thank you so much to Litehouse for naming "songs of youth" the publication of the month! 💚🙏 it means the world to me!
#repost @tothelitehouse: "Watch out, there's some new exophonic poetry on the loose and it's amazing 🎉
This month's featured publication from exophonic writers rightfully belongs to Téa Nicolae and her recently published poetry collection 'songs of youth.' Téa is a Romanian poetess and scholar-practitioner living in the United Kingdom. She writes devotional (bhakti) poetry as well as confessional poetry, and her main research interests are the Mahābhārata, Śāktism, and non-dual philosophy.
"songs of youth" is a collection of poetry written between the ages of sixteen and twenty. Brian Molko of Placebo once said that, when you are a teenager, you react to the world that surrounds you with great emotionality and intensity, with full heart. He mused that growing older is a process of finding semblances of sanity. This collection aims to illustrate exactly that; it is not written by an adult looking back with maturity, nor tenderness to their early years, but by the teenager in the midst of experiencing the turbulent highs and lows of being thrown into life.
You can purchase the book on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/.../ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i1 and from Barnes & Noble: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/.../songs-of.../1143409970 It's so great to see exophonic writers shine and get the recognition they deserve. Congrats Téa on your achievement 🌸" 🙏✨🙏
much gratitude to the amazing Danai Spyrou 🥰

Hello! Sorry if this a weird ask, but do you know any journals that I can submit my writing to (even if I'm greek, living in greece) ??
<3
hi dear! it will depend on your writing and what you are looking to submit--if you're writing in english the only one i know for sure is To the Litehouse (set up by the wonderful @objetpetita) which focuses specifically on exophonic writers. otherwise i'm not too familiar w that side of lit journals, but if any of my frequently-writing/submitting mutuals or followers know please absolutely do send your recs in <3

can one become a poet/writer even if English isn't their native language, and they started taking poetry (and literature in general) seriously after their 20s. Still possible to be good at writing, at describing events, thoughts, moments in a beautiful way?
Of course you can. I think poetry/writing or any type of art is not limited to a language or anything. Art is something that comes from the heart. I know it sounds a bit cliché but it's true. There are so many well known and eloquent exophonic poets and writers who are known for describing things in the most beautiful way. Take Khalid Hosseini for example. He's not a native speaker either but he still managed to describe scenes in such a beautiful way, and many people across the world felt seen by his characters. Kahlil Gibran is also one of them and I know he's well known for his Arabic poems but he's also known for his English books as well. I mean The Prophet is a masterpiece. Even Joseph Conrad is among them. I first heard his name in High school when my English professor was telling us about the history of novels and novellas and I didn't know he was a non-native speaker until I searched for it months after. So to suffice this, you can still be excellent at describing scenes, capturing beauty in words, and creating metaphors, you just have to take the first step without being hesitant. And for me poetry and writing is an experience of something like- a reader's heart feeling seen by the one on the page. Writing is putting your heart out on the paper through words. And reading is seeing that heart see yours & hearing that heart whispering to yours ‘I see you. You're not alone.’ Or in a more sensible manner and Rudy Akbarian’s words: ‘Poetry doesn't have to rhyme, it just has to touch someone where your hands couldn't.’ So I wish you all the best and I hope you become a poet/writer the history will remember <3

Listen. I know your thesis isn't about this BUT it's what I want to write about at some point so: How translations are haunted by their original text - a study of how authors (transcribers?) choose different words to communicate abstract concepts and how language shapes our understanding of said concepts
(I am actually really interested in what you're writing about btw, can't wait until you're finished)
Oooooh!!! Indeed not my research topic but an interesting one nonetheless. I think you might want to look up exophonic/translingual literature to get a sense of how the writing of an author in a language that is not their mothertongue might still bear influences of their native language and shape their understanding of words and word uses. In translation, you'd probably find stuff in studies on metaphor translation or the very controversed concept of equivalence. Good luck to you!!

Aus der Nacht (author’s word)
Aus der Nacht (compelete) is to be found at AO3.
I have created Aus der Nacht as another training text for Wahnsinn regiert, much like the already published Ich Will.
The two texts (Ich Will and Aus der Nacht) have something in common: they feature my most unusual pairings (Till and Andrea; Richard and Doom) and they are both relatively short, especially compared to the text they serve as preparation for (Wahnsinn regiert and its parallels). Moreover, they were inspired by this picture of Andrea Marino – sweet, isn’t he?
However, Aus der Nacht has originally been written in German (I am an exophonic writer and my favourite language is German).
It was not beta-read or edited by anyone so I can’t know if (and where) problematic places may be; thus, should one discover something unsettling in not the right way, please let me know; it is working along with my own biases.
PS: there are names of Rammstein albums hidden in the five chapters; can you catch them all? And some other references, such as why exactly five chapters or who am I referring to in the name of the text?

"The Elevator Man Adheres to Form
Not really the elevator man at Newberry Library
I am reminded, by the tan man who wings the elevator of Rococo art. His ways are undulating waves that shepherd and swing us
cupid-like from floor to floor. He sweethearts us with polished pleasantries, gallantly flourishes us up and up. No casual 'Hi's from him.
His greetings, Godspeedings display his Ph D aplomb. And I should feel like a cherubim All Fleur-de-lis and pastel-shell-like, but instead
I vision other tan and deeper much than tan early Baroque-like men who (seeing themselves still strut-- lessly groping, winding down subterranean grottoes of injustice,
down dark spirals) feel with such tortuous, smoked-stone grey intensity that they exhale a hurricane of gargoyles, then reel into them.
I see these others boggling in their misery and wish this elevator artisan would fill his flourishing form with warmth for them and turn his lettered zeal toward lifting them above their crippling storm."

"Paradoxically, what made post-punk music culture so positive was its capacity to express negativity –a negativity thereby de-privatised & de-naturalised. In the lack of such outlets, negative affect now is internalised, generating a suppressed sadness behind a mandatory enjoyment" --@k_punk_unlife (via @mckenziewark)

He could break free. But the terror of free will was vertiginous. Hence, he would invoke the rules which were there before him, to shake off his shoulders the unbearable weight of the choice, so that later on he could forgive himself for what he had done to his own life. So he did the sole thing he could bear doing. He returned home [...]

my loss is my root
*poem published in Litehouse. you can listen to me read it here. (my first audio-poem! celebrations!) this will be one of the last poems of woe i will share for awhile. incredibly grateful that my poetry has blossomed in another direction, as well.
My loss is my root when my legs are wobbly.
it keeps me level-headed, grounded,
with my feet turned inward.
my loss is motherly.
it keeps me nurtured,
well fed, full.
my loss is nourishing,
it wets my lips when my mouth is dry.
on good days, i like to think that my loss blossoms in my core and drops through my feet to the moist soil it falls to the centre of the earth, through tangled grass and layers of rock it feeds on flower stems, leaves and seeds and absorbs the warmth of mother earth. when it skyrockets back to me, it throbs with energy it heals my body and patches the open wounds in my brain on good days, i imagine my loss sprinkles the ground like rain. it wets my fingers, and when i cry, the soil thrives.

Who am I?
My name's Anna. I'm an unlicensed exophonic writer, you may or not know me as Faith Dante. I'm an artist student, wannabe actress, designer (fashion, logo & books), singer, translator, lyricist & more.
I study whatever I find interesting. Mostly related to art, music, fashion, architecture, makeup and cinema. I'm a blogger and a vlogger. An artist, obsessed with knowledge. But also languages and linguistics.
I am currently studying several languages. And I plan to keep doing it so because I love them a lot.
I speak: 🇲🇽 🇺🇲 but currently learning 🇬🇧 pronunciation
Currently learning: 🇨🇵 🇯🇵
