Sanji Gets Rejected (ANGST/FLUFF)
Black Fem Reader in Mind
WC: 2k
CW: Angst, Rejection, Kissing, Fluff at the End
Tumblr media
There he is, doing it again;
“You’re so beautiful, Maam!”
Another random woman he tried to woo on another random island, this one didn’t just push off Sanji this time though, she toyed with him. You guys were docked for a few days to recoup, restock, and relax a bit after escaping another long fight with some marines.
You all went your separate ways, and in that you kept watch of Sanji. It wasn’t intentional but you managed to always bump into him and the woman almost Everytime you stopped somewhere.
“Y/N-SAAAANNNN MEET —“
“Abby.”
She was a beautiful taller woman, she had a very disgusting attitude though, you’ve seen her around a few times and you could tell she used her looks to get what she wanted from men and she most definitely did it with Sanji. You tried warning him about her hopefully she wasn’t working someone that could be hunting you all down but he of course, didn’t listen.
"Sanji we should head back to the Merry soon--"
"BUT Y/NNNN" His voice a pitch higher as he twirled around the woman, looking as unimpressed as ever at the poor boy, "CAN I JUST STAY A FEW MORE HOURS WITH THE LOVELY ABBY--"
"Actually, you guys own A boat right?” Abby walked closer towards you, you stood back a little with a crooked face at her invasion of interest, but before you could decline her Sanji insisted she come for dinner.
“Ji, I—“
“Well of course I’d love to come see what you people—“
“You people?” You Tilt your head at her holding your hip, the hell she mean by that?.
“Yes. How you people live. I never Seen a pirate ship up close and personal. You’d show me. Right Sanji?”
He melted into her hot touch like ice when she caressed his cheek. You groan rolling your eyes at how naive Sanji could be.
The day goes by and you really could not wait until Abby left. She was rude, demanding, arrogant, and nobody even liked her.
She insulted you, Nami, and Robin,
Taunted Chopper and Usopp
Flirted with Zoro behind Sanji’s back
And even mocked Luffy.
But Sanji didn’t even seem to notice because she had him wrapped around her stupid finger.
“When is she leaving?” Nami grumbled in your ear, you both watched Abby and Sanji in the kitchen. He tried showing her some new moves he learned to hold multiple plates at once, but she couldn’t care less.
You on the other hand loved when he did that.
It was finally time for dinner and it was somewhat awkward considering Everytime someone spoke Abby had something to say.
“Oh, Robin I got that tea you liked.” You causally said to her and she smiled back at you across the table.
“Thank—“
“You know I never pegged you pirates to have a level of class about you all….interesting. Especially you—um…uh…”
“That’s y/n-san, my love!” Sanji spoke and came over to take her plate to clean. “She’s one of the classiest women I’ve met!”
“….could have fooled me with that outfit.”
You almost spoke out of turn until you felt Zoro’s hand on your shoulder and he shook his head at you.” She isn’t worth it” he mouthed to you.
After dinner everybody was on the deck doing their own thing, and you and Zoro were trash talking Abby of course.
You more than him though.
“And she had the fucking nerve to say—“
“Why don’t you just tell the damn love cook the truth.”
“What? You don’t think I have? The stupid bitch—“
“Not that…you telling Sanji how much you liked him.”
You felt your soul drop to your feet. Zoro didn’t have a care in the world when he said that, all he did was take a sip of his sake and stared at you, scoffing.
“It’s pretty evident you like the pervert. Why? I don’t know….I’m better looking anyways..”
“What?”
“Nothing. Just—-Stop making it so damn obvious you liked if if you don’t have the guts to tell him. We are leaving the day after tomorrow so after this we never have to see her again—“
“NO!?”
Everybody turned to the commotion in the middle of the ship. It was of course Abby and Sanji , and Abby making a big deal over something.
“No way I won’t join? “ Abby huffed at Sanji’s request. “The pirate life isn’t for me. I’m sorry, sweetheart.”
“…oh…well…I leave in 2 days so…maybe before you leave you can…um…send me off right?”
Abby chuckled at him cupping his cheek, seeing the blood trickle from his nose and his eyes popping out of his face, “y-you’re so beautiful, Abby!”
“Mmhm…so you want me to send you off right?…like…a kiss?”
Sanji nearly exploded, but tried to keep his composure, “y-y-yes! I mean—if you would grant me the blessing perhaps?”
Hearing this conversation was absurd. You didn’t even realize your face was shaped in the look of disgust causing Zoro to snicker at you, “If she bothers you that much then just say something.”
“Say what jackass, ‘hey Sanji don’t kiss her because I want you.’”
“So you do want the love cook—“
“IRRELEVANT!”
You both stopped your bickering to see more of Sanji’s antics, moreso him acting like a complete love struck idiot handing her some roses and a drink,
“Here you go, my love! I got you these from that garden we walked past! And then! And then I made you your favorite! Remember? At the restaurant—“
“Yes. Sanji. I remember….you really are like a little lap dog…” Abby pat his head and once again…more swooning
“I’D BE YOUR LOYAL DOG OF COURSE!” He sung with his heart eyes almost bursting out his head
“And I guess a doggy gets a treat huh.”
You almost didn’t want to stare but you just couldn’t look away. Abby leaned into Sanji and he blushed, eyes closed so prepared for a kiss until.
“Oops.”
You could hear everybody gasping. It was always as if time was still,
“Wha—“
Abby poured the cold drink over Sanji’s head, running not only his hair, but his expensive suit. Right after she throws the flowers in his face to shoulder bump him,
“Nothing personal, but it’s foolish of you to think I’d actually give you; a poor pirate a time of day…I’m actually a little insulted by it.”
Everybody stared in shock, even Zoro seeing her leave off of the Going Merry.
“HEY! WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM YOU CAN’T DO THAT TO MY FRIEND—!”
Luffy went to go run at her, but Zoro and Nami ran and held him back because they both knew Luffy would have easily done another Vivi moment for how rude she has been all evening.
You however walked over to Sanji, arms out and head down, broken glass and petals by his feet.
You felt rage enough rage in your body to just lash out of that stupid stank, but your main priority was Sanji right now.
“San—-“
Your hand touched his drenched shoulder, he didn’t say many words he just took off his jacket and bent down,
“Watch out, Y/N…you may step on some glass.” He looked up at you, eyes just glossing in tears, with a fake smile, “We don’t want you to have another accident again right?”
Your heart was shattered for him watch him fake a smile while on the ground, you couldn’t help but to take his arm and walk him to the bathroom to get him cleaned off as everybody tried calming Luffy down.
You say him on the toilet and took off any remaining flowers and branches in his hair, his skin was sticky from the drink and so you wiped his face with a towel.
“You don’t—-“
“No.” You protested, cleaning him off, “Let me do this.”
Sanji didn’t resist, he sat quietly for a moment. You wished you knew what he was thinking right now so you’d find the right words to say.
“She…she didn’t mean it..”
You paused for a moment. Of course he’d say that. Sighing you decided not to talk back and let him continue to defend her unforgivable actions.
“I was coming on to strong. Maybe if I didn’t —“
“Please stop. Sanji. Please?”
….
“It’s not your fault, Ji..” you combed your fingers through his hair to take out anything else that could have been in it. “I understand why you’d want to excuse her actions but it wasn’t your fault it was hers. She doesn’t deserve a guy like you. You have a kind heart Sanji. Just…sometimes it can be blinded by …women. And I know…you told me how you were raised. Which is why I will never be angry at you for that. I just wish you’d be more..aware of the red flags some women can be. I’m sorry this happened, don’t be embarrassed okay? It—-Sanji.”
You picked up his chin and saw his lip quiver and his eyes teary, dammit you hate when he cries. You squat in front of him and wipes his tears, “It’s okay…it’s—“
“I thought she was going to be my first kiss.”
You blink at him, and he immediately looks away in shame, “no! No! Don’t be embarrassed! Please, Sanji—It’s okay to not have a first kiss! Look at me…”
He does, your thumb on his short stubble and traveling to the corner of his eye. He looked so much like a child you wanted to just scoop him up and hug him all day . “It’s okay to not have your first kiss yet…but when you have it….it should be with someone special y’know?..not some stupid no ass bitch that’s trynna use you.”
Finally, Sanji breaks out into a chuckle, you missed his smile already, it was a pretty sweet silence between you both until you kept staring into his pretty blue-grey eyes, and his in yours. It wasn’t long until your smiles faded and you leaned into him to kiss him softly, immediately feeling his cheeks heating, but you quickly pulled back.
“I’m…I’m so sorry.” You stand up straight touching your lips. “I’m sorry that—that was so wrong of me I—“
Sanji stands to Cup your cheek and kiss you back, he’s a bit shaky and his hands are sticky and clammy but you hold onto his before looking back at him sighing in relief and touch his forehead with yours.
“You didn’t have to kiss me…”
“But I wanted to…for a long time actually.”
Sanji was actually in shock, he stared at you wide eyed, but before he had a blood fest you walked over to turn on the shower for him.
“How ‘bout we um…finish this when you get out of the shower huh?”
“…Ah! Um..yes! Yes of course! I’ll be right out!…thank you, my love.”
You smile at him before leaving, as he showers you await in the kitchen with everybody else and explain to not EVER mention what happened again to him.
“Why? Or did you fuck him to make him fee—OW!”
You smile and wink at Nami for hitting the idiot swordsman in the head and his stupid comment.
Once Sanji comes back he is actually in a better mood, he looks lighter and happier, but he just couldn’t keep his eyes off you.
The whole time he bathed he kept touching his lips thinking of you. Abby was far off of his mind and you were now in the forefront .
Late that night Sanji finished dinner and dessert for everybody but asks for you to stay in the kitchen with him. You felt a bit nervous, but that wasn’t until he sat beside you and hugs you tightly.
“I never got to thank you properly.” He says in your ear with a small peck, “You’re too kind….I’m glad you were my first.”
That night you both stayed up not just kissing, but talking too, he still swooned a bit whenever you reached to kiss him on the corner of his lips but the whole night went so smoothly, you never saw such a relaxed side to him. And you loved it.
Little did you know the impact you made for such a small gesture to the little love cook.

Sailing Towards LuNa Part 5
Tumblr media
What is going on all of my LuNA brothers & sisters it has been quite a very long time since I’ve represented the journey of Luffy and Nami’s relationship. If anyone is curious as to why there’s been such a hold up it’s not because I got bored of doing the build up, but more so on everything that was happening on my end in terms of family,  completing my bachelors (which I accomplished), and of course working on my book (now currently in the revision stage as of this year).  More or less it was just that I’ve had a lot on my plate in the last 2 years, and with 2020 coming to end I felt it was right to continue the journey again. You could also say the contributing factor is me finally reading The Wano Country Arc, and rewatching the anime from the beginning again.  Anyway, lets hit the show on the road from where we left off last time.
The crazy thing is I can’t believe it’s been 4 years since I’ve done one of these, and it’s crazy to think how much has happened since I started this Sailing Towards LuNa project, and I feel leaving everybody off with that hell of a cliffhanger it was pretty insane in all fairness.
That being said,  Let’s go ahead and continue from where we last left off,  shortly after they escaped from the verge of death by the sea monster,   Nami has become ill, and when she sits up in bed you can tell... Luffy has a different reaction compared to everyone else.   He is very happy that she is up, but it’s a very simple approach unlike the others...
Tumblr media
Despite her sicknesss, we can see Nami explaining the situation about Vivi’s hometown to Luffy and he understands the given situation at the hand.  Doesn’t matter if Nami is sick,  she is able to get through to Luffy much to her surprise.
Tumblr media
Not long after Luffy asks her if she’s feeling better again, but the only major difference is that he doesn’t know for sure this time around.  Which  is something Nami tries to brush off saying that she’ll be completely fine, and appreciates that Luffy is worried about her.
Tumblr media
Luffy checks on Nami’s temperature by placing his hand on her forehead and we can see how concerned  he gets for wellbeing to a point where he’s willing to hold off going to Alabasta and get Nami to a doctor at all costs.
Tumblr media
Look at how happy he is hearing Vivi’s decision in agreeance to  take a detour to ensure Nami’s health being a top priority above all else.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This moment doesn’t feel like much, but when Nami is waking up in the middle of the night, the focus of this panel is entirely centered on Luffy being aseep.  That will come back into play a little later in due to time.
Tumblr media
When Luffy hears about the Island  he really wants to go see it, bu at the same time he wants to remain by Nami’s side until he’s given the okay to go.  Which is something Zoro assures of him.
Tumblr media
I remember this next part portrayed Luffy as slapping Nami on the face, but in the manga it is shown that he gently taps her in the face with his fingertips. No hand movements are visible within this particular moment either.  He gently taps her in the face to to assure her that he’ll carry up the drum rock.
Tumblr media
Everyone as expected is opposed to the idea of Luffy carrying Nami all the way up there, but Nami herself tells them that she’ll leave herself in Luffy’s hands with a sweet smile on her face.
Tumblr media
A comment is made in the crew about how crazy Nami and Luffy are in this particular instance. That is definitely a fair point especially since Luffy takes into account that Nami’s life could be in serious danger if even one error on his part occurs throughout their way up.
Tumblr media
Just as Luffy carries Nami on his name he tells her specifically to hold on tight, and we get to see that right here.
Tumblr media
Here we can see Luffy being conflicted about his actions because of the harm that it could bring to Nami in her curent condition. At the same time, we can also see Luffy being gentle with her as he gives her his coat for extra warmth while he leaves his hat to ensure to everything will be just fine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In times like this it can be noted how forgetful Luffy can be, but doesn’t happen when it comes to Nami’s safety first and foremost.  He recalls everything that Sanji told him when it came to Nami’s condition about how the shock could envelop into her body, and that causes him to run away for her sake.
Tumblr media
In spite of all the sweat blood Luffy’s been endearing the entire way through, he reaches the exact spot he needed to be so that Nami could recover  as well as Sanji who had caught in the middle of the whole trip.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nami’s immediate thought goes straight to Luffy who was able to carry her all the way up there, and of course there was also Sanji too who was able to give his two cents on the matter as well
Tumblr media
A little after Nami recovers from her fever,  She invites Chopper to come join their crew, and likewise it’s something Luffy does as wel to invite the doctor reindeer onto the ship as the ship’s doctor.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This next part of their conversation is something I don’t really see a lo mentioning, but it’s one that really stick out to me about Luffy and Nami. Through their dialogue here it paints them as a bit of an old school couple like they’ve each othr for their entire life.  Not to mention a cute moment where Nami offers Luffy to where her jacket.
Tumblr media
Towards the very last second Luffy comes in to save Nami from Wapool.
Tumblr media
Then there is the usual comedy banter moments that are present between Luffy and Nami which is really sweet, but really showcases how charming their personalities are together.  A combination of being very funny yet sweet all at the exact same time.
Tumblr media
There is a bitter look on Nami’s face when she recalls Kureha’s words just as she’s watching over Luffy and Chopper.
Tumblr media
In this regard, Luffy didn’t disappoint for even an ounce of  a second because of what he tells Chopper, and that leaves Nami with a bright smile.
Tumblr media
As we are shown right here below based on her facial expression.
Tumblr media
That is pretty much all I’ve got to say for the time being when it comes to LuNa and the journey we’ve been on for the longest time. There was a point where we’ve been stuck on a cliffhanger for the longest time, but from here on out it’s gonna be a full stop adventures as we continue Sailing Towards LuNa, and we’ve certainly still got a long way to go.

On the 3rd Day of Ficmas, I give thee: 3 thousand words! (plus 2k more)
A/N: This is a supplementary chapter that takes place after the conclusion of my college au, Come On, Collide. If you didn't read that in its entirety and do not wish to be spoiled on anything, please don't read this yet! This is also in celebration of 1000 followers on my twitter account, and as such this was picked by my twitter followers (though they didn't entirely know what they voted for).
ENJOY!
Zoro blew into his hands and rubbed them together, trying to keep them warm as he watched Sanji on the phone a few steps away. He couldn’t quite hear what was being said, but judging by the smile on his face it was all good news. After a moment he hung up and joined Zoro once more, not even flinching as he plunged his hands deep into Sanji’s pockets and buried his face in his boyfriend’s neck.
“Fucking cold out here,” he grumbled.
Sanji laughed. “I told you you didn’t have to come with me.”
“I just don’t understand why those idiots would wanna live somewhere that gets so cold.”
“They like snow,” Sanji said, still chuckling. “That was Yonji, by the way, they got to the resort alright.” He looked around. “Where’s Tora?” Zoro nodded over Sanji’s shoulder and he turned as much as he could, easily spotting the black labrador against the snowy backdrop. Her nose was to the ground as she hastily searched something out, her ears perked up on high alert. “Tora! Come on, girl, time to go home!”
The dog raised her head sharply at the sound of her name, cocked it to one side, and - finally recognizing Sanji - took off running toward the couple at full speed.
“Here she comes,” Zoro said, deftly extracting his hands from Sanji’s pockets so he could drop to one knee and receive the brunt of her energy, which he did easily. Sanji watched as Zoro and Tora played around a bit, a small smile on his face.
“Come on,” he said, nudging Zoro with his foot. “Let’s go home.”
“Alright girl, let’s go home.” Zoro clipped her leash on, handed it to Sanji, and once more crowded his space and shoved his hands in Sanji’s pockets. “Come on, come on, let’s go.” Sanji laughed again and obliged, letting Tora lead the way home. Once they were inside and Tora was freed from her leash, Zoro set about making a fire as Sanji dropped onto the couch. He watched Zoro a bit before his eyes began to roam the room, taking in the various pictures and decorations that were so very much Sabo and Yonji. He felt a slight tug on his heart as he remembered the previous night and how happy his baby brother looked to finally share a name with the love of his life. It was a bit bittersweet; since they’d graduated, gotten their own place, and opened their business, Sabo and Yonji made appearances at hangouts less and less, and no one could blame them. They were busy, everyone was. They were all getting older, starting their own lives but…it still sucked a bit. And now that they were married…Sanji knew that brothers went their separate ways eventually, it was just hard to let go of his, especially Yonji, because he’d missed out on so much of their childhood.
A soft kiss was pressed to his cheek, pulling Sanji back to the present to see Zoro smiling at him, seated comfortably beside him on the couch. Sanji didn’t hesitate to curl into his side and get comfortable as well, sighing as he nestled into his boyfriend’s warmth. “I don’t know why you’re always cold,” he said quietly, “you’re like a personal heater.”
“What are you upset about this time?” Zoro asked, ignoring the comment.
“I’m not upset.”
“Yes you are, you had that face when you were lost in thought. Talk to me.”
“I just miss my brother.”
“Ah.” Zoro thought for a moment. “Maybe we should get a dog.”
Sanji sat up slightly. “What? Where did that come from?”
Zoro shrugged. “It might make you feel less lonely.”
“We can’t get a dog just because I’m feeling lonely.”
“No,” Zoro smirked, “but it did get you to admit that you’re also feeling lonely.”
Sanji slumped against Zoro and hid his face. “I hate you.”
“I don’t know why you don’t just tell me things like this, I’m not gonna make fun of you.”
“It’s just…tedious. I’ve been gloomy about this for months, I’m sure it’s exhausting.”
Zoro pulled Sanji a little closer and pressed a kiss to the top of his head. “I will never tire of being the person you confide in. Ever.” He kissed him again, this time aiming for his temple. “And honestly, it makes sense. You had to give your brothers up when you were little and you finally got them back. Now it feels like you’re losing them again.”
“Yeah. And I guess…I don’t know. I feel like I’m stalling out.”
“You’re not stalling out, we’re just in a weird place cuz we’re graduated and your job doesn’t start for a couple months. You’re probably stressed from the wedding and stressed about the move and stressed about your new job…it’s a lot. You’re allowed to feel overwhelmed and emotional. And it is my job as your most special and most important and most handsome person to support you when you feel that way. So let me do my job, ok?”
Sanji settle back into his embrace with a contented sigh. “Yeah…yeah. Ok.” They sat in silence then, entranced by the crackling of the fire and the sound of Tora chewing on one of her toys. He smiled at the dog absently, impressed - as he always was - by just how well behaved she was.
If he was being honest, Sanji was glad for the short break from everything going on in their life. Zoro was right, it was all overwhelming, and it had been a while since he felt like his head was above water. If it wasn’t for Zoro, constantly dragging him to bed and making sure he ate and yelling things like “hydrate!” and “posture check!” through the house randomly, Sanji was certain he’d be lying lifeless under a pile of paperwork and moving boxes by now. And even time with Zoro felt rare; the fact that he was shouldering 100% of the effort in their relationship was not missed by Sanji, and that fact only served to make him feel worse. So when Sabo and Yonji asked them to house & dog sit while they were on their honeymoon, Sanji jumped at then opportunity. They’d already be in town for the wedding, why not stay a few more days and just…unwind?
After nearly 3 weeks away from all the chaos, Sanji was already feeling like he didn’t want to go back home. Yonji constantly talked about how much he loved their little town, how it felt so cozy and welcoming, but Sanji didn’t understand it until a few days prior. He wondered if their new place would feel like that. Certainly it would be more warm, but would they feel welcome? Would they be able to describe it as cozy?
“Awful lotta sighing happening over there, love. Wanna talk to me?”
“Just thinking about the move.”
“Hmm.”
Sanji sighed again. “What?”
“What about the move?”
“Just…all of it.”
“Sanji.”
“Zoro.”
“I’m fine with the move.”
Sanji snuggled closer, hiding his face slightly.
“I wouldn’t have told you I was ok with it if I wasn’t. I don’t mind the move.”
“Weren’t you the one who said you wouldn’t know what you’d do if you couldn’t see your sister every day?”
Zoro laughed. “I didn’t mean I could never do anything if she wasn’t glued to me. I’ll be fine. I’m not just gonna send you off and hope all is well.” He caught Sanji under the chin and tilted his head up so he could speak directly to him. “I want to start this new chapter with you. Is that so hard to believe?”
Sanji frowned. “I’m asking you to leave everything behind for me.”
“Well…” Zoro smiled softly. “Not everything. I’ll still have you.”
“How can you be sure that’ll be enough?”
Zoro shrugged. “Always been enough in the past, it’s enough right now. No reason to think that won’t continue to be the case.”
“Sometimes…” Sanji dropped his gaze as he tried to choose his words carefully. “Sometimes I’m jealous of Sabo and Yonji, of this nice comfortable life they have. They just seem so content. No stress. No feelings of being overwhelmed. Just…this. A gorgeous house, a dog, each other…what if we move and we don’t feel welcomed? What if we hate it there?”
“Then we go somewhere else.”
“Just like that?”
“Just like that.”
“But—“
“Let me make this easier for you. This?” Zoro said, gesturing between the two of them. “This is it for me. There’s no version of my future where I’m not by your side. Making this move with you wasn’t even a question in my mind. It still isn’t. If you’ll have me, I’ll be there because that’s what I want. That’s my content.”
“I just worry you’ll be miserable and it’ll be all my fault.”
“If I don’t like the new place you can just walk around in some of that lingerie, problem solved.”
Sanji barked out a laugh. “You’re an idiot.”
“It’s weird, I thought I hated it here but there are thighs warming my ears so that can’t be right.”
“Shut up!” Sanji yelled, playfully slapping Zoro’s chest as he laughed harder.
“Just real hard to complain when you can’t breathe, that’s all I’m saying.”
Sanji buried his face in the crook of Zoro’s neck and held him close, his shoulders shaking as he continued to laugh. “I love you,” he said quietly, more as a reminder to himself than anything.
Zoro once more kissed the top of his head. “I love you, too.” Then, lowering his voice slightly, he added, “you know this.”
“I know, I know, I just…”
“Think too much.”
“Yeah.” Sanji scrunched up his nose. “Sorry.”
“You don’t have to be sorry, I know you can’t exactly help it. But hey, we’ll have our version of,” he gestured to the surrounding house, “this, just give it time. We’ll start our new jobs, get settled in the new place, decorate it a bit, christen it a lot, and it’ll feel like home in no time.”
Sanji took a deep, calming breath and smiled at Zoro. “You’re right. I know you’re right. I’m just...” He gently but firmly patted his cheeks a couple times. “You know?”
“Surprisingly? Yes.” Zoro kissed him and Sanji wasted no time crawling fully into his lap, straddling him and burying his hands in Zoro’s hair. “Sanji!” Zoro gasped, feigning shock. “On your brother’s couch? In front of their dog?”
Sanji threw his head back and laughed, his earlier worries seeming so small and insignificant, he wondered why he let them loom so big at all. His laughter quickly gave way to a low, satisfied moan as Zoro took advantage of his exposed neck, sucking and biting and licking the flesh there until Sanji made the noises Zoro loved oh so much.
“Zoro hurry up, we’re going to be late!” Sanji pounded on the bathroom door, pausing just long enough to check the time on his phone. “The reservation is at seven!”
“I know what time the reservation is at, I made the damn thing!” Zoro yelled. “Just…gimme a second, ok? I’m almost ready.”
“You’ve been almost ready for half an hour. What’s the hold up?”
“I’m just…just gimme a minute!”
Sanji paused. He could hear the frustration in Zoro’s voice, but something told him it was directed at him. He leaned against the door, folding his arms across his chest. “What’s up?” He asked, his voice notably softer. “Anything I can help with?”
There was a beat of silence, followed by a sigh. “Yeah, actually…can you tie my tie?”
Sanji nearly fell over in surprise. “Your what?”
The door swung open, revealing a very well put together, very embarrassed, Zoro. “My tie.” He held the strip of fabric out to Sanji. “I can’t tie the damn thing.”
Sanji smiled softly. “Is that what you’ve been trying to do this whole time?” Zoro nodded and Sanji’s smile grew. He took the tie and closed the distance between them as his hands went to work. “Why didn’t you ask me sooner?”
“Wanted to surprise you,” Zoro mumbled.
“Well, I am surprised. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you wear a tie. Even at the wedding you just wore a really nice shirt.” Sanji narrowed his gaze playfully as he tightened the knot into place. “What’s the occasion?”
“Takin’ you to dinner.”
“You’ve done that plenty of times. Never with a tie.”
“Wanted to look good for you.”
“You always look good.”
“Yeah, but…” Zoro took a step back, straightened his jacket, and opened his arms a bit. “Have I ever looked this good?”
Sanji wanted to say something smart or sarcastic or biting, banter with Zoro a bit like they normally did but…he couldn’t. Anything he wanted to say disappeared from his mind as he really took Zoro in. His suit was a deep green, almost black, and was very clearly tailored. Zoro in a suit was trouble enough on its own, but the way this one hugged his body? Fuck, Sanji was in trouble. Zoro’d also gone as far as slicking his hair back, and for the first time in his life Sanji felt like he was under dressed. “Fuck,” he finally said, the word sounding more like a breath than a statement. “No, never. You…shit.”
Zoro caught Sanji by the hips and pulled him against him, smiling wickedly. “Put your tongue away, our reservation’s at seven.”
“I could not care less right now.”
Zoro laughed hard. “Well, as much as I’d love to throw you on the bed and fuck the life outta you–”
“With the suit on, I hope.”
“Yes, of course. As much as I’d love to do that, I’ve also been dying to take you to dinner for months, I’m not missing this.”
Sanji frowned. “That’s why you got so dressed up? Cuz we haven’t had a date in a while?”
“I got dressed up cuz I wanted to see your reaction. But it has been a while and I’d really like to spoil you tonight. That starts with a fancy dinner that you don’t have to cook.” Zoro took Sanji’s hand and pressed a kiss just below his knuckles. “But that you may judge to your heart’s content.”
Sanji’s face turned bright red in a second. “I don’t judge the food when we’re on dates!”
“You do and it’s adorable. Now,” he tightened his grip on Sanji’s hand, “let’s get going before they give our table away.”
The drive to the restaurant was uneventful. The radio played quietly and the two talked about whatever popped into their minds and Zoro held tightly to Sanji’s hand, pressing kisses into his knuckles periodically. He let go only long enough to open Sanji’s car door, then they were once more hand in hand. Even once they were seated across from each other at their table, Zoro’s hand found Sanji’s, his thumb gliding gently over the blonde’s fingers as they talked. Maybe it was the romantic atmosphere, maybe it was because they hadn’t been on a date in a while, or maybe it was just the tailored suit…regardless, something about the evening was making Sanji’s insides feel like warm goo. Every time their eyes met, Sanji’s face would heat up and it would take everything inside of him to not look away. Zoro would just smile and kiss Sanji’s hand, never once breaking eye contact.
Holy shit, Sanji was so in love it wasn’t funny.
Zoro surprised him further when, after dinner, he asked Sanji if he wanted to go for a walk. The night was still, but there was also fresh snow on the ground and Zoro wasn’t dressed nearly warm enough to walk around in it given how cold he normally got. But when asked, he said he was sure and simply held out his arm for Sanji to take. He did so happily.
The walk led them to a small enclosed ice patch, atop which a few couples were skating. Fairy lights hung about the space, illuminating everything with a warm yellow glow. Sanji’s eyes lit up at the sight and squeezed Zoro’s arm, nuzzling his cheek against his bicep. “One of these days, I’m gonna get you all bundled up and make you go ice skating with me.”
“Why not tonight?”
Sanji looked at him, surprised. “What?”
“Let’s go skating tonight.”
“We don’t…” Sanji trailed off as Zoro pointed at something across the ice. He looked closely and noticed a man, bundled against the cold, with a sign beside him that said simply, SKATES.
“We can rent some. Come on.”
Sanji stayed put. When Zoro realized he wasn’t budging, he gave his boyfriend a warm smile.
“You don’t want to?”
“What are you up to?” Sanji asked, suddenly feeling like he was being watched.
“You always talk about going ice skating, and Sabo told me about this spot in case I wanted to do something romantic while we were here. And I wanted to.”
“So you expect me to believe you got a tailored suit, made a reservation at an amazing restaurant, wore a tie, and now you want to go ice skating?”
“Yes.”
“But you’re not up to something?”
“Nope.”
“Sounds fake.”
Zoro chuckled. “Is it so outlandish to think that I’ve missed you?” He gently cupped Sanji’s cheeks and kissed him softly. “I understand you’ve been busy, I understand it’s been necessary, and you know I’m not mad about any of it. But I’ve missed the fuck outta you. I’ve been planning this night for a while, weeks really. Maybe even months. I wanna sweep you off your feet, make you feel like you’re flying even after you’re back on the ground. Like I said, I wanna spoil you. So yes, I bought a suit just for tonight. Yes, I got us a reservation at a nice restaurant. Yes, I want to go ice skating. Yes, I wanna take you home and fuck you so, so good. I want to give you the best night of your life, is that so hard to believe?”
Grinning ear to ear, Sanji threw his arms around Zoro’s shoulders and hugged him tight. “I don’t fucking deserve you.”
“Well you’re stuck with me, so learn to deal with it.”
Zoro insisted on putting Sanji’s skates on for him, taking great care to remove his shoes and even greater care to slip the skates on. Once he’d fastened his own, he took Sanji’s hand and shakily led the way to the ice, Sanji giggling the whole way. “You’ve never skated before, have you?”
“Nope.”
“Ok. Here.” Sanji stepped out onto the ice like it was as natural as walking. He spun to face Zoro and, smiling wide, offered both his hands. “Come with me, I won’t let you fall.”
Zoro gladly took the outstretched hands and gave Sanji his full weight as he slowly, little by little, made his way onto the ice. “This is so dangerous,” Zoro said, his eyes glued to his feet. “If you feel me start to fall just let me go, don’t let me take you down with me.”
“Have a little more faith in me,” Sanji said. “I’ll keep you up, I promise.”
Zoro raised an eyebrow.
“Shut up. You know what I mean.” Sanji tightened his grip on Zoro’s hands. “Ok…do you trust me?”
“With my life.”
“Then let’s go.” Sanji began to glide backwards slowly, pulling a wobbly Zoro with him. “Shift your weight between your feet, hold your balance with your core…good…good…you’re getting it…”
“Like hell I am!” Zoro said, laughing as he continued to wobble after his lover. “I look ridiculous!”
“Because you’re too stiff! You have to move your feet!”
They carried on like that a while longer, until Zoro was able to slowly and mostly smoothly skate beside Sanji, rather than behind him. He apologized a few times about how bad he was, but Sanji just laughed and told him he had nothing to apologize about. He was just glad Zoro had tried, and that they could do even this much together. They were skating back to the entrance when it happened; someone caught Sanji’s eye, someone who looked a lot like Yonji, and while he was distracted, Zoro lost his balance and took a spill. He let out a small yelp and Sanji turned just in time to see his knees hit the ice, and then he was beside him in a flash.
“Oh, shit, I’m sorry!”
“Not your fault,” Zoro said, dusting off his hands. He lifted one knee up so he could brush some of the ice shavings off when Sanji offered his hand.
“Yeah, but I said I wouldn’t let you fall. I’m really sorry.”
“It’s really not a big deal, don’t be too upset about it.”
“At least let me help you up. Are your knees alright?”
“Knees are fine. And so, thankfully, is this.” Zoro pulled something out of his pocket and held it out to Sanji, and suddenly everything made sense. The suit. The tie. The dinner. The walk. The ice skating. The knee. Sanji took a step back, his hand reflexively moving to cover his mouth as his eyes filled with tears.
“I knew it,” was all he could say. “I knew it, I knew it, I told you you were up to something!”
“I know you’re nervous about asking your boyfriend to move across the world with you,” Zoro said, his voice soft and calming. “So…what about asking your fiance to do it?”
“That…you…idiot!”
Zoro laughed. “I meant it when I said you were it for me, Sanji. I feel like I’ll pop if I love you anymore than I do, but I know that how much I love you today has nothing on how much I’m going to love you tomorrow, and the day after that, and so on and so forth until I stop waking up, and even then, who’s to say? Even with eternity stretched out before me I know my love for you will only grow with each setting of the sun. You are everything I could ever hope to want,  you are the only person I need by my side, and I would be so fucking happy if you’d do me the honor of letting me marry you.”
“Did you fall on purpose?”
Zoro blinked. “What?”
“You fell on purpose. Oh my god, I felt so bad for a second!”
“Sanji, love, focus.”
“On?”
“What do you mean on? On the question!”
“In what reality would my answer be no?”
“You could still say it!”
“Say no?”
“SAY YES!”
“Well if you’re gonna demand it…”
“Oh my god.”
Sanji dropped to his knees as well, tears streaking his cheeks. “Of course you can marry me, Zoro. Nothing would make me happier.”
Zoro slipped the ring on his finger before pulling him into a searing kiss, paying absolutely no mind to the various onlookers who started applauding and cheering.
One particular cheer caught Sanji’s attention and he turned toward the sound. It was one thing to think he’d seen Yonji, but hearing him, too? That’s when he saw them, not just Sabo and Yonji, but everyone: his brothers, Zoro’s sisters, both their parents and all their friends were gathered at one end of the little ice rink.
To Sanji’s surprise, Zoro got to his feet easily and offered a hand to Sanji, once more hauling him into a kiss once he took it. “You fucking liar,” Sanji said with a playful glare, before turning on the small crowd. “You’re all fucking liars!”
They reconvened at the house, where everyone toasted the newly engaged couple with champagne and various desserts. Sanji stayed by Zoro’s side most of the night, the feeling of his arm around Sanji’s waist sending little shivers up his spine. Zoro’s fingers tapped against Sanji’s hip, each one seeming to echo the same word: mine mine mine mine mine.
It took all Sanji had to keep his hands to himself.
“So…no honey moon?”
Yonji turned, smiling when he saw his brother. “We leave tomorrow,” he said, turning back to the balcony railing as Sanji joined him. “We weren’t about to miss this. Can I see it?”
Sanji held out his hand, showing off the simple blue metallic band. Yonji whistled. “Yeah,” Sanji said. “He did good. So all that shit about getting to the resort safe…?”
Yonji chuckled. “Zoro called us a few days before you guys got here, explained what he wanted to do and asked if we’d be willing to stay around another day.”
Sanji looked slightly uncomfortable. “So were you…home last night?”
“Why? You do something in our house you don’t want us to know about?”
“We…uh…well…”
Yonji laughed loudly and clapped his brother on the back. “Relax, I’m just fuckin’ with you. We’re not expecting you to be celebate, and no, we weren’t home last night. We got a hotel room.” Sanji opened his mouth to object, but Yonji held up a hand. “Which Zoro offered to pay for, but we were fine covering it ourselves. And it was nice to feel like we were stepping away while still being able to be here tonight.”
“Well, I’m glad you were. That was my one worry when I realized what he was doing; ah crap, my family’s not here.”
“He knows you too well to let that happen.”
“Yeah.”
Yonji studied his brother for a minute. “Something wrong?”
“Just…I’ve been freaking out about asking him to move with me. You don’t think he did this just because of that, do you? Like…I didn’t force him to propose, right?”
“Absolutely not.”
“But—“
“No, Sanji…Zoro started planning this a year ago. You hadn’t even gotten the job offer yet. You didn’t force anything.” Yonji clapped him on the back again, this time with a lot more force. “Hate to break it to ya, bro, but I think he’s just in love with you.”
“Are we talking about my stupid brother?” Nami sidled up beside Sanji leaned over the railing slightly. “If so, yeah, idiot’s so in love. Never thought he’d actually find a good one but here we are.” She smiled at him. “Did he surprise you?”
“Yup. Had an answer for everything.”
“I’m surprised his brain cells cooperated long enough to pull this off, honestly. He’s never been a good liar.” Nami shrugged. “Guess you really do bring out the best in him.”
“I try.”
“Now everyone say thank you, Yonji.”
Nami made a face. “What? Why?”
“Yeah,” Sanji said, “why?”
Yonji looked unimpressed. “Uh, cuz if I hadn’t insisted Zoro join us that weekend, you two may not have made up? You’re welcome.”
“Made up?” Nami asked, her eyes darting between the two. “Did something happen?”
“Sa—“
“NO NOTHING!” Sanji said quickly, pinching his brother to help him read the room. “Nothing happened! We just had a slight misunderstanding, that’s all. Fixed it in no time.”
A darkness passed over Nami’s features that had both Sanji and Yonji taking a step back. “A misunderstanding, huh?” She cracked her knuckles one by one, first the right hand, then the left. “This misunderstanding, did it happen to hurt his feelings?”
“I think feelings got hurt on both sides,” Yonji said, scrambling to diffuse the tension.
“Nami, listen, it was just a stupid misunderstanding, he and I worked it out. I’ve made it up to him a thousand times over!”
“You also made my baby brother cry.”
Sanji took another step back, yelping slightly when his back hit the wall. Panic rose in him quickly, until the wall…wrapped its arms around his waist?
“Almost cry,” Zoro corrected, dropping his chin onto Sanji’s shoulder. He smiled at his fiance, pressing a quick kiss to his cheek. “I was wondering where you’d wandered off to.”
“Help,” was all Sanji could manage, his eyes still glued to a fuming Nami.
“It’s fine, sis, ease up. Wouldn’ta proposed if any real damage had been done. Like Curly said, just a stupid misunderstanding. And he’s made it up to me so many times.”
The suggestive tone Zoro used seemed to do the trick, because Nami instantly dropped the look of anger in favor of pretending to gag. “Spare me the messy details,” she said with an eye roll.
“Oh, they’re definitely messy,” Zoro said. He laughed when Nami punched his arm, deeming him disgusting and threatening to absolve their siblinghood. “Come on,” he said, directing his attention to Sanji. “Let’s go mingle some more.”
“You get him for the rest of your lives, let us have some time with him!” Nami protested.
“You were about to kill him,” Yonji said.
Nami smiled sweetly. “And my wedding gift is not doing the same to you.”
“It has been received with gratitude.” Yonji bowed slightly. “Thank you for your contribution.”
“Keep acting like that and I’m taking it back.”
“You two have fun by—e!” Zoro steered Sanji back toward the house, his hands squeezing his hips as they went, causing Sanji to shiver slightly. When they were still a ways away from everyone, Zoro nibbled on Sanji’s earlobe, before pressing his lips to his ear and lowering his voice. “Gonna fuck you so good tonight,” he whispered, laughing as Sanji attempted to hide his redened face. “I can’t wait, either.”
“Stop! Our parents are here!” Sanji hissed.
Zoro’s arms encircled Sanji’s waist, pulling him closer. “I’m aware.”
Sanji laughed quietly, the sound shifting to a hum as Zoro kissed him properly. They remained like that for the rest of the party; Zoro, draping himself over Sanji, who was happy to lean back into the embrace. They laughed plenty and kissed too much, equally excited to be celebrating something that meant so much to both of them. And when they’d said their last goodbyes and retired for the evening, Zoro was certain to make good on his promise.
All in all, it truly was the best night of Sanji’s life.

Sanji has dealt with his fair share of tears especially before he had gotten taken in by Zeff, a past which he tended not to bring up. His childhood wasn’t the best until the man who he sees as a father now ended up adopting him. A painful one which he wanted nothing less, but to forget even if it would be difficult because of how long he was underneath Judge’s roof. There was only one person from his family who had his trust, his older sister Reiju. A past that Zoro was aware of, he didn’t want to hide anything from him which was the reason why the truth had been spoken.. One that caused those tears besides the nightmares which tended to bring those difficult memories forward. This situation was new for the both of them while he never expected it to happen involving Uta and how quickly those rumors started to circulate. Rumors that could easily ruin everything which it could be difficult to escape from those fans and the media because of the lives they decided to live. It was the reason why he was here, he didn’t want Uta to be alone. He didn’t want her to think that she had to deal with this without her friends including him.
“I don’t mind sleeping on the couch, not the first time.” Sanji was her for the sake of his friend, he was worried about her especially after finding it difficult to get ahold of her. He was here to talk and reassure as long as she needed it. Shaking his head, the singer moved to sit down “This isn’t your fault, Uta. Please don’t blame yourself, okay?” It was the media who had gotten themselves into this mess, it was the one who decided to cause the mess because of the pictures that were taken. It would be something that they would figure out together once Uta was able to sort through the thoughts that were running through her head. Their fans and the rumors would wait. They were just trying to enjoy their day off without having to worry about any nosy people and cameras which could quite easily be thrown into their faces. Broken cameras and noses could have happened especially if Zoro was with him, his boyfriend was protective of him though.
Tumblr media
The pictures caused everything to go out of context quite quickly that caused the chaos to make an appearance. It was just supposed to be a fun day for them, the pictures and the stories wouldn’t reveal the truth with them obviously itching for those details their fans were determined to get their hands on. Their agents and his father most likely were discussing the best methods to take to deal with this situation, it was the reason why they were there. Their agents were there for the sake of helping them and to deal with any troubling situations. He wanted to be here for the sake of supporting his friend while there would be concern from Zoro because of his protective side. Hopefully, they both could hold Luffy back from doing anything stupid if he would listen. A gentle smile graced his lips moving to rest his fingers against the top of her head hoping to give some time of comfort “Then how about this? You come and stay with us while we figure everything out. I can make us a good breakfast tomorrow.”

Okay, I watched the live-action One Piece.
I actually don't hate it.
(Mostly.)
the things they did wrong
The fishmen. The makeup is really, really horrible. They went for "realistic"-looking skin and it just does. not. work. And the prosthetics are just bad. Really, really bad. Arlong isn't big enough. He keeps threatening to bite people but his mouth is so small relative to the rest of his face (especially because of said prosthetics) so you can't really take it seriously. It's just bad, y'all.
The den den mushi. Sooooooooooo creepy. The texture is awful and they need better puppetry.
The emotional moments don't quite hit it like the original story does. Each of my absolute favourite moments from the original have been changed juuuuuuuust enough to not give quite the same punch.
Luffy doesn't feel like Luffy. There's a very specific sort of whimsy that Luffy exudes and this guy just doesn't have it. To be fair! it is a very difficult thing to pull off! But it's also, like ... really integral to the whole story. He's got the wrong kind of smile and we never hear him giggle. He should be 100% guileless and he's just not quite there. Nami doesn't feel like Nami. She's not expressive enough, or bossy enough. She keeps trying to be the holding-everything-in-stoically type and that's just not Nami. She holds back as far as information goes, especially in the beginning, but her feelings are pretty much on her sleeve otherwise. Zoro's personality is off just a bit. He's just a bit too grumpy. We see him smile like twice. We never see him get really excited, and the one time he gets moderately excited he's still pretty stone-faced about it. Also, not letting him get genuinely happy about booze makes him come off less as really enjoying one vice and more just being a sad alcoholic. And he doesn't fully commit to the crew soon enough. He's the type to be all or nothing, so he needs to be all in from the get-go. Sanji can't do a French accent, which is kind of hilarious because he just sort of goes for An Accent and so he'll start a sentence with something that's, like, vaguely British? but then if the sentence is long enough he'll find Vaguely French halfway through.
Everyone is too old. Kaya is supposed to be 18 but that actress is in her 30s for sure. Even the kids are kids that are too old for the parts they need to play.
Except for Mihawk, who's a bit too young. Also his fake beard doesn't look great.
Some of the effects for things like Luffy stretching and Buggy coming apart. Again, tbf, this was always something that would be a problem in a live-action recreation, so it's only a minor annoyance. But there's definitely a couple of little things they could have changed that would have made a big difference in believability.
A lot of the crowd shots have a case of Main Character Syndrome. This actually helps the audience pick out important people at Gold Roger's execution, but it's kind of funny when you see Zoro among his classmates at the dojo or Nami and Nojiko with the rest of Coco Village and are like "HMMM I WONDER WHO THE MAIN CHARACTER COULD BE."
Trying a bit too hard to interconnect everything. They keep both Buggy and Arlong relevant for too long (Buggy by keeping him after his arc, Arlong by having him show up early). Garp being around for the whole show is sort of interesting and funny but it makes me wonder if they're even planning on getting to Water 7, and how they're gonna do that if they do.
the things they did right
Verbally acknowledging Zoro as the first mate. The original never dies that even though he totally is.
The wanted posters. They did a great job of recreating the posters, and the little effects they do overlaying them when they introduce new characters is fun.
Pretty much everyone's physicality. Especially Zoro and Sanji. They're very accurate to the original. Just the way Zoro stands and walks is 100% Zoro. Captain Kuro managed to be cool and creepy instead of looking stupid. Usopp's face is surprisingly spot-on.
On a related note, the fight scenes were well-choreographed. And there were a few cool shots where the camera followed someone who was jumping around.
Anything that can be a practical effect is a practical effect. It doesn't always pay off *cough* fishmen and den den mushi *cough* but it usually does, and I very much appreciate the effort.
Each arc is one episode long. 'Nuff said. Y'all know how long these damn arcs can stretch.
The Vibes. They did a really, really good job of making it ridiculous without making it ridiculous, if you know what I mean. A lot of that is thanks to the abundance of practical effects. A lot more is the lighting. They also had fun with camera angles and focus/blur to just keep things feeling not-quite-real in a way that helps rather than hinders the suspension of disbelief. They also made the show overall darker than the original, which I usually hate but in this case it really works: You can't take things like the Chop Chop Fruit or Zoro's penchant for cutting people up out of a cartoon and into a live-action without it automatically getting creepier, so leaning in to that was absolutely the right choice. It also kind of made Buggy's arc feel more real and high-stakes.
All the little details. There were a lot of them. All the characters are at least vaguely the correct nationality from Oda's Q&A tidbits. When Zoro is laid up, Nami reads him Liar Norland. You can see Mihawk's ship in the bay outside of Roger's execution. At one point you can hear "Binks' Sake" playing in the background. Just about every single costume was accurate to the original, and the sets were incredibly detailed. There are so many little details in every single bit of it that tell you that the people who made this were paying attention, and frankly that alone makes me far more inclined to forgive any mistakes I feel they've made.

Argo city exchange: only 3 days left to register!
A big thank you to @cuaviaaceves1 who illustrated @red-cape-morgana story to promote the event!
For those who would like to participate, you have 3 days to fill in this form 🙂 And if you have questions, please, don’t hesitate to drop by in the inbox.
For science!
“Wait, didn’t he say on the left after the outdoor games aisle?” Kara asked, looking alternatively between the store map and Lena, as if somehow the brunette would give her the right answer.
“I don’t know Kara. You’re the one who insisted on going to the biggest toyshop of the city while we could have ordered online and had it delivered to our doorstep” Lena answered coldly, clearly not pleased to start her first free weekend in a long time lost in a store. All because they need to find a present for Kara’s coworker's baby shower. Lena isn’t even sure she has told her hello even once for god sake!
Kara at least had the decency to look sheepish at the remark.
“I know it’s not really the ideal beginning for our ‘Netflix and Chill’ weekend but Alex said that I absolutely need to bring something for the baby. Although it’s a really strange tradition to shower a baby with presents. I mean, humans are fragile, especially the little ones” Kara explained.
“Wait, what?” Lena asked, seemingly alarmed by what her girlfriend had just said.
“And how do you proceed anyway? The baby isn’t even born yet!” Kara rambled on.
“Okay Kara, stop! No one is going to actually drop presents on the baby. Or it’s mother for that matter.” Lane explained while pinching the bridge of her nose, clearly in disbelief. “It’s simply a new tradition people have created to get free stuff for their babies. And to brag. You’ve never heard the expression ‘showering someone in presents’ or ‘showering someone with love’?”
Kara was looking at their cart with her brows drawn in confusion, clearly trying to remember an instance where she would have heard that.
“I thought.. I thought it simply was a tradition.” She finally explained, shuffling from one foot to another. “Earth’s traditions are so different from Krypton’s, and no one seemed worried about that, so I just assumed it was something everyone does here. But now that you put it that way, it does seems a bit stupid, even to me.”
Kara seemed deflated after her explanation. She had stopped their shopping cart in the middle of the stuffed animals aisle, and looked anywhere but at the brunette.
Sometimes, we forget she is from an entirely different world , Lena realized.
Of course no one at CatCo had seemed surprised, because everyone knew it was simply an expression. But, even with her knowledge of English and Earth customs, Kara could still get confused in situations such as this one: she had not dared to ask to not stick out of the crowd or seem stupid, but this meant she had agreed to something she had not fully grasped.
Lena stepped next to her girlfriend and gently took her hand in her own before giving it a light squeeze.
“Darling, it’s fine. We all get confused by those weird idioms. It was a really cute and funny way to picture it.” Lena wouldn’t let Kara imagine she thought any less of her because she got confused by a custom she had no way to guess.
“Why don’t you go look for a retailer so they can tell us where to find all the baby toys? I’ll wait for you here, so you can find me easily.”
It took a few seconds for Kara to relax and finally look at Lena. When she did, a small smile was etching on her lips and Lena could see gratitude in her eyes.
Lena would never judge her for being an alien. She loved her exactly as she is, like she always had.
“I’ll always find you” she said before pecking Lena’s cheek.
“Go be a hero and save us from this maze of toys” Lena teased her, “go be my Supergirl."
Kara left, almost skidding away like a little girl.
National City hero, fighting her way through a poorly designed toyshop. Could be a good front page for the next magazine, Lena mused to herself while waiting for the blonde to come back.
After about 5 minutes waiting for the blonde to come back, Lena got bored. Sure, she could have looked at her smartphone but she knew it would lead her to look at her emails, and this would mean the end of their ‘Netflix & chill’ weekend. Even if there was no Netflix on sight so far.
Lena took in her surroundings more closely.
They had stopped in the stuffed animals aisle, but what caught her attention more specifically was the variety of teddy bears. Lena had never thought there could be so many versions of a simple bear . Some looked classic, while others wore tiny clothes, one was even dressed up as Zoro.
But the one that really caught her eyes was the one shaped like a cushion. Or a potato, she couldn’t really say. It looked a bit ridiculous to be honest.
She reached out to test it’s softness, having nothing better to do while Kara was gone, but the plushy fell from the shelf. Lena leaned down to pick up, dusting it out of reflex, before looking closely at it.
It’s little mouth is shaped in a small smile , she noticed, amused. It’s also made of incredibly squishy foam!
Lena looked around her, checking she was still alone in the aisle. There couldn’t be any witness for what she was about to do. Satisfied to see that no one was around, Lena turned back to the bear and hugged it. She held it close against her chest, like she had held her teddy bear when she had discovered the Luthor mansion and family. She even pressed her face against the toy, enjoy the softness of the fake fur.
“To say people picture you as the big bad CEO. If only they could see you hugging this plushy!”
Lena whirled around, almost dropping the stuffed toy. Kara was back, leaning against a shelf and looking at her girlfriend with a mix of fondness and smugness plastered on her face.
“It- It’s not what you think!” Lena stammered out in embarrassment.
Kara quirked an eyebrow, clearly challenging Lena to come up with a different explanation than what she had just witnessed.
“It was for science Kara!”

purple, if you don’t mind could I please request an emergency request. I’ve had nasty gender dysphoria lately and today was just an especially bad day :( I just have trouble believing I’m valid at all because I have trouble presenting masculine. a toxic ex friend kinda messed up my views on myself and what’s “valid or not”. could I maybe get some comfort from my dears ace and zoro with a trans male reader. thank you so much I love you sm 💕💕
You are very valid, my love! We talked in dms, but still, always remember, it's okay to like usual "feminine" things, it doesn't make you any less male! You are a man, and if someone disagrees with that, that's on them! I love you too, so very much!!💖💖

Despite his polite nature, he can be a fiery devil when needed! Especially when it comes to you and how others treat you!
He also befriended Yamato who sometimes gets misgendered, so it’s even more imperative to him that others understand how this can affect people.
The one to educate them, honestly thinks that maybe they don’t know any better, if they argue with them, he will politely tell them they are wrong.
If all else fails, will walk away. He doesn’t see the point in arguing with someone who can’t even understand someone’s gender.
A confused look was sketched across his face as he and the person in question stared at one another. “He’s a guy, but I get that it could be by mistake, please be more careful next time.”
The other just stared in shock, not expecting such a polite request, others began to watch you all, whispers about the person being so rude. Knowing that the only way to get out of this was to agree and move on, the person nodded their head and apologized.
Patting the person on the shoulder, he smiled brightly as the two of you headed off. “Don’t worry about it, accidents happen, right Y/N?” Nodding in agreement, you smiled awkwardly at the person, who bowed their head once more. Sometimes all it took was a friendly reminder to show a person how big of an asshole they can be.

Would glare daggers at anyone who dared to “correct” you when you use male terms. If they want to fight, he will be the one they are fighting.
Corrects them if they continue to use the incorrect pronouns, more lenient on people who didn’t know or forgot, but will stare down a person if they do it on purpose.
Not the best at comfort in general, but he does try! Will listen to your vents and reassures you that you are validated. You are you, and that should be the only thing that matters.
Will literally fight for you if anyone tries anything, if words don’t work maybe a sword will.
“What was that?” He stared down the person who had misgendered you, a bored look on his face that was coming closer to a snarl by the second. The individual repeated what they had said, not even realizing the sword that had been unsheathed and at their neck. Giving the a look that showed he wasn’t going to give them a second chance, he asked once more.
“I said, what did you say?”
The person only shook their head, giving him the answer he wanted. Letting them go as they ran off, he walked over to you, yawning. “Well are you done yet, I need to nap.”
You couldn’t help but smile at your lover’s way of protecting you, shaking your head, the two of you headed back to the ship, hand in hand.

Missing You
Quick summary: Sanji misses Zoro.
Note: I haven’t outright stated it before, but my collection of short Zosan oneshots is connected to my fic “To Run.” This one makes a few references to it.
-
Sanji woke up to the feeling of Zoro’s lips on the corner of his mouth. His eyes flitted open and his lips curved upward in a groggy smile as he took in the sight of Zoro, partially hovering over him in bed, smiling down at him. Sanji made an amused sound in the back of his throat, laying a hand on his love’s bicep.
“Hi,” Sanji said, his voice still thick with sleep. Sanji wound his arms around Zoro’s solid, warm torso, and pulled him down so Zoro lay on top of him. He chuckled softly as they both repositioned themselves to be more comfortable. “Morning breath,” Sanji whispered, putting his palm in Zoro’s face and pushing him back when Zoro leaned in for yet another kiss.
Sanji let out a small, undignified yelp in surprise when Zoro’s tongued darted out of his mouth and pushed between the gaps between Sanji’s fingers, poking out at Sanji in defiance. Zoro’s grin grew as Sanji withdrew his hand from his face.
“Child,” Sanji said accusingly.
“You had to know getting licked was a possibility when you put your hand there,” Zoro, incorrigible as ever, shot back.
“Actually, I thought you might just bite me like the savage you are,” Sanji said, staring up at Zoro with partially closed eyes.
“And that wouldn’t have bothered you?”
“No, because I was expecting it.”
Zoro snorted, rolling his eyes. “Dumbass,” he said, the playfulness in his voice turning the old insult into a term of endearment.
“Barbarian,” Sanji said in return, grinning to himself when Zoro laid his head on his chest.
“You love me,” Zoro said, more to annoy Sanji than to state the obvious.
“You’re so sure of that,” Sanji said, his voice glib, his fingers soft as he ran them along the path of Zoro’s spine all the way to his head, pushing through the soft green hair.
Contentment rumbled from deep within Zoro’s throat as Sanji played with his hair. “Yeah,” he said dreamily. “I am.”
Sanji lifted his head to kiss the top of Zoro’s. If only those who called Zoro the Demon of East Blue could see him now. They’d change their minds quickly if they could see him practically purring like a common house cat at having his hair stroked.
They lay there together, Sanji petting Zoro until his hand grew tired, Zoro lying on Sanji like a living, breathing blanket. Usually Zoro preferred to have Sanji lying on top of him, but Zoro had become somewhat clingier as of late, coming to Sanji for physical affection more frequently than he normally did whenever they had time alone together.
It had been a bit of an adjustment for both of them when Sanji brought Zoro onto the Baratie. Back when they sailed on Sunny, Zoro could come to Sanji when he was preparing food for the next meal. He would hold onto him like the clingy, affectionate pest that he was. Zoro was less clingy whenever he had Sanji’s full attention, but he’d been receiving less of it lately.
It had been easier to give Zoro his attention back when all Sanji had to worry about was keeping a small crew fed and didn’t have a restaurant and its guests to look after, a staff working under him, or the constant pressure to prove himself worthy as Zeff’s successor. It was even harder to give Zoro his attention when he couldn’t let him hang onto him while he was cooking like he used to. Sanji was sorry that he couldn’t give Zoro that anymore. While he used to tease Zoro for being needy or accuse him of being annoying when Zoro grumbled at him for needing to move around the kitchen while they stood like this, Sanji did enjoy it. It was a nice compromise that kept Zoro happy, and Sanji did enjoy the company and the fact that Zoro wanted to be close to him. But Sanji was a boss now, and it was hard to be taken seriously when he had a grown man hanging off him.
So Zoro found a new way to get Sanji’s attention. He’d observe restaurant activity until there was a lull, and then he’d waltz into the kitchen, grab Sanji by the wrist, and announce, “Break time!”
The other chefs were always overjoyed to see Zoro. Sanji was aware he wasn’t an easy boss, especially if the day was stressful, and Zoro pulling him into the office to kiss him always left him in a better mood. The staff had noticed this, and so they welcomed Zoro in the kitchen, showing their appreciation with booze and a snack whenever he and Sanji came out of the office.
“You’re spoiling him,” Sanji would always chide the chefs, although secretly he was grateful that Zoro and the chefs were on good terms.
But maybe Zoro was growing restless with the way things were on Baratie. Sanji had less days off than he did back when they were part of a pirate crew. There were no more islands to explore, less opportunities for them to have a day all to themselves. So Zoro found more reasons to initiate physical contact with Sanji. He pulled him onto his lap when they sat down together. He grabbed him in his sleep and was always hesitant to let go upon waking. He’d touch him in some small way throughout the day whenever he saw him.
And then came the suggestions. It first started with simply telling Sanji what he should do regarding his work schedule.
“You work too hard, Cook,” Zoro would say. “You should ease up a little.”
“That’s what happens when you run a restaurant, Marimo,” Sanji would retort.
“You should go on vacation,” Zoro said one day, leaning against the wall and staring out the window. His arms were crossed and his stance was relaxed. He spoke as if this had just occurred to him, though Sanji was now starting to suspect it had been on his mind for longer than he’d let on. “Take a break from restaurant life. We can go visit the rest of the crew. Or just go wherever. Doesn’t have to be super far.”
“I don’t have time for a vacation,” Sanji said dismissively. He placed a cigarette between his teeth as he lit up.
“Why not?” Zoro asked, looking at Sanji.
“Who’s gonna run this place with me gone?” Sanji replied.
Zoro blinked. “Zeff. It was his restaurant, originally.”
“Zeff’s worked hard enough for three lifetimes,” Sanji said, waving the idea away with his hand.
“Okay,” Zoro said tensely, sounding as if he was forcing himself to be patient. “Couldn’t your cooks manage without you for a little bit? Some of them’ve been here as long as you.”
Sanji abruptly stopped in the middle of a drag of his cigarette, holding the smoke in his lungs as he tried and failed to imagine those idiots getting on without him. It was why he still hadn’t gotten around to appointing a sous chef.
He cringed, exhaling sharply through his teeth. “No,” he said firmly.
“You’re just making excuses now, Cook,” Zoro said, his brows pulling down in a scowl.
“What do you want from me, Zoro?” Sanji snapped. “I told you I can’t go on vacation! Can we talk about literally anything else? I don’t have much time left on my break and I’d rather spend it doing something else other than getting pestered by you!”
Zoro grew silent, his scowl easing somewhat, but not going away completely. “You know what?” Zoro said, pushing himself off the wall. He walked past Sanji, his boots treading heavily across the floorboards. “Forget it.”
And Sanji had, at least until now. And he thought Zoro had, too, since he hadn’t brought it up again, though he’d kept his distance during the next few days, leaving Sanji to himself until they retired to their bedroom. Sanji hadn’t said anything, preferring to leave it alone, and now, with Zoro lying on top of him, he felt guilt gnawing away at his heart.
-
“Hey,” Sanji said some time later.
Zoro took time to answer, his breath coming out in a short puff against Sanji’s bare skin. “Yeah?” he said groggily.
“Did you fall back asleep?” Sanji asked.
Zoro groaned, rolling off Sanji and onto his back. He stared up at the ceiling. Sanji rolled onto his side and laid his elbow on the pillow, propping himself up and cradling his head in his hand while he awaited Zoro’s response. “I think I did,” Zoro said.
Sanji smiled. He stared at Zoro, struck by a moment of clarity as the realization that this life, going to sleep with Zoro and waking up next to him each morning, was actually his. Zoro looked at him and caught him staring. He smirked. “Enjoying the view, Curly?”
“Maybe,” Sanji drawled. “You are pretty easy on the eyes, Marimo. Bedhead notwithstanding.”
Zoro rolled his eye at Sanji as he held open his arm invitingly. “Well, what are you waiting for?” he asked when Sanji didn’t move closer. “Come here already.”
Sanji obliged, laying his head on the junction between Zoro’s shoulder and his chest. Inhaling slowly, Sanji loosely wrapped his arm along Zoro’s stomach, enjoying the quiet stillness of their bedroom on this day off work. Idly rubbing his leg against Zoro’s, Sanji reflected over his decision to close the restaurant one day a week when Zoro had asked him about it. Not only did the rest of the men enjoy the free time, but it gave Sanji and Zoro peace and quiet all to themselves. It may have upset some of their clientele, and Zeff had given him some grief over it, but if it made Zoro happy, then Sanji would gladly deal with a few complaints.
Zoro had his arm around Sanji, rubbing the pad of his thumb against his shoulder. Several minutes passed before Zoro spoke again, and the hesitance in his voice made Sanji pay close attention. “Cook...”
“Yeah?”
“There’s something I’ve been wanting to ask you.”
“What is it?”
“What would you say if I told you that Luffy wants to take me with him, Usopp, and Nami on a trip?”
Sanji blinked. They’d spent days, even weeks, apart back when they were searching for the One Piece, including those two years the whole crew had spent apart. In theory, Sanji had no reason to hesitate before answering. But it had been a year since he’d taken Zoro onto the Baratie with him, and they hadn’t spent a night apart since. Sanji had become accustomed to starting and ending his days with Zoro by his side. He found the idea of something disrupting his routine to be daunting.
But he did not voice these thoughts. Instead he said, “How long were you thinking?”
“A few weeks,” Zoro responded. Sanji swallowed. “Maybe a month?”
“Why so long?” Sanji asked.
Sanji felt Zoro shrug. “You can ask Luffy that,” he said. “Something about visiting a few islands before heading back.”
“I see,” Sanji said quietly.
“You didn’t tell me what you think,” Zoro said, his thumb coming to a stop.
Sanji closed his eyes, his thoughts turning to how quiet Zoro had become when Sanji had shot down the idea of the two of them going on a trip together. It wouldn’t kill him to allow Zoro to have some fun with their friends. “I think,” he said, “that I’m going to have to prepare your and the others’ favorite meals before you go.”
-
“All right!” Nami said brightly, looking Zoro up and down. “Got everything you need, Zoro? We’re not turning back once we leave.”
“I made sure he does, Nami-san,” Sanji spoke for Zoro, winking at Nami.
Nami smiled at Sanji, nodding at him. “I know you did, Sanji-kun,” she said, demonstrating her faith in him by turning her attention to the map in her hands as she and the others made the final preparations before they boarded Sunny with Zoro.
Watching her go over the map of the islands she and the others intended on visiting, Sanji felt himself longing for the simplicity of the life he’d shared with his crew. He felt his heart filling up with nostalgia for the days when he and his friends could explore strange islands together, days when they could gather around the same table together and share stories and food. They still occasionally saw each other, but when their crew was scattered around the world, it was difficult to get everyone together at the same time.
Taking a drag from his cigarette, Sanji looked at four of the most important people in his life, and he felt the pull of adventure tugging on his heartstrings.
But he could feel the weight of Baratie and its responsibility all around him.
So Sanji exhaled smoke from his lungs and walked up to Zoro, who had Luffy wrapped around his torso. He held his cigarette between two fingers with one hand and he grabbed Zoro’s face with the other. He pulled him in for a long goodbye kiss, Luffy’s voice in his ear as his former captain tried to convince him to come with them.
-
It was quiet as Sanji got ready for bed. It was often quiet when he and Zoro got ready for bed together, as Zoro was not a loquacious person to begin with, and both had long ago learned to share an easy silence with each other, but this was an empty quiet that Sanji was now unused to.
Sanji stared at his reflection in the mirror as he brushed his teeth, his eyes blank and his jaw stiff, his movements mechanical. He looked at the unoccupied space next to him in the mirror, the beginning of a story about an entitled customer waiting to spring forward from his mouth. If Zoro were with him, Sanji would have pulled his toothbrush out of his mouth and, mouth full of foam, started telling him about his encounter with a customer that had insisted on being served a meal that currently wasn’t on the menu. And Zoro would have listened until Sanji popped his brush back into his mouth to finish brushing his teeth. Zoro, in that straight to the point way of his, would have asked him, “So did you kick his ass?”
Air escaped Sanji’s nose in a small burst of amusement at the thought. He pointed his eyes down toward the sink and spat out the toothpaste, wondering if Zoro was keeping up with the nighttime routine they’d established, and therefore brushing his teeth at the same time as Sanji. Rinsing out his mouth, Sanji could feel the weeks without Zoro stretching out before him, opening a chasm between the two of them.
-
Sanji had intended on waiting at least a week before picking up the Transponder Snail to call Zoro. He wanted to give Zoro time to himself with their friends, but also wanted to prove to himself that he wasn’t so needy that he couldn’t last a week without hearing Zoro’s voice. After all, Sanji thought as he chopped carrots for the stew he was working on, he’d gone longer without talking to Zoro. Surely Sanji wasn’t that needy, that clingy. Surely he had enough going on with the restaurant to keep him preoccupied. Maybe Zoro would end up calling him first.
But Sanji felt his restlessness steadily rising within him as the days passed. Work was as hectic and demanding as ever, and one of Sanji’s primary releases—taking a break in his office with Zoro—was gone, leaving Sanji trembling with an undercurrent of frustration and pent up aggression throughout the day. He’d tried channeling it into work, tried dealing with it on his own in his and Zoro’s room, and he tried calming his nerves by chain smoking like there was a secret prize at the end of each cigarette, all to no avail.
It was when he tried picking a fight with Carne and Patty that he finally gave in.
Sanji, at the end of his patience, goaded the longtime staff members into a fight that they could not possibly win. Carne and Patty, to their credit, fought back as valiantly as they could, but they were no match for Sanji. They knew this. Sanji knew. Zeff, who’d been watching from a corner, knew this.
Zeff had given Sanji one look and jutted his chin toward his former office, silently insisting that they talk. And suddenly Sanji was ten years old again, following Zeff until he came to his senses and took a few quick strides to catch up to Zeff and then move past him on the way to Sanji’s office.
Behind the closed door, Zeff simply told Sanji, “Get your affairs in order, Eggplant. You have no reason to bark at your men like that when they’ve done nothing wrong.”
Sanji had bristled at Zeff and told him to mind his own business, telling him, “Oh, you’re one to talk about lashing out at people when they don’t deserve it!” Privately he knew Zeff was right. However, instead of telling him so, Sanji engaged Zeff in a screaming match until their argument had petered out into little more than red faces and heavy breathing. Zeff had skulked out of the office, remaining silent for the rest of the day. Sanji had come out a short time later, angrily adjusting his tie, daring any one of the chefs in the kitchen to look his way.
Everyone in the kitchen, save Zeff and Sanji, kept their heads down as they worked on their individual tasks, the air thick with tension and their collective unease.
Sanji, walking stiffly back to his station, heard one chef mutter to another, “I miss Zoro.”
Sanji deflated a little at hearing that. Clenching his teeth, Sanji pointedly kept his eyes down as he worked, thinking, I miss Zoro, too.
He called Zoro later that evening.
-
“Cook?”
Sanji smiled at the sound of Zoro’s tinny voice on the other end of the receiver. He’d never heard a more beautiful sound in his life. “Hi, Marimo,” he said, reclining on their bed. “How’s the ‘adventure’ going?”
“Pretty tame,” Zoro said. “I was just thinking about how much more dangerous East Blue seemed back when we were all starting out. Now it feels downright peaceful.”
Sanji chuckled. Zoro’s assessment of the sea they called home brought back memories of how young they’d been when they’d all started sailing together, back when the odd Sea King was their biggest threat. They really had no clue what they were getting into back then. “How’s Luffy?” he asked.
“He’s having a blast,” Zoro said. “I think all he cares about is getting to sail with his friends again.”
The longing to be out on the open sea with his friends again awakened in Sanji, manifesting itself as a weight in his chest. He imagined himself on Sunny again, preparing lunch for them while Luffy and Usopp fished, Zoro napped in the sun or polished his swords, and Nami read in a lounge chair.
“That’s good,” Sanji said. He lay on his side, grasping the receiver in one hand. He comfortably draped his arm along his middle and drew his knees up slightly, imagining Zoro lying in bed behind him and spooning him, rather than talking to him on a Transponder Snail on another ship. “And you? How are you, Zoro? Not missing me too much, are you?”
“Missing you a regular amount,” Zoro said cheekily. The Snail, on its perch on the bedside table next to Sanji, mimicked the relaxed smile Zoro would wear while enjoying Sanji’s company. The only thing better than seeing the Snail replicate his love’s smile would be to see that smile in person.
“So you do miss me,” Sanji teased.
“Course I do,” Zoro said. “You know I do. Why wouldn’t I?”
“I know,” Sanji said. He imagined Zoro wrapping an arm around him, right under Sanji’s own. “It’s just nice to hear you say it.”
“I miss you, Cook,” Zoro said for Sanji’s benefit, and it made Sanji melt.
“I miss you, too,” Sanji said softly, hoping the Snail had picked up his voice.
“And what about you, Cook?” Zoro said. “You wanna tell me what happened today?”
Sanji frowned as he thought back to the fight he’d started with Patty and Carne, then the argument he’d had with Zeff. He shrugged into the open air, wondering if the Snail on Zoro’s end was currently mimicking his movements. “Nothing to report. Everything’s the same as usual around here. The men miss you.”
Zoro laughed. “You’re not being too hard on them without me around to help you...ah...relieve your stress, are you?”
Sanji grimaced, covering his face in shame. “Nope,” he said, his voice slightly strained. He made himself yawn, pretending he’d suddenly been overtaken by exhaustion. “Well, I’m pretty tired. I’ll talk to you later, Zoro.”
“Oh,” Zoro said. “Okay. G’night, Cook.”
“Night, Marimo,” Sanji said. “Love you.”
Sanji ended the call before Zoro could respond.
-
While Sanji slowly adjusted to spending his nights alone, it was in the quiet, stolen moments that he most missed Zoro. Finding a patch of sunlight, perfect for napping; stepping out for a smoke when the lunch rush had finished, picturing himself reaching his hand out and threading his fingers through Zoro’s; stepping into his office for a moment of solitude and picturing Zoro sitting at the window seat, inviting Sanji to sit with him.
Sanji decided to go for walk along Baratie’s deck before turning in for the night. He looked up at the moon and brought his cigarette to his lips, his mind on his and Zoro’s conversation earlier that night.
“When do you think you’ll be coming home?”
“Well, I think Nami’s had enough. Luffy’s begged her to let us visit one last island, and then we can go home. So as soon as we’re done with the next one, we’ll be heading home.”
Sanji inhaled deeply, trying to do the math in his head to figure out how much longer until he got to see Zoro again. Zoro and the others had been sailing for a couple of weeks now, but Sanji figured the trip back would be slightly faster since they wouldn’t be stopping at each island they came across. He only had to wait for just a little longer until he could have Zoro by his side again.
He stared up at the full moon, chuckling at himself for how ridiculous he was being. A month was nothing in the grand scheme of things, really. A month was speck of sand on the beach in the rest of his natural life. Just when had he become so soft? When he’d invited Zoro into his life, he supposed, and all the compromises and changes that entailed.
He let his gaze drift across the sky, taking in the map of constellations as familiar to him as the skin on the back of his hand. Was this how Zoro had felt? This yearning for more, this desire to spend more time with someone inaccessible to him? Sanji hoped that he didn’t make Zoro feel as lonely as he currently felt, hoped that the time they did spend together was better than total solitude, but a picture of what Zoro must have felt was beginning to form in Sanji’s head.
Sanji frowned, gaze falling until it landed on the sea. Remorse seized hold of his heart as he remembered all the small ways Zoro had sought Sanji’s touch in recent months, as if trying to squeeze out every last drop of quality time with Sanji in the fleeting minutes that they had. Just a little of Sanji’s time, that was all that Zoro asked of him. A week, at least, to visit a nearby village and spend some quality time together. Was that really so much to ask for? Sanji no longer thought so.
He thought of leaving the restaurant alone for a week. He could let Zeff watch over things, just like he had for so many years, but Sanji still didn’t like the idea of asking him to take over for him just so he could run away with Zoro for a short time. Running a restaurant was hard work and Zeff had more than earned his rest. So that either left one of the chefs onboard or looking for someone new. Sanji was hard on the men, but he knew any one of them was skilled enough to work as head chef, so long as they put in the work. It was just a matter of finding a man with the right personality.
Sanji would tell Zoro this when he saw him again. The idea of finally relinquishing some of his many responsibilities and letting someone else help out was strange, but Sanji had already alienated Zoro to the point of running off on a month long adventure with their captain. He didn’t want to end up losing him. He’d already lost Zoro once and he wasn’t going to let that happen again.
-
Sanji jumped on Zoro the moment he stepped foot on Baratie’s deck, tightly wrapping his four limbs around him. One hundred men couldn’t remove Sanji from Zoro if they tried.
Zoro took this in stride, supporting Sanji by the thighs. “Hi, Cook,” he managed to say before Sanji started kissing him.
Luffy hooted somewhere behind Zoro, shouting, “Sanji missed Zoro!”
Aware they had an audience, Sanji pulled back, but he grinned at Zoro, whispering, “Guess you should let me down now.”
Zoro laughed softly, his eye crinkling at the corner in a way that made Sanji’s heart melt into a puddle of mush. “I guess so,” he said, setting Sanji down.
Slipping an arm around Zoro, Sanji called to Luffy, Usopp, and Nami, inviting them onto Baratie for a meal to welcome them all back.
-
Pleasantly exhausted, Sanji relaxed into Zoro’s arms. Content smile etched into his face, Sanji breathed in Zoro’s scent, felt the heat of Zoro’s skin against his cheek. All was right with the world. Zoro lay there in bed with him, happy to share this moment with Sanji.
Sanji laid his hand on Zoro’s abdomen, relishing the solid feel of Zoro’s body beneath his touch. “I missed you,” he whispered.
“Missed you, too, Curly.”
“I don’t think you know how much I missed you, though,” Sanji continued.
“I dunno,” Zoro said, “you just gave me a pretty good idea of how much you missed me.”
Sanji paused before responding, frowning. “I’m serious, you know.”
“Mm?”
“Yeah,” Sanji said. “I...had a lot of time to think while you were gone.”
“That so?”
Sanji nodded against Zoro’s chest. “Yeah, it is. And I think... I think you were right.”
“About what?” Zoro asked.
“It wouldn’t kill me to take a vacation.”
Zoro paused at Sanji’s admission. “Yeah?” he said, his voice soft with uncertainty.
Sanji wrapped his arm around Zoro’s torso, gently squeezing. They hadn’t talked about it in so long, but he remembered that nightmarish time when Zoro was convinced that Sanji didn’t value their relationship. It made his heart ache to think that he could potentially make Zoro feel that way again. “Yeah,” he said.
He continued, “I mean, I still don’t want to dump this all on Zeff. But I really gave it some thought, and it wouldn’t hurt me to have someone who can step up for me when I’m not around. Maybe even make the workload a little easier on me. I don’t know, the idea of it is still so new to me. But I want to make you happy. And if that means I need to find someone who can watch over the restaurant while you and I take a small trip together, then I’ll do it.”
Zoro tightened his hold on Sanji, saying nothing. Sanji returned his embrace with the same fervor, smiling against Zoro’s chest.
“It’s really not too much trouble, is it?” Zoro eventually asked.
“It really isn’t,” Sanji responded. He lifted his head off Zoro’s chest so he could properly look at him. “And I’m sorry for making you think that it was.”
“Come here,” Zoro whispered, having nothing else to say.
And Sanji did, closing the gap between their mouths.

How the monster trio plus law feels about their someone constantly comparing themselves to Nami, Robin or any woman who is considered “attractive”
Monster Trio + Law With An Insecure! Fem! S/O
Tumblr media
a/n : oo, my heart— but I mean, Robin is gorgeous though.. SO SORRY for the delay and I truly hope you like this!!
I feel like I already did a request similar to this though.
Summary : how the monster trio and law react to a insecure female significant other.
-
Law
Already knows what you’ve been doing, it’s obvious when he can see you often staring in the mirror or over at Robin and Nami, and then yourself when he was with the straw hats.
He most definitely doesn’t understand the importance of looks, and much less on why you even care if you weren’t like the other women.
Law actually doesn’t appreciate you doing that, because he can tell it’s taking a toll on your mental state and health and obviously, as a doctor, he doesn’t like that.
He would literally be having a scowl on his face when he sees you doing it again and finally confronts you about it.
“Why are you so concerned with appearances? Regardless of another woman’s appearance, I chose you for a reason, did I not? I think you are more than beautiful enough for me. So stop doing that and come here.”
-
Luffy
He’d be pretty oblivious to the fact that you’re doing that, it wasn’t until that Usopp brought it up did he realize.
I mean, he did see you constantly lingering your eyes on Robin and Nami, even Hancock and the other women that you’ve come across on your adventures, but he mostly just thought it was because they were also girls and you know, it was a girl thing.
When Usopp tells him, his brows are just furrowed and he’s confused. Did it really matter if you weren’t like them? He thought you were attractive already! Why didn’t you feel the same about yourself?
He likes you, he likes your face, your smile, your body because it’s nice to cuddle, everything. That’s why he’s dating you after all.
So Luffy confronts you, to make you listen.
“I don’t care what other women look like. They don’t look like you. I think you’re attractive. You look perfect to me! Like.. tasty meat! So stop comparing yourself to Nami or Robin or anyone else! I love only you, for everything you are!”
-
Sanji
Sanji isn’t blind, so he also have noticed you’ve been more quiet and often keeping to yourself lately. He can see you constantly glancing around at the many women through islands the crew visited.
It didn’t take a genius to see what you were doing or what you felt, and it breaks his heart a bit. Don’t get him wrong, the other women are very beautiful and attractive to him too, but he would die for you. He chose you out of many women for a reason.
He’d try to subtly make you realize your beauty by complimenting you more often. He’d make all your favorite snacks to cheer you up and help you realize that you are very beautiful and attractive as well.
When Sanji sees that you’re still feeling pretty insecure, he finally decides to talk with you about it.
“My dear, I think you are absolutely stunning already. Please don’t compare yourself to another woman again. I only have eyes for you, the person I get to wake up to and treat like a Queen everyday of my life, it’s a dream. I truly believe you are gorgeous, like a goddess. So love yourself and don’t look at other women in envy, alright, my love?”
-
Zoro
This man is observant but he can definitely be clueless. However, when it comes to you, he knows damn well what you’re doing, especially when your eyes are traveling back and forth to yourself and the women the crew comes across. It doesn’t help with how quiet you’re being which is unusual enough.
Honestly, it kind of annoys him. Why do you have to do that? He wasn’t one to focus on appearances so he didn’t understand why you even cared so much. Plus, he really hates when you’re insecure because it makes him sad :<
Zoro will literally but subtly try to keep you away from the women, just so you’d focus on yourself and not think about the differences from you and the girls. He’d distract you from your negative thoughts by making you cuddle and sleep with him or maybe train alongside him.
Eventually, when he knows you’re still doing it and feeling bad about yourself, he makes you realize and face the truth so you stop.
“Would you stop that? I can see you keep staring at the others. Look, I like you already, I confessed to you and no one else. You’re mine and I love you just the way you are. Quit comparing yourself to other women we see. I get to see your beautiful face everyday, why would I want anything else? Maybe I should buy you a small mirror so you can keep looking at yourself to know you’re pretty.”

A/N : again, apologies for the long wait! Hope you like this! :) this doesnt seem great. :(
Also, I didn’t realize their dialogue got longer each person lol—

The Voyage So Far: East Blue (Part One)
east blue (1 | 2) || alabasta (1 | 2) || skypiea || water 7 || enies lobby  || thriller bark || paramount war (1 | 2) || fishman island || punk hazard || dressrosa (1 | 2) || whole cake island || wano (1 | 2)
so!! hey folks. as i’ve mentioned before, to mark the upcoming chapter 1000 (holy shit!!) as well as my blog’s first anniversary this december, i decided it would be a good time to go back and put together some highlight reel posts of my favorite panels/moments/scenes from each saga and some commentary about what i think the best parts of each arc and the series as a whole are and why, as a celebration of just how far one piece has come and how many fantastic moments we've had so far!
this will be quite a series of rather long posts- they’ll all be tagged #the voyage so far, if you’d like to avoid this messy retrospective. i'll be posting one saga a day each day until chapter 1000's official release on january 3rd!
Tumblr media
honestly, i’m opening with this panel because it has a special place in my heart: i’m pretty sure it was the first time that one piece ever made me laugh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the entire prologue does a really good job of setting up the tone for the entire rest of the story. i think i haven’t really written much about it before, but i really love romance dawn. it hits the exact mix of humorous and serious that’s practically one piece’s trademark tone, and introduces us to some of the main themes of the series: inherited will especially, and the theme of freedom, and the idea of betting your life for what you love.
Tumblr media
technically this isn’t the first time we see luffy as an adult- he punches out the sea king before this- but it is his formal introduction, as well as (in the chapter title) the first time he’s referred to as strawhat luffy/mugiwara no luffy.
i really like a lot of these very early panels of luffy, really. i’m a writing person, not an art person, so i can’t really explain why, but there’s something about how he’s drawn that i think is just delightful for some reason. i like the earlier one piece art a whole lot in general, even though it’s often much less intricate and more simple than the current artstyle (which is not by any means bad either!! it’s just different). i think it fits the atmosphere of the start of the story very well- a journey just starting out.
Tumblr media
he’s going to be pirate king!!
Tumblr media
i’ve complained before about how zoro’s backstory doesn’t really hit the way a lot of the others do, mostly because it goes so fast, and kuina’s death is unfortunately the closest the series comes to fridging, but- that said, i do really like the core of it. i really like zoro being motivated by a promise to the one friend and rival he could never beat, and i love how this moment is what he cites later on while facing mihawk: a promise to a friend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i love all the strawhats and their dynamics, and seeing the crew grow and develop and become a family over the course of hundreds of chapters is one of the great joys of one piece, but i think i’ll always have a soft spot for luffy and zoro’s relationship. there’s never really any conflict between them after their very first meeting; there’s loyalty and dedication and understanding there that starts from this moment and never really wavers.
it makes me grin to see the two of them, here at the start of it all. they don’t have a flag or a ship or a destination, yet, but this is the start of the strawhat pirates.
Tumblr media
this series will probably reveal that i have a great weakness for group shots, and i think oda is particularly good at them- especially in these earlier arcs, you can usually see every character’s personality and feelings coming through in how they’re placed and what they’re doing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i had actually forgotten that usopp did this, and while i know kuro was egging him on on purpose, i feel like he doesn’t get enough credit for being a reckless idiot sometimes. there’s a reason he fits in as a strawhat, after all, even if he himself isn’t always aware of it.
Tumblr media
this is a lovely panel just on its own, but i think it (and all the other appearances of sunrise and dawn in the story) hits different now, with all the 'coming dawn’ theming that’s been established in recent arcs.
Tumblr media
oda often absolutely nails his use of negative space to emphasize heavy little moments like this, and i for one absolutely love it. this one in particular gets me in the heart.
i like how you can reread some of these early arcs and see nami’s affection for the crew growing in little moments like these, and it’s very sweet, but there’s also a quiet kind of sadness in knowing she’s spending the whole time knowing she’s going to have to betray and leave them eventually.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i LOVE the new crewmate toasts. they all always look so happy.
also, in my opinion, this is the first time the strawhat pirates feel like a proper crew. they have a SHIP now! and just after this, they get their jolly roger to seal the deal.
Tumblr media
it is my opinion that sanji has one of the best character introductions i’ve ever seen. in just a few chapters we know just about everything we need to know about him: he's not to be fucked with, he has extremely high respect for food and absolutely none for morons, and the first genuine smile we see from him is when he gives a free meal to a starving man.
Tumblr media
i think about this moment a lot, really. luffy knows almost nothing about sanji at this point. he hasn’t tasted his food- he doesn’t even know his name. but he’s seen sanji give free food to gin for no other reason than that he’s hungry and it’s right, and that’s all it takes for luffy to decide that sanji is gonna be his cook.
Tumblr media
baratie is mostly a serious arc (and leads into the even more serious arlong park), but it has some really good funny moments towards the start and this is one of them. you know they’re friends because they all just start roasting luffy without sympathy or hesitation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i’ve mentioned before that the zoro and mihawk fight was one of the big things that hooked me on one piece (the other being sanji’s backstory), but the way it ends, especially, is one of my favorite moments in the whole series. i love,, strawhat loyalty moments. carve “any complaints, pirate king?” on my fucking grave.
Tumblr media
sanji has a lot of really great action panels in this arc, but this is one of my favorites mostly because his combat abilities are being revealed to the audience at the same time they’re revealed to a lot of the characters watching. i can’t remember who pointed it out but sanji’s character design (especially pre-timeskip) just really looks like he’s designed for kicking- shiny black shoes, about 70% leg- and it really shows in panels like this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sanji and zeff’s chronic inability to communicate is kind of the emotional core of baratie, and i think sanji calling the restaurant zeff’s treasure sums up the entire conflict between them very neatly. of course zeff values sanji way more than the restaurant, but zeff will never tell that to his face and sanji has negative zero self-worth so he’s never going to figure it out on his own. so they’re basically in a stalemate.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sanji’s backstory is absolutely brutal. we spend a truly agonizing amount of time literally just watching him slowly starve to death. it’s no secret that oda is really amazing at backstories, but i think sanji’s is probably one of the most effective at driving home exactly where his very specific mindset as an adult comes from. it’s hard to even read this section and not come away with at least a little more appreciation for food.
(to be continued in east blue part two!)

Mystery lady | Aizawa Shouta
Category: fluff, crack?
2.2k words; Eri has another caretaker?
Tumblr media
“All right, we have a surprise visitor today.” Aizawa mumbled underneath his scarf, packing the rest of his paperwork into a pile. “Don’t be annoying and suffocate her.” Heads swivelled as the large door slowly creaked open to reveal the small and adorable guest.
“Eri-chan?” Midoriya shot up from his seat, eyes popping out of his head. Others followed suit, squealing at her cute attire. Aizawa lifted her up and placed her on his desk, patting her head.
“She’s available to stay with us for about an hour, or until her caretaker comes.” Everyone—well, nearly everyone—crowded over Eri, eager to talk to her. The last time they saw her was months ago, after all. Aizawa would only give small slivers of information like “she went to the hospital today” or “she’s fine, stop asking” after the students pestered him. It was only when Iida interrupted, concerned for her personal space, that they stepped back a bit.
“Ah, I have to get some forms from the staff room… Look after her for a moment. You are going to be heroes.” With that, the teacher slid out of the room with his yellow sleeping bag in tow. After he left, all attention was directed to Eri.
“It’s been ages since we last saw you! How are you, is everything okay?”
“How’s it like living with Aizawa-sensei? Is he kind? Is he taking good care of you?” They took turns asking, giving her some snacks. Watching her face light up melted their hearts.
“Yep! He asks me a lot if I’m okay and gives me sweets! He once gave me this really bitter one and laughed when I spat it out. It was a really weird but funny grin.” The class couldn’t really imagine their apathetic teacher giving anyone any other type of a smile. The same one which scared them down to their bones.
Others chimed in with their questions, ranging from “Have you gone to any other places?” to “Have you found any other foods you like?” or “Are you going to school now?” Eri answered all of them with a bright smile.
It made Midoriya almost tear up, how her attitude and personality changed from the moment they saved her from Overhaul’s grasp. He knew his influence over her wasn’t completely gone, but it was steadily disappearing, and nothing brought him greater joy than that.
“Wait, but… where do you go when Aizawa-sensei teaches us? Surely he doesn’t just leave you alone in the faculty’s dorm?” Yaoyorozu spoke up, fingers sifting through Eri’s silver locks. When Eri looked back at her in puzzlement, she replied with “that’s a fancy word for teachers.”
“Oh, [Name] looks after me.” The class looked quizzically at her, heads tilted in curiosity.
“Who?”
“[Name]! She lives with us, and she’s so kind and the best. She always wakes me up with fireflies and it’s so pretty!” Everyone stopped at that.
“...And is she like, our age, or…?”
“No? She’s an adult.”
Sparks flew around in the students’ minds as they tried to connect the dots.
Aizawa-sensei lives in the faculty dorms in the Heights Alliance. Eri-chan lives with him. This mystery person lives with Eri-chan. Therefore, she must be living with our teacher. Aizawa-sensei is living with another adult, a female, no less. What the hell?
They murmured amongst each other, trying to speculate how this was possible. Eri stared in confusion. “Why are you whispering?”
“Eri-chan, when you say ‘lives with us’, did you mean like she moved in when you moved in or she was living with Aizawa-sensei before you came?”
“She moved into the dorms after I came.” The students nodded, saying how it would be unusual for the antisocial teacher to voluntarily live with anyone. Or for anyone to agree to the arrangement. “But she told me she was living with him before he came into the dorms. She complained about it a lot, how she had to travel every day just to see him. She’s happier now!”
This made them stop again. But in an attempt to stop interrogating her about this mysterious lady and focus on Eri herself, Kirishima steered the conversation.
“Uh, so what do you do all day?”
“[Name] is an artist, but she said she was also a teacher. I’m being homeschooled by her, but it’s so fun! And she always makes cakes and candy apples as a well-done reward. Then we take naps, watch TV and then eat dinner when Aizawa-san comes back. We sometimes go to the park and have picnics. She drew me a rabbit to play with on the grass and it came to life. It was so cute!”
Eri’s bubbly and enthusiastic voice made everyone coo at her adorableness. After sitting in countless non-hero lessons, she was like a ray of sunshine which brightened up their day. They didn’t know who this lady was, but she was apparently taking incredibly good care of their “little sister”.
“You must really like her then! She sounds like a lovely person.” Uraraka wiped the smudge of chocolate off Eri’s cheek, pinching it lightly in the process.
“Yep! She’s really lovely and hugs me a lot. Sometimes she calls Aizawa-san over and we cuddle for hours while watching movies!” This was the sentence which absolutely broke everyone’s brain. They stared dumbfoundedly at her confused face until one of them regained their ability to speak. Now that she said that, there was no way they could skip past this person.
“Can you… tell us more about [Name]? Especially about her and Aizawa-sensei?”
“Um, well…”
Tumblr media
“Wow, I am lost. My lack of sense of direction never ceases to amaze me… that’s the third time I’ve walked past the Nurse’s Office. Hm, not worrying at all, I’m perfectly fine.” A breath of fatigue and annoyance slipped out as you made a right, even though that’s what you did last time. “Ah yes, all around me are familiar signs, but no faces. If only the song could come true.”
The empty corridors were being filled with your muttering until you stopped in your tracks. “Wait a second, she’s in 1-A. Which means it would be on the second floor since the first would be the teacher’s lounges and whatnot. I need to go upstairs. Ugh, why didn’t I think this 10 minutes ago?” A pause. “It’s because I don’t use my two withering brain cells.”
Even on the second floor, you found yourself lost. Another 10 minutes would have been wasted trying to gauge your location if it weren’t for the loud squeals and shouts exploding out of a room. That fits the description Shouta gave. Energetic and no regards for the eardrums of anyone nearby, especially ones trying to sleep.
As you came closer, individual voices could be heard.
“Aizawa-sensei did that? I can’t believe it!”
“He doesn’t seem like a romantic type at all. I should believe the sky is collapsing before this.”
“He does it all the time, every single day. Ah, that’s her! [Name]!” Slipping into the classroom and nodding to the students, you carefully embraced the small child and held her up in your arms. The weight of her body on your arms and her arms around your neck immediately calmed your heart rate down.
“Oh thank goodness I found you, I had no idea where I was! I swear I’m worse than Zoro when it comes to finding my way around.”
“Who’s Zoro?”
“Uhm, a fictional character you don’t need to worry about. You’re too young for One Piece.” Eri nodded with a smile and pulled at your sleeve. “Yes, dear?”
“[Name], they’re all Aizawa-san’s students! They’re so nice!”
“Yes, Grumpy told us about them, right? The band of misfits who he loves very much even though he never said it out loud or sometimes says the complete opposite. Remember how he said ‘I would rather drink an entire bottle of balsamic vinegar than go to another class’ yesterday but still woke up at 6? He’s such a tsundere.”
“He doesn’t like it when you call him that.”
“What, Grumpy? No, he loves it, I can tell. I’m psychic.”
“Psychic?”
“I can read what other people think. It’s my Quirk.”
“Isn’t your Quirk Piggy?”
“...I have two quirks? No, that doesn’t make sense. Alright, you got me, I’m lying. And it’s Pygmalion, remember? Piggy is cute but very misleading.”
The students watched the light banter between you and Eri, eyes shifting to whoever was speaking. A lightbulb went off in Sero’s head which stopped the conversation.
“Wait, I’ve seen you around before! You’re in the cafeteria every night!” Your attention changed to the boy, and the gaggle of wide-eyed children, at that.
“Oh, I thought I was sneaky enough. Guess not. Okay, hello everyone! I’m [Surname] [Name], and I’m taking care of Eri along with that grouch you call a teacher in the faculty’s dorms. I’m not a suspicious person, I have all of my credentials and papers. And this little lady has a maths test to start!” Eri squealed and attempted to wriggle out of your arms at that, determined to escape. She slipped off and hid behind Midoriya, sticking her tongue out at you.
“I want to stay here!” You crouched down to her eye level, trying to reason with her. It was hard to say no since she barely asks for anything, and you never wanted to stop her from experiencing the outside world.
“Sweetie, these students must have their classwork to do and we might be disturbing them. And we don’t want to do that, ri—”
“Actually!” Kaminari cut in. “Sorry for interrupting, but we have absolutely no work right now!” Iida attempted to say “Yes we do.” but was smothered into silence by Ashido. “We have all the time in the world to talk to Eri-chan!” Her head spun to yours at that, large puppy-dog eyes fluttering with clasped hands. This was a move you tried to ban in the house because it instantly made you weak.
“Alright then… If we’re not disrupting you guys, then I don’t see the harm. I’ll be sitting here, just to keep an eye out for our little miss. Don’t mind me.” Making yourself comfortable, you whipped out a novel from your bag and started reading. Although, the session lasted for only 2 minutes since the lack of rambunctious noise made you look up to 21 pairs of eyes staring back at you. “Can I… help you?”
“Miss, you live with Eri-chan, right?”
“Yes. Also, just call me [Name]. Yobisute is fine, don’t be so distant!”
“Ah, right. So you live with Aizawa-sensei.”
“Yup! You guys have it hard, having Grumpy for a teacher. Although I shouldn’t be the one saying that, seeing how I’ve been going out with him for the past… 3 years? Wow, time flies.” Screams of “What?” and “He’s dating someone?” filled the room. “Ah, so he didn’t mention me, huh? Typical Grumpy.”
“What do you see in him?” Todoroki’s voice cut through the chatter. Midoriya shrieked and explained to the bichrome boy how that has an offensive meaning. “Oh, I see. Sorry.” You laughed at the boy’s lack of social understanding.
“It’s fine, it’s fine. I do want to get back at him, though. You guys want to hear about all the things he did with me over the years?” 21 heads nodded. “Well then, sit down and storytime will begin.”
Tumblr media
Aizawa was looking at hell. Or at least a perfect replication of it in his homeroom class. You, standing in his spot and recounting everything he’s ever done with you, and his students, looking like they were practically engraving your words into their brains.
“What are you doing?” The children shrieked at his appearance. The fact that they didn’t realise he was there until he spoke up made Aizawa mentally note to increase their schoolwork in perception. It’s vital in Hero work, after all. You, on the other hand, aren’t even phased.
“What’s up, Mr Grinch? You somehow look more tired than this morning, what an accomplishment in uh… 8 hours.” He flicked your forehead for that, ignoring your yelp of pain. “This is a terrible way to treat your girlfriend!”
“And yet you haven’t broken up with me.” His students squealed and whistled at his comment. Acts which stopped as soon as he glared at them. “I’m back now, you said Eri needs to do her maths test.” He picked up the little girl from his desk and placed her on your folded arms, making sure she’s stable before letting go.
“Alright, alright, we’re going. Did you guys have fun?” A chorus of “Yes!” nearly blasted yours and his eardrums off. Eri was saved thanks to Aizawa’s quick reflexes. He clasped his hands over her ears just in time. “Nice! Okay, we have to go now. Bye guys!” Another chorus of “Bye [Name]!” echoed.
Your boyfriend followed you out of the classroom, patting Eri’s head while shooing you off. “I don’t have night patrol today.”
“That’s great! I bought some cake from that bakery around the corner. Brave through the day and come back to me in one piece, okay?” Your lips connected to his but he immediately pulled back at the screams from behind him. Nearly every single student had their face peeking out of the room, eyes glittering. “Oh oops.”
“Shit.”

8. Concession
summary: Deals are struck to appease the sick and appease the worrying. (one piece, slight SanUso)
***
“His temperature is high,” Chopper sighed stepping outside of his office with a frown. He kept his voice low, in case the patient was listening. “Really high... He needs to eat and drink more, but he’s putting up a resistance.”
Chopper rubbed his chin, concern weighing down his brow, “It’s a simple illness, an infection of the throat and sinuses. Strep throat. But his pain response to it... it’s as if he’s never been sick before!”
“Well... Usopp has claimed to have never been sick a day of his life,” Nami sighs, hands on her hips, and her gaze glaring at the door, “But I thought that was another... tall tale of his!”
“Surely he’s been sick before... at least once!” Brook argued, tapping his skeletal fingers to his teeth.
"I gotta admit... I've seen a lot of us sick, but I don't think I've seen Usopp-bro sick," Franky mused. He chuckled suddenly, before adding, "Well, not something he didn't invent anyway..."
“I’m not sure. I’m going to take a look at his blood for antibodies, but based on his fever and his reactions to the pain, I’m not sure if he's had this illness before. I really think it’s his first time experiencing this... which can be a problem. Mild illnesses are worse in adulthood if you’ve never experienced them in your youth!” Chopper sighed.
“Isn’t he just being a bad patient?” Zoro protested, “He’s just whining.”
“A temperature doesn’t lie, idiot,” Sanji snapped, a tray of soup and water in hand, “If Chopper says it’s bad, then it’s bad!”
Zoro glared at the cook, an insult ready on his lips, but Luffy, his usually cheerful tone subdued, interrupted, “Don’t fight. Usopp’s head was hurting from the noise earlier.”
The crew fell quiet, anxiety twisting in their stomachs over Luffy’s obvious concern. Finding out Usopp wasn't feeling his best, had been a bit of a shock.
In the middle of an escape from the Marines, Usopp had burst into tears over the noise of a canon, before collapsing on the ground. It hadn’t been too abnormal a sight, but his tears were normally from being scared... and not from pain. This had obviously been the latter, and the sight of it had shocked the group. Usopp had been gathered up and taken to Chopper's office immediately. More alarming than any complaint he could have made was his muttering that he was fine, despite his obvious fever, and flushed complexion.
“Usopp was hurting a lot,” Luffy mumbled, folding his arms with a frown.
A crew member falling sick was never a happy occasion, but in their years sailing together, Usopp had indeed, never gotten sick. His boasting over his good health had oddly been a comfort for the crew. He was normally the first to check on a downed crewmate, telling them stories, or encouraging them to take medicine. There was many an occasion Luffy's fast recoveries could be credited to Usopp, for tricking his Captain into taking his gross tasting medicine, thanks to some tale he wove.
And if asked to not get to close to the paitent he would laugh, “I never get sick! Never. While, I’ll have you know...” and then he’d launch into a story about how his family was blessed with good health, or that Usopp had sailed on the sea when he was seven, to do some great quest that caused his good health.
It was clockwork. Usopp didn’t get sick. He faked them. He did not succumb to them.
A cough from behind Chopper’s closed door caused the Straw Hats to jump.
Anxious eyes turned to the door, unease settling over them like a blanket.
“Has he eaten anything?” Robin asked, her voice almost a whisper.
“Not yet...” Chopper admitted, “He’s struggling even taking water right now.”
Sanji, straightened his back, his grip on the tray getting surer.
“Well, he won’t turn my food down. Water and a light soup. It’s not too much much, and he’ll find the taste to his liking,” Sanji said with a nod, marching towards the door.
“If he could at least drink all the water... I don’t want to resort to an I.v.,” Chopper half pleaded, a brave smile on his face.
“He’s not going to die from this,” Zoro said, brown furrowed with frustration, “He’s going to be fine!” He seemed grumpier with Usopp laid up.
Franky opened the door for Sanji, and offered a grin of reassurance, “Good luck bro!”
Sanji entered Chopper’s office with firm steps. He flinched a little as the door closed behind him, suddenly finding himself squinting at the dimmed light of the room.
It didn’t take long for his eyes to adjust; Usopp was easy to spot on the bed, his black hair flowing like ink over his pillow. His dark skin was ashen, and his eyes were closed. He was frowning, the pain of his throat most likely the cause.
Sanji hated it when people were sick.
Nami’s brave sick face comes to mind. As does his mother’s. Both thoughts fill him with dread. Smiling while sick... he'd rather no one did that.
He feels cruel to suddenly be grateful Usopp isn’t hiding behind a brave smile.
Sanji sets the tray down on the desk by Usopp’s bedside with an intentional noise. Usopp’s body flinches, as if the noise had hurt him, and he peeks out at Sanji beneath heavy lashes... pouting at Sanji in greeting.
He’s not putting on a brave face, and again Sanji feels selfish to be happy about it.
Moved by relief, and an unexpected surge of compassion, Sanji reaches out to cup Usopp’s face. Usopp is burning up beneath his touch.
“Hey there... You’ve got to eat,” Sanji says, his words slow and awkward. He hadn’t really known what to say, especially now that he's touched him out of the blue.
Usopp makes an expressive frown but remains quiet. His dark eyes are locked onto Sanji, but they are darting over Sanji's face. He doesn't seem to know where to look, or perhaps, even lying down, he is too dizzy to focus on the cook's face.
“Can you sit up for water, at the very least?” Sanji asks thumb stroking Usopp’s cheek. He doesn’t know where the doting has come from, but he doesn’t push it down. They’re alone after all... no one to see what he’s doing.
Usopp nods, his fevered cheek pressing lightly into Sanji’s cool palm. He stays there a moment and then moves to sit up. His arms are trembling. Sanji reaches gently under those shaking arms and helps the sniper sit up, Usopp pressing his forehead heavily against  Sanji’s chest.
His breath is labored from the effort of sitting up.
Is this really just strep throat?
When Usopp’s breath is evened out, Sanji lets him go and reaches for the glass of water. He passes it to Usopp, who takes it obediently; quietly.
That quiet is so disturbing. Usopp is a small ball of chaos, smaller and more predictable than fluffy, but he's loud and exuberant. The quiet doesn't suit him.
“I know Chopper gave you medicine... it hurts now, but you’ll be feeling better soon. Chopper’s the best doctor,” Sanji says, unable to help but try and console the ailing sniper. Forcing a smile, Sanji continues, “So... so drink up! The water will help. It’ll help you feel better soon!”
Usopp’s pout grows deeper, but he sips the water. He jolts, wincing sharply, a hand going to his throat. He looks so surprised at the pain.
Nami had smiled so brightly while sick. His mother had eaten her food obediently.
Sanji has one of Usopp’s hands in his own and clings to it. He’s not sure why he’s so scared now.
“Please drink it all. I know it hurts... but I promise you’ll feel better soon,” Sanji says, smiling as wide as he can.
Usopp frowns, and his eyes sluggishly turn to Sanji’s face. His head tilts slightly, and then, he smiles.
Sanji feels choked up at the sight.
Usopp’s feverish hand is suddenly on Sanji’s cheek, and the sniper whispers, “Sanji... stop. It is going to be alright... Don’t make that face.”
Sanji shakes his head, “I’ll... I’ll worry less if you promise to drink this, and have a few bites of soup.”
Usopp nods, head drooping as if it is weighed down. He grunts very softly in agreement. Closing his eyes, Usopp chugs half the water, before his hand goes to his throat. He coughs, his face twisting up from the pain, and Sanji is reaching forward again.
He feels so helpless.
And then Usopp has his arms around him.
Usopp is hot and sticky with sweat. His hug is too heavy and uncomfortable. He buries his face into Sanji’s throat, and sighs, his hot breath adding to the uncomfortableness.
“Stop... making that...face. I’ll get better. Just stop. I’ll be alright... Don’t look so sad,” Usopp whispers, voice strained and weak, "I'll have you know... I'm the fastest at getting better..." It's a weak story, and one with no elaboration.
His strong hands, no longer small like how Sanji remembers them, curl around the lapels of Sanji’s jacket.
“In exchange... feed me. And listen to me complain. But I’ll... get better. So don’t look like... this,” Usopp’s voice is tired, and he sounds concerned.
Sanji hugs Usopp unsure of what face he is making, or how to stop it, so he tells him so.
"I don't know what I look like."
Usopp rubs his cheek against Sanji's hair and mumbles, "Very scared. I don't like... people looking at me like that... about this."
Usopp is trembling.
Sanji abruptly remembers this isn't even a severe illness, and with a much braver and stronger voice insists, "You're going to be fine. We... I'm looking at you like this... because our sniper can't be down for long. You're going to get better. I just hate seeing you like this."
Usopp sighs, and his trembling calms. Somehow, Sanji has managed to bring Usopp comfort, while also comforting himself.
Sanji’s not even sure why all of this is bothering him so much.
Sanji holds Usopp tight, and thinks only of him. He pushes away Nami’s determined flushed face, and his mother's grateful, relieved smile. Nami is still here. His mother is gone. Usopp will be like the former. He'll get better.
All these things are related, and Sanji’s not sure if he understands how.
Usopp told him once, that his mother died when she was sick.
“Are you afraid?” Sanji asks, arms still tightly wrapped around Usopp. It doesnt matter how uncomfortably hot everything is.
“Not like you,” Usopp whispers, lips brushing Sanji’s throat. “I’ll get better... didn’t I tell you? So no more...” Usopp’s hot hand covers Sanji’s eyes.
“I have to endure it when all of you don’t feel well... so don’t fall apart on me... If I can take it... you can take it too,” Usopp mutters, voice trying to be encouraging, even if the words don’t quite fit.
Sanji remembers all of Usopp’s smiles whenever they fall ill. He’s a good liar. Good at hiding when something is wrong. He too, lost his mother to illness.
Sanji had been worried about Nami when she was sick.
But not like how he had been worried about his mother.
Sanji is worried more for Usopp, over this nonfatal illness. More worried than he ever had been for his mother.
A disconnect in Sanji’s heart, and head--click.
“Ah...” Sanji whispers suddenly understanding something he had been trying not to look at for some time.
He looks down at Usopp in his arms. He’s asleep, his glass empty and bowl of food untouched. Sanji will try again when he wakes up. Usopp promised to get better. And he will. The whole crew, and not just Sanji, will see to it.
Sanji sets Usopp back gently on his pillow, releasing him very carefully.
There’s a lot to think about, but Sanji will deal with that later. Every other thought and feeling is packed away, neatly tucked back inside Sanji for him to deal with at a later time. He’ll go make more soup for Usopp when he wakes up.
Usopp did promise to get better if Sanji stops making whatever face he’s been making. It’s a small price to pay that Sanji will agree to pay while Usopp’s eyes are open.
But if Usopp’s eyes are closed, Sanji decides to worry all he wants, and there’s not a thing the sniper can do about it.

One Piece Chapter 995: Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
And the count drops to 5 After a long week break One Piece is back to continue the back and forth of the Onigashima Raid, looks like Chapter 1000 may still remain in Act 3 which is...concerning, since Act 4 is meant to be the tragedy parts But for now, we see what 995 has to offer Spoilers for Chapter 995 of course, Support the Official Release Too!
It was a bit strange seeing a chapter cover after the whole Bege story ended XD But Luffy with an owl teacher is fun, and the squirrels
We however start on the outskirts, Big Mom vs Marco, and he’s kinda holding his own. It is worth noting that his fire seems to hurt Prometheus and Zeus looks out of commission still
Marco stating that he ‘doesn’t know his role yet’ is a bit of a worrisome flag, bug I do have an idea
BM does pin Marco down the easy way though, just grab him. Seems that Perospero’s alliance was super short lived - alliances and betrayal going hand in hand
But he gloated too much and Wanda and Carrot jump in in their Su Long forms! Peros is lucky he isn’t blinded, I mean he kinda should be, he has enough scars
‘You crazy furry’ - I don’t care if Viz changes that this is the canon line and hilarious!
BM seems to recognize Carrot though, which continues to bode the question: why didn’t she get a bounty for rinsing a line of a Yonko’s fleet? Franky did less in Enies Lobby and got a bounty
Wanda’s Su Long is kinda expected, but it’s good to see that she wants to avenge Pedro too, despite Peros’ objections. Gotta worry a little though, very easy to lose one of them in a 2v1 situation
Big Mom bouncing is strange though, she’s basically ditching her eldest injured son. What she says is interesting too, she doesn’t have any souls to use against Marco, meaning at this current point she’s somewhat weakened in terms of damage output
Carrot and Wanda are letting Marco make chase though, however the Ice Demons is where I expect him to gravitate towards
The Apoo chase is for the most part turning everyone against him, but in that manner also turning Kaido’s lesser forces against him
Tonfa is a unique choice of weapon for Apoo, maybe the extra joints allow more movement with them, but he should not last long against Drake and Zoro both going at him
Zoro vocally noting that he wants to support Kin’emon is telling, Oda is intentionally keeping Zoro away from Kaido
Drake though having no filter ‘I’ve always hated you’ - like cold blooded
Queen though seems to have eyes on Zoro, but he’s gonna be very rudely awakened if he tries it thinking that he’s merely the ‘3rd best fighter’. His musing about Sanji is interesting though, he doesn’t say Germa or the Evil Army, he says ‘Judge’s Son’ - implied familiarity? Oh lord what if Sanji’s uncle is Queen!? Both are blonde scientific geniuses
Brook being immune to Ice Oni does make a lot of sense, it may also become a key factor in getting to Apoo or Queen but he’s basically now a walking infection that he may be able to use, but Chopper is mulling how the virus works
And doesn’t notice that he’s got it too! Strange he didn’t feel it though huh? There is of course now the worry of ‘Healer Down’ but Chopper can change his shape to limit the spread, this also gives him a chance to self-treat an antidote or just allow a Pineapple to heal him with his healing flames
I do have worry about that Number-shaped shadow on the panel where Brook is saying he’s invincible, it’s got its eyes on Chopper
We finally get over to Usopp and Nami vs Ulti and Pay-Pay...though it’s turned out to just be Usopp vs Ulti and Pay-Pay.
Interestingly, Usopp seems able to handle Ulti from range, but with both it is a struggle. Ulti’s heart though
Unfortunately he seems to be on the end of ‘another’ headbutt. An Alabasta-esque Fatality showing Usopp’s skull very much cracked...surprised he has any bones left in his nose
Ulti turns her eyes to a felled Nami, but we’re shown Beast Pirates fleeing from outside, which should’ve really given away that an ally was coming
Nami definitely doesn’t want to die so pulls the bargaining, but Ulti wants her to retract Luffy’s statement about being Pirate King
PANDAMAN SMILE! Just...wow
I’m a little let down by Usopp though, even if it’s lying to stay alive to be okay with Nami saying that Luffy won’t be Pirate King doesn’t sit well, it feels like it contrasts his Alabasta moment as well when he refused to allow Luffy to be insulted
But Nami won’t say it, she says that he will, so it’s nice that Nami gets that moment too
And here to save Nami is Komachiyo rode in by Tama!
Sweet Child it’s cool that you’re here but this battlefield is not safe for you!
So yeah, really good chapter regarding developments, the picture does continue to become clearer. Big Mom is back on the loose, but without Zeus and Prometheus she is weakened. Marco is becoming aware of the Ice Oni - which Brook and Chopper are infected with but only the latter subject to its damage. Queen looks to eliminate Zoro. Carrot and Wanda are to fight Perospero and Tama has come for support right where Usopp and Nami are facing Ulti and Pay-Pay.
It all leads to interesting routes, of course Zoro vs Queen is a big one but I do see Drake jumping in on that, maybe even Hawkins, Apoo, Brook and/or Who’s Who, he isn’t the most popular of All Stars after all. I do still think Marco will save Chopper and the floor from Ice Oni, Chopper will be able to uncover the key part of it before fully turning, but through that Chopper can get that W over the Plague. I worry about Carrot and Wanda vs Perospero, I think Peros may get some help, he has a whole crew at the bottom of the Waterfall loaded as Chekov’s gun, but with the rest of the Minks falling back from the Dome as well it could be Minks vs Big Mom pirates. I worry most for Wanda because she is another one of Carrot’s close mink friends, she could easily lose a lot from this especially from the clock of Su Long. Seeking vengeance rarely goes the way people expect, I kinda hope that Carrot gets clarity and returns to support Luffy and co, mainly because I am Carrot4Nakama - I doubt she’s got her fill from adventure and she could easily get a bounty post-Wano (I even think her nickname of ‘Moon Rabbit’ would be suitable). While I thought that the title would relate to Shinobu, I did correctly predict Tama rolling up in my Mini-Theory Mashup Wano Edition (Link Here), she is far too much of a pivotal character to be kept away from this, she is a key factor as well. Not only will her arrival kick Usopp and Nami’s protective senses into gear to potentially get the W against Ulti and Pay-Pay (who while I enjoy their dynamic it’s a rough spot when they’re fighting people I like) but she also has influence factors with Luffy and Big Mom. She can be the later kick up the ass for Luffy to remember what he is fighting for but for Big Mom she can be the changing factor, Tama is who drove O-Lin to Udon, whether Big Mom has memories of Tama could in turn prove beneficial for the alliance in having BM turn on Kaido, if she runs in on Nami and Usopp too this could lead to Nami gaining an advantage by reclaiming Zeus.
But yeah, a lot of this was what others are doing aside from the Luffy, Yamato and Scabbards situation, we still are due to see Caribou, Team Law, Team Kid and Hiyori and who that shadowed person is (still think it’s Moria) but we still have 5 more chapters to go fill the big 1000

keep playing that song (hey mister dj)
ao3
Usopp isn’t scared.
The stranger might be a tall, burly dude with one eye, two large scars, and muscles that could rival a god’s, but Usopp is not scared. Nope. Sure, the guy could probably crush Usopp’s head if he does so much as flex , and the scars seem to indicate that he’s trained in some kind of deadly martial arts, and even without all those things he’s still big enough to be able to beat Usopp up into a pulp through sheer strength, and —
Okay, so Usopp might be a little scared.
But it’s not his fault, okay! Who can blame him for being scared when their usual hangout place-slash-music studio is suddenly occupied by such a scary-looking man! Scars, green hair (is that natural color ?), earrings…all signs seem to point to him being a delinquent, if not a yakuza . And on top of that — are those swords lying on top of him? Real swords? Three of them?
The only saving grace of it all is the fact that the man is sleeping soundly, so it’s unlikely that he could kill Usopp right now. Maybe. Usopp isn’t ruling out the possibility that the man could identify weaker life forces in his sleep and eliminate them accordingly, Drunken Master-style.
Usopp yelps when the door to the studio swings open.
“Yohoho, you’re here early, Usopp!” Brook greets with a wave and, completely unperturbed by the existence of the Scary Green Man, makes his way to his guitar. The others start filing in behind Brook one by one, chatting among themselves.
“All right, I’m going to get started over here,” Sanji announces to the group as he starts plugging things up onto his booth, before pointing at the keyboard. “Oi, Usopp, those keys aren’t going to play themselves.”
Okay, so they are not acknowledging this.
Okay. Usopp’s fine with that. Usopp’s good with that. He knows all the wise words like let sleeping dogs lie — or, in this case, let green-haired men with visible battle scars and three swords lie so nobody (read: Usopp) gets maimed and/or fatally injured. He can work with that, sure.
The session starts, and it does get easier to ignore the man when you’re enjoying the music. Before Usopp realizes, they’ve been playing for a couple of hours, made plans for the next jam sessions, and bid their goodbyes. He’s three blocks away on his bicycle before the whole thing dawns on him.
Who the hell was that man?
 -
When Usopp opens the door to the studio, the green-haired man is still sleeping on the couch.
Usopp closes the door again.
All right. Back up. It’s been a week since their last jam session, but somehow the man is still there. Usopp is a smart, rational man — he can work this out.
Option one: the man is a homeless man who somehow has found his way to the studio and started living there. Possibly dangerous, but enough grounds to call the cops. This, however, doesn’t explain why no one seems to be aware of the man’s existence, which leads to the other possibility —
Option two: the man is actually a ghost haunting the studio and Usopp, being the amazing and attentive man that he is, is the only person who could see him, and now he has to find a way for the ghost to move on or he will drag Usopp down to hell with him.
Usopp laughs at his own idea, opens the door again, just as Sanji drops onto the sofa, right beside the man’s head, all-too-close and completely oblivious to the proximity.
Option two, it is.
Usopp is mentally chanting some exorcism spells in his head when Sanji suddenly calls out, “you’re just going to stand around there or what?”
“Ah, right, was just, checking some texts on my phone,” he replies, half-rambling, hoping Sanji would buy some of the lies he’s selling. He quickly scrambles towards the keyboard. “Just gonna practice some variations first before we start.”
“Okay, I’ll wait for the others to come in before setting up,” Sanji says, half-distracted by the book he’s currently reading. If he notices that Usopp is more on edge than usual, he doesn’t point it out, and simply returns to his book.
Usopp takes the opportunity to make some observations.
The situation is downright baffling , because Sanji, generally, is not a tactile person. That’s more of Luffy’s thing — throwing his limbs all over his friends and wrapping them in hugs like a monkey would to a tree. Sanji generally keeps his distance, even with friends, and especially male ones.
But right now, Sanji somehow looks completely comfortable beside the green-haired man, despite the closeness. His shoulders are slumped comfortably against the backrest, with only one hand holding the book — his other hand rests on the empty spot near the man’s head, and Usopp thinks he’s started hallucinating, because — are those fingers absentmindedly playing with the man’s hair?
Men-are-lowly-creatures Sanji? Playing with another man’s hair?
Usopp is beginning to question his own sanity.
 -
Usopp swears he is cursed, because how else could he find himself in a room with the man. Again. With no one else around.
And because the universe hates him, the man suddenly snorts, yawns, and blinks awake.
Usopp has half the mind to run out of the room, and doesn’t do it only because he’s pretty sure the man is like a wild beast that can sense fear. Instead he stays rooted to his spot as the man blearily looks around before finally noticing Usopp’s presence.
Their eyes meet. The man blinks again, before frowning. “Who are you?”
“That’s my question,” Usopp wants to yell at the top of his lungs, which he does, except it’s more of a whisper, and he’s also jumping behind the DJ table. Just in case. “Wait, you can see me?”
The man continues to frown at him. “Why can’t I?”
“You’re alive,” Usopp can’t help pointing out instead.
“...Yeah?” The man looks like he’s questioning Usopp’s mental health, but he also doesn’t look like he’s going to stab anyone anytime soon, so Usopp considers this a win. The man runs his hand through his hair. “Look, I assume you know the Cook.”
The Cook. There can only be one person in their group that fits the nickname. “Sanji. Yeah,” Usopp quickly says, “I’m Sanji’s friend. Also in the band. The name’s Usopp, by the way.”
“Heard ‘bout you. I’m Zoro,” the man — Zoro — introduces himself. And — doesn’t elaborate.
“Right,” Usopp responds, mostly to fill in the silence, “you, uh, you know Sanji?”
It seems like the natural direction for the conversation to take, but it earns him another look from Zoro. “Seriously? The Cook never…” he pauses, before groaning. “Of course he hasn’t. Bet he’s told you more about Nami than he does about me, huh.”
Usopp knows Nami — she’s a friend from Sanji’s university, and sometimes she’d drop by and help with the band’s finances. Zoro, on the other hand... “Look, I’m sorry, man, but all I know is that you’re this guy who started coming into our practice sessions and slept throughout the whole thing.”
“Because it’s boring as hell, that’s why,” Zoro says, before quickly adding, “no offense.”
“None taken, I know it’s not everyone’s thing. Although —” Usopp gulps, wonders if the question is appropriate, but curiosity got the best of him. “If it’s boring to you, why are you here?”
Zoro surprisingly blushes at that. He rubs the back of his neck in a shocking display of embarrassment. “Well, don’t tell him this, but —” he clears his throat, clearly flustered, before mumbling, “the Shit Cook said he’d be happy if I come and support and shit like that.”
“Come and support,” Usopp echoes, brain refusing to work. “Sanji wants you to... come and support him.”
“Yeah, you know,” Zoro says. “As his boyfriend.”
Usopp chokes on air at that. The ghost theory would’ve made so much more sense. Really .
 -
“I wish I could’ve seen your face,” Sanji says in between peals of laughter, “you really thought this Mosshead was a ghost ?”
“It seems to be the most plausible explanation at the time, okay,” Usopp retorts, indignant. In his defense, it would be less surprising than this whole... boyfriend thing.
It’s not like Usopp has a problem with his male friend getting a boyfriend — god, no, not that. But this is Sanji . Woman-loving, romance-obsessed Sanji, who wouldn’t shut up about how it is a gentleman’s duty to take good care of ladies, or how women are so much more beautiful than gross, uncultured men.
That very same Sanji is currently sitting with Zoro’s arm around his back, his head resting comfortably on Zoro’s shoulder. Zoro’s hand is in Sanji’s hair, the gesture familiar, and Sanji clearly preens under the attention like a cat.
“Sorry, I forgot you weren’t there during Nami’s birthday,” Sanji says after he’s finally done laughing, “that’s when I first brought Zoro to meet the band.”
“Wait. Nami’s birthday?” The timeline doesn't add up — “Oh my god, Sanji, that was six months ago .”
Sanji shrugs, “yeah, my bad, I just kinda assumed everyone knew after that.”
Usopp is reeling from it all, because it’s just one revelation after another — not only Sanji started dating a man, Zoro isn’t even some random fling; they might even be going steady . Something he hasn’t seen Sanji do since he was fifteen and got his heart broken by a girl Usopp can’t even remember the name of anymore.
It’s turning Usopp’s world upside down, except when it’s — not. He never considered the possibility before, but looking back, it makes perfect sense. Sanji, with all his self-sabotaging insecurities, would find comfort in Zoro, who is clearly a man of actions. Sweet nothings would’ve done nothing to Sanji, but Zoro, who comes in to his boyfriend’s band practices despite his lack of interest, just because it’d make Sanji happy...Usopp can’t help but smile at the thought.
“Oi, what are you grinning for, Long Nose,” Sanji points out. “That’s creepy.”
“Nah, I was just thinking how sweet it is that Zoro would come to our band practices to support you,” Usopp answers without thinking. “He told me he got bored by it, but he still comes in because you want him to.”
Usopp watches the two men in front of him blush simultaneously at his words as Sanji disentangles himself from Zoro’s arm and sits up straighter. “What? The Marimo told you that?”
“I told you not to tell him!” Zoro growls, and looks away when Sanji turns to him with wide eyes. He buries his face in his hand, but even Usopp can see the blush reach the tips of Zoro’s ears. Sanji beams at the sight, and Usopp has never seen him so happy.
It’s sweet, and Usopp is happy for Sanji, but he still doesn’t want them to start making out here, ew, so he clears his throat.
Zoro and Sanji jump away from each other, clearly having forgotten about the only other person in the room. Sanji instantly scrambles to his feet and make his way to the DJ table, blabbering, “anyway, uh, I’m going to set things up, you just be a good boy and wait there as usual.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Zoro says, plopping back into the sofa, but Usopp notices how Zoro doesn’t immediately go to sleep like usual. Instead, his gaze lands on Sanji.
Zoro doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who beams, but right now there’s one of those little smiles on his face, the kind that someone wears when they think no one is looking. It erases the hard lines on his face, and there’s a flash of something — soft , in the way his gaze clings onto Sanji’s back.
Zoro is not so scary after all.

Chapter One
There must be something there that wasn’t there before.
‘It felt like she was dreaming.
For the last eight years she’d been living in sheer hell. Hope was a foreign concept when hers had been gunned down right in front of her eyes. At ten years old she was forced to grow up and take on the role of protector that Bellemere had previously played. Freedom became a legend she could no longer afford believe in.
Still, Arlong would offer it to her; keeping it just barely out of her reach so she’d obey his every order. If she drew enough charts, if she saved enough money -she could save her village. There was only a slim chance that she’d be successful and it would take a long time - but she didn’t care. She would do it. She had to, or else her mother would have died for nothing.
Her future looked bleak, with only the tiniest pinprick of light shone at the end of the tunnel. Then... A teenager with devil fruit powers quite literally fell into her life bringing with him an explosion as bright as the birth of a star and suddenly - she was free. For the first time ever, somebody had showed up to defend her; to slay the monsters she never could.’
Nami sighed quietly, leaning one of her shoulders against the alley wall, observing the party her villagers had thrown to celebrate. The last time they’d felt joy like this she had only been as tall as Genzo’s knee, and their family was still whole. It felt indescribably wonderful to know that she would never have to worry about her home again. The Arlong pirates had been defeated and the prison she lived in destroyed. ‘She was safe now.’
Her gaze swept along the crowded street from face to smiling face until they landed on Luffy.
‘Luffy.’
Her heart surged into her throat like it did when she thought about Bellemere. How could she ever hope to express to him how grateful she was for what he did? ‘He would probably say, just buy me lots of meat.’
Nami’s lips quirked into half a grin. Luffy was so noble, and brave - and yet at the same time he was the goofiest human being she’d ever met. He made her smile. He’d protected her when she thought that the only person capable of that had been killed a long time ago. She didn’t have to fight alone; she’d never have to fight alone again so long as she had her friends.
‘Her friends… She had friends now.’
The navigator searched for them. She spotted Usopp standing on top of one of the tables near Luffy with his hands on his hips. He seemed to be spinning one of his less than truthful tales to entertain anyone who would listen.
She found Sanji a little way further doting on Nojiko who looked amused. Her head shook side to side but she was grinning to herself.‘So typical of them.’
Continuing her search, as there was one more crew member that she hadn’t seen since the battle, she frowned when she couldn’t find Zoro. ‘Maybe he was still being treated… He had been injured pretty horribly before he even got to Cocoyashi-“
Nami winced when the memory of her socking him in the gut and stomping on his chest flashed through her head. The look on his face, and his labored coughing as he doubled over... He must have been in an unimaginable amount of pain. ‘But that hadn’t stopped him from fighting with every last ounce of his strength to save them. To save her.’
She should apologize…
The navigator went to snag a bottle of sake from one of the tables laden with food and drink, then made her way towards Dr. Nako’s infirmary. The doctor probably didn’t want him drinking but it would make the swordsman happy – and she loved to see him smile.
                                            ***
Zoro was resting his eyes when he heard the clinic door open, but paid it no mind since he assumed the old man had come back to check on him. He listened to the footsteps as they crossed the room, but they were a lot lighter than the doctors. Click-clack, click clack, click clack.
‘They sort of sounded like heeled sandals.‘
“Zoro? Are you awake?”
‘Oh. It was Nami.’
His stomach did a little backflip, and his heart thundered just a bit faster. But he couldn’t let her know the effect she had on him or else she’d use him like that stupid cook. He pretended to be sleeping deeply but she didn’t leave. ‘Maybe he should say something mean to make her go away-‘
“I brought you a present.”
Now he was interested. Zoro cracked one eye open to see what she had for him and then grinned stupidly. “Sake!”
“I knew you were faking it,” she wrinkled her nose, lowering herself beside him on the mattress as he sat up to take the bottle from her. Almost instantaneously he cracked it open and gulped a couple mouthfuls down. “Jeez, would you have acknowledged me if I hadn’t brought you booze? You damn alcoholic.”
He narrowed his eyes at her because she better not have only come here to pick a fight with him – sake or not. “Don’t you try and guilt trip me, woman- hey!” Zoro yelped when Nami pinched his cheek, though it didn’t really hurt. He grabbed her hand and yanked it away from his face. ‘Knock it off.”
“I was only teasing you, dummy.” Her eyes shifted to his bare chest and traced their way down the length of the freshly stitched wound that crossed his entire torso. She still couldn’t believe he’d fought so valiantly in this condition. Sometimes the intensity of his ambition and determination were almost frightening.
“Do I need to put a shirt on, Nami? You look like you’re getting distracted.”
The smirk that dressed his face was so arrogant that she wanted to pinch him again but when she went to move her hand – he was still holding onto it, ‘Why did that make her feel like there were butterflies fluttering around inside of her?’ Nami turned her head to the other side as her face flushed with heat, hoping some of her hair would hide it.
Zoro gave her a quizzical look before he noticed his grip on her fingers. ‘Oh, shit. He was such a fucking idiot.’ Clearing his throat and bringing the bottle to his lips, Zoro let go of them hastily. ‘Just pretend it didn’t happen,’
“So… Why’d you come all the way over here to give me this, anyway?” He asked to change the subject, leaning towards the side table and setting the sake onto it.
Nami clasped her hands together in her lap, not yet turning her head because it felt like her face was getting hotter. “Well… Um. Actually…” she peeked at him, and he had one eyebrow cocked, “I came to say I’m sorry.”
“…..Sorry for what?”
‘Was he being serious?’ Nami finally looked at him and his expression was still stumped. “For punching you! And…” Her head bowed in shame, shoulders rounding as she went on, “And stomping on you, while you had an injury like this,” a deep frown began to settle into her mouth and forehead, “I should have known better, I should have guessed that you were injured pretty badly-”
“Nami.”
“-you were covered in bandages, after all, but I was so worried that they’d kill you if they thought we were friends-“
“Nami.”
“-so I hurt you to make it seem like I didn’t care about you, but I shouldn’t have hit you so hard, maybe if I’d been gentler you wouldn’t have been in so much pain-“
“Nami.” Zoro cut her off firmly and grabbed her shoulders, shaking her in a delicate manner and pulling her towards him. She finally lifted her head back up and looked him in the eyes, but hers were welled with tears that she was trying desperately not to shed. A sharp pang stabbed all the way through his heart. ‘Was she really crying because she felt so bad about hurting him? Did… She care about him that much?’
“It’s fine,” he murmured, sliding his hands down to her triceps and squeezing them tenderly as if to reassure her, “I’m fine, okay?”
Nami didn’t believe him for one second, but she didn’t have the energy to argue. Especially not when he was gazing at her with so much genuine concern written into his brow line. It surprised her. ‘Did he care about her so much that he was lying about the pain to ease her guilt?’
A tidal wave of intense affection crashed over her entire being. “Oh, Zoro-“ she cried out and tossed both of her arms around his neck, hugging him as tightly as she possibly could. Her chin found a perch on his shoulder. Tears squeezed out of her blinking eyes to clear her vision and dripped down her cheeks onto his skin.
Zoro sat there, frozen, having not at all expected her to do something like this. When she didn’t let go of him - he curved his arms around her waist, pressing one of his palms against her upper back. His head bowed slightly. and he leaned the side of his face on her hair, eyelids slipping closed. He wasn’t very good at comforting people with words, but he knew how to be a warm shoulder to cry on thanks to Luffy and his occasional night terrors.
For a few minutes no one said anything… They just held each other. Until Nami whispered something in a voice so quiet that he almost didn’t hear her. Almost.
“You’re my hero.”
His heart started to beat unevenly and his stomach did a double backflip. ‘Why was he so nervous all of a sudden?’
“…Nami,” she started to pull away from him but stayed close enough to rest her elbows on his trapezius muscles. His fingers splayed between her shoulder blades and pressed into her shirt. For some reason his voice rumbled like thunder when he spoke, “I’m not a hero...”
“You are to me.”
“……” The way she was looking at him stirred up far too many feelings for him to account for. Zoro’s gaze flickered down to her mouth then back to her eyes. ‘She was such a beautiful person. Not just her face, but the content of her character. Her soul. Kuina had been beautiful like that, too.’
Even though he knew he probably should, he didn’t want to let go of her. A burning flood of passion captivated him with the urge to kiss her. ‘Wait - kiss her?’ His heart jumped into his throat. ‘What?? Had he turned into the damn cook?!’
She was sitting so close to him, closer than she’d ever been in the past. He could count each of her freckles and draw constellations on them. If he tilted his head down, they’d knock foreheads. And she smelled so sweet… ‘Like freshly peeled tangerines.’
Nami watched his expression shifting steadily from one emotion to the next. ‘What was he thinking? Why hadn’t he pushed her away yet?’ Not that she wanted him to. Quite the opposite, actually. Her gaze darted to his lips when he wet them, then moved back up to find his eyes half-lidded. He unconsciously bumped the end of his nose against hers.
“Nami, I…”
Was... He going to kiss her?
“I..”
It certainly seemed like he wanted to. ‘Did she want him to?’ Nami shivered but not because she was cold. She’d never thought about kissing Zoro prior to this moment but now that she was… ‘She kind of wanted to kiss him, too. She kind of wanted to kiss him a lot.’ All he had to do was lift his chin a few more centimeters.
He closed his eyes and started to, slowly...
WHAM! The clinic doors burst open followed by a shouting voice they both recognized.
“ZOOOOOOOROOOOOOO!”
Nami shoved herself off of her crew mate and the mattress at the same time that he practically ripped his arms from her torso. She took a step back just as their captain came bounding in holding a large plate piled with food.
“Oh hi Nami, why’re you here?” Luffy noticed her standing somewhat awkwardly beside the bed but his gaze shifted to Zoro and he forgot all about it. “Oh yeah, look Zoro!” He beamed at his first mate, scrunching both of his eyes closed and holding the plate up, “I brought you meat.”
The navigator chose this moment to slip away. Her heart was beating so fast that it felt like a hummingbird was trapped in her rib cage. ‘What had just happened! Well - what had just nearly happened?! Were they about to kiss?? If Luffy hadn’t run in, would Zoro have kissed her?!’ It had happened so slowly yet so quickly at the same time.
‘But they were just friends… Right?’
Question after question danced through her head until she shook it violently to clear it. She told herself that it must have been the sake that made Zoro act the way he did, because they were just friends. If he had another chance to kiss her she was certain he wouldn’t take it.
‘And yet… A small part of her wanted to give it to him anyway.’
                                                                          ***
Zoro had trouble settling down after Luffy left him to find more food(he’d eaten almost everything that he originally brought for his first mate.) He just... Couldn’t stop thinking about Nami - about what he’d almost done. ‘What the fuck had come over him? He’d never wanted to kiss her before tonight, so where the hell did he even get that idea from?’
“I’m drunk,” the swordsman said out loud to the empty building, like he was trying to convince himself, even though he knew it took at least two bottles to get him tipsy – and he’d barely drunk half of the first one. “I’m drunk,” he repeated, glaring at the foot of his bed where Luffy had left the mostly empty plate. All that was left were a few tangerines.
‘He and Nami were friends.’
Zoro picked one up and held it in front of him, expression unreadable.
‘What had happened tonight was a fluke, and there was no way it would ever happen again.’
With only a few rays of moonlight seeping through the curtains above his head, he could just make out the normally much brighter orange sheen of the fruit’s skin.
‘They were just friends. But… Was that all he honestly wanted them to be?’
