Toge we all know hes such a sweet misunderstood boy. We love him tho. He's definitely gonna have either the worst grades you've ever seen or he's gonna be in the deans list ( honours list? depends where ya'll at) we all know how he talks in ingredients, but that's not gonna stop him from having a bunch of friends that hang out around him just for his aura yk. He's gonna be the sweetest boy and he'll remind you of a little cat. His handwriting, it's gonna be so cute. i feel like he has little stars on the Is instead of the usual tittle. he writes small and slightly cramped but it is so easy to read. When writing essays i feel like he'll have so many pages of all these tiny tiny words. I think he's definitely got an affinity for the sciences and maths. I think that there would definitely be many people who would be interested in him romantically, but he's only going to have eyes for one person. ( maybe i'll write a fic abt that ( x reader maybe ) )

Maki Zenin

def a girl boss. so proud and pretty. I think she would be a jock like yuuji but man shes got some of the best grades you'll ever see. she's gonna be really intimidating to everyone when she first introduces herself in class, but that isn't going to stop a bunch of guys from going up to her and being rejected ( lmao at their pain) her handwriting i think, would be like close to calligraphy. She's so extra like megumi but special in her own way, like her z's would be crossed. I think that she would be quite good at drama and acting but her preference would be in musical theatre, and hell she's good at it.

Yuuta

quiet boy reborn. Man, he's gotta be the most awkwardest boy you're ever gonna know, but he's also very shy and kind. Would not hesitate to beat someone up if they've hurt his friend. personally, he would be the one i would like to be friends with. His grades are above average for someone who doesn't spend a lot of time studying, and his friends get so annoyed about that. His handwriting would be cute and childish, but still really neat. I think that his laptop background would be a collection of images of his friends, like him and rika when they were really young, and everyone else is several different locations. When you first see it you instantly know he's a really good friend, and would cherish everyone. Gotta paint his nails. idk but i would want to so badly

Nanami

he's practically the professor. Super serious, constantly asking questions and getting answers right. His exams results are like in the 99 percentile which is like insane. HE is so consistent with his grades, like damn bro what else you do with life?? He looks so tired and done with life half of the time or he's just sipping on his coffee. I think he drinks two cups of pure expresso in the morning and has a cup of tea for the rest of day, in his fancy little cup. His handwriting, i don't know how to describe it but it's like so extra. Definitely prioritises his handwriting over contents of notes but he does well either way.

Todo

you would never see him in class. He's got like some crazy excuses, but i swear you're not even aware he's in your class until you get paired up for something and he's like, "wanna meet up? if you get it wrong Im doing it myself" I think he would be so annoying to work with but like if you're friends with him he would actually be quite helpful. You would have no idea what his handwriting is like. He's never written a thing in his life for school and he's happy about that. He skips out on school a lot to go see the model meets like takada. No clue how he even passed high school if ur in uni together.

bro if i was in school or uni with this man i would instantly drop out. He's a fucking pain in the ass and i hate him sm rn. But i'm sticking to the head-cannon. His grades- probably pretty good, maybe like a genius or something but so irritating. His looks gain the attention of many girls, but his misogynistic and shitty personality pushes a lot of people away. He's a pain to work with for group projects, would totally run off and do the work himself and get everything wrong and blame everyone else for not doing anything when he wouldn't let you help. He's fine, but like not impressed with him. His handwriting would be old and traditional and if you live in japan, he would write in traditional Japanese. and practically no one knows what he's writing.

i got the highest grade possible for one of my philosophical essays but i dont even care. my professor told me in the feedback that my writing style is too complex, again. im so tired of it. i felt like i already intentionally made this essay extremely simple in wording but apparently i didnt. if i made it even simpler the idea simply wouldnt be able to translate. i literally had a huge paragraph talking abt why schools shouldnt strictly push analytic philosophy onto everyone over continental philosophy. the sentences are complex for a purpose. the point of philosophy isnt only writing fucking dry concepts but the emotional poetic nature that comes alongside it which simply isnt achievable when following the idea that the shorter the words and the lesser the amount of words used gets the point across supposedly more authentically. long complex words are necessary for rhythm, for emphasis, for accuracy. using multiple adjectives is important to getting the point across same to everyone with all the correct etymological connotations exactly in the way the author intended it. every connotation isnt always implicit for the reader even if it is for the author. the point of complex writing is to take the reader by the hand and on an emotional journey through metaphysical rooms in the mind. the point is the process itself not the overly simplified outcome. the feeling is an integral and irreplaceable part to philosophy. you cant grasp complex ideas fully without using fucking complicated language. analytic philosophy claims to be more concrete but logic and structure alone without experiencing the emotions cant possibly be concrete. philosophy needs the poetic part too, desperately, for accuracy. im tired. i came to uni so i wouldnt have to baby everyone through my ideas because the audience i am writing to are LITERAL SPECIALISTS in the field. i am aware that SOMETIMES i can go too far with the complex sentence structures and its fair but a lot of the times its literally necessary. the professors or peers never even fucking tell me what exactly should be different or how i could change it. how am i supposed to work on it if idk what to work on. if i knew or agreed that my writing is clumsy and complex i wouldnt fucking write like this. it feels literally so bizarre, as if i am living a diff reality to others. how is it fucking possible that i SIMPLY cant see what everyone else around me sees in my writing. their generally suggested style of writing is what i usually perceive as clumsy not mine. i dont get it. i dont want my writing to be stripped of any fucking personality just to please people who fucking cant grasp complex ideas. im sorry i know i should write for the reader but i cant fucking change my expression that much either. i tried SO HARD to change it in this essay but apparently its still too complicated. if i went any further it wouldnt simply be my writing anymore bc its so deviated from my original style and ideas. the complicated structures also give access to the complicated ideas. fuck idk. im sorry i know its not that bad and im overreacting but this kind of feedback is driving me insane. i keep getting it and i try to change but i just cant. my f brain just works differently idk. i feel helpless.

hi!!! i personally really enjoy talking abt my academic (+professional) career & i am so honored that you would come to me for any type of advice omg!!! i will say that being young comes with a lot of bouts of insecurity; when i went to my original university, i admittedly didn't have much school spirit or even pride for it. i chose it because i got a full ride academic scholarship to attend, and once you're in college, you realize just how EXPENSIVE the Real World actually is, and so, even though my first university didn't necessarily come with a lot of "prestige" (even kids back home didn't wanna go there LOL), it was a very smart decision for me to attend there because i graduated with my bachelor's, high honors, with no debt!!

i also used to be obsessed with the prestige of schools, and as i look into phd programs, i suddenly am transported back to when i was younger + worried about how a school name would look on my final transcript or resume. the truth is, prestige doesn't guarantee you much.

i will say that certain universities and colleges can help you network, but it doesn't really matter if those relationships are shallow, right? we (and profs you have) aren't going to be so inclined to help you out with 100% enthusiasm if they don't really know you too well, right? so for me, even though the first university i attended was honestly kind of crappy, i decided to make the best of it! professors are humans too, and it's hard for them (esp during freshman & sophomore classes) to connect with students, and most students aren't going to want to put forth the effort to have a relationship with them. i made it an effort to introduce myself to a select few profs, i would attend office hours, i would make a point to engage during lectures, etc. i basically stood out from my peers, and in the long run, that has helped greatly, esp when it came time for me to turn in letters of recommendation for grad school. my "deeper" relationships that i spent a semester (or several semesters; the college was small and i had the same profs for several classes lol) cultivating paid off bc i had spectacular, personalized letters of rec that probably would have been harder for me to obtain had i attended a "prestigious" school where im certain a bunch more students would be vying for the prof's attention OR the professor would be too busy with their own workload and research to really be attentive to me.

while at the "crappy" university i attended for undergrad, i managed to secure two internships, one w/ jp morgan. lots of interns never heard of my school, and believe it or not, with the ivy league students i interacted with, they either knew the same amount or even less of what was going on than i did. they go to great colleges, fantastic schools, have been attending private feeder schools that would land them at these prestigious schools i'm sure you're looking at, and the fact of the matter is, it's not like everyone who attends there is a genius. when i was younger, i thought that the school you attend is directly associated with how smart you are, but that is def not the case. never, ever, ever question your intelligence if the school you want doesn't accept you. it's so corny, but rejection really IS redirection.

what i really want you to realize is that a good college is purely dependent upon YOU, as a student. form genuine connections with your profs (these relationships might come in handy; not just for grad school, but i've had several profs actually come to me with internship AND post-grad job opportunities with their friends' companies), be active and engaged on campus (join a club, do community service; if you do join a club, though, it is best to have a leadership role within it), consider asking a close prof if you can be a teaching assistant, approach your classmates confidently and be friendly to them, work hard!!! undergrad is fantastic for figuring out or getting an idea of what you want to do in the future!!! i was 16 when i started college full-time & i just picked a major (accounting) where i thought i could get a job with it LOL. nearly 5 years + one degree later, i figured out that working in industry wasn't for me & that i much prefer academia haha!!! try out a little bit of everything; i'm starting my fourth internship pretty soon, and honestly, you don't know what you don't like until you actually try it out.

i hope you have the greatest college experience of your life! when we're young, the silly stuff doesn't seem so silly (re: the prestige of the school you attend), but it's ok! because no one expects us to have perspective when we're young lol. just know that no matter where you go, make an effort to make the best of it :)

edit: some success stories!!! my undergrad aka what i considered to be a tier below community college (nothing wrong with cc either!!!); many of my classmates have went on to attend "prestigious" colleges for their own phd programs :) one of my close friends completed her undergrad in biology and is attending a private college for a phd; one of the colleges i'm looking at!!! my other friend works full-time at goldman sachs, which is proof that you don't need a columbia degree in finance to get in LOL. so, finding good opportunities is possible no matter where you end up attending <3

Any Pokémon anime thoughts? Ik you haven’t watched all the series yet but I’d love to hear ur thoughts on what you think ash is up to since his anime series ended and idk general animeverse hcs. I remember you had an au abt ash opening a Pokémon sanctuary and I’d love to hear more abt it if you have more thoughts and ideas related to it

Btw what series have you watched or have knowledge abt outside of xy just for future ref bc I know u haven’t watched bw yet so I’ll hold off on my Burgundy rambling until you do so you can have some context.

Admittedly I have only watched a part of the very original series and a quarter of the XY series (Mainly because I've been watching Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal) So a lot of my knowledge of the series as whole is limited to what's fresh in my mind and whatever my brain death gripped from middle school. I'm working on it however! Honestly XY is your best bet to get convos about cause its my comfort generation but I think after XY I wanna watch Journeys or the SUMO anime (I like the artstyle)

But! I do have thoughts about where Ash and Co. are and what they're up too despite this.

I do remember talking about Ash either becoming a Professor or opening a sanctuary. Iirc it's because of how frequently Ash is willing to risk his life to save Pokémon. I stand by this idea. I think after he's satisfied with being a trainer taking on gyms and participating in Leagues he returns to Kanto to form a Sanctuary with the help of Sammy Oak, Brock, and Misty. (Unrelated but I wonder if Prof. Oak ever tells Ash that he was that kid he made friends with. I'm a huge Pokémon 4ever fan LOVED that movie as a kid).

I can see Ash calling his pals in other regions for help on this project. Some of his friends are specialists in certain Pokémon types or (Like in the case of Clermont and the aforementioned Brock) certain fields. Brock being a breeder can help Ash make habitats that are the best suited to house and rehabilitate Pokémon. Clemont could make Inventions that could both assist the Pokémon and/or the staff (by this point I'd like to think he's experience enough to keep most of his inventions from exploding prematurely).

I like to think that the goal of the sanctuary is rescuing Pokémon and rehabilitating them. Either to be released back into the wild, help with scientific studies, or to be adopted by trainers. We know that in the canon of the series there are abusive or negligent trainers as well as Pokémon that are difficult to raise or picky about the trainers they take too. I think Ash is the best at handling those kinds of Pokémon given his Charmander and his Froakie.

I can see the building being used like a trainer school. New trainers can attend classes to learn the basics of battling or even just Pokémon husbandry. There's a lot of little things to the world of Pokémon. What food is best for your partner, what berries help what conditions, what to pack for a journey, how to read a map, how to use your equipment, what to do in Pokémon encounters, ect. Maybe a retired professor oak teaches there. Maybe brock and Misty make special appearances to teach classes.

In my mind Bonnie is one of the first people to attend. Finally old enough to start her journey without her brothers supervision and eager to get started. Of course she's there with Dedenne her partner Pokémon and maybe a newly caught Pokémon pal (I think Clemont deserves to help bonnie with her very first official catch) that she excitedly shows Ash.

A retired rocket grunt James is hired there because lets be real James is also super compassionate towards Pokémon and if he doesn't get to live the rest of his life happily raising (and reclaiming his Pokémon from Giovanni) then I'm going to riot. I feel like that's one of his very first goals. rescuing Pokémon from Giovanni and finally reuniting with Growlie.

As for Jessie. I think she too is down to get her Pokémon back from Giovanni. But once that's settled I like to think she goes back to Kalos to continue performance. I always liked that she was a talented performer. And maybe even returns to studying nursing.

Meowth I don't think would like sticking around the Sanctuary all day despite how great of an asset he is given he's basically bilingual. So instead he ends up traveling with Bonnie and Max (the siblings of Ash's friends going on a journey together is the coolest idea to me). Meowth I think would enjoy the traveling. This time he doesn't have any evil plots to carry out and isnt 'blasting off again' every other day so this time he can really take it all in. He doesn't 'belong' to either kid but he's there to help keep them safe as they get a footing on traveling without their older siblings. Plus if the sanctuary needs him to play translator Ash or one of the staff can contact him he knows how to use a phone.

In a similar vein to Bonnie and Max travel companions I think Bonnie makes proper friends with Lyn (the girl who's bag got mixed up with hers). That's slightly unrelated but I love that episode.

I have a ton of thoughts about this Idea. Its not one that I think about often but when mentioned my brain runs wild and I can only imagine how far this pseudo Future au can expand as I see more characters

(Honorable mentions Because I love them but Trevor would become a professional Photographer, Shauna is a long standing Kalos Queen who's about to step down to try something new, and Tierno does successfully beat a league before switching his focus onto dancing but still battles for fun)

in response to your post about educators, its kind of like the argument on professors (college/uni) and that a lot of them dont actually know? or care much about how they teach their students simply because their main job is supposedly, to research. but if you're in a classroom with students, where you have to educate them on the research you've made, why shouldn't you at least be better about how you provide that information to your students? if you're only good at research but you can't teach, are you really a professor at a school?

idk man this is why you have good teachers and bad teachers. teachers that can teach their students=good and teachers that can't teach their students=not so good. i feel like schools gotta do better about who they hire to teach their students but obviously thats not gonna happen lmao

Cater has much more in common with prince Hans than with Cinderella

a.k.a: I gave a random tought too much power now y'all should suffer with me.

Okay so A very popular theory for Cater is that he is twst stand in for Cinderella so first I think I need to explain why I don't think Cater is Cinderella first.

So the Cinderella theory centers itself in the idea that Cater's sisters are mean to him just like Cinderella's stepsisters are mean to her. Supplementary information is the fact that Riddle has to save Cater before the 12 am in the Halloween event (haven't read that one yet) and I've also seen the take that Cater is actually the blessing the faery godmother gives Cinderella (a lot of helpers, a dress to hide herself (like a mask to hide her true self)) just like Silver is the blessing/curse sleeping beauty received and not sleeping beauty herself.

This theory doesn't really make Cater fit cleanly in the rol of Cinderella. Firstly Cater's sisters aren't really cruel to him anymore, don't get me wrong they did a lot of damage to his mental health but Cater himself says that they are being more mindful of what he really wants to do instead of insisting on doing what they want. And while it is true that one of Cinderella's sister received a redemption that was after Cinderella got her happy ending, something Cater has not achieved yet.

He also doesn't work like the blessing of Cinderella, because it's a blessing? like silver's make sence bc it is both a blessing AND a curse.

All characters attending NRC are in some capacity antagonistic to the heroes in their original tales. Yes, even Kalim even tho he entered bia nepotism, the sultan was an obstacle Aladdin had to overcome so it makes sense he is here.

No metter if you believe Cater is the blessing or Cinderella himself it doesn't make sense for him to be in NRC and not Niege's school RSA

Okay so like with that out of the way, please put on your tin foil hats and proceed to listen to me and my prince Hans theory.

In case you don't have Prince Hans from Forzen living rent free in your brain like I do here is what you need to know:

Hans is not from the same country as the rest of the main characters

He doesn't feel at home in his home

His family was very neglectful bc he was the youngest

He changes personalities to fit the people he is talking to (so he wears a mask to hide his true feelings)

First We know that contrary to the rest of the Heartslabyul dorm Cater is not from the Queendom of roses but from the shaftlands, although with how much he traveled he doesn't know anyone in the shaftlands (or like any place to be honest) And he himself has said he doesn't feel he had a place to call home before he entered NRC.

We don't exactly know if Cater's parent were emotionally neglectful of him but at the very least we know the favored his sisters above him growing up

I dont really have to explain the masking his true feeling and changing personalities to fit right? Almost everything Cater has ever done is for others to care about him and remember him even when he leaves but that never happens

Also "love is an open door" fits very well with Cater, the song is considered by many as Hans's villian song (since he doesn't really have a solo song rip 💔)

It also fits thematically? Frozen is about how shutting your emotions and true feelings is never the solution to your problems, only when you learn to really on other you can begin to heal.

Like it's not a perfect fit either, idk what the deal is with the sisters or abt Cater's unique magic (if I had to guess it could be a reference to the changing way Hans acts in the movie???) but idk this was fun

TLDR: 9 years later I'm still salty Hans didn't get a redemption arc and I'm projecting him into Cater, also read my theory cuz I had to rewatch Frozen for this 😔

some ramblings for kyuu and NRC, specifically on how NRC is a school for villains

this was honestly really fun to write and I wrote so much more than intended. I promise i’ll get around to writing more on kyuu and leona once i’ve splurged out all the lore i want for kyuu rn :D

yk i havent said it here but like, NRC is a school full of villains essentially right, it’d be pretty weird to slap some wholesome and pure-hearted person into NRC- especially when RSA exists lmao

idk i was thinking abt it and yeah, yuusonas and just yuu characters in general are the expection to this cause theyre arent at NRC by choice or really fit in with the rest of the boys in “evilness”

oh also- kyuu here, while I list him as a sona for myself, isnt really the most accurate representation of myself, I put on a lot of negative aspects on him and we certainly wouldn’t act the same way. So maybe listing him as an oc/sona would be far more accurate. He’s based off of me, but I develop him as his on character- using myself for reference. (For when I talk about it: I do not condone bullying and it makes me really uncomfortable to even witness it, empathy ig? i dont really understand it myself, but yeah, that part specifically is purely made for Kyuu and why he’s an NRC boy)

so i present some of the stuff that makes Kyuu an NRC student :)

To him its kinda everyman for himself, he’ll help if its reachable and fairly easy for him, or that person has some great significance to him (aka emotionally important or like, powerful ppl he wants to be on the good side of). But otherwise, he’ll leave that person to just kinda suffer-he’ll offer condolences and be on his way. He’s tries to stay on good terms with Azul for that reason, it’s real easy to pull strings when you’re friends with someone like that, even just a name drop of the tweels or Azul might intimidate some people. He’s never signed a deal but he does work part-time at the Mostro Lounge. He’s incredibly self-sufficient to the point where he will allow himself to sink and refuse to make a peep to others. Professor Trein is basically the only exception- and that took a lot of pondering to take the chance. 

He’s cold, not just in appearance from his resting face, but if he doesn’t know you, theres a good chance he’ll never bother talking to you. Hell he doesn’t like getting involved in stuff like bullying, either being the bully or preventing it- to him it’s free entertainment, the only exception is underclassmen he particularly likes or if they’re in the Equestrian Club with him. Catching Floyd or Jade on a hunt for a student might just make it to his most memorable moment of the day, It’s a bore when all the kids are the same type of roughhousing and mean. His social bubble is small and restrictive- which is why getting such a severe crush on Leona was so significant. If he wanted any type of closure or chance it would force him to interact and actually try to be nice and active with people he doesn’t care about to make some connections. He met Ruggie that way, and while Ruggie saw through him immediately, it definitely worked on other Spelldrive Club members (ahem Epel). Though nowadays he’s far more involved with the first years, he actually tutors (attempts to) Deuce and Ace, and any of the other first years when they need help, so that relation with Epel became a lot more genuine than before. 

Getting into a relationship with Leona didn’t really change much for him, besides the whole independency thing. A brief side note-I find it really unbelievable that overblots don’t have some sort of intense recovery period, which for my purposes I say they do. Even after a week or two you still feel the effects of the blot, maybe even a physical manifestation of blot, throwing it up or choking on it at its worst. Kyuu and Leona got together a mere days after Leona overblotted, it was a moment of fear for Kyuu- Kyuu being amongst the crowd when it happened, and Leona being pretty emotionally vulnerable afterwards and was forced to admit and re-confront lifelong doubts and pains. Leona ended up needing to do check-ups in the infirmary, having to stay a night when the blot afterwards had surged back and Ruggie forced him to actually get help. Kyuu ended up visiting the infirmary at the time, and well, they confessed. (This is something I’ll probably write about later, especially how I think it would go from Leona’s side bc I think that’s interesting lmao.) This, quite frankly, is a pretty awkward way to start a relationship. It took a lot of time to truly get comfortable around each other and begin to open up emotionally. Bringing this back around to how it changed Kyuu’s whole sever emotional independence, they were close enough that it made Kyuu actually talk. Leona doesn’t pry or force more out of Kyuu than necesarry- and that helps so much in making him feel like he can drop it into conversations (where appropriate of course.) That pressure of making it feel like it’s a big deal is crippling to him.

okay but like a serious question. how do people with anxiety not fail their classes where the attendance and also speaking is necessary, like seminars (idk this stuff and definitions and terms may differ based on where youre from). like in order to pass this subject in uni, many subjects, attendance is necessary and discussing too but i literally am so anxious that in like 4 weeks ive attended 3 lectures total. ive left the house for school 3 times in 4 weeks, i have lectures almost daily and multiple ones as well. i do my hw and reading and shit but i cant force myself to go. i feel odd talking to my professor abt it too bc thats like a very unfair condition if he just let me like not take part of the lectures at all?? and others had to.. i guess i could ask him to make the class available on zoom for me bc that would make it easier as for attendance for the lecture but not the seminar part bc thats also like weird i wouldnt speak then either bc im the only one on the speaker when others are there irl.. in general how the fuck do people w body dysmorphia as well like leave the house and manage to go to school and maintain jobs??? I’m taking a Disability Rights class right now, and we’re discussing Box v Planned Parenthood and the morality of disability-selective abortion. My professor refers to this as a eugenics issue, and I’m uncomfortable w that bc it feels to me like he’s ignoring abortion as its own issue and right. Idk do you have thoughts on this? I just feel like he’s making abortion a battleground for a separate issue.

Ah, there's always some reason to deny a woman an abortion, isn't there? You can have one, sure, but not if the fetus is too big, and not if it's female, and not if it has down syndrome or a minor physical disability or a major physical disability, and not if the clinic's hallways are too small or your doctor doesn't have admitting privileges to the local catholic hospital or you're a teenager and your mom hasn't given her consent. I feel similarly about restrictions on ability-selective abortions (is that a term?) as I do those on sex-selective abortions: they shouldn't exist and anyone who thinks they should is a misogynist. There is no MORAL way to require that a woman stays pregnant against her consent. Women cannot commit eugenics within their own bodies; women's bodies are not the location of political progress, certainly not against their own wills.

Now, I have heard many arguments about why a woman should be entitled to withdraw consent to residence within her body from a disabled ZEF due to circumstances not the fault of the woman in question (that it is not individual women's faults that they will lack the financial and social support needed to raise a disabled child, for instance) but I am frankly tired of making arguments that quietly allow nonconsensually obligating a woman to pregnancy and birth as an acceptable background reality. That is literally always the single most horrifying aspect of any argued abortion restriction, regardless of what population that restriction supposedly protects. However, I am also very practical in general, so, a though exercise:

If ability-selective abortion (I made it a term) is a eugenics issue, then this is not just a conversation about morality, it's a conversation about legal discrimination, and if we agree that it is a eugenics issue then we must agree that something must be done legally to restrain women from literally committing eugenics. How would your professor choose to structure a law to achieve this? How would this law discern between women who wanted an abortion due to a disability diagnosis, and women who wanted an abortion incidental to a disability diagnosis? What about women who could have gone either way before the diagnosis tipped the scale? What about disabilities that are Incompatible with Life diagnoses, or convey an extremely shortened and painful lifespan? What would he do if conservative states cottoned on and started requiring that all women considering abortion must receive a full work-up and wait until the 20 week anatomy scan so that disabled fetus could then be identified and protected from their cruel mothers?

Here's another: if refusing to grow and birth a disabled child is immoral, why isn't refusing to conceive a disabled child with a disabled man? Eugenics encompasses a huge range of behaviors meant to decrease the heritability of "undesirable" traits, and surely if individual women terminating pregnancies is eugenics, then individual women refusing to have sex with disabled men (god help her if, raised in an ableist society, she does actually think disabled people are kind of gross) is as well. It's no secret that disabled people often have more challenging romantic lives and I'm sure this indirectly limits the proliferation of many disabilities on its own; it is probably fine to assign women to sleep with disabled men to ensure that all genes get a fair shot.

You may think I am being a bit flip and cruel. I'm sure you are an extremely kind and thoughtful person who probably feels a little grody about the choice to abort a child because its physiology would be too burdensome (I do too) even though it sounds like you also have a strong conviction about the right to abortion (same here!). Let's take away the aether of theory.

Several months into my job as an abortion educator and more than a year ago at this point, I had a patient to educate. I remember her name, but I'll call her D. D was an extremely kind woman slightly older than my usual patient population with three children and one prior aborted pregnancy in her teens. She presented to me several months pregnant, at around 19 weeks. I did not ask why she was choosing abortion, but, like a lot of my patients, she told me anyway. She was a single mother and money was tight, her youngest was in middle school and she didn't want to start all over, she found out late and was a smoker, and she'd had a bad breakup with the father of the pregnancy. Oh, and she had seen her OB and found out it was a boy and she'd always wanted a daughter but DEFINITELY didn't want a fourth son. Uh oh. Who's to say whether D would have actually wanted to birth and parent a fantasized female fetus, what with her income and her health and her other children's ages and the father being a douche (I hear all the time, oh, I would have, but it's not the right time), but sex-selective abortion is illegal in the state of Illinois. I carefully investigated. Are you sure you would have kept a daughter? Even with everything else? She was adamant- yes, but it is what it is. Whoops. I consulted the MD; too risky to let it slide, what if she was an auditor or a pro-lifer? The penalty is liability for wrongful death. D was turned away for her abortion, with just a month to go before she hit the legal limit to receive one in the state. I slipped her a brochure for another clinic, and quietly instructed her why, with a defensible suggestion to leave that part out of her next counseling session.

HB0282, the law that required me to refuse D healthcare, also prohibits abortion due to disability diagnosis.

Sirius just hummed in response, picking at the laces on his not-dress-code-approved boots. The image of Remus punching Thomas flooded back into his mind and he felt his throat grow tight. Sure, Remus punched Thomas, got him pretty good, too, but Remus probably thought Sirius was a whore now. There was no chance that Remus could love him now, not when those godforaken rumors finally reached his ear. Gods, the whole fucking school had to have heard by now and they were all going to think—

“Sirius?”

He looked up to see McGonagall looking at him, one thin eyebrow raised in question.

“I’m sorry, did you ask me something?” He asked, feeling heat rise to his cheeks.

“I asked if you’ve been experiencing any other harassment as of late?”

Sirius stared at her, the words on the tip of his tongue.

Stephen Perry cornered me in the locker rooms after the Quidditch game asking if my ass was as good as everyone says it is. Abram Defreis tried to stick his hands down my pants while we were making out and told everyone he had succeeded even though he hadn’t. Both Richie Wadsworth and Quentin Dall said I blew them behind the hidden tapestry in the cooridors and Thomas Greenway has been harassing me all week trying to get me to sleep with him and now the whole school thinks I’m a whore because I rejected him and he lashed out.

“No,” he said instead, his stomach feeling sick, “not really. I guess Thomas just got a little upset.”

McGonagall stared at him for a long moment, a look of disbelief and concern on her face before she finally nodded.

“Okay. But Sirius? If you ever need to talk to someone or expirience anything like this —whether it happened in the past or not—my door is open.”

Sirius nodded once, a few tears finally escaping his eyes before he stood and exited the room.

It was a few days later that Sirius found himself back in McGonagall’s office. After talking with both James and Remus, they had insisted that he tell their head of house the whole truth as to what was going on. He had refused vehemently for awhile, but he finally had to cave when Lance Yearsley pushed him up against the library books and stuck his tongue down Sirius’ throat after claiming that “he wanted his turn before the Gryffinwhore became too loose.”

Ms Pince had heard the books Sirius had been holding fall to floor as he tried to push Lance away and quickly split them up once she reached them, sending a very angry Lance to Dumbledore and a very distraught Sirius to Professor McGonagall.

So there he sat, in her office with tears stains on his cheeks and tea that had gone cold sitting in front of him. He wished that Remus was there. Remus had been so comforting the past few days. Ever since Sirius realized that his feelings were reciprocated and that Remus in fact did not think he was a whore, they decided to test the waters as boyfriends and Sirius couldn’t remember being so happy in his life.

Both Remus and James had been wildly protective and even Peter had made sure to stick close to Sirius so that no one would try anything, and Sirius thought he was safe. Safe enough to go the library alone to get a few books.

Apparently he was wrong.

“I don’t know how it escalated.” Sirius finally said. McGonagall had been waiting patiently for him to breach the subject, not wanting to pressure him, but needing the truth all the same. “Sure, I’ve kissed a few blokes but...I haven’t...I don’t know why it’s become this.”

It felt like some sick joke. Like everyone decided to target him because why? Because he was proud of who he was? Because he was an openly gay pureblood? Because he was disowned from his family so there were no consequences to messing with him? Sirius couldn’t figure out which one it was, but either way, he felt fucking dirty.

“Sirius,” McGonagall said, “I need you to tell me as much as you can about who has been doing this to you and what has been done to you.”

And so he does. He tells her everything. About Stephen, Abram, Richie, Quentin, Thomas and Lance and how he doesn’t feel safe being alone anymore, how he is practically attached to James’ hip during Quidditch practice and how he waits to leave class with Peter or Lily so he’s not walking the halls alone and how he cries himself to sleep in Remus’ arms because he hates what he’s become in peoples minds. He tells her everything.

By the end, he’s in tears, but he feels so much lighter. And the angry but determined look on McGonagall face is reassuring as she pulls him into a tight hug.

“I promise you that I will have it all taken care of. You do not have to be scared here, Sirius, not while I’m around. If you have any trouble at all—for anything—tell me and I will see that it is taken care of.”

And Sirius felt like he could finally breathe.

However most of them state their reasons for joining the fight

Daruk wants to protect ppl- in his cutscene I think he says he’s a hero who can’t back down from Hyrule’s need or something

Urbosa also wants to protect her ppl and more specifically Zelda

Mipha is looking to protect Sidon and Link and the zora

And revali is mad that ppl think links a better warrior (and they’re right) but rlly- revali wants to prove his value (he has some repressed confidence issues) and protect the rito

And when the next gen show up and the blights promptly beat them up they all have that one cutscene before Link jumps in where they give that brief “You’re my sister I won’t let you die again” speech

Riju and Urbosa have that cutscene before the Vah naboris battle which is abt her inquiries to being cheif

Teba wants to save revali and help Link because he perceives a debt he owes Link and idolizes revali- he also wants to protect his son- so if he did die that would be the major impact there

Right but firstly, the reason for joining the fight, or as often referred to in “official writing terms” as the “call to adventure,” isn’t inherently motivation, and it most blatantly isn’t stakes. I think you confused the definitions a bit with Mipha and the New Gen Champs specifically. And secondly none of these things (ok some of them, but most of them) don’t actually hold any weight, they’re either pretty forgettable, or developed lazily, or nonexistent.

Ok so to that first point, you’re confusing stakes and motivation with something called “the call to adventure.” Ok so here’s a little educational lesson for you so that you can tell your friends and family that tumblr is actually helping your brain or something.

In the 1950s, Joseph Campbell published a little book called “The Hero With A Thousand Face” and if you have taken any literature or writing class ever you probably already know what’s happening here. In this book, he depicts “The Hero’s Journey” which is basically a breakdown of every story ever, like you could this outline of a story to basically any media every, from Hunger Games, to Mario, to Homestuck probably idk I’ve never read it. But basically The Hero’s Journey is a breakdown of how basically every story ever is made, and writers have been using it ever since to analyze pacing and structure and writing their own stories and all that.

I will not even ATTEMPT to explain it in full because I am no professor or official sounding youtuber so just go to one of them if you’re really curious.

Anyhow, the part that matters is the Call to Adventure, because, as just demonstrated, it is often mistaken for stakes.Call to Adventure is the instigation of the plot, AKA the different character desires to protect their people, because that’s a plot point that happens before they delve into the “unknown” world and happens much before the threshold of the story. So while those aspects motivate characters or force them to accept the Call to Adventure, it usually needs to later manifest into an entirely separate desire because while characters can share similar goals and calls to adventure they need uniquie characterization to that their journies feel distinct and that’s the entire point of making a story impactful and ugh I was like halfway through writing this but I got tired because I just realized I need to explain the distinction between the Hero’s Journey and a character arc if I want to explain my point fully so just here have a mushroom

Question for the q&a: Do you have any authors that have influenced your writing?

oh god DEFINITELY. there's some specific ones out there where i've looked at their writing and went "wow, i'm taking your writing style" but it's mostly published book authors? there are obvi some fma fic authors that've inspired me tho! putting this under a read more for yalls sanity

1. definitely stephen king! i mentioned it in the notes for chapter 14 of hölle but around that time i read the shining and i was in LOVE. there were specific things you could probably nitpick and go "wow that seems kind of new" at in that chapter and that would be because i pretty much.. looked at the writing in there and got Super Inspired.

when i was writing hölle it was my first Big Fic (patent pending) and i did NOT have a consistent writing style. like. at all. 90% of it was me improving my writing skills as i went and actually getting used to writing fics??? hence a lot of.. hiatus time and...... not very good scheduling or drafting.......... ...

so when i read the shining i went (!!!) BECAUSE I WAS FIXATING ON IT SUPER HARD like. watching the obscure MINI-SERIES hard. i still kind of am but i specifically noticed the way king seemed to exaggerate thoughts in a very specific way

and i RAN with that. this specifically shows in holes and i thought it worked pretty well for the genre

at the time??? also especially apt because i like. literally just reread the shining. like i finished the day i wrote holes chapter 3 and that's why it was more heavy theme-wise i think???? BUT EITHER WAY stephen king's writing (particularly in the shining) inspired me a hell of a lot!

2. john boyne! i reread the boy in the striped pajamas recently and. BOY i am so sad still. definitely wasn't as influential writing-wise but theres small influences here and there? specifically in the way i structure sentences i think & GOD how i love the ending of that book. like. it drives me to tears every time

whenever i reread the ending of the book i think of how STRONGLY it was written? like. the words were really impressing and strong and i kind of wanted to mimic that in my writing whenever the mood fit and i can really only think of the time being where i utilized that being the ending of holes? i don't really like the ending sentences of the fic itself but i remember thinking about skimming over the epilogue again when it came to writing the last bit

3. william shakespeare is super fucking funny to put on here but like. i'm currently taking pre-college classes and we reread romeo and juliet and some other sonnets that he wrote and ive like. never recovered since lmao

i can't state THAT much that i drew from him because i have brainfog from the entire past year but i remember the class heavily focused on refreshing us on poetry? like. we went over the old freshman year poets (edgar allen poe was also pretty "!!! urge to write !!! but wow hes kinda fucked up!!!!!!!!" tho specifically /w the raven and annabel lee when it came to me writing) and despite how incoherent that sentence sounds idk there was just SOMETHING abt that entire course that made me want to start writing a lot the professor was just super good i loved her come home 💔

4. OKAY SO FOR FMA FIC AUTHORS. i've read a LOT of fics (like ive been through the entire parental roy and edling tags consecutively) so it's.. very hard to keep track... ... there're a few that definitely stand out tho!

* alightintheshadows i remember specifically being like. one of the first fma fic authors i read from and their stuff is GREAT. someone please tell me if they have a tumblr because i want to gush about their content so bad it's so good but like. i think they're what got me INTO writing fma fics in the first place? especially horror/plot-heavy stuff like that? i first read the cult on ff.net and i would NOT shut up about it for like. a week. i got super excited when their fics came over to ao3 and im pretty sure you can still see them quite a bit in my rec bookmarks

* DEFINITELY @liathgray i love cece so much they're so nice and i'm glad i've gotten to talk to them it's unreal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think they're one of the authors who actually made me actually go "oh. wow the fandom is still alive!!!" when i was going thru ao3 after i watched both fmas last summer because i'm.. pretty sure giants in the forest was still going on iirc? that fic's definitely what dragged me into the hyperfixation and interacting /w the fandom super hard lol

also i just REALLY like blackwell springs????? can we talk about blackwell springs because blackwell springs is my SHIT.

like i get that these r all probably common picks for author inspos but i remember also being around for it when it first came out -> the end and i loved it sm and i got so excited EVERY time it updated. like i would liveblog it to my boyfriend or read it really fast half-asleep before driving to class and i'd shove it into his FACE. 90% sure that fic's what either struck me to write hölle or keep writing it (i can't remember when it originally came out???) but i really need to get on reading whatever series capra's part of even tho i don't particularly like crossover stuff bc i see it Everywhere and it looks so good
