One of my favorite tropes I personally don't see around much is when the whumpee is getting sick but no one knows it yet, and they have a few uncomfortable symptoms but everyone, including them, sees it as normal or at least explainable. Like the whumpee may feel a bit congested but it's the beginning of spring and allergies are common, or they feel a bit more chilled than normal but it's kinda cold outside. I have some IRL whump experience with this but I'm not about to bother you with that story lmao

re: IRL whump - you know i’m always here for a good story 😂 but yes, this actually is the worst!!

i feel like spring is such a hard time because 9 times out of 10 you’re not wearing the proper clothing (like is 50 degrees warm or cold??) or it’s raining/windy and way too easy to get chilled when outside. Not to mention the pollen and all the confusion that adds???

But outside of spring weather, it’s also great when they think that physical exertion or overdoing it on the previous day is what’s making their body ache, or they credit their overwhelming fatigue/headache to a bad night’s sleep. and of course, you end up with all these things converging until whumpee realizes “huh. I feel awful. maybe I’m sick?”

add on a whumpee who already hates the extra attention and doesn’t tell anyone?? we have a STORY on our hands folks 👀

8 years ago my world stopped, out of nowhere a crippling pain starter, even though I know the cause sadly there is no cure.

Many times I get told that "You don't LOOK sick/in pain" "Are you sure its not just in your head?", due to pain I had to stop everything I enjoyed as I could not even sit in my chair for long.

Thankfully now I am at a doctors who care, who want to help me, who don't tell me to "Just get on with it", my pain will never no away but thanks to the caring doctors I can not sit and sew for a little while.

"Just get on with it" was from a 'specialist' who fobbed me off for 3 years at the start of the pain, thanks to him I have developed scoliosis due to how I was holding myself to tey and cope with the crippling pain, I did work at this time as well dragging myself in and getting talked down to or threatened to be fired because of my health.

It has taken so long to feel heard and fell like I am being listened to, taken seriously.

#for context uhmm how do i explain this #so around a few weeks after Jd arrives Bruce is like “Hey... where are the others?” #and Jd is like “ooooh 🤪🤪 he doesnt know...” #Since at this time JD believes that the entire tribe is dead. including his brothers and grandma #so Jd has to take Bruce to the now abandoned troll tree and give him the bad news #Bruce doesnt believe it at first. even if the tree is abandoned they cant be dead? right?? they cant be #so he rushes over to their grandma's pod. thinking that theyre just in hiding and waiting for them to return #and all Bruce is able to find in the empty pod is Branch's old stuffed toy Croco #which solidifies to Bruce that everyone is dead. their friends their family. everyone #Bruce is obviously devastated by the news. he doesnt show it a lot but he doesnt take it too well #he ends up bringing Croco with him back to Vacay Island and patches Croco up #since Croco is a bit worn out due to being left in the pod for years #and since then Bruce always keeps Croco hidden in his hair. both as a memoir of his baby brother #and also a reminder of how he failed as an older brother... ouch #ofc the others arent dead. its just that now both Jd AND Bruce believe that the rest of the trolls are dead #also King Trollex is there bc i wanted to put him there.
