Things I screamed about in ATSV (spoilers)

-Got to rewatch the film so I’m just going to add the colours changing to warmer tones when Gwen hugs her father. Not even ten minutes in and I was already crying.

-Realised that we missed the Gwen-Vulture fight BUT got to see Jessica Drew enter the scene like a bad ass in her bad ass bike and hearing the audience collectively say ‘me too’ when Gwen asked if Jessica could adopt her. 

-Screaming OSCAR ISAAC when Miguel spoke

-Lyla. Just Lyla.

- ‘Do you say anything other than no?’ ‘No-YES!’ more of miguel and jessica pls

-The Spot’s introduction. I didn’t see any promotional stuff, teasers or even trailers before watching this film so I had no idea who or what the The Spot was which was great because he really went from villain of the week to villain of the movie. And they clearly had a great time choreographing the fight scenes with him

-Miles’ heating up the beef patty while the spot and the convenience store man argue

-Miles patting the spot’s with a ‘good cow’ text

-Gwen and Miles both having to deepen their voices to avoid being recognised by their respective cop dads

-Miles saying that he can get two cakes when the counsellor says you can’t have your cake and eat it too and then bringing two cakes for his father’s party and neither of them saying what he wanted to convey. 

-Rio and Jeff scolding an annoyed miles but instantly smiling when a relative hugs them what an universal experience 

-Gwen teasing Miles for drawing her in his notebook almost obsessively but also breaking the biggest rule to spend time with him knowing the consequences. 

-As they went to talk, my friend leaned over and said ‘yeah I bet they will talk’ and when they only talked he groaned very loudly at which point I had to remind him Miles was only 15 

-Watching Jeff talk to Spiderman about his son not knowing his son is spiderman

-The DJ increasing the volume when Miles’ parents started scolding him in the middle of the party (the real mvp of the movie actually) 

-JK Simmons cameo that no one seems to be talking about??? Embarrassingly enough I had to literally scream into my friend’s ear for most of the people to realise it was indeed JK Simmons

-Just the entire Mumbattan scene. It was so exciting to see my city be represented like that, still a bit cliched in my opinion but not like Slumdog so obviously they have updated their views. Everything from the traffic gag to Pav’s rant about chai tea had the theatre howling. Also the detail of the thought boxes (?) and sounds being written in Hindi 

-Screaming DANIEL KALUUYA

-My friend and I are huge fans of the UK punk scene (her for the ideologies and myself for the music and fashion) so Hobie was a dream come true. He was already super cool with his guitar and mohawk costume but when he revealed his face it was just so amazing

-Gayatri is every indian’s dream girl with her modern shirt-flannel and jeans combo mixed with bangles and piercings I really wish we get to see more of her in the next movie. Anyway there was a lot of wolf-whistling and hooting for her and Pav

-Also Pavitr literally means pure I don’t know if they did that on purpose or not but I love it

-His pet name being Pav cured my soul

-’This is the most emotional I have seen him’ and Captain Singh has no emotions at all

-I want to see how they came up with so many spider designs because each was so unique and immediately endearing. My friend who is also a big dinosaur fan screamed DINOSAUR 

-Kind of obsessed with how detailed Ben Reilly’s arms are they did not need to go that hard with it

-Tom Holland’s Spider-Man being referred to as ‘the little nerd’ by Miguel

-When everyone was making puns about the Spot my friend leaned over and said ‘i wonder which hole the spot prefers’ it is a miracle we are still friends actually

-The Donald Grover cameo!!!

-Peter B Parker having a cute little baby with the love of his life is what he deserves

-Miguel O Hara is one step away from becoming a Batman-Spiderman 

-Hobie’s admiration for Mayday being the avatar of chaos Spider-baby

-Screaming ANDY SAMBERG

-I think they saw the appreciation for the art style in the previous film and then trebled it for this film and I cannot thank them enough for it

-Peter complaining about how Miguel breaks the Spiderman tradition of being funny and witty and Miguel being the first anomaly 

-Every scene with the Spot is very unnerving because as I said, you watch him transform from this joker to a literal void of vengeance and it is every bit of terrifying

-Miguel is a man suffering from the destruction of an entire universe because of his selfish actions and forcing that anomaly narrative on a fifteen year old boy who became a spiderman on accident and doesn’t want his father to die because of that. Unlike the Spot, who isn’t even human anymore, Miguel is drowning in grief and guilt and trying to ignore it by holding the weight of the spider-verse on his shoulder. I hated him so much for making a boy go through that but then I just couldn’t in the end. 

-Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire cameo!!! Hopefully we’ll get a fun Tom Holland one too in the next movie.

-’Let me guess, he died?’ being a therapist for Spider Men must be a fairly boring job after a few patients.

-I just loved the absolute of wrongness of the scene where Miles returns ‘home’. The rain and darkness. I didn’t really think about Rio asking Miles what happened to his hair because I thought she was referring to the rain (although of course she wouldn’t ask him why his hair was wet when it was obviously raining outside) but realised something was wrong when he didn’t know about comic con but she did because in the first film there’s a joke about Peter B Parker explaining the concept to Miles. 

- This movie is not good for my father related issues

-The glaring neon welcome sign when the gang end up in Earth 42

-How did Uncle Aaron get even scarier? 

-Miles being the Prowler is honestly a great twist I saw it coming but still felt the shock of the reveal

-Prowler Miles having an accented voice meaning his father probably died when he was young and he only had his mom growing up

-Can’t wait for the original spider team to return for the third film seeing as they brought back Spider-Man Noir and Spider Ham and Peni Parker

-Screaming WHAT when the ‘to be continued’ appeared because that cliffhanger is absolutely destructive. All that adrenaline and excitement just popped. I’m still oscillating between being impressed and being disappointed. 

I probably skipped over a lot of other scenes because these were the most memorable and I only watched the film once (unfortunate) but I can’t wait for the movie to hit streaming services and watch it again and again for all the other details I missed. Ill probably keep adding things as I remember

Hi! Thank you! These are Indian meal moths, Plodia interpunctella, which are common pests in dry/stored plant-based foods like grains, nuts, and cereals. They especially love things like birdseed or other plant-based dry pet food, so it makes sense they'd show up in a shelter.

They're not outright dangerous to animals and don't transmit disease but if there's a large infestation they can spoil the dry food stores if they introduce moisture and bacteria. But if you open a bag of birdseed or whatever and there are a few larvae but the seed still looks dry and mostly whole and isn't a writhing mess of larvae, it's still fine. They can chew through cardboard and soft plastic so the only safe storage containers would be thick plastic, metal, or glass.

What's your thoughts on American Indian dogs? (This is a picture of 2 of them that came into the pet supply store I used to work at).

im gonna be honest, i know they exist but not much beyond that - they're not a breed i find particularly interesting, so i haven't looked into them. are these the same things as native american indian dogs, or are those different? there's sooo many of these generic-husky-shepherdy-wolfy projects that i can never remember what is what. but at least with NAIDs i'm pretty sure i remember some bullshit going around recently with a breeder(s?) claiming their dogs had no wolf content when they actually had a significant amount, which is, uh, wildly unethical.

i'm also innately distrustful of any sort of 'historic breed recreation' like this because they tend to be a very... almost fetishistic sort of project. especially considering this is supposed to be a recreation of the dogs that lived with native americans and first nations. are native people actually involved in this project and helping with guidance and direction? or is this just yet another case of Dog People deciding that a historic, landrace breed should Actually Look Like This and ignoring their place of origin? are we actually studying the historic dogs and using the modern american village dogs and rez dogs that still exist today as our founders? or are we just mashing wolfy-looking breeds together because wolves = majestic = totally native american?

idk man i'd love to be proven wrong here, so if someone can refute this and show me that this is a project sanctioned by actual native peoples and with a concise goal in mind, cool. but my surface impression has been more or less that it's Dog People playing dress-up with wolfy-looking dogs under the guise of claiming it's a breed recreation.

my grandparents are authentic Indians living in the state of Tamilnadu in the south of India. So my native language is actually Tamil even tho I don't speak it much. So basically I'm Singaporean but my ethnicity is Indian!

just to clear some things up, India is a country with many religions and stuff so to ppl assuming India's only religion is "Hindu" please don't! I've been asked this question many times as well and to make things clearer, I'm Christian! (Although idk if Jesus is willing to accept me after the sins I've committed hehe)

I've also lived in Perth, Australia for 5 years! (it was due to my father's work) so basically I have many places I can call home haha. My current dream destination is South Korea or Paris! hope I make it there one day~

i just got back from watching the eclipse at my school! I didnt get any pictures but it was a huge gathering with food and music and stuff it was very nice. Kids and dogs running around too very cute. Afterwards my sisters friend who knows practically everyone in the entire world introduced us to two brony girls (pegasisters..LMFAOOO) and got their insta and talked for a while. So im very happy with that cause they’re really nice. And even if its just for today im so glad i got to talk to a bunch of people ��� then a bunch of us went to get smoothies..! Today is making me feel like a real person again i wont lie. LMFAOOO <3

Not too many big things going on.. Lately my life has been pretty boring i wont lie im just very exhausted a lot of the time. Now that its a little warmer and sunny these days though im more motivated to go outside to my usual spots and engage in my outside hobbies. HEY I have a hermit crab (he's like 6-7 at this point so not a recent acquisition) and I'm always trying to think of things for him to do or play with because he’s awesome and I love him. Any ideas?

ANON THATS SO COOL! hermit crabs are awesome, and huge props to you keeping your little guy’s enrichment in mind!!! i have seen some people put larger hermits or other crabs (like fiddlers) in hamster balls for short periods of time in order to let them explore in relative safety…. i would go for one of the larger ones and keep a close eye on him but that could be fun!!

variety in diet is also a big thing people will do for their hermits. when i worked at a pet store, i used to love giving ours fresh chopped veggies fruit and nuts — but they can eat all sorts of additional things too! food items that won’t spoil right away (like dried fish or dried fruit) can be sprinkled around the enclosure or ‘hidden’ to give him a chance to put those foraging skills to good use. stuff like sterilized dry leaf litter (catappa/indian almond leaves are usually sold for fish or reptile setups, but they work good for these guys too! i’d just make sure to go for stuff intended for pets) or even live plants can make for good edible enrichment too! (i’d be very careful to make sure everything you use is safe for him to eat - i’ve seen people grow wheatgrass or other ‘cat grasses’ for anything from hamsters to birds to crabs so that might be a decent option. you could also look into what sort of leafy greens people find their hermits tend to like, and consider growing some sprouts for him!!)

they’re also avid climbers, so something like pieces of sturdy driftwood or cholla wood or even one of those rope climbing nets people will use for lizards could be fun — if it’s the latter, i’d just make sure it’s very tightly secured and that the substrate is thick + soft enough that if he does fall, he won’t hurt himself too much. don’t want any shell damage.

one thing i always love to do for enrichment with the various inverts i’ve kept over the years is actually one of the easiest things to do — just rearrange their tank every so often! turn around or flip over bits of rock or wood, switch out fake plants for some new ones, change the location of the food or water dishes, all kinds of stuff like that to keep their brain moving and keep them exploring!! it’s something we do for animals at work too, it’s a great way to provide novel stimuli without having to go too crazy.

i’ve honestly never had a hermit crab myself (i love em to death, but they usually like to have as much space as possible and i’m heavily limited for space rn. that and i’m hardly ever home lmao) so i’m just pulling from my general invert/aquatic crustacean knowledge, so take that with a few grains of salt. best of luck in your crabby enrichment endeavors though!!

Are there rattlesnakes in Florida Reptile store?

Snakes are the most abundant species among all Florida reptiles. There are around thirty (30) snakes in Florida , out of which only three (03) are threats to human life. All three of these are rattlesnakes, and they come from the Viperidae family. 

Their common names are Prairie Rattlesnake, Midget Faded Rattlesnake, and Massasauga. All three rattlesnakes are different in physical appearance and various characteristics; however, they possess a few mutual characteristics that help identify them. As the name suggests, the end of the tails look rattle-like, and they have triangle-shaped heads. The eyes are vertical in shape, and all have thick bodies.

Weirdo Wednesday

Welcome back! On this week’s Weirdo Wednesday let me introduce...

The Blue Glaucus: Glaucus Atlanticus

The blue dragon, the sea swallow, the blue angel, all better names in my opinion but I’m not here to judge the names of marine organisms. The blue glaucus is a 3cm long nudibranch found in the warm tropical areas of the Pacific, Atlantic, and the Indian Oceans. Its dazzling colors are an example of countershading, a form of camouflage that works with the sun’s rays. That coupled with its small size makes this weirdo near impossible to see in the water. It looks more like a Pokemon than a slug with its 6 limbs, flattened body, and long fingers, which are called cerata. AND its more often found floating near the surface, soaring over the ocean below it like a blue dragon, because of air bubbles in its stomach!

Where do I even begin with this weirdo. First of all, a group of them is called a blue fleet! The blue glaucus only lives for a year, but they’re here for a good time, not a long time. They are venomous, but they don’t produce the venom themselves. How to they acquire it? From their prey. These tiny weirdos go after the Portuguese man o’ war; a large, surface dwelling relative of the jellies! The blue glaucus feeds on their prey and saves their nematocysts, or their stinging cells, for later use. The venom concentrates in their ceratae, making them more venomous than their prey by a long shot, and the venom stays even after they die. Feeding on the man o’ war is also where the blue glaucus get’s its lovely colors from, a trait they share with other nudibranchs. 

But wait there’s more

This is a time to talk about their mating habits, because if you think this small slug can’t possibly eat a whole jelly, then you’d be sometimes right. They recycle the leftovers by using it to store their fertilized eggs so that they can float to a new habitat. The blue glaucus is hermaphroditic, meaning it can be both male and female (has eggs and sperm), but it still needs a mate for reproduction. Mating takes some time as they must be careful not to sting each other. We’re still learning about how they mate, but because both are male and female, there is evidence to suggest that both glaususes are giving sperm and leave with fertilized eggs! Despite this efficient mating style, the blue glaucus is endangered mostly due to people thinking they would make good pets. While I still have your attention, I ask you to look at what this weirdo eats, and where it lives, and how much venom it contains, and really think about whether or not this is a good aquarium fish, or it if should just continue to dazzle the sea.

i just signed a LEASE!!!!! for a townhouse that has TWO WHOLE STORIES!!!!! i am gonna have STAIRS inside my HOME!!!!!! i just revisited my list of Most Important Criteria and i got all of these things:

proximity to parks, good neighborhood walks, natural beauty!!

within 20 min of my siblings (i had to compromise a bit on this one: 10-15 min to my brother, 20-25 min to my sister)

apartment in nice condition (clean, quiet, nice layout - it’s not super updated but well taken care of and has updated bathrooms)

lots of natural light (large east AND west facing windows PLUS SKYLIGHTS!!!!! i did not get the Wall of Windows of my dreams but it’s pretty close to that)

within my price range (it was $200 cheaper than my upper limit and he’s not charging ANY PET RENT what the hell i feel like i’m getting away with something)

free reserved parking + lots of street parking

plus dishwasher, IN-UNIT LAUNDRY, hardwood floors downstairs, an oversized deck, a grocery store 2 min away, indian AND thai restaurants right down the street, overhead lights, giant bedrooms)

HUGE VICTORY!!!!!!

bestieeee im the ‘is it a date or not’ anon LOL i have few updates and it’s a ride!! and its gonna be very looong

1. it was a date!! and it went sooo well. we kissed (im easy, i know im a hoebag), but before he kissed me he brushed his teeth bcs he didn’t want me to taste the onion bcs we ate in indian food 😭 but he didn’t mind it from me.

2. our second date was last weekend. netflix and chill. at his apartment bcs my tv was still in the cardboard box.

3. his apartment is really nice, has a lot of books (sadly no fiction, just some engineering books and self help types). has a lot of stuff but very tidy. and ps 5 games. no pets.

4. i got my period while we were watching 😭😭😭😭😭 and i stained his sofa with my menstrual blood. i didn’t notice it bcs ive always been irregular. of course i didn’t bring any pads. i don’t even bring clothes bcs i didn’t plan to stay. so imagine the chaos in my mind.

5. i cried. a lot because it was so embarrassing. he hug me and let me cry. after that he apologized that he didn’t have pads/tampons. i wanted to take a shower and he was ‘yeah, cmon, i’ll give you my clothes don’t worry’

6. his bathroom is really nice, clean, AND HE HAS A BIDET. idk why but i noticed his products. he used la roche posay and aesop products like??? this is the first time ive been with a guy that doesn’t use gatsby or ‘masculine’ products.

7. he has very clean and soft towel and he warmed it 😭😭

8. he bought me the correct pads😭😭😭 like he bought me the winged, large pad, and an ‘emergency panties’. his apartment complex has a convenient store at the ground level so it was quick.

9. HE CLEANED MY BLOODIED PANTS AND PANTY😭😭😭😭😭 no disgust face. nothing. he also immediately clean the sofa cover.

10. i cried after shower. because he was so kind and he didn’t appear to be disgusted or upset or mad or disappointed. he just was like him??? he was so calm and nonchalant and kind and helpful and he was very accommodating.

11. i ended up wearing his tshirt and shorts. the shorts was too big, but he has some clips so it’s not too loose. LIKE HOW DOES HE HAVE THAT!?

12. i cried again. i fucking HATE to be the stereotypical menstrual woman but fuckkkk i was so embarrassed and touched. AND HE WAS NOT MAD AT MEEEE! ik it’s the bare minimum but i was so touched.

13. he bought me chocolate 🥹 like loads.

14. i apologized to him bcs i got my period. and he was ‘you dont have to apologize!’ etc etc. i hugged him. again. he asked me to sleep his apartment bcs it was late and his car was still fixed. i said yes bcs i was also curious LOL IM SO EASY IM SORRY but we didn’t have sex. he did not even initiate.

15. i sleep in his bed. which again, very nice and clean and smells good. he sprayed lavender sleeping oil (i got at my place too) on the pillows. HE WAS THOUGHTFUL.

16. he was planning to sleep on the air mattress, but i asked him to sleep with me. i cried. we cuddled and kiss kiss. and we sleep. no sex involved.

17. he has a white noise machine 😭

18. i thanked him for being so thoughtful and considerate and generous and not condescending. i even thanked him for buying the correct pads.

19. turns out his mother and his oldest sister ARE OBGYN! even more surprising, his mother IS MY OBGYN and i just got my pap smear at her clinic 3 months ago 😭 i didn’t make the connection bcs his mother has different last name.

20. he has two older sisters, and he is the youngest and only boy. idk why but this explains a lot about his choices of hygiene products.

21. he snores, but not too loud. it was cute. i think im in love.

22. in the morning he made me toast but with chocolate sprinkles topping. i found out this is dutch breakfast. his mother is dutch. (explains why he’s 6’6 HAHA).

23. not only did he clean my bloodied pants and my shirt, he also IRONED IT.

24. he took a cab with me to my place. it was sunday.

25. he mounted my tv. and made it so tidy that no cable wire was seen. 😭 if i did it myself it’s gonna be messy. but he did it so tidy.

26. IT WAS SONFUCKING HOT like??? he was in my living room and placing tv and things like that, connected it to wifi, signing it to netflix, hbo, youtube, etc. i was just staring at him. im in love.

27. i realized during our interaction he never complained. EVER. like never. i never see him in negative emotion. he was always calm. idk if it’s a good thing or not.

28. he still texted me his lunch/meme. and he just send me pictures orange stray cats he met 😭 i wanna have cat but i cant bcs my landlord dont allow it. i especially want an orange cat😭

29. i thought he was going to ghost me. but he didn’t. he even asked me about my period pain and he offered to ask his mom/sister about it if i have any concerns. i haven’t told him that his mom is my obgyn, yet. (should i even tell him?)

30. i really want him to be husband by now.

what do you think guys? do you think this is love bombing type? but at the same time he doesn’t do romance things??? idk. but these whole thing just made me 🥹❤️🥹❤️ please please tell me if there’s any redflag i missed bcs i tend to wear rose-colored glasses. and i tend to notice little things and make myself fall in love.

also how do i make it up to him? please tell me i really don’t want him to lose interest. but tbh i feel like he he still holds the same interest as our first interaction. more even???

When your fandom makes you cringe.

I watch Miraculous Ladybug primarily to Ship Marienette and Gabriel.  I do enjoy the show overall, and god, I wish it’d been around when I was 12.

That said, I’m gonna get nit-picky here.

First, a personal preference: Even though I’ve read Marvel and DC comics for literally decades, and in them the entire world is crammed with superheroes, I like the idea of Marientte and Adrien being the only superheroes in the world, and the Miraculouses only being in Paris.  That makes them unique and special.  Having multiple superheroes in every country means superbeings aren’t any more unique than, well, gay folks.  If 10% of the population has superpowers it’s not impressive.  “Oh yeah, Ted down the block’s got superpowers.  He’s Lightning Bolt or somebody.”  “He’s Lightning Bolt?  I thought Eric was.”  “No, you’re right.  Eric’s Bolt and Aylesha on the corner is Lightning Strike, and Ted’s Super Plumber.  I dunno, I can’t keep them all straight.”

To quote The Incredibles:

But of course the MCU and DCU have made us used to superbeings as thick as Autumn leaves on the ground.  So naturally Miraculous Ladybug would follow suit.

I managed to find most of the movie, Miraculous World: United Heroez on YouTube.  You can’t find in on Region 1 DVD, and I don’t think it aired on either Nickelodeon or Disney+.

And I can see why.

This movie reinforces the old adage Write What You know.  Because the screenplay has so many problems for a diverse American audience.  It’s obviously written by someone who doesn’t understand American culture.

The special is listed in very small segments, subtitled in Hindi, on YouTube, if you want to judge for yourself.

SPOILERS AHEAD

First, this is one of the main American superheros.  Being New York, I thought he was Roachman.

And immediately we move in to Problematic Territory with this character:

I worked in an international airport in a store that sold Native American items.  I was the only staff member who wasn’t Native, but I’m brown with hip-length blue-black hair, so everyone thought I was.

One of the things I learned is Europeans fetishize American Indians, hard, while not knowing a damn thing about them.  Many of them are shocked to learn Native Americans are still around.  They think they’re all extinct.  And they don’t know that there were Indigenous people all over the North American continent.  They think they were only in the American West, all lived in teepees and hunted buffaloes. Europeans -- including people in the UK and Ireland -- only think of the stereotypes they’ve seen in old Westerns -- who were mostly played by Redfaced Whites-Italians-Latinos-and some Asians.

So it’s no surprise that Miraculous World depicts the stereotype of an American Indian as being that weird mix of Lakota-Dakota-Crow-Cree-Navajo-Hopi.  When these peoples are very different.

Add to that  . .  oh lord . . .

 . . . the main Black character is a fucking robot . . .

. . . . who, called Uncanny Valley (get it?) transforms into basically a white-colored ball-jointed doll.

And she was created by the superhero Majestia to be her daughter . .  .

 . . . . and Majestia looks like Joan Rivers . . .

. . .  . and she’s apparently a lesbian with a hard-ass partner/wife.

So we’ve got a white lesbian couple (that part’s good, brava) who “adopted” a Black girl who’s not a real girl, not an orphan, but a fucking robot.

This is every bad stereotype of White Female Liberals with Pet Negroes in a nutshell.  Then throw in the Stereotype Injun.

Next we have the two-earrings-bald-white-possibly Family superhero The Doorman . . .

. . .  who basically is The Dean from Community.

Continuing in the OH Fuck NO category, we have the French idea of a totem pole.

This is a real totem pole.

And once again, the Plains-Southwest Injun Mashup.

Her miraculous is the Power of Freedom.  Which most Native Americans would find darkly ironic.

“We had the Miraculous of Freedom and still we had Europeans committing genocide on our ass?  How the fuck did that happen??”

And of course they have the Wise Stone-Face Gruff-Voice Indian Elder as The Guardian.  Because we can’t have enough stereotypes in this movie.

Then we discover that Roachman Knightowl is really a woman, Majestia’s significant other.

Nice, but it was already done in Batman: Mask of The Phantasm.

Why did they have to hide that Knightowl was female?  Majestia’s so obviously female; her tits could knock down the Chrysler Building. WTF difference did it make?  Obviously they did it just so they could have a Big Reveal.

Supposedly the Miraculouses didn’t exist in America until 1880, which would be after the end of Slavery (1865) and the worst of Indigenous genocide (1863 “Scorched Earth” policy).  But since we’re shown that through history Native as well as Black people were both Knightowl and Sparrow, why the fuck didn’t they end racism against Natives and Blacks as well as Chinese and everyone else??

But isn’t it great that they have Native and Black heroes at all? you ask.

Nope.  Not when they perpetuate stereotypes. WTF couldn’t they have someone who was Onondaga, they’re from the New York area.

Remember, the Black girl ain’t even human.  She’s pretty much a doll.

I want to sit the screenwriters down and make them watch Reel Injun.

Pros:

Gabriel/Hawk Moth.  But then, I’d love him if he were in a toilet paper commercial.  Hawk Moth, deep voice: “Buy Cottenelle Quilted.  It’s so . . “ strokes roll of TP sensuously, “ . . .  comfy.”

Lafayette & George Washington:  I’m a huge American Independence geek, so seeing the movie use the history of Lafayette and Washington gave me happy geek shivers.

I wish they’d shown the entire Horrible Lafayette & G. Washington Sock Puppet school video instead of just teasing it.

The Gorilla’s fear of flying.  Told he’s going with Adrien to NYC:

On the plane, Relax Program: “On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your fear of flying?”

"11.”

Xavier: Renegade Angel #5: “Pet Siouxicide” | December 3, 2007 - 12:00AM | S01E05

This is a strong contender for best episode of season one. I actually remember sitting with my best friend/roommate and watching this, doing just the most MASSIVE laughs. We were probably all like “DAMN! That was a good one!”. It was 2007, We all talked like that… give me a freaking break!

In this episode, Xavier happens upon a pet shop owner who is in crisis. His shop is going under, despite his best efforts to make weird animals using genetic engineering. They all have funny, funny names, but it seems like stealing somehow to just list them here. I’ll highlight the last one: “a bag of pur”, which is just a brown lunch sack that has purring noises coming out of it. Very memorable, used the phrase on many a cat. Most of them got the reference.

This one is largely a parody of the Richard Pryor motion picture (in theaters now) The Toy, a movie that I’ve avoided because whenever I caught some on TV it always seemed, uh, a little too weird, if you know what I mean. Hey, that’s okay… coolsville, daddy-o. This episode has Xavier helping the the pet store man get out of his pet debt by offering himself as an expensive pet to a rich boy who gets everything he wants. Xavier flips the tables on him and causes him to become enlightened. The boy no longer believes that “pain is a myth invented by poor people who don’t want to work”. He now wants to “buy up all the suffering in the world and drown it like a kitten”. 

This includes a memorable presentation about Emodynamics, a concept where the amount of joy you feel will directly cause that proportionate amount of pain elsewhere. “Joy can not be created or destroyed”. Very funny, slightly gruesome visuals in this. When they cut to the “deformed” cow and it just has like corny-ass clown shit on its face, mama mia, you know I gotta love it. These guys are like, so good at the precise amount of gruesome a comedy show should be. Like, just enough to be truly potent. They are scientists as much as they are craftsmen.

Xavier is such a lively, dense show that you forget sometimes that certain bits came from certain episodes. This one is sort of like that because it moves into a new story where the rich boy wants to make his father see the error of his ways by injecting him with indian blood extracted from an ancient indian burial ground, which will cause him to identify with the plight of the noble native American (just like Tom Loughlin before him). This causes the dad to greedily open an Indian casino.

Famous commercial reference: Xavier and the rich boy’s father re-enact some of the classic “I learned it from watching you!” PSA. Please! View it if you have not!

Eventually there is a show-down between blood indians and blood cowboys (from an ancient cowboy burial ground). I don’t really feel like elaborating on this plot point, sometimes this show can really disorient you. There was a line I’m forgetting that explains the insane logic of getting to this point. The cowboys are Muslim because their blood got tainted by oil reserves beneath the burial ground. Insanely funny and dicey joke. Watch this on HBOMax before they find out about it. Extremely funny episode.

Lunch Date

I went out to eat today.

I went to the restaurant (table for one, please)

To a restaurant I'd never tried

Indian buffet never disappoints:

Naan, tandoori, butter chicken, paneer

Rich foods and deep orange curry

(Managed not to spill it on my sweater (cream colored sweater))

The restaurant was mostly empty,

Soft murmurs of conversation,

Instrumental music above

(Why do they always play western style piano solos in Indian restaurants?)

I sat and ate my food

No book, no social media,

I left my phone in my bag.

I had gone there on a whim

After visiting some pet stores just to watch the critters

(I always wonder if it bothers the employees

To have people come in and treat pet stores like a mini zoo.

I'd be buying if I had the money and my landlord allowed pets, I swear!)

I visited the pet stores because I had been in Walmart,

Getting the finishing touches for my new apartment

And remembered how some of them used to have aquariums

(Does anyone else remember that?)

So I went to watch the fish,

And the kittens and the parakeets and guinea pigs

And the one sleeping corn snake

Until I decided I was hungry.

And I sat there in the restaurant,

No company, no distractions,

And ate my meal,

And it was enough.
