here's my problem since some people want to ignore genuine criticism and act like anyone who is criticizing the writing or the pacing is "not accepting things we accepted in s1" by comparing this to doomcoming
doomcoming is. i cannot stress it enough. an episode where the characters are drugged and high on shrooms. when they chase travis and when they nearly kill him we are SHOWN they see a stag
now yes you can compare their doomcoming hallucinations to the hallucinations of it chooses but even the framing isn't really on your side here is it? when the show wants you to doubt to what extent they're really even aware of what they're doing or the level of.. delusion present it has absolutely no problem showing you that! we saw them having an ancient greek feast while ripping apart jackie's body and we saw too many near death hallucinations and other hallucinations to even COUNT on one hand
so they're aware of what they're doing when they draw the cards. while they were shown to NOT BE during doomcoming at least while it happened. and now the question is do you think we have reached that point? if you do i'm happy for you genuinely. i wish i agreed. but i just do not. when they agreed to do this they agreed to not only potentially get themselves killed they also agreed to the death of their loved ones if they draw the card. why was van shown doubting everything she believed in (including lottie that goes without saying) in the previous ep and now willing to get herself or taissa killed for a ritual meant to save lottie? and don't Tell me what you think. i am capable of making up an explanation. i can come up with a bunch of theories. but there is No exploration of that in the actual show. why was taissa fine with this? why was nat? do i think those characters are all such lottie believers they'd go to those lengths? no not really cause all they were really doing before was having dbt group therapy with lottie and then lottie proceeded to fail in all her predictions about the baby
there were absolutely ways to make this more believable (like! maybe show nat and travis get injured while trying to hunt and they start thinking it's because lottie isn't blessing them before they leave anymore. show everyone lost without someone to look up to. put more focus on how hungry they are. maybe use some makeup to make them look more malnourished. show taissa's actual sleepwalking come back - and yes i know there was that one other taissa scene but it wasn't quite enough for me to buy that tai would be all for this. unless they're pulling another Other Tai Did This surprise but it's getting a little old imo) but they rushed through it in a way super jarring. and no it shouldn't be! yes it should still be shocking but we START the show with those murder cannibalism rituals. we watch the show to find out how it happened exactly. every single viewer should be watching this feeling overwhelming dread because it FEELS inevitable that they'll decide to do this. we should be quite horrified but we should also be 100% convinced that's the choice all those characters would make. this scene is what all those 18 episodes led to and regardless of whether someone liked it or not the overwhelming majority seemed to be shocked this happened already. which. quite literally means the build up wasn't there

An Angel And A Demon With Freaky Eyes - Crack Fic
Read on Ao3:
Or just read it here lol:
Crowley and Azirphale had just had an exquisite dinner at the Ritz. Well, Aziraphle was the only one who had the dinner part of it. Crowley just watched him the whole time and rambled on about what can only be presumed dolphins and ducks. But, they decided afterward, as routine, to go back to the bookshop and drink copious amounts of alcohol. More copious amounts of alcohol. So here they are, sitting in the back of the bookshop, sharing some bottles of wine, drunk as ever. Actually, mainly just Crowey.
“Why do some of your old lot have gold teeth?”
“Hm?”
“Gold teeth. S’ it like, a purposeful thing or just something they have?”
“I'm gonna say just something they have. I've never really looked into it, there really is no point.”
“Why don't you have any?
Aziraphale paused. “Any gold teeth?”
“No- well yes-” He flaps his hands around. “Like, the gold all over your face. You don't have any. Or any weird features.”
“I don't know.”
“Maybe s’ your abnormally blonde hair…”
“How, exactly, is that abnormal?”
“S’ almost white!”
“Yes but that's not anything abnormal.” Aziraphale sat for a moment. “I actually happen to quite like my hair.”
“I'm not saying I don't like your hair, Angel. S’ just that everybody’s got some weird aspect and you're just—” He hiccups. “Blonde.”
“Well, I guess I just never got any of the gold- er- additions? I'm not quite sure what to call them.”
“Ok but like, even demons have the weird stuff on their corporation, or just abilities I guess. There was this lower demon named Eric Eric who had a bunch of clones of himself he could ma- Im getting off track. But how come I get freaky eyes and you don't get something weird?” He sips the wine. “S’ a bit unfair if you ask me.”
“Hm, I don't quite know how to answer that.”
“Ok, maybe it's something you aren't thinking of.”
“Like what, exactly?”
“Like- do you have any” he swooshes his hand around. “Freaky occult–”
“-celestial-”
“ –abilities or something?”
“Not that I know of, no.”
“Any physical features nobody else has? Like, I don't know… er… s’ like something.”
“Hm… well suppose I might.”
“Oh I need to sober up for this” Crowley grimaces as the alcohol stream leaves his body. He then focuses his attention back on Aziraphale, rather the taste left in his mouth. “Hit me.”
“Erm, well, I was told I have an odd amount of eyes.”
Crowley goes silent. “Uh. S’ two not normal?”
“No, no. I have more than that dear.”
Crowley's eyebrows shoot to the top of his forehead. “What?”
“I can't exactly count them all though…”
“Ok, Angel, I think you understand how much I NEED to see this.”
“Alright,” He sits up more as Crowley leans in. Aziraphale closes his eyes then when he goes to open them multiple other sets open around his face and neck, but not crowding over the others. “That's better.” He cracks his neck back and forth.
Crowleys could feel his already open eyes, somehow, open more wide. He stared at Aziraphale. He had pale blues and browns for the colors. IIt startled him at first but he had to admit, and in an odd way it was quite beautiful. They almost looked as if they were glowing in the bookshop's yellow lighting.
“This is’ when you say ‘BE NOT AFRAID’, Angel.”
“Oh, stop. It's not that terrifying.”
“Not that terri- Angel, you have like… a million sets of eyes!”
“Erm, well a few millions."
"Holy- I was being dramatic!"
"Oh, right" Aziraphale chuckles nervously.
"I always wondered why angels were depicted with so many eyes, guess this is my answer."
"Yeah, humans are quite terrified of them. I can just close them though, so its not much of a problem."
"I guess this is why angels actually have to tell you not to be afraid…"
"I had to apologize on my part for that."
"I was joking! Wait, seriously?"
"Yes seriously. In Eden Adam and Eve first thought of me a demon."
"SERIOUSLY?" Crowley smirked and laughed a bit as Aziraphale scoffed.
"You don't have to be rude."
"No no no! I apologize, I just," He wheezes. "I was not expecting that."
Aziraphale rolls his eyes and sips the wine he had forgotten they were drinking. Crowley's laugh dies down and he looks to Aziraphale.
"Ok, but really Angel, I love your freaky eyes."
"You're just saying that."
"No, I'm not! They are freaky but pretty. How's that?"
Aziraphale nods a little.
"Welcome to the freaky eye club." He tips his glass out a bit and they clink it as Aziraphale pretends not to be amused.
"Now," Crowley says, setting down his glass and taking out a camera. "say be not afraid PLEASE"
Aziraphale hits the camera out of his Crowley's hand offended as he laughs, once again, like a lunatic.
