also to add to rb redux is max’s weird callbacks to him being teammates with daniel. unprompted!! max has said multiple times that he wasn’t the best teammate to daniel but that he wouldn’t act like that now👀 and daniel echos the same sentiment— saying they both were more immature but not as much now and how they’d do things differently👀👀👀

and when you consider the fact that it was not even a full year ago when max and checo did that agree/disagree game where max said that CHECO was his best teammate relationship because of his own maturity and growth!! for it to have shifted to 'daniel i could be so good for you and only you if you'd just give me a second chance 🥺 no one else in the world even exists i just want you 🥺' the SECOND it looked like there even the slightest possibility of daniel getting back in that seat....insane

Can we analyse Tulin for a bit?

Apart from being the keet birb boy, perhaps what makes his character so enthralling is how it so brilliantly reflects and offers commentary on the influences that have shaped him.

Whether that be Revali, his father Teba, and ESPECIALLY Link. Hell, it's no wonder that Link & Tulin have garnered such a sibling dynamic. Tulin essentially IS Link, from a time before the burden of responsibility and pain caused Link to cave in on himself pre-Breath of the Wild.

Right down to the veteran warrior father figure (Link's father was captain of the guard) and their acceptance of a newfound legacy out of forthright integrity. Tulin, at this point in his life, has yet to give himself away until there's nothing of him left to give, and let's pray he never needs to.

But Tulin would do that in a heartbeat, if called upon. He is very much his father's son.

You can see it in how archtypical childish spunk is tempered, like steel, by Teba's down-to-earth bluntness and sheer work ethic.

(BTW I wonder if Link sees his own father in Teba? That'd check out.)

But what caught me most pleasantly off-guard is Tulin's skepticism, which has become one of his most compelling traits for me. It's not something you would expect.

He did not believe that the Stormwind Ark existed, and while ultimately proven wrong, it frankly wasn't an illogical assumption to make. Tulin clearly thought through that opinion. He'd also grown frustrated that the Rito placed their faith on a songbook miracle — a eucatastrophe, if you will — instead of something more concrete like personal skill or, say, Link's whole-ass existence.

The second Link arrived and offered his aid, Tulin accepted his help without hesitation. He turned his skepticism inward to reevaluate his own tenets. And it's as a duo that they brought about said eucatastrophe through no one's strength but their own. They are siblings, Your Honor. Aryll 2.0

(If Revali had been blessed with a support network saying "it's okay to accept help. no man is an island," doubtless he still would have perished in Vah Medoh. But there would be less of an ego to shatter. He would have faced death with less blind panic and more dignity. And most importantly, he'd have other people to bolster the wind beneath his wings during his short life. (At the very least, Revali would not have as big an ass not be as big an ass, just as Tulin would be a different person without his family.)

Also, one thing that everyone seems to miss is just how deceptively intelligent Tulin turns out to be. This kid fuckin' knows his stuff. His mastery of aerodynamics beyond the instinctual is almost on par with Revali at such a young age. And how many precision headshots has his avatar saved your ass with, don't lie.

He somehow managed to follow his father back through time. Tulin can see Koroks.

It's not the same kind of passion-fuelled intellect as, say, Zelda has. More of an unyeilding conviction to learn all he can and put it into practice. About as understated a quality as Yunobo's inexplicable business acumen and economic sense.

As his mother Saki put it, for Tulin to develop as an individual, he needs to experience more of reality and its hardships. Shooting bullseyes and improving one's flying prowess / wind magic can't contend with genuine combat. True to her word, Tulin had to experience mistakes firsthand, and critically examine his own naïve ways of thinking in order to take those necessary steps.

So then, uh, is it wrong for me to wish something horrible upon him, if only to witness the positive character growth that springs from it? Tulin isn't the sort who'll shatter under pressure, like Revali did at the end of his life, or like Link did under the weight of expectation. Buckle, yes — but not break. Tulin's steadfast conviction, inherited from his father and guided by the people he loves, would assuredly see him through.

In any event, his Hero's Journey isn't close to over. I'd be curious to see Tulin at its conclusion.

Kind of a random ask, but it's something thats been bothering me lately. But what are your thoughts about people saying Dick and Damien are the best/better Batman and Robin? Or your thoughts on Dick choosing Damien over Bruce in the first place? Sometimes I think their relationship is cute, but sometimes when I see fanon interpretations, it makes me miss the simplier days when Damien just...didn't exist (no offense to him, but yeah). Sorry if this is all over the place, idk how to word right now lol

my favorite Batman and Robins are Bruce & Dick and Dick & Damian, so you won't find much sympathy from me!

first of all, Dick and Damian say, multiple times in canon, that they are the best. I think fans repeat that sentiment. it's a very sweet sentiment.

I really like the Dick!Batman and Damian!Robin run, and I also did not read it when it came out. my vague understanding is that, at the time that those issues came out, fans did not like Damian because he was annoying and a big change to the status quo. but I didn't have a love of Tim!Robin or the power of zeitgeist to sour me to Damian. so, I understand the dislike, but don't agree with it.

Damian was abrassive and annoying, but I happen to like those kinds of characters. Dick's gives Damian imperfect, unconditional love and acceptance, and that allows Damian to grow and. god it fucking gets to me. Dick's relationship to Damian is also a *lot* about Dick's relationship to Bruce, and his mourning of Bruce. Dick is, for the first time, in the same position Bruce was in when Dick was a child, and it allows him to understand Bruce better, and understand himself better. it's. it really fucking gets to me and I love it a lot.

it's hard to rank Batmans and Robins, it's not really a competition! but I would say that Dick and Damian are among the best. also, Dick and Damian are superior to Bruce and Damian. dynamic duo 2.0!

Colin and Damian's dynamic and each of them as individuals really intrigues me, so I wanted to continue my "Damian Wayne HC's", with their relationship and my intrepretation of things.

(By the way, I already made a post about explaining Colin's character within the canon. He is a character who is very misinterpreted and most of the time written as a Jon Kent 2.0. So if you want to understand my hc's for him more, you can go into my 'Colin Wilkes' tags and see my posts about him.)

Colin is a stoic kid. Damian is a stoic kid. So they make a pretty intimidating duo.

They both are considered 'cold' but Colin is more 'silent-cold' while Damian is 'unhinged-cold'.

Colin has always admired and loved superheroes ever since Batman saved him from Scarecrow, so his stoic persona slips away whenever he comes across one. He also does not have a 'least favorite' hero. He loves all of them.

Since Colin grew up in an orphanage and every night went out as Abuse to save people, he is very protective. Damian, naturally, is very protective. So sometimes it gets in their way when they're trying to save the other during fights and they end up just messing everything up and fuck off.

Although Colin is very stoic, before he became Abuse, he was a very shy child. He had a closed-off sadness inside him since people mostly adopted babies or toddlers. He just knew that he was too old and would be without a family.

After becoming Abuse, he first hand realized how dangerous Gotham could be to the people and the children. This filled him up with a new type of feeling, so he ended up following his heroe's foot steps and became a vigilante.

Colin (canonically) found out Damian was Robin from a single back flip. His ability to stay calm in situations and assess really helps him on the field.

Colin and Damian never go to school together, never meet up as Damian and Colin. At least not at first. Their friendship is built upon duty and mission. The realization of them being friends come to them years later.

There is only one person Damian would not hesitate to tell any sorts of secret, and that's Colin Wilkes. He just knows that no matter what, Colin would never judge him or admonish him for his flaws and mistakes.

Colin rarely sees Damian's other siblings, but Damian feels like Colin isn't very interested in them despite being a superhero fan. Which in return interests Damian. He never really understands why.

Colin is not very interested in Damian's siblings because they are so unlike Damian, it becomes very uncommonly common. Sure he likes them and admires their work very much. But they simply don't fight, think, joke or understand him like Damian.

What really intrigues Colin about Damian is that his character is exactly opposite of what a hero 'should' be. He is brash, agressive, hilarious in a fucked up way, dangerous, scary, theatrical, uncaring and scarred. He is such an uncommonly uncommon person that Colin just can't help but be his friend.

Best part of being Abuse to Colin is branding criminals' faces. He isn't sadistic really, but it gives him a deep pleasure doing it.

Damian thinks branding criminals is genius, although he refrains from doing it. Branding isn't really a Bat type of thing.

Colin doesn't really get along with Jon. Jon tries to befriend him and Colin knows that he is a good kid. But befriending Jon (or any other friend of Damian) means patrolling the streets as a trio rather than a duo. He can't really explain it, but it just feels wrong to imagine Damian in a three person group. He isn't jealous or anything, he is perfectly fine with Damian patrolling with Jon. It's just that he feels like, with Damian, it's supposed to be a duo. Bringing a third person messes up the dynamic for him and Damian.

After Alfred's death, Damian (canonically) ends up leaving the Manor and continuing on his own. And for a while Damian and Colin end up living together. These are the times where they really see what they mean to each other.

Damian sometimes really struggles to see or understand what really Colin is to him. A friend, ally, rival, lover, brother? He really doesn't know. What he knows though is that Colin means so much to him and that he will keep being at his side as long as he's allowed.

When someone hurts Colin, he will hurt them as much as they hurt him. An eye for an eye.

When someone hurts Damian, he will hurt them ten times more and they'll regret ever touching him.

Although Colin is a Batman fan, he doesn't have his moral code. He won't go out of his way to kill someone, but if they do end up dying he won't care as much as he should.

When Damian was a kid and would kill someone, he wouldn't feel anything. After Bruce's influence, in those rare times that he kills someone, all he hears is his father's voice in his head. So sometimes he wonders whether he is a bad person for feeling remorse because of his father and not for actually killing someone.

Both Colin and Damian aren't touchy people.

Colin isn't a touchy person because he rarely got them when he was little and now he just doesn't find the appeal in it. He doesn't really care or desire for it as much as other kids.

Damian on the other hand basically has haphephobia (fear of touch). He doesn't trust anyone to get that much close to him. Although he doesn't feel pain from touching, he feels lightheaded and reflexively presses his arms into his body as close as he can. This of course makes him uncomfortable. And in extreme cases, flashbacks and bad memories fill him up.

So these were some of my hc's for Colin and Damian. I don't know what you guys think of their relationship (whether it's romantic or pure friendship) so think of these as anyway you want.

Is rob ever coming back

Simply response? One can only hope.

The long response? I really hope we do get a return of the one and only Robert Jacob Sugden simply because of the vast stories that are just waiting to be told (and completely ignored by the various producers that were and still are in place on the show). Before he was dumped into prison hell:

The very early missing years after Jack kicked him out of the village (you can’t tell me all those years were with that terrible family)

The Jack secret. It was brought up during SSW2016 more of a mechanism to explain Robert’s behavior but other than that? Nada. I need his sister to realize that her father is not this man that should remain on a pedestal but one that did indeed was not perfect and did cause Robert scars that he continues to hold close to the vest

His poor self-view/self worth. This was touched on, on and off, but after reunion 2.0, completely discarded (if 2017 had been done differently… it would have been the perfect time to truly focus on properly). This would undoubtedly have become worse since his many years of incarceration.

Moving forward post-prison:

What the affect of being incarcerated for so many years have had on Robert. If he doesn’t come back with some type of mental health problems (PTSD, anxiety, depression, etc) then it’ll be down to lazy writing and still holding on to the same post-its ideas they were using from before. It was reiterated on and off he couldn’t handle prison but that’s where he landed

Sebastian. Will he even remember him or have been told that Robert was his father (are any of the Sugdens even in contact with him)? What affect will there be reconnecting with him (hopefully with his mother gone never to return)

Aaron. This will be a big component of his story. How will the dynamics play out and what state of mind will they be in when they see each other for the first time and where does it go from there? will Robert actually want to return to the village and dampen any ‘happiness’ Aaron may have now (more interference from Chaddy off screen).

Is there still residual bad feelings with his sister over what happened that last year and her still allowing the stalker/fake nurse to stay in her life

His reactions to BOTH his gran Annie and Liv’s deaths.

I want Robert to have an actual platonic friend or two that he can sound off on (think of how different 2017 would have been if he had been allowed a friend rather than his own self)

Two things I do want to point out. I hope when it is time for Robert to return, the dire duo are on their way out. From what I gather, things are still not great on the show and it really needs fresh blood that will steer it away from plot focus (since late 2016) to one that is character-driven (as it was prior to IM). And another, I hope it’s the devil Ryan Hawley that returns (but that is really up to whether he wants to actually return or do gigs as he has over the last few years). Chemistry cannot be manufactured or forced and we have seen the unfortunate result in those cases. Danny and Ryan had it in droves. If there was a recast, I cannot see it working (it rarely if ever does) or bring me back to the show. Robert!Ryan and Aaron are it for me.

Saying that Technoegg and Chayanne would have a playful rivalry.

Dynamic duo I need more people to hear me out on:

Cliffjumper and Jetfire being the most out of left field friendship. I need them to be real

They’re both someone who live in shadows of someone they care about and can’t escape the association of (Cliff literally being called Bee 2.0) (Jetfire being known as something something Starscream even tho he has his own personality and skills)

And they both get absolutely fucked over by the writing team ALMOST EVERY SINGLE TIME

If ur in a universe or headcanon where Prowl and Barricade were either cops together or brothers he can also be in this and make it a trio but he’d join later on when people find out about Barricade (because if you think Prowls talking about that man all ur wrong) (or he’d join in secret because he doesn’t want anyone to know he’s related to that freak)

Zoya for the ask game <3 (I'd love to hear your opinions on my favorite character)

omg tysm for the ask! (and to anon who also suggested zoya, sorry it took me so long to get round to it 😭)

why I like them: honestly she's just so fucking iconic, but I love how she's amazing and badass while not being one-dimensional! like she has flaws and she has trauma and insecurities and none of that takes away from her positive traits!!

why I don't: idk I feel like she has some ideas that I would disagree with - I haven't re-read the books in a while but I always got the vibe that she's pretty pro-military and particularly in favour of the second army. and like I get it! fun light-hearted fantasy books are not obligated to deconstruct entire social systems! but if I met her irl I think we'd argue about it lmao

favourite episode/scene: I love the scene in s2 where she agrees to ally with alina! I think it's really sweet and shows her character development

favourite season/movie: in terms of the books, I think she's best in the kos duology - as fun and iconic as she is in the s&b trilogy I think the backstory and development she gets in the later books really enhances her character

favourite line: oh this is so niche but “none of this had been fated; none of it foretold. there had been no prophecies of a demon king or a dragon queen, a one-eyed tailor, heartrender twins. they were just the people who had shown up and managed to survive. but maybe that was the trick of it: to survive, to dare to stay alive, to forge your own hope when all hope had run out. for the survivors then, zoya whispered to herself as the people before her knelt and chanted her name. and for the lost.”

I love the theme of fate/destiny vs free will in the grishaverse and this is honestly one of my all-time favourite quotes - I'm actually considering having part of it as my yearbook quote!

favourite outfit: ooooh I love her outfit for the shu han heist in s2 (although obviously, honourable mention to the blue ribbon™ just for being iconic)

otp: see my answer is different for fanon and canon. in canon I adore zoyalina, in fanfic I love zoyalai!

brotp: zoya and genya are literally the BEST friendship duo ever (although I also low-key ship them romantically). zoya and nina are not necessarily a good friendship but I love analysing their dynamic so they get an honourable mention anyway. oh and her cousin lada, the girl liliyana adopts - we barely see them interact but I think they would have had such a cute dynamic!!

headcanon: she's a cat person. this is actually true and accurate bc I say so. she 100% owns cats post-canon

unpopular opinion: she shouldn't have become queen at the end of row. as iconic as it is, I can't help but think that it would backfire politically, it'd have negative consequences for her relationship with nikolai, and it kind of sets back both characters' development. this feels too harsh but idk 😭😭 might write a longer post about it at some point

a wish: for her and nikolai to fix the issues in their relationship. bc yes, I think in canon they have Issues™ but this is a fixable problem! she just needs to stop putting him up on a pedestal!!

an oh-god-please-don't-ever-happen: imagine if she actually did become darkling 2.0 lmao. it'd never happen bc I think leigh bardugo would never do that, but it would be absolutely awful

i haven't visited the quarry tag to actually READ in a bit, which i feel bad about, ive been super busy. but!! i have a good handful of fics that i absolutely LOVED when i was reading so I'll post them here

"Feverish" by Holo (Nelioe) - this is a good short story about what would most likely ACTUALLY happen if you cut Dylan's hand off with a rusty chainsaw but it's still very cute

"Truth or Dare 2.0" by Chipper99 - pretty much how it sounds & this author has made more than one quarry fic, i highly recommend bc we all agree we got skimped on the truth or dare scene

"in the light of dawn, who are we but reflections of our traumas?" by iamsuperbi - if you like quarry fics this is one of my FAV quarry authors, i love their stuff, definitely would check them out. ive reread this particular fic several times & it's just as good each time

"Touch Tank" by casiferfans - a sweeter Rylan piece that reads very naturally & makes me kick my feet like a six-year-old whenever i finish it :)

"Would things be easier if there was a right way?" by starlingcore - Ryan/Dylan/Kaitlyn solidarity, need I say more??

"Visiting Dylan" by houseoffandom - the gang visits Dylan in the hospital & each chapter focuses on a different duo. i love the dynamics, i love the dialogue, & if you like closure, you'll like this

"Definitely Not Lost" by MIA_MAX - uuugggggGGGHHHH this one makes me feel inhuman. other sweet Rylan piece but set right after a playthrough where Dylan turned at the scrapyard. their reunion is everything to me

"Chewing Gum" by Fire_Finnigan - short piece; Dylan has an oral fixation but it's not really sexual. as someone who as an oral fixation irl i was absolutely fascinated by this one shot & ive read it more than once. it hooks really well & the Ryan content feels very natural :)

most of them are shorter stories bc i usually have the attention span of a fruit fly & im sorry i couldn't make the links works for me or i would've linked them :(

but anyway, these are just a few of my favs & there are so so many more amazing stories being written that i haven't even seen yet so plz feel free to recommend ME fics as well! otherwise, go check out these fics, leave the authors some love bc they completely deserve it, & thank you for asking!! i hope you enjoy :)
