60 Years of Doctor Who Anniversary Marathon - T. Baker 1st Review
Disney Time - Behind the Scenes
Tumblr media
So for the Third Doctor we looked at trailers and promos for the show itself, well for the Fourth Doctor we’re looking at promotional material and advertisements for things that aren’t related to the show.
See Doctor Who is so popular that the series has been used to advertise various products, charities, PSAs, both for the UK and other countries, and even promote other IPs.
Which leads us to Disney Time.
Tumblr media
Disney Time was an annual special that ran in the UK from 1961 to 1998. And it was literally just one giant advert for Disney each and every year. It would show clips from it’s newly released or up coming movies, including recent re-releases and shorts, and promote it’s other tv shows.
Each year the segment was hosted by a celebrity who would provide linking segments and explain the context of the clips being shown. And in 1975 that celebrity was Doctor Who.
Not just Tom Baker, who played the Doctor, but the actual character of the Doctor, running around the theater proclaiming how great Disney is, how much he loves classic Disney characters like Donald Duck, and horribly mispronouncing Mowgli’s name.
The in universe explanation being that the Doctor is on vacation. Having just dropped off Harry and Sarah Jane back home at the end of Revenge of the Cybermen, he enjoys his holiday by going to the movies. At the end of his day off he gets a message from the Brigadier which is supposed to lead directly into Terror of the Zygons. So yeah, this is meant to be canon to the show.
youtube
The segment has never officially been released due to copyright, but mega fans with home recorders have kindly posted Tom Baker’s clips to youtube.
In order to watch the show as intended, I pulled up the missing clips off of Disney Plus and kept the Doctor Who linking clips up in another tab; switching between the two when needed.
To re-create the experience yourself, this is the line up.
To start everything off, you have
“The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” from Fantasia
The Doctor’s 1st clip
The Clock-cleaners (the short was edited down for the episode, but I don’t know where the cuts were made, so I just watched the entire short)
2nd Doctor clip
“Blackbeard drives a car and says fuck the police” from BlackBeard’s Ghost (the clip starts with Dean Jones and Blackbeard driving in the car and ends with Dean Jones getting handcuffed)
3rd Doctor Who clip
"Trust in Me" from The Jungle Book (clip starts with Kaa singing, and ends Kaa being pushed out of the tree by Mowgli. just end when the segment fades to black)
Back to the Doctor; 4th clip
“The hippopotamus segment” from The African Lion
5th  intro by the Doctor
“Theodore and Amos try to rob the bank” from The Apple Dumpling Gang (the segment starts with Theodore telling Amos his plan for using a rope to haul himself to the roof, it ends at the next scene with the Sheriff finding the two thieves tied up together in front of the vault. cut the scene before the trial starts)
6th clip for the Doctor
"The Beautiful Briny" from Bedknobs and Broomsticks (start with them meeting Mr. Cod and end as soon as they accept the trophy)
Another Doctor segment, the 7th clip
“A cougar attacks a child” from  Return of the Big Cat (This TV movie is on youtube not Disney+; and clips were actually shown out of order for the episode. first clip time stamp 41:52 to 43:53, and the second clip time stamp is 37:30 to 39:27)
 7th Doctor Who clip
“The puppets dancing” from Escape to Witch Mountain (the scene starts with the kids being stuck inside while it rains. they make the puppets come to life, the villains watch them from a hidden camera, next scene the children discuss running away)
8th Doctor who clip
“He’s a Tramp” from Lady and the Tramp (scene kicks off with Lady being brought into the pound, ends with the song ending)
Final Doctor Who clip
Tumblr media
Of course it’s Disney and Doctor Who, two my favorite things combined so I love it. THe best bits were the songs, but even the segments from ‘lesser’ films proved to be at least interesting given their context.
The Apple Dumpling and Escape to Witch Mountain were the big theatrical releases at the time, hence their inclusion.
BlackBeard’s Ghost, The African Lion, and Jungle Book were all getting planned releases that following year, and indeed the theater where this was filmed was playing Lady and the Tramp at the time. Which is why the episode ended on that segment in particular.
But most interesting of all was the Return of the Big Cat segment. A movie that I didn’t even knew existed until this marathon.
It’s not a theatrical release, but rather a made for tv movie that was created for Disney’s anthology show The Wonderful World of Color.
Disney made original tv movies from time to time for his anthology and they’re basically the prototype for the Disney Channel Original Movies that I grew up on. With about the same level of quality too.
Tumblr media
With new Doctor Who coming to Disney Plus soon, this was a fun look in that I wouldn’t mind revisiting again. Especially since I know where the clips actually begin and end. It took a while to figure that part out.

Suzume: Preparation for the Gospel
I place this in Mary's hands for her to bring to Jesus
Mark 15:16 “And He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the Gospel to the whole creation.’”
Tumblr media
First, for those who haven’t seen the movie
a.) Background: Suzume is a 2023 anime movie written and directed by Makoto Shinkai. While it’s his third collaboration with musicians Kazuma Jinnouchi and the Radwimps, if my research is correct, it’s his 7th feature film. In other words, he’s no stranger to movie making. If you haven’t seen it or Shinkai’s other films, I’d say it’s worth a watch here’s the trailer.
b.) SPOILERS, it’s the nature of an analysis, nothing personal. If you don’t want them then go watch the movie.
c.) Premise: Like many of Shinkai’s other movies, Suzume adds a supernatural layer onto your average adolescent story. In this case, it’s an evil spirit called “the worm” that lives under Japan. Whenever it breaks into our world through certain portals – called “doors” – it causes devastating earthquakes. These doors are usually located in abandoned urban areas, e.g. the entrance door for a shutdown school, or the door of a Ferris wheel carriage at an abandoned theme park. Thankfully these gates have been kept shut throughout the centuries by a group of “Closers” who travel throughout the country shutting any gates that may pop up. Par for the course this “closing” takes the form of a spell and then using a physical key to close the door.
Our heroine, Suzume, starts the movie by unknowingly removing one of the two keystones in Japan that help keep the worm from entering our world. Luckily a young Closer, named Souta, has come to town just in time to help her closer the door. The keystone, called Daijin – a spiritual creature in the form of a cat – decides Suzume has given him a vacation, and after turning Souta into a chair and deeming him the new keystone, our feline friend takes his leave.
The rest of the movie is Suzume and Souta traveling across country to close more doors, return Souta to a human state, and get Daijin to return to his post as a keystone.
Tumblr media
Freed from Keystone duty, Daijin takes the form of a mischievous kitten.
Second, what’s our take on all this?
Seems pretty pagan, isn’t this a Christian analysis Mr. Blogger?
Of course! And as you’ll all recall Vatican II states that “Whatever good or truth is found amongst them [those who have not yet arrived at an explicit knowledge of God] is looked upon by the Church as a preparation for the Gospel” (Lumen Gentium 16). Neither is this anything new since the phrase preparation evangelica comes down to us from Eusebius writing in the 4th century.
So how does Suzume fit into this?
I suggest the events of Suzume mirror key points of salvation history and thus prepare viewers to understand the Gospel. AND I HAVE MANY EXAMPLES!!
Tumblr media
St. Paul preaching at Athens appealed to the mindset of his listeners. There weren’t many converts but that’s more from there own complacency than his own method.
Gospel Parallels
a. Need for a Savior
Halfway through the movie – once Suzume and Souta have gained the assistance of the other keystone guardian, named Sadaijin – we are offered this reason for all the trouble they’re going through: “to set right what has been wronged by human hands.” But what we later find out is that Suzume and Souta aren’t enough by themselves to resolve the keystone issue. They need help, and it needs to be spiritual a.k.a. divine. This is a great way to highlight the fittingness of the incarnation. Man needed to make reparation to God for his original sin, yet man was also incapable of doing precisely that. Thus, God became man so that He might do what we ourselves couldn’t do.
b. Willing self-sacrifice
Especially poignant to the story is Souta realizing he’s become the new keystone and he’ll be deprived of his human life to remained forever a keystone guardian against the worm. While you could view Souta’s sacrifice as a Christ-like one, I don’t think that does justice to the rest of the movie. His sacrifice is noted, especially by his grandfather, but it’s also pointed out that he didn’t actively will to be a keystone. Instead, he merely resigned himself to the role Daijin forced on him. The key here – no pun intended – is that it is only when Suzume proclaims that she’ll willingly offer herself up as a keystone in place of Souta that Daijin changes his mind, helps free Souta, and takes up his role as keystone once again.
This helps viewers understand that Jesus’s Passion wasn’t simply a matter of gritting His teeth and accepting divine punishment from His Father. Rather, Jesus willingly offers Himself out of love. Christ is very explicit about this when He says: “No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again” (Jn 10:18).
Tumblr media
It was in the context of the last supper, at the beginning of His Passion, that Jesus taught his disciples what self-gift, i.e. what true love of God and neighbor is.
c. Nature and Grace
Related to this previous point is how Daijin agrees to help Suzume after she explicitly expresses her willingness to be a keystone in place of Souta. Curiously enough, Daijin doesn’t force Suzume to keep this promise. He doesn’t even mention it. He simply responds by to it by helping her free Souta. The Gospel parallel is this: God doesn’t simply override our wills to accomplish His plan, but desires to work with us.
Another example of this mystery is how at the beginning of the movie both Suzume and Souta think Daijin is running around opening doors for the worm, but in actuality he is guiding them towards the open doors so that they can close them. He’s trying to call them to a greater service but they don’t understand and so think he’s mischievous and malevolent. Does this not call to mind God’s words in Isaiah “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways” (Is 55:8).
d. Acts of Prayer
The formula that Souta recites to close a door references the hills and rivers of the land as gifts from the gods and how people have enjoyed life on this land but now the Closer offers those all back to the gods. Acknowledging that everything in life is a gift is not just a Christian notion, although Paul clearly articulates it one (1 Cor 4:7 What do you have that you did not receive?)But going beyond our life being a gift from God this formula shows how we are called to offer everything back to our Creator not because He’s greedy and demands it but because it helps us – in the movie it literally keeps a destructive spirit out of our life!) What comes to my mind are the beautiful words of one of the Prefaces for Mass: “For, although you have no need of our praise, yet our thanksgiving is itself your gift, since our praises add nothing to your greatness but profit us for salvation, through Christ our Lord.”
Tumblr media
Suzume, having learned from Suota how to close a door, activates the key in her hand. If this looks intense, then know that prayer is just the same since by it we fight against the evil spirits who seek the damnation of souls.
e. Healing of memory
Finally if I can offer a more affective example it’s when Suzume meets her younger self and we finally see her internal resolution to all the emotional trauma she’s been dealing with. But I would argue this is done in an incarnational way. It’s not just don’t mentally. The movie doesn’t just have her visit here old house, or find her old notebooks. It doesn’t even pretend she’s talking to herself in her mind. It has her literally going back in time and meeting her younger self (I did say Shinkai was a fan of this stuff).
Nowadays, it’s very common for people to openly talk about their trauma, but often it’s presented as something that can’t be overcome. But this isn’t the Christian approach. Rather, it is precisely by allowing Christ to be King over all parts of our life – as well as all parts of our past – that we are no longer under the terror or fear of what has happened to us. And this isn’t accomplished by just imposing principles anachronistically. Instead, it’s by finding where and how Christ is working in that moment just as little Suzume actually encounters her older self on that cold snowy night.
Final verdict?
To close, I’ll once again recommend Suzume, but more importantly I encourage you to think about any connections you see in our culture that point to our life of faith in Christ. Don’t be afraid of being too geeky by talking about these things with friends – with respect to time and place of course e.g. not in the delivery room. My point is until we act as if our Christian faith has an influence on how we read, watch, and listen to the world around us, then we won’t have the influence on the world that we should as Christians.
Tumblr media
One of the reasons why Mary was so effective in converting the Mexican people is that every part of her dress pointed to some native symbolism which informed the Mexican people of her role and status as the mother of God.

independence day (1996) liveblog part 1
Tumblr media
it’s the 4th of july in America which honestly creates mixed feelings for me. I love America, but it doesn’t so much love me, my nearest and dearest, or people like me. My family always watches one movie on the 4th, which is Independence Day (1996).
immediate thoughts on this movie:
I think this is a genuinely good movie that encapsulates 1990s America
Will Smith, national treasure and publicly polyamorous/open which means a lot to me as a polyam person
Jeff Goldblum, national treasure and playing a sad divorced environmentalist nerd
Bill Pullman (hot)
all kinds of representation of women
there is a golden retriever (lab?? idk)
aliens
catchy lines you will repeat until you die
I’ve probably watched it 31 times or more in my life
Tumblr media
Women rly used to wear makeup like this. It’s a look?!?! God the soft, brown, muted tones. I was taught if you wear a bold eye you can’t wear a bold lip. The hair is quintessential 1990s blowout too. I bet this woman knew exactly what her makeup color “season” was/is
Tumblr media
whatever happened to curtains like that?? they only exist now if they are permanently dusty. Also Bill Pullman: still hot. That scratchy voice!
Tumblr media
“What are you waiting for...my social security will expire, you’ll still be sitting there.” Jeff Goldblum’s Dad in this 🤣 also nothing more quintessential American than old people playing chess in the park by the NYC skyline
Tumblr media
This movie also has another treasure Harvey Fierstein (great voice, voiced Yao in Mulan)
Tumblr media
the other thing this movie rly succeeds at is showing all the different ways Americans live, like LA to trailers in rural CA to Washington DC to NYC
Tumblr media
*aggressively hits item to fix it****
Tumblr media
truly nothing more American than living in a trailer
Tumblr media
another mainstay of American culture: unexamined alcoholism
Tumblr media
babes that’s my hometown!
Tumblr media
pls explain to my millennial ass how this look came back around (center part)
Tumblr media
this chick is so hot and powerful. into it. I forgot she’s Jeff Goldblum’s ex (he’s still wearing her ring three years after they broke up)
Tumblr media
alien spaceship darkness falling over LA
Tumblr media
this kid is way too cute. The child actors who played in this are all grown up which I don’t know why this surprises me since they are only slightly older than me. The President’s daughter is also Mae Whitman which is an inexplicable mindfuck I never noticed
Tumblr media
motifs in this movie: dolphins (the bottle of perfume). also lmao at the dialogue in this scene Will Smith asks “it’s an earthquake?” and Vivica A. Fox says “not even a 4 pointer go back to sleep” A++++
Tumblr media
i s2g every disaster movie has the statue of liberty defiled or darkened in some way i love american iconography tbh
Tumblr media
Will Smith so young in this Vivica A. Fox so pretty. Also motif continued: dolphin earrings
Tumblr media
kiddo fighting aliens
Tumblr media
motif: dolphins on left
Tumblr media
extremely american images
Tumblr media
adore how this First Lady looks, she could not look more “90s First Lady” esque
Tumblr media
“Once again the LAPD is asking Los Angelinos not to fire their guns at the visitor spacecraft. You may inadvertently trigger an interstellar war.”
Tumblr media
Jasmine’s wedding ring 😭
Tumblr media
forgot there’s like an accidental gay “confusion” scene played for laughs but the witnessing guy just smiles puts his hands up and walks away...pretty ok tier for DADT era
tbc!!!

'Ripley is a new limited series that’s coming to Netflix. What’s it about?
Just recently, I referenced The Talented Mr. Ripley – but really I mention it all the time as it’s absolutely brilliant...
…I caught a movie called The Talented Mr. Ripley in the theater. I had no background on the (also excellent) novel by Patricia Highsmith at the time, and so I was completely taken with the dark and stylish tale of a young, troubled con artist named Tom Ripley (Matt Damon, in one of his best ever performances) and his obsession with a spoiled, debonair young man named Dickie Greenleaf (Jude Law). Gwyneth Paltrow, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Law are also incredible in it.
The Talented Mr. Ripley takes place in late 1950s Italy – 1958, in fact, one year before the release of Mingus Ah Um – and the film just looks spectacular, like it’s been generated in a genAI/ChatGPT/Holodeck thing for “make late 1950s Italy look like absolute heaven” engineering prompt.
And then, the music! There’s a tactile feel to the vinyl records that appear in the film, as the names of jazz giants are thrown around and also appear on album covers: Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis.
So therefore, I was all kinds of interested to learn that that there will be a new version of this story coming to Netflix, told by way of a limited series called Ripley. It stars Andrew Scott (the “hot priest” of Fleabag fame) as the titular Tom Ripley, Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf, and Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood.
To say the least, Ripley has a very high bar to pass to surpass the greatness of the film. Beyond what I mention above, the movie version boasts some of the best performances that Damon, Paltrow, Law, and Hoffman have ever given.
The Ripley trailer looks visually interesting, but it seems to lack the cool stylishness of the film, directed by Anthony Minghella. And while there’s no doubt that Andrew Scott is a great actor, I find the glimpses we get of him in the trailer to be somewhat concerning. He comes off more like an enigmatic serial killing weirdo and much less like the charming yet confused, vulnerable yet dangerous masterclass that Matt Damon puts on.
Now, that being said, I’m going to watch the hell out of every episode of this thing, and I’m hoping that I’ll be happily surprised on route.
A few other interesting tidbits:
* The IMDB page for Ripley says that this version of the story takes place in the 1960s, versus the ’50s-set film. Not sure why they updated the setting slightly, and then also obviously made a bold choice to film it in black-and-white (perhaps to clearly differentiate it from the breathtaking and splashy color of 1950s Italy we get from The Talented Mr. Ripley). * Johnny Flynn, who plays Dickie Greenleaf (Jude Law’s role in the film), is absolutely spectacular in a romcom TV show called Lovesick (in fact it’s #38 on Pop Thruster’s Best 100 TV Shows Ever). We barely see Flynn in the trailer, so I’m super curious and yet somewhat concerned about the casting here as well.
Ripley: when and where can I watch it?
Ripley will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, April 4th, 2024. The limited series comprises eight episodes.'

The Kung Fu Panda series is one if not my favorite animated film series of all time. The former trilogy started, maintained, and finished strong. The majority of those that watched these films have said that Kung Fu Panda finished its story of Po (the panda) with the third Kung Fu Panda film, it perfectly captured Po’s battle with his mind, body, and spirit. So the 4th film’s trailer was released 6 days ago on the 13th of December and it’s concerning…
This new trailer is not living up to its predecessors, but I this is a great opportunity for me to express my film situated opinion on this matter.
Of course the film is not out yet so it would seen a bit premature to judge the movie so harshly, but I feel that even though its just a trailer there are things that are just off with what I see. First problem is the writing, the story/plot in this film is this— Po(main character) journeys through china looking for a successor to the title dragon warrior, while the main threat of the film is the “chameleon” a character described as a villain that can shapeshifter into the franchise’s previous villain (which is too similar to the last films’s villain), inevitably defeating them and passing on the mantle of dragon warrior. Putting aside the fact that the third film perfectly capped off Po’s progression as a character indicating that there was no longer a need for any other films to be made, this new films plot seems uncreative and unnecessary. Not only it rehashes themes from previous films, villains, setting, etc., but the plot of ‘passing on the mantle’ didn’t personally seem important to po’s character because HE IS THE DEFINITIVE “DRAGON WARRIOR”. Although this is more of a personal problem I have with the film’s trailer, I still should expect some substance to come out of the dragon warriors passing of the mantle. The franchise also intends to make several other films after this one i find it would hard to get people into theaters if the main character is not the dragon warrior, its like going to see captain America but the catch is he has no shield or spandex red white and blue suit. Last note, the writing seems a bit more childish than it should be. Albeit, the last film had childlike humor which was unusual for the franchise because past films used family humor (humor that is funny to all audiences), but this forth film seems like the writers pushed the childlike tendencies up to 11, fart jokes can only take you so far before there not funny to everyone.
A minor opinion that is overall unrelated to the trailer is that the casting of Awkwafina is honestly a strange choice to me. In the film she is supposed to be in a way the comedic relief character, but I personally have never known her to be funny. Also Mike Mitchell and Stephanie Stine are directing the film and judging off their previous works and their themes, this films witty grounded-ness is not going to be salvaged.
Lastly, the films character design is all over the place. The absence of Nico Martlet is really felt in the character design department. Everyone including old and new characters look off, there’s a certain dryness to the characters and even the lighting and setting. Although the lighting and setting aren’t really that big of a problem the character design is. An example of this would be the new characters Zhen (Awkwafina) and the Chameleon (Viola Davis) their designs aren’t congruent with the mass of other characters designs. Zhen’s character is just a grey fox with no striking shapes or markings which is integral to majority to the franchise’s character catalog and the chameleons character, although better than the new hero Zhen, does not match the style of the lizards in the franchise altogether making both of them look out of place. What made the first and second film’s characters so striking is the emphasis put on shapes, Po is a big circle, Tigress is a rectangle, tai lung is a triangle, Lord Shen (although an amalgamation of different shapes) is a big flowing line or S-curve. These shapes help get across what feeling those characters personalities, while the new characters don’t give me an impact in this upcoming film.

Darkish! Scott Evans. This is not proofread!
A/N: @lovebittenbyevans gave me a great idea about still dealing with Chris when commenting on The One.  I thought that the Chris in that fic could really go left and get pretty Dark and dirty. And then....
Anonymous asked:
Imagine Chris cheating on Y/N …
That made me think up this fic. It is a sequel to The One. I hope you like it!
-----
You left him.
You flew to Montreal to surprise him on set, trench coat and lingerie and everything, and when you opened the door to his trailer, you saw Heidi on her knees giving Chris a blowjob.
You cussed him out, threw the ring back in his face and turned around and left.
You blocked his number, moved out of his house and cut off all contact.  You were done.
The audacity of Chris being indignant about your warnings about Heidi when he was boning her all along.
You loved Scott, but you had to cut him off too after he tried to explain that Chris was drunk when you found him, and was going to rehab to deal with his issues.
It was classic celebrity bullshit and you didn’t have time for it.
You decided to center yourself, and swear off all relationships and sex. You wanted to purge your mind of all that weighed you down.
You concluded that love, sex, and Chris Evans made you feel heavy as fuck.
You moved to New York City. It was far enough away from Chris and your folks in Houston to give you some peace.
You could still run your business and even think about a storefront.  It was the perfect location to live your best life, eat healthy, exercise, socialize and network.
You fell in love with yourself, and you didn’t think much about Christopher Robert Evans at all.
Only every time you went on IG or Twitter, even though you blocked him and his hashtags.  And every time you went to Target, because his fucking movies and merchandise were everywhere.
But you were cool, because you were doing you. You weren’t looking for love.
Of course, that’s when it found you.
Six months after you left Boston, you were at a natural beauty products expo in Brooklyn hawking your wares.
Your business had taken off, with almost a half million dollars in sales, and you were being interviewed by a major news outlet of color when one of the correspondents caught your eye.
You flirted, exchanged numbers and ended up going on a date. In another three months you were engaged to him.
Kevin Watts made you feel safe, protected and loved. And he wasn’t just after sex. He was well off, and secure in himself and you.  It just felt right.
When Kevin proposed, it was just you and him at your favorite restaurant. So romantic.
Not like the rowdy family 4th of July party at which Chris asked you to marry him last year, in front of both your parents.
The laughter and the joy was just a little much.
This was perfect. You didn’t miss Chris at all. You set about planning your wedding with a profound sense of peace and safety.
You and Kevin were meant to be.
----
Chris was nothing without you.
Nothing but an award winning actor and producer, a multi-millionaire and founder of a major organization dedicated to bringing opposing political viewpoints together.
All of that was cool, and it kept him going, but when he lost you, he lost his motivation.
Chris didn’t take any more roles after the sequel with Heidi, and he dumped her post haste. He did enter rehab and realized that he depended way too much on alcohol to dull his emotions.
He got drunk off his ass when he was away from you because he missed you so much, and that led to him letting Heidi think that she could have him.
She’d had him physically, but never his heart. Or his mind. You owned those.
Chris followed your business closely, and was proud of your success.
Of course he followed your social media on burner accounts and saw that you were doing well.
You looked like you enjoyed being single and seemed healthy and happy.
He couldn’t ask for anything more for you.
Except to be his again.
Chris was just biding his time for your reunion, deciding to give you a year before he made his move.
Now he felt every emotion, and he knew that you must still love him too.
You just needed to realize that your life would be even better with him back in it.
The year apart would be just punishment for what he’d done to you, and when you came back together, it would be better than before.
Everyone speculated on his bachelorhood, wondering if he would settle down, speculating and gossiping about who he was with, but he just played coy and kept quiet.
No one would know that he was yours and yours alone, and that you were still his.
You just didn’t know it.
But you weren’t going along with the plan that you didn’t know about.
About seven months into his self-imposed purgatory, a complication started popping up on Chris’s feed.
Kevin.
And a couple of months after that, a post of a proposal, in a restaurant.
The asshole probably didn’t even ask or involve your folks.  Chris was in a rage for a week.
He almost started drinking again, but as he got ready to drive to the liquor store, Kevin’s face flashed on his screen doing a report on the election.
Instead of making him even more angry, he smiled, elated at the thought that came to him.
Chris had a new plan, and it was going to be even better than before.
-----
The last three months had been a whirlwind, and you never thought it would turn out this way.
You were planning your wedding with your mother, discussing the seating at the reception, and you deciding where Chris Evans and his date would sit.
What a time to be alive.
Your mother only let it slip a couple of times that you should be marrying Chris, but for the most part, she kept it cute.
You explained to her that everything was squashed between you and Chris, and that he and Kevin had a great relationship, were friends, even.
They’d bonded over politics when Kevin interviewed him, and became buds before Chris even realized that you and he were together.
Kevin knew, but he wasn’t the jealous type, and he didn’t want to make things awkward. Surprisingly, Kevin insisted that he be at the wedding.
You thought about it and decided it would be the ultimate closure for Chris to watch you marry someone else.
You were pleasantly surprised at Chris. He was handling this very well. He never tried to contact you, and according to Kevin, never even mentioned you. That was growth.
Maybe you too could be friends.
You felt good about it. So much so that you unblocked him and started a dialogue.
-----
Hi.
Chris saw your number come across his apple watch and he practically did a dance. It was 9:24 pm.  He picked up his phone and stared at the word, forcing himself to wait and not respond.  He went to work out.
47 minutes later, he responded.
Hello?
This time, he sat and waited for your response, which came 7 minutes later.
I just wanted to say, I appreciate the way you're handling this.
Chris bit his lip, imagining you sitting there, thinking of what to say and staring down at your phone.
I’m sorry, I don't know who this is. You may have reached a wrong number?
He grinned at the play.
-----
Your heart dropped. Did he no longer have your contact?
Why would he do that?
You don’t know why you felt some kinda way; you’d blocked him.
Maybe he had changed his number and this was no longer his. Your heart was beating fast when you texted back.
Is this Chris?  This is Y/N.  I was just texting about Kevin Watts.
You anxiously watched the thought bubbles on imessage.
----
Even though you’d texted back almost immediately, Chris kept you hanging for just a couple of minutes. His dick was hard at the thought of communicating with you.
Fuck, you were such an aphrodesiac.
Oh shit! Y/N I’m sorry.  I got a new phone.. You know how it is…
He knew you wouldn’t believe that. That’s why he said it.
You just stared at the phone. That was bullshit. You can easily port your contacts into a new phone.  You just never believed that Chris would really move on.  And you didn’t know why.
You had.
You took a deep breath and continued.
Lol, No worries!  Just wanna say thank you for being cool with my Boo. I’m gonna turn in now. Check you later.
You tried to keep it light.
Chris ignored the ‘my Boo’ comment and focused on the thought of you in bed.
You usually slept in a tank top or t-shirt and panties, and the top would invariably come off because you got hot.
And then things would invariably get hotter if he was in bed with you….
Cool! Sweet dreams. Check you later. 😉
Chris made sure to exit your message thread and come back so that you wouldn’t see the thought bubbles that he saw when you kept staring at the text.
You  were lost in the times that Chris always used to say that to you, and when he whispered “Sweet Dreams” in your ear when he was far away, you always had wet dreams about him.
And that wink.
How could a fucking yellow emoji turn you the fuck on?
You reached for your bullet vibrator as you continued to stare at the interaction.
Chis had already started stroking himself when you told him you were going to bed.
Knowing that you were thinking exactly what he wanted you to got him close, and he didn’t even have to pull up your old videos to get off.
Not tonight.
-----
Over the next few weeks. you’d texted a few times, Chris ‘made amends’ and you accepted his apology.
Then, you started texting more regularly, mainly joking around about sports, your Celtics/Rockets rivalry ever raging.
From your perspective, Chris was always appropriate and respected your relationship with Kevin.  You were glad because you’d missed your friendship with him.
You felt giddy that your life was working out so well, and you traveled to your weekend getaway in the mountains for your bridal shower with a light heart.
Chris attended Kevin’s bachelor festivities with only a week to go until the wedding.
——
From Chris’s perspective, things were working out better than he’d hoped.
Scoring an invite to the wedding was more than he’d imagined, and Kevin inviting him out to his Bachelor party was just icing on the cake.
Maybe he could make Kevin slip up enough so that you would dump him before the wedding. Chris was hopeful.
If not, Plan B was the nuclear option.
-------
Kevin was following the stripper’s ass like a puppy. He was lit on booze and pills (that Chris provided) and his guard was down.
Kevin considered Chris a friend.
Chris just wanted to keep Kevin close because he was the enemy.
They were talking about you.
“She’s so fucking innocent. A sweeter angel there never was. I’ll have to teach her how to fuck.”
Chris almost choked on his water.
“I'm sorry. What now?”
Kevin just barreled on, ignoring the question.
“That's how I know I need to wife her.” He was talking to Chris, but still staring at the stripper.
“She would never chase the D. Hell, she won’t even touch mine. You know, her being celibate and all.”
Chris raised his eyebrow and smiled, which Kevin never noticed. Chris shook his head at your antics.  His little beautiful love.
“That’s why I was never pressed that you are her ex. I mean, I’m impressed you were with her as long as you were.”
Chris just smiled and nodded, curious as to where this was leading.
“A man like you don’t have to put up with that. You must have punani lined up for days, bro.”
Chris’s heart lept. This dullard did not have access to your pussy. HIS pussy.  Never has.
Chris could fuck a lot of people a million ways from Sunday with one text. Except for you. And you were all that mattered.
“I don’t know about all that.” Chris put on his best, ‘aw shucks’ act.
Chris was over the moon. You were still his. In every way.
Kevin kept tipping the stripper and was trying to call her over. He asked her about a private lap dance.  Chris’s eyes lit up. This asshole was making it too easy.
The stripper nodded and went back to finish up her set.  Chris walked over to the bar.
“Aye!” Chris summoned tha bartender over.
“What can I get you, Sir.”
“I don’t need a drink.  I wanna take care of my friend over there. He’s gonna have a lap dance with Star. It’s his bachelor party.  I need it to be extra special.”
Chris started peeling off hundreds so the barkeep could see.
“And I need him to have some keepsakes, so he’ll remember it always.”
More hundreds came off. The bartender’s eyes got bigger and bigger. “That’s no problem.”
Chris flashed his famous smile.
“Great, let me tell you where to send them. Wanna make them a wedding present.” He wrote down an address on a napkin.
He was now on Plan C. And it was perfect.
------
A week later and the rehearsal at the church was more fun than you thought it would be.  You weren’t allowed to participate, just watch, as the result of an old wives tale.
The church secretary found you in the pews. She handed you a manila envelope.
“This was mailed here yesterday, probably an invoice of something for the wedding, I put it aside for you, sweetie.”
You smiled back at her and tucked it into your purse, not wanting to distract yourself with more wedding bills.
Later, when you and Kevin were in the back of the car to the restaurant for the Rehearsal Dinner, you pulled it out and opened it. You couldn’t believe your eyes.
“What the ENTIRE FUCK KEVIN!”
You threw the pictures of him fucking a stripper in his face, startling him out of staring at his phone.
He picked one up, his mouth dropped open and started talking.
“Look, Baby, Baby! I can explain!...”
“DO NOT FUCKING LIE TO ME KEVIN!  WE HAVE OVER 300 PEOPLE HERE FOR OUR WEDDING TOMORROW MORNING.”
Kevin was on his knees in the back of the suburban.
“Listen to me.. Listen.  I’m a man. I have needs…”
“Kevin, I swear to god….”
“Okay, okay… I admit it…”
You listened to him and your heart went silent.  You couldn’t even absorb what he said.
When you pulled up to the restaurant, you straightened your dress and looked at him coolly.
“I am NOT going to deal with this tonight. Tonight was supposed to be a fun celebration of our wedding. I will decide later if it's still going to happen.”
Kevin was terrified.
“Right now, you and I will go into this place, greet our friends arm in arm and pretend that you are not a fucking narcissitic asshole who just ripped my heart to shreds. Got it?”
“Yes, but I-”
“Do NOT speak to me unless I speak to you first. Or it's automatically off.”
Kevin just nodded and cleared his throat.
You raised your chin and said, “Let’s go.”
-----
Two hours later, dinner was over, and you were lit on your way to TURNT.
Chris observed you, from the moment you entered holding hands with Kevin to the second you dropped his hand in disgust, to the way you held yourself away from him at dinner, but then put on a sweet face when everyone spoke, to Kevin, who was an absolute mess.
He figured you got the pictures. He suppressed the glee that was coursing through him.
But he couldn’t figure out why you were still going on with the charade.
Chris didn’t make a beeline for you like he wanted to, he just let the natural flow of the party lead you to him.  He was talking to your cousin when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around.
“Hey you.”
You cocked your head at him in that way and looked up at him, your smile brightening your face.  Damn, he had to plant his feet. You smiling at him like that made him feel faint.
You both heard your cousin say something, but you didn’t pay attention, caught up in your own orbit.
“Hey.”
Chris crossed his arms, and you swore that he was recalling the time when you told him your forearms made you horny. Fuck. Chris made you wet and you were fresh out of fucks tonight.
“So, I can’t have a hug?”
Chris shook his head at your line and opened his arms to embrace you, keeping a respectable pressure and distance until you hugged him tight and pressed close.
He couldn’t help but pick you up, but he put you down immediately, cleared his throat and backed up, looking uncomfortable.
That wouldn’t do. You wanted more of his scent, his warmth, his HIM. You pouted unconsciously in your buzzed state.
Chris’s cock stirred.  That fucking mouth had haunted his dreams for almost a year. He was pleased that you were flirting, but he had to work the plan.  Couldn’t go too fast.
“You look… great.  I can’t wait to see you tomorrow in your wedding dress. You will be a beautiful bride.”
Chris broke his voice in just the right place to convey a wistfulness, making you think that he thought he lost you.
You felt bad.  Chris was so sweet.  You thought about him and you thought about Kevin.
What was the difference between what Chris did and what Kevin did?
And who did you have more chemistry with? Chris.
Why were you even marrying Kevin?
You looked over at him looking at you and Chris like a lost dog.
You had no idea why you were marrying him.
“You look… Like Chris fucking Evans.” You two laughed.
“I bet you’re fighting them off with a stick.”  You sideyed him.
Chris reveled in your interest in his sex life.
“Well, you know. After rehab, I’ve laid off the... physical part of my life. It only brought chaos, you know. I’m trying to be more… zen. Haven’t really had… that  for the better part of a year.”
He watched your eyes get big.
“Word?”  You smirked. “So you…”
Chris held up his hand.  The one you knew he jacked off with.  You grabbed it and started drawing on his palm.  Chis pulled it back and cleared his throat again.
You pouted again. Him being hard to get made you wet.
And Chris knew that.
“So… you ready to marry the love of your life?”
Chris’s sea blues looked you deep into your cocoa browns. You were transported back in time.
“Yes.”
Then you snapped out of it.
“I mean… the church is set up, the dress is bought, everyone’s here. I guess so.”
Chris laughed as if you were telling a joke.
“I miss your sense of humor.”
You all made small talk and you caught up a little before you asked what you wanted to know.
“So what are you up to tonight?”
Chris looked at his watch.
“I’m actually about to go to my condo an turn in. I get up early to work out.” He felt your eyes sweep up and down his body, and he flexed even though he was fully dressed. It was true. Working out was a regimen. He wanted you drooling for him.
“It’s the Marvel condo in Brooklyn?”
You nodded, remembering good times.
“So you have a car picking you up?”  Your mind was whirring.
“I actually have a rental.”
You gulped your drink down, not daring to look in his eyes. Now, not only was your pussy wet, your nipples were hard as hell.
“It’s in the parking garage down the block.”
“Well, I need to clear my head. I’ll walk you there, and you can drop me back?”
Chris looked down at your cute face, and then around the room, spotted Kevin and gave him a nod.
“You sure that’s a good idea?”
You looked at Kevin, too.  You wanted to stick your tongue out, but you just took Chris by the arm and headed toward the door.
“I’m a big girl. Nobody owns me.”
You looked up into Chris’s eyes and instantly regretted that statement. You played it off and pulled him through the door.
You didn’t talk at all the entire way, both of your heads deep in the clouds of you and him.  The chemistry was crackling the air between you.
You held on to his arm, and he let you, reveling in your touch.
When you reached the parking garage, Chris pressed the button with his knuckle and you got in, headed for the top deck.
You just stared at each other, both thinking the same thing. Chris chuckled.
“You’re dangerous, night before your wedding, you probably have cold feet, I’m here. Maybe you want to be sure that you’re sure…”
You cocked your head. “Who said I wanted to fuck you, Chris Evans?”
Chris cocked his head too, mirroring you.  “Who said ‘fuck?’ I was thinking you wanted to talk.”
He smirked and you scowled as the door opened.
Chris left you in the elevator stewing as he walked over to the black Tesla he’d rented. There was no other car on the deck.
You scoffed, and followed him out.
He was about to walk around to the driver's side door when you grabbed his arm before he made it. He stopped directly in front of the car.
“Do you mean to tell me that you don’t want me?”  You were hot, in more ways than one.
Chris leaned back against the hood.
“That’s not what we’re talking about, y/n. You’re getting married tomorrow. To someone else.”
You smiled and reached up, fingers grazing his neck and playing with the hair at his nape. You ran your fingers through his beard.  Kevin’s couldn’t compare.
“That’s tomorrow. Tonight I’m single as fuck.”
You stood on your tip toes and brushed your lips against his, reveling in the moan that came from his throat.
Chris fought to control his urge and continued with his act. His fingers tightened around your waist and you thought this was it.  He turned you around in front of the car and then let you go, stepping back to pace back and forth.
“What? What is this? You’ve had almost a year. Kevin’s my friend. What do you want from me?”
He advanced on you, and you had to remember to breathe.  He knew what you wanted.
“You. I want you, Chris.”
Chris attacked your lips with his own.  He took two seconds to savor them before he ravaged your mouth with his tongue.  You moaned and he broke from your mouth to re-discover your face, your neck, your cleavage.  He had to control himself not to rip the bodice of your blush pink chiffon dress.
He had a raging hard on, which you were feeling up, remembering how you always struggled to take him.  You wanted him to hurt you with it now.
“Give me this Chris… please…”
You were reaching into his pants, thumb caressing his wet, thick tip. He was leaking for you.
“Remember when you told me that I would meet you in a parking lot, and let you fuck me over the hood of your rental car? Even if I was with someone else?”
You pulled your hand out and started sucking your thumb, closing your eyes at the taste of Chris after so long.  You pulled it out with a pop.
“You were so right.”
Chris practically growled, grabbed your arm and spun you, pushing your back until your chest hit the hood of the Model X.  He leaned over you, pushing his covered crotch into the back of your dress, you moaned, wanting more.  His mouth was at your ear.
“Oh, so you want to be my cock whore on the eve of your wedding to someone else.”  You moaned because it was true.
“It’s been so long, Chris…”
He reached down in between you and flipped the flouncy skirt of your dress up, exposing you to the wind of New York City.  He looked at it for a minute, your ass always his favorite.
He caressed it with both hands, pressing into you with his thumbs.
“So you want me to feel you up?”  He pulled his hand back and sucked one of them, practically jumping for joy when he tasted you.
“You want me to pull your panties to the side….” and he did so, seeing your slick shine in the moonlight, and playing in it for a minute, tracing your lips and making you quiver around nothing.
The way you were moaning his name was everything right now.
Your face was pressed against the cool metal of the car, and it was the only thing tying you to the earth.
“Oh yes, Chris…. Please please yesss...fuck me… damn...stretch me out…”
Chris’s dick pulsed and he needed you around him. He moved close again and unzipped his pants, the sound making your knees weak.
He teased your cunt with his tip, collecting your arousal and smearing it not only around your pussy, but around your asshole.
“I know you’ve fucked him, but have you let him have your ass?  Am I still the only one…?”
Chris was still playing the game.
“No, no, no… I haven’t let him… I haven’t given him anything. I’ve been celibate, too.  It’s still yours Chris. All of me is still yours.”
Chris almost came just hearing you say it out loud. He already knew, but hearing you say it was the shit.
He pushed into you with a grunt, and it was difficult.  He didn’t make it. Your cunt squeezed him out.
“Ffffuck, y/n. You’re practically closed down.  Is it true?”
He started rocking his tip into your pussy slowly, both regretting and reveling in the fact that he didn’t stretch you out with his fingers beforehand.  Then he decided that he wanted you to feel this fully.
You couldn’t answer, only responding with moans has he painfully breached you. You welcomed it, though.
“Ah, ah, ah, ah… yes Chris.  Only you.. Since you and I….”  Talking about it and the fact that you were taking him again made you wetter, and eased Chris’s way, although your pussy was already stinging with his girth. Your eyes rolled back in your head.
You would never get over this and were so grateful for the feeling again.
Chris watched you and had to grit his teeth to hold back from the reality that he was taking you again.
He leaned over you, hot breath huffing in your ear, puffing and groaning as he fucked you slowly.  He was trying to feel every sensation. He wanted you to know that each and every millimeter of your glorious wet, tight pussy was his.
‘Ohhhh. Fuck Chris… YESSSS!”  Your voice echoed off the concrete walls, and Chris wanted you louder.
“This what you wanted?  You wanted your thick cock inside you again. Hunh?  You wanted me to stretch your walls and fuck you raw, hunh?”  He started speeding up in time with your moans.
“Such a fucking filthy cockslut for me, baby.”  Chris grabbed your neck from the back. “Why didn’t you let Kevin hit, hunh?”
You didn’t answer, you just moaned and Chris smacked your ass, hard.
“Chris! Fuck!”
You screamed. You missed his ruthlessness when you fucked, you missed him making sure that you knew that he knew that you knew. You belonged to him.
 “Please!”
“I know why.”
Chris stopped fucking you and pressed down harder on your back, reaching around to find your clit.  He swirled around it once, then started to press down slowly.
“Because you would never beg him for that subpar dick that he has. You’re MY whore. You belong to me.”
He pressed down roughly, and you detonated around his dick.  He didn’t have to move.  Chris pulled out, leaving you cold and bereft.
You turned around and leaned up against the hood, panting and still desperate for him.  He stood there in front of you, dick sticking out of his pants, which were ruined, and still rock hard and ready. He was in a quiet rage.
“Why did you leave me?”
You searched his face.  He sounded like he was about to cry.  You couldn’t quite see his entire face, but his eyes shone, bright with liquid.  You went toward him.
“You hurt me Chris.  I couldn’t stay. But let me take care of you now.”
You got on your knees in front of him, the hard concrete of the parking structure digging into your knees.
Again, you welcomed the physical pain, distracting you from what you were doing to Kevin, to Chris, and to yourself.
Chris felt like he could fly.  You on your knees for him again was a dream.
He took his cock in his hand, stroking it, while moving close to you. In no time, the back of your head was in his palm, and you opened wide to accept him, hand coming up to stroke what you couldn’t fit.
“Ah, ah. Let me.”
You looked up at him to see an evil grin shine down on you.
Chris looked down on an angel trying to swallow him whole. He brushed the tears away from your eyes as you struggled to breathe. You were perfection.
Moaning around him, you relaxed your mouth and throat and let him use you.  It was difficult, because you were out of practice, but you welcomed the letting go of all thought.
You dripped down your thighs as Chris pumped into you, ready to accept what he had to give.
After a few minutes, he stopped, and pulled out, grabbing you up to your feet.
Then he bent down and grabbed you by the back of your thighs and you wrapped your legs around his waist, kissing him and trying to grind down on his still-erect cock as he backed you to the car.
Your ass hit the hood, and Chris reached between you to first tear your panties off. He put them in his pocket as he swiped his dick up and down your dripping wet folds.
He looked back up to watch your face as he pushed inside you, now, an easier path to nirvana.
He pulsed as he watched the pleasure take over your face, with your mouth slack and your eyes glassed over. This was his main purpose in life and he almost lost it.
He brought his hand up to bring you closer, breathed into your mouth as he squeezed your throat. You were high instantly, and clamped down on his cock as your body was wracked with waves of pleasure.
Chris let your body descend back down to the car as he pumped his seed into you, his mind fantasizing that he was impregnating you.
He shook your body as the last ropes of cum spurted out of him. He ran his hand down your body as he pulled out, zipping up his pants as you came back to your senses on the hood of the car.
You stared at the stars as you realized what you had done.  You sat up and adjusted your dress, gingerly climbing back down to the ground.
Chris kissed you on the forehead, and this time you let him get into the driver’s seat. You got in the passenger side and Chris reached into the glovebox and handed you some wet wipes.
“Fix your face. And your knees.”
He nodded down to your legs, which were dirty from the parking structure floor.  He watched you wipe your knees off, but stopped you as you went higher.
“No. I want you to feel me all night long.”
You wanted to be a brat, but you didn’t feel like sass right about now. You felt kinda terrible.
You got another wet wipe and fixed your makeup as best you could as Chris drove you back to the restaurant.
“Chris, I…”
“I know.  None of that meant that we’re back together.  That was for some kind of something, I dunno, something Kevin might have done?”
You looked down, ashamed. Chris lifted your chin up with his hand.
“I want you to come to me on your own.  You’ve gotten that out of your system, and I’m glad to be of service.”  You looked up into his eyes and at his wry smile.
“But remember, you still have a choice. I’m here if you choose me.”
He leaned over and gave you a tender kiss in front of the restaurant.
You smiled at him and climbed out of the car, watching as he drove off.
Chris’s heart was beating out of his chest as he watched you turn and go back inside. He fought the urge to turn around. It was better this way.
----
You walked in the restaurant, and pulled Kevin over to the side of the restaurant in dark alcove.
“Listen. Do you still want to marry me?”
He looked you up and down, taking in your state, from the faint marks on your neck to your scuffed knees.  He knew exactly what was up.
You raised an eyebrow at him.
-----
Three hours later, a sleepy Chris answered the doorbell in Brooklyn.
He smiled at you, in the Captain America t-shirt and jeans that you’d stolen from him after a photoshoot, looking like his favorite Disney princess. You.
You took him in, clad in grey sweatpants that hung off his magnificently cut body.  He blinked at you sleepily.
“The wedding is off. Chris, I….”
He reached out and grabbed you, pulling you in the brownstone and shutting the door behind you.  He had you pinned up against the wall as you tried to speak.
“Shut up and let me taste you.”
You grinned and wrapped your legs around his waist as he carried you upstairs.
---
The next morning, Chris was on the phone with Scott.
“Yes, tell the workers at the warehouse to dump all the products….I don’t care, the river, the landfill…. Y/N can’t find out that I bought up all her stock…. We’re going to be married..... I know what the fuck I’m doing Scott. We leave for Aruba this afternoon. Listen, I’ll call you later.”
Chris hung up and turned to find you in the doorway, frowning and rubbing your eyes.
“We’re going to Aruba?”
You smiled and yawned, sleepily stretching.  That was all that you’d heard of the conversation.
Chris gave you his stunner smile.
“Yes. It was going to be a surprise.”
He reached down and swung you up in his arms, carrying you into the bathroom bridal style.
“Now let’s get in the shower.  You’ve been very naughty, gotta get you clean for your wedding day.”
You giggled as you relaxed in Chris’s arms. “It takes two to be naughty, Chris.”
He winked at you as he turned on the shower. “Don’t I know it.”

I know it’s different. Let me know if you like it. Like, comment, reblog!

A few days ago, you found out that you had to go to LA, you had to do some reshoots. You were upset. You knew Chris’s birthday was coming up and this would mean that you would miss it. When you told him, he was a little upset too but that’s the business that you guys are in. Just by the look on his face you knew he was bummed out, that broke your heart.
You called around to see if there was anyway you could start earlier so that you could be home for his birthday. You were told that they could only move your stuff up a few days, but there was still no guarantee that you would be home early. You went ahead with the new schedule in the hopes that maybe you would be able to come home early. You had a plan though; you were going to surprise Chris for his birthday. The planning that went into this was going to be a lot, and also depended on you being able to wrap early. If not, you were still going to do something for him.
Before leaving, you did a little celebration between just you and Chris. You made him a cake, bought ice cream and did whatever he wanted to do. Which was just have a day together. You guys watched movies, had lots of cuddles, went swimming, took Dodger to the dog park. You really think that Chris was the one who wanted the dog park more than Dodger though. He was playing and petting all of the dogs that would let him.
When it was a couple of days before the big day, Chris’s 40th birthday. The director came to you and told you that if you guys could knock out your bigger parts of the reshoot, then you would be able to take off a couple of days and go home. You were so excited, and you thanked him over and over.
You didn’t tell Chris because you didn’t want to get his hopes up in case it didn’t happen. He had been texting and sending you videos of him and Dodger the whole time you have been gone. It made you miss them more, but you loved getting them. It also made you focus more on getting the scenes right the first time. You needed this to work out you really wanted to be with Chris on his birthday. You had a huge surprise for him.
Two days before, thing were looking good for you to be able to go home early. So, you called Scott to see if he could help you make sure everything goes smoothly.
“Hello beautiful.”
“Aww Y/n, thank you. You look beautiful too.” You could hear the hesitation in his voice. To be fair you still had your fight scene makeup on, so there were cuts and bruises over your face.
“Thank you… for being willing to lie to me and tell me I look beautiful when I don’t.”
“You’re welcome sweetheart. How are things going? Are you going to be able to come home?”
“It is looking like it.” You had a big smile on your face. “That reminds me did you get the package?”
“I did, and everything is still intact. You did a great job packaging it.”
“I just hope I get to be there when he opens it. I know this isn’t the ideal way to tell him, but I wanted this to be part of his gift.”
“You are going to be here.  Stop worrying about it, everything is going to be perfect.”
“I know.” There was a knock on your trailer door. “I have to go; I am being summoned to set.”
“Ok, I will see you in two days. Bye.”
“Bye Scott.”
You went to set and started working your scene. You did everything that you could before they had to have your stunt double come in and do the more difficult part of the stunt. Which was fighting up to a balcony before being kicked off of it and dropping about 20ft. They had to do it a couple of times, but on the 4th try it went wrong. Your stunt double ended up missing one of the choreographed steps and dislocated her ankle. Everyone was freaking out; she was telling everyone she was okay and that she has had worse. You felt horrible, you didn’t want her getting hurt especially doing a stunt for you.
The directors and producers were all talking about what to do. If they had to postpone the scene to find a new stunt double, that would put everything behind, and you wouldn’t make it home in time. So, you told them that you would do it. You know all of the steps; they just didn’t want you falling off the balcony. After a lot of convincing, they agreed to let you do the stunt.
After a few takes you were able to get it perfect. You were a little relieved that you were able to get it done. You really just wanted to stop, the first few times you did it you were being too cautious so when you let yourself loosen up a little bit, it looked more natural and that’s the take that they used.
The next day, you were still working to get everything done on time. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on your side. Things weren’t working for you, there were technical issues. You ended up working super late into the night. As you were wrapping for the night, the director came up to you, based on the look he had you didn’t think it was good.
“Hey Y/n.”
“Hey Joe. What’s up.” You put on a fake smile.
“Here.” He handed you a manila envelope. “Open it.”
You looked at him very confused before opening the envelope. What you weren’t expecting was to pull out a ticket home to Boston. Your eyes started tearing up. You were so happy, you were speechless. You just threw your arms around Joe and held him in a tight hug.
“OH My Gosh!!! Thank you! Thank you!”
“You’re welcome. You have been working so hard the last few weeks and we just wanted to do something for you. So go home and surprise your husband.” He gave you a smile.
“I will. Again, thank you.”
You let go of him before running to your trailer to change out of your characters outfit, into your comfy clothes. Once you were done you packed up your stuff and went back to your hotel to pack the rest. Your flight is at 7:55 am which means you have to be there by at least 5 am. You also have to get up at 3:30 or 4 am, which you weren’t looking forward too but it will be worth it in the long run.
You woke up to your 3 am alarm. You groaned and just listened to the alarm, quickly picking up the phone and texting Chris.
Y- HAPPY BIRTHDAY OLD MAN!
C- Wow! That hurts.
Y- But you know what…
C- What’s that?
Y- You’re MY old man. Happy birthday baby.
C- Thank you sweetheart. Wait what are you doing up? Its like 3 in the morning there.
Y- Well, there’s this guy that means the world to me. Today just happens to be his birthday and I wanted to tell him the moment that I woke up.
C- Really? He sounds like a lucky guy.
Y- Yes you are. I really want to keep talking to you, but I have to get ready. I Love You and I hope you have a great birthday. I will call you later. Okay?
C- I Love You too. Only one thing would make it great, and that would be you here with me. I know I don’t get to have that. I will take a facetime call though.
Y- Chris I know, and I want to be there so bad. I will make it up to you. I promise.
You just can’t wait to see the look on his face when you show up. You quickly messaged Scott letting him know that you will be coming home and that everything is ready to go for when you get there. He was excited when you texted him. Saying I told you so as well.
When you arrived in Boston, Scott was waiting at the airport for you. The birthday party was in full swing at your home. Chris was texting Scott nonstop asking where he was, what he was doing, when are you getting here, etc. When you guys pulled up to your house you quickly set everything in motion. You had also pulled Sebastian into this, since he was going to be here you asked him to keep Chris occupied.
You pulled the extra-large box out of Scotts car, taking it to the front door and setting it up. The box had happy birthday wrapping paper on it, with bows and a tag that says “To My Old Man” written on it. You climbed into the box, before Scott closed the top up, he handed you the special box that you had shipped to him. You set it down inside the box and crouched down so that when Chris opens it you can jump out of it.
Scott went to the door and yelled inside.
“Chris come outside, there’s a giant box out here.”
Everyone followed behind Chris. He looked at it and was kind of taken back.
“Who’s this from?” He looked around and everyone was confused. So, he walked closer and saw the tag, a big smile came across his face. “Never mind, there’s a note. Its from Y/n!”
He quickly ripped the wrapping paper that was on the top, the flaps popped up letting you know that it was time to pop yourself up.
“SURPRISE!” His face went from scared to happy in an instant.
“Y/N!!!” He wrapped you in a tight bear hug. “I am so happy you’re here.” He kissed the side of your head.
“Wait I have a bigger surprise for you.”
“What could be bigger than you being here?” He tilted his head in confusion.
“Just wait.” You bent down and picked up a small box. “Open it.”
He took the box and did as he was told. When he opened it, he had an even more confused look on his face. Inside the box was an egg on top of crinkle paper. On the inside of the flap, it says “Crack me”. He took the egg out and you took the box from him. He cracked open the egg to reveal a little note.
“Read it out loud.” You prompted him before he could start reading.
“Okay.” He looked at you then back at the note.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“A little Bird came to say, Baby Evans is on the way!” He looked back up at you again. “You’re going to be a DAD!!”
Everyone just stood there in shock, especially Chris.
“Really? I… I’m gonna be a dad?”
All you could do was nod your head. You had tears welling up in your eyes. You reached into the box and pulled out a onesie and a sonagram photo, holding them both up to him.
“Hello daddy.” He read the onesie out loud. He couldn’t hold out any longer, he pulled you back into a hug. Both of you had started crying tears of joy.
“Happy Birthday Baby.” You whispered into his ear.
He pulled back to look at you, he had the biggest smile on his face that you had ever seen. Everyone around you was cheering and celebrating, but the two of you were in your own little world that it felt like nobody else was there. His hands moved to your face, wiping away the tears before pulling you into a kiss.
After a few minutes of being in your own bubble, Chris helped you out of the box. Then everyone came up to you and Chris and congratulated the two of you. Then a few hours later after everyone had left, you were laying on the couch. Your hands were on your stomach as you started to fall asleep. Dodger was laying in between your legs, with his head up on your stomach next to your hands. Chris came and laid down with the two of you, he put his hand over yours. You looked at him with sleepy eyes and a half smile.
“Did you have a good birthday?”
“No.” He had a serious look on his face.
“What?!” Your eyes instantly opened, and you had a sad look on your face.
“I had a Great birthday. I can honestly say that this was the best birthday I have ever had.”
“Chris!” You brought your hand up and smacked him in the arm. “You scared me, I thought that…”
“OW! No hitting the birthday boy!”
“I hate you.”
“Impossible.” You just rolled your eyes at him. “I see how it is.” He wrapped his arms around you and started peppering you with kisses on the side of your face, neck and lips.
“Stop it!” You tried to pull away from him, but he’s too strong.
“Not until you take it back.”
“Okay, I Love You.” You looked him right in the eyes. “I Love You, you big goof-ball.”
“That’s all I ask.”
Dodger started whining, you reached over and started petting him. As you lay there in Chris’s arms you started to think about the future. About taking time off from acting, raising your baby with the love of your life. You looked over to him, he was already looking at you.
“What are you thinking about?”
“I’m thinking that, I am the luckiest guy in the world. How did an amazing woman like you fall for a dork like me? Also how do I keep tricking you into staying now that I have told you that…”
You just laughed. “If you are the luckiest guy then I am definitely the luckiest girl. You are an amazing man Chris, and you are going to be a great dad.”
“You are going to be a great mom Y/n. What were you thinking about?”
“How much our lives are going to change. I think that this will be my last movie for a little while.” You know now that you have to tell him what happened on set. “I need to tell you something, but please don’t get upset. I made sure I was safe, and the baby was safe.”
He sat up on one of his elbows to get a better look at you. “What happened?”
“Well Kate, my stunt double dislocated her ankle doing a stunt and I decided that I would do it. I wanted to get the shoot done, but like I said I made sure everything was completely safe.”
He dropped his head onto your shoulder, letting out a long sigh. “Please don’t do that anymore. I know you said it was safe, but I don’t want you or the baby getting hurt.”
“I won’t. I promise.” You lifted his head off of your shoulder, pulling him in for a long kiss.
“I love you Y/n.”
“I love you too Chris.”
Dodger barked, you both looked at him. “We love you too Dodger.

This Week in BL
April 2021 Part 2
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
Love Poison 2 Ep 3 - incomprehensible plot, confusing characters, terrible audio, I’m dropping this one.
Second Chance Ep 2 - they are my adorable babies and I LOVE THEM. Must protect Jeno at all cost. Chris, come on, boy needs you. (They’re the jock/nerd pair.) Then there’s the friend-to-lovers (Paper & Fah) and cafe cute boys (M & Near). We got artful injury tending (finger & lip) and some jealousy or something. Is the script good? Hell no. Is anything happening? Nope. But I’m INVESTED in the nothingness.
Lovely Writer Ep 7 - mostly set in the past, but the child actors they got were decent. I actually liked how they explained Sib’s behavior (I mean losing your BFF + figuring out you’re gay at the same time gotta mess with your head). We got touch my lip, carry baby to bed, let’s sleep facing, face touch, hair touch, and a hand kiss as well as The Kiss. With so many intimacy and caring tropes, I’m well pleased.  BONUS: NO SOUND EFFECTS. Please make then have fired the sound tech. OHPLEAESEOHPLEASEOHPLEASE.
Fish Upon The Sky Ep 1 - I like it. Might as well break the 4th wall if you’re gonna do a voice over. Some super cringy moments but I think that’ll improve post makeover. Yet again we have a BL poking fun at its own tropes. 2021 is definitely the year of meta. Oh and Phuwin’s English is really good.
Call It What You Want Ep 1-2 - it’s slow and more arty than I expected. The actor playing the main character looks eerily like Up (Gene in Lovely Writer) + an ex of mine - it’s disconcerting.
Brothers Ep 10 - my two got together and ARE ADORABLE. I actually really like how they dealt with Khun’s seme ownership freak out. That’s some sexy communicating, boys! So many couples (and triads) I’m well confused, but I only love KhunKaow so no one else matters.
Y-Destiny Ep 2 - cute, bit raunchy, kinda fun, about a million tropes in one tiny ep. I’m getting So Much in Love meets something from Strongberry. No bad thing... no real good thing either. But I was expecting a lot worse.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
HIStory 4: Close To You (Taiwan) Ep 4 (AKA Ep 7-8) - I don’t wanna blog about it. I can’t even think about it. I’m still gonna keep watching it. Conclusion? I’m trash.
Word of Honor (China) Ep 22-24 - Wen is as much as a drama queen as Gene (in his own special way). Most of his past is now revealed plus obligatory bathing scene. (Is Gong Jun contractually obliged to be topless in all his dramas or is it just for the good of the planet? Asking for a friend.) A good 60% of the time I have no idea what is going on (so many names! who is this Lovelace putz allasudden?) but I don’t care cause they so pretty.
Most Peaceful Place (Vietnam) Ep 3 - didn’t drop this week, or was it only 2 episodes? I’m so confused.
We Best Love 2 (Taiwan) Ep 6 fin - It’s GREAT, they’re great, everyone’s great, the world is great. So pleased to get Shu Yi and his dad talking Japanese. I love it when Taiwan makes use of bilingual actors (see Because of You) almost as much as them flexing their marriage equality muscles. The full circle pool kiss was adorable and this series is officially a favorite. (@heretherebedork your boys don’t end unhappily but they don’t get an HEA either, everyone else does. I think you’d be okay with this one.)
Tumblr media
Stand Alones
Tell the World I Love You (Thai BL movie) released into theaters? Or not? Haven’t heard anything about it.
Tumblr media
Breaking News
Bite Me got a full trailer and it looks GOOD. Mark Siwat seems to be carrying this one, which is fine, we all know he can (especially if you’ve seen his non-LBC stuff). Quality controls seem relatively high, although this may only be a fund-raising trailer. No eng subs at last check but I’m disposed to be hopeful. It feels like we are in Oxygen territory and that was one of my favorites last year.
You’re My Sky dropped what they’re calling an “official pilot.” No eng subs. I think this is a tester trailer to raise funds. MDL listing makes this sound like a standard college BL, but trailer portrays a sports romance. Stars almost-familiar new faces from Y-Destiny. It’s like we have a new crop of BL actors chomping at the bit to take over from MaxTul or MewGulf, and with the 91 line aging out*, maybe they aren’t wrong?
Tumblr media
* Don’t crawl into my craw, they’ve most of ‘em said they don’t wanna keep doing BL after turning 30 and frankly, why should they?
Gossip
Nitiman dropped BTS from their publicity shoot. No eng subs.

OH MY PACK!
I managed to see FLASHBACK—formally known as The Education of Fredrick Fitzell—early (it's released this Friday, June 4th) through the website i make art for!?!?!?!!!
Don't worry, there are NO SPOILERS HERE
HOWEVER I am going to gush over how much I enjoyed the film; how good a film I thought it was; and, obvs, DoB's tour de force acting!!!!!!!!!!! But IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ ANYTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH THE MOVIE like how somebody else felt about watching it (ie you don't wish to know somebody else's opinion on whether they enjoyed it or not to colour your own) then DO NOT READ BEYOND THE CUT.
MY NON-SPECIFIC THOUGHTS:
So, I very much enjoyed the premise after seeing the trailer all those months (a year, even?) ago. It looked like a kinda psychological headfuck, which is exactly my kind of movie, lol. And I was not at all disappointed as it is very much that—and I loved way the narrative panned out. In fact, I was maybe even more in love with the actual story than I thought I might be. It's clever and thought-provoking and very, very well done imo.
It looks great (colouring and cinematography is lush), hits precisely where its aiming, and is definitely the kind of roll that dylan shines in. Yes, our boi is absolutely brilliant as the slightly bumbling but clever and lovable everyman like Stiles/Stuart/Joel etc... but think of Void!Stiles/Nogitsune and how powerful his acting choices were there, and your in the right ballpark for his character performance in Flashback. I mean, honestly, all the acting is great. But then there's Dylan. And yeah, I know we're all biased because we love the guy so much, but I really tried to watch his performance objectively... and he really is just that good. I would not be surprised at all (and frankly a little disappointed) if this movie doesn't give Dylan a hell of a lot more options when it comes to his roll choices.
OVERALL LASTING TAKE AWAY:
RATING:
Think Eternal Sunshine crossed with Existenz and you're somewhere close. A real gem of a psychological thriller that's slightly artsy, very clever and leaves you in that sort of place where your mind just cannot help but keep going back to it...
10/10 *all-the-chef's-kisses*

Karaoke Night (Booboo Stewart x Reader)
Tumblr media
A/n: So I hope you guys like it! I'm currently working on the rest of my requests. I'm probably gonna hold off on the sunset curve one cause I don't know if I'm gonna make that a smut yet. Also I do have a JATP groupchat for 18+ and a tumblr taglist so comment if you wanna be added to any of those!
Requested by: Perksofbeingjune34 (Wattpad)
Warnings: Drinking
————
I set Jadahs makeup in place smiling at her reaction.
"Thanks y/n! I look great" She grinned.
"I'm so ready for tonight"
"Me too Jadah. We should get going before we miss getting a ride"
"I'm sure Booboo will wait for you" She teased knowing about my small crush on the actor.
"He has to. We're roommates" I stated fixing my eyeliner in the mirror in front of us.
After a long day my uncle Kenny invited the cast and crew to a karaoke night to celebrate none other than the birthday of Jadah Marie who was turning 16. And like any good niece I of course said yes to the invitation being very good friends with the young girl. Fortunately enough, having talent in the makeup department gave me an opportunity to work with uncle Kenny on a lot of amazing projects. Including his current one. Julie and the Phantoms.
I had worked with some of the cast previously including Jadah herself, Cheyenne Jackson, and of course my best friend and roommate Booboo Stewart. Who I had met on the set of the very first Descendants. We've been close ever since. Even renting an apartment together in LA and of course begging my uncle to pair us as roommates here in Vancouver.
I sighed running to the back of the trailer pulling out my gift for Jadah, handing it to the girl.
"Here open it when you get the chance. But we should really get going" I said taking off my jacket showing off the nice dress I had put on for tonight.
"Thanks. You look great. I'm sure you'll catch someone's attention tonight" She spoke wiggling her eyebrows.
"Jadah I did not tell you about my crush for you to tease me all the time. I told you so you could stop accusing me of it"
I playfully rolled my eyes, shutting the door behind us.
"Crush on who?" A familiar voice asked from behind us making my eyes go wide.
"Booboo what are you doing here?" I asked taking in the boys appearance.
A nice navy blue suit paired with a pair of white shoes. His sleeves rolled up to his elbows and white button down opened just enough to show off the gold friendship necklace I got him for his own birthday.
"I waited for you. I promised everyone I'd get you two to Karaoke in one piece. Now answer my question. You have a crush on who?"
"Harry Styles" I replied.
The young girl clearly stifling a laugh from beside me.
"Oh" He replied with a frown.
"Well that's nothing new. We should get going. Don't want the birthday girl to be late" He smiled at Jadah as we made our way towards the parking lot.
The ride to the restaurant wasn't a complete loss. Jadah making the tension in the air float away. Starting off by playing I spy to telling stupid jokes causing laughter to fill the air.
"Okay we're here" Booboo stated as we pulled up to the front of the restaurant. I thanked the valet who opened my door waiting for Jadah and Booboo.
The two each took one side of me as we walked towards the karaoke bar. Immediately spotting the table that was making noise. I giggled as Owen waved us over crazily.
The hostess immediately walking us over.
"Jadah! Y/n!" Madison shouted getting up to hug us.
I smiled sliding into the booth in between Savannah and Booboo.
"You look beautiful sweetheart"
"Thanks uncle Kenny. This place is fancy"
"This place has drinks" Charlie stated holding up a menu"
"Hallelujah to being 21" I announced taking a menu.
"You want something?" I asked the boy beside me.
"Can't I'm driving"
"Right. Ones of us has be responsible"
"And sober enough to carry the other one to her bedroom so she doesn't trip over her own two feet" He teased bumping my shoulder.
"It was one time"
"It was twice actually" Booboo corrected me making me playfully roll my eyes.
"Did I mention you look beautiful by the way?" He spoke getting closer to me.
"Uh no. Thank you though" I shyly smiled looking over the menu.
"Your very welcome. I'm a lucky guy you know?"
"And why is that?"
"Because I'm going home with the prettiest girl here tonight" He whispered in my ear. My cheeks burning brighter than a thousand suns.
"Really? Where is she?" I attempted to joke to calm the blood rushing to my face.
"For your information she's sitting right next to me. You know since were roommates and all"
"Oh right of course" I spoke shaking off the slight tinge in my heart.
The waitress soon made her way over taking down our drinks. I ordered something semi strong knowing I'd need it to get through the night.
I loved the cast. They were amazing really. But they take a lot of energy to keep up with which I don't have on my own. Me or Booboo for that matter which is why instead of going out the two of us enjoyed to stay in and cuddle. Of course having a movie marathon. Usually comedies. Like all close friends do. Right?
"So who's gonna go up first?" Owen asked no one daring to speak up.
"Come on I get a cast full of talented singers and no one wants to sing" My uncle said as yet another person went up on stage.
"Oh can one of you go up there and like serenade me or something" I asked excitedly.
"Booboo your girls talking but I don't see you moving" Savannah said making everyone chuckle.
"Oh Y/n can go!" Madison yelled excitedly.
"No she's can't" I said playing with my fingers.
"Oh you totally could. We don't judge here" Charlie agreed.
"I really can't. I do makeup I don't sing"
"You do you liar. I've heard you when you think you're alone in the makeup trailer. Your amazing"
"I'm not singing Mads"
"Come on it can be my birthday present" Jadah grinned.
"Forget it guys. My own niece hasn't even let me hear her sing" My uncle spoke making me roll my eyes.
"I'm not doing it. There's no way"
"Come on y/n/n" Booboo finally spoke placing a hand on my arm.
I looked up at the man in front of me and back at his hand. He quickly moved it away sending me his signature smile.
"You know you have it in you"
"Let's get her drunk!" Charlie yelled raising his arms in the air making us all laugh.
"Charlie might actually be on the right track" I chuckled.
"I'll get the shots" Booboo spoke slipping out of the booth.
I took my 4th shot beginning to feel the liquid courage take over me.
"Are you drunk enough yet? Owen asked. I giggled nodding my head watching my uncle nod his head in disapproval.
"I brought you guys here to celebrate poor Jadah's birthday and you repay me by getting my niece drunk" Uncle Kenny spoke making me burst out in laughter.
"Your gonna be so proud of me" I laughed pushing Booboo out of the booth and standing up.
I made my way towards the stage with the help of Savannah. Watching as she walked towards the dj leaving me alone with the microphone.
I grinned upon hearing the beginning of a familiar song.
Yeah, everybody's got a thing
But some don't know how to handle it
Always reaching out in vain
Just taking the things not worth having
But don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing, mama
'Cause I'll be standing on the side
When you check it out, oh
I sang watching the reaction of the table I was previously sat at. They were shocked as they should be. But the tequila in my system couldn't care less.
They say your style of life's a drag
And that you must go other places
Just don't you feel too bad
When you get fooled by smiling faces
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing, baby
'Cause I'll be standing on the side
When you check it out
When you get it off your trip
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing, yeah
Come on!
Everybody needs a change
A chance to check out the new
You're the only one to sees
The changes you take yourself through
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Don't you worry 'bout a thing (thing)
Don't you worry 'bout a thing (thing)
Don't you worry 'bout a thing (thing)
Don't you worry 'bout a thing (thing)
Pa-pa-p, pa-pa-pa-pa
Pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
Pa-pa-p, pa-pa-pa-pa
Pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa
Singing at the top of my lungs. I began to dance. Watching the mood of the place change. Everyone beginning to clap along. My eyes landed on the boy I had been crushing on for a while now.
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing, mama
'Cause I'll be standing on the side
When you check it out
When you get it off your trip
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
Don't you worry 'bout a thing, mama
'Cause I'll be standing on the side
When you check it out
Oh, don't you worry
Don't you worry 'bout a thing, mama
'Cause I'll be standing, I'll be standing
When you
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh,
Don't you worry 'bout a thing
I finished with a bow before making my way back to the table. Taking the shot that sat in front of Charlie.
"Hey!" He yelled.
"That was amazing!" Madison shouted as the whole table began to cheer.
"Thanks guys. It was fun"
"This could be the start of your singing career"
"Thank you but no thank you uncle Kenny. Baby can you get me another shot" I patted Booboos shoulder.
"Did you just call him baby?"
"I meant Booboo" I corrected myself.
"I think you need some rest if your mixing up words" Booboo spoke standing up.
"I-I'm fine" I whispered looking up at him.
"We can rewatch Harry Potter"
"And suddenly I'm ready to go home" I shouted.
"Happy Birthday Jadah" I grinned at the girl.
"Thank you for coming. And my makeup. And my gift. And everything else"
"Your welcome. You deserve it all!" I shouted lifting my arms in the air. Immediately stumbling backwards only to be caught by a pair of arms.
"I'll get her home safely Kenny. Nothing to worry about" He spoke from behind me.
"Thank you. And thanks for coming guys" My uncle spoke as I was led out the place.
"I'm ready for movie night!" I shouted walking out of my bedroom in a pair of sweats and an oversized tee shirt. Booboos shirt to be exact.
"Me too!" He shouted from the kitchen.
"Hogwarts here we come" I spoke sitting down on the couch. Seeing he already had put the disk in.
I watched as he made his way over with a bowl of popcorn at hand.
He placed it on the table laying down on the couch. His head immediately falling onto my lap. I giggled running my fingers through his hair as the opening of the movie started.
We were only 6 minutes in before I glanced down at my lap. There he laid looking so peaceful. So adorable.
I sighed watching as his gaze moved towards me.
The sound of the movie that once filled the room now silent.
"Okay what's up?" He questioned sitting up.
"C-can I sing you something?"
"Like now?"
"Yeah it's a song I wrote"
"You write?"
"Every once in a while. So can I?"
"Of course"
I grinned running to my room pulling out the acoustic guitar inside my closet.
I rushed back outside sitting beside him once more. Biting my lip I began to strum away at the chords.
Your love is bright as ever
Even in the shadows
Baby kiss me
Before they turn the lights out
Your heart is glowing
And I'm crashing into you
Baby kiss me
Before they turn the lights out
Before they turn the lights out
Baby love me lights out
In the darkest night hour (in the darkest night hour)
I'll search through the crowd (I'll search through the crowd)
Your face is all that I see
I'll give you everything
Baby love me lights out
Baby love me lights out
You can turn my lights out
We don't have forever
Ooh, baby daylight's wasting
You better kiss me
Before our time has run out
Mmm yeah
Nobody sees what we see
They're just hopelessly gazing, oh
Oh, baby take me, me
Before they turn the lights out
Before our time has run out
Baby love me lights out
In the darkest night hour (in the darkest night hour)
I'll search through the crowd (I'll search through the crowd)
Your face is all that I see
I'll give you everything
Baby love me lights out
Baby love me lights out
You can turn my lights out
I love you like XO
You love me like XO
You kill me boy XO
You love me like XO
All that I see
Give me everything
Baby love me lights out
Baby love me lights out
You can turn my lights out
In the darkest night hour (in the darkest night hour)
I'll search through the crowd (I'll search through the crowd)
Your face is all that I see
I'll give you everything
Baby love me lights out
Baby love me lights out
You can turn my lights out
I strung the last chord watching as a small smile played at his lips.
"I-it was about you in case you couldn't tell"
"I was hoping you'd say that" He grinned leaning in.
Our lips met in the middle. Moving together in sync. And for a split second it was like the world had disappeared as his hand moved up to caress my cheek.
I giggled as we pulled away watching his face. His happiness radiate with the same energy as mine.
"I really like you" I admitted feeling that blood rush back to my face from earlier.
"I really like you too y/n/n" He whispered leaning in once more.

Hey! Album: 'Fleetwood Mac' (1975) - Fleetwood Mac
Hey! Great to hear from you! You (and your previous blog) were my original inspiration for trying to raise my tumblr game to something intentionally curated, and more than that, personally creative. Sorry to have let you down. LOL
What a pleasure to talk about this one, though, an album I think is -- strangely enough -- one of the most underrated albums in the classic rock pantheon!
What’s that you say? An album with “Rhiannon” and “Landslide” underrated?!?! Well it’s true, seriously underrated, at least partly because those two stellar, nay, legendary songs are the first ones that most people think of. There's so much more! It's definitely my favorite Fleetwood Mac album!
My perspective is a little different than the standard rap that Fleetwood Mac didn't properly begin until those two California kids joined the band in 1975, because to me, they started taking off when their first American joined the band, Bob Welch in 1971 for Future Games, which I wrote about at some length here.
(For the record, Future Games is my second favorite Fleetwood Mac album. Anyone who hasn't checked it out really needs to.)
I’ll leave it at that for now, except to observe that to most of my music nerd friends at the time, I was a latecomer to Fleetwood Mac the band, having completely missed their earlier, bluesier lineups. Indeed, the 1971 lineup was their 8th! And they'd come to #9 in 1972, before landing on lineup #10 in 1975.
They had a bunch of hits on the five albums in this 71-74 range (”Hypnotized” is one that still slays me) that I think hold up as among their best ever. While the album before Fleetwood Mac, Heroes Are Hard to Find didn’t have a hit single, it rose to #34 on the US charts, and got plenty of attention.
My point is that Fleetwood Mac didn’t spring into existence out of nowhere in 1975. Nor was 1975 necessarily ground zero for the millions of people who bought the album Fleetwood Mac. It came out in the summer of ‘75, but took 15 months to hit #1 in the US! (It peaked at #11 in the UK.) This was a far bigger album in 1976 when all the singles came out, and the band was touring like crazy to support it.
They basically dragged the album to the top of the charts kicking and screaming by the end of THAT year with relentless touring, setting the stage for their true commercial breakthrough with Rumours in 1977, but artistically? I prefer everything about 1975′s Fleetwood Mac.
btw, the music nerds know that Fleetwood Mac was recorded at Sound City Studios, which makes all the difference in the telling of the tale. In 1974, the band had located to Los Angeles, and following the departure of Bob Welch in December, Mick Fleetwood went looking for both a recording studio and a guitarist.
While getting to know producer Keith Olsen at Sound City (a studio legendary for its drum sound, among other things), Keith played Mick some tracks from an album he’d recorded here a couple of years earlier with a local guitarist and his girlfriend singer, both of whom were also songwriters.
Mick said, I’ll book the studio to record my next album, I’ll book you to produce, and I’ll hire the guitarist....who famously informed Mick that he and his girlfriend were a package deal. All of this happened because of Sound City Studios.
(Here's Mick recording this very album in this very studio.)
Tumblr media
Your friend and mine Dave Grohl directed a FANTASTIC documentary about Sound City Studios, a kind of a dump to be honest, but where tons of phenomenal records were made, from After The Gold Rush to Caribou, Damn The Torpedoes, Nevermind, Rage Against The Machine, and most recently, Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher. Lots and lots of stories about the making of Fleetwood Mac in this movie, and much more.
Here’s the trailer. The whole movie is available on YT, too! And Amazon Prime, and a bunch of other places. HIGHLY recommended!
youtube
So here we go taking directly about Fleetwood Mac.....
the first song from the album i heard: "Over My Head". This was the first single released in the US, remarkably, four months after the album was released! I dunno, did the label not want to sell any albums? Or did they just not get how catchy these tunes were? I have no idea.
And ironically, the band didn't like the choice of "Over My Head" at all, ranking it dead-last in their own considerations of likely singles! I think that this is evidence that they were using heavy drugs much earlier than we thought. LOL
"Over My Head" peaked at #20 in the US, their highest to date by far, although, in some defense of the band's reservations, didn't chart at all in the UK. Saying that it rose to "only" 20 in the charts doesn't begin to describe how heavily it was played, though. A LOT.
do i own the album: Did then, Spotify now. The answer for most of the albums in this round of Asks. :-)
my favorite song: "Over My Head". Look, I admit that this is insane when Fleetwood Mac also includes "Landslide" and "Rhiannon." "Landslide" in particular is maybe one of the greatest songs anyone has ever written, and every single person reading this knows somebody named Rhiannon because of that song. (I've met two.) And hey, "Say You Love Me" was a MUCH bigger hit at the time too... but I'm tellin' ya, "Over My Head" fucks.
It's the single version that fucks hardest, though, no doubt about it. I was disappointed when I finally bought the album that the version there fades in (NO! THIS IS WRONG) and has a wide mix that diffuses the impact. The radio version is so tight that it's practically mono, and it punches you right upside the head.
One of my favorite things about listening to "Over My Head" in the past couple of weeks for this Ask is that it's Old School Fleetwood Mac. Chris on piano, Mick on drums, and John McVie with what might be the best bassline that anyone stroked out in 1975. My god, it's a fucking monster, and it just gets hotter as the song progresses. By the end, it's on fire, and you hear it so much better in this tight single mix.
The new guy adds a nice little solo on top of a nice rhythm lick, and he and Stevie add background vocals, but they're not front and center. "Over My Head" is really Christine McVie's showcase, although Fleetwood and Mac really shine too. This would have been a monster hit without the new kids, as indeed it pretty much was. You could say the same thing about "Say You Love Me", which is also all about Christine's songcraft, and a voice like no other, then or now.
Here's my edit of a lovely Mick Putland photo of Christine McVie from a couple of years earlier.
Tumblr media
I guarantee that it's been way too long since you heard the in-your-face single version of "Over My Head". On Spotify, you can find it on the couple of Deluxe Editions of Fleetwood Mac (here's one), and it's also on the anthology, The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac, which I've embedded here.

youtube
least favorite song: "I'm So Afraid." I'm so afraid not. LOL
a song I didn’t like at first, but now do: Hmm, I might put "Sugar Daddy" in that category, but honestly, the main thing I don't like about this song is the title. LOL But it's the 4th best Christine McVie song on an album where the best three of hers were all released as singles, so I guess it all works out.
a song I used to like, but now don’t: Anything by the new guy. I'm not going to go into detail here because what I love about this album, I still love. At the time, I dug two of his songs here (you can guess which two, surely), but I started to really despise this guy a few years later. Now, I can't listen to anything where he's prominent at all, on any Fleetwood Mac records.
Fortunately there are more than enough Christine and Stevie songs, and Mick and John's playing, plus all those earlier albums like Future Games, to keep Fleetwood Mac in the rock good pantheon. I'd have fired the new guy 30 years earlier than he was.
favorite lyric:
Mirror in the sky
What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Well, I've been afraid of changin'
'Cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Even children get older
And I'm getting older too
Like I said, the two Stevie Nicks tracks on Fleetwood Mac deserve every bit of the love they've gotten over the years. You can also see with just a quick glance around my blog that she's one of my most-posted artists. Please don't take me repping Christine as any disrespect for Stevie!
Do I like "Landslide" a little more than I otherwise might because it's specifically about outgrowing the aforementioned new guy? Maybe.  Or do I like it a little less than I otherwise might because I can't hear it without thinking of him? Maybe that too.
overall rating out of 10: Then: 9.4. Now: 9. The new guy went 2-for-4 for my money at the time, and the two that he whiffed on are genuinely terrible...but as bad as those two clunkers were, the rest of the album seemed perfect to me. Certainly among my most-played mainstream rock records into the early 80s. I was perfectly fine skipping one song on each side.
Even though nowadays I can't stand any of the songs he sings lead on, you take those off, and you STILL have "Landslide", "Rhiannon", "Say You Love Me", "Over My Head", and "Warm Ways". No album with ALL THOSE on them gets less than an 8.5, right?
I'm adding a few tenths each for how tightly Fleetwood and Mac are locked into each other and these songs on rythm (easily the most underrated duo of the era, sez me), and Keith Olsen's immaculate production. The score of 9 is therefore objectively correct and mathematically unassailable. LOL
I'm going to end where I began, by talking about Christine McVie. Instead of listening to this first and foremost as an album with a couple of giant Stevie Nicks songs, listen again to Fleetwood Mac as Christine McVie really lighting things up. She deserves so much more credit for the band's success than she gets, and seriously, "Over My Head" fucks.
Now looky here, @aluacrescente . I know that YOU have strong feelings about this record, so spill! And the rest of you, too! I don't intend to have the last word on the albums in any of these Asks! Just the first one. :-) So lemme know what YOU think!
PS. Apologies for any formatting weirdness! I started this on desktop, where I do all my writing, saved the first few paragraphs to come back to later, only to be told by tumblr that I'd stated this on the app (DID NOT) and could only edit there. Grrr. Not cool, @staff. I've spent another day just tweaking to make it somewhat readable and wondering how these people can be so bad at their jobs. LOL
My crackpot opinions and wobbly writing are my own of course, and I'm aware that they have a larger negative impact on readability than tumblr's incompetence by far. LOL

In the Heights (2021 Film) Review.
Okay after four watches. And I truly mean four seperate watches. I am ready to talk about this film and address some of the controversy.
I'd like to hit the biggest criticisms out of the way before going into just my general thoughts.
1. "There are no black people in the film"
False. First addressing the main cast and main supporting characters with substantial screen time (they get names and feature heavily in two or more of the main characters storylines) there are three black actors portraying African American or afro latino characters. Obviously this is disproportionate and of all those main and supporting characters the two with the biggest storylines are light skinned or have "traditionally euro centric thought of" physical features such as light green or hazel eyes.
So this hardly is grand representation for black or even "indigenous" (usually meaning dark skinned but not black) looking peoples. But it is more than we've traditionally seen in films about latinos they skew more towards Antonio Banderas looking (he's not latino just fyi).
I think where the film actually does well in its inclusion of black people is in the background scenes/dance numbers. I tried and you cannot count the number of black background characters in the first half of the film.
The second half of the film is arguably less inclusive. That is to say that as the film progressed there was notably less black background characters/dancers. Most notably during a dance sequence in a Merengue club. I could actually count the number of black people in the scene (three black men). But if I am honest the movie/plot itself falls apart towards the end with the inclusiveity it tried to have.
I also am going to mention this as both a pro and con for the film, I loved that we had black women who were deep dark. Like Amara la Negra dark, what I dont like and I think it needs to be said is that like most film there are more dark complexed men than women and there is a disproportionate amount of lighter skinned black women than both dark skinned black men and women.
The film (at least in its first have) does try to showcase diversity in the heights and amoung latinos, but it by no means is free from the same issues of colorism and favoring lighter skin tones black or non black, because the film was also devoid of more indigenous looking peoples. And I will admit my view of indigenous peoples is skewed by my knowledge of indigenous mexican communities i know nothing of the islanders or South American indigenous communities. But i didn't see much of that in the film from what I could tell.
So overall is this film anti-black
... I dont know if I can make that call, but I would think no because it does try to include that history in film and does try to be inclusive with its casting and dance numbers, but it for sure does not escape colorism and by no means is the best form or representation of afrolatinos and arguably more indigenous Groups.
It is for sure disproportionately light skinned in the second half and again unlike the first half you can count the number of black people in the background or in dance numbers.
2. It's a completely different story from the Broadway show.
.....not false, but not 100% true. In fact I think this is why it falls apart a bit. The film keeps a number of the songs from the original Broadway show with minimal changes. It works for some songs such as no me digas, Benny's dispatch, in the heights, carnaval del Barrio, 96,000, and breathe. But it makes others such as "when the sun goes down" seem out of place.
It also, imo, minimizes the role and impact of Abuelas character. That isn't to say that the character isn't still a big part of the story they fit her in differently than in the show, but it is so minimized that when we finally get her big number (and only number in the film) "Pacencia y Fe" it is a bit out of place
It is still the most heartfelt number (and made me cry each time I've seen it) and most relatable to my families experience so I loved it but being honest it is a bit out of place with little build up to it except a scene which is in the trailers where abuela talks about her mother.
Okay so with those things out of the way I want to talk general and key thoughts.
1st: style of the film and disjointment
I personally am still unsure about the style of the film. It sort of blends campy and unrealistic with the real. So you get numbers in people's head where fabric falls from the sky, self-moving wig heads, dancing on the sides of building in gravity defying fred astaire ways, and animated gestures and moments. I think its cool for the kids, but was a bit of a choice in my opinion. I didn't hate it, but almost every time something cooky happened I was just a bit unprepared for it and I dont think that'd how the audience should feel.
In fact the whole film felt disjointed because one moment you had these grand dance numbers with lots of people and minimal effects but great use of camera work like 96 000, but then you'd have scene in a very small space that felt more "Jersey Boys" film/camera work like Benny's Dispatch.
The worst camera work in my opinion was during When the sun goes down. While the idea of dancing on the side of a building was initially cool I kept wishing the camera would have moved differently at many points. Fred astaire's dancing on the walls is still the best filmed gravity defying dance sequence in my mind.
2nd: reducing the drama for Nina and Benny.
Okay so whether its colorism or just time considerations. I didn't like how the changed around Benny and Nina's relationship and build up in the film. In fact my favorite moment for the two (and my favorite songs of the play) from the original show happen in Blackout and then Sunrise. The moment in black out was given to Usnavi and Vanessa and sunrise is not in the film.
I think the shift in the role Benny plays in the business (Rosario's Cab Company) is more complex and better in my opinion and I do love that was added in the blackout scene rather than just doing away with seeing anything of that character with the removal of relationship drama.
3rd: LGBTQ+ representation. I won't claim that there is a bunch but having Daniela and Carla as a couple was pretty cool.
4th. Representation of Latinos
Flawed as it is, I think what in the heights gets right is the telling of complex stories of latinos that don't revolve around violence and crime. I love the look at latinos as business owners and as members of vibrant communities. From my own experience, latinos in film are or tv are not usually seen as such and when you do get look at a latino business owner it is a scene where they are being interviewed by the cops, or the neighborhood is shown as being run down.
Even the usually heavily used storyline of undocumented latinos was done in an interesting way in the film.
I haven't connected so much to a film before and I cried multiple times at the feeling of relating to certain characters and feelings.
I would recommend it to others, but I would also be clear that stylistically it is a choice. I think it probably works better for someone who hasn't seen or doesn't know of the original show. The friends i have taken enjoyed it and my siblings also loved it.

Fandom Spotlight: MuggleNet
MuggleNet, the #1 Wizarding World Resource Since 1999, is dedicated to honoring the magic of the wizarding world by providing reliable, fun, and informative news and content to fans—all while fostering a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment. They currently produce six podcasts, have published three books, and organized two large-scale live events. The next series of events, MuggleNet Live! 2019: Into the Pensieve, will be held October 4th and 5th in New York City.  The site is run by over a hundred fans from eleven countries and thirty-one states, ranging in age from fifteen to fifty-four, all of whom are passionate about making it the best it can be. Read all about the fandom and its future from seven of them!
20 years is a long time on the Internet. What’s the biggest way you’ve seen the fandom change on the site?
In the mid-2000s, when the books and movies were in their heyday, the site was all about speculation. In addition to news on book and movie release dates, filming updates, and changes made by J.K. Rowling to her website, MuggleNet’s most developed section was what is now known as The Quibbler, where individual authors regularly wrote columns theorizing about what might happen next. MuggleNet itself even published a book called What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7? After the final book was published in 2007, and the final movie hit theaters in 2011, the fandom had to make a choice: move on or adapt. Of course, then came Pottermore, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort, Fantastic Beasts, The Cursed Child, etc. MuggleNet has been there throughout it all. We still write about the original book and film series, of course, but we also cover a whole lot of news on the expanded world of the franchise, and we maintain a plethora of sections on the site which explore subjects like Muggle quidditch, the Studio Tour, and the theme parks. —Felicia, Managing Editor
Real Talk. Books or Movies?
The movies are accompaniments to the books. They’re appetizers—satisfying enough, but if you want something filling, you'll choose the books every time. There’s a level of depth and detail to the books that cannot be captured on-screen. When you watch the movies, you’re being presented with someone else’s vision of the books, which can be restricting. When you read the books, the possibilities are as endless as your imagination: How you picture each setting, each character, is up to you. You get to create your own world.  —Victor, Creative Editorial Manager
Which moment in the series made you a Potterhead?
I became a true Potterhead when I revisited the books in high school. For me, it was the climactic scene of the final book. Harry and Voldemort face each other in the Great Hall with the whole cast of characters lined up around the walls listening in stunned silence as Harry explains how Voldemort has underestimated love, the most powerful source of magic, and that this is his downfall. Evil finally defeated, the joy and grief and exhaustion following that moment left me completely in awe. That's when I realized how powerful and important this story about a boy wizard was. That's what keeps me coming back to Hogwarts again and again. It's because of deeply emotional, profound, and beautiful moments like that one that my love for Harry Potter goes beyond simple appreciation or enjoyment. Anyone who loves Harry Potter for any reason can be a Potterhead, of course, but I became a true Potterhead when I understood all the things that make Harry Potter timeless. —Richa, Creative Editorial Manager
What’s the most memorable Harry Potter experience you’ve had at a Comic Con?
The moment the trailer dropped at SDCC 2018 during the Crimes of Grindelwald panel: the room transformed, and Grindelwald’s speech in the tomb, performed live, started booming out over everything. My jaw absolutely dropped. The anticipation at that moment, the promise that was held there…it was something to behold.  —Alison, Staff Coordinator
What’s your dream Harry Potter cosplay?
My dream cosplay is an obscure one: Bob Ogden from The Half-Blood Prince. Frock coat over a striped bathing suit with spats.  —Meg, Copy Editing Coordinator
How do you see the Harry Potter fandom continuing to evolve?
I see it going through cycles of division but always coming back together. There will be things that push fans away, but I think that at the very core, fans will continue to LOVE Harry Potter, and generations from now, we’ll see new fans discovering it and reviving the love for it, too. Some will grow out of it, but it will continue to be loved, just maybe not in the same way as before. I will say, I’m super scared for the day they try to remake the series. That won’t go over too well! —Eliza, Content Team Manager
What do the next 20 years look like for MuggleNet?
As much as I wish I had Seer abilities to know for sure what the future holds for MuggleNet, I am unfortunately a Muggle. I don’t know where the franchise will take us after the remaining three Fantastic Beasts films, which are currently slated for release over the next 6–7 years. Will we see a Quidditch Through the Ages adaptation? Will there be an expansion of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter? Those are just some of the possibilities that we can currently imagine. At the pace they are producing content and expanding the world, we could be at this for another fifty years! What I do know, without a doubt, is that we will be here producing amazing videos, editorials, podcasts, and everything in between, all while continuing to be the #1 Wizarding World Resource Since 1999.  —Kat, Marketing Director

The Boss Baby
“The Boss Baby” surprised me and makes me think that critics were a little too harsh on this movie because they already made up their minds before watching.
Tim Templeton is a kid with an overactive imagination. He loves spending time with his parents and is showered with attention and adoration. When he learns that he’s going to get a baby brother, he freaks out because he’s scared that his parents won’t have time for him anymore. His fears are exasperated when he finds out that his baby brother could talk. The Boss Baby has been sent to Earth on a mission and needs the help of Tim to accomplish it. Their interests align and work together. On the way, they learn what it means to truly be brothers.
I’ll admit it. This movie surprised me. I know that when the trailers for this movie came out, the popular thing was to hate on it. Now, I’m not saying this is a masterpiece or anything. All I’m asking is to hear me out because this movie has valid merits that should be acknowledged. I get that this film is just another movie where the protagonists have a rivalry, but through a life-changing adventure learn to love one another. I get that this film uses by-the-books humor that is designed to make children laugh. I get all of that, but I still think it’s reductive to label the movie as just these bad qualities. For starters, I think everyone could agree that the movie is animated beautifully. Sure, there were some moments that looked a bit off, but the scenes that show a glimpse into Tim’s imagination were handled with such style and flair. There were a lot of low-hanging fruit jokes because this movie was marketed towards kids, but I’m happy to say that there were a lot of jokes slipped in here for the adults watching that I personally thought were funny and sometimes even clever. This whole concept initially seemed to revolve around the sight-gag of seeing a baby in a business suit. Although that might be true from a surface-level glance, I think making the baby a cold businessman really lent to the overall journey, message, and theme of the entire movie. Plus, it makes sense from a narrative perspective. Tim is telling the story as an adult. Some people claim that the movie made no sense, but that’s fine in my eyes. After all those years, of course, Tim’s not going to remember all the details perfectly. He was a kid with an overactive imagination. Wanting Tim to tell the story using purely empirical facts is just absurd. Also, he’s telling the story to his daughter. I think many parents out there mess around with the facts of stories to make them more exciting or to focus on a specific lesson that they’re trying to teach. The story could be forgiven for omitting a few steps of logic as long as it was still coherent if you just went along with it. Still, that doesn’t excuse this movie’s forced plot moments that get resolved instantly through no trial, tribulation, or even introspection. Those plot moments, like for example, the airport scene, just made it feel like they were shoved in there to meet some sort of story writing quota. It made it feel like this movie was going through the motions of the genre. Still, the message of the story resonated with me and I think it’s a great message to teach kids. If you disagree with me, that’s perfectly fine. I just wanted to fight on the side of this movie because I enjoyed it and thought it was being unfairly criticized. This is a fun family movie that has something for both the kids and parents and also has a great message to teach kids.
