The gist:
1. Start seeds indoors. Do this about six to eight weeks before the last frost date. It can help to soak your seeds in water 24 hours prior to planting. This will help soften the hard outer shell around each seed and make it easier for them to germinate.
2. Harden off indoor seedlings before taking outdoors full time.
2. Plant them in mounds. You should plant your seeds in little hills, each of which should be about a foot apart along a fence or something else that your loofah vines can climb.
3. If growing directly outside, once each plant is about two inches tall, thin to a single plant (choose the healthiest one and cull the rest).
4. If you’ve already planted your loofah gourds and a cold snap threatens, put a cloche over your seedlings. This can be as simple as a plastic soda bottle cut in half with a few air holes.
5. Prevent deformed fruits by checking them as they grow and making sure they aren't getting trapped in a fence.
6. Choose the right variety. There are actually two species of gourds that are referred to as loofahs - Luffa aegyptiaca and Chinese okra. You want luffa acuntangular, also known as smooth luffa, Egyptian luffa, gourd luffa, or dishrag gourd.
7. Use diatomaceous earth in the late summer. In the late summer and early fall, when your plants have produced fruits that are almost ready for harvest, you may want to apply a light dusting of diatomaceous earth. This will help prevent squash beetles, creatures who can decimate loofah plants.
8. When it comes time to harvest, make sure you know the ideal time to do so. Usually, you will want to harvest once the vines have died back, before the first frost in the fall. To remove your loofahs, pinch or cut them off at the vine. This will leave the plant in good stead if there are other gourds that will need to ripen. If a frost threatens, harvest your loofah sponges. Even if they are still green, it’s better to harvest them before the frost hits, as this will lead to premature rot.
9. Prepare your sponges. You will need to do a bit of prep work to get your gourds ready for clean-up. Position your luffa gourd on a solid, flat surface. Use a stone or a rolling pin to remove the dried exterior skin. After you’ve removed both the seeds and the skin, there will be a black, brown, or yellow material underneath. Then soak this material in a solution of bleach water. Rinse them afterward with a few squirts from a hose at high pressure. This will remove any remaining seeds, mold, or rotten material. Allow the loofahs to dry in direct sunlight and a light breeze for a couple of days. Turn them regularly to make sure they dry evenly.

Dorm Leader’s Drinks
Based on this post here. Kudos to @scertifiedsavanaclawstan. Check them out before you keep going here.
This is my interpretation of the drinks’ descriptions I saw in the linked post above. I love Twisted Wonderland (although the ENG devs did us dirty on Chapter 5) and this was just an excuse to see how these drinks would be in real life.
Warning: Alcohol (respective TWST characters are obviously aged up [pretty sure they’re in some AU if memory serves]) Minors DNI. You have been warned. None of the cocktails were my idea (reference the linked post above).
I repeat: Minors. Do. Not. Interact.
Always Drink Responsibly (or better yet, don’t [your future self will thank you for this]). Exact recipes will not be posted and several key ingredients will be omitted.
Riddle’s Screaming Rose
Tumblr media
From OP’s post, the Screaming Rose is supposed to be “SWEEET [...] flavored like strawberry and is good with food.” What the drink’s image and description reminded me of is a strawberry caipirinha/caipiroska, but instead I chose to make a sweet forward cocktail based on a Strawberry Smash. With a sweet, aged dark rum and a little amaretto liqueur, this shaken cocktail uses a rich 2:1 simple syrup, and fresh muddled strawberries to produce a cocktail that is not only very sweet but also fruity and a nice addition to any meal.
However, I may have overdone it with the amaretto. Because I did not have access to any strawberry liqueur, I felt as if the minty amaretto would be a nice addition to the tart-sweet of the strawberries, but ended up slightly overpowering it. In the future, I would use more strawberries (either in puree or liqueur form) and maybe a few drops of rosewater. Overall, the drink is a 7.5/10.
Leona’s Purring Kitten
Tumblr media
Now, this drink was a grand slam. Because the “drink of his is made with coffee” and can be “bitter” for some, this was very similar to a White Russian. However, instead of heavy cream or bailey’s as a float, I made whipped cream with a healthy dose of Rumchata to replace the cinnamon sticks appearing in the drink as well as forming the whipped cream dollop (although, I mistook Kalim’s drink with Leona’s so it came with an entire whipped cream float Whoops).
Like the description, this drink is bitter due to the coffee, but is very nice when mixed with the Rumchata whipped cream. I would have lessened the amount of cream put into the drink. Also, the animal cracker was a nice addition, making this a very delicious dessert cocktail. Definite 9/10
Azul’s Mermaid’s Tears
Tumblr media
Oh, Great Sevens, Azul! Our only Martini and you had to have a “taste in drinks [that] was boring” (Floyd) and “tastes...healthy?” From the description and appearance of a drink served up and with edible flowers and a salt rim, it got me thinking of a Blue Margarita. However, keeping with Azul being from the ocean, I chose to use a lightly aged Puerto Rican Rum (to at least make this a little tropical) and a few drops of orange blossom water for some crisp, floral notes.
I definitely overdid the half-salt rim. But, this drink was sadly exactly what I pictured: boring (according to Floyd), ...fine (according to Jade), and while not healthy tasting (technically since the healthiest drink in the world is Dihydrogen monoxide), it does make for a decent-ish drink that while I would drink once, would probably not order again. Azul, get a friggin’ Mai Tai, a Zombie, a Rum Punch—anything else! GDI! 6/10
Kalim’s Sleepy Tiger
Tumblr media
With Kalim’s drink, I did not have much to go on. Other than the drink being “a mango-infused spirit with whipped cream” before the addition of date syrup (which I could not find dates to make into a syrup), it was the most mysterious. Luckily, I had extra whipped cream batched for Leona’s drink, so I decided to make another dessert-style cocktail. Using Casamigos Reposado (a reposado tequila with notes of dried fruits and vanilla/cocoa), chocolate liqueur, a few other ingredients, and mango simple syrup, I managed to create a cocktail I think best resembled the drink.
At first, the flavors clashed between the whipped cream and the drink itself. However, this drink reminded me of a mango milkshake and slowly began to taste great. In the future, I would substitute the tequila with a rum (maybe a demerrara rum), but would risk ruining the vibrant orange color of the drink. 6.5/10
Vil’s Cranky Virgin
Tumblr media
I had high hopes to make this drink amazing, as Vil (whether canon or AU) is a perfectionist. The drink is described as “appropriately expensive tasting, made with apple syrup and a VERY herbaceous liquor,” as well as being garnished with red apple slices and rosemary. Immediately, I knew gin was the key spirit, but it couldn’t be anything but Empress 1908 Gin. This indigo-colored gin is distilled with eight botanicals, including butterfly pea flower, that turns into a vibrant purple when mixed with citrus. Although the description described “apple syrup” I added rosemary when making a custom apple simple syrup to enhance the herbal notes of the spirit. A tiny amount of grenadine was added at the bottom to give the syrup its red hue.
While not as purple as I would like it to be (possibly due to the addition of too much grenadine) the drink tasted like a classic, fruity, herbal Tom Collin’s. The rosemary may have been slightly overpowering and I would have appreciated more of an apple taste. In the future, the simple syrup would probably be made with apple juice instead of water or be simmered with apples for a longer time. I will definitely be revisiting this drink later on. 7/10 Don’t curse me, Vil!
Idia’s Gamer Rage
Tumblr media
Did you know how hard it was to find Blue Raspberry Soda!? Well, I couldn’t find the damn thing, so I did the next best thing. For a “boozy root beer float” with blue raspberry flavor, I used a clear raspberry soda mixed with blue curaçao and a vanilla bean ice cream float and a cherry on top.
Now, lemme tell you sumthin’, I wanted to not like this drink. Idia’s not my favorite character, but goddamn if this drink wasn’t good. I love ice cream sodas, Italian sodas, etc., and Idia’s Gamer Rage was no different. This was probably one of the top three drinks because it is a simple concept (unlike Vil’s or Kalim’s) and the combination was solid. Sweet, bubbly, and creamy. 8.5/10
Malleus’ Dragon’s Tantrum
Tumblr media
I had already covered Malleus’ drink prior to making everything here, but to summarize, the Dragon’s Tantrum has a lot of “lime mixed with [...] absinthe [that] makes it a drink almost no one other than Malleus orders.” I couldn’t use absinthe as the main spirit due to it having a super high alcohol percentage and turning cloudy when mixed with water. However, a Midori Sour is a perfect drink to have a large absinthe rinse.
I love absinthe (only buy the real stuff). Although Midori is a sweet melon liqueur, the Dragon’s Tantrum is very absinthe forward with hints of licorice and star anise and sour at the end that makes you pucker a bit. For those who love sours, this is a wonderful drink that outclasses (in my opinion) everything on this list. Solid 9/10
Final Thoughts
The drinks were a blast to make. I had always wanted to make cocktails based on the characters of the games I play (I’m looking at you, Ikemen Sengoku), and while I never imagined doing one for Twisted Wonderland, this post inspired me to exercise my growing knowledge of mixology and cocktails. Thanks so much to the OP, @scertifiedsavanaclawstan. Bartender!Yuu has their work cut out for them. As always:
Drink Responsibly or stick to water (your future self and liver will thank you) Cheers!

Yellow Chamomile
(Elain Archeron Week 2022. Day 2. Hobbies.)
Tumblr media
Feyre can’t sleep. Not while Nyx is screaming from the top of his lungs night after night. Rhys paces beside her. He tried to take Nyx twice, his screams increasing terribly, small wings trashing on his back, the door panels rattling beside her. Rhys let Feyre take him back, violet eyes filled with pain and concern, desperate to find another way to sooth his son. There isn’t any. Nyx is cramping, and only his momma's lap is good enough to tone his crying down a notch, but not enough to calm him completely. He cries himself to sleep, her sister ehxausted on the armchair. Rhys carefully lifting the baby from her arms, placing him in the soft cradle.
“Go to bed, darling.”
“I can't sleep. I can’t stop worrying about him.”
Elain watches from the doorway, similar black circles under her eyes. Nyx's cry is not the only one plaging her nights, the women scream louder them him, bagging in their cells, trapped in their suits of feathers. She pads back to her room, changing from her night clothes, grabbing the reliable leather journal from her bedside table.
While Feyre fills canvas with images, Elain fills pages with words.
She lost count of how many jornauls she filled, page after page overflowing with words. Snippets of turbulent dreams, notes taken sideways to add on a recipe, names of medicinal plants, mixes of poisonous leaves she hopes never having to use, translations of old antidotes, terms and people to research for later, his preferred sweets, his disliked dishes. The contents vary with the same speed as they do in her mind; no clear pattern; no topic untouched. She aims for the backyard, flicking through the texts with easy, vaguely aware of were the brew might be scribbled. Its an ambitious combination. Each plant favors a different season and needs different amounts of time to sprout and ripe. Such details mattered not in the hands of Elain. Her goal was set, they would bloom for her.
The mighty starry sky of Night Court iluminates the garden perfectly, as if it was expecting her to come here, the bright full moon shinning amongst the twinkling colorful dots. Watching her. Pleased. The owl sits in the brach of the neast tree, perfectly white feathers and pitch black eyes, cooing in Elain's direction. The owl is coming so often Elain is thinking about naming it.
Elain planted the chamomiles that night. Twenty-three days of careful tending, her green thumb speding the process with an efficience never seen by her. The lavender bloomed faster, other ingredients maturing with similar speed. Elain plucked every leaf and bud with her bare hands, choosing the healthiest candidates one by one –they looked different in her eyes, the scent stronger, the color vibrant, covered in midnight sparks, softly coaxing her.
Pick me.
Choose me.
She did. Elain hummed blessing each one before setting them in a drying rack. Not that anyone would ever know that. Not that she knew that.
Feeling satisfied with the dried brachs, she separeted them, crushing the ingredients with the help of a wood pestle, mixing it all in a cylindrical shaped glass container, a cork serving as lid. A par of intricated whorls flashed in her mind, she dips one of Feyre's old brushes under current water, trying to replicate the coils on the bottom of the glass in a way that would dry and fade in seconds, a faint gild following each trace, obscured from other eyes. After days of dedication, Elain held the fruit of her love in her hands.
The perfect concoction.
That night Elain used the mix to brew her sister tea, Feyre ingesting the fragrant drink before breastfeeding. When Rhys picked his son up to burp he didn't cry for leaving his mother; he farted. Nyx farted so loud the three adults startled, the tiny baby could not care less about their reaction, stretching on his father's chests, letting out everything that was bothering him. Feyre, Rhys and Elain starred at each other for a moment, laughter bursting in the previously tense room.
It's amazing how a creature so tiny had a hold so strong in all of them.
Nyx wasn't the only one affected by the tea, Feyre was feeling more relaxed, her constant alert state finally setting down watching her baby dosing peacefully. That night, she and Nyx slept in Elain's bed, the precious baby slumbering between the sisters, their hands meeting over his cute bum. Feyre eyed Elain, her brown eyes glued to her son, nothing but love shining in them. She squeezed her hand.
"I'm so glad you're here, Lana." Elain's attention slid from the beautiful baby to her little sister, a content smile on her face, sleep urging her blue eyes to shut down. "I love you," she whispers. Elain feels like crying, she can't help but stretch over her nephew and kiss her little sister's hair.
"I love you too Fey. Go to sleep."
Feyre lets out a long breath, burring her head deeper in her pillow. They sleep together as they did so many times in the past, their connection stronger than ever, their love the little man sleeping between them tangible in the air. It's her first dreamless night in weeks.

Wonderful meal to Start your Morning.
While my fiance and I take time to find ourselves in separation. He has encouraged me to eat more of a Raw Vegan. Coming from a Man who I would call Omnivore and me Vegan at home and when I eat out Vegetarian at best.
He enjoyed this meal when I saw him the other week when we met up, he said the sauces tasted like a sauce from Arby's (it had been watered down in a meal prep kit more on this below on how to store this meal)
I was actually surprised at how full I was. I haven't eaten meat in 14 years but that doesn't mean I've eaten the healthiest but I get healthier each year and learn more about health (along with my fiancé, who encouraged me to bring any dairy products home as I've been Vegan many times) not only was I full I loved the taste of it. I'm a huge fan of tomatoes.
Even though my Sid Vicious and I are separated he's made a point to tell me not to eat anything with White Bread, Wheat, Rice and what can I say but he is right I bought Dave's Killer Bread my favorite bread but I did feel more tired the rest of the week
More onto this Recipe
I used 1 or 2 Zucchinis and spiralled them. Then pinched them so it is easier to eat.
The sauce is
Handful of cherry tomatoes
A few spoon fulls of Sun Dried Tomatoes
Add in some fresh herbs like Basil, Cilontro, Spinach
No cooking just blend it all right up. Also if you want it more creamy you can add Tofu if someone does not have a Soy Allergy or Soaked or Unsoaked Cashews&Pine Nuts blended with Tomatos into a creamy paste add more tomatoes as they have natural amount of Water in them that includes nutritions. Or even better if you own a juicer to juice tomatoes and use the Juice to blend with the Cashews and Pine Nuts first. Then add Cherry Tomatoes, Sun Dried and herbs adding Spinach will add extra Protein to this meal there is Calcium in Spinach as well in the Cashews and Pine Nuts the Tomatos are loaded with Vitamin C, if not more than a Orange
Notes
Taking this meal on the go.
Do not pour the sauce on top or in the zucchini noodles store in a separate container and drain water from Zucchini noodles.
You can also use Cucumbers and April them or a mix of the both.
Adding in more vegetables like Red Peppers to the sauce or small amounts of carrots to not over power
Soak Walnuts overnight to as a crumble.
If you're new to Raw Veganism, or Veganism, Vegetarianism, looking to Add more Fresh Vegetables, Nuts, Seeds, Fruits into your diet I hope this has reached you. This is a easy recipe that can be done early in the morning I would suggest Unless you feel sick as in you need to drink water or eat something to drink Juice in the morning.
If you have a Blender blend vegetables and then strain the pulp/fiber. Drinking Vegetables Juice, Ginger Shots, and small amounts of Fruit Juice first thing you start your Day, Afternoon, Night whichever you get your little or a lot of sleep will help with the Nutrition going straight into your blood stream and system. This is also why we want to avoid too much fruit as the sugar goes straight to your blood stream as well.

Emergency Calories (0-1 Spoon)
Food can be a struggle on really bad days, no matter what the circumstances are. You hurt too much to make something, or maybe it’s the thought of the dishes afterwards that’s too daunting to bear. Maybe you’re too brain-fogged for whatever reason to decide on a thing to actually make, or hyperfocused too long on something and come out of it so hungry that it’s turned to nausea and/or headache, and the thought of any real food is sickening. Either way, the problem’s the same - too much hunger, not enough spoons to fix the problem.
The way I’ve found to deal with that is to keep a small stock of emergengy calories on hand; the kind of thing that needs minor preparation at most, and at most one dish and a utensil. Most of them don’t even need that much. Sometimes, just the act of cramming some emergency calories into my face has unlocked enough spoons to be able to manage an actual meal. So here’s a list of the emergency calories that have been my saviours, particularly since my fibromyalgia diagnosis.
Peanuts: zero prep, zero utensil, zero spoons. Peanuts (and most other nuts, if you’ve got a peanut allergy) are high in protein and fat, because nut oil, and while not particularly high in carbs, they’ve got enough to be going on with. This makes them a quick-burn and a slow-burn food, and can be supplemented with other things that are higher in carbohydrates to get more of a quick pick-me-up. Thing is, it’s the longer-term energy that I tend to be going for when I shove a handful of peanuts into me, since I’m generally hoping that it’ll perk me up enough to make an actual meal. That’s why I keep a bag of salted peanuts in the cupboard; if I can’t make myself prepare anything and need something a little more substantial than the usual snack foods, I’ll just pour myself a handful and munch.
Dried fruit: zero prep, utensils, and spoons, at least in terms of consumption. I have a whole entry planned about why a dehydrator is the best investment anyone who lives with a really tight spoon budget can make, but if you don’t have one, store-bought dried fruit is fine. A little expensive, maybe, but sticking with raisins helps with that, and getting those little snack-boxes of raisins may end up a nice little nostalgia trip back to elementary school lunches and that one trick-or-treat house no one really wanted to go to because the raisins weren’t even chocolate-coated. For something that feels a little more prepared and tastes a little more interesting, mixing raisins and peanuts is really nice, giving an interesting range of textures and flavours. Sometimes a handful of peanuts plus a little box of raisins can unlock a whole spoon with which to cook an actual meal, I’ve found.
Potato chips: zero prep, utensils, and spoons. Maybe not the healthiest choice, but sometimes it’s the only choice. They recommend plain salted chips (or crisps) for chemotherapy patients for a reason; they’re easy on the stomach and help replenish lost salts. Whether they’re fixing a salt deficiency, fixing a blood sugar deficiency, or just a placebo, I don’t care; I find a little bag of crisps settles my stomach when I’ve left it too long between meals and have the nausea as a result.
Rice cakes or crackers: minimal-to-zero prep, utensils, and spoons. It all depends on how you’re eating them. You can have them plain - they even have flavoured rice cakes now - and that takes no spoons or anything. On the other hand, if you’re up to picking up a knife or pulling something out of the fridge, rice cakes and crackers are a good, light, easy-on-the-stomach alternative as a vessel for something that actually tastes of something. For instance:
Peanut butter: minimal prep, utensils, and spoons. Peanut butter (or any other nut butter, again accounting for allergies) can be eaten with a finger out of the jar if you’re really having a bad day, but if you can manage a spoon, just eating a couple of spoonfuls from the jar works just as well. There’s also the option of dipping something like dried banana or apple chips or something into the peanut butter and eating it that way, if you’ve gone the dried fruit route. However, if you can manage a knife and maybe a plate, this provides scope for peanut butter sandwiches or just peanut butter spread on rice cakes. If inspired that way, there could even be PB&J. It’s shelf-stable, so it doesn’t go bad very quickly, and has the same basic benefits as the nuts on their own. Maybe more sugar and/or salt, is all.
Sliced lunch meat: minimal-to-zero prep, utensils, and spoons. Like the rice cakes - in fact, part of why the rice cakes are there is because they can be part of a low-spoon charcuterie board sort of set-up. Way less expensive than Lunchables. Or, if you just need some protein that isn’t a nut, just roll up a piece of whatever lunch meat you’ve picked up and nosh away. Same basic thing as jerky or dried sausages, but both those can be kind of salty and a bit more effort to eat than someone might be up for, and both are a lot harder to put on a cracker.
Cheese: minimal-to-zero prep, utensils, and spoons. Whether real cheese, Kraft Singles, or some lactose-free version of cheese, it’s still got protein and fat and is useful for something you can just quickly eat right out of the fridge, or spread on crackers if it’s cream cheese or soft cheese, or slap together a cheese sandwich with. A versatile way of getting your protein in on the same tier as the lunch meat.
The deciding factors on all of these are how long they take to go bad. Fresh fruit is a great snack but any time you buy fruit, you’re making a commitment to either eating it all before it goes off or wasting food, and that latter’s a pretty common outcome, particularly when some of one’s symptoms can lead to forgetfulness. That’s another one I’ll point out in the dehydrator-related entry, but for now, sticking strictly with the basics - that these are good, solid snack options for days when there are just no spoons left, and are sometimes effective enough to replenish a spoon for cooking a real meal. Just the one, generally, but it’s like one of those tiny minor mana potions you get in video games; sometimes that one spoon is the difference between getting something done and not. It’s enough, sometimes.
These are just my recommendations for the little essentials that should be sitting in the cupboard somewhere in case of emergencies - the kinds of things that I’ve learned will keep me going when I’m struggling and too hungry to function. If you’ve got any further ideas for little snacks for bad days, additions are welcome. I haven’t put soups in here because they’re not really near-instant calorie sources; I’ll touch on soups another time.

What Fruits Can Dogs Eat?
Tumblr media
You already know that fruit is important for keeping yourself healthy, but did you know that it’s great for your dog, too? While dogs don’t need fruit to be at their healthiest, the addition of fresh fruits to your pup’s normal diet, with permission and instructions from your vet, can provide them with an added boost of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, as well as some always-welcome extra hydration.
An important thing to remember, however, when it comes to feeding your dog fruit is that while many fruits are great for dogs, not all of them are. In addition to checking out our list of the fruits that you shouldn’t feed your furry friend at the bottom of this page, you should also be sure to pay attention to how your dog responds to certain fruits. If you notice signs of an upset stomach or other discomfort, don’t feed them that type of fruit anymore—even if it’s otherwise safe for them.
Now that we’ve got that important disclaimer out of the way, let’s get to it. Here are 10 of the best fruits to feed dogs.
Apples
An apple a day might not keep the vet away, but slices or otherwise small bits of apple make excellent treats and meal toppers. Just be sure not to feed your dog any apple seeds, since they contain small amounts of cyanide and also pose a choking risk.1
Benefits:
Help clean teeth and freshen breath.
Contain vitamin A, vitamin C, and fiber, and there are also phytochemicals in the skin, which have been found to combat the growth of cancer cells in laboratory studies.2
Bananas
Bananas have a ton of health benefits for our furry friends. They’re also innately portable, making them a good snack to bring along for the two of you to share on long walks.
Benefits:
The fiber in bananas may be good for your dog's digestion.3
Contain high amounts of potassium, fiber, and vitamin C.
Blackberries
It’s safe to share blackberries with your pooch, though use your best judgment in terms of cutting them up into smaller bites. Stick to sweeter blackberries, instead of tart ones, which your dog will likely prefer.
Benefits:
May have antibacterial properties that support good oral health.4
Contain vitamins C and K, manganese, and fiber.
Blueberries
Dogs tend to love blueberries, which are already perfectly sized as treats for mouths both big and small. If you’re dealing with a tiny dog or a big blueberry though, cut the berry in half before serving.
Benefits:
Blueberries are low in sugar and fat and make a good treat for dogs who need to avoid too many extra calories.
Contain vitamins C and K, as well as calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, and antioxidants.
Cantaloupe
Cantaloupe is a safe and healthy fruit for your dog to enjoy, but avoid feeding the rind, since the rough texture can cause intestinal damage.5
Benefits:
High doses of beta-carotene, which is good for your dog’s vision and immune system.67
Contains vitamins A, B-6, and C, as well as fiber, potassium, folate, and niacin.
Cranberries
Thanksgiving isn’t the only reason to stock these sweet treats in your home. Cranberries can be fed to your dog raw, cooked, or dried, but skip the sugar-laden cranberry sauce (sorry, Fido).8
Benefits:
Cranberries are high in antioxidants.
Contain vitamins C and E, as well as a range of B vitamins, including thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, and B-6.
Papaya
Go ahead and feed papaya to your pup. The flesh of this exotic fruit makes an excellent snack.
Benefits:
Contain vitamins A, C, E, and K, as well as folate.
Hi in fiber, calcium, and potassium.
Raspberries
When consumed in moderation, raspberries serve as a delicious treat for you dog. And most dogs seem to like them, especially when they’re at their peak sweetness in summer.
Benefits:
Thought to help fight against cancer, circulatory disease, and age-related decline.910
Contain vitamin C, folic acid, copper, magnesium, fiber, and antioxidants.
Strawberries
Like most other berries, strawberries are chock-full of antioxidants. For safe feeding, slice off the leaves at the top first and then quarter the strawberry. If your dog is small, cut each quarter in half (or smaller).
Benefits:
Strawberries can provide a big boost to the immune system with their high level of antioxidants.11 They also have a high water content, making them a hydrating snack.
Contain vitamins C, B-6, K, and E, as well as folate, potassium, and manganese.
Watermelon
Nothing is quite as satisfying on a hot day as a juicy slice of watermelon, and our dogs agree. Just don’t feed the rind or seeds, which are difficult for your dog to digest.12
Benefits:
High in lycopene, an antioxidant that protects against cell damage.
Contain vitamins A, B-6, and C, as well as thiamin, which helps convert fat, protein, and carbohydrates into energy.
Incredibly hydrating thanks to a high water content.
Fruits You Shouldn’t Feed Your Dog
While the list of fruits that dogs can eat is long, as a responsible pet parent you should also be aware of the fruits that dogs can’t eat. These include:
Cherries
Grapefruit
Grapes
Lemons
Limes
Plums
Always err on the side of safety when it comes to feeding your dog any type of fruit for the first time. Even fruits that aren’t on this list can pose a problem to your particular dog, so do your research, feed only small amounts at first, and be on the lookout for signs of a bad reaction.
How to Feed Your Dog Fruit
Fresh or frozen fruit is easy to feed your pet, provided you remove skin, seeds, and pits, and cut the fruit into manageable bites. But if you're up for it, you can get more creative.
Freeze some pup-sicles. Fill each slot in an ice cube tray with fresh water or a tablespoon or so of plain yogurt, then pop in small bits of cut up fruit and freeze. Pop out one of the pup-sicles for an icy treat on a warm day.
Make a smoothie. Start with a base, such as water, plain yogurt, or beef, chicken, or veggie broth (just check the ingredient list first to ensure there’s no onion, garlic, or other no-go foods if you're using store-bought broth). Blend with fresh or frozen fruit, and serve. If you make too big of a serving, freeze the rest in an ice cube tray for quick frozen treats.
Encourage your dog to play with their food. Swap out traditional treats in your dog’s favorite puzzle toy for small bits of fruit instead. They’ll get a nice healthy snack along with lots of mental exercise.
Sprinkle fruit on top of meals. Add some excitement to meal time by using cut up fruit as a topper on your dog’s normal breakfast or dinner. It’s a good way to mix up their meals and add an extra dose of wholesome goodness.

Raw veganism is a plant-based diet
Raw veganism is a plant-based diet that consists of uncooked and unprocessed foods, such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and sprouted grains. This type of diet is becoming increasingly popular due to its numerous health benefits, including improved digestion, increased energy levels, and weight loss. However, planning a raw vegan meal can be challenging, especially if you are new to this type of diet. In this article, we will discuss some tips for planning a raw vegan meal and provide you with some delicious and healthy raw vegan meal ideas.

Dietary Recommendations for an Ileostomy
During ileostomy surgery, the entire colon, rectum, and anus are removed or bypassed. An ileostomy is placed by the surgeon through an opening in the abdominal wall. The end portion of the ileum (part of your small intestine) is brought through the abdominal wall, forming what is called the stoma.
The stoma must be covered with a bag at all times to collect stool. An ileostomy may be temporary or permanent depending on the surgery. After surgery, your eating plan will begin with clear liquids. As you recover, you will start eating small amounts of solid foods that are low in fiber. Most people begin to eat more normally 6 weeks after surgery.
General Food Recommendations
Foods to Include:
Low-Fiber Foods: Low-fiber foods are easier to digest. Although not the healthiest, white bread, white rice, and refined cereals are usually tolerated. Instead, I would recommend rye bread, sourdough, rice, or almond flour crackers.
Lean Proteins: Choose lean protein sources such as skinless poultry, fish, eggs, and well-cooked, tender meats.
Non-Dairy Substitutes: This includes nut milks and creamers, vegan cheeses, and spreads.
Fruits and Vegetables: Peel and cook vegetables and fruit to make them easier to digest. Vegetables are best roasted, sauteed, grilled, or steamed. Apples, pears, and peaches can be baked. Pulp-free fruit juices are generally okay. Tomato sauce and puree should also be okay.
Healthy Fats: Include sources of healthy fats such as olive oil, avocado and avocado oil, coconut oil, and nut butters.
Hydration: Stay well-hydrated by drinking at least 72 oz of water throughout the day.
Foods to Avoid:
High-Fiber Foods: Initially, avoid high-fiber foods like whole grains, nuts, seeds, and raw vegetables.
Gas-Producing Foods: Minimize intake of gas-producing foods like beans, cabbage, and carbonated beverages.
Spicy Foods: Limit or avoid spicy foods that may irritate the digestive system.
Certain Fruits and Vegetables: Limit or avoid high-fiber fruits and vegetables with skins or seeds.
Dairy: lactose can cause gas in the stoma and is generally not well tolerated. It's best to avoid all dairy.
Beverages: Avoid caffeinated coffee and tea, hot chocolate, carbonated beverages, soda and sugary beverages.
Fiber
Dietary fiber is present in all plant food in the form of soluble and insoluble fibers. After having an ileostomy, you should avoid foods rich in insoluble fiber (bran-enriched breads and cereals, certain fruits and vegetables, legumes, and dried beans) and eat more foods rich in soluble fiber (oats, rye, barley, apples, bananas). These recommended diet changes can help reduce unpleasant symptoms of diarrhea, odor, and gas; help avoid blockage of your stoma; and help your body absorb nutrients from your food as you heal from surgery.
Insolube Fiber (AVOID)
Whole Grains Whole Wheat Brown Rice Quinoa Couscous Bulgar Whole Wheat Products Bread, pasta, crackers Bran Products Bran muffins or cereal Vegetables Corn Broccoli Cauliflower Brussels Sprouts Cabbage Green Beans Celery Radishes Sweet Potatoes (can have but remove the skin before cooking) Carrots (can have but peel and cook) Fruits Raw cold fruit like apples and pears (with skin on) Berries Grapes Kiwi Legumes Lentils Chickpeas Kidney Beans Black Beans Split Peas Nuts and Seeds Avoid all nuts and seeds in their original form. You may be able to tolerate a small amount of nut butters, nut milks, and nut creamers
Soluble Fiber (INCLUDE)
Grains Oats Rye Vegetables Most vegetables if peeled and cooked. Salad - lettuce, remove the seeds in tomatoes and cucumbers Fruit Apples and pears with skin off and baked Applesauce Bananas Citrus fruits- orange and tangerine Mango Papaya
Recommendations
Try eating 4-5 smaller meals each day to ease digestion, prevent high ileostomy output, and enhance food absorption to meet your calorie, protein, and nutrient needs. Missing meals can increase gas and watery stools. Have your largest meal in the middle of the day and avoid eating large amounts in the evening. This can help decrease stool output at night.
The ileostomy output can be watery or pasty, depending upon the foods you eat, the amount of fluid you drink, the medications you take, and other factors. Aim for at least 72 oz of water per day. Try waiting 30 minutes after meals or snacks before drinking to avoid flushing food through your system too quickly.
When the ileostomy output is high, meaning you need to empty the ileostomy bag up to 5-8 times per day, you will need to pay attention to fluid intake and output. If you have high output from the ostomy, you will need to use an oral rehydration solution to replace the fluids you are losing.
Sports drinks are often high in sugar, which can increase your stoma output. Here are two recipes to try for oral rehydration:
1 packet of Emergen-C +2 cups water + 1⁄2 tsp salt
1 cup natural apple juice + 3 cups water + 1⁄2 tsp salt
Initially after surgery, your stool will be liquid and watery because of where the ileostomy is located in the intestine. The stool will gradually become thicker over the next few weeks (more like a consistency of pudding or oatmeal).
Add only 1 new food every few days.
Start with small portions of foods you tolerated well before surgery. If you eat a food and do not tolerate it well, wait a few weeks and then try it again.
Keep a log of foods you choose, and how you feel when eating them.
Helpful Tips
Include foods with salt. Sodium can help replace electrolytes that you've lost if you've had diarrhea or high ileostomy output. High sodium choices include Himalayan sea salt, pretzels, crackers, tuna, broths and soups, tomato and V8 juice, and soy sauce.
Chew all foods thoroughly and slowly.
Consume liquids 30-60 minutes after meals to help with nutrient absorption.
Eat at regular intervals and avoid skipping meals.
Eat 4-5 smaller meals a day rather than 2-3 larger ones.

Wing It Right: Crafting the Perfect Bird Treats at Home
Tumblr media
Birds, with their vibrant plumage and melodious songs, bring joy and beauty to our surroundings. Whether you're a seasoned bird enthusiast or just starting out with a feathered friend, providing them with nutritious and delicious treats is essential for their health and happiness. While store-bought treats are convenient, making homemade bird treats can be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for both you and your avian companions. Let's explore the art of crafting the perfect bird treats at home.
Why Homemade Bird Treats?
Commercial bird treats often contain preservatives, additives, and artificial colors that may not be the healthiest option for our feathered friends. By making bird treats at home, you have full control over the ingredients, ensuring that your birds receive wholesome and nutritious snacks. Additionally, homemade treats allow you to cater to your bird's specific dietary needs and preferences, whether they are seed-eaters, fruit-lovers, or enjoy a combination of both.
Essential Ingredients for Bird Treats
When it comes to crafting homemade bird treats, using high-quality ingredients is paramount. Here are some essential ingredients to consider:
Seeds: Seeds such as sunflower seeds, millet, and safflower seeds are popular choices among many bird species. They provide essential nutrients and are often a favorite among seed-eating birds like finches and sparrows.
Nuts: Nuts like almonds, walnuts, and peanuts are rich in protein and healthy fats, making them a nutritious addition to bird treats. However, be sure to use unsalted and unseasoned nuts to avoid any harmful additives.
Fruits: Fresh fruits like apples, berries, bananas, and grapes are excellent sources of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants for birds. Chop them into small pieces or blend them into a puree to incorporate into your bird treats.
Vegetables: Certain vegetables like carrots, broccoli, and leafy greens can also be included in bird treats to provide added nutrients and variety to their diet. Ensure that the vegetables are finely chopped or cooked to make them more palatable for birds.
Whole Grains: Incorporating whole grains like oats, quinoa, and brown rice into bird treats can provide complex carbohydrates and fiber, promoting digestive health in birds.
Honey or Agave Syrup: A small amount of natural sweetener can be used to bind the ingredients together and add a touch of sweetness to the treats. However, use sparingly as excessive sugar intake can be harmful to birds.

Seed and Nut Balls:
Mix together equal parts of sunflower seeds, chopped nuts, and dried fruit pieces.
Add a small amount of honey or agave syrup to bind the mixture together.
Roll the mixture into small balls and refrigerate until firm.
Offer the seed and nut balls to your birds as a nutritious and energy-rich treat.
Fruit and Vegetable Kabobs:
Skewer pieces of fresh fruits and vegetables onto a wooden kabob stick.
Alternate between different fruits and vegetables to provide variety.
Hang the kabobs inside your bird's cage for them to enjoy nibbling on throughout the day.
Homemade Birdie Bread:
In a bowl, mix together whole grain flour, finely chopped vegetables, and mashed fruits.
Add a small amount of water or unsweetened fruit juice to form a thick batter.
Pour the batter into a greased baking pan and bake until firm and golden brown.
Once cooled, cut the birdie bread into small squares and serve as a wholesome treat for your feathered friends.
Conclusion
Crafting homemade bird treats is not only a fun and creative activity but also a wonderful way to bond with your avian companions while providing them with nutritious snacks. 4 Things Not to Do Immediately After Your Intense Workout

4 Things Not to Do Right After a Workout

Working out is great for your health, but it's important to take it easy straight after an intense session. Here are 4 things you shouldn't do immediately when you've finished exercising:

1. Don't Stop and Rest Too Quickly

If you stop moving as soon as you're done with your workout, your muscles will relax too fast. When you exercise, more blood flows into your muscles to provide oxygen and nutrients. This blood needs to slowly return to your heart. If you rest abruptly, your blood pressure could drop and you may feel dizzy or even faint!

It's okay to slow down your movement, but keep moving for a few minutes with a light stretch or cool down routine. This allows your circulation to gradually return to normal and prevents you from feeling unwell.

2. Hold Off on That Cold Shower

Jumping in the shower with cold water right after your sweaty session is tempting, but it's best avoided. The sudden temperature change can cause your blood vessels to tightly constrict. This increases the strain on your heart and raises your risk of illness. Warm showers are also not ideal, as they may draw too much blood to your skin away from important organs.

Wait at least 30 minutes before bathing to allow your body to start cooling down naturally. Lukewarm water is your safest bet for cleaning up once the worst of your sweat has dried.

3. Steer Clear of Sugary Snacks

While sweet treats may sound delicious as a post-workout pick-me-up, they're not the healthiest choice. Sugary foods deplete your stores of vitamin B1, an important nutrient your body uses to recover its energy levels. Without enough B1, you'll struggle to feel fully recharged.

Instead, aim for complex carbs and proteins like whole grains, nuts, yogurt or an egg salad. Vitamin-rich fruits are also an excellent option for replenishing your energy supplies.

4. Alcohol is Out of the Question

When you exercise vigorously, your body works hard to return itself to a resting state. Drinking alcohol after a heavy session places additional strain on your liver as it metabolizes the booze. It's best to avoid alcohol for at least a few hours to give your system time to fully recover from your workout.

Water is your top choice for rehydrating. You can also enjoy vitamin-packed juices or low-fat milk. Just say no to alcoholic drinks until later in the day once your body is back in balance.

With a little patience, you can get all the benefits of exercise without putting undue stress on your body. Listen to it and take the time it needs to recover fully between sessions for optimal health gains.
