perhaps this won’t be as hard as he’d imagined.
“Sir?”
He flicks off the monitor when his secretary knocks at the door. “Yes?”
“Ms. Carter here to see you, Sir.”
Sharon comes in, and the two of them hold their pre-planned meeting about Barnes’ first days on campus and how Sharon has assessed his needs so far. Barnes is attitudinal, but Sharon seems to be amused by him, more than anything else. She hands over her recommendations for protocol, telling Steve that she’s not sure a male handler wouldn’t be in the boy’s best interest.
“Oh?” Steve raises an eyebrow as he’s perusing her checkmarks along the list. “Why do you say that?”
“You’ve seen what a handful he can be,” Sharon drawls. “Not that I don’t think I can handle him, but he responds more submissively to the male staff, and I think he’s primarily same-sex oriented.”
“You think?” Bucky’s transcripts from his old school had noted that he was equally as promiscuous with boys as he was with girls.
“Yes. And after Monday’s bathroom incident, I think he might do better with a man.” At the mention of ‘the bathroom incident’, Sharon fixes him with a meaningful look. “He responded well with you.”
Steve nods, flipping through the assessment packet. “Yes, well I am the headmaster. They tend to kowtow faster to me.” He tries to think of which male Handlers he has available at the moment. Typically, he doesn't over-prioritize students’ attractions when placing them with a Handler, as romantic attachment is something to be avoided at all costs, but if it’s a behavioral issue that can be corrected with something as simple as the gender of an assigned Handler, then Steve will consider it. “Thank you Sharon,” he tells her, once they’ve wrapped up the meeting. “It sounds like he’s doing alright, so I’ll keep him with you for now.”
“You’re the boss.”
“Alas, yes.” Steve sighs and so does Sharon, mocking him in a friendly sort of way. When she heaves a genuinely heavy inhale and declares that she has to 'get back to the grind', Barnes’ seventh period is almost over, Steve steps in. “Why don't I take him off your hands for the evening?” he suggests. Sharon looks pleased, but not overly surprised, her knowing smirk making Steve feel the need to defend himself, “It’s been a few days now, I should check in with him.”
“Sure.”
Steve frowns at her continued smug expression. “He’s got an appointment with the doc I need to escort him to, anyways.”
“Sure thing, boss.” Sharon is still smirking when she bids him farewell, leaving the office to take the rest of her day off.
Steve huffs and rolls his eyes. Whatever. He’s not giving Bucky any more attention than he’d give any other troubled new student. He grabs the boy’s folder and rolls out from his desk, planning to head for the gymnasium complex and intercept him there.
… If he checks his reflection in the little mirror by the door on his way out, it’s only because he always does that and it's habit at this point. It’s the professional thing to do, to make sure one looks put together before heading back out in public. Certainly it doesn’t have anything to do with how he’s heading out to deal with Barnes. That’s just happenstance.
Tumblr media
Seeing Bucky again after several days is refreshing, and seeing him being friendly with another student brings a literal smile to Steve’s face. This is a good sign. It bodes well for how Bucky will do adapting to his new life.
Peter Parker can be hyperactive and spirited, but he’s a sweet boy at heart with a solid head on his shoulders and a brain between his ears that he actually chooses to use more often than not. He’s done well in the Academy’s program, and he’ll be an excellent person for Bucky to attach himself to during his time here. Steve stands by the gymnasium door with a delighted smirk on his face, because he really couldn’t have chosen better himself.
The boys still have a few minutes left to their gym period when Steve gets there, so he leaves them to their uninspired soccer ball kicking and goes to touch base with Odinson in the athletic director’s office. Thor is all smiles and has nothing negative to say about any of the boys, as per usual, and Steve thanks him and tells him to make a note that perhaps Barnes could be encouraged to put a little more effort in and try out the parkour courses or the rock walls with Parker, moving forward.
He intercepts Bucky just as he’s coming out of the locker rooms. His hair is curling at the edges after having showered (amusing—the boy was barely exerting himself) and changed back into his regular uniform. The relaxed expression falls right off of his face when he sees Steve standing there. “Oh,” he says, coming up short. “You.”
Steve smiles indulgently. “Yes, I’m afraid. Me.”
“Hey Bucky I’ll see you at dinner maybe?”
“Yeah,” Bucky says distractedly, eyes still on Steve. “Sounds good.”
Parker heads off with his handler—Natasha, Steve notes, one of the very best and most dominant females he keeps on staff. "Making friends?" Steve asks.
Bucky ignores the question. “Why’re you here?” he asks mulishly, as Steve begins escorting him in the direction of the medical office. “Where’s Sharon?”
“Sharon’s taking a well-deserved break,” Steve drawls. "She and I had a progress meeting about you in my office, just now.”
Bucky gets tightlipped then and doesn’t say anything, but Steve can see the wheels and cogs turning in his head as he wonders what was said about him. “She had mostly good or neutral things to report,” Steve offers, figuring the boy could use some reassurance. “But of course, I already knew from our interaction on Monday that you're having some difficulties adapting to school protocol.”
Bucky scowls at the floor as they walk. “Just because I don’t like pissing in front of people every day,” he grumbles. “At least we get some privacy to shit around here. Go figure.”
Steve laughs, then decides to strike the fear of God into the boy by remarking, “Oh, that’s a privilege that can be stripped away, too, if needed,” as they approach the end of the hall where the medical offices are. Bucky’s eyes shoot up to him, wide as saucers, and Steve snickers. “Yeah, I know. A true case of a ‘this is going to hurt me more than it’s going to hurt you’ punishment, that’s for certain.”
Bucky all but ‘meeps!’ and Steve snickers and puts a hand on his back to guide him into the office. “Appointment for James Barnes,” he tells the receptionist, who immediately starts checking the computer screen.
Bucky turns on Steve, leery, as he gets a look at their surroundings. “What’s going on? Why are we here?”
Steve ignores him until he’s gotten the go ahead from the receptionist and is guiding Bucky back towards one of the exam areas. “Just a check up. Standard practice for incoming students.” He pushes Bucky into the curtained off area and draws the curtain around to Bucky’s squawks of protest.
“What?! I don’t need to see anybody. I’m totally healthy.”
“That’s the goal. But we need to get you checked out, make sure there’s nothing that needs addressed.” Bucky opens his mouth to complain again, but Steve beats him to the chase, bending to pick him up by the waist and depositing his protesting butt onto the exam table. “Sit.”
“Hey!” Bucky’s scowling, but Steve doesn’t miss the light flush in his face at having been manhandled and reminded of his size and comparative weakness in the face of an alpha like Steve. He doesn’t try to get off the table at least, only shifting in annoyance and making the paper cover crinkle under his butt. “Could’a done it myself,” he grumbles.
Steve shakes his head fondly. “We need to get you examined. Behave, or I’ll have no problem with disciplining you while you’re under my care." Bucky goes tight-lipped at that. Steve nods in satisfaction. "Good."
“When’s Sharon coming back?”
“I told you: she’s been given a well-deserved night off. You’re with me until bedtime, young lady.”
“Don’t call me that.”
Steve sighs and shakes his head. What might’ve been considered affectionate a generation ago, now elicits only indignation and pushback. It’s sad. “Just behave for the doctor, will you?”
Bucky doesn’t say anything, but when the nurse arrives and introduces herself, he’s generally obedient as she runs through his medical history with him. He speaks more quietly when answering the questions about his sexual health, but Steve doesn't get the sense that he's lying—only that he doesn't want Steve to overhear. (Steve still hears everything, including the boy's very reluctant answer of having had "thirty something" past sexual partners).
Far from evoking displeasure, it mostly just makes Steve sad for the boy. Omegas may have very high sex drives, but they don't fare well in promiscuous situations. Bucky's lack of a reliable partner is probably one of the major contributors to his present mental health issues.
Steve remains quiet and allows Bucky his illusion of privacy on the other side of the curtained off area. The nurse listens to Bucky's heart and lungs, charts his blood pressure and other vitals, and takes a blood draw. It isn’t until she hands him a privacy sheet and tells him to undress below the waist that he kicks up a fuss. “What?"
“The doctor will be right in to do the pelvic exam.”
“What? No. Why?!”
Used to tantrums, the nurse completely disregards him and looks to Steve. “Headmaster?”
“I’ve got him.” The nurse nods and leaves, and Bucky starts to move to try and get off the exam table. Steve rolls his eyes and goes over and pushes him back into place. “Not so fast, son. Now if you can’t behave we’ll have to do this the hard way.”
“What’s the hard way?”
“Strapped face down on a bench,” he tells him, no-nonsense (though really, that's the easier way for omegas. He just knows Bucky will fight it more). “And that'll earn you a guaranteed spanking in my office, after.”
Bucky growls an angry little omega growl at him, “Why do I have to do this? What’s the friggin’ point?!”
With his hands clamped on Bucky’s shoulders, Steve bends down and gets in his face. “Because you were popping suppressants for two years, Honey. That stuff can cause all sorts of problems.”
“No it can’t!”
Steve ignores him and gives him a warning look to keep him in place. He reaches down and pulls one of the exam table’s metal stirrups out, which makes the kid even more visibly upset.
When Steve reaches under the skirt of his uniform to get his underwear down, Bucky growls and tries to kick him, nearly kneeing him right in the nose. Oh. That does it. Steve gives up on playing nice, standing up and grabbing him, using one hand to scruff him while he wraps the other around his waist. “Okay, bud. That was your one chance. If you’re gonna be difficult, we’ll do it your way. Let’s go.”
“Nngh! Lemme go!”
“Calm down, Honey. Stop fighting, it’s not going to work.”
The kid whimpers and goes limp for a few seconds from the endorphins of the scruff, but still wiggles in Steve’s arms once he’s manhandled him into the next exam room over—where there’s an exam bench quite similar in function to a traditional spanking bench. Bucky balks when he sees it. “No! Wait!” It takes laughably little effort to get the boy face down on the bench. Steve gets him strapped to it, and by the time he’s removing his underwear and securing his ankles, all the fight has left Bucky and he’s begging instead. “Please, Mr. Rogers. I’m really sorry.”
Steve grabs the room’s extra chair and pulls it over to sit by his head. “I know Buck. This won’t take long. Just try to relax.”
“Please lemme up. I’m sorry. I’ll go back. I’ll do it the other way, I will!”
“Can’t do that, Sweetheart. We need to check that everything’s alright and you’ve proven to me that you can’t be trusted to hold still.” He might’ve considered the request to go back and ‘do it the other way’, if he didn’t already know full well that the prone position is much more soothing for omegas to be in. “This’ll be better,” he promises. “It’ll help you stay relaxed. It feels nice to be strapped in like this, yeah?”
“But I don’t want tooo,” Bucky whines, not refuting Steve’s statement, and with less fight in him as he realizes that he’s been stripped of all control. “It’s embarrassing.”
Steve smiles sadly and pets his face. “It’s for your own good, Sweetheart. Something every omega has to do. The doctor’s just going to come in and use a tool to examine you and make sure everything’s alright. It’ll hardly take a minute.”
Bucky sniffles and turns his face into Steve’s hand, nuzzling his inner wrist and subconsciously seeking out the alpha’s scent for comfort. “Will it hurt?” he whispers.
Steve’s heart constricts—both at the question and the scenting behavior. “No, Honey. Of course not. Haven’t you ever had a reproductive health exam?” It’s supposed to be a standard part of healthcare after an omega’s first heat, but with only two beta parents in the home, Steve doesn’t know why he’s surprised. “It won’t hurt,” he reassures him. “Just relax down against the bench and be good from now on, and we won’t do a punishment spanking after, okay?”
“Really?” Bucky is clearly motivated by this promise, as he stops sniveling as much and nods when the doctor comes in. “Okay,” he says quietly, and Steve smiles and praises him,
“Good girl.”
The school’s doctor is a calm and friendly beta male, and though he doesn’t make any attempt to ascertain Bucky’s consent or opinion on what they’re doing there today, he does speak calmly to Bucky and talk him through each and every step of what happens, before it happens. Steve stays sitting right in front of Bucky the whole time, holding his hand and keeping his own wrist up by Bucky’s face so that the boy can continue to use his scent to self-soothe.
Bucky goes red in the face as soon as the doctor flips his uniform up and starts palpating and examining his genitals. Even though Bucky's almost certainly trying his absolute best not to get aroused, the faint scent of slick still hits the air after only a moment or two, and he cringes and whines in embarrassment. "Hngh ..."
“It’s okay,” Steve murmurs, trying to placate him with the words and a gentle rumble in his chest. “It’s completely normal to have a reaction. The doc's used to it. No big deal.” Frankly, for an omega to be touched between their legs and not become aroused would be cause for concern. They’re so sensitive down there that it’s to be virtually expected. But Steve can tell that this is little comfort to Bucky, who goes even redder in the face when the doctor hums in agreement and makes an additional comment about Bucky's arousal responses being healthy.
“I’m going to prep the speculum now,” he tells Bucky. “It’ll be cool and hard, but it won’t hurt you.”
Bucky whines in mortification, his eyes clenching shut. Steve shushes him and pets his hair, which he seems to like because he pushes into it and untenses somewhat. Steve knows the precise second that the speculum goes in though, because Bucky's eyes pop right back open and he makes a small, shocked sound of, “Oh!"
Steve cups his face and tries to keep his attention. “Hey, you’re doing so good,” he praises, swiping his thumb at the corner of the omega’s eye, right where an overwhelmed tear has broken out. “Doesn’t hurt, right?”
Bucky trembles and shakes his head. “N-no.” He whimpers when the doctor does something from behind, and then his eyes go a little unfocused. “Oh …” The next time he whines, it’s verging a little closer to a moan of pleasure than one of sheer worry. “Ohnn… nngh, just … mmm, s’weird.”
Steve tuts sympathetically, slightly aroused himself at seeing Bucky react this way. He clears his throat and tries to remain professional. “I know, Sweetheart, I know it’s a lot. Just hang in there for me.” He meets the doctor’s eyes from over Bucky’s back, shooting him an anxious look.
The doctor nods. “Everything seems fine, Headmaster Rogers. He’s just a little swollen.”
“Swollen?” Steve straightens, concerned. “Is it bad? He was on oral suppressants for about two years.”
The doctor smirks and shakes his head. “No, not that kind of swollen, Sir.”
“Oh.” Steve’s shoulders untense. "I see." He's maybe read a few too many medical journal articles since Bucky told him on Monday that he'd been on suppressants. "Good. That's ... good."
The doctor hums and looks back down, examining Bucky for another long moment before humming in approval and removing the speculum. Bucky’s back slumps and he makes another tiny noise—this time one of relief. “Is it over?”
The doctor pats his hip with an approving nod. “He’s a healthy boy. Nothing to indicate any lasting effects from the medication.” Over Bucky’s back, he meets Steve’s eyes again. “The risk for complications doesn’t go up very high until after the five year mark. We’ll wait on his bloodwork, but I expect it’ll all come back normal.”
“Oh, good.” Steve can’t help but be relieved. He’s definitely read too many articles, seen too many students come through the school's infirmary with much more serious side effects. “So no chance of infertility?”
“Very low,” the doctor reassures, even as Bucky makes a hurt little sound of concern over hearing that possibility. The doctor rolls his stool out from behind Bucky, pulling off his exam gloves and tossing them in the waste bin. “Nope. He looks perfectly normal, Headmaster, both inside and out. From the state of things I’d say he’s about midway through his cycle. So you can expect a heat within the next two weeks.”
Steve nods. “Yes, he reported as much. He's used an app for tracking on his phone.”
“Oh. Would you email that data?” The doctor is already standing and heading for the curtain that divides their little area from the rest of the room. “It’ll be good to have in his records.”
“Sure thing. Thanks, doc.”
“Of course.” At the edge of the exam area, he looks back at Steve. “Ahm … he’s fairly aroused right now.”
Steve smirks. “I know.”
“Right.” The doctor glances back at Bucky, then to Steve. “I can send one of the nurses in, if you have anywhere to be.”
Steve shakes his head and dismisses the man. “That’s alright. He’s mine for the evening. I’ll handle it.”
Reassured, the doctor nods and ducks out around the curtain. He’s barely gone for a second before Bucky’s shifting in place on the table. “Um, Mr. Rogers?”
Steve looks back down. Bucky is blinking at him, flustered and uncertain. Steve pats his shoulder. “You did really well, Bucky.” He stands up and goes behind him, over to the room’s glove dispenser. He pulls out one of the large sized nitrile gloves and pulls it on. “How’re you feeling?”
“Uhm. Okay.” Bucky can’t see him from his position, so he wiggles impatiently. “Can you help me to, erm, get off of here?”
“Hmm.” Steve walks over and sits on the doctor’s abandoned rolling stool. He rolls to Bucky’s side, popping into his field of vision and giving him a knowing look. “You sure you don’t want help with this first?” At ‘this’, he lets his gloved hand touch Bucky’s flank, edging closer to his exposed backside. He watches as the boy's eyes widen and his cheeks colors anew. “It’s okay to ask for help,” he reassures. “You don’t have to be embarrassed.”
“I’m not embarrassed,” Bucky lies.
Steve arches an eyebrow. “You sure? Masturbation isn’t allowed. Did you remember that rule? You need to ask the staff if you need release.”
Bucky huffs angrily. “Why not? Why do we have to ask you guys? Why can’t we just—”
Steve taps his ass lightly, more to get his attention than anything else. “Submission, Honey. We’ve been over this already. That’s what everything here comes back to: learning to depend on somebody who can take care of you and give you what you need. You have strong sexual urges, and that’s okay. It’s completely natural. But you need to learn to turn to your alpha to get your needs met., otherwise they never fully will be.”
Bucky pouts. “You’re not my alpha.”
“That collar around your neck says different. And so does the paperwork your parents signed.” Bucky's face twists into a frustrated moue, stubborn little thing. Steve sighs. “Hey, I know you didn't choose this. I’m your official alpha right now, but one day you’ll find someone you actually want to be with, someone you want to marry and have a family with. All these rules you're learning are just to help you adopt healthy habits. So you can model correct relationship patterns.”
"I already do."
Steve snorts. "Honey, casually sleeping with 'thirty-something' people by your age is not a healthy relationship pattern."
"You just want us all to be lily white virgins."
Steve rolls his eyes as he rolls the stool farther back towards Bucky’s backside. "Certainly not. But hookup culture only serves irresponsible alphas and betas. It doesn't do anything to help you guys with your needs for bonding hormones."
"Another scientific study?" Bucky sneers.
"You got it." Steve looks down, a quick glance showing him what he already knew he’d find: a wet and swollen, little pink rim, clenching hard on nothing. He tuts sympathetically. "Oof. That looks painful."
“Hey, don’t … don’t look,” Bucky complains.
“Oh, hush.” Steve pats his butt—he really does have the sweetest little ass. “You’re very beautiful, Bucky. Every part of you is.”
That, right there, is Steve stepping over the line. Oh, he’s got no qualms about personally appreciating the form of an attractive young omega student, it’s only natural for him to find Bucky beautiful. What’s less appropriate is him commenting on it. Because, to be blunt, not every student in Steve’s care is traditionally attractive. Steve’s still responsible for helping them all equally, and thus it’s always been his policy to avoid complimenting students on their looks when possible. It avoids hurt feelings, subverts any competition between the students who are more naturally prone to jealousy over their shared Alpha headmaster.
But the words are out of his mouth before he can think better of it, and Bucky reacts obviously in the way that he flushes and squirms, instinctively pleased at being approved of in such a way. Steve decides that, since it’s just the two of them alone, he might as well let his guard down a little bit. Bucky’s shown a propensity for skewed thinking, after all, and he needs to be helped to form a positive self image. “You’ve got a lovely body, Buck. Even here.” At ‘here’, he lets his thumb dip a little further into his crack, not touching his hole, but pulling his cheek out enough to get a really good look at the sweet little clench of his rim. Steve hums appreciatively. “Just like the doc said: very healthy.”
Bucky whines and squirms. “Let me up.”
“I can do that. But you’re very wet, Honey.” Steve reaches down between Bucky's legs to glance fingers over his stiff little prick. “And hard.”
“Nnn.”
“You’re not going to have a very pleasant evening if I leave you like this. Are you sure you don’t want some relief?”
Bucky’s body stays tensed, his asshole blurting out more slick from Steve’s hand touching him even just that little bit. He seems to consider it as a real option for a moment, waffling over his decision, but eventually gets out a terse little, “No,” forcing himself to ignore what his body needs. “I don’t.”
“Really?”
“I don’t want you to do it,” he grits.
Steve sighs, not too surprised by that. Bucky’s still resentful of the one person who has complete authority over him. Steve'll probably be the last person he yields to. That’s the way it often goes with the bullheaded kids: they come around to their teachers first, Handlers second, and submit to Steve as their alpha last of all. It’s to be expected, but Steve can’t say he isn’t more disappointed than usual, in this case.
Because he isn't lying to the kid just to improve his self esteem: Bucky really is uncommonly beautiful. A handsome, small but strong boy who is exactly Steve’s preferred type when it comes to omegas. And his scent is … Well, all omegas smell lovely, but Bucky's scent is unusually fascinating.
Ever since that first day in Steve's office, when he'd submitted with such an easily provoked release, Steve’s wanted to get a better sense of him. This would have been the perfect chance to do that. Steve would’ve relished the chance to coax an orgasm out of him today, but if Bucky needs more time to truly relax into it, then he's willing to wait. Not like there won’t be plenty of opportunities in the future, once the boy's sexual urges have built up enough to have him eagerly submitting.
Steve closes his eyes and takes one last, indulgent inhale of that spiced, floral scent that’s only made stronger by the arousal. Viburnum, he realizes. That’s what it reminds him of. It clings to the edges of the earthy undertones of Bucky's scent, enhancing it to something truly alluring. Regretfully, Steve pats his hip and rolls away on the stool. “Okay,” he says, trying not to let the disappointment come through in his voice. “That’s alright, Sweetheart. I’ll have the nurse sent in to help you.”
“What? No.” Bucky twists his head in the restraints once again to look back at Steve where he’s removing the medical glove and standing up. His eyes widen when he sees the blue glove going into the waste bin, not having realized that Steve had donned it, having literally been prepared to finger him to orgasm. His mouth works helplessly for a moment, open and shut in a loss for words. “I don’t want anybody to do it.”
Steve walks back around in front of him and crouches down to his level, fixing him with a doubtful look. “Well that’s your choice, Honey. But you still won’t be allowed to touch yourself, you do realize that? If you change your mind after lights out tonight, then you’ll have to wait all the way until tomorrow morning to get a staff member to give you any relief.”
Bucky pretends to be unaffected, but Steve can see the brief flash of panic in the boy’s eyes at the prospect of going that much longer without an orgasm. “Fine,” he says, putting on a brave face. “I don’t care.”
Steve isn’t a fool. He knows that Bucky is almost certainly planning to break the rules and touch himself at the first available opportunity. Still, some lessons can’t be taught until mistakes are made and bad behavior corrected, so Steve nods and stands up to start unbuckling the bench’s restraints. “Okay, your choice, bud."
Bucky climbs off the bench once he’s able to, and Steve hands him his underwear to put on. His little prick is completely erect as he hurriedly pushes the uniform’s skirt back down, and he winces in discomfort as he pulls up the two layers of his underwear and gets them into place on his oversensitive body. “Ugh,” he huffs quietly. “Stupid.”
Steve chuckles, though he honestly feels more pity for the kid than anything. Bucky’s regret over having turned down an orgasm is so obvious it’s near palpable, his scent still rich with arousal. And just like Steve knows without a doubt that the back of the boy's underwear is already getting a wet spot, he also knows that he'll be checking the dormitory’s security feed later that night. With the level of certainty he has over Bucky’s plans to break the rules and touch himself, Steve figures he might as well start planning out what corrective measures they’ll inevitably be instituting as punishment.
“Come on,” he says, putting an arm around the kid’s shoulders and guiding him out of the room. “It’s dinner time. You must be getting hungry.”
Bucky says that he isn’t, but his stomach betrays him by growling loudly not two seconds after.

I looked up the oldest (tagged) Sol Badguy fanfiction on ff.net last night and they were as follows:
2001: First person from Sol's perspective. He gets very angry and makes out with Ky.
2002: First person from either Sol or Ky's perspective. I didn't read far enough to find out. Sol romantically makes out with Ky. This fic is so old they use the Japanese name for the Sacred Order of Holy Knights because it hadn't been localized into English yet.
2003: Third person perspective and based/inspired by a Japanese pop song. Sol makes out with Ky.
Each of these was by a different author.
The 4th oldest Sol Badguy fanfiction on FanFiction dot Net was also from 2003. It is also Sol/Ky.
5th story doesn't have a ship. 6th story has Sol/I-No. These two are both from 2003. 7th story is from 2004 (no ship).
The 8th story is from 2005. It is yet another Sol/Ky story.
Story 9 does not have a ship.
The 10th oldest story, still in 2005, is Sol/Ky.
The 4 non-Sol/Ky stories were written by the same person. The other 6 were written by a different author each.
Unrelated to Sol Badguy stories, there are more stories written for Kliff, S'Ko, That Man, ABA, Dr. Paradigm, Gabriel, Megumi, and Sharon than there are for Johnny. The longest overall Guilty Gear fanfiction on here is 346,645 words. The shortest is 118. The oldest fic was first published Apr 28, 2001 (it's Sol/Ky). English is the most popular language used for GG fic (540 works), followed by Spanish with 15 stories and French with 8. As of Oct. 20,'23, there are 568 Guilty Gear fan works on ff.net.

54 sentences added to take away the glass:
[NON-GRAPHIC DISCUSSION OF PAST SEXUAL ABUSE]
"Or, if it was me with Keeley. And Keeley felt like that sometimes, 'cause of something I was doing to her, only she didn't never tell me so I just kept doing it and making her feel like that… Rather wouldn't have sex with her at all, honestly. So I gotta know so I can be able to tell her. Or, you know. Whoever. 'Cause they wouldn't want to do it." Dr. Sharon smiles slightly. She takes a moment to stare at Jamie with a gentle sort of amusement that Jamie gets from Keeley and his mum all the time and used to get from Ted too, sometimes. Then she gives Jamie a slightly more pointed look and points out, "And you said you and she haven't been having much sex since that talk?" "Yeah," Jamie confirms. She stares at him some more, waiting for him to figure something out. He stares back, waiting for the same thing. "...Oh. Well," Jamie throws up his hands, "how am I supposed to ever figure it out then?" "Do you really need to?" Dr. Sharon asks. Jamie glares and opens his mouth, irritated to have to repeat himself which she usually doesn't make him do. But she shakes her head slightly to let him know she's not quite done asking. "Are you interested in having sex with other people?" "No," Jamie says, and then immediately feels like a liar for some reason. "Rather, are you interested in having more one night stands or other casual, short-term affairs," Dr. Sharon clarifies, apparently seeing something conflicted in Jamie's face. Right good at her job, Dr. Sharon is. "No," Jamie says, and that feels much better. "In that case, does it not seem redundant to go out of your way to find out what your sex-related triggers are with Ms. Jones when presumably the only person you need to be prepared to have informed discussions of the topic with is Ms. Jones herself?" She pauses there to let Jamie parse through her point. He supposes she's kind of right. There wouldn't really be any difference between finding something Jamie doesn't like on purpose and talking about how not to do it again versus finding it by accident and having the same talk. Still… Something rubs Jamie the wrong way. "I should know," he repeats, helpless and grouchy. Dr. Sharon makes another considering noise. "Are you concerned that Ms. Jones wants to end her sexual relationship with you?" she asks. "No," Jamie answers, and it's surprisingly easy. Their first go around he wasn't worried about it then either, but out of hubris. Then for a while he was a bit worried she wouldn't want to even be his friend, and then when they started up again this time he figured for a while he might just be a rebound to her. But he's confident now, more confident than he'd even realized. They have a real grown-up relationship now, one like what Mummy and Simon have. It's mental. In a good way. "Then I don't see any practical reason for you to actively seek out this information." She pauses, tilts her head in that way that means she wants him to try some eye contact with her, to really hear her and take her seriously. "Jamie. You don't have to be ready to have sex with anyone who might be interested." "Yeah, I know that," Jamie mutters petulantly. "I know what consent is." "Of course I'd trust you to know that about yourself better than I do," Dr. Sharon agrees easily, sitting back again. "But sometimes it's helpful to hear these things said out loud, especially by an uninvolved party. And I think it's relevant here to point out that you're allowed not only to say no, but also to be unable to say yes." Jamie doesn't ask what the difference is, even though he kind of wants to just to be difficult. He's pretty sure he gets it. He's also pretty sure it's not gonna sink in properly in just this visit. Still, he's here for a reason, and it can't hurt. "...say it again?" Dr. Sharon smiles. "You don't have to have sex with anyone, Jamie."
