Halloween
Charlie Gillespie x Reader
Word Count: 2,097
A/N: I know I haven’t written in a while but this might be my favorite one I’ve written so far. I changed it a bit since misread “bedroom” but I hope you like either way
—————————————————————————
Halloween. The spookiest time of the year. However, for you this was the most wonderful time of the year. Your boyfriend was currently filming the first season of his new show, Julie and the Phantoms.
Halloween is your favorite day of the year and it sucks that you’re supposed to spend it far away from him. You decided to book a flight last minute to surprise him. The only person you told was his roommate and best friend, Owen.
“He’s going to be so excited to see you. He won’t shut about you and hopefully this will stop him for a little while,” Owen says over the phone.
“Haha iI can’t wait to see him and I especially can’t wait to finally meet you in person.” You and Owen have been talking a lot ever since he answered Charlie’s phone when FaceTiming and after Charlie found his phone, you and him exchanged numbers.
“I know FaceTime’s fun and all but now we can bully Charlie together in person” He replies.
“Hey remember he’s still my boyfriend. I can’t be mean to him all the time. I call you when my plane lands, okay?”
“Alright I’ll see you then. But (Y/N)!”
“Bye Owen!”
After what feels like ages you board the plane and a then after 8 hours and 1 stop you finally make it to Vancouver. You take a few moments to collect yourself and then call Owen to let him know you’re here. You grab your stuff from the baggage claim and grab a coffee from Tim Norton’s for a pick me up. Sitting on a plane for a full work shift can really drain the energy out of a person.
It doesn’t take long for you to hear someone call out your name.
“Y/N)!!! Over here!” You turn around and see Owen standing there and you run over and give him a hug.
“Owen! Oh my god!” After a minute you let go and he can’t help but grin at the big smile on your face, the face that Charlie won’t stop talking about. He never misses a moment to tell his co stars about how gorgeous you are and how much he loves your smile.
“Okay so I’m thinking we stop by the apartment and drop your stuff off and then head to set. We’re in the middle of filming but I may have asked Kenny if I could take a break to get something to eat.” You chuckle at that before answering.
“Actually I was wondering if we could just go right to set. I can’t spend another minute without Charlie.”
“Good. I can. So please take him from me.”
You laugh at that and spend the entire car ride counting the moments till you see your boyfriend again.
Owen parks the car and you don’t spare a moment jumping out of the car and running towards the closest door before realizing you have no idea where you're going. You stop and turn waiting for Owen.
“C'mon let’s head to the main stage. That's where they were when I left.” You follow Owen to a group of people.
“Hey guys have you seen Charlie anywhere?”
“No why?”
“This is his girlfriend, (Y/N)! She’s surprising him.”
“Oh my gosh! You’re (Y/N)? He’s going to be so excited. He never shuts up about you!” A girl with long blonde hair says.
“Yeah he might explode,” A guy wearing a leather jacket replies.
“Yeah I’m sorry about that. Hopefully it’s all good things.”
“Definitely. That boy is 100% in love with you. I’m Savannah.”
“And I’m Jeremy”
“The third phantom and Carrie right? He talks about you guys all the time too”
“Well this is fun but we need to go find Charlie before he sees you first.” Owen drags me in a different direction. You wave to Savannah and Jeremy hoping to talk to them more.
You see that you end up at Charlie’s trailer and Owen knocks on the door.
“Coming!” You hear on the other side and your heart leaps. It’s him. Owen pushes you behind him.
“Owen! Where’d you go running off to? That was a king lunch, dude.”
“Oh you know just out.”
“Well it must’ve been good enough for Kenny to stop production until you got back. All that was left was your stuff with BooBoo. Mads is getting here soon.” You start to feel bad for causing them to stop filming.
“Oh believe me it was. I have a surprise for you.”
“Please! No more dead birds!”
“No it’s good I swear! Close your eyes”
“I don’t wanna-!”
“CLOSE YOUR EYES!”
“Fine!” Charlie closes his eyes and Owen pushes you right in front him.
“Okay...Open!”
Charlie opens his eyes expecting something gross but is completely in awe of the view in front of him.
“Wait…(Y/N)? How are you even here right now? What? How? I don’t even know what to say!”
“Just kiss me you dork.” He doesn’t say anything just wraps you in his arms and gives you the biggest kiss possible. You kiss him back and just soak in the moment of you two. It feels like there’s no one else around and forget about where you are.
“Okay...I’m going to go leave and find Kenny.”
Charlie lets go and just stares at you in shock. “That son of a bitch went to the airport didn’t he?” You just nod chuckling to yourself. “I’m sorry but oh my god. I can’t believe your standing here right now.”
“Neither can I. Last week I was missing you so much and Owen convinced me to get a ticket.”
“Well you came just in time. We’re having a Halloween party tomorrow night and now you can come! Everyone’s going to be so excited. You’re all I can talk about.”
“So I’ve heard. I better live up to the expectations huh?”
“You already are just by being you...God I love you.” He kisses you again.
You spend the rest of the day watching him film scenes and meeting the rest of the cast. They were all so nice and welcoming. You kinda regret leaving your stuff in Owens truck but you had to Charlie to help you unpack so it didn’t take too long. After that the three of you went out for dinner and then cuddled with Charlie the rest of the night Because of the party everyone had a later call time. This meant more time with Charlie.
The next morning you woke up to an empty bed but a noisy apartment. You walk out of the room to see Charlie and Owen arguing over a pan of burnt eggs.”
“Good morning, old married couple. What’s going on? It’s too early for this shit.”
“I’m sorry, (Y/N), but SOMEBODY decided to let the breakfast I was making you burn.”
“How is this my fault?”
“I asked you to watch over it while I went to the bathroom and I came back out to you going live and not even paying attention.”
“Well sorry I got distracted but you were in there a long time.”
“It wasn’t that king oh my god!”
“Boys!! Stop arguing,” You walk up behind Charlie to give him a hug, “It’s okay. Thank you for the breakfast, baby.”
“I’m sorry for him over there. It would’ve been amazing.”
“Amazing or Charlie amazing. I saw the peanut butter out?” Owen says staring at Charlie.
“Oh...maybe it was a good thing they got ruined. You eat some weird food babe.”
“Hey! Who’s side are you on?” Charlie says low key offended but he can’t stay mad too long. “Whatever, we'll just get Starbucks or something. Are you coming to set babe?”
“I was actually thinking about going to the store to find a last minute costume. What are you going as?”
“It’s gonna be a surprise. We’re not telling anyone.”
“We?”
“Yeah. Jer, Charlie, and I are gonna match.” Owen replies.
“Oh god. I hope it wasn’t Charlie’s idea.”
“What is this? Pick on Charlie day?”
“No it’s Halloween! Best day of the year. Tomorrow is Pick on Charlie Day.” You laugh at Owen.
“Which reminds me I have to go to get a good costume.” You go back to Charlie’s room to get dressed before saying goodbye to the two idiots.
“I’ll see you later! Bye I love you!”
“I love you too!” Owen yells back.
“She was talking to me. Love you!”
“I don’t think so. She loves me more.” You hear them start to argue again and you leave quickly.
At the store you find a cute Lilo costume that there was one left of. You also buy a Scrump backpack and a little Stitch plush to carry with you (plus that fits in the bag so your hands don’t get tired. Spirit Halloween really has it all.
Charlie said to get to set around 6 and gives you the address of the school around 6 since that’s when they were supposed to done filming. You go through the door you and Owen walked through the day before. You start following the decorations until you get to the Cafeteria. You start to recognize people from yesterday. You see Sav is Kim Possible. Madison as the devil and Jadah as an angel. Sacha was also a devil. You look around but don’t see the three boys. You haven’t known Jeremy long but if he is willing to along with Charlie and Owens' plan he must be just as big as a doofus as them. After about 20 minutes you go to find a bathroom.
You look in the mirror fixing your dress and we’re fixing your eyeliner until the light turns off. You look around confused, feeling your way around. You got close to the light and feel a person.
“Hello?” You whisper.
You just hear footsteps walking slowly toward you.
“This is it. This is when I die.” You think to yourself. You walk backwards before feeling another body behind you.
You close your eyes to accept fate before seeing some light against your eyelids.
You open your eyes and see three scary ass looking clowns in front of you. You scream and run out the door. You take a moment against the hallway wall before realizing there were three people missing in the party. You wait hoping they would walk out soon. You see the door open and see one of the boys step out. Not caring which one it was you walk up against the door so they couldn’t see you. When you see his face you yell, “BOO!”
The clown screams and runs out pulling the rest of them behind him.
“Not so fun is it?” You let yourself be seen.
“I’m sorry (Y/N). I didn’t think that Owen was going to turn out the lights.” Charlie said walking slowly up to her.
“You wanted to scare her. It’s a small room and there's not many options.”
“Still I’m so sorry.”
“I actually thought I was going to die. I’ve never been more terrified in my life. Why would you do that?”
“I thought it would be funny.”
“Funny to watch your girlfriend terrified is it?”
“(Y/N)...I don’t know how to be anymore sorry.”
“Yeah we're really sorry.” Jer says hoping to calm the situation down.
“Yeah really sorry.” He was going to say something sarcastic but saw how traumatized you actually looked.
“It’s okay. I mean it is Halloween. I should have expected something like this from the three of you.”
Charlie walks the rest of the way to you and gives you a hug and kisses you on the head. He feels you calm down and says “You look really cute.”
“Thanks you don’t at all but it’s okay.”
“Hey you said Pick on Charlie day was tomorrow.” You smile before pulling away from Charlie and yell “Hey Owen!”
“Yeah?”
“Charlie just agreed to tomorrow being Pick on Charlie Day!”
“He did? Cmon lets tell everyone!” You run after him back to the cafeteria.
“Wait no I didn’t!!! (Y/N)! OWEN!!” Charlie just shakes his head knowing it wouldn’t do anything.
Later that night everyone got a text saying this:
This is your healthy reminder that 11/1 is now officially Pick on Charlie day! To celebrate, please spend the whole day picking on Charlie Gillespie. I hope you have a wonderful holiday.
Let’s just say when the next year came around, the fans had a field day and Charlie was not a happy camper.

CHAPTER 2 ~ cowboy bebop & chill
You couldn't stop thinking about Jungkook. Every time you brought the enamel of your favorite mug to your lips, teeth knocking the rim as you exhaled to cool off your tea, it called back the click of his earrings in your mouth. Whenever you reached behind your ear to tuck away the hair you'd impulsively cropped to your chin this year, it hit the same spot you'd sucked into a bruise on his neck and you shivered. Even your slight headache thanks to the shitty vodka from the pregame reminded you of the wine you'd sought out from him in the first place and never fucking got to drink.
You found yourself reading over your responses to each other's discussion posts from your film class, trying to find any more justification for this sudden crush than the drunken flirtation that mortified you as soon as you remembered it sober. He did seem to like your directness...but you could easily ascribe that to his similarly loosened-up state. Scanning through your reflections on The Shawshank Redemption and Casablanca, you painstakingly overanalyzed every smiley face and "I loved that part too!" Could he have been into you at all before this? Or had he just eyed you for another quick fuck at a party? Shit, what if he hated you for working him up and then leaving? If he wanted to, you knew he would have easily found someone else to finish the night with. But what if he still held it against you? The image of him bitterly turning aside to find another girl in the crowd, with your hickey still fresh on his jaw, turned your stomach more than you wanted to admit.
Shaking your head with a grounding exhale, you reminded yourself that whoever else he did or didn't hook up with was none of your business. Plus, he seemed like a genuinely nice guy and probably didn't hate you in the first place. Wow, the bar really was so fucking low. Maybe that was part of the reason you were never that bold with boys. Every classmate you'd fallen for so far at college had remained innocently unaware of your feelings, likely because you never worked up the courage to clearly express them. You hadn't even been trying this time, though—this semester had been so busy you'd barely had time for your friends, much less crushes. And now your one blowoff class had become your biggest distraction.
Jungkook, a communications & media major, couldn't afford to lose as much focus in this class as you. Normally near front-and-center, he sat all the way in the corner of the last row, wary of imaginary stares burning through the hopefully-opaque-enough curtain of his hair. Even the risk of zoning out staring at the back of your head stressed him out less than the thought of you doing the same to him.
You walked into class through the back right entrance today so you'd pass Jungkook in the front row, though you could have gone straight to your usual left-side seat from the main door. Knowing you'd never summon the courage to talk to him, you still couldn't help wanting to see his face. You didn't know just what you were looking for—some kind of confirmation or dismissal that would let you just move on with your dry-ass life—but any reason to catch a glimpse of Jungkook was a good one. Today, though, he sat far closer to the entrance than you'd expected, and his proximity stopped you in your tracks a few feet behind him. Eyes dragging down the sculpted form under his soft black sweatsuit, your stare traced the veins in his forearms to reach the hands in his lap. Catching a half-page cartoon ass in your view of the manga he gazed at intently, a snort-laugh escaped you, the sound setting him on high alert. He snapped the book shut, spinning around with eyes wide and still-long hair an understandable mess for a Monday.
"I'm so—"
"I'm so sorry!"
You both shoved out the words at the same time.
A pause swelled between you, eye contact maintained as your mouths fluttered open and shut like fish. Even awkward and off-guard like this, he was just so damn pretty. It felt unreasonable for him to seem as flustered around you as you were around him. Finally, you spoke again, solely to force the conversation forward and put you both out of your misery.
"W-what do you have to be sorry for? I'm the one who, like—ugh, I was drunk, I'm so sorry, I never would have been so, yknow, if I was sober, like that's not me I promise, I really didn't mean to make you uncomfortable or—"
"No-no-no-no-no!" Jungkook cut you off, dismissing your barely intelligible apology. Before you could cut him off in return and continue, he held up both hands between you, his eyebrows knit together in a pleading expression. "Are you kidding me? Seriously, I feel so bad, I was kind of drunk too, I hope I didn't make you uncomfortable! Please, you have nothing to worry about, it was, uh...I was...good...if...you were." He grew shyer as he continued, drifting off as a hand reached back to rub his neck. A light laugh. "You did make me have to keep my hair long for another few days, though. It's gotten so annoying to take care of, I was planning on cutting it right after the costume."
This admission perked up all your earlier curiosities about him, and a cautious smile spread over your face as Jungkook unconsciously reminded you that he was, in fact, a total dork, rather than the fuckboy you'd irrationally feared him to be.
"Wait, hold up," you snorted again. Gently. "You're telling me you grew out your hair for three, maybe four, months...for a Cowboy Bebop costume?"
"Hey, it was free and way less lame than a wig," he defended himself. Crossing his arms over his chest, he fidgeted uncomfortably, face blushing into a grin as you continued to giggle at him.
"You are such a fucking weeb," you accused lightheartedly.
Jungkook furrowed his brows back together, an anxious hand grazing the spot where you'd marked him again. "Well, you recognized my Spike costume, at least," he pouted. "You're not all innocent."
"I watched one episode with my friend, and it was dubbed," you downplayed. "Isn't watching dubs instead of subs a crime for real anime fans?"
"Actually," his eyes lit up at your rhetorical question. "The dub of Cowboy Bebop is excellent. It's pretty universally considered better than watching the OG with subs. You're right though, that is the general rule."
"Oh man, who knew." Looking down, grinning, you tried to hide how endeared you were by his earnestness. "Well, it was pretty cool, not gonna lie. I guess I kind of get the appeal."
"Would you want to start watching the rest sometime? That's one I just never get tired of," he blurted, then blushed, closing his mouth and working his lips between his teeth as his eyes stayed wide and on you. Jungkook's heart accelerated in his chest, a fist opening and closing at his hip as he tried to decide whether he regretted taking a chance on the question.
You instantly diverted all your mental energy from hoping he couldn't sense your attraction to massively overthinking your response. This was a "Netflix and chill" kind of invite, right? If he wanted you, of course you wanted him, but you had to be sure before you did something else stupid and risked having to find another discussion board buddy.
"Um...yeah, sure," you accepted. "I have to ask, though, do you mean, like...Cowboy Bebop and chill?" You raised an eyebrow, trying to look bolder than you felt. "Or...Cowboy Bebop and just...Cowboy Bebop?"
"I..." Mirroring your playful grin, Jungkook shrugged, not wanting to look like a fuckboy if he answered with the first option but also wondering—were you actually interested in watching this anime with him? The possibility puzzled him, the same way it confused you how he could go bold and then back to his shy weeb-ass self within seconds. You shrugged too, with an anxious exhale of a laugh.
"That was...weird to just say like that, sorry. We can just see where it goes, whatever you want," you backtracked, full of faux-nonchalance. The Google Calendar schedule on your phone suddenly became very interesting. "We could do another day if that works for you, but I'm free after this class once I write my discussion post—I don't have any other homework or meetings today for once."
He nodded quickly, eyebrows up. Swallowing, Jungkook saw the opportunity to show a little more initiative and seized it. "We could do that together even, 'cause we usually jump off each other anyway. So you can come over right after class if you want." He glanced up and to the left for a quick mental inventory. "Oh shit, wait, but I seriously need to clean my apartment first, can we do more like dinner time tonight? You can just come over for ramen or takeout if you want, or eat first or whatever."
"Yeah, that's fine!" you agreed warmly. "Ramen and homework, two birds with one scone. I should probably, like...get your number? So you can send me your address when you're ready or something?" You didn't want to sound too desperate, especially since you knew he was used to it, but you found yourself weirdly excited to experience something he so obviously loved. If you got dicked down too, even better, but you were definitely willing to wait on that part, especially now that this first sober conversation had restored your inhibitions. He had this slightly shy sweetness about him that just made you want to make him happy somehow. You wanted to see more of his cheesy little smile. You wanted to hear the bright laugh that occasionally rang out at the most inappropriate times, during Citizen Kane or attendance. You wanted to watch his light pink lips fall open in bliss as you kissed down his sensitive neck to the trim of his worn-in hoodie...
"Yeah sure, here." The quick touch of his hand over yours snapped you out of your thoughts as he took your phone, ready to type in his number, and—
"Wait, did you say 'two birds with one scone'? Not 'one stone'?"
You blushed furiously. Somehow him calling you out on your quirks embarrassed you more than the indecent daydream he'd interrupted. "Okay, so I saw this tweet a while back where they said 'feed two birds with one scone' to replace 'kill two birds with one stone,' I think it was just some vegan troll being all like 'don't talk about killing birds!' but it stuck with me because I just really fucking love scones."
"You...really fucking love scones?" he repeated in slight sarcasm, eyes down on your phone. You grew even shyer, but continued.
"Yeah, I bake a lot and they're my favorite thing to make. The flavor possibilities are endless and they last for days so I just keep them on hand for breakfast and snacks and to give out to friends. And they go with tea, which is my other favorite thing." Ooh, was he a tea person? Should you bring some tonight? Something earthy, to go with your ramen. Your go-to green sencha, or maybe chrysanthemum? Chamomile?
Jungkook held your phone back out in front of you, but waited silently for you to notice, enjoying the view of wheels turning in your head as you pondered tea pairings. This was the you he was used to, daydreaming in class and going on tangents as dorky as his in discussions. Even from a distance, he'd noticed you consistently gave off a vibe somewhere between absentminded professor and grandma, and this confirmation made you even cuter to him. But the hair still falling over his ears wouldn't let him forget his new physical proof of another side to you.
You finally collected your phone with a mumbly "Oh right, yeah, cool, thanks," that you prayed sounded more chill to him than it did to you.
"I just texted myself, so I have your number too now, and I'll just send you my address when I'm ready, and, uh...yeah!" he rambled a bit in response.
You nodded, confirming. "I'll see you tonight!"
"Yeah, see you tonight."
Jungkook watched you walk to your desk, silently admiring your ass and allowing himself only a moment to savor the memory of half of it filling his hand. A strange nervousness tingled through him. He hadn't been able to stop thinking about you all weekend either, and now he had a chance to get closer to you than ever before. He hoped, more than he could remember hoping for anything else, that this would go well, one way or another. He had no idea what you wanted with him, but you had him questioning everything he'd thought he wanted. Easing open his laptop, he pulled up your last discussion board response to him, signed off with a smiley face but backwards.
I like the way you think. (:
He turned his head to read it right-side-up, letting his face scrunch into a smile you wouldn't see.
Meanwhile, though the film thrilled you, you struggled to stay facing forward for the duration of class. You suspected the plot of Rear Window was simply unsettling you, but you swore you could feel Jungkook's eyes on your back. No, he was probably actually watching the movie as usual, or reading his manga if not. You were definitely just being paranoid. Definitely. Probably. Right?

Word count: 2140
Warnings: Swearing, there’s some but I don’t think I made Dustin swear enough. Oops.
Tumblr media
“Dusty!” you call to your little brother, who is getting dressed for the snow ball. “Harrington is here!”
“Give me a goddamn minute!” he hollers back.
“Language!” mom joins in on the yelling.
“Dumb ass,” you laugh quietly as he walks into the kitchen. “But don’t you look handsome,” you smile down at him and push a rogue curl out of his face.
“Can you ride with?” he looks up at you, there's a vulnerability in his voice that you’ve never heard before. His eyes are huge and giving you the puppy dog look, he’s trying to use humor to hide his nerves.
“King Steve is taking you,” you frown. “Why would you want little old me getting in the way of your bromance?”
“Because you’re my big sister,” he admits quietly. “Plus I want a girl’s opinion.”
Every part of you wanted to say no, to just send him off with Harrington so you could change into pajamas and watch TV with your mother. But you also heard the bad advice that Steve gave him to ignore Max and be borderline rude to her.
“Fine,” you sigh, grabbing your coat that's draped over the back of one of the kitchen chairs.
“Thank you,” he cheers throwing his arms around your midsection.
“Mom, I’m taking Dustin to the dance,” you inform her as you walk through the living room to get to the front door.
“I thought that Harrington boy was taking him,” she frowns at you, from her seat on the couch.
“He is,” you sigh and slip your coat on before zipping it up.
“I asked her to go with for the ride,” Dustin walks up behind you. “She’ll probably go do something with Steve until it's time to pick me up.”
“I never agreed to that,” you hiss at him.
“You just did,” he grins grabbing your hand and pulling you towards the door. “Bye mom!” he calls over his shoulder.
“Henderson, Henderson number two,” Steve greets the two of you as you head towards his car.
Dustin shoves you the passenger's seat door, as he heads to the back of the car. You begrudgingly take the seat next to Steve “the hair” Harrington.
“Which one of us is Henderson number two?” you try to break the silence a few minutes into the ride.
“Dustin,” Steve takes one hand off of the wheel to run it through his hair. “He is the younger one,” he adds with a slight shrug.
“That’s bullshit!” Dustin calls from the back.
“Now now Dusty, watch your language,” you mimic your mom. Steve laughs at your imitation as Dustin flips you the bird. “Love you too little bro,” you laugh.
“Shit, shit, shit,” Dustin whispers to himself as Steve pulls up in front of the middle school.
“Hey,” you say softly, turning to face Dustin. “You’ll be a little heart-breaker in there. You look handsome, and you’re the sweetest guy I know. Once you get passed all of the swearing, that is.”
He smiles back at you, but you can practically hear him chanting shit in his head. “You have to say that,” he finally breaks the silence. “You’re my sister.”
“I don’t have to do anything Dusty, even if we’re related. I’m just telling you the truth.”
“So remember when you get in there,” Steve joins the conversation.
“Pretend I don’t care,” Dustin finishes.
“You don’t care,” Steve shakes his head.
“I don’t care,” Dustin repeats.
“There ya go, you’re learning my friend,” Steve smiles at him. “You’re learning.”
“Don’t listen to him,” you cut in.
“That’s great advice!” Steve defends.
“That’s terrible advice!” you squint your eyes at the driver. “Just be confident Dusty.”
Dustin leans forward, ignoring your arguing with Steve, adjusting the rear view mirror so he can check his hair and face.
“Hey,” Steve whines since Dustin is messing with the angle of the mirror. “You look great. Listen to your sister and me, we’re practically adults. We know this stuff by now. Now, you’re going to go in there, look like a million bucks, and you’re gonna slay em dead.”
“Like a lion,” Dustin agrees, before purring.
“Yeah, don’t do that,” Steve cringes slightly.
“C’mon (Y/N/N), back me up,” Dustin looks at you.
“Sorry kiddo,” you give him a slight smile. “I agree with Harrington for once.”
“Okay,” Dustin sighs. He gives the two of you one last look before heading into the dance. You both watch as he walks in and hands his ticket to Mr. Clarke.
“So what do you want to do now?” Steve asks, driving away.
“You can drop me off at home, I don’t want to impose on King Steve’s time,” you look down and twiddle your fingers.
“Or we can go get something to eat,” it almost sounds like there’s a hopeful lift to Steve’s voice. “I could really go for a milkshake.”
“Milkshakes sound good,” you agree quietly.
--
“I’ll have a chocolate milkshake and an order of fries please,” you smile up at the waiter.
“I’ll have the exact same,” Steve tell him. As the waiter walks away your booth is once again plagued in awkward silence. “So what do you want to do after graduation?” he asks.
“I’m not really sure,” you finally admit out-loud, it was eating away at you whenever your mom would talk about grades and graduation. “I always planned on going away to school, moving away from this town. But with everything that’s happened these past two years, there’s no way I can leave Dustin here. I’ll probably just get a job at the arcade or something. Save up enough money to move out eventually, or wait for some guy to notice me and we can start our nuclear family.”
“I’m sure Dustin would understand if you left,” Steve leans forward, and gently grabs your hand. “You clearly have so much love for him, but you need to do the things that you want to.”
“That’s easy for you to say,” you laugh humorlessly. “You, you’re set for life Harrington. You have the house, the money, any girl you could ever want-”
“They’re all interested in Billy now. Or Jonathan,” he sighs and looks at his hands.
“The point is, you have the luxury to be able to go off and find yourself, I don’t.”
“Money isn’t everything Henderson,” Steve’s brows furrow as he looks at you.
“Obviously not, I’m happy with next to none,” you you match his look. “But it does help in the long run. Plus you don’t have a little brother you would be abandoning.”
Before Steve can respond the waiter comes back with two milkshakes and a giant plate of fries. You thank him and immediately take a sip of your drink. The waiter winks at you before retreating to behind the diner counter. You miss the frown and glare Steve sends the man.
“What did happen between you two?” you sober up immediately and Steve chokes on his shake. “You don’t have to answer that! I was out of line-”
“So what about you?” you ask before biting into a fry. “What does post high school life look for King Steve?”
“Ya know, find a girl and start our very own nuclear family,” the two of you start to laugh. “Honestly? I have no idea. I was prepared to follow Nancy wherever she wanted to go, but we see how that turned out.”
“No, no, it’s fine,” he gives you a small smile. “Nancy and I were never really a good fit, especially because a part of her hated me because she blamed me for Barb.”
”But that’s not fair,” you frown at him. Dustin had filled you in and told you that Barb was sucked into the upside down through Steve’s pool. “You never wanted any of that to happen.”
“And,” Steve continues. “I let Tommy H. and Carol say some pretty bad things about both her and Jonathan, I don’t blame her for choosing him.”
“You should have stopped your friends, but you aren’t a complete asshole. You deserve to be happy too,” you dip a fry into your milkshake.
“So what about you?” Steve questions, shifting in his seat.
“What about me?” your brows furrow.
“Tell me about your love life woes,” he grins cheekily.
“Uh,” you play with the hem of your shirt and stare down at the shiny tabletop. “There’s not much to say, I don’t really have people interested in me.”
“That’s bull,” he jaw drops a little and his eyes slightly widen.
“Tommy H. and Carol used to spread rumors about me, but you already knew that. They said terrible things about my mom and how she was raising Dusty and me alone. They made fun of how I dressed, and the way I look. They even went as far as saying horrible things about Dustin,” your eyes start to water at the memories of their cruel words. Words that occasionally haunt your dreams, as stupid and weak as that may sound.
“I never knew it went that far,” Steve’s voice softens, as he reaches over to squeeze your hand that's once again sitting on the table. You pull your hand away from him and shrink back into the shiny vinyl seat.
“But you still knew they made fun of me, and you just watched,” you frown at Steve. “That’s just as bad as being the bully Harrington. I’m really glad that you have this strange friendship with Dustin. He needs an older guy to look up to, so don’t screw that up.”
“He’s a good kid,” Steve smiles at you. “He’s taught me quite a bit in the short time that I’ve known him. He’ll be a way better guy than I was in high school. And (Y/N), I’m sorry for everything that Tommy H. and Carol did to you. I should have stopped them, I just never had the guts.”
“Thanks Harrington, that actually means a lot.” you softly smile at him.
--
The rest of your time at the diner went by quickly as the two of you joked and told stories from your childhood. Maybe Harrington wasn’t as bad as you assumed he was. He was actually a total dork, and kind of nice.
Before you knew it, you were back in his car and speeding to the middle school to pick Dustin up. You were laughing at some lame joke that Steve had just told you as Dustin slips into the back.
“I see you two had a good time,” Dustin smiles, looking between the two teenagers in the front.
“Harrington took me to get milkshakes and fries, so it wasn’t completely horrendous,” you grin like an idiot.
“You liked my jokes, just admit it,” Steve grins back at you.
“They were terrible,” you start laughing.
“They weren’t that bad,” Steve murmurs as he starts to drive.
“So Dusty,” you turn to face your little brother. “How was the dance?”
“I got to dance with Nancy!” a huge grin splits his face. Dustin has had the biggest crush on Nancy Wheeler for years now. However, you can’t bring yourself to be too excited for him, because of the man driving the car. You turn to face Steve nervously, you expect to see a clenched jaw and a white knuckled grip on the wheel. But what you see shocks you, Steve is leaning back in his seat and he lets out a little laugh.
“Well I’m sure it was great practice for prom,” Steve grins at Dustin through the rearview mirror.
“Steve, you should take (Y/N) to prom,” Dustin smirks.
“What?” you choke on your spit.
“It’ll be fun,” Dustin wiggles his eyebrows at you.
“I’m not even going,” your eyebrows furrow as you stare at Dustin.
“Why the fuck not?” he matches your frown.
“First of all,” you give him a disapproving look. “I have no one to go with, and you can’t force Steve-”
“Steve huh?” Dustin’s eyes twinkle in humor at the change from Harrington to Steve.
“Am I really that bad?” Steve turns to face you as he pulls into your driveway, there’s hurt written across his features.
“No!” you insist. “I just don’t want you to be forced to go with me.”
“So you’re saying that if I asked you would say yes?”
“No, probably not-” Steve cuts you off.
“Because you hate me?” his frown deepens.
“I don’t hate you!” your voice starts to rise out of nerves. “I would totally go with you, but-”
“So it’s a date,” Steve shoots you a goofy grin.
“What just happened?” you wonder as Dustin laughs from the back. Steve grabs your hand and places a gentle kiss on it, before winking at you.
“I just got a date with a beautiful and intelligent girl,” he grins from ear to ear.

Her hand in his has Peter’s heart racing faster than any swing through Queens has ever given him.
It’s a bright day, and it’s cliche and ridiculous and crowded at Coney Island. The tickets were way too expensive, the colors of the bright pink cotton candy and the smell of candied nuts are overpowering, and all of it is an extremely bright contrast to MJ’s muted tones and grey jacket.
The shy, growing grin on her lips completely washes out the artificial colors, sounds, and smells around them.
Carefully, her fingertips brush his once more, and Peter can feel the hardened skin there that comes from the embroidery she recently revealed she enjoys. He catches his breath, moving his thumb to lightly brush the outside of their entwined hands. It’s her turn to inhale, and Peter casts her an amused look in response to the reaction.
The warm light of the sun, which is just beginning to set, sets her hair on fire as she turns her head to him, raising an eyebrow. Her lips part slightly as she glances away, but despite the flustered quirk to her lips, her eyes hold that same dry humor that he like so much.
“Something you want to share with the class, Peter?” she prompts, bumping her shoulder with his as they pass a family with a particularly large stroller and too many kids to really be paying attention.
“Nah, nah,” Peter says easily, unable to keep a teasing grin off his lips. “I’m good.”
“Well, according to the Sokovia Accords, you’re, like, a criminal. So if that’s your version of ‘good.’“ She raises her eyebrows at him, challenging, but the smile that has grown on his mouth is mirrored on her own.
“Yeah… I’m pretty sure this is my version of good,” Peter breathes, his hand squeezing her own slightly. Her mouth releases into a soft ‘o’ as their steps slow for a moment, his eyes locked on hers. Her torso shifts towards him slightly, and for a second they stop, causing a group of girls behind them to shoot Peter and MJ a look.
MJ doesn’t even glance their way. She is frozen, and for a moment so is he, just staring.
“Sorry,” he breathes, hand rising to rub the back of his neck.
“It’s okay.” Her face is sunshine and starlight and all of the cheesy things that Peter has ever read about in books… No. Those things aren’t MJ. Her smile is a gentle rain on the day that you feel like you’re crawling out of your skin, soothing and cool.
He hopes it never stops falling, that it pours down around him.
“So, uh… You said that you wanted to come here for a reason?” MJ continues walking, her hands moving to her pockets. Still, they maintain their proximity; her shoulder brushes his as they walk, and a few stray wisps of her hair tickle his cheek in the breeze.
“Yeah! Yeah,” Peter says quickly, brightening. “Um, I mean… It’s a pretty good people-watching spot.”
“Definitely,” MJ agrees, tipping her chin up to observe the crowd. “I’ve already seen, like, twelve people being pick-pocketed. It’s a good day.”
Peter grins, and he runs a hand through his hair as he tips his head to the side to watch her reacting. “Well… What about watching them from up above?”
MJ’s eyes widen, then narrow. “Wait, are we talking about spider-ing? Because, uh, nope. Not a fan, so…”
“Uh, no,” Peter says quickly, shaking his head. “No, no. I actually meant…” His gaze drifts over her shoulder to the ferris wheel, the iconic one with a ridiculously long line. Her eyes follow his to the Wonder Wheel, and a little grin drifts onto her lips as she glances back to him.
“You remembered.”
“Yeah.” He pauses, then reaches to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear so that it’s not drifting in her face. Her lips twitch as she looks at him, and for a moment the emotions on her face are more than just happiness. Then she’s leaning forward, and Peter can’t think straight because she’s just given him a quick peck on the cheek.
MJ doesn’t pause to acknowledge the gesture as she continues walking, her hand tugging his sleeve to turn him in the direction of the wheel. He can’t help the laughter that leaves him at her attempt to move past the moment.
“Wait, wait. What was that?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I was just making sure that that freckle behind your ear isn’t cancerous.”
“Cool. Verdict?”
“You’re totally gonna die in, like, three hours.”
“Sad day. At least we’ll be a quarter of the way through the line by then.”
Her stifled huff of amusement buoys him along on the summer afternoon, and so they continue on down the path to the iconic New York landmark.
The line isn’t bad, actually. It’s getting later, and a lot of park-goers are leaving to fetch dinner, particularly those with young children. The light is getting longer, and Peter and Michelle’s shadows are emaciated, willowy giants as they take their place in the line. Soon, golden sunlight has turned orange and coral, exploding across the landscape around them as they play stupid games to pass the time in line.
“Most likely to have a second family living in another country. Go.”
“Blue shirt, buying her kids the whole popcorn stand.”
Peter’s eyes find the woman MJ is referring to, contemplating her before nodding. “You had that answer ready really fast.”
“I can tell when someone only has one double life. Amateurs.” Peter grins in response to MJ’s quip, shaking his head as she searches her mind for a category. “Most likely to be part of a cult.”
“You.”
“Right answer. Now I have to either indoctrinate you or kill you. Your choice.”
Peter hums, thinking about it as he pulls their half-finished bag of roasted nuts from his pocket. “I think I choose indoctrination,” he decides, holding it out to her after taking a few for himself.
She does so without hesitation, popping one in her mouth as they take a few steps closer to the cars of the ferris wheel, tossing one of the nuts to a pigeon that is strutting a few feet away from them. The bird tips his head to the side in an angular movement, studying them before pecking once, then twice at the nut. It turns its head back to them, squawking once before it flaps away. The nut has been left behind.
“Ungrateful,” MJ muses. “I was trying to be environmentally friendly.”
“Is that what that was?”
“I’m nurturing Mother Earth, Peter. Don’t mock me.”
Peter grins, tucking away the rest of the remaining snack. “Noted.” Michelle watches him for a moment with the same scrutinizing gaze as the pigeon did. “I had fun today.”
“Me, too. I’m really glad you came.”
MJ opens her mouth to say something, but then the underpaid teen running the ride calls, “Hey. Are you getting on, or…?”
“Yeah, yeah,” Peter says quickly. MJ blinks and quickly turns, and the two get into the cream-colored car before the redheaded kid running the machine shuts the door with a little more force than necessary. Before either of them can say anything, the car is moving up to allow the next group of people in.
Michelle inhales, and then she lets out a deep breath as she peers out the window at the ocean and the beach. Peter spares the window a quick glance, and the fading pink sunset on the water is certainly a pretty sight. He likes the view from right here, though… The way that her eyes are dissecting the landscape below like those of a bird of prey. The intensity of her gaze is contrasted against the soft, violet light that is filtering into the car.
He thinks he could get used to this feeling of fireworks in his chest.
Someone brought sparklers to the beach below, and MJ is currently watching the sputtering lights from just above ground level. Peter imagines that when they are up high, they will shimmer and shine like scraps of tinfoil on the pavement below.
“You know, Ned and Betty almost died on a ferris wheel,” she mentions, her fingers relaxing on the caged windows.
“Eh, not really,” Peter says, trying for her nonchalant tone. “I mean, you’re the one who proved that one wrong.”
She glances at him over her shoulder, smiling slightly. “I did. Maybe I should be the one in the suit.”
“Mm.”
“What, are you saying that you don’t think I could kick someone’s ass?” MJ asks, turning her gaze to him. The same stare that caught him so off-guard in the opera house is one he’s getting used to, slowly but surely.
“No,” Peter says, shaking his head as he looks at her from across the car, suddenly a bit bashful now that they’re alone.
“I just think you could save more people as MJ than I ever could as Spider-Man.”
The car lurches as the ride begins moving; neither of them is prepared for it. MJ stiffens, and across the car she audibly catches her breath. At least that’s marginally less embarrassing than Peter’s reaction, which is to adhere himself to the sides with his fingertips.
MJ is amused as Peter’s cheeks heat up. “Maybe I should sit by you,” she suggests, her voice careful to stay cool. “You know, just so that they don’t have to pry you out of this thing.”
“Uh, yeah, I’m cool with that,” Peter says, voice sheepish as she moves to sit beside him. He can smell the lemony scent of her shampoo as she settles beside him; it grows stronger as her head drifts down to rest against his. He exhales, resting his own temple on her shoulder comfortably as the car begins to move. The lights from below are growing to be the only illumination as the final rays of sun disappear.
“I can’t believe you remembered,” she murmurs from beside him, and Peter feels his cheeks heat again. “Dork.”
“Hey… It was just that good.”
“No, it wasn’t. I had just started stippling, it was crazy uneven.”
“I thought it was really cool,” Peter defends himself, allowing his head to sink further against her shoulder.
MJ hums, her hand coming to rest against his on his knee. He lightly runs his fingertips along her knuckles, watching the changing sky outside the window. “You’ve always been a really good artist, and it was my first day at Midtown. It was the coolest thing I’d seen all day, and you looked so… I dunno. You.”
MJ is quiet from beside him, and when she finally does, it’s to say, “Wow. You’re more cliche than I already thought you were.”
“Than you already thought I was?”
“You’re a high-school superhero who was bitten by a radioactive spider. You could have your own Disney channel show or something.”
Peter grins, and he reaches for her hand. She gives it to him willingly, and when the wheel stops with them at its highest point, she glances his way. Though her words are dry, her tone is a bit breathless as they take in the sight of the beach below.
“I can’t think of anything that could possibly make this cheesier.”
Someone down below lights fireworks, which explode in the night sky above and bathe the world in red and blue.
Peter doesn’t remember starting to laugh, but he does know that MJ somehow manages to look both fond and exasperated as she leans over to kiss him. Her lips taste like cinnamon and brown sugar against his, and Peter knows that this is the moment he’s going to come back to whenever he needs reminding of what “home” is.

Positive 20 Questions Tag Game
i made a tag game again.  i’m bored, procrastinating, and certain we all need some more positivity right now. hell yeah.
1.) Name 4 fictional characters who showcase your personality the best, with explanations if you want.
- dean winchester (supernatural): i never shut up about his but dean is me y’all.  we both be out here, acting like we’re tough when we’re just jelly filled dorks, being nurturing as hell, making jokes to cheer people up, with a constant chip on our shoulders, and secretly just wanting someone to love us and love someone back.
- maria vontrapp (sound of music): i know she’s not technically a fictional character since that’s based on a true story but whatever.  you know what i could name everything about her, but i won’t bc who has time for that.  basically just fucking listen to the song “maria” from that movie where all the nuns roast her and you’ve basically got my personality wrapped in a bow for you.  just an innocent ass train wreck that just wants to love everyone but doesn’t realize that manners are a thing.  that song is so me that my family used to sing it at me when i was little and they still do.  also when she blows the whistle obnoxiously at the captain and is just like “lol sorry captain didn’t know how i was supposed to address you :)))” super passive aggressively, me.
- tracy samantha lorde (the philadelphia story): okay she’s definitely classier and fancier than me but, the real vulnerable shit underneath all of her grace and beauty is samesies.  she basically is so intolerant of people being anything less than perfect because she’s so afraid of people getting close to her and seeing her flaws....cough cough.  she keeps everyone at a distance because she doesn’t want to get hurt. lmao.
- lilo (lilo and stitch): another fictional character that my family needed to point out was me at every turn.  my older sister and i actually used to say ohana to each other before bed because she was so similar to nani and i’m so similar to lilo and we fight EXACTLY like them.  lilo is just a little outcast who, once again, just loves everyone and wants to be seen and loved for who she is, but has such a hard time connecting to people because they don’t understand her and her aggressive way of showing her intense emotions.  my mama still calls me lilo sometimes.  i have a lilo plushie on my bed and a lilo sticker on my laptop bc i love her and she gets me.
2.) Aesthetic?
-  bright colors, ocean waves, dirty and torn clothing, and wildflowers.
3.) Favorite musical/play? (If you’ve never seen a musical or play, one you’d be interested in seeing?
- into the woods.  it was phantom of the opera for most of my childhood and teenage years, but into the woods really just goes after the life metaphors and really makes  you think about the difference between right, wrong, and gray areas. like there’s a song about how adventure changes you and makes you view the world differently.  there’s another about how somewhere between mundane and perfect is where the best parts of life lie.  there’s another all about how important children are and how vital it is that you are careful what you say and do around them.  it just goes the fuck off.
4.) What is the best compliment you’ve ever received?
- “you think about the world in ways i never thought were possible”
5.) How many times have you been in love?
- kind of 1? i’ve been into the same person my whole life but i’m constantly debating myself on if unrequited love can count as being in love with someone you’re actually with, if that makes sense?
6.) Embarrassing story or fact about yourself that makes you laugh now?
- when i was little, i secretly wanted to be an actress on broadway, so when i was home alone and would watch movies, i would pick a character in the movie and act out their parts as i watched like a crazy person lol.
7.) Favorite Disney/Pixar movie?
- favorite disney movie is lilo and stitch for reasons mostly mentioned in the first question, but the family doesn’t get left behind or forgotten and the outcast is not unloveable they’re just misunderstood messages just send me and really helped baby molly.  how obvious is it that i’m a giant sucker for an interesting message?
8.) Favorite flower or plant?
- black eyed susans.  they’re a wild flower with a similar beauty to daisies, but with a little bit of darkness in them.
9.) What’s your favorite holiday?
- christmas biiiiiiitch.  it’s the one time of year i’m not worried that my house is haunted and i get to sing all the time and people don’t find it weird or annoying.  the snow is not the best but everything else makes up for it.
10.) Name three things that made you laugh or smile this past week.
- when i was laying in the grass today, a little tiny robin hopped over to me and whistled at me and it was a magical experience
- i realized i only have 3 more weeks of school until this hell semester is over
- my mom made my bed on top of me and if you’ve never had someone do that to you before, did you have a childhood? are you okay? also find someone to do it to you right now.
11.) What song would you play to introduce yourself to someone?
- either "thank you for the music” by abba or from mamma mia depending on the kind of person you are, or i guess the song “maria” that i mentioned before lmao
12.) Name something that truly makes you feel peaceful even at your most stressed moments.
- laying down in the grass on a nice sunny day and just listening the sounds of birds, bugs, and other surrounding noises.
13.) What do you, did you, or would you study at college?
- i am currently working on my masters degree in special education for elementary school ages.  i will probably go back and get a second masters in school counseling to help students with special needs who are in traumatic situations or are mistreated at home.
14.) This is kind of a weird one, but which outfit of yours makes you feel most like yourself?
- my emotional support outfit as my friends call it is my toy story pajama pants with my guiness sweatshirt from ireland
15.) What is a quote you live by?
- be fiercely and ferociously yourself.
i have also recently started to follow “you’ve got to lighten up, it’s just life.”
16.) Name the funniest playlist name you have.
- “the chocolate ganache” and i called it that because it’s full of songs that represent my soul and personality and chocolate ganache is what i like to think my filling would be if i was a cake.
17.) Make a reference to an inside joke you have with someone you love with zero context.
- bob hope and bing crosby
18.) What is a message you would give your younger self if given the chance?
- if someone doesn’t like you for who you are, tell them to fuck directly off.
19.) Who is your favorite family member? (If you have no good blood family members, feel free to mention someone in your found family)
- my late grandfather.  i called him papa and he was basically my father.  he was smart, cuddly, serious, fiercy loving, and kind of dorky, but he was the best and i miss him every day.
20.) What’s a secret dream of yours?
- my childhood dream mentioned above still kinda lingers around in my brain from time to time, but i know it’s not possible for me.
tagging my friends (or at least i’d like to think we’re friends lmao) @navajolovesdestiel @victorian-sexstache @missjojo96 @multifandom-fanatic @day-fire @baby-in-a-trenchcoat7 @green-eyes-and-classic-rock, and @thetiredstuff and literally anyone else who wants to play.  for real.
if i didn’t tag you and you play, please tag me! i’d love to read through yours!
if i did tag you and you’re intimidated by the size of this and have decided, “fuck that noise” i respect you and i get it no hard feelings (:

Don't Show, Don't Tell
Part 4/4 (Finale)
Ship(s): Violet / Clementine
Media: The Walking Dead Game (Season 4)
Violet pushed aside the large vine blocking their path, exposing a small, secluded pond. The brush and vines around the area completely isolated the small body of water from any unwanted attention.
The moonlight reflected off the water, illuminating the area. The enclosure was like nothing that Clem had ever seen before. Violet eagerly looked up at Clem, waiting for a reaction. "Whaddya think?"
Clementine finally exhaled, letting go of the breath she'd held since entering the enclosed nirvana. "Holy shit."
"I found this place when Ruby sent me on a fetch quest for seagrass." Violet knelt down at the edge of the pond, and beckoned for Clem to follow her. "Look at this."
Clementine knelt beside her, squinting to try and see what Violet was pointing at in the water. She was at a loss until something moved, quick and skiddish. A small, stone-shaped thing with a tail that looked like a strand of seaweed had come into view. After a couple seconds of silence, three more appeared.
"What are they?" Clem tilted her head at the sight, not daring to speak above a whisper in case they would be scared off.
Violet couldn't help but smile at Clem's amusement, and scooched closer, playing it off as getting a better view of the subject. "Tadpoles. We lived next to a marsh, and my mom would sometimes take me outside to watch them grow. I like this stage the most. They look so dumb without arms."
Clementine snorted, watching with childlike amusement as a tadpole managed to swim along, legs kicking awkwardly and clumsily.
"This shit blows my mind sometimes. I never really considered how the cycle of some species just continues, no matter what. Not even walkers can stop them. Hell, they probably don't even know they exist." Violet sadly pondered, a bird flying through the trees as if on cue. "Life goes on."
Clementine turned towards Violet as her voice trailed off. Her eyes were narrowed, set on the tadpoles below her. Clem took a deep breath, before leaning against Violet. Violet's muscles stiffened at the new feeling, before eventually relaxing, a happy hum coming from her.
"Sometimes, I think.." Violet started, taking a second to mull over her thoughts before sending them out. "I think about how good things are for me right now. How I don't want to fuck them up. I think that stupid armless tadpole was me after losing Minnie. Just kinda fucking around, you know?"
Clementine took her eyes away from the moon, and set her gaze on the reflection of Violet off the water. She lifted her hand to rub at her eye, before sniffling, bunching the grass under her fist.
"Now you're one of those sick ass frogs." Clem giggled, to which Violet smiled and lightly shook her head. "Like the kind I used to shove in my pocket."
"You put frogs in your pocket?" Violet's eyebrows rose, a smirk covering her face before she spoke up again. "I thought frog-catching would be a bit below Princess Clementine."
Clem sat up with a mock gasp, and shoved Violet playfully. "Haven't you ever heard of princess and the frog?" Violet snorted, the ends of her eyes crinkling as she laughed.
Clementine really appreciated the small details that she discovered after all her time with Violet. Like how she snorts when she laughs, and how you could differentiate between her fake and real smiles by looking at her eyes.
A murmur was drowned out by Clem's thoughts, interrupted by a splash. "Sorry, wasn't listening."
"I said that's probably something Louis would try to pull. Did I tell you that when I first got here, he and Marlon tried to sell me a 'super exclusive pass to the third floor'?" Violet raised her hands to make quotation marks, then rolled her eyes fondly. "Dummy."
"Well, good thing I'm not looking for a prince." Clementine boasted, narrowly missing the quick glance Violet shot her way. The two sat in silence for a minute, Violet's eyes narrowed in contemplation.
"We should head back," Violet broke the silence with a whisper, hoisting herself quickly to her feet. "Lou's probably worried by now."
Clem didn't want to leave. She wanted to sit next to Violet and watch the tadpoles dance around the water for a couple more hours. She knew that Violet was right though, and stood up with a sigh.
Violet pushed away the brush and held the entrance open for her. Clementine looked back longingly at the safe haven behind her, before ducking under the branches.
"This was.. really nice. Thank you for taking me here." Clem grinned, brushing her shoulder against Violet's. The blush across Violet's face gave Clementine a boost of confidence, so she took a deep breath and decided 'fuck it.' "Pretty good for a first date."
Violet's face lit up, the corners of her mouth rising instantly. Clem lifted her head and locked eyes with her.
                       Yep, genuine.
Violet quickly recovered from her initial fluster, straightening her posture. "Good to know you're so easy to please. If talking about frogs and reminiscing is your idea for a good date, our next one will blow your fuckin' mind."
                  "Can't wait."
Violet smiled to herself, then reached out to tug at Clementine's hand. Clem pulled Vi's hand up to her lips, and gave it a small peck before swinging their arms back and forth between them childishly.
          "Dork."
"You're a dork too, by association." Clem sneered, happiness embedded in her tone.
The two approached the gate, hand in hand. Violet reached over to unlatch the gate, cringing at the sound the rusty gate made upon swinging open.
"Wow, walking me home after? Aren't you a charmer." Clementine giggled, letting herself be dragged as Violet pulled her through the opening, and to the school doors.
"Nah, escorting you back due to reports of stolen frogs." Violet retorted to which Clem rolled her eyes, pulling open the door. They stood in the doorway for a little bit, before Violet cleared her throat. "Goodnight, Clem."
Clementine let her hand go, then reached up to kiss Violet on the tip of her nose. "Thanks for the date. G'night, Vi." Clementine disappeared around the corner of the hallway, leaving Violet standing there to replay the moment in her head.
                         "Whoo!"
Violet shook her head, refusing to look up at the dork up on the bell tower, cheering and flailing. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't wipe the smile from her face, and the enthusiastic hollering from her best friend didn't help her attempts at all. Violet happily hummed to herself, before shutting the door behind her, and heading back to her room.
The courtyard was peaceful and silent, with the exception of the crickets chirping and Louis singing sappy love songs to himself up on top of the bell tower.

My Favorite Asshole Pt.2
Tumblr media
This is a Jake Kiszka x reader story but will involve the others.
This will be a multiple part story and pretty lengthy, I also may be slow to upload because my work schedule is pretty crazy. with that being said here we go!!! (p.s sorry about any errors I will proof-read but may miss something)
Word Count: +1,600
Part One
As the 8th-period bell rang you and Ronnie walked towards the parking lot to meet her brothers and Danny at Josh’s van. You saw a very run down Volkswagon van come into view and a curly-headed Josh laughing and making jokes with a group of teens. You then felt a presence next to you when you looked up you came face to face with Sam, he had the brightest smile on his face.
“How was your first day, songbird?”
“Songbird, I don’t know about that; but today has been better then I imagined” you said with a slight laugh
“Oh you don’t like it, gives me even more reason to call you it, and of course today was better then you expected, you got to meet a really tall, very sexy, long-haired man”
you just rolled your eyes “yeah in your dreams Sammy, you’re not my type and you aren’t a man you’re a boy.”
“Oooo feisty, I like it. If I’m not your type then what is, because I’m everyone's type”
“That’s none of your business, but I can assure you, your not it”
“Wow, that hurt” Sam said with a slight laugh you just rolled your eyes and let out a small laugh when you got to the van you looked around and saw that everyone was there but Jake. You guys joked around for a bit and you looked in the distance and saw Jake walking towards you all holding hand with some girl. For some reason, this bothered you because while Sam wasn’t your type, Jake sure was. You just turned your head as they were a few feet away and started to talk to Ronnie. You heard Josh's voice break through all conversation
“Well if it isn’t the two love birds, Who take there time? We are all waiting on you Jake” Josh said with an annoyed tone to his voice.
“Whoa man, Take a chill pill. I was just walking Sarah to her car. Give me two seconds” you looked back at Ronnie with wide eyes she whispers in your ear
“Josh can’t stand Jake’s girlfriend, well we all can’t stand her.” you just silently shake your head you guys pile into the van and wait for Jake to get back to the Van. When he got in he immediately started in with Josh.
“What the hell man, why do you have to be such an ass?”
“Me you're the one that took your sweet ass time getting to the van”
“Whatever man just lay-off next time, She doesn’t deserve to be shit on by you all the time”
“Bro, she legit has cheated on you twice and is a total bitch” you were taken aback by this, this is when Sam butts in
“While I agree with Josh, we should drop it. Let Jake get his heart broken again.”
“Fuck off Sam nobody asked you” this was getting extremely heated just as Sam was going to speak Ronnie cuts him off
“Hey all, this isn’t the time or place. You all need to calm down, Jake try to be on time, Josh bit your tongue next time, and Sam don’t go so far next time.”
“Whatever” Jake said with a huff. The drive to their place was pretty quiet Josh had to turn on some music. As Josh turns left on a country road Van Morrison- Into The Mystic starts to play.
“Hey Josh, can you turn this up, it’s one of my favorites”
“Sure thing” as the song grew louder you started to softly sing you heard Josh and Sam join in and Ronnie just sway to the music; as the song fades Danny spoke
“Holy shit y/n, you’ve got pipes, Sam was right”
“Told you Danny songbird could replace Josh if he ever gets too annoying” Sam said with a laugh
“Thanks, Danny I dabble, and Sam if you call me songbird one more time I’ll kill you, also what am I replacing Josh in?”
“Our band, and I’m not scared of you one-bit songbird” Sam said in a sing-songy voice
“Hey, hey, hey nobody is replacing me in anything, but I dig the nickname. Your officially songbird”
“No, I am not” you say with a slight laugh
“I kinda like it too” Danny Said
“I won’t call you that if you don’t want to be called that. But I can’t control these fools” Ronnie said with a giggle the van finally came to a stop. Jake was the first one out of the van and in the house, he slammed both doors in the process.
“He has such an attitude problem sometimes, sorry if it makes you feel awkward you’ll get used to it tho” Sam said reassuringly
“Yeah it’s super bad when Sarah is in the picture” Josh said quietly
“You should watch us practice later, we love getting new fans” Sam said with a laugh
“Oh totally, I have some homework and lines to practice, but I down.”
We walked in and Ronnie gave me a small tour of the house and we went and sat our stuff at the kitchen table to do our homework. About 2 hours had past and you guys just finished last of your homework Ronnie spoke up
“I’m gonna jump in the shower real quick before I start cooking dinner, do you want to see if Josh or Jake wants to run lines with you?”
“Sure” you guys got up and walked up the stairs towards Josh room you knocked but there was no answer
“Maybe he went out, let's go see if Jakes in his room” you reached the last door at the end of the hall and Ronnie knocked softly you hear some light music playing in the background and footsteps coming to the door. As Jake opens the door he starts to speak
“Josh, I told you to leave me be until after dinner...” as the door opens all the way your face to face with very annoyed jake, his face soon relaxes when he realizes it’s you and Ronnie
“Hey dork, Do you know where Josh is we can’t find him?”
“Nah, he was annoying me about an hour ago but I flipped out on him, he may have gone to the store”
“Oh okay, I’m gonna jump in the shower do you want to help run lines with y/n until I’m out?” Jake seemed to be taking back a little bit
“Sure, She probably needs all the help she can get.” he quickly recovered from his initial reaction.
“Cool, just don’t be a dick”
“Okay Ronnie” He said with an eye roll he then looked at you and opened his door wider letting you in you took a seat on the little couch he had by his window he closed the door and walked towards the record player
“What do you want to listen to?”
“I’m down for anything” your eye wandered down the back of him he was wearing grey joggers that fit him perfectly and a t-shirt that was a little cropped when he bent down to grab a new record his shirt lifted a little revealing his back you zoned a little and as he turned around you were still looking at him.
“Hey y/l/n my eyes are up here” he said with a smirk on his face
“Don’t flatter yourself Jake, I just zoned out” you could feel the heat rise to your cheeks but you quickly got in your bag and pulled out the script
“Don’t worry about it, I zone out all the time staring at people asses” he said with a laugh
“Whatever, do you want to get started”
“Sure” He sat down at the chair at his desk and you guys read your lines, sharing laughs when you messed up, and also getting to know each other a little bit. Time flew by next thing you know Ronnie was knocking at the door interrupting you and jake from your concentration.
“Foods done, Get your asses down here. Mom and dad aren’t joining us I guess they are on a business trip. for the rest of the week.”
“What trip, they didn’t even tell us about it”
“Don’t ask me, maybe they just wanted to get away for the madness that is this house, How’s it going you guys feel confident in the parts?”
“We’re pretty much guaranteed the parts, Mrs.Jones always gives it to the soloist shes already picked in choir” Jake spoke you met the rest of the crew downstairs and start to eat, small talk broke out and Josh planned a little party for Saturday, You all spoke and joked around Jake even joined in which took you by surprise because he had been so quite previously. As you all finished the boys dragged you and Ronnie out to the garage so they could practice and play for you. As they started to play your eyes were immediately on Jake they way he played the guitar was unlike anything you have ever seen, you soon were broken out of your trance by the sound of Josh’s vocals your eyes start to drift around to each of the boys they all looked like they were having so much fun, you always found your way back to Jake, he caught you staring once and just smiled at you, you shook your head and looked a Sam he was on the keys having the absolute time of his life. You turned to Ronnie,
“They are really good like I’m shocked”
“Extremely good, they make me so proud”
“Nobody plays music like this anymore, What’s their band name?”
“Greta Van Fleet”
“I defiantly am not replacing Josh” you both laughed and went back to jamming out as the boy's practice came to an end Josh asked you what you thought.
“That was fucking incredible, like amazing your voice, Sam on bass and Keys, Danny’s drumming, and Jake on guitar, I mean come on, it amazing you guys are amazing”
“Thank’s songbird” Sam spoke
“Did you zone out at all y/l/n” Jake said with a cocky smirk on his face
“At times yes only during the guitar solos, they were kinda boring” you said with a laugh everyone joined in and jake just shook his head with a smile.
“Hey all as fun as this has been it’s getting kinda late, I think I should be heading home” you spoke “Me too” said Danny
“Yeah okay, I can take you guys” Josh spoke
“I’ll tag along” Ronnie said
As you climbed in the van your mind drifted to Jake. How could he have a girlfriend, this is just your luck. It’s probably for the best because you really like these guys no need to ruin that by falling for Jake. You guys drove in the night listening to music and talking. You couldn't wait to spend more time with the five of them.

Chapter 5 - Genius, Billionaire, Philanthropist
I got a call a few days after playing never have I ever with Clint telling me to come meet him at the Avengers tower.  I had to teach that morning, but I came out just after.  Clint was waiting in the lobby trying to look completely indiscreet, but failing miserably.  I skipped over to him and kissed his cheek.   “What’s up, bird friend?”  I asked.
Clint chuckled and shook his head.  “You’re a complete dork you know that?”  He said taking my elbow and leading me to the elevator.
“So I’ve been told,”  I answered.
We got into an elevator by ourselves.  Someone else tried to get in behind her but Clint gave her such a murder look she faltered and stepped back out again.
“It’s time for you to meet Tony.”  He said when the doors closed.
I stepped back from him and fidgeted on the spot.  “Okay,”  I said, nervously.
Clint took my hand and squeezed it.  “Remember, this isn’t a challenge.  You don’t have to force yourself into a relationship.  You shouldn’t do that.  All you need to do is be open to things if this is something you’re interested in.  Maybe for you and Tony, you’re just friends.  But if he doesn’t approve you, we can’t really move forward from here, because this is what Nat and I have.  You understand?”
I nodded.  “So what should I do?”
The elevator stopped and we both got out.  “Just be yourself.  Get to know him.  Don’t lie about yourself to get him to like you.  That’s just going to hurt people in the long run.”
I nodded still chewing my lip.  He pulled me close to him, wrapping me tightly in his arms.  “It’s weird, I get it.  But you’re doing fine.”  He kissed me, smashing our lips together.  When he pulled back he turned me to face the hallway ahead.  “He’s in his office for a change.  Right up there on the left.”  He said, pushing me forward and giving my ass a slap.  “Go get ‘im, tiger.”
I wandered down the hall keeping my eyes peeled for Tony.  Turned out, he spotted me first.
“You… what are you doing here?”  He said, clicking his fingers.
I stopped at the door and poked my head in.  “I’m sorry, Mr. Stark.  Clint said…”
“Oh, one of Clint’s girls.  There should be protocol in place to deal with that.”  He said, shuffling some papers on the desk.
“You mean a ‘kick me out of the building’ protocol?”  I said, with a laugh.
Tony looked up at me and quirked his eyebrow.  “You said it.  Not me.”
“Well, while you are correct Clint and I are definitely doing the thing that would set that protocol into effect.  I only just got here.  He sent me down to find you.”  I explained.
Tony stopped what he was doing.  He tilted his head like he wasn’t sure what to make of me.  “Why would he do that?”
I shrugged.  “Thought we might hit it off I guess.”
Tony assessed me for a moment longer and went back to shuffling papers. “I don’t know why he would think that.  I’m highly abrasive.”
“Oh, I don’t know.”  I hummed.  “Besides, I’m possessing infinite patience, Mr. Stark.”
Tony laughed and shook his head.  “You can cut the Mr. Stark stuff.  I’m Tony or Sir.”
I leaned against the door frame and ran my teeth over my bottom lip.  “I’m sorry… sir.”  I teased.
“Nope.  Changed my mind.  Not sir.  Just Tony.”  Tony said, quickly.
I broke down in laughter.  “Tony it is.”
“Am I funny?  I’m sure I could be more funny if I was trying to.”  Tony quipped looking back up at me.
“I honestly don’t think you could be.”  I teased.
He stood and moved around to the other side of his desk.  “Did I do something to you?  Maybe I slept with one of your friends?”
I pretended like I was thinking about it.  “No… I don’t think so.  But I guess it’s a small world so who knows?”
“Must be one of the lucky few then.”  Tony shot back.
I laughed and took a few steps inside.  “Self-deprecating?  I wouldn’t have pegged you for that.”
“You didn’t hear about me in my playboy years?  Anything that wasn’t nailed down, or so they say.”  Tony said, straightening up and taking a step towards me.
“I have heard about that, but I was under the impression it was models, mostly of the underwear catalogue kind.”  I mused.
Tony chuckled and shook his head.  “The underwear models were a bonus, but nothing was really off the table.  As long as they were good in bed.”
“Well, it’s nice to know you were slumming it with my kind too.”  I teased.  “But tell me, Tony.  How exactly did you know they were good in bed beforehand?”
He shook his head and tsked me, waggling his finger.  “Nope.  I’m not running a school for telling the good sexers here.  That’s a working title for a class I don’t teach.”
“Damn, think of all the duds you could have had me avoid.”  I laughed.
He took another step forward.  “You’ll just have to play the cards you get dealt I guess.”
“So what about me?  Anything you think I should work on?”  I asked him.
He looked me up and down, his tongue poking out of the corner of his mouth.  “You really want to know?”
I nodded my head.  “Yeah, go on.”
“You seem very straight sub. I like someone with a little more fight than that.”  Tony said.
I chuckled and shook my head.  “That’s interesting because I would have pegged you as complete power dom.”
“Who said I’m not?”  Tony said quirking his eyebrow.  He took another step towards me and held out his hand.  “Tony Stark.”
“No, my name is Elly Cooper.  You’ve confused me with yourself.  Do you do that kind of thing often?”  I said, taking his hand and shaking it.
“I’m sure you think you’re hilarious, but I’ve got news for you,”  Tony said, laughing.  “You wanna grab some lunch?”
“Sure, I could eat.”  I agreed.
“FRIDAY have the Spyder brought out the front,”  Tony said, grabbing some things from his desk and putting them in his pocket.
“Right away, Sir.”  The buildings AI replied.
Tony took me to Per Se.  A Michelin Star restaurant on Columbus Circle at the edge of the park.
We walked in through the door and there was a sudden panic from the staff. A tall, thin woman in a red pencil cut dress and matching heels rushed over.  “Mr. Stark.  You don’t have a reservation.”  She said.
“That’s okay, I’ll just sit over there.”  He said, pointing to a table by the window clearly occupied by two people.
“Yes, of course, Mr. Stark.”  She said and waved her hands.  Other stuff rushed over moving the two now completely horrified looking diners.
I couldn’t believe what was happening.  This restaurant was the kind that allowed reservations months in advance and booked out right away and here we were just walking off the street and had people rushing around to make room for us.  Not to mention that Tony was in jeans and a Black Sabbath t-shirt and I was in a skirt with a galaxy printed on it and a Guns N Roses singlet.  We looked as out of place as two people could, yet everyone was scattering to make room for us.
“You know I would have been happy with a hot dog from that wagon outside the building right?”  I said, once we were seated and our drinks orders were placed.
“I'll remember that for next time,”  Tony said.
“There's going to be a next time?”  I asked quirking an eyebrow at him.  “Is that why you're trying to impress me by showing how powerful you are?”
“Is that what I'm doing?”  Tony asked.
“Oh, so you normally come to one of the most hard to get in places in the city with views of Central Park and just force them to seat you?”
Tony laughed.  “You're good.  How did Legolas meet you?”
“Through Natasha.  Nat and I have been dating about three months now.  That is if you count the time she's been away.”  I explained.
Tony sat back in his chair and rolled his eyes.  “I see what's happening here.  They're recruiting for the towers little den of iniquity and they need me to approve you.  Whatever.  Tell them it's fine.  I don't care.”
The wait staff arrived with our drinks, a Scotch for Tony and a strawberry vodka daisy for me.  “Oh don't be like that.  You were already planning a second date just a minute ago.  Why not actually give me a chance?”
Tony sat forward and scowled at me.  “Look what they have, it’s great they think I'm part of it.  But I was in an actual healthy monogamous relationship and it exploded in my face.  I don't have it in me again.”  He said before sitting back again.  “Besides, my therapist told me to take time.”
“Sucks when you love someone so much and that's not enough doesn't it?”  I said, taking a drink.
Tony looked at me suspiciously.  “Who was yours?”
“Ex-girlfriend.  Thought we'd get married.  Turns out, she cheated on me constantly.  Which is funny because if I even looked sideways at another person she'd get incredibly jealous.”  I explained.
“See at least that makes sense.  I just drove Pepper away with how I am.”  Tony said.  The hurt and confusion apparent.  Even after the months since the breakup.
I reached over the table and took his hand, giving it a squeeze.  “Yet, you have a whole group of people who count you as being their boyfriend.  You’re not unlovable, Tony Stark.”
“You don’t even know me.”  Tony scowled.
“No.  But I’d like to.”  I said with a small smile.
His hand closed around mine for a moment but the waiter arrived with the first course and he quickly let my hand go.  Oysters with pearls of tapioca and mini lobster rolls with caviar.
“Do you really like Guns and Roses or were you wearing that for my sake?”  Tony asked, picking up an oyster and swallowing it.
I laughed.  Quite loudly.  “Oh my god!”  I wheezed, holding my side.  “Yes, that’s why I put clothes on in the morning.  In the hope to impress Tony Stark if we happen to meet.”
Tony just gave me an incredulous look.
“No, Tony.  I honestly had no idea we’d meet today.  I got a text while I was at work from Clint telling me to come by.  I thought he was just wanting to hang out.”  I explained and took a bite of the lobster roll.
He seemed to relax again.  “So what is it that you do that you can just shirk off to hang out with Avengers when you feel like it?”
“Not exactly when I feel like it.  But I’m an Evolutionary Biologist.  I was teaching this morning.  I should probably be working now.  But I have a little freedom with my research.  As long as it gets done, it doesn’t matter when or how long I work on it.”  I say, downing an oyster.
“Ahh, science kids.  They were always the worst to work with at college.”  Tony said as the waiters came and cleared our plates replacing them with the second course of salad.
“I could say the same thing for engineering kids.”  I tease.
Tony pulled out his phone and started looking through it, completely ignoring me and picking at his salad.  After a little while, he looked up.  “Does Natasha know what exactly it is you study?”
I nod.  “Yes.  I have been completely honest with her.  Besides, she pursued me.  I didn’t go after her.”
He nodded and I lost him again for the following course of seared bass and mussels and half of the sautéed scallops.  “This work you're doing.  It’s impressive.”
I waved him off.   “It’s just the popular thing because of the sudden increase in supers.  It’s not like I have that much of a sample size to test anything properly.  Just a handful of scared people who suddenly can do things no one else can do.”
He shook his head.  “You should own it you know?  It’s ahead of the field.  Brucie Bear doesn’t even know this level of biology and he was testing it on himself.”
“Maybe if he had it wouldn’t have gone wrong.”  I joke.  “I did base a lot of my research on his though.  So if he just had been patient…”
We got lost in science talk.  I couldn’t always keep up with him.  There is a lot of misinformation about him out there, but the genius thing.  That is accurate.  I honestly wasn’t expecting to like Tony as much as I did.  But I really liked him.  He was snarky and hilarious and so, so smart.  I’d imagined that the most that was going to happen between us was we’d be alright friends, but the more we talked the more innuendo started to creep in.  And the more I hoped that it would actually lead somewhere.
The meal was huge.  After the scallops came brioche bread with bits of bacon baked into it.  Then came Peking duck.  Then wagyu beef with a chanterelle mushroom sauce.  Followed by cheese, followed by dessert.  We had been there for three hours by the time we had finished eating and I was more than a little bit tipsy from the cocktails I’d been drinking.
“I’m so full,”  I complained as I followed him back out to the car.
“We definitely should have stopped at the duck.”  Tony agreed, tipping the valet and climbing into the driver's seat.  I tried to jump in over the door, thinking it would be cool to do that just once.  I ended up getting my legs stuck and falling with my head in his lap.  “Hello there little Tony,”  I said as Tony broke down into laughter.
“Little Tony thinks that while you’re there you should get to know each other better.”  Tony teased.
I pushed myself up and somehow managed to get my legs into the car.  “Don’t issue me with challenges like that.  I’ll do it you know?”
Tony smirked at me.  “Maybe when you’re a little more sober.”
I buckled my seatbelt.  “Such a gentleman.”
Tony laughed and pulled the car into traffic.  “That's a new one.”
“You're not just saying that are you?  I really like you, Tony.  How dumb is that?”  I rambled.
Tony couldn't stop laughing.  “It's pretty dumb alright.”  He reached across and rubbed my thigh.  “I'm not just saying it.  I think Nat might be right.  There's something about you.  You're a complete nerd but it's like you have a little bit of each of us in you.”
“I'm gonna have a little bit of each of you in me.”  I joked.
Tony lost it again.  “Alright big talk.  One at a time.”
“It’s your turn now,”  I said.
He shook his head.  “I can't believe how drunk you are right now.  Totally lightweight.  Shall I take you home?”
I grinned at him.  “To your home.”
“Alright.  Definitely taking you home so you can sleep this off.”  He said, taking Central Park West up towards Columbia.
He double parked outside my building and walked me to the door.  “I had a really fun time, Tony,”  I said, walking my fingers up his chest.
He ran his palm over my jaw and I leaned into him.  He bridged the gap, his tongue running over the corner of my mouth before our lips met.  I kissed him hungrily and sloppily, tugging on his hair.  He pulled back with a hungry looking smile on his face.  “I did too.  Next time maybe little Tony can come out to play.”
“I sure hope so.”  I purred.
He slapped me on the ass and jumped back in his car.  “See you soon, nerd.  Get some rest.”  He said before pulling away.
