Hey, I was just reading one of your FICS and suddenly I started to wonder about Zoro — or most strawhat — just jumping into the water whenever a devil fruit user falls into the sea, like because of Luffy the moment they hear the sound, their bodies just go into auto pilot.

Did Luffy — Robin, and Chopper— Pavlov them?

There's actually a scene in Zou where they're climbing up the elephant on the poorly drawn Ryunosuke; which of course means holding on tight since it's a poorly drawn dragon scaling a straight cliffside. But the second Luffy appears to fall off you see just how pissy Zoro gets, because Zoro knows, if he hears a splash he is going in that water. It doesn't matter how turbulent it is, how far the drop, how much an elephant might have just shit in it, he isn't even holding onto the dragon - his arms are folded over his chest this whole time - but you know the SECOND he hears that splash he's relaxing his thighs and taking a straight up dunk into that water.

I mean, just look at Zoro, Killer, Bepo, Rayleigh, Beckman. What do they all have in common? They have arms as thick as my thighs because these boys are use to dragging their captains up from the deepest depths (note: Rogers and Shanks might not have devil's fruits but that doesn't make them not fucking idiots. "There's a GODDAMN WHIRLPOOL and - you know what? I'll just drag his ass back to the shore myself, you guys just try and keep from dying while I'm gone.")

I believe that on your First Mate resume, one of the questions has to be, "how fast do you jump into the water after hearing a splash?" and if the answer isn't IMMEDIATELY you are OUT.

‘he was fine with this. he’d made peace with it. he could put down his sword, and leave it to the others to pick it back up & fight the good fight. he’d done his best.’

A loud ding startled Nanami awake. His vision suddenly flooded with bright light as the doors to the elevator of his apartment building opened. Hoovering there for him to walk through.

Nanami was confused. Had it all been a dream? He reached up to touch his face, scratching his non-existent beard, and felt everything was still there. It must have been a bad dream.

He walked through the elevator doors and to the door of his apartment. Not wanting to keep others waiting for their elevator.

Nanami opened the door to the apartment and was immediately greeted with the smell of fresh bread and his wife’s perfume. His favorite smell in the whole world. As if the thought summoned her, his wife rounded the corner with a bundle in her arms. “Nanami-kun! You’re home! We thought you’d be late today.”

He looked down in his wife’s arms at the bundle and saw a baby there. His baby. Their baby. That’s right, his wife had told him that she was pregnant not long ago. He thought he’d miss it when…..“Sorry. I didn’t think I’d be home so soon.”

“That’s ok.” She told him with a reassuring smile. Coming close to give him a kiss on the cheek. Careful to keep the baby safely between them. “You’re here now. That’s all that matters.”

He looked at his wife, and his son, and smelled the bread baking in the oven, and felt the warm light coming through the windows, and suddenly all those memories of that bad, bad dream flew away from him.

“Yes. I’m here now. That’s all that matters.”

Hey. what do you think homelander does?

obviously he had his work, his filming, his product placements and ads, his photo ops, his charity appearances and otherwise for Vought. I’m talking about outside of work. At 7:42 pm on a random Wednesday in November, what’s he up to? What does he do in his spare time? Does he have any hobbies?

i don’t think he does actually!! I think he may honest to god just wait around for the next role. For anyone to make him useful again.

Homelander is what Vought trained him into being, and that is tragic when he self destructs, but it is arguably even more so if and when he honestly has no idea what to do with himself without them. Like an abandoned toy, he can only do what he’s told. He’s only as good as the person commanding him decides he is.

i do love the tragedy of Homelander sitting inert in his penthouse unsure of what to do with himself in the quiet of a freedom that isn't quite freedom, especially when he was still young and fresh out of the lab.

however—and i've addressed this before—Homelander is a nerd. he has a lot of obscure trivia rattling around in his brain, and i think it's very likely, if not outright canon, that he's actually quite well read. especially regarding history.

it definitely started with his education from Vought, but imo history is something he took an independent interest in. i joke a lot about his penthouse being ugly and looking like the Smithsonian, but it makes total sense to me that it's the kind of thing he would take comfort in. he probably dreamed of visiting museums when he was still living in the lab.

he's also FULL of pop culture references (albeit dated ones) so we know he likely watches/watched a fair amount of tv, especially the news.

while i do agree that Homelander behaves more like a tool or a weapon than a person, he's also determined to be a useful tool. he initiates schemes in s1, he wants input on his image and within the company, he has goals and ideals. he's fighting desperately against the perception that he's no more than a "pretty face" who's just saying his lines ("Woop woop!") even in the early episodes of the first season.

What are you opinions are the 4 Seraphs/archangels Michael, Lucifer, Gabriel, Raphael?

Are they like brothers? or sibling rivalry? What do you think of Michael? I always thought fanon Michael will be just a dick compared to canon Michael we know.

Well we have a lot of thoughts in general about all the angels we know in the game, which we won't get all into here. This already got long so we're focusing more on the latter part of your question.

Obey Me has actually never made mention of Gabriel, despite him being a more known angel in pop culture. The only other angel they've mentioned, funny enough, is Uriel.

When we first meet Raphael in Season 4, you can also guess that his name is Uriel of the given options, to which Raphael scoffs that you're just throwing any angel name out there.

In Season 3, Angel Lucifer makes note of three other angels when he talks about turning to angels for advice -- all three of whom are established to have been among seraphim (though, as we know, Simeon was later demoted), though how many others there may be is unknown.

We also know that the Celestial Realm has everyone calling each other brothers and sisters, very much in that brothers-in-arms/sisters-of-the-convent kind of way.

From what we've seen, they seem to interact very much as both colleagues and friends, more than siblings per se. The only ones we know were treated and acted as actual siblings were Lucifer and The Brothers (+Lilith) since it seems Lucifer basically went and adopted all of them.

So yeah, it seems more like the seraphim and other high-ranking angels, for the most part, were a "work family" of sorts, more than literal siblings. And among them, there were some genuine friendships within that, in the way that work friendships sometimes form, and some tensions as well.

As for Michael ...

It's interesting because we've gotten to know very little about him, but what we have heard paints a certain picture. On one hand, he has been spoken of as someone who is also sadistic and a tough leader. Lucifer, the one who was most equal to him before the fall, describes him in the screenshot above as someone who "overcomplicates things and twists them into something they're not".

And although Raphael is consistently described as being somewhat close with Michael -- descriptions of him include being an assistant to Michael, "the only one who understands Michael", and the one whose job it was "to look after Michael's needs, no matter how unreasonable", plus the Nightbringer website also mentions in Raphael's bio that he chose to side against Lucifer in the war because "I can't abandon [Michael]" -- he's also the one who says he takes it "as an insult" to be mistaken for Michael, and then goes on to call Michael "a socially inept weirdo".

Michael also sent Simeon with a message to Diavolo that was basically a thinly veiled threat back in Season 2.

We also know he was quite upset with Simeon when the latter went and took the Ring of Light back, which did lead to Simeon being quite harshly punished.

On the other hand, we have had him be nice to MC (after initially thinking they would be wicked and awful because the demon bros adored them). We also know that he apparently does really miss and love the Brothers, both from that same conversation with MC and Luke, who has mentioned that sometimes Michael will stare sadly at the walls where their portraits used to hang.

Safe to say, he's another complicated character. That said, considering where Michael stood during the war and his more negative qualities, we totally get him being portrayed as more of a dick in fanon because, same. He could be both a character who did/does genuinely love the brothers and still has done things that are antagonistic -- and if anything, that makes him more interesting! Plus, his role in the Celestial Realm as effectively the leader of the angels only adds more inter-realm intrigue to how to interpret his actions. We're hoping we get to learn more about him in Nightbringer so we can get a better understanding of him!

As for the rest of them, we have too many opinions to really dive into analyzing all the characters you mentioned, but here's our previous analysis of Raphael mentions pre-Season 4 before they turned him into dirty sad dishwater.

And let's not count Jazz out of the sheer horror of what came out of their toaster oven. It was a Fenton team effort! And Yes. It was made in a toaster oven because I figure the stove of their very cheap place wasn't working. Toaster ovens aren't bad replacements for ovens but you gotta have a Quality one and they did not have quality.

I'm talking unevenly baked batch on the wrong setting, attempted frosting designs by putting said frosting in a sandwich bag, maybe even a fruit bag. The frosting was too runny and the cookies too warm. They tried to draw on a pattern for a cheery bat face onto the cookies with a straight up marker. Flat, dry cookies because Jazz could not justify the usage of a whole cup and 1/4th of sugar in a batch. (Cause c'mon look at baking recipes and how much sugar they use it's ridiculous.) not to mention a slightly off taste that no one can figure out.

The best part of the cookies would have been their shapes because Danny used his ghost ice to make the cookie cutters. But the cookies spread out too much and Jazz had to gently break them apart again. They are truly Terrible Things they have created. The only one that Likes the cookies is Jason 'I died and walked it off' Todd and I'll give you one guess on to why that is.

They absolutely did not start out well, you're right. The time period between Mezalea getting their freedom back and...about a hundred or so years after Joel became king? give or take? were very, very tense.

Diplomatic relationships between the two empires were planned meticulously. Especially on the Oceanic side because Lizzie was fully aware that was her bad. (It wasn't entirely hers, but when all was said and done she was the one that stepped up and took responsibility and put in the effort to fix the things she broke) Mezalea of course was wary and there was a lot of distrust towards the Ocean and also Joel himself (which was really hard for him) because by the time he came back he'd been gone for well over a hundred years and had only been seen by Mezaleans on formal occasions when he was attending on Lizzie's arm. His occasional actual trips back to Mezalea were just to see family and were much more low-key so the average citizen wouldn't even have been aware of them.

There was definitely a concern when he stepped up to the throne that it would basically just be returning to Oceanic rule. This is directly responsible for the way that Lizzie and Joel act towards each other in any kind of official capacity and generally in public in their empires. Very formal and proper and being careful to observe all the niceties.

Joel is better at this than Lizzie in that his Official BusinessTM moments are less likely to come off as overblown and theatrical, while she is better at it than him in that she is more likely to remember they are supposed to be observing the etiquette at any given time.

It's been a very long road. Somewhat ironically, Jimmy helped a lot. Little baby Jimmy loved running around the Mezalean docks asking questions of the dockhands and sailors and fishermen and trailing along in and alongside the fishing boats whenever he was allowed. And baby Jimmy was very, very cute.

He also spoke Mezalean like a native, which helped.

Is there any dad crocodile stuff you've been really itching to talk about or draw?

there’s a bunch of things ive really been wanting to draw! for starters the betrayal comic, nothing epic about it but it’ll be a lot of fun (for me only probably) because i haven’t drawn anything like this in a long long while! also two comics with croc i can’t wait to draw, funnily enough, both takes place in a bathroom. another one is about luffy being overstimulated during a party, there’s many more but i won’t say!

for things to talk about im not sure, that’s a bit vague, so some trivia:

-luffy has a pet bananawani that’s only a few years younger than him, as babies he would drag her around like a plushy (he still do it even as a young adult tbh), her name is Miss Mini Sorbet (crocodile picked it), she’s unusually small for a bananawani (the size of a regular irl croc) and albino (white-yellowish with pink eyes(wanted her to remind of gear 5 luffy, no reasons in particular tho)). she’s actually meant to debut in the next comic!

-croc has stretch marks!!

-both mihawk and luffy are canonically autistic in this au, ive drawn them as the autism creatures but writing it just in case.

-robin and bonclay becomes friends! sharing drinks and clothes and spends time together even when luffy isn’t there.

-luffy has helped croc cut his hair a few time and croc usually takes cares of luffy’s.

-luffy, croc and mihawk once played poker together, surprisingly enough it’s croc who had the most trouble, between mihawk’s impassible expression and luffy going ‘ooh’ ‘woah’ at his own cards despite having bad hands and having so many things that could’ve been tells but weren’t, it was a nightmare for croc.

-mishanks divorce canon btw.

Did you hear that HBO Max is getting rid of Infinity Train, OK K.O, and a bunch of other shows permanently?

Yes and I am DEVASTATED!!!!! Luckily OK KO is still on Hulu (out of order, unfortunately) and Infinity Train has at least Book One and Book Two on DVD (though Owen Dennis, the creator, is actively supporting the piracy of his show), but the fact that others may become lost media as a result of this Warner Discovery merger? Unacceptable and disrespectful to everyone who watched and ESPECIALLY those who worked on these shows!!!!!!! Now new generations of kids and animation lovers will never get to enjoy these already underrated shows!!!!!!!!

For those who don't know, HBO Max is taking down a bunch of content from their library THIS WEEK so that they don’t have to pay residuals to creators and so that they can claim them on their taxes, as Warner was apparently in serious debt. I'm not 1000% sure about the details so I could be wrong, but regardless, a ton of wonderful content is being taken away from us due to corporate greed. tbh, i think the whole thought process behind how sylvie is written is that she is not attached to loki and her happiness doesn't at all depend on him in any way.

was their connection deep? did he impact her? "shatter" her world even? yes. this is why she is so angry at him. bc in her mind, he had betrayed her.

but he doesn't take up much more space in her mind. she goes on to live her life just fine without him at the end of both seasons.

loki is a different story, he is obsessed with her to the point of doing something completely "out of character" and being ready to sacrifice everything for her.

i personally love how "unequal" their relationship is in this way, but i understand that it's not the majority of shippers' cup of tea kind of dynamic.

this is an interesting interpretation! i enjoy getting to hear people's differing takes on their dynamic, so this was a fun read. and hey if unrequited is your trope then all the more power to you. you're braver than me, that's for sure.

i haven't rewatched s2 (and tbh idk if i ever will- it just didn't do it for me the way i wanted it to) but the consensus that "loki fell first and harder" def seems supported by s1 and enhanced by s2. which i think made it all the more shocking when she kisses him first. i love that little detail.

i have a different take, which is informed by episode 5- particularly the bar scene contrasted with the record shop scene. she tells him to go and live his life and move on, then immediately goes to a record shop, tells the man at the counter she had a bad day, and then cries to the velvet underground (it looked like crying, also possible she was just laying there and basking it all in, which is just as compelling in my opinion).

to me that read as someone who is trying so hard to place their feelings in a convenient little box and ignore them and then running away when it doesn't work.

sylvie doesn't strike me as someone who can sit still, especially not after living through a million apocalypses and trying to ensure her survival. and while getting a job in oklahoma might not be the same frantic pace she's used to, i do think she threw herself into it (employee of the month placard i'm looking at you!) so she has a new life, a new job, time to do things like go to the bar and get a haircut and listen to music and do everything possible to just. not. process. the annoying feelings that the citadel situation brings up. just keep moving! just don't think about it! and so when loki rolls up at her work, she tries to push him away, tell him he's the last thing she wants to deal with, get him to leave. the tone in the bar scene felt like that to me as well. like she's saying just leave me so i can stop thinking about this.

of course, loki does not want to leave her- it's just that for some reason he is physically incapable of talking about anything but the TVA, who ruined her life and she justifiably wants nothing to do with hearing about how great they actually are. he is pretty skilled at killing the mood. (i take great pleasure in rewrite fics that make a show of addressing this)

am i blinded by shipping goggles and my own projection onto her? it's possible! but to me it read as someone in denial. when we hear sylvie talk about her love life on the train in s1 (a scene i LOVE because it seems so out of left field for her) we get a very clear sense she has no idea what she is doing when it comes to romance (and then flat out says so during the blanket scene). her experience with romance hasn't been anything real, to the point where i hesitate to even use the term "romance"- just centuries of numbing herself by staying busy with a fling. she is like a shark that will just collapse if she stops moving. which we get to see her do in the record store!

that's just how i read it though! your read on it is just as valid and i like hearing all of the different takes. i am by no means trying to persuade you to join my pining sylvie agenda, just using this blog as a means of idea exchange. which i love doing. seriously it's so fun.
