How does one get assigned as sam coded / dean coded ? Do I need a doctors note ? A psych evaluation perhaps ?

#i keep going back and forth on it #bc i used to identify with dean for the longest time bc i was so repressed and emotionally closed off (+older sister) #and at that point id spent my youth very purposefully protecting my younger sibling from our dad #and i guess in my brain i paralleled that with dean staying behind with john while sam took off for stanford #and dean protecting sam from knowing too much abt the supernatural #BUT having grown up ive now become the one resentful and angry at our father while my sister protects him #and our fights remind me a lot of scenes from the show where im obviously identifying a lot stronger with sam #plus the whole thing abt being the families designated academic or whatever #while also feeling cursed from the minute i was born and crushing at the guilt of everything wrong with me #and trying to be a good person and saving others to make for the fact that i feel an intrinsic evilness about myself #so like... yeah sam is very very relatable too in that sense #bc he also has that hope in him- the belief in god. in angels. in goodness. and i have that too ! #im just also a miserable cynic at the same time :) #so ???? #i havent been in the fandom for long enough to know the full requirements of being a sam or dean girl #(and by that i mean i havent been in the fandom for long AFTER i rejoined from my 10 year hiatus) #i literally would love to read someones page long explanation of what sam coded vs dean coded entails #someone with a spn hyperfixation or special interest needs to provide me with the goods fr 😭 #spn

the real tragic part about the whole science fair incident is that perpetual motion is impossible to achieve

ford’s machine would have never worked, regardless of whether or not stan had interacted with it

#it’s also tragic because ford didn’t know #the impossibility of perpetual motion was discovered far before that point and yet he didn’t know #i mean. ‘he’s actually just so arrogant that he thought he could break the laws of physics’ doesn’t make any sense #his reaction to the situation really didn’t match that interpretation as far as i can tell #i don’t think it’s just a ‘oh no! my dream school (that i was essentially shoved into pursuing)!’ type deal #here’s what i’m thinking: #fact one- stan and ford were seemingly already drifting apart by this point in time. this is important to note #fact two- it’s really emphasized to him that he’s smart. that’s all they say about him really- that’s he’s a genius #fact three- filbrick does not even care enough about stanford to say his name. he calls ford his ‘ticket out of this dump’ #these last two points were likely heavily emphasized to him throughout his childhood #filbrick found out ford was smart and thought stan wasn’t. so ford became his plan to make money #ford is heavily bullied for his weirdness. his hands and his interests. being smart could ‘make up’ for this in his mind #he wants to leave. he outright states this- he doesn’t feel like he belongs and he wants to go somewhere he does (his own bermuda triangle) #so what essentially happened- i believe- is that ford internalized all these things #that his weirdness is bad and that he makes up for it by being smart and that he’s meant to make his family money- #-and that he wants out #his machine fails. this is a slap in the face to him. perpetual motion is impossible? #but why didn’t he know that? he’s supposed to be smart isn’t he? if he isn’t smart then what the hell is he? #what redeeming qualities does he have? how is he supposed to help his family now? he’s a failure isn’t he? #he spots a familiar bag. stan was here. suddenly he has an excuse- a reason to believe it wasn’t his fault #(and there’s really nothing to be at fault for but he doesn’t think that) #it’s easier to blame it on stan because of how distant they’ve grown. he can’t read stan as easily #and his reaction is suspicious- did he actually sabotage the project? is it…actually not ford’s fault at all? #they don’t speak to each other again for another decade #stan because he’s afraid of rejection #ford because he doesn’t want to face his own insecurities and emotions about everything #it’s easier to pretend that he wants to be famous and isn’t just doing it to make it his father money #and it’s easier to distract himself with things he loves than to feel all the guilt and hurt and frustration #and that. is perfect for bill to use to manipulate him #that’s my thoughts anyway. sorry for the rant was not expecting that to happen

there’s also the obvious dimension that well. dean’s whole life is built around this tiny family unit. him and john and sammy. even if it ruins him, even if it’s toxic and abusive and codependent, it’s who he is. it’s who all of them are!! then sammy leaves. sam leaving is selfish! not in a bad way, in a way where it’s an intensely brave act of self-preservation that must’ve required so much strength to pull off! but that idea of selfish as at all ever being good….... well. dean cant even comprehend that. not when he’s so thoroughly invested in this decades-long act of Dean Winchester, big brother and soldier son and surrogate wife. not when he feels like nothing and has no real sense of self at all. how dare sam be selfish etc etc is basically asking How dare sam even have/try to take ownership over his own identity and his life since when was that a thing that happened…….

ALSO i think a lot of people don't realize john's obsession with sam and resulting need to force a parental role on dean FOR sam's benefit is because he knows that Something wanted his infant son so bad that it MURDERED HIS WIFE for it. so not only does john have to think about how this monster killed his wife, he has to wonder for decades why it needs his baby that bad. plus i mean... again. what were his options with dean? drag one child out to face monsters and leave the other one alone when he can't even take care of himself? or have one kid look after the other... which is like. normal. that's something that normal parents in normal circumstances do when they have to work. like ofc it's not for weeks on end usually but seriously what was he supposed to do!!!!!! i get the john hate to a point (as anyone with a shitty dad does) but most of the time it just feels like people are projecting their oldest sibling qualms onto him without actually thinking 🤷‍♀️

The background on this one probably took the most time, which is unfortunate, since I did have to blur it out. Still, I'm incredibly happy with how this one turned out. The posing was exactly what I was aiming for, and I'm genuinely pleased with how the characters came out this time.
