okay so this might be the stupidest question ever but in my defense I am pretty stupid
I keep seeing these different workout routines for different goals on insta, so like there's hypertrophy, muscle growth and strength
but... isn't it all the same thing?? isn't hypertrophy your muscles getting bigger? and so getting stronger? and if you get stronger, doesn't that mean your muscles are growing?
I am so lost and confused
pls help king
I'm sure you're not stupid anon, give yourself some more credit! There's a shit ton of confusing info out there when it comes to fitness stuff, even I find myself occasionally reading a paper and being like ??? lmao
The answer from the training guide I use most often is kinda yes and kinda no lol, basically hypertrophy is what is gonna ultimately drive muscle growth - however it is possible to see muscle growth without comparative increases in strength at the same time. Typically workout routines that are aimed at increasing strength will have you lifting heavier weights.

I've been thinking about that post that's like hey don't think autism is destigmatized irl just because there's memes on this website about "my autism beam" or whatever and Ykw?? Guys, it's not even hard to see how much people still love dogging on autistic people for being "weird" all over the entire internet! Even on here!! A lot of people still see us as the people they're allowed to bully for no reason, and while I'm glad there's been some positive change over the years, we still need to work towards getting people to unpack why they think some people are ok targets, and how most of the time it's ableism.

hey king, how's it going today? did you see any cool snails walking around?
idk if you'll know this, but it's a fitness question and I thought maybe you might have an idea
I read up a fair bit on nerdfitness.com and started doing their bodyweight strength workout (and increase reps/difficulty as I go) and I've noticed my arms getting bigger and I know for abs to show, there's a lot of what you eat/how much calories you consume/spend etc that has to do with it. but for now I'm just trying to focus on my muscles getting bigger, and even tho I can feel my arms muscles getting bigger, I feel like with my abs, they are not progressing as fast in terms of the abs muscles growing.
idk, is this normal? like is it easier to grow arms muscles than abs muscles?
thank you
Hey there anon, ah I wish I could have seen some cool snails out and about today but I did see the chocolate guy make a giant snail out of chocolate on Instagram just a few min ago so that's already made my day!
With regards to your fitness question though, I honestly don't know whether it's necessarily inherently easier to grow any one muscle group over another. If you're doing the exact same number of exercises and reps for both areas, and the effort you're putting into both areas is getting you to that hypertrophy sweet spot, then what it may come down to is the percentage of body fat present in those areas.
From what ive read and in my own personal experience, as you burn body fat typically this has the visual effect of emphasizing the tone of the muscles in that area - but where your body is gonna torch fat from first depends mostly on genetics. So if your body is predisposed to want to burn fat from your arms before taking it from other locations, the loss of body fat in that area will tend to make those muscles stand out more visually.
Take this info with a grain of salt though, I'm by and large consulting from a body recomposition book I bought a couple months ago but I'm only about 3/4ths of the way through lol. The subject of whether one muscle group is truly easier to build up than another isn't one I've come across yet in my research, but the subject of the effect of body fat loss on muscle toning in different parts of the body has, so that's why I focused more on that angle for now. If I do find info out there that says otherwise though I'll definitely come back and update my answer!
