hi hi hi can I request a little something for owen?? you take the kids you nanny or like little cousins to watch him practice and he makes a comment about your future family together ?
PETER TO MY GWEN
tw: kids
your next-door neighbor often had to work late nights, so she hired you as her unofficial babysitter, and you were more than glad to help you.
she had two kids, an older girl named aria, and a younger boy named jasper. they were good kids and loved coming over to your apartment cause you would give them ice cream after dinner (with their mother's permission), and they loved your dog.
you and owen were hanging out on your couch, having just come back from a movie. there was a knock at your door, and you got up to answer it.
"hi, kara." you smiled.
"hi, y/n. i hate to do this, cause i know owen's over, but can you watch aria and jasper? just till around 10? something urgent came up at work." she looked tired.
"yes, of course." you nodded.
"all right. thank you so much." she looked relieved as she looked down at her kids, "be good for y/n."
"we will." aria smiled, flashing her two missing front teeth.
"we always are." jasper added, running into your apartment and hugging your leg.
she smiled at you once more, before she rushed off back to her apartment and grabbed her stuff. you closed your door as both kids ran off to find your dog cherry.
owen got off the couch, "i'm sorry. i know this is some of the only time we get to spend together." you smiled sadly.
"no, it's totally fine. don't apologize. i can help." he offered.
"you sure?"
"yeah." he nodded.
after a long night, after their normal bowls of ice cream and lots of cherry cuddles, jasper and aria had fallen asleep, their heads in your laps as you watched tv.
"when we have kids," that caught your attention, and you turned to look at him, "a boy and a girl, their names'll be gwen and noah."
"kids? you thinking about locking me in, power?" you joked.
"always." he admitted.
you smiled, "gwen? like...?"
"stacy? heck yeah. i still have the copy you gave me."
"you kept the spider-man graphic novel i gave you? i gave it to you in like 7th grade."
"yeah, i did. i tore out the page you wrote the note on, and i have it with me, but i still have that comic in my old bedroom." he pulled out his wallet and pulled out the cover page of the spider-man graphic novel where you had written him a little note.
it read 'happy birthday, o! you'll forever be the peter to my gwen. love you' and a heart at the bottom.
"and you're still the peter to my gwen."
"i think it's mj."
"just enjoy the moment, owen."
umich weekend!

tick-tock goes the clock (5/?)
chapter by @tarlos-spain
ao3 | 2.5k | talk of career-ending injuries, owen strand's a+ parenting
At some point, Carlos had fallen asleep, exhausted after days without sleeping, not helped by the nerves and stress and the horrible feeling that if he closed his eyes for more than five minutes, TK could die.
So, despite his parents telling him they would take over for him, despite Owen saying the same with the most paternal tone (or possibly that of a boss, or even a friend and father-in-law), no one had been able to get Carlos to sleep at home for even a single night.
In the end, his body had made the decision for him to take a break before he fell ill. He fell asleep in a chair, half his body resting on TK’s bed even though, as much as he used the excuse that he was young and he could sleep however, it was hardly the most comfortable.
Maybe the moment wouldn’t have been as magical if he had been awake, or perhaps it would have. Either way, it would have been different to feel TK’s fingers tangling in his hair. It wasn’t the same as a true love’s kiss like in the movies, but for Carlos it was the best way of waking that he could have dreamed.
He drowsily raised his gaze, thinking he was still dreaming. That had happened ever since the accident; he would fall asleep and dream that TK was okay, or that it had all been a dream itself, or even just a horrible scare.
So when he saw TK’s green eyes open, watching Carlos closely, for real despite how it clearly tired him to do so, it was the most perfect sight that Carlos could ever imagine.
He shot upright—a bad idea considering how stiff he was, but he couldn’t care less about the way his back seized—and almost fell to his knees next to the bed, getting as close to TK as he could.
“Baby, you’re awake.”
“Babe… I feel weird…”
“You must be tired.”
“No… I don’t know. I feel… I feel like I’m floating. What happened?”
Carlos waited a moment to respond; he hadn’t prepared for the moment TK would wake and ask this.
“What do you remember?”
TK tried to move, but he couldn’t. He wanted to move his arms and legs, anything, but his body was paralysed, and he had no idea why.
Carlos knew that there wasn’t much time left before TK started panicking. If he remembered what had happened, his brain would surely take him back to the explosion, to the pain of feeling his body being torn apart. Yet, if he didn’t, the panic could be even worse.
“We were in a minefield and we saved two kids, two brothers. Are they okay? Are the boys okay?”
Carlos smiled. TK always worried about everyone else before himself; no explosion could change that about him.
“Yes, don’t worry tiger. The boys are alive because of you and your father.”
“My dad…”
Carlos waited—maybe talking about it had awoken his memory.
“Carlos, why can’t I move?”
He tried again, he tried to force his hands and arms to move, but he could barely lift them centimetres in the air. His legs seemed like they were completely disconnected from his body. Carlos watched TK arch his back as much as he could, and he knew that he was going to hurt himself doing that.
“Stop, stop that else you’ll hurt yourself,” he said, placing his hand on TK’s shoulder to get him to lie back down.
“I can’t move, Carlos. What happened? Where’s my dad? What happened?” TK’s eyes filled with tears as he thought about what could have gone wrong. “Babe… What’s going on?”
Carlos had promised himself that he wouldn’t cry, that, when TK woke up, he would smile and kiss him and comfort him as best he could. But now, in the moment, he couldn’t avoid it, and tears began to run uncontrollably down his cheeks.
There wasn’t anything left to do than to tell TK what had happened, avoiding the worst details.
“You and your father saved the boys and got them to safety. When it was time to come back, your dad took the lead and—”
“And he told me where to step to avoid setting off any of the mines,” continued TK as memories slowly began to come back to him. “I was terrified, and he was too.” He smiled; his father always acted sure, but TK knew him and he knew when he was scared.
Carlos waited to see if TK remembered anything else, but he just kept looking at him with a lost expression.
“It all happened really fast. You moved and the paramedic bag hit the ground.” Carlos gripped TK’s hands tightly; now came the worst part, and he didn’t know how his boyfriend would react. “It’s not like in the movies. Mines explode as soon as you put weight on them.”
TK’s breath picked up and his eyes widened, air harder to come by every second. He hadn’t realised that he could move his arms, but, unthinkingly, he lifted a hand towards his chest, though he couldn’t quite touch it.
“A bomb exploded on top of me.”
“You were lucky that you didn’t step on it yourself, and you managed to place the paramedic bag between your body and the explosion. It didn’t really stop the impact, but it probably saved your life.”
“And my dad?” TK remembered well the image of his father a second before the mine exploded. He was at his side, close enough to have also suffered from the impact. “Carlos, tell me my dad’s okay, tell me why he’s not here.”
“You father is fine,” Carlos shushed. “He was thrown to the ground and he had a few deep cuts, but nothing serious.”
“But he’s not here.”
TK couldn’t help but worry; any time this had happened before, when he had woken up in a hospital bed, his father’s face was always the first one he saw after Carlos’s. Something had to have happened for him not to be there.
And there was a reason; the problem was that Carlos didn’t know how to say it. How could he say that Owen felt too guilty to come and see him? How could he tell TK that his father didn’t feel able to be there?
“Babe, your dad… He’s torn up about what happened and he…he doesn’t know how to come here and ask your forgiveness. He thinks that the mine and everything else is his fault.”
“But…”
“I know, but I think he’s in shock. Your mom’s here too—they’re both really worried about you.”
Carlos hated TK’s pained expression. He could understand perfectly the pain that came with not having a father close when he’s most needed; he had gone through something similar, after all.
He approached and sat slowly on the bed so as not to hurt TK, then leaned over and kissed his forehead. When their gazes met, there was no need for either of them to say anything. Their lips met again in a slow, tender kiss—a kiss that hid all their fear. A private kiss.
“Everything is going to be okay.”
“You haven’t told me how I am,” TK said, his eyes starting to drift shut. “I’m so tired… It must be bad.” He looked down at his body, though between the sheets and the fact that he couldn’t move, he couldn’t see much.”
“You gave us all a good scare—”
“Babe, I know that talk. Tell me the truth, because a mine exploded in my face and I know that it can’t be good.”
Carlos swallowed and rubbed his face. “It’s not,” he confirmed. “You’ve been in an induced coma so that your body could rest. You’ve had risky heart surgery twice and they had to change a valve. They said that when you woke up, it would be a sign that things were finally going the right way, but it’ll be a long and painful recovery.”
“Oh… That…That sounds like I won’t be able to be a firefighter again.”
“Ty…”
“Tell me the truth. My life as a firefighter is over, right?” He pulled on Carlos’s hand to get him to say something, though he barely needed any confirmation. “Right?!”
He moaned upon raising his voice and started to shift anxiously in the bed. Carlos worried that TK had hurt himself, but the tears starting to make their way down his face didn’t come from physical pain, but from the agony of realising that his life before the explosion had ended for good.
Carlos wanted to hug him, to surround him with his body and pull him into his arms, but he knew that he couldn’t move him. Instead, he simply took hold of TK’s hands again and squeezed them, kissed them, and told him that everything would be okay.
“Everything’s over, my life, my job, my dad… That’s why he’s not here. He knows that I won’t be the same and he can’t look me in the eye.”
“TK, stop!” Carlos didn’t want to raise his voice, but it was the only way he could get TK’s attention. “None of that is true, baby. Your life…it will be different when you get out of here, but I will love you just the same. I’ll look after you, I’ll be by your side, and I assure you that your father will be too. Right now, he’s terrified because he thought he was going to lose his son and that it would be all his fault.”
TK watched Carlos with the expression of a terrified boy who just wanted to be hugged by those who loved him the most.
“Your dad is broken. He won’t admit it, but he’s drowning in guilt and he needs time.”
“And I need him,” TK said, his voice breaking. “I need my dad.”
“I know, my love.” If he knew how to fix this, Carlos would have given anything to do it. “And he’ll come after Judd is done hauling him over the coals; you know he’s the best at giving people some perspective.”
TK nodded and closed his eyes, though he didn’t fall asleep.
“Speaking of parents,” Carlos continued nervously, “mine want to come and meet the love of my life.”
He hadn’t planned to tell TK like that, but he needed to do something to get TK out of the black hole he’d fallen into. But when Carlos said it, TK stopped talking and just stared, like someone who had expected something else, but he was just met with Carlos’s smile.
“Did you say your parents? You told them about us?”
“Let’s say that when I thought I had lost you, when my world ended and I didn’t have anyone to talk to, my parents called me. I couldn’t stop crying, and they realised that you weren’t just a friend.”
“Babe…”
“Honestly, they already knew. Ever since they saw us in the market, apparently. Now…” Carlos picked up his phone after it pinged, then signalled towards the door with his head. “Now, they’re just waiting outside. They’re asking about you and my mom says she can’t wait to meet you. It’s not the time though, I know that. You need to rest.”
But, “Tell them to come in,” TK said, his voice barely a thread; he was clearly using all his strength to stay awake. “I want… I want to meet my in-laws.”
Gabriel and Andrea entered, both their faces lighting up when they saw TK awake. They had only met him once before the hospital and seeing him awake now was a huge relief that neither wanted to hide.
“TK, son.” Gabriel approached the bed and placed his hand on TK’s shoulder, then looked up and smiled at Carlos. “I’m glad to see you awake. Carlos hasn’t been doing so well these past few days; we were afraid that he would make himself sick.”
“Dad…”
“Sorry, mijo, but it’s true. It’s felt like we’ve had two sons with their lives in the balance.”
“Gabriel is right,” Andrea added. “It was difficult for us both to accept that Carlos was gay, and we clearly haven’t made it easy for him if he didn’t want to tell us about you. But when we saw his desperation and the love he feels for you, nothing else mattered.”
TK and Carlos exchanged glances. Carlos hadn’t expected his parents to say anything like that, much less that they’d do it in front of TK, but it was done. Now, TK knew that these had been the worst days of his life, and that he was completely head-over-heels for him. Though, at this point, Carlos was sure that he already knew.
“We brought you something to eat.” Andrea left her bag on the couch and began pulling tupperwares out of it. “Really, they were for Carlos, but now that you’re awake, TK, maybe you can try eating something too. As long as the doctors let you.”
“Mamá,” Carlos laughed.
“Carlos is a lot like you,” TK said, his tone as though he were about to fall asleep and was fighting against himself. “When he gets nervous, he talks a lot and very quickly… I’m so tired.”
“Sleep then, you need to get your strength back.” Carlos kissed him again—somehow it no longer seemed strange to show affection to the man he loved in front of his parents. “I’ll be here when you wake up.”
“Or maybe we’ll have managed to drag him from here and he’ll be sleeping in a bed at last,” Gabriel responded.
“He’s too stubborn,” TK said, the words slurred; he fell asleep immediately after.
Carlos kept looking at him and reached over to stroke his cheek.
“The doctors will take care of him while you go and sleep, mijo,” Andrea told him, rubbing his arm.
“I know, mamá. But before I go anywhere I need to make Owen see some sense. TK won’t be able to bear another day thinking his father has rejected him because he can’t be a firefighter anymore.”
“Ah, no.” Gabriel put on his hat. “Your mother and I are experts in doing wrong by a son, and it’s not the time for Captain Strand to make a mess of things with TK like that. We’ll take care of it, you go home to sleep.”
“I’ll take him.”
Carlos hadn’t known that Judd was in the hospital, but nor was it a surprise. After all, he had adopted TK as a younger brother, and he had been just as worried as both Carlos and Owen.
“Come on, Reyes. Don’t make me throw you over my shoulder to get you out of here.”
They were right, but Carlos still didn’t want to leave the room. Yet, he wouldn’t be able to stand much more time here before his body gave up on him.
“Your mother and I will stay right here until we get Owen to come.”
Carlos dropped a kiss on TK’s lips and followed after Judd. He stopped for a moment in the doorway, an irrational fear that, if he left, something might happen to TK taking over. But he had to trust that his boyfriend was one of the strongest people he had ever known, and so Carlos steeled himself and left.

round up // JULY 21
Tumblr media
‘Tis the season to beat the heat at the always-cold theatres and next to fans set at turbo speed. While my movie watching slowed a bit with the launch of the Summer Olympics on July 23rd, I’ve still got plenty of popcorn-ready and artsy recommendations for you. A few themes in the new-to-me pop culture I’m recommending this month:
Casts oozing with embarrassing levels of talent (sometimes overqualified for the movies they’re in)
Pop culture that is responding or reinterpreting past pop culture
Stories that get weEeEeird
Keep on-a-scrollin’ to see which is which!
July Crowd-Pleasers
Tumblr media
1. Double Feature – ‘90s Rom-Coms feat. Lots of Lies: Mystery Date (1991) + The Pallbearer (1996)
In Mystery Date (Crowd: 7.5/10 // Critic: 6/10), Ethan Hawke and Teri Polo get set up on a blind date that gets so bizarre and crime-y I’m not sure how this didn’t come out in the ‘80s. In The Pallbearer (Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 7/10), David Schwimmer and Gwyneth Paltrow try to combine The Graduate with Four Weddings and a Funeral in a story about lost twentysomethings. If you don’t like rom-coms in which circumstances depend on lots of lies and misunderstandings, these won’t be your jam, but if you’re like me and don’t mind these somewhat-cliché devices, you’ll be hooked by likeable casts and plenty of rom and com.
Tumblr media
2. The Tomorrow War (2021)
I thought of no fewer movies than this list while watching: Alien, Aliens, Angel Has Fallen, Cloverfield, Interstellar, Kong: Skull Island, Prometheus, A Quiet Place: Part II, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: The Revenge of the Sith, The Silence of the Lambs, The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and World War Z. And you know what? I like all those movies! (Okay, maybe I just have a healthy respect/fear of The Silence of the Lambs.) The Tomorrow War may not be original, but it borrows some of the best tropes and beats from the sci-fi and action genres, so much so I wish I could’ve seen Chris Pratt and Co. fight those gross monsters on a big screen. Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 6/10
Tumblr media
3. Dream a Little Dream (1989)
My July pick for the Dumb Rom-Com I Nevertheless Enjoyed! I CANNOT explain the mechanics of this body switch comedy to you—nor can the back of the DVD case above—but, boy, what an ‘80s MOOD. I did not know I needed to see a choreographed dance routine starring Jason Robards and Corey Feldman, but I DID. All I know is some movies are made for me and that I’m now a card-carrying member of the Two Coreys fan club. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 6.5/10
Tumblr media
4. Black Widow (2021)
The braids! The Pugh! Black Widow worked for me both as an exciting action adventure and as a respite from the Marvel adventures dependent on a long memory of the franchise. (Well, mostly—keep reading for a second MCU rec much more dependent on the gobs of previous releases.) Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 7.5/10
Tumblr media
5. Liar Liar (1997)
Guys, Jim Carrey is hilarious. That’s it—that’s the review. Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 7/10
youtube
6. Sob Rock by John Mayer (2021)
It’s very possible I’ve already listened to this record more than all other John Mayer records. It doesn’t surpass the capital-G Greatness of Continuum, but it’s a little bit of old school Mayer, a little bit ‘80s soft rock/pop, and I’ve had it on repeat most of the two weeks since it’s been out. Featuring the boppiest bop that ever bopped, at least one lyrical gem in every track, and an ad campaign focused on Walkmans, this record skirts the line between Crowd faves and Critic-worthy musicianship.
Tumblr media
7. Double Feature – ‘00s Ben Affleck Political Thrillers: The Sum of All Fears (2002) + State of Play (2009)
In The Sum of All Fears (Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 7.5/10), Ben Affleck is Jack Ryan caught up in yet another international incident. In State of Play (Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 7/10), he’s a hotshot Congressman caught up in a scandal. Both are full of plot twists and unexpected turns, and in both, Affleck is accompanied by actors you’re always happy to see, like Jason Bateman, James Cromwell, Russell Crowe, Jeff Daniels, Viola Davis, Morgan Freeman, Philip Baker Hall, David Harbour, Rachel McAdams, Helen Mirren, Liev Schreiber, and Robin Wright—yes, I swear all of those people are in just those two movies.
Tumblr media
8. Loki (2021-)
Unlike Black Widow, you can’t go into Loki with no MCU experience. The show finds clever ways to nudge us with reminders (and did better at it than Falcon and the Winter Soldier), but be forewarned that at some point, you’re just going to have to let go and accept wherever this timeline-hopper is taking you. An ever-charismatic cast keeps us grounded (Owen Wilson, Jonathan Majors, and an alligator almost steal the show from Tom Hiddleston in some eps), but while Falcon lasted an episode or two too long, Loki could’ve used a few more to flesh out its complicated plot and develop its characters. Thankfully, the jokes matter almost as much as the sci-fi, so you can still have fun even if you have no idea what’s going on.
Tumblr media
9. Double Feature – Bruce Willis: Die Hard With a Vengeance (1995) + The Whole Nine Yards (2000)
Before Bruce Willis began starring in many random direct-to-DVD movies I only ever hear about in my Redbox emails, he was a Movie Star smirking his way up the box office charts. In the third Die Hard (Crowd: 10/10 // Critic: 7.5/10), he teams up with Samuel L. Jackson to decipher the riddles of a terrorist madman (Jeremy Irons), and it’s a thrill ride. In The Whole Nine Yards (Crowd: 9/10 // Critic: 8/10), he’s hitman that screws up dentist Matthew Perry’s boring life in Canada, and—aside from one frustrating scene of let’s-objectify-women-style nudity—it’s hilarious.
Tumblr media
10. This Is the End (2013)
On paper, this is not a movie for me. An irreverent stoner comedy about a bunch of bros partying it up before the end of the world? None of things are for Taylors. But with a little help of a TV edit to pare down the raunchy and crude bits, I laughed my way through and spent the next several days thinking through its exploration of what makes a good person. While little of the plot is accurate to Christian Gospel and theology, some of its big ideas are consistent enough with the themes of the book of Revelation I found myself thinking about it again in church this morning. (Would love to know if Seth Rogen ever expected that.) Plus, I love a good self-aware celebrity spoof—can’t tell you how many times I’ve just laughed remembering the line, “It’s me, Jonah Hill, from Moneyball”—and an homage to horror classics. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 7/10
July Critic Picks
Tumblr media
1. Summer of Soul (…or, When the Television Could Not Be Televised) (2021)
Even director Questlove didn’t know about the Harlem Cultural Festival, but now he’s compiled the footage so we can all enjoy one of the coolest music fest lineups ever, including The 5th Dimension, B.B. King, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Nina Simone, Sly and the Family Stone, and Stevie Wonder, who made my friend’s baby dance more than once in the womb. See it on the big screen for top-notch audio. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 9/10
Tumblr media
2. Good Morning, Vietnam (1987)
Robin Williams takes on the bureaucracy, disillusionment, and malaise of the Vietnam War with comedy. Williams was a one-of-a-kind talent, and here it’s on display at a level on par with Aladdin. Crowd: 8/10 // Critic: 9/10
Tumblr media
3. Against the Rules Season 2 (2020-21)
Michael Lewis (author of Moneyball, adapted into a film starring Jonah Hill), is interested in how we talk about fairness. This season he looks at how coaches impact fairness in areas like college admissions, credit cards, and youth sports.
Tumblr media
4. Bugsy Malone (1976)
A gangster musical starring only children? It’s a little like someone just picked ideas out of a hat, but somehow it works. You can hear why in the Bugsy Malone episode Kyla and I released this month on SO IT’S A SHOW?, plus how this weird artifact of a film connects with Gilmore Girls.
Tumblr media
5. The Queen (2006)
Before The Crown, Peter Morgan wrote The Queen, focusing on Queen Elizabeth II (Helen Mirren) in the days following the death of Princess Diana. It’s a complex and compassionate drama, both for the Queen and for Prime Minister Tony Blair (Michael Sheen, who has snuck up on me to become a favorite character actor). Maybe I’ve got a problem, but I’ll never tire of the analysis of this famous family. Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 9.5/10
Tumblr media
6. The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean (1972)
This month at ZekeFilm, we took a closer look at Revisionist Westerns we’ve missed. I fell hard for Roy Bean, and I think you will, too, if for no other reason than you might like a story starring Jacqueline Bisset, Ava Gardner, John Huston, Paul Newman, and Anthony Perkins. Oh, and a bear! Crowd: 8.5/10 // Critic: 10/10
youtube
7. New Trailer Round Up
Naked Singularity (Aug. 6) – John Boyega in a crime thriller!
Queenpins (Aug. 10) – A crime comedy about extreme coupon-ing!
Dune (Oct. 1) – I’ve been cooler on the anticipation for this film, but this new look has me cautiously intrigued thanks to the Bardem + Bautista + Brolin + Chalamet + Ferguson + Isaac + Momoa + Zendaya of it all.
The Last Duel (Oct. 15) – Affleck! Damon! Driver!
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (Nov. 11) - I’m not sure why we need this, but I’m down for the Paul Rudd + Finn Wolfhard combo
King Richard (Nov. 19) - Will Smith as Venus and Serena’s father!
Encanto (Nov. 24) – Disney and Lin-Manuel Miranda making more magic together!
House of Gucci (Nov. 24) - Gaga! Pacino! Driver!
Also in July…
Kyla and I took a look at the classic supernatural soap Dark Shadows and why Sookie might be obsessed with it on Gilmore Girls.
I revisited a so-bad-it’s-good masterpiece that’s a surrealist dream even Fellini couldn’t have cooked up. Yes, for ZekeFilm I wrote about the Vanilla Ice movie, Cool as Ice, which is now a part of my Blu-ray collection.

Yess jurassic park 🙌 my favorite past time is watching with my fiancé and randomly yelling "quick what dinosaur is that" because he was a dinosaur kid. 😂
It’s one of my favorite movie series! It always has been. I love the books as well. They get much more into the science of everything. The new animated series on Netflix, Camp Cretaceous, is really good too! And the phone game, Jurassic World Alive, is so fun to play. It’s like Pokemon Go but for dinosaurs!!!
Also, here are the movies in order from best to worst even though nobody asked for my opinion (I just wanted to talk about them):
First Place - Jurassic Park
Obviously. The original is almost always the best. It’s a classic with great casting, acting, and practical effects. Rexy is b-e-a-utiful!
Though I’m a little angry at the fictionalization of the Dilophosaurus and misinterpretation of the Velociraptor. The velociraptors in the movie look more like a Utahraptor (my favorite in the genus). But I’m not that mad about it. I can forgive those things because it’s still such an amazing movie.
Second Place - The Lost World: Jurassic Park
The end sequence isn’t my favorite. It’s so dumb. But I tolerate it for everything up to that point, especially actors Jeff Goldblum and Pete Postlethwaite (RIP). And there are double the T-Rexes, so what’s not to love? Plus, there’s an adorable baby rex.
And the scene with all the cars driving into the herd astounded child me.
Third Place - Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
I appreciate the horroresque vibe. And there was an Allosaurus and a Baryonyx! I love them!
I also love how there were a lot more practical effects in this one compared to Jurassic World; especially the T-rex and Blue scene in the cargo boat. It made it so much more real since they were touching the creatures.
I could go without the ‘cloning people’ aspect. Dealing with dinosaurs was plenty for the series. And the whole ‘nephew is actually a villain’ was so predictable and already in The Lost World.
Fourth Place - Jurassic World
I loved the final battle and a few scenes here and there, but overall, I was left just questioning the decisions of the scriptwriters. I didn’t care about those two kids. I don’t want to hear about their parents divorcing. Why is that even in there? It adds nothing!
Also, the whole scene of the Indominus breaking out doesn’t make sense. The claw marks on the wall, when Owen noticed them, weren’t deep enough for the Indominus to actually get any gripping to climb out. Her claws didn’t penetrate the concrete. They were just scratches. Taking five seconds to think about it would have let them realize that. And why didn’t Clare call for the Indominus’s locator/tracker to be checked before leaving the area? That’s literally the first thing someone should do!
Fifth Place - Jurassic Park III
Listen, I have such a love-hate relationship with this movie. I loved it as a kid. Then my brain developed, and I realized how bad it was. All it is is characters running from point A to point B, then running from point B to point C. And all the screaming is so annoying.
The entire raptor subplot is just... what? Yeah, paleontologists believe velociraptors were smart- about the same as a modern-day dog. Dogs are smart. But they don’t have these ‘let’s set a trap to catch the humans’ genius-level brain. They don’t work that way. And hunting the humans, then not attacking and killing them once they got their eggs back, just doesn’t work either.
It’s only in my good graces because of the Spinosaurus (even though the design is out of date and there is simply no way one could beat a T-Rex, no way).
I wish they did more with pterosaurs through the series. There was the ‘bird cage’ scene in the third and some in the Jurassic World, but there are so many cool pterosaurs they could have added! Like the Quetzalcoatlus! I love them! I would love one as a pet. I mean, who wouldn’t want a giant flying reptile the size of a small plane?
So many of them have amazing skull crests too! Tropeognathus? Odd bills but that’s their charm! Caupedactylus? Gorgeous and colorful crest! Dsungaripterus weii? It had an upturned jaws! Tupandactylus imperator? Full crest undoubtedly remarkable to see in flight!
I would love to see movies, video games, comics, whathaveyou use different dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and megafauna/extinct animals rather than the same ones we see repeatedly, especially since most aren’t even accurate! If you’re going to use velociraptors, please, for the love of God, research what they were actually like! And there are so many cool megafauna that’s not a wholly mammoth or a Smilodon. Those have been done to death.

DT - Fallen Kingdom - Mistakes
Tumblr media
(Aww, i love this gif so much! Btw the gif doesn't belong to me)
A/n - Okay, I know this is totally random, but after re-watching the movie Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom I was really looking forward to writing this, and to explain some things this is part of the same series of Dinosaur Trainer fanfics, but in the future. Why did I write this instead of writing chapter 2? I don't know, I just wanted to write something that happened in the Fallen Kingdom movie, and so as not to lose inspiration I wrote.
Some things will only make sense to me, and it will only make sense to you after I write more about the story. (I swear I’ll try to write Chapter 2 soon, and do them in the right order, and not jump into the past and then into the future, but I told myself that whenever I have an idea to write, I should write, if not later I will never be able to write this again, so here it is.)
Btw, I also wanted something angst and fluff, because I don't know, I like to write / read with this combination of angst and fluff, am I weird? Maybe ¯ \ _ (ツ) _ / ¯
But I hope you like it! Oh, and the dinosaurs I censored the name of the species, because I still want it to be a surprise that I intend to reveal only in chapter 3, then xxxxxxxxxxx is the fusion of the dinosaur that y/n trains together with another one that I will not reveal yet 🤭😁, you will understand what I mean, especially with future chapters, so I’ll leave it to your imagination which dinosaur it is. Enjoy! See you in the final notes!
Warnings: Spoilers, almost death by dinosaur, mentions of miscarriage, crying (a lot), angst, "cheated", dino death ;-;, fight, possible english errors, maybe other things that I'm forgetting... let me know if you find something I need to warn that I forgot.
(oh, and Claire isn't very nice here, so if you like her, sorry. not sorry)

[...]
I was in a corner of the dark room watching Rain and the Xxxxxxxxxxx, they seemed to be communicating, making grunts, and Rain seemed to make the same sounds as when she cried, and it was breaking my heart, I was so scared, and probably Rain would die anytime and I would be helpless, and so I would die for that mutant being.
The Xxxxxxxxxxx looks at me, and approaches slowly, my breath started to accelerate and the tears kept flowing, I bit my lip holding my hiccups with the dinosaur's proximity, she looks at me and I swallow, she touches the hand that was on my belly and snorts, she closed eyes for a second before grunting, the same grunt that Rain did when I approached her there in the truck.
I really wanted to know what they talked about, how the hell was the dinosaur that seconds ago was trying to kill me, it was there next to me, touching my stomach, I just hoped it wasn't something she was doing before killing me, but luckily she did nothing against me, and so when the lights came back on, she lifted her head and grunted, turning and walking away.
I walk towards Rain, and I see that her breath was failing a lot, I sit next to her, placing my hand on her neck, and she growled quietly, more and more tears start to fall and I hear a very loud scream coming from somewhere, but I looked again at the albino dinosaur when she groans in pain.
- I'm sorry, I wish I could help, but I don't know... - My voice comes just above the whisper, Rain opens her blue eyes and grunts one last time, until her body stops moving. - Rain!
I scream her name softly and bend down, placing my face on the scaly skin, letting the tears fall. I get up on wobbly legs, I couldn't stay there with her dead, so I walked to the nearest doors and opened it, entering a room where it looked like an exhibition place, but it was all a mess, I hear voices and walk towards it, just to see Owen and Claire kissing.
My already broken heart seemed to have been trampled to dust, I let a sob leave my lips with the scene, and because of that Owen looks at me with wide eyes, I run towards one of the corridor, just to get out of there as soon as possible, I hear my husband's voice in the distance calling my name, but I kept running, not looking back, until I reached the main door, leaving the Lockwoods' mansion, where raindrops wet my entire body.
My body shivers when I hear the sound of a grunt coming from a high place, and when I turn around, I see that on top of the roof there was a dinosaur, I thought that maybe it was Xxxxxxxxxxx, but its shape was different, so maybe it was other, but I couldn't identify which one it would be.
I see it coming down the roof, entering through a window, and in a short time I hear the sound of gunshots, followed by dinosaur grunts and human screams, and then through the same window that that dinosaur came in, I see two people leave, but I couldn't identify who it was.
I start to follow them across the floor, as I follow them, I hear more grunts and screams, in addition to the sound of glass breaking. The two people went to a glass ceiling, and I tried to identify who it was, but I couldn't see well, but apparently the dinosaur was following them, and maybe it was approaching them, because after a roar, they walk away, and one of the people ends up slipping and screaming, but the other one else catches it.
I hear footsteps next to me and see that it was Xxxxxxxxxxx, she looks at me and makes a small sound, before she starts to climb the walls, and then a faint sound of banging metal appears.
The two people who were falling manage to climb, the bigger person walks away, and the unidentified dinosaur screams, and soon after I hear glass breaking, in addition to more grunts. I see that Xxxxxxxxxxx reached the ceiling, and went into attack position, and another smaller dinosaur screams, who could almost swear it was the sound of a velociraptor, and they both attack the dinosaur, and they all fall off the glass ceiling.
Not long after, the people up there say something, but I was too far away to understand, and I notice that the silhouette of the two people is gone.
I look around, hoping there wasn't any dinosaur there, and I go back to the mansion's entrance, standing on the stairs. I didn’t know where to go, what to do, or what to feel, so many things had happened that day, almost death on the isla Nublar, discovering that they weren't actually looking after the dinosaurs, but would sell them, mutant dinosaur, dinosaur attacks, Rain's death, watching Owen's scene…
My tears are mixed with rainwater when I start to remember Rain and Owen, the only thing I could do now was cry, feel guilty, feel worthless, and think I'm not good enough.
I wrap my arms around my stomach, and I ended up getting even more worried, the baby, all this madness would certainly not be good for the baby, and I was afraid that I might have an miscarriage because of that, and I didn’t want to lose this baby, I already suffered a lot in just one day, and with that, I don’t know what I could do with me.
Lost in thought, I get scared when I hear the heavy noise of several dinosaurs running, and I hadn't even realized that the rain had stopped, I hear footsteps approaching the front door, Turning to see who it was, I realize it was Owen, along with a girl, Franklin, Zia and urgh, Claire.
I walk down the stairs before they leave, but of course Owen would see me and then he screams out calling my name.
- Y/n! Wait! - I stop in the middle of the steps when I see a familiar dinosaur at the bottom of the stairs, Blue. Owen stopped beside me, and when he saw the velociraptor he spoke. - Hey Girl.
- Owen. - I hear Claire's voice, and I swear that hearing her say my husband's name made me want to throw up and start crying again, not that the tears stopped at some point in fact, damn hormones that wouldn't let me go without crying for a second.
- Shh! It's okay, she won't hurt us. - Owen goes down the rest of the steps, approaching Blue, with his hand extended to touch her. - Hey.
Without my realizing it, I went down the stairs, approaching Owen and the velociraptor.
- Blue, come with me. - He pets Blue, and she purrs, and then takes Owen's hand away, approaching me slowly, she sniffs me for a moment and gently touches my stomach, which makes me smile, and then I pet her too, making her purr, and Owen puts his hand on her again, it seems like he didn’t realized it as anything else, but I knew she knew I was pregnant, as well as Rain and Xxxxxxxxxxx.
- We'll take you to a safe place, okay? - Blue chitter and then follows the look of Owen who was seeing the big container beside and looks again at Owen before running from there to the forest, looking back for a second, making another noise as if to say goodbye, more tears flow from my eyes, and I still had my arms around my stomach. My husband looks at me, he was going to say something, but he is interrupted by a little girl who hugs him, I look at him for a moment, and then I can't let a sob out of my mouth, then cover it with my hand and leave.
- Y/n! Where are you going!?
- Anywhere away from you! - I can muster the strength to speak before continuing on my aimless path, I hear the sound of his steps on the gravel and feel him take my wrist, forcing me to look at him. - Leave me!
I try to remove his hand from my wrist, but it only made him hold both of my arms, preventing me from leaving.
- Y/n, that was a misunderstanding…
- Oh sure! A kiss was a misunderstanding! I know very well what I saw! And I know very well that you should be loving this! Why don't you just break up with me and stay with your dear Claire Dearing? - I say with all the anger and sadness that had engulfed my body, trying desperately to remove his hands from me.
- Y/n, I didn't kiss her! She kissed me!
- Ah, of course, the typical excuse. - I roll my eyes, avoiding looking at him. - I know I'll never be perfect like her, so why just… don't let me…
All the anger that I had ends up falling, and I just feel disappointment in myself and a deep sadness.
- Because I love you, and I could never leave you. - He puts a hand on my cheek, wiping my tears away, but I push, not wanting him to touch me.
- I doubt it. - I look at the stairs for a moment, and I can quickly see the four standing on the stairs, probably listening to our conversation, and I can swear I could see Claire with a little smile. I look at my right side trying hard not to look at him.
- Hey, look at me. - He forced me to look at him, but I was more stubborn, and I wasn't going to give him that power, so I kept looking away.
- I will always be the last option... - I whisper, as more tears clouded my vision.
- Hey, listen to me, you aren't the last option, believe me, I love you more than anything in this world, and you know it. - For the second time he puts one of his big hands on my cheek, wiping away my tears, I didn't know what to say, I wanted to retaliate, yell at him, curse him, hit him, but I couldn't do anything. - Nothing Claire does will make me leave you, because you are the only person I love.
- And how do I know if you're not lying? - I managed to say between sobs.
- You know I would never be with you if I didn't really love you, right? And I swear to god I will do anything to prove my words that I love you, and that I would go to hell for you.
For the first time I look at his eyes, his green eyes that I loved so much, for a moment I hesitated but I kiss him, it was a passionate kiss, it was necessary, it was despair, and I can hear the sound of voices behind us, but I didn't pay much attention, because the only thing I wanted to pay attention to was there, in that kiss. But when I feel a sharp pain in my stomach, I have to part with Owen's lips and shrink in pain.
- Y/n? What happened?
- I-I. - The pang of pain seemed to take all my breath away, making me almost unable to speak. - I d-don't know.
It was then that I felt a liquid between my legs, I couldn't see it, but I was pretty sure it was blood.
- No, no, no.
- Y/n, what's going on?
- O-Owen… - He wraps his arms around me, bringing me closer, and the four who were on the stairs before approach us.
- What is happening? - Asked Franklin, with his usual nervousness, but I can't judge him, since I was kind of like that too, especially now. I even tried to speak, but I couldn't, I could only think that I probably had an miscarriage, and that I hadn't even told Owen that he was going to be a father.
- I don't know, y/n was writhing in pain. - He answers while stroking my back, which made me calm down a little.
- What kind of pain? - Zia asked approaching us both.
- Mis-miscarriage. - It was the only thing I managed to say, but my voice was muffled and I don't know if anyone understood.
- What? - Owen and Zia speak at the same time.
- I-I... I think I had... a mis-miscarriage. - I spoke louder as I buried my head in Owen's chest, and held his shirt tighter.
- Miscarriage? What... - Owen doesn't finish talking and just remains silent, and stopped stroking my back.
- We have to take her to the hospital now. - Zia said to Owen, and he removed his arms from me, before starting to carry me bride-style to one of the cars (or truck?) that was nearby, he put me in the passenger seat and then went around to get into the driver's seat.
I heard the sound of footsteps and I was pretty sure the four of them had gone in behind the car/truck, but I was more busy trying to control my breathing and try to stop crying for a few minutes, but the thought of losing my baby and all of this being my fault kept getting in of my head, I avoided looking at Owen, and I only paid attention to the road in front of us, I realized several times that Owen wanted to say something, but he never spoke, the only thing he said was.
- We're almost there, just a few more minutes. - He had put his hand on my knee, maybe trying to comfort me in some way, but in fact it just made me feel more guilty about not telling him.
I don't know how Owen managed to find the way to the hospital, but there we were, he took me to the reception, and spoke to the nurse at the counter.
- Please, this is an emergency! - He raised his voice when the nurse insisted she had to fill out a form before I was attended.
- What kind of emergency? - The nurse said while typing something on the computer, and then before Owen could answer, I speak.
- I think I had a miscarriage. - I instinctively put my hands on my belly, and the nurse agrees and starts to call a phone, calling one of the doctors, and then she calls other nurses came and puts me on a stretcher.
- Hey! Let me go with her! - I hear Owen's voice behind me, but I couldn't see him.
- Sorry sir, but you'll have to stay in the waiting room.
- But I'm her husband!
- Sir, you have to be patient and wait.
- Please let him come. - I say weakly, but I don't know for exactly who. - Please.
The nurses looked hesitant, but they let him come along. They took me to an empty room, and we had to wait until the doctor arrived, and meanwhile I was lying there, with Owen by my side holding my hand, I could feel his gaze on me, but I was ignoring him.
- Y/n.
- …
- Look at me. - I believe that when he realized that I wouldn't move my head to face him, he gently put his hand on my chin, thus having to look at him. - Why didn't you tell me you were pregnant?
His voice was low, and I could feel the disappointment as he spoke, I tried to answer, but instead more tears fall.
- Are you mad at me? - I ask him, but I couldn't look directly in your eyes.
- No! Of course not! I'm not mad, I'm worried! You already knew that before we went to the island, and yet you agreed to risk you and our baby's life! - When his voice started to increase, I shrunk.
- Because I knew you wouldn't let me go to the island if I told you! I knew you would be mad! - I remove his hand and look at the other corner of the room.
- I'm not mad! I'm worried! What did you expect to happen if something worse had happened? What if you had died?
- You could stay with Claire... - I answer quietly.
- Y/n, I'm serious!
- And me too! I know you never forgot her! - I increase the tone of my voice, but I stop immediately as another stab of pain arises.
- We already talked about it y/n, now stop deviating from the subject.
- I-I... - When I was about to start talking, the room door opens and the doctor enters with a clipboard.
- Y/n Grady? - I nod in agreement and the doctor approaches us both. - Okay, I'm Dr. Briggs, I'm going to ask you some questions before I do the ultrasound, okay?
- Ok… - I glance at Owen, who looked at the doctor and then at me.
- How long have you been pregnant?
- 6 weeks.
- Uhum, and since when have you known about pregnancy?
- 3 weeks. - I feel more tears falling from my eyes, and a sob ends up escaping, and I put my hand over my mouth, trying to control myself.
- Do you take any medication? - I just shake my head negatively, not sure if I could speak.
- Have you had a lot of stress in the last few days? - I look quickly at Owen, and this time he answered.
- We were dinosaur trainers, we had to rescue them today, and it was... very stressful.
- Hum, I understand. - He kept writing something on the clipboard, he asked a few more questions, and when he finished writing he said he would have to go to the room where he had the necessary equipment for an ultrasound, and then he left the room and not long after some nurses came and took the stretcher that I was to another room, and as soon as we got there the doctor said he would be back soon, Owen and I were silent, I still ignored him but I could feel him staring at me.
- 3 weeks… - Owen whispered, probably talking to himself more, but I can't help feeling guilty about it.
- Owen, I-I… - I tried to recover my voice and add the courage I had to face my husband. - I'm sorry, I was going to tell you! I swear! But at first I was afraid that you didn't want this child, but after I decided I was going to tell you, I wanted, I don't know, to make a cute surprise… but then they called us about the island and the dinosaurs, and then Claire begged us to go… and when I saw you watching the baby velociraptors... I really wanted to save Blue, and Rain, and I knew that if I told you, you wouldn't let me go along. I'm sorry Owen, and now… a-and now our baby is probably d-dead because of me.
As I spoke more tears and sobs appeared, and Owen listened in silence to everything I had to say and wiped my tears away with his fingers.
- Why did you think I wouldn't want to have a baby? This is one of the most incredible things I could hear.
- I don't know... I-I, I'm sorry. - It was the only thing I managed to whisper, and when Owen was going to say something, the doctor came into the room.
- Okay, let's start. - The doctor said when he sat in the chair next to the machine, he touched some things, he turned off the lights and asked me to raise my shirt and lower my pants a little, so that he could apply the warm gel on my belly, and then put the device on, I looked at the screen in front of me, which changed as he slid the device, and I gasped when I saw a small black bean-shaped spot with a white dot on it.
- Is that white dot her, doctor? - I looked at Owen, and realized that his eyes were watering.
- Yeah, it's the baby. - The doctor said while analyzing the screen and typing some things.
- Owen, there's no way of knowing if it was her or him. - My voice was low and sad, while still watching my husband, who looked away from the screen to look at me and smiled at me.
- I feel it's her. - When Owen said that I laugh a little bit still in tears, and I remembered the rare times we talked about children, saying that he wanted to have 4 girls, and I said that the chances of that happening were low, since it’s not possible to just want to, it’s a game of luck, and the chances of having 4 children, and they were all girls was very difficult, unless I was my aunt and he was my uncle, since they had 5 children, all girls.
- Well, I can't say that yet, since to discover the genre it will be necessary to wait until the 20th week or more. - When the doctor said that, a click crossed my mind, but I was quiet for a few seconds before speaking.
- Wait? Do you mean the baby is still alive? - My tears had stopped, and a glimmer of hope appeared, and I looked at Owen again, and I didn't exactly know what he was feeling, but his face was kind of funny to see.
- I can't say this with 100% certainty yet, I will need some more tests and we need to follow up to see how the embryo and your body reacts, if the body will expel it, if there will be growth of the embryo, or if there will be no growth of it, but apparently what you suffered was an abortion threat, so it's better to be careful that a real miscarriage doesn't happen.
After so many tears of sadness that I spilled that day, I finally managed to smile and tears of happiness fellen, and I saw that Owen also had a big smile on his face, with a single tear running down your cheek, he took my hand that he had been holding all this time and kissed it, before kissing my forehead.
- I'll leave you a moment alone, I'll be back in a few minutes. - He took his clipboard and left the room which was still dark, with the image of our baby still appearing on the screen.
- We're going to be parents. - Owen whispers and his forehead was resting on top of my head, and I could feel some of his tears fall.
- But he said he can't be 100% sure ... - The thought takes over my mind, thinking that the worst could happen still haunted me.
- Shh, don't think about it. - He put one of his hands on my cheek and then makes eye contact with me. - She will survive, she is a Grady, and the Grady don't die easily, look at us, we have survived attacks by dinosaurs, twice.
I laugh at what he said, and a few more tears escaped my eyes, I couldn't understand how the hell I still managed to have so many tears.
- How can you be so sure it's her? What if it's a boy? - I asked him when I wiped my tears.
- Shh, don't question my fatherly instincts. - It makes me laugh even more.
- Hey, I'm the one who is pregnant, I'm the one who should have maternal instincts about what gender is. - I playfully tap his shoulder, and he laughs too.
- Since you say, then tell me, what do you think it will be? - Owen shrugged before taking my hand again.
- Hmm ... I don't know, there is a 50% chance of being a girl and a 50% chance of being a boy, besides that in the future we don't know if he or she will feel the same way they was born and…
- Ok, ok, ok, got it, you don't know. - He laughed when I hit him on the shoulder and he raises his hands in defense.
- My… uh… maternal instincts are still not strong enough to be sure. - I shrug, which makes Owen laugh again.
- Okay, so let's do it like that, I bet 50 bucks that me and my fatherly instincts are right and it will be a girl.
- Hum, do you want to bet now? - I raise my eyebrows at his proposal and cross my arms.
- Well, I need money to buy some beers for when we go to celebrate that I'm right. - He shrugs smiling and I laugh rolling my eyes.
- Ok, ok, I accept the bet. - I talk giving my hand to him so we can close the bet.
- You know you always lose them, don't you? - He chuckles, and still doesn't shake my hand.
- I know, but I accept the bet. - I smile and he shakes my hand.
- Then you can go saving the 100 dollars.
- Hey! The deal was 50! - I tap him on the shoulder again making him laugh again, but then he takes my hands.
- Are you sure? - Owen raises his eyebrows and I snort.
- Yes, I'm sure, I'm pregnant, I'm not deaf or crazy. - He laughs at my sentence and kisses my hands.
- I'm kidding... it was actually 150.
- Hey! - I can't believe how before I was crying desperately and now I was laughing, just him to be able to cheer me up at a time like this.
- Okay, okay, it'll be 50 bucks, and you better get ready to lose. - I roll my eyes and then look at the screen that had the image of our baby, and I can feel Owen's arm wrap around my shoulders and he lean his head against mine. - I swear with my life that I will take care of you and our baby, and that I love you both more than anything in the world, and nothing will change that.
- Not even Claire? - I ended up returning to the subject, but I couldn't help it, I was still hurt because of that.
- I swear y/n, what happened there meant nothing to me, because you are the only one for me, and nothing she does will destroy my love for you, understand?
- Uhum. - I nod, with a single tear that insisted on falling, and then Owen holds my chin, looking into my eyes for a few seconds before we kiss deeply, at least until the doctor comes back and interrupts us.
- Oh, well, sorry to disturb your moment, but if you don't mind, we'll have to do some more exams, so we'll take you to the room you were in earlier. - The doctor said and right behind him came nurses, who took me to the room, followed by the doctor and my husband.
The doctor said that in addition to examining the embryo he needed to examine my other wounds, and see if I was all right, and because of that he put serum on me, collected blood samples, besides nurses came and made bandages on my injuries. I felt like crap to tell you the truth, and the only thing I wanted most was to take a shower, but the doctor wouldn't let me, at least for now, because he said I was still very weak, so I had better rest, and even if he hadn't said that, I think Owen would have stopped me saying the same thing.
- You need to sleep. - Owen said to me, he was sitting next to me in the chair next to the stretcher, and then he kissed my right hand that was intertwined with his, and he puts his free hand over my hand that was resting on my belly.
- You too. - I spoke in a hoarse voice, maybe it was the sleep that was hitting me little by little, or maybe it was because I cried and sobbed so much.
- I will when you are.
- Hum... you're stubborn. - I could feel my eyes getting heavy, but I wanted to keep them open so I could see his face, which smiled at me.
- Look who's talking. - I laugh lightly, I think we were both the most stubborn people on Earth.
- Would it be possible to turn off the lights, this is burning my eyes. - Owen chuckled before nodding and getting up to turn off the lights, soon returning to the same position as he was before. - Thanks.
- You're welcome. Good night y/n. - He kissed my forehead and then gave a sloppy kiss on my lips.
- Good night Owen. - After closing my eyes, it wasn't long before I was in the world of dreams…  or rather, nightmares, because of course that after the nightmare I went through in real life, my mind couldn't miss the opportunity to haunt me.

A / n - Hey! Hello again! I think I wrote more than I expected, well, maybe I got a little excited hehe xD
And damn, I want to write the continuation of this chapter, but I also want to hold on and write the other things I need to write.
I don't know why, but as I wrote Doctor Briggs I saw his appearance as Benedict Cumberbatch xD
Anyway, I hope this was good and that you enjoyed it, don't forget to let me know if you have found any english error, or if something is very confusing, I always reread it several times, but I never know if something may have gone unnoticed.
Until the next chapter!

Request Friday: Omni we desperately NEED the Shaw Sibs stealing Luke’s oversized hoodies and wearing them.
I’m talking, well-worn, super soft, slightly frayed cuffs, old jerseys from high school/college, REC Leauge sport teams, shirts with stretched out necks, DSS shirts, hoodies with faded “HOBBS” on the back, and the Shaws refuse to admit that this piece of clothing isn’t their own.
Roman freaking out when Owen wears one. Ramsey jealous and wanting one of her own. Deckard smol and tiny, swimming in it and daring to look Luke in the eyes and deny deny deny “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
YES!! I ABSOLUTELY NEEDED THIS TODAY!
This idea just warms my heart so much!! I have so much love for this!!
Just the idea of the Shaws absolutely loving Luke and trusting to the point that they willingly share his things and feel safe in them
And the added bonus of Roman's and Ramsey's reactions?! Magnificent!!

The first time any of the Shaws wore anything of Luke's was after Deckard stayed over after a night of passion. Luke thought he would have left in the middle of the night
Instead, Deckard had fallen asleep in his arms and they had woken up together in the morning. But when Luke got up and got dressed, he saw that Deckard shivering
Luke had been confused as to how Deckard was shivering in LA weather, but nonetheless he had opened on of his dressers and found a hoodie for Deckard
"Here." He called out and threw the hoodie. Catching it easily, Deckard blinked up at him in surprise. "Wear that."
Not saying a word, Deckard quickly did so, letting the large hoodie fall over him
Smiling, Luke liked the picture he made
The hoodie was huge on him, almost swallowing him whole. The sleeves covered his hands and the bottom of it reached the middle of his thighs. The large DSS logo was loudly presented on his chest, and Luke knew that "HOBBS" was plastered all over his back
"Got something to say, twinkletoes?" Deckard snapped, crossing his arms and glaring
"No." Luke chuckled. "You can keep that if you want."
He would soon learn that was the worst thing he could ever said
---
It had been half a year since then, and Luke never wore that hoodie ever again
But Deckard's brother and sister most certainly have
The first time Luke saw Hattie wearing his hoodie, he nearly fell over laughing. If he thought it looked huge on Deckard, it looked even bigger on Hattie
The collar was stretched and showed off one of her shoulders, while the sleeves completely engulfed her hands
She had glared at him hard when he let out a loud snort of laughter
"Bugger off, I'm cold!"
"Sorry, sorry." Luke tried to contain his chuckles, but was mostly unsuccessful. "Want me to get you something else?"
"Sure."
Picking through his closet, he found a faded, but still warm sweater. It fit her much better
Good thing it wasn't one of his favorites because he never touched it ever again
---
When he had seen Owen wear that hoodie for the first time, he almost bit his tongue off
Who would ever have predicted that Owen Shaw would wear his name on his back?
Owen was grabbing down a bowl to put popcorn in and Luke could clearly see "HOBBS" written on the hoodie
"Got that?" Luke called out
Pulling the bowl down and turning around, Owen narrowed his eyes
"I can reach stuff," he snapped. "I'm not Deckard."
"True. But you're still pretty small." Luke shrugged
"Compared to your arse, I am." Owen snorted. "Make sure to keep your ego in check, Hobbs."
"Hmm." Luke hummed thoughtfully. "I don't think I can when you're wearing my hoodie."
Owen froze in place at that
"It's warm." He mumbled and booked it out of the kitchen, popcorn and bowl forgotten
"Didn't say you couldn't wear it!" Luke called after him, chuckling
Yet another thing he would regret
---
Now, standing and looking over his wardrobe, all of these memories slammed into him
Not only had he willingly handed his clothing over, he had given clear permission to the Shaw siblings that they could wear it
Looking at his half empty closet, Luke really wished he hadn't
He hadn't seen a hoodie in months, along with his sweaters. Meanwhile, his jerseys and long sleeve shirts had started to disappear as well
Luke was getting sick of having to buy more and more clothing
Because where the fuck was it all going?
Surely the Shaws couldn't be taking all of it
Right?
Shaking his head, Luke left his bedroom and walked into the living room. All shoved onto the large couch were the Shaw siblings
Looking at them closely, Luke's eyes narrowed
They were each wearing one of his hoodies
Deckard was wearing a different DSS hoodie, while Hattie was wearing one of his old wrestling hoodies from college, and Owen was wearing his favorite Lakers hoodie
"Alright." Luke said loudly and stood in front of the siblings. "I didn't think I'd need to do this, but I need to set some ground rules with all of you."
"What's wrong, love?" Deckard asked, a hint of worry in his voice
"What's crawled up your arse and died?" Hattie drawled and shared a smug look with Owen
"You three stilling my shit." Luke snapped at her
"What do you mean?" Deckard questioned. "We don't steal your stuff."
"My clothing?" Luke said dryly
"What does that mean?" Owen snorted
"You're all wearing my hoodies right now!" Luke gestured wildly at the three
"I don't know what you mean." Hattie said, voice entirely too innocent sounding
"Yeah, I think you need your eyes checked, Hobbs." Owen nodded along
Deckard suspiciously said nothing
"Look, I don't know why you're wearing them, but stop taking them. I'm running out of clothes." Luke sighed
"That sounds like a you problem." Hattie shrugged
Luke narrowed his eyes dangerously
None of the Shaws blinked an eye
---
Walking out of his kitchen and holding his and Owen's drinks, Roman could help but keep smiling
It felt like it had been forever since he and Owen have gotten a proper movie night
Roman opened his mouth to ask what Owen wanted to watch first when he spotted his boyfriend standing in the living room
With his back to Roman
That clearly had the name "HOBBS" written on it
Roman froze and nearly dropped the drinks in his hands
He could only stand there and stare
Why the hell was Hobbs' name on his boyfriend?!
The question kept going through his head, going in circles. Until...
"Ro?" Owen called out, taking the drinks from Roman's hands. "You good?"
Roman choked on his words and shook his head
"Hoodie."
Owen frowned
"What about it?"
"Why-why are you wearing it?" Roman yelped
"Because I'm cold...?"
"But why are you wearing Hobbs' hoodie?" Roman nearly shouted. He couldn't help waving his arms for emphasis
Owen's frown deepened. Twisting his back, he looked at the hoodie and blinked
"Oh."
"Oh?!" Roman snapped. "What the hell does that mean, Oh?"
Owen shrugged
"Guess I took it when I was visiting Deck. What's the big deal?"
"You don't wear another man's name on you, Owen!" Roman yelped. "You should be wearing my name!"
"But your jumpers aren't as big." Owen said
"Then I'll buy you big ones!" Roman said exasperated
"Really?"
"Yes!"
"Thanks, babe." Owen smiled and gave him a kiss before sauntering back over to the couch, Hobbs' name still evident on his back
Roman could only shake his head
---
"Hatts?" Ramsey called out, her words almost muffled as she tried to stiffle her laughter. "What the bloody hell are you wearing?"
"A hoodie." Hattie said simply
As if the piece of clothing almost covered half of her body
Curled up in a chair, Ramsey couldn't believe how adorable her girlfriend looked
"But why is it so big?"
"Cause it's Hobbs'." Hattie shrugged
Ramsey nodded. That made since, especially with how big the man was
Looking Hattie over, Ramsey's smile grew bigger
"Want to snag me one sometime?"
Hattie's eyes lit up
"No need. I already have a dozen."
Ramsey could only laugh
~~~
I hope you enjoyed friend!! I love this idea so much!! I will always include the Shaws wearing Luke's clothing in all my fics!
Movies About Writers: 20 Great Examples Of Authors In Cinema
Tumblr media
Best movies about writing: our 20 picks Let’s dive into our 20 picks.
We’ve chosen movies from different genres and ages. Our main criteria is what we already discussed. These movies about famous writers—or fictional ones—take you on a journey. Every movie will teach you something.
1. An Angel at My Table – Jane Campion This 1990 biography of Janet Frame is among Jane Campion’s earliest work. It’s filled with empathy among its three main stages. You’ll see how Janet goes through a troublesome childhood. The film takes you through an erroneous schizophrenia diagnosis, leading to tortuous therapy. However, her work literally saves her, much to our heart’s content.
2. Adaptation – Spike Jonze Jonze’s 2002 amazing comedy has Charlie Kaufman as the main character. Played by Nicolas Cage, he’s working to adapt The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean’s. It deals with topics like writer’s block and drug usage. It’s a crazy tale—definitely one of the best roles by Cage.
3. Providence – Alain Resnais 1977’s Providence is a character study of a novelist’s mind. It’s an astonishing movie about writing at a psychological level. It’s an impressive fim detailing how real-life merges with the work of a writer.
4. Bright Star – Jane Campion If you’re a John Keats reader, this 2009 movie is for you. Jane Campion’s second film on this list is just as amazing as our first entry. Bright Star is more about the romance between Keats and Fanny Brawne. Honestly, it’s one of the sweetest films you’ll ever watch.
5. The Hours – Stephen Daldry Nicole Kidman is simply stunning in this 2002 title. Playing Virginia Woolf, it’s a slow-paced drama that’ll keep you hooked until it ends. It’s a powerful trip into Woolf’s mind as she prepares to meet her fate in the River Ouse.
6. Before Night Falls – Julian Schnabel Schnabel’s 2000 film about Reinaldo Arenas definitely earned its Academy Award nomination. It takes viewers into the shoes of the Cuban writer, but it’s not pretty. It’s a beautiful but infuriating movie about homophobia and political tensions in the 70’s.
7. Misery – Rob Reiner Of course, we can’t leave out this 1990 pioneer of the psychological thriller genre. If you haven’t seen it, you need to stop reading and do it. Kathy Bates kills this movie as the kidnapper of a famous writer. It’s a mind-blowing movie about writing and addiction that everyone should see at least once.
8. The Motorcycle Diaries – Walter Salles Somewhat similar to Schnable’s film, this one is also very political. However, it’s a great character study of Che Guevara before his uprising. It’s a retelling of his diary entries while he was still studying medicine. He wrote these as he travelled with his best friend around South America. It details how he grew his political ideals.
9. Shakespeare In Love – John Madden If you want light-hearted films about writers, this 1998 title is a must-watch. It details how Shakespeare got his inspiration for some of his greatest work. It’s hilarious while still winning over your heart.
10. The Shining – Stanley Kubrick We’re back with Stephen King now. Horror movies about writers aren’t too common. However, 1980’s The Shining more than makes up for it. It pictures the quick descent into madness for Jack Torrance. It quickly goes from a creepy movie about writer’s block to a spiral of frantic and horrific scenes, one after the other.
11. Reprise – Joachim Trier The 2006 film, Reprise, is a lovely story about success, struggle, and friendship. It takes unexpected twists and turns. You can’t really expect what’s about to throw at you. It’s also the perfect French new wave experience.
12. The World According To Garp – George Roy Hill Any film with Robin Williams is a great experience. This 1982 movie is one of the best films about writers if you’re looking for a twist. We’ll just say Garp is the main character. He’s a novelist. But, his mother is the one finding success. It’s also an interesting look into gender roles released almost four decades ago.
13. Midnight in Paris – Woody Allen Despite how you might feel about Allen, this 2011 film is great. It features Owen Wilson at its charmest. It’s also very nostalgic, and sometimes hilarious, in all the right ways. If you’re an aspiring writer, it might become one of your favorite movies.
14. Kill Your Darlings – John Krokidas Daniel Radcliffe spearheads this 2013 drama, which is a good sign. This film is interesting because it depicts incredibly successful artists. Yet, the plot is elsewhere. The main story follows a murder mystery. It’s perfect if you’re looking for twists and intricate plots.
15. The Royal Tenenbaums – Wes Anderson We have another film with Owen Wilson. Combined with Gwyneth Paltrow, they depict a depressed family. It’s hardly as sad as it sounds, though. Wilson’s character is an amazing parody of masculinity, and the film will make you smile often. The duo is simply perfect here.
16. The Pillow Book – Peter Greenaway This 1996 is actually about one of the oldest records of a “book.” It depicts a deep story about obsession, poetry, writing, and lust. It builds on Sei Shonagon’s (the original author) ideas to create one of the craziest art films ever.
17. Sylvia – Christine Jeffs Sylvia is one of the most interesting movies about writers. It’s basically the only true biopic, yet they failed to get her poetry’s rights. As is, it’s a beautiful film with a great mood. It might not be for everyone, but Plath readers should definitely give it a chance.
18. My Brilliant Career – Gillian Armstrong This 1979 film plays a surprising twist on the love triangle trope. The protagonist is a woman struggling to choose between two men. However, she goes for a much more promising third option. You just have to see the rest to find out more.
19. Sunset Boulevard – Billy Wilder We just had to include this 50’s film since noir and writers go hand-in-hand. It tells the tale of a faded star and an unsuccessful screenwriter, Joe Gillis. They end up together thanks to mere promises of stardom. That said, the film does begin with Gillis’ dead body. Why is it there? You’ll have to find out.
20. Certified Copy – Abbas Kiarostami If you enjoy pseudo-fourth-wall-breaking meta-commentary, then this film is for you. The film kicks off by telling us that authenticity in art is irrelevant. From there, it’s a unique experience you simply need to watch.
HERE IS ANOTHER LIST
I would also add:
21. Can You Ever Forgive Me? -  Marielle Heller  Melissa McCarthy stars in this  true story of writer Lee Israel, who, despite being an accomplished author, earned the legacy of “forger” after embarking on a side career of writing fake letters from literary figures and selling them to collectors. The script is based on Israel’s memoir of the same name, and the story picks up in 1991, when she has fallen on hard times both financially and professionally. Through the forgeries, Israel finds a new way to both make money and restore a sense of pride in her work.
This is a prompt from @doep1csh1t
Amelia gets sick (your choice with what) while living at the hospital in season 12 (after Mer kicked her out and she fought with Owen, before Mer’s attack). Maybe Jo and Alex find her and take care of her until Maggie can come help.
THIS TOOK ME WAY TOO LONG IM SO SORRY!! i’ll try to be more active now that my school works done. There’s some jolex here too :)
tw//suicidal thoughts
Let Me Help You
My eyes burned. My throat burned. My head burned. Everything was on fire. I sent everything up in flames. Again. Of course I did.
I was doing good, after derek’s death, after Mer came home. I was with Owen, kind of. I was happy, I laughed, I smiled, I joked.
And now I was in a supply closet sobbing. Hugging a bottle of vodka I took from someone’s locker.
After I yelled at Meredith and she kicked me out, I felt empty, hallow. I went down to the clinic to avoid anybody that I had ever talked with. Which wasn’t a good idea considering it was the beginning of the flu season and people were spitting up germs left and right. I felt horrible. I couldn’t tell if that’s because i’ve been sobbing my heart out or coughing up my lungs for the past hour.
The only thing stopping me from downing the entire bottle was how physically bad I felt. I really wanted to but I was exhausted, my chest was heavy and I couldn’t get my head to lift past the cold floor. What if I was dying? That’d be good. I would see Derek, my dad, Mark, i’d get to know Lexie better. And my son. What if I just died? It would be better then facing whatever mysterious deadly disease I contracted. I try to push myself off the floor but the world spins and another harsh coughing fit forces me back down. Well I guess this is how god wants me to die. Slow, and painfully. Like my life. No, no. There’s no god. No god would take away every ounce of happiness in my life. Nobody in the right state of mind would do it. Well, maybe god has a giant inoperable glioma. Then I guess I could forgive it.
My chest stings, so does my throat. I want to go home, run a hot bath and snuggle into bed, but I don’t have a home. I’m homeless. This wouldn’t be the first time. Hell, it wouldn’t be the second.
The door of the supply closet opens but I have no strength to move. I start crying even harder, tears blur my vision. I know whoever this is going on to think I’m some sort of crazy lady on the floor of a supply closet hugging an unopened bottle of vodka.
“Docter Shepherd?” someone asks, I hear the door shut behind them. I hear concern in their voice and it makes me cry harder. “Do you want me to go?”
I open my eyes and notice Wilson still standing by the door, her hand still on the handle. If she left, I’d be alone, I shouldn’t be alone right now. I shake my head and she starts to grab a few things, as she turns to leave she asks, “Do you need anything?” I start coughing again and crying.
“Don’t go,”’I beg softly, “Please,”
“I’m on Dr. Avery’s service today, I’m sorry but I need to get back. Do you want me to get somebody? Maybe Dr. Grey?” The thought of Meredith seeing she successfully hurt me panic more.
“No, no, please no. I’ll tell him I needed you,” I just wanted someone to hug me and tell me I wasn’t alone. It made me weak and pathetic but i’ve moved way passed the line of giving a fuck about what people think about me.
Jo closed and locked the door. She walked over to me and slowly slid down to my level.
“Alex proposed,” She said softly, I could trace a tear falling out of her eye. “I would do anything to say yes, but I can’t, I love him more then anybody. But I legally can’t,”
I don’t know what she means but I have no right to judge her so I just reach my hand out. Jo grabs it and just the simple human touch makes me start to sob again. And crying made me cough.
“Dr. Shepherd—”
“Amelia,” I interject between my body trying to jack up my lungs,
“Amelia, that cough really doesn’t sound good,” she runs her hand up and down my back in attempt of making my coughs slow down.
Eventually they do. Jo looks down at me with watery eyes and puts her overly cool hand on my forehead. Jo, I’m dying let it happen.
“Dr.-, Amelia. You have a fever,”
“Wilson, death is calling let it happen.”
“Amelia, I don’t think your dying. You probably just caught a bad case of bronchitis.”
I started crying again. I didn’t know if it was relief, embarrassment for thinking I was going to die, or regret for being sick but not dying.
I curl up into a ball, You’re being so weak, Meredith would be laughing her ass off at you if she could see it. My internal monologue is the death of me. I start laughing at the absurd conversation accruing in my head.
Jo sighs, “I can take you home, back to Dr. Grey’s?”
“No, no, no, no,”
“Okay, I’m working over shift and someone’s probably taken care of what I’m supposed to do,”
I took out my phone and texted Jackson that Jo was needed with me. I sat up as I continued to cough, even though every cell in my body wanted me to lie back down, I needed more oxygen. Jo sat there and just rubbed my back.
“I’ll take you back to Alex’s okay? So you can rest? Its the safest place for now I guess,”
I nodded and leaned back against her. My sweaty body against her cool one caused a set of chills to run through me.
“Okay, Amelia, let’s get you home,”
Jo lifted me up under my armpits and I slumpt against her. We walked out into the bright hallway, I heard people’s voices but they were muffled from my fever. I knew they were talking about me. I started to silently sob as we walked.
“It’s okay Amelia, we’re almost there. Hold on,”
—————————————————————————————————————
“I’ve been driving around looking for you for the past hour!” I heard someone yell, he sounded hurt.
“I was at Grey Sloan! And why were you chasing me around?”
“Well why did you bring Amelia back here? Did you kidnap her?”
“Alex, Look at her. How could I just leave her there? I found her crying in a supply closet coughing up her lungs.”
“Jo, why didn’t you just call Meredith?”
“She didn’t want me to!”
“What about Maggie!”
“Could you guys kindly shut the fuck up, or go outside? My head is killing me.” I said hoarsely, coughing a few times.
“I’m sorry,” they whispered,
“Amelia,” Jo walked up to me, “Can I call Maggie?”
“No,” I shook my head,
“Amelia-” Alex jumped in,
Jo whispered something to Alex and then went to the bathroom to get something, my chest burned too much to care.
“I’m sorry,” I coughed, “For making you lie to Meredith and have me infect everything around you with germs,”
“It’s no trouble,” Jo answered, “Alex just went outside to make a call,”
“Oh my god,” I sat up, coughing more, “Oh god this must be so awkward,”
“Lie down, and let’s not talk about it, maybe?” she stuck a thermometer into my mouth before I had the chance to respond,
“Rude,” I teased,
“Very mature of an attending like your self,” she put a teeshirt and sweatpants in front of me, “Put those on in a sec,”
The thermometer beeped, “101.3,” I started to put it on the coffee table but Jo snatched it out of my hands, “You’re pretty bossy for a resident,”
She scoffed, “You’re pretty immature for an attending sooo,” This made me laugh, so it made me cough. Jo sat down next to me and started to rub my back, a sorry attempt to calm my lungs down. “Yeah, that’s bronchitis. Change! Then get in the bed, don’t argue, I’m not ratting you out to your sisters like I should!”
The smile on my face immediately faded, “Meredith’s not my sister.”
“That’s arguable-”
“I don’t wanna talk about it,” I knew she was huge mood killer, that Jo was just trying to get me to laugh.
“Change, then get into the bed. I’m going to set up a humidifier and maybe we can watch a movie?”
I nodded as I finished changing into Jo’s clothes I jumped onto their bed.
“Maggie still has awhile ‘till her shift is over, so your stuck with us for the rest of tonight!” Alex exclaimed, closing the door as he reentered the loft. I couldn’t tell if he was being sarcastic or not.
“Karev, is that fake enthusiasm I’m hearing?” I mutter softly, my eyes slipping shut.
“WHAT!! Of course not!!” I laugh at his response,
“Okay Evilspawn,” I mutter, it made alex laugh. Once everything was quiet, my lungs were the loudest thing in the room. No doubt about it, they were struggling.
“Alex,” Jo asked, setting the humidifier down next to me, “Could you get a nebulizer from the hospital, just in case she might need it,”
”She probably will,” Alex muttered. Just then, I started coughing. Harsh, echoey coughs that made it almost impossible to breathe with.
“Okay, let’s sit you up.” Jo pushed me up and sat behind me as I coughed into my elbow. “Deep breaths, deep breaths.”
“Alex try to hurry up with the nebulizer. I’m gonna order something from the deli across the street so just pick it up on your way back.”
Alex nodded and hurried out. “Do you want noodles in your chicken soup?” I nodded, snuggling closer to her, “I’m making them make it spicy, since supposedly that’ll help the congestion in your lungs-”
I didn’t get to here what else Jo had said because I had just fallen asleep on the spot.
—————————————————————————————————————
“I’m your sister!” I scream,
“You are not my sister. Cristina is my sister. You are Derek’s sister, and derek is gone.” Meredith’s voice echoed. Of everything she has said to me, this one might’ve hurt true most.
“Dr. Grey, I changed the mediastinal drains—” Penny barged in,
“GET OUT!” I yell, “Is this why you hate me? ‘Cause I remind you of him? Does it help you to hate me?”
I’m suddenly shaken out of my nightmare,
“Amelia! Amelia, hey. You’re shaking,” Alex looked at me concerned, “I thought it was your bronchitis but it was just a nightmare. What happened? Were you chased by a giant rubber ducky and thrown into a pool of ice?” he snorts,
“No I was chased by Medusa,” I replied hoarsely, It was then when I realized the uncomfortable nebulizer on my face and tore it off,
“Are you feeling up to eating something?” Jo asked sweetly from the kitchen,
“Umm, yeah. Could I have some of that?” I reached my hand out to alex who was eating some cheap delicious looking chips,
“Fine but you have to have some soup too,” Jo started preparing it while I leaned forward and snatch the bag of takis from alex. This was depressingly hard to do as I put my hands above my head to try and catch my wheezy breath.
“Dude, your pretty fucking desperate for some takis,”
“You’re not as funny as you think you are,” I cough,
“He knows he just doesn’t care,” Jo laughed,
“Let’s watch a movie,” Alex interrupted, jumping to grab his computer, “How about a horror movie?”
“Fine, but nothings scary anymore. Like i’ve watched all the scary ones all ready,” I reply,
“He always gets scared,” Jo adds,
“I think your talking about yourself,” Alex shoots her a look.
I suddenly start coughing harshly, too harshly. Jo hurries up to me and puts the nebulizer back over my mouth, motioning for me to lie back down.
“How about we just let you rest?” I nod slowly, drifting off into a feverish dreamland.
—————————————————————————————————————
I wake up and feel someone stroking my head, I’m pretty sure I had just slept awhile but I didn’t feel much better. I push away whoever’s touching my head as it makes it pound harder.
“Amelia, hey, you’re awake!” Maggie says softly,
“Ugh, where am I?” I ask groggily,
“Back home, at Meredith’s,”
“What?” I sit up, “I can’t be here!”
“Amelia, it’s okay. Your sick, you need to rest,” Almost on que, I started coughing harshly. Maggie handed me a tissue to spit up some phlegm in.
“Meredith hates me though,” I layed back down on her lap, “I shouldn’t be here,”
“Well Meredith will get off her high horse when she sees how deathly pale and sick you are, huh?”
“Meredith will get off her-” Mer barged into Maggie’s room, “Amelia! What are you doing-, are you okay?”
I give her a thumbs up and cough quietly,
“She’s fine, but let’s not kick each other out, how about that?”
Meredith paled at Maggie’s accusation, obviously regretting what she said. But it was my fault, I pushed her too far. I knew it as I said it.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” I looked her in the eyes,
“No, no, save your breath,” She sat down next to me and rubbed my back,
“We’re sisters,” Maggie said, “Come on let’s say it together,”
“We’re sisters,” me and Mer muttered,
“Ugh good enough.” Maggie said.
It made me smile.
An Odd Family Tree
A series of snippets from the lives of the FitzSimmons family, set post 7x13. Also, the series of events that leads up to the birth of their grandson.
Available to read on AO3 and FF.net.
Comments make my day!
Chapter 5: Permission
Leo Fitz loved football. It was his thing. He used to play in the local field with a bunch of other boys when he was little- that’s before he started to spend every free hour of every day engineering. So about eleven years old then. And since they’d retired he’d taken a huge step back from engineering and fallen back with his first love. Seriously, if anyone asked him a simple question about football he would probably ramble about it for at least two hours.
“Knock knock!”
Oh, and another thing about football: he did not like getting interrupted.
He adjusted his position to sit up on the sofa. “If that’s anyone that’s not called Owen then come in!”
Of course, it was Owen who entered.
“Hi Mr Fitz-Simmons.” He greeted, somewhat meekly.
Fitz didn’t respond.
“Oh hey, you’re watching soccer. Can I join you?”
“Not if you call it soccer.” Fitz grumbled. Owen just laughed and sat next to him anyway.
If there was one thing that Fitz had learnt about Owen over the year of him dating Alya, it was that he could not shut up. And that was not an exaggeration. Fitz was pretty convinced that if the man went five minutes without saying something then he would quite possibly explode.
So it was unnerving to say the least when all he did was fidget next to him. He appeared to be concentrating on the screen, but when Fitz looked closely he could see that his eyes weren’t entirely focused.
He must’ve been deep in thought. Fitz didn’t even want to consider what the hell he was thinking about.
“So… you a big s- football guy then?” Owen asked eventually, making Fitz actually sigh in relief.
“Yes.” Was his short reply.
“Cool.”
Uncomfortable silence. Fitz felt like the other man was plotting something. He did not like it.
Owen took a deep breath. “Hey-”
“You do know I don’t like you, right?”
Letting out a choked sort of laugh, Owen hung his head and said quietly: “Really? I hadn’t noticed.”
“You’ve got no common sense,” Fitz continued, “and half the time I genuinely can’t tell if you’re faking your stupidity or not.
And I can never forgive you for taking my daughter away from me, Fitz doesn’t add.
“Look, I know you hate me.” Owen said, his voice still strangely quieter than usual.
It suddenly occurred to Fitz that Owen might be unwell. And even he, a cold-hearted miser according to Alya once, would feel guilty for insulting someone when they’re ill.
“Hate’s a strong word.” He told him. “I don’t hate you lad, but I think it would be crueler to lie and pretend to like you like Jemma does.”
Owen seemed to react at this, and Fitz wondered if he was really so dumb as to not realise that Jemma didn’t like him either.
“She doesn’t?” He asked, confirming Fitz’s theory.
And there was that guilty feeling again. “Well she definitely likes you more than I do. We love Alya with everything we have, and we only want the best for her. And whatever she says, I for one couldn’t care less if my daughter doesn’t end up with you. Now don’t you have somewhere better to be?”
Fitz realised a little too late that he’d phrased that wrong, and for once he actually hoped that Owen wouldn’t pick up on the subtext.
“I love her too, y’know.” Owen said dejectedly. “And I came here to ask you something. But I’m a little put off now if I’m honest…”
On-screen, it was half-time. Fitz tried to relay the fact that Owen was ill over and over in his head to stop himself from punching him.
“If answering your question will make you go away, then sure. Ask away.” He said, taking a sip of his tea.
Owen took a deep breath and looked Fitz in the eyes. Fitz noticed for the first time just how bright, green, and honest they were.
“Will you give me your blessing to marry your daughter?”
He did not do a spit take. That never happened. But it was funny, for a second Fitz could have sworn Owen just said…
“What?”
“You heard me.” Owen said, and suddenly Fitz realised why Owen had sounded off.
He’d been nervous- no, terrified of him. This entire time he’d been trying to muster as much confidence as he could. And the fact that he’d been scared meant that he respected him.
And Fitz didn’t know how to feel. He felt like he’d just been shot in the heart but the pain hadn’t registered yet.
He coughed. “W-Well, you’ve got nerve, I’ll tell you that.” He did not wipe the liquid off his chin, because he did not do a spit take. “After I just told you how much I don’t like you.”
Owen laughed, a bit more menacing this time. “I hope you know that I’ll propose to her whatever you say. It’s just that you three are so close that I thought I’d ask for your blessing.”
The implications started to sink in. “Wait, you’re being serious?”
This man, this hooligan, was asking to marry his little monkey. His princess. His universe. His Alya. The girl whose nappies he changed. The girl to whom he showed the stars. The girl who he tried to teach engineering to, but ended up taking after her mother and studying biology and becoming one of the leading experts in marine biology and was running an entire initiative to save the oceans.
The woman that had just turned thirty.
Ever since Owen, Alya had fought with him a lot more frequently. She would always defend him, telling her father that it was his fault that he didn’t just give him a chance to get to know him. Fitz didn’t change his stance. And maybe, Fitz thought, if he’d taken that chance, then he would be able to see Alya’s appeal in Owen. Her love for him hadn’t wavered, and any fights she’d had with Owen had all been resolved very quickly. Was it really only Fitz that felt so negatively towards him?
“Hey, um, before you answer let me say something.” Owen said.
“I know I’m reckless and stupid. I get that from my parents. But when I’m standing next to literally the smartest family on the planet, how can I not be? I think you think I’m ‘the worst’ (yes, I heard that) because of that, when in reality I’m just average. I was shocked when Alya loved me back, because she is the definition of a genius, and I’m just… me. I’m Owen. The guy nobody likes.”
Fitz listened on in silence, every word striking him as familiar.
...Deke.
“And I tried so hard to impress you,” Owen continued, “even though you guys already know everything. It’s impossible to impress you. The one thing that impresses me is the fact that Alya still likes me after so long. So yeah, I understand if you say no, but I love your daughter and I’m actually pretty good at fighting so I’m willing to die for her. I’ve been told that I can be pretty selfish, and I agree, but not when it comes to Alya. She’s my everything.”
Wordlessly, Fitz switched off the TV. Football could come later. He didn’t know when his eyes had started to well up, but he knew that his vision was now blurry. He had to swallow the lump in his throat.
“You have my blessing.”
Owen nearly jumped out of his seat. “Wait, really?!”
Fitz’s breathing was shaky, and he held his head in his hands. “Yes.” He said, his voice muffled. “Now go before I change my mind.”
It was comical how quickly Owen raced out of the room.
Jemma walked in moments later.
“Darling what’s wrong? What did you say to Owen this time?”
“I told him to bugger off.” Fitz said, looking up to face his confused wife.
“Really? Is that-”
“Jemma.” He interrupted, his voice breaking. “He asked for my blessing.”
Jemma’s face went through a whirlwind of emotions in a tiny amount of time like a silent movie.
“O-Oh.” She said finally. “Did you..?”
“Yeah.” Said Fitz. “But Jemma, he sounded just like Deke.”
Both of them flinched at the name.
He sighed. “Is it bad that the main thing I remember was that I couldn’t stand him?”
“Yes, it is.” Jemma said, moving to sit next to her husband and rub his back soothingly. She was beginning to get choked up herself. “I remember that he was lovely. His memory is what lets me tolerate Owen.”
She wiped away the tears that threatened to fall from his eyes.
“I think you need to start at least tolerating him now, too.”
Fitz did the same for his wife.
“Yeah, I guess I’m gonna have to now.”
GARVEZ STORIES
Then you ask me how I am and your smile turns off the torments and questions to feel good, to feel bad, to torture me, to ask me... why...
*active faults
Neither of them remembers much of the trip by car. They didn't hold hands, they didn't speak, sing, anything. But neither did they change their mind, not even her. She had gone too far to screw it up now. She had already compromised, maybe she had even violated some protocol... And this would have simply made the whole story more intriguing.
After he have parked, however, Luke quickly goes around the car and helps her get off. They hold hands, until they reach the door of his apartment. They are both nervous, agitated and worried that the other may get stuck and ruin everything. They should have stayed where they were. Certain atmospheres cannot be artificially recreated. It will probably be a disaster and she will have to take a taxi. And tomorrow to wear a turtleneck sweater.
Once the door is closed, however, Luke leans her against it gently, immediately resuming kissing her, with the same passion. Penelope pushes him away enough to be able to get her hands under his shirt and caresses his muscles, his sweaty skin, leaving a few pinches. After a few minutes they move on the sofa, first sitting as if they were about to watch a movie, but then lying down, she is smiling triumphantly over him, not at all embarrassed or worried about crushing him, as had always happened to her in these situations. He reads her mind and with a move acquired during work, reverses the situation. They struggle for a while and in the course of this clash they take turns losing a garment, until they remain almost naked. Fearing that she might get cold he looks into her eyes, telepathically asking her if she prefers to go to the bedroom.
They reach it quickly. Penelope expected to see disorder from a man who lives alone, but then realizes, in one of the few rational moments of the evening, that he is not that kind of person. The bed is perfectly redone, the sheets seem clean and fragrant, but he couldn't have known, no, he hadn't decided in advance. She lets herself lie down and pulls him towards her. He lifts her and slips with her under the covers. This is down a first boundary between lover and loved one, difficult to explain the difference, but there is. When he runs a hand down her leg, he realizes that something has changed. Penelope shows him her panties, twirling them before throwing them away, with a mix of embarrassment and mischief that shocks him. He almost tears away his own. But and this again makes a huge difference, he looks at her one last time in the eyes, before taking the next step. She nods. Green light. She digs her fingernails in his back as a precaution and it's good, because as soon as he starts to enter, he tears away all the oxygen from her lungs. Luke considers her reaction without personal pride, simply ecstatic to be able to give her the same pleasure that she gives him. He takes a while before being completely inside, then he stops and looks at her, once again, immediately catching her eyes. And you said I wasn't anyone special.
To avoid letting herself miss too crazy statements, Penelope pushes him toward herself and begins to kiss him. The man agrees, especially for the way her mouth opens, in perfect synchrony with the movement of their hips. Not once does she think of Morgan or Kevin. Not once does he think of Dalia.
She goes along with him, changing the angle, but exaggerates, so much so that at some point she is forced to pull her mouth away from his to let go of a series of moans that also include his name. Every now and then Luke hugs her, lifting her from the mattress and rocking her, without stopping to penetrate her.
Luke also stammers her name and in his head, much more frightening things, things he never wanted, things he didn't believe he was cut for. Things that would upset Phil too. They look each other in the eyes for a third time, before reaching maximum pleasure and collapsing together, embraced, tired and panting.
Fears also return with strength. After a century he gets up and she looks almost fearfully at his naked body reaching the wardrobe and pulling out what looks like pajamas. It is time to go away. She sits up, bending over to find her clothes, but not hurry enough to avoid being caught and stopped. Luke reaches her in a few steps, almost running, always naked, but she can't look at anything other than his eyes so serious. He challenges her to continue and she does but stops as soon as he touches her arm. She moves her lips without make a sound, but he knows how to read and understand them. Why. As the only answer, he squeezes her for a few moments. Then he peels off, passing her a garment. One of his t-shirts of a larger size. She wears it, signing the surrender. After settling down, they slide under the covers again. They kiss for a while longer, with less tension, but not less intensity. Then Penelope turns away, but Luke rolls her up to his arms, wrapping his own around her waist. She rests her head on his chest, but it takes long before she stops shaking and falls asleep. This is the second difference between lover and loved one: staying after "sex".
Hii I'm new to the Fandom and I'm obsessed with your blog! I ADORE your point of view really its making me love star wars more and more, my question is do you have any recommendations on which books to read to understand more about the lore and where cannon is right now??
Hi!  I’m glad if I can help you like SW lore more and thank you for such kind words, I deeply appreciate them.  And, oh, what a tricky question that is, without meaning to be!A lot depends on which part of the SW lore you’re looking for–are you looking for technical terms or character backstory tidbits?  Lore on Force woo?  The stories that help better inform the structure of Star Wars?  Because I feel like my answers would be different for each of those!So, I’m going to do a “here’s what I think is the best places to start when getting into SW supplementary material” list:1.  THE TV SERIESIf you haven’t watched The Clone Wars and Rebels yet, those should be first on your list!  TCW is there to help give you the bigger picture of just how awful the Clone Wars were, how politics dragged everything down into the mud, and will give you a ton of feelings on established characters.  I’m currently in the middle of a rewatch and its kicking up all these feelings I had and you can really tell that this is what George Lucas’ world looks like when they have the time to explore it.  (Though, hell, even with this show, it only covers things in broad strokes, especially because it is still aimed at younger audiences, too.)And Rebels is just a really great series by itself, but it also does a fantastic job of showing you just how complicated the war against the Empire was, how hard it was to wind together these various minor factions into one bigger Rebellion, as well as it does a lot to show what it’s like for Jedi after the genocide of their people.  It also has some killer cameos and resolution to things started in TCW and moments of confrontation for all the characters.Both of those really only have minor moments of exploring the Force Woo Lore (but there’s really not one singular place that explains it, imo, it’s something you have to piece together to see the bigger picture), but they’re fantastic for echoing the narrative structure of Star Wars and its themes.2.  THE COMICSThey’re the next best stop, they are also really great stories in terms of the character arcs, as well as the next best place to get more on the themes of Star Wars.  There have been so many moments, more than anywhere else, that I have wanted to just absolutely (virtually) SCREAM, because HOLY SHIT THAT WAS A HELL OF A MOMENT or HOLY SHIT THAT UNDERSTOOD STAR WARS SO WELL or just had really amazing moments.  I would recommend starting with:- The Star Wars 2015 comic (by Jason Aaron) and read it concurrently with Darth Vader vol. 1 (by Kieron Gillen), as they’re meant to go together.- Then read Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith (by Charles Soule)- After that, in any order:  Age of the Republic comics (by Jody Houser), Obi-Wan & Anakin (by Charles Soule), Jedi of the Republic - Mace Windu (by Matt Owens), and Kanan: The Last Padawan (by Greg Wiseman).- I also really enjoy the Star Wars Adventures comics from IDW, the Poe Dameron comics (by Charles Soul) are incredible and give a lot of context to the sequel trilogy and Shattered Empire does a lot in the same vein.3.  THE NOVELSNovels are trickier, because some are good for lore but aren’t necessarily stories I would recommend to new fans, others are amazing stories but don’t necessarily have a lot of lore.  So, I’m going to focus on the books that I think do the most bridge work and help you understand the bigger picture of Star Wars:- The Star Wars Battlefront II video game (okay, not a book, bear with me) does an amazing job of giving more context to how the Empire ended and how it connected to the First Order.  You can do a search on YouTube for “Battlefront 2 game movie” or similar search parameters and watch it like a movie, it’s about two hours and it’s wonderful.  Fall in love with the characters with me, understand why Jakku was important, and get some amazing cameos (and stunning planets) for the OT trio!- The Aftermath trilogy by Chuck Wendig also does a ton of showing how the Empire’s fall wasn’t instantaneous after Endor’s moon, as well as the faltering early steps of the New Republic, and a ragtag bunch who hunt down Imperial war criminals and all come to love each other AND I LOVE THEM, sobs.  I would add in the caveat that I think these work massively better as audiobooks, so check if your library has them and maybe you can check them out on-line and be prepared to give the books a little time to grow on you.- Bloodline by Claudia Gray shows Leia six years before TFA and the New Republic still faltering and how she discovers the early origins of the First Order and loses her position in the Senate and starts up the Resistance.  It’s at its best when it’s a Leia book, but it also does do a lot of groundwork for the connections between the OT and the ST!- From a Certain Point of View by various authors, is a collection of short stories, many of which are hits and many of which are misses, but the hits are amazing.  If nothing else, “Master & Apprentice” (by Claudia Gray–not to be confused with the full novel of the same title), “Time of Death” (by Cavan Scott), “There Is Another” (by Gary D. Shmidt), and “An Incident Report” (by Daniel Mallory Ortberg) are all MUST READS.  I read all of them and I’m glad I did, but if a story isn’t gripping you, feel free to skim over it for the next, they’re only connected by theme, not events.- I loved both Spark of the Resistance (by Justina Ireland) and Resistance Reborn (by Rebecca Roanhorse) as books set between TLJ and TROS, where I grew even more fond of the characters getting to have adventures together.  I also thought the Dooku: Jedi Lost audiodrama was probably the best PT era canon book to recommend, too.4.  THE GUIDEBOOKSGuidebooks are more fun when you’re already invested and just want to look up a thing or two, but there’s at least one that I think is a must-read from cover to cover:  Star Wars Propaganda: A History of Persuasive Art in the Galaxy by Pablo Hidalgo.  It doesn’t sound like it would be that interesting–a history told through art?  But it’s an absolutely stellar bird’s eye view and explanation of how things happened in the GFFA, how the Clone Wars happened, how the Republic fell, how the Empire rose, how the Rebellion fought back, how the New Republic rose, how the First Order knocked it all down again.5.  ANYTHING ELSE?I love the game Jedi: Fallen Order and I think it does an amazing job of staying true to the Jedi Order, their culture, and the themes of Star Wars.  You can do the same thing of looking for a movie-version on YouTube, it should be about four hours long to cover the majority of the game, and I absolutely fell in love with the characters and the world, it was clear they really cared about the story and the lore and making this feel like a game where you got to experience becoming a Jedi.This isn’t a list of “stories I thought were good” but ones aimed at establishing the best understanding of the bigger galaxy, as well as stories that I thought were really good for new fans!  While I put them generally in the order I would suggest them, if something’s not working for you, feel free to drop it and move on to another thing, either coming back later to the dropped one or not, because this should be fun and not boring work.HOPEFULLY THAT’S A GOOD PLACE TO GET YOU STARTED and if someone else would suggest a good Starting Place For A New Fan, feel free to chime in!
How Camp Cretaceous Connects to the Jurassic World Canon
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
The following contains spoilers for Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous.
At first glance, Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous doesn’t seem to fit in with the violent PG-13 dinosaur rampage thrillers we’ve come to expect from the Jurassic Park franchise. Its comical and lighthearted approach to storytelling and character development, not to mention the fact that it is (rather beautifully) animated, makes it seem as though this was meant to be a spinoff franchise similar to Lego Jurassic World. But as the story of six teenagers beta testing Jurassic World’s new adventure camp attraction unfolds, it becomes clear that Camp Cretaceous is not only canon, but could introduce elements that may influence future plotlines.
Camp Cretaceous begins a few days before the events of Jurassic World, but even before the Indominus rex escapes and the timelines officially converge, there are tons of references to the movies. (I love that Mr. DNA makes an appearance in the video game Darius is playing.) Dr. Sattler and Dr. Grant, played by Laura Dern and Sam Neill in Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III are mentioned as having written articles lately, both on the subject of fossils, rather than real live dinosaurs.
And it is revealed that Bryce Dallas Howard’s Jurassic World character Claire Dearing’s nephews were never going to spend much time with their aunt that day, as she had intended for them to go to Camp Cretaceous rather than with her assistant Zara. But the campers’ shenanigans (namely ending up in the raptor pen and being involved in a stampede) overwhelm counselors Dave and Roxie; they need more staff, especially if more children are going to join them.
Though this change of plan may have turned out well for Claire, as her nephews would not have been present to give her that much needed moment of inspiration to release the Tyrannosaurus at the end of Jurassic World, it had rather disastrous consequences for Zara, who probably wouldn’t have been eaten by the park’s Mosasaurus if she wasn’t playing babysitter.
But the established Jurassic characters are not limited to mere references and unheard voices on the other end of a phone call, because our old friend/enemy Dr. Henry Wu (played by B.D. Wong in the movies but voiced by Greg Chun in Camp Cretaceous) makes an appearance when the kids visit the genetics lab. He’s in a hurry, getting ready for Simon Masrani’s visit to view the new exhibit. But of course he has time to show off for all of camper Brooklynn’s Internet followers.
The genetics lab is also where we get to meet Bumpy, the most precious little asymmetrical Ankylosaurus the world has ever seen. Not that he stays little for long; Wu tells the teens that the baby dinosaurs are designed for accelerated growth. This is a known fact in the books written by Michael Crichton, but is only mentioned in the movies in regards to the Indominus rex.
Also of note in the lab: a mysterious eyeball specimen that is never really explained, and a frozen mammoth specimen. Woolly mammoths, along with other extinct non-dinosaur creatures such as Dimetrodon and Smilodon, are featured in some of the Jurassic Park games, so perhaps this is a nod to that. Or, you know, foreshadowing that it’s possible to clone things that aren’t dinosaurs…things like little girls named Maisie, as seen in Fallen Kingdom.
A lab worker named Eddie hints that he worked for “the other guys” but never explains what he means by this. Combined with the revelation that Sammy, one of the teenagers, was sent to the island as a spy for Masrani’s rival bioengineering company Mantah Corp, this would seem to suggest that there might be another company out there trying to clone dinosaurs. It will be interesting to see if that has any bearing on the events of Jurassic World: Dominion.
Despite a few misadventures and near-death experiences with a Carnotaurus (possibly the same one from Fallen Kingdom seen outside the Lockwood Manor, the one with the scars on his face), everything is going pretty good with the first group of Camp Cretaceous campers. But this is Jurassic World, and we all know that the good times were not going to last.
The children are never the center of the action that we see in Jurassic World, but they are often on the periphery. After her escape, it would seem that our girl Indominus rex might have caused a little more–all right, a lot more–death and destruction than we realized, terrorizing the kids and eating some park personnel before going back to terrorize Claire and Owen and eating… other park personnel.
But it’s not just the kids getting to experience the fun (sure, let’s call it fun) that is the Jurassic World incident. During the beginning of Indominus’s rampage, when Owen is watching the team’s heart monitors blink off to indicate each death, counselors Dave and Roxie have a similar moment of horror as walkie-talkie after walkie-talkie turn from screaming to static. When Simon Masrani’s helicopter crashes, we realize just how close the six main characters have been to the events we see in the movie. It’s almost identical to the live action version as the copter tumbles through the air and smashes into the aviary.
Though events occur at the same time and on the same island, Camp Cretaceous is not telling the same story as Jurassic World. The campers are trying to survive a different set of catastrophes than Owen and Claire, and they have their own stories to tell. After the first incident at Jurassic Park, and especially after the whole San Diego fiasco, the world was introduced to dinosaurs as something more than fossils. Darius, Ben, Sammy, Kenji, Yasmina, and Brooklynn have literally never known life without cloned dinosaurs in it.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Does that give them a different perspective than the adults? Does it give them a better chance of survival? Let’s hope so, because with the way season one ends, it looks like Isla Nublar isn’t done with our campers.
Okay once more with feeling, with the characters being at the ages they would be in 2020 as opposed to the series, how would the characters of Stranger Things react to the COVID-19/Coronavirus Pandemic? I will include my theories.
Eleven: Stocked up on Eggos and other ingredients, uses recovered psychic powers to keep an eye on the Party and her in-laws, tells her and Mikes’ kids to lay off of Eggos.
Jim Hopper: The cabin is newly constructed, he lives off the land, Facetimes with Joyce, constructed some booby traps (letting the Party know), planting signs informing at-risk people live there.
Ives Sisters: Ordering in and sanitizing everything and in contact with Eleven and the kids as they are senior citizens, Mikes’ and Elevens’ eldest (who is into clean eating and going to college nearby) stays with them, watching them and teaching them social media and clean eating.
Joyce Byers: Stocked up on some frozen foods and froze casseroles, making calls with her PTA voice, Facetiming the kids and grandkids, Will’s husband (of Latin extraction) sends a bunch of Vicks to her (as with the rest).
Will Byers: Facetiming family, set up D&D on Zoom, his husband keeps him fed and sanitized and in stock with Vicks, keeping indoors as he is sure he is at risk, sanitized self and moved in to keep an eye on Hop and Joyce.
Jonathan Byers: Taking photos, Facetiming, getting exercise to keep ready for battle, improving on home surgical skills, doing some homeschooling with his and Nancy’s kids and even virtual for the Partys’ kids, sanitizing everything, livestreaming tributes to fallen musicians even Kenny Rogers for Bob Newby.
Nancy Wheeler: Cleaning, exercising to keep ready for battle, stockpiling on her weapons, writing blog pieces and active on social media, homeschooling, Facetiming, sends reminders in text and social media and on the phone to tell Karen to sit down at home, checks in on Barb’s parents.
Mike Wheeler: Using limited cooking skills for Eleven’s energy, taking cooking tutorials, often uses Eleven’s physical help with strenuous stuff, tells kids to lay off of “Mommy’s Eggos” and promises he will cook them some homemade ones (albeit burnt),  Facetiming, Karen can hear him screaming to sit down at home from 20 miles.
Karen Wheeler: Cleaning house, doing YouTube livestream exercise classes and at home beauty and cooking tutorials, Facetiming, is frustrated as all her kids tell her to stay her ass at home and her daughter in law is using her psychic powers to keep an eye on her.
Holly Wheeler: Lives away from home, tells her parents to sit their asses down (Ted is redundant), Facetimes siblings, keeps up to date with all information and news coming out, sanitizes everything, even delivery and pickup, re-watches all her childhood favorites, makes Nancy and Mike tell her what was going on when she was a kid.
Ted Wheeler: Sits his ass down without being told, doesn’t worry about food as Karen and the kids handle it, misses the grandkids’ presence but relieved he doesn’t have to endure collective eye-rolling from them and their parents and Karen, doesn’t think Trump is doing much wrong on purpose but doesn’t know what to think, uncomfortable with Samuel Jackson saying “Sit Your Ass At Home” as language....
Dustin Henderson: D&D livestreaming, frustrated he can’t go out but keeping an eye on his mom and needed her help and Suzie’s help with their kid before her spring break as he wanted “to party” in Miami. Falls for fake news sometimes which Suzie corrects, Suzie texts him “thanks” for the camping trailer he bought impulsively 6 years ago as she camps there after her shifts at the hospital and she made contact with her estranged parents again and glad to see they loved him and Claudia.
Claudia Henderson: At home with her son and daughter in law and two grandchildren, she goes on social media to remind people that Hillary warned them about Trump being an incompetent for a crisis, was a Warren supporter and mourning her out of the race, keeps in touch with young feminists over social media and goes on Tumblr on the regular.
Lucas Sinclair: Has hoarded New Coke when it came out again and other sodas and snacks for family movie nights, learning social media from the kids, argues and makes love to Max, uses his spying skills to keep an eye out for violations, tells parents where they can watch livestreams of church services, made the mistake of dropping in on Dustin’s house with Dustin armed with Lysol.
Erica Sinclair: Stocked up on candies and ice cream long before this, orders in food or pick up, devised creative weapons, grades her students’ with a flourish, Facetimes Lucas and Max and their kids, home schools economics to the Party’s kids, childfree and loving it, reminds her parents it’s not a good time to even be having kids, gets anxious about the state of capitalism and all the “eat the rich” memes and Parasite and The Hunt really got to her. Has opinions on My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and is a authority on the franchise.
Mr. and Ms. Sinclair: Staying home, their kids really get on them about going out, in their day one obeyed their parents and respected them by not objecting to them or letting them do things but now their kids and grandkids are telling them to stay home for their own good, Mr. Sinclair has learned livestreaming and zoom from his grandkids two years ago and set up VA meetings on zoom while Ms. Sinclair has been introduced to channels like The Take, For Harriet, and even set up her own accounts on Tumblr and Pinterest. Also makes “dates” with Mr. Sinclair to take virtual trips.
Murray Bauman: Elderly but has been sanitizing things and even created his own hazmat suit, looks with pride on his 30 year stock of toilet paper, has lots of vodka.
Dr. Sam Owens (if still alive): Keeping everyone up to date with information from his colleagues before he retired, letting them know that the President was aware of the news but ignored it, tells Hop and Joyce that he also has some mentees aware of the Hawkins Conspiracy and can be addressed if things go wrong.
Robin Buckley: Watches movies on Amazon Prime, Netflix, MUBI, Hulu and streams tv series. Active Tumblr and argues on Facebook. Doing zoom lectures for her students, “lunches” with Erica between their classes, gets high with Steve over Facebook Live, does virtual meetings of local LGBTQIA groups, flowers to Barb’s grave for her parents (she told them about a relationship she and Barb had in the past and was welcomed warmly).
Steve Harrington: Home a lot, exercises, has been clean eating for years and keeps up a high protein diet, organic gardening, checks on the Party, sanitizes constantly, does YouTube tutorials for hair and exercise, active on Twitter and Instagram where he is in constant contact with a long distance (for now) partner.
Keith (ew): Still wiping his nose on his sleeve, people give him dirty looks more, eating junk, and not exercising. Still hoping Nancy will hit him up.
Mr. and Mrs. Holland: Staying home, Nancy checks in on them also their relatives, delivery sent to their home, they still miss Barb and wish she was there, they stay in contact with Robin who orders flowers for Barb’s grave.
Max Mayfield: Practices her skateboarding and gets her and Lucas’s kids to , film her for tutorials, argues with Lucas and then they make pre-menopausal love, frustrated at her white roots showing in her hair.
Susan Hargrove: Has thankfully divorced from Neil a long time ago, is ecstatic (but guilty) when she hears he died from the virus with his last words being “it’s all a hoax”, Facetimes Max and Lucas and their kids and stays at home making dinner for one (even if she gets distracted and it burns) and taking virtual tours of countries Neil disliked in peace.
Kali Prasad: Uses psychic powers to ward off anyone who encroaches on her space and is not practicing social distancing, if she does go out at all (aside from exercising).
Samantha Stone: Does YouTube vids about 1980s music history and alternative culture to young people, supports Bernie Sanders for President, and donates $100 a month to The Take on Patreon.
My Jurassic Park/ Jurassic World Top Ten List of  Prehistoric Creatures
s
Tumblr media
So as some of you may know that I am a crazy Jurassic Park fan. I love the movies and I love the books. I thought it would be a pretty cool idea to post what my favorite dinosaurs are. I have a lot of favorite Dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park fandom but what are they? Let us dive into it. So get ready we are taking a short tour through the wilds of Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna for these favorites. Buckle up the the Jeep Wrangler is moving. These are not my photos but are stock and belong to their rightful owners. Spoilers ahead so watch out! If you have not seen the film turn back now you have been warned.
Number 10: The Stegosaurus
Tumblr media
To begin my list of my favorite Jurassic Park/ Jurassic World Dinosaurs is this beast which was showcased in the search for Sarah scene in The Lost World: Jurassic Park. This is on my list for it was the first time we saw a plant eater attack a human in the series on screen. This attack was provoked by Sarah Harding as she was photographing the baby Stego in the nest. Her camera goes wonky and scares the baby and it alerts the family. Two big ones come from out of nowhere and start to attack Sarah by trying to swipe her with their large Thagomizers. She is almost killed but the massive tail spikes miss and she is left to live for another day. This was always one of the favorite parts for me in the Lost World for it was the first and only time we see a plant eater attack a human in the original trilogy. You don’t really see any other animal that is a vegetarian try to attack anyone. So this one kind of stands out there as one of the more interesting attacks in the Jurassic Park franchise movie wise. It is also one of the best designed and one of the coolest opening dinosaurs in the franchise. Lets let the heard move on and got down the road shall we.
Number 9:  Ptranodon
Tumblr media
The Ptranodon is one of the most under used Dinosaurs in the movies until you get to the third and fourth Jurassic movie. However in the first book there is a giant bird cage scene that we eventually got to see in the Jurassic Park /// film. This is a favorite of mine. The bird cage scene is one of the best scenes in the third JP film which many of us think was pretty clunky in some parts. I think it was much better than Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom in some aspects. This scene was one of those redeeming qualities in my opinion. In the book Alan Grant, Tim and Lex enter the bird cage and get attacked. In the film it is Alan, Eric, Mr. Kirby, Amanda Kirby, and Billy who wind up getting attacked. It is a terrifying sight but the design of these are pretty cool and just the sheer terror of this scene gives me chills. The photo of this is part of that scene where Billy is being swept down stream and this guy looks at the survivors like “your next!” this part always sends shivers up my spine for some reason. It is just one of those scary moments that shouldn’t really be that scary. I did like them in the Jurassic World scene but their design is not as good as these guys. So I am adding this one as a JP Win instead of a Jurassic World win because even though I liked that movie these looked the most real in my book. This is a much darker and more intense scene for me than the birds escaping the bird cage in Jurassic World. You may have another opinion but this is mine right here. Lets move on.
Number 8: Procompsagnathus AKA Compys!
Tumblr media
 These little buggers spell trouble! They are one of the scariest little terrors on Isla Sorna. Introduced to the franchise in the Jurassic Park Novel by Michael Crichton. These guys were set up to be used for waist management. These are the first to escape to the main land and attack a few people including a little girl playing on the beach of Costa Rica. That scene was first seen in The Lost World: Jurassic Park but it was in the opening of the Jurassic Park Novel. These guys will jump on you and not let go. Deter Stark learned this the hard way. After getting lost to pee in the woods he falls down a hill after getting turned around after one pops up and scares him. He is soon swarmed not once but twice and getting torn up. They bite him from all angles and dig into his flesh with their claws. Hammond in the novel was given the same treatment. After falling down a hill after grousing about the failure of the park and hiring all the wrong people and thinking about firing all the original park operatives and wanting to make a new park he falls down and hill and meets a similar demise. These guys are one of my favorites because at first they look kind of cute like a few other Jurassic Park dinos. They look like they mean you no harm but if you tick them off then that is when they get you. karma on Jurassic Park does work. You can’t be stupid in Jurassic Park and if you are a smart-alek or just a plain jerk then best beware Karma on Jurassic Park comes in many forms and in some cases it comes in shades of green.
Number 7: Blue
Tumblr media
  I am a sucker for Raptors and Blue is only my third favorite in the series. Her relationship with Owen is something that was never explored in any concept in the original films or the first two novels. This is a very interesting concept and makes for an interesting story. Some people maybe against what they are doing in the new films but I kind of like the new ones for they broaden the horizon of the story of Isla Nublar’s animals. Blue is a cool Velociraptor and almost has a human like quality of emotions. She trusts Owen and no one else. She is pretty cool and when it comes to defending Owen and his crew. She is one cut above the rest and not just a blood thirsty monster like the other raptors of Isla Nubar and Isla Sorna. She is alright in my book but kind of falls short. I have nothing against her if that is what you are saying she is smart and one heck of a clever girl in the long run.
Number 6; The Indominous Rex
Tumblr media
Okay so now we are in hybrid territory and this guy is the only Hybrid that I really thought was interesting. The Indoraptor was kind of a retread in my book. It was just the Indominous in a different wrapper. This original Hybrid is the one that I really thought was pretty cool. It just comes to show how unhinged animals built in a lab can be. This sucker was completely hostile and would kill anything for fun. It was kind of sad that she really had no clue what to do she was just trying to survive and learn where she belonged in the food chain. She was quite the fighter and was a brutal monster. Her abilities reminded me of a few of the concepts from the original Michael Crichton novel. The Velociraptor that Ellie Sattler finds that could change color and the Carnotaurs that could blend to their surroundings could be the big inspiration pieces to creating this guy. That is just my theory anyway. I am a huge fan of the books so when ever I talk about a dinosaur I always try to mention the novel’s connection with said animal and why it may be like that. I am not one to criticize a Jurassic Park film for all of the parts to the novels are there on screen throughout all of the movies just told a little differently and this monster is just one of those things that I found very neat.
Number 5: Stiggy
Tumblr media
Used for a more comical effort this guy was actually pretty cool. He was one of my favorite dinosaurs from the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom film. This guy caused chaos and confusion in the very little screen time film. Again with a vegetarian that attacks people. This attack was not really intentional just more accidental in my book. This guy just runs amok and throws chairs and people every which way just for the heck of it. To be very honest this film was very wild with some of the comical stuff like the Indoraptor smiling just before ripping off Ken Wheatly’s arm and then killing him. This one I would count as comedic but it is more Jurassic Park style I guess. This one was a fun one though and has really grown in popularity in the fandom. I have to admit he has a certain personality to him. He comes off kind of cute and a little clumsy at times. ]
Number 4: The Brachiosaurus
Tumblr media
Going back to the original movie and the very sad part of the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom which included this animal is the Brach from 1993. This guy is the one intro Dinosaur that has really stuck with me and like most of us gave us the best exposure to what we were baring witness too during the first Jurassic Park movie. This is almost as Iconic as Rexy herself. This guy is number four for it had to be on the list somewhere. You just can’t forget the one dinosaur that all gave us the big reactions given by Alan Grant, Ian Malcolm, Ellie Sattler, and Donald Gennaro. It gave us and reaction of our own that this movie was going to rock. This one has always stuck with me and when it died in Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom after director J.A. Bayona said it was this one a little part of me just died inside. It was very sad even though it was not a real creature it was still a big part of the Jurassic Park series but as they say some eras must come to and end and the Jurassic Park era is no more. Welcome to Jurassic World I guess. As sad as it makes me to say that some legends still live on like Rexy from Jurassic Park (1993). So some things just don’t die to easy. Rexy is the most resilient of any of the dinosaurs.
Number 3: Rexy (Tyrannosaurus Rex)
Tumblr media
Speaking of her majesty! I give you the Queen of the Jurassic Park/ Jurassic World Saga. She has always had a pretty lasting impression on all of us as fans of the Jurassic franchise. This female Rex has stood the test of time in her world gaining a lot of battle wounds over the time of five films soon to be six in 2021 with Jurassic World 3. I have to say she is only third on my list for she maybe iconic but sometimes even the poster children can’t win them all. Still she is pretty high on the list. I love the book and movie versions of this particular dinosaur. In the novel there is a second Rex which is younger than she and is a little more clumsy with a puppies gate. She on the other hand is tough and the young rex knew to stay away from her. In the movie who could forget the “Main Road” scene that first introduced us to her. In the book she is actually seen the first time they arrive to the T-rex Paddock as she eats the goat. The main road is almost the same with a character running out of a car after peeing their pants and totally freaking out with a few differences. Rexy has saved the hides of many a Jurassic Park visitor but I don’t think it was totally on purpose. She is one that always is always going to get the big reaction and I have been very sad that she has kind of been over shadowed by Blue in the recent films and has only been used in only a handful of scenes in the newer chapters of the franchise. Still she outdoes blue anytime. Sorry but she was here first my friends.
Number 2: The Tiger Striped Velociraptors and the Original Raptors of Jurassic Park and The Lost world: Jurassic Park.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I count these as one for they are all in the same category. Both of these Raptor clans gave us some of the biggest jump scares in the first two movies. I was not a very huge fan of the ones with the quill in Jurassic Park ///. The original raptors showed us what real terror was like. In the original novels they are just as terrifying and will stop at nothing to rip you to bits. In some cases that is exactly what they are good at. They are almost like the Compy packs but much bigger with bigger teeth and bigger claws. You have to be super smart to out think and fox these guys. The Tigers are my favorite for we see just how their social orders go in just that small scene where they are at the gas station near the worker complex where Nick Van Owen was trying to get a chopper called to pick up the remaining survivors. All the raptors are the top predators of the Jurassic Park series. They have a complex social structure and are hard to bring down. They never give up and they seem to always be on the hunt. They are one of my top favorites for they are just that Clever Girls. I bet you are wondering what is my first over all favorite??? It is not the raptors and not Rexy. Lets take a look at number one.
Number 1: Dilophosaurus AKA Spitter
Tumblr media
This is my favorite dinosaur in the whole Jurassic Park series. I am very upset that this one has only been featured as an actual dinosaur in the first one. It has been eluded to in the last couple of films but that is not good enough. I want to see this one again. This guy is one of my favorites for its very personality. It is kind of cute one minute but then once angered it turns into a frilled nightmare lizard that shoots blinding poison at its target. This one is one of those scenes that give us that “Holy... Did you see that?!” Impression. The difference in this scene from the movie and the book is that in the book Nedry dies outside the Jeep in the movie its pretty much blocked out in the Jeep. The book gets really descriptive which sends shivers down my spine every time I read that. Still my all time favorite dinosaurs for its really interesting surprise attack mode. It is certainly a beautiful but deadly edition to Jurassic Park.
There you have it my top ten Jurassic Park dinosaurs. Of course I do have a few honorable mentions such as the Mosasaur, Carnotaur, and of course the Certasaur that we only got a few seconds of which I think was a complete let down for that creature and I am not the only one who thinks that. Now I have a mission for you; tell me what your favorite JP dinosaurs are and why. Thank you very much I think we survived another travel through Jurassic Park. Until then I am Zachary AKA Galactic_Bug_Man and I will see you on the trail.
The Hunts pt. 1
Amelia cursed lightly under her breath. Yet again they all overslept, being the third time that week, and it was only Wednesday.
“Owen, get up. I know Betty is up with the kids and the baby is still sleeping for once.”
“Shit. It’s Leo’s sixth birthday. We promised him chocolate chip pancakes.”
Amelia rolled over to her other side to peek at the youngest Hunt sleeping soundly in her bassinet.
They swore they were done having kids once they had their fourth. Betty and Leo came first, then Jonah a week after Leo turned three, and Piper 14 months after that. Owen’s vasectomy was scheduled for a Tuesday and they had conceived kid number 5 the day before his procedure. 9 months later on the Halloween day, Hannah was born.
Now Hannah was three months old and Amelia was epically failing at returning back to work in a professional manner. They were late the first two days and now they had a day off for their eldest son’s birthday in which they let him stay home from school to celebrate together.
“Since she’s still asleep, I’m going to start on the batter. She’s going to want to nurse when she wakes up so I need to hurry.”
In the time it took Amelia to go to the bathroom, wash her hands, and brush her teeth, Hannah was already awake and hunger crying.
“Sorry babe. I already changed her diaper but she’s hungry. I’m not much help when it comes to that.”
“Men and their worthless nipples. Okay, go start on the pancakes and I’ll get comfy on the couch while this chunky baby eats.”
By the time they got through breakfast and gave Leo his gifts, a new bike, hiking boots, and Jurassic World legos, it was nap time for the two little girls. Betty told everyone goodbye so she could get back to campus for her afternoon and evening classes. Amelia always got a bit sappy when Betty would go back to her college. She was so proud of Betty but also missed her tremendously.
“Okay birthday boy, what do you want to do with Daddy? I’m already going to be here with the little kids since you wanted alone time with Dad.”
“Um. It’s snowy out but maybe we can hike that trail by my school and get a hot chocolate after?”
Amelia smiled at Leo then at her husband who was watching their conversation.
“I don’t know Daddy. What do you think? A hike and hot chocolate with our big boy?”
Owen winked at Leo and smiled back at them.
“I think we can manage that. Come on buddy, let’s get our stuff together.”
He was quickly stopped by 3 year old Jonah who clung to Owen’s leg.
“Daddy, I can go with you?”
Owen knelt down to be on Jonah’s level.
“Not today Jo. Your birthday is in 7 days and I’d love to do something special with you then.”
“Please Dada?”
Amelia decided to finally chime in.
“Hey Jonah, you’re gonna stay here with me. We can watch a movie while Piper and Hannah nap. You can pick.”
“Even Toy Story?”
“Sure! I would love to watch that for the hundredth time this month.”
.
Just as Jonah had fallen asleep with his head on his mother’s lap, her phone started to ring. Owen’s name and picture popped up on her screen.
“Hey baby. How was your hike?”
“Yeah about that... Leo and I went to Grey-Sloan...”
“You’re hesitating. I hear the hesitation in your voice.”
Amelia’s heart was pounding in her chest and she heard him sigh deeply.
“Leo slipped by the frozen pond. Some rocks on the bank broke his fall. He may or may not have a broken arm.”
“May or may not? What the hell! Owen!”
“I know. He just got done with X-rays and ortho is going to come in and cast it.”
“Why weren’t you holding his hand?! Owen, dammit! It’s his birthday.”
“He went down first. I know it’s his birthday, Amelia, and I feel bad.”
“You should! Happy birthday Leo, here is a broken arm!”
“Okay, that’s enough. I’ll talk to you when we get home. We still have Tylenol, right?”
“Yes Owen. Is he okay? Is he crying?”
“He cries when it first happened. He knows what happened and understands he needs a cast. He’s gonna be fine. Kids break bones. He’s not the first and won’t be the last.”
Amelia’s bottom lip started to quiver with anger.
“You’re lucky the babies are sleeping. Hurry home with my son.”
