tag game to better know you
Ty @new-anon for tagging me! What else to do on a cold Monday morning public holiday then fill out a questionnaire about myself 🤔
What book are you currently reading?
The Wright Brothers by David McCullough Definitely has nothing to do with the fact that we can see this book on Ice's shelf next to the photo of him and Mav shaking hands after rescuing the USS Layton...
What’s your favourite movie you saw in theatres this year?
I have only seen the new Spiderman (literally 2 days ago) so I guess that! I think it was pretty good, but tbh I liked the first one more.
What do you usually wear?
Pokemon or bird themed t-shirt paired with shorts or my high school gym trackies if it's cold. I have one green overcoat that I wear pretty much any time I need a jacket, it is very versatile in what weather it can be worn in.
How tall are you?
170cm, that's 5 foot 6 inches to those USAmericans in the audience (had to google that...)
What’s your star sign? Do you share a birthday with a celebrity or a historical event?
I don't know any celebrities off the top of my head that I share a birthday with, and the only historical event I connect immediately with my birthday is a bad one lmao. Though it happened in the 1920s, so mostly only relevant when I was studying history in high school...
Do you go by your name or a nickname?
Serie! Fun fact, I made this name up on the spot randomly when playing Facebook games as an 11 year old and the RPG ones wanted me to input a name. I have been stuck with it ever since.
Did you grow up to become what you wanted to be when you were a child?
My current job didn't even exist when I was a child, so, no!
Are you in a relationship? If not, who is your crush if you have one?
No relationship, and I have not had a crush since high school pff
What’s something you’re good at vs. something you’re bad at?
Good at procrastinating, bad at resisting the lure of more wips 🙏 this makes for a wild combination haha
Dogs or cats?
Probably cats, but I am allergic to cats and dogs (and most fluffy creatures) so I don't have any pets :(
If you draw/write, or create in any way, what’s your favourite picture/favourite line/favourite etc. from something you created this year?
Probably my favourite things that I've posted this year was Dawn and well. haha. (nuts) because they were both very self-indulgent in a way that I always enjoy writing with codywan, though for very very different reasons.
What’s something you’d like to create content for?
I want to write more Aloy femslash!! I've written so much for her, but none really with the characters from the new game, and now with a canon femslash kiss under her belt, I think she deserves to be a wlw icon. Next year for femslash February I'm thinking of trying to organise a Horizon event to get some momentum not just for me but for others to create too
What’s something you’re currently obsessed with?
Val Kilmer's jaw.........
What’s something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?
I can maybe half say the Horizon: Forbidden West DLC - I liked the overarching plot well enough, and they gave Aloy a lesbian kiss so I'm not too mad, but it carried over almost all of the issues from production that the base game had, which I was keen to see fixed in the DLC. That and the lack of backstory for Seyka or the Quen, the lack of side quests and the lack of interesting stuff to do in the wilds of the DLC made it a bit of a mediocre experience for me (though after HFW I wasn't expecting anything too good anyway).
What’s a hidden talent of yours?
Not sure if it's hidden, but I'm particularly good at spotting double spaces in a document. Pisses me off (it's my editor brain going haywire... my team is always making fun of me for this at work lmao)
Are you religious?
Nope!
What’s something you wish to have at this moment?
Someone to make me breakfast </3 alas after I post this I will simply have to do it myself

People like to say the Switch is aging but...
Tumblr media
Metroid Prime Remastered gets a surprise release and there isn't a single part of me that thinks it looks old or outdated or even "last-gen".
I'm not sure why they called it a remaster. Remasters typically just have HD resolutions, higher-res textures and a few modern lighting/shader tricks. This thing is more of a remake, because it's been entirely rebuilt from the ground up. Every 3D asset is new. Every texture is new. Even character animations in cutscenes have been tweaked. Metroid Prime Remastered looks like a brand new game, even though the original came out in 2002.
I've seen a lot of people saying over the past few months that the Switch is "aging tech", people on reddit have convinced themselves that the "Super Switch" or "Switch 2" or whatever is imminent (just like the Switch Pro!). And yeah, Nintendo is probably gonna put out another console within a few years. But I don't feel like the Switch is getting too old. I'm just as excited for games coming out on it this year as I was when the console launched. I don't see this game and Tears of the Kingdom and think about how much better they could look on newer hardware. They obviously would look better, but they still look incredible on the Switch.
I think this is why Nintendo has my favorite first-party IPs; most big games over the past twenty years have been increasingly focused on hyper-realistic graphics, while Nintendo has almost always focused on art style, which translates well regardless of hardware. And I think some games benefit from hyper-realistic visuals like Red Dead Redemption 2. It's such an insanely beautiful game, but it's also a very good game in general. A lot of recent games feel like they use realistic graphics as a crutch to support bland game design. Graphical fidelity and art style are two different concepts. Good art style can age well even on limited hardware. Fallout 3 was a pretty good-looking game when it came out, fifteen years later however...
Tumblr media
Nintendo prioritizes art style. The art style of a particular game/franchise can be adapted to whatever hardware it's being developed for and then pushed to the level of graphical fidelity the hardware can handle. Metroid Prime Remastered is an entirely rebuilt game, but it retains the exact same art style from twenty years ago. Breath of the Wild was a launch title for the Switch, but it still looks just as impressive six years later. Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2/3, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Kirby and the Forgotten Kingdom (and many others)... they all look incredible on supposed "aging" hardware.
But why exactly is the Switch seemingly not good enough anymore? Well it came out after the PS4/XB1 and was already less powerful than those consoles. Now another generation of consoles have come out which are even more powerful, making the Switch seem more underpowered. People also tend to look at console generation trends, and most consoles are around for about seven years before the next one comes out. But that's an artificial reason; industry trends don't magically make the Switch outdated. The real reason is that people want a Nintendo to make a console with hardware on comparable level to other current consoles, or at least last-gen consoles at this point.
Tumblr media
That's understandable, but is it because Nintendo games don't look good enough? No, it's because we want to play non-Switch games like Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 on a handheld, in particular, one less bulky and with a better battery life than the Steam Deck, and one that still has Nintendo games on it. Sure, some Switch ports are quite bad, but we also have Doom Eternal, No Man's Sky, NieR: Automata, and plenty of others that were poorly optimized to begin with or seemingly "too much" for the Switch to handle, yet we have them, and they're amazing. There's also Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which uses very clever upsampling to produce an amazing image quality. The Witcher 3 may not look amazing on Switch, but people said it would never happen, yet here we are. That isn't to say the Switch is capable of running any game, even with clever ports and decent optimization. But it's much more capable than a lot of people give it credit for.
I bought a gaming PC in 2021, primarily for sim racing. So I don't need a PS5/XBS, but I wasn't planning on buying one even before that. The only big new game I've even played from the past year is Elden Ring. Those consoles have already been out for two years, and there's only a handful of games that can't also be bought for the previous generation. Yes, games will look and perform better on the newer consoles, but cross-generation releases have never lingered around for this long before.
Even though new generations of console will always be more powerful than the last, not many games use that extra power for much more than higher-fidelity graphics. The big issue with that is that it's a matter of diminishing returns; the jump in visual fidelity from one console generation to the next has become less and less impressive over the past twenty years. Visual detail in graphics will always get better as the hardware advances, but the closer you get to photorealism, the less there is to improve on. More polygons on-screen stops being impressive when you stop noticing the polygons. The jump from 480i to 1080p was far more noticeable than the jump from 1080p to 4K. A lot of games on newer consoles are starting to boast about 60fps, because in some cases, an increased framerate is the most noticable difference between the same game on two console generations.
Overall this trend is a bit concerning to me. Honestly, it began when the "pro" consoles came out during the last generation. The old business model feels like it's rapidly becoming obsolete, and Sony and Microsoft must feel the same way, considering how many of their first-party games they're releasing on PC these days. So it feels strange to me that the Switch is somehow too weak as the other consoles just over a generation ahead of it are running straight into a very real plateau. Metroid Prime Remastered looks just as visually impressive to me as any PS5/XBS game.
Yes, Nintendo will eventually release a new console. But we’ve reached a turning point with Sony and Microsoft where the reasons to buy their new consoles are less obvious and convincing than they’ve ever been. So maybe it's a smart strategy for Nintendo to take their time and make sure their next piece of hardware is substantially more impressive than the Switch

From fics I’ll (probably) never finish
Damnit brain.  Stop it.  @tkwritesdumbassassins my brain really needs to stop this.  Like now.
*sigh* FFO gets finished first.  You hear that brain? *shakes fist*
We don’t even have a title yet…. Mass Effect WIP banner by @radio-chatter
Tumblr media
Untitled Buddie Space Opera/Mass Effect AU
Fandom: 911…. Original Mass Effect Trilogy
Pairing: Buddie, prior Evan Buckley/Abby Clark, prior Eddie Diaz/Shannon Diaz
Tags/warnings: first draft. Space opera.  mash up of Mass Effect MShenko and Buddie.  Buck is Commander Evan “Buck” Buckley, first human Spectre.  Eddie is an alliance marine, one of the few surviving L2 biotics (aka space mage).  Buck supposedly died 2 years ago in the wreck of the Normandy after being attacked by an unknown ship thought to belong to the Collectors but he was revived by the shadow organization Cerberus and given the means to go after the new threat to the Milky Way….
what happens when your brain wants to pair the two longest, slow burn romances of two different fandoms and says ‘what if we put one in the other?’ And you get this.  MShenko is a long, 3 game burn with a payoff that made me cry the first time I played ME3.  Buddie is at, what, 5 seasons and counting assuming it ever makes canon?
Yeah I like my slow burns….
I admit the thought of Eddie being a biotic (yay biotic booty!) is maybe also what got stuck in my brain.
So have some Buddie-divorce era mixed in a blender with that whole Mass Effect 2 Horizon MShenko divorce-era and you get this.
This is first draft.  Who knows if I’ll ever get around to writing the rest of this 600k epic.
Tumblr media
“Eddie!” He calls before he can stop himself.
It is Eddie because the man comes to a halt before slowly turning.  All Buck can think is that Eddie looks unbearably good, his armor polished to a high shine, no dings or dents in it even though he’d been released from one of the Collector’s special coffin-like collection pods.  He’s still had the same ever-present scruff on his cheeks and his hair has a ruffled appearance like it’d been finger combed after sleep and just a bit longer than regulation standards. The two bars on his shoulders and around the collar denoted that he’s been promoted since Buck last saw him—Captain.  He’s Captain Diaz now—not lieutenant.
Buck still outranks him he notes in the back of his brain with satisfaction.  That is, if Buck still was considered part of the Alliance and hadn’t been declared dead more than two years ago.
You kept the rank you died in, right?
Eddie’s brown eyes search for whoever called his name and when they land on Buck there’s no mistaking the way he straightens and his spine stiffens as he comes to attention.  There’s a pallor to his face like he’d seen a ghost and he doesn’t look away as Buck lopes towards him, frozen to the spot and not running away.
“Eddie,” Buck calls his name, softer this time.  His hands itch to reach for Eddie and confirm that he’s in one piece.  Bobby’s message hadn’t mentioned who the Alliance officer was that had been sent to bring the antiaircraft guns back online—probably because he knew if he’d mentioned it was Eddie that Buck would have torn the entire galaxy apart to save him and the colonists be damned.
Bobby’s reticence to tell him where Eddie was had stung but now Buck suspected there was a reason he hadn’t been able to get in touch with Eddie. If Eddie had been assigned to Horizon then it made sense if he’d be out of comms range given the remoteness of the colony.
The puzzle pieces were starting to assemble in his brain and he was starting to come up with a picture that wasn’t pleasant to think about.
Horizon was the perfect target.  Human colony this far out without significant defenses and Buck suddenly suspected that the knowledge about the AA guns being inoperable wasn’t exactly a secret.
Bobby had sent Eddie here to witness a Collector raid.  Buck was sure of it.
Eddie who had a son—a son who only had one remaining parent.
Buck’s anger at Bobby was sudden and vicious.  How dare he put Eddie at risk!
The fact that Eddie was an accomplished marine and had a list of commendations almost as long as Buck’s arm didn’t matter.  Eddie had been his second in command and being put at risk like this…
Bobby had no idea how much danger he’d placed Eddie in and Buck’s blood boiled in fury.
Never mind that Bobby had been the one to send Buck the intel about Horizon that had sent HIM here…
“Eddie,” he called again, jogging to catch up. Lucy and Ravi hung back but following on his heels.
Eddie’s gaze sharpened and he frowned as he looked at Buck’s team behind him, immediately noticing the insignia on their uniforms and drawing his sidearm but he didn’t raise it.  Instead, he started to glow a faint blue as he activated his biotics and took a defensive stance, ready to react.  Violently if need be.
Shit. Buck waved Lucy and Ravi to stand down and walked the last ten paces to Eddie with his hands held up in peace.  In a one-on-one fight he knew he could probably take Eddie unless he started throwing around his biotics and then the math tilted the other way given how high Eddie spiked as an L2.  Buck had no intention, however, of fighting Eddie with or without biotics. “Eds—it’s me.”
“I’d heard rumors but I knew they had to be wrong,” Eddie growled, his voice rough from disuse and mistrust. “The Evan Buckley I knew would never have joined up with Cerberus.”
“It really is me,” Buck tried again. “Eds—“
“Don’t call me that.  Not while wearing his face, clone.”
“I’m not a clone!” Buck protested, doing his best to look innocent.

First Line Game
Tagged by @lexa-griffins
rules: don't reblog the first one, make a new post! look at the first lines of the last ten (10) stories you published. look to see any patterns you notice yourself, and see if anyone else notices any!
1) Famous AU (I remember posting it for clextober 2023, but I can't find it there or in my blog)
As per routine for the past several months, the group of musicians signed with arkadia Music's made their way into the hall of the hotel as they each finished their own interviews, every room on this floor was reserved for their pre-concert activities, and soon they would be leaving to the venue.
2) I'd like to be a bear this Halloween (clextober 2022)
She was almost falling asleep; her head dropping slightly every other minute before she could react and lift it back up. It had been a long while since she's dropped her book on the table, giving up on being able to understand the words she was reading.
3) Loved your Parting Gift (dead people are my favorite) (Clextober 2022)
The slightly salty scent of the only substance that could ever satiate her hunger filled her nostrils as she walked into her apartment, before she could manage a hold of her -un- natural instincts she was launching forward into her kitchen, following the smell and quickly sinking her fangs on the flesh on display of the body laying on her counter.
4) Thieve's Crew (Clexaweek 2022)
"You got her, Reyes?" The head of the team, Lexa Woods, self and socially proclaimed 'The Commander' asked as she leaned over her hacker's shoulder, with a hand in the van's wall over the screens and the other in the back of chair. She knew the latina had her, but she was wanting for her to show her where she could see.
5) BUILD Series NYU - Horizon Hukop Season One (Clexaweek 2022)
“Hey hey hey! Here we are at build NYC, everyone please welcome these are Lexa Woods and Clarke Griffin, who play Commander Alicia Clark and Queen Elyza Lexlands, two fabulous powerful women, out of many, I must add, on the sensational newly controversial show Horizon Hukop"
6) Guess we'll have to work it out (Clexaweek 2022)
It had been a very long week; with unhappy clients who had no idea what they were talking about, with her boss scolding her for those clients who complained about her incapacity to produce their unexplainable ideas they couldn't even picture themselves. Llexa was tired, and more than she would care to admit for sure.
7) Horizon Hukop - Sneak Peak II (Clexaweek 2022)
"And as I've been telling you for the past six years, I do not need a partner to rule by my side!" The Queen of Skykru exclaimed trying her hardest to keep her voice at the proper tone for this meeting with the clan's council, while also making sure there was no room for argument. She's been through this enough times to know that one small leak of her composure was all some of the eldest members needed to attack her.
8) Don't give up (Clexaweek 2022)
"Fuck!" Having met the other woman not more than a couple day ago shouldn't make the out burst surprising -at least considering that anyone as little prepared as they were would probably react the same- however the exasperated way in which the stoic, always calm biologist -who hasn't shown a glint of pother in her demeanor since the second they met- grunts angrily as she once again tries to climb the wall of ice they fell through about an hour ago, confuses her more than she would care to admit.
9) Horizon Hukop - Sneak Peak I (Clexaweek 2022)
"I told you; she's not a problem!" "She knows too much" the Commander declares as an explanation she didn't consider she needed to give, she turned away from the Queen and left her war paint on the war table "she disagrees with us" she continued "not to mention she's not even unhappy, she's angry at our decision"
10) LexaClarke (Clexaweek 2021)
Lexa has been struggling with telling her girlfriend about her powers ever since they started dating four years ago, she also would be lying is she said she never considered before, when she and Clarke were only friends. But it was complicated, it wasn't every day that you met someone with powers, and even if it was more common that one would think, it was definitely not common to meet someone who could quite literally control your mind.
Tagging: @eternalreignblog @ecfandom if you guys want, I think every other writer I follow has already been tagged, but feel free to do your own and say I tagged you (;

Top 10 songs of 2023, reviewed by yours truly
As per tradition when Spotify Wrapped comes out I write short reviews of the best songs of the year so here we go:
10. One More Time by blink-182
The biggest reveal from the world of pop punk last year was that blink-182 is back... again. First I was a little sceptical especially after hearing Edging but this song, and its video made me listen. The lyrics are about the long lost friendship between Travis, Mark and Tom, and to be completely honest I shed a couple teardrops the first few times I gave it a listen. Amazing song from an amazing record.
9. Homicide by Magnolia Park
I'm completely new to this band, I found this song randomly in an Instagram reel that caught my attention. It's super catchy, almost Linkin Park-ish vibes that is a little "Octanecore" little pop punk, but nevertheless an absolute banger.
8. Jaded by Spiritbox
Spiritbox is the new shit in the scene, everyone and their mom knows about it. But just a little less than a month ago they put out an EP consisting of 6 melodic and heavy bangers called The Fear of Fear. This song stands out from the EP because of the insanely catchy chorus, the breakdown with the clean guitar melody and just the overall feeling of the song. Courtney has always been open about her influences (even and especially the pop ones) and this song is a great example to it.
7. Lost by Linkin Park
On the 20th anniversary of Meteora, Linkin Park released a bunch of unreleased material from the recording session of the legendary album and this was the first single off of it. What more can I say about it? If you haven't heard it despite liking Linkin Park then shame of you.
6. Without A Whisper by Invent, Animate
Another surprise as I've never been a big fan of the band. Not being so into the Deftones-y spacey vibes before, this band always has been a hit or miss. Until Heavener. It's blended so seemlessly that first I didn't even notice that there's now screaming instead of singing with a bunch of reverb. I still almost never skip this song despite Heavener being released earlier this year.
5. Fake Out by Fall Out Boy
This one is probably the only song on the list that is not a single, not even the top 3 from their album So Much (for) Stardust. The boys are officially back and this song proves it, The falsetto hook in the chorus got stuck in my head after the first few listens. I'm really really glad they are back to playing instrumental music because that's what they do best.
4. Might Love Myself by Beartooth
For me this year was about healing. Healing from a past breakup, losing my previous job, and just in general the depressing reality of adulthood. After hearing the first singles from the latest Beartooth album it was obvious that Caleb, the singer for the band had been through a similar journey prior to writing this record. This song stands out for me because of the overwhelmingly positive self-loving lyrics that are a must-listen when you have been through a lot of shit. I also like the little "whoo" before the second chorus, it really makes it sound like Caleb had a lot of fun recording it.
3. Haunted by Spanish Love Songs
The most underrated band on the list by a landmile. Also probably the most depressing band I've ever listened to, which says something. The whole new record No Joy has some really interesting musical changes from the previous ones, there's less screaming, less distorted guitars, it has more of a The Killers vibe than something off tumblr's 2015 pop punk hardcore best of (looking at you The Story So Far). Haunted is a bittersweet tune about being nostalgically sad about the old days, and for an old fart that is closer to 30 than to 20 it's a comforting thing that I'm not alone with this feeling.
2. LosT by Bring Me The Horizon
What do you get when you mix 'I'm not Okay' and current era Bring Me The Horizon? That's right, this fucking banger. I think throughout the year this song was the only one that I've never skipped. The pop punk-emo feeling is in every note, the breakdown is easily my most favorite of the year, the callout for it is even. "I think i'm gonna break down". Fucking genius by the most dynamic songwriting duo of the music scene, Oli and Jordan. The powerpop elements are also fun to listen to, it just blends really well. 10/10 banger, looking forward to the EP.
Ascensionism/Take Me Back To Eden by Sleep Token
The biggest band of the year was 100% Sleep Token. My Spotify was POSSESSED by their music this year, so obviously it was a tough choice to pick a song from their latest album so I cheated a little with the longest, most progressive songs of the record. Their music feels like a religious experience for me and the best example to this is Ascensionism, the "YOU MAKE ME WISH I COULD DISAPPEAR" line hits, the rap part fits perfectly, the guitars are heavy as balls, the piano intro is the perfect introduction, it's a 12/10 song, it's that good
And honestly I have the same feelings about Take Me Back to Eden. The titular song and its callbacks to Chokehold made me feel like I'm in a chokehold myself. The epitome of great songwriting was when from the nature sounds through rapping we got to the heaviest, low tuned breakdown of the last couple years
So there you have it, my personal top 10+1 list. If you read my review this far, thank you.

pattern art to get in the fall spirit and take up space while I do a life update. I've accomplished a few things, books, video games and then some life issues.
So easy stuff first I guess. I finished one of my goals of reading a Harry Potter book in spanish. I read the first book. It took me all year because it was a major brain fart/humbler. Reason why I chose HP was because its made for kids and it was familiar. I did NOT understand everything but luckily digital devices come equipped with a translation dictionary. About halfway through the book is when I had my first notebook with my art made. Whenever I get to book 2 my plan is to write down words that I had trouble with. There were 3 words in the first book that showed up frequently that kept confusing me but I didn't write them down haha. So I cant tell you.
I have a rant about another book I'm reading, Ill wait til I'm done
--games--
Secondly I finished playing Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West back to back. That took me..ages..when I first turned on HFW I was like "oh..thats the map..this is tiny" and well somehow I put double the man hours into the sequel than the original game with the DLC. Think I finished HZD in 50 or 60 hours after completing everything that game had to offer. 100% completion. HFW Id been playing for 90 and I didn't complete everything and just kinda said "eff this" and finished it. I like open world games. I'd play a third game, probably wont get to a dlc I dont generally do those on purpose.
My issue is though is I still don't like the character designs. I think HZD was the superior game. I kind of like the doom and gloom apocalypse back story and I like the idea of our modern life being somebody elses ruins. I like that. But everything else, the over story, the character designs..its like putting a jak and daxter style design on a serious story of The Last of Us. It didn't go. We needed to either choose if we were being serious or not. The sequel I enjoyed the gameplay but I think it suffered from being a sequel. Its getting too big for its britches. I dont like the space stuff. I dont like the immortality stuff.
so not my favorite game of all time but I'd play another.
I was playing disney dreamlight but I think Ill move on here soon to Ooblets to fill in time.
---
Lastly life.
--
My grandma died. It was not unexpected especially after seeing her for the final time a few weeks ago and I could tell she wasn't going to make it much longer. The thing that kinda bothered me or reassured me the most is..atleast gramma wasn't aware of what was going on. She's told me to my face how much the death of her siblings years before traumatized her and how she's afraid of dying. Really afraid we're all going to hell. If she could see herself on her deathbed she would absolutely freak out.
seeing her at the viewing again, was kinda sad. She just looked uncomfortable. People say "atleast now they're at peace" nah, gramma looked just as uncomfortable as when I saw her the other weekend. Its amazing how my brain remembers her from a few years ago and that viewing-experience just did not look like the gramma that I knew.
its just another phase of life coming to an end.
we've had it rough this past year. Husband lost his dad, we lost our cat at the same time and I've lost 2 grandmothers.
My work called me off the entirety of last week so I havent worked in over a week. Todays my first day back and I was asked to come in late. So I'ma have like..no paycheck..but whatever I guess.
so anywho I havent managed to be creative. I did manage to draw a bit yesterday so I may paint something but I dont know think it'll meet any sort of standard or expectation.

Fic writers' 2022 roundup:
I've never done one of these before, but I was tagged by @pikapeppa, so I'll give it a shot!
Words written: 54,050. It's not a lot, but other than the year I wrote my master's thesis, it's the most actual writing I've done in a long time, fanfic or otherwise. I'll count it as an accomplishment!
Smut scenes: Oof. Let's see. 6? We'll go with 6. Across four different fics.
New things I tried: Within the last 12 months, I've dipped my toes into the Arcane fandom and finished/posted 3 parts for my (ongoing?) three-part CaitVi series: Every Small Disaster, Say My Name (Like an Elegy), and It's Psychosomatic. It's been so much fun! Hopefully I'll find another opportunity to do more for this pairing. I definitely want to write more of them in the future!
Fic I spent the most time on: My longest fic was Where The Time Goes. I started Chlodine Week 5 years ago for this tiny, desperately-hanging-on fandom, but never wrote anything substantial for it beyond a few oneshots. This year I spent 2-3 months working on a labor of love that I never expected to go anywhere. It was a fic almost entirely for myself, and so far it's my favorite thing I've ever written. I was so happy when it was finished.
Fic I spent the least time on: The first fic for my CaitVi series, Every Small Disaster. (This was technically posted Christmas of 2021, but I'll count it) It was my first time dipping my toes into the Arcane fandom, and I think it came out swimmingly!
Favorite thing I wrote: Definitely Where The Time Goes. Chlodine will always have a special place in my heart. I can't think of a fandom that's more dear to me than the Uncharted fandom. It's been a light through the toughest years of my life so far. I owe a lot to it, and particularly the Chlodine ship. I don't see it being outranked as my OTP any time soon.
Favorite fic(s) I read: I've read so many AMAZING things this year. This list will be DIFFICULT to narrow down. Here goes:
Violence and Variations by Thisisatree (@dancing-b0nes): The Locked Tomb has made up the majority of my fic and book re-reading in 2022, and this one is no exception. Technically started this one in 2021, but it's still ongoing, so I'll count it. While it's like 60% a Griddlehark fic, and sort of a re-imagining of their lives post-TLT, practically every ship, in all their wonderful configurations, gets their dirty day in the sun. I have been on the edge of my seat for more than a year with this one, and it shows no signs of stopping. Also extremely spicy! I'm so hooked!
Twice by BonesforTime: Another TLT fic, this one's a re-imagining of the events at Canaan House in Gideon the Ninth, with such a unique take on what it means to be a Lyctor and on the dynamics of the cavalier/necromancer relationship. And lore and world-building! Another Griddlehark-focused fic, this one constantly has me in stitches, combined with such a raw, intimate writing style for the smut scenes. Bones has such a way with words, and they continue to amaze me with each new installment. Definitely continuing this one into 2023!
Table Manners by Armengard (@armengard): Y'all know I go absolutely feral for anything by Armengard. Their first contribution to the CaitVi space is no exception. They took me out with a one-shot earlier this year that will undoubtedly be on my fic re-read rotation for years to come. Can't say enough positive things about their entire catalog, so this one is also definitely worth a read. And sooooooo spicy! Whew!
Even The Hardiest Desert Blooms Need to Get Wet Sometimes by Pikapeppa (@pikapeppa): Literally the only writer of MLW ships this lesbian will read these days. Their writing style is just that good. It's so refreshing and engaging that if they decided to author a dictionary, I'd probably read it. I jumped back into the Horizon fandom (extremely late, forgive me) after a major surgery over the summer, and the first thing I did upon playing Forbidden West was dive back into their fics. This one is a Drakkaloy fic, and is not only entertaining, but also extremely spicy. Definitely a must-read!
Your Mouth and Its Flowers by driluth (@driluth): Technically late 2021, but I'll count it. This is a CaitVi AU based on one of my favorite books of 2022, This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone. The symbolism! The way Red and Blue are literally Vi and Caitlyn, and are so amazingly portrayed in this AU! Definitely a hidden gem for me to find in 2022! But I'm so glad I did!
Writing goals for next year: I don't have any particular writing goals for 2023. I'm looking forward to the Horizon Forbidden West DLC, so if I can get my hands on a PS VR 2, maybe I'll get inspired to dip a toe into the Horizon fandom. I'm definitely tempted by all the WLW potential for this series. Also more TLT...Alecto is coming in September, so there is still more to work with. We'll see!

So Nintendo announced that they're fully shutting down any servers that the 3ds and wii u use for games
Except Pokémon Bank
Which is still on life support and, according to TPC, they encourage us to transfer to Home soon, meaning they WILL be shut down, probably within the year.
Realistically this was at the back of my head back when they first introduced Bank almost 10 years ago, but I'm still irritated about it.
First of all, let's look at the shut down of servers. XY, ORAS, SM, USUM all lose wonder trading, online trading, and gts- effectively meaning trade evolutions and version exclusives are forever lost to those games once that happens. That also means the only instance of gts we'll ever have now is in fucking Home. And that sucks.
Here's another thing: When Bank shuts down, what does that mean for transferring?
Well, we'll still have gen 3 to gen 4 to gen 5 transfer, they can't take that away from us because that was back when they cared enough to make transferring an in game mechanic.
But now we have the issue of gen 5 onward, and for that matter the gen 1 and gen 2 Virtual Console games. The only way to transfer those pokemon will be through Transporter, which btw has to connect to Bank, which is a cloud based service. Even further complicating things, you cannot transfer to or from gen 6 or gen 7 once it shuts down. Basically, pokemon obtained prior to gen 5 are stuck in gen 5, gen 1 are stuck to gen 1, gen 2 to gen 2, gen 6 to gen 6, and gen 7 to gen 7.
Looking at the current situation on Switch, we'll only have access to Kanto via the Let's Go games, Sinnoh/Hisui via BDSP and Legends Arceus, while Galar and Paldea are currently unaffected.
That means when Bank shuts down- and they will shut it down next year probably- we lose access to Johto, Hoenn, Unova, Kalos, and Alola- which btw Alola is not even 10 years old yet.
Even with a positive outlook that Unova and Johto are next up for remakes/re-remakes/revisits, that's still means that we no longer have access to 3 regions, and especially Alola for at LEAST 10 years at this rate.
Even further complicating things, as it stands with Indigo Disk on the horizon, we'll still be missing a few pokemon across the Switch games. It's a small handful, but those are still unusable.
Look, I get some of you have already labeled me an asshole manchild getting upset over something we all saw coming- fuck you btw, but I get it. It still just sucks so much ass. I know people that don't transfer don't get the big deal and are already typing up why i'm stupid and should just get over it- but to me, I've always enjoyed keeping each pokemon that's made a difference to my playthroughs throughout the years. That was a unique thing for Pokemon as a series that separated it from other games- i actually still have Pokemon from when i was 9.
What this means is that once Bank is gone, your pokemon are stuck, you cannot transfer anymore! If you want to play through those games, you'll have to erase any new pokemon! If you encounter a shiny in X or something after Bank closes, tough titties! It's basically gone forever.
This absolutely sucks. I literally haven't experienced this since I learned I couldn't transfer my very first pokemon from gen 2 to gen 3 back when I was a kid.
It also just highlights a humongous issue with modern games in general. Too much reliance on services that won't be available 10 years from now. Too much reliance on the assumption that game companies will care enough about preservation to keep things going even when it's not AS profitable- which it still would be.
Like again, I get that they couldn't "realistically" keep it up forever- Except tbh they could have if they actually gave a shit beyond what makes them more money than they'll ever need. I fucking hate corporate gaming. Like you CAN NOT realistically tell me they don't make enough money from Home subs and Go to just keep the damn servers up. It isn't that old! The technology can probably run from like, 1 broom closet at most.
Listen, if anyone smart out there can do this, I have an idea for you: create some sort of hardware that directly copies info from gba, ds, 3ds, and switch cartridges- especially Pokémon games- by plugging in said cartridges to a program of some kind. That program can then be used to essentially copy the process that Transporter, Bank, and Home uses to copy the specific data of of each specific pokemon and then inject that data straight into the cartridge, with no cloud service needed. At the very least fans need to figure a work around like they did the DS DNS servers for events and gts, or else we just have even more corporate sponsored lost media.
I'm upset, man. Fuck corporate pokemon. Fuck Nintendo too. Fuck all of this. There's no need for any of this except greed. I don't want to hear how Pokémon was being "gracious" by giving us more time, they're a corporation and I'm not kissing their asses anymore for doing the bare minimum, they can and should do better by their fans and have been getting away with far too much bullshit lately.

Howdy! I got a a gift card for the nintendo switch for christmas but don't know what to use it on. Would you recommend any games? I know you play a variety.
Oh! Sure thing! I'm flattered to even be considered for something like that lol
Tumblr media
Considering I finished playing it only minutes ago, the first thing that comes to mind is the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy, which probably needs no introduction, but just in case: they're part visual novel, part puzzle/logic games where you play as a defense lawyer solving elaborate murder mysteries. Very funny, feels like watching a goofy anime except you get to solve the mysteries yourself.
Next, here's some great indie titles I personally have downloaded on my Switch:
Tumblr media
Undertale (& Deltarune chapters 1+2): undeniable masterpieces. If you haven't already played them you really should. They're short, heartfelt RPGs with memorable characters, challenging but fun bullet hell-style combat, and stories so good they've basically had an effect on the entire video game medium. I love them from the bottom of my heart.
Tumblr media
Hades: another masterpiece you've surely already heard of, but worth recommending anyway. It's a punishingly hard roguelike where you repeatedly try to battle your way out of the underworld, but the story and characters--all drawn from Greek mythology--are exquisitely crafted and incredibly rewarding to uncover. (I haven't technically played this one myself but I've watched my partner put hundreds of hours into it--plus there's a sequel on the horizon!)
Tumblr media
Ori and the Blind Forest (and sequel Ori and the Will of the Wisps): incredibly fun, fast-paced, and beautifully animated Metroidvania where you play as an agile little light spirit trying to save your forest home. Story's very dialogue-light but epic and emotional; you may cry.
Tumblr media
Crypt of the Necrodancer: unbelievably fun rhythm-based dungeon crawler where you fight your way through monsters and undead by moving and attacking to the beat. The story is charming, too, but the gameplay and music alone make this one a must-try. (Note: if you prefer, there's a Zelda spinoff called Cadance of Hyrule that's a crossover with this game. Same type of gameplay, but a little more forgiving, and also Zelda flavored. :3)
Tumblr media
CrossCode: wildly underrated action RPG about a girl who wakes up mute and amnesiac inside an MMO world and has to uncover its secrets with the power of friendship and punching things with chakrams. I love these characters so hecking much and the combat in this game is really difficult but also incredibly satisfying to master. Also features some great puzzles and tricky platforming.
Tumblr media
Petal Crash: a charming little arcade puzzler where you move colorful blocks to make chains and earn points/clear the board. There's a story mode where you can play through as different characters, and they're all super cute and funny. (iirc, the dialogue is all written by the creator of the webcomic Paranatural, and it shows!)
Some other random indie titles that come to mind:
Tumblr media
LIMBO: a short, atmospheric horror platformer with some memorably dark, unsettling moments and pretty satisfying puzzles for such a short game. I first played this back in high school and for some reason it still sticks with me after all these years. It's also like $2 in the eShop right now, so. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ (I believe the game Inside is from the same studio, and I remember enjoying watching a playthrough of it years ago, but I haven't played that one myself.)
Tumblr media
Stardew Valley: I've never played this one on console, but I currently have 225 hours logged for it on Steam lol. It's a farm sim, but it also has a pretty robust cast of townsfolk who are really fun to get to know, and plenty of other things to occupy your time as well. Mining, dungeon delving, artifact collecting, and a nice little story about sticking it to the evil corporate overlords and bringing your community together.
Tumblr media
Terraria: ditto to Stardew Valley, also with about 200 hours in my Steam account. This one is a 2D adventure platformer with procedurally generated worlds that you explore for resources that you can build or craft into whatever you like: combat gear, homes for your NPC neighbors, forbidden magicks to summon alien horrors--you name it! Can be played kind of sandboxy like a 2D Minecraft, or there is a long series of challenging and interesting bosses to encounter if you feel like uncovering secrets!
Tumblr media
Untitled Goose Game: short puzzle game where you play as a goose gently terrorizing a suburban neighborhood. You've seen the memes. It was popular for a reason though--very charming and fun!
Tumblr media
Castle Crashers: a classic beat-em-up with humor as cartoony as its visual style. Play as colorful knights on a quest to retrieve four princesses from an evil necromancer. Leans a tad much on toilet humor and the combat can be a little repetitive, but overall very silly and slapstick and super fun to play with friends.
Tumblr media
Wingspan: this one's a little out of left field but I just remembered this is on Switch! I have the physical board game this is based on, and I highly recommend that, so I imagine the digital version is worth a look, too. It's a card-based strategy game where you collect bird species to compete for the best sanctuary. Once you get the hang of it, you can play a whole game in 30-45 minutes. Also, the art's gorgeous and the developers are based in my home state!
Aaaand some other misc classics worth mentioning:
Tumblr media
Katamari Damacy: roll a sticky ball around and pick up objects. Then pick up bigger objects. Bigger! BIGGER!
Tumblr media
Portal & Portal 2: solve puzzles with portable wormholes and survive the attentions of a mad AI. Excellent puzzles and legendary characters and humor.
Tumblr media
most old Final Fantasy titles are available for relatively cheap, including 7, 8, and 9! I'm a fan of all of them. :}
Tumblr media
Okami: adding this one last minute because I didn't realize it had a Switch port!! INCREDIBLE action rpg where you play as a sun goddess in the form of a wolf, fighting epic monster battles and restoring peace to ancient Japan. Gorgeous, fun, iconic.
...
Uh, and that's all I can think of for now! I tried to include some lesser-known stuff as well as some classic gems, so hopefully something catches your eye! I'm a little surprised the list is so short, but when it comes down to it I'm actually pretty Basic when it comes to my taste in video games lol--largely Pokemon and Zelda outside of this list tbh.
Merry Christmas and have fun gaming, anon!!

I've been playing a ton of shit and not talking about it but
Star Ocean 2nd Story (PS1) is already one of my favorite RPGs just like First Departure R was. I'm kinda leaning toward not liking Claude but its probably because I'm playing as Rena so I'm not getting his internal monologue. But based on his intro in the 2nd Story R demo and how he's acting about Dias I'm like youre kinda a dumbass huh. But not in the lovable heroic way Roddick was. But I think its fine if he kinda sucks, there's room for that
Umihara Kawase is another game that is like instantly on my favorites of all time list. I'm on stage 5 and I'm like okay top 3 SNES game. Could be top 1 but Hebereke and Star Ocean are on there too hehe. But its like a physics based grapple platformer and its so cool. I need to go look at the new one again even though its kinda uggy
I bought Mushihime-sama because I'm still trying to expand my shmup horizons but I haven't been on my Switch much because I'm playing Star Ocean 2 and Pokemon Ruby but from the 2 seconds I played it was really good
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 days, I'm giving so much leniency because I want to like Xion and I wanna experience her story. So far I've only done the tutorial with Axel and its a DS game so I dont expect much from it in terms of performance or visuals or whatever, its fine. My problem and why I'm having to exercise patience is that the writing of that series is so frustrating. The idea of that game is flawed. The whole thing exists to make the organization seem lamer. Like the mysterious shadow guys that were a big threat in chain of memories and 2, those guys all get together for meetings where xemnas assigns them busy work and they groan and complain about it even though i always forget theyre supposed to be emotionless. Vexen doing the Nagatoro crazy eyes all the time doesnt come off as hollow to me. It just makes me mad because its like FF7 where it could be great but a man named Tetsuya Nomura was handed a pen and paper and now we're here. But I will do it for her
I played 20 minutes of Izuna Legend of the Unemployed Ninja and I basically did the intro and then died to the 3rd enemy in the first floor of the dungeon but that game shouldve been more popular. It's really good but unfortunately it released on the same system as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. Izuna sucks so bad I love her. The first thing she does is go to a shrine that says "this gem keeps the gods from being mad at us do not touch" and shes like hehehe all for meeee. Then the inn keeper is like I'm charging you 300x the rent till you fix this and shes like "we cant afford that, I will pay it... with my life" and she takes out a matchlock pistol and puts it to her head, and the inn lady is like yeah alright do it, and then you hear a click noise and Izuna is like damn out of bullets. I was like this is an insane way to introduce this character but shes my fail girl and we're gonna solve this curse together
The other fun thing has been playing Dark Souls 1 with my brother alongside his co-op playthrough of Smellden Ring with his partner, cuz DS1 is a good game and Smellden Ring is so bad that he has fully admitted I was right when i was bitching like a year ago or whatever. Cuz he took faith this time and now that theyve hit the wall of Mohg and Malenia hes like why the fuck is everything in this fucking game INT. And I'm like yeah dude, idk!!! But then like, we just did Sen's Fortress in DS1 and that place is so mean and fucked up but I was having a chill time just walking through all the traps and snake men and kicking my feets under the desk. DS1 is fully relaxing to me just like Bloodborne and most of DS3. Next time we play is O&S though so I'll get back 2 u on that statement

January 9th, 2024
I ended up going up to see the friend I was going to see last week, this week. After a day of procrastinating leaving by playing the Sims, I finally made the 2ish hour drive to the town that I continue to be shocked he has willingly chosen to live in.
This friend is one of my oldest. We met for the first time when we were 12, although we only really became as close as we are now after we graduated high school. This is due to a few things, one of which was we were simultaneously in shitty relationships where our boyfriends didn't want us talking to each other because we got along too well.
Anyway, he's really good at making you feel comfortable, and seen, and taken care of; and now he has a house, a fiance, and a dog that reflects that. I love visiting him.
On the drive up I ate almost an entire bag of nori maki, so when he asked me if I was hungry I lied and said yes. He's the type of person to hear that and then say we can go get dinner later even though he's starving.
My friend worked in restaurants for many years, and his fiance still currently does, so they are both very good at picking out places to eat and probably know at least one of the staff. We went to "one of the only decent places to go to" which was a bar that served sandwiches. I got the smallest size of the vegetarian option that had no peanut butter, and when the bartender asked me if I wanted anything to drink my mind went blank.
Besides sips here and there, I stopped drinking about 1 or 2 years ago. The reasons behind this include (1) Unless heavily disguised, I hate the taste and tbh the heavily disguised drinks taste better without it (2) I developed an intolerance where I start vomiting heavily after I've had more than 2 drinks (3) Despite rarely drinking, when I did drink I did so heavily. The moment I realized that I could have just as much fun on a night without risking blacking out again, I never turned back.
Despite this, I'm a firm believer in a fun little drink to accompany a meal, so I've been trying more mocktails. I turned to my friend, who has worked as a bartender and is fantastic at mixing drinks and asked him for ideas for a mocktail I could try. I was expecting something unexpected or cool that I had never heard of, and this motherfucker said "a Shirley Temple". They're incredible though, so I got one. He drank a beer.
We talked about how busy and draining our lives are right now, and how crazy it is that he's living such a stable, adult life. He's an archaeologist, which is insane, but he's working really hard to be seen as invaluable when the layoffs he sees looming on the horizon finally happen. I'm not sure how his wedding is going to look, but I'm excited to be important enough to someone to be in their wedding party. He texted me the day he got engaged to ask if there was any time I wouldn't be able to come to their wedding so they could plan around it when they set the date.I know my friend is a little worried because his fiance has more people to invite, but I know it'll all be wonderful in the end.
Their dog is very, very nervous and doesn't do well with moves, but she usually really loves me. It took some work, but eventually, she came and sat with me again while my friend and I talked. I need to come to see them more often so I can reestablish myself as a favorite again.
His fiance came home later that night, and joined in our conversation. I really like him, and I hope eventually we can become friends outside of our mutual connection. First I need to get better at calling my friend though.
I was offered edibles and decided to take some, stupidly thinking they were the same dosage as last time I had taken edibles at their house. Previously, 2 gummies had meant feeling relaxed but clear-headed, this time it meant that I felt that I was trapped inside a heavy skin suit and I didn't know where my lungs were. I'm becoming more and more fond of not chemically altering my mood.
When I was drunk, I had a horrible habit of doing everything in my power to not let anyone know. I would do the most obviously drunk-person things and then deny if anyone asked me. I found out I have the same instinct when high, but I went to bed before it became too much of a problem.

Yoo! I've been tagged by @randomfae (except tumblr is broken and it didn't really tag me/I didn't get a notif, so we all lucky I saw it xD) to post the top 4 songs I've been listening to recently, so let's a gooo!
I should note that I usually listen to music while drawing and play whole albums, so this list is not gonna be super accurate in order to not make it 4 songs from the same album xD
The Breach, by Starset- (from their last album, Horizons, which I've been listening to obsessively for the last several weeks. I don't know what is it about this song but I really love it and makes me want to siiiing! A song I actually put on listen-on-repeat, which I rarely use)
Boundary (VY1V4), by Youtube user Heartbreaker- (I recently rescued this one from my Vocaloid obsession period, which was, pffft, like 6-7 years ago? I didn't remember the title or artist so it was really hard to find again. It just has like, a lot of emotion to it? A song that doesn't bring me down when in a good mood but that resonates with me when in a bad mood. Nevermind the lyrics because I)
DLH Afrodita, by Pascu y Rodri- (look, this song is very catchy, very fun, and about greek mythology, so what else could I ask for? xD Oh, yeah! It's also in my first language so that means I can actually catch onto the lyrics easily! :D)
And I'm gonna leave it at three songs because otherwise it's just the rest of Starset's Horizons album, lol! I tag @ineverpostmydoodles and anyone else who wants to join! ^^

GOTY 2021
Weird year, man. Global Pandemic Year 2 coincided with Year 2 of me taking time between jobs. You see how I did that? "Taking time between jobs" sounds a lot better than "very unemployed, dangerously burnt out, wandering through a depressed haze while spending two years being very, very broke." You would think that being forced to stay in my apartment by a deadly virus and having no job would've led to me playing more video games this year, but something about 2021 makes it hard to remember what I even played. Everything is a blur, in many ways it feels like I only played every game about two hours. If my brain was in constant fight or flight mode in 2020, in 2021 it just sort of sizzled on a pan like those old anti-drug commercials, spastic but nicely heated by the dual stress of pandemic and crushing capitalism.
That said, I'd like to share with you my Top 8 games of the year, and then spend some time talking about all the things I played that didn't quite rank in that Top 8. mostly because I didn't play them quite enough or because they came out years ago. Okay, let's go.
MY TOP 8 GAMES OF 2021
Tumblr media
#8. HITMAN 3
Hey they added some more levels into Hitman and slapped a three on it! It lets me play all the Hitman I already own! It's still that fun and goofy Hitman experience, even if I've kind of played a lot of that over the last five years!
I enjoyed my time with it, but I probably only played through the new levels once. I had a blast playing the new experimental stages, but quickly found myself using it as an excuse to go back and play the older stages from Hitman 1 & 2 that were my favorites.  Like several games on this list, I didn't play as much Hitman 3 in its release year as I would've liked, but I am comforted by the idea that it is sitting on a hard drive, ready for me to dive into at any point in the future…
Tumblr media
#7. FORZA HORIZON 5
…Which is exactly how I feel about Forza Horizon 5. Here's another one of those series that I like a lot, that is still just as good as it’s ever been, but I didn't play as much as I thought I would this year, because I play so much of them every year. Honestly, I probably played a lot more Forza Horizon 4 this year than 5, just due to the fact that 5 came out in November and I had all the months before November to fool around in 4. So, honestly, well, 2022 is probably gonna be my big Forza Horizon 5 year.
The cars are still fun, the concept of a weird wild "car festival" is still just the right amount of dumb, and boy does beautiful Mexico look good in 4K on a Series X.
Tumblr media
#6. ALAN WAKE REMASTERED
Alan Wake is still great. The tone and influences and writing still impress eleven years later. Maybe more interestingly, some of the things that bothered me when the game first came out no longer do. I despised collecting manuscript pages and coffee thermoses back then—thought it really destroyed the pacing and atmosphere to be bumbling around the levels collecting literal garbage, and maybe it still does—but now I don't mind it. Hang out in this cool spooky pacific northwest town a little more? Sure.
Perhaps more importantly, Remedy succeeded so well two years ago with Control that I can't wait to see what they do with the newly announced Alan Wake 2.
Tumblr media
#5. MONSTER HUNTER RISE
Every time I pick up a Monster Hunter game, I enjoy it a little bit more and I play it for a little bit longer than the last one. Rise didn't buck this trend, as I spent most of the month of March fighting and capturing giant weird dino monsters. I think the combo of the game being handheld and just generally more accessible than even the previously pretty accessible Monster Hunter World helped a lot. I also think that maybe the lowered technical prowess of the Nintendo Switch worked in its favor, as the thing that finally stopped me from playing Monster Hunter World on PS4 was that I felt sad when the monsters would limp around after a beating, and I'd have to chase them to their nests and finish them off. The Switch makes everything feel a little more cartoony, and that actually makes me feel less bad about mass monster murder.
Tumblr media
#4. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY
Oh wow, what a nice surprise this game is. Square Enix's Avengers game was such a downer that when I saw the first video from this game I was immediately turned off... but it's great! The story and writing are just charming as hell. It tells a pretty complex cosmic Marvel story in a real chill, natural way, with great introspection on each character and actual real laughs. The combat is serviceable in a throwback kind of way, but I kept playing for the story, and boy does the story deliver.
Tumblr media
#3. DEATHLOOP
This game has everything I'm looking for with its premise, setting, and characters. Set in a 60s mod supervillain lair and starring two cool black characters? And it's about time travel? It ticks all my boxes, and does it all with a great style. The gameplay borrows chunks from several genres, rearranging them in brand new ways to make a game that is so different than everything else that it takes about three hours of prologue just to fully understand its mechanics. It's got all the best parts of a rogue-like game without the frustration. It's got a lot of the things I love about an immersive sim, but in digestible bite-sized chunks. There's a PVP element where you're being hunted by the antagonist in the otherwise single-player game, and that antagonist can be player controlled. The PVP is well-balance and thrilling and you can turn it off but why would you?
My only complaint with Deathloop is that it appears to overstay its welcome a bit, because well, I haven't finished it. But that's okay, I look forward to spending more time with it in 2022, wrapping up that story, and then seeing if I can sneak into some other player's games and mess them up.

#2. METROID DREAD
It felt so good to play Metroid again. Metroid Dread is such an achievement, in a restrained way that’s still somehow surprising. They just went and made another of those old Metroid games! It's dripping with nostalgia, but holds nothing back. It always feels like it's throwing a new upgrade, power-up, or boss battle at you. And boy, is it a challenge. My official completion time was somewhere around 9 hours, but I spent an additional 7 hours just dying over and over again to bosses. Somehow it was never frustrating, though. The difficulty felt as nostalgic as the other parts of the game, taking me back to what it was like to play games as a kid, how I would have to put something aside and step away from it for days or weeks, then come back and give it another go.

#1. INSCRYPTION
I had so much fun with Inscryption this year. I won't be spoiling the game here, and my advice to you is to not read anything else about Inscryption and just go play it. It's got a narrative structure that's only possible in a video game. It's just full of weird vibes, fun surprises, and satisfying gameplay. It's a weird spooky rogue-like card game that really goes places, and I recommend that everyone play it. What a game.
Games that I enjoyed, but that don't quite make a ranked list, mostly because I didn't play them enough.
Super Mario 3D World Bowser's Fury - If I was the type of person who felt it necessary to round this list out to a Top Ten, then Bowser's Fury would be on it. The Mario 3D World portion is just a Switch version of the very good Wii U game, but the Bowser's Fury content is a brand new, semi-open world take on Mario that hits all the right joy sensors in my brain, and gets me excited for whatever that Mario team is working on next.
New Pokemon Snap - Once again, if I was making a list that had ten games on it, this would be there too. I'm not a big Pokemon guy, but I love games that play around with photography, and this game is the right kind of chill. I do wish that Nintendo, with their near endless budgets, had spent a bit more creative capital and gone all out on this release. I would love true open world areas, better photo judging algorithms, and more extensive online mechanics, but I'm still just happy we got another one of these.
Pokemon Unite - I know I just said I'm not really a Pokemon guy, but oh wow, I played an embarrassing amount of this in the first month or so it was out. Just match after frustrating match, but for a brief period it really dug its way into me, even if I was actively angry every other battle. I recently loaded it up again, just to see how to unlock the Santa Pikachu they had changed the game thumbnail to, and it's still that same game, but now with a bunch more Pokemon and even more levers to make you keep playing and spend real money on things. I don't know, it still gives me what I want out of a MOBA without having to play a real MOBA, and so I'll probably keep it installed on my Switch forever.
The Ascent - Oh I really had a good time with this one, but hit enough bugs at launch that after ten hours or so I decided to wait until it got patched a couple times, and then I never came back. I really enjoy the setting and aesthetic, though, and definitely feel like it's a better cyberpunk game than Cyberpunk 2077.
Resident Evil Village - I only picked this game up recently, because I am a scaredy cat who loved RE4, but couldn't make it past the first five minutes of RE7.  I'm currently somewhere midway through the real tall lady's house, and really enjoying my time with it. I am still quite anxious about playing it, but so far I've found the balance of freaky things to bullets in my gun reasonable enough to keep me going.
Halo Infinite - Hey they made another Halo! The multiplayer seems good and I like that it's free and that the battle passes don't expire. They tried to do a semi-open world thing and that shows off how fun Halo gameplay is, but also I'm already kind of bored and I've barely played any of it? Frankly, Halo Infinite is a success in my book because it's not awful. I'm sure I'll give this game a lot more time in 2022, and I also bet I'll come back to the multiplayer for years.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition - I only played a bit of ME1 on here and only while streaming on Twitch. Mass Effect is still good and unlike some other remasters this year, this one seems alright.  Maybe I'll find time to play it more in 2022.
Death’s Door - It's like Zelda crossed with Dark Souls, but you play a cute bird. I wish I had given this more time, I really enjoy it.
Ratchet and Clank: A Rift in Time - What a good looking game. I got this right at the end of the year, so I've barely touched it. I'm very early on, but so far it's one of them Ratchet and Clanks but somehow looks better than a Pixar movie. I'm sure I'll leisurely pick away at it in 2022.
Lake - I just started this and want to give it more time. Nice relaxing story game where you deliver mail in a 1980s small town? Sure.
Alright, so here's the real list—the place I put my real gaming time this year—these are games that didn't come out in 2021, but that I still played and enjoyed:
Wide Ocean Big Jacket - Great narrative game you can play in an evening or two. Just good vibes, man. It's on PC and Switch and everyone should play it.
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1&2 - Another great remake, which somehow was rare the last couple years. I just like having this on my hard drive just in case I need to be happy fast.
The Last of Us Part 2 - I despised the discourse on this one so much at launch—and the depressing nature of the series was not what I needed in Pandemic Year 1—but in Pandemic Year 2 I finally got a PS5 and so I picked it up on sale and really enjoyed the small amount of time I put into it. I'm not that far, maybe 10 hours. I stopped because I suddenly had to kill a bunch of dogs and I don't know, that doesn't seem like such a great time? Maybe I'll go back to it, or maybe I'll just pretend that Ellie retired in Seattle and now lives with a bunch of really nice dogs.
Assassin's Creed Valhalla - I put so many hours into this in 2021. Such a big game, just beautiful and so much to do and just enough weird Assassin's Creed lore bullshit. I'm still somewhere in the Ireland dlc, and so I guess I'll be playing more of this in 2022.
Spider-Man Miles Morales - I maybe enjoyed this more than the previous game? It's shorter, with a tighter story, and it just so good to have a game starring Miles Morales and to see him treated well, and to have the other characters in the game also be people of color. Plus it's still just a blast to swing around that city.
Snowrunner - This was my main twitch streaming game this year, and I had a really good time hopping on stream and getting stuck in the mud with a big truck and complaining about capitalism.
Genshin Impact - I'm always this close to just going all in on Genshin Impact. Instead, I turn it on when I need a bright, chill, colorful world, but never dive too deep. I mostly ignore the free-to-play nonsense, and just do a few quests. It's nice.
Destiny 2 - The Destiny seasonal story stuff actually got good this year? I'm still a very casual Destiny player; I hop in, I do the new story stuff, and that's about it. I've still never done a raid or a dungeon, but I love the lore, love the game feel, and I'm always pleased to return when they've added a new chapter of weird proper nouns for me to try and comprehend while I shoot the aliens.
Final Fantasy 13-2 - Last year I replayed Final Fantasy 13, a game I had already played through before, and this year I restarted Final Fantasy 13-2, a game I had bounced off of pretty quickly at launch, but which I find endlessly interesting now. It's a weird, convoluted time-travel story that feels like fan-fiction of the previous game, while also actively trying to undo its history. I'm still somewhere in the middle of it, but hopefully I can find some time to push through it later in 2022.
Risk of Rain 2 - I love the vibes of Risk of Rain 2, I wish I wasn't awful at it.
Tomb Raider (2013) and Rise of the Tomb Raider - I found myself replaying these games again this year for some reason? It was therapeutic to shoot dumb mercs with arrows and solve ancient puzzles at like 2am when I'd had too much whiskey after stressing about being unemployed. They still hold up.
Injustice 2 - Speaking of holding up, Injustice 2 is still good! I also played a bunch more Mortal Kombat 11 this year, but at some point the bloody ultra-violence of MK11 wasn't what I was in the mood for, so I suddenly found myself reading all of the Injustice comic books, playing through the story modes of Injustice 1 and 2 again, and then spending a lot of hours grinding out multiverse tournaments to level up Starfire. Injustice 2 is still good!
Yakuza: Like a Dragon - I've mentioned before that I bounced right of Yakuza 0 the two times I've tried to play it, but Yakuza 6: Like a Dragon kept my interest for a lot longer. I love the main character, he's so relatable and likable, and the turn-based combat is just more my speed than the beat-em up mechanics of the main series. I'm still probably only half-way through, but hope to get back to it at some point.
Fortnite - My most played game two years in a row was probably once again Fortnite. I put more hours into it than any other game on Nintendo Switch this year, and I definitely played it more on Xbox than Nintendo Switch? So I played it a lot, is what I'm saying. I mostly only played duos with my girlfriend—we both leveled up three battle passes past 100 in 2021, I think. I don't enjoy everything about Fortnite, but the amount of energy and resources they put in the game means that there's always something new, and that keeps us coming back.
Parasite Eve - I went on a real Parasite Eve kick this year. I played through the first game twice? I read a translation of the Japanese novel that the game is a sequel to? I don't know, in Pandemic Year 2 I got overwhelmed by the virus and obsessed on a weird story about mutant mitochondria and organ transplants gone wrong. I really want to make a nice long YouTube video about Parasite Eve, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Maybe in 2022.
Anyway, those are the big ones. Real quick, here's a list of games that came out in 2021 that I wish I'd gotten to, but didn't:
Boyfriend Dungeon
Nier Replicant
Returnal
Loop Hero
Sable
The Forgotten City
SMT 5
Psychonauts 2
Chicory
Life is Strange True Colors
Boomerang X
I guess that's what 2022 is for.
Like I said, 2021 was a weird year and a weird year for gaming. Weird couple of years. Hope 2022 is less weird. Or weird in the cool ways with cool games. There's some new games that might come out that I'm excited for (Breath of the Wild 2 and Starfield? Maybe?) and I have three handheld gaming consoles preordered that are supposed to land in my mailbox by the end of the year (Valve's Steam Deck, an Analogue Pocket, and that yellow console with the crank). Here's hoping there's all of that, less weird NFT things, and a whole lot less global pandemic.
Take care of each other, take care of yourself, and I hope you find the time and space to play some good games in 2022.

Twitter Stinky
oofI’m posting some of tweets of my alt twitter that I like here- since I’m emptying my timelines. Feeling a bit uncomfortable with the whole elongate situation. very stinky
Tumblr media
For me, a lot of these tweets were memories even if I didn’t use twitter that much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I still have not really used that camera. Feels bad man. I need to get over my anxiety.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ll probably replay miles morales somewhere later this year or next :) Trophy run for spiderman games before spiderman 2 comes out.
Tumblr media
that gif tho
Tumblr media
memento mori
Tumblr media
Wait- I played runescape last year? I forgot about that.
Tumblr media
Oh Wibble... Dearest. I miss her so much.
Tumblr media
My favorite tweet of all time haha. If I made more money this year I could invest in action figures again.. But eh, the economy sucks right now. Adopts don’t sell all that much.
Tumblr media
Ok this hurts. But its important for me to be able to remember stuff.
Tumblr media
I love her.
Tumblr media
I was pretty active in 2021 all things considered.
Tumblr media
I guess I am a gamer?
Tumblr media
Yes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I will get a nice case for all my figures should I ever get my own room or ‘’house’’ which will likely take 30 years if you look at the dutch housing market.
Tumblr media
This is actually good and informative for me. I feel sick everytime around august and september due the weather changes. I am dealing with still right now!! I’m recovering from it, AGAIN! Man!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I def want more marvel legends figures cuz theyre sturdier than sh figuarts and of course, more affordable.
Tumblr media
Bread got me feeling meh nowadays.
Tumblr media
I completed ps4 spiderman trophy run that year- i believe it was my first trophy run. My 2nd was horizon zero dawn. (Base games only, not dlc.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BABY MEEP
Tumblr media Tumblr media
all things considered 2021 was not my worst year. This year probably is.
Tumblr media
And yeah, while I don’t post about it lately- dissociative amnesia is something I deal with everyday. I posted very early on tumblr about it in detail if you want the post lemme know. also, i have cptsd not ptsd- rip. I’m actually doing much better than I did years ago, idk I have a handle on things nowadays.
Tumblr media
More spooder.
Tumblr media
Oh baby. I miss her purrs. I miss how affectionate and cuddly she was. Meepy is getting there, but these two pigs have different personalities compared to Mikki and Wibble.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m actually doing better socially this year.
Tumblr media
Man Meepy got really thicc LOL If you compare her to my recent posts.
Tumblr media
OH baby... Mikki was getting really old. I miss her.
Tumblr media
I sincerely doubt I’ll ever be able to save up that much for so long again, that was such a big achievement for me. Being able to spend so freely. This year I’ve mostly been looking into what hobbies to prioritize when I did have money available. When you’re young and were so used to barely having things- once you have access to that- you have a phase of impulsive spending or simply spending to make yourself happy because you suddenly could. I think a lot of people experience that at least once in their lives. Its like when you’re an adult you realize you can go out at 3 am and buy cake somewhere and eat it. I mean- it’s not a good choice but it made you happy. That matters.
Tumblr media
Now looking back, I doubt I was cryptic LOL.
Tumblr media
trash taste don’t like my trash taste though. I’m a big marvel fan. mcu has let me down lately unfortunately but its ok. I have comic books.
Tumblr media
..I need more of him :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think this was when I change my twitter nickname to ‘’your average gay nerd’’
Tumblr media
Amazing game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
she kinda big now
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
APPARENTLY when people lack limbs karens have the audacity to question it- there’s so many posts of people with prosthetics being made to take them off just to show Karens they are disabled LOL what a world we live in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
watch dc superpets its for everyone

Spotlight: “Run Away to You” Part 3
Tumblr media
You knew it was just a matter of time before someone figured it out.
Your carefully constructed reality was about to shatter.
Pairing: Min Yoongi x Former Actress!Reader
Word Count: 2.0K
Genre: Angst + Fluff (there’s a hug and everything there is fluff on the horizon!!)
Series Masterlist: Run Away to You
Premise: You ran away from your acting career one year ago, disappearing from the spotlight without a trace. No one from your past life knew where to find you. On the anniversary of your disappearance, your carefully constructed reality is shattered.
Part 2 // Part 4
---
You blinked your eyes a few times to adjust to the brightness of the morning as the sunlight streamed into your room through the crack in your curtains. Your eyelids felt heavy with exhaustion. Glancing at the clock on your nightstand, you let out an audible groan at the time. It was 9:30 a.m., meaning you had slept for four short hours, your brain and restless thoughts refusing to let you sleep until the early hours of the morning.
After you were finally able to stop the onslaught of tears last night, you sat with Marianne on your carpet and told her everything that happened: colliding with Yoongi at the corner store, the fight in your apartment, and how he comforted you during your panic attack. When she asked about the phone call from your old number, you simply played her the last voicemail Yoongi left you, letting his words sink in on their own.
“Shit,” Marianne breathed out.
“Tell me about it,” you agreed.
Your head was pounding, making you feel like you were suffering a hangover this morning from the lack of sleep combined with the many tears you cried. You went into the bathroom and turned on the shower, hoping the scalding hot water would burn away the memories of everything that had transpired.
You decided to avoid looking at either one of your phones, old or new, when you got out and dressed. Instead, you decided to try and convince your neighbor to let you take her dog on a walk. You desperately needed some company and fresh air to clear your head.
Donning the black hat on the hook by the door this time, you locked the door behind you. At the end of the hallway, you spotted your neighbor holding her little black pug in her arms, peering slightly over the railing at the end that looked out onto the sidewalk and street below.
“Hi there, good morning! What’s going on?” you asked, hoping your attempt at cheerfulness was convincing.
“You have to see this. There are cameras all over the place! The landlord had to come to shoo them from the stairwell and elevator this morning. Apparently, someone famous was sighted here yesterday, and now they’re looking for someone they say lives here? It’s quite the scene down there,” Susan let her pug down as she told you the news. He came bounding over to you, expecting to be showered with cuddles and kisses. Instead, you stood frozen in place, taking in everything Susan had just said.
“Cameras? There are cameras down there? In front of the building?” you asked.
“Yes, dear, isn’t that strange? I wonder if we have a celebrity in our midst!”
You let out a cough, giving Susan a fake excuse that you forgot a jacket so you could leave, ignoring her pug yapping at you for attention.
You were back in your apartment before Susan could question your odd behavior, grabbing your phone that you blatantly ignored when you woke up this morning.
You opened Twitter, going straight to the trending page.
The picture at the top of the list was blurry, but you could clearly make out two figures. It was a picture of you and Yoongi, walking to your apartment from the store. It looked like it had been taken on a phone camera, probably from the park across the street. Someone had to have recognized Yoongi, and now, there were cameras outside your apartment complex.
The picture causing a frenzy didn’t show your face, your hair covering your profile. You scrolled rapidly through some of the comments, people speculating about who the “mystery girl” was that Yoongi was with yesterday.
You knew it was just a matter of time before someone figured it out.
Your carefully constructed reality was about to shatter.
---
Yoongi’s phone was vibrating nonstop on the bed next to him. He tried to ignore it, shoving his face further under the thick comforter, hoping whoever was trying to reach him would just give up eventually.
When it started to vibrate incessantly once again, he finally glanced at the screen, fully prepared to yell at whoever woke him up.
An old picture of you filled his screen, one that Yoongi took when you first started seeing each other. You had fallen asleep on his shoulder after a long day of filming. You looked so at peace, one of his sweaters that you stole from his closet wrapped around your frame. He had snapped a photo, setting it as your contact photo, smiling at it every time you called.
He had never changed it.
Yoongi immediately sat up when he realized you were calling. He assumed he would never hear from you again, that the chapter between you two was officially closed. This time for good.
He answered on the third ring, but didn’t say anything, waiting to see if the call was an accident.
“…Yoongi?” his heart lurched at the sound of his name.
“Yes?” he asked tentatively, his voice rough with sleep.
“I need help. There’s a picture…of us. Together. I tried to call Marianne, but she didn’t answer. Yoongi, I…I don’t know what to do. I need help,” Yoongi waited, holding his breath, “I need you.”
He threw the covers off himself, already heading toward the door of his bedroom. You sounded so scared.
“I’ll come get you. Tell me where you are.”
---
Yoongi had given you careful instructions over the phone, his voice calm and calculated. You were supposed to wait in your apartment until exactly 10:30 a.m. and head down the back staircase to the alley behind your building. A car would be waiting for you there.
He told you to wear a mask and act casual, like you were just getting into a rideshare car. Be invisible and inconspicuous.
A black SUV was idling in your alleyway. You opened the backseat door on the driver’s side, shutting it quickly behind you.
“Miss Y/L/N?” the driver asked, turning around to face you. He had a kind smile, eyes slightly crinkling in the corners from his upturned lips. You nodded once.
“Good morning, I’ll be driving you to Mr. Min’s location. He requested that we send this particular vehicle because the windows are tinted for maximum security. Please make yourself comfortable.”
“Thank you,” you said, relieved.
Despite the driver’s assurance, you turned your head away from the window as the car passed the hoard of photographers outside of your building. They seemed to be getting restless with the lack of people coming in and out of your complex. You were grateful to be heading as far away from there as possible.
The car eventually reached a gate, the security guard waving the car forward once it checked the license plates. You pulled into an underground garage. You weren’t familiar with the building; you figured that Yoongi and the boys had moved within the last year as their label continued to grow.
The driver cleared his throat to get your attention.
“Mr. Min would like you to take the elevator, the one just there, ma’am,” he said pointing to the nearest set of silver doors, “to floor 16. He will meet you there.”
“Thank you, you honestly saved me today,” you told him with a grateful smile. He gave you another crinkle-eyed grin.
“It’s nothing, really. Give my regards to Mr. Min.”
“I will.”
The elevator lurched upward toward floor 16, and you realized you had no idea what to say to Yoongi. The doors opened, and you were startled when the man in question was pacing in front of the elevator doors, looking frazzled as he evidently waited for your arrival.
His head snapped toward the open doors when he heard the “bing” of the elevator.
“You made it,” he said simply when you walked toward him.
“Thanks to you,” you replied. “Yoongi, I can’t thank you enough. I know this is the last thing you probably expected today, but I appreciate it more than I can tell you.”
If you weren’t mistaken, there was a pink tinge on his cheeks at your words.
“We have a strategy meeting to get to. The label has some, uh, concerns about the photo.”
Your heart sank at his words, but you realized it was time to stop letting your emotions about the situation run the show. You were potentially going to be forced back into the spotlight you had tried so hard to stay away from. It was time to be professional about this.
“Right. Of course, lead the way,” your tone had become formal, sickly sweet and stiff. It felt unbelievably awkward after spilling your heart out to him yesterday. But you knew your place–you were just part of his label’s damage control problems for the day.
He turned on his heel, leading you down the long hallway, shoes clicking against the tile floor. You followed a foot behind him, wanting to give him, and you, space.
In the meeting, you gritted your teeth, your hands balled into fists underneath the table as you listened to a group of label management and the public relations team discuss what messaging, if any, to put out. Would it be better to let it die down on its own? Release a statement saying Yoongi was visiting an “acquaintance”? There were dozens of options they went through. Yoongi’s eyes kept straying to look at you, but your eyes stayed on the clock above the PR analyst’s head across from you.
When they started discussing whether to release your identity, however, you decided enough was enough. You stood, Yoongi watching your every move.
“Excuse me, ladies and gentlemen, but I would feel more comfortable if my publicist was contacted before any decisions are made regarding the release of my private information,” you had worked in this industry, too, and hell, you weren’t going to let these people dictate your life. “As you can imagine, this has the potential to have far-reaching consequences on my own livelihood. It would be best to take no further action until she is in this room with you. Otherwise, I will be forced to contact my attorney.”
The room was silent.
“Until then, I’ll take my leave. Thank you,” you left with a flourish, the adrenaline leaving you as soon as you made it into the hallway. You didn’t know where you were going, you just couldn’t stay still, your feet carrying you away from the room and the murmurs going on inside of it.
“Y/N, wait,” Yoongi called after you. You sped up, hoping there was a bathroom or something nearby that you could go hide in until Marianne showed up. “Stop walking,” Yoongi’s voice was stern.
You paused mid-step, turning to face him with a blank expression.
“Yes, was there an update from your strategy meeting since I left?” Yoongi rolled his eyes at your comment.
“Y/N, stop, I know what you’re doing. You’re shutting yourself off. I don’t blame you for standing up for yourself back there. But please don’t act like I wanted any part of that meeting,” Yoongi said, defending himself. Your confidence deflated slightly.
“Fine,” you flinched at how harsh you sounded. “I’m sorry. God, all I’ve said to you in the past 24 hours is ‘I’m sorry.’ And I am. I just…this is all…it’s a lot. I didn’t expect to see you again so soon, let alone under these circumstances.”
“My studio is a few floors below us. Come on, let’s get out of here while they figure it out,” Yoongi instructed. He walked past you, but you reached out, hand encircling his wrist to stop him. Your skin burned where it touched his.
“I wasn’t ready for any of this again. It’s all too much, too soon. If people find out who I am, my whole life will change, Yoongi. I-I don’t know if I can handle that.” Yoongi didn’t say anything, so you pulled your fingers away from his arm, expecting him to continue on his way to his studio.
Instead, he wrapped you tightly in his arms, pulling you close against him. He smelled like mint and coffee, and you closed your eyes at the familiarity of it, warmth blooming in your chest.
“It’ll be okay,” Yoongi mumbled, cheek pressed against the top of your head.
Enclosed in the comfort of his embrace, you decided to believe him.
