hi so this is a bit of a rant because I had a lot on my mind and needed to get it out, don't mind me, I might have gone little mad in this. warning: probably an unpopular opinion
ok now that you're here.
why are the logical behind pre-tlo jealous!percy fics so despicable? like seriously. this is a sentiment ive seen from lot of percabeth fans, and I hate it so much.
so a lot of posts I've seen about this are like "why did percy have to have love interests ? annabeth needs a side man too to make it equal" ok first of all, why is there some weighing scale in all of this? it's not a court situation where we need to judge which side committed more crimes.
having a 'side man' for annabeth completely disrespects the feelings she was going through in the period of botl-tlo. I think most people forget that rachel wasn't her only problem during that time. luke, her older brother figure from 7 years old had been possessed by the soul of kronos. OF COURSE she would be emotionally unavailable due to her grief. at the end of botl, percy describes that SHE never came and talked to him either about the kiss or whatever. it was a mutual silent treatment. percy couldnt have confessed to annabeth even if he tried, because it was obviously a bad time for her duh. they rlly expect percy to be like "annabeth😍 I know you're going through major grief right now ❤️ but pls kiss me" the same way annabeth found it hard to confess to percy because of rachel and whatever.
people think it's really funny to write fics about annabeth flirting with someone like connor during times like when percy got exploded by the volcano. "percy was doing things with Calypso too--" HE WAS HEALING. He had to stay there for some time to heal after getting EXPLODED. he was also tempted with paradise. stuff like that isn't a decision to make in a second. having annabeth have fun with other boys with connor or smthn while she thinks percy is dead is such a disrespect to her love for percy, I wonder how people like that are percabeth fans at all. same goes for fics where annabeth does it ON PURPOSE to make percy mad.
problem with these type of fics is that they're so PETTY. "If i was annabeth I would have made percy beg on his knees" "if I was annabeth I would murder him--" BUT YOURE NOT ANNABETH. annabeth chase LOVED percy jackson and would never do something on purpose to hurt percy or annoy him. she's not vicious like you.
also percy wasn't falling all over rachel and calypso. he treated them as he would treat any other best friend and kept his distance romantically, even though it was clear he might have had a crush. making annabeth purposefully flirt with other guys or accept other guys advances doesn't equal the weighing scale, it makes it even more unequal.
look, I'm not saying annabeth can't have any love interest other than percy. she CAN find other men attractive. she CAN have interest in other men. you can write that all you want. I'm just saying it was never something so necessary and the logic behind it is so petty. and her weaponising it because of her jealousy towards rachel is just so not something she would ever do.
also, just a short note before this ends: i actually like some jealous!percy fics. some are good. it's just some people get really worked up about the fact that annabeth NEEDS a love interest to get back at percy. that's who I'm mad about. if you've written a jealous!percy fic, cool!

🔥James Roberts?
Fandom should disengage from the idea of authorial intent at least 75% more when analysing the comics he wrote, and the tendency to treat MTMTE specifically as 'functionally fanfic' (when fanfic is- correctly!- subject to a fundamentally different critical approach by readers than non-hobbyist artistic work, one which does not map onto non-fanwork contexts well) is a real problem there. It hampers discussion endlessly IMO. You'll try and talk about the text as-is and people will 'correct' you with tweets or whatever. And so on. You get it from people who like his work and people who dislike it; almost every discussion of the comic seemingly eventually winds up at the dreaded 'but we know what the authorial intent was' moment if it goes on long enough, and I simply do not think that lends to taking the comic seriously as a standalone work that should be discussed in itself. I do not want to talk about the writer's headcanons. I want to talk about the comic.
And to be clear, I don't think the material existing is the problem here. I own a ton of extra-textual stuff relating to MTMTE and think it being near-uniquely documented in this way as a serialised comic is extremely interesting, which is why I've spent so much damn time and sometimes money (with the help of many other kind people) trying to preserve and document as much of that stuff as I can so it doesn't disappear into the ether. I just wish it could all be more widely treated as just that- extra-textual. Context, but not the actual comic itself. It can come after.
So my unpopular opinion is that sometimes, the fandom should pretend the author doesn't have twitter, and care less. Haha. Do a little reader reception theory and pretend he never told us anything, it's good for the creative muscles!

I really hate when writers take sweet, timid, shy characters ( usually men ) and make them into these mega dominant degrading characters as soon as things get sexual. it's ok for dominant people to be gentle actually !

@ the person who said Machete wouldn't have a cutie mark, I definitely see where you're coming from, but I disagree! Machete, against all the odds of his birth and existence, survived and excelled. His determination to continue would have earned him his mark.
In g4, at least, they're more than just a representation of a task you're good at. It's a reminder of who you are as a person, of a truth you hold.
I think Machete might have a fang or claw, a representation of the phrases 'with gritted teeth' or 'clawing your way up' or maybe a hoof reaching toward the sun
I also think a mark like that would seem strange and off-putting, and may have been a source of strife for him while in school. In MLP, it's not terribly uncommon for ponies with no cutie mark or a cutie mark they're ashamed of to cover it up with clothing, in the way canon Machete wears his outfit.
Idk just my two cents

💖: What is your biggest unpopular opinion about the series?
I see Paper Luigi as a completely different character from regular Luigi.
There is a lot of crossover in traits, and they are both highly lovable characters, but I see "Paper Luigi" as more of an AU version of Luigi who doesn't have his famed trait of shyness and actively craves adventure, which... kinda makes him a really sad character given the fact that he's the one stuck at home more than the other Luigis.
Don't even get me started on his status as an Apocalypse Maiden.
We need a "Paper Luigi's Mansion" game so he can finally have his time in the spotlight.

Okay.
So this might be an unpopular opinion (or maybe not), but as a bi woman, I would be fucking PISSED if Buck and Eddie ended up kissing or hooking up during the bachelor party.

Bro I hate fundamentalists and culturally-fundie parents they'll say shit like "spare the rod spoil the child am I right haha yea my parents used to have to beat my ass with a switch almost everyday but I sure did learn my lesson" but like??? no you didn't??? you were hit multiple times for something you very obviously did not, in fact, learn
Like studies about how harmful even lightly spanking children is aside, you're literally contradicting yourself?? Some even admitted they got worse as they got older cause they wanted to see how far they could push their parents before they got punished
And studies not aside, you're gonna get child raising advice from the same book that tells you to stone your wife if her hymen doesn't break on your wedding night instead of the decades of research we have now?? Just say you're a bad parent and move on my guy. Skill issue

unpopular opinion: there is no point in the show in which jeid would have made sense. jj never seemed interested in him, and his feelings always felt misconstrued and misplaced. they never had that kinda chemistry.

fools: the tuvix situation is like the star trek version of the trolley problem! you're either letting two dear friends die to allow this new, third person to live, or you murder the new person to get your friends back
me: just create a transporter duplicate of the combined guy and split up one of them
fools: ...
me: sometimes people are so excited to philosophize they forget that star trek problems get to be solved by star trek science

Pleeeeaaaaase say it!!!
Okay, anon, but I'm blaming you when I get run out of the fandom. 😂
(I'm making it small, so I can pretend I didn't really say it.)
So, I think Buck and Tommy are at the start of a meaningful relationship, but at this point, it is super early in that relationship. Like, they have only been on one and a half dates and have a promise to attend the wedding together. And I do think that means something big, especially with Buck saying he thinks he might be ready for something with Tommy.
But also, I feel like the fandom has really built up their headcanons around the Buck/Tommy relationship to the point that they're being treated like they're in a super serious long-term relationship already, and just. they're not? They might be moving there, there's definitely potential, but they're not there yet based on what we've seen in canon, and the way the relationship is being talked about around 7x06 and the remainder of the season right now is. a little odd to me? Like, I don't think they're just casual, but I also don't think they're at the stage where ending the relationship would mean some huge drama.

i think the best way i can articulate why this episode is my favorite of the whole show so far is that it was so emotionally gratifying i don't even care about the pacing issues

🔥 for lok??
Bloodbending is not inherently bad and should not have been made illegal.
I am CONVINCED that spirit healing manipulates the blood in some way and that healing and bloodbending are two sides of the same coin. Imagine someone is injured so badly that they are rapidly losing blood. A bloodbender could manipulate the blood in the person's body to prevent death from blood loss. Someone is having a heart attack; a bloodbender could keep blood circulating and prevent brain death.
Amon's use of it to sever/block the chi connections that use bending, also not inherently bad. Aang took people's bending with energybending, but that's somehow okay because he's the Avatar? If others could have learned Amon's technique, could it not have purpose the same way Aang took Ozai's bending? And if others could learn the technique, perhaps bloodbending could have been used to undo Amon's work, instead of leaving it up to Korra!
Even in it's traditional use, how is it worse than any other bending, which can kill and maim just as badly? I guess you could argue you are taking away a person's autonomy. But isn't trapping them in ice or rock also taking away their autonomy? If you need to defend yourself or your loved ones, how is bending the blood in your attacker's body to throw them against a wall any worse than burning them with firebending?
Bloodbending is neutral just like all other bending and can be used for good or evil. Making it illegal prevents people from learning it and the potential to use it in self defense or in other nonviolent uses.

i'm so sorry to see that you're being vagueposted about for your sylki takes. it may be true that how you see sylki is a bit different than a certain section of the fandom, but that doesn't at ALL mean that you shouldn't be allowed to have your own takes! fwiw, i followed you bc i actually agree with and really enjoy ur perspective on sylki. i was getting frustrated with how many people seem to view this ship in a super heteronormative way and want sylvie to basically become a housewife, and i was so glad to find a blog that felt the same way. this fandom has become tiring tbh with how many people are now freaking out that sylvie hasn't immediately started having lokis babies in s2, and i really wish that people would at least leave room for others to have their own opinions!
this! that section of sylki shippers do not leave any room for you to have your opinions! they act like a fanon police controlling what you say in your posts on your blog!
and god forbid that what you say opposes their own hcs and takes, if you commit this unforgivable sin of having a take that is different from theirs, you better be ready for some good old online group harassment! they will make you feel like you are not welcome in this fandom, they will make sure that you are hurt, they will alienate you and force you out!
but no, you are the bad guy for jokingly calling a fandom in general "vanilla" and saying (after several disclaimers that it's your personal opinion) that when it comes to canon, you don't think that sylvie should be all about being loki's housewife.
at this point i honestly hate this fandom. there are some decent sylkis out there and i love the ship itself, but a big portion of the fandom has simply sucked all the joy for the series out of me. i wonder if they realize what the consequences of their behavior could be? back when i said (in my blog) that i don't think sylvie having babies is a compelling completion of her story in canon, and this bunch came to my blog to harass me for my takes, i was in a very *very* bad place already, and the space that was supposed to be my escape pretty much turned on me and added up to an already depressing state i was in.
and bfr anyone says that it's just a fandom wank, let me tell you that these people know how to be really cruel, whether they realize it or not, their behavior is simply cruel. they don't just argue in favor of their opinion, they shit on you personally, get aggressive towards you personally, make you feel like you "can't sit with them", ect. it gets really creepy and ugly.
and the thing is, i never addressed anyone specific in my posts, i never said *this* person and *that* person have shitty hcs/takes, i never even vaguely hinted at a distaste towards the hcs/takes of someone specific, but they accuse me of pointing fingers. when i said that i didn't think canon sylvie having babies would work, i never said anything about sylki babies in fanfiction, yet people accused me of pointing fingers at the fic writers. and they would come to my blog, harass me in the replies and asks, and talk about how despicable i am in their own blogs, and it went on and on for a while.
thanks for your nice words, anon, they are uplifting. and to those who can't stand me so much, don't worry, i'm going to leave this fandom once the series is finished. i hope you are satisfied that being a shitty, gatekeeping, narrow-minded, egocentric person worked for you! but don't ever feel entitled to complain about how lokius shippers treat you.
