Y’know, adding 100+ characters to the new season of RWBY isn’t the flex CRWBY thinks it is. We know that when the arc with them is done, they’ll never appear in the show again. The characters we have are already enough, but like hell they’ll ever explore their dynamics if you held their studio at ballistic-missile-point and told them to.

I drew Renaissance in screenshots from ROTTMNT. I tried really hard to make it look like she actually belongs in the shots, but I think that the first one is the best in accomplishing that. The third one is good too though, not gonna lie.
Btw her gun-bow is based off of the weapon that Vella uses in the fanmade RWBY team SLVR.

Maybe there's a good rewrite out there. If there is, I haven't seen it. Because I've had to walk through a bunch of people who say they're "fixing RWBY" and then throwing out basically everything that makes RWBY RWBY.
And "fixing rwby" is the biggest example of bad fanfiction I've seen.
Canonseeker? In my Ask Me Anything? OwO
Well, what makes "RWBY" RWBY?
I couldn't answer that because over the years, I've run to the conclusion that every version of RWBY is completely different to each individual who watches it. I mean, I'll try explaining why from my viewpoint, but it's because of that, that it won't be satisfying to everyone reading this post. I hope that makes sense.
Some people believe totally different things happened in the show (preferring headcanon or making up things that didn't happen), some people just like various aspects of the show (character design, weapons, fight choreography, visual aesthetic, etc.) while other people such as myself only view the show based on what literally appears on screen and comes out the speakers (focusing on the writing and how it contradicts what's shown on screen, or what's shown on screen contradicting the writing, plot holes, retcons, etc.).
I'd like to clarify that there's nothing wrong with thinking about the show differently, and all the power to you if you imagine scenarios that don't come up in the series proper. If that makes you happy and you find enjoyment in that, that's cool. That's your RWBY and nothing I say should detract from that happiness you've found.
But I have no idea what makes "RWBY" itself RWBY. It's certainly not the setting, which isn't unique. It's not the "each character has a unique superpower gimmick" (Semblances) which isn't unique either. It's not Dust (magic rocks), Maidens (magic), Salem (immortal bad guy), Ozpin (morally gray Isekai protagonist), Teams or Grimm (monster enemies) or anything else that comes up in the story.
Nothing story-wise in RWBY is unique to RWBY. It's because of RWBY's lack of uniqueness that I have trouble thinking about what makes "RWBY" RWBY.
(Please keep in mind that lack of uniqueness isn't a bad thing, what's more important is executing these ideas in a way that IS unique and builds story and character.)
You could take away most of these aspects of the story (maidens/magic, Salem/Ozpin, relics, etc.) and I'd still be unable to tell you the answer. RWBY itself has nothing that clearly, definitively, cements itself as "RWBY", except for one weapon design. That would be Crescent Rose. It's the most unique RWBY related thing. It's the most iconic and recognizable piece of RWBY, you can spot it on T-shirts or from cosplayers carrying it from a thousand feet away. Not even Weiss, Blake, or Yang's weapons come close to the level of fame that Crescent Rose's design has.
But what would happen if that was taken away? What does this story have going on for its characters and setting that makes it definitively "RWBY"?
I have no idea.
This is why you see so many various takes and concepts on RWBY. RWBY has such a prolific fanbase in spite of the main show lacking any core ideas or concepts that clearly embody "RWBY", so that's why you see many fans that churn out content, fanfiction, fanart all with their own interpretation of RWBY. Fanmade content dominates the original series. There's so much of it that without the people who are passionate enough to create these things RWBY would not have lasted as long as it has.
What's troubling is that I've seen Canonseeker here put down other people to push his own view of RWBY by trying to purchase his way into making Taiyang a more prominent character by flooding the fanbase with porn of Taiyang. He believes Taiyang is underutilized in RWBY and needs canon confirmation that Taiyang and Summer are a couple in spite of the writers having confirmed this for years now. This is hypocritical since he's doing the same thing he's complaining about fanmade projects doing, but far, FAR worse since he's doing so with the intent of trying to throw money at RT to change Canon RWBY to suit his own beliefs.
Which is why trying to claim or insist that doing something, anything, different from the main RWBY show makes it "not RWBY" is a ridiculous claim to make. When Canonseeker claims "Rewrites are throwing out basically everything that makes RWBY RWBY", I have to ask, "Well, define what "RWBY" is then." And what is the point of a rewrite if not to come up with different ideas? Does Seeker think a rewrite is to make a word-for-word copy of a show? Why even bother putting in the work to make a copy when RWBY proper already exists? It's redundant.
I would much rather spend my time animating or drawing something else than subject myself to "Canon RWBY". Instead, I'll be continuing environment drawings for FRWBY V6 onwards, and working on an original project that has nothing to do with RWBY which I've finally started storyboards for.
TL;DR: RWBY fans each have an individually unique viewpoint of RWBY, nothing makes "RWBY" RWBY except for Crescent Rose's design, and Canonseeker doesn't understand that fanmade content is allowed to be different from canon content.

Nirvaku’s Quadruple Threat
Lo and behold, the NYON project I’ve spent the past month working on! This was originally just supposed to be Nyx but I was like “Never drawn the rest of NYON, let’s give it a shot!”
Apparently this team is incredibly fun (and hard) to draw.
Got some details wrong here and there, but I’m not gonna beat myself up for it lol. Will admit that I had to make some adjustments to Yoko’s arm because I couldn’t get proportions right or get a proper ref for the shoulder’s inner mechanics T^T
I’m uploading a ‘grayscale’ version soon, so keep your eyes peeled! :D EDIT: Right here folks https://mythicalartisttm.tumblr.com/post/183508475658/said-id-upload-it-right-after-lol-full-color
NYON belongs to @cindyaqui and NinjaSteve on Twitter :3

‘Kiss Kiss Fall in Love’
[RUBY]: So Yang...
[YANG]: Yeah?
[RUBY]: How do I get a girlfriend? See, there's this girl that I like...
[YANG]: Look, Rubes, just because I'm dating Blake doesn't mean I have any idea how it happened!
[RUBY huffs, storms away to go seek better advice]
\/\/\/\/\/
[RUBY walks up to Pyrrha, who is levitating a vending machine with her Semblance to try and get a stuck snack]
[RUBY]: Hey, Pyrrha! Are you busy? I need advice...
[PYRRHA drops vending machine, snacks fall out left and right.] Nah, Ruby! What can I do for you?
[RUBY]: How do I get Weiss to like me?
[PYRRHA]: Well, with Jaune it came down to four simple steps:
1. Find the only boy in school who doesn't know your name
2. Staple him to a tree while he's hurtling through a forest full of monsters
3. Make a condescending joke as you rescue him from the tree
4. Kiss Kiss Fall in Love
[RUBY]: Uh, thanks! I'll see if that helps! Hey, do you need those cookies?
[PYRRHA]: Nope, you can have them! I was just after pretzels!
[RUBY scoops up all the cookies and swoops away]
\/\/\/\/\/
[RUBY walks up to VELVET, who is snapping photos of weapons and students]
[VELVET]: Hey, Ruby! How are you going?
[RUBY]: Fine, I guess. Hey, how did you and Coco get together? I'm looking for advice on getting a girlfriend!
[VELVET]: Um... Well, I looked at Coco and fell instantly in love, and she agreed to date me. She's a killer queen, so there was really nobody else to look at here.
[RUBY turns to walk away]: Thanks, Velvet...
\/\/\/\/\/
[RUBY sitting on her bed, looking deep in thought.]
[Enter WEISS with a stack of homework. WEISS throws the homework on the table.]
[WEISS]: Hey, Ruby! [notices RUBY's state.] Something wrong?
[RUBY]: I've been asking for advice on getting a girlfriend all day, and everyone's experiences are extremely specific! So I haven't gotten much help...
[WEISS]: I know how you can get a girlfriend!
[RUBY, almost cheering]: HOW?!?!
[WEISS]: Four easy steps:
1. Knock over her luggage the first time you see her
2. Find her in a forest full of monsters before anyone else does
3.  Help her and two other girls defeat a giant Nevermore
4. Kiss Kiss Fall in Love
[RUBY, thinking for a moment, realizes what's been said. Her eyes widen.]
[WEISS kisses Ruby softly on the cheek]: Thank me later, Ruby.
[RUBY grins widely, hearts and rose petals materializing around her.]

Day 16: RWBY Chibi
This was inspired by a tweet about Host Club that has been buried in my feed, and it made me think of Ruby asking for girlfriend advice.
I’ve had a lot of fun combining the RWBYAC with White Rose Week. Idk if this fits the latter but I’ll day it anyway.

Welcome to my fancomic dedicated to team STRQ. I’ve decided to move the comic here to Tumblr after an unfortunate copyright problem in Webtoons. I will be posting the full chapter of the comic here from now on.
As I said before I DO NOT OWN ANY OF THE CHARACTERS OR THE ORIGINAL STORY, this is just a fanmade project of something I wanted to see in the RWBY universe.  I am not selling this comic in any way. If you would like me to dedicate more time to the project: please consider donating to my patreon for exclusive content & early access.   - Sonya

Welcome to the official blog for the rwby fanmade team CRIS!  It’s a fun project for me that I’ve decided to dedicate some time to so I can hopefully improve in my writing and drawing skills.  I’m currently working on a short comic or two for them, and any art I make featuring them will be posted here.  Any and all criticism or helpful advice is welcome!

I honestly really like your and Just-RWBY's idea of Yang getting aged up before RWBJ find her. Also makes me think of like; what if she found the other survivors, and three able-bodied guys and girls among them agreed to be trained by her and the four of them became their own Huntsman team under her lead? By the time Yang runs into RWBJ again, she and her team are so much more experienced and really close, which creates some friction, especially with Ruby and Blake for obvious reasons.
I’m currently working on a fanmade V9 with a mutual and hopefully we can make something presentable from our ideas. We’re planning on Yang being part of a little community of survivors in a camp, with a close relationship to a young former combat school attendee and bright eyed optimist that had reminded her of Ruby.
I love the idea of tension stemming from the fact that after five years (more than double the time Yang has spent with Blake and Weiss, I think) Yang has connected so much with and spent so much time with the other survivors that she knows them well, but after five years, finds herself awkward and unsure with her teammates. And Ruby, Blake, and Weiss feeling like they don’t really know Yang very well, comparing themselves to this kid who clearly does, is all such a good concept.

48 reasons to like rwby
Let’s talk about why we like rwby
1.       Female protagonists
2.       None of that defeat=friendship
3.       No power of friendship plot armor
4.       No interrupted fight scenes with internal dialogue
5.       No super-dense protagonist
6.       NOT a harem anime
7.       Females equal to males in strength, intelligence, and skill
8.       Women do not exist as servants or love interests
9.       Old women who can fight
10.   Allies cooler than protag who DO NOT DIE
11.   People who are on either side both attractive and smart
12.   Men and women with muscle
13.   Characters sound their age, unlike anime and funimation
14.   No power levels or screaming power up
15.   Gays not treated as creepy stalkers, neither are lesbians
16.   Unlike marvel/dc/Naruto/dragonball/fairytail/bleach…no repeated retcons and plotholes.
17.   Lgbt relationships allowed
18.   Abusive men acknowledged as creeps
19.   Deadbeat mom aspect acknowledged over deadbeat dad
20.   Women are NOT man-hungry or super-greedy or gold-diggers in RWBY…anime, however
21.   Pervertedness dropped
22.   Women are actually fully-clothed and have pockets
23.   Female antagonist resulting out of gods being dicks
24.   Positive half-sibling relationship
25.   Positive politician (Robyn Hill)
26.   Multiple people of color, especially men. (anime only has several POC women used as ship bait or fanservice)
27.   Protagonist is not a goku or natsu (Superstrong dumbass causing Anakin level drama)
28.   Honorary Uncle Qrow (like Black Widow in MCU, although she’s given NO relevance or importance given it’s Disney we’re talking about, they don’t treat women wel)
29.   They don’t try to kill off women or POC for shock value as quickly as Anime, Marvel, DC, and Hollywood (X-men First Class)
30.   People of color are not treated as poor citizens but put into places of power and position which most anime and especially Hollywood does not.
31.   NO INCEST tropes which Anime seems to like.
32.   Netflix and Hollywood do “passion of christ” “Avatar Live-Action” “Death Note Netflix” “cutie” “dragonball evolution” “sucker punch” and somehow THOSE are considered good writing compared to RWBY?
33.   Pokemon being plot hole epitome and plot armor epitome
34.   Naruto being the master of treating women lesser than men to the point the writers explicitly state that sarada, the one single female Uchiha, has the title of weakest Uchiha.
35.   Fairy tale references WITHOUT genderbending people into harem ships like the Fateverse
36.   Much more realistic  behavior than anime, and no karma Houdini
37.   No Hacks, no Worf Effect (spiderman vs silver surfer) (deathstroke vs justice league)
38.   No throwing fights (Lobo vs Wolverine, Wonder woman vs storm)
39.   None of that stupidity of mindset code (batman no killing) (let evil live) (forgive those that fuck you over “frieza and tienshinhan”)
40.   Dozens of fancomics, fancomic dubs, fan animations, and fanmade video games means an invested fandom.
41.   Does not require dozens of filler arc or character flashbacks
42.   Fights do not have to take 5-10 episodes
43.   People other than the protag have “healing/recovery” powers
44.   Sexual harassment is not glorified, downplayed, or joked about like in anime, manga, or tv/movies
45.   CWRBY is invited to conventions
46.   RT puts their shows on their youtube, while Toei Animation sues Team Four Star to the point of shutting down the abridged.
47.   Unlike Shield Hero and Fateverse, no pedophelia.
48.   No calling out attacks

This was inspired by a fanmade STRQ picture from RWBY Reddit:
Tumblr media
Tai: Ok Team, let's look good for the photo!
Summer: R-right (Oh my gosh he so close! I can't believe he is touching me! Did he always looked so well?! Why am I sweating right now? Qrow, Raven help me!)
Raven: I don't know why, but this camera man irratets me (also why is Tai touching my shoulder, and why does it fell so calming?)
Qrow: (Doesn't say anything, just wants to look edgy and cool)

Monty Oum & What RWBY Means to Me
Tumblr media
5 years ago, the RWBY and Rooster Teeth community was stricken with the tragic news that Monty Oum had passed away at the young age of 33. He was a very talented young man with a knack for creating some of the most bizarre yet fucking awesome concepts, his fan films Haloid and Dead Fantasy, his work on Red vs Blue Seasons 8-10 are considered landmarks in the show’s history and RWBY is now one of Rooster Teeth’s top franchises.
Today, I want to honour him and show the world that they’re missing a bright star.
A Brief History of Monty Oum
Monty Oum was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1981. A highschool dropout, he was making fan animations as early as 2002, with his most famous, Haloid, being released in 2007.
youtube
This got him noticed by many people in the gaming industry and he even managed to get a job at Midway Games and later Bandai Namco as a combat designer in 2008. However, he soon realised that the gaming industry wasn’t as appealing to him as he thought, so he left to peruse filmmaking.
In 2010 he met with Bernie Burns from Rooster Teeth and was hired as lead animator for their hit series, Red vs Blue, for their 8th season.
Tumblr media
Now I’m not familiar with Red vs Blue, outside of a few clips that my friends showed to me back in college. But from what I’ve seen, Monty brought a level of energy for Seasons 8-10, featuring a lot of his signature stylistic fight choreography. It was during this time that he had an idea for his own series that he wanted to make. He pitched it to Bernie, who agreed to it if he could deliver Season 10 of Red vs Blue.
Once Season 10 wrapped up, featuring Elijah Wood no less, Monty teamed up with his friends and fellow Rooster Teeth employees, Kerry Shawcross and Miles Luna, and created his crown jewell; RWBY.
RWBY
Tumblr media
Between late 2012 and mid 2013, four trailers were released promoting a new series for Rooster Teeth. These featured four girls wearing elaborate and colourful outfits, an anime styled aesthetic, kickass music and the epic fight sequences that would soon become synonymous with this series. The trailers were named after the colours associated with each of the characters; Red, White, Black and Yellow. It would later be revealed to coincide with their names; Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long.
Once the final trailer hit, it was announced that the premiere of the first episode would be held at the next RTX Event. Following the premiere, the series would be released on a weekly basis on Rooster Teeth’s YouTube channel and their own website. 7 seasons later, RWBY has proved to be a huge hit and has since become Rooster Teeth’s flagship series.
I first heard about RWBY when my friend showed it to me in college back in early 2014. Before heading to my first lesson early in the morning, he took out his phone and showed me this cool trailer of a cute girl killing demonic wolves with a scythe-gun. My jaw was on the floor and I was really impressed with it. He told me that it was part of this new anime series and that I should give it a watch. Unfortunately I never did, as I was busy with other anime and TV shows at the time.
Then 2 years later, tragedy struck. During one of our weekly sessions in our anime club, it was announced by my friend and leader of the club, that Monty Oum had unfortunately passed away. For the rest of the day, we dedicated ourselves to watching the original four trailers and some clips of Red vs Blue in his honour.
I was shocked to say the least, especially considering the fact that I wasn’t very familiar with his work at the time. But from watching glimpses of his work, I could tell that he had so much talent and passion and he was dedicated to leaving his mark on the world.
Fast forward a few years later into 2018, I was at my lowest point. I returned home to my parents and reconnected with my family again after a period of isolation. After a rough patch, which I’ll talk about another time, I was beginning to feel like myself again and it was on one faithful day that I decided to boot up YouTube and watch RWBY.
Not only did I love it, I was hooked! The characters, the storyline, the influences from fairy tales and mythology, the anime aesthetic, the fight scenes and the music. I loved it all and watching it brought back a creative spark in me that I didn’t feel in quite a long time. Throughout 2019, I was hit with new motivation to resume my own project; a novel series inspired by superheroes and mythology. Alongside that, I also delved deep into the RWBY fandom and discovered a whole host of amazing fan-content such as comics, fan art, cosplayers, fanmade music, AMVs and of course, fanfiction.
RWBY fanfiction really cemented my love for the series and it moved me how much fans looked up to Monty and his creation. Their expression of love through this medium was heartwarming, to say the least and their creative passion really shone through with their own alternate takes on RWBY lore. But at the same time, all the admiration I had was accompanied by guilt. I felt so horrible that I never looked to Monty Oum or watched RWBY much sooner and I if I could go back in time, I’d watch RWBY when it first started airing.
Even beyond the amazing fan content, I’ve also met great friends through this fandom and many of them on tumblr and Discord. We share ideas, theories and our own works because this series and the man who made it filled our hearts with joy.
So to Monty Oum, I thank you for creating such a wonderful series and inspiring me to get back into writing. Thank you for building a community where other creators can get together and share their works through you. Your legacy will live on, through us and through RWBY. My wish is to become a creator that’s just as talented, inspiring and amazing as you.
R.I.P Monty Oum. 1981-2015. We will carry on your spirit, as fans and as aspiring creators.
