Also what's really interesting about scum villain's Japanese fandom is that rather than sprouting naturally off from a Chinese source through early international official translations or even because of Japanese studios collaborating to make a donghua and airing it both in Japan and China (as you see with a few other donghua) the Japanese sv fandom from what I can tell were also just passing around fantl-ed pdfs of the book for years just like we in western fandom were LOL. I think mostly people maintain the same ideas re:authenticity across both the jpn and western fandom, which is why "shizun" (しずん) is pretty much never translated in fanwork and it's very common for people to type the characters names out phonetically for pronunciation preservation (actually this doesn't matter but I was a little surprised at how binghe was written as ビンハ− (binha) because I feel like I've always seen it written as ビンヘー (binhe). But in speech the VA pronounces it as sort of a mid ground between the two like the original Chinese so I guess it's just writing preference). I wonder if there'll be translation discourse about the official Japanese tl .. I'll keep you guys updated if I see anything

Story-idea: de-aged OG!SQQ
(eventual Liu Qingge/Yue Qingyuan/Shen Qingqiu)
Can't be the only one who'd love to see a de-aged, amnesiac Shen Qingqiu bite someone's hand out of possessive over-protectiveness, because they dared to threaten (or just touch) Yue Qingyuan. Especially if most of the other peak lords see this.
Anyway, this is what sparked this story idea.
Shen Qingqiu hasn't been well for a while already and then gets into a big argument during a peak lord meeting, which causes him to suffer a qi-deviation. He ends up de-aged to his 12 or 13 year old self and only remembers what happened up to that point.
And holy shit, this is very clearly the opposite of a spoiled rich kid. He's malnourished, neglected and possibly mistreated. He also clearly speaks (and curses) like a street urchin. It's a pretty big shock to his fellow peak lords.
Except for Yue Qingyuan, who immediately tries shielding him from the others. Which isn't going too well at first, seeing how tall, strong men usually spell danger to Shen Jiu. Some of the others try with the best of intentions to get a hold of him to prevent more harm, like him tripping off the rainbow bridge or having an even worse qi-deviation etc. But naturally he's trying to run away from everyone who does. It gets very chaotic, until Yue Qingyuan draws Xuan Su an inch out of its sheath and stops any further shenanigans.
After that, Shen Jiu has a good look at his face and recognizes him as the adult Qi-ge. That Shen Jiu is still wearing (and tripping over) his own too big robes makes it easier for him to believe that he somehow de-aged. Then he pretty much hides in Yue Qingyuan's embrace.
Everyone always questioned why the sect leader is so partial toward Shen Qingqiu and how they first met. Now, with how they interact, they strongly suspect the two grew up together. Which means everyone realizes that Yue Qingyuan is likely a former street child as well. Contrary to Yue Qingyuan's expectations this actually makes them more appreciative of his accomplishments and friendship.
But now Mu Qingfang has to make sure drawing Xuan Su didn't cause lingering damage. Which in turn makes Shen Qingqiu question what's wrong. He's only getting an abridged version, but that's already enough for extreme concern and vile curses against Yue Qingyuan's shizun. Everyone is really shocked and baffled how much he actually cares about the person he usually couldn't even speak five phrases to before flying off the handle.
As for Shen Qingqiu, his qi-deviation was severe. No one can say for sure whether the de-aging will revert back or is permanent. For the time being it's best to assume it's the latter. He has to completely start over with his cultivation. And here comes the next big surprise for the others – Shen Qingqiu has outstanding talent. No wonder he was so salty about his comparably mediocre abilities before...
He can't perform his peak lord duties until he trained up to it again. Qing Jing is run by teachers, hallmasters and occasionally the other peak lords. There are no new disciples accepted and Shen Qingqiu is re-tracing and re-learning most things from his personal library. Most of the time he is on Qiong Ding, partly because he wants to be close to Qi-ge and partly because Yue Qingyuan is too worried to leave him alone on Qing Jing. It's also awesome for both to just enjoy being together without the misunderstandings and resentment poisoning them. Finally everything seems to go well.
Shen Qingqiu can't help admiring his Qi-ge. He's become so much more attractive as an adult. He already was in love before, but now these feelings get a lot more pronounced over the years.
Then Liu Qingge decides to teach Shen Qingqiu proper fight etiquette and gets more than he bargained for. Because Shen Qingqiu unexpectedly develops feelings for him as well. Instead of a treacherous viper threatening to kill him, he now seemingly has a smitten troublesome gremlin hell-bent on future marriage to deal with. Hearing that Shen Qingqiu is exclusively into men is yet again flipping assumptions about him.
Shen Qingqiu is rather torn about having feelings for someone other than Qi-ge in the beginning. But then he decides he wants both! He has always been greedy, why stop now? It doesn't take much convincing for Yue Qingyuan to agree to marry him later. Liu Qingge is a harder nut to crack, but he's immortal and Shen Qingqiu will be soon again as well, so he's ready for a long courtship.
When Luo Binghe joins the sect, he's accepted into Qiong Ding. He and Shen Qingqiu have a complicated relationship. Luo Binghe is very confused and a bit intimidated by knowing this teenager, who is only a few years older than him, is a peak lord who had an accident. And Shen Qingqiu thinks Luo Binghe is too naive and a pushover who needs to learn to stand up for himself. His brand of tough love and help is sadly sparking feelings in Luo Binghe that will ultimately stay unrequited.
Shen Qingqiu's courtship of Liu Qingge naturally includes gifts. Among other things a trinket of some kind that alerts him should Liu Qingge be in trouble. He has to more or less be bullied into taking it with him into the Lingxi caves, but it ends up saving his life. Shen Qingqiu knows something bad happens the moment the qi-deviation starts and he can alert Yue Qingyuan to go in and help. This finally fully convinces Liu Qingge that the courting isn't a long-running ploy. He's more receptive to the courting after this, even though the whole situation is still very strange.
Sha Hualing attacks the sect and is pretty handily defeated in the three matches. Shen Qingqiu wins the first fight, Luo Binghe is eager to impress him and barges in to fight Sha Hualing. Since he's very well trained, he wins. Shen Qingqiu sent a message to Liu Qingge as soon as the attack happened and he rushes out of seclusion to arrive just in time to easily win the third match and, with the combined attack of the others, chase the rest of the demons away.
Shen Qingqiu is drawn into Luo Binghe's dream realm and aids him, thus inadvertently strengthening Luo Binghe's romantic feelings towards him. Shen Qingqiu has no idea this is the case.
Shen Qingqiu accompanies Liu Qingge on his hunts and missions quite often. It's good practice for Shen Qingqiu's duties and opportunity to get closer. Yue Qingyuan and Liu Qingge get more fond of each other as well during this time. This makes Shen Qingqiu stress over losing both at first, but once they reassure him they intend to marry him as well as each other, this is alright for him.
Years later, both Shen Qingqiu and Luo Binghe are attending the Immortal Alliance Conference. Binghe's seal breaks and a cultivator from another sect attacks Binghe upon seeing him. Shen Qingqiu by chance arrives and knocks the cultivator out from behind. After thinking of ways to get Binghe out and realizing there's no way this could work without others noticing that he's a demon and getting the wrong ideas, he urges Binghe to jump into the Endless Abyss. His main concern is not so much Luo Binghe staying alive, but keeping Qi-ge and Liu Qingge safe. He's sure that would be in jeopardy with the sect under scrutiny for harboring a demon and consequently being suspected of responsibility for sabotaging the conference. Eventually Binghe does as he says.
When Shen Qingqiu turns 20 or 21 he is ready to take charge of Qing Jing peak again. Soon after, he, Yue Qingyuan and Liu Qingge marry.
Binghe comes back after three years and intends to propose to Shen Qingqiu, only to find he's too late.
Obviously this could lead to more drama or even another addition to the marriage. But I personally am really fond of Binghe/Vinegar and him pining in vain, so...¯\_(ツ)_/¯

actual thoughtful choices when writing in English like my friend's "Teacher" for "shizun" get totally overlooked by fandom in favour of "omg they kept the honorifics in!!"
meanwhile do ppl even know the difference between shifu & shizun or how the vowel in "zun" is pronounced. lmao

After the Gnosis incident, Childe decides to take a much-needed break away from Zhongli.
However, how was he supposed to react, when all of a sudden Lumine showed up outside his apartment sounding terribly mortified, "Childe......Zhongli.......Zhongli....is in grave danger."
Of course, he was going to do anything to help the dying man.
Sure, he still felt a lot of contempt for him, after what he did, but his heart still loved him.....
But, what he hadn't expected was the sudden wisp of golden light that somehow transported him during the times of the Archon War?!
What the FUCK?!

Chapter 5: Disaster Strikes!...In the form of a sick kid?...Pt. 1
Ajax watched as Morax continued to stare at him with a new intensity he had not noticed before. However, before he could blink, Morax had gone underwater and had immediately rushed out of the water….?
Ajax stood still in the water, wondering what the hell happened?
Morax almost looked the slightest bit bashful, his eyes were wide, and he put a hand over his heart.
What happened?
Ajax was confused at what had transpired and wanted to find out what had occurred; however, his curiosity was outweighed by his tired body and his embarrassment.
So, he shook off the strange encounter and decided to enjoy the rest of the shower as best as he could.
___________________________________
That was until it started to pour down, as if the sky itself was crying tears. It was such a heavy downpour that Ajax had to abandon his comfortable spot in the warm water and rush into his house.
He quickly moved to strip off his robe…..that was until he stopped when he noticed a certain god staring at him…..Morax?
What the heck was he doing in his house?
Ajax hastily put on the robe, although since it had rained, it didn’t give him much privacy. It was a white robe, and it stuck onto his pale skin like glue to paper. The skin-tight robe did not leave anything short of the imagination, however with a similarly soaked god…it pushed that concern out of his mind, and replaced it with the same question.
“What....are you doing in my house?” Ajax asked, his cheeks flaring up.
Morax blinked slowly before he said, “I do not like the rain, so I came here for shelter.....I did not mean to intrude so abruptly.....If it makes you uncomfortable, I can leave.”
The god looked hesitant, a new look on him that Ajax had previously not seen. During all of his interactions with the god, he had never seen him look hesitant before. It was certainly something.
Ajax tried to brush off the quickening of his heartbeat as he moved towards his own room; trying his best to sound and look nonchalant, “It’s…fine. I don’t mind.”
“Thank you, Ajax. I will make sure not to intrude,” his honey voice dripped with pure sincerity and it almost made Ajax weak to his knees.
That was another one of his weaknesses with Zhongli, the fact that his voice sounded so good to the ears. It sounded as if he was uttering sweet nothings in that honey baritone voice of his whenever he would open his mouth. It was nearly enough to bring Ajax to his knees (it was actually one of the reasons he could not say ‘no’ to the man, whenever he found another interesting artifact and bought it). The way he pronounced each syllable sounded so irresistible and too alluring; like a siren’s call. It drew Ajax in and made him forget what his name was on many occasions.
So, he tried his best to keep on walking towards his room, without looking as if he was about to fall down. He waved a nonchalant hand, “You’re welcome, Shizun. ”
Morax didn’t say anything and Ajax only heard a small thump of the god presumably settling himself nicely on the sofa. Thankfully, Ajax had put on a few covers over the sofas, so they would not soak wet when Ganyu came from playing outside in the rain.
He locked the door to his room, and pulled out a few comfortable night clothes from his drawer and slipped them on. He grabbed another towel, dried his hair with it before he wrapped it around his neck. He unlocked the door, put on his slippers and headed to the living room.
However, he paused his steps.
He had to do something about Morax first, if he did not want to clean his floors later. So, he grabbed another towel, extra clothes, and walked into the living room.
Morax was sitting obediently on the sofa and was currently just looking aimlessly out of a window. His long dark hair that glowed at the tips, was soaking wet and…that’s when he realized something else…..he was not wearing any clothes!
Ajax had not noticed this, and had somehow neglected to see the lack of clothes on the archon. He had gotten the extra pair of clothes to get Morax to change out of his wet ones….but now it seems that wasn’t the case at all.
He sighed in mortification before he covered his eyes and stretched out his hand with the items, “Take. Them.”
Morax turned to look at him, and grabbed the items from his hand, and Ajax tried to ignore the way his hand brushed against his own.
However, just as he thought it was over, Morax grabbed at him once more and yanked the hand that was covering his face.
He grabbed at Ajax’s face once more and stared intensely into his eyes, “You seem to be red again, is that normal?”
Ajax wanted to scream and he felt his already blushing face heat up even more, “Um….ye-yeah…it is.”
Morax hummed and continued to inspect his face with his hands, “I see…how fascinating. Guizhong has mentioned to me that humans do this when feeling great embarrassment. Is that true?”
Ajax felt his mortification and shame creep slowly up his spine, “Ye..ah..”
Morax nodded and finally let go of his face, “How interesting.”
Ajax quickly scrambled towards the kitchen, “Yeah…just…go change…And I’ll…make some tea.”
“Mn.”
_______________________________________
After getting over his embarrassment, Ajax quickly went to do as he had promised. He had said that to get out of that situation, however, now the prospect of tea was sounding quite good. So, he grabbed the tea leaves, grabbed some water (he had retrieved some from the well earlier), grabbed the kettle, and quickly lit the fire. He poured the water and placed it on the stove, as well as the tea leaves.
After that, he grabbed a bit of sugar extracted from Sweet Flowers and threw it into the kettle.
He sighed and grabbed at his face; this was just his luck!
He was stuck with Morax (of all adepti) until the rain stopped….which looked like it would never. He glanced at his window and felt his frown grow twice its size as he saw the dark gray sky darken and the rain pour down. It looked like it would never stop. And said adepti was his lover in a different time period, who had lied to him and was currently on his deathbed. And to make the situation way worse, his lover in this time period was not only a block-head but was also extremely unaware of proper decency and very socially unaware.
The damn man thought it was ok to prance around in his human form in Ajax’s house while being starch naked…what the hell!
Ajax had seen everything ; the sharp curve of his collarbones, his perfectly structured abdomen, the sharp v-line of his hips, the way his hair fell down messily over it all, the way his arms looked as if they were able to crush the very stone he made, his…
He calmed down his racing thoughts and yanked the two cups he had already set out and poured the tea into them, making sure to add a generous amount. He was going to wait until the kettle whined, however, knowing Morax and his cat tongue; it was probably best to serve it warm. So, he set the pot down, grabbed the cups and prayed that the adepti had already changed his clothes.
He went towards the living room, and sighed in relief when he noticed that the god had indeed kept his word and changed.
Morax lifted his gaze from the ground and looked up towards Ajax, “Ajax, you have come.”
Ajax blinked, “Yeah…uhh, here’s your tea. I hope Shizun likes it.”
He placed it down onto the coffee table and watched as Morax nodded and grabbed the small tea cup and placed it on his chapped lips before he took a small sip. After he took the sip, he visibly relaxed and comfortably relaxed into his chair.
Ajax chuckled lightly. Even if this was Zhongli from years ago, he was still the same in his mannerisms. Whenever Zhongli liked something, he would instantly relax and let his body go slack into the chair or couch. He did this with food often, however he did it with other things as well. Such as, when someone gave him a gift he liked, or when someone combed his hair……
He gazed down at Morax as he took sip after sip of the tea, his hair still spilling messily down his shoulders and back. His eyeliner was messed up from the rain, but it only added to his allure, as well as the gentle curve of his nose, his prominent cheekbones, his golden cor lapis horns that adorned his head…A deep affection sprung up to the fore-front and Ajax felt it bubble up to the top. It was a dizzying feeling and Ajax felt too enraptured in the man, he felt too much for him. It was as if he was breathing in water; suffocating.
Ajax did not know when, but somehow his hand had unconsciously reached over to Morax. His hand dipped towards his head and gently laid it down between his horns. Morax instinctively stiffened before he yanked his hand from his head, which caused Ajax to yelp from surprise. Morax lifted his head and his eyes were something he had never seen before; feral. They looked predatory and something deep in Ajax’s gut was screaming at him to get away.
He attempted to yank his hand away from Morax, to no avail. Morax’s gaze was still sharp and his pupils were still slits, so he decided to try something else, “....Um…I' sorry…I shouldn’t have done that..”
Morax’s gaze focused again, and he immediately let go of Ajax’s hand as if he was burned, “It is…fine.”
Ajax gulped and saw as Morax’s gaze burned deeper into him, “I’m gonna go ummm get some sleep now..”
Morax nodded and his gaze still burned deeply into Ajax, his skin felt hot. Morax’s gaze raked him up and down, the same predatory gaze was still there; it was like he was assessing potential prey. He looked hungrier than any person Ajax had ever seen before in his life, his eyes were turning into slits again, and something in them screamed danger.
Ajax felt his spine tingle and his legs wobble slightly as an inexplicable heat washed over him…this was definitely not good. Before anything else could happen, Ajax quickly turned around and walked over to his room, shutting it tight behind him.
What the fuck was that?!
_______________________________
Thankfully, when Ajax woke up and walked towards the kitchen; the man was nowhere to be found.
Ajax sighed once more and picked up the small tea cup placed on the coffee table, as well as the clothes that Morax had borrowed; which were sprawled all over the couch carelessly.
He guessed some things about Zhongli really were different. He would never leave Ajax’s house without putting everything away neatly, especially borrowed clothes. Zhongli would always organize everything and would make sure to make it look exactly as it did before. He even carried that same need for neatness towards the way he dressed himself (which he guessed was a thing even before he became known as Zhongli. Judging from the way he had organized Ajax’s clothes). His clothes had not a single wrinkle, not a single smudge, stain or anything out of place.
So, he picked up the clothes and began to fold them. However, he stopped midway when he noticed the very familiar smell of silk flowers and sandalwood permeating them.
It was the very same smell that current Zhongli always wore. It was his signature smell, ah, did he naturally give off that smell?
Ajax cracked a small smile at that fact and gently brought the fabric to his nose, and let the calming smell cool off his nerves. Zhongli always smelled like home, like warm mornings in soft blankets, laughter, and nostalgia. On days when Ajax was particularly stressed out, he would inhale Zhongli’s smell like a dying man as soon as he came close to the man on particularly stressed days whenever they would embrace.
Oh, and his embraces were everything Ajax had ever wished for. They were soft and warm, gentle yet heavy on his chest; he got to feel the nice feeling of someone against him. It was a nice feeling, one that Ajax did not get much as his loyal servitude to the Tsaritsa prevented him from getting any sort of physical affection that was deemed intimate in his line of work.
In fact, the closest he got to anything like that was a quick fuck in a back alley or a nice hotel room with a random stranger or those few in between hugs with his comrades. He never got anything remotely intimate and domestic with anyone; until Zhongli came around.
He was almost too easy to wrap his arms around, too easy to share meaningful stares and subtle touches.
It felt as easy as fighting; it came natural to the both of them.
It was almost too much when he was yanked away from the constant touches, especially when he was met with Morax. He was Zhongli, but he did not look at Ajax with the same reverence as Zhongli did.
And not to say that he didn’t, but it was mostly out of curiosity; he could tell by his gaze.
It wasn’t the same, it would not be the same.
He had to get back to his time as soon as possible.
__________________________________
He was called for dinner a while later, and it was at Cloud Retainer’s house; which was not a surprise.
They had all agreed to meet in Cloud Retainer’s house that day so, Ajax dressed up yet another garment from Guizhong with a nice top coat on.
This time, Guizhong had given him a yichang with red and black with small golden embroidered silk flowers on the sleeves; which was styled a bit different from his other clothing. Instead of being cut short in the front, the fabric cascaded downwards and formed a nice skirt. And instead of the sleeves being tight on his arms they were instead billowing and loose.
He put on the undergarments before he put on each piece of clothing on top, starting with the top and then moving onto the skirt which he wrapped around his waist before he sealed it with a nice belt. And finally to top it all off, he put on his top coat, which was very cozy and the fabric felt pleasant to the touch.
Guizhong really was a saint!
Ajax had seen her working the poor seamstresses out with idea after idea for her beloved shidi. He snorted out a laugh when he imagined an over-eager Guizhong saying idea after idea to her seamstresses who just-as-eagerly wrote everything she was saying and started on outfit after outfit.
She really was going to work those poor people to the bone with her million ideas for new outfits for him.
He really was fond of her.
Which almost hurt to think about when he saw how much she was starting to mean to him. He had started to see her as a friend, someone that he could say anything to, a mentor. So, the idea that she was going to eventually die….was something he didn’t want to think about.
She was just starting to mean something else to him, rather than just a distant god from centuries ago.
In fact, just remembering the fact that he had mindlessly with half-interest skimmed through her death without so much as a second glance. The fact that he did not care about how her death affected everything and everyone around her, scared him now.
He sighed and ran a hand through his hair; a thing he had done as a kid in order to calm his nerves down, which was one of the only things he had retained after he had gone in the Abyss.
There was no use thinking about that now, he still had time.
Too much time.
He could still fix things, he could make everything right. For now, everything was fine and he had dinner to attend too.
He had only been in Cloud Retainer’s domain 2 times (this time being his 2nd). And, it was a pain in the ass to get to.
The many steps he had to walk up to were painful on his poor, poor legs.
He almost wanted to kiss the person who had made the elevator in his era, because those things came in handy so much!
He groaned but continued his way up the staircase and continued his way up Mt. Aozang on those glowy rock things. Even if they floated up to the mountain, you still had to manually climb them.
______________________________
After a while of scaling the steps, he had finally made it to the Cloud Retainer’s domain.
The sun was already out, but the moonlight reflected onto the waters below created a nice dance of light on the water ripples of the lake. However, even if it was dark out, small lanterns were lit around them creating nice orange and yellow beads of light. And without so much as a surprise, they were all gathered around the table, which only added to the nice warm atmosphere.
He barely walked a few steps before they all turned around to face him; however, instead of the usual mixed expressions, they all seemed to have a very similar expression on their faces.
If Ajax wasn’t wrong….was that concern?
What the hell had happened? What was wrong?
He continued his steps towards the table and paused at the table before he yanked his chair and took a seat.
Guizhong looked at him with a worried expression and it mirrored the one she had worn last time, “Ah, shidi. You’re finally here. Um…”
She looked around the table and simultaneously everyone looked towards the floor as her gaze passed by them, almost as if they desperately did not want to talk.
Her gaze finally landed on Morax and he too looked like he didn’t want to talk, however he relented as her gaze was quite sharp, “Ajax, how are you feeling?”
How was he feeling?
Ok, that was weird. What the hell did they mean?
Ajax chuckled lightly, before he looked incredulously at them, “I feel fine. Why do you ask, Shizun?”
Morax’s eyes finally made eye contact with Ajax, and archon’s above his gaze was intense. It was as if he was waging a war inside of his gaze; it made Ajax’s spine shiver.
After a few seconds, he broke it off and gestured towards Guizhong who cleared out her throat, “Ah, well, A-Yu has contracted some sort of disease and we do not know if it's contagious or not.”
Morax nodded and continued on, “Ajax, while you are a newly formed adeptus, that does not mean that you have the same immunity to human diseases as we do. You were once a human, and partially are so, we all are wondering if you have been feeling well these past couple of days.”
Ajax shook his head; his own concern spiked up, “No, I feel fine….What happened to her? What are her symptoms?”
This time it was Cloud Retainer who barged in, “The little one has been coughing non stop. Her forehead is burning up and she also has been producing a lot of snot…As a result, one's carpets are ruined as well as one's blankets.” Cloud Retainer winced as she seemed to recall her ruined sheets, before she continued on, “For now, we have called a human doctor to help out, however, he seems to be an utterly useless mortal. No matter what medicine the mortal gave her, her condition stays the same.”
Ajax nodded and started to think about possible illnesses……..AH!
Right! He had almost forgotten!
It was the time of year where people usually contracted common colds; the weather just made people that way!
And the realization that all of the adepti were so panicked about what to do about a common cold, somehow made Ajax want to burst out into laughter. What a ridiculous story!
A bunch of adepti that have lived hundreds of years were panicking because a half human child was sneezing and coughing her poor lungs out. All the poor child needed was some cold pads to her forehead and some chicken soup!
Ajax finally could not prevent his laughter from escaping his lips and he leaned in his chair; it was probably the most absurd thing he had ever heard of!
The other adepti freezed in their seats and seemed to have conflicting expressions on their faces.
Mountain Shaper surprisingly spoke up, “What are you laughing at?”
Ajax giggled and wiped the tears of joy that left his eyes and he sighed before he said, “Ah…..well it seems like there’s umm…nothing to worry about…. pfft-”
He burst into laughter as he saw the confused face of Morax; his eyes were slightly widened as were his lips and his eyebrows were raised up. He looked too cute to handle, but somehow that made the situation funnier.
He finally stopped after a while and started up again, “It's fine. It really is, I know how to fix it, don’t worry.”
That seemed to calm the adepti enough for them to settle down more comfortably in their seats. It even caused Guizhong to turn towards Ajax; her energies revitalized, “What is it shidi? Is this some sort of weird disease only in your home-country?”
Ah, so he guessed that a common cold perhaps wasn’t so common in Liyue; which surprised him. But perhaps that had to do with the warm weather and the short winters, that or their doctor did not know anything about human biology.
Snezhnaya was always cold, even in summer. So, a common cold was not a foreign sight, in fact it was the most welcomed illness. Compared to frostbite or hypothermia, a common cold was a relief; Childe knew how relieved he was whenever he would get those instead of something serious.
However, his people had already adapted to the cold and thus had figured out things that helped efficiently combat it; rest, soup, a cold cloth to the forehead, and cough medicine, if needed.
He turned towards Guizhong and smiled warmly to her, “It is called a ‘common cold’ back in my homeland. And you are correct, these are really common back there.”
Guizhong’s eyes lit up at the new piece of information, likely storing it in one of the many files she kept back in her house about the human world. Sometimes, Ajax swore she was more of an over-enthusiastic scholar than a goddess..
“I see! So then, how do we help A-Yu with her common cold?”
“Leave that up to me shijie….Now, where is she?”
“She’s currently in Sky Bracer’s care.”
_____________________________
And that was where he found himself, alongside Morax and Guizhong…
After dinner; which consisted of delicious Bamboo Shoot Soup and some other tasty delicacies, Ajax bid everyone goodnight and went towards the direction of Sky Bracer’s domain.
While his domain was not far off, it was still quite the hassle to get to. So, he stretched his legs out before he went down the long stairs of Mt. Aozang.
After a few steps down, he was stopped by the sound of Guizhong calling out to him, “Shidi! Wait for me!”
He turned around to find Guizhong with Morax at her side (which inexplicably caused something inside of Ajax to twinge with discomfort).
However, he pushed that unpleasant feeling away and nodded.
He stood still on the step as he watched Guizhong make her way towards him. Once they were close enough he asked, “Is there something you wanted to discuss with me?”
Guizhong shook her head, “No, we just came to help you! Right, Shizun? ”
Morax had his poker face on like ever, but nodded, “Mn.”
Ah, he couldn’t say no to these two. Ajax chuckled softly before he nodded, “Alright then, Let’s go.”
And here he was, caught taking care of a half-human half-Qilin child alongside 2 divine beings.

Chapter 7 - This Venerable One Likes Wontons
The scorching sun was blazing.
The veranda of Life-Death Peak stretched for mile.
As a rising star among immortal cultivators, it was quite different from the other famous clans of the immortal world.
Take the most prosperous Rufeng Sect of Linyi. The main hall of the sect was called the "Six Virtues Hall", which intended to encourage disciples to be "wise, faithful, holy, righteous, benevolent, and loyal" in accordance with the six virtues. The area where the disciples live was called the "Six Behaviours Gate", which warns the disciples to practice "filial piety, friendship, harmony, marriage, responsibility, and compassion." The place where classes were taught was called "Six Arts Platform", which meant that disciples needed to be proficient in the six skills of "ritual, music, archery, riding, calligraphy, and mathematics".
All in all, its elegance was endless.
On the other hand, Life-Death Peak came from a poor background. Its names were hard to explain. "Danxin Hall" and "Platform of Righteousness and Evil" were alright. Perhaps it was because Mo Ran's father and his uncle weren't scholars and couldn't determine any better names. After a while, the names started to get more nonsensical, naming things "Xue Ya" -sounding names left and right.
Therefore, there are many plagiarised names from the underworld on Life-Death Peak. For example, the room where disciples practiced self-reflection was called Yanluo Hall.
The jade bridge connecting the resting area and the teaching area was called Naihe Bridge. The dining hall was called Mengpo Hall, the martial arts field was called Mountain of Daggers and Sea of Flames. The forbidden area of the back of the mountain is called the Ghost Room, and so on.
These weren't too bad, but there were other places simply called "This is a mountain", "This is water", "This is a pit", as well as the famous "Ahhhhh" and "Wahhhhhh" cliffs.
The elders’ dormitories naturally did not escape, and each has their own nickname.
Chu Wanning was naturally no exception. He liked peace and didn't want to live near others. His residence was built on the South Peak of Life-Death Peak, hidden in a sea of bamboo. There was a pool in front of the main hall, and the pool was red from lotus petals blocking the sunlight from reflecting off it. Because of its abundance of spiritual power, the lotus flowers were in full bloom all year round in the pool, like red clouds.
The disciples secretly called this beautiful place--
Red Lotus Hell.
When Mo Ran thought of this, he couldn't help but laugh.
Chu Wanning wore a terrifying face every single day, and the disciples who saw him thought he was the devil himself. Therefore, shouldn't the place where the devil stays be called hell?
Xue Meng interrupted his daydream: "You laugh even though you were scolded! Hurry up and eat breakfast. After eating, follow me to the Platform of Righteousness and Evil. Shizun will punish you in public today!"
Mo Ran sighed, and touched the whip mark on his face: "Hss. . . ow."
"You deserved it!"
"Hah, I wonder if Tianwen has been repaired. I hope he doesn't try it out on me again before it's fixed. Who knows what nonsense I might say."
In the face of Mo Ran's sincere concerns, Xue Meng's face flushed, and he angrily said: "If you dare to speak out indecently in public against Shizun, I'll rip your tongue out!"
Mo Ran covered his face and waved his hand faintly: "No need, no need, if Shizun ties me with willow vine again, I will end myself on the spot to prove my innocence."
When the hour came, Mo Ran was brought to the Platform of Righteousness and Evil according to customs. He looked around, and there was a deep blue sea of people below. The disciples of Life-Death Peak all wore the sect uniform; blue so dark it was almost black armour, the lion's head belt, wrist guards and the silver threads gleaming on the hems of robes.
The rising sun, below the Platform of Righteousness and Evil, the sea of armour shone.
Mo Ran kneeled on the raised platform, listening to a chief elder list off a long list of the crimes he'd committed.
"Mo Weiyu, disciple of Elder Yuheng, arrogantly disregarded teachings, disobeyed the rules of the sect, and abandoned morality. You have violated the fourth, ninth, and fifteenth mandates of this sect. As punishment, you will receive 80 strikes, copy the sect rules a hundred times and reflect in solitude for a full month. Mo Weiyu, is there anything you have to say in your defense?"
Mo Ran glanced at the white figure in the distance.
That elder was the only member of Life-Death Peak who wasn't required to wear the standard blue and silver rim robe.
Chu Wanning's robe was made of snow-white satin, an outer robe made of cloud-patterned silver silk, like he was dressed in a heavenly frost, but the person wearing it seemed far more frigid than either snow or frost. He sat quietly, far enough away that Mo Ran couldn't see the expression on his face, but he knew that this person was probably completely unphased.
Mo Ran let out a deep sigh: "I have nothing to argue."
According to customary practice, the chief elder asked the disciples below: "If anyone is dissatisfied with the verdict, or has something else to say, this is the time to make such a statement."
All the disciples began to hesitate and averted their gaze.
None of them expected that the Yuheng Elder Chu Wanning would actually send his disciple to be punished publicly on the Platform of Righteousness and Evil.
To put it nicely, this person was impartial, but to word it differently, was also called a cold-blooded demon.
The cold-blooded demon Chu Wanning faintly propped his chin and sat in the position. Suddenly someone shouted with amplifying technique: "Elder Yuheng, this disciple is willing to plead for leniency on behalf of Young Master Mo."
". . . Plead?"
This disciple obviously felt that since Mo Ran was the nephew of Life-Death Peak's lord, even if he had screwed up this time, his future prospects would still be bright, so he decided to take the opportunity to win Mo Ran's favour. He began to talk nonsense: "Although Junior Brother Mo is at fault, he loves his fellow students and helps the weak. Please treat consider being lenient for the sake of his kind nature!"
Obviously, he was not the only one hoping to please Junior Brother Mo.
Gradually, more and more people spoke up for Mo Ran. They threw out all sorts of arguments, it made even Mo Ran embarrassed to hear; when had he ever had "an innocent heart, pure and open-minded"? This was a disciplinary meeting, not a commendation meeting, right?
"Elder Yuheng, Junior Brother Mo once helped me exterminate demons and killed deadly beasts. I would like to beg on Junior Brother Mo's behalf. His merits will offset his demerits, and I hope that Elder will lighten his punishment!"
"Elder Yuheng, Junior Brother Mo once helped me dispel my demons when I experience qi deviation. I believe Junior Brother Mo made a mistake this time and was only momentarily confused. I also ask Elder to please be lenient on Junior Brother!"
"Elder Yuheng, Junior Brother Mo once gave me an elixir to save my mother. He is a benevolent person. Please, Elder, punish him lightly!"
The last person’s remarks were based on the previous disciples', and he was at a loss for words. Seeing Chu Wanning's frozen eyes sweep over, the anxious disciple didn't hesitate to say: “Elder Yuheng, Junior Brother Mo once helped me dual cultivate--”
"Pff." Someone couldn't help laughing.
The disciple immediately blushed and retreated.
"Yuheng, calm your anger, calm your anger..." Seeing that the chief elder was not happy, he went to his side and hurriedly persuaded him.
Chu Wanning said coldly: "I have never seen such a shameless person. What is his name? Whose disciple?"
The chief elder hesitated a little, then bit the bullet and said softly, "My disciple, Yao Lian."
Chu Wanning raised his eyebrows: "Your disciple? Save face*?"
(Pronounced the same as Yao Lian's name)
The chief elder couldn't help but feel embarrassed, and his old face tried to change the subject with a red face: "He's talented at singing, and he can be useful when he receives the offerings."
Chu Wanning scoffed and turned away, not wanting to waste time talking nonsense with this shameless chief elder.
There were thousands of people on Life-Death Peak. A couple flatterers were nothing surprising.
Seeing the conviction in the faces of his sect brothers, Mo Ran himself almost trusted their words. Very impressive indeed. It turns out he wasn't the only person in this sect that knew how to concoct wild stories in broad daylight. There were many talented people here.
Chu Wanning, who had heard "Elder Yuheng, please be merciful" countless times, finally spoke to the disciples.
"Pleading for Mo Weiyu?" He paused and said, "Yes, all of you may come up."
Those people didn't know what would happen and went up tremblingly.
A golden light flashed in Chu Wanning's palm. Tianwen appeared as commanded, and wrapped around the dozens of people together with a whistle, and tied them firmly in place.
Not again!!
Mo Ran was beginning to get desperate. Just the sight of Tianwen made his legs weak. He really didn’t know where Chu Wanning got such a perverted weapon. It was a good thing he had never taken a wife in his previous life. The poor girl who would marry him, if she didn't get whipped to death, she would be questioned to death.
Chu Wanning's eyes were quite mocking. He asked one of them: "Mo Ran helped you ward off evil spirits?"
How could the disciple resist the torture of TIanwen? He immediately howled: "No! No!"
He asked another one: "Mo Ran helped you overcome your qi deviation?"
"Ah! Never! Never!"
"Mo Ran gave you an elixir?"
"Ah—! Help! No, no! I made it up! I made it up!"
Chu Wanning loosened the hold, but then raised his hand and waved the weapon fiercely, it crackling and blazing, Tianwen suddenly lashed out and hit the backs of the lying disciples.
There were screams instantly, blood splashing.
Chu Wanning's eyebrows furrowed, and he scolded: "What are you calling? Kneel down! Disciple attendant!"
"Here."
"Deliver the punishment!"
"Understood!"
As a result, instead of reaping the benefits of defending Mo Ran, each of them was beaten with ten strikes each for violating the mandate of deception, plus a bonus willow vine lash gifted by Elder Yuheng.
After nightfall, Mo Ran lay on his bed. Although he had been given medicine, his back was covered with staggered scars. He couldn't even turn himself over without almost crying from the pain. He sniffled.
He had been born, so whimpering like this made him look like a fluffy, abandoned kitten. But it was a pity that his thoughts didn't match that cute kitten image.
He gripped the bedding and bit into the sheets, imagining that this was that bastard Chu Wanning. He bit! Kicked! Stomped! Tore!
The only comfort is that Shi Mei came to visit him with a bowl of wontons. He stared at him with those gentle and pitiful eyes, and Mo Ran's tears fell even more fiercely.
He didn't care whether men were supposed to hold in their tears or not, he loved to act spoiled in front of the person he liked.
"Does it still hurt a lot? Can you sit up?" Shi Mei sat on the edge of his bed and sighed. "Shizun, he. . . he was too cruel. Look at your back. . . there are several wounds. Some are still bleeding."
Mo Ran's heart softened, a warmth gradually rose in his chest. His teary eyes lifted from the bedding and he blinked.
"Since Shi Mei cares about me so much, I, I'm not in too much pain anymore."
"Oh, how can it not hurt if you look like this? You know what Shizun's temperament is like, will you dare do something like this in the future?"
In the candlelight, Shi Mei looked at him a little helplessly and a little distressedly. The amorous eyes were gleaming, like warm spring water.
Mo Ran's heart moved slightly, and he cleverly said: "Never again. I swear.
"Does anyone believe your promises anymore?" Even though he said that, Shi Mei also smiled, "The wontons are getting cold, can you sit up? If you can't get up, just lie on your stomach and I will feed you."
Mo Ran had already climbed up halfway, but immediately collapsed back down when he heard this.
Shi Mei: ". . ."
Whether it was this life or his previous one, Mo Ran's favourite food was Shi Mei's handmade wontons. The dough was as thin as a cloud of smoke, and the filling was tender and moist, melting in his mouth after every bite.
Especially the soup, the milky consistency, sprinkled with green onions, tender yellow egg wisps, and topped with a spoonful of spicy chilli peppers fried with garlic. It made whoever ate it feel so warm that they would never be cold again.
Shi Mei carefully spoonfed him. While feeding him, he said: "I didn't put any chilli oil today. You're badly hurt. Spice isn't good for recovery. Just drink the broth instead."
Mo Ran stared at him and he couldn't look away. He smiled: "Spicy or not, as long as you made it, it's delicious."
"Smooth talker." Shi Mei also smiled, picking up a poached egg lying in the soup, "Here's your reward, I know you like them."
Mo Ran laughed, a small tuft of hair curling on his forehead, like a flower blooming: "Shi Mei."
"What's happening?"
"Nothing, I just felt like saying your name."
". . ."
The hair tuft swayed back and forth.
"Shi Mei."
Shi Mei held back a smile: "Just felt like it again?"
"Hmm, just saying your name makes me happy."
Shi Mei sat silently for a moment then gently touched his forehead: "Silly boy, do you have a fever?"
Mo Ran let out a laugh. He rolled over, looking at him sideways, his eyes bright, as if full of fine stars.
"It would be a dream if I could eat Shi Mei's wontons every day"
He truly meant it.
After Shi Mei died, Mo Ran had always wanted to try the wontons he made again, but it is what it is, and he wasn't coming back.
At that time, Chu Wanning hadn't completely broken off all relations with him. Whether it was out of guilt or something else, he didn't know, but when he saw Mo Ran knelt in front of Shi Mei's coffin in a daze, Chu Wanning went quietly to the kitchen, kneaded dough and minced the fillings, carefully folded a couple wontons. But Mo Ran saw what he was doing before he had finished. With the loss of the love of his life, Mo Ran just couldn't bear it. He felt like Chu Wanning was doing it to mock him, a botched attempt at imitating them, a deliberate insult to injury.
Shi Mei was dead. Chu Wanning could have saved him, but he refused to help. Afterwards, he wanted to replace Shi Mei and make wontons for Mo Ran instead? Did he think that this would make him happy?
He rushed into the kitchen and knocked over all the utensils. The round wontons fell out of his hands and all over the floor.
He screamed at Chu Wanning: "Who the hell do you think you are? You think you're worthy of replacing him? Of making the food he used to? Shi Mei is dead, are you satisfied? Or do you have to torture your disciples until they go mad or die before you're happy? Chu Wanning! No one in this world can make those wontons anymore. You can try but you'll never be him!"
Now he was eating this bowl with such deep joy. He slowly ate them, savouring them. Although he was still smiling, his eyes were a little moist. Fortunately, the candlelight was dim, and Shi Mei couldn't see his subtle expression clearly.
Mo Ran said: "Shi Mei."
"Yes?"
"Thank you."
Shi Mei froze for a moment, and then smiled gently: "Isn't it just a bowl of wontons? No need to be so formal about it. If you like them, I will always make them for you in the future."
Mo Ran wanted to say, the thanks wasn't just for the wontons.
Thank you also, whether in the last life or in this life, for being the only one to look out for me, not caring about my origins, didn't care about the fourteen years I spent scavenging around.
Thank you, because if it weren't for the sudden thought of you, after being reborn, I'm afraid I would not be able to stop myself from killing Rong Jiu. I would've made a big mistake, and walked the same path I had before.
Fortunately, in this life, I was reborn before you die. I will definitely take good care of you. If you are sick, and that cold-blooded demon Chu Wanning is unwilling to save you, I will.
But how could he have said these words aloud?
In the end, Mo Ran just drank the soup, leaving not even a single green onion behind. He licked his lips unconsciously, his dimples prominent, and he was as cute as a very fluffy little cat.
"Will there be more tomorrow?"
Shi Mei couldn't help but shake his head: "You don't want something else? Won't you get sick of them?"
"I'll never get tired of your wontons, as long as you don't get tired of making them."
Shi Mei shook his head and smiled: "I don't know if there's enough flour left. If there's not enough, I'm afraid I can't make it. If I can't, do you think the eggs in sweet soup are alright instead? They are also one of your favourites."
"Okay, okay. As long as you make it, anything is okay."
Mo Ran's heart surged. He was so happy he could roll around in the blankets.
Look at caring Shi Mei is, Chu Wanning, you go screw yourself! I get to lie in bed with a beauty taking care of me, hehe!
Thinking of Shizun, a rush of anger mixed with the tenderness he had been feeling.
Mo Ran started to dig the bottom of the headboard with resentment again. He cursed, what Yuheng of the Night Sky, what the Beidou Immortal, it's all fucking bullshit!
Chu Wanning, just wait and see!!

a list of moments when Shen Qiao utterly destroyed his opponents, ranked by how feral they made me
look. I am a simple person. I live to see the kindest, nicest characters absolutely lay into other people who have it coming. what can I say? this book delivered.
spoilers for 《千秋》 ahead, you have been warned
honorable mention: Shen Qiao tearing Tan Yuanchun a new one for not believing him, but I’m overall unimpressed with Tan Yuanchun as a person so he doesn’t get to be in the top five, moving on--
#5: rematch with Kun Ye -- we love characters getting closure, and Shen Qiao’s rematch with Kun Ye is the auspicious beginning of the sequence of events through which Shen Qiao gets to reclaim his rightful position in the jianghu as Actually, One Of The People You Should Be Very Afraid Of. Shen Qiao proves once and for all that there’s no way Kun Ye could have defeated him without sabotaging their first duel, and runs him through without hesitation before uttering this absolutely brutal takedown:
“我很失望。我师尊说过,狐鹿估是一个令人尊敬的对手,而你,身为狐鹿估的弟子,却不及其十之一二,你不配当他的弟子!”
“I’m very disappointed. My shizun once said that Hu Lugu was an opponent to be respected and honored, but you, as Hu Lugu’s disciple, can hardly match up to a tenth of your master. You are not worthy of being his disciple!”
Is there any greater shame than Shen Qiao looking upon you and pronouncing you unworthy? I! Think! Not!
#4: coolly killing the Hehuan elders without batting an eye before the gates of Chang’an -- though rumors are starting to pick up at this point about Shen Qiao not being as much of a pushover as his initial loss to Kun Ye made him out to be, this fight really cements how much of a threat he truly is before the eyes of an entire city. We don’t really know or care about Bao Yun and Yan Shou before Shen Qiao waters the dust with their blood in a three-on-one melee (while simultaneously protecting two smol children, multitasking king), but we appreciate their sacrifice in raising Shen Qiao’s standing in the jianghu. Though there is no pithy one-liner in this scene, this fight manages to edge into fourth place on this ranking because of how decisive and iconic it is.
ETA: I was wrong, there IS a pithy one-liner in this scene, and it’s Shen Qiao showing up to the fight with “三位手下败将,贫道来迟一步,还望恕罪” / “Greetings to my three defeated opponents, this humble Daoist has arrived late and begs your forgiveness” which is. oh my god. Shen Qiao later stabs one of the Hehuan elders through the throat but I think even that’s less vicious than this burn
#3: dropping a one-liner before beating Sang Jingxing into the ground while taking back his rightful place at the head of Xuandu Shan -- again, we love a rematch in which the playing field is actually level and Shen Qiao not placed at a horrible disadvantage. Sang Jingxing is one of the few Actively Despicable characters in the book who likes to torment people simply because he can, and Shen Qiao very nearly lost his life trying to take down Sang Jingxing less than a hundred chapters ago. And so, this exchange:
[...]
[...]
Shen Qiao said, “What a pity.”
Sang Jingxing said, “You liked her?”
Shen Qiao said, “Though Yuan-zongzhu may be a woman, at least compared to you, she had the manner and bearing of a true sect leader. If you were to become sect leader, I only fear that after today, the status of Hehuan Zong must change.”
Sang Jingxing’s anger turned into laughter in its extremity. “What does that mean?”
Shen Qiao said, “That means that I’m about to kill you.”
This, coming from Shen Qiao, our protagonist with a chronic forgiveness problem? This, from Shen Qiao, who once went back to rescue a man who had sold him out to an enemy? oh HECK yes, get ‘em, a-Qiao, I’ll hold your flower
#2: roasting Chen Gong after the Chang’an coup -- hello, it’s me again with my weakness for narrative resonance and emotional closure. Chen Gong has been with us since nearly the beginning of Shen Qiao’s journey, and I, like Shen Qiao, really hoped that Chen Gong would be so much better than he ended up becoming, but this man really kept making questionable decisions and then doubling down on them. 孺子不可教也, alas.
This confrontation ranks so high because of 1) the long narrative set-up, 2) its thematic resonance, and 3) the absolutely devastating one-liner:
他摇摇头:“陈恭,你不配练武。”
Shen Qiao shook his head. “Chen Gong--you are not worthy enough to practice the martial arts.”
Considering that a major theme in the book is the question of power--who has it, what can you do with it, what should you do with it, what is the morality of obtaining it--this moment comes back full circle to Shen Qiao and Chen Gong at the beginning of the book: Shen Qiao telling Chen Gong that he has potential, that he could make something of himself. As it turns out, Chen Gong is naturally gifted, and he does make something of himself, but in doing so, he loses that original core of goodness that Shen Qiao had seen in him. In this moment, Shen Qiao enacts a justice aligned with his own beliefs and values--that the possession of power should come hand-in-hand with the possession of a good heart. Chen Gong has been evaluated against these standards, and found unworthy.
#1: absolutely destroying Yu Ai in a Chang’an tea shop -- this exchange knocked the breath out of my goddamn lungs when I first read it, and remains probably my favorite Shen Qiao moment to this day. To recap: Yu Ai had sabotaged Shen Qiao in the most important duel of his life, functionally catalyzed his chronic health problems and ongoing vision issues thanks to an exotic poison because oh no, Shen Qiao’s high cultivation made him immune to most normal poisons so Yu Ai had no other choice or whatever. And after Shen Qiao decides--reasonably and generously!--to depart from Xuandu Shan with no fanfare or fuss, without even exposing the depths of Yu Ai’s betrayal, Yu Ai instead tries to force him to stay by fighting him and injuring him again, to the point where Shen Qiao has to call on Yan Wushi to get him out of the situation.
You’d think Yu Ai would take a hint.
But nooooooo, he calls out Shen Qiao in the middle of a crowded Chang’an tea shop, demands that Shen Qiao come back to Xuandu Shan with him, and Shen Qiao, without even batting an eye, hits back with the revelation of every dirty secret that he’s been covering up for Yu Ai and excommunicates him from the ranks of Qi Fengge’s disciples and then fights Yu Ai to a standstill before saying:
“你既然已经带着玄都山弟子踏出那一步,就要做好承担所有后果的准备,有朝一日你再也承担不了那个后果的时候,我会亲自去找你。”
"Since you’ve already led the disciples of Xuandu Shan into taking the first step down this road, then you must make the due preparations for facing the consequences of your actions. When the day dawns that you can no longer carry the weight of those consequences, I will personally come find you.”
《千秋》 is a giant, sprawling novel featuring complex plotting, delightfully complicated themes, gray and grayer morality, but the tl;dr of the entire book really just boils down to:
don’t fuck with Shen Qiao, because if Yan Wushi doesn’t get to you first, then Shen Qiao eventually will
and you won’t be much better off afterwards either

Yearning willow masterpost
Chu Wanning 0.5
As Xue Zhengyong had said, even though Mo Ran barely knew how to write and read when he arrived to Xue-fu, he was a bright boy and made impressive progress in short time.
At the beginning, Chu Wanning used to sit with him to teach him to write.
First, he taught him how to write his name. Then, the names of his parents, so he could abstain from naming them.
In retrospective, Chu Wanning should have found it strange that he allowed Rong Jiu to serve him without changing his name.
Mo Ran made excellent progress, and in two months they were already moving on to easy poems, so he could learn new characters and some literature. At least Mo Ran didn’t call Sun-zi “that grandson” again, if only to avoid Xue Meng’s scorn.
“Shizun, shizun,” Mo Ran called him, “can you write that again? I didn’t catch the strokes.”
“Fine,” Chu Wanning said, “but you have to try for yourself after this time.”
Yet, Chu Wanning noticed Mo Ran was looking at him instead of looking at the paper when lifted his head again. Was there something on his face? He frowned. Maybe the ink had splashed on his cheek?
He wiped his face self-consciously as Mo Ran tried on his own again. Chu Wanning followed his strokes with a critical eye, clicking his tongue when Mo Ran drew a stroke wrong again.
Instead of demonstrating again, he simply moved over and used his own hand to cover Mo Ran’s, guiding his hand through the motions.
Mo Ran’s hand was warm under his own.
“Steady your hand. The last stroke here goes from right to left,” he said, moving their hands together as he spoke, “with a flick of your wrist.”
Mo Ran hummed absentmindedly, watching the elegant and clear characters Chu Wanning had written next to his own disproportionate and messy strokes.
“Shizun, please come here and have a look at mine!” Xue Meng called from the other side of the room.
“Practice on your own,” Chu Wanning told him, as he went to have a look at Xue Meng’s calligraphy.
When he came back at Mo Ran’s table a while later, he was still contemplating the lines Chu Wanning had written for his reference.
辛苦最怜天上月,一夕如环,夕夕都成玦。
若似月轮终皎洁,不辞冰雪为卿热。
“I pity most the moon, working hard in the sky;” Mo Ran read under his breath, munching on the words. “Round like a jade bracelet on one night, while flawed night after night.”
Chu Wanning nodded approvingly to himself. It was quite good that he knew them all already, even though “bracelet” and “flawed” were new characters he had just learnt today. Mo Ran looked up from the table and smiled at him.
“Could I ask shizun to read the other lines for me?”
With a nod, Chu Wanning read the other two lines for him, sitting down again next to his student. His other students were all concentrated in their own texts. Except Xue Meng, who called for him often during their lessons trying to get back the attention of his esteemed teacher, Shi Mei and Nangong Si had taken graciously Mo Ran’s arrival.
“If life was like the moon, it would eventually turn full and bright again, I wouldn’t decline to freeze my body with ice and snow to quell your fever for you.”
“Shizun, what does this poem mean?” Mo Ran asked.
By now, Mo Ran knew he shouldn’t take words at their face value. Chu Wanning had a predilection for using poems to introduce new characters, because it didn’t just show new characters to him. Poems had an easy rhythm, and it could teach him literature and history at the same time.
“The poet wrote these verses lamenting the passing of his deceased wife,” Chu Wanning explained. “He claimed that most of the time, the moon is flawed, but it will eventually return to a perfect full moon once a month. However, once a loved is dead, no matter what efforts he could make, they’d never come back to life again.”
Mo Ran hummed in understanding. For a second, Chu Wanning thought he had seen a twist in his mouth, but a second later Mo Ran was back to his usual dimpled smile.
“Why would he take such a roundabout way to say that he’s sad?”
Instead of an answer, Chu Wanning scowled and pierced him with his eyes. Mo Ran had shown no appreciation for the art of poetry, and he wouldn’t no matter what Chu Wanning brought to class, and he made his opinion widely known.
However, despite just knowing Chu Wanning for a couple of months, Mo Ran showed no sign of fear and just giggled at him.
“Get back to your work.”
***
Since Chu Wanning met Mo Ran not long after he arrived to Xue-fu, he was also present when Mo Ran met Shi Mei, at his first lesson with all of his students.
At times, he wished he could forget about them.
***
It was considered taboo to pronounce certain names, like your parents' names and the emperor's.
The poem is “Butterfly in love with the flowers”, by Nalan Xingde.

Finally started a writing blog! Hopefully this give me some incentive to update a bit more frequently... 😅
Fandom: Scum Villain
Ship: Bingqiu, background Moshang
Summary: When it was all said and done, Shen Qingqiu comforted himself that the end of the plot meant that, surely, all major events were out of the way. They were firmly in HEA territory and he could relax a little. Right? Right.
A year and a half into his marriage to the protagonist, he cursed himself for a fool when he woke next to a Luo Binghe from ten years in the past.
Meanwhile, a recently transmigrated Shen Yuan struggled to retain what little face he had when confronted with an overgrown, disturbingly gorgeous demon lord claiming to be his husband. Which is impossible, because he’s straight, the most hetero heterosexual to exist. System? A little help here??
Status: 6/7 Chapters Posted
Sequels: Yes! They will be mutually exclusive timelines (all with LBH and SQQ ending up together, but different ships) branching out from this story.
Excerpt below the break (from chapter 2).
He was kissing the protagonist.
Oh, what the fuck.
Before Shen Qingqiu could gather himself to pull away (because holy shit, what the fuck, what the fuck was he doing!), a loud noise made him jerk back abruptly with a gasp.
Luo Binghe seemed unconcerned with the commotion, eyes not leaving his face and fingers lightly stroking his cheek with such care that it made Shen Qingqiu almost want to believe the wild assertion that they were married. “So beautiful.”
“How–“ are you here was what he intended to say when his bedroom door was knocked off its hinges. He turned and saw Liu Qingge standing in the threshold, breaths heavy and eyes flicking between him and Luo Binghe.
He then realized what this looked like.
Shameless, he was so shameless! Shen Qingqiu groped at his dressing table blindly for a fan. To his surprise, Luo Binghe placed one gently in his hand. He shot him a grateful look in response only to immediately regret it.
Binghe! Why do you look so smug!
Oh, what the fuck.
“Liu-shishu,” Luo Binghe all but purred at his martial uncle. “Interesting that you’re here first. My money was on the Sect Leader.”
What?
“Get away from him,” Liu Qingge demanded, drawing Cheng Luan to Shen Qingqiu’s great alarm.
If there was one thing that could snap Shen Qingqiu back into a situation, it was a threat to the inner sanctum he had created in this insane world. “No, no! I don’t know what you think you’re doing, Liu-shidi, but you will not be fighting in my home!”
“I am removing an intruder.”
All formalities forgotten, Shen Qingqiu snapped. “It's my bedroom! You would think I would know better who is an intruder here than you!”
Both Shen Qingqiu and Liu Qingge blushed at his words. Even Luo Binge looked at him in pleased surprise before somehow radiating even more smugness towards the other Peak Lord.
He couldn’t take this anymore. He was at his limit. “Both of you! Get out! I need to think and I want to eat my breakfast in peace.”
“…”
“What’s that look?” Shen Qingqiu demanded.
“…You were going to eat that?”
Luo Binghe winced.
“What. Did you do. To my food.”
Liu Qingge looked at him like he had a few screws loose. “You really would have eaten food from this man?”
“It’s Binghe! I eat his food every day!”
“Did you miss the fact that he’s clearly not your teenage disciple or did he enchant you to forget?”
Luo Binghe scoffed. “First, you’re underestimating Shizun’s ability if you think he could be bespelled so easily. Second, I don’t need magic to distract my husband when a touch would do.”
“…”
Shen Qingqiu kicked them both out with all the dignity he could muster, which wasn’t much after Luo Binghe’s pronouncement. He was doing his best to pretend nothing was said because otherwise he felt his face would melt off, but that didn’t stop even Shen Qingqiu’s elegant body from going beet red. The shamelessness really was too much!!
Once his house was otherwise empty, Shen Qingqiu at his table (sans breakfast, damn you, Liu-shidi!) and buried his face in his hands. System? What the hell is happening?
[Thank you for contacting the System! Host is participating in the Special Event, “Back to the Future,” triggered by an alternate version of Host for his success in the mission “Marital Bliss!” Please enjoy your limited time with the alternate version of the Protagonist while you can!]

[Yes, the Host that triggered this Event has been married to the Protagonist for one year, five months, and eighteen days, and remains the Protagonist’s only intended spouse.]

The Husky and His White Cat ShiZun v1
(English 7Seas version) Notes 1 of 2
I finished book 1 of the Seven Seas' 2Ha! (Pronounced "er-ha" or "R-Ha", for those of you who don't actually speak Chinese ;p)
It was great. The translation is smooth and easy to read, and I feel like it conveys the story really well.
As I prepare to hand this book over to my non-Chinese friends, I do have a few notes.
(Audio recordings and book-note images under the cut)
1 ) Go ahead and skim through the Name Guide, Pronunciation Guide, and Glossary. In addition, here are how the names are supposed to sound:
2) Next! Book images for Pages 1-182.
So, I think the translators did a great job on this.
Even so, there are a few places where I think my background may differ from that of the translators, so the tone of a word or phrase felt wrong to me even though it was technically correct.
And I like how they kept the Chinese for a lot of words that don't translate well, but they didn't always put footnotes for those words or names, so I penciled a few in.
I hope this makes your reading experience even more enjoyable!

Note
what is 2ha about? do you have a link to the tl???
hello!! oh my god I don’t even know where to begin (๑✧∀✧๑)
2ha is short for 二哈和他的白猫师尊, lit “the husky and his white cat shizun”, a bl novel by 肉包不吃肉 “meatbun doesn’t eat meat”. commonly known as 2ha because 二 is Chinese for the number 2 and 哈 is pronounced as ha.
the name of the novel sounds really fun and fluffy and innocent... but it really... is not (゚Д゚;)
the main pairing is between a master (Chu Wan Ning) and his disciple (Mo Ran / Mo Wei Yu), and the novel starts off with Mo Ran the tyrannical emperor (30+ yo) taking his own life and then waking up some 15-17 years past, when he was still an innocent (ish) youth and still under the tutelage of Chu Wan Ning and basically before he did all the Bad Things. he takes this as an opportunity to try to change what he knows comes next... but of course PlotTM happens and he finds out that the events of his past life and rebirth were not what he had always thought them to be (*cough* cryptic)
@baoshan-sanren has done another two summaries of 2ha [here and here] which are much more detailed (with minor spoilers)!
the entire novel is quite plot heavy and there are a total of 311 chapters split into 3 books, with a bunch of extras. they’re currently being translated by rynn here which are really good because what’s helpful is that before each chapter/ section, rynn will put in warnings for any triggers that will pop up... and there are a lot of triggers in this novel:
rape, underage sex, explicit sex, gore, corporal punishment, unhealthy relationships, questionable principles, among other immoralities
- from rynn’s carrd
rynn’s currently at chapters ~120-130+ (I don’t keep track), so most people who can’t wait end up going over to read the machine translations here. I’ve not taken a look at these before, but I’ve heard of a mixture of reviews from “I can’t understand it at all” to “it’s quite readable actually” so at your own risk
BUT all these warnings aside, I would really recommend giving this a go because
1. the plot: it’s a long novel compared to mdzs and even tgcf, but really really well crafted. even in the earlier chapters, meatbun already drops hints as to what will unfold later in the novel. ALSO there are a lot of plot twists and I don’t recommend searching characters ahead because I made the mistake of curiously searching them up on baidu MULTIPLE TIMES and *cough* spoiled a few of these for myself (╯ಠ‿ಠ)╯︵┻━┻
2. the characters: most of them are really well developed and fleshed out and even the side characters have their own backstories. this is one of the cases where it’s difficult to hate the big bad (for me at least, I think there are people who hate them to the core, to each their own I guess) because their motivations are just that convincing
3. THE KNIVES: mdzs was pain but this... this was a whole new level. and for someone who really loves angst and pain (*cough* me), this novel will be RAW.
4. the live adaptation that’s slated to be released in 2021: a dedicated fan had made a fan video (which I can’t find anymore ;_;) compiling scenes starring Luo Yun Xi (in Ashes of Love) and Chen Fei Yu (in Ever Night (? I think)). it started out as a fan cast but it caught the attention fo the 2ha live action drama producer... who really ended up casting Luo Yun Xi and Chen Fei Yu as Chu Wan Ning and Mo Ran respectively.
filming for the live adaptation is currently underway and if the bts leaks are revealing anything, it’s that they are *perfect* for their roles (right down to the height difference) ゚.+(〃ノωノ)゚.+°
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this answer turned out... longer than expected. but hope it helped it some way!! ^^ I am shitting my pants waiting for the live action to be out because I want to cry and also at the same time watch how people react to the plot twists because the ploT IS SO DAMN GOOD (and also very painful)

Baby Girl Finale: Chapter 9
Naruto and Shizune returned to the Uchiha manor later that afternoon and found Sasuke sleeping with the infant, Sakura. Shizune went to her room while Naruto plopped himself beside them when he heard Sasuke speak.
"Where's Kakashi?" He asked.
"Oy, Teme! I thought you were asleep!" Naruto exclaimed.
"No. I just couldn't move." He answered, pointing to Sakura who used his arm as a pillow.
Naruto poked the side of Sakura's thigh, then her stomach and finally her cheek.
"What do you think you're doing, you idiot?" Sasuke asked, watching Naruto as he continued to poke several of Sakura's body parts.
"I'm trying to stir her away from your arm." He whispered.
"Stop it!" Sasuke hissed but Sakura did stir and move away from his arm while she was still asleep.
"See, Teme? Told you it would work." The blonde ninja said cockily.
Naruto sat up on the futon as Sasuke also rose. The blonde ninja answered his best friend's first question.
"Kakashi's still with Tsunade. They lost the signal on Shikamaru's team and they're trying to reconnect it in order to locate them."
Sasuke remained silent but Naruto noticed his stillness. The latter knew that Sasuke wanted to be at the tower but he was torn between wanting to help and not wanting to leave Sakura's side. Furthermore, the Godaime wasn't very fond of him and Sasuke knew that so, he only made it to a point to be at the Hokage's office if his services were called for.
"Hey, it's okay. I'm sure everything's going to be fine." Naruto said.
"But we're running out of time." Sasuke muttered.
"Teme, Sakura's going to be fine." The blonde ninja assured him and peered over Sakura. "See, she's even awake now."
Naruto made a face to try and make Sakura laugh but instead of hearing laughter, the pink-haired shinobi belted a shrilly cry.
"Dammit, Naruto! It's the first time she cried today!" Sasuke scolded.
"What? But, I didn't mean to!"
"It's because of your ugly face." Sasuke mocked.
"Oy, Sasuke! You—." But Naruto snobbed Sasuke and turned his attention towards little Sakura. "Now how does Kakashi do it again?" He muttered to himself and picked Sakura up.
"Hmm…she seems kinda heavy?" Naruto commented.
"What do you mean?" Sasuke asked.
"Well, that's because her diaper's full, silly. Now, give me the little girl and I'll take care of it." Shizune offered when she entered the main wing.
**********
It was an early night for the Uchiha manor that night. Naruto stayed at home and Shizune prepared their dinner. After eating their meals and taking their respective baths, they killed the time by lounging at the main wing where they taught Sakura how to speak as they kept hearing her mumble all the time.
"C'mon Sakura, you can do it! It's Naruto. Na-ru-to." Naruto urged the pink-haired shinobi to learn his name after being able to muster Shizune’s and Sasuke's name after several tries. He remembered that Sakura pronounced Shizune as Ji-ju-ne and Sasuke as Das-ke, but when it came to Naruto she won't even try and just pouted her lips.
"It seems to me that she hates you, Naruto." Shizune teased.
"That's because this idiot right here disturbed her sleep. Nobody wants their sleep to be disturbed, even for a baby." Sasuke muttered. When suddenly, Kakashi poofed in front of them gaining a squeal from the infant who witnessed the smoke cloud.
"Yo." The silver-haired shinobi greeted.
"How's Lady Tsunade?" It was Shizune who asked first.
"She told me to tell you that she's going to drink her ass off until she passes out." Kakashi replied, earning a face-palm from the Godaime's assistant. It was Sasuke's turn to ask as Naruto still busied himself in teaching Sakura his name.
"How about Shikamaru's team? Have you located them?"
The silver-haired shinobi nodded.
"They're actually a few miles near the border of Konoha already. They're signal got cut off because they encountered a storm on their way home."
Sasuke relaxed a little because of the information Kakashi told him.
"I'm not going to stay long though, I just need to get some things and then I'll have to head back to the tower." Kakashi said. Sasuke and Shizune nodded when Naruto suddenly disrupted their conversation.
"Okay! Our Sakura has learned a few words today!" Naruto said proudly. Kakashi smiled at the display of fun and affection the team had over the baby. He decided to stay for a bit and witness what Naruto had been up to.
"Sakura is going to name all of us in this room. That's right! Our little girl right here has learned our names in just a short span of time. Even yours Kakashi!" The blonde ninja exclaimed and pointed to his former sensei while looking at Sakura.
"Ashi!" Sakura exclaimed.
"See!" Naruto beamed at the little girl and urged her to try again.
"Okay, let's try it one more time, Sakura." Naruto pointed at Shizune.
"Ji-ju-ne." The little shinobi mumbled, earning an applause from all those who were present in the room. Naruto pointed next to Kakashi. The silver-haired ninja actually went still, anticipating the sound of his name on the little girl's lips one more time. But Naruto made a subtle signal and Sakura's petite face frowned for a moment then suddenly she radiated an adorable smile.
Naruto pointed to Kakashi one more time, and the next words that came out of the little shinobi's lips had them laughing while Kakashi slightly blushed because of it.
Sakura just called him 'papa.'
But when Naruto pointed to Sasuke, the pink-haired ninja mumbled papa too, and finally, when it came to Naruto. Sakura mumbled the words 'mama', which had them clutching their bellies because of the strength of their laughter.
"Oh god, that was a good one, Naruto." Shizune commented in between laughs, earning a scowl from the kyuubi. Sasuke remained silent but there was obviously a smirk plastered on his face.
"I guess Sakura only remembers you for your sexy jutsu." Kakashi remarked as he went near Sakura and lifted her up. "You're a good girl aren't you?" Kakashi told her as he gently ruffled the little girl's hair with his free hand.
Eventually, Kakashi had to leave again but assured them that he'll be back to inform them about team Shikamaru's progress.
They perfectly knew that Sakura's time was slowly running out and that she'd probably disappear at the crack of dawn, but when Kakashi told Naruto and Sasuke that Shikamaru's team was about to make it back, they relaxed considerably. After all, the mission was handed to Shikamaru acting as the team leader, and they knew that their friend was the boy genius even back on their genin days. That mere thought gave them the assurance to allow themselves to play with Sakura until she eventually fell asleep.
Before going to bed, Shizune changed Sakura into a more comfortable sleep wear, and in place of her usual diaper, a soft cotton underwear was in place. The Godaime's assistant then excused herself to finally go to the privacy of the guest room given to her until the only ones who were left awake were Naruto and Sasuke who were laying on the futons they placed in the main living room, guarding the sleeping infant in between them.
After turning off the lights inside the mansion, both of them decided to let the shoji doors stay open so that the dainty glow of the moonlight could seep through the room.
"And now we wait." Naruto whispered.
"And waiting is the hardest part." Sasuke whispered back, his body facing Sakura's sleeping form.
"You know she won't disappear right, Sasuke?" Naruto asked, taking note of how the blonde ninja used his name instead of his usual 'Teme.' Sasuke knew that his best friend was, in all honesty, nervous. So this time, Sasuke decided that it was his time to assure his friend.
"Don't worry. She won't." He whispered firmly, catching a glimpse of smile from his friend before they finally drifted towards their own slumber.
When Sasuke awoke in the middle of the night, his body clock told him that it was only about half past two in the morning. But he instantly bolted upright the moment he noticed that Sakura was missing.
"Goddamit!" Sasuke muttered under his breath as he scrambled to his feet to search for the missing baby.
'She likes doing this stuff! She likes making me worry too much. She's so annoying.' He continued muttering internally but went to look for her all the same. It didn't take him long though, to find Sakura. Because the moment he stood up, Kakashi greeted him with his usual hand wave.
He was seated on a huge wooden arm chair pushed at one corner of the room with Sakura sleeping peacefully on his belly. Sasuke noticed that Kakashi was gently tapping Sakura's behind. He exhaled a frustrated breath.
"She's a sneaky little girl you know. I found her outside, almost at the lawn, probably gonna visit the koi pond again." Kakashi started as Sasuke made his way on one of the sofas near him and lied down. "She has 'ninja' written all over her. Sneaky little girl indeed." Kakashi smiled.
"Kakashi." Sasuke called to his former sensei.
"Hmm?"
Sasuke wasn't usually used in asking for help but if Sakura was going to stay an infant, he had to learn the works immediately.
"H-how…how do you make her calm down?" The raven-haired shinobi asked, earning a crinkle of smile on Kakashi's visible eye.
"It's actually really simple. You just have to know where and how to touch her." His former sensei stated which earned him an evil eye from Sasuke. This made Kakashi laugh softly.
"It's not what you think. It probably is, but not quite." Kakashi said.
"Just get to the point." Sasuke muttered.
"First, you have to be calm when you approach her…most especially when you carry her because Sakura can feel your heartbeat. And when she feels that you're uncomfortable, Sakura actually doubles what you feel, that's why she throws her tantrums sometimes."
Sasuke started creating mental notes on what Kakashi was saying.
"The next one is…if she's still crying after you've carried her, rub her back gently; and if you feel like she's squirming in your arms, let your hand reach her backside. She likes being rubbed in her behind…"
Kakashi let out an involuntary cough, fully comprehending the underlying message on what he just said. So he tried to restructure it, lest he wanted a war to start between him and Sasuke. "Her child form, I mean." He added, hastily.
"Finally, if you want her to fall asleep, instead of rubbing her back side, you have to make soft tapping movements, like this." Sasuke turned his head to look at his former sensei, his mangekyo sharingan activated, only to take note of the proper way to do the 'soft tapping movements.'
"And if none of it works, start humming. The vibrations of your voice could also calm her down. You can also rock her from side to side, that's a bonus." Kakashi said.
Sasuke was about to ask something more when two Anbu members materialized in the front lawn. Sasuke and Kakashi immediately stood up as their presence was a sign that something was amiss.
Naruto also bolted upright with Shizune appearing a few moments later. All of them had been awake all along. They've probably anticipated something like this to happen. After all, they believed in the saying 'the calm before the storm,' and this was it.
"The Lady Hokage has requested your urgent presence in the tower now." The member in the cat mask said. All of them nodded and without even questioning further, the shinobis made their way to the Hokage tower.
**********
"Shikamaru's team had encountered rogue ninjas on their way back and now they've permanently lost all connection to us." Tsunade said, pacing back and forth behind her desk.
"But how could this happen, Grandma? I thought they were near the Konoha boarders?" Naruto asked.
"The last message we got from them was Shikamaru saying that they got trapped on a very elaborate genjutsu. No more, no less, because the signal got cut." Tsunade explained.
"Where was the last signal located?" Sasuke asked.
Tsunade spread a map before her and pointed at a location where the signal was before it disappeared.
"I'll go." Sasuke said decisively.
"I'll go with you, Teme!" Naruto added.
"Very well," Tsunade agreed. "Kakashi, you stay with Sakura. Naruto, Sasuke, go and rescue team Shikamaru."
Both ninjas nodded and almost immediately, they disappeared from the sight of those present in the Hokage office.
"It's now up to them to bring Shikamaru's team back." Tsunade said while thinking about the four-man group that created Team Shikamaru. The leader himself, Ino, Choji and the ex-root member, Sai.
The Godaime sighed.
**********
Kakashi was led to one of the rooms of the Hokage residence. He almost forgot that aside from being the office of the Hokage, it was also a mansion which may serve as a transient house when the Kages of the different nations come and visit.
Upon entering the room allotted to him, he immediately removed his hitai-ate and released a breath he didn't know he was holding. He didn't even bother turning the lights on as the glow of the moonlight seeped through his window and calmed him. Then, he heard the soft mumbling and cooing, and he could feel the infant's movements in his arms.
Kakashi looked at the bundle below his chin and saw that Sakura was already awake. Her tiny arms reached up to him and was trying her best to grab his face. He gently rocked her and tapped her behind, consciously following the pieces of advice he told Sasuke but the pink-haired shinobi refused to go back to sleep.
"You're nervous too, aren't you?" Kakashi asked. Softly whispering his words to the infant who was intensely staring at him.
Kakashi traveled his gaze towards the window and realized that it was only a few more hours before the crack of dawn. He suddenly felt cold as a shiver ran along his spine.
'This doesn't feel good. Something's wrong.' He thought.
He tried his best to force himself to stay calm even when he could feel the tendrils of anxiety creeping up to him. But he wasn't managing it quite well. He was so fearful and terrified of the fact that another person extremely important to him was to disappear again, and it hurt him, it hurt him up to the pit of his stomach that once again, he couldn't do anything to prevent death.
His gaze almost faltered until he felt himself bumping onto the nearest table. He almost lost his balance but soft warm hands stilled him. It was Sakura's hands reaching up to him.
He slowly felt himself relax. Loosening the tight grip he had on the infant. It surprised him that Sakura didn't even make a sound despite his obvious distress, and once more, when he stared in her deep sea foam eyes, he calmed down and smiled behind his mask.
"Thank you." He whispered to her.
Sakura mumbled her words, mumbling sounds that weren't even intelligible. But it calmed him that Kakashi held Sakura closer to him more than ever.
Kakashi felt Sakura's tiny hands travel to the rest of his face—unconsciously tracing his features, unconsciously running her warm soft hands over his scar. When he felt her fingers clutch at the ends of his mask, he stilled. Even his breathing stopped as he stared deep in her eyes, lost in the tranquility it offered.
He felt his mask slowly being pulled down and he allowed it, accepted it even. He accepted the fact that he needed to be released, and so he closed his eyes as he let his mask fall down, pooling at the base of his neck—he felt free.
The next thing he felt was Sakura's gentle touch on his lips, soft lingering touches that brought him to kiss Sakura's forehead.
"I won't let you disappear." He whispered to her. "I promise."
**********
Kakashi cracked his eyes open and saw that it was still relatively dark outside. He already had his mask back in place but he didn't know when and how he had fallen asleep, he just suddenly felt himself stretched on his bed with a heavy numbness on his chest. He tried moving, but he felt restrained.
"What the?" He whispered. His vision had a difficult time adjusting to the darkness of the room, so he opted to just feel his way through despite the numbness he was feeling.
He tried moving his head but it felt as though there was something blocking his neck, restraining his movement. So, he shifted his focus to his arms. He found out that he could freely use his left hand, but his right proved otherwise; so he settled for his left to move its way through the dark.
When Kakashi reached his hand to the part of his body which was numb, his touch was met by something that was soft and smooth…and round?
He squeezed it, then he heard a soft moan below him. He squeezed again and felt movement all over the bed. He tried his best to crane his neck and get up but when he was half way through his sitting position, the door to his room suddenly sprung open and the brightness of the light from the hallway filtered its way in.
"Kakashi! We have the cure!" It was Naruto. But when he turned to look at them, they were dead set on their feet with an utterly shocked expression evident on their faces…except for one.
Naruto and Choji looked traumatized.
Shikamaru had his palm on his face.
Ino's mouth was wide open.
Sai's face still showed indifference, but his eyes were wide.
But the look on Sasuke's face screamed 'murder.'
Kakashi was afraid to look down but his inner shinobi forced him to do so. That's when he realized that the reason why his movement was so restrained was because he had Sakura's lithe and supple body draped over him.
Her arms were wrapped around his neck while her slender legs were draped over his torso. And her clothes…
"Oh shit." He muttered under his breath.
Her clothes almost covered none of the important parts. The pieces of cloth which were once baby clothes covered only half of her breasts, showing a great view of her under boobs and her beautiful flat stomach. And her underwear…
He felt blood slowly dripping out of his nose.
"Kakashi…" Sasuke whispered.
And that's when he heard it…heard the god of death calling onto him, and his only response to it was…
"Yo." Adorned with the all too familiar crinkle in his eyes coupled with a little bit of embarrassment.
**********
Tsunade heard the commotion all the way in her office followed by her assistant sighing loudly beside her.
"You've just started a world war, you know that right, Lady Tsunade?" Shizune asked as she watched her master sip her sake.
"Oh, they'll get over it. What's important is I've got the scroll back." The Godaime said giddily. "I've won the bet against Mei! Hahahaha! She's gotta pay for it!" Tsunade boisterously exclaimed.
Shizune shook her head and once again sighed as she allowed her master to laugh her head off to her heart's content, not minding the fact that half of the Hokage's residence might probably be on fire right at that very moment.

As a person who grew up speaking (sadly, broken) Mandarin + only knowing the super basic words in the Chinese written language, I had to rely on listening to Google Translate’s ROBOTIC voice while trying to decode the mess.
My experience in MTL-ing scum villain felt like a huge irony mainly because:
1. I did the whole thing on google translate
2. I can never un-forget (is that even a word?) how Google Translate pronounces SHIZUN SHIZUN and LBH is forever having that voice in my head I’m so sorry
conclusion: i have so much regrets not taking my younger days of learning mandarin seriously (my dad would be smh-ing at me rn, he tried, A+ effort)

About me, him, us
A little thing a did after watching the last episode of Naruto. Things can be a little out of character, but I really liked writing it.
Pairing: SasuSaku
Rating: free for all ages ^^
                                   -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
"Please allow me to do this, Kakashi-sensei."
Sakura thought and reconsidered on this topic for a long time until she was able to make this request to the Hokage. Determination and longing moved her. Love made her make the final decision.
How did it go until she got there, in front of her sensei and said those words? The days were bitter, full of feelings that made her feel terrible: poor friend, terrible daughter, poor student, bad doctor, terrible ninja.
It started on Naruto's wedding day. No, she knew she had started well before that, but she was uncertain whether the start was two years ago or since her thirteen. However, Sakura felt the emptiness at her side and in her life when her friend got married. She was there alone. Sasuke was present in memories. Also wrong. Sasuke was there in his own way, distant, watching, not forgetting and not being forgotten. He had even sent a congratulatory message to Naruto and Hinata. How thoughtful... A sweetness that made Haruno smile. And then suffer from longing. He could be there, could not he? What was keeping Sasuke from meeting others on such a special day?
And with that thought, her resolution was born.
"I wish you both happiness" Sakura told the newlyweds after the exchange of the marriage vows. Naruto grinned, his trademark smile. It pleased Sakura so much that her friend was happy beside someone who he loved and loved him in return. The same was true for Hinata. Sakura knew and recognized much of Hinata's love for Naruto. A love that was kept in the dark, sprouted tenderly for a long time, which took time to be brought to the surface. Wonderfully, for Hinata, not only was she rewarded, her love grew and bore fruit. A marriage, a family, an  eternal happiness.
"Hinata," Sakura called out. "If Naruto makes you cry - no, if he makes you sad for a second, tell me. I will remind him how lovely and precious his wife is". Naruto complained, saying he would not make mistakes. In the end, the three of them laughed. The Uzumaki family would be happy, Sakura knew.
Sakura remembered what she had saved. "Here. A gift to you". She held out the note. Naruto's curious blue eyes instantly recognized the message and the owner of it, reflecting the emotion of his best friend's memory.
"Did you meet him, Sakura-chan?" Naruto questioned as he handed the note to his wife.
"No. Sasuke-kun sent through a hawk" she shrugged, trying to keep her best smile. She and Hinata noticed the slight disappointment when Naruto let out an "ah, I understand". But his next speech surprised by its positivism.
"Got it. He sent the hawk to you, Sakura-chan... I wonder why... ".
Naruto was sensitive, Sakura had to recognize, to cheer her up with the suggestion hidden in his words. Smiles, lively conversations and lots of photos filled the rest of the day. And while Sakura genuinely enjoyed herself, part of her blamed herself for not forgetting that feeling.
"I'm a horrible friend" she told herself, after all, as a special celebration of the beginning of a new family took place, there she was, envying. And it was not just with Naruto and Hinata. It was also with Ino and Sai, Temari and Shikamaru. It was not envy for the party or the wedding to be the subject of the ninja world. It was not the admiration caused by the beauty of the couple or the shame felt by the hands held together and the complacent smiles. It was just... Sasuke was not there. All that she would easily trade only for his – physical – presence.
After going home, while changing to go to sleep, the thought of earlier was once again explored. What was keeping Sasuke from meeting others on such a special day? She did not understand. Two years was not enough? What else was there in the world to see? To understand? Sasuke did not disconnect from the village. She heard about his presence in Konoha during the Toneri incident. Sasuke appeared in the vicinity when she resolved the impasses with Kido and no one would convince her otherwise. He was there. She knew. He became involved with all that torment that was with the explosive people. He sent a message to Naruto. And even after all this, why not come back home? She really could not understand.
She did not understand.
She did not understand.
That was it. In the end, she did not fully understand Sasuke. Lying on her bed, Sakura reflected on the abysm between her and the Uchiha. Pretentious she was when she believed she understood Sasuke's heart. She did not deny that there was a part of him she knew about, but there was a lot to get in touch with. "If he was here, it would help. We could talk" Sakura muttered to herself.
But ... Was his presence really necessary?
Sasuke was spending his days exploring the world. What was so fascinating and mysterious about the outside of Konoha that kept him so amused? Taking him away from home, her, and Naruto?
Maybe, just maybe, she should understand this first.
                                                   .....
What was only a 'maybe', an ethereal possibility, was increasing, taking root and becoming an indestructible decision. However, it involved other things. It involved leaving her hospital and her children. Leave her parents, her friends, the village. Everything. And it weighed heavily. The weight came because every time Sakura decided to leave everything, she remembered Sasuke, how he lost everything once. With Sasuke, she learned the unspeakable value of friends and family. And she wondered, then, how he would feel to know that she had left such treasures aside for a trip that had him as one of the reasons - or the main one.
It was hard to face Ino and her parents in the last few days. It was hard to bring smiles to her lips and happiness to her eyes. They were there, but... Sakura felt so... Dislocated. That was how she started to define herself for days. Things were no longer in their tracks and she just wanted to... Run away. Get out there, breathe. Breathe a new air, find peace.
She managed to get out of the hospital and went to see Tsunade. Talk. Expose herself. Unburden. Advise herself. It was not like she did not trust her mother or Ino. Her feelings, at that moment, were not comfortable to be shared. Just as she was to Tsunade decided to become the sannin’s student and a doctor, it just seemed right to go to the old Hokage to advise about leaving everything.
Tsunade listened to each word carefully. Shizune too. "Just to see, to feel, to understand" was the justification that Sakura used and that showed all the restlessness in her heart. Shizune highlighted a phrase spoken in the monologue pronounced by Sakura. "How can I offer comfort when I know nothing?" Tsunade nodded and realized what her student was feeling. Sakura just wanted to be at the same level as Sasuke, not physical, but emotional. That was how couples acted - even though the two were not officially one.
"Once you came determined to become my student. Today, I see the same resolution in your eyes. The difference is that before you came because of Naruto and Sasuke. Today you came for you and Sasuke. Go. You are an adult and know how to protect yourself. Do not let him escape".
Sakura thanked her immensely for the words and the support for that madness. Her next path was to the Hokage room. Yes, to the Hokage and not to her parents. She would only tell about her decision if she was allowed to leave. She would not be so stupid to suddenly disappear. She would not go if Kakashi would not allowed her to. She was a ninja and her medical services were important.
Kakashi was surprised by the visit, but he did not dislike it. Sakura was a good sight for his tired eyes of paperwork. The Hokage questioned the reason for his student's presence, internally wondering what problem had arisen.
Sakura calmly explained her decision and her motives that led to such. Bowing, she asked. "Please allow me do this, Kakashi-sensei." The silence of her teacher made Sakura look up again. No answer was bad or good?
"I already have one of you venturing out there. And now you want to do the same? "The white-haired man asked with a false irritation.
"Sasuke-kun is not here, Sai is always on mission and Naruto now has his family with Hinata. Are you afraid of feeling lonely if I leave?" The rejoinder came with amused laughter.
"What if I do not allow it, Sakura? Are you going to run away like Sasuke did?" he wanted to know how willing she was.
"Will you declare me nukenin and put my photo in the Bingo Book if I do?" she still kept the amused tone.
"I will lose many Anbu in the attempt to capture you. And Naruto would come after you this time. I can’t make Hinata be abandoned when she's newly married. "
Sakura laughed at the Hokage's comment. However, when the laughter subsided and Kakashi saw the green eyes, he could only agree to that request. He did not remember her asking him anything all those years. She was always a gentle, independent girl who wanted what she wanted. He would do this for her. And for Sasuke, too.
"Can you make my trip look like a mission? Sorry to ask for this too, Kakashi-sensei, but I do not want people speculating. Sasuke has been kept so hidden in the shadows, I do not want his name involved as a reason for my escape and in rumors spreading out there". Sakura even suggested an official way, which could be said that she was doing research, especially on remedies and alternative healing techniques. Kakashi agreed, on one condition: that she really did this research. New methods for Konoha could arise, which could save more lives in case of need. Sakura nodded and the search sounded good to her curious medical side. A new chance to save someone pleased her, making her feel her importance as a doctor.
Sakura decided she would leave in two days, leaving early in the morning, before the village woke up. Kakashi gave her time off for the rest of that day and the next, and Sakura would take good leave of the nearest ones. "Can we have tea tomorrow, sensei?" the young doctor thanked him once more when the Hokage promised to arrange ten minutes for her.
                                                      .....
The path to her house was filled with reflections. How could she tell her parents that she was leaving the village on a purposeless journey? "I'm a horrible daughter," she told herself. Opening the door to the house has never been so difficult. The hallway never seemed so empty. Hearing her mother's voice calling made her heart ache.
"Dad's going to be late?" The rosy girl was uncertain about talking to each other individually or at the same time. She decided to wait for her father to return after hearing that he had gone to the market only to buy an ingredient for dinner.
Waiting in the kitchen, watching her mother's back, Sakura felt like a little girl again. She offered help, however, perhaps predicting that something was different, Mebuki denied the offer and left her daughter resting. Sakura studied closely every detail of her house that was visible to her from where she sat. She would change the comfort of home, the embrace of her parents, by the unknown. She hoped that her trip would worth the exchange and that she could find the answers she was looking for.
Kizashi returned and was surprised by the daughter's presence at that hour. "Kakashi-sensei gave me time off." The parents were surprised that Hokage had released her from work. Not that Kakashi interfered in the hospital and clinic she set up, but him letting her out of work was a way to show that no work was to be done by her. And there was always a reason for that.
"I need to talk to you. Can you sit down, please? Mom, I'll help with dinner and the dishes later". The parents sat down and it was visible that they expected nothing good information. Once again, Sakura explained how she felt and how she came to the decision to leave.
"I could lie to you two, saying the same that will be informed officially. But I can’t. You are my parents. I'm going on a personal trip. I need to understand where his heart is". It was not necessary to explain to whom the "his" was referring. Mebuki and Kizashi knew, as any father and mother would know. This was the first time Sakura could remember seeing her father talk seriously about something without the jokes.
"I'm sorry for being such a bad daughter. I do not deserve parents like you" she apologized. Mebuki, touching her hand, insisted that they had never thought or would thought that of her. Sakura could not thank them in a lifetime for the understanding she was shown. "You've spread your wings for a long time ago, Sakura. You have the strength and ability to fly away from the nest. And who knows to build your own" Mebuki said and forever would be engraved in the memory of Sakura the greatness that a mother has.
"Thank you so much. I love you". Sakura shared the last dinner with her parents before leaving them.
                                                         .....
Ino listened sadly, but not shocked, at the novelty. The blonde just wanted to make sure it was all her friend's conscious will. Sakura did not need to hurt herself anymore. The years had already been too cruel to her with Sasuke's distance.
The surprise came with the date of departure.
"Tomorrow ?!" The blue eyes jumped.
"Yes. Do not worry, my reports are ready. Present them at the next meeting. And we've been talking about people who excel at work with us, have not we? Choose one to be your assistant". The practical way that Sakura was treating that farewell bothered Ino so much that she blew out what was pounding in her mind.
"Why does it have to be you who strive? You're the one who's done it all for both of you".
"I know how it sounds, but I need to. It's about me, him, us. It's to put everything together" Sakura smiled.
"And if it don’t? You probably will not even meet him, Sakura" it was a sincere concern of a dear friend.
"Still, I need. Like I said, it's something that has been bothering me and I need to solve it, get rid of it from my heart. "
"You're not even going to say goodbye to Sai," the sweet girlfriend appeared.
"Can you tell him when he comes back? I know he'd like to hear from me, but I will not be here anymore. And you can comfort him. "
"Sorry, Sakura. My happiness hurts you. "
"No. I have to apologize for your happiness to bother me. I'm the wicked one in this story. Please enjoy your happiness".
Ino started the hug. She was moved by the invitation that was made to her.
"Will you have dinner with me today, Ino?"
"But what about your parents?"
"They set me free and forced me to say goodbye to my friends," she smiled, those beautiful green eyes shining and providing a beautiful sight for a memorable moment.
                                                       .....
Hinata was the one who opened the door. Sakura brought a gift for her first visit to the Uzumaki residence. Naruto was in the shower, so the two women took the opportunity to chat. Seeing Hinata sharing the new experiences so smiling filled Sakura with good feelings.
After hearing from Naruto the memories he created with his wife, Sakura touched on the subject that had brought her there. Hinata chose to leave them alone, but Sakura insisted on her presence.
Naruto accepted better than she expected. Although it was apparent how much he wanted her and Sasuke's life to be different, he gave his support and shared beautiful words with her. "Since when did you become so wise?" she asked, her eyes watering. Hinata did not get too involved, did not feel right for her, but she pondered the same as Ino.
Just as she wished to Ino and Sai, she shared her most sincere wishes. "Be happy and enjoy each other's presence”.
                                                         .....
There were few times that he exchanged news and reports with Sasuke, and in one of them Kakashi purposely wrote a sentence at the end of the message. "If you know about Sakura, share it with me." The Hokage knew Sasuke would have his way of understanding what that meant. No, Sakura was not incommunicado. Sensible, periodically she reported her advancement in the research, her whereabouts, and her state of health. Kakashi just felt it was fairer for Sasuke to know that Sakura was currently wandering around, just like him.
                                                         .....
Months passed and with them her interior changed. Sakura felt different. Looking at the sky, feeling the sun, listening to the animals and the wind brought different feelings from before. People came to bring her more stories and teachings. The change in her heart was one of the answers she sought, but the most important one was not yet answered. No matter how she came across the world's beauties and sorrows every day, her heart always cried for her house, for the village, for her loved ones that stayed behind. There was not a single day she did not think once, "Oh, how I wanted to be home". She often wondered how her parents, Ino and the children, Naruto and Hinata were or like how Konoha should be different from when she left.
It was funny that she had no hope of bumping into Sasuke. She was having fun doing her research and becoming interested in the smallest differences between cities and their unique cultures. She admitted that she divided herself between homesickness, her old routine, and the amusement the new one provided. It was fun and profitable to travel. No wonder Jiraiya spent so much time from place to place to write his books. But what about Sasuke? Was it this exciting feeling that kept him away? Was the village important at some point to protect it, but boring to live? Was it just walking aimlessly that Sasuke felt his sins being redeemed? Or did Konoha constantly remind him of them and so he decided not to make a fixed dwelling?
                                                         .....
Eating, Sakura noticed the trio of men whispering on one of the tables in front of her, in a corner of the restaurant. It was not a good sign. Never was, no matter what. She questioned whether it was about being recognized as a Konoha’s kunoichi or being marked as a possible target for theft. Not that it mattered, she would easily defeat them if they sought confusion in the future, but she did not want to draw attention.
A black figure stood between her and the trio. Had time stopped? The world? Where had the sound of the lively conversations of the passers-by and the others who dined gone?
Tears. She could feel them falling, but she did not dare even blink or he could disappear.
"You're going to salt your food like that".
It has never been so important to hear his voice. She never felt so happy to hear him speak.
"It's just ... It's the best food I've ever tasted. I'll never forget it" she managed to say through the tears.
Sakura laughed as Sasuke let out a small sound in response to her speech. Wiping her tears, she asked if he wanted dinner. She showed off her free dinner coupons. There was one more for him.
"Changing your services for food stamps?" He seemed confused and intrigued.
"Sometimes. It was just a treat, a gift" she replied, surprised that he had accepted the offer. After he had made the request to the waitress, she resumed the dialogue. "How did you find me?".
"It was easy with the whole town saying about a skilled and gentle doctor with pink hair and beautiful green eyes".
She did not know what frightened her the most: the words or the way they were uttered, as if they were something trivial, as if he said those words every day.
"What is it, Sakura?" Sasuke fretted with his teammate staring at him for so long.
"Just looking".
"Why?".
"Making sure it's really you. You know, they've tried to impersonate you before". She brought the subject Kido, trying to get him to confirm his presence that day.
"And how do you know I am me?"
"The intensity of your gaze, your voice. I know yours characteristics, both striking and simplistic. I recognize all of them".
The onyx eyes watching her intently made her heart race. How could he be so handsome?
They divided the table and dined in silence. Sasuke asked for something that was easy to eat with only one hand. He must have been accustomed to this now, after traveling for so long alone. Every now and then she looked at him, and every time she noticed something different. He looked healthy and no injuries were visible. It seemed like a dream to be like this with him. When the trio from before had risen, she watched the way of the men to the exit.
"Is there a problem?" Sasuke noticed her quick watch.
"Not anymore, now that you're here." Sasuke did not respond and continued to eat. Sakura blushed intensely after a few seconds, after her brain processed her words. She seemed to have flirted with him. And it was not her intention, it was only that with his oppressive presence, that men lost the potential interest in her - whatever it was.
"Are you staying in town?" The Uchiha questioned, taking a sip of water.
"I'm leaving today. And you?".
"Just passing through. I was in the neighborhood when I heard about you. "
"How did you know it was about me?"
"I do not know another doctor with pink hair and green eyes."
It was good to hear that, Sakura thought. If in all those days and days and traveling he never found another like her, it was something to be congratulated.
"Did you take a detour for me?" The question left without her thinking too much. It upset Sakura who was sounding so intimate when she knew the walls Sasuke had imposed.
"Kakashi told me to let him know if I heard about you".
Straight and impersonal as always. Not that it bothered her. She thought a little about the reasons the Hokage made that request. Well, she would thanks him for the help when she return, after all, she was able to meet with Sasuke after so long thanks to Kakashi.
"It's been a while since you've been out of Konoha. Is your research so extensive? "The Uchiha questioned after finishing his dinner, while Sakura had already finished and was waiting for him. She did not expect him to know about the research, but she was not surprised that he knew what was happening in the village and the people related to it. He certainly had his means of finding out.
"I can extend it as much as I want."
"Has the Hokage chosen you to lead it?"
"I volunteered." Tell him or not? To tell him that the trip she made was motivated by her feelings for him or keeping the research as the starting point?
As they left the restaurant and under the feminine looks admired by his physical appearance - which she noticed and he ignored - they continued the conversation, not before Sakura herself suggested that they move away from the city and follow a path through a forest.
"Why did you volunteer? Do not you have important things to do in Konoha?" He was referring to the care of the children who suffered from the war.
Sakura lost the words. How could she explain her frustration and her sadness at Sasuke's absence to him so that her decision to travel was understandable? How to explain to him that yes, she had important things and people in Konoha, but to leave them was an absurd necessity that she had to realize? That he became her priority again? Or rather, he has always been at different intensities?
If in doubt, switch to the next topic.
"I remembered! Naruto and Hinata were delighted with your note. I venture to say that for Naruto it was probably one of the best wedding gifts he could get. "
Sasuke did not respond. Again, the normal for him. The distance, the do not get too involved. Sasuke stopped the instant he felt the movement in his cloak. He turned around so he could look at Sakura from the front, since she had been a few steps behind. And even though she knew he was looking at her, Sakura preferred to face the ground.
"Are you hurt?" An important question for her. His well-being was one of her priorities.
"No".
"Not even a scratch? Or a broken bone, an insignificant cut? Something I can do for you?" Her wavering voice brought out a softer voice in him.
"No".
"That's good" and the tears fell once more.
Sakura had so much to say and did not feel entitled to vent. The last hour had been so special and so full of meaning and yet she did not feel she could reach him. But he was there, wasn’t he? Within reach of her hand, within reach of her eyes. It was so many days without him. And as someone who seemed to have left the day before, Sasuke reappeared and it did not matter if it was a sudden, temporary lap, but it mattered that they were finally side by side, face to face.
"I missed you," she confessed. "A lot," she added. "And the research? A side effect of when I asked Kakashi-sensei for permission to travel. And why travel? Because I wanted to understand you". Sakura let go of Sasuke's cloak covering her face with both hands. Talking about the pain she felt was even more painful. A little breathless, feeling lightly desperate, ashamed, disoriented, and helpless, Sakura bowed to herself, hugging her legs. She kept talking, unsure if Sasuke would hear clearly and understand what she was saying.
He listened. He understood.
"I wanted to see what you have seen during your journey, to feel what you have felt, to perhaps understand your heart. Because, no matter how hard I try, I can’t see a reason that keeps you away from home. We are there. Me, Naruto, Kakashi-sensei. We are waiting for you and waiting and waiting and you come close but never returns. So I wanted to understand what's so fascinating in the world out here to not let you go back. And I really, truly, truly want to understand you so that I can comfort you when you need me. And to become a person who can be by your side I left everything behind, even though they are precious people and even knowing that you can hate me for it, because I left what you value and lost once. But I was there alone. You were here alone. So... If it's to be alone, can’t it be the two of us alone, but together?".
When his hand touched the top of her head, Sakura came to understand that there was a lot to talk about her, him, them.

I intend to make a continuation. When will I post? Do not know.
