Open Drabble 4
Hero and Villain stared each other in the eyes, none of them wanted to break eye contact.
Until Villain gave in. He eased the tension from his shoulders and walked away. He kept walking and walking and walking, not stopping until he was quite sure he was far away from them. The mist of the forest lingered in the night and cast a translucent veil on the trees.
Reaching the edge of the forest, he sat down on a lone stump of the tree. He looked at nothing but his feet while contemplating the rage, confusion, fear, and discontentment.
“Ah, I always hated to see you like this son.”
This voice. It was all too familiar for villain. It belonged to a person he deeply cared for and cared for him mutually, whose death was brought about by his stupid actions in the past.
Suddenly, shock and regret added to the burden he was already feeling in his heart and amplified the rage. Why did he have to show up?
He caught a glimpse of a white figure treading beside him and invited itself into the space he was not occupying in the rock. The ghost was a little more opaque than the mist. The warmth of the spirit touched his skin and it felt cold. Once it was settled, it said, “Would you like me to tell you a story?”
“I am not a kid anymore father,” he replied coldly
“I will tell you anyway because you are acting like one!” The ghost held its forefinger near villain as if scolding him.
“When you were a boy, a fortune teller went to our house. Your mother was very fond of them. When the lady held you in her arms, her brows furrowed, and looked at me and said, ‘By Golly, this one will give you a headache!’” The ghost chuckled upon remembering the memory.
“I said, ‘Don’t they all? Children and everyone.’ But, this lady, she was serious. She said ‘More than a headache. He will cause you great misfortune in life. Everything you’ve worked hard for will be gone-;”
“And she was right, ain’t she?” Villain interrupted as he gritted his teeth and clenched his fist. He felt that the presence of his father was only there to make him feel worse. Yes, it was him! The black sheep in the family of heroes who dreamed too big. It was he who didn’t care for any means, just to get what he wanted. It was he who descended into the darkness instead of accepting the light his family offered. It was he who planted anger and greed in his heart. I get it!
The ghost was taken aback. He laid a cold hand on villain’s back and answered him honestly with sad eyes. “She was. Even told me to abandon you. I didn’t”
By now, fury was reigning within the swirl of emotions within Villain. If he could only swat that ghostly hand and walk away. No, he needed to say this. Channeling his rage on the ground, refusing to lay eyes on his father’s ghost. His piercing gaze could burrow a hole in the earth. He screamed, “So I owe it to you because you didn’t abandon me?”
The ghost shifted in his seat and sighed with disappointment. He thought that this would be a long talk. “I did not say that, and I made sure no one said something like that again in front of you or the family.”
Villain was not having it. “Where are you getting at”
“We love you, son,” The father said tenderly. Villain felt it too and it made him jolt. “I, your mother, your grandfather, your brothers, your friends, even your mentors. We all do, and all we wanted was for you to see that and be content with it. We wanted you to know that no matter how powerful you are, or how rich you are, it will not matter when you are void of love and all you have in your heart is anger and discontentment.”
You had me in your first words, but you don’t get it. “I merely wanted to be happy. Contentment destroys it,” Villain said coldly.
The ghost lightly banged the brown staff he was holding. He rested his hands on its curved grip as he looked at his son with amazement. “And tell me, were you? I know you son. I saw how you were constantly worried and afraid.”
Villain, pride reigning in his heart and mind, didn’t want to admit that his father was right. He spent the past years of his life plotting the perfect plan and waiting for it to come to fruition. When it did, he was tormented by the prophecies told by his advisers and rarely got to enjoy what he had. He thought it would be enough if he had it all. Their power, fame, ambition, prosperity, alliances. He worried about his future and the prospect of Hero coming back what was rightfully his. While he got everything he wanted, happiness did not reign in his heart as he hoped it would. In the end, everything that he worked hard to get was stripped away from him by justice and fate. It was cruel.
Still, Villain held on to pride and said, “It was a small price to pay.”
The ghost sighed heavily and prompted himself to stand. He laid another hand on the Villain’s shoulder.
“You really are foolish.” The ghost said. It was not meant to insult him but as an expression of disappointment. “I guess you will never outgrow that, but if there’s one thing I want you to outgrow, it’s letting go of your pride.”
His grip on Villain’s shoulder was tightening, almost as if he had a physical body. Villain still sat motionlessly and refused to look. The ghost continued, “My son, you do not live for yourself. You live with others just as others live for you. Those who live for you out of love always desire your happiness and safety. You must desire these things for them too. We live in a world of give and take.”
His father’s words were starting to take effect now. He remembered how much they restrained him from his grand plan, how much they told him it would not do good. The one who urged him the most was the very person he is talking with right now. In the end, he could only see that they were right. Everyone was right and he was wrong. Tears started to swell in his eyes.
The ghost said, “Remember when I told you a while ago that I hated seeing you like this?”
“You mean miserable?” Villain said, voice breaking down from the tears flowing in his eyes. Finally, he was able to look up at his father’s eyes and see that they were filled with compassion and longing. How long had he seen someone look at him the same way? So, so long.
The ghost placed a cold, gentle hand on his hair and caressed it. “I mean alone, with no one to give to and nothing to take. Now, are you content with that?”
In spite of this, flashbacks of his happiest memories were playing in his mind and they all had the same thing in common: people. His younger brothers whom he would endlessly joke with. His mentors, who would praise him when he would accomplish something. His parents and grandparents, who would show him that he is as loved as everyone in the family. Most of all, with Hero, his most trusted buddy before everything lead to downfall. Hero, who is now offering him a chance to change and be a hero like he was always expected to be.
The answer was clear. “No, Father.”
“Then go!” The ghost said assertively. “Go to them and help them, and they will help you in return. In this way, you will claim the happiness that you’ve always wanted.”
“Yes, Yes I’ll do it!”
“Now Go!”
The words “Go!” resounded in Villain’s ears as he opened his eyes and awoke from a slumber that seemed so deep. He was on that rock again from where he stopped, sitting alone. He thought of the ghost that sat with him and remembered the last thing it said.
Scrambling on his feet, he dashed back into the forest and disappeared into the mist.

i feel like people are sleeping on the occam's razor situation of how buckwild it is to outright accuse a guy of being a clone of your friend even if you DO have a lot of circumstantial evidence. there's other options is what im saying. they could just be like. a guy. that's a sensible deduction. you should explore that deduction. ignore my shirt that reads I <3 RED HERRINGS.
i still think odile has the correct theory on lock but she's smart enough to know it needs like... a real smoking gun to be able to bring it up without sounding insane.
anyway. (mirabelle voice) i know its rude to speculate but has anyone else noticed the grieving? they seem to be grieving. does anyone have any thoughts on the grieving? i have some thoughts on the grieving.
#[isabeau voice] am i insane or does sometimes loop talk like they might have killed their whole family. is that just me? just checking.#nille design highly inspired by @kiwibrain's since its the one that imprinted in my mind. liberties taken since i didnt look @ reference#anyway i have a lot more thoughts on this? i guess ill hide them in the tags...? scroll down i suppose.#isat#in stars and time#isat spoilers#in stars and time spoilers#isat act 6 spoilers#isat loop#isat siffrin#isat bonnie#isat nille#isat fanart#in stars and time fanart#doodlebyte#----------------------------------------------------------------------#anyway the extra thoughts. are literally just my general thoughts on postcanon. (and thus are the context for all of my postcanon doodles!)#which is i think nille joins the party before loop reappears for a start (either from a period of nonexistence or just wandering around)#and that like. i think the party should be able to integrate loop as a completely new person. because they are! the secrecy isn't great but#They and Siffrin shuffle into different ecological niches in the party (eg. i think sif is more squeamish after it all but loop isnt)#and while it's not *exactly* what Loop wanted they get that beggars can't be choosers. and its pretty good#(i am glossing over how i think loop's reappearence drags both them and siffrin into a massive behavioural backslide and is likely a bit#distressing to watch go down. cycle of argument -> lovebombing -> normalcy -> repeat. etc etc. but since they are no longer literally#stewing in the worst pressure cooker of all time they do resolve it via productive conversation on their own time. its fine)#the party well-meaningly tries to deduce things from loop's vagueries and are able to pin down the DEAD FAMILY vibe pretty quickly.#but eventually the question of their prior identity falls by the wayside because well! they're just their friend loop! (also change belief)#as for how The Truth Come Out... this is what i mean by The Isabeau Torment Nexus(tm). which is that i think... isiloop should almost occur#BEFORE isabeau knows who loop is. he's just genuinely charmed by them eventually and tries to close the open end of the polycule#which FREAKS LOOP THE FUCK OUT because thats just too genuinely sick and wrong. and obviously w emotions high its not a great confrontation#ANYWAY told u i had more thoughts. if i were normal itd be a text post but.

Did. Did you see Ortho's Broomquet preview? The fact that his broomquet is mostly white like Kalim's, Rook's and Silver's and that we know by now that Idia's ideal dreamworld involved OG!Ortho being still alive and a student at Royal Sword Academy is killing me. Twst is throwing hints left and right that OG!Ortho was meant to be a light magic user heroic character just to tug further at our heartstrings with his death and IT'S WORKING. I'M IN SHAMBLES.
as much as I am rolling around on the ground waiting for more of Silver and Sebek's Excellent Adventure, I am also SO desperate to see the resolution of Idia's dreamworld and, fingers crossed, more of dream!OG!Ortho. and I don't know how it would be physically possible, but I would LOVE the Orthos to actually meet somehow! bonus points if there's some kind of very confusing confrontation!
Tumblr media
but I do really like the three-way contrast between OG!Ortho, what Idia thinks OG!Ortho would have been like, and humanoid!Ortho. especially since Ortho's post-episode 6 arc is all about becoming independent and his own person! I want to see more of it! and I can't really put it into words very well, but, like, I would LOVE this to be the resolution where Idia finally manages to come to terms with OG!Ortho's death -- man heard "niichan" once and immediately ran down a billion flights of stairs to throw himself into Metaphorical Hell, he needs something big like this.
(if the September schedule comes out and there's still no more main story, I am going to be DESPONDENT) (I mean I will be understanding because production takes time, no one should be subjected to crunch to meet arbitrary deadlines, a good product that takes longer >>> a rushed product that is out sooner) (but I shall also be despondent)

Hello Newsies fandom, for your casual viewing pleasure (and because apparently some people think headcanoning the Jacobs family as Jewish is antisemitic), here is the exact passage from the official Newsies novel that states Davey is Jewish and Jack is Irish :D
Tumblr media
It's not a headcanon, it's literally written in the source material and, even if it wasn't, this fandom has been headcanoning characters' ethnicities based on their names since 1992. They're street kids living in New York City in 1899, they're going to be a diverse group and the best thing we have to go on is their names. I know my group of mutuals headcanon at least two other characters as Jewish, somewhat if not entirely based on their names.
Like, I don't know how else to explain that headcanoning a character with a traditionally Jewish name isn't "stereotyping" it's literally just being like "oh hey, this whole family has really common Jewish names, it would be fun if they're Jewish" and then we all move on with our lives because it's also literally canon. Like, it would be bad if we were headcanoning a character as Jewish purely because they exhibit behaviors that are also associated with negative Jewish stereotypes but that's literally not what's happening here. Also I'm pretty sure it's mentioned in the non-dialogue parts of the script somewhere but I don't have access to that.
In conclusion, don't be weird about people headcanoning characters as minorities, it's not stereotyping it's literally just people existing.
(Also, I am not Jewish, so I do not at all claim to be any kind of authority on representation. If any Jewish bloggers want to weigh in I will happily read and be open to learning!)

I can’t believe there’s no fic out there where Steve and Callahan are related somehow. I think they look similar enough that they could be related and I’ve got two ways you can go about it.
(1) Callahan is Steve’s uncle and the worst think this goofy cop has to deal with on a semi-regular basis is his sister’s asshole kid. He can’t even complain about it because his sister is never in town. Phil’s nickname when he was a kid was Noodle so Steve calls him Officer Noodles even after he cleans up his act.
(2) Callahan is Steve’s brother from his mom’s previous marriage and once she married Steve’s dad, she stopped acting like a mom towards Phil. They have a lot of resentment towards each other and it’s frustrating that Phil feels like he can’t give Steve a speeding ticket because he knows what kind of man his father is. He does get extremely jealous when Steve gets close with Hopper because the kid has already stolen his mom, now he’s taking his mentor too? Steve still calls his Officer Noodles.

You know how I know they haven’t quite got the characterization down in this?
Dick would never call Bruce ‘dad’ in this context.

The White Star learns that Cale Henituse transmigrated from a body that he stole. He learns that the person inside Cale Henituse lived with the same curse that the White Star has to.
“Cale Henituse,” the White Star sneers, “or should I address the person inside of Cale Henituse?” Cale stiffens. What is this crazy bastard saying now?
“Yes, the man inside of Cale Henituse. How did my curse feel?” He shouldn’t know this information, but he does, Cale realizes. He has an informant on a god’s level. Raon flinches at these words, and Choi Han levels a deadly stare at the White Star. Oddly, Cale thinks, the blood draining from his face, it feels like he’s glaring at him. Cale doesn’t know why but it feels like he made a mistake somewhere down the line.
“You know the one. I’m sure all of your friends do too at this point as well. Was it fun? You must’ve lost your parents, or even been abandoned? Abused? Did everyone you care about die in a horrible accident?” Cale struggles against the sparking Records, trying to keep his mind on the White Star. In a way, Cale has experienced it all.
The past is the past.
“Raon, he’s stalling.” Cale whispers as quietly as he can, and Raon silently sends out the message to everyone. They need to be prepared. The White Star wouldn’t reveal this knowledge for no reason.
“Cale Henituse, you lived terribly, didn’t you? Yes, you must’ve been pathetic. No wonder you’re like this… You cling onto everyone you know but keep them at arms length, never daring to let the little bug within you know what counts as love, and what counts as use.” The White Star drifts closer, threateningly, and everyone flinches into position. Their eyes are shaking.
“You whiny bitch.” The White Star flinches, pausing in the air. “Do you think that’s how I lived? Is that how you see my actions?” Cale scoffs in disgust.
He’s wrong.
I took everything I could until everyone was gone.
I was selfish.
“We are nothing alike. We are not the same. You may be a disgusting liar, but at least I’m honest trash.”
I barely care about anything because it was always taken away. I don’t care about things because I don’t remember how.
“White Star, do you know what the difference between us is?”
Two similar existences stare at each other.
“Cale Henituse, stop rambling,” the White Star frowns.
Cale rushes at the White Star suddenly, grabbing onto his arm. Before he can shake him off, Cale whispers.
“I’ll tell it to you as a secret.”
Confident as ever, the White Star humors him. Cale whispers even quieter.
“You knew how to care before you chose to lose everything…”
“… While I never had the chance.”
An explosion erupts from their location.
Cale coughs up blood, smiling at the dour expression of his enemy.
“You throw everything away, but I hold everything as close as I’m allowed. As close as I’ve ever able to hold anything.”
Cale drops his expression, glaring up at the disgusting person in front of him.
“Just out of arms reach.”
The White Star launches an attack, and the fight begins again.

Okay, it's like 10pm on a work night and I haven't had any coffee today so my thoughts are a little scrambled BUT. I WAS THINKING.
(About In Stars and Time of course I'm always thinking about that game)
A couple of years ago, at the height of Steddie -my sister was big into it and recced me some fics okay- I read this fic about Steve dealing with time loops ("The one in which a time loop is fucking exhausting" by badpancake) and there was this specific detail about the epilogue that stuck with me.
It was the idea that, once the time loops were done and over with, people would slowly start to remember bits and pieces of what happened in earlier loops. After being fractured for so long across dozens of timelines and experiences and outcomes, time was finally healing, and broken shards of lost memories would find their way back into people's minds.
And that got me thinking about a post-game what-if scenario where the same happens to the gang as they travel through Vaugarde.
Like they still don't remember everything -just bits and pieces. Experiences so emotionally charged that they found a way to cross the sands of time and reach them again.
The question is, what would those memories be? The first answer that comes to mind is some of Siffrin's deaths, of course. I can't imagine watching your friend get pancake-d by a boulder would be pleasant, nor witnessing them turning their own dagger to themselves. Or offering him a slice of your favorite snack only for him to go into anaphylactic shock in front of your very eyes, for that matter!
But there would be other instances too, wouldn't they? Death is not the only thing that shook them to their core. What about their first death to the King? Or Bonnie's fate at the end of Act 3? What about basking in the blissful feeling of victory against the tormentor of your land only to turn to look at your friend and know something is very, very wrong?
What about fighting through the House with a party of 4 instead of 5, bloodied, confused, staring in the face of the King knowing you're about to die and wondering why your friend left you all when you needed them most?
I honestly have no idea where I'm going with this, but I've been rotating this concept in my head since this morning and thought I'd get it out on here so y'all can suffer with me tehee

so... somehow, a funny little youtube show turned into the beautiful and devastating thing that was the season 5 finale of Puppet History.
A show with hand puppets and history lessons and dirty jokes suddenly looked me dead in the eye and said "I know it feels like you are living through the end of the world. And guess what -
You probably are.
But that's ok.
You've been given a chance to see this beautiful place while it is still here, to be with the people you love, to be present right in this moment.
Some things are out of your control.
And that's ok.
I know it's terrifying. It's okay to be scared. But never let fear blind you to the beauty around you, or distract you from the love you feel.
And you know what? Even though everything you know and love will eventually disappear, it's not the end! Something new and beautiful will grow in its place someday. So don't worry. Just live, and love, and be brave."
And I have sobbed harder this morning than I have in a long time.
Thank you @wearewatcher for this incredible episode. Not to be dramatic, but I think it may have changed my life.

stormlight au number 35 (help me i'm lost in the sauce)
Jasnah, Dalinar, and Renarin (surviving Kholin Radiants) travel from End of World all the way to right after Gavilar's death.
Vengeance pact still happens, but plays out very differently. We don't need absolutely every man in the kingdom to join the army, alright Elhokar? And we're making sure Dalinar is there to accept their surrender, actually win in reasonable time frame and 'conquer' them (no Alethi want to live out there anyway, and as long as they send gemhearts in tribute we won't enslave them. actually elhokar, your sister wanted to talk to you about slavery—).
Honestly, just an excuse for:
A) Adolin to have a breakdown that his entire family has been replaced by voidbringers, before eventually accepting with relief that they're still his family, they've just become voidbringers, but its ok because he loves them and will protect their increasingly heretical actions with his life. Hugs his glowing red and green eyed little brother a lot.
Adolin: do I — should I also learn to read?
Jasnah: do you want to?
Adolin: not really, no.
Renarin: to be honest, it's probably for the best if you just focus on being, well, a good Vorin Alethi. One of us probably should be, if we don't have a desolation as a distraction.
Adolin: ok! sure! I can do that. Also thought id mention that if possible, I would personally appreciate *not* having a desolation.
Jasnah: it may prove necessary.
Adolin: I know, i know. Just thought I'd put my feelings out there.
Dalinar: and we'll need you to produce Kholin heirs. Neither Renarin or Jasnah are likely to, and I'm not remarrying a younger woman.
Adolin: Sounds good!
B) Kholin family to have way too strong a reaction to this random darkeyed surgeon in training when they visit Kharbranth, scaring the absolute shit out of said darkeyed surgeon. Adolin walks into a wall when he sees Kaladin. He doesn't even know about the Radiant thing, it's just that
C) Kaladin dresses really hot in this au. Ok. I lied. this is actually the main reason for this au. It — there's a whole chain of events. I – don't look at me like that. The character development works, alright?
A lot of it boils down to distracting people from groping the female medical trainees.
He realizes that breathing in a certain way, while it makes you focus better and move faster, it also makes you more...present somehow? people pay attention to you, for better or worse. Some of the ladies teach him that there are different ways to channel people's focus on you, if they're looking anyway.
And apparently, for the first few years Kharbranth medical students, light and dark eyed alike, have basically no protections from wealthy patients or Lighteyed chief's of staff who are a bit too interested in teaching you to use your safehand, and its not like Kaladin can challenge them to a duel - he doesnt know how to fight, and it would get him and the person hes trying to protect kicked out of the program. So much for honorable lighteyes being real.
But I mean. If wearing some eyeliner, and a gemstone in your hair, if taking your right glove off first after an exam, conspicuously leaving the left on while talking, if bending over to pick his clipboard up in a certain way... if it gets people to not focus on his friends...
...one could probably get pretty angsty with this concept, ngl.
The Stormlight understanding and oaths come in time. There might also be some Radiant Disguise Superhero hijinks, havent fully decided but it's not really a major stretch from canon to say that Kharbranth struggles with violent crime. Also Kaladin gets to learn about institutional racism in school. It's great. I have a lot of Kaladin thoughts but so does everyone in this au so its ok.
Kholins visit Kharbranth:
Jasnah: you've been moping for days. Is your new fixation of the week not responding to your advances?
Adolin: I don't want to talk about it
Dalinar: son, you've clearly been in a mood—
Adolin: look, I'm not — the individual is not suitable for my station, alright? I'm not courting someone I could never actually marry, because that would be stupid.
Jasnah: while it would complicate matters, you know your brother and I have plans to alter the alethi codes around eye color, considering they're clearly a crude derivative of radiant mythologization
Dalinar: I thought we agreed that was low on the priority list
Jasnah: You said that uncle, Renarin most certainly did not agree, and his arguments are sound
Adolin: He's just some surgeon, alright! He's not just darkeyed, he's a darkeyed man. I said I'll get over it! I always do.
Dalinar: ah.
Jasnah: ...did you say surgeon?
Adolin: Yes? Why?
Dalinar: why does it —
Jasnah: how did you meet?
Adolin: He was — he was with this group of women at a winebar, and he was dressed like – but it turned out he just goes to protect them from - and it was so — why are you asking me about this?
Dalinar: Oh! A darkeyed surgeon. Protecting, you say? He sounds...honorable.
Jasnah: Very honorable.
Adolin: He is! He volunteers at this house for injured soldiers, and you wouldn't believe he'd never been to war, I mean his spear Katas — he's – it's like he was born for it —
Dalinar: He sounds like a fine young man. Perhaps you should bring him to meet us.
Adolin: I — while I appreciate that father, I really do, I thought I was the one who was supposed to well. I mean my role in...all of this is to produce heirs and look proper, right?
Jasnah: Hm. when you put it it that way...
Dalinar: I mean, Navani and I might be able to...
Jasnah: Don't be ridiculous. I'm perfectly capable of producing a child, should it prove absolutely necessary,
Adolin: Jasnah?
Jasnah: Provided the man you're courting is of worthy quality.
Adolin: We're not — I haven't been courting! I didn't think it was an option! I don't even know if he's interested! From what I can tell he has people throwing themselves at his feet all the time!
Jasnah: An abnormally honorable darkeyed surgeon, natural warrior, magnetically charismatic personality...yes that might make a worthwhile addition to the family.
Dalinar: I can write to Elhokar at once, recommend that he and Aseuden —
Jasnah: Uncle we've been over this — this is exactly the sort of thing that led to me insisting you come with me on this trip! If we cripple his ability to lead—
Adolin: Are we — are we moving into the discussing the future part of the evening, because I can go guard the door—
Dalinar: wait, when you say produce a child, you don't mean through soulcasting, right?
Jasnah: I don't see why I should answer that question.
Adolin: Yeah, i'm just going to go guard the door now

The first rule of the abusive parents is that they never believe they're doing anything wrong.
The second rule is, that you were just too sensitive to take it and also maybe you imagined it and it didn't happen at all.
The third rule is that it 'wasn't that bad', and even if it was, you deserved it.
The fourth rule is that they were great parents and you need to be grateful for the roof over your head and for being fed.
The last rule is that you need to keep quiet about it.
_________
Deconstruction:
If a child comes to you after gathering courage to confront you about something you did to them and how much it hurt them, that's how you know you did something wrong. They already know they hurt you, so by the time you come to confront them, they've already decided to either play dumb and pretend they 'didn't know and still can't comprehend it and will never be able to learn', which is, they expect you to believe they're stupider than a 5yo. Yes they know they did wrong, that's why they're acting with such determination and covering their tracks and super intent on hiding and covering it up.
All children are sensitive to abuse. Adults should not risk doing anything to a child that might end up in a child getting traumatized. They not only took that risk but repeatedly did things to their children that would traumatize adults and now have the gall to pretend the children 'should have taken it better'. They themselves would go insane if they were treated like that. No you were not too sensitive, they're downplaying the abuse to look less guilty of it. Also telling you that you 'imagined it', or it 'didn't happen', is gaslighting, and they would not be doing that if they did nothing wrong.
Yeah it wasn't 'that bad' for them. To them abusing you was just a little hobby they indulged in for fun and recreation. If you come and tell them it was bad - that's how they know it was bad for you, but they already knew that, didn't they? They took pleasure in hurting you, they knew you were in pain. You feel hatred while you're being abused, and they know they directed that hatred at you. You did not deserve it. No child deserves that. No matter what.
You do not have to be grateful for the roof over your head or food or clothes. The alternative would be to kick you out on the street (illegal), starve you on purpose (illegal) or keep you without clothing (illegal). They're telling you that you have to be grateful that they didn't commit crimes against you and for not killing you on purpose. They're pretending that we live in a world where it's a normal thing to kill off a child for fun so you have to be grateful that didn't happen to you, they're warning you they could have done that. What they're saying is a threat. We could have hurt you worse, be grateful we didn't kill you completely. That is not parenting. That is blackmail and terror.
You don't owe them silence. You have full rights to talk about your experiences. If they 'did nothing wrong', then surely they will not mind if everyone else finds out about it. You do not have to take on the shame and the guilt for what these people did to you when you were defenseless and clueless, your brain and body not even formed enough to fight back. They were adults. They were supposed to take care of you and keep you safe. If they didn't, if they hurt you instead, the shame and the guilt for torturing a child should haunt them forever.
