So, how rare ARE Ford's extra fingers, anyway?
I'm not gonna lie, at first I was skeptical of Ford's claims that the Weirdness Magnetism had an effect on him. Like, yeah, the whole having six fingers thing isn't exactly common, but it's a naturally-occurring event. Stan describes it as a birth defect, and there doesn't seem to be a noticeably great number of people with those in Gravity Falls. It wouldn't be all that farfetched for Ford to think he was just Built Different, for like, at least 7 reasons, but then you start actually thinking about it.
Polydactyly isn't exactly common. Approximately 1 in 1,000 babies are born with some form of polydactyly. While it's true that postaxial polydactyly (extra digit is past the pinkie) is the most common form, which is shown to be the kind Ford has in the x-ray at the beginning of AToTS, there are several other extreme circumstances.
Tumblr media
Extra digits in polydactyly aren't usually found on all limbs. It can occur on hands and feet (and Alex has confirmed that Ford does, indeed, have six toes on both feet) but rarely does it occur on both feet, or both hands, much less both hands and both feet. And even when it does occur more than once on one person, the extra digits aren't usually fully-formed. Oftentimes they don't even have bones. When they do have bones, they're usually much smaller, or barely opposable (if they have joints at all). When they're big enough to be maneuverable, they usually interfere with the structure of the hands/feet in negative ways. All this means that an extra finger or toe which doesn't direly require a surgery to remove the extra digit within the first year or two of life is incredibly uncommon.
And let's remember: that's just for one extra digit. Ford has four.
For Ford to have fully functional polydactyly on both hands and both feet, to the point where it's basically impossible to tell which one is finger x without x-rays... the odds of that are astronomically unlikely. Never-before-recorded, one in a kazillion, borderline medically unfathomable sort of rare.
I think I do believe the Weirdness Magnetism could've affected Ford, actually.

"Goodbye and Thank You" Mousebraingirl AU Oneshot
Dr. Jenkins slowed his pace as he hesitated in front of the door. He didn't know what to expect when he walked in but he was pretty sure he was going to get fired by Steven or asked to leave the lab. After what happened with the gas explosion and Jenkins new steps into villainy, he didn't blame Steven for going with the logical choice. It would be weird and awkward for a villain to work with a hero in the same living space after their history together with Jenkins aiding Steven in hero support when the scientist moonlighted as Wordman. This didn't mean that Jenkins would not stop helping Steven outside of hero work or as what his mentor calls it, being a 'mother hen' to him and Mouse. A mantle James Jenkins took with pride. He at least hoped that Steven would give him a chance to plead his case before the scientist made any decision. Taking a deep breath, James opened the door into the lab where he and Steven worked on hero stuff or their general workload. He soon spotted Steven Boxleitner near a desk, putting stuff in a portable cardboard box. 'Yep, I'm fired.' Jenkins thought with a gulp. Upon sensing another presence in the room, Steven turned around and saw Dr. Jenkins standing there a bit apprehensively. "Ah Jenkins. There you are." Steven said in a calm tone, no signs of anger or betrayal coming from the scientist. Though relaxed a bit, Dr. Jenkins could not help but frown as he noticed the lack of feeling in Steven's voice and some type of...dullness in his brown eyes. Still, James decided to take this opportunity to get his mentor to hear him out. "Look Professor Boxleitner. I know what happened a few days ago was chaotic and I know you are most likely upset with me being a villain now, but I swear I have no intentions to act like a villain all the time and I still need a legal job to pay the bills so please don't fire me." Steven just stared stoically at Jenkins' rambling and pleading before he spoke. "Jenkins I'm not going to fire you." Steven said in an emotionless voice. Dr. Jenkins blinked in surprise and shock at the statement. "You..You're not." He stuttered out. Steven just shook his head apathetically. Jenkins smiled with relief. "Phew. Thank goodness. You know I really appreciate that. Definitely a load off of my mind. Thank you." He then frowned with confusion. "But still, what's with the box of stuff your packing?" James asked. Steven briefly looked at the box before responding. "I'm using it to pack up my things. I'm quitting." He responded so casually with a quick shrug.
Dr. James Jenkins did a mental double take. He could not believe what he was hearing. He was stunned by not only the words, but by the indifferent tone. "You're quitting?" Dr. Jenkins exclaimed in a questionable voice as he could right now only observe Steven finishing with his task of packing up his stuff. "Yes well I am going to only to continue teaching or tutoring at the university. I am quitting my profession as a scientific researcher." Steven explained, uncaring to his former assistant's shocked reaction. Jenkins just stared in disbelief, trying to find a response to this. "Hold on I don't understand something here. Just why the heck are you quitting being a scientist? Your one of the most brilliant people I know. You can't just suddenly stop doing something you enjoy." At that last statement, Dr. Jenkins grabbed Steven by the shoulder just as the man finished up packing. Steven quickly whipped his head around to face the young scientist. Jenkins could only stare as he saw a spark of emotion come back to Steven's eyes. Only it was fueld with grief, anger, regret, and pain...so much pain.
"Don't you get it Jenkins!" Steven yelled at the man, "I have only brought pain and misery and sorrow by doing what I love and what I am good at! I have done more harm than good in this line of work. All of my actions and mistakes have permanently damaged people I know, people I care about, people I LOVE! Look what has happened because of my work as a scientist. I ended up hurting my daughter's oldest friend, I ended up hurting you, I ended up hurting Bec." Steven paused as he once again almost spoke his daughter's old name. He furiously wiped away the tears streaming down his face and then looked back towards James who was shocked with silence. Steven continued to speak before his old assistant could try to interrupt, the spark in his eyes beginning to dim. "I am a hazard to everyone in this field. I can't work here anymore without ruining more lives. So go ahead and turn this lab into your villain lair I don't care. The last thing I am going to work on is finding a way to free my child from Squeaky. Then no more inventing or scientific experiments for me. I am done." Steven then turned away from the scientist as he headed towards the door to leave. His hand reached for the doorknob, but Steven then paused as he turned back to Jenkins who was at a loss now for what to even say here. "I do want to thank you Jenkins, for trying to help. Goodbye and good luck." Steven said with a pained smile as Jenkins watched the last bit of the scientist's spark die in his eyes.
"Professor Boxleitner!" Dr. James Jenkins shouted, trying to get the scientist to stop and at least talk about this, but it was futile. Professor Steven Boxleitner walked into the lab for a final time that day, and a shell of his former self was all that left with nothing but a box of heartache and painful reminders and memories.

The whole skepticism activity yesterday has me thinking about how witchcraft is seen in general...
I would like to make it clear that I believe skepticism is IMPORTANT in any practice. Very, very important. However, I feel like people over the past few years have been getting very dogpile-y about criticizing things that exist in many worldwide cultures and religions as being inherently "stupid" or "degenerate" to believe in, such as believing in spirits, reincarnation, and so on.
It makes me kind of uncomfortable as someone who was raised in a chasidic Jewish community, for instance (I have not been religiously Jewish in many years but it is still my blood for lack of better description) that people find the very concept of prayer and ritual to be embarrassing, because I've often found that sentiment translates beyond just being mean to witches online (still a bad thing) and ends up perpetuating the rhetoric that got many of my great-grandparents/grandparents' relatives killed. My family has dealt many times with people finding their ceremonies to be weird and cultish--but believe me, while there is much to criticize in chasidic judaism, it was never the ritual that made the community toxic. It was the xenophobia, homophobia, and sexism that did it for me, not the belief in souls, praying over candles, creating spiritual tokens, celebrating shabbatot, and reciting blessings for family and friends.
I think many people in the witchcraft community get too wrapped up in not being culturally insensitive that they end up condemning the very same practices they wish to protect, and that upsets me! I personally have no problem with people using Hebrew as a magic language for spells and such, but it is left so underutilized in comparison to say Gaelic or Latin that the only people left using Hebrew for magic purposes, if they are not of Jewish descent, are the appropriators. Thus the representation of my language becomes sidelined for more traditionally "white" languages.
I don't know if any of this makes sense, honestly. I just wish people would be more thoughtful of spiritual practices (still skeptical, but more willing to let harmless beliefs be) instead of approaching spiritual people of any type with the attitude of "I'm smarter than you because I believe all practices that can't be justified scientifically are unequivocally terrible and have no possible value"
I don't have much to add, as you make some very good points, and about things that I'm not really in any position to speak on.

I'm geeking out for that Boötes Void anon's dabbling in fun conspiracy theories. Especially about space!
They're ridiculous but I like to humour them every now and then. Like the idea that the moon was built by aliens because it's kind of an anomally that the moon exists in the way it does. (It's finally something about aliens that isn't the "indigenous people couldn't have built this, they would've needed higher intelligence for that! Therefore, MUST'VE been aliens" BS.)
Current limitations in our depth of higher scientific knowledge are probably the reason we can't fully explain why allegedly:
The moon of a planet the size of ours should be about 40 miles long, but our moon is somehow 2000.
There are shadow structures on the surface that supposedly don't make much sense - that are (according to this theory) monoliths or things created on the moon as sorts of beacons or markers. - I think it's probably just people misinterpreting regular degular old shadows
Seismic testing on the moon shows it takes up approximately 2% of the earth's volume which is waaaaay less than it should. This implies that the moon is hollow and possibly a surveillance base of some kind and that maybe life on earth is like an experiment - the way human scientists would take a species of bugs and create different conditions for them to see what happens, etc and so forth..
Some theorists go farther and suggest that earth is a prison for our species (like what did we do tho?) and every attempt to escape that goes too far is thwarted - that's why space exploration and terra forming on other planets is so difficult to progress (cool idea for a comic/webtoon tho)
The absurdity of the theory gives the idea that there is not enough cause to question what we know about the moon BUT maybe the there are anomalies that are actually weird enough to warrant deeper wonder about what exactly we're missing in the equation.
Probably not aliens 😂 but stuff where professionals are justified in exploring more scientifically-minded alternate theories of how physics/gravity/matter works. In a way scientists aren't super different from conspiracy theorists in that they see patterns and hypothesise about what they mean. So there's probably a lot of overlap when it comes to fields where we can't yet quantifiably prove the existence of certain forces, we can only observe their effects and take a guess on what is most likely the truth until we're able to get more confirming or disprovikg information. It's just that professionals' "guesses" are (hopefully) much more educated. Same with philosophy, and the creation of myths...like it's all the same act done through different lenses, man 🥴 we see things and we're like "lol wut? who did this??? 😂"
Do you have any particularly silly/fascinating theories about space that you like?
Hmm I'd be lying if I said I never entertained the thought of there being complex civilized life on the moon. Riddle me this. The moon is tidally locked, so ever since you were born and your mother and your mother's mother and so on were born, we've all seen the exact same side of the moon. WHAT IF there is a type 2 civilization living on the moon and they've locked it in place bc they don't want us seeing what goes on on the other side 👀 and y'know how many of us see a face in the moon? What if that's them like sending us a trolling face ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I don't know many other cooky space conspiracies but I also like to believe that the ringularity of a spinning black hole is a worm hole

Not exactly the answer I was looking for. Elaborate like what do you think about love for family or friends or a lover.
So, you want me to give you my input on the various kinds of love? Very well then. Let's start simple then: platonic love, the kind of love that includes friendship love, familial love and overall any kind of love related feeling that isn't sexual or romantic in nature. This type of love is beautiful and special because it connects people far beyond the means of reaching a common goal (which distinguishes a simple collegial relationship from an actual friendship). What's interesting about this one though is that within our brains, the chemicals produced don't differ from those related to romantic love, so in other words, we basically "fall in love" with our friends too and that's why we are soo close to them and a broken friendship will hurt as much as an actual break up. It's the type of love that makes you want to protect, support, take care of and make happy the other person without expecting something in return.
And the same goes for familial love: it's a love that pushes you to do everything you can in order to keep the other safe, happy and over all contempt. But if I had to name one kind of love that goes above and beyond any other one in the platonic category and maybe even love in general, I guess the strongest bond out there is the one between a mother and her child. It's the kind of unconditional love that can't be explained nor replicated in any shape or form, and it's also one of the most beautiful types of love out there!
Okay, moving on to romantic love! This one is a bit more 'tricky' because as I mentioned in my other answer to your question, love is a beautiful feeling and it can shape a person, but thing is, it's the kind of blade with two ends: with romantic love you have to be careful to distinguish it from the pathological bad kind of obsession. Because you see, scientifically speaking, love is just another kind of obsessives behavior (yeah, it sounds not so nice, but like it or not, it's what science says), and that's why we feel this weird urge to 'move the world' for the one we love and keep them as ours forever, and that's why it's important to not end up exaggerating that sense of "ownership" or "infatuation" the chemicals make you feel (because otherwise you might risk falling into a toxic spectrum, which is unhealthy for both parties). But all in all, I like to believe, as I said before, that romantic love is a beautiful thing that can change a person for the better. Plus, it's somewhat emotional and endearing to see what lovers can do for each other, even to the point of sacrificing their own life for the other, it truly touches your heart and it's extremely beautiful because it goes far beyond just lust and physical desire, it's a bond that connects two people in soul and spirit. uwu
Well, that's all I have to say on the topic. Hopefully this answer satisfied your wishes better than the previous one.

My OC Descriptions!
Thank you so much for your positive responses, @dasjansel @corvid-moon @teeny-weeny-ducklings @technoxslayer360 @incoherentmoose and @cake-and-roses ! Since you guys asked, I made overall descriptions of my OCs and a bit of a synopsis. Sorry it's so long! I hope you enjoy it and please provide feedback!
This is a story that takes the "chosen ones" and fantasy tropes and turns them on their heads. The main character never accepts his role. The guy doesn't get the girl. There's no prophecy or guide. The populace thinks they're monsters, not heros. Their powers are explained scientifically. They have to help themselves emotionally so they can help others physically. It's just a bunch of young adults with problems getting into shenanigans, figuring out life's lessons, and maybe saving the world.
Tumblr media
Name: Adrian
Age: 18
Height: 5'8"
Gender Identity: Male
Pronouns: He/Him
Sexuality: Bisexual (Feminine leaning)
Race: Human
Ethnicity: German/Portugese
Neurodivergent: Narcissistic Personality Disorder
Active Power: Super strength
Passive Power: Truth (Ability to see through illusions, understands foreign languages, can tell when someone is lying, etc)
Activating Emotion: Courage
Associated Color: Yellow/Gold
Associated Element: Air/Wind
Description: This rich, all-American, high school boy has had a near perfect life growing up until a burglar breaks in his home. Thankfully, he stops the villain… by tackling him through an oak door! First hailed as a hero, his social life then gets thrown into disarray as this new found strength that seems to randomly come and go ends up earning him the reputation of a destructive menace. On top of that, he starts passing out and having "visions." Doctors say he's having seizures, but these visions feel more real than his life ever has, and it's always of the same place, a magic lab where he's the experiment! His visions keep getting worse until one day he fully wakes up in the lab and escapes, but now he can't go back home!
Adrian finds out he's stuck in the world of Mythos, the parallel Earth where all of our fantastical dreams come from, and he's not happy about it! And the locals don't seem happy about him either. Just wanting to get this over with and go home, Adrian faces more ugly reality in this fantasy world than he ever did in his privileged life in our world. With no guides or prophecies and regarded as a monster, Adrian has to figure out how to find others like himself to help him save the world and go back home.
Adrian is the self-proclaimed leader of the group. He's obnoxious, self-centered, and stubborn, and completely uninterested in helping unless it benefits him somehow. You are supposed to dislike him at first. He matures and becomes much more open-minded and accepting through the journey.
Initial Motivation: To get back home
Journey: Breaking out of your bubble is more important than staying in it, others suffer in a way different from you, you cannot speak for others, use privilege to help those that don't have privilege, attraction to anyone who shows femininity or doing female-assigned tasks/behaviors (being kind, showing emotions, being vulnerable) does not make you less of a man, the greatest strength is facing the truth
Tumblr media
Name: Iola
Age: 20
Height: 6'2"
Gender Identity: Female
Pronouns: She/Her
Sexuality: Lesbian
Race: Human
Ethnicity: Afro-Columbian
Neurodivergent: Anxiety
Active Power: Shield
Passive Power: Acceleration/Regeneration (Subconsciously heals others, requires focus if needs boost in power, ie, if someone is bleeding out. Can cause things to grow, but also age. Cannot remove poisons/curses, cannot bring people back to life, conditional)
Activating Emotion: Care
Associated Color: Pink/Orange
Associated Element: Earth/Wood
Description: Iola's life had been pretty quiet since she and her dad started a farm out in the wilderness, until a strange boy pops up who brings a whole lot of unwanted attention. She stumbles upon her own powers as she defends her home, and then sets out to find others with Adrian.
Iola is the mom of the group, both the good parts and the bad. She is kind and caring and helpful and also stressed af and sometimes pokes her nose where she's not welcome. It's suggested at first that she may be the Adrian's love interest, but, surprise! She only likes girls. She seems to have lost someone precious to her, and it's not her mom.
Initial Motivation: Believes in following destiny
Journey: Self-sacrifice is not always necessary, mediation is more important than appeasement, give without expectation of return, worthy of just existing, important to take care of self in order to take care of others, rest is a type of work and just as important as being active
Tumblr media
Name: Emlyn
Age: 21
Height: 6'0"
Gender Identity: Androgynous
Pronouns: He/Him
Sexuality: Pansexual
Race: Human
Ethnicity: Northern Irish
Neurodivergent: Complex PTSD, Depression
Active Power: Chemical Reaction (Interaction of two or more substances that results in different substances. Can only initiate reaction, cannot control the outcome. Usually uses fire as a weapon, but can use others. Can also stop reaction in process, but cannot reverse.)
Passive Power: Psychic (Ability to sense when others are nearby, can receive symbolic messages through dreams, not prophetic)
Activating Emotion: Passion
Associated Color: Deep blood red
Associated Element: Fire
Description: Emlyn finally seems to have found a home at the inn he works at when two strangers pop up with trouble following them. He unleashes his powers to defend them, but his loved ones reject him when his secret is exposed. With nowhere else to go, he tags along with Adrian and Iola, the only people who seem to accept him how he is. However, he harbors a terrible secret that he's hellbent on taking to the grave, and it creates a division between himself and the others.
Emlyn is very quiet and reclusive. He doesn't talk much, and seems to be insistent on covering as much skin as possible at all times. He's not the angry or brooding type, but surprisingly polite and soft spoken. And surprisingly strong. However, he seems like he'll do anything to avoid using his powers, and almost seems scared of them. Adrian bullies him frequently, threatened by the fact that he's attracted to Emlyn. Emlyn doesn't seem to care, but eventually lashes out, showing a very different, vicious side.
Initial Motivation: Redemption
Journey: The past is the past, use mistakes to learn and teach, secrets create unnecessary burden, it's okay to have darkness, do not let negative emotions rule over logical decisions, take both capabilities and lack of into account, sometimes you just can't do what you want even if others can, you are not damned
Tumblr media
Name: Liesel
Age: 82
Height: 5'0"
Gender Identity: Genderfluid
Pronouns: She/Her, He/Him, They/Them

Passive Power: Choice (Can tell what someone has decided before they act on it, very useful in combat; can see what future "paths" can be taken but cannot tell outcomes)
Activating Emotion: Hope
Associated Color: Sky blue
Associated Element: Water
Description: Liesel has had to protect her people for decades, so she's more than a bit reluctant to leave with some humans to go on some adventure. When she realizes that she needs to, she goes with them, but completely mistrusts them.
Where Iola and Emlyn are more passive, Liesel is even more aggressive than Adrian. She challenges everything Adrian knows and really gets him to start looking at things differently. They develop a weird rivalry dynamic and eventually soften up with each other.
Initial Motivation: Protect her people
Journey: Evil does not originate from the same place, no group of people are all the same, there's a difference between honesty and being cruel
Tumblr media
Name: Uri
Age: ??? (They tell a different number every time they're asked)
Height: 5'4"
Gender Identity: Agender
Pronouns: They/Them
Sexuality: Asexual
Race: Dragon
Ethnicity: Nigerian
Neurodivergent: N/A
Active Power: Light Manipulation (Can be used to make self or others invisible, create illusions, blind someone, etc. Does not actually makes things disappear/materialize, just makes it look like it.)
Passive Power: Compulsion (Redirects electrical impulses between neurons. Makes people think certain things, somewhat like intrusive thoughts. The more impulsive someone is, the easier they are to manipulate. Often accidentally shares own thoughts with others. Usually uses for persuasion among foes and to pull pranks among friends. Cannot read minds.)
Activating Emotion: Elation
Associated Color: Emerald green
Associated Element: Metal
Other: Disabled/Born without wings
Description: Uri's just minding their own business, napping on top of their treasure trove when some adventurers break in. Those same adventurers open that weird lock contraption they've been trying to open for the last two centuries. Interesting. Rather than confronting the adventurers, Uri decides to join them in hopes of making sure their treasure doesn't get destroyed, to find some more, and to enjoy some chaos along the way.
Uri is confident, charasmatic, and devilishly handsome. They only care about their treasure, but slowly finds themself caring about the others.
Initial Motivation: To protect their treasure

Activating Emotion: Love (Both romantic and platonic)
Associated Color: White/Purple
Associated Element: Spirit/Aether
Other: Intersex
Description: Oriana has been waiting at the edge of the Ancient Forest for a long time. She doesn't remember why, but she knows she needs to guide five adventurers through the massive forest that covers half the world. For some reason, she's the only one who can survive traversing it.
Oriana is sweet and kind and too naive for her own good, having never been exposed to civilization or other people before. She seems to have a mind of a child, but has the wisdom and understanding of someone who has been alive for a very long time. Emlyn develops a crush on her due to her friendly and accepting nature and eventually confides in her. Their past is far more intertwined than either of them remember, and is the answer to why this is all happening.
Initial Motivation: Because she was asked to
Journey: Evil lives in everyone, purity is non-existent, be kind to those who "don't deserve it" without allowing self to be walked on, different facets of love

Tell me a story about Swollen Potato Man.
For about a century now, Smaulgostal's world has been dominated by herpetologists, who study reptiles and amphibians. Most of them are like herpetologists Jenny, who never gets out of the house except to buy groceries, except that they do not have the kind of dry sense of humor that would make her think, "Oh my God, a metamorphosed snake! It must be one of her many pies!" And hermeticism, Jenny believes, is real. She is on the edge of her bed, which is a pine table with an armature of what looks like tree-trunks lying against it. Around the armature are her bookshelves, which are full of scientific papers about the sorts of snakes that are possible.
Jenny is tired, and typing this on her computer. The internet is complicated, she says, as she gets out her laptop. She is tired because she has been out looking for things to download for like an hour. She is tired because she is about to go home, which is where the Internet takes her, and her attempts to find another way to the Net have failed. She has been doing this for an hour and a half now, which is two and a half years for those of you who don't work in IT. She needs to go to sleep. But she has things to do, things like changing her iphone's password and downloading on her laptop the software for her iphone, which she has never used because no one in her life has ever needed it, because she only uses her iphone to keep track of the homepages of the websites she has never looked at. She gets up, and goes downstairs.
I don't know why I'm bothering to tell you this story. Jenny is tired, and the things she does are boring and the Internet is complicated and she should be sleeping. But she's always sleepy, and it's almost 8, and she can't sleep anymore, not after all of her sleepless nights on this couch in her parents' living room, staring into space. So she just has to get through this day.
As she gets ready to go to bed, however, she gets a notification. It's from Steve, because he was talking to the metamour, and she got concerned because he hadn't been in touch for a long time.
She reads the notification. It says that the metamour just called, and that she wants to talk to her.
Jenny is not in the best shape of her life. She is a lesbian, and has been one for most of her adult life. She used to live in the Bay Area, before she had to leave because of her sexual orientation. She used to be in a relationship with her partner of three years, and now she is not, because of her sexual orientation. She has been depressed her entire life, but she has managed to keep those feelings at bay, by her sexuality. When people come up to her and tell her she is wrong about her sexual orientation, she takes it in stride. She does not discuss her sexuality with most of her family, because she knows that will make them think she is doing something wrong, or at least "weird." This will make it harder to keep her identity under wraps.
It is hard for her to keep her identity under wraps. Her family is not big on the whole LGB thing. There is one uncle, who was a big supporter of gay rights in the 80s, who is now an apathetic flyover country liberal. There is one aunt, who although not overtly homophobic, is very traditional and does not approve of what her kids call her. One of her aunts and one of her uncles are evangelical Christians. One of her aunts is sort of an enabler because she will not disapprove of her niece's sex life, but still disapproves of her occasional interest in pseudoscience and religion. One of her cousins is a Jew who is very pro-Israel. She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons).
She is also a furry, though she has been reluctant to admit it. When she was a kid, she thought it was weird, but she thought it was a weird kid thing, like Star Trek and superheroes. She still gets those flashbacks every now and then. For all she knows, Steve is a furry too, and just doesn't know it. She is uncomfortable with the furries, she doesn't understand what they have to do with her life.
Steve has been coming into her room more and more lately. He is wearing a t-shirt with a picture of a guy with a rainbow-colored quiver and the words "every situation a bow". He is also wearing jeans. Jenny has no idea why he thinks this is a good idea. He is sleeping on her bed, which has a pretty big bed, because she likes to sleep on her big bed.
She is trying to fall asleep, but her eyes keep wandering to the screen of her laptop. She clicks on her Facebook page, and reads her messages.
She has been thinking about her relationship with Steve. She has been thinking a lot about how to explain to her friends the reason why she has stopped talking to him. She thinks she knows what it is like to be in a relationship with someone who knows about the reasons for your absence. She has thought about what it was like to be in a relationship with Steve, before he came out to her. It was like being in love. It was like knowing Steve. He knows things about her that she does not know. She has thought about what she would tell her friends if she were to tell them the truth about her relationship with Steve. She would say that they were a couple, that they are in a relationship, but she does not know if she is telling the truth, and Steve does not know. She would not want to lie to her friends, but she would not want to tell the truth either.
She reads her messages again. She is not sure what to say.
After a few minutes of browsing Facebook, she gets up from her bed, and heads to the kitchen. She takes a large sip of her coffee, and notices that the room is still mostly dark. She heads to the window, and peers outside.
There is a sudden noise, as of someone running very fast along the street. Jenny looks out the window, and sees a man running toward her, a large piece of metal in his hand.
The man is a rabbit.
He is looking at her through one of the front windows of the convenience store. The display window is smashed, and the front door is open. The man is pointing something at her.
Jenny backs up quickly. She drops her pack, and turns to run to the safety of her house. She hides under a car, and tries to call for help.
Outside, the man continues to look at her. She wonders what he is looking at. A phone? A weapon? What could he want with her?
Inside the convenience store, someone she does not know is pounding on the door. The clerk yells something at them, and someone rushes in.
Outside, the rabbit is running back and forth through the front door. The door is ajar.
Outside, the rabbit starts to pant.
Jenny hears a voice in her head, saying things like:
You can't hide from me
You're going to
Die, you fucking rabbit
You're going to die
It yells these words in her head.
The rabbit is panting, and panting like he is on the verge of some kind of physical burst. He has stumbled and fallen on his face, and is looking up at the sky.
A voice speaks in her head. It is sort of reassuring. "Rabbit. You can do it. I know you can. Don't you trust me? Don't you think I know what I'm doing?"
The rabbit panting on the ground
