Eddie downs the last of his beer and tosses the empty red cup into the kitchen sink, right between a couple who were clearly gearing up to claim one of the spare rooms upstairs.
Eddie snickers and winks as the girl tells him to fuck off while her boyfriend flips him the bird, god he loves highschool parties, and this one is no exception.
It's Halloween and business is booming for Eddie Munson.
He imagines Dian Fossey felt similarly, wandering through the Congo studying the great apes' behavior patterns and social structure from within rather than observing from afar.
So far Eddie's observations have paid off in spades and he's managed to sell out most of his stash by targeting the basketball team and their girlfriends. No one wants to get high all by themselves after all, it's almost too easy the way these sheep all flock together.
Eddie leaves the kitchen behind him, but not before snagging a can of something cold from a nearby cooler of half melted ice. With a decent buzz going, what's one more? He's done working for the night after all.
Eddie climbs the stairs, dodging drunk teens left and right as they make their way past him, shirts ruffled and hair messy. Eddie snorts, ignoring the wistful pull in his chest as a tall boy on the swim team pulls his girlfriend closer to press a chaste kiss to the top of her head before smoothing her curls away from her forehead.
Unfortunately no one Eddie would be interested in would accept him brushing their hair like that without punching him in the face.
He shakes his head and continues forward, he's an observer, nothing more.
Eddie passes a closed door on the second floor and pauses as a raised voice splits through the wood.
"It's bullshit, you're bullshit," the voice slurs out and Eddie feels a wide grin pull at the corner of his mouth.
He takes a step closer, nearly pressing his ear to the flat of the door.
"Like we're in love?" Another voice says softly, a guy, "you don't love me?"
A small part of Eddie knows he shouldn't be listening to this, he can hear the waiver in this guy's voice like his heart is slowly cracking in his chest. Shit, he almost feels bad for this guy.
But the people that go to these stupid parties, the Hawkins elite, the gorillas in the mist, deserve their bullshit --to use this girls turn-of-phrase.
The only reason they didn't mess with Eddie was because he was these highschool shit-heads main source of weed.
Its karma, plain and simple, Eddie reasons as he presses even closer now.
"It's. Bullshit". The girl hisses emphatically and for a second Eddie hears nothing.
It happens so quickly after that.
The door swings inward, causing Eddie to stumble into a tall firm chest as the bathroom guy collides with him.
"What the fuck?" The guy says as he pushes Eddie away from himself and --no way.
"Harrington?"
Steve blinks once, his wide hazel eyes red rimmed and shiny in the dim light of the hallway, the tip of his nose is pink as he reaches up to pinch it roughly before swiping across his eyes as well.
Even though Eddie's fairly certain that he and Steve are the same height, he seems smaller like this, deflated, standing in the hallway while a party rages down below them both.
A cheer rings out, startling Steve into action.
He steps widely around Eddie, enough that his shoulder connects with the wall in his haste to take the stairs down, two at a time, as though Hell is hot on his heels.
And Eddie should leave it, go back to the party, see if there are any snacks left before calling it a night, but something pushes him to follow the path Steve took.
It's like he's possessed, the haunted look in those hazel eyes forcing him forward until he's outside on the lawn.
A few other teens are outside, including a couple making out on the porch, Eddie steps over them and jogs to the end of the driveway.
He spots Steve down the street sitting on a large rock at the end of another neighbor's lawn with his face in his hands.
He looks up as Eddie gets closer and curses softly.
"Seriously? It wasn't enough that you were listening, you're following me now?" His voice cracks on the last word as he wipes his eyes again, he can't quite hide the way the moonlight catches the tear tracks running down his cheek and neck though.
"Oh come on Harrington," Eddie says, walking up to Steve. He sits on one of the other rocks and takes a crumpled pack of smokes out of his vest pocket, "it's no fun if you're sad".
"What is?" Steve mumbles after a beat, wiping his eyes again as he stares at the ground.
"Making fun of you," Eddie shrugs as he takes a cigarette and puts it between his lips, he smiles at the startled bark of laughter from Steve.
"You're a prick," he huffs softly, the barest of smiles slowly blooming across his face.
Eddie can count the constellation of freckles and moles across his face, giving the blanket of stars above them a run for their money. His hand twitches at the thought of touching the ones on Steve's throat.
Eddie coughs once, mentally tallying the number of drinks he must have had for those kinds of  thoughts and shifts on the rock to adjust his pants.
He holds out the pack to Steve who looks at the nearly empty sleeve before his eyes shift to the house behind Eddie.
"Nance hated cigarettes," Steve murmurs as the corner of his mouth twitches into a terrible frown. It's gone in an instant as Steve blinks once and reaches out for the pack.
"I got something stronger if you want?" Eddie offers, he shrugs when Steve looks up at him with suspicious eyes.
"Come on Harrington, I'm not gonna keep kicking you when you're down, you need a pick-me-up and then I can get back into it," Eddie stands up and without thinking, holds out a hand towards Steve, "what do you say?"
Steve stares up at him, his eyes flick once to the outstretched hand before he snorts dryly and slowly takes his hand.
It's warm in Eddie's own. The fingers squeeze gently as Steve uses it to hoist himself up until he's once again eye level with Eddie.
From this close Eddie can see the way his eyelashes have clumped together with leftover tears and the flecks of gold in his hazel eyes
Oh…this, this was a bad idea. Eddie swallows roughly as Steve finally nods.
"Lead the way Munson," Steve says with the barest of smirks as he wipes his face one last time, "and if you tell anyone about this, I'll slash your tires".
Eddie cackles at that, "there he is!"
He claps Steve on the back as he leads them towards where he parked his van down the road, "our chariot awaits!"
Eddie ignores the small voice that whispers in his ear, the one that sounds remarkably like his uncle, as it asks him just what the hell he thinks he's doing with Harrington of all people?
It'll be fine, he tells himself.
Besides, what's the worst that could happen?

Part Two
Gareth Emerson had no clue what the hell Eddie was thinking.
There was “adopting lost sheep” as he called it, and “being the nest baby birds needed before they fly” for some of the other poor, mid-year transfers, and all of Hellfire was used to both these adoptees.
People showed up, always looking a little hesitant, always a little careful, and all of them were welcomed until they found their place in Hawkin’s High.
This though? This was neither of those things.
No, what Eddie had done was taken a wolf, or a--fucking tiger, that had gotten hurt fighting other fucking tigers, and decided to keep it as a pet.
Even if said pet was looking very pathetic, with a face full of bruises that apparently, Billy Hargrove caused.
That did not make sitting across from the fallen King and current senior, Steve Harrington, any easier.
Judging by the rest of Hellfire’s constant uneasy glances and uncomfortable, awkward joking, no one else was comfortable with it either.
Except of course, for Eddie.
“Dude can we like, talk for a minute?” Gareth asked, motioning at Jeff and Grant to distract Harrington. Not that it was hard, the jock was too busy staring at his pathetic packed lunch to notice much.
(The guy brought soup to school and was drinking it cold. What the fuck.)
“Ga~ary.” Eddie sing-songed, but it was in warning.
A warning very much ignored, as Gareth stood, and moved to tug Eddie up with him.
“Now, Eddie.” He said, his own tone a manic, if suppressed version of his own warning.
Gareth was not known for keeping his temper, but he also wasn’t keen on getting his ass kicked this early in the day if Harrington took offense.
And considering they had all finally caught a look at Hargrove, and the way he fucking stopped and turned on his heel the second he saw Harrington, there was no doubt in Gareth’s mind that Harrington could kick his ass.
Even in his current, beaten to shit state.
Eddie huffed a dramatic breath, making sure at least some of his hair moved with it, but stood nonetheless.
“I’ll return shortly, friends!” He called jovially, before letting himself be dragged backwards several feet.
Just fair enough away where they could still see the table, but not be heard.
Particularly not by any invading jocks.
“What were you thinking!?”  Gareth started, hands crossed over his chest tightly.  “You didn’t even talk to us first!”
“Garebear, look at him.” Eddie said, placing both hands on his friend's face, turning it to look at Steve’s hunched form.
“Those big, sad, puppy-dog eyes.” Eddie continued, leaning in to whisper in Gareth’s ear. “The pathetic way he slouches.”
Eddie leaned even closer, lips tickling Gareth’s ear and making the latter swat at him.
He dropped his hands to Gareth’s shoulders, shaking him lightly.
“His giant empty house we can use for Hellfire meetings.”
“Is that seriously why you dragged him over here?” Gareth demanded, a little louder than he’d meant too, if Eddie’s abruptly tight grip was anything to go by.
“Of course not.” Eddie scoffed. “Rumor has it the guy throws money around for his friends and if we play our cards right, we can be the receiving end of that gravy train.”
Eddie grinned theatrically while he said it, staring into Gareth’s eyes like his smile alone would convince him to play along.
It was the fakest thing Gareth had ever seen on his best friends face.
“Don’t bullshit me man.” He said quietly, eyes narrowed. “What’s the actual reason you decided to go against your own doctrine and adopt Steve Harrington, of all people?”
Eddie’s eyes flicked to Harrington and back. “There’s no other--”
“Eddie.” Gareth snapped, a flash of his temper breaking through. “You’re my best friend. Don’t fucking lie to me like that.”
“Has anyone told you you’ve been using the word ‘fuck’ a lot, Gare?” Eddie muttered, but it was more subdued, the playful mask falling from his face.
As a matter of fact, Ms. Click had called him out on it that very morning, but Gareth knew better than to admit that and derail this conversation.
“Edwin Dale Munson.” Gareth growled, enjoying the way Eddie flinched from his full, government name.
“Sssh!” Eddie dropped his hands from Gareth’s shoulder to wave them in his face. “Fine, fine, look. Rumor has it he got cheated on, blew up his friendship with Hateful Hagan and Cocky Carol, and then took a beating from Hargrove. All in the same like, week.”
Eddie tugged at his hair, the movement harsh.
“I found him walking home in the dark the other day. Said something was wrong with his car, but Gareth.” Eddie paused, gnawing on his lower lip, before he stopped close once again, voice barely above a whisper.
“I had to coax him in my car and when he got in he kept flinching.”
“Flinching.” Gareth repeated.
“Like I was gonna hit him or something.” Eddie explained. “Worse Harrington’s house was dark when I got home. I mentioned to Wayne it didn’t look like anybody lived there and he said he was surprised anyone did. He thought the Harrington’s moved.”
“Okay.” Gareth said, not quiet following this part of the conversation.
“He thought they moved because some coworker of his wife worked for them as a house keeper or some shit. Said they bought a place in Chicago. She helped them pack.”
Another look, but this time Gareth had picked up on what was happening.
The flinching.
Not going with his parents.
Staying in Hawkins, when Harrington had a chance to get the hell out.
It didn’t paint a pretty picture.
“Shit.” Gareth said finally.
Eddie nodded. “Exactly.”
Together, they turned to stare at Harrington, who had hunched further into himself now that Eddie was gone from the table.
“If he turns on us I’m blaming you.” Gareth grumbled finally, and tried not to let the smile that broke out on Eddie’s face effect him.
“Glad to hear you’re on board, Garebear.” Eddie said, patting his shoulder hard.
“You’re a fucking teddy bear, you know that right?” Gareth continued as they turned to walk back to the table.
“Shut your mouth.” Eddie fired back.
“I don't think I will. In fact, Harrington!” Gareth spoke the jock’s name loudly, making the dude jerk and spill some of his soup.
Bruised eyes looked up at him and Gareth fired a smug right into Harrington’s face. “Wouldn’t you agree that Eddie here is a giant teddy bear?”
“Don’t answer that.” Eddie cut in, as Harrington blinked slowly, a puzzled look overtaking his face. “Gareth here has a big imagination.”
“Let the man give his own opinions. I’m sure he has some!”
Steve looked between them.
“I think I’ll plead the fifth.” He decided on.
“Smart man.” Jeff muttered, causing the rest of the table to snicker.
For the first time since he sat down, Gareth witnessed a small smile appear on Harrington’s face.

May have an eduardo x reader where eduardo is crying and reader asks if he wants a hug or not and he does end up hugging the reader it's just that he does it far a long time and they end up cuddling
Staring out the window, Eduardo saw Edd and his friends walking by his house, laughing and high-fiving each other. They seemed to be having such a good time.
A trio of good friends who were still together after all these years, with nobody missing.
And nobody dead..unlike...
'That jerk....why does he get to be happy but I can't?' He just gritted his teeth, before he closed his eyes and tried to imagine it never happened.
That he never lost Jon and that idiot was just sitting on the sofa behind him, twirling a drumstick.
But when he turned around, the furniture had no occupant.
"Damn it.." The tears started to fall as he heard Edd's obnoxious laughter, covering his ears so he didn't have to listen to the sound of his rival's happiness.
It wasn't fair.
Why was he like this?
He should've moved on by now. He should've been out there mocking Edd. Just like old times.
"Eduardo?"
Looking up, he saw you in front of him with a concerned expression. He tensed up, thinking you and Mark had gone out shopping.
After Jon died you moved in and took his room. Of course you felt terrible to hear of his death, even though you didn't know much about him.
While Mark recovered from the loss, Eduardo seemed to be stuck in this slump for years. You didn't know a lot about his friendship but obviously they must've been close for his death to still hit him this hard.
"If you're gonna tell me I should "go outside", you can shove it." Eduardo immediately got defensive. "Cause I'm not-"
"I was gonna ask if you wanted a hug." You cut in gently, offering your arms to him. "I mean..I know you're not much of a hugger but.."
"Do I look like..I-I need one to you?" Despite his attempts at being sarcastic, his voice cracked on the last word. And the tears kept falling.
You didn't buy it. "Yes. Eddie..I know you act like you're tough shit, but it's okay. It's only us here, so you can let it all out. I won't judge."
Eventually, he caved and accepted your offer. He only wanted to hug you for a quick second, but...your hold on him was so damn comforting he couldn't help but melt into it more.
With his head pressed against your shoulder, it didn't take long for him to let himself go. All of the pent-up sadness and anger finally making him break down into a sobbing mess in your arms.
In between sobs, he rambled about why he was such a horrible person and how it wasn't fair that everyone else around him can be happy but him. He didn't care how pathetic he sounded, he just needed to tell someone.
You simply listened and murmured sweet nothings, rubbing a hand up and down his back. 'Jeez..god only knows how badly he needed this.'
The hug lasted a lot longer than you expected. This man was holding onto you for dear life, but you couldn't blame him.
"You wanna move to the sofa so we can be more..uh..comfortable?" You suggested a few minutes later, heat rising to your cheeks as you didn't want him to get the wrong idea. But Eduardo just nodded, only letting go so you can lead him to the sofa.
After sitting down, you hugged him once more and he didn't resist whatsoever. Soon it turned into you both cuddling, his head resting on your shoulder again as he leaned on you entirely for support.
You hummed softly and ran your fingers through his hair this time, seeing that he was starting to calm down. "This okay?"
"Y-Yeah.." He sniffled. The hysterical crying had long passed, and he was exhausted as shit, so he didn't care about what you did.
"If it helps..I don't think you're a terrible person."
"You don't?"
"No, I mean..yeah you might've pushed Jon around a lot. But it sounds like he stayed because he cared about you...u-unless he was just stuck and had nowhere else to-"
"N-No, you're right. He could'a left anytime. But he stayed and...god I wish I never said those things to him." He was getting choked up again. "And I wish my stupid neighbor didn't a-act like...his friend didn't ruin my life."
You just nodded and listened, continuing to pet his hair. "I don't know much about that neighbor, but I'm sure Jon would forgive you if he was here."
Eduardo chuckled a little. "Yeah..h-he would be stupid enough to forgive this loser." He shut his eyes, still hugging you. "Thanks for being here, by the way."
"Of course." You smiled, glad that he realized he didn't need to bury his feelings anymore.
That he can confide in you anytime.

Summary: A kind stranger attempts to help you move stuff into your new apartment, but it doesn't go so smoothly.
a/n: credit to whoever made the gif. I had to get it off google because my internet was being really spotty for some reason.
Tumblr media
Unpacking the small U-haul was taking way longer than you anticipated. More boxes were scattered on the pavement than there were in your apartment. Strangers would stare and even whisper amongst themselves as they passed, and each time you sarcastically smiled and waved.
"Thanks, San Francisco. Very helpful."
Little did you know, someone was peering at you from their window, contemplating whether or not to help.
"They look frustrated. We should stay out of their way." Eddie said, quickly closing his window curtain.
"They're frustrated because they need help." Venom replied.
"How would you know?"
"I've seen movies, Eddie. We got out, help them, and then we fall in-"
"No. Absolutely not, man.  That's Hollywood. This is..." Eddie paused for a moment, "This is low budget Hollywood. That crap doesn't work here."
Venom was quiet for a moment before replying, "It might."
"It doesn't."
"Okay, and? We can help them and be friends. We need friends, Eddie. We are kind of sad."
"We're not....Speak for yourself."
"You're sad, Eddie. Very sad. It's a little pathetic, really."
"Stop talking."
"You cried while watching Mamma Mia."
"I- It was- It was a very touching musical. Leave me alone."
"Are we going to help?"
"I guess." Eddie sighed, "Beats getting picked on about my movie choices."
You had set another box down on the sidewalk and took in a deep breath. The U-Haul was almost empty, but for now, you were going to focus on taking boxes up to your apartment. The afternoon was beginning to fade into evening territory, and you/d be damned if you were out and about once it was dark.
You were about to pick up a stack of two boxes when you heard a voice. You stood up straight and your eyes landed on a rather scruffy looking man. You turned and looked behind you, thinking he was referring to someone behind you. With nobody behind you, you turned around and looked at the man once more.
"Hi, I'm Eddie. I- Uh, I live up there," he pointed to a closed window at the top floor.
You followed his gesture and noted the window at the top. You looked at his face again and he turned back to you.
"Just came out here to see if you needed any help." He awkwardly fiddled with the ends of his jacket sleeves, "Well, I mean I came out to help."
You scoffed a little bit before you walked back to some of your stuff, "You must've watched me struggle and thought I was pathetic." You picked up an antique looking framed painting, "Thank you, but no thanks."
The painting was a little larger than you remembered, and a little heavier. You tried to get a good grip on it, and Eddie being the gentleman he is, came over and put his hands on the other side of the frame, "It's no trouble. It's always nice to help out a neighbor."
Chalk it up to being tired, hungry, hot or just stressed, but you really didn't want this guy's help. You wanted him to piss off back to his own space. Besides, you've seen crime shows, this is how you wind up dead in an alley behind a diner.
"Again, I'm capable enough. Thank you." you tugged a little on the painting, hoping this dude would take the hint.
Eddie thought you were struggling, and held his side of the painting firm, "You just looked like-"
"What? A damsel in distress? I'm really okay. Trust me." You sighed as you tried to maintain your space and make the man leave.
Miscommunication is what caused the dominos to fall. You see, Eddie really thought you were exhausted and struggling to hold up the painting. He just wanted to help, but on your side of the coin, this man was a stubborn jackass could couldn't take no for an answer.
"Eddie, was it?" you blew some of your hair out of your face, "I really appreciate the gesture, but, I can get it. I don't have that much stuff."
"It's no biggie. I do this stuff all the time." Eddie cringed at how that came out, like he just waited for vulnerable people and he'd just swoop right in and save them, "No, I meant like, I just like being helpful."
The next domino fell, and then the third, and the fourth, and well, the rest. Amidst your one sided bickering, you had stumbled back and tripped over a box, landing flat on the cement. Eddie stumbled back with the painting and also tripped over a box. In his panic, he tried to stop the painting from falling on him, but his whole arm wound up going right through it, leaving a nasty hole right in the center.
Mortified, Eddie was frozen on the sidewalk. Let's hope this wasn't some sort of rare art piece you'd bought from a museum. Venom, on the other hand, thought it was a little amusing how clumsy Eddie could be.
"You did them a favor."
You had rolled over and propped yourself up with your elbows. You saw Eddie with his fist through the painting and it's like everything stopped.
"It was an ugly painting anyways."
You heard those words and immediately scrambled to your feet. You quickly made your way over to Eddie, and he was expecting you to be concerned about his well being, because he was just used to that reaction. Instead you pulled the canvas away from him and said, "You dick."
"It was an accident."
You shot daggers at him before quickly looking back at the canvas, "My grandmother painted this."
"Your-" Eddie swallowed his words and replaced them with, "Oh shit. I'm so sorry."
Eddie pushed himself up and tried to muster up a better apology, but he wound up stumbling over another box and landing right on his side.
"Just stay down." Venom sighed.
"Okay." Eddie said in a hoarse whisper.
If a human could physically curl up an die, he wanted to know so he could do just that. This had to be some sort of cruel joke, right? A literal nightmare scenario had just taken place.
"Are you normally this clumsy or is today a special occasion?" you spat as you picked up a single box and went inside, dragging the canvas with you.
“Today must be a special occasion.” Eddie sighed to himself.
Eddie hesitated and he groaned as he looked at the ground. This was not a good first impression. After a few minutes, he managed to pick himself up and that's when you came back out to get more stuff. You didn't look upset anymore, but that doesn't mean you were in a good mood either.
"Is there anyway I can-"
You shut the building's door before he could even finish. Childish, sure, petty, of course, but you weren't going to pay any mind to him. He was just some stranger that you'd had a bad encounter with. Just because he lived in the same building meant nothing to you.
Eddie, being unable to let it go, had gone against your requests, and found himself picking up a stack of boxes. Maybe he could make it up to you even a smidge by helping you this one time. He saw you just getting to the top of the stairs and he silently followed. Mentally, he was prepping all of these apologetic responses and ignoring anymore of Venom's "advice."
You had shut the door to your apartment, mostly as a precaution, leaving Eddie out in the corridor. He walked up to your door and set the stack of boxes down, and making his way back outside to repeat the process.
You had set the boxes back in an empty room and were you were heading out to get more. You had opened your door and bumped into a stack of boxes. You quickly put your hands on them to level them, and that's when you realized that the rest of your stuff was there.
You saw Eddie, who was holding the last box. He paused when he saw you, expecting you to flat out murder him for not listening, but it was your turn to be stunned. Eddie walked over and set the box down and rubbed the back of his neck as he held out a set of keys.
"I locked up that little trailer thing...Hope you don't mind."
You slowly took the keys from him, "Oh, thanks...Did you bring up my stuff?"
"Oh, that? Uh, yeah, I did. Thought it was the least I.. Not important." He took a step back and pointed over his shoulder, "I'll get out of your way now-"
You felt bad. Maybe you had over reacted a bit, "Hey, you wouldn't mind helping me bring the boxes in...Would you?" f
Eddie stared at you and then the boxes, "I don't mind."

The next morning found you down in the kitchen for breakfast, a silly grin on your face and a happy song on your lips.
Last night’s date had been...amazing. You didn’t know anyone could be that attentive and sweet and Marcus had blown even the Queen’s expectations out of the water.
You gave a happy twirl and goosebumps erupted over your skin as you remembered the hooded look in his eyes and the gentle way he had wooed you over the course of the evening.
It was way too soon for Love and you were still a bit wary and skittish of anything remotely romantic, especially with Vampires, this soon after the whole Carlisle debacle, but oh, did you wish and want whatever this was to come to fruition.
It was so nice to be appreciated and feel as if you were sought after.
“Sounds like someone had a good night,” Edward’s sudden voice came from behind you and you jumped with a yelp.
“Eddie!” you scolded, holding a hand over your heart, willing it to stay within your rib cage, “Don’t do that!”
To your surprise, Edward lifted his hands in the air, a serious look on his face.
“No harm meant, Y/N.”
Your brow furrowed- what the heck was his problem? It wasn’t like you thought he meant to scare you into an early grave.
Edward’s head tilted a little behind him and you looked over his shoulder to lock eyes with Jane.
“Oh, hello,” you said with a small, uncertain smile. The Volturi has all been incredibly welcoming and helpful, but the Witch Twins had been more standoffish than the rest.
Which you could understand. After all, you were a human, and an Unwanted Mate at that.
Edward’s eyes narrowed in your direction and you gave a small sigh.
Honestly, you loved Eddie like a brother but the mind reading thing was a bit tiresome at times.
And it wasn’t like you were wrong!
You were human and you were an Unwanted Bond Mate.
Simple as that. No amount of positive thinking or good self esteem was going to change that.
You turned your attention back to Jane as she shifted and stepped further into the kitchen.
“You are okay?” the blonde vampire asked emotionless, ruby eyes darting from you to Edward and back again.
You tried valiantly to tramp down the warmth that blossomed in your chest at her question.
It was nice to know that she cared, even if she was just asking out of what was probably duty to one of her Kings.
You were suddenly grateful that Jasper didn’t like you enough to hang around like Edward.
One invasive-talented vampire was enough.
A gentle throat clearing reminded you that you had yet to answer, so with a very red face, you assured her that you were fine.
Jane stared you down for a few moments, long enough for you to start fidgeting, before giving a single nod and disappearing.
You turned wide eyes to Edward who just shook his head with a chuckle.
“I have no idea,” he smirked and you rolled your eyes.
Uh huh. Sure.
“Where’s Bella this morning?” you asked curiously as you continued to make your breakfast.
“Packing for our return trip,” Edward said quietly after a moment and you froze, all happy thoughts of Marcus disappearing as it dawned on you.
They were returning to Forks.
You probably should too.
Your mind started to race. What was it going to be like, back in Forks with the Cullens? Could you even stand to see them every day? Would their sudden apologetic and sad demeanors make you give in when you should stay strong or would their attitudes change back to how they were once you were out of Italy? Did you even want to stay in Forks? What if you didn’t have your job when you got back? What if you never recovered from being an Unwanted? What if—
A cold hand was suddenly on your shoulder and you were drawn back into a gentle, brotherly embrace.
“Breathe, Y/N,” Edward murmured into your hair. “Just breathe for a few moments, okay?”
You nodded as best you could with your head tucked into his chest, but dutifully took a few deep breaths.
Why were you like this?
You were pretty sure that normal people wouldn’t be freaking out over a sentence as simple as, “She’s packing”.
Then again, what exactly was normal anymore? Since apparently vampires existed and had their own version of the Mafia.
Edward snorted and you gave a somewhat shaky smile.
Well, at least you were entertaining to someone.
“You are not going to be forced to go back with us, Y/N,” Edward said softly after a few quiet moments. “I am sure that Aro would welcome you here.”
You raised your head to frown at the vampire. “I am not going to be a charity case.”
To your surprise, Edward actually rolled his eyes.
“Aro thinks many things about you, Y/N, but charity case is not one of them.”
You blushed at the slight reprimand and burrowed your face back into Edward’s chest.
A gentle hand ran through your hair and Edward added quietly, “There are a lot of people who care for you, Y/N. Never forget that. And those same people would do everything in their power to make sure you were taken care of and provided for. You have a way of endearing yourself to people quickly and we vampires are no different. Those that want to take care of you do so because of you and who you are, not because of any sort of pity.”
That warmth was back, unfurling in your chest like a flower blooming on a warm spring day.
You squeezed the vampire in front of you in a tight hug, mentally sending your thanks.
You needed to hear that.
“Anytime,” came Edward’s murmur and then you found yourself suddenly seated at the table in a rush of wind.
Your forgotten breakfast was placed in front of you with the order to eat.
“You’ll feel even better when you have something on your stomach. And then you can decide if you want to stay or come back to Forks.”
You weren’t exactly sure what epiphany Edward thought your food would give you, but by the time you had finished eating, you still were no closer to figuring out what to do.
Should you stay or should you go?
What really was waiting for you back in Forks?
But then, what was really waiting for you here?
You gave a soft growl, a pathetic sounding one compared to the ones the vampires could produce, but it made you feel marginally better.
Maybe you could just go...live in England on your own. No vampires, no Mates, no supernatural.
Just the English countryside, horseback riding and rain.
You smiled big, this was a great solution!, and turned back to Edward who was looking at you in a mixture of both amusement and disbelief.
“Y/N,” he started after a moment, “what on Earth makes you think that’s going to be an option for you?”
Your jaw dropped.
“An option for me?” you parroted. “I’m a grown ass woman! Why wouldn’t it be an option?!”
Edward snorted in pure amusement now and took a seat across from you at the table.
“Y/N, there are too many vampires interested in your well being to let you go off on your own somewhere. And,” he continued, holding up a hand when you opened your mouth to interrupt him, “English is very wet, very rainy and very cloudy. Not the ideal place to try and get away from creatures that thrive in the shadows.”
You snapped your mouth shut.
The man had a point there.
Which kinda sucked. What a good excuse to move to the UK.
“Why don’t you come back with us, Y/N?” Edward suggested when your thoughts didn’t leave England.
Your eyes locked onto tawny gold.
“At least for a little while. That will give you a chance to get everything in order if you don’t decide to stay.”
You studied his face while you thought it over.
It would be good for you to go back. Get back to the familiar and comforting.
And maybe even get on with your life.
Although…
“I know it sounds kinda crazy, Edward, it being so soon and all, but I’m going to really miss everyone here.”
The mind reader picked up on exactly who you would miss the most and he gave a gentle smile.
“I can assure you the sentiment would be returned, if he wasn’t going along.”
You blinked once. Twice. Three times.
And then, “Wait, what?”
Edward leaned back in his chair, an air of smugness radiating from him.
“Marcus. King Marcus. The one with the beautiful eyes and the amazingly kind heart you haven’t stopped thinking about?”
You blushed red at that.
“He decided to come along with us to Forks,” Edward continued, “if you had decided to join us.”
“But why?” you asked in genuine confusion. Why would he want to go to Forks of all places?
Edward leveled you with a look that said, ‘Really?’
You leveled a look right back at him.
“He’s known me for a few days, Eddie. And we’ve had one date- if you can technically even call it that. Seems a little premature for him to go galavanting across half the globe for someone he just met.”
Edward leaned in, elbows on the table and face serious and close to yours.
“Y/N. Listen and listen good. You are worth it. Whatever my sire has said and done, however my coven has treated you, forget about it. I told you- you endear yourself to people quickly. The Volturi are no different. What they feel for you is true and all because of you. Bonded or no, Unwanted or no, they care for you. As do I. Don’t be so hard on yourself or surprised that Marcus would travel with you to Forks. There are more that would come if they could.”
“Young Edward is right,” a low, gravelly voice said from the doorway and you snapped your head over to see Marcus standing there, Volturi robes blending in with the shadowed doorway.
“You sell yourself much too short, Cara Mia. I am going with you to Forks because I wish to. Because I do not want you to have to face Carlisle and his coven alone. And because I very much want to see where this attraction between us may lead.”
Marcus stepped into the room and slowly made his way to your side before lowering himself elegantly to his knees.
“However,” he continued quietly, “should you wish me not to go, I will remain here in Volterra.”
You blinked dumbly at him.
“You mean, I have a say in this?” you asked in surprise.
Edward made an odd sound and Marcus looked stricken.
“Y/N,” he said earnestly, “you will always have a choice.”
You looked between the two of them and then your eyes went wide.
“No, that’s not what I meant! I mean it was, but not necessarily like that! Just...it is surprising to me that I would have a say in whether you went to Forks or not, because...well, of the obvious.”
“Why would you think you wouldn’t have an input into whether I accompanied you to Forks or not?” Marcus asked quietly.
You rose a brow. “You mean other than the fact that you’re a King? A Vampire one at that? You can go wherever you want- why would my opinion matter? I’m just me- human and decidedly not a royal.”
“But perhaps I am just Marcus- a man trying to woo a woman he’s beginning to care very deeply for. A man who wouldn’t want to press his luck and go anywhere he wasn’t welcome.”
Silence reigned in the kitchen. Marcus was looking intently at you, you were gaping probably quite unattractively back at him, and Edward was pretending to be engrossed in the ceiling to give you two the illusion of privacy.
“Y/N,” Marcus whisperer, cold hand lifting to gently cup your cheek. “May I accompany you to Forks? And act as your Protector?”
Edward’s attention was now focused intensely on the two of you, but you paid him no mind, your own attention captivated by the King kneeling at your feet.
“Yes,” you finally managed to murmur. “Please.”
A soft smile curled the edges of the Vampire King’s mouth and he smoothly stood.
“Then I have preparations to finish. I shall see you when we depart tonight, Y/N. Until then.”
With a kiss to the back of your hand, he was gone in a swirl of robes and a gust of wind.
Dazedly, you wondered if Aro’s flamboyance was contagious.
After a few minutes, you snapped out of it and looked over to see Edward looking at you with an unreadable expression.
“...What?” you asked cautiously.
“King Marcus,” Edward started, before stopping, his expression warring somewhere between joy and caution.
“King Marcus what?” you finally demanded when it seemed he wouldn’t say anything else.
“He asked to be your Protector.”
“Yeah? And?”
“And you agreed.”
“Yeah? And?!”
Edward’s honey gaze met your own.
“And he has formally claimed you. He is your Protector and you are his Charge. Your battles are his battles, your enemies are his enemies. He wants nothing more than your safety and happiness.”
You gaped as Edward leaned forward to add lowly, “He would now die for you.”

Misery Loves Company || Alfie & Mina
Timing: Last week. Location: Residential woods near Dark Score Lake Parties: @drowningisinevitable & @yikesimonfire  Summary: Alfie and Mina have more in common than they realize, but it’s probably for the best. Content: internalized homophobia and mentions of domestic abuse
Ever since Bex showed her pretty little face, Alfie’s life had taken a sharp decline for the worse. It wasn’t her fault — he understood that on some level — but he needed someone to blame. These days, Alfie couldn’t stand being in his own home. Their laughter haunted him from the adjacent apartment, echoing incessantly at all hours; reminding him of how unimportant he truly was.
Eddie had gone years (their entire time as neighbors, in fact) without dating anyone. Suddenly, she was there all of the time. There was no longer any room for Alfie to be a part of Eddie's life. At least, that's what he managed to convince himself. The truth was that the lovebirds did try to include Alfie. It was he who shut them out, unable to bear being around them.
Alfie would never admit it, but he was heartbroken.
What good would it do to confess? What difference would it make? Absolutely none. He was in love with someone who, for reasons beyond their control, would never love him back. Alfie knew he would be forced to make peace with it eventually, but it was all so… sudden.
He'd taken it upon himself to evacuate his apartment as Bex and Eddie’s sickening coos seeped through the paper-thin walls; seeking comfort instead from the disheveled cabin he'd come to possess. It was an older building, unkempt throughout the span of his life — this life. Twenty-six or some odd years ago, the house was probably in its prime. But rot had since set into the wooden beams. The porch creaked, threatening to collapse under Alfie's weight as he traipsed the threshold.
By some miracle, the place still had electricity. The water pressure was almost nonexistent; not that Alfie had much of a need for it. However, in light of recent events, the bare minimum was no longer sufficient.
He intended to stay — at least more often.
With a hammer in hand, Alfie attempted to pry corroded nails from the patio’s dry-rotted boards. The metal fought against him, breaking under the pressure, and left fragments of the rusted nails tightly embedded in the wood. Great. First he can't stay at his own apartment without being reminded of his grief, and now he has to deal with this?!
"Mother fucker," Alfie grumbled, striking the porch with the hammer. "Can't I have one good thing for once? Just one!" The platform quivered beneath him, ignoring his plea, and Alfie collapsed onto his back in a pathetic heap. "Fine. Do whatever you want. I don't care anymore," he told the house. "I could set you on fire, you realize that, right? It'll look like an accident… I could probably collect the insurance payment." An idle threat to an inanimate object was pointless, but at least it made him feel a little better. The house wasn't insured, anyway.
Tumblr media
The house was stuffy from disuse, but Mina found that she didn’t particularly mind. She opened up the windows. It would be fine. Her dad, when he first found the place, hadn’t signed the lease for her because he thought it was quaint or because it was modern. It was livable enough, it was close to a water source, and it would be a good base for the two of them when he returned to White Crest for them to set up shop. Well, now, at least, it was still livable enough.
Mina didn’t particularly care about livability. She was just looking for a place to sleep that didn’t remind her of Bex. The house was small and barren, save for a few clothes that she’d left and a tiny amory’s worth of weapons in the spare room. She had the windows open to allow fresh air to come in, and she was sitting at the small kitchen’s counter, sleeves rolled up while she was wrapping bandages around her arm. She encountered a chimera in the woods the night before, some wretched conglomeration of an actual wolf, a cockatrice, and a flederprey that had managed to get a few good hits in before she put it out of its misery. It hadn’t even been hard. She hadn’t even thought about it.
That was kind of the goal, these days. Mina just wanted to work and fight and run until exhaustion took her, sometimes in the middle of the night, crashing face first into a stream. She’d ruined a lot of clothes, recently.
The sound of cursing from the usually empty house next door startled Mina from what she was doing. She pulled her sleeves down and looked outside. It was a young man, about her age, that she’d seen a few times over the last two years. They’d waved but never really talked. He didn’t stay for long. She didn’t mind. She wasn’t overly good at socializing; it had been years since she’d practiced good neighbor etiquette.
But he seemed to be having a hard time. Sighing, Mina headed outside, walking the distance between their little houses. She made sure to make plenty of noise, so as not to startle him too bad when she called out, “Everything alright?”
Tumblr media
Alfie hadn’t meant to attract attention from the neighbors. In fact, he didn’t even realize the young woman from the house over still lived there. The few times he’d been over recently, the other house seemed entirely vacant; not that it was any of his business. As the brush crunched underneath her feet, signaling her approach, Alfie bolted upright.
Nothing was alright, he wanted to state. But the girl was probably less concerned about his personal relationships than his assault on his porch.
“Oh, sure, sure,” Alfie lied with ease. “Just trying to fix the place up is all. It’s, uh… not going too well.” That was evident from the fact that he was trying to remove a board while he was sitting on it. He had no idea what he was doing.
A heavy sigh escaped him before he tossed the hammer to the side, maneuvering himself to sit on the edge of the porch. “Actually— that’s not true,” Alfie admitted. “I mean… it is true to an extent. Mostly, I’m just taking out my frustration on the woodwork.” Why did he just say that? She didn’t care. She couldn’t possibly care. Yet, here he was, unloading his baggage onto a complete stranger because he found himself without a single friend in the world that he felt he could air his grievances to.
“Everything’s shit,” he added with a shrug. After a moment, Alfie realized the weight of his words and offered her a small, apologetic smile. “Sorry, that’s… probably not something I should have shared.” His hand reached behind him, nervously rubbing the back of his neck, as his eyes shifted to her own house. “I haven’t seen you around recently. Didn’t know you were still living there.”
Tumblr media
“I see,” Mina said slowly, looking at the young man as he attempted to… she didn’t know what he was attempting, actually. Something with the porch. It didn’t seem to be working in his favor, more a cause of frustration than proper work. And then he got to the problem, and she nodded her head in understanding. “Ah, that makes more sense. Things are actually going quite poorly for me, too, but I’ve been going out most nights in an effort to try and exhaust myself into sleeping.”
That wasn’t what Mina wanted to say. At all. Frowning, she rocked on her heels a bit. That amount of open honesty wasn’t what she wanted to share with this guy that was practically a stranger, but she hadn’t been able to stop the words from tumbling from her lips in an uncharacteristic overshare.
“I’m sorry that it’s like that,” Mina said, trying to start again. She rubbed at her arms. “It’s okay. I mean, if you’d like to talk about it, I have no one to tell.” She followed his gaze, looking at the place that she couldn’t call home. Not now, not really. “I’ve been staying with some friends, actually. I got hurt pretty bad a couple of months ago-- fell off a cliff, I don’t recommend-- but.” She felt like she had to physically stop herself from saying too much. She cleared her throat. “I couldn’t stand to be there because it reminds me of someone I miss, and I don’t want to feel like a burden, so I decided I should stay here more often.”
Something was definitely wrong, Mina decided. She couldn’t stop blurting out the truth. “I apologize. Now, ah, I seem to be the one that’s oversharing,” she said, trying to laugh off the intense embarrassment that she felt.
Tumblr media
Alfie raised his brows in concern as his pseudo-neighbor shared her own woes. Unfortunately, he understood the lack of sleep all too well at this point. A sad smile tugged at the corners of his lips as she continued. Interrupting her would have been rude. Instead, he nodded along, making minimal eye contact. His heart sank deeper into his stomach as the young woman explained why she’d returned to the little house in the woods. It was all too similar to his own reasoning for being here now.
But then she was apologizing and the emptiness he felt on behalf of both of them mixed with guilt. “No, no!” Alfie quickly interjected. “There’s no need to apologize, really. I, uh… I hate to hear that.” He wanted to assure her that he was going through something similar. That she wasn’t alone in her grief. That he understood how it must have felt that her entire world was falling apart because so was his. But he couldn’t bring himself to say any of it.
Instead, Alfie scooched over before gingerly patting the spot beside him. He wouldn’t have blamed her for not taking a seat, but at that moment, it seemed like the right thing to do.
“That’s why I’m here too,” he croaked feebly. “I mean — sort of.” Alfie cleared his throat; his eyes fixed on the ground. It was probably strange, but he felt obligated to share the source of his own misery with her now. “I live— I have an apartment downtown, but… I can’t stand being there anymore.” His brows knit together as a tight knot formed in his throat, threatening to choke him. Before he knew it, his nose stung and he let out a strangled sigh, preceding a sniffle. “Because I hear them, you know? Talking — laughing — and I just… That should be me.”
Alfie’s voice cracked and he forced a terse laugh. “Sorry… I sound ridiculous, don’t I? Unloading all of this while you’ve got your own things to worry about.” He hadn’t told anyone about this until now. “I’m glad you’re okay. I mean, y’know… after the whole cliff thing. That obviously doesn’t help what you’re going through now, but…” Say it, he mentally berated himself. Just say it already.
“You’re not alone,” he added finally.
Tumblr media
“I usually don’t talk this much,” Mina said. “I seem to be having trouble with-- with my words.” The last time she’d gotten like this, she’d been young, and she’d lied about things to the point of being quite sick, and then she just overshared everything. It had been embarrassing and ridiculous, and she’d had to find new ways to get around the constantly spouting out the truth. She hoped that wasn’t happening now; it would just be the icing on top of the cake of how bad things were going.
She moved to sit beside him, lowering herself onto the porch gingerly. Mina was bruised all over, and it wasn’t broken bones, but she still ached. She ached in her chest, too. “It’s better out here. I’m not reminded of-- of everything.” Of good times and bad times and all the little moments in between. Of sitting by the pool, and doing homework in the kitchen, and falling asleep on the couch.
Breathing out a sigh, Mina shook her head. “You hardly sound ridiculous. That sounds-- sounds achingly familiar, wanting to be away from somewhere that you can’t stand.” She wondered who these people were that made the young man beside her so sad.
“Would you believe me if I said the cliff feels like a rather minor thing, all things considered? Which, now, that sounds ridiculous because the water would have killed me, and I can’t even drown but I was drowning.” Stop talking, Mina told herself, but she couldn’t. “But this just feels so much worse because I knew the cause of that pain, but now I’m in pain, and it’s so stupid, it’s utterly stupid because I didn’t think I could feel like this.” She cleared her throat. “Now that’s ridiculous,” she finished softly. “But thank you. I appreciate that.” Even if she was alone. Even if she was making herself alone.
Tumblr media
“Yeah, me neither,” Alfie scoffed. For the most part, Alfie preferred to keep to himself. He was meticulously careful about what he said, how he said it, and who he said it to. Not even his family knew much about him. At least, not the developments over the past few years; more than half a decade now. The only two people that could contend this were Nell and Eddie. Even then, there was still a lot he couldn’t bring himself to tell them.
A deep frown etched into his features as he listened to the other speak. He might not have been aware of her situation, but it eerily mirrored his own. Alfie missed his friend — his best friend. He missed the sound of Eddie’s laugh when he said something stupid, whether intentional or not. He missed sitting beside him on the sofa and the feeling of their shoulders pressed together. He missed hearing the balcony door creak open. He missed Bucket. In retrospect, only a handful of days had gone by since Alfie started pulling away. Bex took everything from him in one fell swoop.
Alfie didn’t know what the girl sitting beside him had (and was) going through, but it wasn’t unreasonable for her to feel that falling off of a cliff wasn’t as crushing as her current situation. “Not ridiculous,” he spoke finally; his voice small. Her confession of not being able to drown didn’t even register — at least, not in the way she meant it. Alfie was all too familiar with death-by-water that the passing comment hardly struck him as odd. He wanted to comfort her. To let her get everything out. It helped to talk about things that upset you. Or, so he’d been told. But in the same regard, he wanted to selfishly do the same. Maybe he could do both…
“It fucking sucks,” Alfie emphatically stated as he threw his hands into the air before letting them drop back to his lap with a light thud. “To hurt so badly and know that there’s nothing you can do to make it any better. To not be able to bear being in your own home because everything reminds you of this person. Because you know you shouldn’t love him the way you—” There it was: the precise feeling Alfie tried so desperately to not put a name on.
Alfie swallowed the knot that formed in his throat. His shoulders drooped, eyes still staring at the ground, and he leaned forward with a sigh. “Not that— I don’t mean that I think you’re hurting because of some guy. I—” Slowly, Alfie dragged a palm down his face before he cupped his chin. “Projecting, I guess.”
Tumblr media
“It-- Yes, yes,” Mina agreed because it did. It fucking sucked. “And it’s not like being out of the house helps. Being here is nice, but it’s a temporary solution.” The only thing that truly helped was moving, constantly moving, fighting and helping and protecting and moving until she couldn’t move anymore. She was so exhausted that it was weighing her down like lead, but even the exhaustion didn’t make it go away. The scrapes and bruises didn’t make it go away.
Mina looked at this guy, this young man that she’d only ever really talked to in passing, and she couldn’t help but think of what a pair they made. But of them so utterly dejected and hurt and unable to feel comfortable in their own homes, both of them aching.
Leaning forward with her elbows on her knees, Mina shook her head and laughed, but there wasn’t any joy in it. “Not a guy, no, just a girl who I gave my heart to without realizing it.” And she hadn’t realized it because she hadn’t thought it was possible, really, to care about someone that much. She couldn’t. She couldn’t. But she could, apparently, and it just ached. “It just aches,” she said out loud. “And I don’t even blame her for it. I’m not mad, just… I’m not mad.” Being mad would be pointless, and it wouldn’t make this stop. Nothing would.
“Do you want to talk about this guy that you were trying to project onto me?” Mina asked, trying to keep her voice light but genuinely concerned. He seemed to need to talk, and she didn’t want to risk even more words spilling out without her wanting them to.
Tumblr media
Alfie gave a knowing nod. As much relief he found here, there was just as much sadness. To a certain degree, he hated it here more. The weight of his self-proclaimed curse lived within those four walls behind him. At least back at his apartment he had means of distraction.
When she explained what her own pain was linked to, Alfie’s head turned slightly towards her. They were in the exact same boat. "Yeah," he muttered, an empathetic frown flashing across his features. "Me too." It wasn't Eddie's fault that he didn't reciprocate Alfie's feelings. It wasn't his fault that he couldn't care for him in the exact same way. Eddie cared — of course he did. He offered Alfie friendship without hesitation. And even when Alfie tried to keep himself at a distance, Eddie never relented. How could he possibly be mad about that? If anything, it only made Alfie love him more.
“I wouldn’t even know where to begin,” Alfie sighed. His feelings for Eddie were years in the making. Where was he supposed to start? The beginning? The first time they crossed paths as new neighbors? The first time Eddie dragged himself home from a shitty part-time job, pizza box in hand, and offered it to Alfie? The first time he crossed the boundary between their balconies and let himself into Alfie’s apartment? “He’s straight, for one thing. Not exactly fair of me to be as wrecked as I am, huh? I always knew that— that it would never work out.”
“I thought I’d made peace with it until he started seeing someone. A girl… obviously. Since… y’know… straight.” Alfie fumbled over his words, wringing his hands as he spoke. “Then, everything just sucked. I— I knew why it upset me pretty immediately. Not that I could tell him that. He’d probably resent me for it. And besides, it wouldn’t change anything.” Because he’s straight, Alfie almost reiterated. “So now I’m just some gay cliche; pining after my best friend.” Losing him because of it. He’d lose him either way. There was no winning.
Tumblr media
“I’m rather of the mindset that nothing’s particularly fair,” Mina said, her voice dry. It wasn’t fair that she was unable to be comfortable in her own skin. It wasn’t fair that Bex felt like she had to go back to her parents when she wasn’t safe there. It wasn’t fair that Mina was stuck on her when Bex clearly didn’t feel the same. “It’s very hard to stop yourself from liking someone once you’ve started doing it, even if that was never the intention. Not like that, at least.”
Or maybe it was just that Mina couldn’t stop once she thought it was reciprocated. She’d been able to stop herself before, from caring about people. It hadn’t been hard; no one had ever cared about her. Not like that. And everytime she thought she might be genuinely attracted to one of the younger hunters that she and her dad had worked with, she reminded herself that she couldn’t and that they’d never feel that way about her. It helped when they confirmed these thoughts. They always did.
But Mina allowed herself to fall, hard and fast and reckless, and it had been wonderful, and it had been devastating, and, as soon as she came to terms with it, it had been hell. There’s nothing quite like seeing that the person who you’d do absolutely anything for already in a serious, public relationship with someone else.
“I don’t know much about cliches, unfortunately,” Mina said, “but, if it makes you feel any better, I’m in love--” in love, in love, in love, and even the thought of it ached in its sincerity because there was no lie, “-- with someone that moved on so fast I think it gave me actual whiplash.”
Tumblr media
Alfie’s heart ached at her words. He tried desperately to not have feelings for Eddie, but they always crept back up at the most inconvenient times. It was never anything more than attraction, or so he thought. But as time went by and he opened himself up to the other man, it was impossible for Alfie to deny that he’d formed a crush on his neighbor. To hear that this feeling was not exclusive to him was almost comforting. At least, as comforting as two forlorn and pining people could be to each other.
“You were in a relationship, then?” Alfie asked, trying to maintain a steady voice. That seemed worse than what he was going through. No matter how much physical affection Eddie gave him, it never came with a label. Why would it? That was just how Eddie was; physical.
Alfie recalled the first time he met Bex and how quickly he assumed she’d spent time canoodling with Eddie on the couch. No matter how much he tried to push the idea aside and brush it off as something that Eddie usually did with friends, he couldn’t help feeling jealous that he wasn’t the only one to receive that sort of attention from him. The moment Bex showed up at Eddie’s doorstep with a gift, Alfie should have known that it would lead to something more than friendship.
“I’m sorry. I can’t imagine how that must feel,” Alfie stated. But he could. He did. All too well, in fact.
He thought about reaching out to give her a consoling pat on the shoulder. That’s what people did, right? Used physical touch to make someone feel better? Alfie didn’t know much about that. He usually just wanted to be left alone when he was upset. Maybe she shared this feeling, too. Instead, Alfie decided to ask more questions that might help. “Have you talked to her about it? I mean — that’s a dumb question, huh? I’m sure you have if you were in love.” Are in love, he remembered.
Tumblr media
“We… didn’t really call it anything,” Mina said. And they hadn’t. I want you. They wanted each other. Bex had hurt someone for her. “I mean, we kissed and we spent a lot of time together, and I don’t know how to fall asleep without her around, but we never-- We didn’t call it a relationship.”
Bex was Mina’s best friend. She was one of the most important people in Mina’s life, and she’d worked her way into that position in a very, very short amount of time. It was terrifying, how much Mina cared about Bex. It was terrifying how much she’d do for her. Having a name for it didn’t make it any easier. Sometimes, it made it worse.
“It’s okay, you don’t have to apologize.” It hurts. It hurts. Mina said, “It hurts, but I don’t think I would trade it? I wouldn’t trade it, actually.” It was devastating, but there was a part of her that was in awe over the fact that she could feel something that she just hadn’t thought was possible for her entire life. It made the hurt worth it.
“Absolutely not,” Mina said. “She doesn’t-- We’re not really talking. About that. Any of that. I don’t know if I could, really, at this point. It’d probably just make this worse. That tends to be what I do, most of the time. Make things worse. It always feels like I make things worse.” She swallowed back words, all of them too much, just wanting to spill from her throat without her permission. She changed course instead. “I didn’t introduce myself. I never have, actually, despite how long it’s been. My name is Mina. Wilhelmina Fitzroy, actually, but that’s rather long, isn’t it? Just Mina is fine.”
Tumblr media
“Oh,” Alfie said, pretending to understand how two people could kiss without “calling it anything”. It was normal, right? One night stands. Friends with benefits. Then again, he supposed those were labels. Maybe there was a label that applied here — not that it was any of his business. Just because he liked to assign words to things didn’t mean everyone else had to.
Whatever their relationship entailed, it baffled Alfie. Clearly, she was emotionally suffering. Why wouldn’t she want to trade that if she could? Given the chance, Alfie would have easily traded his feelings towards Eddie for a normal friendship with him. That’s what Eddie wanted, after all — for things to be normal between them. For his best friend to not disappear the second his girlfriend came around. If he could give Eddie that kind of friendship, he would; even if — especially if — it meant no longer having feelings for him.
Alfie frowned when she mentioned feeling that she had a knack for making things worse. Admittedly, he doubted that was true, but he couldn’t exactly tell her that she didn’t. He didn’t know her, aftall. So when she offered a proper introduction before he had a chance to find the appropriate thing to say, Alfie was grateful. “Mina,” he repeated as he flashed her a smile and extended his hand for her to shake. “Alfie,” he stated simply before elaborating. “Actually, if it makes you feel any better, my full name’s Alfonzo Ramirez. Just as much of a mouthful. But, uh… It’s a pleasure to officially meet you, Mina.”
Tumblr media
“She was my best friend,” Mina said quickly, the words coming out in a desperate attempt to try and explain. “And then she was more, and now she’s everything and nothing at all.” And that’s somehow what Bex had become. Because Mina would still do anything for her; that hadn’t changed. But Bex was unreachable. Even if they still talked sometimes. Even if she still acted like she cared, sometimes.
Did the explanation even help? Honestly, Mina didn’t know. It didn’t change anything. It wasn’t any sort of revelation that finding out that she was actually in love had been. It was just undeniable truth. She knew it to be true like she knew mathematical theory, like she knew most of Einuadi’s pieces by heart, like she knew the sting of cold iron slashing and burning through skin. She knew it intimately. It wasn’t a groundbreaking thing, to say the words out loud. It just made her sad.
“It’s nice to meet you, officially, Alfie,” Mina said, shaking his hand. It was warm, hot, even. She wondered if he had a fever, but he seemed alright. “I wish it was under better circumstances for both of us, though. “What about you and your friend?im sorry about the girlfriend, and all of that, but… I don’t think you should be so hard on yourself, for falling in love with him, or for feeling like you can’t be around him. If he’d resent you for your feelings, then I don’t know if he’s a good friend at all.”
Tumblr media
Who knew a simple phrase like “she was my best friend” could hit Alfie so profoundly? Eddie might not have been anything more than that — his best friend — but the sentiment resonated more than Alfie wanted to admit. Would the same ring true for their friendship soon enough? Would Eddie somehow become “everything and nothing at all” for him? He didn’t want that. He wanted his best friend. No girlfriends. No boyfriends. He just wanted Eddie. Why couldn’t it be that simple?
“The pleasure’s all mine,” Alfie assured before releasing Mina’s hand and wiping his palm against his pant leg. He hadn’t realized how clammy he was until his skin came in contact with hers. With any luck, she didn’t notice — or if she had, he hoped she wasn’t completely repulsed by him now. The fact that she continued the conversation by asking him more about his situation was probably a good sign, right? “My friend,” he reiterated with a forced chuckle.
“It’s complicated.” Far more complicated than Alfie knew how to put into words. As it turned out, Eddie didn’t resent him for having feelings for him. It would have been easier if he did. No matter how hard Alfie tried to pretend that his relationship with Bex had little to no effect on him, he failed. Miserably. It didn’t take long at all for the other man to piece everything together; he read Alfie like a book. Eddie still wanted to be friends, that much was certain, but he needed it to work out with Bex. Whatever that meant. It would be good for him. It was what he wanted. So, Alfie had to accept it no matter how much it killed him.
“But, uh… thank you. It means a lot, really. It’s not that—” Alfie allowed himself to trail off, his shoulders drooping once again with a deep sigh. “He doesn’t resent me, though. I wish he did, but… He’s a really good guy. He doesn’t get enough credit for just how good he is, actually. In fact, I don’t think he even realizes it. I should have told him more, y’know? Before… before all of this. And from what I can tell, she’s a really nice girl.” As he spoke, Alfie’s eyes wandered further away from Mina, deciding that the tufts of grass, dirt, and leaves around the porch were somehow interesting. “He deserves someone good — someone like him. I was always shit to him, anyway.”
Tumblr media
“Complicated is… familiar,” Mina murmured in response. Because things had never been not been complicated. There had never really been a moment when things had been going well. There had always been something. Warden ex-boyfriends, out of control werewolves, homicidal selkies, houses falling down, a mother that treated her daughter like prey. Nothing had ever been easy. And then it was gone, and all that was left was feelings and hurt and dreams that lingered and shifted themselves into nightmares. So Mina tried not to sleep much. She was always so tired.
“You don’t have to thank me,” she said quickly. Even if Mina didn’t know how to twist people’s thanks into favors, it was better to play it safe. “Please don’t. Thank me.” She glanced over at him, tired and as sad as she was, and she rubbed at her injured arm hidden under her sleeves. “I’m glad he doesn’t resent you, and that he’s kind and good, though I know that doesn’t lessen your pain. Trust me, I know.” She knew all too well. She knew what it was like to just want someone to be happy.
Alfie’s words were cutting, even if he didn’t realize it. Mina also thought that Bex deserved someone good. And the Youtube guy (Eddie, his name was Eddie) seemed good. He seemed kind. He was funny and probably really easy to be around, and he probably didn’t keep things from her. He was probably human. He could probably give Bex more than Mina ever could. “I--” Her voice was higher than she wanted it to be. She cleared her throat. “I get that. I do.” She did. She did. She did.
Tumblr media
Eddie’s goodness did not, in fact, lessen Alfie’s pain, just as their conversation the day after the fateful karaoke night hadn’t. Everything was confusing. He’d never been more uncertain of anything in his life and he’d… well, he’d lived more lives than he cared to admit. He wondered if it was ever simple for him, but highly doubted that was the case.
On the other hand, Mina asking that he not thank her was also not something that Alfie was able to successfully process. “I mean it, though,” he continued with a gentle smile. “Talking with you… it’s been nice.” He hadn’t even been this forthright when it came to talking to his sister, Leah. She knew more specifics than Mina did, but until now he hadn’t allowed anyone to really know how the entire situation made him feel — Eddie didn’t even get an actual confession.
“It’s gonna get better, Mina. Things suck now, but it’ll get better. For both of us. I promise.”
Tumblr media
Mina managed a small smile. “It has been nice. All the same, you shouldn’t thank me. It’s-- This has been nice for me, too, in a weird, kind of painful way. There’s nothing to thank, truly.” And maybe that was a bit more information than was needed, but still. It was true. Of course it was true. All she could manage was the truth.
Eyes widening at the promise, Mina stood up. “No. I release you from that promise. Don’t promise things like that.” There wasn’t much of a chance that things were going to get better than they already were. Not for her. She was stuck like this for the rest of her life. It was luck that she’d managed to do it once, fall in love. She didn’t want to do it again. She couldn’t do it again. She couldn’t.
“I hope… I hope it gets better for you, Alfie. I really do.” Mina gave him a sad smile. “But you shouldn’t make promises to people that can’t be kept. It’s dangerous. Especially around here.” Especially with people like me. “I-- It was really nice talking to you. I appreciate you talking with me.”
Tumblr media
Alfie should have known better than to go around making idle promises to strangers in the woods, but here he was. As soon as Mina interjected, giving him a proper scolding all the same, Alfie’s eyes widened. Fae — she had to be. No one could grow up in the Ramirez family without learning how to keep themselves safe from all harm. Nevermind how disappointed his parents would have been if they knew, Leah would be upset enough for the both of them. The thought made him chuckle, although his timing wasn’t so appropriate.
“Sorry, sorry… I— mmm…” Alfie pursed his lips together as he carefully rose from the porch. The less he said the better, right? “I hope everything works out for you, then.” Were wishes a fae thing? Shit, he couldn’t remember. Even so, that couldn’t have counted as a wish, right? “Sorry,” he murmured again. Fae or not, she seemed alright in his book. Granted, his knowledge was far more limited than other studious members of his family. For all he knew, Mina would sneak into his cabin while he slept and turn him into a tree.
He almost reached out for a parting handshake but instead gave a timid wave goodbye. “Yeah, of course.” Anytime, Alfie stopped himself from saying. “It was, uh… a pleasure to meet you, Mina. Maybe I’ll see you around, neighbor.” Even now, while he was desperate to escape his life outside of these woods, the word didn’t sound quite right. He wouldn’t last the night in this cabin.

i’m wasting my time (when it was always you)
read on ao3
The air in the room was thick with tension. The men weren’t as close to each other as they usually were. It was weird, to say the least, to sit with such a generous amount of space between them. The silence was uncomfortable as well; it was bordering on eerie at this point. This wasn’t the first time they sat in a noiseless room together, but something about the energy was off.
On the bright side, Christopher was finally in bed, thanks to Buck and two chapters of his latest Goosebumps book. Eddie had decided it’d be best if they talked about the disagreement they had earlier in the day tomorrow; after both of them had a good night’s rest. If they tried to hash it out tonight, he was sure that they’d just be talking in circles. Both parties needed a clear mind going into the conversation of Eddie jumping back into the dating pool.
Now, back to the issue at hand. Buck and Eddie were fighting.
Okay, fighting is an exaggeration, but things were certainly weird between them. Eddie had originally come by to pick up Chris, and he had figured Buck would fill him in on anything he deemed detrimental the following day. But, the look on his best friend’s face said it all. Whatever had happened between the time that Chris arrived at Buck’s house and Eddie coming by to get him, was something they needed to discuss sooner rather than later.
But seeing said look on Buck’s face made Eddie want to do nothing more than hold him close and assure him that everything would be alright. He had no idea what they had discussed, but the thought of either of the most important people in his life hurting was almost too much to bear.
Eddie wanted to place soft kisses all over Buck’s body; starting from his nose and ending at the tips of his toes. He wanted to love Buck unapologetically. He wanted to declare his love for the man; shouting it from the rooftop of the tallest building he could locate in Los Angeles. So yeah, there was no denying his feelings for Buck. But to risk losing one of the best friends he’s ever had? To risk ruining the amazing friendship between Buck and Chris? It wasn’t worth it. He had ultimately decided his feelings didn’t matter all that much in the grand scheme of things.
If only he had the balls to just come out and say it, perhaps he could’ve avoided this night sent from hell entirely.
So, that’s how they ended up here. In Eddie’s living room, acting as if they’d never spoken to each other a day in their lives.
“So you’re just not going to say anything,” Eddie finally announced after what seemed like a lifetime.
“I’m not sure what you expect me to say, Eddie.”
Buck’s tone was clipped.
“I want you to explain to me what conversation took place between you and Chris,” Eddie replied. “Because clearly, it was more serious than I had originally assumed.”
“I already told you on the drive over here,” Buck groaned. “I specifically said we had a heart to heart; nothing more, nothing less.”
Eddie crossed his arms and turned his body so he was facing the younger man. “Do you expect me to believe that, Buckley? Because the look on your face formed words before your mouth had the chance to.”
“You want the truth? Because I can give you the truth, Diaz,” Buck answered. “Chris told me that everyone leaves and when they do, he misses them, and it makes him sad,” Buck took a breath. “And now, you’re going to introduce him to yet another person, just for them to leave. He’s scared. And quite frankly? I don’t blame him, Eddie.”
Eddie took a second to absorb what Buck had just told him. He had no idea this is where the anger Chris expressed was stemming from. But how could he? This had been the first time the topic of dating had come up since Shannon’s passing. And now with the pandemic, feelings were bound to be amplified in all areas.
“Wait, ” Eddie said. “Did you just imply that you don’t think Ana is here for the long run?” His brows were furrowed and his tone was teetering on accusatory, but he couldn’t care less right now.
“Maybe I did,” Buck replied. And boy, did he look smug, with the outer parts of his mouth quirked slightly. He was testing Eddie; seeing how far he could push him until he reached his breaking point.
“That’s a bold statement to make about someone you barely know,” Eddie fired back.
Things were heating up, quickly.
“That’s rich coming from you,” Buck chuckled humorlessly. “You’re bringing someone into his life that you barely know!”
Eddie grimaced at Buck’s statement. He wasn’t wrong, per se, but he was in too deep. This was happening.
“That’s not,” his voice faltered, “that’s not the same and you know it.”
“Oh but it is,” Buck replied. “Humor me though. How well do you know Miss Flores?”
Eddie opened his mouth and then closed it. He knew she was Chris’s old teacher. He knew she was now a VP at a different school. He knew she was Latina. He knew she was beautiful, smart, and put together.
Okay, so maybe that was all that he knew.
“Ha! See. I know you, Eddie and you know me. But you have to admit, you don’t know anything that’s not surface-level about her.” He laughed again, “Your conversations are about as deep as a kitty pool.”
“I’m getting to know her, Buck,” Eddie replied, rolling his eyes. “Do you get into relationships and dive into their shit immediately?”
While Eddie waited for Buck’s response, he rose from the couch and walked into the kitchen. He grabbed two beers from the bottom shelf of the fridge and nodded his head at Buck, signaling him to move the conversation.
Buck walked up to the island, cracked open his Heineken, and took a generous swig. “No. But I also don’t have a mini-me to introduce my potential significant other to,” Buck said pointedly. “All I’m saying is that I think it’s a little early to be jumping headfirst into the deep end.”
“I didn’t ask you what your opinion was on my relationship.”
“I mean technically-” Buck challenged, but Eddie was fed up at this point.
“Why do you care so much anyway?” Eddie countered, cutting Buck off mid-sentence.
Buck was taken back. He wasn’t expecting that question, but he was quick on his feet, so he went rushing in with another answer.
“Because I care about Chris,” he said calmly. “I also care about you and I want you to be happy, I do. You deserve it more than anyone, but I just think you’re moving a little fast. There’s no guarantee she’s not going to walk out when it gets rocky.”
Buck sighed, “Or maybe she’ll decide that being with a first responder isn’t for her. Which I mean, fair; it’s not for everyone. Regardless, the point still stands. I don’t think she’s permanent in Chris’s life at the moment, so it’s weird, in my opinion, to treat her as such.”
Eddie knew Buck was right. He wanted to say it. The words were at the tip of his tongue. If he could just–
“I’m a permanent fixture in Chris’s life,” Buck blurted out, nervously brushing his palms against his jeans.
Eddie raised an eyebrow at the younger. Surely Buck didn't think he could be anything but a permanent fixture in Chris’s life. He meant so much to both of them; Eddie and Christopher. Buck was a crucial part of the Diaz family; no ifs, ands, or buts.
“I never said you weren’t. Is there something I’m missing here?” Eddie asked, letting out a nervous laugh.
“I-,” Buck began. “Nevermind. Now’s not the time.”
“Buck, c’mon,” Eddie pleaded. “There’s no better time than right now.”
“I can’t,” Buck muttered. “It wasn’t supposed to be like this. I can't tell you like this,” he finished in a hushed tone.
Eddie frowned. He placed his beer bottle onto a swirled marble of the island and swiftly walked over to his best friend who stood just three feet away. He placed a gentle hand on his shoulder and rested his thumb on Buck’s collarbone, rubbing it back and forth across the clavicle covered by milky skin.
“Buck. You know you can tell me anything,” Eddie said. He gave the man's shoulder a light squeeze and continued to rub his thumb across the length of the prominent bone, letting Buck know it was okay to speak whenever he was ready.
“Did you ever stop and think about why I jumped into the dating pool right after you did?” Buck asked, eyes trained on the floor.
“I-I figured–,” Eddie stumbled slightly, trying to find the right words. “I just assumed you were tired of being single.”
“That and the fact that the person I wanted was whisked away before I had the chance to tell him how I feel,” Buck replied, voice cracking. His throat felt like it was closing and he felt the familiar sting towards the back of his eyes, a sure sign that the waterworks were on their way. “God. This is pathetic.”
“Hey. Look at me,” Eddie said, coaxing Buck’s head upward with a feather-light touch to his chin.
Buck tried to avoid eye contact by going against the grain of Eddie’s touch. He couldn’t breakdown, not now. He'd almost made it to the end of their.. conversation? Whatever. At this moment, he wished for nothing more than for the ground to swallow him whole and return him to real life in 14 to 17 business days. He couldn't tell Eddie how he felt now. Not when Eddie was finally happy.
He couldn't make something about him. Again.
He couldn't be a bad friend to another person within two hours.
So why did Buck blow up his spot? Beats him.
“I like you, Eddie,” Buck confessed. “But, that doesn't matter now. I missed my chance; you're with Ana. I won't take away your happiness. I can't take away your happiness; not now, not ever.”
Buck sighed and reluctantly stepped out from under the older man’s touch. “I should leave. I’ll see you at work tomorrow, Eds.”
“Buck,” Eddie started gentle yet firm. “The only way you could take away my happiness is if you walked out, through that door.”
“Huh?” was all Buck managed to say.
“You bring me happiness, Buck. You are my happiness. Well, besides Chris, but that should go without saying.” Eddie rubbed his hands together and continued, “I like you too.”
Buck chewed on his bottom lip, trying to think of what to say in reply to Eddie’s declaration.
“How long have you felt this way? How come you didn't tell me, Eds?” he asked.
“Longer than I’d like to admit. But I couldn't risk messing up everything just for feelings that could've been one-sided.”
“And that’s why you went out with Ana?” Buck questioned.
“Partially. I needed to start my journey to real happiness. Then Ana conveniently reappeared, so I thought, why not y’know?”
Eddie continued before Buck could respond. “Ana isn't you, Buck. That's what I'm getting at. She's sweet, funny, and intelligent, but she's not you. She doesn't hold a candle to all that you are.”
Buck began to chuckle, which soon turned into a full-on fit of giggles. Once he was done with his laughter and caught his breath, he spoke once more. “We’re a pair of idiots, aren't we?”
“That we are," Eddie said. His eyes crinkled as a genuine grin graced his face. "Though I must say, there's no one I’d rather be an idiot with besides you.”
They wanted to kiss. Boy, did they want to kiss. However, the men also knew Eddie had to break things off with Ana first. It was just the right thing to do. But in the meantime, they could hold one another in the soft glow of Eddie’s kitchen and exchange words so sweet you'd think they had been dipped in honey. They would be together soon.
Oh so soon.

I see your “fake/pretend dating” scenarios and I ask instead of you: “we’re secretly together and desperately trying to hide it” scenarios
Richie and Eddie finally get their shit together a week before Bev and Ben’s wedding, and after a whole lot of arguing and contingency plans and naked, sweaty discussion, they decide that if they don’t wanna steal that hetero thunder, they have to try their hardest to act like they’re not a Thing
and it’s a mess. They spend the whole week of bachelor parties (Losers plus Patty sans Bev get sad drunk and wish Bev was there) and bachelorette parties (Losers plus Patty sans Ben wear feather boas and get sorority drunk with Bev’s fashion friends, gossip about Ben and sing karaoke) pretending they’re not sneaking off to bone in every unoccupied room they possibly can
It’s a MESS. Richie figures the years of practice at pathetic, secret longing mean they should be better at this than they are. Like yeah, they’re still hovering in this awkward limbo stage where it’s both terribly exciting and horribly embarrassing to be crossing meat swords with your long lost best bro, while knowing you’re both totally into it, but they already acted so couple-y beforehand that it’s probably WEIRDER if Eddie stops smiling all fond and fixing Richie’s hair, or if Richie stops slinging his arm around Eddie at every opportunity. But that’s letting their guard down, and they keep freezing and jumping apart in the middle of casual conversation. They’re standing with Bill and Audra and Patty and Mike in some hotel function room, discussing whether or not stealing Ben’s yacht is feasible when Richie oh-so-gently says “hey—c’mere,” and wipes a smudge of chocolate fondue (contains nuts!!) from Eddie’s mouth with his thumb. Everyone stops talking. Everyone stares. Eddie stares. And Richie needs to duck and cover so he sort of - slaps him? Not even hard enough to make a noise, it’s more of a tap-then-push. He pushes Eddie’s face. “Is that Staniel I hear,” Richie says, after a moment.
“I don’t hear anything,” Patty says.
“No no, that’s definitely Stan,” Richie says, backing swiftly to the door. Eddie’s eyes are on him accusing and hot, dark brown like the chocolate smeared on Richie’s thumb. Later, Eddie will suck the taste off where it’s stuffed in his mouth to keep quiet as they fuck below deck in Ben’s stolen yacht, Mike and Bill fighting overhead about who gets to wear the blue and white captain’s hat. Eddie’s pants are barely even pulled down. Richie does his Quint From Jaws Voice and goes duh-dun, duh-dun as Eddie pushes inside so Eddie will bite his thumb and fuck him harder. It’s all very undignified, and illicit, and stupid. Eddie loves it. “I have great ears, Pattycake, and Stanley makes this sort of, uh, echolocation type noise when he’s having issues with hotel staff. I should know, I went on vacation once with his family, to the Catskills? Stan spilled soup on a waiter and every bat in the fuckin’ place came right outta the forest and flew into the buffet. Don’t ask him about it though, one man’s vigilante origin story is another man’s traumatic childhood. Okay bye.” Richie definitely doesn’t run, but running away is more about aura than gait.
Audra frowns. “Did he just imply Batman didn’t have a traumatic childhood?”
“Haha,” Eddie deflects, stuffing his hand in his pocket, and missing. “He must’ve had the shrimp. Fucked up that he’s the one with the actual shellfish allergy, right? Isn’t that irony, or something?”
“That would be ironic, if you didn’t know everything we’re all allergic to by heart and would never let Richie eat shrimp,” Bill says, still staring.
“I would,” Eddie says immediately. He can’t find his fucking pocket. “I would totally let Richie eat shrimp.”
“You slapped his slice of pizza out of his hand last week because there was oyster sauce in the marinara,” Mike says, but Eddie is already actually running away. Wow, he’s fast.
Even with the Losers, Richie’s only out by implication, but it’d still be weird if he, for some reason, brought a woman as his date. He thinks about bringing Sven the Sound Guy because he’s as opposite to Eddie as it’s possible to find on short notice since Guy Fieri was unavailable, but he can’t decide whether this is genius cover or so on the nose as to be damning. He goes stag in the end, which is perhaps most damning of all. Eddie is in Schrodinger’s closet, because he doesn’t have to answer either way if nobody fucking asks him, and nobody does, because Eddie always starts doing whatever he’s currently doing to an incredibly intense level whenever the conversation turns to dating. One time at dinner when they were all in the same city for one of Richie’s tentative, low-key comeback shows, someone mentioned post-divorce dating apps, and then someone simply said the word Grindr not even in Eddie’s direction and Eddie cut his steak so hard he scratched the plate. This was an achievement in and of itself seeing as the clown took Eddie’s fork-arm, but Richie was spearing his steak for him while he cut it. He’s an enabler. An enabler to steak, and freakouts.
Anyway, even with all of this, it’s still weird that Eddie brings a woman. She’s Paula. From work. Stan sees her checking her phone so often that he figures out she’s one of the women in the matching white wedding dresses on her lock screen. Stan nudges Patty, who becomes very insistent that they should tell Eddie before he gets his heart broken, but Eddie is probably too busy periodically kicking out the backs of Richie’s knees to make him wobble and buckle against the bar to notice, or care.
Bev has great fucking aim, is the thing. There’s a lost catapult and a space-alien dead as a dodo can attest to it, but she’s still facing the opposite direction and could never predict that her bouquet toss would bounce off two different bridesmaids’ heads, straight into Richie’s hands. They’re so beautiful. White and orange and a rich, nautical blue that matches Eddie’s suit, tidily pinned up at the right shoulder and pressed hard into Richie’s side. Bev is laughing delightedly and Ben is taking a photo, and Eddie has been getting steadily drunker ever since he got back half an hour ago from gratefully sending Paula home to her wife in an Uber with some cake. He’s all pink across the bridge of his nose and he looks so fucking adorable with Ben’s blue and white yacht captain hat tilted on his head at a rakish angle, and the others are all catcalling so hard that Richie figures they might as well give up the pretense. He kicks out the back of Eddie’s knees so he’ll buckle into Richie’s flowery arms and fucking DIPS him like that old wartime photo even though Eddie’s the one with the sailor hat getting knocked off his head because they’re kissing so enthusiastically, clinging to the back of Richie’s neck and snortlaughing into his mouth, but suddenly everyone’s shouting, and they all sound - not pissed, exactly, but certainly indignant
“Are you guys serious,” Bill says, “you’re stealing their thunder right now? One major childhood romance realized isn’t enough, you’re gonna crash theirs?”
“Wait,” Richie says
Bev throws up her hands. Richie can’t see, because of her dress, but he’s pretty sure her foot is actually tapping. “Why didn’t you tell us!”
Eddie is still dangling off him like a monkey, all stunned-drunk limp with the bouquet shoved in his face. Richie hears what uh oh sounds like muffled by flowers, and Ben silently takes another photo, like he’s cataloguing a crime scene.
“You guys... didn’t know? We actually kept it a secret?”
“Until now, you jackasses!”
“What secret,” Audra asks, appearing with like eight plates of cake. “What’s happening? Oh wait, I’m caught up.”
“But—but—the fondue,” Eddie says, and seriously, it’s not like the clown ripped his legs off, he could try standing and facing this with Richie like a true bro, but Richie’s kind of enjoying the weight of him. Plus he’s pretty sure Bev won’t dare to go through Eddie to kill him, so. Human shield it is.
“What about the fondue?” Mike looks like he did after the end of The Usual Suspects. Like he’s re-evaluating every time Richie and Eddie left a room together, and wishes he wasn’t. “You guys are like that all the time.”
“Then why were you all staring!”
“Nobody was staring! It was a natural lull in conversation, we were weirded out that you were being weird about it! Have you always been this self-centered?”
“I guess so,” Richie shrugs. He looks down at Eddie, covered in pollen and thoroughly confused. He’s so drunk he’s looking kinda cross-eyed. “You hear that, dude? We were killing it, until we fucked it all up!”
Eddie grins up at him. “Good enough!” he slurs, and then lets go of Richie’s neck for a high five. Everyone’s gone back to ignoring them in favour of dancing to Journey, so at least nobody notices Richie’s so eager to return it that he drops Eddie on the floor instead

25 and 26 for reddie!! Only if you want to💗
Hollyyy!!💗 This is such an old prompt, I’m sorry! Have some ‘fuck- canon’ fluff (again).
“Come cuddle.”
“I’ll be there in a few minutes.”
Read on AO3
Eddie woke up in the middle of the night to an empty bed.
While half asleep, he’d thrown his arm over the right side of the mattress, expecting to find a warm, lanky body that he could cuddle up against but instead, he got an armful of nothing. Eddie frowned and with his eyes still closed, trying to hold on to sleep for as long as he could, he felt around the bed for Richie but he wasn’t there. The man was all long legs and arms and the Town House bed wasn’t exactly big⎯ if he was there, Eddie’s hand would’ve found him already.
His first thought was that It was back. It was back and he’d taken Richie, taking advantage of the fact that they let their guard down after thinking they had killed him, for real this time. The thought made Eddie’s breathing speed up but he forced himself to take three deep breaths and calm down before he could drive himself into a panic attack.
“Rich?” He muttered, blinking his eyes open. The room was dark but the moonlight filtered in through the window, which was weird because Eddie remembered closing the curtains before crawling under the covers. With Richie. Which begged the question⎯
Where did the asshole go?
The answer to that question came soon enough when Eddie rolled over and saw that, not only were the curtains drawn back, but the window was also open and Richie was sitting on the window sill, smoking?
“What the fuck are you doing Richie? It’s the middle of the night.” Eddie said, pushing himself up into a sitting position. Richie jumped, almost dropping his cigarette in surprise. “And are you seriously smoking? These places have smoke detectors you know that, right?”
“Not this shithole Eds. Come on. They don’t even have hot water.” Richie scoffed, blowing out smoke. “Did I wake you?”
“No.” Eddie said, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. “Well yeah. I woke up when I realized you weren’t in bed.”
“Aww Eds you missed me?” Richie teased but his voice was slightly off. “One night and you already can’t sleep without me?”
Eddie rolled his eyes, grabbing a pillow and throwing it at Richie, missing pathetically. “Shut up. Why are you awake?”
Richie tensed up then, looking out the window and taking a long drag of his cigarette before talking through his teeth, “Couldn’t sleep.”
“Bullshit.” Eddie said. “You were asleep. I know, because your snoring kept me up for like an hour.”
Richie scoffed, bringing the cigarette to his mouth. “Now that’s some fucking bullshit. Eds, I don’t snore.”
“Yes, you do. You have since we were kids.” Eddie said in his no bullshit tone. “But that’s not the point.“ He said, recognizing Richie’s attempt to change the subject. "Why are you smoking in the middle of the night?”
Richie didn’t meet Eddie’s eyes, staring out the window instead.
"Rich?” He asked, voice softer and more gentle. “Talk to me.”
Richie heaved out a sigh. He put out the cigarette and leaned back against the window, facing Eddie. “I had a nightmare.”
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
“Pennywise?” Richie made a noncommittal sound that Eddie took as a yes. “Pennywise is dead, Rich. We killed him. For real this time.”
“I know he is. The nightmare wasn’t about him, not really.“
Eddie pressed his lips into a tight line, hit by realization. He didn’t need to ask to know what Richie’s nightmare had really been about.
(After escaping Neibolt, the losers had all gone to the quarry to clean up, even if Eddie insisted it was useless because, “You can’t clean yourself in dirty water.” He joined them anyway and everyone had been celebrating, laughing and splashing around, when Eddie noticed Richie was sitting on a rock by himself with a troubled look. Eddie had swam over to him, throwing water at his face and said, “Didn’t you hear Rich? We killed the fucking clown.”
When Richie had looked up, his eyes were shining with unshed tears and Eddie’s laughter had died in his throat.
"I saw you die Eds.” Richie had said, ducking his head to stare at his hands. They were clean, but he looked at them  as if they were stained with something and Eddie reached over and held them. “When I was in the deadlights. I saw Pennywise kill you right in front of me.”
Eddie had shaken his head, giving his hands a squeeze. “That wasn’t real. I’m right here.”
“I thought I lost you.” He insisted, eyebrows pulled together. “I thought you died and that I never got the chance to⎯ to tell you, to⎯”
“To what?"
Richie had surged forward then, catching Eddie’s lips in a kiss. Over the sound of his own heart threatening to beat out of his chest, Eddie heard their friends whistling and catcalling. He let go of Richie’s hands to flip them off, before weaving his fingers in Richie’s hair and pulling him closer so he could kiss him back.
Later, they had ditched the losers to go to Richie’s room together⎯ amidst more whistling and catcalling. And after Richie took a shower and Eddie took three, they had stumbled into bed together for the first time. Both of them forgetting what Richie saw in the deadlights, until now.)
"It’s not real.” Eddie said, echoing his own words from the day before. “That was just Pennywise fucking with you, Richie.”
“I know that Eds, but everytime I close my eyes, I see it. I see Pennywise stabbing you, I see you bleeding all over me. I see you dying and I see myself leaving you in that fucking place.” He said, running a hand down his face.
Eddie’s face twisted with concern, feeling sad for Richie. He wanted to offer comfort, to reassure him, but words didn’t seem to be doing it. He untangled himself from the mess of blankets and dragged himself out of bed. The cold air hit Eddie’s bare legs and he shivered⎯ boxers and Richie’s shirt had been enough to keep him warm when the window was closed and he had Richie wrapped around him like a koala, but now they made him wish he didn’t the bed.
He quickly covered the distance between the bed and the window, wrapping his arms around Richie’s waist. Unlike Eddie, Richie was warm, even if he was wearing only a pair of boxers and had been standing next to the open window for a while. Eddie burrowed his face in his chest, still not quite believing he was allowed to do that now.
“Are you trying to distract me?” Richie clicked his tongue, sounding more like himself. Eddie counted that as a win. “Because it’s working.” He felt Richie’s arms wrap around him.
Eddie let out a snort. “I’m trying to convince you that I’m here and that I’m alive and that I'm⎯”
“Ready for round two?"
Eddie pinched his side, eliciting an embarrassing squeal from Richie. "I’m serious Rich.” He looked up, locking eyes with him. “I’m here and if you need me to keep reminding you that, I fucking will because I’m not going anywhere, you’re stuck with me now."
"That was aggressively romantic.” Richie said, smiling down at him, it was slightly shaky but happy.
Eddie returned the smile before leaning up and pressing a kiss against Richie’s lips, feeling his stomach flutter the moment their lips touched. Richie made a pleased sound before licking into Eddie’s mouth, warmth spreading through him when Richie’s tongue started moving against his.
They had been kissing for a while when a yawn escaped Eddie and he froze, Richie’s face breaking into a teasing grin.
"Don’t say anything, shut up.” Eddie said, feeling his face go hot. “This is your fault.”
Richie scoffed. “Am I really that boring, Eds?"
Eddie rolled his eyes. "Of course not. I’m just tired since you woke me up.”
“Right sorry.” Richie said, running his thumb softly over Eddie’s cheek. “You should go back to sleep. I’ll be there in a few minutes."
"What? You’re gonna go rub one off in the bathroom?” Eddie joked, making Richie laugh.
“You caught me, Eds.” He flashed him a lewd grin. “That kiss got me all hot and bothered."
Eddie snorted, grabbing Richie’s hand. "Come on.” He started dragging him towards the bed, but Richie planted himself on the floor. Eddie cocked his head at him, giving him a questioning look.
“I don’t think I can go back to sleep just yet.” Richie said, avoiding Eddie’s eyes.
Everytime I close my eyes, I see it.
Oh, right.
“Are you worried about having another nightmare?” Eddie asked, taking Richie’s grimace as an answer. “I won’t let that happen.”
“What? You’re gonna fight the nightmares away with your tiny fists?”
“No.” Eddie said, rolling his eyes. “I’m gonna hold you so hard that you won’t be able to forget I’m alive.” He said, watching Richie’s expression melt at his words. “Now close the window and come cuddle with me. It’s the middle of the fucking night and I’m tired.”
“Okay.” Richie said, pressing a kiss to Eddie’s forehead and letting go of him just to shut the window. “As long as I get to be the little spoon.”
“Duh."
They climbed into bed together, Eddie’s chest pressed flush against Richie’s back. Eddie wrapped his arms around him and Richie sighed happily when he pressed a kiss to the top of his spine.
Eddie forced himself to stay awake until he was certain that Richie was asleep⎯ his loud snoring making it perfectly clear. Only then, did he allow himself to close his eyes, dozing off immediately.
Neither of them woke up again, not until the sunlight filled the room the next morning.

“Stop looking like I’m asking you to shove your finger into an electric pencil sharpener.”
Stan startled, looking up from his phone to glance at his wife with a deep, lingering frown. When he noticed her expecting glare, he forced the frown away and gave her a soft smile. “I’m sorry. It’s just a weird thought, doing this. I don’t know how to feel about it.”
Patty came forward and knelt in front of Stan’s spot on the couch. She tilted her head down to catch his gaze. “We’ve talked about this a lot, but Stan, if you’ve changed your mind, I understand. If you don’t want to do this anymore-”
“No.” Stan interrupted her, reaching out to take his wife’s hands in his. “I want to do this, I do. It’s just… the idea of asking Richie this favour sort of makes my skin crawl a little bit. You know what he’s like.”
Patty shook her head, confusion settling deep in her features. “Richie’s your best friend, you two are like brothers. Did you want to ask somebody else?”
Stan huffed out a harsh breath, running the hand that was holding Patty’s through his brown curls and messing up his usual perfect style. “There’s nobody I’d rather ask to do this than Richie. There’s nobody else I ever would ask. It’s just… You know Richie. I’m worried he’s going to be a shit about it.”
Patty smiled, then broke into giggles. “Awe, Stanny. Don’t dwell on it. If anything, Eddie is going to be a bigger concern.”
Stan groaned, but allowed Patty to stand and pull him to his feet. Stanley Uris had been best friends with Richie Tozier since they wore diapers, their parents bathing them together. Growing up, Stan had always joked that Richie’s friendship had been forced upon him, but everybody had always known the truth; that even if Stan had had the option to choose a different best friend he never would have.
The two of them had known Eddie Kaspbrak nearly as long- and Richie had been almost pathetically in love with him the entire time. Stan wouldn’t believe that six year olds could truly fall in love, if he hadn’t grown up with Richie Tozier and Eddie Kaspbrak. There had never truly been a turning point in their relationship- no moment where they went from being Richie and Eddie to being RichieAndEddie. It had always been a gradual thing, the relationship growing up as they did. Something rare, Stan knew, but something beautiful. No matter how annoying it had been growing up.
Richie had been the one who had introduced Stan and Patty in the first place, back in their freshman year of college. They’d had a psychology class together, one Patty took for her major and Richie took for an “easy pass”. Richie had talked Patty up to him for months, until Stan had finally relented and allowed Richie to arrange a double date between them. For all the grumbling and complaining Stan had made before hand, he would never be able to thank Richie enough for pushing him to this date. Stan had never believed in love at first sight growing up, probably wouldn’t have believed in love at all if it hadn’t been Richie and Eddie, but that all changed when he met Patricia Blum. Ten years later, and Stanley supposed he owned his life and his happiness as he knew it to Richie Tozier.
And now he was about to ask him for another favour he’d never be able to repay him.
“Hey,” Eddie Kaspbrak opened the door to them. His hair stuck up at awkwardly angles and there was a questionable stain on his shirt. His socks didn’t match, and there were deep dark circles under his eyes. For a moment Stan wondered the sight of his best put together friend looking like a utter mess should have been enough to deter him from what he was about to ask, but the deeply satisfied smile and sparkle in his eye just made Stan’s passion burn deeper.
“Sorry the place is an absolute mess,” Eddie continued as he ushered the husband and wife into his house. Eddie and Richie’s house was much bigger than that of Stan and Patty’s- or any of the other Losers for that matter. Richie’s radio job paid him very generously, and his occasionally guest spots on Saturday Night Live were likely enough to cover six months of their bills. Richie once referred to Eddie’s generous mechanic’s salary as their “play money” and Bill Denbrough didn’t speak to him for two weeks.
“Patty!” The little voice of little Alyssa broke through the living room. Her brown hair was put into two messy ponytails on either side of her head, and there were green paint streaks on her cheeks. The three year old launched herself at Patty and wrapped her arms around her knees. Stan’s heart hammered in his chest.
“Hey there, princess!” Patty said, scooping her up in her arms and pressing a big kiss right over the dried paint on Alyssa’s cheeks. “Did you and Richie get into a paint war?”
Eddie rolled his eyes, but he was smiling. A little over a year ago, Eddie and Richie had adopted a pair of sisters- Alyssa, two at the time, and Katherine, just a couple months old- from an unsafe house. They had been private about the whole ordeal, but had explained to Stan and Patty that the house had been involved in a drug situation, but Stan remembered the marks on Alyssa when she’d come to live with them and he was certain nothing had ever made him more angry.
You wouldn’t know what the girl had been through now, though, looking at her. Stan marvelled at how wonderful parents Richie and Eddie were, and he wondered if he was surprised or not. He remembered Eddie being worried, when he and Richie had first first started discussing starting a family, that he would end up like his mother. Richie’s parents had been ever loving, though a little distant and absent as Richie had grown older. The Losers had all been very supportive and encouraging, and they had been right. Eddie and Richie Kaspbrak were probably the best parents Stan had ever known, more so than even the best of their own parents growing up in Derry.
It was part of what made this decision a little bit easier.
Richie came into the living room now, baby Katie in his arms. She seemed to grow ten times between each visit and Stan held out for her expectantly, cooing at her as Richie placed the girl in his arms.
“Katie’s learned to do the butt scoot.” Richie said, sounding explicitly exhausted even as pride showed through his face. “I’m telling you, Stan the Man, it’s insane how fast they can go without even being able to use their legs. I might make it my main means of transportation from now on.”
“You’d break your back moving around like that, old man.” Eddie laughed. Richie made a wounded noise, and left a wet kiss on his husband’s face. The couple turned to Stan and Patty, with matching looks of expectation.
“You guys had something you need to ask us?” Richie said as they all took their seats around the living room. Stan watched as Eddie pulled some sort of hard, pink toy out from under him and tossed it onto the floor.
“Uh, yes,” Stan said with a clear of his throat. “You guys know that Patty and I have been talking about having kids.”
It was an understatement, of course. Stan and Patty had always known that they wanted to have kids, it was one of their biggest desires in their lives. That had never been a secret, but what they’d always kept much more privately to themselves is when they started to get pregnant. For the last two years, they’d been trying. When it didn’t happen after a serious effort, they’d started with the testing and the treatments- only to find some heartbreaking results.
“We’ve uh…” Stan coughed slightly. He’d known this wasn’t going to be an easy conversation to have, but he hadn’t anticipated how hard it truly was going to be to get the words out. “We’ve been having trouble getting pregnant so we got some tests done at the doctors and it turns out I can’t have kids.”
Stanley said this all as one big run on sentence, and both Eddie and Richie just blinked at him for a moment before the words caught up to them.
“Oh.” Eddie said, his eyes going wide and sad. “Oh my God, I’m so sorry, Stan. That’s terrible.”
Stan waved the apology off, knowing that if he let himself dwell on it that he’d get too emotional to carry on with what they’d truly come to say.
“That’s not all.” Patty said, bouncing Alyssa on her knee. “We’ve been looking into options, and the one that speaks out to us the most is probably insemination. I want to carry our baby if it’s possible at all, but the idea of using an unknown sperm donor makes us feel a little uneasy.”
Stan watched a realization settled on Eddie’s face while Richie continued to patiently listen to what their friends were saying. “So, we talked about it,” Stan jumped on to continue Patty’s explanation. “And we thought that it was maybe possible to ask somebody we knew to donate to us, if they were willing. And there was only one person we felt even close enough to be comfortable with.”
It took him a moment. It wasn’t until he realized everybody in the room, including his own husband, were looking at him that the words seemed to settle onto Richie and his mouth dropped open in surprise. “Who- what? Me?”
Patty let out a small laugh. “You were the best man at our wedding, Richie. You’re the only reason we ever even met at all.”
“I doubt that.” Richie chuckled. “You guys are obviously soulmates, you would have met one way or another. I just sped up the process.”
Stan’s heart panged in his chest with an overwhelming affection for his best friend. “We understand that this is a very out of left field question to ask you, and that it’s a lot. Please don’t feel obligated to accept simply because we asked. We can always adopt, or find another option.”
“No…” Richie said slowly, shaking his head. He shifted on the couch and looked at Eddie. “Babe?”
Eddie blinked in surprise and let out a small chuckle. “Why are you asking me? It’s your sperm.”
Richie laughed. “Eds, man, this is a big decision. I’m going to just say fuck yes without seeing how you feel about it. That’s crap, we make every important decision.”
Eddie frowned but Patty spoke up quickly. “He’s right.” She said, “we might not be asking Richie to help raise our child, but it will be biologically his. Genetics may have this thing come out looking exactly like him.”
“God forbid,” Stan said with a teasing smile. Richie and Eddie flipped him off in unison.
“Eddie-” Patty hugged Alyssa closer to herself. “We aren’t just asking for Richie’s consent. If he says yes, there will be somebody out there literally carrying your husband’s DNA inside her. If you’re not one hundred percent comfortable with that, then we won’t do it. This involves you, too.”
“We’re a team.” Richie took Eddie’s hands in his. “I won’t do anything that you aren’t okay with.”
A troubled look came over Eddie’s face, and he looked around the living room. He smiled softly as his eyes fell on Stan and Patty holding their kids. “Surprisingly, I think this world might need a little more Tozier DNA. And if anybody deserves babies it’s you guys. If Richie is okay with doing it, I’m behind you guys completely.”
Stan’s heart soared up into his throat as all eyes turned to Richie. There was a small smirk on his face. “The biological child of Richie Kaspbrak and Patricia Uris, raised by the perfection of Stanley Uris? There’s no way that the world doesn’t deserve to see that. Count me in.”
Patty let out an over excited squeal and jumped up- Alyssa still in her arms- and launched herself onto Richie. Alyssa was letting out little giggles as Stan stood slowly, holding the baby, and tugged a crying Eddie into a tight embrace.
He loved his family, and he couldn’t wait to see it grow.

The Friend Trap: Starring K.T and Eddie.
Hey everyone! Here’s part two to my fanfic: https://bywhatilove.tumblr.com/post/612801624347410432/the-friend-trap-starring-kt-and-eddie
I would recommend reading that part first so you aren’t confused!
It had been a week since Eddie had talked to K.T on the phone- a week since he had (involuntarily, mind you) been roped into her master plan to get Fabian and Nina to reconnect.
Yes! That was it!
That was his excuse when this all went awry and Fabian and Nina were pissed off at him. When Fabian yelled at him for betraying their “bromance” or whatever and Nina threatened to use her creepy chosen one connections with the Egyptian gods on him, that would be his excuse. This had all been K.T’s idea and she had roped him into it. He was dragged into it by his teeth and nails and forced to help her put this all together. It wasn’t a lie- not really anyway. It had all been K.T’s idea. But, if he was being honest with himself, he wasn’t totally against it. She was right, after all. Fabian and Nina were such close friends and had been through hell and back together. They deserved a better ending than a letter that Eddie had almost lost. It had been a week, and he still hadn’t even asked Fabian to go to New York with him.
Come on, Sweet, he thought to himself. You’re the Osrian, the protector of the chosen one. You’ve protected the world from ancient Egyptian gods. You can ask your best friend to go on a trip with you.
He walked into his and Fabian’s living room in their shared apartment. It had been a week since their university had breaked for summer and typical Fabian still had his head buried deep into a book. Sometimes, Eddie had wondered how in the world he had become best friends with such a dork. When he wondered that though, he always remembered it was world threatening Egyptian curses that had bonded them for life. And he also remembered that he was glad Fabian had been their with him through it all. As far as right hand mans went, he was a pretty darn good one. Eddie sat down on a chair across from Eddie. He lazily propped his head up on his hand before flashing Fabian his signature smirk.
Fabian smacked his book closed. “What do you want, Eddie?”
Eddie gasped, pretending to be fake wounded. As he placed his hand on his chest he asked, “Why do I always have to want something?”
“Because you’re Eddie,” Fabian said like it was the most obvious in the world.
“Well, just the one time,” Eddie lifted his pointer finger in the air, “you’re correct, Rutter. I was wondering, why don’t you come with me to see K.T in the states next week?”
Fabian stared at the boy and blinked a couple times. “You want me...to come to the states to see K.T....next week?”
He shook his head and lifted up his book to begin reading again. “I don’t think so bud.”
Well, this was already off to a very rocky start. Eddie knew Fabian may have some reservations about going to the U.S in a couple days. They were a couple of broke college students after all. But to dismiss the idea right away? Eddie certainly hadn’t planned on that, but who was Eddie Miller to back away from a fight.
“Ughh...” Eddie groaned. “Come on, Rutter! Don’t you want to see K.T again? Plus, you haven’t been to the states before, right? I think that it’s time I properly Americanize you.”
Eddie knew from the moment the sentence slipped off of his tongue that he had messed up. Of course Fabian hadn’t been to America. If you asked him, that was one of the reasons Nina broke up with him. He was wrong though, of course. So wrong.
“Look, man, I’m sorry. I wasn’t even thinking about...”
Fabian had a far off look in his eyes, like he was trying to conjur up some old memory. “She said that once. That she had Americanized us all already. That was when she was the only American at Anubis.”
He cast his eyes towards his shoes as a sad smile crept over his face. Times like this was when Eddie was perfectly okay with going along with K.T’s master plan. Because if that had been Patricia that had practically disappeared with only a letter left behind, he would want someone to do whatever they could to help him find her again.
“I know it’s pathetic that I still talk or even think about her.” Fabian’s voice was cold and self-deprecating. Even after two years of last seeing her, he still held her up on such a high pedalstool. But it wasn’t like Fabian was just waiting around for Nina to come running through the door and say she was sorry, he had moved on to other girls. First there was Mara, but that relationship had only lasted about a couple months when both of them realized that being lonely and knowing the digits of pie were no grounds for a relationship. There had even been a couple girls at university.
Eddie shook his head. “You’re not pathetic, Fabian. Above anything else, Nina was you’re best friend. You’re allowed to miss her.”
Eddie needed to convince Fabian to come to New York with him. What had just happened was even more proof that he needed to try and do something. Even if this blew up in his and K.T’s face, at least they had tried to help.
“Can you please come to New York with me?” Eddie wasn’t above pleading at this point, if it got the job done. “I know for a fact that K.T wants to see you again. And I can finally introduce you to the world of New York bagels and pizza- aka every man and woman’s biggest dream. Please?”
Eddie knew he was pushing this a little too hard. He knew he sounded a little pathetic, begging like this. But it had to be done. He had to get Fabian on that plane, even if it meant dragging him against his will. Eddie was stronger than Fabian. He could take him.
Fabian played with the pages in his book. He would glance up at Eddie and then glance down at his books. Again and again. Until finally, he shrugged. “Yeah, okay. I’ll go to the states with you.”
Eddie sprung up from his chair and playfully punched Fabian on his shoulder.
“You’re going to love it, Rutter!” Eddie called as he walked down his hall to his room. But as soon as he was in his room and closed the door, he leaned against the wall and let out a deep breath. There was a very good chance this entire plan could end with Fabian and Nina pissed off at Eddie.
He pulled out his phone and texted K.T: Fabian is coming. Your turn.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
K.T looked at that text Eddie had sent her last week.
Fabian is coming. Your turn.
What the hell did that mean? Okay, sure this was all her idea. But they were in this together, Eddie wasn’t turning his back on her now. If this went awry, then it was both their faults. As Nina walked up with both their coffees, K.T quickly hid her phone.
“One iced latte with cream and sugar and carmel drizzle.” Nina placed K.T’s coffee down in front of her. “I don’t know how you drink it with so much sugar. Seriously, K.T, that’s all sugar with very little coffee.”
K.T rolled her eyes. This was a conversation they have had for a year now, since they first met, really. It had been such a surprise and a weird twist of fate for the Nina Martin to be her roommate at NYU. But, at this point, K.T had learned to stop questioning the universe and go along with it. If the universe wanted Nina to be her roommate, then she was not going to argue.
“Whatever, Miss. pure black coffee,” K.T teased back.
“Don’t be jealous you don’t have this amount of power,” Nina rolled her eyes playfully.
Both the girls broke out in a fit of laughter before K.T spoke. “So, I actually have some friends visiting tomorrow.”
Nina took a sip of her coffee before answering. She rose her eyebrows up in questioning. “Oh really, do I know them?”
What K.T wanted to say was this: Oh yeah, that’s a funny story actually! So you know how you’ve told me that you attended some boarding school in England for two years but couldn’t go back because of your sick gran? Well....that year that you didn’t go back, I actually went. I know all about sibuna and that you’re the chosen one and all that. And the two friends coming to visit? Yeah, one of them is your osirian and I’m pretty sure the other is like the love of your life or something.
What K.T actually said: “No, you haven’t meet them yet. They are some friends from high school.”
K.T hated lying to Nina about just how intertwined their pasts were. She absolutely hated it. She wanted nothing more than to tell Nina about the real reasons why she couldn’t sleep some nights. And that no matter how Nina tried to lie and say that her own nightmares were from scary movies, K.T knew what they were really about. She wanted to talk about how going to Anubis house was completely terrifying but also the best decision she ever made because it gave her a found family. A found family that Nina was technically apart of.
“That’s cool! What are their name’s?” Nina asked, always one to be curious.
Uh oh. K.T hadn’t thought this much into the lie. Her mind races trying to come up with the first two names that popped up into her head. Two very stupid names that K.T mental slapped herself for immediately.
“Edison and Fabo,” K.T answered earnestly.
Nina tried to hide her amusement but ultimately failed. She hid her laughter behind her hand, trying desperately not to be rude to K.T about her friends.
It took everything K.T had not to join her in laughing about her imaginary friend’s fake names. “Yeah, they hate their names too...” she was able to mutter under her breath.
“No, no, it’s not even that their names are that.” Nina shook her head. “It’s just...well remember my friends Eddie and Fabian from boarding school? I’ve told you about them? It’s just funny that their names are so similar.”
K.T held her tongue and nodded in agreement. Of all the names? And she picked those? How stupid can you be, K.T?
If only you knew, Nina, she thought to herself.
“Well, thanks for the brief coffee date, but I’ve got to go. Hair appointment,” Nina waved her hand around her head. “See you at the apartment tonight?”
“Yeah, of course!” K.T replied with all the enthusiasm she could muster, but her mind was far away. She watched as Nina gatherd her things and left. It wasn’t until Nina was completely out of eye sight that K.T allowed herself to unravel. She took a deep breath and leaned back in the chair. Placing her forehead in the palms of her hands, she shook her head. This was a bad idea. A bad, bad idea. Nina was going to be so mad at K.T for keeping all this from her. Their entire friendship was a lie practically, and that was all about to come crashing down tomorrow.
K.T pulled her phone out and texted Eddie: I’m starting to regret this entire thing.
It was only a minute later that she received a text back: Too late for that now Rush. It’s show time tomorrow! ;)
K.T shook her head. She was screwed. So screwed.

I’m With You (1/?)
Summary:
Having a crush was nothing to be ashamed of...lying to the family and friends of said crush about being the guy’s boyfriend, that was a whole other problem. When Buck saves the life of Andrew Diaz and accidentally makes a nurse think that he’s Andrew’s boyfriend, Buck soon finds himself lying to Andrew’s firefighter friends/coworkers as well as Andrew’s family including Andrew’s very suspicious and attractive brother, Eddie.
Based on the 1995 movie While You Were Sleeping.
Words: 4,050
Notes: Hello. I am back with another fic. This is based on one of my favorite rom coms: While You Were Sleeping (1995). I was watching it a few weeks back and I just wanted a Buddie version of it. Anyone that hasn't seen it: go watch it immediately, it's a classic. Rom coms are not made like they used to be.
The fic title comes from the song of the same name by Vance Joy. Listen to it, it is perfect. Enjoy. :)

Coffee Time was always busy at three very specific times of the day. In the morning from opening at 6am until around 9am and then 12pm to around 1pm and then after 5pm until just after 7pm. The rest of the day was full of the odd person stopping in for a quick snack or drink and they often got a few people that loitered and sat at tables by the windows with their notebooks or laptops. Buck worked the morning shift going in at 5am to get everything ready for opening and leaving just after their lunch rush and it meant that Buck was there when Mr. Perfect arrived for his usual order : two black regular, one mocha latte, one iced green tea no sugar, and a regular latte.
Mr. Perfect arrived for the lunch rush which meant that there was never any real time for idle chat. He also always placed his order online for pick up and there was never a name attached. Just the order number. Buck was always the one to fill it and as tempting as it was to add his number to one of the cups, he also had no idea if Mr. Perfect was interested in men and which of the cups in the order was his. So, he never did. Instead, he admired from afar. It felt like the easiest thing to do.
It was busier than usual on a Thursday probably due to some event happening down the street. It meant that they had people coming in and out in what seemed like a stream and Buck was getting behind on filling orders. So much so that he failed to get Mr. Perfect’s order ready before he arrived like usual.
Mr. Perfect busied himself with his phone while he waited and didn’t seem too bothered at the wait or how crowded the place was and it gave Buck a few moments to admire him. He was broad and muscular and his shirt seemed to be just a little tight on him but Buck didn’t mind the way that it helped to make his biceps look big. The logo on the corner of his chest suggested that Mr. Perfect was a firefighter but Buck wasn’t entirely sure if that was his profession. But what really captivated Buck was the way he always smiled when he was picking up his order like he genuinely meant it. His eyes crinkled and they were so warm and dark and Buck loved them. It always left him feeling a bit distracted after Mr. Perfect walked away. He had that kind of affect on Buck and Buck knew that he would never really talk to him.
“One day, I want you to form sentences and speak to him,” his coworker, Ali, said, nudging him and passing on a marked cup for the current customer in line.
“Or never,” Buck said with a sigh.
The thing was that Buck wasn’t a shy person. And he definitely wasn’t shy about flirting or about getting someone to hook up with him. At least, that was who he used to be. But ever since his girlfriend, Abby, went off on a trip to Ireland and then ghosted him, Buck just didn’t know what he wanted. He didn’t think he wanted to go back to quick hook ups and one-night stands that left him feeling used and empty and yet he also wasn’t sure if he wanted to find someone to actually date. And Mr. Perfect — if Buck even had a chance with him — he was the kind that you wanted to date and fall in love with and marry and have a family with.
When Buck had finally got around to getting Mr. Perfect’s order ready, he set it down on the pick up counter and called out his order number. Mr. Perfect looked up from his phone at once and walked over, his lips turning up into a full toothed smile. His eyes found Buck and for a second Buck wondered if he should try and talk to him but then the moment passed.
“Thank you,” Mr. Perfect said and then dropped a few dollars into the tip jar.
“Have a good day,” Buck managed before letting out a sigh.
The next day, Mr. Perfect didn’t appear at his usual time and Buck pretended to be annoyed when Ali made fun of him for it but deep down he was a little sad about it. That he looked forward to seeing the same stranger at work more than any other part of his day should have been concerning, but Buck really didn’t have much else going for him.
When the lunch rush died down Buck took off his apron and walked into the back to clock out. From the closet he grabbed his things and he walked back out. He was waving goodbye at Ali, when he saw Mr. Perfect walk in and Buck actually stopped to watch him as Ali got his order to him. Ali shrugged at Buck when she caught his eye but Buck was mostly just glad to see him.
Buck made it out the door before Mr. Perfect turned away from the counter with his order, but he lingered outside looking in through the window like a creep before he shook his head at himself and started heading towards his car. He was so utterly pathetic. Buck hadn’t made it far when he heard someone yell out. When he turned, he realized that it was Mr. Perfect.
At first Buck didn’t spot him and he couldn’t have if it wasn’t for the cup of spilled coffee that had rolled away from him. All of the drinks were spilled on him and around him and he was several feet off of the sidewalk on his back and not moving. Buck ran to his side.
“Hey! Hey!” Buck yelled as he reached him but there was no response.
Buck checked his pulse at once and let out a breath when there was one. He put his hand out by his nose to check if he was breathing and felt a few puffs of air. That was good. He was breathing and he had a pulse.
“Okay. Okay. So what next. Can you hear me?”
Buck tried shaking him a little but Mr. Perfect didn’t react. There didn’t seem to be anyone else around either so Buck fished his phone out of his pocket and he dialed 9-1-1. He was just in the middle of trying to explain what happened to the operator when Buck realized that they were on the street and that while the street had been empty for a while, a car was coming their way and not stopping. The driver couldn’t see them.
“Holy shit,” Buck said and he scrambled to his feet, grabbing Mr. Perfect by the armpits and pulling.
He was heavy and it was a bit difficult to maneuver a fully grown man but Buck was strong and somehow he managed to get him to the bike lane mere seconds before the car drove right over where Mr. Perfect had been lying. Buck let out a breath.
“Oh my god,” he said. “That...that just happened.”
Buck knew he should have felt scared but instead he felt energetic and like he could do anything at all.
“Hello! Hello, what’s happening?”
His phone was on Mr. Perfect’s chest and luckily it hadn’t fallen off while Buck was pulling him to safety. He grabbed it, then.
“Sorry. Sorry. It’s just he was on the street. I pulled him out of the way. Car was coming. He’s still not awake. I don’t—”
“Sir, an ambulance is on the way. You said he’s breathing and has a pulse?”
“Yes. Yes. Looks like maybe he hit his head.”
Having moved him meant that Mr. Perfect’s head had lolled a bit and Buck could see that there was a growing lump. Buck also noticed that Mr. Perfect’s wallet was sticking out of his pocket and he figured he should grab it and get his name. The operator had asked for it at first but Buck didn’t know it. He literally knew nothing about him.
His license was right there at the top and Buck pulled it out. His name was Andrew Diaz.
The next few minutes were a bit of a blur but he remembered being able to tell the operator Mr. Perfect’s name and age (he was 29). He followed the operator’s instructions and then waited. A few people had stopped by to ask what was going on and if they could help but there was nothing to do but wait. Buck just had to keep making sure that he was breathing.
With Mr. Perfect — Andrew — out cold, Buck could really get to look at him without the danger of awkwardness if he was caught doing it. Andrew had long eyelashes that fanned out over the top of his cheeks. His hair looked curlier up close, a bit of a wave going through it. His lips were a nice rosy pink and just a bit chapped and Buck wished more than anything to be able to kiss him. There was a slight cleft to his chin and Buck could make out laugh lines next to his eyes and by his mouth. Up close, Buck could also make out a few freckles across his nose, not easy to notice on his skin tone.
Buck almost didn’t hear the ambulance arrive due to how distracted he was especially when he noted that Andrew had a small scar on his jaw. It made Buck curious.
Buck only got up when one of the paramedics touched his shoulder so he could get out of their way. He stood back and watched with a bit of fascination as they got a collar on him and then put him on a stretcher. They seemed to do a whole number of tests before they loaded him up but even then the whole thing was rather quick.
“Is he — is he going to be okay?” Buck asked.
“Just fine,” one of them said and then, “are you coming along?”
Buck was supposed to be just a bystander, a stranger with a crush that just happened to be the only person to see Mr. Perfect splayed out on the asphalt. He was the guy that helped out because he happened to be there but the way that the paramedic was looking at him like he was supposed to be more than that.
“Uh...what hospital? I — my car is here. I can just drive there.”
Buck had no idea why he said it or why he didn’t clear up that he was no one to Andrew but the guy that made him his coffee every day. After he had the information, Buck felt weird not going to the hospital to at least find out if Andrew would be okay. Maybe he felt a little weird about going too. It was for his own peace of mind and either way, Andrew didn’t have anyone else at the moment and Buck figured he should go and be there and maybe even wait it out until his family got there. Even as he tried to rationalize it, the whole thing felt stupid.
When he arrived at the hospital almost an hour later because of traffic, he got just a little turned around but then finally found an information desk.
“Andrew Diaz. He just came in and I was — I was with him and—”
Buck spotted him then. He was on a gurney now and they were rolling him away.
“That’s...that’s him. I—”
“Honey, honey, calm down. Are you a family member or friend? I can only release information to family. Someone has probably already been tasked with informing his emergency contacts and—”
Buck tried to take a breath. He didn’t quite know why he was freaking out so much. Maybe everything was finally hitting him. “I — I saved him earlier and I just want to make sure that he’s okay because I’ve been seeing him pretty much every day for months now and he’s like this perfect guy, you know, and I was going to...I was going to marry him, I think, maybe. If I ever built up the courage to—”
“So you’re not immediate family, then,” the woman said and her tone which had been friendly and almost comforting a moment ago had gone flat.
“I — no...no, I’m not.”
“Nothing I can do, then,” she said and turned away in one fluid motion leaving Buck with an open mouth.
Buck didn’t know what to do. Did he just leave and never find out what happened to Andrew? Did he wait it out to see if his family members came in? But then that would mean explaining himself and the whole weird crush from afar thing wouldn’t go off too well. Not to mention he really didn’t know Andrew at all. He’d learned his name a little over an hour earlier. Buck was just about to turn around and leave when he felt someone touch his shoulder. He turned and found a nurse. Not the one from earlier. This one was younger and she smiled sweetly at him.
“Hi,” she said. “I’m Olivia and I sort of overheard you earlier. I’m sorry about her. She’s not the worst but she’s not very open minded. But if you want to see your boyfriend, I can make that happen. Or — well, will it be fiance soon?”
Buck was speechless. Words completely failed him leaving his mind blank because that wasn’t what he was expecting. Olivia smiled at him and then motioned for him to follow her and Buck didn’t hesitate. She took him down the hall and past some doors into a room where Andrew was lying prone on a hospital bed.
She pat his arm. “You can sit with him, if you want? No one will bother you. I should get back.”
Buck didn’t even think about correcting her as she stepped towards the door because he could see Andrew through the glass and even in the hospital bed in a gown and with an IV line in his hand he still looked as handsome as ever.
“And I bet today was a hard day. You’re the one that pulled him off the street too, right?” Oliva asked. “The paramedics were talking about it when they brought him in.”
“I — yeah, I did.”
“He was lucky you were with him,” Olivia said and she sighed. “Anyway, I’ll leave you to it.”
Buck felt maybe a little bit odd, but he still walked over to the chair next to Andrew’s bed and he sat down. He would just linger for a moment and then leave and even if the nurse said anything about him to anyone it probably wouldn’t even matter. He just wanted to get another look at Andrew. Maybe next time he saw him stop by Coffee Time, Buck might actually talk to him.
“Wish I could have met you properly,” Buck muttered. “But at least you’re going to be okay. Anyway, I should — I should go. I’m kinda being a bit delusional but I wanted to make sure you were okay.” Buck stood up and he looked at Andrew one more time.
Technically, Buck realized, he didn’t even know if Andrew would be okay. Olivia hadn’t bothered to tell him and maybe she didn’t even know. Looking at him, though, it made Buck hope that he wasn’t too badly off. His heart was a steady beat on the monitor and he was breathing on his own which had to mean something good. Not to mention that if he had been badly off he would have probably been in another place in the hospital like the ICU and not just a regular room.
Buck didn’t mean to linger as long as he did, but sitting there next to Andrew was weirdly peaceful. It was also a lot less lonely. Buck knew he’d made a mistake when he heard footsteps at the door to the room. He didn’t turn at once, hoping to find Olivia or maybe Andrew’s doctor. Instead, he found a police officer. So maybe the nurse had been wrong and someone had called security on him. It was no matter, Buck was ready to go anyway.
The woman stepped towards him. She looked like the very definition of authority. Her hand was on her belt inches from where her gun was holstered and the other she lifted towards Buck as she walked towards him.
“I heard you were responsible for helping him out,” she said and Buck took her hand and shook it.
Her grip was strong and sure. Buck would be stupid if that woman didn’t scare him just a little bit.
“I — I did, yes,” Buck said. Maybe she was just there to question him. “I didn’t — I didn’t see what happened though. Just heard him yell out and then he was on the ground.”
She nodded and made a humming noise. She wasn’t even looking at him though and instead her eyes were settled on Andrew.
“He got lucky you were there, Mr…”
“Buckley,” Buck said. “Everyone calls me Buck, though.”
She nodded. “Sergeant Grant,” she said. “But you can call me Athena. The nurse out there told me you’re Andrew’s boyfriend. I didn’t know he was dating anyone, but you saved his life so that makes you alright in my books even if he didn’t bother to fill me in on this development.”
Athena knew Andrew personally. Suddenly the hole he’d dug himself into felt like it had gotten feet deepert. But maybe if he just told the truth she wouldn’t hold it against him and he could walk out of the hospital without any trouble. Buck couldn’t lie to the police especially when the whole thing was a misunderstanding. All he’d wanted was to make sure that Andrew was okay.
“I—” his words were cut off when three people walked into the room.
They were all in uniform but they weren’t police. They were firefighters. So at least Buck had been right when he guessed that Andrew was a firefighter. It was probably how he knew Athena seeing as they were first responders and probably worked closely together. Buck had always admired first responders and seeing them rush in towards the hospital bed and crowd it checking on their friend and co-worker, it warmed his heart a little. This was what Andrew was a part of.
He went unnoticed for a moment and Buck could have snuck out if he wanted to. But he didn’t want to. Instead, he watched them. They were all in uniform but none of the gear. The woman, dark skinned with a shaved head and glasses stood by the foot of the hospital bed next to an Asian man. The two of them were talking to each other in low tones. The other firefighter was older but he had an easy air about him and an open countenance. He went to stand by Athena and it was Athena that brought attention to Buck.
“He is the one you should thank. Saved Andrew. But you guys probably already know him, he’s Andrew’s boyfriend.”
Buck could have facepalmed for not jumping in and fixing it right then and there but in that moment two more people walked into the room. An older hispanic woman followed by an even older hispanic woman.
“Whose boyfriend?” the younger of the two asked.
“Well, Andrew’s,” Athena said. “I mean, I’m out of the loop all the time but you all share everything so I figured—”
“No,” the woman firefighter said. “No, he hasn’t said anything.”
Her companion spoke up. “I think maybe he’s been seeing someone. Eddie would know.”
They were all looking at him and Buck had no idea what to do or what to say. The older woman was led to a chair by the younger and for a moment they were distracted looking at Andrew but no amount of time could give Buck an out.
“Well anyway, this is Buck,” Athena said. “This is my husband and your boyfriend’s Captain, Bobby.”
Bobby shot him a warm smile.
“That’s Henrietta but we all call her Hen. Chimney is next to her and don’t bother to ask why anyone calls him that,” Athena said with a nod at the other firefighters.
“I’m Josephina,” the younger hispanic woman said. “This is my mother Isabel. Andrew is my nephew.”
Buck looked at all of them. “Hello,” he said. “I’m Evan but everyone calls me Buck. It’s nice to meet you all. And I really — I should apologize because—”
“Oh, you don’t have to do that,” Athena said at once.
“You really don’t. We’re a little pushy and in each other’s business but it’s okay if Andrew felt like keeping you to himself,” Hen said.
“My grandson can be a bit taciturn,” Isabel said but she smiled at Buck.
Buck had no idea how he was going to explain it to them. They were all just so nice and so welcoming and Buck still had no idea if Andrew was straight or bi or gay but all of his friends and family seemed to have no problem with it at all which gave Buck no answers. It made him panic a little, though, and he really needed to set things straight.
“Okay, but I really do need to clear something up—”
Buck had to stop when he realized that Isabel had gone white. “Is something wrong?” she asked. “Pepa, pero tu dijiste que—”
[“Pepa, but you said that—”]
“Mama, no te preocupes. Todo esta bien. Andrew va a estar bien.”
[“Mom, don’t worry. Everything is okay. Andrew is going to be okay.”]
Buck’s Spanish wasn’t exactly perfect, but he understood what they were saying without much trouble.
“The nurse didn’t tell me much,” Buck said when they all looked to him.
“He’ll be okay,” Hen said.
Isabel let out a breath and she seemed to regain her color and she smiled at him. “Thank you, Buck,” she said and there was a bit of an accent in her voice but not much. “And thank you for being there for him.”
“What happened exactly?” Bobby asked.
“I — I’m not sure. I was turned away and I heard him scream so I rushed towards him and he was on the ground passed out. Not too far from the sidewalk but kind of out of view so I had to pull him out of the way and I called 9-1-1.”
“A witness said it was a kid on a bike,” Athena said. “Avoided hitting him head on but Andrew fell. Hit his head.”
In that moment a doctor and the first nurse that Buck had seen walked in. Her eyes narrowed on him when he saw him and Buck knew he was in trouble now.
“What is he doing in here?” She asked. “He’s not supposed to be here. It’s family only and—”
“And do we look like we’re related to him,” Athena said at once. “We are his family. That includes Buck.”
Olivia came running in, then. “Anyway, he’s his fiance,” she said. “Has every right to be here, Maria. Saved his life and everything.”
Buck felt all of their eyes on him and if he had ever wanted the floor or the universe itself to swallow him whole it was in that moment.
“Well...we’re not exactly—”
“You’re engaged!” Isabel said at that same moment.
Hen was covering her mouth and Chimney’s mouth was open in shock. Athena looked a little confused and Bobby almost shared her expression. But it was Isabel that held his attention.
“I — well not exactly,” he said and he noted how Isabel just lit up.
“But he wants to ask him,” the ever so helpful nurse threw in. Olivia was going to be the death of him.
Buck could have face palmed. He was really not getting out of this unscathed.
“Well that is...I—”
Isabel was looking at him with far too much expectation.
“We’re not engaged exactly,” Buck said.
“But you want to be,” Athena said.
Buck had no idea what made him nod.

HOMECOMING — PART ll
Tumblr media
Prologue / Part l / Part ll / Part lll
Summary: The year is 3030, and the divide between the rich and poor couldn’t be greater. Wildwood University is the most prestigious school in the entire world, but it isn’t only because of the impeccable flying cars that can be seen best during the fuchsia lit nights, or the dexterous education everyone receives. It has secrets. A lot of secrets—the biggest being that Taeyong is going to kill you.
Genre: Gang!AU, Futuristic!AU, Dystopian!AU
Warnings: Vivid descriptions of violence, foul language, drug use, and murder.
“You’re new.” Is the first thing that comes from your lips. You’re observing him—eyes trailing up and down his lanky build. He can’t tell whether you like what you see. It’s obvious you’re not easy to read. You have some form of a wall, and it’s up. “And you’ve met Mackenzie.” You eek, mouth forming into a straight line. She can’t hear you, as her headphones are placed in her ears and she seems to be meditating.
“She said you were nice.” Taeyong mentions.
“Oh, she wasn’t lying.” You chuckle. It’s a cute sound. “She can just get...how do I say—a little boy crazy? I wouldn’t be surprised if you told me she had flirted with you. How long have you been here by the way? I’ve missed a lot of class.”
“Today is my first day, actually. And yeah...I think she likes me already.”
“Let me guess—subtle touches, awful attempts to make you laugh?”
“Exactly.” He finds himself smiling from your easy-going nature. He’s not having to jump through the hoops he imagined, as you don’t see him being the new kid as a bad thing. You both are smiling at eachother, but the moment is interrupted when a rubber airplane hits you on the side of the head.
“Can you guys leave me alone for one second? God!” You yell, and Taeyong can see that it actually pissed you off.
“Johnny’s orders.” One of them says, laughing at your annoyance.
“Is that your boyfriend?” Taeyong asks innocently. Of course he knows the truth, but he needs to seem clueless. This will help build his case.
“Don’t even make me think about that.” You barf, holding your stomach and mouth at the same time. “My brother. The guy who escorted me to class as if I haven’t been doing this forever.”
“Maybe it’s because you haven’t been to class recently.” Now it’s his turn to eek, and he gets you to laugh. You think he’s funny.
To the naked eye, it would seem like Taeyong was fond of you. I mean, he was enjoying such stimulating conversation, but he hates you even more now. He seemingly doesn’t remember that Indigo is still in his system, even though it had slightly worn his silent demeanor away. The floating of the desk is kind of making him sick, but he can’t speak on it.
“I try to just focus on a certain something.”
Did you just read his mind? He knows such technology doesn’t exist, right?
“Fun fact, I threw up on my first day of school. Everyone thought it was the funniest thing they had ever seen, but poor Mr. Eddie.” You’re relieving the memory; he can tell. The way your hand reaches for your chest, scratching a non existent rash tells him that this isn’t a memory you laugh at.
“Mr. Eddie? Is that our professor?”
“The professor.” You emphasize. “You should probably know this before class—
“Goodmorning class.” The voice comes from seemingly everywhere, but no one else looks creeped out, so Taeyong keeps his cool.
“Morning.” You all say in unison.
Suddenly, another door in the room reveals itself. A squeak of metal is making itself known, and everyone is either cringing, or covering their ears.
“Is he a fucking—
“Half man, half robot. A fucking robot. It’s crazy because we should be used to it right? I mean, it’s 3030 there are robot people everywhere.”
“It’s just the principle.” Taeyong decides, but in reality his chest is getting tight. He hadn’t even known about this. I mean, he had seen the little robots that could clean a little, and even project news on the wall if you paid a little extra, but this man is walking.
“Jeez Ed!” One of the players yells. “Late to the lecture, and loud. I think this means no homework.”
Is this how annoying the wealthy were allowed to be? Sweaty, presumably blonde jocks who just can’t be settled?
“You all are going to be very upset with me.” His voice is robotic for sure. Everyone begins to pop around, concerned for their professors well being. “But I’m going to have to cancel class. As you can hear, I need more oil.”
It’s like an explosion has taken off, because everyone minus you, Taeyong, and Mackenzie stand up immediately, fighting to get out of class first. It’s chaotic, and it’s making him anxious all over again. It’s not dramatic—it’s slight, but it feels like it can grow to make him actually explode.
“You three need a place to stay?” Mr. Eddie drys, clearly shocked at your presence.
“This is Taeyong.” You introduce. “And while we both know I would’ve been the first one out of here, someone has to show him around.”
“Oh, don’t worry about it Y/N.” Mackenzie speaks suddenly, taking her headphones out. “I’m sure you want to go see Kun anyway. He’s back, right?”
Kun? Who the hell was Kun?
“Kun?” Taeyong questions with a head tilt. “Is that your boyfriend?”
Your hand finds home on your earlobe, and it’s rubbing it softly. There is a smile on your face, but it’s extremely quiet and sad. Whoever Kun is to you, you love him—or at the least care about him. But at the same time, things aren’t peachy.
“No.” Is all you say, slapping your hand to your leg. “Enough about me though!” Your bright nature has returned, and it’s almost weird. He must be your ex, and where was he? Why did he leave and come back? “I have to show you around! I also need to meet your roommate and tell them if they try to hurt you it’ll be their head.”
That’s ironic, he thinks to himself. So badly does he want to laugh something evil because you’re so stupid and clueless, but he contains himself.
“What about me?” Mackenzie is pouting now, arms covering her chest. Does she really thinks that’ll work? I mean, it was quite pathetic.
“You know I love you, right?” Your tone is soft as you speak to her, hands on her shoulder. Your eyes must be as beautiful as he predicted, because her aggressive stance is loosening by the second.
“Of course I do.” She spills.
“Then I know you remember that you have a terrifying essay to write for literature, and that you don’t need to be out all day. Plus, weren’t you trying to go to the race tomorrow?”
“It was in my plans.”
“Then finish your essay tonight. Then, all the boys can see you looking good with the LED lights shining all over you...doesn’t that sound perfect?” You’re painting the picture with your hands, the both of you looking into space.
“You’re right!” She squeals, jumping up at the thought.” “You’ll be there too, right Lee?”
He looks at you for a quick moment, realizing he never told you his “name”. You seem to process it for a moment before looking at him for a response.
“I mean...I can’t make any promises. I’m not the going out type.”
“But I’ll be there. And when I’m somewhere, it matters.”
His ears were bleeding. He just knew it. “Right.” He whispers, trying his best to not sound awkward.
Tumblr media
He should have said no when you offered to show him around. His current feelings were nothing short of introverted, and the farther the two of you walked, the more hot he became.
“I’m sure you’re used to seeing stuff like this.”
Oddly, you don’t seem tired. You had practically shown him the entire East section of the campus, and even he—the cold blooded murderer needed some water.
“Oh yeah.” He says dryly. “You know how it is in Valhalla. There are things everywhere. Blazing lights, fresh air...”
“Exactly.” You smile.
He had to admit, your smile made him feel safe. He still needed to go through with his mission, but it’s nice to know you won’t be annoying him the whole time he’s getting you to trust him. You’re easy going, and he’s already in the friendzone. He just needs to get farther.
There’s a kid coming by fast on his hoverboard, but you’re too busy looking at your watch to even hear the skrting of the device. With a swiftness, Taeyong takes your elbow and back into his hands, and he moves you to the other side.
“Shit.” You breathe out, hand on your chest now. You’re ashamed. “I’m so sorry. I promise I’m not usually this clumsy—well that’s not true, but none the less I—
“It’s okay.” He chuckles, letting his hand slide from your shoulder all the way down to your hand. He squeezes it lightly, and the look in his eyes are swallowing you. “It happens to the best of us.”
And now the two of you are having a stare down. He can see how genuine you are. The way your eyes soften the more time that passes proves this, and Taeyong is mocking your actions. In the pit of his stomach he can feel something, and he reads it to be disgust. God, you seemed like a nice person, but wasn’t this a waste of time? To do all of this and make you think he actually cares?
“Right.” You finally speak, looking at the first tree that appeared in your vision. “Anyways, we should probably go to your room now. Have you been in it at all?”
This must be how you deal with problems—moving on without a second thought. You didn’t like to think about your feelings, but at the same time didn’t that mean you were in touch with your emotions?
“It was my first stop.” He admits. He had heard about the people whos only job was to move people in and out, all for free, but with the belongings he had in his bag, that obviously wasn’t an option for him.
It took his breath away, although everything at Wildwood did. Back in the day, college dorm rooms were tight-knit, with squeezed beds and insects crawling somewhere unless you went to a top school. His room consisted of two king sized beds, and they gave him the option to make it a water bed.
He had already spent his morning hiding everything, so you wanting to come inside was no big deal. As you two journey up the hologram escalator, he noticed you were looking into space even though you should be looking at all the scenery.
“Something on your mind?”
His voice is soft when he speaks to you, and he decides in this moment that he’ll keep it that way. It seems to make you more comfortable, and comfortable means you’ll start talking; trusting.
“Too many things.” You chuckle. Now your eyes are closed, and you seem to be soaking in the good weather as if it’s the only thing good from your day. “No need to burden you with it.”
“It’s not a burden. There’s nothing worse than having no one to go to.”
“Then tell me a little bit about you, newbie.” The two of you reach the top—another door that leads to his complex. Unfortunately, they do separate these things by gender even in 3030.
Taeyong is looking for a key to his room; stopping himself as he realizes he’s not in NEO anymore. All he needs is his thumb. “Nothing much to know.” He keeps it short. “I’m just a regular, rich guy.” His tone is sarcastic, but instead of being skeptical, you laugh.
“Are you always this funny?”
That was the first time other than Mackenzie that someone had appreciated his sarcastic humor. As deppresing as it sounded and was, there weren’t a lot of jokes to be made in NEO. I mean, he usually was completely intoxicated, not wanting to laugh unless he was taking someone’s life. He’s surprised such a sentence could form from him, especially in a place he was dreading so much.
“Nope, just around nice people like you.”
He hates every second of this. He was never one to be in the mood for love, only death, blood, and darkness. He had his fair share of steamy nights in the alley ways with the street whores, but he never cared about them. He never would care about anyone but his brothers, truthfully.
He can’t tell if you’re a mess because he’s not facing you. He’s focused on his print before the door clicks, and the two of you step in.
Whoever his roommate is, he’s here. The room that Taeyong walked into this morning was empty, but this room was now full of boxes and an outfit on the bed. You’re looking around just as he is, except he’s searching to make sure his belongings are still in place. They seem to be. The pathetic rich boys who went here weren’t capable of putting something back so perfectly, so he lets his guard down.
“Well, this is it.” He motions all around the room, appreciating his own effort to keep his side spotless.
“I always wondered what it would be like to live in a dorm.” You sigh.
“You don’t live in one?”
“My dad is kind of....the president of the university. And per his rules, his kids have to stay with him.”
So you still live with your parents? Not odd, but at the same time why would he be trying to keep you around. The buisness, he remembers. It was never specified what it was. Drugs had crossed Taeyong’s mind, but at the same time, so did paper, and loans. But now that he considered it, your father must have business with bad people, meaning others could be out to get you. I mean, he was. No no, Taeyong. That’s too much of a stretch, and even so, she does live at home, which means the mission isn’t compromised.
“At least he cares about you.”
“I guess.” You take a deep breath, and he can’t miss the way you hault.
“What’s wrong?”
“That scent...I know it.” Now you’re looking all around the room at his mates side, touching his things frantically.
“Y/N, who is it? Did they do something to you?”
The door opens—so cliché. On the other side is a built man sporting a tank top and sweatpants. His hair seems to be black—but it could also be blue. His face is serious as he walks in, but the minute he locks eyes with you, they soften. It was the same thing you had done to him not too long ago. His lips are trying to find the proper words say to you, but instead he just stands there. You’re frozen in place—hands locked on one of his clothing items.
Kun. This had to be Kun.

Waverider Detective Agency
Part Nine
(Part Eight can be found here)
Kendra was impressed by the apartment John brought them to. It had three bedrooms, a kitchen, and a large lounge with a balcony that overlooked the city. It occurred to her as she stepped across the threshold that they really didn’t know much about the man whose bar/café/restaurant they used as a second office.
“You look tense,” John noted sitting beside her on the couch.
Kendra sighed, “I’m just worried about them.”
“Come here,” John reached out and pulled her feet onto his lap, “Before you protest, I was the masseuse on a cruise ship for about six months. I am fully qualified.”
Kendra frowned, “Why only six months?”
“I got fired for punching a guest,” John explained, “He was harassing one of the waitresses and when I intervened, he told me to get lost and he’d paid for the perks,” he shrugged, “I decked him and broke his nose.”
Before Kendra could reply, John dug his fingers into the ball of her foot, and she moaned.
“Why did you never tell us you could do this before now?”
“Because I knew I wouldn’t get any peace if I did,” John replied, “Now shut up and let me concentrate.”
Kendra closed her eyes as John worked, both looking over when Eddie appeared from the kitchen on his phone.
“Are you sure?” he frowned, worry covering his face, “Of course. Let me know as soon as you know anything. Thanks, Joe.”
“What’s wrong?” John demanded.
Eddie grimaced, “The car with Rip and Gideon didn’t make it to the safe house. It was found wrecked on the side of the road with Officer Johnson unconscious beside it.”
“This is probably wishful thinking, but could they have went for help?” Kendra asked.
Shaking his head, Eddie grimaced, “We don’t think so.”
“Then Druce has them,” John stated darkly, “And we have no idea where they could be or how to track them.”
“Track them,” Kendra breathed, her eyes widening in realisation, “Eddie, do you have any pictures of the car?”
Confused he shook his head, “But I can get them. Why?”
“Gideon may have something in her pocket that I hope could help us find them,” Kendra explained.
Kendra studied the photos on the screen that Eddie had managed to get for them. She highlighted and zoomed in, making sure she didn’t miss a thing before nodding.
“Okay,” she turned surprised to see Joe West had arrived, “I’m sure Gideon still has a device I gave her that Ray, our tech guy, made. It looks like a toy car so they might not realise what it is.”
“What is it?” John demanded.
Kendra frowned before realising she hadn’t explained, “It’s got a camera and microphone which can link to the laptop for surveillance. We need to talk to Ray to see if he can track it for us.”
“Ray Palmer, by any chance?” Joe asked.
Kendra nodded.
Joe pulled his phone out and began to dial. John clapped Kendra’s shoulder comfortingly while they waited, hoping that she was right, and Ray would help find them.
                                 *********************************************
 “Rip.”
The voice was far away as the blackness surrounding him slowly receded.
“Rip.”
The voice became clearer but so did the fact he was in pain. His ribs and arm ached, but he was sure they were only bruised, not broken. His head felt like someone had used a baseball bat on it, but the world was coming into focus once more.
“Please wake up, Rip.”
He knew the voice, the voice was someone he cared for, someone he wanted to protect.
“Miranda,” he breathed hopefully, despite part of him knowing it couldn’t be.
A hand gently stroked his hair, “I’m sorry, no. It’s Gideon. Please open your eyes.”
Forcing his eyes open, Rip grimaced at the light that hit them but managed to focus on the face coalescing in front of him.
“Tell me we’re in the office and I’m just really drunk,” he whispered.
Gideon gave a sad shrug, “I wish I could.”
Taking several slow breaths Rip managed to sit up and looked around finding they were in a windowless room with a door across from the couch they were both sitting on. Getting to his feet, Rip walked the room knowing there was a camera, more than likely in the corner across from the couch.
Turning back he frowned seeing the black eye Gideon was sporting, annoyed that he hadn’t noticed it until now. Moving to her side he gently tilted her head to check, “Are you okay?”
“It hurts,” she whispered as Rip’s thumb gently stroked the uninjured cheek, “But I’ll be okay.”
Rip sighed, “I’m so sorry, Gideon.”
“This is not your fault,” she reminded him.
“Oh, but it is,” Druce’s voice came suddenly making Gideon jump and Rip stiffen, “Isn’t it, Rip. Because you couldn’t keep your nose out of my business, your wife and son are dead. And now your new girlfriend is about to join them.”
Rip stood and glared at where he was sure the camera was, “Leave her alone. If you want to kill me, do it but leave her.”
Druce’s laughter filled the room, “Rip, you are still so incredibly naïve. I used to find it amusing but now it’s just pathetic.”
“I’m pathetic?” Rip snapped, “You’re the one standing outside the room, watching us. You want to taunt me, do it to my face.”
Silence followed before a definite click of the lock before the door eased open. Rip moved back to Gideon pulling her to stand behind him as the man who created his nightmares stepped inside.
Gideon swallowed in fear as their captor stepped in the room, she could feel the anxiety radiating from Rip as she held onto his arm. Sliding her hand into her pocket she felt the small car Kendra had given her earlier. She’d turned it on the moment she realised it was still there but had no idea if they would be able to use it to find her or if anyone would even know she had it. Druce was holding a gun, and Gideon could see a knife tucked into his belt as well.
“Rip,” the older man said, his voice soft and fatherly, “You have no idea how much this hurts me. I taught you, I trained you and you betrayed me.”
Ripples of anger rippled through Rip’s body, while Gideon held onto him tighter so he didn’t do anything stupid.
“All you had to do was what I told you,” Druce continued, “Keep your nose out of my business.”
“You’ve given me this speech once before,” Rip snarled at him.
Druce chuckled, “Of course the night you got your wife and son killed. We are still assuming he was yours, aren’t we?”
Rip pulled out of Gideon’s hold and lunged at Druce, the older man slammed his fist into Rip’s ribs before throwing him across the room. Rip cried out in pain clutching at his side as he gasped for breath
“No,” Gideon cried, freezing when Druce turned and aimed his gun at her.
He gave her a quick smile, “I see that my boy has a type,” Druce noted conversationally, “You resemble Miranda quite a bit, do you know that? Petite, pretty and, from what I’ve been told, very smart. Unfortunately, you’re going to die the same way she did.”
Backing away trying to find a way to get out of the line of fire, Gideon heard a yell when Druce fired the gun. She fell backwards, sliding off the couch to floor aware only of the pain blossoming in her side.
“No!!!” Rip yelled, pushing himself off the ground towards Druce, managing to deflect the gun slightly. Gideon was hit but it wasn’t a kill shot.
Druce grabbed him, as Gideon fell, “Stupid boy. Now that poor girl will die slowly and painfully instead of quickly. And I’ll make sure you’re here for every second.”
Struggling against Druce, Rip managed to pull away and fell down beside Gideon. He pressed his hand to the wound in her side, trying to stem the flow of blood.
“History repeats itself,” Druce laughed watching them.
Anger filled him and Rip placed Gideon’s hand over the wound, catching her eye so she would keep it there. Mustering all his energy, Rip slammed his shoulder into Druce’s stomach forcing him against the wall, the gun flying out of his hand. The older man grunted before slamming his elbow down on Rip’s back, making him cry out in pain. Druce grabbed Rip’s shoulders and threw him to one side so he slammed into the wall. Rip cried out in pain, his ribs and arm on fire.
“Rip,” Druce shook his head sadly, “I trained you, I nurtured your potential and did everything to make you the best. But you were always so needy. Desperate for a father figure after your own discarded you like the piece of garbage you are. You were so easy to manipulate. A pat on the head and a kind word was all it took. I was happy to shoot you and get rid of you,” Catching Rip’s chin, Druce forced Rip to look at him, “This time, there won’t be any miraculous survival.”
Reaching for his knife Druce frowned, realising it was gone, Rip gave him a malicious smile before slamming the knife he’d lifted during his attack into Druve’s chest.
“That was something you didn’t teach me,” Rip stated coldly.
Surprised, Druce staggered back, clutching the knife as he fell to the ground. Rip dropped down beside Gideon, ripping his shirt to try to bandage her wound.
“Rip,” she whispered.
“Don’t talk,” he told her, “Save your strength. I’ll find a way out of here. Just hold on, okay?”
Gideon gave him a soft sad smile as she nodded.
Noise from outside worried him for a second before he recognised one of the voices.
“Detective West,” Rip yelled, “We’re in here. Gideon’s been shot.”
A few seconds later the room was full of people and Rip was moved away from Gideon who was surrounded by medics.
Joe West led the team into the small cabin that Ray Palmer had given them the coordinates to, they moved through the front room finding a screen showing a small room. Gideon looked to be hurt while Rip leaned over her and there was what looked like a body half in shot.
“Gideon?” Joe called, “Hunter?”
“Detective West,” Hunter’s cry came from the back of the cabin, “We’re in here. Gideon’s been shot.”
Turning to the officer closest to him, he ordered, “Get the medics.”
Heading towards the room at the back of the building, Joe saw the body of Zamon Druce on one side with a knife through his heart while Hunter was kneeling beside Gideon, his hands pressed to her stomach blood covering his hands and her top.
“Medic,” he yelled.
As the paramedics arrived Joe caught Hunter and moved him back from Gideon, helping him onto the couch.
“Are you okay?” Joe asked Hunter, pulling his attention away from Gideon.
“Ribs and arms hurt from crash,” Hunter murmured, “I don’t think they’re broken.”
Joe nodded before asking, “Druce?”
“I did it,” Hunter replied coldly, “I stopped him this time.” He looked up at Joe worry filling his voice, “Is she okay?”
“Maria,” he called over to the lead paramedic who was organising a gurney into the room, “How is Gideon?”
“She’s stable but we need to get her to the hospital,” Maria told him, “Mr Hunter, you need to come with us too.”
Hunter stood, “Is she okay?”
“She should be,” Maria replied, “If we go now.”
Nodding the other man took a step forward and collapsed unconscious. Joe caught him and sighed, “Well that was inevitable. Let’s get these two out of here.”

Venom let out a deep sigh and spoke within Eddie's mind. "No. You look fat in that thing you call a suit," he said. "We don't like it, it makes a pussy of you."
Eddie blinked looking in the mirror. He looked at himself carefully in the reflection, then he opened door to changing room and turned to you. "Sweetheart? Do I look fat? Maybe we should go buy some new clothes?"
You leant casually against opened door to changing room. "Well... I lile the form but that color... What's that even? Shade of brown? I suggested dark grey nor black, honey," you replied.
"Your cunt is right. You look like a shit, Eddie," Venom added.
"I at last look like a human beeing," Eddie growled to Venom. "Will you be so kind, sweetheart, and find something nice? These... Stuff? Aren't my thing," he shrugged smiling at you.
"Sure," you climbed on tiptoes to place a kiss to his cheek, then turned around and went lurking around the shop in attempt to find something nice for Eddie.
"Eddie," Venom formed himself next to Eddie's head. He poked man's temple with his large forehead. "You know what?"
Eddie smiled sweetly and leant against opened door. "Thanks!" Then he looked annoyed at Venom. "What?," he asked frowning.
Venom sticked his long tongue out and licked Eddie's cheek. "You're tasty. And guess what! We're getting hungry. We've asked you to eat that delicious sandwich from Subway but you refused. So most likely we'll eat your guts now."
"Jesus! Don't do that!," Eddie shivered and wiped his cheek. "And I told you that Y/N made amazing breakfast and that you have to live on it till we get back home. You agreed!," Brock growled quietly.
"How we agreed!?," Venom grunted into man's ear. "We remember correctly what we've said: 'ah, ok, but don't be longer than hour', and what time we do have now? It's 2:30 pm! We shall be home since almost 2 hours! What means you're a fucking liar and pussy, Eddie," Venom grunted and hid himself when he spotted you coming back.
"Here," you handled a dark blue suit to Eddie. "Try it on."
"Shut up! You see it's not easy!," Eddie growled at Venom and his attention quickly moved to you. "Oh! You are amazing, sweetheart," Eddie took the suit to try it on.
You waited politely in front of changing room and as soon as Eddie opened the door, you grimaced. "Well... I was expecting it to fit... Better," you replied with a shrug of your shoulders.
Venom formed his head next to Eddie's again. "Exactly, Y/N, just look at that pussy in suit. He looks like a turd. Well, he IS a turd, actually."
"V, hey, apologize," you commanded crossing arms over your chest. "We'll find him a great suit, I promise."
"Yea but until then we're gonna be starved," Venom licked your forearm. "You taste good."
"V!," you slapped his face making symbiote hid again. "I told you to feed him properly because picking the suit ain't gonna last an hour."
"I told him to live on the big breakfast you made," Eddie shrugged and sighed. "Let's.... Just put this suit away and let's go eat something. I wil just put some nice pants and shirt and wile be fine."
You poked his shoulder. "You outta your mind? You wanna put regular shirt and pants on such an event? Never," you smiled. "Let's go grab something to eat, then we come back here and try few more. Is it ok for you? V?"
Venom covered Eddie's face with himself and smirked viciously, nodding. "Perfect, Y/N. At least you understand us. That moment when a girl has bigger balls than you, Ed."
Eddie rolled his eyes and growled as soon as Venom hid. "Get off my face you parasite!"
Tumblr media
After a brief lunch in Subway, just like Venom picked, you and Eddie came back to the clothes store. You helped him pick two suits: one grey and one black.
Unfortunately, within 5 minutes, Venom got bored and hungry again. He formed his head next to Eddie's and sighed deeply. "Y/N, let's quit this. He's too fat to look good in anything. We told him to work his fat ass more but he's lazy."
You couldn't help but giggled. "It's not that bad."
Eddie let out a loud sighed. "Maybe he is right, Y/N. I still have white button-up shirt, pants. I am getting sick of his fucking comments," he said looking at you.
"Only one more," you asked kissing his cheek and stroking his belly. "For me."
When Eddie put another suit on, Venom formed himself once again and moaned longly. "We can't anymore! We're hungry and bored! No one takes care of us! And we didn't want that nice sandwich but chocolate! We need a chocolate! We need endorphins!"
"WHAT?! We ate like few minutes ago! And you wanted to go to this freaking Subway! Stop that! I have my own life too, I can't just take care of you all the time! Y/N! Tell him something!," Eddie yelled in irritated voice.
You blinked and put on poker face. "V, Eddie's right. You disturb us and we really have to pick nee clothes for him," you instructed symbiote.
Venom made a sad face and growled angrily. "No! Because Venom is important too! Not only Brock! Brock is nice and we love him but does anyone love us?! Of course not! Venom, leave this, Venom, leave that, don't eat this, don't eat that, no eating doggos or any other pathetic animals that are common among streets, no! No delicious snacks for Venom! We can't stand this anymore!"
After these words Venom overtook Eddie's body ripping the brand new suit apart and howling.
The customer assistant that approached yelled loudly when she spotted the devastation symbiote made and fainted.
Eddie came back quickly. "Are you kidding me?! We eat what you want, we keep extra food in house FOR YOU! She is petting you like a puppy when she can! And you tell me we don't care?! And you just killed the shopping assistant. Just great!," Eddie sighed and rubbed his face. "What now??"
You watched the entire scene with horror on your face but eventually you laughed shortly. "I think we have to look for some chocolate for our sad friend," you smiled at Eddie and then walked to assistant. "She's just fainted."
"We have chocolate at home!," Eddie reminded.
You looked around shrugging. "So… Well... Let's get the fuck out of here before someone will notice," you winked at Eddie.
"That's our girl," Venom whispered.

Can You Hear My Heart Beat For You? (2/3)
A/N: I know it’s been literally forever. But I did it. I finished this part. I decided to end it here and part 3 is going to be the sexy time. So there will be smut, but this one was already long. I’ll link part 1 incase you need to reread it. I know it’s been so long. Also, I will be finishing the second part of Good Side. I just figured I should finish this first since I started it first. Also my girl Sara gave me the idea for Eddie to say he’s lovesick (the scene went differently than I thought it would so it’s not exactly what we talked about but I still wanted to give her credit for that one)
Pairing: Reddie
Word Count: 3,000k+
Rating: PG-13 for trashmouth
Part 1
(AO3)
-
8 days 1 hour and 17 minutes
Eddie could not for the life of him get his mother to make him another appointment. He knew he couldn’t fake something too terrible, it had to be small and fixable. Like a cold. But the last time he went for a cold he came running out of the doctors room like a bat outta hell so his mother has been worried about sending him back to that doctor. He still refused to tell her exactly why he was running but she accepted the simple “I didn’t wanna be at the doctor anymore Ma” answer so really what more could Eddie ask for.
He had asked Bill a hundred times what he should get a check up for but Bill refused to help him lie to get a guys number.
“Just go into the office and ask for him. Easy.”
“It’s not easy Bill! How many times do I gotta say it?!”
“Oh my dear Eddie. It is indeed that easy. You just can’t accept the fact that you have to put yourself out there to get what you want.” Maybe Bill was right. He couldn’t just expect the world to work around him and his insecurities. He had to step up and take control of his own love life.
“Okay Billy, you’re right. Time to put myself out there.” Eddie stood up quickly, wiped his sweaty palms on his pants, and stormed out of the room. Not even 10 seconds later he was coming back in.
“This is my room, my mom won’t let you stay here alone...”
“It’s also almost midnight on a Friday, I doubt the doctors office is open.” Eddie’s eyes widened.
“Oh yeah. That too...”
It’s been days since Bill had told Eddie to stop being a pussy. As the days passed, so did Eddie’s confidence. It only took him 2 days 20 hours and 56 minutes to decide...he was a coward. There was no way he was going to just march into a doctor’s office to get some perfect boy’s number. He could, however, ask a certain hopeless romantic to help him out.
“Ben, I just need your advice.” Eddie had told him the whole story as soon as he answered. However, he called him on a Monday, his day for studying so Ben was a little less than helpful. He could hear a sigh and rustling on the other side of the phone then silence. He waited.
“Eddie, you do realize you’re an adult right?”
“Of course I do Ben. But I can’t just go and ask him. I just can’t. What if he says no?”
“You’re missing my point. You’re an adult. You can make your own appointment, and go by yourself. Then go from there.”
“Oh,” How had he not thought of that himself. It was so obvious. He wouldn’t have to worry about his mom, and if he changed his mind he could just leave. “You’re right. I can totally do that. Thanks Ben.”
“You’re welcome Eddie. Now please let me get back to his paper. It’s due by midnight.”
“Yes sir! You got this Ben.” And with that, he hung up. He would call in the morning and set up an appointment.
1 day 12 hours 8 minutes
It was time for his appointment. Walking through the too familiar hospital had his stomach churning. His mind kept racing. What if Tozier was taken? What if he was a jackass? What if he was straight?! He pushed down all his thoughts and took a deep breath before opening the waiting room door. He could tell by the mass of people that he’d probably have to wait awhile. There were at least five different families waiting to be seen. Each more annoying than the next. The first name called was an adorable little girl with her hand wrapped in gauze. Eddie assumed some kind of cut; probably pretty bad if they’re coming to the doctor. Eddie got a little nauseous just thinking about it.
He waited an entire hour to be called. Perhaps they were short on staff today. The same fiery redhead called for him with a smile. This was it. This was his chance. Did he know for sure Dr. Tozier would be performing his check up? No. But he decided if he didn’t see Tozier today then that was fate telling him it wasn’t meant to be. This was his ONLY chance. The nurse led him back through the same hallways and down to a similar room as before.
“The Doctor will be with you shortly, you’re welcome to have a sucker while you wait. Oh, I’m Beverly by the way. In case you need anything.” With a smile and small wave, Beverly was out the door. Eddie could feel his anxiety starting to show its ugly head. In just a few short moments he would, hopefully, be face to face with the man of his
dreams. Tozier wasn’t even here yet and Eddie could already tell his face was pink. He would just simply ask. ‘Want sum fuk?’ And that would be that. He had to be casual. He couldn’t let him know he’s been pining since the last visit. A soft knock on the door kicked him back to reality.
“Come in.” Eddie heard himself speak as if on impulse. The door opened and he almost cried. There stood a short middle aged woman, her blonde hair pulled into a tight bun.
“I’m Dr. Sylvia, what seems to be the problem today?” Her voice was soft but confident. Suddenly he forgot what he even thought of to say. He was only thinking of Tozier. Fuck. He obviously didn’t have a cold. He wasn’t throwing up.
“Uhh, I’ve been having some minor pain in my finger and I was wondering if I uh broke it?” The Doctor squinted a little as if confused, then nodded and walked close to Eddie.
“Which one seems to be the problem?” Her hand held out waiting for Eddie to place his.
“My uh, left middle.” He gave her his left and watched as she began bending his finger with no issues. She pressed softly on each section of knuckle. Eddie hissed a bit when she got to where his finger met his palm, realizing he should at least pretend something hurt.
“So here?” She pressed again a bit harder.
“Yeah, it’s not too bad. I was just worried.” She nodded once again.
“Well, it’s most definitely not broken. I believe it could just be that you smashed it a little or hit it on something. I’m sure it’ll get better all on it own.”
“Thank you miss.” He was embarrassed.
“You may leave whenever you like. Thank you for coming in today.” She left the room as Eddie let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding. That was his chance, and Tozier wasn’t here. It was silly of him to think he would have the exact same intern over two weeks later. But wishful thinking is Eddie’s specialty he supposed.
13 hours 45 minutes
After his less than successful trip to the doctor Eddie decided the world hated him enough today, and he would stay in. Forever. Or at least until tomorrow. Sadly, his friends had other plans. Around 10pm there was a small rock on his window. Then another three hit simultaneously. He knew it was Bill, that was his signal to sneak out. He couldn’t be bothered to moved. The covers helped to hide his sadness, his pathetic sadness, from not getting a date with a stranger. A wonderfully eccentric stranger. It’s just...nothing had ever felt that easy. He never felt something so electric so quickly. It was like there was a magnet attached to Tozier’s lab coat or something. He was attracted immediately. His phone rang, pulling him out of his thoughts. With a sigh he answered.
“Stop moping and come out to the new over 18 club with us! It’ll get your mind of your love life. Hell, maybe you’ll even find a cute boy to dance with.” He expected Bill, not Mike, to be calling him. He could easily tell Bill no, but Mike? Everyone knew he’d never say no to hanging out with his homeschooled friend.
“Mike...I just. Wanna lie here and wallow.” If Mike let it go then he’d be golden. He could just stay in bed for the rest of his days.
“Cmon Eddie. Come dance with us. It’ll be fun I promise.” With a sigh and a small squeak Eddie agreed. Saying goodbye and getting up to get dressed. He knew he wouldn’t have time to tame his bedhead the way he’d like to so he settled for just brushing it back into a beanie. He never wore beanies, but he’d be lying if he said he didn’t look cute in one. The light blue beanie matched his light blue v-neck he paired with a pair of black overall shorts. Of course a huge hoodie to cover him until they got to the club as well. A quick and easy outfit, perfect for dancing but not enough to get any unwanted attention. He’d go, dance with the boys a little, then make an excuse to go home.
The club was about a 15 minute drive in Mike’s old pickup. It was still in the city but almost on the outskirts. Eddie watched as buildings faded and passed by the window. His mind still going back to that cute set of curls with an adorable face to match. He was utterly infatuated and there’s nothing that he could do about it. He didn’t even know his fucking name. His plan had failed. His simple, basic, stupid plan. Failed. The dark blue exterior was lit up with seemingly every colored light imaginable. “Nerve” in bright neon caught Eddie’s eye immediately. It was nice. Definitely a dance club.
As they got to the bouncer, the music from inside came busting through the doors. Although muffled, he could still tell they were playing some rap song with a good beat. Getting in the door was easy enough though, Bill and Eddie were now sporting a black X on their right hands symbolizing they were underage. No drinking for them. The other boys went straight for the bar while Bill and Eddie grabbed a booth on the side of the giant dance floor. They would go actually dance later but for now Eddie just wanted to sit.
“So how was Doctor tall nerdy and curly today?”
“Nonexistent.” Eddie looked at his palms, a little embarrassed.
“What do you mean? What happened?”
“I should’ve known it was a dumb plan. He only filled in the last time because the doctor was busy. I didn’t even see him. The world just has it out for me Billy.”
“Cmon Eddie. You know that’s not true. So you didn’t get to ask out this guy? Oh well. There are plenty of guys out there. I know you gotta sort through the bullshit but it’s not like you’re destined meet your soulmate at 19. You have plenty of time my friend!”
“I know, it’d just be nice to have a boyfriend ya know? Or at least a date every now and then so I don’t feel like I’m making absolutely zero progress.” At that, Mike and Ben walked over with some mixed drinks and a few waters.
“These bad boys are for you bad boys.” Mike winked giving a water to both of the younger boys. After that, the conversation went casual. Boring casual, but casual. Eddie was in his own little world. Still wallowing in disappointment. He was watching Mike and Bill talking but couldn’t get himself to actually listen. His mind always going back.
“I’m gonna head to the bathroom. Then probably dance a little, I’ll come get you before I go out there.” Eddie excused himself from the booth and went searching for the bathrooms. It didn’t take too long, just down a hallway, then some stairs, then to the left. On his way through the hallway he spotted an outdoor area with some chairs and tables. Probably for smokers. The bathrooms were nice enough, for a club at least. No vomit on the floor and no shit smeared on the walls so it’s got that going for it. He did his business, washed his hands for exactly 20 seconds, and headed back up the stairs. An obnoxious voice caught his attention as he walked past the outdoor area. Looking toward the voice, his breath hitched.
There he was. Still tall. Less nerdy. More curly. He wore a black flannel over a vintage band tee and ripped black skinny(ish) jeans. He was a walking wet dream. His hair seemed to curl out in every direction and his glasses nowhere to be seen. He couldn’t help but stare, the guy he’d been pining over for weeks was standing 15 feet away. Right next to the redheaded nurse, Beverly? If he remembered correctly. Like some kind of destiny. Eddie was never one to believe in destiny, so maybe it was his doubts that made him walk away or maybe it was just his anxiety but as he met Tozier’s eyes he walked.
More like he ran, as he decided to leave he caught a glimpse of the set of curls making their way toward him. And he ran, like he always did, hoping to whatever would listen that Tozier hadn’t seen him and he could just go to the dance floor and disappear. The dance floor was dark, only a few lights from the stage to illuminate it, and a giant group of people. It was perfect to hide in. He made his way to the middle, slowly moving his hips to the beat as he walked to make it seem like he was dancing. Surprisingly once he got to the middle he saw Mike and some boy dancing. Well more like grinding on each other. As he got closer he could see blonde curls and a cute face. Mike sure does have a type, and this boy is one hundred percent it.
“Hey stranger. Took you long enough to get back.” Mike was smiling and turned to his dance partner. “This is Stan. He got ditched while his friends went out to smoke. I told him I’d keep him company.”
“Hi Stan, I’m Eddie. Mind if I dance with you guys?”
“Well of course you can. That’s what we’re here for isn’t it?” Eddie couldn’t help but smile as they went back to dancing. The music seemed to flow through his whole body. He wouldn’t say he was the best dancer but he could definitely keep rhythm. He was questioning wearing shorts in December but out here on this sweaty dance floor he couldn’t be more happy to have them. It’s just a perk that they also made his butt look pretty good.
“Staniel, please tell me you were going to introduce me to these cuties.” Eddie slightly jumped at the loud voice behind him. He saw Stan roll his eyes but smile.
“Of course I wasn’t Trashmouth. I was saving them the hassle of knowing you.” Eddie turned to see who Stan could possibly be talking to like that, however he wasn’t expecting to be met with the familiar face of a beautiful stranger.
“Well, if it’s the cutie from the clinic! Glad to see cancer hasn’t taken you yet! How have you been feeling?”
“Lovesick...” Eddie couldn’t believe that came out of his mouth, but he couldn’t help it. He was staring again. “Uh! Sick, just sick. But uh, I’m o-okay now.”
“How is it that we meet again little Eddie Spaghetti? Seems like fate doesn’t it?” The smile on the taller boy’s face seemed to stretch ear to ear. He was so pretty. Eddie was royally fucked. He couldn’t even speak. He just stared.
“How is it that you managed to weird out the shyest boy here?” Stan was shaking his head watching the interaction.
“He doesn’t mind, do ya Eds?” He winked. He fucking winked, like Eddie wasn’t having an internal crisis right in front of him. He wanted to speak but with the shock of Tozier standing in front of him he couldn’t say a word.
“Ya alright there Eddie? Do you need to sit down?” Mike was to his side instantly, checking on him. Eddie really didn’t deserve him and he’d remind him of that later. When he could speak. “Let’s get you to Bill and Ben.”
“Wait. I’m a Doctor. I’m sure I can help him.” Tozier was still being as cocky as ever and something about him drives Eddie crazy.
“You’re an intern, not a doctor.” It came out like word vomit. It seemed like Eddie either said too much or nothing at all. If the rudeness of his statement offended the boy he didn’t show it. He simply smiled that ear reaching smile and bent down to get a closer look at Eddie.
“How high is that heart rate, do you think sugar?” His face was inches away and Eddie couldn’t help but count the freckles splattered across his face. His eyes scanned his whole face taking inventory of those freckles, landing lastly on his lips. He could tell they were a little chapped but in this moment Eddie couldn’t think of anything more appealing than smashing his soft lips into them.
“My eyes are up here darling, at least ask my name before undressing me with your eyes.” Eddie felt two fingers lifting his chin so he could get a look into his eyes.
“I-I wasn’t undressing y-you. Don’t be so cocky, it’s not a flattering look on you.” Tozier’s mouth hung open, definitely not expecting Eddie to have an answer.
“He’s a fiesty one! I like a spicy bottom.” It was Eddie’s turn for his jaw to hit the floor. Mike and Stan watched as the boys slipped into their own little world right there on the dance floor.
“A little forward, huh?”
“When I see something I want? Definitely. I can show you just how forward I can be if you’d let me check out that little body of yours again.”
“I don’t even know your name, as you so crudely pointed out seconds ago. Unless your parents named you Trashmouth and for that I’d say I’m so sorry.”
“What can I say? I’m just talented with my mouth.” That smirk again. “You definitely need my name, so you know what you’ll be screaming later. Richie, Richie Tozier. At you service luv.” Eddie cringed at the terrible British accent but couldn’t help feeling smitten at the same time.
“Well Richie. I’m not one to go home with just anyone. So no can do my good sir.” This time Eddie slipped into a British accent, making Richie’s smile even wider.
“My lord, you are perfect.” The sudden softness in his voice sent a shiver through Eddie’s entire body. He was back in Eddie’s face, he could feel his breath on his lips. “Let me at least take you out. I can’t let you run out of my life like I let you run out of that exam room.”
Without anymore thought, Eddie surged forward catching Richie’s lips with his. It didn’t take long for him to feel Richie’s tongue working his mouth open. He’s never been a fan of smoking, but he could get used to the taste of this Trashmouth.
“How about you pick me up tomorrow? I’ll go to dinner with you then we can see where it goes from there loverboy.”
“That sounds like dream.”
