So it doesn't like, bother me or anything when it happens, but I always get so curious whenever someone unfollows me on here. Like sometimes it's understandable if it's related to some kind of drama, or me just having a strong opinion on something, but other times I will just be posting as usual and notice the number went down and go "what'd I do this time"

alicent as a mother is always so intensive subject, cause where tg refuse to admit that alicent was a bad mother, tb don't give her justice in reasons why that happened (it's not general, both teams has exceptions ofc)
tg defend her saying it's not her fault, she was used, she didn't want those children, they forced her, but was it said otherwise? yes, she was bad mother because of her own trauma and assault she experienced but she was still a bad mother. having an "excuse" don't change that
and not every time that someone said she is not a good parent, they need to add why. no need for assuming that person who says it, doesn't know the reasons. they can say why alicent became bad parent or the way alicent shows bad parenting or that she is just that, bad mother, they can say all of it or just one thing. all of that coexists
before I'll start: there's most stuff from the show, but there's book spoilers, maybe that will be also show cannon in the future, I dunno, sorry for mistakes, english is not my first language
we have evidence of her being basically sold by her father, sa'd by viserys, forced to birth one child by another. she was motherless child forced to becoming a mother before she was ready. she was not a fan of her children, we see her unhappy with them, and when she speaks it's about dry facts like the labour and not her feelings. she does not care for them that way, which is fine bc she not wished for them and she's still a child herself, but that's a fact
Tumblr media
we see her later with her kids and again we cannot say she became better while becoming older. she sees them as her duty (her worst enemy), her responsibility and also (admit it or not) way to put rhaenyra down. otto said to her way before jace was born that he wants aegon on the throne, he already could be accused of treason but alicent remained silent and later she acts the same way. she puts on aegon big pressure, responsibilities and also involves him in act of treason (because again she thinks it's her duty to the realm)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
what's more she abuses him physically and mentally. we see her beating him more than once, screaming or neglacting him (all of that are forms of abuse). blames him for aemond's losing an eye while it was her responsibility to watch her kid or a servant and guards', not his (you can say also viserys', there was never a dispute if he's a good father, we know he isn't, it's about alicent only discussion then)
Tumblr media
aegon in his 20s has to ask his mother if he's being loved, how sick is that? that he drowns in need of attention? (you can say he deserves all of this but the truth is alicent - and viserys ofc - failed to raise him well and now she fails to punish him, cause he should be sent to the wall, instead she beats him and let's him be a monster to another girl, now as a "king". all not to protect him but to protect his reputation, all she does there is bc of her sense of duty)
Tumblr media
helaena hates being touched by her own mother, why wouldn't she? child bride alicent did the same to her daughter, knowing what a menace her son is. she does not understand haelena, she forces her to early marriage, childbirting, unhappy life. (and be fr, haelena might not like touching generally but 1. it's speaks even worse about alicent who touches her againts her will and married her to sexual predator, 2. she didn't mind being touched by jace who not really knowing his aunt was far more gentle)
Tumblr media
absence of daeron would say more about their relation if not for long time skips, the truth is sending away little child is a form of neglacting however we do not know if they were in touch and how often. i know it's a common practise, i am glad that baela was at least sent to her loving grandmother in her later childhood, but I still do not like the whole ward thing and i won't comment on it in daeron's case, cause we did not see it here how was it done
I will speak about aemond x alicent relation though which is by far the most interesting. he is the only one we can say that he loves his mother and cares for her which doesn't automatically means she was a good mother for him. for the dynamic he observes alicent needs protection from men around her (rightfully so) and decides to lie to the king to protect her. not only he usually lives meeting her expectations (ekhem ekhem not anymore ig) but can initiate his actions to please her even if that means he'll go against his own wishes (searching for aegon to make him a king)
the fact is he was much miserable for not having dragons AND for being bullied. yet two things we have: first alicent as queen could easily arrange aemond going to dragonstone to claim dragon or take rhaenyra's deal to have syrax's egg. second - she blames velaryon boys as if she wasn't the one who destroyed good relations between kids and as if aegon weren't bellwether for bullying actions (YES, JACE AND LUKE ARE GUILTY TOO, but we discuss here alicent dynamics with her kids, so I point her fault right now) and she raised one child to bully others, his own siblings
then we have the children's fight and aemond loses his eyes. one of the best scene when alicent attacks rhaenyra, 10/10 love everything here. that's gonna sound harsh but alicent's behaviour here screams about duty too. it shouldn't at all, her child just lost his eye, her priority should be to comfort him. instead she wants rhaenyra to take responsibility for having bastards (that's not the case), aegon for not taking care of aemond (it's her responsibility), viserys to admitting her own sacrifices weren't for nothing. she put here herself and her needs above aemond, she used his wounds to attack rhaenyra and her children (no, I do not say she didn't care aemond got hurt, don't put words in my mouth)
Tumblr media
"if the king won’t seek justice the queen will" she wants so called "justice", but stated by her only, where's justice in taking child's eye after accident? would she also break aemond nose for "justice"? if he'd killed luke or jace, would she call for killing aemond? it's not caring mother, it's the queen wanting revenge cause she doesn't like princess' privileges (and also privilege that bastards here have). she calms down when she realizes that she went too far, "neglected her duty", that's not aemond's doing (and also fcked up that her assaulted child feels that he needs to calm her down)
Tumblr media
"she was ready to die for her children" desperate actions in the worst scenarios to not matter that much with previous behaviour, especially since her children were doubting if she would do that for them in the first place (that ig you can take as opinion, but if mother abuses child for years how much does it counts if she gives up her life for this child?)
Tumblr media
regarding rhaenyra she doesn't understand a good mother patterns as well. she either doesn't care nyra will suffer or doesn't understand that mother who just gave a birth to a child, will not send it away even for a second. she doesn't care or understand mother will not allow for taking her child's eye for "duty". she doesn't understand that bastards are not any less worthy of love. her view of motherhood is sacrifising herself, not enjoying what she can
perhaps she did not know any better, her mother was a child bride (forced by old pedo otto) just like her, she did the same to helaena and unfortunately later that happened to jaehaera. she was abused in many ways but later also became an abuser. and all that because she thought life is about duty and sacrifice. she had every reason to be bad mother and she became one but that it should be seen as a fact while some of you see it as an opinion and criticism
if you read all of that - seven hells okay

Here’s Part 2 of some ideas I’m doodled for my Winx rewrite
Last post seemed to do better than I expected and I’m glad a few people enjoyed it. So here are some more things I want to work with.
Tumblr media
I like Artu and Roxy’s relationship but I would have also liked some backstory on them and more depth. Like Gantlos said “it’s just a dog”. How did Roxy get Artu? Is he adopted or bought? Is there a reason he doesn’t like anyone outside of Roxy and Klaus?
In my rewrite, yes. Abandoned as a puppy, a kid Roxy took him in after her mother left her dad unexpectedly. She basically raised Artu and he means a lot to her, but she never socialised him since she herself isn’t social with people (so while Artu may tolerate someone’s prescence he doesn’t like being touched or seen upclose). Roxy raising Artu is also why she gets pissed and earns her fairy form but doesn’t want the fairy gig since it ended up hurting her dog, because as a fairy the wizards are after her and Gantlos hurt Artu.
Speaking of Gantlos
Tumblr media
Gantlos my beloved you’re so fucking bland the only personality trait you have is having fucked up pointy hands and a cool hat <3
Ok in all honestly I like his apathy to animals and the Winx in general, but that also applies to the other wizards to some extent. At least you can say something about the other wizards; Orgon’s voice is top tier, Duman has really cool powers and design, Anagan’s banter with Flora’s entertaining. This one’s technically a headcannon I made cannon in the rewrite. I did my research btw.
Gantlos has a pretty intense fear of deers also called Elafiphobia, even asking Duman to not shapeshift into one. It’s pretty bad, seeing a deer gets him pretty close to a panic attack. I’m not going to spoil why but I’ll say it’s a consequence of the Great Fairy Hunt. In fact all the Wizards despite being the cause have been affected by the fairy hunt, either overall or because of a major event. Gantlos’ deer phobia is also why he doesn’t like/care about animals initially, I mean, why should he like them? Just cause they’re cute? Hah!
Tumblr media
Apart from Riven and Musa I hate the melodrama in season 4 it’s so shit. Since in my version Sky isn’t in the story cause king stuff, Mitzi is narratively cremated and Nabu doesn’t die, on top of planning to expand on Anagan and Flora’s relationship as rivals and Anagan “flirting” with her, it’d be weird for Helia to be like “eh”. Like even if Flora can hold her own I think he’d at least be a little concerned and annoyed at Anagan.
So yeah, Helia’s conflict is having a case of Impostor syndrome because Anagan’s a foil to him; confident, extroverted, confrontational, and actually bounces off of Flora really well. (Like, I don’t ship Anagan and Flora but the people who do I don’t blame them, it sounds more interesting) Even if Flora doesn’t reciprocate Anagan’s feelings, Helia feels inadequate and is anxious Flora will lose interest and might even break up with him since he’s the anti-social poet of the group. Timmy could even help after his confidence arc in Season 2. He’s not overprotective of Flora like wanting to fight Anagan since it kinda goes against his pacifism but the narrative doesn’t care about that as much as I do :/
Tumblr media
And lastly I think it’s be neat if we saw a more fleshed out dynamic between the Wizards, the best I can think of is when they’re protected by Syllia and Duman almost slips their plan to which Anagan says he’s being whoosy, Orgon complains about being protected by fairies while Gantlos is fine with it.
A lot of the rewrite is focused on fleshing out the wizards because I want complex villains grr, and they’re perfect for it. The Earth Fairies? They’re good but they’re dead in my rewrite soooo-
I like to think Orgon is pretty manipulative of them. Was he always like this? No, but he’s desperate to secure the disappearance of magic from Earth, and his manipulation gets worse and worse as the episodes go on, in the end being threats and guilt-tripping. He still cares but mostly how the wizards can be of service to the Black Circle. And yes Duman is his favorite because he has the best powers. Shapeshifting will always be OP and the best power in my heart.
Anyway that’s all folks. If I make a part 3 it’ll probs cover some other stuff like Jason Queen, which I like his character, it’s perfect for Musa’s development (until they made Bloom the fucking main singer like WHYYY) or perhaps talk about Klaus or Morgana, Tecna and Timmy and more about Nabu. Anyway I’ll go watch some more nostalgic minecraft videos and webtoon rants. See ya!

I have the exact same thought as you with regard to omega-alpha fic bc most of the time there are just Smut and the characters lose their actual personality. However, if it is done well it can be an interesting story. That is why in this case omega Buck makes more sense as he is the quiet leader, the one that takes care of people (give an apple to Curt, making sure everyone is fine at the camp, stays calm even when he is not) but if he needs to be aggressive to protect he will be (he is like a mama bear). I feel that in this case you could bring his dad background and integrate it in his omega orientation why he nest by himself and not with other (in my head i have a headcanon that he steals people clothing when he wants to nest). But I am also interested in your Alpha Buck and Alpha Bucky interpretation!
I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling like that about certain abo stories! And yes, omega Gale has a lot of potential. 😊
Random headcanons about an alpha x alpha scenario:
It would make sense in an abo 1940s world that the military only lets alphas and betas to join
Alpha doesn’t automatically mean leader type, but both Gale and Bucky are leaders
They like that they feel like equals in almost every way
They have different leadership styles, so in general situations, dominance depends on the circumstances. But it's usually Gale who has the final say because he’s calmer.
On the other hand, physical intimidation (if ever needed) is Bucky's thing
Bucky is more territorial than Gale and he rubs his scent everywhere. But especially on Gale. New replacements are always confused about which one is Buck and which is Bucky, because not only their names are the same, but they smell the same too
Gale has a good sense of smell and likes to nose at Bucky’s neck
In their relationship, dominance is always a game, and they love playing around, teasing each other, pulling at each other
When it comes to sex, there's often some wrestling involved and a lot of passion, so it's a bit rough
To take a knot without being equipped for it, one needs extra prep and patience, so that doesn’t happen every time

The Linked Universe Fandom and Trauma
It's a pretty common theme among fanfiction to explore topics of trauma. Who doesn't like to see the aftermath of dramatic events and life-threatening danger, which are so commonly shown in fiction?
On top of that, fandoms are very neurodiverse spaces, filled with many who have experienced trauma themselves. Using fiction to explore your own experiences is usually more healthy than other methods, but I've noticed that throughout those fandoms, and especially a small one like the LU fandom, the approaches to exploring PTSD range from nuanced and insightful to horrendously tone-deaf and inappropriate.
What's going on here?
(This essay is written by six people. We’ll mention events and feelings from our pasts, say we have a certain disorder/condition, and use I and we interchangeably—this warning is in case you began reading this and thought it was written by one person who was collecting mental and physical illnesses like infinity stones. Also, if you’d like to avoid the child abuse tag, we’ve put markers where the child abuse section begins and ends in bold.
Writers:
@artificialcharisma
@deuynndoodles
@wakingwinds
and three people who wished to remain anonymous.)
Part A. The Legend of Zelda: Abuse of the Child
(child abuse section begins)
What IS it with people and making the 7 year old a soldier?
Seriously. If you've read fics around this fandom, you know the amount of fics with Wild as a child soldier is mad high.
The story of BOTW is vague, which leaves a lot of room for speculation on backstory. A popular headcanon is that Link pulled the Master Sword at a young age and was raised as a knight since then.
You see a lot of child abuse in these fics. From his father, from Rhoam, from Zelda, name any character and they’ve probably yelled at him for not being good enough.
Someone portraying their child abuse is perfectly fine. Fanfiction, and by extension, writing in general, is a healthy space to explore your trauma.
These topics aren’t always done by people who are venting, though. These fics, usually written by someone who is only writing child abuse for the sake of angst, read like a morbid fascination with the concept of suffering—which is especially strange when applied to children.
Another thing to note is the way that many authors tend to reduce character's ages in a way to make their trauma seem "more credible", when in fact, any trauma is credible.
Let's take a look at the Hero of Time, the epitome of a child soldier.
It doesn't come off the same way authors depict Wild, and a key reason is this: It's fundamental to the story. If removed, you lose the lessons Ocarina of Time teaches you. In Wild's case, the only reason for the child soldier plotline is to gain sympathy points.
In Ocarina of Time, Link is a kid just coming into his childhood, and is immediately given full responsibility for something he didn't deserve to take responsibility for. He plays as an adult, and after the Master Sword, becomes an adult in other peoples' eyes. We, as the player, know this isn't the truth.
Link is given an adult role and by the end of the story, he is by most definitions, an adult, and becomes a child in body yet again and the cycle continues.
This is what's so interesting about Ocarina of Time—It’s what makes its story compelling.
Link being young is important to the themes of the story, and the trauma isn't the key focus. If it was removed, OOT wouldn't make sense.
Does Wild being 15 instead of 17 affect the story in any way? The objective answer is no. No, it doesn't.
(child abuse section ends)
Let's return to Wild and how his trauma affects the way fans view him.
Let me frame out a part of a fic for you: after an unexpected event, by accident or on purpose, Wild reveals his devastating backstory. The responses range from appalled to protective to altogether aghast at how someone so young could have undergone such a thing. Cue the comfort. Sounds familiar, doesn't it?
It's a fine sequence, but the tone and sometimes even the direct phrasing with which it's written often frames Wild as an incredibly admirable and strong individual who is /perfect as he is./
Let me frame out another fic concept: panic attacks, a popular topic in the hurt/comfort tag. Wild panics, someone comforts him, he reveals his tragic past, and—he gets up and is perfectly fine afterwards.
Besides having the occasional panic attack, flashback, and nightmare, Wild is sociable, kind, friendly. Ultimately, he's just the kind of person you would want to be.
However, when characters have an incredibly tragic backstory, experience only the most loud and attention-attracting symptoms of mental illness, and act completely unaffected and normal afterwards, is it really a portrayal of trauma, or is it just an excuse for angst?
Not only does this lead to the character being seen as unlikeable to those who do have personal experience with trauma, but it also gives those fics less of an emotional impact.
Part B. The Legend of Trauma: Asshole Pass
How much trauma gives you the green light to be rude and take it out on others?
Trick question. The answer is none. Trauma is a justification that can influence whether you will be forgiven, but in no way is a free pass that makes your actions right.
Legend has been through 6 adventures, so if there’s anyone who wins the completely arbitrary trophy of Most Numerous Trauma, it’s him.
One of the most common LU characterizations is that Legend Is An Asshole, which is kind of strange, because he absolutely is not in canon. He’s protective over his items and makes fun of people, but he is not a jerk. (This seems to be a running remark, the way that authors will demean one of the Links to one personality trait and one personality trait only.)
There’s no shorter way to say it than that. Writing Legend as a jerk who doesn’t need to apologize sends a similar message to the readers—that if they have a good enough “excuse,” they can get off scot-free, too.
In fics that center around him, his actions can come off as tone-deaf at best and downright cruel at worst, but it’s justified because he’s traumatized. Furthermore, it comes off like it’s more justified because he’s more traumatized. That’s not how it works.
Fanfiction is a place where people can write whatever they want. But what these authors tend to disregard is that other people can also read what you write. A lot of these readers are young and don’t have other mental health resources that talk about what they may be going through.
From when I was 13 to 17, I was an avid reader of fanfiction and also had issues in my family life. Because no other source discussed what people do in these situations, I thought the authors on Ao3 knew it better.
Fanfiction is obviously not a good source of information on mental illness, and we recommend that absolutely nobody use it as their resource on what is or isn’t acceptable, but we ask you to remember who your audience is.
When you subject young readers to these incorrect portrayals of mental illness, you might end up dictating how they view neurodivergence—-and when someone who’s reading has what you are portraying, they might see themselves in a negative light.
Fics that end in tragedy due to a character having a condition, leaving no hope for the character to recover or achieve their goals leave the reader in the same state too.
I’ll reiterate: Projection is fine, it’s just that when authors who don’t have the illness they’re portraying join in on the party, it starts to seem less like a creator expressing their feelings and more like a person using other people’s suffering as a form of angst.
Veering a little to the side to get to Wild, for a second—-in one of the most recent updates (depending on when you’re reading this) he made… a mistake! How terrible. Parts of the fandom decided that he was either A. Possessed by Dark Link, because Wild could never make a mistake, and it’s just not in his nature to, or B. He was terrible, annoying, and should get beat up by Four.
(I will admit, the Four jokes were pretty funny.)
With both these interpretations claiming that Wild lashing out was evil, the problem we’re discussing here is shown in full.
Wasn’t Wild lashing out due to his trauma?
This is what the fandom supposedly wanted: a correct portrayal of PTSD. The fandom’s idea of PTSD is less than correct, though, and an unromanticizable symptom isn’t forgivable.
Fanfiction is, by nature, self-indulgent, and rarely do people want to indulge in the ugly.
Part C. The Legend of The Other Ones I Guess
The Hero of the Skies. Everybody’s beloved soft and lazy boi.
And that's pretty much all he is, it seems.
Ignoring the flat characterization Sky goes through, there's still issues. Namely, chronic illness, and the way it is portrayed through him.
When you depict the only "lazy" character as someone with chronic illness, it reiterates the stereotype that neurodivergent and chronically ill people are lazy.
As an example, when I was on crutches, experiencing chronic fatigue, and asked for a quick favor, I was told to do it myself, even though they would have a much easier time doing it—like I was capable of completing the task, but I just didn’t want to do it.
It gets tiring after a certain point, and to see a fictional character that is called lazy by other people be tagged the chronically ill trait feels demeaning.
I don’t think it’s not a fun thing to explore, though—-I find it interesting to see, but there's a problem when it's only Sky. (I will admit, this is moreso a societal issue where 'lazy' and 'chronically ill' seem to go together, but that's not the point.)
You’re stuck between a rock and a hard place: thinking of Sky as lazy when he’s mentioned to be chronically ill, or thinking of Sky as chronically ill when he’s mentioned to be lazy.
When you’re able-bodied and/or neurotypical, it’s easy to fall back on stereotypes, and you need to think about why you think a character is disabled. If you’re allistic, why do you headcanon a robot as autistic? If you’re able-bodied, why do you headcanon the “lazy” character as chronically ill?
Another common “trait” people will give Sky is asthma, but I've always found this hard to follow.
As he grows up above the clouds (where we all know the air gets thinner as you go up) his body is already familiar with the strain.
Once he goes down to the surface, it would be noticeably easier to breathe—this is supported by real life children who grow up in high altitudes, who have to acclimate to high air pressure as they descend and, notably, still have to acclimate to the low levels of oxygen when they return, as well.
Instead, I propose chronic altitude sickness—commonly short bouts of illness related to changing altitudes without time to acclimate. This is both accurate and more interesting to read.
Sky is also often portrayed as having narcolepsy, a disorder with many stereotypes. Because it’s something even the medical field doesn’t know much about, it leads to people without narcolepsy who want to depict it in their fic thinking they don’t need to put research into it.
Narcolepsy is, in fact, incredibly complicated—I have narcolepsy, having fully gone through the long diagnostic process and everything and there's still things even I don’t understand about it.
To clear up any misconceptions: Narcolepsy is not a “falls asleep at random” disorder. Narcolepsy is a disorder of a person's sleep cycles, specifically REM sleep, as the brain is unable to regulate when the sleep cycles happen.
This can cause things like excessive daytime sleepiness, disrupted nighttime sleep, sleep paralysis, hallucinations, having your brain be stuck in autopilot, (meaning your body keeps moving after your brain tells it to stop) and if you have Narcolepsy Type-1, cataplexy.
I won’t go too in-depth, though. I am not a doctor. I just know what my sleep specialist has told me. Please do your own research and talk to people who have this condition (and if you don’t know anyone, you know me now! @wakingwinds on tumblr—I don’t bite, I promise).
Narcolepsy is not cute, or fun, or something you can use as a tool for angst. Narcolepsy is real. I and many others suffer from it daily. I love the idea of Sky with narcolepsy, but only when it’s done right.

The Hero of the Four Sword. The least popular LU character (at least in terms of fics), and the subject of some pretty heavy discourse.
The writer of this section is a system, and I am speaking to the singlets of the Linked Universe fandom. There are a couple things I want to touch on here, and hopefully, I will be able to better educate people who want to learn.
First off, Four. Specifically, singlets portraying him with DID.
DID is something that has a lot of stereotypes and misconceptions even within the psych field, which is something I won’t get into here, but it’s safe to say that if you want to portray it properly you’re going to need to be very careful.
In my opinion, I don’t think singlets should write Four with DID.
The fact of the matter is that Four… doesn’t have DID. Four’s plurality was caused by a magic sword, not trauma. You can write Four as plural without giving them DID, which avoids issues with an accurate portrayal.
Obviously, you still shouldn’t use pluralphobic stereotypes (the “evil alter”, among others), but I would hope that’s a given. Once again, this is my personal opinion. There are probably going to be systems who disagree with me on this, and I am absolutely open to hearing their thoughts on the subject in a constructive conversation.
If you’re a singlet who wants to write Four with DID, I’m not going to stop you, even though in my opinion, this subject should be left to systems to write on their own if they want to.
So, how can you do it right?
Talk to systems. Every system will have vastly different experiences, so if you can it’s best to talk to multiple, but not everyone knows that many systems (and if you don’t know any at all, once again, you know me now. @wakingwinds on tumblr etc etc).
Make sure you do research into the real life experiences of real systems, not just what some singlets have boiled it down to. Systemhood is a very varied experience, so in all honesty, as long as you aren’t being actively harmful and talk to some systems about your portrayal it’s not too hard to do it right.
The second topic I wanted to touch on is how all of you as singlets can make this community more welcoming to the systems in it. I personally have had some incredibly bad experiences in this fandom directly related to being a system, and I know I’m not the only system who’s dealt with the same thing.
First off, even though the whole idea of multiple people sharing a body may seem “weird” or “unrealistic” to you, we do exist.
Do not assume a system you know is faking. You don’t know them, you are not their therapist, you are not inside their head, and quite frankly, it is none of your business. Especially as a singlet. Just let systems exist. It doesn’t matter if you think introjects are “cringy” or think that everyone on the internet is faking for attention. It’s not your place.
Treat introjects like real people, not characters, because that’s what they are. Some introjects may be similar to their source, some are entirely detached from it, but at the end of the day they are a real person. Not roleplay.
Next, have pluralkit and/or tupperbox in your servers! These bots are used by many systems to proxy as themselves, with their own names and profile pictures. I know for me, it is so incredibly validating to be able to proxy as myself in a server instead of having to mask as our collective singletsona, and the rest of my system feels the same.
None of them want to have to pretend to be me, so in servers without pluralkit they feel alienated – like they can’t talk at all.
Ask the systems you know about their boundaries. Everyone has a different experience, and they will want to be treated differently. Do they want to all be treated as separate people? Cool! Do they all consider themselves facets of the same person? Also cool!
Ask about what language they prefer and most of all, be respectful. A little bit of kindness and an attempt at understanding goes a long way. And hey, if you really want to help make the community more of a safe space, call out the pluralphobia you see in other singlets.
Listen to systems and boost their voices. Stay out of any system related discourse/drama. And most of all, just be nice to people.

The Hero of Time.
Something I've noticed is how many people seem to interpret Time as a stoic, stern heroic figure. There's nothing wrong with this interpretation, but there's something I find lacking about it.
Let's look at the fanon interpretation of Mask, before we get into Time.
Mask is commonly used in Hyrule Warriors fics or as a younger, teenage version of Time. He is typically jaded, angsty, angry and snarky—and I enjoy seeing such characterizations, since it's a realistic way to lash out from trauma. Said fics also explore the consequences of his 'angsty teenager' actions, which is also great.
Now, let's remember that Time canonically has a form of support in Malon, and perhaps other characters we haven't met. While, yes, he can be stony and stoic at times, that's not all he is.
He opens up, he lets himself show his emotions to others, talks about what makes him happy. All things Mask doesn't do—because he has had time to heal from his trauma.
Not to say he isn't perfect. Of course he makes mistakes, of course his trauma hasn't up and disappeared. But he's learned how to be himself again.
I notice in fics where Time is this epitome of a stoic, heroic figure; it feels like his efforts have been erased, like he's still stewing in his trauma. This feels like we're reducing him to a character archetype (which is fine, as long as that's not all it is) and erasing what makes him such an interesting character.
-
We all create art to indulge and enjoy sharing our creations with others, and that's completely fine—encouraged, even.
However, something we must always keep in mind is the fact that while fiction isn't reality, they are symbiotic and affect each other drastically. Propaganda takes example of this by influencing peoples' minds through content, even fictional content. The word may have a negative context, but it can apply to anything—even this essay!
When you write fiction, you must remember that if you share it with other people, the information in it will subconsciously ingrain in their minds.
And when said information is stigmatized, stereotyped, or puts off incorrect ideas of trauma and how to heal, it can hurt many people.
Disabled people are not your tools for angst.
You don't have to take everything to heart here, but we ask that you at least take a second to think critically about yourself and the things you read.
That's all.

hm. thoughts on mipha? maybe how she thought about the calamity + how she’d think of the other champions (if. you havent answered this already!)
ohoho well :) if you insist
haha as far as the calamity goes she has got. the Dread and she has got it bad. even though some of the other champions' outlook on defeating calamity ganon is optimistic (even gaffen thinks everything is going to be fine), mipha is really...not super confident in the whole thing. she keeps this to herself most of the time, and really thinks she's overthinking it most of the time, but she still has a looming sense of dread about the whole thing. she talks with vah ruta about it occasionally. daruk has told her that the best thing to do about it is to make plans for the future, so she has done a bit of that! they've talked about meeting up on death mountain once everything is over. she tries to keep herself busy with projects. she really likes weaving and crafting in general god I just imagined her weaving a little turtle somewhere on the zora armor throws up. her favorite animal is turtles.
she's afraid of dying and afraid of living and afraid of giving up but can't see herself winning. you know. the general looming horror of existence. embracing your death because you're lonely and the walls you've built around yourself are too terrible to bring down. idk.
she is terrified by the prospect of having to potentially lose her life fighting the calamity, well. she's always lived for other people and doesn't really take her own health or safety in mind much. really funny because she'll absolutely get on other people's cases for doing the same thing she does. if gaffen and her were closer they'd constantly piss each other off bc of this and i think its hilarious
ultimately the only thing that really stays in her mind as a reason to look forward to things is living for people she thinks can be genuine. she loves her little brother because she thinks he can show his feelings where she just. can't. because that would mean not being a fuckin doormat and she thinks she's morally obligated to be one for her people's sake lmao. this is part of the reason shes so obsessed with gaffen because she thought he was a genuine person when he was little and now he's not so she's like. maybe we could learn how to be real people together. or maybe just with ourselves. its more of a subconscious thing she doesnt actively think this but shes such an i can fix him girl. stop
sorry for going on a tangent about mipha I dont even generally like quiet passive characters whose canon personality boils down to love interest I just decided she was a people pleaser and everyone around turned her into a saint when she wasnt and she was never truly known um throws myself into a pit of flames. heaven forbid i read too much into implications. i love women!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
now where was I. oh yeah the champions.
i've already partially explained her relationship with revali long story short she doesn't like him. example of a guy who needs to shut up Immediately. which isnt to say she wouldnt like to get along with him he seems like a person who has good qualities she just wishes he would shut up, so she gets passive aggressive around him
daruk!! ok they actually do really like each other because how could you not like daruk cmon. he's seen through her polite facade a few times and seen how scared she is so he's tried to help her out a bit and she appreciates it a lot :] (yea I know gaffen and mipha both like him its that magnetic extrovert guy charm and I really like introvert-extrovert dynamics)
daruk and urbosa are actually good friends lmao so daruk has passed some of what he knows onto her. so yea mipha also likes her. appreciates her advice quite a bit they train together sometimes!! shes really interested in gerudo jewelry as well she has a few pieces urbosa has given her as a gift and she's given urbosa some zora pieces
so yeah

Sorry this took so long! Had the playlist itself ready for a good while, but hadn't gotten to the cover art.
Oh, boy. I thought I had things to explain before, but I went absolute clown mode on this one. I'm pretty glad I have things to say about this list, since John can feel a bit overlooked despite being just as interesting of a character as the rest. It's probably a mixture of him being the outdoorsy guy and his backstory, buuut...
Here's the John playlist for all the sunny sweethearts! Expect some bumps in the road, though. There's also some long songs in this one, including one I mentally wrestled over for a good while before even putting this list together (the opera one, in case anyone's curious).
Wellerman, covered by The Longest Johns, is my choice for the first song. John's listed favorite genres are sea shanties and celtic music, so it had to be one or the other. I guess it was sort of a good thing people lost their minds during the pandemic and returned to sea shanties (actually the pandemic was genuinely terrible, even if the shanties were fine). I think that this is the only a capella song in the playlists.
The second song is Mountain Sound by Of Monsters and Men. I wanted something kind of upbeat and I liked the theme of running from your past, for reasons. If you know, you know. Spoiler cut below for Picture Perfect Boyfriend's bonus word doc, as well as Picture Perfect Boyfriend REBOOT.
Bust Your Knee Caps by Pomplamoose is an option I was mentally eyeballing for a while for John's old identity, Max. That dude has major gangster vibes, so I had to put this in. He almost beats the player with brass knuckles, so I feel secure in this assessment.
Each and Every One is a song I decided to add in for the Glory version of Lily, someone that Max held a flame for. Needless to say, she couldn't bear how miserable things had become around him and I think this is a good song to reflect that. While Max did seem to have a soft spot for her, he doesn't seem adept at hiding his general nature and low opinion of other people around him.
This next song is like 12 minutes long and I can't believe I'm subjecting you guys to this. You have to understand, though: At heart, I'm old-school Final Fantasy garbage. So, yeah, we have a Distant Worlds concert recording of Opera "Maria and Draco" (from Final Fantasy VI). If there was a trimmed down version, maybe I could have gone for that. I chose this for the Lily, Eislied, and Max love triangle (who, in the song, would be Maria the mezzo-soprano, Draco the tenor, and Ralse the baritone, respectively). It seemed like Max would have taken losing a tad more gracefully (like Ralse respecting the results of the duel) if not for Lily's tragically young death, which leads us to...
Bitch Better Have My Money by Rihanna and I'd pretty self-explanitory, with how Max extorted Vincent's father. While Max had gotten worse to people after Lily left him, taking it out on everyone under him more and more, I get the feeling something well and truly snapped when she died. Maybe he could have learned to cope in time (not that it would be any consolation to the people he tormented), but I doubt he saw any value in self-improvement once Lily was gone. Really foolish, since his vile behavior was what pushed her away in the first place, but grief's not always rational.
Oak & Ash & Thorn is the transition between the absurdly cruel Max to the gentle protector John. That amnesia was practically like a spell on him. The Morning Dew is next and that one's some classic celtic music to chill or dance to.
Next up is Apple Green by Mother Earth because I have to inflict acid jazz upon everyone once again. I think it's safe to say that John wasn't some type of nature enjoyer in his previous life as Max, but that's behind him now. He definitely appreciates the beauty and color of the world around him now and I wanted to put this song in to reflect that.
The Mariner's Revenge Song by The Decemberists is also pretty long, so I'm feeling kind of silly in retrospect for worrying about song length back in Ashton's playlist. Then again, both the opera song and this one are both story songs, so I find it a bit easier to justify their lengths. This is a special choice, in that there's a side story (the word doc I mentioned before) about Vincent first meeting John and realizing right away that this was Max with amnesia.
Autumn's Song is here to represent John's favorite season. The nostalgic nature of it can hint at those old memories simmering inside of him, something that he understandably fears.
I wouldn't blame you guys if you clowned the hell out of me for this next one, but I chose Rainbow Connection by Kermit, from The Muppet Movie. It's just such a simple and sweet song. I feel like it really fits in with John being a kind and romantic person, seeing beauty and mystery in life when he hadn't before. I imagine John's flights of fancy also probably irritate Ashino a bit, which is funny with him having a crush on Kadsey. Wildflower Jigs is another song in here for the good vibes. Who doesn't enjoy a good jig, right? It kind of makes me miss ren fairs, since I haven't been to any since the pandemic.
Blackbird/Yesterday is an interesting Beatles mashup that was made for the Cirque du Soleil show, Love, and I think the sentiments of both songs really fit with John in general. Yesterday, the song that the lyrics are from, is a classic about the pain of being left behind by an important woman while Blackbird, which the guitar is taken from, is a song that's a little more abstract (to a degree) but always feels to me like moving past the pain life can bring. Both of the songs Stardust (Vocal Version) by Hoagy Carmichael and Happy to Be Here by Wookiefoot are for John's recovered memories. I feel like a crooner song fits Max (or at least his old-timey gangster vibes, since it's hard for me to imagine Max actually enjoying any particular genre) more while something somewhat more contemporary fits John, at least in that John is the here and now. In general, John seems like a very "happy to be here" sort of guy, even if things can be tough.
Bonny Portmore by Loreena McKennitt and In the Woods Somewhere by Hozier are to reflect the danger to the woods that John has called home for a while and the animals he's resolved to protect. If it weren't for that and Vincent's troubles, I have a feeling that John would've willfully stayed in the dark about his past for longer. I was also wondering while listening to In the Woods Somewhere if John ever has small recollections of being murdered, though he didn't really have time to process what happened. This leads us into Hello My Old Heart by The Oh Hellos, where John finally admits aloud that he's Max. I like the theme of this song, that you can't grow if you hide your heart away.
Remember when I chose a song in Vincent's playlist to acknowledge the yandere ends? Here's round 2: electric-boogaloo with the song Honeybee by Steam Powered Giraffe. Harmonizing singing groups (like barbershop quartets and such) seem like something that John could really appreciate. Also, very convenient title, considering one of the consistent particular details between the yandere ends. Again, I have speculations about what that all means and those make me pretty pleased that this recording is also an ensemble sort of song instead of a solo. I think it's a solo when played live, but I'll admit that I've never seen these guys perform despite some overlap in convention visits.
Thus Always To Tyrants feels like a good song for acknowledging that Max is John's past, but it's not who he needs to be in every way despite reclaiming that identity. That's kind of a given, but I feel for him and his fear to never become such a horrendous person again. Now that I think about it, he and Ashton could make a support group. Maybe they could drag Ashino in early, too, to save us all some grief.
Closing things off with the classic John Denver song Take Me Home, Country Roads. While John has to fit into his old life to some extent, he's taking all that he's become with him and being a better person for it. That's another great ending that I hope can stick.

What are your stance on cultural appropriation? I feel like over the years it has been continuously changing as time went on. Now suddenly, people even attempting at being appreciative wouldn't be enough and more action such as gatekeeping culture would be necessary.
One of my friend for example used to feel insecure about his culture and used to say he was from somewhere else. As he grew older, he grew out of that phase due to possibly more representation on the media since he never used to see his country being talked about before unless it was a French channel. Whenever he shows his pride through K-pop, he would always have messages telling him to "gatekeep" his culture before anyone else takes it. Even just a light-hearted comment of us wasn't safe. He knows that he doesn't want to gatekeep his culture and would love to share it out to as many people as he could. In fact, when a Korean artist Penomeco made an afrobeats song, he felt like he was the only person cheering him on whilst the vast majority hated him since he was doing "cultural appropriation." This is literally the reason why he is now desensitized to any sort, even if it's real or not. People can be very insensitive to when they mention a very topic like this and just say it when people don't want to. It basically gives them the reputation that they always whine whenever someone does something and no matter what, there's no way of winning since there's a cult-like following that agrees with this sort of thing. Although I'm not black so I cannot really say if this is the case, but I can say that it is going a little bit too far that I'm losing faith in humanity every day. I've seen some with Asian culture which isn't as vocal as the others, and yeah it is just as dumb. I think since we grew up with stuff like "International Day" at school or wherever else, we basically grew open to learning about other cultures. It's super obvious that those people has probably never experienced that kind of thing that they wouldn't even know what is it like to share your culture by making food to bring along, dressing up in traditional clothing (or just a football shirt if you were lazy) and listening to music together. I'm from the UK so I don't know if schools has something like this as well. I feel like for the next generation, we should teach kids that we shouldn't gatekeep your culture because it's changing every day and every new generation creates more history to that said culture. You don't just represent your culture, you also represent the future of the culture. Sometimes, things change and that's what happens. The earth used to have one big continent and after millions of years later, we now have 7 since they're broken up in pieces, but do you ever hear about people complaining about that? Before Korea used to be one whole country, now it has broken up into 2. Why aren't we still calling our country Korea? Although you can say that I'm Korean, but they aren't the same country, at least for now unless the Kim family says otherwise. Mad to even think that we separated in the 1950s... just about 70 decades ago, we were one Korea!
Sorry it kinda turned into a rant. 😭
It's fine and I agree I think there's a line between appreciation and appropriation. And it's not a thin line. The only requirement is respect and intent. If it's done in a respectful manor in a way to appreciate the culture with genuine interest and love then it's fine. Obviously there's things that hold a spiritual importance that is just off limits unless you are partaking in it and are invited. And that varies from culture to culture. As long as everything is done with respect and love than I think that's all that matters. I only see issue in things that shows true racial ignorance and prejudice. Like when cultural elements are used as a joke, and being mocked like that's not okay. Like if someone is reducing anyone to the consumable parts of they're culture and not seeing them as actual people who will never fit in the box they built for them. Thats when you need to reevaluate. But other than that. it's fine. Its important to share cultures with one another. I think sharing is a great thing and we should exchange our cultures

2, 12, 15 for Dottore for the ask game —canon-can-fight-me
hey hey thank u!! :]
Tumblr media
2: ""The Take Over, the Breaks Over"" - How would your f/o describe you to a friend? What are some things they always include? Some things they seem to leave out? And vice versa if you want— how would you describe them to someone you know?
HUM WELL OK UH. at first i think he doesn't really....talk about silvio much at all, and whenever he does he probably just refers to him as "the human" or anything similar. later this might develop into "my human" at first, but it's more him being kind of possessive rather than being affectionate, and the only time he really talks about him is when he tells the other automata not to mess with him in any way.
his initial reason for spending time with silvi is thinking that maybe he can better understand how to make Lady Francine laugh by observing human behavior as well as a general sort of...curiosity in human emotions & desires, plus he sometimes has silvi tell him their fortune, so whenever he speaks to the other pionniers about him he mainly just tells them about everything that he believes could be helpful or otherwise of interest to them. columbine is probably the firs one to kinda start teasing dottore about this a little and starts questioning whether this is TRULY the only reason he's spending so much time with him?? ;) but he always shuts her down pretty fast because OBVIOUSLY he doesn't care about him like that, that would be preposterous.
anyway um yeah later on when he's not trying to hide his affection for him anymore he definitely pretty much exclusively refers to him as "my silvi" or any variant of his pet names for him.... :') he'd also probably lightly boast about various things silvi does (whether or not it's actually anything impressive/praiseworthy) and generally present him in a very flattering light lmao
Tumblr media
12: "Fame < Infamy" - Are there any unusual headcanons you have about your f/os?
i haven't really come across many headcanons about him so i wouldn't really know what counts as unusual haha....i'd say making him capable of falling in love with silvio might be unusual, but i've seen fanart depicting him in romantic relationships with other characters or just generally showing a "softer" side of him so it's probably also not that weird.....
as far as headcanons in general go, i kinda like to take some inspiration from his namesake (the commedia dell'arte character) and imagine that um...while he's genuinely very intelligent, he also has a somewhat overinflated ego (<- which is real and true even in canon i believe) and also likes to pretend he knows more than he actually does and sometimes likes to monologue about things he doesn't actually fully understand (which probably mostly concerns Human Things in his case?). silvio actually doesn't mind tho and enjoys listening to him because it's entertaining either way (plus he also doesn't really know shit) <3 also, even though i do wanna explore aforementioned soft side, i kinda don't wanna make him TOO nice lmao. i like when he's just being a pompous asshole and kills people :)
Tumblr media
15: "G.I.N.A.S.F.S." ("Gay Is Not a Synonym for Shitty") - Once you both fell for each other, did either of you start acting differently around the other? Or did either of you manage to act normal™ around the other?
AUGH i typed up something but accidentally deleted it somehow but it's ok it's fine (smiling thru the pain). anyway yeah to be honest i think not that much would change, at least outwardly. i think they also both don't really have this huge "oh wait i'm IN LOVE with him" moment, rather it's them being placed in a situation in which the possibility of them losing each other is suddenly very real (or rather silvio has already "lost" dottore once before), and it makes them realize how much they're actually scared of that possibility and how helpless it makes them feel. so if anything, i think they'd probably just try harder to protect each other and stick around each other more closely....i also think that dottore would generally be more shocked by the realization that he's capable of such feelings at all rather than falling in love with silvi in particular, so this is definitely something he needs to unpack first once they're in a safer place

Home-repairer
*clang* *clang* *clang* - the familiar sound of a Pyro “helping” an Engineer build
A friendly Pyro can do almost everything for an Engineer: reflecting projectiles, checking for Spies, even removing sappers with the Homewrecker or Neon Annihilator. Almost everything... except repair damaged buildings.
First off, I’d like to thank my friend LdrJagMan for suggesting this to me. As the resident expert on Jag-related matters, he proposed giving the Pyro an option to repair buildings, and I agreed to discuss it because hey, I like ideas.
To start off, we’ve agreed that this repair should expend some kind of resource rather than being free. I’ve gone a step further and said that it should not be freely refillable from dispensers either - if it were just flamethrower ammo, Pyros could repair infinitely. Metal, which dispensers only generate periodically, would be another option, but it would be a shame to give the Pyro a whole metal meter and not use it for anything except repairing.
I’ve also opted to make this a melee weapon just for convenience. A flamethrower would also work fine, a bit like a welding torch, but flame particles can be a bit tricky and the range is relatively similar anyway. First iteration, coming up!
Home-repairer Iteration 1 Pyro melee (+) Generate REPAIR by dealing damage with any weapon. Alt-fire to hit a friendly building and expend repair energy to heal it. (-) -25% swing speed (-) No random critical hits
For data’s sake, I think that the repair meter would charge up to 100% at, say, 500 damage dealt. You could expend it in increments of up to 25% to heal up to 60 health per swing.
Of course, this inherently makes Engineer nests tougher to take down, a bit like having multiple of the same class would. The Pyro’s unique skillset also means that the nest wouldn’t be as vulnerable to the standard Engineer counters, allowing for nearly-unbreakable holds. That is certainly a problem that we'll want to bear in mind when discussing this weapon.
The other big issue I see is the opportunity cost associated with this weapon. “Opportunity cost” is an economics term that describes all the choices you don’t make. In this case, when you equip this weapon, you forego all other melees, and if you equip another melee, you lose out on this weapon. That’s especially important because you can’t equip both this and the Homewrecker (though you could always just bring two Pyros), meaning that you can either repair buildings or remove sappers - not both.
And the Engineer’s feelings enter into it, too. What kind of frustration might spring up when a Pyro declines to equip this melee and the sentry goes down as a result? Probably similar frustrations to when Pyros don’t have the Homewrecker, or when friendly Engineers watch your buildings die. This frustration might not be too awful, but the opportunity cost and peer pressure associated with this weapon are worth bearing in mind.
I’m on the fence here: I think Pyros and their Engineers could have a lot of fun with this weapon, but I worry that its main function is to address a weakness rather than to bring new, interesting options for its user. You can only stand by a sentry waiting to repair it for so long, is what I’m saying. And there’s always the question of whether it would make Engineer nests too hard to dislodge.
But that doesn’t mean this weapon is doomed! It’s entirely possible that there are other ways to take this that might be better for gameplay. What would you do?

And then what happened?
So if you're following along with our story, here we are being jerked around by unscrupulous rental agents, and all I know is that we need to secure something for at least November 1 to save my own sanity. It would have been nice to stay in the city we're in, would have been nice to have something of similar quality to what we have now, but none of that mattered to be honest. What mattered now was stability, and who was going to be able to give it to me.
As I mentioned, while I was still sitting in the parking lot of the previous place I had seen (sitting in the visitor's parking, in case we want to laugh about that a little), I started calling around to a few places under a different management company, though the same kind of situation: one management company with multiple buildings across the lower mainland, and all of them of similar 'quality' and rent (meaning it's not exactly the Ritz, but it'll do).
I was scheduled in to see a place I thought was in Guildford but was disappointed to know they actually scheduled me to see something much further west, which is in one of those areas where you are not too far away (8 - 15 minutes) away from anything but are literally close to absolutely nothing. It was also close to the wrong bridge -- don't get me wrong, we can use this bridge, it just sucks.
Apparently the general manager of the building manages several buildings so when I called one number looking for 2-bedroom places, she just recommended a place she happened to have, and that was that. So unlike the last attempt at seeing a place, I do not blame the manager for this, she probably thought I knew, particularly as she gave me the address and I didn't really clue in until the next day, heh. That's a 'me' problem.
Went down to see it the following day. Similar to the place we had seen from the other place, it was "fine" -- old, but functional, and has the space we need. It's again not exactly the Ritz, but at least it had a dishwasher, allowed 2 pets, gave us 2 parking spaces (we have to pay for them but nothing exorbitant), and had a storage area in the unit as well as the 2-bedrooms we need. The downside of any of these places is the lack of laundry in the unit -- the laundry room is a hike to say the least, but it's through the building and not outside to a laundromat, so I'll take it. I've already ordered an extra rolling laundry cart. The upside is that the machines are card-op not coin-op, which is good because I was not interested in going to the bank every couple of weeks for quarters (what is this, the 90s? but that's what many places have still).
I wasn't going to lose out on this place in this market, so I immediately said we'd take it, but of course we have to fill out an application and have their head-office 'approve' it. I jumped through a billion hoops to get the wheels moving that day, and hoped for a positive answer the next.
All the while my spouse has not even seen the place in person, the poor guy. But that's very common when we move. I'm much more flexible in my work schedule, and I end up picking the place. The only thing I worry about is that we've become quite accustomed to the standard of quality we live in now (a condo in a decent building not so old really), and moving back into the types of places we used to live in 3 to 5 years ago could be a shock; but, we've always managed to make each place our own.
It was really nerve-wracking waiting for the approval. I spent the next 24 hours biting my nails, eating my heart, and fearing I'd get a call or an email simply that someone else rented it. I don't know how that would happen at this point, but everything I'd been through already told me nothing was impossible in this nonsense market. I ended up emailing several times throughout the day and I'm pleased with the kindness showed to us by the building manager for keeping us up-to-date and not ever becoming annoyed with my inquiries if she had heard anything. I think she understood. That was more than the last place.
It was already 4:30pm and we hadn't gotten the approval, and she didn't have it either, we were all waiting on head office. She said we'd probably at this point have to wait until tomorrow. I wanted to cry.
Finally in my time of need, I decided to turn to divination. The cards are always accurate for me right? That's what I've always been saying. So I did a thorough shuffle and drew a card, for the question of our approval, and... the cards didn't make sense. So much so that I drew a second card for clarity, and it also made zero sense, so in an absolutely exceptional situation where I could not make sense of either card, I drew yet another card totaling 3 now, and that card didn't make any sense either!
It's hard to describe what I mean by 'made no sense' but I hope people familiar with divination may understand that not every result is a usable answer to the question being asked -- sometimes, the cars are trying to say something else. That's when I realized the cards were trying to tell me this was not their question to answer.
Fair.
So I decided to throw Fedw instead, something Wepwawet proceeded to laugh at. He hates when I throw Fedw for myself, as He always says to just listen to Him closely and I won't need any of the 'extra nonsense', something I've spoken about this before; however, still, from time to time, my anxiety gets the better of me, my mind is clouded, my path is unclear. "Throw the sticks," He says, exasperated with me. And I do. He basically screams at me "YOU'RE FINE, KID" and that was that. The result was that the approval is go.
I received the approval about an hour later.
So now here we are, packing up our lives, budgeting our limited resources, to make a move we don't really want to make but such is life. I think it will be a little better than I'm thinking it will be, but in the absolute worst-case scenario, the lease is only 6 months long (and then month to month) so if we wanted to leave, we'd be able to do so much sooner than in many other rentals which normally require 1 year. Admittedly I do worry about that 6-month requirement being half of usual, as though they expect us to leave after only that time, but... that is hopefully my mental illness speaking and not the voice of reason.
Hopefully.
Tumblr media
So again this weekend I pulled another card for the week ahead, and the card was... Bat.
Joy and Manifestation! Yes... please. I need joy and manifestation a thousand times over. A thousand of bread, a thousand of beer, a thousand of fowl and cattle, a thousand of cool water... let's do this.
I have moved many times over the years. I tend to orchestrate the majority of the move myself (packing, cleaning, etc.) with my spouse doing the heavy lifting. I prefer it like this because the act of "doing" helps to center and align my mind away from the anxiety of the task ahead (the actual process of moving).
The decluttering began on the weekend following our landlord's wishy-washyness so I had already made a great start to do so. Now I just need to keep the momentum. It took me two whole days to carefully pack up the Star Trek collection and the Jackal Packal (my shrines, heh), but those are entirely done, so I can move on.
The move happens on Oct 13. Why Oct 13? I'm not sure. It's the date I was called to, so I'll take it.
Cheers ~ Nesi

(Gary anon) People finding an excuse to hate characters? A tale as old as time, unfortunately. Those these days, it feels like there's always morality and dangerous cases of policing attached to it. (Couldn't tell ya, honestly. Forums aren't immune to this, but there's a difference between those and upfront sites like Twitter and Youtube, where you're dodging landmines every week against your will. And that fact you directly message creators and directors? Ignoring works, but only so much)
.
(Part 2) (when death threats are being thrown in droves) A break and some time to enjoy other things in the meanwhile (Mhm, the thing I remember distinctly is Oak being the one that gave Blue [and his sister] their pendant; which actually saves Blue at one point. Also has a picture of his granddad inside. And Oak being rescued by his grandkid a few times and playing an authoritative role sometimes) Keeping his starter a secret was fine, there was a fun mystery to it.
(Part3) Problem was that they practically kept everything ELSE about Gary a secret too. So you're left with more questions surrounding him than answers; no matter how strong a presence his character was. (And Tyranitar redemption) As said, I'm not going hold my breath on it and need to see how the PWC and Project Mew are handled first before properly speculating on how Journeys ends. But I am 75% certain Ash will have something post-PWC that determines his next step.
(Part 4) (We know it's at least either Mega or Z-move for Leon. If it's Pika-Z there, it's looking like G-max Gengar for Steven. Especially when it just had a training episode) Cynthia, the only thing I'm sure on is Dragonite being the final to make up for losing to Paul. (Generally curious how they'll react to the Twerp potentially ending up the strongest trainer in the world. They've always been secret supporters)
Yeah, and unfortunately it's hard not to think people grasping for any reason to hate on a perfectly fine character comes from some kind of prejudice, considering the kinds of characters that tends to happen with (when it's not related to shipping, but that tends to fall into misogyny pretty often too). Which makes it interesting that sometimes people will try to come up with "moral" reasons to justify it, like reading a character's actions in the most bad-faith way possible. (Leon as an example, gets painted as a bad brother with surprising frequency despite how clearly he loves and cares about Hop?)
Yeah, it's really hard to say why people who are connected by their interest in a piece of media so wholesome can be so cruel. It happened with the Undertale fandom too, I remember--Undertale being a game where one of the major themes is how powerful kindness can be, yet. For a while its fanbase was notoriously toxic (and also super transphobic, pretty sure people are still misgendering the nonbinary characters to this day).
Back when the fandom was obsessively hating on SwSh I remember getting called a shill for... saying harassing the developers and whatever poor soul runs the Pokemon Twitter is not okay. In hindsight I wish I could laugh about how petty and childish grown adults were about the Dexit thing, but prioritizing a game over the well-being of real people is kind of a horrifying sense of priorities.
But uh. Putting that really unfortunate topic aside. Yeah, the break for Pokeani is for the best. Giving us all some time to settle down and focus on other things.
Oh, I remember that! Blue took a razor wind to the chest and it probably would've killed or at least seriously injured him were it not for that. Thank goodness for Adventures Oak's forethought. (And now I've grabbed and started flipping through my copy of volume 3 and been reminded the scene where Blue finds where Professor Oak is tied up and rescues him is so sweet? Blue's so concerned and with how cool and aloof Adventures Blue usually acts, it's adorable.)
(But I will read my manga later when I'm not in the middle of responding to messages.)
Yeah, waiting until the right time for a big reveal of Gary's starter was fine (and interestingly in hindsight, it was subtly hinted at by him making his second appearance very briefly (read: he opened a door in Ash's face and walked off without a word) in the Squirtle episode, which was a clever bit of foreshadowing on the writers' part) but uh. They kept so much about him hidden and mysterious and it's hard to say why.
Yes, and Tyranitar redemption!
Yeah, I guess at this point only time will tell how that plays out.
Should be interesting to see how all that goes! Exciting stuff!
Yeah, it'll be great to see how the TRio reacts to that! They usually end up rooting for him during these things.

Online Safety Relevant to the Current State of the Internet
On twitter I made a tweet about how online safety lessons in school can be very out of touch but that the advice of people who are familiar with the current internet shouldn't be disregarded. So here's my informal collection of online safety tips
Sources: unrestricted internet access since elementary school (not recommended), being a formerly involuntarily home bound person for several years that amassed way too much online experience
This could possibly hold upsetting reminders to people who had bad experiences online including mentions of grooming and emotional manipulation so please proceed with caution!
Information Sharing
Make an online pseudonym for public profiles and websites.
Don’t feel like you have to list everything about you for the world to see.
Sometimes it’s not a question of “can this information be used to locate and identify me irl?”, but simply “do I want this information publicly available and linked to my online persona?”
Unlike offline, being online leaves a constant trail of who you were accessible at all times. People are constantly growing and changing. Try to limit the information you share so you can ditch that trail and start over if need be.
Sharing information with people you make friends with and trust is a judgement call on your part, but always be on the safe side and be protective of your information.
Start as cautious as possible with online safety. Any risks or judgement calls can come later when you are 1. aware of the risks, 2. ready to address them if they occur, and 3. have gathered plenty of information instead of doing something blindly and hoping for the best.
Do not share your triggers publicly, they can very easily be used against you. Instead use websites with a large amount of filtering options to curate your online experience. If you are going to share them, only do it privately with people you trust.
Importance of Boundaries
It doesn’t matter how mature you are, don’t enter age limited spaces you don’t qualify for. It’s disrespectful to the boundaries of the people who made that space. Boundaries like this exist for the comfort of both sides involved.
Just because you can “handle it” doesn’t mean it’s good for you. Desensitization is not something to brag about.
Venting or making r18 posts as a minor on a public account is VERY dangerous. Intense emotional vulnerability is something manipulators will look for as a way to get to you. The same with sexual jokes to develop your comfort talking about those topics casually and eventually escalating the situation. If you are going to talk about such things please keep that in private conversations with people you trust in your age group.
Note the difference between public and private online space. Tweeting something on a public account is not the same as having a conversation in the cafeteria with your friends.
If an adult tries talking to you about r18, run the other way. Doesn’t matter how cool you are, it says something weird about THEM if they’re willing to talk to a minor about that stuff.
If someone( like 3+ years, honestly depends on how old you are) older than you wouldn't be comfortable saying what they're saying to you in front of other people (like a teacher or guardian), that's suspicious as hell. Run in the other direction.
The younger you are, the more age gaps matter. There's a bigger difference in development between a 13 year old and a 17 year old than there is between a 20 year old and a 24 year old. It helps to try to contextualize it with real people instead of numbers. Instead of thinking "oh just 4 years? that's not that weird" consider "oh. that would be like a freshman (13/14) dating a senior (17/18). yikes."
Be just as wary of people your own age talking about things that make you uncomfortable. Just like irl, sometimes you’ll meet people your age that are hurtful.
Friends complain to each other and talk about their issues, that alone is fine. But when people are doing it without permission, draw a line. When people are making it feel like you’re responsible for maintaining their mental health, you need to draw a line. When it starts to effect your mental health, PLEASE DRAW A LINE! I know it feels like your responsibility sometimes, but it’s not. You cannot be there for others if you’re not taking care of yourself first and foremost.
Don’t be afraid to block people. Even for petty reasons. It’s good to block people. Don’t force yourself to see stuff you don’t want to see.
Being Constantly Online
The 24 hour news cycle is not a good thing to follow 24/7. Taking social responsibility is a good thing, but your brain is NOT built to worry about every issue in the world at once. One strategy I use for staying sane is I try to only check the news once a day, and if something needs more attention to set aside an amount of time I’m going to focus on it before I need to take time to step back.
Touch grass. Not literally, unless you can in which case I highly suggest it, sometimes it’s just good to lay in a field. What I mean is you need to dedicate a good portion of your time to being offline (sleep does not count). What your offline time looks like is going to differ depending on your level of ability, but even if you are house bound it’s important to build some hobbies that don’t rely on the internet. Talking to people offline is also a good goal if possible, even just to your housemates.
Social etiquette greatly differs online and offline and sometimes the reminder that were all just Some People gets lost behind the numbers and the fabricated personas. Keep in mind the difference in how information is shared without forgetting that the fact we are all people remains the same.
Be generous with your etiquette. You will avoid a lot of stress if you conduct yourself with the same politeness you would have in an offline interaction. Master the art of "minding your own business" for your own sake.
Arguments and Competition
As soon as you can, you need to internalize the fact that leaving an argument is not losing.
It is inevitable you will be exposed to many people who disagree with you. Some people only want to argue to rile you up. Sometimes that’s not their intention, but it’s what they’re doing. You do not have to remain in conversation with people, especially if they’re not interested in actually coming to an understanding. Even if they are interested, sometimes they just suck!! Leave!! You can leave!!
On that note, sometimes you are going to get valid criticism and it’s going to hurt. That is part of learning. If someone says you messed up and did something hurtful, take a second to step back from your defensiveness and consider: intent ≠ effect. Apologize, repair what you can, and move forward with the ability to do better in the future. You’re going to mess up every once in awhile, it’s inevitable.
To summarize the past two points: don't waste your time on unnecessary hostility but don't close yourself into an echo chamber either. Debates should be about learning.
Sometimes people are not going to like you. This happens offline too but people tend to be a lot more blunt online. Sometimes people dislike you for no reason or for really petty reasons. That’s not your problem, move on.
Don’t actively seek out people you don’t like or who don’t like you to argue with. Whether or not your side is the “right side” doesn’t matter, it’s going to cause you so much unnecessary stress. Feel free to keep posting your opinions on your own profile but don’t seek out unnecessary conflict.
This is a different type of competition than previously mentioned, but be aware of the danger of comparing yourself to other people. Especially if you’re a creative or student, DO NOT GET SWEPT UP IN THE GRIND CULTURE. It’s more subtle in some places than others, but anytime you see the notion that you should be working yourself to the bone be VERY critical. Also be critical of any online cultures (such as gaming and art communities) that brag about unhealthy habits or act like it’s ~part of the culture~ (ex: all nighters, not taking breaks, getting hurt. Any activity that neglects health to work toward a goal).
Not just grind culture, any community of subculture that shares anti recovery sentiments is a huge red flag. Even if they're joking, it's not worth the risk of internalizing those statements.
Everyone’s social media presence is to some degree doctored because it’s a purposefully selected collection of what they allow you to see. It’s fine to like the persona you see being displayed, but never forget that it is not reflective of the entire person. Everyone online is JUST SOME PERSON. Do not forget that and start holding yourself to a standard you can’t even see every side of.
By posting online you are opening yourself to criticism. Whether or not it’s justified can vary, but either way it’s going to happen. Mute stuff, go private, disable comments, etc if you need to.
Misc Tidbits
these are technically just general info that is also good for offline but I have seen things that make me think people online need the extra reminder.
Learn what cults are, how they recruit, and what they do to their members. I'm not kidding. This is particularly relevant at the moment because of current societal unrest and widespread loneliness. No one is immune to cult propaganda, and not every cult is based on pre established religion or family. Many exist ONLINE and are able to manipulate people without ever meeting face to face. (learn more: Loneliness as a Pandemic: The Dangers of Online Cult
Familiarize yourself with the concept of pseudoscience. Please familiarize yourself with the concept of pseudoscience and then learn how to identify pseudoscience. (learn more: Karl Popper, Science, & Pseudoscience: Crash Course Philosophy #8)
Q. How do I know if a source is reliable?
Final Thoughts
It's important people of ALL ages learn these lessons, because the internet is constantly changing and we are all vulnerable when in the presence of other people.
Be cautious and stay safe

so I've seen several Small Potatoes fics where the whole ~situation~ makes the already palpable tension between Scully and Mulder even worse, which i can understand and it's a valid interpretation, but it's not my interpretation, actually? cos there's a LOT of tension building throughout season 4, even prior to Scully's diagnosis, and you can tell that not only are they trying to juggle her illness with their work and personal friendship (and like, wanting more than just friendship, which is lowkey a whole other rant) but there's also some unresolved tension from Never Again and it only grows and grows as Scully gets sicker and sicker — Mulder is her refuge in Memento Mori, you can visibly see her relax as soon as he touches her at the end, but after that she reverts to that I don't want him to feel like he has to protect me attitude that always weighs her down.
her life is hers, but it's also bound up in his in a way that can't be undone, BUT she's dying and that is hard and she tries to hold him at a distance in order to make the end hurt less for both of them; the problem is that her pushing away, forcing herself to be fine so she won't break down into him and take him down with her, does the exact opposite and makes everything worse. Mulder wants so badly to be there for her, to hold her tight enough that not even cancer can take her away, but he also wants to respect her, so he tries to maintain that professional distance — but the fact is that neither of them is capable of that.
they crossed the line from professional into personal on their very first case, and it's only gotten more entangled since then; by her birthday it's a little bit different, he gets her a gift and she calls him out on it (because he only remembers her birthday when it's her last, which is so typical of their relationship), one thing leads to another and there's the painful risk of closeness again as they stare up at the night sky — and that is Scully's decision, she offers the olive branch of connection, and Mulder takes that offering. when she closes off again he respects that, because how can he ever do anything else? he'll be as close as she'll let him until the end, but no closer unless she lets him
his flirting and general dorkiness throughout Small Potatoes ("should we be picking out china patterns, Scully? :D") is like. he's reaching out in a mirror to how she did after her (final) birthday, he's offering his own little awkward olive branch through his behavior, saying he's still there, that he'll be whatever she needs or wants if she'll let him, he's not afraid to flirt, to joke about lives together that could never happen (even if she wasn't staring death in the face, they've never been normal enough for that); he disregards the pain that's coming when he loses her to offer himself up to her — the wording of "should we be picking out china patterns" is interesting bc instead of the brash "Scully, what are you wearing?" and et cetera of the past (the stuff that always got schoolgirl giggles out of her; I have another post drafted about Mulder making her laugh), he offers up this teasing palm-up, a wording that leaves any response up to her, not just dropping a joke into the air and expecting her to laugh. there's something... exceedingly respectful about that — and Scully responds to it!! not the way we're used to seeing, maybe, but she does- she lets him in, both emotionally by relaxing the guards she's hastily built around herself and her heart recently, and literally when she lets "him" in to her apartment
and then, as it turns out, "as close as she'll let him" goes from arms-length-afraid, to practically as close as he can be, even if it's not *him*.... something about that unintentional admission, that she would open up like that so unexpectedly, would let him kiss her, changes EVERYTHING. it SHOULD make their relational tension worse, it should make everything more difficult and more painful, but it DOESN'T. in fact, it's the turning point for them in the midst of the pain and longing they're mixed up in, it's like a weight is off Scully's (oh so small) shoulders of a confession she doesn't have to verbally make — there's a mutual knowledge that there could be More, that just in her last weeks they could be more (and that she wants him close either way), but there won't; she is still dying and he is still crying and they are still together but in what capacity and for how long?
it's so fragile that they don't risk it, not until Scully holds him at the end of Demons and Mulder kisses every part of her but her lips in the Reduxes, because if it really is the end, it will hurt just as badly either way so maybe there's nothing left to lose. there's a desperate longing in the way Mulder kisses her cheek and her hands as she lies in that hospital bed, one that wouldn't be there if he didn't have reason to think she might let him get away with finally truly kissing her. there's an intensity in how she watches him that wouldn't be there if she didn't think he might try; if she didn't, on some level, want him to.
TL;DR, everything hurts (affectionate), but my personal take is that Small Potatoes does the opposite of what seems the most logical outcome and that's REALLY INTERESTING to me tbh

With the semi/cryptic confirmation of Ed and Barts relationship in the series I have a question:
Do you think everyone knows about them (in world) or do you think they’re keeping it secret from some?
It’s just a thought that’s been in my head recently. It is most likely fuelled by the whole drama of G&B not being able to depict a “specific character” (it’s definitely Bart) as gay. They’ve had to hide the relationship from their audience - because of ridiculous reasons - but there are still moments that bring up the question - Are they? Before the reveals from AskGreg, I kinda thought- well they are clearly not together yet, but perhaps they both have feelings for one another and are just waiting for the other to make the next move because they’re nervous idiots who don’t want to have read the situation wrong — all while their friends are like - seriously guys? just get together already. Kinda like they did in s1 with Wally and Artemis - and I guess early Supermartian as well - which I would have been okay with... though with the likelihood of there being at least another two year time skip you’d probably have missed the getting together moment - which would kinda suck. Anyway. With the information about the chances being they were supposed to clearly be in a relationship throughout S3 — which makes the whole structuring of ILLUSIONS just make sense — it’s got me viewing their moments with a whole new energy. Also, I saw this post by Greg —
Tumblr media
And let me just clarify, I have no idea if this is actually referencing the Ed and Bart stuff, it might not be (probably isn't). This is purely me speculating.
My reading of this is they got told they couldn’t depict Bart as gay pretty late on and that specifically affected ILLUSIONS where they likely intended to confirm the relationship with that first shot - the kiss on the cheek moment. Even now that moment is just odd - because it’s there but it’s not - because technically there is no actual kiss… which I think is absolutely the point. It plants the seed without actually breaking any rules - all by keeping the momentum but removing the specific kiss frame. It’s the only moment that I feel is explicit in saying they are in a relationship - everything else you can just read into and imply there’s something - but they technically don’t confirm anything.
The whole thing is actually quite interesting - despite the reasoning for it being totally ridiculous. By keeping/showing what they did... People notice it. People talk about it. People reflect on it. More people talk about it. People writing. Make. Create. Discuss it. An entire audience is formed who want and support it. It’s a whole thing now because people noticed it and generated a positive response to it - and that was before all the AskGreg information. The whole reason YJ got a season 3 is because the fans fought to get it back. Enough people talked about it - and kept talking about it - to convince TPTB that the show should come back. Greg and Brandon know this. They know the power the fans have and maybe they hoped that power would help them again in freeing Bart from these ridiculous restrictions. #letbartoutofthecloset
Obviously, we can't know until S4 is released whether G&B got the permission to confirm Bart's sexuality the way they envisioned - but maybe the responses that came during the release of 3b were enough to convince TPTB that they were fighting a losing battle. But who knows, people in power can be very stubborn at times, so we will just have to see what we get. Fingers crossed they eased up though - and not just because of the Ed/Bart relationship (which I am obviously a fan of -- it's fine if not everyone is) - but because these restrictions on LGBTQ+ content shouldn't be a thing and need to stop -- there is just no validity in them.
Anyhow. despite their not being allowed to officially confirm the relationship, Greg's comment about Ed's having a boyfriend they can't name basically confirms the fact without technically breaking any rules again. Masterfully done Wiesman. With this, it implies the pair are in fact dating during S3 which brings us back to the original question... but who knows??
With the comments of Virgil during ILLUSIONS, it's easy to assume their friends do in fact know. They also seem to have no problem being close and interacting with one another whilst in the presence of others -- that is, except for one moment...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ever since the first time I saw this episode (ELDER WISDOM) I have always found this moment strange - because Ed seems to get kinda awkward when Barry comes to check on Bart. (Or that's how I see it at least.) He realises Flash is standing there and immediately pulls his head down averting his gaze -- almost like he doesn't want to be seen by the elder. But why? Does Barry not know about the pair -- or maybe he doesn't know about Bart and Ed thinks their current closeness is too revealing -- who's to say Bart's even fully out to the world yet -- who's to say either of them are? We certainly don't since we weren't allowed to be shown. We can't know until we know - so until then we can play the speculation game while we wait.
Bart is certainly a bit of a secret keeper when it comes to being himself. I'm still convinced the Bart we see onscreen is merely his interpretation of what he thinks people expect from a speedster in this time. We saw 'real' Bart, he was snarky and cynical and nothing like the Bart we've had for the past two seasons. He said it himself - he's playing a character - and I don't think he knows how to break out of it - not while the possibility exists that it might hurt those he's grown to care about. Bart wants to be seen a certain way to avoid acknowledging the truth of the past - if people see him as happy and smiley, then no one will question him on things he doesn't want to talk about. The problem with that is you can't hide yourself forever - cracks begin to form and eventually, the truth comes out whether you want it to or not. So who knows how comfortable Bart is revealing any of his true self to those he cares about. Maybe his relationship with Ed will be the thing that finally helps him find comfort in being himself, whilst also trusting others to still accept him as himself... and maybe getting him that bit of therapy he really needs.
This brings us to Eduardo… First, can I just say it made me so happy to see Greg’s confirmation of Ed being gay - though it is slightly annoying that he was robbed of his explicit onscreen reveal in S3 thanks to the drama with Bart. His whole relationship to his powers in S2 to S3 fits the representation of coming to terms with your sexuality/identity from a very negative point of view. Feeling like it’s something that needs fixing or needs to be “cured” - to then finding the light and freedom in accepting yourself for you. His growth between seasons is brilliant. He understands the hate and insecurity the teens are feeling because he felt it himself. He does all he can to help them because he never felt he got that help when he needed it - and no one deserves to feel worse for being who they are. Obviously, the things he talks about are framed in the context of dealing with/accepting the meta-gene - yet there are certain moments where it seems he’s saying more than that…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All of which got me wondering - why did Ed originally runaway? It certainly wasn’t because of the meta-abilities he did not yet have. All he’s ever said on the subject was he thought he wanted to be with his father - the man it seems he barely had a relationship with. No, I think Ed has been running from himself for a long time and his dad just happened to be an actual direction for him to aim for. The way he speaks about his wanting to be “cured” and “praying to get rid of his powers” suggests an upbringing around religion and traditional ideas of there being a ‘normal/proper’ way to be — while anything that doesn’t fit that way is treated as other or something that needs to be changed or 'fixed'. Maybe he ran to avoid being found out and run the risk of being ostracised by those he loved. Or maybe he was found out and leaving wasn’t entirely his choice*. If this was the case, I can certainly imagine him not wanting to come out to his dad for fear of his reaction and completely losing all chance of that father-son relationship they’re both trying so hard to keep. It can seem easier to live in secret than risk the reality of loss. So while the meta-gene likely wasn’t the main thing he was angry about in S2, it was able to become a physical thing he could blame and focus his anger on - without having to think about where his issues truly lied… Though with a bit of time it also became the thing he was comfortable conveying his feelings through...
“I’ve learned to accept, even love my meta-abilities”
I love this line so much and it’s all because of the delivery by Freddy Rodrigues. There is the slightest hint of a pause before he says “meta-abilities”, which gives the impression he was about to say something else before then remembering himself and who he was talking to. Then there’s the small inflecion he put on “love”, which makes it sound like it’s the first time he’s heard himself say the words out loud. I don’t hear him talking about the gene - I hear him talking about finally accepting himself - all of himself - for the first time in maybe ever and finally feeling happy because of it. I hear growth... From being the angry 14-year-old skater who just wanted to run away and escape any way he could. To the 16-year-old councillor/Outsider jumping straight into the danger to protect and inspire those who need it. Both he and Bart are such strong characters with so much more to be seen - especially when it comes to the insecurities which lie behind their masks. They both compliment each other pretty perfectly - both powers-wise and personality-wise - meaning while they try to hide themself from others, I don't think it'll take long for them to realise they can't hide from each other.
Anywho, that’s all the speculatary nonsense I’ve got for today. This turned into such a patchwork of vaguely linkable thoughts I’ve had which barely relate to the one I started with - but that is usually how it goes. Take it as you will…
Also, completely unrelated to YJ, but Bi Tim Drake now exists in dc canon which is really cool - seeing all of the joy it’s sparked has really given me something to smile about this week… There is hope after all. 🌈

* OK so here’s a little random snapshot into the chaos of my mind— as I was writing the Ed stuff I had a scene pop into my head of Ed finally -for whatever reason- having to tell his dad that he didn’t leave his abuelo’s home - he got kicked out. His dads confused about this and asks Why? What did you do? And Ed’s like Nothing… I didn’t do anything wrong… he just… found out something. So Seniors like Found out what Eduardo? And Ed’s getting really nervous now because he doesn’t want to say it - That I, um… I’m… Senior step a fraction closer as he picks up on Ed’s anxiety but remains an appropriate distance - Son? Then after a tensening silence he finally says it - sounding the most vulnerable he has ever been - I’m gay… The silence is there again, heavy and unnerving, neither saying a word. Ed can’t move as he’s lock in his elders unreadable glare. Expecting the worse his head drops to take in the floor - anything that isn’t the disappointment ahead - he feels the urge to disappear burning up inside him - consuming him. Then just as he’s about to escape he’s suddenly grounded by a steadying hand rooting itself on his shoulder. Tentatively he lifts his gaze to witness his father, there, with nothing but love and support in his eyes - Mijo. The clamping in his chest dissipates as all the tension escapes at once, along with the breath he hadn’t realised he was holding. Ed embraces his dad and the elder embraces his son. Together. A family.
Anyway. That’s probably a load of rubbish but hey my minds full of it… but basically I really want to see a tender moment between Ed and his dad. For whatever reason. Something where Ed’s in a vulnerable state and in need of some emotional support from his father - and without hesitation his father steps up - because that’s what we haven’t seen from them yet. It would perfectly portray the strength of their relationship as father and son - despite their previous struggles - and prove that Senior is willing to support his son no matter the situation as the father - not just the scientist. Its the final step in their healing journey and I wanna see it so bad!!

Tailor!Reader in Dream SMP
Dsmp x reader prompt; Tailor!Reader in Dream SMP. Credit would be appreciated so more people can find this and make their own things based on it.
Can fully be read as platonic. GN!reader with they/them pronounce as a placeholder so anyone can adapt it however they want. Both general and character specific parts included.
Characters who have a lot written for/about; Eret, Ranboo, Foolish, Tommy, Technoblade, Philza and Michael. Mentioned; Tubbo, Sam Nook, Purpled and Foolish Jr.
This ended up being super long so I’m putting it under the cut in order not to clutter people’s pages. My personal favourite part is Phil’s and Techno’s part. These could be read as headcanons but are still available as a prompt(s) to use for anyone.
------------------------------
The reader joining after the doomsday as a time frame in my mind.
The reader helping people patch up their current clothes since most of it got pretty banged up during the doomsday, and it's not like they can just go get a new outfit since quite a few people had just lost all their belongings and only had the clothes on their back. So at first prioritizing helping patch up the current clothing people were wearing and then moving on to making some simple fast to make and easy on the resources clothes for people. Just like basic shirts and shorts/pants, nothing fancy. Then when everyone has at least a couple of different clothes to change to and from starting their own business to sell people more if they wanted. However waving payment if they brought them the materials and what they wanted wasn't overly complicated.
People at first thinking they are just some chump who knows basic sewing or something. A very kind chump, but still a chump. So imagine their surprise when one day they are just walking by the reader's now established tailors and they see these absolutely stunning designs displayed at the windows.
Just like their reactions seeing these beautiful designs they can't help but stare at. I'd imagine some of them just doing a double take when they walk by, someone pressing their face up to the glass trying to see it closer, the braver ones going inside and talking to the reader about their designs and the more anxious and/or shy ones only going inside when the reader isn't there to look at designs closer.
And the reasons they like/are amazed by the designs vary also ! Some just have monkey brain that goes "Pretty. WANT", some who just love the colour and art of the pieces, some who imagine how epic this design or others would look on them, some who love the fashion aspect of it and of course the very small portion who actually know anything about tailoring/sewing and the amount of work that goes into making something intricate.
Some specific character/group interactions I thought of;
Making warm well insulated clothes for people moving to Snowchester so they don't freeze. +A warm cape for Ranboo for the same reason.
Eret being one of the firsts (if not the first) to get himself a fully tailored and customized outfit. Them also being the first and very possibly only person to get a dress or a skirt since most of the other people on the server prefer to wear pants (excluding maid dresses which people might get as joke). The reader crying in joy for getting to design something different for once. And hey if the reader ends up making a few extra ones that she didn't order, but decided to give her anyway it was all just some extra ones they had lying around, never mind the fact that the dresses/skirts are perfectly tailored for Eret and are her style. Just a coincidence, nothing suspicious there. Eret also models for the reader and once he even convinced them to hold a fashion show to showcase some of their work to the whole server. Of course he was the main model presenting the outfits.
At start of the reader beginning to display their designs at their shop Ranboo sees a really cool looking suit on display and his brain just goes "Want." He probably wouldn't be able to buy anything pre-made and be comfortable in it due to his physique. And him having just moved into the arctic and only starting to get settled in, he doesn't have comfortable enough funds for him to get something as expensive as a custom tailored suit AND have enough for any possible rent that he might be required to pay.
Eventually when he gets richer he starts considering getting one but the anxious side of him always ends up winning and he doesn't. However once he finally gets the courage to go commission the suit for himself he doesn't regret it at all. The reader did their best to not overwhelm him and to make it the best possible experience. Just imagining the absolute joy he would feel for having a properly fitting suit that's made just for him, not too short sleeves nor too wide torso and shoulders, just perfect. If he ends up ordering a couple more suits that's between him and the reader. He actually ends up probably being their most frequent and reliable customer.
And we should all know why that is, but let me clarify just in case; Michael.
The reader basically becoming Michael's personal stylist (/hj) . Not only does Ranboo buy a god awful amount of clothes for Michael, the reader also makes some free ones for him. The free ones are things the reader felt like designing since they absolutely adore Michael and the ones Ranboo pays for are commissioned by him. Michael absolutely has the biggest wardrobe in the whole server. The reader learning how to make plushies so Michael could have some more toys, this learning experience including learning to crochet and knit to see what he like best.
Using their newly acquired plush making skills, the reader starts their quest to make some plushies for others after seeing people stare at the plushies wistfully either while they were working on them or seeing Michael with the plushies. People who got them include the minors, their close friends and basically anyone they thought might benefit from them. Some of the ones they made (that I could think of);
Of course a bee for Tubbo, but also throwing in a little ram one as well
Ranboo gets a grass block plush/pillow
Tommy gets a cobblestone block plush and a cow plush. He also later receives a Sam Nook plush while he's working on the hotel
Purpled getting two different sized ufos, one to hold and the other more of a big pillow
Eret definitely gets a flamingo plush
Foolish gets a totem and a gold block plushies
Phil gets crow plush as well these tiny fake coin and gem plushies (the latter causes problems for him which I'll expand upon later)
Techno gets a pig one as well as polar bear one
Back to the individual/group part
The reader just chilling w/ Foolish as a fellow artists. Them talking about both their arts and catching up every time the reader comes to deliver something to Snowchester when Foolish is building the mansion. Just two pretty peaceful artists talking about their passions. I’d imagine Foolish and the reader could relate to each other and their place in the server due to their similar hobbies/jobs as well as their similar time of joining the server. Foolish's first commission from them being an intricate blanket for Foolish Jr so he could have a more comfortable resting place. He may or may not end up receiving that and several other (though less intricate) blankets as well as a tiny shark plush to give to Foolish Jr. Later on when the reader gets better at either knitting or crocheting they end up making a tiny shark jumper with a hood for Foolish Jr as well. Foolish would definitely cry when he sees his tiny shark baby. Any commissions of clothes for himself tend to always take some time due to sheer amount of work needing to be done due to his size so he always makes sure the reader doesn’t already have a lot on their plate and that they know he’s fine with waiting if they need to take a break from it.
Then there's Tommy, who they sometimes teach more about sewing since he already knows some basics. Him probably being the first person aside from Michael they make a plush for, due to him demanding one once he saw the reader making them. Then proceeding to get three plushies in rapid succession. The first being the cobblestone, the second being the cow and the third one being the Sam Nook one. He ends up losing one of them during the prison fiasco and when the reader asks if he'd like a new one they only get the answer of "Don't want to think about what happened and the same one might make me do that". He then promptly receives new clothing (so he isn't wearing the same ones he was wearing in prison) and some extra blankets (for comfort) from the reader.
After Tommy meeting Michael does he use him to scam the reader to make them matching outfits for free? Yes, yes he does. Does it work? Yes, yes it does. Are they bothered by it? Not really, they look adorable in their matching outfits.
The reader being the source for Sam Nook's construction gear/clothes or at least the original patterns for them.
And then there's the arctic boys (minus Ranboo, who will still get mentioned) who are an interesting bunch clothing wise. The first one to commission the reader out of them would be Phil who got the original warm cape for Ranboo but also at the same time commissioned one for himself that would include slits for his wings. Eventually getting to design clothing for him which is always an exciting challenge with his wings. And when Phil finally manages to convince Techno to get something made for himself as well, Techno almost immediately gets addicted to having high quality clothing when they finish their first piece for him. The fun the reader has designing clothes for these boys is immeasurable with their different styles and needs in the clothing. Aside from clothing Techno also commissions them for a pet bed for Steve.
When the boys got their plushies it was adorable but also a very chaotic. Techno giving his pig one to Steve so he wouldn't miss him when he was away from home, but also bringing the polar bear one with him when he couldn't or wasn't allowed to bring Steve with him but still needed comfort. While on Phil's side of things; he was showing his crows the crow plushie joking about he'll replace them if they aren't careful however he made the mistake of showing them the tiny coin and gem plushies as well. I want you to imagine hundreds of crows descending upon this poor fool of a man in the background while the reader is walking away hoping they like their plushies.
The war that ensued the couple following days amongst the crows starts to cool down but the bickering doesn't, every waking moment Phil can feel eyes on him and one or more of the crows coming to complain about the others having had the shiny plushies for too long. He quickly caves under the pressure and commissions more of the tiny shiny treasure plushies. And by more I mean a lot more.
When he finally has enough of the things he goes around distributing them to the crows. Finally a moment of peace, but he still feels like something is staring at him occasionally. Deciding to ignore it since it's finally quiet he goes to makes himself a cup of tea and while waiting for the water to boil he fishes out the few shiny plushies he had saved for himself. The second he does he feels eyes burning into him and now that it's quiet he hears it, quiet muffled snuffles and snorts of discontent. Then he sees what ‘it’ is, it's Techno behind the window looking at the shinies in his hand with such intensity Phil fears for his life (/hj). Phil just sighs deeply before walking over to the window and opening it. For a second Techno looks like a deer in headlights before returning to intensely staring at the shinies in Phil's hand before Phil just dumps the shiny plushies into Techno's hand and closes the window. Happy piglin noises can be heard outside while Phil debates the pros (getting to have shinies himself) and cons (the embarrassment of having to commission even more of the shiny plushies than he already has) of getting new ones from the reader. And in all this the reader has no idea the amount of chaos they inadvertently caused.
And finally; Techno commissioning robes/cloaks for whole the Syndicate to wear in their meetings, because he’s dramatic like that. But since he’s a thoughtful guy, he wants them all to fit the members well and not be uncomfortable to wear so he gets everyone’s measurements. Once he has them all he goes to the reader with the order for the robes, he has all the measurements written down under just Person 1, Person 2 etc. to keep their anonymity and when asked what the robes are for he just tells the reader it’s a book club. When he gets them all and the reader asks no further questions he thinks he’s gotten away with getting some cool robes for the Syndicate with their secrets safe. Little does he know the reader actually now knows all the members in the Syndicate since they can just reference the gotten measurements with everyone’s measurements written down from previous work done by them. Whether the reader thinks it’s some weird cult they all are a part of or just an actual book club people are too embarrassed to admit they are in, is up to interpretation.
