hi all, idk how will this post reach the intended audience who can help me out on this but - i have been listening to Japanese folk singer Ichiko Aoba lately, and i am just so so fascinated by her sound. I possibly couldn’t explain this as deeply as I feel, but this past year there have been random discoveries as such, musically, academically and such, that I have found myself being more and more drawn to Japanese culture. In order to be able to read Japanese someday, and immerse in the culture better, I have also started Japanese language lessons.

for now, if you have any suggestions on things i can read (will have to be in English for now), listen to, or watch, to understand Japanese art and culture better, please please let me know!! i cannot explain this almost spiritual connect i feel, it feels like finding home. and i have never fully felt at home anywhere i have lived in.

Weekly Shonen Jump's biggest hit is definitely "One Piece". Hundreds of millions of books have been published. (To be exact, 400 million in Japan and 100 million overseas)

Recently, when I heard the anime theme song sung by Ado, I thought, "This is good." What was depicted here was an astonishing optimism.

♪Everybody's got bones someday

Can't count on, can't count on

yo ho ho ho ho ho ho ho

So is sung. The power of vitality that doesn't seem to care at all about dying and exposing bones. It's like saying, "Now is the time." I can sympathize with this worldview. I don't have time to think about graves. (Actually, I'm also good at not going into the grave.) The theme song and lyrics were written by Eiichiro Oda (author)himself.

However, this optimism is a fine line with foolishness. There was a story like this in a passage of this manga that I happened to read before. On a certain island, the main character Luffy, who encountered a scene where two giants were fighting continuously, interviewed one of the giants, and answered, "We will continue to fight, all the time." When Luffy asks why he fought, the giant answers. "I've long since forgotten the reason," Luffy exclaimed, "Big~~".

From an ordinary person's point of view, if we forget the "cause of war", we may reconcile and coexist peacefully. Two giants who don't do that, and Luffy who is moved by the situation.

This work called "One Piece" will surely capture the hearts of young people who want to be free and uninhibited. In that sense, "One Piece" is certainly a child of "Weekly Shonen Jump", which has maintained the support of young people for many years.
